What happens to Rafa and Pellegrini?
Who manages Atletico and Bayern?

Bit of work needed there King Luis.

17 Dec 2015 22:12:50
Does that mean Benitez to athletico then haha.

17 Dec 2015 22:57:23
All playing catch up to Leicester.

17 Dec 2015 22:25:35
Surely Brendon Rogers and Chelsea are a match made in heaven now?

17 Dec 2015 23:58:22
I would lmfao if that happened Annie. you wanted a bunch of tools? You've got them now buddy!

17 Dec 2015 21:21:18
A question for Ed001.

Last year when Markovic arrived you said that you didn't believe we had a good enough coaching setup for him to reach his potential. I feel Grujic has a similar touted potential as Markovic and is a similar age to Markovic when we bought him.

Do you believe that we now have a good enough coaching setup for these sorts of players to really become great players with us?

Following on from that do you now think there is a chance for Markovic to come back in to the squad and really make a name for himself in the future?

Finally, do you now see us having a clearer path for these young players like Grujic/Markovic ect to develop and make their way in to the first team? Previously we seemed to buy good young players with seemingly no plan for them.

I appreciate your work Ed, keeps it up! (This goes for all the Eds! ) .

Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes to all questions. The club is in a much better position for working with younger players and enabling them to reach their potential. It is what Klopp made his name doing, so fingers crossed he can repeat the trick with us.}

17 Dec 2015 22:14:29
Do you see markovic staying next season then? I hope he gets another shot, I know he's not setting turkey alight but I think with him it's just confidence, he showed glimpses of his skills and abilities, showed a good work ethic but not quite that next step.

{Ed001's Note - I think he will get a chance.}

18 Dec 2015 00:03:03
Hi Ed, if we do confirm the move, do you think this is likely succession planning for Lucas in the long term? I have to admit it's been one potential weak spots in my view, although Can is showing he can adapt to play there.

{Ed001's Note - Grujic? If so, it is to a degree, but also someone to learn from him in the short term.}

20 Dec 2015 01:37:22
I know Marko hasn't done great since being at pool. He has played but you could argue half the time now where he should have played!

I feel the kids got potential and hoping Klopp and his team could really help him become a top player :)

I'd much rather see if we can turn our own players into top class players than buy. That said we do need to look at some areas. I'm loving this season and watching the team develop and i think it's nice knowing we have such a good chance to have a absolute worldie team in a few years!

17 Dec 2015 15:50:54
Hi ed's i know this is a tall ask, but would it be possible for you to put a report together of strength and depth of each position running down to the U18's.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I have been trying to think of the best way to do this, as it is difficult with younger players, who will often change position a lot, sometimes they are only playing a particular one to learn rather than because it is one they are likely to play. I will do it in the form of an article when I get a chance. It is now on my to do list.}

17 Dec 2015 20:42:21
This would be brilliant and great insight Ed. I'm sure we all understand circumstances change but would be great to get your view on it.

Out of interest. How big is the To Do List!? (And you can't add that question to the do list ;) )

{Ed001's Note - if I just sat and worked on it and did nothing else, there would be enough there to keep me going for about a month, maybe more. A lot of the stuff is not for this site though, there are only 4 or 5 things on it for this site at the moment.}

17 Dec 2015 18:10:20
One thing I'll miss is mourinho's post match interviews after defeats, especially this season. I was hoping it would last till the end of the season but all good things come to an end right. I didn't mind Jose after he left Chelsea the first time, but since he's been back, I saw why I despised him the first time. I just wish he was here a bit longer so Klopp could step on his plastic club some more.

17 Dec 2015 19:55:17
The "sacked" one :)

17 Dec 2015 22:13:28
I miss Ian Holloway and Nigel Pearson's interviews more.

18 Dec 2015 01:24:59
Can't say I miss Holloway. Complete tit who was given far too much air time by Sky because he went off on one about Rooney's wages early in the season.

18 Dec 2015 08:04:28
Di Canio was my favourite.

18 Dec 2015 08:05:40
Ian Holloway's comments on his envy of Ronaldo would live on well deserved fame.

18 Dec 2015 10:37:34
Holloway telling his turkeys he's moving Christmas is the best interview ever given!

17 Dec 2015 18:06:18
Hypothetical question time.

If Rodgers had survived this long and Mourinho was now jobless, who would be calling for Liverpool to try to get Mourinho in?

I for one would still be hoping that they chose Klopp as I would hate to support someone so moody and petulant but you can't argue that he's had success.

Would you want Mourinho at Liverpool if he was coming in to replace Rodgers?

Discuss.

Believable1 Unbelievable12

17 Dec 2015 18:30:02
Depends on the alternatives but my default answer is "no thanks"

17 Dec 2015 18:38:48
There were plenty on here.
It goes to show how hard it is to motivate a team, on a losing streak.

17 Dec 2015 18:44:16
I asked this awhile ago before Rodgers was sacked. I for one would have loved Jose. To me the bottom line is winning. Jose knows how to. All that said I freaking love Klopp and would not have any other manager in charge
YNWA.

17 Dec 2015 18:50:16
I'm afraid for me the bottom line is not winning
I wouldn't want him at any cost.

17 Dec 2015 19:16:57
No thanks. Rather have Pascoe and Marsh in charge for the rest of the season that that man.

17 Dec 2015 19:24:53
The BBC have put together a decent article stating that Jose Mourinho is good at short term success but hasn't yet built a dynasty. I find this interesting as I was sure that Jose bought several players that lifted the Champions League under Roberto Di Matteo. Regardless I would hate to watch JM's negative tactics on a weekly basis.

17 Dec 2015 19:33:07
I was quite surprised that he didn't sign robben, lampard, Cole, makele and cech. All ranieri and he also sound out drogba.

17 Dec 2015 20:16:56
Of course I would have signed him if Klopp wasn't coming. He is a proven winner in three different league. and he is not the age Ferguson was when he won his first title with United. Cann't see one reason why not sign him. if he would have bring us a first title after 25 years what a reason is there not to bring him? becuase he is a bit grumpy? all this negative football talk is rubbish. In the seasons Chelsea won titles they played very good football. Last year with Hazard and costa in great form they played fantastically well as they did with Drgoba and Lampard. And yes they also knew how to defend, what is wrong with that? I wish we would. I never understand all these 'purists', same like the people here who say it isgood that Suarez has gone because of the damage to the clube reputation, what a lot of bxxxs. When ferguson left, Mourinho was desperate to go to United so do the rumours say, but United thought he doesn't suit their style so they brought Moyce instead, seem like some popel here would have done the same. I am very happy with Klopp and hope he stays with us from mnay years but the second he leaves I will be very happy with Jose coming.

17 Dec 2015 21:07:34
That's exactly what I ment Fan.
He is a proven good manager, so goes to show how hard it is to motivate a team on the decline.

17 Dec 2015 22:39:03
Jose of say 5 years ago maybe. His loveability factor has changed to a bitter man. No thanks.

17 Dec 2015 22:17:24
If it was mourinho or Rodgers yes, but no other situation would I want him.

17 Dec 2015 22:14:48
All day for me.

18 Dec 2015 02:51:13
Sure! Get him in and sack him immediately after 1st title.

17 Dec 2015 12:23:16
Echo and others reporting that Grujic is closing in on a move to Liverpool.

I know Ed002 you have said the club are working on it. Has this moved forward in the last day or so?

{Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

17 Dec 2015 16:35:01
so moirinho back to madrid then? Bentiez back to chelsea? Lol all the best to mourinho at times you were hilarious other times controversial but always agood manager regardless of how his teams play his trophy count was great.

17 Dec 2015 16:58:36
He's a piece of work, good riddance and I wouldn't expect to see him back at Real anytime soon.

17 Dec 2015 17:27:58
I have to say in glad he's gone and I hope he goes to manage in a different league. He's petulant at his best and an absolute embarrassment to football at his worst.

It's about time he got called out for it. Before, he could hide his antics behind his success, unfortunately he can't do that right now after some poor performances from key players where they've really let him down he's been sacked.

Successful? Sure, but someone who I don't want working in the epl. The referees and assistants might get a break now!

17 Dec 2015 17:38:48
Your not special anymore.

17 Dec 2015 19:25:17
It his antics in the past that have come back to haunt him. you can`t get that many people peed off at you down the years and expect that all that karma won`t come calling at some point. Pride cometh before the fall and there you have it. I hope he learns from this and learns to be humble and grateful for where he is at in his life.

17 Dec 2015 16:24:57
Just read James McClean's interview where he called Klopp an idiot. how can he of all people call anyone an idiot. he must be the thickest footballer ever to set foot on a football pitch and his list of mess ups is to long to go into. for WBA and there fans sake he should be stopped by the club from opening his mouth in any public forum.

Believable12 Unbelievable4

17 Dec 2015 17:02:07
His interview says it all about him.
I hope Klopp doesn't comment, just nail WBA at the Hawthorns.

17 Dec 2015 16:38:06
Gerry Francis a coach at Wba more or less made a laugh of liverpool on sky sports yesterday for klopp and players acknowledging the fans in a positive manner. personally I would love to get back to the days when teams and players of this class were sent away with nothing but a good hiding. klopp will hopefully implement this.

17 Dec 2015 19:33:32
We will have another go at them this season and all will be settled on the pitch. No need to talk trash to a team whose idea of playing good footie is parking two buses and trying to the opposition players by going for their legs. we are bigger and better than that. As for the comments from the player and assistant, who cares what they think. Prolly just jealous that Klopp is made him and his manager look like fools after the equalizer because they thought they had won. See you at the Hawethorns where on the pitch, no trash talking will save you then, McLean!

17 Dec 2015 21:22:12
Just as an add on to my post, I'm Irish born and bred, that clown McLean represents ROI and will for a number of years and what I said about him is only the truth. Whatever he thinks of Klopp he should just keep his mouth shut. his poppy antics, he applauding in front of away fans who he played for the list is endless. he's a dope nothing else. if he wasn't a footballer he'd be singing for his supper.

17 Dec 2015 23:44:21
He's from derry sully and a part of the town well known to be the home of morons, which is just over the border from me in donegal. can't stand the young fella just an idiot.

17 Dec 2015 14:46:08
Wow Mourinho sacked again.
Thought he'd be backed.

17 Dec 2015 15:02:04
Player power at Chelsea. I'm not a fan of mourinho but his players did not put the performances in for him. Hopefully Rodgers gets the job :)

17 Dec 2015 15:08:12
Question is. Who do they replace him with?

17 Dec 2015 15:13:28
Hiddink is taking over for the rest of the season.

17 Dec 2015 15:14:16
Pep, and Ancelotti to Bayern I'm guessing.

17 Dec 2015 15:25:23
Biggest mistake was infuriating Eva Carneiro. That was the beginning of the end :)
Hell hath no fury.

17 Dec 2015 15:28:39
Extremely stupid decision. The players have let him down severely. Player power wins again.

17 Dec 2015 15:41:21
According to Sky Chelsea have said they already have someone to take over but haven't said who I agree with Big Al Hiddink till the summer and then ask Guardiola what he wants to take the job.

17 Dec 2015 15:45:06
How is it a stupid decision? Just because he is Jose? Any manager in the same situation would have been sacked.

17 Dec 2015 16:25:03
Our current manager was in a very similar position at Dortmund and they didn't sack him.

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't really in a similar situation. The players were very public and vocal in their support of him and showed it in their performances.}

17 Dec 2015 16:30:41
It's easier to sack a manager and get another in, that try and ring the changes in the team. Bet a top manager could win the league with that squad, just need a massive kick up the arse.

17 Dec 2015 17:02:57
Might have to go and support Chelsea if Brendan gets the job 😆😉.

17 Dec 2015 17:18:19
Edd001 chelseas players have done mourinho no favours. SHocking performances from the big players.

17 Dec 2015 17:27:38
I have to say i'm glad he's gone and I hope he goes to manage in a different league instead. He's petulant at his best and an absolute embarrassment to football at his worst.

Successful? Sure, but someone who I don't want working in the epl. The referees and assistants might get a break now!

17 Dec 2015 16:46:21
Remember him punching his Chelsea badge when they stopped us winning the league. well Chelsea decided he can go and get a new badge. my guess is utd, he is hateful enough for them and as much as I dislike the man I would fear that scenario.

17 Dec 2015 18:11:53
Ramos taking over at cfc.

17 Dec 2015 18:21:22
I agree with tj. didn't cesc come out the other day and claim at least to the media that it is the players responsibility etc. Do you not think it a premier league reaction, rather than the players.

Klopps bad season in Dortmund do you think he would of still had a job if we we were bottom of the league now?

17 Dec 2015 19:10:15
Pankej

I totally agree with you

Who wouldn't throw a fit for getting rid of Eva the woman is an inspiration to all .

Put a smile on anyone's face that girl

Mourinho has terrible manners towards women and to take away the best thing within his club he's employed by even if she is a doctor she was serious eye candy and as I said an inspiration to all at the club :D

Could do with her to work on Sturridge lol never know it might work ;)

17 Dec 2015 19:40:50
Nonsense! If he gets all the credit when the players win trophies (cos he barely gives them credit to begin with), why should he not be getting the blame when things go south? The players have been aweful yes, but do you think they will try any harder when the manager trashes them when they lose like he did after the loss vs Leicester? I don`t think so. Comparing him to Knlopp is a false argument. Klopp built that team with nothing but scraps and was the reason Dortmund and some of their players became world class stars. he had one bad season and the players never gave up and kept playing for him. All got turned around when his injured starts came back and got 7th and played a cup final. Mou has been peeing off other managers and some players for years and maybe it was hight time he got his dose of Karma, IMO. Just like BR, if he`s getting credit for the wins, he should be getting the blame and the chop for the losses. The laws of football have been respected here.

18 Dec 2015 00:25:24
I honestly believe Chelsea have a massive problem called "John Terry". He isn't going to last forever and needs replacing but he has too much influence. Cross John Terry as a manger and it will cost you your job.

17 Dec 2015 13:31:46
Just saw the Liverpool fixtures : starting from 26 Dec to 17 Jan we have matches every 3-4 days. This includes the EPL (notably Leicester, Arsenal and United), Carling Cup and FA Cup.

We need everyone fit and firing.

1. Sturridge
2. Benteke : pair with Studge or lone striker. Offers something different.
3. Ibe and Origi : Subs for impacting games late on.
4. Henderson, Lucas and Can : Midfield engines and defensive mids.
5. Lallana, Coutinho and Firminho : creative and attacking mids.
6. Skertel and Sakho : Now that Lovren is out, need to wrap them in cotton wool.
7. Moreno and Clyne : With Flanno and Smith available there is some cover here.
8. Miner, Allen and Toure : Backups
9. Mignolet: Bogdan should be enough cover.

17 Dec 2015 13:09:13
Hi Reds,

I was daydreaming ahead to next season (as you do) trying to decide what various possibilities could happen with reference to each position.

Posting about all positions in one post would be far to long so I thought I would start a debate beginning with Goalkeepers.

What do people realistically see Liverpool doing this Summer with relation to keepers, and what do people hope to see?
Lets keep it realistic.

We currently have Mignolet and Bogdan. Fulton in goal for the U21's, with Ward and Vigouroux on loan.

For me I cannot see us selling a keeper this summer, however competition will be brought in for Mignolet with the idea of replacing him as the no1.
I am unsure and undecided whether the replacement will be purchased or if Ward will be promoted to the first team.
I think personally I would like to see Ward get the chance.

Believable3 Unbelievable0

17 Dec 2015 13:41:11
Why can't you see us selling a keeper? I don't get that.

I would like us to sell Mignolet and buy a better keeper.

Bogdan is a decent sub. If Ward can prove himself then get him in the first team.

Simple for me, Migs out, better keeper in.

17 Dec 2015 13:54:42
True there could be the possible sale of Mignolet, but I can't see him wanting to leave. its all well and good wanting to sell them but its another thing getting them off the books. And If Ward were promoted then Mignolet might be kept on the books as competition incase things went wrong for Ward.

17 Dec 2015 14:12:49
Migs will go if he knows he's no longer in the first team plans and the asking price was realistic.

17 Dec 2015 14:26:54
I don't know why I just have a feeling he will be here next season, could be wrong though. Its wait and see I guess. We are both in agreement though that he needs to be replaced.

I think Bogdan will be kept as number 2, and it will be interesting to see what happens with Ward? He will be wasted if he goes back to the reserves.
He either needs to be competing for the number 1 spot next season or sent on a more competitive loan, championship or even prem level.

17 Dec 2015 16:45:10
He won't go back to reserves mate, he seems to be doing well and will get another loan if he isn't gunna get a fair crack at being 1st choice with us next year mate. Look at what Chelsea did with their keeper and he ended up epic no point wasting talent at his age he needs competitive footy.

17 Dec 2015 20:58:08
If Aberdeen stay on their current form and finish 2nd in the SPL. Do they not get champs league next year?
If so leaving him there for another season getting champs league experience would surly be a win win.?

In the mean time what do you do with Migs?

Replace him with a young keeper and Ward will never get a chance?

keep him and our results could continue to be in different?

Maybe get an older more experienced keep, ie (like Cech) could be the answer, for
A short term keeper, while we wait for ward.
All be it that we may pay large wages for his services, but hopefully when the time comes that Ward replaces him, Wards wages would be sufficiently less, so this would average that out.
Especially if he plays as our No.1 for say the next 10 years.

Plan B
Sell Migs and replace with young proven quality, big wages etc?

{Ed001's Note - not even the winners of the SPFL are guaranteed CL football.}

17 Dec 2015 08:59:05
I feel Ed002's comments about us posters not being very fair to the players justified. During the last 12 months there has been calls for us to sell, cash in on or move on -

Mignolet
Moreno
Toure
Skrtel
Lovren
Allen
Coutinho
Sturridge
Lallana
Benteke
Enrique
milner
ballotelli
lazar

Also there have been calls for players to be promoted into the 1st team -

Ward
Illori
Smith
McLaughlin
Wisdom
Rossiter
Chirevela
Kent
Sinclair
ojo
tex

Not criticizing the posters or the players just discussing that it seems we all are guilty of wanting these young stars put in together without much thought for how best to introduce them or even if the players in the team deserve to be moved to one side for them.

Am I wrong on this, Have I miss-understood the calls?

cheers all.

Believable6 Unbelievable7

17 Dec 2015 10:16:33
It is perfectly fair to call for a player to be dropped as it is an opinion, as long as you can back it up with a fair argument, it's what makes this website great. I just don't like it when certain people trash talk after someone has a bad 15 minutes, which is what I think you are talking about.

17 Dec 2015 10:48:19
I think the point from most posters is replace with youth if they are ready. A few of the names you can't argue with being sold on any grounds, balotelli and Enrique for example and a few their time is just up after proving they cannot cut it. But why buy a left back to compete with Moreno without trying smith. Even lallana could have been replaced with tex as we have a few in his role anyway it just made his task harder. These players are obviously well thought of, but in cases of Sinclair, if you buy 6 strikers in 2 years, then they will become unsure of their progression Into the first team. I don't think anyone is calling for a team of 20 year olds but if we trimmed the squad down and an injury occurs then rather than having a 20 million pound sub, we can promote a youth player and Hope they raise their game in the first team, like Flanagan did. This is happening now more under klopp, smith, Randall, mclaughin rossiter chirivella tex have all had game time, a few impressing more than others. But in the case of tex, it's hard to leave a lallana or a firmino out of the squad to give Tex a chance.

17 Dec 2015 11:06:06
You've misunderstood to some extent.

Mingolet, Toure, Skrtel, Allen, Enrique and Balotelli are all average at best.

Milner, Lallana, Markovic and Benteke have all failed to hit the heights their wages/price tags demand.

Sturridge is always injured.

Moreno and Coutinho are inconsistent but I don't think anyone wants them to be sold. More a case of it wouldn't be the end of the world when we have Firmino, Teixeira, Gomez, Branagan, Flanagan, Smith etc. I want them to stay personally though. The other players you listed though I don't understand your gripe. Their is a legitimate reason for people to want them sold except maybe Benteke and Milner who've only been here 4 months.

Regarding the kids you've completely misunderstood. People want them to start getting chances. Not to be thrown in 8 players at a time or to be regulars in league games.

For me the only players in our squad we should fight to keep are Sakho, Can, Lucas, Hendo, Ibe and Coutinho. Firmino, Ings, Gomez and Origi will be good for us going forward in my opinion although they're yet to prove it. I wouldn't look to sell Bogdan, Clyne, Lovren, Moreno or Sturridge but if we got a good offer for them I'd say it's worth considering.

We have a good squad but those are the only players I would be genuinely sad to see go. They're the players we can build our team around under Klopp.

17 Dec 2015 11:18:45
I have said time and again that continuity was the main reason for our success in the 70's and 80's. You are right to say you can't discard x amount of first team squad players every season and replace them with the under 21 lads, unless of course they have proven at Melwood or on loan that they have what it takes to make the step up. But you can see that Klopp will now give opportunities to the Academy lads. He could have played Players out of position in the cup games to give Clyne and Moreno a rest, like the previous Manager, but he chose to give Smith and Randall experience. It's all about opinion. If for example Joe Allen, Enrique, are moved on in January I would give Smith and Brannigan an Opportunity to start cup games, rather than go out and buy someone, unless of course somebody comes in who is better than both and will improve the 1st eleven.

17 Dec 2015 11:26:47
There is nothing wrong with having an opinion about players. Yes, I will admit that it´s easy to get carried away and we want the youth players to progress (probably because we saw how good Sterling became) .

Some of the first team players have had bad patches, but some of them doesn´t have what it takes. Others have improved immensely under JK. So why would you want a Balotelli or a Milner if they aren´t improving us? I would rather have a striker that can be arsed, whether it be a youthplayer or a less experienced player than Balo.

The only 'youth' player I really think is ready for 1st team is Texeira. I can´t say for sure how he is at training, but the few cameos and that backheel against Bournemouth just shows that he has so much more to him than Milner (and possibly Lallana) - Yes I know I´m getting carried away again, but the lad has more or less only shown positives, why then not play him?

17 Dec 2015 12:13:18
Fair enough I miss understood. I didn't mean to accuse people btw as i'm one who would see a few move on myself, Migs, Skrtel, Toure, Enrique, Allen, Balo, Milner, Lallana, Benteke eing the group i'd let go with - Ward, Illori, wisdom, smith, rossiter, Sinclair, tex and a new winger (el ghazi) taking the squad places. With my starting 11 i'd love to see - bogdan, clyne, lovren, sakho, Moreno, lucas, hendo, couinho, firmino, el ghazi, sturridge. That still leaves us ward, flanno, wisdom, illori, smith, rossiter, tex, ibe, lazar, origi, ings as an alternative 11 and still have Lloyd jones, McLaughlin, allan (Brazilian), kent, Sinclair, chirevela, to bring in which sounds strong to me with plenty of youth getting involved in the 1st team, cheers.

17 Dec 2015 12:17:59
If one person states 'I think we should sell xxxxx player', that doesn't mean the entire forum feels the same. You can't take posts from numerous people, lump them together and suggest this represents the view of the forum as a whole. For every player in your list I could find numerous posts stating we absolutely shouldn't sell them.

Texiera is a good player, but though he plays well in the under 21's he floats in and out of games. Personally I don't think is work ethic is up to the requirement of our Manager. If you could make an Allen, Texiera Hybrid would be a great player.

Gomez I think has looked a steal. He is the type of player we should be looking to build a team around for years to come. And a decent offer for Sturridge would be a mistake to be accepted in my view. I know he is injured, a lot, but he is truly world class. Up there with the top in Europe. I honestly think his injuries will be sorted as it is always a different injury. If it was constantly his knee or back etc, then yes, I'd agree, sell him. But I do think he will come good.

I agree with Adam here. Some of the players are bang average and wouldn't walk into any top 4 sides. Klopp should show the door to quite a lot in the summer.

I agree with Clarke, the issue with your list is people have diverse opinions so taking a sample of a million and you'll eventually get a list including the entire squad. doesn't mean everyone wants every player sold.

On the other hand we do tend to see players get a bit more stick than they deserve on here though. Regardless if they are perceived as good enough or not, they are still mostly playing their heart out for the club. I too have a preference for someone to replace Migs, but I object to people calling him some pretty offensive names.

Generally we have bought and sold way too much as a club, we need stability for a few years and just a few tweaks here and there.

Any edd's. any chance of a player profile on rob jones please. Ed001!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - ok mate, I will add that to my to do list.}

Rob Jones and Steve Nicol are my 2 favourite players to ever wear a Liverpool shirt.
I loved Nicol so much when I was a boy, I used to show the hairdresser a picture of him to copy his hairstyle. got to love the 80's.

17 Dec 2015 07:43:11
Rob Jones is my fave Pool right back ever. Would have been a Pool legend if he hadn't had those injury problems.

Cultured and complete full back.

Ed1, was it shin splints or spinal issues that did it for him?

{Ed001's Note - shin splints caused the back problem which in turn made the shin splints worse. Having suffered badly with shin splints myself and dated a female footballer who had been forced to retire because of them as well I can sympathise with him. They are horrible and affect your gait badly which causes back pain.}

Nicol was unbelievable. He could play any area of the back 4 or midfield. I personally think that he was best at full back on either side. Every players book I have read who played with him talk about how funny he was off the pitch and could drink anybody under the table. Yet put him on the pitch he would never stop running. Watch the 86 cup final. He's up and down that line all game. Rob Jones I think was a complete bargain. My memories of him are a very tough to beat defender who could also run all game. The fans used to love his wayward shots. Sadly I also think that signing McAteer didn't help him. He was moved to left back and that coupled with injuries meant he didn't fulfil the huge potential he obviously had.

{Ed001's Note - I met him as a kid and have never seen anyone down pints as quickly as him. Even the Carlsberg rep with him was flabbergasted.}

I was at a Ronnie Whelan testimonial event as a kid and Nicol was there he was great. He had a race with a fella to see who could down a pint and he easily won. Whelan was drinking a pint of wine! Both very nice fellas who hung around all afternoon getting pictures taken and they were happy to speak to everyone. To top the day off I won the signed Ronnie Whelan shirt, great day and a time when there was a closer link between the players and fans.

Tristan

You actually requested a Stevie Nicol flat-top?

How old were you at this point? .

17 Dec 2015 11:07:26
Would me saying I was only 8 or 9 make me sound any better?

17 Dec 2015 11:57:07
Nicol was a nutter, didn't Souness have him pushing his Automatic once for half a mile to try and get it to start? Rob Jones was called Trigger because he was gullible as a kid. Loved both players.

17 Dec 2015 12:41:22
Cheers mate much appreciated.

17 Dec 2015 21:05:26
I thought Macateer was trigger?

{Ed033's Note - i think Jason McAteer's nickname before he went to Liverpool FC was 'Trigger', however at Liverpool they gave the least brightest person in the team the nickname 'Trigger' and the person who had that name when McAteer arrived was Rob Jones. After a short while at Anfield, the players found out what Jason was like and decided to give him the nickname of 'Double Trigger'

Things seem to be moving along quick with regards to Grujic, I realise some reports saying its a done deal are probably premature but it sounds as though it's Between us and Stuttgart ed? Would that be a fair assumption, and do YOU think a deal can/will be reached?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Don't discount Inter Milan. Interest from a couple of other sides may result in further offers. Also, don't discount him staying until the summer of 2017. A deal is certainly possible but it won't be for a January move.}

17 Dec 2015 01:31:50
From various credible people the deal is done. He will stay with them until the Summer. €5 million fee.

{Ed002's Note - There is no "done deal".}

17 Dec 2015 13:38:27
Why do people bother coming here with their 'credible sources' to tell the eds they are wrong?
