Hi Eds,
I was reading that BR may be keen on Sturridge for an initial loan period before a prospective buy.

Is it smart business to loan players in? Does it unsettle the team by having players 'hanging' like that or is it a good strategy to have them train/play with the squad first?

Thanks,
Lee. {Ed001's Note - it depends, just like any transfer it is dependent on the player and his success.}

Anyone seen Henderson on the keepy up challenge - the lad got over 60 on all 3 goes with his best being 77. Awesome effort, keep up the hard work Hendo!

Anyone given this a go? Not going to lie and make out I can do hundreds but I'm sure some of you will! The best I got was 37! Yes I know, keep practising!

JT.

I can do about 4 with a tennis ball

I can do two with only one bounce
Scouse_Pride

I can do 100 every time , i am 62 does that make me good enough for lfc , no no no

Anybody get the impression Torres regrets leaving. You dont appreciate what you got till its gone and all that. Even considering his chelsea medals.

Andy the Red

What gives you the impression he regrets leaving ?
Probably every time he is warming up for a champions league game he just ponders why he left Liverpool ..
He moved so should you Andy.

Roy

When you leave the mighty reds its always a downward thing

The Serbian Players and fans are an absolute disgrace!!

But what will probably happen is they get a fine and a slap on the wrist!

Racism is totally unacceptable in ALL circumstances!

I'm totally disgusted at what I saw, but not even surprised to be honest!

K.Bennett

Kick them out of the competition, as then and only then, will the Serbian authorities do anything about the mess they are in. Shame as it's probably a few spoiling it for the many!

Keith

The Crowd looked like a Neo-Nazi Rally

Lyndon

I agree with Keith .. they should be kicked out .. simple ..Its not the first time they done this.

Roy

Think I saw Suarez in the crowd :)

Paul Ince said they should get a ten year ban and I never thought that I would say this, Incey's right.

Torres

Sterling... Wtf! He will be great... But come on

So 3 cb's and a rb, 3 cm's and a left winger and 2 strikers.. success!

BthekingB

I would put Garcia ahead of Suarez and Hamann in front of Mascherano and play Maxi instead Sterling.
Scouse_Pride

Sterling?? No Fowler?

Just wondering what striker is the preferred choice between fans come jan. here's a few possibles and why...

K. Jan Huntelaar. 6 months left on deal, looking for a move.

F. Llorente. Same as Huntelaar 6 months left on deal by January.

C. Tello. Unsure if he signed a new deal so could also only have 6 months left on deal.

D. Bent. Looks like he will be moving but I think price would be too high.

T. Walcott. Another player who will have 6 months left on his deal come January.

L. Barrios. In dispute with his club in china could be an option.

D. Sturridge. Wants a move away from Chelsea due to lack of playing time, fee could be an issue.

M. Lopez. Possible outsider that could be attained for a decent fee.

M. Zarate. Unsure if was loaned out, but could be available for a nominal fee.

G. Hooper. For me not the answer. I really hope we don't sign him. If we were gonna sign a striker from Scotland it should have been Jelavic when we had the chance.

D. Drogba. Can't see this one coming off at all. Wages would be far too high.

N. Anelka. If you asked me a year ago I would have said yes, but now sign as Drogba.

S. Fletcher. Can never see this one happening. Decent player but not for us.

From the above my four main codices would be.

1. K.Jan Huntelaar.
2. L. Barrios.
3. F. Llorente.
4. M. Zarate.

Jonesred

1. Huntelaar
2. Llorente
3. Barrios

i hear that we are interested in Gary Hooper of Celtic, i feel that he could be a good addition to the team, has scored goals although not at this level and still only 24. he has also played at lower level and may just have the hunger to make it.ray 3037

You're right, a lower level player will fit right in.

AJH

Aldridge,rush,keegan, all came from lower leagues,didnt turn out too bad for them though.We all start somewhere mate.

Ed why don't they just close the roof right now at the game in Poland. Then it will stop raining immediately and the game can continue. In the WC the pitch drained in 5 minute once the rain stopped.
Andrew {Ed001's Note - no idea, nor do I care about England sorry.}

Too windy apparently
Robbie

CLASSY Ed1 NOT!!

Mug {Ed063's Note - Why? Why does he have to care about some boring as international football? Why should he have some false sense of patriotism when the players themselves don't even care if they play for England or not. Your sign off name is very apt - mug}

hey eds i know this is a bit random but there is a young lad who is not a famous name and no one ever seems to mention but in my opinion is just as good as a lot of well known players and better than some with the potential to grow even better as hes only about 20yrs his name is valon berisha was just wondering if you have ever heard of him? what your opinion is of him?and even tho i think hes only just transferred this summer have liverpool or any other english club showed an interest in him? cheers CRAIG {Ed001's Note - I have heard of him, but that's all sorry.}

He can well turn out a gem. He has been impressing in Norway for some time now. Had a good sub-in against Cyprus today. Doubt he will come to LFC though.

Whilst the rebuilding/extension of Anfield is carried out, and bearing in mind it could never be completed during the close season I wonder what parts of the ground will have to be closed.What will the reduction in ground capacity be?
Safety regulations would never allow a full capacity whilst building work is carried out.
These are not moans just thoughts about the practicalities.

Derek {Ed001's Note - question doesn't make any sense. It won't be done all at once.}

16 Oct 2012 17:34:00
What is the agreement with yesil

Do Leverkusen have a buy back clause or is it a first look option only if we decide to sell?

Shushyboy {Ed001's Note - buy back clause.}

Eds what do you mean by buy back clause, can they buy him back when they want or what ?

Thanks {Ed001's Note - they have a fee agreed to buy him back when they want, yes. But it would involved him agreeing to return.}

Well then are the reports true ed001 that they can buy him back anytime they want? Or do we get to decide we want to sell him or not?

Sj {Ed001's Note - they can pay the fee agreed at any time, but he has to want to return.}

No need to panic. Why would he want to go back to Leverkusen if he turns out to be world class?

BthekingB

Is it just for his current contract. So say in three years time he signs a new contact would the buy back clause still be there ? {Ed001's Note - nothing to do with his contract, it is the contract between us and them.}

BthekingB

I would start panicking. Why would he want to stay at Liverpool if he turns out to be world class?

16 Oct 2012 17:19:59
Liverpool in my eyes have played some great stuff so far this season, And im sure that this young team will only get better i would really love us to move up the table untill the jan transfer window and then get the striker were all crying out for someone of a proving goal scoring record. If we do get a striker in jan that knows were the back of the net is i think we wont be to far away.

gee man

Agreed...5th at a push...

16 Oct 2012 16:40:47
Ed do you happen to know if its possible within the ground extension planned, if LFC can fill in 'the corners' of Anfield to increase the capacity. Ala Main stand to Kop etc. To not only as said increase capacity but also purely make more symetrical all sides? {Ed002's Note - You will have to wait until next year to see the plans.}

This would affect the pitch, quite considerably. As not enough Sunshine etc.. would get to the playing surface. That is why we have never done this before.

16 Oct 2012 18:52:41
Interesting point on the sunshine, can anyone back up that point of view, I mean it's not like we don't have loads of points we could put in some sort of artificial light to simulate sunshine.

Emirates, Wembley and etihad, all pitches without room for sunlight in the corners. Don't see it as a problem! {Ed001's Note - it's not sunlight that is the issue, it is airflow.}

Wot sunlight its non exsistent in the north west of england

16 Oct 2012 16:46:53
Okay, football question -

What's more important

Systems 4-3-3 etc or Quality in your players?

What I'm saying is, if you have Quality in a player, will they make the system work regardless?

16 Oct 2012 17:15:37
You buy Quality Players that fit the system -McMenemy

Both are important, but for me, quality has more impact on a team.

Nonsense

Certain players do not fit certain systems

For example AC does not suit Rodgers system

While Messi would probably suit any system

ITs seems obvious to me anyway that while gerrard can play any system Rodgers system does not get the best out of stevie

So get rid of BR {Ed001's Note - Messi doesn't suit Argentina's system, I would prefer to get rid of you than Rodgers, at least he knows something about footie.}

Silly Question

How long is a piece of string? It depends. I would think real madrid for example could play most formations and be effective with the quality they have, but a team without quality would struggle with any formation. That said you may find a formation that plays to all their strengths which they would be more successful with .jdog.

You need the players to be able to play the system.More so.. Good players should be adaptable to play most systems.

Phooey...

Any player who can perform at the top level has quality.. It's finding the right blend of quality players that FIT into our play. So both.

Isn't this the irrestable force vs the immovable object... I would say Roy Evans team (great to watch but fallible) vs Houliers team (horrible at times to watch but organised)... I would have a blend

I am only 15 but I play at a high level. I think the 4231 is the best way to play. It allows the front four to rotate and effectively do what they want when in possession. However the two holders have to be very good at dictating the game and controlling possesion. Your full backs also need to offer a lot of width and push very high up the pitch {Ed063's Note - I've played to a high level also and I think that 4-5-1 is the best. It lets you be organised defensively but can break and slide into a 4-4-2 when you have the ball.}

Isn't this the irrestable force vs the immovable object... I would say Roy Evans team (great to watch but fallible) vs Houliers team (horrible at times to watch but organised)... I would have a blend

-For me benitez's was the closest to a perfect a blend and the most succesful for years.

Lil Red

It's not that messi doesn't suit Argentina's system. It's just that he suits barcas play better because that's how he's been training to play for the last 10 years or more. It's a bit harsh to say he doesn't fit the system when he's scored 11 goals in his last 7 games. Over the past 2 years Argentina seem to be trying to play more to messi's strengths.
Djay {Ed001's Note - not harsh at all, he didn't suit Argentina's system, so they changed to more of a Barca system. If he suited Argentina's system, why change it? So it is that he didn't suit it, obviously. I think you need to reread what you said, because it made no sense.}

16 Oct 2012 18:57:34
Good Managers adapt their systems to highlight the strengths of their players, especially early in their tenures. Then they subtely recruit or train what they have to fit the structure they want to play, that may (and in my opinion should) change organically to dominate the other styles that are out there. Great managers have systems that, with subtle changes, can adapt to be better than 4/5 styles out there.

In the round it's about promoting strengths, protecting weaknesses, and adaptability in the face of challenge.

Interestingly I've never seen any manager be able to hit the ground running on the above, it has always taken time to allow change to occur.

Thanks for the thoughts shared on this... I'll post another football question tomorrow...

Ed2 can u tell me who will be funding the 150m plus redevelopment? Will it be borrowed from banks? Cheerz {Ed002's Note - At this time I do not know. I would anticipate some might come from sponsorship and the balance borrowed against future additional earnings.}

As usual it will probally be the fans by the club putting tickets up yet again

He wouldn't score many for LFC if he played against Villa the weekend. Reading would be a better bet.

Re-development of Anfield, including the urban regeneration of North Liverpool is fantastic news. I appreciate a certain amount on non-local reds may not fully appreciate the lack of investment and the level of degeneration that has occured geographically over many areas of North Liverpool, nonetheless, investment in the area is long over due. This is a fantastic opportunity for business investment in the area and a positive long term future. The regeneration of Liverpool city centre and South Liverpool has been excellent and has taken many many years. This is the beginning and staying at Anfield Stadium in my opinion makes sense. The regeneration of our first team is underway and we all can see we need two strikers to come in in January not just one. The underpinning work of the academy and youth system is producing talent. This will support BR's work with the first team. Patience with the academy has shown that it is now functioning as it should, having a similar level of patience with the first team is somewhat painful as we wait for the current pattern of our play to eventually lead to results is somewhat frustrating. I believe the future of the club, as the infrastructure is built upon, supported by loyal fans and the ongoing development of North Liverpool as a whole, is pretty good. Separately and importantly the progress recently in the campaign for Justice for the 96 is gathering momentum, as it should, will continue to get unwavering support from red fans. The combination of all the progress in all these different areas ultimately demonstrates how far we have developed since the cowboys nearly imploded our instituition. The task to rebuild from their tenurship was no means a quick fix, however we moving in a positive direction. Lets keep the faith and show the fighting spirit as loyal supporters and back our team to the hilt, because we are LFC and the critics and detractors love to have a go at us, I say bring it on!

Id give Yesil a run out this weekend see how he copes with a premier league game, Villa are terrible at the moment so it would be a good game to kick him off with.

Villa? its reading!

Is that Reading Villa or did you really mean Villa?
Robbie

Were at home to Reading m8.

We r playing Reading this weekend, and even they r terrible at the moment. Suarez n Yesil can make a good strike force imo, if given the time.
Indian Buzzer

We don't play villa

Maybe have him on the bench. We are playing Reading not villa this weekend lol murton red

Arent we playing Reading?

Villa are terrible at the moment and are 1 point behind us!! We play Aston Villa on December 15th, I think Adam Morgan should get a run in the team in Europa League as well as Yesil, if they prove good enough in Europa League then they should get a chance in the Premier League. The team is crying out for an out an out striker and i think these lads will get a fair chance like everyone else in fairness, they're only young aswell remember. I keep saying it but January we need someone like Llorente, he's available in January and should be one of our priorities.

My wishlist in January:
Fernando Llorente
Arda Turan
Daniel Sturridge/Loic Remy

Rocky

Lol let me just reel in my bait

Might get sturridge but non of the others

Options-New Stadia-take years, skint for years maybe forever.Fortunes change and it becomes a half empty white elephant.Share with Blue s ite.-loses identity. Because of our success abroad were world famous-suddenly it would be like brand sharing. What would seats be-flippable in colour? Cant bebuild at current site. Leaves us with option thats been chosen. Now were miles behind, off the pitch, and pretty far behind on.And people start moaning about naming rights. FFS it'll still be known as Anfield! Can always put a fookin Pepsi/whatever sign above it.Our superb history hinders us with some people. We'll be left behind.NO we have been left behind. Look at the options-for Gods sake,we should NEVER forget our past. But we have NO CHANCE of catching up without this move. Some of you want jam on it.Do you really want success? GET REAL! LOOK at the alternatives above. Small price for a Stadia still be known as Anfield! Truely think some of our fans just have a hobby of whinging. We can KEEP our iconic stadia and atmosphere and loads of our tradition this way. We want both success and our tradition. WAKE UP MORON'S AND SHUT UP.THIS IS THE BEST WAY FOR BOTH!

We have one shot at this,to get it right,and the question should be is 60,000 seats enough?today maybe,but what about tomorrow?
UTD have plans to push upto 95,000
city can go to 70,000 + the arabs cash
chelsea looking at moven to a 80,000 + the rushkies cash
gooners already have a 70,000 + ground
spurs want a move too,therse are the team who are finishing above us now,before we look at the likes of the tooooon and there fantastic of a monster ground.
i love Anfield with all my heart,but sometimes in life you must move on,and not just go for the cheaper option which this is. {Ed001's Note - Arsenal's ground seats 60k.}

Why have we only one shot? Can we not cross that bridge? The bubble has burst with footy gates.The point you make is flawed, those teams you mention have rich backers to sustain huge expansion AND a decent side ON the pitch. At this moment in time we aint got bottomless pitt owners! Who is to say in years to come we cannot purchase more surrounding properties and expand Centenuary or KOP. This is how it is now! How many of the plans you've mentioned will ACTUALLY materialise at other clubs? And how many of them will FILL those Stadias. Likes of Spurs aint got the cash of others you mentioned, and could therefore go down the pan ON THE FIELD for the sake of a new Stadia. Because Spurs situ is by no means certain

So were muted at maybe 65. By your reckoning 5k behind City and Arsenal.Can live with that. City don't always fill ground even last season! Spurs situ unresolved. Chavski wont fill a 80,000. So that leaves Manc u {Ed002's Note - Chelsea have no intention of 80k and Liverpool are costrained to 60k as has been explained plenty of times.}

ED1 can arsenal ground be expanded in future,as anfield will be 60,000 max. {Ed002's Note - Not easily.}

UTD may well go over the 90k mark but at a recent cup game (this season) they had 30k empty seats, so not sure if the demand is there, Chelsea will NEVER sell 80k tickets, Arsenal are on 60k not 70k, City will never shift 70k, our goal should be approx 65k, i think this is a realistic target for us. {Ed002's Note - It is not - Liverpool is constrained to 60k.}

Could make it like the Nou Camp and go underground :)

Or like Evertons and make it out of Wood.

60000 is enough, not every single game is a sell out ( most but not all).

Apparantly if we build above 60000 then we have too contribute towards the transport infrastructure, although I don't know how true this is.

16 Oct 2012 17:50:50
lfc are not constrained to 60. No decision has been made on final total. Yes its expected to be 60 but LFC say could be just above that

IF WE SIT AT 60.000 SEATS we all need to used to paying london prices in the very near future,as the wage bill wont stop growing

16 Oct 2012 17:53:58
Thats point i made in previous post. Its ok ratteling on bout 80-90,000 stadias. Filling them is the key. And i'ld said before same as lad here-Utd were 30k down in Leauge cup game! Be white elephant stadias up and down land. Not everyone can be successful

Assuming that Liverpool is looking for "value" players, ie. inexpensive and young, and lack a striker, the following is a list of players I compiled by going on transfermrkt.uk. All players are 21 or younger, and are listed for under 5MM pounds (although the values are probably way low. Assume probably they would cost double the quoted value at least or potentially more. But a good guess is they are all under 10MM pounds). They have decent strike rates in the leagues they play in, yes they are not top flight leagues in some cases but again you are looking for value and some guy lighting up England or spain as a youngster is going to have an inflated value.

Anyway here is the list. Anyone have any thoughts on any of these players?

18 Year Olds
Lazar Markovic FK Partizan Belgrade £4,400,000
Michy Batshuayi Standard Liege £1,300,000
Arkadiusz Milik Gornik Zabrze £1,300,000

Erick Torres Deportivo Guadalajara £1,800,000
Luis Alberto FC Barcelona B £1,300,000
Jean-Christophe Bahebeck ES Troyes AC £1,300,000
Tallo AS Roma Primavera £1,100,000
Moussa Konate FK Krasnodar £1,100,000

20 Year Olds
Pierre-Michel Lasogga Hertha BSC £4,400,000

21 Year Olds
Ante Vukusic Delfino Pescara 1936 £4,400,000

David Texeira FC Groningen £2,200,000
Anthony Ujah 1 FC Cologne £1,500,000
Rogelio Funes Mori Club Atletico River Plate £1,900,000
Jan Chramosta FK Mlada Boleslav £1,300,000
Alan Pulido Tigres UANL £1,300,000
Nicklas Helenius Aalborg BK £1,100,000

Did you just pluck these prices out if the air?

Someone's been playing football manager :p

Red Raw

Some one has been playing championship manager or FIFA

Actually I don't play FIFA manager and I didn't pluck them out of the air. I probably should not have put the values, which were from www.transfermrkt.co.uk, because they are beside the point and more than likely way off. The point is these are all youngish strikers who could probably be bought for anywhere between 2 & 10MM pounds. Just trying to put some names out there other than the standard "oh we should buy Leandro Damaio" talk. We aren't going to get any of those players so we better look somewhere else. Heung-Min Son is the only one I have seen that has actually been linked with us.

How do you know any of these players would be any better than Morgan, Pacheco, Yesil, Ngoo, Ajuren (the Hungarian lad)? Yes they may be cheap some of the prices quoted are way off Zaha of instance palace turned down 6/7million for him in the summer. I agree we are short of fire power but I'm not sure the answer lies within this this of players, I would like to some join however.

We have a lot of potential with guys like Yesil etc. My only point was that everyone wants us to sign a striker or multiple strikers in January or next summer. A lot of these players are already playing first team football and have pretty good strike rates while doing it in leagues outside England. Perhaps they might add a little bit more proven ability compared to a Pacheco or Ngoo at this point.

I agree it was a mistake to print the values, Zaha is an obvious one. The only reason i did it was to exclude the obviously high cost players (Llorente, Damaio etc etc.) from a search. max anyone on the list might cost is 10MM in my opinion but you never know.

Main point is Liverpool are going to have to rely heavily on doing good scouting work on the non 15-30 MM pound guys out there. I think Yesil is very much in the mold of signings to expect, or someone similar to Assaidi. No one saw that one coming. FSG will spend what it can but they will have to scout their way to Champions League and then when revenue is higher they can go after some of the more high cost guys around. Right now it is pointless to even talk of big names (Lewandowski, Damaio) because we can't afford them, and or they want Champions League play.

Harry Deputy Dog chops Redknapp says "Bale in same class as
Messi & Ronaldo"

My God he must be bored or smoking
Some strange stuff

Lyndon

We wouldnt say no to him joining the reds (Bale)!!!

What about when our own Stevei G told he rates Joe Cole as much as Messi...

Bosco

I agree, yes we would have him at Liverpool but Messi and Ronaldo are Maradona and Pele class -

Bale is the same class as Gerrard which in my opinion is one down from those 4 I've mentioned.

To whoever said that they rate gerrard below that four your out of your mind, when gerrard was on song (which was consistent for about 10 years) gerrard has been the best ALL ROUND player on the planet, messi and ronaldo are world class players but neither of them can do what gerrard has done... Lift a team and win games by himself, at times he has dragged mediochre liverpool teams across finishing lines the team would never of got near without him. so to me gerrard has to be in not just the top five players in the last decade, but ever...Never has one man become a football club like gerrard has..and for that i will always rank him as liverpools greatest player and servant.

I think I can understand why BR wanted Sturridge on loan. Its risky buying that sought of player outright. But what he does have to offer is Barclay's Premier League experience. He proved at Bolton that he knows where the goal is when he is used as a #9. We only have one naturally left footed forward (Suso), so he could be an option on the right wing, cutting in on his favored left foot. He may not tick all the boxes but I would take him over a more extragavant & expensive option from another league because our situation requires a proven BPL goal scorer because we need goals & we need them now. We don't have time for players who need time to adjust. Slodge

NOT AGAIN! We need a quality striker, not a premier league proven one. Carroll, downing and adam were all proven performers in the epl, look how that worked out. Sturridge is a selfish, self obsessed clown, n we do not need such players at our club. Id rather go for Hooper.
Indian Buzzer

Because proven has worked out so well for us before...

Sadly I'm afraid i have to agree with Boniek re. Carroll. How on earth 35m was sanstioned on him! We really have to find a balance with our Transfer dealings

Let's be clear why we spent £35m on Caroll, who we all agree is not worth even half of that. It was the last day of the transfer window & we got £50m for Torres. New owners & needed to replace a previously prolific scorer for us. Had we not got £50m & sold Torres it would never have happened and Newcastle took advantage of our predicament. However we should never have loaned him out without a replacement especially since he was showing good form towards the end of last season. I genuinely believe that he is a good player who will move on to another club and be a big success and it is a shame that he does not fit into BR's plans.

Why have you seen his Grandson play?

SteLFC

Poster saying'lets be clear'-yes we all know why we paid the Carroll fee and its connection to Torres fee we recieved. Fact remains we should'nt have! Whatever the circumstances. Could've kept cash and bought 3 class players at end've window. And our Leauge position was'nt as perilous as it is now. Lad obviously could'nt trap a bag of cement

16 Oct 2012 18:39:27
A great deal has been written about KD/DC/IA's transfer performance, and I agree with most of it (I still hold out hope that Henderson could be a sucess, and that Downing might find enough form that we cut our losses).

But the day they got £50M for the miserable, unmotivated and whining player that Torres had become was genius, wish we hadn't have blown 70% back on Carroll but at the time it seemed a reasonable gamble.

16 Oct 2012 11:08:52
We should stop with the quaresma rumours, in addition to not being good enough he is a classless buffoon with no manners and even less intelligence who is not fit to even buy a Liverpool shirt. I've crossed paths with him a couple of times in Italy and speak from personal experience. He has no respect of England or our club.

Nevada

Care to further elaborate?

What'sup Nevada mate? I agree with you that he is not good enough, or rather, while he MAY have been good enough, but he was never bothered to utilise his talent.

The real AG

Shame about that Nevada because he speaks very highly of you.

I've met him a couple of times when working in Italy and he's made some rather negative remarks regarding heysel. Did not find him to be very pleasant, I won't say anymore than that.

Nevada

Have any of you seen quaresma play how can you say he's not good enough that's asinine.

Looks like Hooper is new flavour here. Fans don't learn from their mistakes. We just bought Borini to solve our goal problems which didn't happen. Hooper is going to improve our squad like Borini but won't solve our problems. We need world class if not then atleast class striker to solve our problems. If not then no need to waste our money on another pontential/average player as we have got lots of them in our squad. Better to give our young strikers chance instead of buying Hooper. We need something special to drive us foward and Hooper is not our answer

Borini was an unknown quantity and although people like me said he wouldn't cut it there were others that said he would - I think Hooper would be a much more calculated and considered target rather than just a player that the boss has managed before.

16 Oct 2012 16:39:30
Mate playing for liverpool is different story. I will still say that instead of wasting our money on another pontential player its better we give our youngsters chances as we have got lots of pontential players already in our squad and save our money to buy class players who will take us to next level rather then spend on Hooper then regret it. We need something special to drive us foward Hooper is not our answer. There are very few strikers who can score 25+ goals which we are in big need its better to save our money to buy one of them what do you think ed1

I agree a 25+ a season striker is what we and every other team needs. But
are we in a position at the moment to attract such a player? Let alone pay the transfer fee and wages that this player would command?
Back to Hooper, ed001 do you rate him better than Yesil?

Cheers
Phooey {Ed001's Note - not even close. Yesil has far far far more potential. Hooper is simply not a top class striker, he doesn't put in the work needed.}

Cheers Ed :o)

Did a poster on here just say that our present team is as good as 2008/09's? That Suarez is just as good as Nando was? LOL!
Hilarious.

Inasmuch as I'd love that to be the case, it just isn't. Maybe in 2, 3 years time, yes, but not currently. That 0/8-09 side was the finest I'd seen in years.
Most of the players were at the very peak of their careers and playing their best football ever (Pepe, Carra, Masch, Xabi, Stevie, Nando, Deadly Dirk).

The structure and system was clearly set out, and each player understood what was expected of him. Yes, we weren't the most elegant of teams, but we mightily effective.
We had power, energy and great technique.
Defensively we were impressively sound and just as sharp going forward.
Number of goals we scored and the way we took them, insanely amazing.

We had genuine, I mean, genuine, class then. Pepe was in the top 3 best keepers in the world, Gerrard-Alonso-Mascherano was by and large the no. 1 midfield combo the world over, and there was no more finer striker in the world than an in-form Torres.

The lad was plainly unreal. The runs he made, the way he combined power, his lightening speed, dexterous feet and immaculate finishing, was just orgasmic.
He could head and whack them in with either foot.
He was also quite easily the most composed striker I'd seen for years.

As much as I admire Luis, his skill, passion and fight, I'd have the Torres of old over him, 24/7.
They are fundamentally very different players. Luis is more of an AM, while Nando was your conventional no. 9.
It would have been interesting to have seen them in the same team.
Still though, Nando o/o for me.

Saying that though, this current crop is infinitely bless with remarkable natural talent, and, potential, could better 08/09's by a large margin.
The Bucklings Suso, Sterling, Shelvey, Coates, Yesil and Jerome Sinclair have it in themselves to become top, top class footballers and reach the level of Alonso, Masch, Stevie and Nando.

Andre Wisdom, Martin Kelly, Jack Robinson, Ryan MacLaughlin (sp), Fabio Borini, Jordan Henderson, Jordan Ibe, Adam Morgan etc may not necessarily be top class, but will be very good, important members of the squad.

Then there's Agger, Lucas and Luis, international standard players.
So potentially, yes, our current crop could be far better than 08/09.
The pool of young players coming through is the best we have had in years, and some of these lads are some of the most talented in their age groups.
Some will go on to form the core and nucleus of the side (Suso, Jonjo, Sterling, Yesil, Coates, Sinclair) and the others will be very useful support (Kelly, Wisdom, Robinson, Henderson, MacLaughlin, Ibe, Borini, Morgan etc).

But things could, of course, turn out differently. The most promising kids right now could fade away, and the least heralded be the ones to actually make it.
It's likely also that we'll bring in many more other exceptional young talents.

Talking about bringing in young talents, Ed001 and 02, I'd like to hear your views on how Brendan's giving of chances to the likes of Sterling, Suso, Wisdom, Shelvey, Jerome is impacting on our recruitment of young talents both in the UK and Europe.
To what extent may it substantially enhance our chances of having the kids pick us?

Also if you may, what's the general situation with the lad Max Clayton? Have LFC looked at him?
Thanks in advance.

WILLIE {Ed001's Note - it makes a huge difference to the parents of kids looking to place them in an academy. They want their lad to stand a chance of progressing, seeing a team give chances to youngsters is a big plus. Clayton is currently having his progress monitored by a number of clubs, I was told that Crewe have double figures of scouts watching every match the play, most of them watching him.}

Well written, well considered and pretty close to my view on the world - if only Rafa hadn't upset Xabi by chasing Barry so hard - what could have been?

16 Oct 2012 13:52:17
Mate you can't compare. Different managers with different styles. Benitez built our team form of counter attacking. Liverpool were one of the best team I have ever seen as counter attacking we were very quick and knew how to find results where Rodgers play pass and move at the same time 80% of our pass are back or side ways I'm sure that team wouldn't suit Rodgers style at the same time we play rigid 4-3-3 even the likes of Barcelona or spain don't play rigid 4-3-3 any team playing against us knows we will play 4-3-3 we need to be clever rather then predictable

We had a great team then with some real quality players in their prime. But we didnt win the league that year and need to stop wishing we did. Look.forward and hopefully sooner rather than later we will have another group ready to challenge on all fronts, it cant be that far off... Ynwa jdog

Poland legend Zbigniew Boniek stated that his eight-year-old grandson is better than England's 23-year-old striker Andy Carroll......Liverpool are placing a 48million pound bid in the January transfer market

Perth!

When you're attempting a humorous post it's always best to include something in your sentence that is actually funny.

But I did....Liverpool

Perth!

Sad very sad

I thought it was humorous! Placing the 48 million pound bid

Come on mate you have got to try harder than that

Can everyone shut the f up about Gary hooper!! How we have fallen is through mediocre players who cost us games.

Agger is our best player and he came from Brondby. Dont judge a player on where he came from. Sterling came from Qpr, Shelvey from Charlton, Suso from a third tier spanish side etc. Go back even further and you'll find a certain Mr.Dalglish who came from some scottish team a guy called Gary is currently banging them in for...

YNWA! (Adam)

Add to that another great no.7 Keegan came from Scunthorpe as did our greatest ever keeper(my opinion) ray clemence.
so i agree judge not from where they come from but where they go and what they achieve and if Rogers likes Hooper and buys him he will get all my support as each and every player does that pulls on the red jersey

gra2966

What's the criterion for a mediocre player? It's a judgment thing. Is Ba a mediocre player? Cisse? Jelevic? Fletcher is banging them in for Sunderland. Was Djeko considered mediocre? What about Arshavin? Did he set the world alight? Berbatov?

Who of those would have been classed as mediocre before being signed?

Barrym

We bought Rushie from Chester - he must have been rubbish! Apart from Nando and Beardsely I struggle to think of any other Liverpool striker who wasn't home grown or didn't come from a so called lesser club. Maybe Albert Stubbins when he came down from Newcastle in '46. Judge the player, not who he plays for. I wish we could unearth the Falcos of this world before they join Athletico Madrid before being sold for astronomical sums. Scouser Tommy

Jelovic ain't doing bad though is he!

Hi eds,
Sunderland is looking for Aiden McGeady. Think he would be a great RM for Liverpool specially together with Bale in the LM. I heard that Liverpool is interested in Bale.

Ok, who hid Aiden McGeady?

16 Oct 2012 11:46:58
Haha please not Bale...if he signed for us the media would suddenly notice that he dives! Plus I'm not sure we have a spare £40m that Spurs have somehow valued him at...

Ed63 mate a lot of Liverpool fans and some eds blame Kenny don't you think its unfair considering Camolli was brought to negotiate deals and he was director of football who had more power then kenny {Ed063's Note - I don't think Kenny is at all to blame honestly. He brought in the players he wanted which for most of the season worked well - they just fell away towards the end of the season. He then would have added quality to his starting 11 this season to push for a champs league spot, I wouldnt have sacked him personally}

He wasted large sums of money. 35 million on Carroll, 16 million on Hendo, 20 million on Downing. That money could have been spent way better. I love KD for what he has done for us but lets face it his transfers were not good enough. How many of his signings will be here in a few years not many. BR even tried to get rid of Hendo on transfer deadline day. Downing will surely be shown the door, Adam is gone, I think BR is not a big fan of Enrique and Carroll has already gone for a huge loss. Commoli only signed the players kenny wanted. After Commoli left he said he wanted to bring players like mata but kenny said no. If you spend 100 million you expect more and kenny had to pay the ultimate price for his mistakes. I totaly disagree with ed63 if anything he should have been sacked sooner. We are still paying for his mistakes today look at the table this is not BR's fault he was just left to rebuild and replace the rubbish we had.

Red raj {Ed063's Note - Sigh, I was going to try and reason with you Raj. Then I saw your line saying he should have been sacked sooner and I lost all hope of you being a thoughtful person}

16 Oct 2012 10:19:42
Red raj camolli was negotiating deals not kenny

16 Oct 2012 10:24:29
Red raj camolli was negotiating deals not kenny. Whatever players you mentioned camolli paid for them not kenny and owners really trusted him as he was best budy of bean

Ed063 i know what your saying but the results were not great for a long time not just near the end of the season we lost so many games during a three month period and i think the best thing to do was make a change then instead of waiting till the end of the season for things to get worse. Also Commoli might have been negotiating the deals but it was kenny who picked the players to sign not commoli he just signed them and i agree he paid way to much but they were the players Kenny wanted. Im not anti Kenny i love the bloke no one person has done more for the club but results were not getting any better under him. I felt sorry for him loosing his job like i feel for most managers but its a results industry and if you buy loads of players for big money then you have to get results.

Red raj

16 Oct 2012 11:32:11
Red raj if you talk about results then what about Rodgers where results are getting worst

Red Raj, You also need to put part of the blame on the players. The first 6 months Andy Carroll did n't bother, Kenny and the England manager said he needed to focus more on training, Andy may not be 35M striker but we all know he can be very good and if he started last season the way he ended it then things may have been very different ...
Downing is not a 20m player, but he delivered the crosses, and it was n't his fault our forwards did n't take their chances.
Kenny won the league cup ... and if it was n't for very bad refereeing decision he could've won the FA cup
Roy

We did try for better players my misinformed friend. Mata, llorente, Gomez, Ashley young.
AnfieldUSA

KK was culpable in two main ways.

Player selection. Irrespective of the prices paid the players chosen were unexceptional and better quality was available. KK did a remarkable job in stabilising the club when it was all the over place and in getting rid of players who should never have been at LFC in the first place but to a large extent replaced them with players not much better.

Public relations. The fall off in League form coincided with the Suarez affair and his suspension. There are plenty of questions to be raised about the way this was dealt with by the FA about which we can feel aggrieved but KK made the situation worse by refusing to draw a line under it and move on with the result that it festered and damaged the club both on and off the field. Incidentally others within the club should take share of the responsibility. It was not wholly down to KK.

Overall the season was singularly disappointing. Bad choice of players; huge amount of cash wasted; worse league position than the previous season with all its difficulties and self inflicted PR disaster. The manager has to take responsibility for this; but some others in the club should have lost their job as well.

Commoli negotiated. Kenny made it clear at the time, he was picking players. Did he, or did he not say that? So was he lieing? Repeat-Commoli negotiated who Kenny wanted! He also reccommended players. But Kenny had FINAL say!

16 Oct 2012 07:43:50
Liverpool scouting Arda Turan ?
Oh Kenny wish you know player from out side England and use £6m to bring him that time. Kenny miss use so much money.

hhh {Ed063's Note - Woulda cost a lot more than 6 mil triple h}

FSG never gave Kenny the time or extra resources he needed to implement his vision

Kenny could have been a rip roaring success

However FSG shattered that and now we'll never know

Rodgers dream may be a bleedin nightmare of Freddie Kruger proportions

Sour Puss {Ed063's Note - Erm i'm a massive Kenny fan, but its hard to say they didn't back him. 35mil on Carroll, 23mil on Suarez, 20mil on Downing, 16mil on Henderson, 7mil on Coates, 7mil on Enrique, 7mil on Adam. Thats a fair whack of money mate}

I am not disputing that FSG did not back Kenny

However more money was needed we were still short of 3-4 players and a season or two

Sour Puss {Ed063's Note - If Kenny had brought in an extra 3 or 4 players he would have had to integrate about 12 players into the team - that would be impossible}

16 Oct 2012 11:06:39
Arda Turan would have cost £6 million and wrestling legend Triple H ed? I don't even know how we would get Triple H, let alone sell him.

Jolly Red

It's lucky we didn't give Kenny any more money to piss away. We would have bid £20 million for Matt Jarvis, £17 million for Etherington and about £37 million for Darren Bent.

I love the legend kenny,but he was giving more than enough money to spend,he just didnt spend it wisely,think of the players we could of got out of that money,he bought mostly crap for over inflated prices.rd

We were short of an out and out srtriker , a winger and a defensive midfielder

How would integrating these have been impossible?

They were sadly lacking

If you want an example look at citeh Mancini integrated a lot more players than Kenny

Sour Puss

Liverpool linked with 5 players in todays bbc gossip column. A pile of crap I think!

Completely agree, they're all too good.

I have a very good friend who works at Spurs and apparently they are over hauling their squad in Jan and the summer! now what does it have to do with LFC? well this! shots Spurs are looking at Adam Maher (m), Patrick Herrmann (m), jordy clasie (m), Michel bastos (m+lb) & senad lulic. Vertonghan has apparently been on the phone weekly in order to persuade Christian eriksen to join him in London? If half of this does happen Liverpool will look at huddlestone and Lennon also lfc will not go for zaha Lennon would be their preferred right sided player with Walcott joining from arsenal ( the player is already talking about the move to Anfield)

16 Oct 2012 07:28:41
what i think of garry hooper and why i thinl liverpool should get him!

Finishing “ 9

Hooper is a natural and clinical finisher. Not one for the big grandstand efforts, he doesn't often wallop them in from 20 yards but that's because his positioning is so good he doesn't have to. Measured sidefoots and close-range finishes are more his game. Sorry for mentioning Mr Lineker again, but that does remind you of anyone? He has an uncanny ability to contort his body in tight situations inside the box to create just enough space and purchase to get shots off, and he doesn't miss many.

Heading “ 7

At 5ft 9, he's not the biggest striker you'll ever see and with plenty aerial threat from the likes of Wanyama, Mulgrew and Samaras at Celtic, he's rarely the primary target at setpieces. That said, his strength and physique make him appear bigger than he is and he's scored plenty with the noggin in his time at Parkhead.

Movement “ 9

Celts winger Kris Commons recently lauded Hooper's movement and vision in the Scottish press, citing it as an important factor in many of the team's goals, not just his own. He can leave centre-halves wondering what day it is with his off-the-ball running and has that priceless knack of turning up in the right place at the right time.

Pace “ 6

He's nobody's slowcoach but equally Hooper's not going to be giving Usain Bolt a run for his money. Though pace is not the most noticeable part of his game, his awareness, positioning and strength allow him to get ahead of defenders, as he proved when he got in behind Spartak's Insaurralde, who was consequently sent off for hauling him down.

Technique “ 8

Technique comes in many forms. It's hard to bring to mind an incident of Hooper dribbling past three defenders but that's normally because he's already popped up wrong side of them and is about to get on the end of a cross. His ability is in using his remarkable upper body strength to wriggle away from defenders, and his first touch is his most impressive attribute. He can receive a ball that comes down with snow on and either make it stick or knock it effortlessly into his path. This is how he manages to score so many goals that look easy.

Overall “ 8

Hooper is part poacher, part powerhouse and part provider. He'll drop deep and hold the ball up to open things up for his team-mates, and he'll equally pop up at the back post to finish from close range. If there's one criticism, he can have the odd spell where he looks off the pace, but they don't happen often and they never last very long. Is he ready for Liverpool? We'll have to wait and see.

I agree with this i would like to c him at liverpool but i doubt they would take a chance .... shame

What about Steven Fletcher? Think he'd be a right acquisition {Ed063's Note - Oh god}

Personally, I think Fletcher would be good enough for Liverpool.

What u think edd's is this a accurate description of hooper ? and are we looking at him like people are saying ? {Ed001's Note - he is nowhere near as good as that description! He scores goals, but he is lazy, end of last season and beginning of this Celtic fans were whining and they would have no issue with the club selling him. For me, that says it all, he simply isn't a special talent. Good player, good enough for the Prem, but not for a team with any aspirations of pushing for Europe.}

16 Oct 2012 07:27:30
Press today say the following:

Liverpool are lining up an audacious La Liga double swoop for Atletico Madrid's Turkish winger Arda Turan, 25, and Barcelona's Chile international forward Alexis Sanchez, 23.
This is from , explains alot!!
Also rumoured that w are interested in Sturridge, I think £20 mil should end that interest,
With Bent not playing it is expected, rumours of our interest! If we could get him go £3 mil it would be a good bu, due to his age, injury prone and attitude he is not worth any more but can score goals.
As usual, Spuds are also interested in all these players because their scouts and management copy everything ours do!!
Bazzaa {Ed063's Note - Sturridge is in the last year of his contract - he would cost 10 mil tops. Bent for 3mil? They bought him for 24 you know right?}

Ed063 yes I do, it's my valuation is all. {Ed063's Note - ok fair enough}

16 Oct 2012 08:12:03
Sturridge actually has 18 months left in his contract and will cost a little more than 10m. {Ed063's Note - no - he has 1 year left}

8.5 months in you want to be pedantic.

16 Oct 2012 03:41:02
Liverpools problem right now is a goal scorer
But the players were linked with are not good enough wallcot sturridge hooper ? I mean come on! They would improve the team... But seriously since Torres has left we havnt had a goal scorer for a top quality player u need to spend 25m+...

I think that should be the goal in January just buy one player who is top quality...

16 Oct 2012 06:34:00
Mate I think wages are big problem. We have a very strict and rigid systeam under Fsg when comes to wages. We need to be flexible especially in modern footy where class players demand decent wages and we need 1/2 class players in order to progress. What do you think ed should liverpool pay decent wages to players who can take us to next level {Ed063's Note - No we are just fine imo. Plus I have a gripe with clubs who pay players 200k a week etc. There is no way that a footballer should earn more than a Doctor or a teacher imo.}

Spend around 10 mill on garry hooper his wages i would think will be around the 25,000 -35,000 a yr and he can score

Well said ed footballers get payed far too much just to kick a ball around where as doctors save lives and they get payed peanuts

BigD {Ed063's Note - Its a sad indictment of the world when someone who plays sport gets payed more than someone who saves lives or shapes our childrens futures - thats my view anyway mate}

16 Oct 2012 08:28:39
Ed63 mate if you read my post carefuly I sayed decent wages not 200k a week atleast 130/150k a week to players who can take us foward coz we have realy spent on average players or pontential players who are good but now we need class players who can take our mighty club foward. Just think if we would had striker like higuain or damio(sry for spelling mate) they would solve our goal problems and we as club could atleast fight for champions league don't you think that's worth paying them decent wages at the same time as a bussiness point of view if time is right we can sell them for huge profits {Ed063's Note - Its alright mate, its just my own personal gripe. I think 130 - 150k a week is a bit more than decent wages though mate. Considering a teacher won't even get that in a year}

It is the money in football in general that makes the wages high. If i was a footballer, professionally i'd ask for as much as i can but if give away most of it to family friends and charity and just keep 500-1000 a week. Once a player is on 200000 a week all their morovation is gone because they are already on big bucks and it gets to their heads!

BthekingB {Ed063's Note - I don't blame the players for having high wages - it isn't their fault really. If every club in the world refused to pay over 50k a week they wouldn't get that much. Its the clubs who are at fault}

16 Oct 2012 09:47:56
Ed mate if all clubs agree to pay 50k a week then how will small club progress. Look at city they were playing in championship a few years back but now they are premier league champions. What surprises me is billionares who have lots of money to throw they really fancy clubs like city or chelsea or psg but don't want to invest their money on proper clubs with big fan base and globally respected {Ed001's Note - small clubs would progress by having a level playing field. Players would not be choosing their teams based on who pays the most, so they would consider things like playing time.}

It's not the clubs fault either, it's capitalism. Footballers are just like any other commodity, their price is determined by supply and demand. If there were a few thousand messis and a few thousand ronaldos then they would be earning minimum wage
