Eds,considering LFC's policy of investing in the best young British talent do you think young McClean at Sunderland would be worth a punt and if so what would you value him at ? B {Ed001's Note - personally no, I don't really value him that highly, he works hard but I am not convinced he has any real outstanding quality.}

I have McClean in my dream team, hasn't scored since i picked him.lol

Since when has ireland been in britain?

Killerpool

Ireland is still talked about as being part of the british isles.

In fact some Jigsaws of britain come with a jigsaw of Ireland attached.

Just want to make a shout out of respect to all those Bilbao fans. That is what football should be about.

I don't even care if it was United. It was great to see the respect they showed towards their opposition. They are a credit to football all across the world and to their country, any team should take a leaf out of their books for what they did tonight. Too much acrimony in today's game. Well deserved win, I hope they go on to lift that trophy.

If there are any Spanish people on this page, especially from Bilbao, you have my total respect. I wish this sort of sportsmanship was seen in the English leagues.

Mr Controversy {Ed001's Note - it would help if you referred to them with a little more respect yourself! Don't worry I amended it for you. Oh and I totally agree with what you are saying, it is what Liverpool were known for in the past. Shame that we are no longer seen in the same light as fans.}

What are you on about Ed001? Haha

BthekingB {Ed001's Note - I would tell you but then I would have to kill you....}

Now im curious lol

Well many people from Bilbao don't like to be referred to as Spanish they are Basque, Also they don't refer to their team is Bilbao, simply 'Athletic' is preferred.

Right you are Eds, that was hypocritical of me. My apologies

Mr Controversy {Ed001's Note - no worries, I thought you would understand.}

Seeing the mancs loosing tonite was no surprise as they had already lost the tie in the first leg

To all of you out there who believe the answer to our problems is to spend many more millions, I give you Atletico Bilbao and Sporting Lisbon, two teams with little money to spend who have stood toe to toe with both of the Manc teams and shown how beatable they are.Lets be patient wait for the team to gel together and who knows what may happen.

Derek

The asnswer at every football club is to spend. SPEND or end up like wigan

Roberto Martínez should have left wigan in the summer, he knew the situation with wigan. He choose to stay at a club doomed to relegation. They don't spend on players. Roberto Martínez could of gone to Aston Villa in the summer.

Manager need think about the short term. take it one season at a time and spend eveything the club has.

There's something to be said for LFC having a Spanish manager mind, cos there's all kinds of talent right through their leagues.
I think Kenny should invite Rafa for Tapas sometime soon !
The Real KB

English players are rubbish unless they are supported by very expensive foreign players. The key to winning then is to buy very expensive players with foreign sounding names.

Rafael "Rafa" Benítez Maudes (born 16 April 1960) is a football manager, who is currently unemployed.

Why doesn't he come back to liverpool as director of football. He would alot better than damien comolli. Rafa bought us some of the best players lfc has seen in 20 years. He bought quality.

Henderson, Downing, Carroll, Adam names don't sound all that exotic. So that is why where doing so poorly.

And some of the worst!

Transfer market is a contact sport, u have buy and sell.

This complete list could be lees than..adam+ henderson+carroll...rafa bouight..alonso, mascherano and torres...did u forget that..now lets admitt..he made Liverpool a super power again..his tragte was..silva, lavezzi, and marinez...but did not had a penny...

That is a BIG list of some seriously average signings by Rafa

cozinoz

Rafa bought 5 or 6 good players the rest were pretty bad mate

I'm not saying rafa was faultless but when you pay peanuts you get monkeys. if he had more money he wouldn't have gambled with these cheap signings

redkenyan

When he had money and he was successful in Torres and Mascherano and even Alonso price at the time wasn't cheap. But then look at Aquilani, Johnson and Keane (if he wanted him or not, who knows) So I'd say that's a 50% success rate when he was given money. Yes he had to wheeler deal a bit and trade up and he did this to some success, but considering the amount of players he bought to do this with it's not the most successful conversion rate.

15 Mar 2012 21:15:17
If Kuyt, Johnson and Suarez all leave. wont we end up with a heartless liverpool team. At the moment, lfc don't function too well without Suarez and Kuyt has always provided running.

Glen Johnson still a great attacking option, i would of said that glen johnson and Luis suarez where our best sellable assets. but i don't think we will get our monies worth.

Glen Johnson £17.5m 27
Dirk Kuyt £10m 31
Luis Suarez £23 million 25
----------------------------
£40.5 million
---------------------------------

We did get a decent priced £8million offer for Dirk Kuyt in january. If we where going to sell him, I thought it would of been then. I can't see anyone paying a decent price for him in the summer.

Glen Johnson could leave for £15million, but we wouldn't be able to get anyone of his quality back into the club.

Luis Suarez could end in Paris for £25million. So really liverpool end up losing out.

I personally think it is shocking a player of Dirk Kuyt quality, has on started 20 games in all competitions this season. last season he started 38 games.

Jamie Carragher had 17 starts this season. season before 34.

We have no reason to sell any of those players, and I don't think any of those players have any desire to leave the club.

Mr Controversy

Glen Johnson cost close to 10m since they owed us Peter Crouch money.

OI WHISKY NOSE! Your boys took one hell of a beating tonight ha! Better hope Man City mess up eh! Otherwise your trophyless this season lol! The league cup doesn't look so Mickey Mouse now does it?? Well you could try and win the FA Cup.....oh wait yeah you got whooped in that too! By who again??.....please remind me lol!

Salford United got what they deserved! Their European record is rubbish! And obviously still is!

Other than that, hope you are all well this evening fellow reds, eds and macca :).

K.Bennett

Old Trafford (the home of Manchester United) falls under the borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester but is a short distance from the Salford borough limits so technically it is in neither.

Win with humility, lose with grace

Well I'm sorry but for the flak I and LFC in general get from United fans I'm entitled to rub it in thier faces just for tonight. If it was anyone else then I would have sympathy as I always want English teams to do well in Europe! However, our pages get infiltrated from united fans spouting their rubbish on a more seemingly increased basis! At least I wrote it on our page and not theirs!

And point taken about their location.

K.Bennett

How many of them where born in manchester? isn't of a local team

They might as well call themselves ABC utd, its not like local people from manchester make it into that team.

Old Trafford is within the Borough of Traffortd for it weas that borough that threatened to reduce the capacity because of MU's inconsideraste fanse refusal to sit down.

Redpath

Lets all player hate on man utd

15 Mar 2012 20:18:26
Llorente isn't a great player, but he seems to be functional like Demba Ba. He'll get the job done.

Andy Carroll walks into a bar and orders a pint. "Thats £35 million pounds please" says the barman. "You've got to be joking?" says Carroll. "Funny thats what i said when i saw you're transfer fee"

let's be realistic here, Carroll is a quality player who is simply down on confidence, likes his beer too much, and being judged by a stupid price tag which wasn't his fault. Liverpool should loan him out somewhere till the end of the season like man utd and give them some bad luck.

You talk about his confidence, yet you suggest he should be loaned out?

What else could you do to lower a guy's confidence, other than strip him of his number 9 shirt?

It is a confidence thing, and he is playing more and more confident week in week out, if you haven't noticed

Mr Controversy

Ed1 correct me if I am wrong gomez had same problems and he was loaned and came back strong so can we try with carroll {Ed001's Note - they never loaned him out, they just stuck by him.}

Ed1 do you rate cavani as I have seen him a lot and havnt seen anything special but it seems our fellow kopites really think he is going to take us to another level and keep in mind his transfer fee is huge. Is he worth that sort of money or i can't see what fellow kopites see {Ed001's Note - whenever I see him play he is poor, so I am not convinced he is worth it myself.}

He likes his beer too much! Lollll!!

15 Mar 2012 20:17:24
People say Kennys tactics suck,but never elaborate,why? I am asking why exactly people think this? Genuinely,havn't ever seen us play this kind of foootball! Granted I am only twenty,so that may be why. But seems unfounded if you ask me,some could somebody enlighten me? Thanks! WelshBoyDave

Also 20 here mate and I've recently been looking over videos of our team's play throughout the last two decades. If I'm perfectly honest, the only other time we've been playing and creating this well were the later stages of the 08/09 season. Unfortunately it seems the older we get, the less patience we have. I see a bright future for LFC and it's a train we should all get on!
NextGenRed

Oh how I wish I was 20!
There would be so many trains I would be on!

15 Mar 2012 20:16:35
Dalglish at both the chelsea and city games last night and tonight any possible players being looked at

I heard that his 3rd clone was at the nou camp finalizing a deal to bring messi here for 35million? Am I not incorrect if I'm telling the truth?

It was a joke...( the post above)...

15 Mar 2012 20:15:12
Hey, where is Eric Banterna and his witty bullsh*t now his team has crashed out of Europe?

Probably playing with the seagulls and his trawler... or whatever he signs off with!

It does annoy me when you hear pundits like Pat Nevin going on about Llorente as a "star of the future" as if he's 21 or something. The guys 27 ffs! Do they know nothing?

Ash

Llorente is at his best right now, he isn't getting better with age.

Pat nevin seems to know nothing about footy and is one of the worst pundits around. I'm sure he's a font of knowledge but you would never guess from listening to him. Not as bad as Garth crooks though. {Ed001's Note - Collymore is the worst, he was talking about fouls and didn't even know the rule regarding it. He should never be befoul the television anyway.}

I genuinely believe almost 20 years of playing championship/football manager has given me a far greater knowledge of players than most pundits out there!

Ash

15 Mar 2012 19:59:28
Just a few thoughts from last nights next gen - why did we have Belford on the bench brill against the spuds.how did we let the pitch have so much grass on it.conor Coady is vastly overrated and was awful last night.ryan McLaughlin looks a great prospect.finally - watching man u spearing is miles better than cleverly .

Don't know if you're being ironic but the pitch didn't have any grass on it - its an artificial surface.

Redpath

Spearing is much better than cleverly when he plays as a center mid aswell

Two points. Athletic Club players and even more so fans, I salute you! And secondly, good luck to King Eric Abidal on his liver transplant. A wonderful player, and a credit to his club and country.

Shall we go all out and bid 50m? Your choice

Better than 35m...nothing doing anything...

15 Mar 2012 19:45:01
eds when comoli said just 1 or 2 adjustments do you think he could of meant only 1 or 2 players but quality players such as cavani, levezzi and so on

thanks {Ed002's Note - No.}

Just goes to show how rubbish un**Ed are, completly played of the park by a team 7th in there league. They are where they are with great help from refs coz in Europe they have no help and there true colours are seen.

Maybe Slur Alex should get sponsored by wrigleys as he must go through 100 packets per game.

A few more goals will be nice lads, come on.

TIZER RED

Hit the nail on the Head Tizer red, United have been given at least 6 point this season by biased refs....Bobbinred

More like 20 points with the decisions city have got screwed

U lot really do clutch at straws - how many points behind ? Then that's how many points the ref can take credit for I guess - no amount if sh1t talk can drag Utd town to ur level - ur no linter on the radar when it comes to rivals - nor will u be under KK - now stop licking those windows and play nice lol

Hate to point out the obvious, but if the Manc clubs are soo bad, what does that say about the teams trailing them in the EPL. We are 24 or 25 pts behind, what does that say!.

15 Mar 2012 19:33:47
Practically the whole bilbao squad is an upgrade. How much would it cost for LFC to buy the starting XI?

15 Mar 2012 19:23:18
How are the mancs top of the league?

They are being beaten to a pulp!

15 Mar 2012 19:16:16
Sky sports and Talk sport always say how the premiere league is the best in the world and the lower teams are getting stronger, watching athletico tonight and the Chelsea game last night, i know they won but there oponents were no mugs, would you not say its our top teams are getting weaker and the rest of Europe has caught up to us, and that's the reason the premiere league has got a lot tighter?
Interested in your opinions guys.

Paul the red

Ahoy - I watched the plastic flag wavers win last night, they did well

But the stand out performer for me was that Dossena fella at left back.

I wonder how much we could get him for ?

A Bluenose friend of mine is a farmer, and last week his first two lambs of the season were born - he has called them Anton & Terry (think about it)

The Liverpool website shows an official document showing Everton changing its name to Liverpool in 1892 - doesn't that mean any honours before that are ours?

15 Mar 2012 18:34:08
llorente's finish's is wat kenny dalglish need in his team right now but dalglish beleived that caroll will be as good as llorente one day
{Ed001's Note - no, he wanted Llorente, he was the first choice but they refused to discuss selling him, Gomez was second choice.}

If Llorente was the first choice and Gomez was second choice, what was their price tag since we have paid 35 mil for the third choice ed? {Ed002's Note - It is not price tag that was the issue - not being for sale was the issue.}

15 Mar 2012 18:05:07
Only 1 minute gone But Buy every Athletico players!!

Thought I'd get in first

Lyndon

Lol. I am surprised I haven't read any "sack KK and get Di Matteo in" calls after Chelsea's big win - or did I miss some?

eds or anybody, what do ye striker is most like fernando torres? eg. higuain,pato,soldado etc
id love if someone as good as him came back to us!

Doumbia is always in the right place at the right time, he can go through 3-4 players and still score abit like Torres in his LFC hey day

MJ

I ment to say what striker instead of do ye striker sorry!

15 Mar 2012 15:15:15
Let me just make a point. We have spent 100 million or so,and re-couped just over 70 I think?! So just dealing in facts now,that's a massive overhaul. But I ask you to think about the squad we had before we spent that money! We will ignore keepers as we havn't changed much in that respect. Defenders,ins,Coates,Enrique,Flanno and Robbo promoted! Defenders out,Kyriakos,Degen! So,again,dealing in the facts,good bit of business,agreed? Midfielders,Ins,Henderson,Adam,Downing. Midfielders out,Poulson,Jovanovic,Cole. I know there are a few more but I'm trying to focus on the senior players. So,starting with Henderson,snapped up at the very start of the window,suggesting he was a major target. He already had two full seasons in the prem with Sunderland,he reminds me of Lucas a few years ago,lacking a little bit of tactical awareness,but that comes with experience and playing in your natural position. For those of you who bothered to check,the only thing missing from Hendersons game at Sunderland was goals,so no suprises there! Moving on. Adam,bought for a modest 7 million,has not reproduced his Blackpool form. However,he still has more assists than anybody else this year,and considering how many goals we have scored,that is no mean feat. I am of the opinion,he was bought for the squad as opposed to the first team per say! Not the player to take us too the prem,but a solid squad player for a modest price! Downing,now he may be the most disappointing. He has plenty of prem experience,and should be hitting his best form at this stage of his career. I'm not going to stand here and say he has been unlucky,because I think you make your own luck. But I would advise you to check the archives on Lfc.tv. Stevie G was delighted we got him,I would expect him to know slightly more than us! He has struggled to settle,he's not 'sh**' and is so eloquently put,he is struggling,nuff said! Midfielders out,God the less said about these three the better surely? Let's just agree the above three are better,okay? So,finally onto strikers,bear in mind that before signing Carroll and Suarez,we had two senior strikers on the book,David Ngog and Fernando Torres. We all know Torres left us in the lurch,and we were hardly going to rely on young David to pull us out of the proverbial s**t! So we bought Suarez as we knew we would,and we overpaid for a highly rated young english striker. I know its a long post but that 100 million was essential to the continued revival of our club under Kenny Dalglish. You can stand there and bi**h and moan all you like,but the truth is,without signing these players,are squad would have been(by far ) the weakest we have ever had! Some players will grow,some will falter,but I have faith that these players will prove us wrong! Probably not all of them,nobodys transfer record is 100 per cent! But let's face it,given the choice,how would you spend that money? And anybody posting Hazard,Erikson,Cavani or Llorente will be immediately dis-missed as a fool,if we don't have the pulling power to sign such players now,why would we have been able to 12 months ago? Sorry for the long post,would love to hear from you guys(preferably posters who sign off?) Thanks for taking the time to read. WelshBoyDave

Great post. Thanks for taking the time to articulate some really sensible and realistic points.
KJS

He's getting Slagged off Nearly as much as Lucas 2 seasons ago

More than likely by the Same People!

Lyndon

Well said mate.let's hope the player bashers read it and think twice before critizing the team

King luis

Great post mate.

Henderson will be amazing for us, Carrol will get better and Adam will be a good sqaud player. Not a clue why Downing's not playing to his full potential, maybe he's lacking in confidence. Im certain he will settle in and produce the same form he produced at AV.
lets just hope its sooner rather than later.

Tizer red

Can't disagree with any of that, great post dave

Top post welshboy, everybit makes for good reading and perfect reasoning.TMac

Great post mate well said

Mickleburg

Henderson is getting slagged off but it's because he's been playing poorly. He clearly lacks confidence and aggression right now. When he plays it's clear he's trying to prove something about himself, rather than playing to win the game as Gerrard or Suarez do. However, I have faith in Henderson to come good, I think he's shown enough quality to justify belief in him. He needs to relax, play his own game and learn his place in the team. It's not easy coming in to a team when there are so many new signings, especially for a player as young as Henderson and especially when the club carries as much pressure with it as Liverpool. He's not performed well so far, that's an inescapable fact. But I think he's shown that he has the potential to grow in confidence and become a really important player in the future

Has Liverpool FC a partnership with Nacional Montevideo? {Ed002's Note - There is an agreement at Academy level.}

15 Mar 2012 13:52:38
Is there any truth in the rumours that Raheem Sterling is unsettled? Looking to move?

Rather than just click on disagree, can anyone care to comment as a reply.
I don't want him to go anywhere, but in the past few days there have been a few links to stories suggesting:

- he hasn't really settled in the area and would prefer to move back to London
- he is getting frustrated about no 1st team appearances, despite being told they would happen last season, so he sees it that people have gone back on their word and he wants to play 1st-team football
- Spurs are aware of all of the above and will bid about £1m for him in the summer, as they wanted him, but lost out to us and are aware that he might be interested to move on.

check the newsnow webite and click on football, then premier league, then liverpool.

It pulls all LFC stories/rumours together from nearly every source on the web. Scroll through and you will see the above story or variations on it from quite a few links.

It's tabloids not having anything to write about and so they make stuff up.

Everyone listing like 8 new players i believe only 3 are needed
Seydou keita
Christian eriksen
Ezequiel lavezzi

And if we ship off carrol then luuk de jong or peter lewandowski

Otherwise with the 3 we are laughin

...................Reina.................
Kelly..skrtel..agger..enrique
.....gerrard...lucas...keita.....
...eriksen...suarez...lavezzi...

Yes and do you really think that both erikson and lavezzi will come to us without champs league, highly unlikely so enough of football manager, we need to buy sesiblely i think we need a CM, STR, RW

im hoping we go and get moussa sissoko for CM, As for the other 2 i just hope they aint over priced and over rated english players i would love to see Soldado come in but i thinjk that is very i=unlikely and de jong is not good enough for lfc

Because erikson is a prolic striker?

15 Mar 2012 12:46:02
We need to play Carroll and suarez together now evry game till end of season if poss!

15 Mar 2012 12:14:13
Not a rumour but a general comment. I've no idea which posters are genuine liverpool fans and which aren't but a lot of people seem to want wholesale changes to the squad. Warren 'uffet is one of the richest men in the world through shrewd investments. He claims, if you want success, you have to invest seriously, including money, time and patience. The same is true in football. Some want rid of Downing, Carroll, Adam and Henderson. Probably the same people who hounded Lucas for 2 seasons. Some chelsea wannabees even call for a new manager. Every new signing is a risk, annual wholesale changes does not lead to success, it leads to inconsistency. We had a lot of changes last summer and hence we have been very inconsistent. Have patience with these players, it will be rewarded.
VOICE OF REASON

Warren Buffet only invests in sure things!!
ie- 20% of coca cola. He buys into the company but then invests non of his own money and as nothing to do with the running of the company.
I doubt he'd have anything to do with Sport

Oh! and he loaned his daughter 100000 and wanted it back in instalments.

Lyndon

Buying poor players ansd waiting for them to become world beaters is not going to work.

If Warren Buffet has a poorly performing invested which he knows is not going to get better, do you think he'll hang on it, hoping against hope that it will somehow become better?

Citeh have has a lot of changes in the squad in the last 3 years

The difference is that citeh bought quality and we did not

The key part of this statement is 3 years, not 12 months! - TMac

Yeah and Citeh still can't run away with the league can they?

Why shouldn't Buffet ask for the money back in instalments, at least he won't charge stupid interest rates that the banks would and save his daughter money in the long run?

Keith

What have citeh won with all the quality they bought

Yes 3 years for Citeh and tonnes of investment - you actually back up the argument for patience - Citeh done nothing in one season ! Give the King 3 years support !

From a post above

The key part of this statement is 3 years, not 12 months! - TMac

How is this key?

do you thinking downing is going to get more speed as a winger when he's 30 in 3 years?

Is Adam going to improve in 3 years

And so on . . .

The answer is NO

Please people if you disagree please tell us how the players Kenny bought will improve

Most of them are limited even JC would struggle to get them world beaters

And we have already discovered Kenny is not the greatest manager, hemay be good at man management but his tactics suck

The longer Kenny stays at the club the more we will stagnate

Yes Kenny has been great but his era has gone

New Manager, New thinking now required

Ok, i will explain how the 3 years is key assuming you've done your homework and cleaned your room young man?

City have spent a lot of money in 3 years, a hell of a lot and only this year have they been able to offer CL football, we spent a fair amount i agree but also recouped a lot too. city bought good players yes, some brilliant (silva) but they have had to pay serious amounts of money and wages to get them, toure is on ridiculous money. We have in 12 months spent net approx 30mil and lowered the wage bill - all good things right? So tell me in their first season did city hammer everyone out of sight? did their team look like a TEAM or a lot of talent that hadnt quite gelled yet? 3 years on they are still not running away with the league, and are still paying the ridiculous wages. I accept Downing is unlikely to become quicker in 3 years however he will have a wealth of experience, he was bought at the time with the second most crosses into the box for the previous season behind baines, which if you plan on having a target man i'd say was a useful stat, he has also been a pretty consistent performer for years now and as far as i am aware not really suffered any major injuries all of which are important factors, Adam at blackpool was superb, yeh he hasnt quite replicated that, but he does still have more assists than anyone else in our team, is a little hit an miss but i see no reason why he couldnt continue to improve, he is only 25 (i think) despite having had a hard paper round. The and so on.... so you dont think a young 21yr old england u21 captain will improve? also i might add i think the previous season created more scoring opportunities than anyone else in the prem, which is pretty good going for a young lad. Have a little patience, Rome wasnt built in a day, and i might ask who would you have bought instead of these players, if your reply contains the words mata, hazard, cavani, llorente, and a whole host of other stars i will sadly have to brand you as "special" because you clearly do not see the wider picture and the impact it has on the a clubs ability to sign players, i would also ask one last thing, do you think we would have been better off with poulson, jovanovic, konchesky, etc? and kid sign your name next time so i know to ignore your ignorant whining.

Andy C

Andy C

First of all I won't be condescending to you like you were to me (Clean my room)

You did not answer the question. How is the tripe Kenny has bought going to improve Liverpool and have us challenging for top homours?

A question is there any implication in your reply that these players Kenny bought are a bridge to better players like what Citeh have done? If so where is the money coming from?

Citeh improved over 3 years by buying better and better each year not waiting for a sow's ear to turn into a silk purse!

Downing had the second most crosses behind Baines when he played for Villa, what has he done for Liverpool? No Assists and and no Goals for him since he arrived?

As for Hendo he may be England Under 21 captain, what does that mean given the poor pool of technically ungifted players in England at the moment?

Yes I will grant you that hendo will improve but will his improvement be enough? Only time will tell? But many have reservations, you are sure he's the real deal?

As for Adam he's unlikely to improve, he will more than likely just get heavier and struggle for fitness as the years pass.

Carroll well he aint gonna be Alan Shearer. Granted he may improve but still not enough to pull us back into the big time.

As for my arrogant whining, well really its just an insult put about by those who can't see beyond their noses, isn't it.

Yes the club has had problems, yes Kenny has had a lot to contend with, yes its only his first seson but he has blown 100M on average players and this net spent of 35M is a joke, whatever way you cut the cake he spent 110M and the only good player he got was Enrique. Bellamy came on a free.

So before you jump on your white virteous horse use the grey matter between your ears.

For the last 20 years it has always been the next season, when is the next season coming?

Kenny's time has gone and like souness the longer he stays the more we'll stagnate.

Andy - not wishing to condesend here but what does yout crystal ball forecast over the next 2 years?? I wonder did you say the same about Lucas & Srktel two years ago, that they weren't good enough, you know, Lucas never be a Masch, Srktel, he;s not good enough. Yet here were are two years on and amazingly they are two of are most consistant and better players!!

You dismiss Henderson and Carroll, two yound players as if they are the finished article after what 8 months and 13 respectively, and that's it they won't get any better, really? I would say there has been an improvement and using your method will suggest both will be around for a while and will be a success.

Again you mention it's been 20 years it has always been next season, have you ever thought the impatience of fans like you who want or demand instant success or if not make wholesale changes that cause this "next season" syndrome??

Finally, just to answer the 3 years comment - it has taken 3 years to build a team to challenge for the title and this with untold riches at their disposal, but don't suppose that matters -TMac

If Lucas & Srktel were not good enough two years ago and now they are fine by the time the new recruits mature to the Lucas & Srktel standard other changes will have taken place in the team and this can continue with good or bad consequences forever. We can be caught in an imobius loop of if only.

If only we have not hit so many posts, if only we scored all those penalties, If ony, if only.

Starting to see a problem?

Action has to occur sometime to break this cycle, if only that was now the road to better days may come sooner?

IF Only

Please, please, please have some patience and think about how far we have come since last season. Kenny must get time, we are on the right path, we can't follow the same model as Citeh as we don't have endless resources, but the timescales will at very least be the same to build a team / squad good enough to challenge. I believe we are not that far away. You could say that our settled back 5 this season plus Lucas, Stevie and Suarez are 8 to match or better anyone in the prem. What 2-3 yrs as opposed to 12 months gives is time to add the other few real quality additions who will give us a starting 11 and bench to match anyone while everyone else fully gels. We are building a squad full of solid potential to back that up, some might even progress enough in the next year to show the real quality that their undoubted potential hints at. It takes time to find or develop all the pieces of the jigsaw and some may not make it, others might struggle for a while and then come good e.g.I firmly believe we won't see the best of Downing until we have genuine width on the right and truly stretch the opposition, no coincidence that he looked a better player at Wembley on the bigger pitch. Personally, I don't care what we pay for players, it doesn't bother me what they cost or if they are over priced or under priced or come through the academy -they wear the red shirt and they will get my support and patience to come good. If in time they prove not to be up to the job then I'll wish them well but they need to be given a a chance first.

Igor Biscan done more than him! Possibly the least creative player ever, because all her ever done was shoot no matter how far out he was and rarely went on target and troubled the goalkeeper, you think he was good simply for his goal against wolves

Sorry, what is the relevance of this post?

hi there, i find it very frustrating being a liverpool fan at the moment with the lack of goals getting scored up front and from midfiled. do you think we will attract descent player without champs league or they will we by just average has been players. one last thing when does the rule come in for fielding some many english players, can you explain. thanks great site

We don't need euro superstars

We just need someone at Liverpool to cast an eye over some players already in the EPL who score regularly, look at Rush he came from chester, Look at Morientes he came from Madrid, who was better?

Lots want Cavani against Chesea last nite he was dire

Still want him?

Hey Ed what happens if Chelsea finish 5th and Arsenal 4th but Chelsea go on to win the CL, do Arsenal lose the 4th spot?

Daniel Rogers. {Ed002's Note - Correct.}

As in the CL spot sorry.
Daniel Rogers.

Would be funny if arsenal lost there place, but its funnier if you think chelsea can win the CL

Funnier things have happened in football. never underestimate anyone.

amar

If they get the right draw, Chelsea have every chance of winning. No defense in Europe can handle Drogba.

Besides a team that can keep the ball from him?

15 Mar 2012 10:07:32
without CL can we attract top players like caviani,soldado,or higuain. those are the name heavily linked with lfc in recent time. SOM

Those names are only linked by the Numpties

I don't rate cavani and I have seen him more then 2 years and not sure he can handle epl for me strikers who will suit the league higuan benzema soldado gomez and soldado can be snaped by us

Deluded - your mid table rivals have as much chance of signing them

Cavani is the best of the lot. 1 quiet game vs chelski doesn't make him carp.

Hi eds, any chance the likes of sterling might get a chance towards the end if the season? {Ed002's Note - See previous answers.}

If you watched the next gen game last night you can see non of the youth team are ready for First Team football yet!

I wouldn't say none of them are ready for a game here and there. Playing in the 1st team with 10 other 1st team regulars is completely different to playing in a team of 11 under 20's. Not for a moment am I saying any of them are ready for a regular 1st team berth, but the likes of Wisdom, Coady, Suso and particularly Adjoran could survive the odd appearance at the moment. On a related note, if only Adjoran had just a wee bit more pace, I think he'd be a potential world beater, but the games i've seen him in, he seems really slow when moving with the ball.

Rugby Parker

I think Adorjan is fantastic in the hole how he holds up play and has an eye for a pass. Give the lad a 1st team chance!

Liverpool have been hammered 3 times this Next Gen series and also were beat by Spurs in the semi finals.. Are some of these kids being overrated by us fans ed? {Ed001's Note - yes, there are some very good kids there but they aren't ready to win us the league.}

They are that good that's why they have not lost, err, wait a minute that's not right!

Are current squad isnt even ready for 4th spot ed.

SP - in reply to your earlier response

I don't, as you put it "bury my head in the sand" and say everything if fine with our club. Far from it. What I do see and believe is the club is moving in the right direction under the current regime and that there is a sense of positivity that has not been there for sometime.

I also think the players brought in will learn from this season and hopefully develop into the players we want them to be. I also hope if we spend in the summer we buy players needed now and not for the future.

With regards the MUFC comment. You stated - What I can't accept is that it is yet another year we are either rebuilding or getting ready for the next season. At some stage 'the next season' has to be the current one. It is something MUFC have managed to do - As I alluded to in my reply, Utd have had a stable platform from which to add or improve their squad without major impact on their success - of course they did have 4 years without winning the league recently, but still won trophies in this time.

Lets be honest here, it took Fergie 7 years to build his squad, not 12 months, unless of course your pointing the blame at FSG and KD for our previous 10-15 years of mis-management?. Hopefully this helps to elucidate my point?

I will stand by my conviction that GJ is ENTITLED to free speech. Maybe as I said the timing could have been better, but HE is entitled to defend, firstly himself, secondly a friend as he see's fit from attack - or maybe you think it would be acceptable to allow people to attack you without recourse?

I will also point out I did not say everything in the garden is rosy, as I have indicated earlier on, it is moving in the right direction, in my opinion, and as for spending £100m, really? So spending £100m but bringing back in £70m does that not mean you have only spent a NET £30m? Or is it a myth perpetrated by the media to suggest LFC are not doing well, despite spending £100m, as saying LFC are in general playing better football, have reduced their wage bill, bought players who want to PLAY for us and won a trophy? - TMac

Add to the spending the outlay on paying off the likes of Jovanovic, Poulsen, etc, and still paying part of the wages for Cole and Aquilani etc.

RedSG {Ed002's Note - Liverpool are still paying Poulsen's wages.}

Nicely said Tmac. Have to say, I like your posts. Nice to know that there are intelligent supporters on here that can put things into perspective. Also, I agree about JG. Timing not great, but I say fair play to him - someone should point out all the hypocrisies in the Suarez saga. Nick.

GJ was not entitled to say anything about the Suarez affair and I totally diagree with your interpretation of free speech. Free speech can damage you and put the names of Theo van Gogh and Salman Rushdie forward to testify to that! As far not sitting back and allowing yourself to be attacked - it was GJ who initiated the comments that allowed PMcG to respond. I say the club's media people should have told all the players (and management) to let the issue die and not comment on it. I have interviewed players on issues like this before and met with a stony silence/can't discuss/move on please comments. I can't keep repeating this - but ask Standard Chartered or FSG if they want this rehashed time and time again in the media. You/me/we as fans may say he was entitled to have his say, but our views don't cut it with the people who invest millions. They look at the damage to the reputation and bottom line.

Don't keep blaming the media for everything you perceive wrong with the way the game and LFC are portrayed. Much of what I hear and read from the media is supportive and respectful of the club. If anyone is scathing about the game and the way players behave - it's me!

I accept your points about taking time to build a side but why do we seem to be 'eternally' building a side and getting ready 'for next season.' Not my words. This is what is said on here and sometimes by the players. You can quote MUFC or any other club but what matters is when we start winning and stop saying such things. It certainly is not KK's fault nor the owners for what you call 15 years of mis-management. But if FSG move on and we get new owners, will we still be saying the same things in five years time. If you use MUFC as a yardstick then it is convenient to note that during the Glazer takeover they continued winning. Yet this is all useless comparison: we need to start winning regularly and stop talking or start producing.

SP

3 league defeats in a row and things are moving in the right direction?

great website. great performance by us on tuesday. but i just want to talk about how bias the people from skysports are. the two people from your on sky sports (jason and clhoe) and the rest of the anti liverpool fans. we beat everton but they just keep talking rubbish about us. who hired these people because they don't deserve to be on tv.

They read what's put in front of them!!

Youve obviously misplaced your paranoia pills pal.

liverpool should try to sign Viktor Fischer he looked a class apart from the other youngsters in the liverpool vs ajax game. thoughts ?

fixby red

Big difference between playing against a very young liverpool youth team and playing in the EPL. He did look good last night, but Ajax would probably expect a high transfer as he's very close to 1st team there. Claasen and their RB looked very good too last night too.

I am a live and die supporter in the states..also happen to be a red sox fan..the notion that FSG are broke is nonsense...staying and renovating Anfield like they did Fenway will work guaranteed. They want to win.

As an American I want to know how Clint Dempsey is percieved. I think he could do a job for us and get 15 goals a year. He would also boost the clubs profile in the states and lead to increased merchandise sales here...I also feel it might be worthwile to look at Michael Bradley. Plays as hard as Spearing with a better scoring touch

Baseball & Football not the same

Dempsey, in my opinion, is class.

I would however be hesitant to him moving here, based on Konchesky's transition from Fulham to LFC.

Personally I have always liked Dempsey, his skill and his never-say-die attitude. A lot of fellow Reds I've spoken to also like him. If we could get him cheap he might be a useful squad player, particularly as Bellamy's fitness is an ongoing worry. I have no idea what the point of the guy's comment about football and baseball not being the same is. I'm not American but fell in love with baseball when I lived for a long time in another country where it's the national sport. As you probably know, English people do not have the faintest idea about the sport. I agree with your comments about FSG, they have been nothing but good for the Redsox and I am sure we are in good hands with them.
-SH-

Do you really think that Konchesky was any good before he came to LFC?

We should have signed Dempsey a couple of years ago, when he was signing a new Fulham contract. We will have our chance again this summer. We should jump on it.

He is the best outfield player the US has ever produced. It's a no-brainer.

Should have signed Dempsey a couple of years ago. Too late now.

Hi Eds and fellow Reds.
Forgive me for asking this question, but I am not a English citizen or resident.

Why is it that more British clubs do not share a stadium.
I think of the Allianz Arena, home to Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich, obviously Bayern are the more successful of the two, commercially more viable, yet both can co-exist in the same environment.
When I think of all the clubs that struggle financially to run and maintain a single venue, surely a shared ground makes sense.
Yes one club might have a bigger fan base and more regular attending fans.
If you had a 60K stadium (ultra modern, fantastic facilities) and on team attracts 60k for their home games, and the other say 50K, surely it still benefits both.
Ground share certainly has its benefits, as it would assist both with operating and running expenses by sharing the costs. From a long term perspective surely this makes good sense!.
Pumpkin Express. {Ed001's Note - because of history mainly, the clubs have had their own stadiums for so long, no one wants to give up their history and share, for one. Secondly, the pitches can't cope without a break in between matches. Thirdly, it doesn't really work, I know a few 1860 fans and they don't like sharing with Bayern at all, they just put up with it.}

Good luck to Ajax in the NextGen series. I forgot just how good their youth set up is.
Scouse_Pride

It was kinda on the cards really, spurs beat us 1-0, had most(5) of their best players out on loan, brought in two under aged players and still beat us!

Whilst the fact remains true - we were beaten by Tottenham, and "thrashed" last night by Ajax, both games need to be looked at on merit, as opposed to simply looking at the scoreline.

We created a multitude of chances against Tottenham, but, be it good and at times lucky goalkeeping, last ditched defending and some horrendous finishing we lost, however, even the most biased of Tottenham fans would admit that we were the better team on the night and should have progressed on merit (commendations, and respect to Tottenham for admitting their infringement and withdrawing from the competition).

Last nights game was a definite case of the scoreline not truly reflecting the overall game. Admittedly we as a team seemed to capitulate after they were awarded the penalty which was duly converted and made the score 4-0, and from then on the "contest" was indeed over, however the same problem that afflicts the first team seems to actual afflict the club as a whole - an inate ability to FINISH!

Had we taken our chances (and inept refereeing decisions aside) we would have been well and truly in the match, but alas, where we missed our chances, Ajax finished theirs with aplomb.

I'm not bitter and I also wish Ajax all the very best in the final, however, sometimes football is a cruel game and scorelines and results can be a misleading indicator.

I hope the boys (because the majority of the team are merely boys), look at the scoreline and instead of dejection gain resolve and comeback stronger for next seasons tournament.

it would be easier to get leighton baines if David Moyes left the club. {Ed001's Note - except that he wouldn't want to sign for us as he is an Evertonian.}

And Enrique's about five times the player Baines is anyway

Red Ollie

We already have a better player who cost less than a third of what Baines would cost... Try to keep up mate...

Thought Baines was very average versus us. Dont see the fuss about him

cozinoz

Baines is actually originally a Liverpool supporter. I do not believe he will be joining Liverpool for one minute, but I think someone will buy him in the summer. {Ed001's Note - not according to him he isn't.}

I would rather have moyes then baines maybe we would finish higher

In January 2008, AFL presented Liverpool FC with another redesign of their 60,000 capacity stadium. This was dubbed "New Generation Anfield" and would seat 72,000 with 18,500 in a single tiered kop, similar to the HKS capacity. The stadium would also include two Wembley-style arches. It would cost £290m to build. Planning permission has not been sought for this project

Liverpool have £97million credit facility still in place with RBS for standium loan. It is thought liverpool need at least £150m to be raised before construction could begin at stanley park.

62-year-old John Henry, he was listed 20th in the recent Football Rich List with a £600m asset fortune. Fenway Sports Group are tapped out. With commitments to Boston Red Sox. They can't rob peter to pay paul

So they are left with only option possible, Stay at Anfield and find ways to increase prices. New corporate boxes, increase food & drink prices and cater for wealthy middle classes. Without new stadium in place. the ordinary fan will be priced out of anfield.

Two major issues on liverpools balance sheet come from stadium revenue, which could be improved by charging more. The other issue is world wide turnover, which is very low for such a well supported club.

Well that's not good news is it, would explain the delays and lack of commitment to the stadium project. Oh dear, its back to the drawing board. Such a pity DIC didn't buy the club, as I am sure a new stadium would be on the way.
Maybe MR Henry's trophy wife is spending all his cash.

And what is the source of this amazing insight into the shelved stadium plans? Absolute nonsense! Raising prices of tickets, food, drink etc. would not bring in the type of revenue needed to compete with other clubs with larger stadiums. Whoever imagined this information must not have a clue what they are talking about.
Not saying the new stadium will be built but I know a company is definitely being consulted to look into taking the AFL designs forward.
Sure FSG will want to make some form of profit from LFC but I'm sure they want to do it through growth of the club and success on the field rather than making a quick buck from average Joe football fan.
Just my opinion... {Ed001's Note - he has obviously just read what happened in Boston, but they can bring in plenty from the stadium they have there, we wouldn't.}

When we make the top 4 next year we'll be playing more matches, big ones, sellouts, there's a little more revenue, and even Europa league next season will help a bit won't it?

Didn't DIC go into financial meltdown?

John henry is worth £600m but FSG as a company are worth around £8 billion.

FSG are not worth 8 Billion

You cannot add up the personal fortune of the investors and say that's 8 Billion we have it does not work like that

The investors are looking for a return like any other investment they make they are not handing over their fortunes so Kenny can buy more ****.
