Hi Eds,

Any chance Danny Ward gets a start at Man Utd?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I haven't decided yet.}

Klopp is a big game manager. I really can't see a loss for us on Sunday. Score draw or we will smash them. He has Van Gals number now. But u never know when shreck is back scoring. Good luck red men. Ps firmino goes my gym haha.

Good evening Eds! Been a while since I've been on here. Hope you're all well, you've done a great job on this page and I see there has been plenty of improvements made!

I've seen rumours surfacing of Shane Long possibly being looked at. Being Irish (hence the username! ) I have a bit of a soft spot for Shane Long. Obviously the goals he scored in Euro qualification helped us get to the Euros, and so he's a bit of a national treasure here nowadays!

Personally I like Shane Long as a player. One of the few players you see nowadays defending from the front. he's the type of player I love to watch and I reckon he'd be a real crowd pleaser. In terms of goals, he's hit a great run of form lately. I see him as a 10-12 goal a season player. he's the type of player we don't have at the moment, one which provides the pace to get in behind defences and could be lethal on the counter attack.

He could be a very useful player to have right now. Maybe not so much in the long term, but until Klopp has time to integrate the players he wants, I think Long could be a very good option. Not the best player, or the most clinical, but a very useful player nonetheless.

Good to be back on here and see the regulars are still here, as well as a new crop of posters. Keep up the good work Ed's!
Cheers,
ROI.

As a huge Ireland fan mate he's def a crowd pleaser and always gives 100%. Sadly that's something that can't be said for a few of our current first team squad. My own personal opinion is he's a better option than some of our forwards but he isn't consistent enough. We have had great Irish players down through the years but don't think Shane is the man for the job. Saying that I didn't think caulker was the man for the job either.

15 Jan 2016 22:04:58
What about Ings?

15 Jan 2016 23:38:24
Ings is very similar.

15 Jan 2016 23:51:04
He's not good enuff and the only foward he works harder than in our squad is Benteke. We can do better.

16 Jan 2016 01:08:48
Shane Long. It's about time we stopped signing average crap and stared thinking big.

15 Jan 2016 20:29:08
Here's a thought for you ed's. You can click on the users profile name and it will show you his/ hers posts and banters. Why don't you do the same with the different ed's? Maybe people will use this function more than the search function?

Have to agree that's not a bad idea at all!

15 Jan 2016 20:06:45
Just a shout out to Kolo Toure who has been really good when called upon this season.

I suspect he may start again this weekend. anyways best of luck to him and the team.

Hope we smash United, we have now lost to them 3 in a row. Time for revenge!

Believable7 Unbelievable1

15 Jan 2016 20:51:15
Kolo hasn't lost a game this season apparently!

15 Jan 2016 21:07:19
Toure was ok. I see fault in two of the goals against Arsenal and may struggle with another game so soon.

15 Jan 2016 23:54:08
Kolo was solid and I don't fault him for any goals because he slipped when Giroud turned him superbly. That happens. Mingo is at fault for both first alf goals especially the first one which almost made me throw up in disgust. Kolo's been solid this season when called upon so hopefully, he can do the job come Sunday.

15 Jan 2016 18:14:15
Eds, any knowledge of what Prem teams could be looking at similar bans to RM, Barca, Atletico? Is Liverpool on that list? Would be sad to see Klopp not have the chance to bring anyone in after he clears out this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - No one is at the moment but a couple are subject to investigation. The investigation started with the teams in the CL so Liverpool were not included.}

15 Jan 2016 22:49:42
Thanks ed2!

15 Jan 2016 18:16:17
Eds fellow reds, just got tickets for 2nd leg semi against Stoke . myself one of my older daughters, and one of the younger daughter (she's a first timer ) and hopefully she will love it as much as she loves playing . do you know how the players arrive under klopp . the younger daughter loves coutinho would love her to see him.

15 Jan 2016 18:28:43
Love it when first timers suddenly end up with tickets to semi finals.

{Ed023's Note - Where did he say he was a first timer? His daughter is a first timer - were you ever a first timer? Have a great time King Luis}

15 Jan 2016 18:35:27
Are you a secret Everton supporter? You sound very bitter.

15 Jan 2016 19:02:03
She's a 1st timer probably be the last with the attitude of you.

15 Jan 2016 19:04:02
U get some morons on here at times. Hopefully she will bring us luck king Luis. Show us the final.

15 Jan 2016 19:18:02
Sergi Canos starts for Brentford tonight v Burnley.
Looking forward to watching the lad after some really good reports about him.

15 Jan 2016 20:25:16
Enjoy your day with your family, hope it's not her last time.

15 Jan 2016 20:34:13
Have a great evening King Luis.

15 Jan 2016 20:52:37
Guess Liverpool has enough fans now, we shouldn't allow any more redsince85?

15 Jan 2016 21:46:23
Yup on reflection my comment was harsh and unlike my self that usually pushes for more youngsters at the game. Apologies to King luis and heres hoping it's the first of many enjoyable experiences at Anfield.

{Ed023's Note - fair play for responding.}

15 Jan 2016 21:32:15
We are all ' first timers '., I remember when me dad took me to my first game. I think we won 10-1. Mc dermott and Dalglish got hat tricks. think it was 79. Anyone know who we played? I was 8 at the time! But yeah, I was a ' first timer'.

15 Jan 2016 21:29:46
Size 10 out ta gob yet son?

15 Jan 2016 22:42:37
I was blind to the sarcasm. doh!

15 Jan 2016 23:39:31
Sure it wasn't Souness and McDermott?

I remember the game but not the opposition, some Finnis/ Icelandic team. Memory fails again 😡.

15 Jan 2016 17:10:50
Good evening all

I think we can stop asking so many questions on signing plsyers now. Ed001 said we are done and Ed002 has said we have a swelled squad over over 40 players when all fit.

Time to support the players we have and see were it takes us until the summer.

I thought it went from english to scottish to indian, he kept everybody on their toes!

15 Jan 2016 17:21:55
Yeah I did think Indian at one point.
Maybe he has multiple accents to go with his multiple sign in names.

{Ed001's Note - multiple accents because he is multiple North Korean monkeys on laptops....}

Money will be found though Ed.
Chris in Tamworth
{Ed002's Note - Ok Chris - then Tiote and Hernandez are arriving if you say. }

Not sure why you'd say that Ed, I don't believe either of those players will be coming and I have no idea who will be but I'll say again money will be found.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - I said it because your were responding about those two players - so I have no idea why you edited the post in such a way. Perhaps in an attempt to make me look stupid. Maybe you should think about the more than 40 members of the first team squad Liverpool has now and that money has already been made available to buy to players, pay to take one on loan and to pay to take one back from loan. It reeks again of continuing financial mismanagement.}

15 Jan 2016 17:58:28
Big ego like your big fish Chris.

15 Jan 2016 19:06:46
I didn't edit that way for any reason, I wasn't saying money would be found for those particular players just that money would be found
Sorry that you took it that way I would never attempt to try to make you look stupid as I would never think that
Do you think it won't be?

{Ed002's Note - For who though Chris - the club has already dipped further in to the hole and are borrowing against the future.}

15 Jan 2016 21:33:44
I'm not disagreeing Ed, I'm aware of the mess we're in financially but as we know in football it doesn't seem to stop anyone.

15 Jan 2016 16:09:15
Was told of, and have now seen, a few reports linking Shane Long with a move to Liverpool.
Long is someone I would have really liked a few years ago, and perhaps still do. He defends from the front, makes a general nuisance of himself and brings other players into the game, which is exactly what we would want from a striker.
Don't see how Southampton would let him leave on loan when he is playing an important role for them right now.

Has anyone else or the eds heard anything on this?

Apologies, as it was a transfer rumour I looked on rumours, and as it was not banter did not look on banter.

Sarcasm may be the lowest form of whit, but after a 12 hour shift in a mind numbingly boring role I must admit that the lowest form of whit is all I am capable of, sorry eds!

Cheers guys, I know January must be a crap month to be an Ed, but it is appreciated.

Hey Eds,
I was very surprised to read a report linking Shane Long with a move to Liverpool. I'm Irish and he's my favorite Irish player and I think he would be great short-term until Ings is back. However, I wouldn't have thought that Southampton would allow him to leave would they? Especially not on loan. Would they? Tell me they would! ;)

Thanks.

It's not April fools day yet! Long is awful.

15 Jan 2016 14:26:15
Jermain defoe would be better choice actually.

15 Jan 2016 14:43:05
Awful? That quite simply isn't true and your lazy assessment isn't helpful.

Spurs reportedly interested as well.
Eds is it possible this move could happen?
Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I truly hope not, as he is only slightly better than awful.}

15 Jan 2016 15:06:28
On his day he's a very good player, but that's 1 every 8/ 10 games.

{Ed001's Note - I think you might have missed a 0 of the end of 8 and 10 there.}

15 Jan 2016 15:21:40
Lay off the paddys ed! 😂😂 he's awful in front of goal, but he wouldn't be a bad shout for a short term, at least he'd work hard.

15 Jan 2016 15:46:12
Like I said in another post, I'd rather LFC stopped their policy of buying mediocre players.
It's time to start buying real quality, we have enough mediocre players on superstar wages.

15 Jan 2016 16:11:42
Long is like borini, works hard, but doesn't have that quality we need.

15 Jan 2016 16:41:54
Your just jealous the brits can't claim him ed!

{Ed001's Note - erm.}

15 Jan 2016 17:21:17
Kyle Lafferty is looking a game! ;-)

15 Jan 2016 17:57:53
Ron your speaking sense. One of the highest wage bills and were 9th.

15 Jan 2016 12:42:56
The Sturridge debate:
Is sturridge the best striker in the league when fit? probably. Should we get rid off him? I think so.

his body is clearly not up for the job and it shows as he has missed more games than he has played. You might argue that he is a gamechanger in the few games that he plays, but he is also taking up a slot in the squad, which means we won´t buy another striker. So would you rather have a sturridge playing the few odd games a year or get another striker who possibly could contribute for an entire season? I´ve got no hate towards Sturridge, but I also think it would be in his interest to get away from football. I know how frustrating it is to be injured and not being able to play footy.

I also think a lot of people are being to harsh on Migs. Yes he makes mistakes, but you have to put this into perspective. Remember Lovren in the BR era, he looked like a league 2 player. Fast forward and he is one of our best defenders (player of the month in december) . What happened? Klopp. When was the last time we had a decent keeper? Reina, and his decline started when Achterberg was assigned. Some of the peeps on this site also says that his warm ups are a joke. I´m not saying that Migs will be a top keeper if we signed a decent GK coach, but it certainly wouldn´t do any harm.

Believable0 Unbelievable12

{Ed023's Note - I'd give him until the Summer of 2017 to prove himself - he is still young. I know wages are the problem and I would understand if the club sell this summer but just my opinion.}

15 Jan 2016 13:22:45
I'm beginning to think maybe half of Sturridge's problem is mental. I think he thinks he will get injured and therefore notices every little tweak or bit of pain. Klopp might have been right about him having to realise the difference between being injured and merely playing when in a bit of discomfort.
I used to play rugby union and I honestly don't think I ever played a game where I could say I was fully fit. I certainly wouldn't have said I was injured but I was aching or hurting somewhere, you just get on with it.
I'd sell him how can he be earning the wage he is and yet in one and half seasons he's played about 12 games. If we keep him I'd say it's a pay as you play deal.

15 Jan 2016 13:35:44
Mignolet was bog standard at Sunderland as well. Our transfer comittee signed him based on stats (he made more saves than any other keeper in the league in his last season) but they failed to relaise his stats only looked good because Sunderland had a shocking defence so he was forced into being more active than most keepers.

His concentration levels are poor though so at a team where he is brought into to action less frequently he is struggling to react when he's called upon. Sunderland were also so poor that teams could just carve straight through them rather than needed to get the ball out wide and put balls into the box. So now teams are doing that against him we're seeing just how poor he is at dealing with crosses. He has always been dodgy from set pieces though, he's never been any good at distribution, I still don't remember him ever making a save with his feet and he is so quiet its a joke. He makes no effort to organise his defence and doesn't call for the ball when he does come to claim it which is why he is forever getting blocked off by his own players and why he nearly punched Toures head off on Wednesday.

Do not try and defend the indefensible. He is the worst first choice keeper in the clubs history and wouldn't play for any other team in the league.

On Sturridge, I agree partially. We should move him on and invest in a more reliable striker of equal or better quality, however he shouldn't give up on his career in football. If I were him I'd go to Italy or Spain where the fixtures are more spaced out and the tempo is much slower. He is still a world class player when fit but he is never going to be fit in English football because it is too extreme on the bodies of the players and particularly under Klopp, he will not be able to play more than once every 7-10 days. He is wasting his career here. He is almost certain to miss the European Championships. Vardy, Kane, Rooney, Carroll, Defoe, Bolasie, Sterling, Walcott etc are all well ahead of him in the pecking order purely because they're fit and scoring goals.

He either needs his training regime adapted to change him as a player (ie. bulk him up and sacrifice his explosive pace for more durability and strength) or he needs to go to another league where he can play less frequently in less physically demanding matches. If he opts to change his game (like Torres and Owen did) in order to play more regualarly he risks losing his quality as a player though, so for his sake he should go abroad.

15 Jan 2016 13:40:58
I'd be tempted to wait til he is fit, in the sense that he has no injuries. Then send him home for 2 weeks, with light yoga style exercises to do. Improve his flexibility and his core strength, improve the strength of all the smaller muscles in his leg (I had a problem with my knees when younger and this helped me) . Maybe look to get him back for the final Months of the season if we have some finals or big games to look forward too. Don't push him now, I doub he will prove his fitness enough to go to the euros, then next season ease him in, and if like ed said, he's not fit by the summer of 2017, sell him.

15 Jan 2016 13:46:40
I think it will be very difficult to buy a player of equal or better standard than Sturridge, for the transfer fee that Liverpool might get for him.

15 Jan 2016 13:58:03
Would not mind Aubameyang if he want to come? He should be more than capable replacement for sturridge.

15 Jan 2016 14:11:51
Although I agree there has to be time when we decide to go another way I think we're still a long way of that. If he's injured no one will buy him so we're paying his wages regardless. I'd say the decision point is this summer, if there's a suggestion that he won't contribute next year then we have to look for a new player to build around.

15 Jan 2016 14:14:50
I think to expect anything substantial from Sturridge at any point of this season is asking for trouble, even though he is taking up a valuable roster space on the team. I think this season will end up being a write-off for him. I'm reminded of Van Persie who spent the good part of 2-3 years, with Arsenal, continuously going back and forth between the field and the injured list. And then when he left, he was able to stay relatively healthy for the better part of the next few years. I think Sturridge's case will probably turn out to be something similar. So the question that arises is, even though his purchase price was comparatively lower, do you continue paying his wages for the next 6-12 months, and then when he has fully recovered, you are closer to the end of his contract and he decides to move on to greener pastures? I'd much rather put more emphasis on undoing some of BR's transfer mistakes (ie. Benteke) . In an ideal world, Benteke would be sold off in the summer, Lacazette would be brought in, Ings and Origi would continue their progress and anything positive from Sturridge would just be a bonus, to spur the team forward and upwards.

15 Jan 2016 14:21:12
Completely agree Irish Rover. Can't see us getting a huge fee for him when he can't stay fit. I think we hope he can eventually come back this year and last through the remainder of the season and next year.

15 Jan 2016 15:07:43
Bolasie is from Congo Ems.

15 Jan 2016 16:01:37
Bolasie is from the Congo, Carroll scored 2 or 3 times and is now out again for months, Sterling and Walcott are both considered wingers for England and Defoe has been retired by the England management, just like Lambert. Lad has enough problems without over-egging them!

15 Jan 2016 16:41:22
I still have yet to see anyone who thinks we should sell Sturridge come up with a reasonable suggestion of who exactly we could sell him to? About the only teams that could afford his wages are Arsenal, United, City, PSG, Bayern, Real, and Barca. Considering he's pretty unlikely to want to leave for less money than he's already guaranteed through 2019, who exactly from the above would buy him?

15 Jan 2016 17:44:03
Sturridge goes if fit imo.

15 Jan 2016 18:39:24
Kloppo is being very sensible with Sturridge.
He is looking for a long term solution and a fit Sturridge could be perfect.
Kloppo is giving Sturridge every chance to prove himself. He may not play again this season, but Kloppo is putting him through his paces in training and if he can cope he will be back with a bang.

Don't expect much from Sturridge this season by it is too early to consider selling him. Without a Champions league we won't get anyone better.

This is someone else's point but I really agree with it, Ibe's got too much focus on him because the first 11 isn't doing as well as we'd like. If our senior players were smashing it then we'd consider Ibe a squad player and be happy with regular appearances off the bench and a few scattered starts, we wouldn't worry that he's not setting the world alight. As we're not satisfied with our seniors Ibe is being viewed as a direct alternative to them and we are judging him to the same standard.

Ibe needs to be considered a youth player, one who will occasionally be great but is very much still learning. Through that prism he's actually improving. He was involved in one goal in 1,304 minutes last season. This season, so far, he's had almost the exact same amount of game time and been involved in 5.

We just need to step back, give him room and let him continue to develop.

Believable12 Unbelievable1

15 Jan 2016 12:43:30
Agree Muscat - he's a major talent but not yet mature and that's to be expected at his age. Some seem to think he's the messiah but he still has a lot to learn through game time before he'll be effective against the very best.

I currently wish he moved a bit more off the ball and made a few more runs. At the moment he's tending to get it in static positions and having to dribble rather than getting in behind.

15 Jan 2016 12:48:49
Well said mate. He is in direct competition with Canos, Kent, Ojo and Wilson. At this moment in time he is top of the pecking order. Ojo, Kent and Canos in particular are hot on his heels but people forget Ibe is only young. He shouldn't be compared to the likes of Coutinho, Lallana, Milner, Firmino etc just yet.

He needs to be managed. At the moment he is clearly lacking confidence to go past his man so he needs to be taken out of the spotlight and then brought back into the side when the team is doing well. That will take some pressure off of him to perform and allow him to come out of his shell. Somebody else made a good point about how Rodgers playing him as a wing back has caused him to lose a bit of that natural flair. He needs to get used to the fact that he is now playing in an advanced role and if he loses it he has time to get back and there is a full back behind him to cover; as under Rodgers he was the full back so taking risks was out of the question.

15 Jan 2016 13:25:58
Couldn't agree more, the lad has far too much pressure put on him. He is young and should be allowed to be inconsistent as he is still learning his trade. From what I have seen his attitude is right (working with Kenny in the summer to improve for example) . He should be given time used rotationally in the team and allowed to develop. I think the same is true for a few others Can for example, he is only 22 so again he is still developing as a player.

EMS, glad we're on the same page about something. My post above started as a reply to the other thread, I'm not sure how it became it's own thing. Ignore the Wing back stuff, that's a massive red herring, Ibe played the majority of his games as a straight winger under Rodgers. Saying he was held-back suggests that Ibe isn't doing well and that's not the case.

15 Jan 2016 11:48:34
Hi Ed01, I was wondering what you think of Lucas' current situation? Early indications are that he's the one who's made way for Henderson's return. Do you think Klopp considers him a squad player or that he's just testing different ideas?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - bit of that and a bit of wanting different types of players for different matches. Gone are the days of there being a team of 11 and reserves. Now we have a squad of about 16-18 that are the pool to pick from plus fringe players for when there are injuries or loss of form. Lucas is in the first squad, but he won't play every game. His experience is vital right now. You can see how much Klopp trusts him, by the fact that it was him that he chose to drop into defence, rather than someone who has played centre back a fair bit in Can. Having said that, I do expect Klopp to look for a replacement in the next couple of windows, as his injuries have robbed him of a bit of pace.}

Swallows an summer.

15 Jan 2016 16:24:31
So you didn't like him before and one performance has changed your mind? Oh dear.

15 Jan 2016 10:04:08
Eds is there a chance of calling our Nigerian young striker from loan in Germany? as our striking poor form and injuries continues.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - No. He is not ready for the German second division just yet and is not allowed to play for Liverpool. Liverpool, with all of the recalled players, are yet again a bloated squad of more than 40.}

15 Jan 2016 10:16:25
He needs a work permit doesn't he?

15 Jan 2016 17:36:43
He barely makes the bench for fsv in the German second division and when he does he I never used. It look like the lad has a long way to go before being considered for our first team squad.

15 Jan 2016 10:03:59
i was talking to my bro last night about Klopp and since he took over and why we have had some ups and downs and been really unlucky with the injuries. It is also nice to be linked with top players thinking we can get them now, where before if we where linked with the likes of Gotze etc we would of just laughed it off.

Hope the boys turn up on Sunday and get United back for earlier in the season. YNWA have a good weekend lads and ladies.

To "Kev in skem" I mentioned a few weeks back that Joe could be back in training in a couple of months, aiming for around mid March, he also said Ings is recovering well I don't know a time on him I still reckon pre season.

Hi Eds,

I have seen that Taiwo Awoyini has not been getting much game time in Germany and I was wondering what he plans are for him. Can Liverpool recall him?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Right now the feeling is that he is not yet ready for the second tier of German football where he is on loan. At his age the club should really have him on loan at a much lower level of football. The club cannot recall him to England of course - I don't know if they could seek a loan somewhere more appropriate.}

15 Jan 2016 01:00:24
Ed2 i know your going to say were not interested but wondered whos interested in Breel Embolo. Personally see him as a special talent.

{Ed002's Note - Try the European pages please Dorset.}

I see a report in the papers that Derek Langley is to leave Man Utd academy as he's not happy the way things are going and is disillusioned. Not saying Liverpool will look to him but I was of the opinion he was well thought of in what he does and was wondering if any clubs had shown interest? I also want to know would he be an upgrade on what we have at present?

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - why? What players have come through the academy in his time that suggest to you he was doing a good job?}

15 Jan 2016 07:53:07
In all honesty I can't think of any and I don't really know anything about youth setups in other clubs or how they get young players. i based my opinion on what I have read and it's not meant to be fact, that's why asked would he be an upgrade on what we have. I never said go and get him but merely wanted an opinion. Go back to bed Ed01 and get out the other side. 😂😂.

Of anyone was or is wetting themselves over spurs and there academy players we already have one of the main people who set all that up for them Mr Inglethorpe 😊.

Morming Ed001

Do you think we've done our little bit of business now in this window and that will be it until the summmer mate or maybe were not done yet?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as we are struggling for bodies right now, due to injuries, it is unlikely we can offload much, so we are likely to be done. Though I wouldn't rule out a a few youngsters for the youth sides or to go out on loan before the summer.}

15 Jan 2016 08:08:53
Ok mate cheers for that. Bit disapointed tbh but i guess we do have a big squad when everyones fit.

15 Jan 2016 05:18:18
With us looking for a solution to our attacking problems and with it looking very likely that Pato is heading to chavski what are the eds thoughts on Hyuri? Young, quick, talented, proven finisher, flair. Seems just what we need and would be cheap (in comparison to others) .

TDH.

{Ed001's Note - the Brazilian that just moved back home about a week ago?}

15 Jan 2016 07:25:19
Ah, must've missed that! Doh!

15 Jan 2016 01:01:18
Ed1 wherr does the club see Joe Gomez playing next season? Challenging for a cb position or used as cover all across the back.

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - he needs to return to fitness before that can be addressed mate.}

15 Jan 2016 00:12:30
Good podcast guys, Harry was fairly coherent. One thing I think you guys missed when analysing Arsenal's third goal was the run in behind from Ramsey which occupied Sakho and obliged him to close that space in behind him; the main reason for the chance I think. You could argue toure should have got a bit closer, but as Ed001 said sometimes you just have to accept what was a fantastic touch and finish from Giroud. I also agree with the 'man on the post' arguement for the first goal, however Mignolet should have saved it comfortably in my opinion.

It was awful defending and brilliant attacking.

well I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I have just listened to my first podcast. top job guys, I love listening to people's views on lfc instead of the same dribble sly spout. top job guys well done all 3 of ya.

{Ed033's Note - that was the 12th podcast from football rumours and there's more to come.
