Yesterday in FA Cup. Southampton played Ipswich. Two teams doing well. Mick McCarthy has got Ipswich playing very well, they spent pennies on players.
I am not sure how much Southampton spent, but even after selling some of their top players ; Ronald Koeman has them playing very well.

My point is that it is not always necessary to spend £120 million on players when one has a good management team.

IMHO Liverpool do not have a good management team.

Finding one that suits the club can be difficult.

Believable2 Unbelievable8

Did you consider Mick McCarthy and his assistants a good management team when they were getting tonked every week at Sunderland and Wolves?. thought not

Plus, Koeman hasn't been a roaring success at every job he's had.

And I don't recall you coming on here last season complaining that we had a bad management team when we were playing the best football Anfield's seen for decades.

You're just looking at teams who are doing relatively well at the minute and using it as a stick to beat Liverpool with. Which is all you seem to do on this site.

Agree19 Disagree4

15 Jan 2015 22:34:59
Ipswich were abysmal

Agree2 Disagree1

Spot on mate; people go on about all the big name managers being amazing but how many actually coach and develop players and don't spend fortunes?

I mean, isn't this their job?

Agree3 Disagree1

Stop looking at other teams because those teams were supposed to fly under the radar and if you are comparing the level of expectations btw playing for an institution like LFC where the many have crumbled under the weight of the shirt alone, with the more modest expectations at these clubs then that alone shows your level of ignorance of the dynamics behind pro football.

Evening Eds

Why do you think we are sling Ibe back from Derby? Is it just for cover and too get on the bench or would you think it has any baring on outgoings or Origi not coming in?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

15 Jan 2015 19:57:14
I can only assume that the return of Ibe means less game time for Gerrard, Lallana's injury may be long term (couple of months maybe) and that one or two of Borini, Balo or Lambert is leaving us. BennyC who is always spot on with the team has said Gerrard has been dropped again so it looks like Rodgers has finally grasped the concept of resting him (or like Lallana his injury is also worse than first expected). Markovic, Sterling, Ibe and Sturridge will give us so.e real pace in the second half of the season which should help the likes of Coutinho, Henderson, Lallana, Gerrard etc as they all love playing passes in behind or at least for people to run onto. Lambert and Balotelli would be my gueses to leave seeing as Borini is probably starting again tomorrow (btw BennyC if you ever get it slightly wrong, don't let the abuse stop you posting it. You clearly have a legit source and most of us understand that things can change last minute) so it looks like Fabio is going to get a few more chances.

I really hope Ibe gets regular chances here though. Mych better idea to recall him than Origi. I imagine it cost less and he knows the English game and is in much better form.

The beauty of Ibe to those who haven't seen much of him is that he can play any of the front 3 positions to a high standard. It's not his best position, but he can also play in the hole. Really looking forward to seeing him play though. I hope he makes himself undroppable! I'll be annoyed if Rodgers doesn't make the most of him though as he was getting regular game time at Derby, playing in a team with a winning mentality, whilst being well managed in terms if pressure/hype by McClaren. Don't Brendan him!

On a side note lads, does anybody watch Southampton this season and think we may have bought the wrong centre back? Fonte is so consistent. Perhaps he made Lovren look good and not vice versa? By all means debate this because I'm not sure whether its just a "form is temporary, class is permanent" thing and that Lovren will prove it in the long run. Just interested to know if anybody has a more specific opinion on this. Ed001/2 maybe? Or any Saints supporting Eds if you're out there?

Believable7 Unbelievable8

I'm a big critic of Brendan, but if BennyC is right about the lineup - I'm glad to see that it is looking a lot more positive.

This line-up is one with players who, imo, should have been playing on merit a lot earlier. Better late than never, I suppose.

I have great faith in Borini as a central striker - and I'm excited about seeing him there with Sterling and Coutinho in support.

Balotelli has been given more chances in 3 months than Borini has in 3 years - and it's about time that Fabio got a run in the team.

I wonder is it going to be more of a 352 such as we used under Roy Evans, rather than a 343? Can't wait to see.

Also, no Gerrard at DM again. Excellent! I worry every time his name is on the team-sheet, just in case BR goes back to that dumb idea.

Maybe the penny has finally dropped!! Our season could be saved yet - but with BR in charge, I wouldn't count on it.

If he can't set up this team to beat Villa - he should be sacked. Our players are vastly superior to theirs.

Watch this space.

:)

Agree11 Disagree6

Lallana's back for next week.

Agree3 Disagree1

Why do people want Lambert to leave? He came knowing his role in the squad and is a player that will keep his professionalism at all times. Silly to move him on

Agree12 Disagree2

If he can't set a team up to beat Vila he should be sacked? What, like Chelsea a few months ago.

Grow up will ya.

Agree3 Disagree8

Although I would not put it like zinedine I agree that we should be beating a villa team that has only managed to score 11 goals all season and lost their last six games.
Likewise Chelsea should have beaten them too' but alas to err is to be human.

With regard to attacking zinedine i'm sure he has reasons for his opinion whether he formed it by himself or follows popular opinion on this site. Brendan sending a team out to lose against real was the last straw for me, and people trying to brow beat posters for having a different opinion is starting to really wind me up.

Agree7 Disagree3

That's good news Big red!

Agree2 Disagree1

Forza where did I say I want him to leave? Haha. I am just guessing that he might.

Agree1 Disagree1

Walton.

Chelsea are top of the league.

They are also managed by Jose Mourinho.

Grow up, will ya.

Agree5 Disagree0

John Barnez, 'if he can't set up this team to beat Villa - he should be sacked' feel free to defend this comment.

I replied to a specific comment that I thought was moronic, hardly brow beating.

The ammount of attacks, both personal and professional, against Rodgers on this site is a joke. Those defending him are the ones who are regularly 'brow beaten' on here.

Agree2 Disagree5

15 Jan 2015 23:36:55
Do agree with forza red in that think Lambert got a bit of a raw deal! He was clearly meant to be our 3rd choice striker who offered us something a bit different to rest players and off the bench.

Isn't his fault our transfers got completely messed up and had to essentially be used as our main striker is some of our biggest games this season! If used as a 3rd striker is a great option as is a decent player who knows the league and Tbf would probably only be around for 2 seasons, giving time to bed in our very young strikers (Sinclair, origi, yesil) by taking pressure off them and providing cover when needed. Fact he ended up playing about 5-6 games in a crucial 3 week period is just an example of how wrong our manager/transfer committee got replacing suarez

Agree3 Disagree1

Also, Walton.

Your response is so personic I don't even know why I bothered replying.

I'm a little tired of writing essays to explain the most simple concepts to people like you who write two lines and think they have something to say.

I have explained my views in detail on Rodgers - and a failure to beat Villa would be the latest in a long list of BS decisions from him.

He should already be sacked - and he will be by the end of the season - so I want you to remember that when you come crawling back in a few months.

As far as I'm concerned - you have nothing remotely intelligent to offer - so talk to someone else.

Glad to see that posters like John barnez recognise that I may have reasons on why I hold such strong opinions - but then, he's clearly using his brain to think. (cheers btw)

You can read my views on Rodgers all over the site if you want - then try to construct a critical response to my views that is longer than two lines - rather than writing insults like a child.

I suspect I'll be waiting a while.

:)

Agree6 Disagree2

Finally, Walton.

I didn't say 'he would be sacked' if we fail to beat Villa. I don't think they would sack him if/when this happened.

I said 'he should be sacked'.

There is a difference. (IMO obviously)

Learn to interpret words correctly.

Apologies if English is not your first language btw.

In that case it's understandable.

Forza Lambert should leave cause he's lazy (well it certainly seems that way) and he's not good enough, get rid of him while there's something to obtain from his transfer, I'd sell him for 1 mil if I could, honestly. Just because a player loves liverpool, that should not be the determining factor if he's good enough for the ckub or not and sadly Lambert's not good enough

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - if you think he is lazy, then you really aren't watching him play.}

16 Jan 2015 07:43:02
So Zinedine, City should sack Pellegrini because he drew with QPR and Burnley. City is far superior than both teams.
Mate please stop talking you embarrass yourself.

Agree0 Disagree4

If only football was so simple as picking a side and then they do everything you ask of them to the letter.
We should beat Villa. of course we should.
We only have a problem with Villa at Anfield due to their pacey counter attacks.
They will employ the same tactic at home this weekend without doubt.
We need to score the first goal.
The crowd will turn if we score first.

Agree0 Disagree0

I am not sure we are playing Borini for any other reason than we want to sell him in this window.
I don't understand this logic.
I don't buy that Rodgers is suddenly going to give him a run of games.
Shop window.
Which is bad considering we need to win all our games.
Surely any potential suitors know what Borini can do already?

Jordan has Ibe been recalled from Derby early despite being cup tied in both the FA cup and League cup. Does this mean we will not try and get Origi early or are the two not related ?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Believable10 Unbelievable0

15 Jan 2015 18:40:36
Chuffed to bits if Jordan is coming back, he shouldn't have been sent out on loan in the first place.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

Who will he replace?
20m £ Markovic
25m £ Lallana
Gerrard
Sterling
Coutinho

He should have stayed with Derby and gained some experience.
As he is cuptied I doubt he will get much playing time.

Agree9 Disagree1

Balotelli and borini are the two you conveniently missed out that he will replace

Agree7 Disagree4

I conveniently missed them out as they are benchwarmers. He is a attacking midfielder/winger. Either way, he will replace Balotelli or Borini on the bench. I would rather having him playing as much as possible.

Agree3 Disagree1

15 Jan 2015 20:39:28

Agree4 Disagree0

16 Jan 2015 08:14:18
Well we have 3 AM's in Coutinho, Gerrard and Lallana who struggle to stay effective for 90 minutes, and that's with one game a week. He should get plenty of sub appearances in place of all, rather than doing what we did last weekend - move the entire team around to take off one player (taking off Gerrard meant a different CB lineup, a different CM combination and different players linking up behind the striker. 1 change)

Sunderland offer £14m for Borini. He rejects it. Jermaine Defoe signs for Sunderland! Who wins? Not Liverpool!

Believable7 Unbelievable1

Borini to Sunderland only would have given Rodgers 14 million to blow. It was a lose lose either way. I still think Lambert was a shocking signing. Made and still makes no sense. If you are going to buy a 30 plus Liverpool fan why not me? i'm a cracking goalscorer. Row z would have been also refurbished

I know I said I wasn't going to post anymore, but I was trying to type and work at the same time and I just felt that I didn't get my point across regarding the integration of academy players into the first team.

First of all you have to look at all the players currently in and around the first team to see the depth in each area. If you look at the depth in each individual position it will give you a better understanding of why our youth players aren't getting a chance. I mean, how are the likes of Jack Dunn and Jordan Ibe supposed to get a chance when they have 4 senior strikers ahead of them and another promising youngster (Origi) arriving in the summer?

Then you have to look at the transfer policy put in place by FSG. This is a quote by John W. Henry regarding his vision for the club, "We are not just looking at the next 16 weeks until we can buy again: we are looking at the next 16 years and beyond". I would take an educated guess and say that those involved in the committee have been given a player profile criteria which they have to abide by when deciding on transfers. The criteria probably states that transfer targets must be young with potential, preferably in and around the first team at their current club. This would explain why 15 of the 21 players signed under Rodgers were all under 25 years old when they joined the club, with the majority aged between 18 and 22. It is around the age of 18 to 22 that you would be expecting academy players to be breaking into the first team, but again, when are our youth players going to get a chance when we keep stock piling players?

I understand the long term vision set out by FSG, and I am a fan of the idea. However, if we are going to find the right balance of top quality and youth, we need:
a) A starting XI that are good enough to challenge for trophies.
b) Youngsters who will challenge the starting XI for a starting place.
c) Gradual integration of youngsters by the manager.
d) A structured loan system for players who aren't yet ready.

As harsh as it sounds that means getting rid of a lot of players that aren't cutting it. Players such as Mignolet, B.Jones, Johnson, Enrique, Toure, Gerrard, Allen, Balotelli, Borini etc because it is players like these that are blocking the youngsters from getting a chance. Of course we need some top quality players but only 3 or 4 top players are required in addition to the quality we already have. The rest of the squad should be built up of young players, both academy graduates and young signings by the committee.

A question I would really like to ask is, at what rate would integration of academy players be acceptable to you? Would one or two players breaking through per season be acceptable or are you hoping for five or six? Personally, I would be more than happy with two or three academy players breaking through per season and giving the first team some real competition. I just think that it has to be gradual to have a positive effect. You cannot throw in five or six youngsters and expect them to win games, you need to find that right balance of quality and potential.

Red Rum

Believable10 Unbelievable0

Good post I agree with 2-3 a season.

Agree5 Disagree0

The decission not to let the youngsters play in the Cup really baffles me. I understand that BR is in need of some success, but no matter what he does, he is almost deemed to fail. If we lose and he uses academy players, there will be questioning of him not using regular players vice versa.

I totally agree with you, but for the most of the season we have been inconsistant, and I don´t believe academy players is the answers for this kind of problem.
If we had played well this season, and getting a decent lead, then give them some sub appearences. If that pays off, then great. There shouldn´t be put any pressure on them, because it will affect their game and confidence if they don't live up to the expectations. I think this is partly the reason why "the next Messis" or "the next Ronaldos" never lives up to their hype - They can´t handle the pressure.

I would like to see Ojo, Sinclair and Rossiter getting some chances this season.

Agree2 Disagree0

I would want to see 8-10 getting chances. Currently: Ward, McLaughlin, L.Jones, Smith, Williams, Rossiter, Ojo, Phillips, Wilson, Sinclair and Yesil.

However, I would never have more than 2 on the pitch at once in a Premier league game and I'd try and use two who play in different areas so as not to create a large area lacking experience of physical presence. For example by giving Smith and Yesil a chance one game and then McLaughlin and Ojo in the next.

You should utilise more than 2-3 academy prospects a season, but throwing them all in at once is suicide against Premier league and CL opposition.

It needs to be managed. Give the kids a sustained run of games in spells so not to burn them out and never throw in too many at once. They should all be used as squad players though and to cover short term injuries.

2-3 getting a chance a season isn't anywhere near good enough. However anything above 1 a season cementing their place as a regular should be the target. You can't expect all 8-10players to be good enough but If one or two are then boom you've saved yourself £20m.

Agree4 Disagree3

Defo, EMS. Boss post.

No other way we're going to see who can cut the mustard, if we don't give them the chance.

And, as you said, the more we try (over a season in 'bit by bit' involvement, if you like), the more likely we may see those extra special 1 or 2 cementing their place in our starting 11?

Do you think that maybe they're not rated as highly as we think though?

I mean, is the reason they don't get a chance solely down to our manager being so stubborn and clueless?

I know the answer is probably 'yes', unfortunately, but still find it hard to believe that BR watches these kids but still doesn't have any faith in them.

Ed 1, do you know for instance, how highly rated are the youngsters EMS mentioned (by BR, as ultimately this is all that matters at this present moment)?

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he claims to rate them really highly, it is bizarre that none have been given a chance, he just doesn't seem to have the bottle to give them a run out unless forced to. Other than the odd sub appearance.}

15 Jan 2015 17:47:19
If Brendan played youngsters then people would still moan if the results didn't go our way.

It's difficult for him anyway when his players haven't performed to expectations and he's clinging on to his job.

Think about it as many of us wouldn't have the plums to play the youngsters in the position we're in, including myself.

Agree2 Disagree1

Thanks for the reply ed.

I suppose he's put himself in such a position now due to our lame start, that he's worried about playing them and them not really helping us?

Too much pressure for them and all that, or is that being too kind to him?!

Just sad, because this (along with a lot of other stuff) is going to cost him his job.

If he would have blooded loads of youngsters into the squad, the fans would have possibly been a little more lenient to him?

Tbh, just scratching the surface though; so much is a mess here at the minute.

Agree2 Disagree0

There are too many senior players at the club, so how can we play the kids?

Maybe this kind of thing should have been thought in the summer by the manager and the Transfer Committee.

Agree2 Disagree0

Why get rid of toure? I know his contract is running out, but I hope he gets a new one

Agree2 Disagree1

15 Jan 2015 19:03:58
Not sure Kolo will get a new deal; might depend how Ilori is progressing .

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks staples.

AG, Staples and Bobatron, agree with all of you 100%.

Sadly though Bob I think Essex is right and wrong. I doubt Toure or Ilori will be here next season as I don't see Toure getting a new deal and if I was Ilori I would want out after how he's been treated. Too many bridges burned.

Its not what I would do but I think Lovren and Skrtel will be our first choice pairing next season barring any major signings because I can't see Sakho wanting to stay either; especially not if Rodgers manages to hold onto his job.

Agree2 Disagree0

Probably right there mate; would love Ilori to stay and get a chance but doubt that (unless BR gets sacked?)

Ideally, I'd keep Toure for one more season.
Think his experience would help Ilori and Lloyd Jones step up for the future.

To complement this we'd have Sakho and Lovren, who I'd make my first choice pairing (I know, they're both left footed, but Lovren can and has played RCB too).

This would mean selling Skrtel and Coates, and I'd bomb Johnson and Enrique too (and send Manquillo back).

We'd have Flanagan and McLaughlin (and possibly Wisdom) for RB and Moreno and Smith for LB.

Sounds pretty good to me?

Agree2 Disagree1

Skrtels staples, he ain't going to lose his job. I'll stand by that statement, with good reason. He'll get at least 'til next xmas as far as I am aware.

Come back and pull me up on it if i'm wrong. But as i'm not, please stop talking about it as if it's a given.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree that all youth players should be given the opportunity if they have shown they are ready in training and I do believe we have the quality there for 2 or 3 players to cement a place in the squad per season. Some will make it, some wont, but unless they are given that chance we will never know. For me this season is a write off in terms of integrating youth players. We need to move on a lot of senior players who don't merit a place in the squad to make way for our youngsters, and that includes ageing players such as Lambert, Gerrard and Toure. Sometimes you wish to keep players out of sentiment, but in doing so you are neglecting the hard working youngsters who deserve a chance to shine. First of all though, we have to make sure we have a starting XI that have the quality to challenge for silverware, then we can look at integrating youngsters.

Red Rum

Agree1 Disagree1

I think we'd be daft letting kolo and Ilori go. we'd have gone from having 74343 centre back to having 3. Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren.(possibly wisdom if not rightback) Having sold Kelly, coates likely to leave, agger gone, kolo contract expiration and selling Ilori.

I would honestly slam my head against a brick wall repeatedly if that's how this summer is going

Agree2 Disagree0

@skrtels staples, agree with everything there and would like to keep Toure, send manquillo back, sell skrtel, Coates & Johnson out of contract, sell Enrique.

Still have plenty without even purchasing. I'm unsure about smith but if he didn't cut it we'd have cover with Flanagan and can.

Also like 2 weeks ago Markovic started on the left and Rodgers had both Enrique and Moreno on the bench - one of the stupidest things I've seen. He should have left one out for a young attacker or something giving an option at least

Agree0 Disagree0

Just don't knock the wall down Bob because I'll need it when you're done!

Is jordan ibe being recalled from loan

Believable1 Unbelievable1

Very poor decision to bring Ibe back now imo. Why not let the lad enjoy his football at Derby and play regularly without too much pressure on his shoulders? Same goes for Origi. Neither will be a regular starter for LFC this season, and it would only hamper their development. Or maybe there is going to be a mass clear out of some of the attackers at the club like Borini and Lambert. That is the only reason why Ibe should be recalled, otherwise let the kid stay where he is for now.

Agree2 Disagree2

To be fair Ibe and Origi although quite young could both boost the squad in I would be happy if we recall those and found a good keeper to join weather its a loan or what

Agree0 Disagree2

Dezyboy2, we have enough squad depth. Neither Ibe nor Origi will make the match day squad when all the front line players are fit. Sturridge, Balo, Sterling, Markovic, Lallana will definitely be ahead of them in the pecking order and i have not even included Lambert and Borini in that list. There are too many players at the club with no purpose served whatsoever. If the club can get rid of Lambert and one of Borini or Balo now, then yes, i would be happy to see Origi and Ibe recalled otherwise its a lose-lose situation for all parties involved.

Agree1 Disagree0

Buzzer i'd like to think we would bring them back to play them not to play under 21 football
Doubt they'll be brought back to not play

Agree0 Disagree1

I agree with buzzer, I really don't see how ibe is going to get the playing time with what we currently have at the club.

Agree2 Disagree0

Do any of the eds think its a good decision bringing him back

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - so long as he plays, yes.}

I have to say when I have watched Ibe at derby (early saturday kick offs etc) I felt he needed to play for a better team. on a multitude of occasions he's looking for a run into the space and they aren't giving it, or he's making a 20 yard sprint to draw away a defender for a clear path for the striker and he passes it out wide. I don't think any of the Derby players are on his wavelength at all. He's looking 3 moves ahead of their 1. He often passes it to Will Hughes, I'm guessing so that will can pick out a pass to him going forward.

If we're bringing him back to play him, or put him on loan somewhere else I am happy. If it's the bench though, I feel he might as well stay at Derby, but I'm not seeing any progression from what I saw in friendlies apart from the realisation maybe that he can't beat everyman

Reading that Berahino post reminded me of a question I meant to ask:

What sort of freedom do players have now regarding their "free time"? Are they free to say go out for a few drinks etc or do clubs expect them to stay professional and watch their intake etc.
I remember reading an interview with Razor a while ago about the Liverpool drinking habits "win draw or lose, you booze" and I doubt this is still the mentality in the modern game.

Leaving players at either end of the scale off, because i know there are many players that take their fitness very seriously, specially those aiming to extend their career as long as possible (Lampard, Giggs etc) and there are those who act like persons (no names).

Just curious, a friend of mine saw the Arsenal team at a club for their Xmas party and said none were visibly drinking., but then its unrealistic to expect players to be teetotal for 9 months of the year isn't it?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs don't stop players drinking but they are expected to be responsible.}

I have just saw his four goals in the cup. Conference opposition or not, all four goals are top class. We may not have 20M to buy him but if any big team has 20M this is a bargain. In a year time it will be at least 30.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - WBA have asked Spurs for two players in exchange for him.}

I went to watch John Bishop at the Echo Arena on the 18th Dec and saw Lambert, Lallana and Skrtel in one of the private boxes enjoying a few beers.

Personally would love to see Berahino in a Liverpool shirt. I think a lot of the rumours about his attitude are blown out of proportion and I see him as a carbon copy of Sturridge. Remember everyone thought Sutrridge had attitude problems before he moved to us.

Agree0 Disagree1

15 Jan 2015 14:44:31
I think I am severely out of the loop if a player who has had a good half season and is considered a bargain for £20m?

As for judging someone by goals scored in one game watch Aspas' 4 minute hat-trick against a low league team.

Though if we sell lambert and mario to buy berahino will we officially have the shorted BPL squad?

Agree3 Disagree0

Why always Spurs ?!

Agree1 Disagree0

''Remember everyone thought Sutrridge had attitude problems before he moved to us''

Every one was completely misguided on that approach

Agree1 Disagree0

Difference is, Bobatron, Berahino has been caught drink driving, that's what the issue is, not his "attitude". One of the easiest human rules to follow: do not drink and drive. If a man can't grasp that simple concept we should steer clear. He is also not as proven talented as Sturridge when we got him, Sturridge had a great loan with Bolton and also looked good enough whenever Chelsea gave him the chance. Only a true top striker signing would have the desired impact of lifting the squad immediately in terms of talent and morale, certainly not Berahino. We simply cannot afford a Striker right now unless we offload Balotelli and Borini which won't happen at least in January. What we mainly need is a 'Keeper and I guess Delph if we lose Lucas. Personally I have the faith that the performances will again keep improving, but sadly BR seems incapable of solving the defensive issues. New players won't do the trick for that it must be the coaching, and for that reason I foresee us finishing 6th. Hopefully we win the Europa League to take us to CL again, and if not I believe that would spend the end to Rodgers. I can go on further than a Rodgers exit but this has spawned from a simple reply to a post about Berahino so I will leave it for now.

Agree0 Disagree0

LFC fan not even remotely my point. Sturridge had no problems it was simply the media thinking he had an ego and portraying it as such as to why he wasn't getting games etc.

Few people on here wanted Sturridge because of that complete misconception. There can be no misconception about Berahinio

Agree1 Disagree0

Lfcfan
You wouldn't take Berahino but you'd take Delph?
Oh dear

Agree1 Disagree1

If we sold Lucas and brought in Delph that would be as good as committing hari kiri.

Agree1 Disagree0

Bobatron, this is very embarrassing I must admit I didn't even read your post correctly I literally only saw "they said attitude about Sturridge" that you had written so my mind kind of assumed the rest of the post which prompted me into an immediate reply. Sorry for that, Still glad I was able to vent a few things though.

Chris In Tamworth, I have given explanations already in my post there:

"We need a top striker. not Berahino"

Do you not agree with this, give me a good reason why you would take Berahino. Bear in mind I don't just mean "take him" because if it was that simple then of course I would have him over Balotelli, Borini, and Lambert, but this is a player who has played decently for a 18 months and will cost what 15 million? Try and justify that please.

"Delph I guess if we lose Lucas"

Do you not agree that If we lose Lucas, then we would need a new player for his role? Can has been a good option sure, I simply bought up Delph since we have confirmed interest in him in the last few days and he has been playing well this season making an impressive debut for England too. If we lost Lucas and we are losing Gerrard, Delph would be a fine player to replace those roles in the squad, whilst also commanding a reasonable fee and he has his best years ahead of him.

Agree0 Disagree2

Then all is good in the hood

Agree0 Disagree0

Forget all the reasoning, if you think Delph is good enough for Liverpool then for me anything else you say is flawed

Agree0 Disagree0

16 Jan 2015 11:48:10
See you can't get anything but a mindless response from "Chris In Tamworth" who takes the easy route by just saying "I don't agree with one thing you said, everything else must be wrong". Why do post a reply to me if you don't want to justify or explain anything you have said. Simply pathetic. When you are in the position we are in, struggling in the CL, not attracting World Class talent, cannot compete with the ludicrous wage demands, you have to settle for a player for a reasonable fee who has performed well with the potential to be developed even further as a player. At the start of last season would you have said Lallana is good enough for Liverpool, I personally wouldn't, but he stepped up his game during 2013-14 and now he is one of our best players.

Thankfully it seems Lucas is staying as he has put in some terrific shifts since coming back into the XI so I expect we won't go for Delph, but based on this years performances alone, he is good enough for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

Delph is a pretty awful player, headless chicken springs to mind. where's Lucas is intelligent with his use of the ball, positioning and tackling, Delph is none of these. The only reason I'd consider him is if it meant getting shot of Joe Allen.

Atm think Sturridge and lallana are probably are only top players - gerrard is still a top player but can't do it regularly anymore. We have a lot of good players and promise just wish we had a few more top players currently!

We have a very young squad, if all our players stay, we going to be really strong in the next 2 years. but that if these players stay.

Hey eds.
Really How is rodgers as a coach?further do u think that he is incapable of coaching defenders?
Or do u think its his tactics- with the full backs being forward isolating d 2 cbs--or his inability to coavh defensive players that makes our def so poor?
Thanx nd keep up the good work!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - the coaching team have done well with improving the technique of the players, that is what they are good at. It is the tactical side of the game that is such a struggle, hence why we leak goals. It is not just the defenders, it is the whole team that are struggling to position themselves correctly.

There is no sign of improvement in defending set pieces either. Still players go to sleep and lose their man or mark the wrong areas. Space is left in dangerous areas, no one is busting a gut to get into those areas or even spotting the spaces. That can only be because they are doing as they are told, rather than being caught out by a well executed set piece while not set.

It is not about the full backs charging forward, we have gone to a back 3 and put Lucas in to help protect us from those situations, so there is cover there. It is just that the defenders don't know where their partners are, they are having to look, rather than the back man telling them what to do. That should be coached into players.

The furthest man along the line from the attack needs ot be instructing the backline on where to be, as he is the one that can look along the line and see whether they need to drop or push. This is something we have struggled with for years, only Agger has been able to cope because he sacrifices his own play to fit in with the partner he plays with. He carried Skrtel and Kjaer, he would adjust his positioning to suit them, as neither were capable of working with him, so he just let them dictate it all.

Without Agger, and without a really organised defensive unit, we are struggling, as we don't have them meshed. They are individuals, not a team. That is one of the first things a coach should be addressing, build from the back!}

15 Jan 2015 12:18:57
Thanx for d brilliant reply.
also is kent ready for a substitute appearance here or there??
The lad has got some skill. realluy like him

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - for a sub appearance, yes, he is ready for that.}

Interesting read ed1. I find it fascinating how grown men can't find a bit of initiative between them and just do these kind of things themselves.

I know footballers aren't renowned for being the brightest sparks but there's an element of common sense to rectifying these problems(adequate coaching would obviously aid the solution)

Agree2 Disagree0

Interesting reply ed, I was mortified that we let our best defender go and for such a derisory fee. Be interested to know what beef Brendan had with agger.

We then went and spent ten times the fee we got for him on a player who is just as slow and worse positional sense, go figure.

Boggles my mind that we have been poor defensively since Brendan arrived and yet he is not willing to accept help from a defensive coach. He should give pulis a call!

Question for fans (and eds).

For a moment, disregard results, tactics, signing etc.

How do you feel about Rodgers as a man, a personality, and the face of our club?

Believable11 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - personally not impressed with him. He comes across like he has spent far too much time watching 'The Office' and taking tips from Ricky Gervais' character in it. His fake tan and bleached teeth are embarrassing signs of vanity. He seems to be putting himself in the spotlight, rather than allowing the club and performances by the team to speak for themselves.}

Agree3 Disagree0

I keep thinking that one day, in an interview, he's going to say
"Managing Liverpool is like making love to a beautiful woman"
In fact I now call him Swiss Toni

Agree7 Disagree0

I try to avoid his words. Whether they be written or spoken on TV.

He talks like a con-man salesman with an excuse for everything. Spin, spin, spin.

He has conned his way into the club and continues to do so.

Agree5 Disagree2

Lovely comment Chris. You know Chris "Managing Liverpool is like making love to a beautiful woman. You throw money at her, ignore the kids if you can't ship them out somewhere, then you adopt impossible positions and then tell her you loved the “intensity”. Chris, you know you should try it sometime.

Agree1 Disagree0

Hi Clarky5000.

A good question, but an awkward question to answer, as saying how I feel about him 'as a man' is difficult as obviously I do not know him personally.

It seems that in an effort to be logical I should use his words and his actions to form a basis for assessment.

In asking if BR's words correspond with his actions it becomes apparent that he seems to to be a hypocrite. Someone who talks the talk, but doesn't walk the walk.

He is quick to take praise and oh-so happy to talk about himself - attributing any success to his 'vision', 'philosophy' - or another self-attributed platitude, as if he is some kind of football guru or genius - despite having achieved little as of yet in his career in comparison with managers who are much more humble.

He should remember the fate of managers like George Burley of Ipswich who was manager of the year with Ipswich back in 2001 before he gets too carried away with himself.

If you listen to Rodgers carefully, after a good result he will attribute the credit to 'creating the right team spirit' - rather than to the 'team spirit' - in this way claiming the credit for himself. He does this continuously, and it betrays a certain narcissism. I bet BR doesn't even notice this himself.

Likewise, if a player plays well, it is because BR has 'created the conditions for the player to play well'. If a player is rubbish - Rodgers will absolve himself of why.

In the same way he is happy to accept adulation, he is not so quick to accept responsibility when things are not going well.

In these situations, he seems quite happy to assign the blame anywhere but to himself - and suddenly his lengthy explanations of how his 'philosophy' is responsible for everything that happens seem to disappear.

The latest scapegoat to be blamed being the pitch after the game at Anfield.

So much for the 'family club', 'we're all in this together - all the way to the tea-lady' platitudes.

I could point out that the STRI (The Sports Turf Research Institute) noted after an inspection in May that "pitches of the Premier League clubs were all to an exceptionally high standard". But why let that get in the way of a good excuse, eh.

He'll milk that all season - and what's worse, people fall for it. I've even read Rodgers apologists who despite agreeing that the pitch is in excellent condition they then suggest that never mind the condition of the pitch - the dimensions are wrong.

I have read and heard fans say - 'We need more width to play the style Rodgers wants, like at the Nou Camp'.

After checking this out I learned that both pitches are of equal width - and there is only 4 metres difference in their length. Absolute BS.

I don't think the likes of Lovren would fancy a longer pitch either - they're already susceptible to the ball over the top and/or playing the high-line.

I also find BR to be heavily influenced by media perception - as demonstrated by his signing of Lambert - this is also demonstrated by his seeming inability to spot a player playing badly unless the back pages and the fans spell it out for him.

He is often the last to realise his own mistakes - yet if he makes changes that the fans, then the media have been clamouring for - he actually talks as if the obvious solution was somehow great management on his behalf, when in reality - he is the last to spot the obvious.

He plays favourites and does not pick players based on merit. His arse-licking of some of our senior players (usually England players btw) regardless of their performance is vomit-inducing, and his praising of the likes of Glen Johnson whilst freezing out players who work hard must surely must damage morale.

He also rambled about making sure of the right character, talking about 'real men' with 'character', 'commitment' - yet signs the likes of Mario Balotelli - and for a handsome fee. That is inexplicable.

Again, he talks the talk, but does not walk the walk.

Having said all that - it is as a 'personality' and as the 'face of our club' where I really find him to be an embarrassment.

He arrived talking about 'values', and 'loyalty' - saying that LFC was a great family club etc.

But his behaviour in his personal life has him splashed over tabloids even more than the likes of Balotelli.

Whilst I have little time for such tabloid crap, and personally, I feel that his private life should be private - he is the manager of Liverpool Football Club, and dealing with constant media scrutiny is part and parcel of the job. He is supposed to be setting an example to the players, not running off with the pretty young staff members when he is supposed to be preparing for a game.

That he has been so fond of pontificating about 'values' and 'loyalty' just makes his behaviour seem more hypocritical to the public, whilst his seeming lack of awareness of his own image makes him an easy target.

It may seem trivial, but his fake tan and teeth do add to his image as a man going through a mid-life crisis when he should be concentrating on football.

Also. That he tries to act like such a pseudo-intellectual really grates with me, as he clearly isn't very bright.

Finally, someone on the site referred to him as a 'poseur' after the Sunderland game. I think that assessment is spot on, and for me, there is one great example that demonstrates this. If you will allow me to explain, here's the story - it is a personal pet peeve of mine that I have noticed long ago - and still laugh at.

For some years now there have been many foreign coaches in the PL - and many have poor spoken English.

As a result of their poor grasp of grammar and pronunciation, these coaches would say in broken English of a player in form that the player was 'in a good moment'. (I think Capello originally pioneered the phrase btw. )

This is not proper phrasing, but a result of poor translation - hence sounding rather strange at the time. But of course this is understandable as after all, English isn't their first language.

However, Brendan, in his effort to appear oh-so-hip and mainland European, seemed to interpret this term as fancy European jargon and uses the phrase incessantly.

Every time I hear Rodgers say 'he's in a real good moment' with that deadly serious tone I do think to myself. what a total person. Intellectual my arse. Just a poseur.

The stylish scarf just adds to the effect.

lol. Seriously. if only he knew.

It'll be a long season - which I reckon will be our worst since Souness (I have long predicted 7th or lower) - but I'm glad that Brendan already has his excuse for the season at the ready.

Actually - that is probably one of the smartest things he's dreamed up recently.

Anyway. Those are my thoughts on Rodgers - and that's not mentioning his judgement of players, tactics and signings either. Because those are not his strong points either.

ps: I've since noticed over the past couple of seasons that even more brain-dead ex-pros like the MOTD brain-trust have started using the 'in a real good moment' term now too.

Footballers sure have a reputation for being pretty thick for a good reason.

Monkey see, Monkey do. I guess.

pps: A bit of an essay btw - sorry, I don't seem to write short posts very well! I could write another one on BR too - these are just off the cuff thoughts!

He can still change my mind, but imo - talk is cheap; and actions speak louder than words.

:)

What a joke - You do all realise the clubs position before he took over??

We were a club that was sitting around 6th and 7th then after one season just 1 season of getting his points across we managed a great second half to a season and then finished 2nd the following season - For half the season we haven't had 2 strikers who were pivotal last year and we are still around the 4th spot - Massive charge now with Sturridge back and were back in there it only takes 2/3 games and were in the top 4 so why so much the criticism of the guy?? Honestly loads are slating him and he's taken the rough ride this season and yes we haven't played nothing like last season but were starting to win games again and starting to slowly find the groove again - Look at the squads age and what is being built?? BUT whilst its being built we are still there or thereabouts to get back into CL spots!!
In Brendan We Trust!!!!!!

Agree2 Disagree6

Also just to add to this ridiculousness look at BR's win percentage - Since 1991 he has the highest win % alongside Benitez and he is only in his 3rd season!!! Think before you talk

Agree2 Disagree4

Zinedine Kilbane

Excellent post !

You have put in great detail how BS Rodgers cons everything and everybody.

Agree3 Disagree2

Hello Cialbray.

Yeah?

And Benitez got sacked.

Because inconsistency and poor planning does not make for a successful manager.

In case you hadn't noticed, things haven't all been roses since 1991.

In fact, didn't Rafa get sacked the year after finishing 2nd - because he royally f***ed things up to the point we finished 7th and almost bankrupt despite years of splashing cash on poor, grossly overpaid players.

We had the worst season since Souness - and we were awful.

Actually. This all sounds a little familiar. But then, you'd need a better memory than a goldfish to remember that and notice the similarities.

What an amazing comparison you chose. You'd swear that you were trying to make yourself look stupid, or at the least that you were being ironic.

I remember that I spent all Rafa's last season explaining to his delusional fanboys why we were going to finish 7th as early in the season as the 3-1 defeat to Spurs that year - and I was right.

I'd bet you any amount that we we not finish 4th, because I am not swayed by a run of some scraped wins and draws against rubbish opposition led by a clearly inept charlatan.

Your post was pretty rude - and arrogant for someone who had little (nothing, more accurately) to say about the topic being discussed.

Try to write something of substance next time, and to write with some civility. Then perhaps I'll deem you worth my time.

Also, next time, try to use full stops. It will help to give your words and sentences some structure and may give them the appearance of coming from someone with a semblance of intelligence.

Also, if you had even a basic grasp of mathematics you would realise how dumb your being impressed by his win percentage as 'he is only in his 3rd season' comment really is.

You should check out Tim Sherwood's record - and that was in one year!!

(that's a joke at your expense btw. I'd be surprised if you got it. So I'm explaining it for you.)

In future, leave the big boys' debates to the big boys, and learn to be more polite in future.

Agree4 Disagree2

Sad to say. But I have to agree.

{Ed001's Note - haven't we had enough drunken pricks at the club with Carroll? One of the reasons for our dominance in the past was the reseach we did into player's personalities, as well as their ability. Berahino would never get near consideration under Paisley, he is going to waste his talent the way he is going.}

I absolutely agree Ed but he's just a kid he can be pointed in the right direction
Ryan Giggs could easily have been branded "not worth the effort" and look what Fergie turned him into

Agree3 Disagree4

Rodgers is not Fergie

Agree4 Disagree0

As far as we can learn anything from George Best, Maradona, Gascoine, Gimmy Greaves, even Tony Adams all had issues with alcohol or drugs . All did great service for their teams(not that I compare Brahinho to any of them). And our Suarez had his own issues with biting as we know. I don't get this rightous attitude, we are not looking for a new Pope or new primary school head teacher. The only question is if he can score consistently as many goals as this year and is not injuryd prone and if we can affrod him. The rest is a problem of his parents and girlfriend not ours.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - sorry but there is a lot more to it than that. All of those players had a shorter career due to their issues than they should have had. All of them had a certain type of personality that is totally different from the one Berahino has. The self righteous attitude is coming from you, trying to claim to know anything about these people and comparing Berahino with any of them is idiotic. As for the problem, it is the club's problem, idiotic to suggest otherwise, as the club have to ensure they are fit and available to play each match, rather than locked up or drunk or otherwise unavailable. You sure a massive lack of understanding and ignorance. Paisley didn't have a righteous attitude, as you so pathetically referred to it, he just wanted the right type of players. Berahino has yet to show he is the right type of person.}

I don't entirely agree with your point on Berahino ED001. Surely a young talented but personally flawed player should in many circumstances be given the opportunity and support to redeem themselves. I agree it is prudent of clubs to assess the personality and behaviour of a player as part of the overall package and then decide if they have the stomach or appetite for the challenge, almost a risk reward strategy. The sums being quoted for Berahino admittedly make this an expensive challenge likely to frighten off many clubs. Liverpool also haven't had much success in recent times in this regard with Carroll and Ballotelli

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - so what on earth is your point? That the club should take another expensive risk with money they can't afford to spend on a player that has already shown massive personality flaws? Why not just sign every imbecile that can't behave? Maybe we should add the likes of Ravel Morrison while we are about it? If we continue to buy imbeciles that can't handle the limelight, we will continue to struggle. We need to buy winners focused on winning, not on showing off to their mates.}

15 Jan 2015 10:13:06
Brendan should not be given a penny in this window. He's already wasted enough money on players who are not good enough: Allen, Borini, Assaidi, Lambert, Manqillo, Aspas, Lovren, Mignolet et al.
Let's really see how good a manager he is and see if he can get a top four this season. If not, goodbye Brendan and his sidekicks

Agree1 Disagree1

Why did I know someone would feel the need to say that?
Obviously I wasn't suggesting that he was especially as I am a critic of Rodgers but the point remains valid
Or are you suggesting that we shouldn't sign any talent because the manager isn't good enough?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - we should sign talent with the right attitude, with real hunger and desire to win games, not be flash tits who just want to be seen.}

C'mon ed001 now, you did say your wife checked the pages and said you were to harsh on some people. Watch it buddy ;)

Only kidding mate, I'm not impressed with Berahino's attitude and problems at all. He's a player i'd avoid at all costs.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - good point, but I just can't believe that all these people think they know better than the greatest manager of all time, Bob Paisley. Jose Mourinho is another one who checks out the background of players to pick ones with the right attitude for his team. Yet suddenly all these football manager players know better, and think it is just about who is the latest flash in the pan media darling.}

What about Sturrdige did he not have a bad name ??
Or was he known about been greedy ect

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he had not had off field issues at all. No idea why anyone would even suggest that!}

Of course you're corrct Ed, as I've already stated, but my reply of "do we not sign any talent because Rodgers isn't good enough" was simply in direct response the the "Rodgers isn't Fergie" comment.
I have every sympathy with your argument, as you know I've posted before about my preference for Liverpool to return to the way it used to behave and used to be run, that said all the negative things being said about Berahino are only second hand opinions unless you actually know the lad so he may actually have the capacity to change his behaviour.
Maybe if I added the words "based on ability alone" to my original post it would seem more favourable?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - that would change it, but ability alone shouldn't be how the decisions are made. I feel that is part of the problem in recent years, most of Rafa's signings, for instance, had ability, it was their attitude that usually let them down. Aqualani had talent in abundance, but he just couldn't be bothered. You only have to look at a current player, Glenn Johnson, to see how ability can be totally wasted on a player with the wrong attitude. If the club had listened, when they were warned about his attitude, we wouldn't have got stuck with that liability at right back for all these years. Similar questions are being raised about Berahino, I would prefer we didn't take that kind of risk on a player who will cost so much and has yet to prove he can really make the most of his talent.}

Sorry Chris, perhaps I should have said that Rodgers is not that type of manager. Rodgers can be friendly with players - He will not instill fear into them, hence why I don't think that Rodgers can be seen as the miracle maker that some see him as. I have nearly always been in favour of Rodgers, but he isn't going to make a bad player a good one, and probably not one with a bad attitude into a role model that Liverpool used to pride itself on.

Agree0 Disagree0

I do agree that attitude is hugely important and I suppose I'm just hoping that the rumours are overblown and as for price I also agree which is why the swap deal I suggested seemed a better deal
I'm sure it wouldn't happen anyway though but still

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in the position we are in, I would rather keep those two for now. Berahino is so far from a finished product he would not be much of a help. We have enough young talent already.}

Also Ed, and I genuinely don't know the answer to this, but I've been told that a couple of years ago Sterling had a terrible attitude. Would that be right?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no, he was always listening to his coaches and was willing to learn. He was getting into bother off the pitch, but he always applied himself on the pitch.}

Pfft, paisley? Joseeee Mourinhooooooo all the way. Only joking. I'd agree with you, Clough up there too.

Football is funny. We post on these pages what we think, which is so far off lol. It's like on the chelsea page when we say stuff, we should just leave it to the manager really haha.

Sturridge had zero off feild problems mate, he just was incredibly selfish and injury prone when second choice for us (chelsea)

There's nothing that annoys me more than incredibly talented players who waste there careers. Ravel Morrison being the prime example.

Honestly, ed001 and Ed002 need to be the 1 and 2 of Liverpool football club, your knowledge is amazing! And I'm sure you'd do better than the bunch of clowns currently at Liverpool

(Ps love this page, I commented, then went all the way down the page, then refreshed and there was already another 3 replies. Great community you have here

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it took off during the FSG takeover, that was when it was just starting as a separate page. So it had a real following from the start. Stable clubs don't get the same following as fans seem to be more interested in moaning than celebrating wins! For instance, when Wolves were sliding down the table in the Prem, then again into League One, their site was very busy. Now they are doing better, their site has gone much quieter. I am sure the Chelsea site will become busy when Jose is replaced by Steve McLaren at the end of the season ;)

Chris, look at what happened with osvaldo at Southampton. Terrible signing by pochetino. A great player, who just can't be bothered.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes mate! I know it is so so strange! We always strive for our team to be better. I have a younger cousin, who's a Liverpool fan, and is so quiet now that Liverpool are doing bad, was non stop calling me last year when they were doing well. Then you have the opposite, complaining when top of the league. It's a weird life haha.

And please no! Not Steve mclaren! Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - oh shoot sorry let the cat out the bag there didn't I?}

We seem to think we know more than the people that have got us in a great position in every aspect over at the chelsea page haha

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I have noticed! ;)

Ha.

Oh leave us alone! We like to think were more educated than we actually are :P

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - bless it is sweet that you all think that.}

So bob Paisley surely wouldn't sign Suzrez then, would he? And what about John Terri in chelsea for all the 'Morinho check personalities' advocates here (racism, sleeping with his team mate's girlfriend etc), Ryan Gigs had his own domestic issues. It didn't afect their game. Christinao Ronaldo is one of the most arrogant players I have seen. People forget how after he came back from that World Cup after winking after he drew a red card from Ronney his team mate, he was one of the most hated players in the UK and wanted to leave. He wasn't rated then as a world class and I can see how some people here, if he was ours, would have said then he should go because he ruins the team ethos. Fortunately for ManU Ferguson fought to keep him. We have to accept that some talented (and also some less talented) footballers, as other big athlets, are not Sunday school role models. It is not always a disaster waiting to happen. Even Baloteli for us this year wasn't a disaster in terms of behaviour - he missed only one game due to his behaviour. Not even one red card. He was just awful on the pitch which is adifferent matter (maybe related to his lazyness as well though). And btw Ed001, the fact someone doesn't agree with you on something doesn't mean automatically his view is personic.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - sorry you really aren't reading what I said are you? You are talking about things that are not related to the issues. You are talking about them being knobs, not about their attitude towards the game. Suarez is a winner, his problems stemmed from trying too hard to win, not from the same source as Berahino's, which is showing off and being a lad. You are not understanding anything you are trying to talk about here and showing complete ignorance. All of the things you have listed are just irrelevant. You are making your whole point look even more idiotic by claiming Ronaldo's winking is anything like what Berahino has done. Ronaldo works at his game constantly. He wants to improve himself and win everything. It is completely unrelated and you are just making yourself look silly by connecting that to this matter. If you are going to just dribble on about this kind of stuff, then it is pointless having a conversation with you about it, because you clearly don't understand.}

15 Jan 2015 11:41:20
Naaahhh I'll do that deal without blinking chris! Mark my words Berahino's going to be a top english player in the not too distant future

Agree0 Disagree1

Tell you what then, I will modify the suggestion in the the post that started all this conversation and say let's give Lambert, Borini and also Baloteli for Berahinho. Surely this way we replace trouble off the pitch with trouble off the pitch but at least get someone who can score on the pitch. I will be seriously happy with such a deal. Dosen't seem to happen though.

Agree1 Disagree1

Just in response to your rely to my last message ED001. I'm not sayin Liverpool should buy Berahino and nor do I want them to. All I'm saying is that in any walk of life that a person who makes mistakes, particularly when young, deserve in many cases the chance to redeem themselves and evolve as a person. In many cases this is just a part of growing up and maturing. I agree that I prefer Liverpool to sign players with a winning mentality and with proven good behaviour. It's very difficult to say that a young player who now has behavioural issues will continue to do so over the course of their career. Life is often about giving second chances. What makes this difficult in football is the money associated with taking these chances. Just my humble opinion and I certainly don't believe that my opinions are more developed than the great managers like Paisley and Mourinho, and indeed your own considered opinion which I respect

Agree0 Disagree0

I wasn't aware that Berahino was having any issues on the pitch nor on the training ground. I thought his issues were outside football.
I'd take him I think and if I could do it by off loading Lambert and Borini and no cash involved I'd be delighted

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the reason there is all the talk of him moving is because the Baggies are looking to move him on to raise funds. The reason they are looking to move him on, rather than hang on to him unless a monster offer comes in, is because he is acting a bit big time.}

15 Jan 2015 13:10:20
Didn't he get in a fight with one of his team mates recently? Tbh think he is talented but isn't worth a £20m punt !

Just a question Ed about Rooney, have always heard mixed stories about his motivation/professionalism. When he is on the pitch looks like he is a born winner and has a real desire to win, but does that translate into training and off the pitch?

Always curious as remember when he was younger looked like he would be better then CR7 but obviously that never happened! So does/did Rooney put the same amount of extra effort and training to improve himself or did he not have that focus? Only say this as seemed to have peaked years ago and not sure if it is through injuries or not taken care of himself, but seems to have lost his athleticism rather early

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he is not as hard a worker in training as he is on the pitch. He is not the best trainer according to coaches who have worked with him. Not the worst though, by any means. I think he just loves playing but finds training boring, that is the way it seems from what I have been told.}

You must have hated the spice boys era ed

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in some respects, but I love Roy Evans, he is such a genuine nice guy and fantastic coach. It did annoy me that we had knobbers like James wasting our time dropping clangers week in, week out and not being arsed to try and work on it in training. He was a joke.}

Sadly I was a bit too young to realise what was going on at that point. Simply reading it sounds frustrating, when you hear of the pass the pound, and writing cheques for Roy to miss training etc.

I'd hate for us to go to anything like what I've read about in those days. We just don't need antics like that. Sadly I don't think there's much a manager can do in those situations. I think I'd much rather go for a Kane or Austin who seem keen to improve their game, and as far as I'm aware haven't had much off the field antics.

Berahino certainly has talent, but obvious attitude issues as Ed1 says. Unless he comes back down to earth sharp, he'll never fulfil his potential.
Currently he's maybe worth a punt at £10m ish, certainly no way near the 20 mark.

Although drink driving is beyond stupid, and I don't condone that one bit. I am maybe slightly sympathetic towards some of the young lads. I'm sure many did or do (like me) in their late teens/ early twenties love going out on the weekend and get lashed. These lads just simply don't have this option during the season particularly. Now that said, I would absolutely throw away that sort of lifestyle if I had the talent to be a pro footballer and was earning tens of thousands pounds a week. So I'm a bit torn when it comes to players like this, part of me thinks sure, enjoy your younger years like the rest of us, and the other part of me is just screaming 'what are you doing you absolute tool!'

Also I think many are missing Ed 1's point about attitude. He's pointing towards the kind of attitude that could ruin careers or how far they can go, as opposed to suarez like attitude that gets him in trouble because he constantly wants to be better and win.

Agree1 Disagree0

Balotelli? suarez? collimore? fowler with his sniffing coke celebration? how of earth is berahino worst than any of these players with attitude? most of our players had a bad reputation at some point > riise and bellamy? than the next game they both scored against barcelona and we beat them. Berahino reminds me of sterling. imagen having both of them with ibe coming in. amazing in my eyes

@Ed001: totally understand your point about players not being arsed to work hard, but how about Aguero? Hart said that he was lazy as hell in training, so do you think Paisley/Mourinho would have gone in for him?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Paisley would have looked elsewhere, his laziness is probably the cause of his injuries, which is a good reason to steer clear of someone on double the rest of the team, I believe. There are players out there who can provide for the team and stay fit, such as Suarez, so why go for Aguero? Plus we are not in a financial position to get him anyway, so it is irrelevant.}

Not sure how Origi or some of the talent in the u21 squad would make of us burning a larger hole in the bank account and yet another block to them seeing first team football.

{Ed001's Note - Red Issue in case anyone is wondering the name, and I fully understand their point of view.}

15 Jan 2015 09:59:23
It is worth reading the editors reasons for ending the Red Issue which too be honest is very true and another kick up the ba k side for what is our beautiful game. I find myself relieved to see someone at the point that I am in my love hate relationship with football. The commercial side of the game and money is at the point where it has ruined it for me. The commercial greed and now unbelievable personal greed of the players. Certain characters have so much power and extremely worryingly admiration of young people. These same characters albeit a minority are constantly in the papers for offensive es and stupidity:biting, fighting, drunk etc etc and even rape. Where are our young players: signed up at 6 for clubs and stopped from enjoying playing for their schools and built up to be better than others to be dropped and put off the game for good . I have always loved the game and still love the game itself but the wider affairs are horrendous, immoral and having a negative impact on young children and society. Even I get drawn in to wanting big money spent on top players to have success with my team but how is this raised: huge ticket prices, corporate hospitality, massive prices for replica kits. Is this not robbing the poor to give to the rich. Robin Hood would be turning in his grave. It maybe a man utd fanzine but it still rings true to all football fans that our game looks glossy on the outside but inside there are issues at all levels and respect of the game, youngsters and all fans has all but gone. Worryingly I can't help but love the game such is its power and the powers that be know that and take advantage.

Agree0 Disagree0

I suppose that's just it nowadays, what is even the point anymore? Seen some of those bogey covers the Red Issue did just now, part of me really likes them, purely because its a similar view to mine in reality, there are 20 teams in the division and I really couldn't care less about 19 of them, as much as Sky would like me to tune into every overhyped boring 'Super Sunday' game.

Agree0 Disagree0

Denzil, I'm falling out of love with the game, and fast.

Hey eds, erm. Why didn't we sign Rémy again? Half the price of Ballotelli and a much better fit for our style of play. I hope Mario sorts him self out, I hate to talent go to waste, through what appears to be pig headed arrogance and self loathing. I'm keen to hear how he is in training.

The papers need to sell stories, they will make up stories to sell papers. Do the journalists know as much as we do? Probably not. I'd say the liklihood of us buying a player before selling our loanee's & current fringe players is minimal. If however FSG answered to the commands of fans, went on and bought Benzema, Higuain, Lavezzi & Origi from his loan then we would see the club in a horrible state of affairs and back in thick mud. I feel for fsg, a trustworthy sporting franchise who can't win & have been told to stay away with the pitchfork and fire stick army. If anyone is to blame, it's some of these 'fans' for being fickle, angry persons. I am a red, I stay away from papers, it's the best thing trust me. If we didn't pile on the pressure, maybe the club & players could breathe a little, expect little and hope for more is all i'd say this window and start maybe supporting our current crop of players than supporting the transfer window

Top post!1 In the eyes of many "fans", the owners can`t do anything right. They expand our ground at Anfield, they get hammered. They have spent over 350m in on transfers in 4 yrs and that is still not enuff. They don`t interfere with tactics, transfers nor do they pick the players we sign YET they get hammered for not being at Anfield enuff. They are trying to plug the debts the club accrues everyday and still get no credit. For such fans, I only have one thing to say to them: Hicks and Gillet still have sports teams in the U.S. As a result, you can go support their teams and leave our thoughtful owners alone.

Massive respect to Roy Evans son, Stephen for quitting his job when asked to promote products linked to the newspaper, the lad basically made himself unemployed without anything lined up, hope someone can offer him a good job, he deserves it for sticking to his principles even at a great personal cost.
