Answer to 16 Mar 2011 12:24:29

Please read all of my post before telling me to get a grip. Is 4 new players unrealistic. If Reina leaves is 5, if Johnson also leaves is six and add to that if Skrtel leaves is six players really unrealistic.

Think a moment before you tell me to get a grip. The marked players are my favorites, but when does heaven come down to earth, of course I don't think all favorite players will come, but one's allowed to point out which players one like, or?

Red4Ever {Ed005's Note - We owe Steven Gerrard nothing. He held our club to ransom in order to get more money and to get a say in everything. He even threatened to leave because he was being played on the right-wing yet he was happy to play there, left-wing and as a holding midfielder for England. We've shown him massive support and loyality - more than he deserves. He's not the Mr.Liverpool people make him out to be.}

We don't owe any LFC player anything, except our support. They play for us, we pay for them.

I cannot believe I see all these posters saying sell Stevie G while we can.

Yes he is poor this season, no he is not going to get any better, but why are we not showing him the same loyalty he showed us when Chelski started sniffing around and what we demanded from Torres and now demanding from Pepe?

He may not have the influence he once had, but I would still pick him in fornt of many supposed world leaders, we just need him to maybe drop back from the attacking part of his game and be more of an enforcer with the vision to start attacks.

Maybe even use him as an impact sub like we did earlier in the season when he saved us by scoring a hat-trick to keep us in the Europa Cup.

Lets get behind him and show him that his loyalty was not wasted on our support, we are not other clubs that dismiss our legends, we embrace them.

LFC Till I Die

what you have forgotton is how much he gave our club while he was here. ok hes gone now but he is still a quality player and while i do think gerrard contributed to tha by making so many chances for him i still wish him all the best will neve forget some of his goals like in the 4-1 thrashing of united. all im saying is let bygones be bygones and i really do hope the kop welcome him back when we play them next season

Does anyone else think that we really need a replacement for Stevie G? He is and always be an LFC legend but seriously he has been poor now for some time and only shows glimpses of his old self! If he doesn't recover from this current injury and start showing better form then I say cash him in for more than he is worth (like we did Torres) and get in a real quality CM! Now is the time as we a re-building and looking like making a real improvement for next season! Thought?

I think we have someone already mate. If we played 4-4-2 and with a holding midfielder. Then Mireless could do Stevie's job no probs.

We've all seen glimpses of what Raul can do. He has good technical ability on the ball, he has a good football brain, he can pass and he can certainly pop up from midfield and get you a goal. It sounds like here i'm describing Stevie but i'm deffinetly talking about Mireless. All Mireless has to do is get stuck in more but that will come the more matches he plays in the Premiership.

Aquilani to come back in the summer due to juve not willing to pay the 15 m euros,
i for one will be glad if this does happen, i know the eds say he doesn't like the physical side of the game in england, and wants to stay in italy etc but he showed after coming back from a serious ankle injury flashes of his ability and scored a few towards the end of the season he spent with us. if he did came back and managed to settle and adapt then he could be like a new signing next season, we are looking at charlie adam to give us extra creativity in midfield, why spend 8m on adam when we already have aquilani? gerrard said he was great in training, maybe the fact he had hard first season, and then looking at how defensive hodgsan's tatics were, (never really gonna be someone who likes to tackle) he wanted out, but under kenny things are alot more attacking. with injuries, rotation etc iwould prefere him to spearing any day.

Blair Mayne YNWA {Ed005's Note - His groin problems haven't helped him but I don't think his groin problems are enough to completly hinder him from performing better. And I just don't believe you can put the finger on injuries alone.}

- - - - - - - - - -

fully agree with ya ed, but I to would be disillusioned with life within liverpool before the changes that have happened.

You can see he still gives a lot in a game even when injured and he ran the show at chelsea with lucas beside him, which is where he got his injury.

What im saying is, he has stayed at liverpool to win things, out of love. things haven't gone our way since gettin to athens and world class signings have been non existant untill the recent january window.

The gerrard debate will ramble on, but im sure that will all stop next season when he captains a resurgent liverpool team, a team that will be capable of winning major trophies again.

Please, lets not abandon our love for stevie, he hasn't lost it at all.

Not yet!

LIVLIM YNWA {Ed005's Note - Man Utd the only game you can think of? Regardless of what you think he has underperformed for two seasons and although he has acknowledged that himself I just find it annoying that people give Lucas unfair stick yet don't say a bad word about Gerrard.}

weve very high expectations of gerrard who at the end of the day is prob the best player to play for our dear club but on lucas every game he impresses me more and i do think since KK has come in he has wanted the ball more and distributed the ball as good as anyone and is the player now we taut we'd signed and just one shout to tha worhorse dirk kuyt may not use the ball as well but his endeavour is second to none that's why i think pride in the liverpool shirt has been restored to be honest take maxi out who at times doesn't look to be bothered the whole squad are giving 100% of what they have to give and long may it last

I know what people will say (he is gone, get over it)
but. . . . . . i was watching the itv on the run up to the game and all you keep getting is he is trying to find form, has struggled. well what a load of tosh didn't he get 2 in his last game for us then 1 against blackpool, i make that 3 in 3.

- - - - - - - - - - -

yea mate, he did get 3 goals. two tap in's against wolves and 1 against blackpool which was a decent finish yes.

This is the last time I post on him, you should all realise he isn't needed or wanted here any more, no matter how good or not his goals record was. It is all old news, and quite frankly, with or without him we will continue our progress.

GET OVER IT! !

I watched an hour of Real Madrid vs Lyon tonight and i couldnt help but be impressed by a couple of there players. I think Aly Cissohko would easily be the solution to our left back problem, he seemed to be at ease against Di Maria.
I also liked Dejan Lovren. He played a 50 yard diagonal ball at one point and i think he could be a top ball playing centre half for us.

Did any of the ed's watch the game?

Thanks
Stu {Ed005's Note - Sorry mate I missed the game due to other commitments.}

To be fair Ed Stevie has had this persistant groin problem. Which has probably prohibited him to be at the level we all know he can be. But yet Stevie also gets his fair bit of criticism and he's been injured, which i also can't understand?

Eds great job yer doing here wi yer answers to some good questions and some borering the ridiculous but what i have to say is for the first time in ages liverpool seem to be targeting the right players to fit the liverpool way ie ball playing genuine hard grafters all u have to do is take a look at suarez and carroll and shelvey when he is fit. for the first time in ages im really excited because i think thers a blueprint for the team and the jigsaw pieces are being put in place and im confident whether they be high or low profile players that eventually come in they will serve the club well and fair play to KK and comoli if ther not letting clubs hold them to ransom. I really do believe wer making bigger strides than previous years and with the youth devolopment doing superbly. this is THE great club in english football and i think wer heading in the right direction (wud like yer opinion eds )
great times ahead YNWA {Ed005's Note - I certainly feel more optomistic and I am looking forward to the Summer, but I'm not expecting line after line of big names.}

My flatmate's family are all St. Etienne supporters and they have driven me mad about Dimitri Payet! What's the rumour about us signing him? According to them (Family!) Payet in Liverpool will take the premiership by storm!
Any comments Ed? {Ed005's Note - He has been watched and there is a chance we could get him. However another ed sites out PSG as a likely destination.}

Theyve all only started playing good since king kenny took over, and lucas is now not as good as he was when kenny wasnt there, , meireles has been r best player since kenny took over and kelly, , and poulsen when we all know how poor he is
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I disagree mate. Lucas has been playing well consistantly now for 2 years. Pepe was our best player last year but Lucas was good aswell. Lucas has been our best player this season.

Think how good he was at Stamford Bridge then against Man'ure. In both matches he did a fantastic job sitting in front of the back 4. Suarez got MOTM against Man'ure but Lucas was a close 2nd.

LIVERPRES {Ed005's Note - That may be true, but it is a big distraction none the less and I feel it would benefit us if we weren't involved in it next season.}
. . . . . .
Your rite in a way, but the trouble is you still have to play 1st team players then come the weekend there tired.
Also if we were in it the fans would want to win every game, so its easier to just not be in it.

LAVERS
********************************

Good points - I didn't really think of the fans that would be paying to see a strong Liverpool side run out as well.

I just can't see how we are going to keep the whole squad happy if we get the players we are linked with. Everyone is going to want as many games as possible. The more games we play, the happier the squad will be.

One final point - if we can't handle playing in the premiership and Europa, how the hell are we going to cope with the premiership and UCL if we qualify? We need to be ready for this type of season when we qualify fior UCL.

LIVERPRES {Ed005's Note: If players want first-team football they'll want to be playing in the first team on a regular basis in most games. Not in a second string team in the Europa League against opposition they may not have even heard of. In regards to not coping with two competitions, its more to do with the fact that it's such a distraction.}

I've been reading this site for a while now but this is my first post. Couldn't help but notice the editors getting a lot of stick today, which I feel is unjustified. They give their honest opinion and it seems some people just don't want to hear it.

I for one appreciate the effort they put in to keep this site going, as my web browsing would be a lot less entertaining if they stopped.

So please keep up the good work Ed's! {Ed005's Note - Many thanks.}

I'd like to see us move for any of the following players;

Muller
Clichy
Bojan
Henderson
Rodwell
G Cahill
Milner
A Johnson

Most have played in the EPL and played well and a few are either negotiating contracts or playing second fiddle to someone else.

Agreed they are huge longshots but if you don't ask you don't get?!

I'd take aqua back anyday! He wasn't given a chance when he was here and at the end of his stay showed glimpses of quality. He's jus the type of midfielder we need, a creative playmaker who can unlock defences and he's our player already.
I also think if NESV can cough up 30m for sanchez we'll sign him, as no matter how much he loves united, there will be competition with nani, valencia and giggs, whereas with us he is garranted a starting place every week no matter how badly he plays as maxi basically does nothing every game and he's a regular.

Ed I was wondering do you (or anyone) know anything about the new fifa rules to do with spending money on players according to how much revenue the club brings in? I remember over the january window when chelsea spent all that money on 2 players it was stated that they did it because fears of the rule preventing such spending come the summer. I've noticed alot of players people mention on this site like ageuro, sanchez, neymar, lucas, ganzo etc are said not to be likely because chelsea are more likely to get the player, so if they rule comes in (or even exists) would that give us a more realistic chance to get one of these players?

Why is it that every player we are linked with so Juve, yet they are telling us they can't afford Aquilani. They are said to be front runners in the chase for Sanchez, yet are trying to back track on the fee for Aquilani. If they aren't going to pay the agreed amount, I say bring him home now.

Ed, Palermo have confirmed they have recieved a 50mil euro bid for Pastore. Who do you think its from? {Ed005's Note - Don't know mate. Palermo could be just saying that to set a benchmark. That's like £45m isn't it? It is likely that they'll say they were offered that so that if a club bids for him it will be a high offer.}

Players like aquilani, kuyt and cole are experienced international players of quality n the sort if players we need in our squad, to bring off the bench instead of poulson, spearing n ngog.

Players that have to go are - Greek, skrtel, poulson, spearing, ngog, maxi and all out on loan abroad. They just arn't good enough.

The Times Football Editor, Tony Evans, has spoken to Anfield Road this evening and made it absolutely clear that he was both "disgusted" and "furious" to see his name used by the notorious so-called Liverpool fansite KopTalk in their latest 'exclusive'.

The KopTalk website is well-known amongst Liverpool supporters for its financial exploitation of the Hillsborough disaster, for selling badly-faked and extortionately-priced signed Liverpool memorabilia and even for ticket touting. It is also notorious for making up stories about the club and its players - often potentially damaging - and in many cases demanding payment before allowing access to the stories.

For these reasons the site was 'banned' from the NewsNow network some years ago and is not considered a reliable source by any stretch of the imagination.

Ed just a question iv just had a pop on the chelski rumours site and they all on about spending big cash for the likes orf agguero sanchez and bale which would combine to at least a 100 million but i fort the rule comes in at the end of the season to stop the likes of chelski and man city spending this ridiculas amount of money and bring the leauges more competative and give every team an oppitunity. .would this bring down the prices of these so called superstars where clubs are asking ridiculas prices? {Ed005's Note - I doubt it will bring down the prices of players - just restrict clubs.}

Why all this talk about sanchez please!? Let chelsea have him for 30 million he wouldn't be interested in joining us anyway! We can buy 15 good players for that amount 30 million is a lot for just one winger

Mate have you seen him play? He's one of, if not the hotest property in world football and will have the same impact on the prem as the winker did up the road. . trust me. .People like him and Hazard are a must. if u want young talent we have to b prepared to pay for it unfortunatley.

It's a shame Torres keeps making remarks but that's up to him. (. .we have no idea what went on with those texan cowboys in charge)

At the end of the day he scored goals that made me smile and we doubled our money! I'd gladly take another Torres who scores sublime goals then after 3.5 seasons has a strop and leaves for double the money!

Life's too short to worry about the opinions of multi-millionaire footballers, trust me, they don't think about us when they're buying their next supercar!

16 Mar 2011 17:55:56
Well, I opened up this site today, scrolled down to the bottom, got halfway up and some of the posts, pmsl

Torres is LONG gone, and I am glad. I sit on the kop regularly, and I have never heard people wollowing in the fact that we got a worse deal out of the torres money.

Torres has lost a yard of pace, and he WILL find it hard to recapture it, im not saying he wont, but he will find it hard.

Look at Owen as an example. A long list of the same injuries ruins you as a player, yea im sure he will score plenty of tap ins, but the days of torres getting the ball and gliding past the very best of defences are long gone too.

In Suarez and Carroll we have a much more deadly strike partnership. Not very often in the last two seasons did I see Torres bully defences like he used to, it was the complete opposite actually.

To all that haven't already, forget Torres, he is a long distant memory just like the yanks that have also been replaced.

And good riddance. Thanks for the memories nando, but that's all they will ever be, long distant memories!.

Hi. . I saw this earlier:

Ed001's Note - or you need to grow up and stop being so bitter about a player who has left. It is pathetic and childish everyone going on about Torres all the time, he left ages ago, get over it! This is nothing to do with a man favouring another team, this is to do with all the whining about him being pathetic, end of. Some times I am ashamed by how bitter some of my fellow Liverpool fans have become.

And so I wrote:

Why is talking about Torres a sign of bitterness or pathetic. . It was a big deal to the club, the team and fans and as such many of us still discuss it and share opinions.

It was only 2 months ago and our team is undergoing a reshaping because of it and it has caused fresh speculation about our summer activity. To say it was ages ago and to 'get over it' is just odd.

Largely this site is used as a discussion forum and to have editors have a go at people for wanting to talk about one of the clubs recent big incidents is disappointing.

>>> My final say on the matter is please note the difference between wanting to sensibly discuss something as feel I did above and being an obvious nutjob like The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96

I'm appreciative of the work you do here, but don't tar me with the bitter or pathetic brush just because I think it's not a problem to discuss one of LFC's biggest events of the year just 2 months later - when i believe it will have an effect on our upcoming summer.

Just think it's bad form to be called such things when having a discussion on a discussion site. (Feel free to continue abusing The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96 however. .!) And again, appreciate the work you do. {Ed005's Note - As I said before the eds for ages have had to put up with abuse, profanity and insults towards ourselves and our families just because we give our opinion (when it happens to be different to theirs). As for Torres, I don't care if people talk about him. I just think we'd be better looking to the future and moving on rather than continue to dwell on losing him and giving him stick. We just need to get over it. But hey, perhaps if I just agree with you you'll stop moaning? Here goes - you are 100% correct. There.}

16 Mar 2011 17:37:32
To the poster calling himself "the chef kd7" you are a moran, I can only assume that you think you are a chef because you flip burgers! Nobody is interested in what you have to say because you don't have the intellect to form a coherent statement. Your spelling and grammar aren't up to much either so just jog on bl**head!

16 Mar 2011 17:33:45
AQUILANI - if we don't get at least EUR 12m for him , I would bring me back for at least 6 months to see if he can add quality to the squad. He is fit now and giving him a full pre-season to settle in would give him the best possible chance to show his true quality then we can judge him fairly. I would only play him behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 or more likely in a 4-3-3 as shown below. But we would need a defensive midfielder (destroyer) seating in front of the back four to ensure any fires can be put out efficiently when required. Obviously the other players are for demonstration purposes only and I would hope we would have a stronger starting 11 then this come the end of the summer transfer window.

. . . . . Reina

Kelly . Carra. . .Agger Johnson

. . . . . Destroyer

.Meireles/ Gerrard . Aquilani. .

I love this club and want it to do well more than anything but what is really starting to grate is the number of 'fans' who keep getting dragged into the Torres issue. He's gone and at the moment not setting the world alight yet we need to keep bringing him up when he opens his mouth.

We finally get a manager who isn't afraid to show that no one is bigger than the club (rafa and roy wouldn't have done it) sign one world class player and one fantastic prospect yet we're still not happy.

Torres when fit did an awful lot for us and the fact we got £50 mil for him is great. I hope Torres does well (not against us obviously) but that's it I don't really care about him after that and I don't know why so many people keep biting when he says something. We are LFC the greatest club on earth and no one person is bigger than us. We are a rising force again lets focus on who is here and fighting for the shirt and hammer Braga tomorrow night.

Ed, whats your take on people crying foul over Reina(Spanish) moving to Manure but has no shame linking Baines(Scouser) with us and thereby inviting the wrath of Evertonians! I know Everton is struggling financially and Baines is a terrific left back, but will he agree to join a rival club and even if he does so(hopefully since he is a Liverpudlian :D), will the Kop faithful accept him? {Ed002's Note - It is not worth considering until he says he is moving there. He has already become a figure of hate to Liverpool fans, lets not make it worse.}

He has already become a figure of hate to Liverpool fans: SINCE MOVING TO EVERTON or what? Any specific reason, Ed? {Ed001's Note - he was referring to Reina, with people assuming he wants to go there just because he never ruled out a move there.

Ok, but i am waiting for an answer on Baines!

Will he agree to join a rival club and even if he does so(hopefully since he is a Liverpudlian :D), will Everton allow him and even if they let so due to their financial situation or the player crying for a move(a la Mascherano transfer), will the Kop faithful accept him having played for Everton earlier?

Why does everyone keep saying Baines is Red? My housemate is a season ticket holder for Everton (the sh@thouse) but sits next to Bainses brother and has done for several years! The lad is a massive Blue and always has been, even at Wigan he was only ever itching to get to Everton!

Still love to sign him but think its unrealictic!

"Not so much The Madness, more a slight case of indigestion at this time of the day!"

This banal moaning about Fernando Torres is a waste of oxygen.
The man has left for pastures new.
We have more pressing issues (such as the ones I hammered on about earlier this morning) and more importantly, I can't see much point in abusing the editors over this issue.

Getting shot of an old flame is always hard. We loved and revered the man, but he now says that love is now what he may have, or now feels. That's fair enough. Move on guys. Talk about Suarez, Carroll, Lukaku and possibly Honda.
Stop living in the past.

I must admit I'm confused at the thought of Forum Editors telling the punters what their opinions ought to be. It's a bit like writing for Pravda in the good old days of Communism.

Nice to hear Steve Gerrard's op was a success and that he is starting his rehab already (is that ok to think that ED).

One last thing, I think some people are extremely naive if they really believe that Torres was a genuine Liverpool fan. In my humble opinion (if I'm allowed one) I think this was just PR. I doubt very much if Mr Torres' weekend is ruined if Liverpool lose.

Anyway, good luck to him in the future, and may he get what he deserves in life (although I hope he never scores another goal!)

Kenny's Lovely Daughter {Ed005's Note - No-one said you couldn't have an opinion. People ask for our honest opinions and we give ours. I think its just a case of people wanting us to tell them what they want to hear rather than us give opinions. And if we disagree with them we get abuse. Any one else really not looking forward to tomorrows game on TV, not the game itself but the coverage - The dire, boring and lifeless commentary that FIVE offer plus even though they have a HD channel they can't afford to pay for the rights to broadcast the match in HD.

On a separate note im looking forward to Carroll causing Braga masses of problems - just don't hope we play long-ball all game!

Perhaps you need to stop and think before clicking the send button in future? Either way you are doing yourself no favours. Sorry Ed but did you just really say that Carroll is a better player than Torres? Im not happy that Torres left or the way he left but it's time for some honesty, when Torres starts to find his form (and he will sooner or later) he will
be a top signing for chavsea. Carroll is a massively overpriced gamble which we can only hope comes off {Ed001's Note - not as much of a gamble as a player who cost a lot more and has serious injury problems. Torres may well find form again, but I would prefer Carroll and Suarez to just him every day of the week. Torres can't play with a partner, he wouldn't suit the way Kenny wants us to play, so yes I would say Carroll is a better player for us.}

The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - so just ignore him, he is just bitter about his time here, but he does have damn good reason to be upset with the club. Everyone seems to forget that he is not a Liverpool fan and he joined to win things and received promise after broken promise. His career was threatened by the medical staff's cock ups, so he has a very good reason to be bitter. We should just remember that he was once a player and understand that he was mistreated by the club. Yes he could have handled it better, but so could the club. It is time to move on and treat him like an ex-player.}

The chef kd7 YNWA JFT96 {Ed001's Note - or you need to grow up and stop being so bitter about a player who has left. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

See what your saying ed about wisjing him well, however you got to admit he hasn't done himself any favours regarding the timing of the deal. From the outside it seems as though he forced the deal through quite late leaving liverpool very little time. I know some may day this is Chelseas fault for showing there hand late but you would like to think players whould leave the club in the best possible way alloeing there old club to take advantage of the situation. Personally I don't think Carroll would have cost as mush at the start of the transfer window. I know players have to think of there career first and Torres desrvers better players around him and top honours but finally things seemed to be looking up under NESV and Kenny. When you keep getting kicked in the nuts all the time you tend to come out fighting and weve had our fair share kickings over the last couple of years. Another point is that Its Liverpool, a city that's fanatical about football for good reason Previous Govermnets neglected us as a city and football has provided an outlet, break from reality for every Liverpool and Everton fan. When you grow up here it gets bread into you. Its changed a bit now but years gone by, Saturday was the day to look forward too. Unfortunatley we just can't help it, we love football and take it personally. I for one do wish him well, but you wouldn't beleive the level of dissapointment I feel about the deal.

Just ate a sandwich. That was bread into me.

Ed. . Torres hatred is most definitely deserved for the reasons outlined above and in a couple of other recent posts below. Why he feels the need to keep putting us down is beyond me, and the timing was incredibly damaging on our reputation & finances. The way he has conducted himself may well lead other players to wonder if LFC would be a good fit for them.

To the horse fancier, your bet may well pay £130 for £10. . but it's still a double of two favourites - something any muppet with half a clue could select. In my book a tip has to offer something a bit more!

The same fans who for the last six months of his Liverpool career he did not giv his effort for , u can't justifie the fact he left at the time was a sinking ship , an with his comments 2weeks before he left , let the fans believe he would honour his contract . . . The Torres situation really upsets me. I accept he has to be positive about his new club but when he says he was thinking of leaving in 2009 it is hard to believe. Only weeks before he left he pledged support about honouring his contract. Now he has said that LFC are (not were) a selling club. How will this square with players in whom we show an interest? If we don't qualify for the Europa next season it will take more convincing for players to want to come to us. He must realise that his comments will be read by other players, some of whom may value his opinion.

I thought he was wonderful when he was with us but now I have only contempt for the way he left and how he has handled himself since the move. All the images of his goalscoring pale into insignificance. When we host CFC next year I would like to see him greeted with complete silence. Total indifference, no reaction, show him he no longer matters to us.

I put a £20 treble on hurricane fly, big bucks and imperial commander, bit gutted because they were favourites.
And it only pays £850 , think ill have to back the outsiders from know on.

Torres recently said that he proved his loyalty to Liverpool by not joining Man Utd and Man City
Ed, I wanna know whether the local Liverpool fans has more hatred for Man City than Chelsea {Ed001's Note - depends on the fan, older fans have different hatreds to the younger ones and each person has their own views too. A lot of older fans hate Leeds, personally I can never forgive Arsenal for that Michael Thomas goal which broke my heart. Whereas City were always a bit of a joke club to me as a kid and I never developed any antipathy towards them because they hated Man Utd so much.}

I don't mind if Reina leaves - for me he is good keeper but can't catch, and I hate that. Like antone else, if he's not happy then let him go - thanks and goodbye.

I understand Torres is now homesick and angling for a move back to Spain although I don't see too many Spanish clubs in the queue. I've heard that the main reason he left was because he was concerned about his form and was very worried that he would struggle to get into the team with the levels of investment outlined to him by the owners. He has been given a guarantee of 1st team selection in the premiership by Chelsea - hence Drogba's grumpiness.

Alright lads.

United were very poor last night i thought, i don't know how they are still top of the league. It just goes to show how bad the EPL is this year.

Anyway, i had a look at the match last night to look at your man Taiwo, he looks alright and has loads of pace. I've seen people on here giving out about him saying he's brutal but i think he will be a good signing if we get him. He would be a good option for at least two seasons and then maybe look at a better one if he doesn't cut it, but with Kelly, Johnson, Marveaux and Taiwo as full backs we would look good in that area.

Other players i noticed were Diawara, M'bia & Remy i thought they done well, Diawara IMO is what we have been missing since Hyypia left, M'bia is a strong midfield player & Remy looks to be a silky player bit on the style of Suarez. I know we were linked with him last season what happened with that do you know ED?? I admire Deshcamps as a manager too and if KK did not get the job (i hope he does get it) we should go back in for Deschamps. He has a good record, taking Monaco to the Champions league final in 04 winning the French cup and runner up in the league, promoted with Juve to Serie A, with Marseiles ha has won the French league too. I would like to see him at the helm if possible in the future. I'd like your opinions.

By the way Happy Paddy's tomorrow, im going to get sh*t-faced :)

Barry B {Ed001's Note - I am sorry but I fail to see why anyone would want any player from that awful Marseille side from last night. Not one player performed well, Remy was technically good but showed a total lack of desire, never once tried to get a pass that wasn't exactly to his feet and turned over possession numerous times because of it. Taiwo was torn a new one by Valencia after he came on and was outmuscled by Nani early on despite being 3 times his size. Diawara was all at sea defensively, Mbia looked as out of position as he was. It is an awful United side struggling with injuries that outplayed Marseille last night. If that is how Deschamps manages, we dodged a bullet not getting him.}

I have been an lfc fan for over 35 years, in my opinion, u cannot compare reina to manure to that of baines to us.

Reina has been at the club 5 years & knows patriarchal feeling between us & manure, & no1 since I've been a fan has directly crossed the divide, it's was bad enough with Owen.

Players have always crossed merseyside, Johnson, McMahon, Beardsley to name a few.

I wonder whether our younger fans understand, the rivalry between us n manure is far more fierce that that of everton. So there us no comparison between the two moves. But everton fans will have a different opinion.

{Ed002's Note - Points 4 and 5 at the top are incorrect. Bolton or Stoke will qualify for Europa. Liverpool as winners only get automatic re-entry if the FA write to UEFA and request it. Your first example is horribly wrong. For Chelsea not to be in Europe next season they would have to end up 6th or lower and not win the Champions League - it is as simple as that. I have explained all of this yesterday. It is a great pity that as a Liverpool fan you cannot thank Torres for his efforts and wish him well.}

"The Madness of King Roy XXXIX"

(日本の私たちはあなたに立つ! Japan we stand with you!)

The Gallic essence is still wafting round the room as I write this. The sense of frustration and despair as MUFC stride into the last eight of the CL and the sheer annoyance at die Bayern letting slip a 2-2 route in to join them! As a closet Borussia Dortmund fan I was delighted . . . but really!

Then when you read the overnight postings, check the web and read about Taiwo, Young, Honda and Lukaku, it brings more questions than serves answers.

TAIWO: I just can't have the nonsense posted on here about him being poor, average, lazy or the abuse posted yesterday. He is a recognised Nigerian international and has proved to be a physically powerful defender with a strong shot. He is more the sort of defender I would like to see us have next season: although we have cultured defenders who can often bring the ball out from the back (Agger, Kelly, Johnson) we could do with a tough tackler and this could be Taiwo. I sometimes wonder if some of the posters on here live on the web and base 100% of their decisions on what they read, rather than doing a little more digging, watching and thinking? I imagine Christoper Samba at Blackburn might be painted in the same mould as Taiwo, but I for one would not be averse to having that man in our back four.

HONDA: the quiet way we have gone about a number of enquiries for players has given me a nice feeling about Damien Comoli. I believe this may be the reason why things seem to have gone cold on the Honda front. Interesting to note that no other big club has been mentioned in either the 'real' media or the likes of talkS**T or The Mirror. It may be a case of waiting to offload Spearing, Maxi and Poulsen, before an announcement about Honda is made. This is one signing that does excite me.

LUKAKU: I've never regarded Belgium as a real country. After all, it only walked away from being a part of the Netherlands in 1830 to become a seperate kingdom. Since then it has given us little save for Magritte, chocolate, TinTin and George Simenon, beer and an easy run into Europe via the Eurostar terminal! Then again, they also gave us Eric Gerets who made Tommy Smith, look even less like a cultured and erudite footballer. But I loved the way Eric played with a snarl and what a beard!
Now they have Romelo Lukaku, a highly rated teenager - perhaps a little overhyped, but at 17, with a physique to shame Micah Richards and a real eye for goal. If we are considering a third striker, it won't be Ngog. It needs to be a man with experience, but this giant of a boy is worthy of more than a little consideration. He is NOT the finished article. He is young enough to tire in the big games and young enough to make errors. Yet he is also a 'big boy' and strong enough to handle himself outside the box. I believe he is a player we should invest in. If the fee is more than £20,000,000 then we should hesitate, but consider Carroll and Suarez picking up injuries. Who would we have to fall back on?

YOUNG: I don't think Ashley Young will sign for us as the stronger rumours swirl round MUFC. Yet this is precisely the sort of player we have looked at, aimed at, desired and failed to land in the past six years for the left of midfield. Ryan Babel was the man I thought might be the solution, but that was promise unfulfilled. My admiration for Young stems from his fleet of foot dribbling, pace and ability to score from outside the box. With him in the side we could easily release Johnson to the right hand side of midfield (rather than as a defender) and I suggest he would dovetail very nicely with Taiwo. Here the fee will the stumbling block. But with Houllier's diminishing respect at Aston Villa signalling an end to his career there, perhaps he may steer this one true Midlands talent our way?

SPANISH DETRITUS: It is less than amusing to read day in and out of the Spanish players or players with names ending in 'O' that we seem to hanker after. It's a cse of erection will follow when lusting after Spanish names. . I've always believed that football is cyclical in more ways than just victories. We toyed very nicely with the German influence in the 1990s - Babel, Riedle and Hamman and then came the Spanish galleon of players sliding into Liverpool. Now I see it being a Gallic cruise ship arriving on time and I repeat, this is no bad thing. I can't say I can see any Spanish player that I really want at LFC next season (relax! I mean players that are available, not ones from your eternal wishlists!)
We are moving on from Spain and I await our French cousins and German colleagues who will be returning to liven our game in the next 18 months.

FINALLY: Carragher is a name that equates to roughly 10 spaces in typographical terms when on a shirt. Hernandez is just about the same. If Jamie Carragher wanted to have Carra on his shirt, or Lucas wanted "gro er Chef" (big chief) on his, do you think the FA would allow it? So, tell me why this MUFC player is allowed to have an unofficial nickname on his shirt? As far as I am aware, 'little pea' is not his recognised birth or registered name with the football authorities. I appreciate that some people get shaky and excited about any player with a single name (cue Samba music, dancing and picture of a beach!) but is this another case of 'one rule for one and . .'
Or is it that I am just getting old and bitter?

It saddens me the comment that Reina has already become a figure of hate. . that's a disgrace and a disgrace that our fans could even do that. he is a liverpool player, shouldnt we be showimg him our support and doing our best to keep the lad. . he is one of the best keepers in the world. so for us to drive him out to united would be a disaster. .

SO PLEASE STOP HATING HIM SUPPORT HIM AND GET BEHIND THE BOYS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SEASON. AND LETS SEE WHERE WE END UP!

Those who havent already get your tickets for Thursday, reduced prices so no excuses. there on general sale now. and lets get the lads all the way to Dublin and win some silverware. that way players will see we are moving in the righ direction and maybe stay and we can also attract players by winning silverware. .

Just a quick note, with all this talk of where we will finish and the possible and probable posistions being between 4 and 7. Its a stark contrast to when Kenny took over and we were being tipped for relegation battle. I think Kenny and Steve Clarke deserve a massive amount of praise for making it possible for us to even have a discussion about finishing in the top 6 let alone the top 4.

Are the people basically saying that his transfer was legit or is it something else to do with it? {Ed002's Note - It is to do with the role of an uncontracted agent used by Liverpool and his partnership with Kevin Nolan's agent.}

I have been reading a lot of fans wishlists for new players coming to LFC. A lot of responses state things like Chelsea will blow us out of the water with their financial muscle etc., including personal terms. . .

My question is - how does anyone know what John Henry is prepared to pay ?

With their plan to win the title by 2013 they would need to put in some hefty investment initially.

We might all be in for a good summer transfer session - let's see.

Also we have really good young players coming through, several of whom could make the first team - not unlike the Mancs years ago. Who ever watched the FA Youth Cuo tie against MU, will have seen our boys play them off the park - even though we lost.

Keep the faith

Here are the various possibilities of us playing in Europe next season:
1. Finish in the top3- improbable
2. Finish 4th- will qualify for CL unless an English team wins CL and finishes 5th or less which will result in qualification for EL
3. Finish 5th- will qualify for EL
4. Finish 6th- will qualify for EL if Man City wins FA cup and finishes 5th or less
5. Win EL- will qualify for EL regardless of our league position(I would like to see this happen as then we will overtake Juventus and Inter to become the most successful club in this competition{4 titles} and also end our title drought since 2006)

Ed, please clarify my doubt:
Consider this case:
Chelsea finishes 4th, Spurs-5th, Liverpool-6th
Spurs win CL, we win EL
Stoke or Bolton qualifies for EL through FA cup final appearance
Therefore, 4 CL spots occupied and 3 EL spots occupied!
Will Chelsea be given an additional spot in EL?
I wanna see Torres end up without any European action next season! :)

Such a situation can also happen to us if:
1. We finish 4th, Spurs win CL and finishes 5th or less & Man City win EL and finishes 6th or less
2. We finish 5th and Man City wins EL and finishes 6th or less

I thank you in advance for taking the pain to read my long post:) {Ed002's Note - Points 4 and 5 at the top are incorrect. Bolton or Stoke will qualify for Europa. Liverpool as winners only get automatic re-entry if the FA write to UEFA and request it. Your first example is horribly wrong. For Chelsea not to be in Europe next season they would have to end up 6th or lower and not win the Champions League - it is as simple as that. I have explained all of this yesterday. It is a great pity that as a Liverpool fan you cannot thank Torres for his efforts and wish him well.}

I agree to an extent Ed, but I also reckon the EL is a good platform to play some younger and/ or second-string players as well as the FA and League cups. Come the run in to the end of the EPL, if we have secured a top 4 spot and are out of the title race, it will give the whole squad a trophy to playy for.

LIVERPRES {Ed005's Note - That may be true, but it is a big distraction none the less and I feel it would benefit us if we weren't involved in it next season.}
. . . . . .
Your rite in a way, but the trouble is you still have to play 1st team players then come the weekend there tired.
Also if we were in it the fans would want to win every game, so its easier to just not be in it.

5 top targets for every position starting with most needed and goes from there to the position I believe we're not in need of a transfer

LWM: *Turan, Dzsudzsak, Bastos, Perotti, Elia

also Marveaux will come if he's not still injured in july

RWM: *Sanchez, A.Johnson, Young, Payet, Hernandez

LB: *Baines, Coentrao (LWB), Cissokho (LWB), Santon, Taiwo

CDM: *M'Vila, Banega, Matuidi, Vidal, Gago

RF/ LF/ CF/ ST: *Lavezzi, Gervinho, Bojan, Benzema, Hulk

CB: *Hummels, Richards, Sakho, Cahill, Musacchio

CM: *Sahin, Afellay, Honda, Defour, Adam

GK: *De Gea, Adler, Lloris, Mandanda, Asenjo

RB: *van der Wiel, Castro, Corluka, Richards, Pereira

Favorites of mine put first with a * to mark them. I believe 4-7 of these players will come this summer, all depending on which players leaving and what Kenny and Comolli can put together with the cash from our owners and cash from sales.

LFC for life

Jesus! and how much money are you expecting us to have in the Summer?!

Hey Ed can you tell which position will qualify for europa
and if man utd or man city wins the fa cup and qualify for uefa champs then will the 6th pos qualify?
Also i heard that this time the team who wins europa may also enter for qualification round for uefa champs .is this true. .ed plzz reply {Ed002's Note - 1-4 go to the Champions League. 5 goes to Europa with Birmingham (League Cup and either Bolton or Stoke (runners up in FA Cup. If Liverpool win Europa they will probably be allowed re-entry as an exception - certainly not in to the Champions League.}

Stop. . . .
Not trying to start stupid rumours but the site agent on the site im working on has told me that he has from a reliable source inside of melwood that pepe is almost certain to go to united as he has sopposedly told lfc he wants to go and more disastourous than that apparently kk will not be given job but martin o, neil will be are new manager. if and i say if because im always wary of daft rumours but if this oneil story turns out to be true the me for one will certainly lose faith with henry and co o, neil will be a step backwards and if liverpool even consider doing buisness with the spam i won't be happy the way they carried on with heinze wen he wanted to come to us. i just hope it is some dirty blue nose pulling his leg but he is adament this information is true

welll what can i say?? ?
do you listen to the news, (or is your mate a manc)?
J Henry released a statement saying that a contract is being prepared for kenny , it's only the financial package that has to be worked out, and the pepe thing is nothing new, NO ONE PLAYER IS BIGGER THAN THE CLUB, if he wants to go , thanks and goodbye.
Looks like people have forgotten just how close we were to administration not so long ago when the two texan pirates were in charge. . i for one am very happy were the club is and our strong foundation, there are quality players wanting to join liverpool and on the whole most of the team are pulling in the right direction, skip back to october, players moaning about tactics, and possitions, court cases, bloody hell even blue noses were revelling in our misery.
why are people so quick to attack our new custodians?, a few facts to consider. .
1. court cases etc. . .they could have easilygiven up and just tried somewhere else.
2. Torres wants to go. .swift action by our custodians to replace him with two expensive quality players.
3. roy H , struggling to manage in such a high profile job. . swift action to install KK as manager.

Give them a chance guys, citeh have proven that even with all the cash in the world, you can't just turn a club around in a couple of seasons.

Ed whats happening with Aquilani? will he sign for juve or not, or will he sign for another italian club? {Ed002's Note - Juve are playing tough over the fee because they have Pirlo as an alternative - and he is free. Aquilani's agent is looking for other options - as the player does not want to return to Liverpool.}

Due to birmingham winning carling cup and either stoke or bolton being 2nd in the FA cup, does that mean we HAVE to make 5th to get in the europa league?
cheers {Ed005's Note - Yes, or we could get in by winning the competition. Personally, I don't want us in the competition next year as I see it as too much of a distraction. I say that with utmost respect for the Europa League, but we need to concentrate on trying to get back into the Champions League.}

14 minutes and 23 seconds, this is how long it took me to find out that Taiwo is utter rubbish. His positional play is staggeringly poor. I think Marseille are trying to give him away.

He would make Poulsen look good. Someone forgot to tell me just how awful Marseille are and yet they should be winning.

Bob the Red

As a defender, Taiwo makes Glenn Johnson look like Paulo Maldini.

I have watched the French league a lot this season and i have to say that this guy has been the most outstanding in my opinion. He would be a steel at 5.5m as quoted by the media.

Is any interest in him true ed? {Ed001's Note - doubt it, I think this is the usual case of someone watching a player on the TV, thinking 'he looks decent' and then linking him to us.}

Well it says that comolli watched him on friday night in the French League match so maybe my wishful thinking may not be all that wishfull. (source: GiveMeFootball)

Could have watching one of several players as Marseille were playing Rennes. {Ed005's Note - More likely to be Yann M'Vila than anyone else.}

According to some reporters, man u will have to sell to buy this year due to debt. If they what reina they will have to get rid of a big player, Rooney tried to leave at the start of the year and got a massive pay rise. According to some reports the money he is on is too much and united hierarchy want rid.
