Sorry if this is a stupid question eds but I have used the search and can't find anything. Plus I was always told the only stupid question is the one u don't ask. has henderson n sturridge returned to training this week?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Henderson is available for selection at the weekend but did not play in last weekend's game. Sturridge is going to be a week to 10 days late on the planned return.}

I was at it . Great result and happy to be going to France although our team is not great . Now focus on city for me and I think we can get a result there . Lansdowne was booming last night but like anfield it can be a horrible place when team are not up against top opposition or not playing well . However when it clicks refs assistants and opposition teams crumble in the intensity . We as liverpool fans should realise that we can turn up the heat in our own stadium. Rant over,

Who's Sturridge? Did he play for Liverpool?

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed002's Note - I do feel sorry for the Liverpool players - particularly those who get trashed by many of the so called "fans" whilst they are injured.}

16 Nov 2015 20:03:56
I am not trashing sur ridge, I just want to know what's wrong with him.

Agree3 Disagree2

16 Nov 2015 20:04:01
Is Sturridge even classed as a football player anymore, or has he donated his legs to medical research?

We need to not pin any hopes of anything on Daniel Sturridge

In the nicest possible way.

16 Nov 2015 21:18:34
Does Ed002 know how British humour works?

Agree3 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - So the so called "fans" have never trashed a player then?}

16 Nov 2015 22:53:02
I have seen people trashing Sturridge a lot, the same happens when Lucas got injured for a long one when we're suppose to show them our support more then ever just wrong. Although to be fair I do think that one was just a joke.

Agree0 Disagree1

16 Nov 2015 22:58:16
Every teams fans trash . Arsenal - giroud Utd -Rooney che - all of them . Spurs - walker . Every side.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not like Liverpool - they out strip everyone one in the spewing hate stakes.}

17 Nov 2015 00:36:07
I asked about Sturridge the other day. the initial reports were fairly innocuous - 'bang on the knee', 'not serious', 'back soon' type of messages, but it seems like a fair amount of time now. I would have said this was more in the line of 'conspiracy', if anything, rather than 'trashing'.

Agree4 Disagree0

17 Nov 2015 01:36:43
To be fair, every player has had it, obvisouly all the back four, Lucas has from some posters saying he's slow and fouls too much, Milner, sturridge, ibe, ings before he played, even coutinho recently, calls for him to be dropped and he's not that good.

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Nov 2015 03:33:54
Im pretty sure its been talked about before but i think half of studges problem is now mental. If he has a knock or something which doesn't feel quite right. Mentally he then thinks i have to rest or go back and fix it as he got put out for so long. Understandable really. But he does seem to be made of glass. Hope he's back though would love to see him under Klipperty!

Agree1 Disagree0

17 Nov 2015 09:28:48
Edd unsound like that fella that got the sack from he's job . The lawyer . When it comes to Liverpool .

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is hard to disagree with such a well constructed argument.}

17 Nov 2015 15:36:31
Haha Ed it was a joke, considering you've got the most humour on this site I thought you'd have grasp that one. On a serious note though I doubt he'll playing much under Klopp, I can see the big German totally changing this squad. Building for success, so so calm now as a fan, it's absolute guarantee this manager will make us compete. Born winner.

Agree1 Disagree1

17 Nov 2015 17:24:28
Ed, you say Liverpool fans give the most stick of any English club towards their players. I don't know if you mean on this sitem or in general, but considering we are the mother supported team in this country (according to a post above), and this site then it's to be expected. it's all relative.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Let me try it this way, regardless of being the most supported club in the UK, some of the Liverpool fans are light years ahead of all other clubs in their abuse of the owners, the management, the former players, the current players and any potential future players.

Hopefully that clarifies the matter for you.}

listen we all know what we need a decent centre half let's spend the money and go for hummels he is known to JK a decent goalie would also be required someone who commands the PA who is available? And a decent attacking midfielder reus would be the No1 choice there no sentiment when money is involved let's make the attempt at least. we could also give game time to ISCO who is out of favour what does everyone think?

Hi Eds,
Currently doing a statistics project where we fit a model which will say where a club will finish in the league (only doing a few teams like Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal, City, Everton, spurs and villa) . I've been looking to find data for excel spresdsheets on totals spent on transfers each year and various other stats but have no joy so far. Was wondering if yee would have any idea where I could find this data? (Looking back maybe 10-15 years or so)
Cheers.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The accounts of all clubs are available and will give you the annual expenditure on wages, transfers and, critically, other payments such as agent fees (which you cannot exclude - as an example, Liverpool have spent £40M plus VAT on agent fees over the past three years). If you use transfer fees alone (which Transfermarkt will summarise and have correct at the start of the season but not during the season (due to the way the obtain data) then you will have a distorted view. Finding someone with access to the UEFA data will give you the correct transfer fees but not any of the additional data.

Aside from that I don't know what other data you are unable to find. f you want any such model to be valid, you need to build in such variables as injuries.}

16 Nov 2015 16:19:12
it sounds a big task of a job mate good luck in it.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Nov 2015 18:06:24
Not sure whether simple statistic model like logictic regression will give you an answer in your predictions, seems to be more complex econometry problem, but good luck.

Agree with eomer, would be really interested to see the result!

Can't guarantee how accurate the prices are but seem to be to what was reported. Probably a good starter for 10.

17 Nov 2015 01:39:54
Cheers Ed002, luckily for me the lecturer is an idiot and knows nothing about football. Doing only a basic enough regression model to predict the finishing position of a premier league team based on their net transfers, wages and other data with about 5 or 6 predictor variables. He really just wants us to be able to use the statistical software for real world problems so it wouldn't have to be ground-breakingly accurate! Cheers for the info!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If that is the criteria, it won't be accurate at all I am afraid.}

17 Nov 2015 23:14:35
Oh no I know full well it won't be accurate but its something easy to talk about for myself and he won't have a notion of what's going on anyway so it suits all parties involved.
Cheers.

Eds - how close to a return on their investment plan are the owners do you think? From what you tell us

They spoke about success on the pitch as a priority. Not happened.
You talk about significant investment but increasing debts.
No money to rebuild.

Are they happy at present?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They won't be happy because, (a) they have had no on field success, (b) they have had to invest far, far more than was anticipated, (c) the club is carrying a great deal of debt, (d) the new television deal is increasing the interest in investment in EPL sides and money is already going in to other clubs (recently Swansea and Bournemouth - with Crystal Palace up next) - clubs are up for sale even now (e.g. Everton and Aston Villa) and all of this brings new money and potentially investment in the squad - making life tougher going forward.

They will be happy as the value of the club is rising and the new television income will be coming through in 18 months or so.}

16 Nov 2015 15:58:08
Can you see the club being sold when this new television deal comes into place?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is always a exit plan - if the lack of on field success continues and the owners are given a viable way out then they would certainly give it serious consideration. Right now investors will likely want to cherry pick the cheaper clubs where a better return on investment might be possible - Everton and Aston Villa are good examples.}

16 Nov 2015 16:30:59
i think with getting BR in cost them a lot of money that was wasted he never had a clue with a big club, but with Klopp in he will bring success to the club in my mind and that will be the starting point for the success on the field, i think they know deep down their plan with Br failed that's why they went and got Klopp as they know a top manager will more likely bring success on the field than an up and coming one, their gambles have not paid off so they have now gone for the tried and trusted way with a successful manager at the helm who will give the club a better chance of being a success on and off the field, plus the new stand will bring more revenue in both through seats prices and merchandise up and up is the way we go.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I think you rather misunderstand the mount of money the new stand will bring in.}

16 Nov 2015 22:03:11
Would it be right to say ed that the new stand is more a matter of improving the club from an asset standpoint rather than significantly improving revenue?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It needed doing - but it will take years to pay off.}

17 Nov 2015 18:23:02
I don't suppose anyone is aware or not but are they planning on continuing working on any other stands after? Or is the current one the only one in the plan?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They have the existing approved plans and then outline approval to then extend the ground further to a capacity of 59k or so.}

18 Nov 2015 11:19:29
Brill, thanks for the response ed002.

No money to rebuild.

Are they happy at present?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - They won't be happy because the club is a money pit and there has been no on field success for their significant investment. The club is now also carrying considerable debt. They will be happy because of the increasing value of English sides due to the new television deal which will provide significantly more income from 2017 on.}

16 Nov 2015 10:44:30
Actually if this year we get in ucl they will definitely be happy. And if we are able to promote youth players to become 1st team stars, they will be happy and asset value of team will rise even without reinvestment. Who knows one of these fledglings can command 80 mil pound to real madrid?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The expectation would have been for Liverpool to have been in the CL every season but you are right they will be happier. As for the £80M kids, you are Living in a fantasy word.]

16 Nov 2015 13:09:56
Hey, We already had one sold for 50mil pounds so it is not fantasy.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - What as happened in the past with a player is no indication of what will happen going forward. The owners will certainly not be expecting anything like that. The Liverpool fans in general do not want to see the youngsters coming through - they want to see the club spend vast amounts of money thy don't have on the "marquee" signings and can celebrate when the club massively overspend on the likes of Firmino.}

16 Nov 2015 14:41:49
Sterling wasn't even our academy and if a player is that good he would have broken into the team already. Unless they're like 15 which will be years before they are worth anything like that.

poll kinda question

do you think we can take 3 points at man city this week?
personally - NO.

Believable12 Unbelievable16

16 Nov 2015 09:10:23
I think we can. Two reasons:
1. Team seems to be playing better away.
2. We are now creating enough chances, if we are good with our finishing we can get the goals.

Also, Silva and aguero may not play which is huge bonus as without them they lack some creativity.

We have to believe we can win each game!

16 Nov 2015 11:18:55
Yes, we seem to play well enough vs City and we'll have Hendo back (and perhaps even Sturridge for a cameo) . Coutinho playing with a bit of confidence so I can see a goal or two.

The problem will be shutting our Aguero with Lovren and Skittles in defence.

Agree2 Disagree2

16 Nov 2015 13:44:53
Agree with Zimbo`s assessment. Aguero and Silva may not play tho, which is always a plus as we saw vs Villa, they really struggled to create chances. I`ll take a point tho.

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Nov 2015 16:36:57
with our form man city will be wary of us so i think a draw will be the out come if we win what a bonus and boost that would be so i would be happy with a draw because that would also give the players a boost after all the players have all got better.
