Last thing i'll say on Carra, while he was on the pitch in the far east, we conceded 1 goal from open play, the other being a direct free kick. Was it a coincidence that not once but twice conceded 2 goals in little over a min in both games while he wasn't on the pitch. He's 33 not 37, you'd have thought he'd had a shocking season the way come fans are going on. First game of the season against Sunderland, Carra will start defo. First and last prediction.Jonson6

Can anyone tell me why the greek(krygiakos) gets to play before Ayala. IMO we should sign only one CB (DANN or CAHILL).
CBS should be CAHILL/DANN, AGGER, KELLY, AYALA, CARRA and then loan wilson and wisdom out to get first team experience.
Anyone agree or disagree

Where is KK? He left eary to greet Downing, but he has not been around. He is looking to bring in some player(s) and will do it the Liverpool way. Expect some news in the next couple of days.

17 Jul 2011 23:34:12
I don't normally get any inside info but I've had it on good authority that Liverpool will only sign players now from cash raised from sales. KK had 50million plus sales to spend. He has secured his priority targets and is now reliant on selling Aquilani/Meireles and cutting the wage bill with loan deals. It is hoped another 20-25 million can be raised which is not unrealistic. Ideally he wants Cahill and Enrique, but may be priced out and is more likely to get Dann and Cisshoko. If we only sell one of Aqua or Meireles, then expect Dann or Cisshoko but not both. Don't expect any inward moves now until the final week of the transfer window.

17 Jul 2011 23:32:19
why do we need anothe centre half wen we have carra agger skrtel ayala wilson and wisdom and we also have kelly so imo we dnt need a cb

17 Jul 2011 23:29:31
Aqualani will NOT leave, he has the capability with his creativity and composure to be our playmaker, like a Fabregas or Modric (Obviously not to their standards). I suppose mereiles will leave. Poulsen trying to be shipped out. Shelvey and Spearing to maybe given time out on loan with too much competition in liverpools central midfield this season.

Ed009 you keep saying that we don't have the money to buy attacking players such as honda or carzorla. But how do you know this as the only people who would know are kenny, henry commoli etc. THe club have not talked about money and they showed in jan and also the bids for jones young etc that they do. I think they are trying to manage expectations eg when fans were upset at lack of signings they said that we would be signing players who were top targets and now that fans are excited they are trying to dampen them. They always said under promise over deliver- eg january window. Just wondered your thoughts ed? {Ed009's Note - It is not that I know for a fact they won't sign a winger, its just that since the Downing signing there hasn't been much, if any, interest in any attacking players. Furthermore we simply don't have a bottomless pit of money, and it is pretty clear that a few defenders are higher priority. Perhaps if we sell all the deadwood, including a few attacking midfielders/wingers/strikers, we could see more in that area of the field. Otherwise, I very much doubt it.}

Since June LFC have been linked with up to 100 players thataybe signing. The press are desperate for a story and always print bull. The positives are, we are now linked with more quality players than at this stage last season
Good signings so far from KK, great backing from FSG and not too long before a trophy again.
On the players front, expect 2 signings before the window closes, ONLY if we cam shift out some players.

Nnam what are you talking about lad. At what point in my post do i say the Greeks a good player. If you wanna bulls**t to get a few agree's good on ya mate. Fact of the matter is i said he wasn't at fault for all the goals we conceded while he was on the pitch on the far east tour, that was it. Even though he is s**te, i'm not gonna make things up to crowd please like you lad. About Carra, your entitled to your opinion that from you'd like to see him dropped from the first team to 5th or 6th choice centre back and coaching the U/10's in the blink of an eye thats upto you. Remember though lad that loyalty is a 2 way thing. Next time a player wants to leave us or puts in a tranfer request, dont start calling him a traitor and judas and piss and moan about it, just suck it up and remember how loyal you were to one Jamie Carragher, a player who served this club with such pride passion and distinction like only a select few ever have. That was Ed0046 i believe.
He was editing this site during the week.
He said he was a Rangers fan (god love him lol).
Irish Kev. {Ed009's Note - He is a Rangers fan who was kind enough to help out whilst the rest of us had our hectic work party. One thing I do know is that the esteemed Ed007 hates Adam. Saying that, he supports Celtic and Manchester United, so he is both deeply biased, and of course a plank ;).}
-------------------------------------------
Well said Ed009 mate lol. I've been trying to tell Ed007 this on many occasions, on the Manc site. But he takes no heed of what i say?

Blair Mayne YNWA

Ps. Ed007 maybe a biased plank, but he is a quality Ed. {Ed009's Note - I'm only messing around, he's the best Manc I've ever met by a country mile. If he could support a decent team, I'd be in love with the lass.}

Ed I've just read on a site that AC Milan pulled out of a deal for Cissoko a couple of seasons back due to possible spinal problems in a few years.

If this is the case then won't this show on the medical if he has one? {Ed002's Note - It was his teeth showing a susceptability to potential issues. Nothing more.}

hello ed do u think we will sign ola toivonen? {Ed002's Note - No.}

17 Jul 2011 20:48:34
We have to atleast make it look like we want to keep Aquaman. That way we can get more money. If clubs know that we're desperate for a buyer they will bid low. I would even go as far as holding on to him until January. That would put him in the shopping window. If he does well which I think he is capable of we could probably get most of our money back. (IMO)

17 Jul 2011 20:47:38
Ed, do you know if we still plan to sell Brad Jones? Comolli said the signing of Alexander Doni would allow the clubs younger keepers to go out on loan for some much needed game time. Well we released Dean Bouzanis; Peter Gulacsi and Martin Hansen are both likely to seek a loan destination for the season, leaving Reina, Doni and Jones as the only remaining senior keepers. Most clubs ensure they have at least 3 keepers available to them. I think Jones might stay if we can guarantee him some game time in the cups, as he will want to establish himself as the Socceroos number 1 with Schwarzer approaching 40. Maybe? Unless Hansen plans to stay as our number 3, with only Gulacsi going out for game time, I don't see Jones being sold.

YNWA (Adam) {Ed002's Note - Jones is being released for personal reasons.}

17 Jul 2011 20:25:23
Ed should we not be trying to sign Jan Vertonghen of Ajax ? No one has got him yet. Brilliant prospect and still young.

I've also heard reports that Blackburn are trying to sign Honda, do you know if we have shown an interest this time? Another player who is young and technically brilliant. {Ed002's Note - Please refer to earlier posts about Honda. Vertonghen is of interest to Manchesrer City and Arsenal.}

Hello all true LFC fans. Firsty i'd like to say im a virgin to this site but f**k me its good. Ed is it true your a rangers fan? If so how come you take so much interest in the red men. My question is if you are a rangers fan you will know all about Charlie Adam Can he replace our magic in the centre what we have missed in the last couple of years. {Ed002's Note - You have been misled I am afraid.}

17 Jul 2011 19:57:29
alrite ed, any chance of us getting craig bellamy, he can play in two positions (winger and striker), hes good, city want to get rid of him, he would be cheap and could change a game if he come on from the bench (which we lack creativity from the bench). thanks {Ed002's Note - Again I expect to be trashed for saying this, but I doubt it will happen.}

17 Jul 2011 19:53:27
The Eds are say that Johnson will only be sold if a replacement is found. Eds, would Nasri be that replacement even though hes not a RW?

Wheeler92 {Ed002's Note - I would not rely on it.}

17 Jul 2011 19:52:21
Just noticed Maxi Rodriguez has been re-assigned number 11. He was number 17. Perhaps being given a (imo) better squad number is suggestion to Kennys plans for the player. His rich vein of form may have saved his place in the team. He is also on good form in the pre season friendlies. 11 is a starting XI number, traditionally right or left wing. He is a very good player tbf. Hopefully he hits a hattrick every other game consistently

When our owners are collectively worth 15billion It's safe to say your comment of 'We are out of money' sounds pretty stupid. When & where necessary is more like the truth.

dd {Ed002's Note - The collective worth of the owners is nothing to do with Liverpool at all. But the club is not "out of money".}

17 Jul 2011 19:38:56

do u think that conor coady is a midfielder that could be in the roy keane monld??tanx

17 Jul 2011 19:38:53
do you think Carroll will be worth 35 million?
David Villa and Carlos Teves were around that price, cheaper even.
They are much better than him at the moment.
Or was it all just a panic attack for replacing Torres.
I love Andy, he's one of a kind, but was he a rip off?

Paul The Gooch

17 Jul 2011 19:38:30
Sorry Ed, just a quick question which I would love if you answered. Will Luis Suarez miss the first two games of the season and why? Thanks a million in adavnce Ed's. {Ed002's Note - He will be given a vacation after the Copa America and then on his return will be assessed. The club will bring him in to the side at the appropriate time.}

17 Jul 2011 19:32:41
I was looking at the 1st team profiles on the liverpool website. It says Aquilani is number 99 and Insua is 98. Why would they give them those Numbers instead of just putting A hyphon to show they haven't been given numbers like Downing? {Ed002's Note - I guess they are simply placeholders - I would not read anything in to it at all.}

Reading through posts and probably stating the obvious is that we need a new centre back. Possibly to phase Carra out and partner Agger. Personally i think the talk of Carra's demise is a little early. You only had to look at how a what happened when he wasn't on the pitch in the matches in the far east to see the his leadership gone when he was off the pitch. I know the Greek will get the blame for most of the goals, but it wasn't just down to him, it was a general lack of leadership that caused the goals imo. It was hot and humid but a most of the defenders played half a game each is both games. Their's no way if Carra would have on the pitch would he have allowed the standards of the players drop to the extent that we conceded 2 goals in about a minute in both games no matter how tired the players were mentally or physically were. He's never been a player where his pace has been a big part of his game. We know he's not s**t off a shovel but he aint a plodder either, he reads the game brilliantly, organises, pulls a player here, sends a player their, hands a bollockin out or a pat on the back, what ever is required. Always puts his body on the line and always gives 100% week in week out. The amount of talking and organising he does cannot be underestimated. Against Chelsea when he came back from injury into the right hand side of 3 centre halves. The so called experts said its to soon, especially against a team of Chelsea's ilk. Carra had a blinder, starting with a sliding block on Torres's shot were he read the situation, got across and covered the side that Skirtl and Agger were on and saved their blushes and our pride by keeping Torres out. He made Flano's debut a lot easier against City, talking and guiding him through the game. Carra's a ledgened and is 33, yet it seems people think he's older because it seems he's been around forever. He's proved his naysayers wrong before and he'll do it again. He wont do a Gary Neville and Paul Scholes and retire when he really is on his way down the tubes and embarrass himself. Too proud for that i suspect, i'm sure he'll finish the moment he feels he's not playing well enough, or not playing upto the standard he has done consistentley over the years. That time isn't yet and dont be suprised that if we do sign a centre half before the season starts it'll be a catalyst to show the fans he's worth his place in the team on merit and not reputation. Whoever K.K picks at centre half against Sunderland, new signing or not, dont be suprised to see Carra being one of two centre backs who starts, whoever the new signing maybe.Jonson6

ed forgot to say but read a book a couple of months ago..it did actually change my view of Rafa...seriously its a must read..44 months with a pair of Cowboys...also if you get the chance watch , Fire in Babylon..the west indies cricket in their heyday..magic.

17 Jul 2011 19:13:01
{Ed002's Note - Mavinga is all but gone already, Jones is leaving for personal reasons and has been replaced by Doni, Poulsen is staying according to his agent, I think Kyrgiakos will stay and I suspect Degen will be available on a free.}

It will be disastrous if The Greek Kyrgiakos & Danish Blondie Poulsen stays at the club. I have enough of both of them already. Poulsen is our worst Center Midfielder & i assume everyone will agree with me on this one And on the other hand how many penalty's did this Greek has cost LFC last season, plus one he is of course one of our worst defender. I am sure Ayala & Wilson will do better than him. POulsen, Kyrgiakos & Jovanovic, the first three dead wood that must leave the club. Watching these deadwood leave LFC this summer would make this transfer window even more happier

17 Jul 2011 19:12:52
Eds, whats happening with Dan Ayala, surely its better to try and give the lad a chance than send him back on loan or sell the player..By now the staff should know whether if he is good enough for the team or not..similar sentiments abt Stephen Darby, hes been send on loan again, when hes clearly not shown improvements with the likes of Kelly, Flanagan etc....finally, I heard rumours that Suso isnt progressing as expected, any truth in that?

Bob L {Ed002's Note - I don't know what is happening with Ayala but he was certainly looking a good prospect. Suso is still a kid - he needs time.}

17 Jul 2011 19:10:23
What is the latest on Tom Cairney from Hull. It was believed that he was moving to Liverpool hence why we're playing them in a friendly. Has this fizzled out or was there any truth in it at all.

17 Jul 2011 19:10:11
what would you think if we offered Ngog (6m)Cole(2m) and 6m-7m cash to everton for baines

17 Jul 2011 19:09:18
So the owners have stopped spending after only 46m approx. That should stop people thinking we are cash rich now. No more silly posts about 40m aguero, ganso etc. We are out of money.

IF we can sell deadwood then that wilk raise about 20m more. Personally I think that no more will be bought as noone wants our deadwood.

Mr E

17 Jul 2011 19:06:44
Kenny came back early for his daughter Lynsey's wedding.not to tie up any deals.

17 Jul 2011 19:06:22
Ed everyone is talking about us needing to sell to buy, but we have only spent 40m and can probably raise around 30m from sales so i would expect more money to be spent. These owners in jan were buying before torres, suarez and were also bidding for young richards adam etc. They said they would be spending the real money in the summer. Well buy the looks of it we will only be spending about 20m net. I think they are trying to do what they said which is under promise and overdeliver and that is why commoli is playing down talk of transfers. I think we will spend around another 30m net but obviously we need to ship players off the wage bill. Just wondered what you thought ed? {Ed002's Note - I think the fans expectations about vast amounts of money being spent were a little high. There is no doubt the owners will support the management team and will provide some funding, but there is significant lost income to contend with (lack of European competition) and the club must move toward self sufficiency. They have provided reasonable commitments and have stuck to them as far as I can tell. However, the wage bill must be reduced (this is the £30k plus per week for El Zhar situation) and fringe players must be moved on. I suspect there will be some tough decisions taken over the next couple of weeks regarding players leaving.}

17 Jul 2011 19:04:32
So happy with Darrens win Coming from dungannon I can tell the party will be on all night Congratulaions from all reds ;)

17 Jul 2011 19:03:15
Poulsen is an apse, claiming he wants to fight for his place, people think, "Oh good on him, classy lad", obviously not, he just wants to sit on the bench (reserves bench that is...) and get a nice big pay check at the end of the week.

So people who think he should stay, you area fools.

Boom.Boom.o.O.

17 Jul 2011 19:02:54
All this talk of Aqualani. He has been a prem league flop. Some players are cut out for prem league others arent. Most players who have played in Spain and Italy just can't adapt to epl as it is so intense and physical and that is why it is best league in world and why KK has opted for players who have epl pedigree and form in this window.

Aqualani has to be sold to recoup any investment. I don't think he has any of attitude or traits for epl.

Ed
I posted this info weeks ago You can check the Archives but now Macca my man is saying the same.There are some fitness issues with Steve which increase more with his all go style of play.

Now I told you guys earlier I am saying it again from a very reliable source.He will this season at some time announce his international retirement. There are not only worry about his fitness but steve is also not happy with capello for captain snub and fact that English management always undervalue him.

Kenny has left the decision on him but steve.g has been told if he wishes to extend his club carrier then he must sacrifice international one like carra did.

There is thought in his mind that he will let go of qualification and will only play in main tournament.

Regards
Red Indian

PS: Check the archives if you don't believe me I gave this information some days back also.

Hi eds, I'm not s#%king you off, but all eds always say Aquilani will go, I hope not and prove you guys wrong, I hope KD gives him another chance, and he has change off hart. He can see Liverpool are spending money in players, we r on the up, I can see fear in the eyes of mancs etc {Ed002's Note - I am glad that you are not s#%king me off, I know that works with some Eds but you won't get any extra favours from me. There is no doubt at all that Aquilani is a fine player and I can perfectly understand the club wanting to keep him, the problem remains that he wants to move back to Italy. Quite rightly, I can understand the club not wishing to sell him on the cheap but a new club is being sought for him. At present there is little interest, so you never know he could end up staying.}

17 Jul 2011 18:46:38
Aquillani will stay. Steve Clarke said today on Liverpool FC's website : "They (Aquillani and Adam) are showing real promise. We have always known how good a player he is."
"He has the quality to stay on and fight for his place in the first team."

17 Jul 2011 18:46:24
Ino u eds are probley fed up wit the Cissokho rumours, but i really hope Macca is wrong on this one, as ive read that we mite c how it goes till jan, wich is stupid wen we can get a quality 23yr old in Cissokho and for £12m, Johnson is not a LB, Aurelio is always injured, Robinson too in experienced, Wilson and Agger are CB, so WE DO NEED A LB.

Also ino everyone finks were guna sell Aqua, but i hope he stays as he gives us sommet different and luks sharp and very impressive in pre-season.

BigD

17 Jul 2011 18:45:18
Hi all eds can someone tell me what no. Downing is . Also do you think we will play a good team at hull Adam Henderson downing etc. Cheers Jodethered. {Ed001's Note - sorry I don't look at player's numbers, it makes no odds to me, the only thing that matters is the badge on the front. I expect Downing to make his debut against Hull.}

17 Jul 2011 18:44:43
How will Aquilani will leave Eds when both Henry and Steve Clark said he still has future in the club? {Ed001's Note - Kenny said Babel had a future at the club too, stop reading so much into press comments, they are meaningless.}

17 Jul 2011 18:44:42
Aqua will NOT go. Kenny has been impressed with him in training and our 2 pre-season games. Mr Henry is also keen on him and Aquilani is ready to give Liverpool a second chance as they are offering him one.

We will sign:

Cissokho
Dann
Striker ( Not been decided yet )

If all the unwanted players are sold.. Expect a bid for Johnson, Turan or Lennon

17 Jul 2011 18:41:22
Question for you eds -- Gerrard is 31 so aint got too long left prehaps 3-4 years at best, he can tackle, pass, score, give orders and read the game pretty well, so why dont we play him as our NEW HOLDING MIDFIELDER, with Adam and either Lucas/Aqua or Miereles ahead of him and Downing, Suarez and Carroll the front 3, if i remember right red nose did the same with scholes who is simular to Gerrard and it prolonged his career and to be fair he did a decent job, He can pick out a pass and feed the strikers from that position just like Alonso did and still does for Madrid ?

BigD {Ed001's Note - not for me because Gerrard never looks at the defensive aspects of the game, he is always looking forward. That is why he makes those last ditch tackles, because he is out of position so often. Maybe he can learn that and become a defensive midfielder, but for me his strengths are far more suited to the attacking third of the pitch.}

17 Jul 2011 18:40:40
Firstly well done Darren Clarke, all LFC around the world are proud of you.

Secondly I am gonna throw my tuppence worth on Aqualani, as the Ed said feigning injury etc to avoid training is unacceptable, if you don't want to get your hands dirty, go do one, simple as , you either committed to the cause or your not.
Some posters on here have been saying he's class, best player in pre season games so far cause he's played a decent game against 2 pss poor teams, remember Voronin, scored a couple goals pre season and we all thought he was gonna shine

I am not questioning Aqualanis ability, I believe he has bags of it, but I think he lacks the work ethic required to be a LFC player

players out are : degen , el zhar , jones , aurelio OR insua not both , soto , poulsen , ngog , jovanvic (spelling) , either aqualani or meirless ( i hope aquaman stays ) and possibly maxi might leave plus a few youths out on loan . kk sees an anfield future for aqualani if he can convince him to stay and cole has impressed him , a centre back and striker/winger will be signed if the "deadwood" can be moved on dann is a certain target , i possibly think we could move in on elia but thats just my opinion.

do you think Johnson is better at right back or left back. He has a pretty good goal ratio when compared to other full backs. From the left he could cut in & with Downing hugging the touchline he has the option of shooting, sending in a cross or passing back out to Downing on the flank. He would also be better positioned to stop the opposing winger from cutting in because he is naturally right footed. Also Lahm plays at left back & he's right footed. I would love for us to sign Cissokho but if we don't I'll be satisfied with what we have.

i think people are getting a bit carried away with the whole aquilani doesnt like being tackled, i dont think any player does. theres a little bloke who plays for spurs, tiny he is, they said he was to small for the premier league, not physical enough any would be a flop..... no wait that was modric i must be thinking of someone else
give the guy a chance, he arrived injured, then had to regain form, whilst playing in a league 3 times faster than the one he has played in all his life. also carrying the burden of "this is the guy who will save lfc's miserable start to the season" when he got to grips with things he was possibily our best player, the season he arrived.
and im sure the only reason roy hogson let him leave was because he was to attack minded for roy's park the bus and defend badley tatics.(just my opinion)
with injuries behind him, confidence building, attacking tatics and an arm round his shoulder from kk and he could have more impact than any of the summer signings this season.
and if he doesnt, then he would have been given a fair crack at it, like kuyt has been given, lucas, maxi etc
signing players from abroad is always a risk, but so is buying british, bellamy, keane, pennant etc there is never any guarentees in football.

matt 27 {Ed001's Note - the problem is that he regularly feigned injury and illness in order to avoid training. That is a serious issue for a professional footballer.}

Starting 11

Reina
Johnson Dann Carra Cissokho

Shaqiri Gerrard Adam/Lucas Downing

Suarez Carroll
Subs : Doni , Agger , Kelly , Henderson , Spearing or Shelvey , Kuyt , Maxi

eds yous said earlier that a left back is not a priority now in your opinions what is our top priority position wise

Ed do you think we've finished business now, or do you expect any more signings before the window closes?

Everyone saying we need another striker as back up to Carroll and Suarez.
It might sound crazy but what about taking Michael Owen back as a short term option.
Wouldn't cost much and he could still do a job for us.
What are your thoughts?

Kaka Charlie enjoying the site all the way from Iraq - no rumours from this parish to report... but just a thought - fans keep describing players as 'deadwood' - if you were trying to sell something would you ? perhaps fans should be talking up some of these guys in the hope that they see the light and move on.. they are good enough to do a job for someone, I hope.. but guess for most it will be the last 48 hours of the window and the looming deadline that forces decisions.

If we were in for clichy as he said we were, then a LB will be signing, I know Macca and some of the eds don't think we will but, if we were enquiring about clichy and Enrique then it would defo seem a LB is a priority. Just a thought.

Hey Ed's. Is it true that the doctors up at liverpool are seriously concerned about Gerrard's injury? Please reply. {Ed009's Note - I am afraid I have hear no more than rumours. Macca seems to believe there is something in it, but in my opinion we should wait until the beginning of the season, or until there is an official statement. There may well have been an injury setback, but that is not uncommon. It only matters if it will threaten his career or mean he is out of the new season for months.}

I think everyone needs to watch last seasons friendlys and the seasons before that before they start commenting on this seasons friendlys.

Now I dont know if this was posted before by ed009 my internet went down as I was posting got a major leak which has fried downstairs electrics shouldnt have tried plumbing in the bathroom maybe.

But my mate a lifelong Newcastle fan made a good comment on Carrolls display yesterday.The lad is a northerner and is pretty much acclimatised to English weather so obviously playing in the asian climate would have affected the poor lad greatly.

It reminded me of a Frankie Boyle joke where Nadal challenges Murray to sit it out in an ice bath.Forgetting that Murray is from Scotland the spaniard nearly died of Hypothermia and Murray breaks out in a sweat.

Just remember being on holiday this time two years ago watching Liverpool in friendlies and I dont think we won a single one mainly 0-0 draws could be wrong but know they were the most boring matches ever.

As far as I am concerned Kenny is doing a bang up job couldnt be any better cant wait for the new season to start.

for the first match i dont think gerrard will start. i think we will play 5 in midfield with jay spearing and charlie adam holding with downing on left and henderson on the right aqualani the man behind carroll that is what i think will happen gerrard to come on second half

Please post in rumours.

I suspect what this site needs is a forum so that all rumours can be grouped e.g. "put all your rumours questions regarding [name of player] in here" That might stop all the repeated questions / wet dreams. Otherwise I enjoy reading the posts

Or is that too technically difficult? (I am an IT luddite).

Anyway I suspect we need a left back as a priority as Johnson filling in is a wate of his talent and forces him to cut in too often when attacking. If there are no youngish players available at a sensible price then I would expect an experienced defender like Bridge as a stop gap.

A right winger would be good too and I would prefer someone like lennon possibly in a swap deal (with Cole?)

Other than that I think we are good. {Ed002's Note - We have tried that in the past - but nothing stops the repeated questions and nothing will make many folks read through what has been discussed.}

hi eds great site, although highly addictive. just to say i really hope we keep aqualani, i mean for one if it is true we are trying to sell him i think its stupid, why not sell the likes of poulson who seems to think he's staying, also i know people thought spearing did well last year and to an extent he did although he's no gerrard. plus aqua is considerably more effective. so was just wondering what the situation is with aqua right now eds any news? {Ed002's Note - Aquilani is looking to leave, the club are happy to facilitate that but no one seems to be too interested. Chances remain of a move to Fiorentina.}

I think that Carroll will play as a lone striker. Downing, Suarez & Gerrard will play just behind him. Adam & Lucas will hold. I expect Adam to push forward a lot even though he will be sitting rather deep. No need for Kuyt on the right wing as we have Henderson. Kuyt will be a 3rd striker although he may very well start. I hate predicting the back line because of "ifs" , but "if" Cissokho signs he'll start. "If" Dann singns he'll start. "If" Agger stays fit he'll start. Carra is past his best. It's 50/50 between Kelly & Johnson. At the moment the team somewhat picks itself. We'll see Top 4 is a possibilty. I think Carroll & Suarez can get reallistically get 30 goals beween them. Gerrard & Kuyt can get 20 goals between them. Johnson, Downing, Adam should be able to get 15 goals between them. I really believe in Maxi as an impact sub who is definitely capable of 10 goals. Another player who will score a few is N'gog. Most will laugh at the N'gog comment but the same people would say, "Carroll will shine if the service is better", which is a true statement but so will N'gog.

17 Jul 2011 15:15:59
to be quite honest i believe that the signings so far have been astute and solid, each player has a fantastic attitude and work-rate, with each player offering a attribute which will enhance our team. i don't believe our team is in a dire situation as some may believe, with some fine tweaking we are up in the top four mix for definite. there is an incredible amount of negativity about what we have spent, but with meireles potentially going and 25 mil recouped from mascherano lat season 75 million of our net spend has came from outgoings, plus the media orientated increases in the prices of our signings does not reflect our actual outgoings. i do not believe our spending is finished, on the contrary we have spent large amounts on players, but i believe some relativly obscure smaller scale signings will come in, DC will come into his own in this aspect of our transfer dealings. we must not forget our strength of youth, granted some may not have the instant displays of extreme class that we demand, but when pep guardiola comments on the strength of your youth set up you know someone is doing something right, every great team is built upon a solid spine of youth graduates(ajax, barca, borrusia dortmund of last year, man u) as shanks once said "football is like a piano, you need 8 to carry it and 3 to play the damn thing", look at the signings, everyone complements the team, and will bring the best out of each other. this is the most optimistic i have felt for years going into a season, its a crying shame how some fans memories of last year and the improvements we have made since are not being recognized, have faith in the king and he will reward you for your loyalty.

Who would u like to c at the club that has been linked to the club and y do u think there the best choice. The three I would like to c are Adam Johnson (great when on the right and even on the left can cross well has a lot of pace can cut in and go down to the touchline and can also cover on the left if downing needed a rest or was injured has a great shot on him and can take a very good free kick) Scott Danns (is a liverpool fan and is a young quality centre half look at where birmingham were in the table before the west ham game where he got injured and then look where they finished without him just show how important he is they were 100 times better in defence) and a striker (just to cover our three main strikers so if kuyt plays on the right or someone else or him are injured then we have cover Ngog isn't up to the standard that we should have in our team if we don't get one not to worry as we have Adam Morgan)

I'd just like to make a few points. Firstly, regarding Aquilani. I know the opposition yesterday wasn't up to much but I think he still has a lot to offer. He has something that we lack - quick, first time, incisive passes and I can see him picking out Suarez's runs to devastating effect. I know a lot of people will say he can't do it in the Premiership. I remember people saying that Modric was too lightweight and would never cut in the Premiership when he struggled in his first season. Now, all the top teams are falling over themselves to spend £40m on him. At the end of Rafa's last season Aquilani looked like he was beginning to work it out, then we all know what happened when Roy came in. If he doesn't want to play in England - fair enough, but I'm not so sure he'd really want to go if he was wanted and had a chance of playing under a more attacking Manager like Kenny.

When I read some of the posts on here about Andy Carroll, I feel almost ashamed to support the same club as these so-called supporters. He's already been written off despite never playing a single game for us when fully fit and, more importantly, fully match fit. So what if he cost £35 million? Kenny thought he was worth it and thats all that should matter. Peter Beardsley endured a torrid first 6 months when he signed in 1987 and it's just as well the internet was not around then or his confidence would have been shot to pieces and he'd never have turned out to be one of the best players we've had at Anfield. Let's see how Carroll performs when fully fit, playing in a full strength side before you start criticising him.

Finally, this is nothing against Conor Coady as I sincerely hope he makes the grade at Anfield and has a successful career with us. However, I feel people are hyping him up to better than he is and expecting him to be the new Gerrard, just because he is an all action scouser playing in midfield. This is actually unfair on the lad. In my opionion Suso is a much better player than him, yet has not been given a chance. I'm hoping it's because Suso is almost 12 months younger than Coady and not because Kenny's British policy is infiltrating all levels of the club. Anyway, I don't want to contradict myself as I've asked people to trust Kenny's judgement on Carroll, so I'll trust it on Suso too. However, I'll be disappointed if he doesn't get some minutes on the pitch this season, either in Carling Cup or in the latter stages of matches that are already won.

This isn't a rumour as such, but I'd like to see what everyone's opinion is. If it is the case that we have to shift some 'deadwood' to make funds to buy someone else. Why have we blown £25 million on three players we didn't really need, Lucas, Gerrard and Meireles are all quality midfielders, so Adam and Henderson weren't immediately neccasery. And as for the Doni situation, we seem to sign a pointless goalkeeper nearly every year (note: Jones, Cavaleiri, Itandje, Carson etc.) I feel the money could have been spent on positions that actually needed strengthening such as left-back, and right-winger. To be honest Commoli's transfer policy seems abit daft to me, although I hope I'm wrong. I'd also like to mention i think Downing WILL be a good player for us and I'd like to see Aly Cissokho at anfield.

Just like to say great site ..and that im deligthed with the signings of Henderson, Adam and Downing ..but i still think we need to sign a good CB and LB ./.our defense has been suspect since we lost 3-1 to chelsea in the champions league a few seasons ago..then we also conceded 3 at bridge a few weeks later ..and then conceded 4 to Arsenal ..our defense just fell apart in the last few weeks of that season ....its been suspect ever since...Aurelio and Skrtel just aint good enough..Agger is always injured , Soto isnt bad cover but he aint good enough to play every week ..Carragher is getn on ..no disrespect to him ..and he, s one of my all time fav Liverppol players..great service he, s given to the club ...be unfortunately he wont be there for ever ..we good really do with buying some quality defenders this year ..Get rid of Konchesky, Degen, Aurelio and Skrtel ..and bring Cahill , Dann and a LB ..Cahill can be a replacement for Carra in a season or so and Dann for Skrtel ..not trying to be negative towards my team ..but in my opinion Liverpools defense is a problem area the few seasons..and the amount of soft goals we concede away from is a no no..our away from has been terrible for some years now..we need a stronger more agile back four ..CB, S who are comfortable on the ball and able to bring the ball out of defence and make good forward passes..

17 Jul 2011 13:58:06

I think the logical thing to do before signing anymore players (Except a left back maybe) is to ship out most of the deadwood we want gone, the Degen's and Jovanovic's of this world spring to mind. Once a chunk of the wage budget (wasted on poor players) is free'd up i'm sure maybe 2 players will be brought in, the way thing are at the moment the squad is overflowing with players that need to be sold,

do you think we should make a bid for shane long as back up striker think he is brillant player and would get him very cheap also i think we badly need a cb and another winger otherwise we going to get caught out against big teams {Ed009's Note - I do not think that Long will be joining Liverpool this season. We didn't get caught against the big teams last season, with one of the best records against the top 4 in the division, and our squad has significantly improved already. It has always been the smaller games Liverpool have struggled with.}

17 Jul 2011 13:17:35
i can understand there are a few players some of you consider Deadwood
but for years now we have had no strength in depth to the squad
Chelsea and utd have basically had 2 strong teams in there squad
spurs and city now also have

alot of people on here are saying we need to get rid of maxi, aqua, meireles, agger, ngog etc
meireles was our best player at the end of the season
maxi scored 2 consecutive haricks after getting his first against sunderland
ngog was played as a lone striker which may have been difficut for him but he still banged in 8 in 3 games
Carra has a year or two left in him, i personally feel he should take a sami hyypia style role now, get rid of the greek and we have some decent CBs coming through and whilst we have them Agger and Skrtel are our strongest CBs for the forseeable future
i feel Aqua will come good this season and DESERVES his chance

hopefully this season Kuyt is no longer a winger lmao

If Liverpool representatives in Madrid - What about Arbeloa coming back? Very consistent full back (right/left) - as good as anyone in premier league and will be pushed down pecking order with the signing of coentrao. A more than capable centre back as well.

It would be a dream to sign Arbeloa, Alonso and Higuain. What are your thoughts on Arbeloa.

What is going on with KK and Midfielders? How many is he going to buy If we were to buy a mid IMO we would only need a winger Weve got too many Mids, unless KK wants to play 2-7-1.. We are now apparently after Cattermole, I havent got a clue why, weve got Lucas and Spearing and Adam wo play that position, and weve also got Conor Coady who should be coming throught the team this year I can really see us playing 3-5-2 near all season with the amount of Mids KK wants

To all those fans who believe Aguero, Higuain, etc will come to Anfield are completely deluded. As much as I love Liverpool and hate to say it but our 'Glory Days' are behind us, and it's all in the past. Player's don't VALUE history in a football club anymore, they only value hard cash and trophies (usually because trophies lead to a pay bonus). Liverpool have had a shocking past couple of years and haven't been the Liverpool us fans love and adore, but since the return of KK, everything seems positive The team played with a sense of togetherness, Kenny has brought back the passion and desire to play for this football club because of everything it stands for. If a player isn't interested in coming to us because they want Champions League football, or want a ridiculous amount of cash, then they can sod off to teams who think with their wallets and not their heads/experience I would LOVE the likes of Aguero at Liverpool but we need to be realistic, we are in a rebuilding phase at this moment in time, and although we haven't signed the biggest, most arrogant names in the world, we've signed players who have shown they CAN play in the best league in the world. For the first time in years, Liverpool have an actual SQUAD of good players, and not a few individual amazing players.
I completely agree that we need another natural left back, and the likes of Aly Cissokho would be immense, however if the King decides not too buy him, then I'd support whoever he brought in as an alternative.
Even if our spendings done for the summer, us fans need to appreciate the players we HAVE, and not COULD HAVE. We've spent 100 million in the past 7 months on good players, and each player needs our undivided support, and lets face it, the King know's what he's doing, so if you back the King you need to back the players, because when it comes down to it, he will decide if a player is good enough to play for us, and not any of us.
Sorry for the rant people, it's just been bugging me seeing the same old rambling on here every day.

Thanks,

Hooch.

{Ed009's Note - We probably would have bid for Honda but we ran out of time in January after the hectic nature of the Torres transfer etc. In general, I would perhaps have bought a few more continental players but I trust Dalglish and the signings we have made, I am happy with. With regards to the proven striker, I am not entirely sure we will see another signed this year. Remember that Gerrard has arguably played his best football as a second striker, and that there are positions to be filled of far higher priority, such as centre back and left back.}

Ok, that being said and i do take your point about CB and LB, but last question, how do you see the line up (starting 11) as we stand today taking into account we havnt accually signed Aly Cissokho (and i do have my doubts if we will).? and who do you see him benching? by the way, i love the site, and you guys are doing a great job, keep up the great work.
Soulmiester. {Ed009's Note - so without any more signings?

Reina
Kelly Agger Skrtel Johnson

Henderson Gerrard Lucas/Adam, Downing

Suarez Carroll.

When we play 4-3-3 both Lucas and Adam will play and you can put Downing next to Suarez and Carroll/Kuyt I would imagine.}

Straight from the mouth of a Liverpool scout, Enrique is not a target, there is no further intrest, KK does not rate him. I could not get any more information regarding targets but will keep trying.
BigRedCootdawg {Ed002's Note - You wonder why Liverpool placed a bid for a player that Dalglish doesn't rate then?}

Well im gunna throw a cat amongst the lions.

Im really worried about andy carrol, am i the only one who noticed he just hasnt seemed to show up in the last two matches, not only that but everything about him worries me. his body language, his lack of correct positioning, i am really worried about this signing, i have a feeling he could be a huge flop. the only thing in my opinion he has going for him is to be a target man for knock downs for others to drop on.

Ed's>>>> honest opinions please. {Ed009's Note - I am certain he will not be a "massive flop". Yes, the jury is still out on the player but in my opinion we should give him the first few months of the season to see what he can do.}

Ed009>>> I get where you are coming from but correct me if im wrong but based on the points accumulated by the top 3 last season, surely every game makes a difference, do you think they are paying too much attention to the 15 home bred players rule?
This has to be the reason why we have supposedly missed out on some obvious signings that we could, if we had wanted to acquire. I.e. HONDA, MATA, I still think we really need to be looking for a proven striker. But who could this be??? {Ed009's Note - We probably would have bid for Honda but we ran out of time in January after the hectic nature of the Torres transfer etc. In general, I would perhaps have bought a few more continental players but I trust Dalglish and the signings we have made, I am happy with. Ed001's Note - in my opinion in the first half Meireles and Cole were terrible, but the rest of the team played fairly well, though Carroll had no service whatsoever he did keep their whole backline occupied. If only anyone else had got in the box, and Meireles and Cole hadn't been so poor, we could have had a few as we dominated the first. In the second half Aquilani stood out head and shoulders above anyone else, though his ability has always been excellent so it was never going to be an issue in a friendly which lacks in real physicality.

Thanks alot for the info Ed, much appreciated, Though what is your stance on what Dalglish will do with Aquilani? Meireles maybe old, but he wants to be there, I suspect both will be offloaded one way or another and Shelvey will go off on loan. (Poulsen will obv be offloaded_ leaving a total of 4 CM's excluding Henderson as I believe he will be used on the right.

RenegadeRed {Ed001's Note - I expect Aquilani to be sold if possible. The problem is that there is little interest in him.}

Not a rumour as such but after the performances in asia we are desperate for another CB After carragher goes off we tend too fall apart Dann for me would be ideal he is very JC like

17 Jul 2011 12:11:06
As many people have said Liverpool are in for cissoka, Scott Dann will be revisited in Jan remember Kyrgiakos signed for one more season to provide cover to the CB positions, Joe Cole will remain until Jan to provide cover for the Left and right wings. Up front we have Carroll and Suraez with Kuyt. If some of the deadwood can be moved out then we might sign a few more. Personally speaking I would love Sturridge to come in and maybe a couple more in January.

17 Jul 2011 12:05:54
This is for those who doubt Liverpool's ambition, and FSV backing, we have spent a massive amount, Downing upto £20M, Henderson upto £20M, Adam £8-10M, Carrol £35M, Suarez £23.5M, Doni imminent for around £2M and a LB, maybe Cissokho for around £10M then we have spent £120.5M since January, more signings than those iv stated are so unlikely for this and due to the fact that we would de-stabilise the squad.

Ed/s, what do you think our policy would be on further signings this window?

There is also the possibility of another Striker, but it is obvious we need to clear some deadwood first.

Please post on rumours.

Anfield Andy {Ed009's Note - I believe we could see a centre back and a left back sign before the end of the window. If we clear the deadwood I suppose there could be another attacker, but personally I think it unlikely we will buy more than 2 players unless an incredible deal becomes available.}

There has been a lot of support on this site for aqualani the last couple days.I for one agree, i think he did not get a fair chance remember benitez bought him while still injured(another masterstroke).He got a few games and then roy the boy shipped him out on loan.I think he should be given game time because with kd's influence i have no doubt he will be a valuable asset.Him and suarez together opening up defences.It is another great tactical option against other teams.After all it is a squad game.(RD.RED)

think we should sign diego as he would be the link between midfield n strikers, bit of craft. cahill at cb, and a pacey striker , would win the lge without a doubt , cissoko be a gr8 signing aswell

17 Jul 2011 11:46:36
I don't know why, but I keep having this feeling that Dalglish and Clarke will surprise many nxt season.

The Downing and Adam signings I found rather interesting.
We could just as easily have gone for (and likely obtained) the more obvious, "better" options: Mata, Banega/Defour/.

But no, Char and Stew were the targets we were after.
In spite of the cacophony of moans, the ridicule and growing sense of disbelief that the interest in Downing met, Dalglish was undetered. He could care no less.
He wanted his men.

The only logical conclusion to this--corroborated by the Kop's most storied legend's last stint at the club--is that Dalglish knows what he's specifically looking for, and to do.

He has a trick, a damn good trick up his sleeve; an ace.
He's got summat major and unexpected planned for this team.

At the risk of offending some folk, I've considered that, those who've been outraged and underwhelmed by the signings of Downing and Adam rather lack the insight to see beyond the obvious and don't have a grasp of Kenny's ways.

The rare few who have the perceptiveness and insight to grasp Kenny's, and indeed, LFC's, game have no issues whatsoever with those players.

There's a lad who occasionally writes here, Drew. My favourite poster by a country mile.
He authors truly spot-on, useful postings with insight and critical analysis.

I'm sure that if all fans would take a little time to analyse how signing X will fit into the picture, we'd see less of this moaning about players.

The coaches aren't stupid. They wouldn't just go and knowingly buy an inferior. Detailed research on a player is made, and a decision to buy or not buy him is made.

Fans would do well to understand for what existing reasons and potential reasons a player was brought in.
Those with the perceptivness and insight to do so will.
Those who don't will continue failing to see beyond the obvious, what with their limited intellect.

Drew, good man, you top drawer. I thoroughly enjoy your posts. Keep 'em coming.

Ed002, is Cissokho rather still close to Arsenal than LFC, as per your views some two weeks back?
I hear that with Enrique leaning towards the Gooner, and Baines priced out of any move, Aly could be we man.

I also saw a note from you, Ed002, that, although unlikely, a deal involving the Aquaman and Vargas could be done. Having signed Downing and likely going to bid for Aly, do you really see Vargas being pursued?

Class Of 2005 {Ed002's Note - As far as I am concerned all press reports saying that a bid for Cissokho has been accepted are incorrect, or at least way premature. Vargas is available and it is possible Liverpool may wish to strike a deal involving Aquilani but I suspect that Fiorentina will only want to take Aquilani on loan and Vargas will be sold outright - perhaps to another EPL side such as Aston Villa.}

Hi ed

I read yesterday Mr commoli did state that our transfer activity was coming to a close, I find it quite alarming that we still haven't been successful in finding a solution in our problem positions, left back, centre half and a proven goalscorer.
We seem to have spent an awful lot of attention and money on buying creative players in positions we are already covered.
David ngog is not premier league material so if Carroll or suarez are on the treatment table is kuyt the answer? I think not.

Daniel agger, for all his promise, has proved to be unreliable and Martin skrtel would not get in any other team in the premiership so why are we dragging our heels over this?

Get cahill and Enrique bought and a proven goal machine.

I hope kenny hasn't forgotten the basic footballing principals of scoring and stopping the opposition from finding the net?

That's £50m on 2 midfielders and a winger so far, all i'll say is I hope Mr Henry has deep pockets, our problems are far from over until we get this right once and for all.

17 Jul 2011 11:44:30
whats with the recent increase in the cattermole rumours? We dont need another midfielder?? {Ed009's Note - I wouldn't read too much into it if I were you.}

Ed does it make any difference for liverpool if i order the new shirt from the online shop instead off a local sport shop? {Ed002's Note - Marginally. Liverpool are paid a fixed annual fee (about £12M) for all of their shirt sales by Adidas but they do still recieve a small profit from a shirt sale to cover any names and numbers added.}

17 Jul 2011 11:03:10
Just to say - I have not seen our friendlys as I have witnessed many pre-seasons where our poor players raise their game in the past and secure a future at LFC for another season - Diouf, Cheyrou, Smicer, Jovanovic, Poulsen, Degen .. ETC ETC, but my view on Aquaman is unchanged. He is a class talent.

All this talk of him not wanting to play for LFC is BS. Has it occurred to any of you guys if you were treated like crap - you too would not want to stay too. I sincerely wish if he moves he goes to another EPL team - so all you numpties see what a real talent he is and this nonsense of him not able to adapt in the EPL be proven to be justa myth. I just dont get it how soem of our fans were willing to back Babel - when it was crystal clear he had zero game intelligence - yet this lad has it all - but we dont be fair with him. Apparent he has an awesome minutes per assist ratio than most players.

The guy was injured but when he recovered was never given a proper chance. I too would want to leave if I was treated the same. You have to think about your career and family too. Us fans easily forget this and just look at the wages.

Luke Mathews.

17 Jul 2011 11:02:48
ed, wasnt there a problem with aly cisskho and his teeth which stopped him for joining ac milan? wat was that all about {Ed009's Note - they believed dental problems could cause chronic lower back injuries later in his career. Since that point two years ago, he has not been overly injury prone and I don't personally believe it would have an adverse effect on any forthcoming transfer.}

i think it would be crazy to try and offload players like joe cole and aquilani, our first 11 has always been able to beat any one on our day, what we have always lacked is depth, now with the arrivals this summer and the 2 in jan, we are actually looking really strong. yes they are on big wages..... because there both good players.cole is lacking confidence, but is looking alot sharper, it wasnt that long ago the entire country was screaming at capello to play him to try and save our world cup campaign. and as for aquilani, on the ball he is as good as any, so what if he doesnt like to try and break legs in tackles, thats not his game, he set up or played apart in how many goals yesterday? could lucas or spearing do that? did shelvey who was on the pitch at the same time look half as good? surely if we sell these players then the squad will be in the same shape as last season, no depth to deal with injuries, or players to come on and change the way we play, aquilani was fantastic yesterday, and could see him and suarez doing some real damage. i find it difficult to find the logic in building a team around andy carroll when his fitness is awfull and will miss alot of games next year. suarez isnt gonna win balls in the box so we should have players who can play to the strengths of both forwards.
our central midfield in gerrard, adam, aquilani, henderson, mereiles and lucas, is as good as any in the prem and with spearing, cody and shelvey the back up aint bad either.

poulsen, jovanovic, ngog, konchesky (aready gone) brad jones, degan, elzhar, insua (played better yesterday) there the deadwood, they are the players that do not improve the squad and will never improve the squad there the ones who im sure will be sold to reduce the wage bill.

Well done eds, tremendous site which keeps the adrenaline of us fans inside pumping and eager to look out for the next move :)

I spotted earlier that one of you had said about us needing to sign a player who can make something out of nothing...and we only have Suarez at the moment. I seriously think you are spot on. No offence to the English, the days of teamwork and passion and determination still exists but we are moving onto a new era of technical ability. Someone replied and said we do not need tricksters?? Look at the top clubs, the tricksters or so called technical wise AWESOME players are making the difference. This is what i labelled them as a "Moment of Brilliance category". We only have Suarez who can make something out of nothing. Do not talk about how Gerrard can shoot from far. It is an era whereby players run through the defence...ie Nasri of Arsenal, Not so Nani but still capable to do so of Manutd, Johnson of Mancity. Look at how the under 21s for england fail so badly. They lack that edge to break through defences. Do not laugh at tricksters, ask ourself as liverpool fans how badly we wish we could have one ourselves. IF not, why are ppl asking for Marquee signings for Aguero, Neymar, Ganso?? It wont happen, but the trio are not the only skillful ones around.

At the moment, KK has solved our left side with Downing who has technical ability. On the right, it is right to say that Kyut does not have it. And so does Henderson. Do not be too excited about him. Adam and Downing will be our best buys. Henderson, i hope am wrong, but i have seen him last season, absolutely overprice.

Looking at our current situation, do not be surprise that Insua and Aurelio, with robinson will be our left backs this season. Roy Hotdog was wrong to replace Konchesky for Insua. Insua is definitely still a decent leftie. As for the midfield areas, am sad to say but Meireles is more certain to be gone than Aquilani. Aquilani if given a chance will prove to be a hit and the able replacement for Gerrard if injured.

Eds, will there be any chance of us signing someone on the right wing to make us strong on both sides?
If our right hand side is solved, we will be a force to be reckon with. {Ed002's Note - I am not convinced that anyone for the RW is being looked for at present.}

Then it hit me steven gerrard is always sayin that he will be back soon then the injury worsens. I have a feeling stevie gs career could be over What do you think eds? I hope it is not true best cm in the last decade in my opinionm cheeers posh red YNWA {Ed009's Note - there is nothing but rumours regarding his injury at the minute. I doubt Dalglish would lie and say he will be back for the new season if he won't be.}

please post on rumours page.any idea of are formation next season.the midfield is quite over crowded thanks {Ed009's Note - I can not tell you what is in the mind of Kenny Dalglish, but I would suggest we will play a mix of 4-3-3 and 4-4-2, with Adam, Gerrard and Lucas playing in the three and then Adam partnering Gerrard in must win games against smaller teams, and Lucas doing the same in bigger, predominantly away games. Henderson will perhaps be mainly utilised on the right.}

ok here it goes, at the risk of getting slaughtered... ALthough Aquilani DID play very well yesterday i think he was a bit ...selfish in his decision making. not in that he kept the ball to himself but that he did what he wanted to do when he wanted to do it in a way which seemed out of syncwith the team AT TIMES. he took to much out of it when a nice simple pass was on to keep the diamonds of passing going. if you look back at his performance as well he played at least 6 or 7 real hospital passes and were lucky no injuries were picked up.
i know he is a very talented footballer, no doubt, i often argued the case with fellow reds but to me yesterday his performance smacked of someone who was trying to impress scouts , not the manager. i also noted that the body language of the players seemed kind of tense, no smiles. I dont want to be negative , im hugely optimistic about the possibilties this season..these are just things that struck me. eds? anyone? am i alone in thinking this? {Ed009's Note - he does have incredibly moody body language. He had perked up a little yesterday in comparison to the last match, but it is not dissimilar to the way Torres was for a year or so before leaving.}

Yeah Aqua is so world class that he can't get an Italian club to fork out £12 for his services. Come on be serious He is a good passer of the ball, but he can't tackle & even worse, he hates being tackled. He certainly ain't gonna cut it when Cahill or Shawcross get at him The I
-------

Silly comment. Nobody likes being tackled. If you're a lightweight player then you are agile and more likely to evade tackles, alonso did this all the time because he read the game well. Aqua seemed to do the same last year in italy so if he can adapt to prem pace there's no reason he couldn't be a good player. As long as he is willing to wipe the slate clean and so do we he will be a good player.

Juve wanted to keep him they just wanted to short us on the price, same thing they did with aguero. Let's give aqua one season at least.

Mr E
------------------------------------------

Yeah Juve wanted to keep him but they wouldn't fork out £12 million for him. Hardly a show of faith.
To compare Alonso & Aqua That's a joke, right? Alonso didn't mind the physical side one bit & was always putting the boot in & receiving his fair share also. Maybe Aqua should put a "Please don't tackle" around his neck while playing.

ED, The situation is hilarious.Now we are linked with Cattermole.We have already bought Hendo and Adam also we have good midfielders like Aqui, Meireles, Lucas, Spearing.in your opinion what will be the next seasons formation?........BTW a superb website {Ed002's Note - I would suspect that the purchases made have been done to give flexibility to the formation. Liverpool did play with three at the back quite successfully at one point, so a 3-5-1-1 is not out of the question.}

I know it's not really a rumour but if we shift some of the unwanted players and got cissohko, cahill, and either mata or a. Brief browse throught the sports news on internet.. Cattermole? Does anyone think this is true? I would have thought there was more than adequate cover for centre midfield, unless they know exactly who is leaving and when.
Happy so far with the dealings, just thought this one was a bit strange.

Just a quick thought. How bad do we need a centre back if we do sign cissokho? Cissokho will then be first choice left back, Johnson first choice right back with Flano as cover and robinson to cover Cissokho. Now we get to play Kelly in his preferred position of CB alongside Carra/Skrtel/Agger. Kelly playing in that position is similar to signing a new player, and we save 15-20million pound to sign a winger/striker instead.

Cheers,

scot dunn must be signed now ...as we need cover in there both carra n agger r not consistent with age n injury respectively ...

LFC have rubbished claims we are interested in Cissoko & John Henry has stated David Ngog & Aqua man are going no where soon. Aqua was my man of the match yesterday his vision & passing was sublime. Charlie Adam showed why we determined to get him, he looks to fill the area we are lacking since Alonso left. Insua also had a good game he worked hard down the left flank & got some good crosses in. Andy Carroll caused havoc with his pressence in the box but still lacks fitness. With Henderson & Downing still to play I think we have done OK in the transfer window so far. If Gerrard can stay fit & with young lads coming through we will have a good season can't wait to see Downing & Henderson to play hopefully next week at Hull

Am I alone in the opinion that we should atleast be looking to bring in a further striker? Maybe somebody in the later stages of their career to play maybe 10-15 games a season and to provide cover in case of another injury to Carrol or an injury to Suarez? I just finished watching uraguay vs Argentina and did keep having cringes everytime somebody went in on Suarez It only takes one bad tackle and we are relying on n'gog for maybe a month. It's just a bit of a risk even somebody like roque santa cruz or some thing( obviously their are better options out there but he is prem proven and would cost buttons plus might not require big wages as he may see it as a chance to atleast be apart of a team)

how many players in our rivals have that incredible flair all throughout the team?..

we have the best keeper in the league if we sign cissokho we will have de most defensively sound LB..

CB is a little dodgy and from what i understand one wont be bought this summer but if it is seen as a problem it will be our number 1 target in January...

RB johnson and flanno as good as any pair

Adam Gerrard and Lucas as a midfield 3... adam created as many good chances from through balls as anyone.. a fit gerrard and no one in the world does what he does as good.. and lucas is turning into one of the best holding midfielders in the league and the stats last season have him at second behind tiote? i think...

LW downing... more crosses than any other winger..

ST Carrol able to finish off crosses better than anyone..

RW Suarez the "flair" u all crave and a lethal finisher

then we have unbelievable potential in hendo coady flanno robo sterling wisdom suso etc.. ive probbed missed a couple here...

Hey Ed,
First of all, Fantastic job on this website
My question was that with Ngog on a good role in the last couple of matches, is it likely that when Liverpool take two strikers upfront, he will be starting rather than Carroll?
Secondly, is there any chance of Kuyt starting in an attacking position alongside Suarez? {Ed002's Note - I don't see N'gog taking Carroll's place. I am sure there will be games where Kuyt starts. I assume you are not a fan of Andy Carroll.}

This is not a rumour just an opinion. Throughout this transfer window it appears to me we are building a squad that KK can mold together to play a certain way. Looking at what other successful managers have done in the past they do not always have to have the best players to create a winning team, it is the system in place and the way it is executed by the players that matters. In the past we have had underrated midfield players such as Whelan & Didi that were only recognised when they were not in the side. We now have players in the middle who can create for others and score goals, the biggest concern we should have is the lack of pace at the back, although this will depend on the formation we play & how deep we defend. What can be said is that the squad has far more quality than we have had for a number of years. Let Kenny work his magic and watch the good times roll again.

Doubt LFC will sign any more players this transfer window, however Cissoko and Dann for around £20million would be money well spent.

I reckon Baines should now be our No.1 target. Top class LB with huge potential to be world class My question is Ed, is he on our radar, is it in anyway likely, and roughly whats his market value? {Ed001's Note - City were priced out of a move for him, I think that is all I need say.}

Did suso, Morgan and sterling not make the trip to china and Malaysia? Any news on the future of dani Pacheco? Is jovanovic close to completing his transfer to anderlecht.
One last question, what is the future of brad jones? Are Liverpool looking to offload him also? Heard he ha suffered from a few family issues. Great site, please post and replies would be most welcome

hi ed's i was just wanting your latest thoughts on carrol? what do you expect from him this season? i think he is a good player but will have to work hard and be on the top of his game if he wants to be our number 9.The signing of downing will be great for carrol its just a shame about the copa america i would have liked suarez in action with carrol now to get the patnership going.great site ed's keep up the good work
JJ blackpool {Ed001's Note - I don't expect a lot from Carroll, all he has to do is be the focal point, to keep the defenders occupied so that the rest of the team has more space to play in. The moment they turn their focus to one of the players running into the space he is creating I expect him to snatch a goal. I don't expect him to please everyone, very few people see the work he does off the ball, very few people notice how both centre backs keep getting drawn to him and the way he can bully them around the pitch. He is not there for Carra to hoof the ball out from the back and to nod it down, he is there to create space for others in the centre and to get on the end of crosses. Anything else he does will be a plus in my opinion.}

re: Xabi Alonso v Aquilani

every1 knows how good aquliani is, he was bought in to replace alonso in the heart of the defence. I still remember how well he played against atletico madrid in 2009. So we could build a new midfield around him.

Rafa left, Managers changed and we nursed him through a season of injuries so he could help us. Then he left for italy when the going got through at anfield, which was very disrepectful to the club that paid him through his injury and paid the large transfer fee for him. (£20m)

Wanted him long term.

-So he left for italy so he could get his international place back for italy.
-Juventus: he loves playing for Juventus, understandable. (he left us for the man utd of Italy)
-Plus his injury season, fast pace of prem, liverpool city, scousers, family issues, leaving friends in italy for england must come into it.

Now he is back for the short term while we find a italian club willing to pay £15million for such a good player. juventus where unwilling to pay £15millions for him and he cost liverpool £20million.

He doesn't want to be at the club, he was forced back to anfield while his agent figures out the next move. Now he has to impress visiting scouts in order to get move back to italy as i don't think liverpool are willing to lose £20million on him.

He is still a asset to the club, and professional player. So he may get desperate and do a Paul konchesky.

Im guessing Kenny will have to Window Shop him when the premiership starts. He will easily get a starting place because of his quality.

I expect him to leave at the end of the transfer window. Once he has won player of the month award for Aug. Get us off to flying start.

It would of been nice for him to stay, but he doesn't like england.

I am excited about coming season, downing Adam Henderson and doni all good signings, would like to see Aquilani givn a chance but it's Upto him, he needs to knuckle down and want to play for Liverpool, think he could be a big asset next season. Lot of talented midfielders now at the club, we need a top left back as well as a top defender, Scott dann and cissokho would complete a very successful summer, n gog could be used as a back up striker.
Insua and Robinson can provide cover at left back, Kelly and Flanagan cover for johnson at right back and dann and skrtel to cover for carragher and agger. The good times are back people, believe in the king, a proper run club once again, brings a smile to my face

I used to play 5 a side with Scott Dann in the power league on Everton valley. He always said he'd jump at the chance to play for Liverpool. So if a bid is made, he'll pick us over other birders
