Hi gents, Gooner here in peace,
I did not watch all of the match but I have to admit you boys are looking absolutely awesome. Sure, Spurs had a lot of injuries but to be fair so did you boys.
You do frighten me and BR seems to be getting the best out of you.
Huge fan of Stevie G, but I know I might upset some of you but I feel you play a lot better without him, more flowing and you seem to have a better midfield to attack link up in his absence.
As for Luis Suarez, jeez what can I say? By far the best out and out striker in the world, absolutely awesome display, yet again.
Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season and hope you finish 2nd behind my boys, lol.

PS, hope you all have a lovely xmas and new year.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

No offense taken mate, your assessment of Gerrard is one a lot of fans on here have made before. Team looks better and performs better in his absence.

Good luck for the season mate, if we don't win the league we don't mind if you's do, just knock those cheeky bids for suarez on the head eh ;)

Agree0 Disagree0

Nice post mate! Here's hoping to us to be up with 1st and second! Would love for Everton to be up on top 4 as well but the likelyhood of knocking Chelsea or City out is difficult!

Have a nice Christmas mate hopefully you guys beat Chelsea next week!

I don't Hate City TBH, Coz, they don't open their mouth. UTD as always our arch Rivals.
I don't hate Chelsea, They have a decent Squad and owner who have tonz of money and buy players, who ain't required.
But I hate Jose. coz. He isn't the best he thinks of. or even some chelsea thinks off.
Take off Porto, He has never been with a club who hasn't spend less than 60-70 mill on transfers.
Willian 35 mill
RDM had a pretty good start similar in terms of Points, yet got sacked. and Jose plays very very boring football thesde days with chelsea.

Agree0 Disagree0

Pleasure boys,
Seano, I promise I won't make any more bids for Suarez but can't promise Wenger won't mate lol

Were are all the people moaning about stirling now!
Hes a top prospect who jus needs time and games!

Hendo and allen were superb

Flannagan is a scouser and is going to be a top player for us I reckon

Abbas lfc

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sterling has put a lot of people to shame including me in the past few weeks. However the real test is maintaining that form over the course of the entire season because we need him with Sturridge injured.

Mate this is the problem stirling is a kid he's 19 he's going to have bad games but when he does we have to support him otherwise hel end up like lennon and young lmao

Abbas lfc

Agree0 Disagree0

Abbas lfc, even if Sterling was to have his leg amputed, he would still end up a better player that either Young or Lennon.

Well happy with Sakho, bedding in really well now, imposing himself and giving nothing away. His passing is quality as well, gives us an outlet at the back. Only criticism is if he gets caught on his weak foot he panics a bit, sure he'll improve that in time. Hope he has a long successful career at the club - he has all the tools to be a top centre back.

Made up for Flanno - when I saw him named in the team for Arsenal away all those games ago I was devastated as I really didn't think he was good enough. The lad has not put a foot wrong. His work ethic has been fantastic but I think the two big assets he has given us (which Enrique did not) was a good positional sense and a clever use of the ball. He doesn't give it away easily and he puts himself in the right position to defend. Regardless of Enrique's injury Flanno has made that left back spot his own, there completely on merit.

Sterling has been getting better with each passing game and today his work rate was top notch as was his tracking back. Working hard for the team and had a spring in his step attacking wise. His pass leading up to the second goal was class and he deserved his goal. Consistency is always the biggest challenge for the young lads - if he can keep it going Moses isn't (rightly in my opinion the lazy git) going to get a sniff.

Joe Allen. I have been on of his fiercest critics and I admit on his back a lot, saying he was not good enough, not worth 15million etc. He was brilliant today. To be fair he has done well the games he has been back in but today he performed fantastically, could not fault the lad. If he keeps that up I will gladly keep wolfing down humble pie.

Very proud of the team, the desire and commitment was first class from front to back - if they show that desire every game then few teams will stop us.

Well worth getting up at 2am here in Oz for, best team performance in a long time, and against a team that many on here were obsessed with preseason. I've been a fan of Alberto and would have liked to see him get more game time. Though he played a classy ball through for Suarez's second, he seemed pedestrian compared to the other players when he came on. I sat here saying "come on lad, get stuck in, up the tempo!" I know the game was done and dusted, but you would think he'd want to catch the manager's eye, Moses too for that matter.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Moses came on after 89 minutes, you mad? How is he meant to show himself in stoppage time, our defence were spraying passes round almost all of it

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2013 22:40:32
One more positive from this avo.

Alberto's cameo at the end.

That pass for Suarez at the end was sublime he has an eye for a pass and good technique. I also like the way he is gradually being introduced to the English game rather than just being chucked in at the deep end.

Imagine a few years time an attacking midfield of Alberto, Coutinho and Suso?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Alberto has the ability to pull the strings but he's so slow, I can't belive how i'm mobile he is. he stands out like a sore thumb when he tracks back or tries to get on the end of a through ball

Anyone else looking forward to MOTD2 I know I am

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thought MOTD coverage of us was rubbish. Rushed, short and skipped over a lot of our good play were we didn't score but should have. Lawrenson chatted nonsense as well about Henderson being sub par until now - he has been getting better and better the past 2 seasons and has performed on a pretty consistent basis for us this season. Lawrenson shouldn't be a pundit.

There will be times when Gerro will be missed and he has been a Collossus for us over the years.
However, we were immense today and that's thanks, largely, to Henderson and Allen and the freedom they had.
I remember saying as much the last time Gerro was out for a while and we went on a great run.
Sorry Stevie.just saying.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Dec 2013 23:11:16
Hendo was immense.plays with much more confidence and freedom without Stevie in midfield.
Future Liverpool FC Captain!

Come on Kop.let's have a song for Hendo. we, ve got a gem there.

Agree0 Disagree0

''There was something in the air that night,
the stars were bright for Hendo,
they were shining there for you and me,
for LFC for Hendo''

Agree0 Disagree0

That freedom Henderson and Allen had was given to them by Lucas. If they played with Gerrard instead of Lucas, Allen would have played more defensively because Gerrard doesn't really tract back and henderson would have played more as a RCM. Not knocking Gerrard it's just an observation, like in the beginning of last season we saw that gerrard, hendo and allen as a middle three does not work.

Agree0 Disagree0

I have been saying his for quite some time that we play better as a midfield unit without Stevie G. Not knocking him, but he just does not suit the pass and move philosophy that BR wants us to play. He is more suited to a counter attacking game where his diagonal long ball and explosive bursts forward contribute to a lot of goals. But he simply does not have the work rate or discipline to play as a deep lying playmaker.

hi eds first time poster. great work. great result against tottenham. players who I think would improve us. not guaranteed starters but here goes. townsend, excellent prospect an would fit in with the quick counter attack we play. james milner, wasted at city engine like hendo an the more he plays the better he gets. and also another young striker. maybe jese from madrid. any chances or is it wishful thinking.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Welcome woody! I however, disagree with all 3 of your options.

Agree0 Disagree0

Townsend, milner, jese? Money don't grow on trees so I hope any investments we make in players are better than these ones.

Agree0 Disagree0

Townsend We have got our fair share of prospect
milner I dnt think so
jese yes. that guy is going to be one of the best in a few years

Ed002

Do you still believe it would have been best to sell Suarez? What a bad boy he is, he damages the image of Liverpool football club.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Suarez still wants out as his representatives have been doing the rounds.}

+1 to the eds he does still want out and he will go for the ££££

Agree0 Disagree0

That is not the point. You were saying he must leave as he drives Liverpool's name to the mud.
The point is, against the players' wishes, you don't sell you star players cheaply just because they bit, they say "racists words", they show the middle finger to provocative fans. You sell them cheaply because they don't perform. Suarez was, is and will continue to be unplayable and for that in order to leave a team must come with an astronomical amount of money.
Well played FSG and Brendan. That was the best deal of the PL in the summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Nobody has said he needs to be sold cheaply.}

Sometimes you think you have seen everything, then low and behold lfc make LS captain! I mean WTF, I had to to do a double take and rewind the sly sports news. unbeleivable! you would have thought Liverpool fc would have learned their lesson after pandering to this person only for him to drag the clubs good name through the mud , but oh no not lfc! I know I will probably get slated for this but the last time Steve G was injured we did pretty well and had a good run. He is a legend and always will be but he hasn't been as quick and sharp as our midfield needs to be. Today the one touch passing was unreal. Hendo looked awesome almost like there was three of him! Has he got a song because if he hasn't he needs one! Got tickets for the chavs can't ruddy wait! Happy Christmas reds YNWA. Tobiwan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would you get slated

i ve been wanting to see our midfield without gerrard for the last 8 or 9 games

Agree0 Disagree0

You should not get slated because you are right, at the moment gerrard is fine against weaker teams, but against the better teams he is too often too sloe on the ball and off the pace, I still have my doubts about lucas because he is very slow I think that henderson and allen will be vital to a title push or a least a top four finish, everyone today was excellant and any so called supporter who complains about rogers and the squad needs to get a grip and h**k off, that is all

pd

Agree0 Disagree0

You won't get slated la plenty of posters on here (me included) as well as ed001 have advocated for Gerrard to be used as an impact sub as he cannot keep the tempo and pressing up for a full game. Its early days but if our midfield keeps performing the way it is he might not walk back into the team.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2013 23:36:21
Gerrard never has been a world class central midfielder, he was a world class attacking midfielder. And tbh, I think deep down Rodgers knows this. Maybe he just wasn't sure if Hendo, Lucas and Allen could do enough without Gerrard around. Or maybe he doesn't think Gerrard has the legs to be an AM anymore

Now if whilst Gerrard is out, the others can keep playing well, we can rules out the former. As for the latter, Gerrard is 33. But that's not 36, or 37. And what's more, he's always been one of the fittest players in the league. So I think he still could play for us as an attacking midfielder.

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Dec 2013 23:40:49
Bah. Hit submit before I was finished.

Anyway, to continue my point, it'll be an interesting problem for Rodgers to have if everyone keeps up their form.

I don't think Rodgers will leave Gerrard out. He may not be having a great season, but (I think) he's created more chances for his teammates than anyone else in our team. It'd be very harsh to drop Hendo with the season he's having, and we need Lucas because he's still the only one who's good enough defensively, imo. And Allen could easily play his way to being undroppable if he keeps doing what he's doing. So either Rodgers screws someone, rotates, or changes the midfield to a 4 man diamond with Stevie at the top. Which would probably mean dropping Coutinho.

Agree0 Disagree0

You all realise this was 1 game right!? Against a team that has REALLY struggled for goals and consistency.

Spurs have a great set of individual players but aren't a team yet. we will struggle without Gerrard against many other teams.

You can't judge a team by 1 game, hell half the time you can't judge a player by 1 season (see, benteke, michu etc)

Agree0 Disagree0

Similar performance to those we had towards the end of last season with Gerrard out injured, wouldn't you all agree?

Agree0 Disagree0

Gerrards biggest asset (and indeed his biggest source of assists) this season has been from set pieces. Remove them from the equation and his contribution has been peripheral, if the teams current form is maintained then he shouldn't walk back into the team. I've watched the lad from his debut til present day and he has been phenomenal but he is older now and he is past his best, a transition to squad/back-up player is required.

Agree0 Disagree0

We were absolutely unplayable today. No team in world football would have beaten Liverpool today. From the first minute we where awesome,, to stop one of the most attacking teams in Europe from having a single shot on target away from home is incredible. I've never seen that before and 5 didn't flatter Liverpool. Well played boys and BR

Believable0 Unbelievable0

One of the most attacking teams in Europe? Clearly you didn't realize that Tottenham scores almost 1 each game. They are on par attacking wise with Fulham. Nice comment, it made me laugh.
We were from another planet today, but I wouldn't say nobody could beat us. On the second half we showed glimpses of our cracked self and if it weren't for the red I don't know how the match would go.
But the truth is today was one of the best performance, if not the best I've seen since 2009. Hendo was excellent today.

Agree0 Disagree0

Haha I'm quite aware of how many goals they've scored lad check my post from the other day.
Spurs are famous for attacking and have been for since I can remember, tell me a single team that has stopped them having a shot on target at WHL. It's NEVER happened kid. We'd have won the game 4/5 without the red, we was all over them, the team has genuinely shocked me from how we've bounced back from Hull. Destroying teams at the moment, long may it continue

Agree0 Disagree0

I love the banter sites, week in, week out one team plays brilliantly, the future looks fantastic for that team. Next week it's another team. The premiership is won over a season, when the most consistent team, or the team that hits a good run at the end of the season wins the prize. Liverpool were outstandiing today, so have the other top teams in some matches this year. Can they consistently repeat the performance, it will be interesting to see.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs,, Most shots in the premier league. I rest my case,, one of the most attacking teams in Europe

Got to point out after the next 3 games we get to the mid point of the season where have played only soton and the mancs at home and the remaining top 12 teams away. That's got to count for something especially with our home record. When I looked at the fixtures at the beginning of the season I as hoping by xmas we could be 4th or 5th and in with a chance of CL football. Now we could actually be top at xmas with a genuine title shot. Also I hope the other teams continue doing well in Europe and the cups as injuries are being picked up and other distractions.

I honestly didn't think Flanno had what it takes to be a first team player, but he does.

He has heart, grit, determination and application to the job.

He is ironing out the silly mistakes and fair dos, humble pie for me and i'm happy with that!

Also big shout to Allen too, looked clever in his positioning and usage of the ball. Brains beating brawn, again humble pie for me as I thought he was too lightweight.

Hendo was imperious.

Great performance all round and one last thing, Sakho absolute beast.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Allen has really beefed up his upper body by the looks of it, paying great dividends now looks strong and assured on the ball and yes his positioning with and without the ball was top quality! And what energy, superb performance all round!

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed on both points

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think Flanagan is the most naturally gifted player in the Premier League, but I do think he's the type that absolutely works his socks off in training. Fair play to BR for rewarding that and fair play to the lad for taking advantage.

Pains me to say this but Flanagan is a lot like Gary Neville at the same age.

15 Dec 2013 20:40:10
Fantastic team performance this afternoon especially in midfield where our energy and enthusiasm was too much for Spurs. Allen and Henderson were tireless workers, closing them down quickly and denying them any space to play and intelligent when in possession of the ball.
Lets not get too carried away though. We could have scored a few more and Glen Johnsons performances recently leaves me asking questions about Martin Kellys fitness. GJ has great technique and is ideal as a modern day full back but since he got injured against the Mancs earlier this year (when he was one of best performers) he has been very average. Gives the ball away far too often and gets beaten regularly on the outside.
Other than that, I'm still buzzing!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have to agree GJ was the only player who didn't get at least an 8 out of 10 today. Very lax in possession, doesn't move the ball quickly enough and hardly ever stops crosses into the box. Henderson was actually having a go at him at one point because of it in first half. Too inconsistent for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Johnson was again below par and really stood out as a weak link given how well everyone else was playing. No coincidence a lot of Tottenhams attacks came down the right in the first half. Johnson needs to start using the ball better and sticking to his position, especially when defending - he should take a leaf out of Flanno's book, his positioning has been excellent.

Good result and performance today. This was a good win against one of the supposed top four contenders.
Im not going to get carried away by any stretch but we have 2 games coming up which will really set our season and hopes ine way or the other. Do well in at the Etihad and the Bridge and we will be right up there with the title challengers. Not to mention that we could go top before those games with a win against Cardiff.
If we do not do so well in those games then ce la vie, we will still be going strongly for top 4.
Brendans philosophy is finally shining through. The test against the fluid and purposeful midfields of City and Chelsea will be a new test, I just hope we dominate the ball and battle in midfield like today.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They will be a different test. BUT let`s take it one game at time and not overlook Cardiff.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm not pasting over the Cardiff game in any way, they can definitely mix it up, but got to look at the fact they perform well at home and not so well away. United and City dropped points in Cardiff.
Just saying that after the City and Chelsea game we will 19 games played 19 remaining and we will have played all our other contenders, mostly away from home it has to be said.
We will have a very good reflection of where we should be aiming for at the end of the season should the squad remain fit and firing.

Really good team performance, I had my doubts about this match as spurs really made life hard for us in the past seasons especially at white hart lane. but yeah I'll say Sterling was my MOTM. He was the very first person I noticed really pressing off the ball and got in the faces of his opposition on the ball. He caused spurs to make a sub at half time & was the reason for our first & second goals, then scored one himself which should have been his second goal of the night. I must say Sterling, Johnson and Allen make a good team on the right side of the pitch.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My fellow reds, I have almost NEVER felt more pride for being a red than I was while watching our team play the game the way it SHOULD be played. Pressure, desire, work ethic, teamwork, togetherness and to top it all, GOALS. Joe Allen, Hendo, Lucas, Sakho, couts, Suarez, Sterling, Flanno in fact the whole team showed why FSG hired BR for this job. Allen and Lucas played blinders while Sterling looked like a MAN and not a boy out there.FSG wanted a young coach with a progressive mind and great ideas and we now have one. We now have a nucleus of young players mixed w/ experienced veterans who will be the foundation for this great club. Special mention to Hendo who shut up his doubters (hopefully) for good w/ his most outstanding game in an lfc top. As for Flanno, he continues to amaze me how cool and composed he is for his age. He kept Lennon in his pocket all game. And that goal almost brought a tear to my eyes w/ emotion because I was SO happy for him and felt his joy. THis is by far the MOST accomplished performance under BR to date and long may they countinue to pile up. Let`s enjoy the win and remain humble till we reach our goals in the spring. RED TILL I`M DEAD!

Now before people start saying we shouldn't get carried away that performance will give the lads a huge confidence boost going into the City and Chelsea games.

Just got back in from the cinema. Had to go with the wife to see that Hobbit film. Over 2.5 hours long. Could not wait to get back to see what had happened at WHL. I was thinking that a score draw would be a good result. Just tuned onto LFC and Claire was smiling. New it had to be good news.

Fantastic. 5 nil. what a great result.

Clearly Suarez is from another planet in terms of his ability but I am so pleased for Flanno Hendo and Allen.

ED02 not taking the Mick here, I am working away and missed it, can you give me a quick unbiased report? And as I see Chelsea going all the way, where do you see us? Fans get blinkered on here which is why I would like your opinion.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I was in the car and the television has to be switched off whilst driving. Sorry. However, I am sat in a hotel bar right now and the person I am with thought Liverpool played very well indeed and Spurs not playing well takes nothing away from a good Liverpool performance. Apparently Jordo Hendo played very well - as did PipCo and Suarez.}

Im a fan but ill give you an unbiased opinion on the game as a whole
Spurs were poor, but like Ed02 stated it really didn't take away from LFC's performance we were awesome all over the pitch
Flanagan is so much improved, Allen was great without having to give the ball to Gerrard every two minutes, the back four looked better for having consecutive starts, Suarez was his usual self and Sterling looked like the player we hoped he was, Henderson looked classy in midfield hustling and bustling and overall we were just quicker to everything, far quicker than spurs who for me looked lost with so many new faces in the squad since the summer, I personally don't think AVB has had long enough with those new players and dosnt need to be sacked and I also think we are benefiting from being underdogs this year as opposed to one of the talked up few. I think we have what some would crave and that's more of a team ethic rather than relying on individuals, regardless of how many goals Suarez has scored for us, we create good chances and that for me is where we are strong, hoping the new year will be more of the same. YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

Good assessment, Guv. Spurs were poor and lfc was great. It was a combination of the two IMO.

Unbelievable result and performance from the lads, and Flano where did that come from.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Brilliant performance by the lads against a team who played right into our hands. RVB is a tactical rookery but nonetheless, Hendo, Allen, Flanno and Sterling played well. I suspected Gerrards absence would suit us in this fixture and it did.

I would like to say fantastic performance today from the boys, probably the best performance under Brendan!. However, Although I agree with the excitement after such a incredible display, I still think we need to be realistic and say spurs have been inconsistent this season and have been beaten 6-0 by city already this season, so for some people to be saying we should be able to beat city and chelsea no problem and finish top after that win at spurs, I feel as if they maybe getting abit ahead of themselves, bare in mind when we played Arsenal we lost 2-0 and they have been considered serious title contenders since the start where as spurs have not and are very inconsistent this season and following on from that I think we would do well to take a draw from city considering the amount of goals they have been scoring against teams this season ( BUt you never know because anyone can beat anyone these days) then maybe a draw or 1-0 win from chelsea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We made spurs look poorer than they actually are.

Simply exquisite, what a win a key thing at the moment is goal difference it's getting better and better, I said to myself before the game 7 points from from the next 4 games would be good hopefully we will win a tough game against Cardiff then a draw from one of Chelsea or City would be a good result in my opinion, obviously now I'm over exited and think we could win our next three ha! Great win from the lads today, we played some fantastic football throughout the majority of game. Suarez, as always, was unbelievable and to score the same amount of goals as ronaldo in 5 less games just goes to show that he is up there with the best in the world. Very happy that Hendo and Flano got a goal today. Special mention to our midfield, I thought we were going to struggle without captain fantastic today but we dominated from the middle. Hopefully all our christmas games have the same result

I think BR, Hendo, Allen, Sterling and our team in general proved that we should not doubt our potential. With the desire we showed today, and being able to hear the away fans even through a crappy internet stream in the Caribbean showed what makes us Liverpool. I won't call names or moan, but maybe some posters on here should relax and support our team through it all. Take a page from Hendo's book and show infinite desire.

Superb masterful team performance. I haven't seen a similar annhilation of a team from the starting whistle in years. Am looking for a standout player to name but can't find one - everyone played very well. Two key questions were clearly answered - LFC belongs in the top four now and champions league next year, and the post Gerrard era is assured with able and capable successors.

We all slate or praise players on here all the time. But Brendan Rodgers deserves praise after today's game for building a team with hunger and nerves of steel. Yes, we can win it all with this man at the helm.

I had an early discussion with a poster regarding giving teams 'a hiding' and little did I know how much of a hiding we have given to a strong side on their home turf.

It's about time this happened.

Well done Liverpool. well done Brendan. well done FSG. and well done Spurs for allowing our season (especially the festive season) to kick-on even further.

It's fair to say now that the owners can quietly comfortably dip their hands into their pockets for January as the league position does not lie with many Champions league aspiring players tempted by the lure of a team in second place and in the 'top four'.

I've tried to play-down Liverpool's performances this season, but any unbiased football fan can clearly see this team oozes class at times, and judging by the average age of the team - things can only get better!

johnson should play left back so he can push back walker who will have a field day today as he won't be defending much
and kolo toure should play right back

rodgers reminds me of mancini. always plays the same way all the time with tactical naivety.

and now skrytel who I see as a number 2 defender will lead that back 4. he will be soo close to the keeper by dropping deep spurs will be able to play so high up the pitch. I agree with one of the eds about skrtel dropping way too deep

LFC will go 2 goals up. They will pull a consolation towards d final whistle. Save your Thanks för later guys.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thanks? you ruined the game for me now telling me the score. ehh

Agree0 Disagree0

Ditto, I have a bet at 40:1 that LFC win 1 - 2 with Luis Suarez scoring the first goal .

Agree0 Disagree0

Well your looking happy now lads who is going to score for spuds

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow i'd hate to be you guys right now. they don't look like they'll score with 10 men now!

Anyone believe our upturn in fortunes this year owes a lot to the signing of Simon Mignolet?
Going through our matches, he won us our first three games (Stoke, Villa & United) with some great saves, and also played a big part in keeping us on top against West Ham and Sunderland (where, admittedly, he should have done better for the goal) and, unforgettably, he was heroic in the derby and definitely unlucky to concede 3 goals he could do nothing about but closed down 3 1on1 opportunities I believe.

I don't really think so. I think he quite a few flaps and errors in his first few games, but just got away with them.

That said, he was excellent in the derby and I hope we'll look back on that is being the springboard to an excellent Liverpool career. Let's hope he doesn't end up breaking a few years up the line like our last 4 keepers.

Agree0 Disagree0

Reina was a donkey the last 3 years error prone and no confidence going true the team the defenders no that they can rely on mignolet top class

Just to take a moment away from the massive game in a few hours, a question for the regulars on here and hopefully one of the ed's if they have some time. When does cheating get drilled into players? Weather it be diving, play acting, claiming throw in's/corner's knowing the ball hit you last, or even the wall creeping forward its all rife in the game. I'd like to think the younger lads breaking through see the pro's doing and just copy, but kids like Barkley are just starting out and he's already diving around, booked for it in fact. So it must be taught a youth level, not that i'm naive enough to think the Liverpool players are innocent.
The argument used to be its just the foreign lads taking dives and rolling around but James Milner has won two penalties in one week going to ground willingly. I think the worst thing is it could so easily be stopped but it seems to be accepted, for me the games dies a little bit more every time a 'pundit' says, "he should have gone down there."

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's not taught mate. The consequences just aren't severe enough for people to stop. It's discouraged, that's all.

cheers

Agree0 Disagree0

I think of it all as part of the game these days. Like it or not I doubt it will ever go away. I think Suarez just looks after himself by going down easily. Defenders know if they croc him it will likely cost a red card and Suarez is rarely injured (if fact never seems to get injured).

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm an early teen playing at a good level (my team contains a few academy players), and already things like that are creeping into our game.
Even I nicknamed 'Chopper Todd' will go down with any slight contact if it puts me off balance a little but, that said, I despise diving.
I will also appeal for the throw in/ corner if I know it has come off me against a rival or team I hate because my will to win overpowers.
It may not be pleasant or even morally right but, in my mind, it's the result and performances that matter, and if I can gain us possession of the ball I will do my best, but diving, even for someone as competitive as myself, is too far. Milner, however was right to go down yesterday.

Borini just isn't cutting it in the Premier League. I think he will be gone come the summer, probably to Italy where he is still highly rated. Not criticising him or Rodgers (not all signings are successful) but it should serve as a lesson to the club that sometimes it is better to pay that few million extra to get proven quality. Aspas is another one I can't see staying for too much longer if he doesn't push on and continues to warm the bench.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

15 Dec 2013 12:12:23
Spot on. We should have never gambled upon him. provided we are short of Money.
Same goes here with CM option. We should get a proven one rather than another Gamble.
Not everyone clicks like Coutinho.

Agree0 Disagree0

But what ya ment to do when you have a small budget and need players if ya budget is 35 million and need 3 or 4 players what ya going to do pay 20 for one and 5 on another 3 like were doing the best on a small budget

Agree0 Disagree0

That's why you spend less
Money. I'm sure you guys were preaching for lamela and his proven talent. You just don't get it. It's infuriating.

Agree0 Disagree0

Still think aspas might come good, has the right technique to fit into our system and seems to have good movement and can play in different positions. Borini I don't get, always hoped he would come good but just don't see where he is meant to play. Won't start up top (SAS) and isn't effective wide. But think the biggest limitation is the physicality of the BPL, both are a bit small and lack pace to compensate for it. But still think Aspas may make it if we can try ease him in ideally in the FA cup game or time off the bench if we get a good lead. Maybe after we go 3 up today and spurs get a player sent off. being optimistic

Agree0 Disagree0

This what I've said for ages. For 2x 8mil players you end up with 2 bench warmers. And for 16mil you get a firts team ready player.

Obviously there are exceptions but sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture.

Hope the lads put up a good fight today, hoping for a fluid passing midfield.

Agree0 Disagree0

So bring aspas on?

hi eds
just like to say gutted for steve clarke thought he done a very good job at west brom just shows how things can turn sour, I know brendan has his own team around him but if we were to bring back steve clarke as a coach could he be the key to locking r leaky defence.i would reackon the likes of chelsea will be looking him back in that capacity though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Yes it's unfortunate. His problem was they over achieved massively last season so his 2nd season was always going to be hard. Don't forget how important Lukaku was for them! Everton will discover that next year.
Cant see him wanting to be a number 2 again.

Agree0 Disagree0

You think he did a good job?
7 wins in 34 games
I like the bloke but he's been poor at WBA he's got some very good players there and should be at least mid table

Looking at all the injuries and the fact LFC haven't got anything from white hart lane in years I'd happily take a point today. Can't see it though! Hope I'm wrong.

guys don't get wound up by Ozone's post he is here just to wind up everyone as I am certain no Liverpool supporter would be gloating about us being 5th when we have a game in hand! If we win tomorrow he will not say anything until a slip up.

He never supports us when were winning and only seems to be in a weird way happy when were losing (his happy is just moaning) can't wait for the game tomorrow if we win I will be so buzzing! 2nd 2 points off 1st!

Also shocked by Clarke getting sacked ridiculous not to give a manager time. Look at pardrew! Good luck to him!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Is that right RedTwist. Listen, Rodgers is way out of his depth, he's a youth coach, not a manager. He'd be good for the Acadamy but besides, Sturridge, Phil and Mig, I'm sick to death of his pointless signings who aren't good enough for the first team. Between now and the new year is when we'll get hurt for it. Everton have a better squad than us and they've spent nothing, the players they've brought in play on a Saturday, they haven't been acquired to p, ay in their Acadamy. I was desperately hoping FSG brought in Martinez but unfortunately we got the 'Yes' man instead.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said lad. Hope we don't get beat today otherwise we will have a week of depressing posts. All away games can be cancelled out by beating them at home, so a draw is sufficient.

Im pretty certain after going through ozones posts that he is actually a bitter. no way a true lpool fan create a relentless barage of negativity about our wonderfull club. This latest statement by him confirms it for me.

Ozone.
You are delude big time. Martinez would have been worse. he is doing ok at Everton. Take out Lukaku. and they would be next west brom.
The only Disappointment I have with BR is some, In-fact most of his Transfers has been shocking.
BR has learned from his lessons and let's see what he brings in summer.

Agree0 Disagree0

I've watched this war of attrition between Ozone and other posters.

Seriously Ozone, what do you get from your incessant, negative posts?

Agree0 Disagree0

You are nothing but a hypocrite Ozone. I remember you slating Sturridge and Coutinho when they were bought.

Desperately hoping for Martinez? You should try a career in Stand-up man.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ozone I'm not quite sure how you are judging Aspas on a few games, trying to adjust to a new league and then set back by injuries. Allen a young player who also got set back by injury.

Even if they don't make it he's clearly looking for players that are in the price range and available which are capable but are a gamble some pay off like the ones you've mentioned or sometimes they don't. We could possibly go second in the league. Martinez is a good manager but it could still go wrong (Steve clark)

Fair enough have an opinion on Rodgers or our squad but why not actually admit when we are doing well? If we win today will you come back on the site and hold your hands up?

Agree0 Disagree0

For what it's worth, he's definitely not on our side

Massive, massive next few games.very, very tough but .
If we get it right, who knows?
No Sturridge. No Gerrard. No Enrique. No Rush.
But we do have Coutinho, Suarez, Mignolet etc.
Sir Bill used to say "one game at a time" and we have to treat December like that.
Spurs away is winnable. they have a squad full of money but haven't gelled yet. Captain Luis can steer us through the storm and 3pts in North London would be an incredible boost.
Let's play Spurs away like a cup final and pick our STRONGEST available team:
I would say that means leaving Flannagan, Skrtel and Sterling on the sidelines.
I want to see Toure and Sakho bossing the back with Cissokho and Johnson making up the Harlem Globetrotters.
Graft from Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson and maybe Joe Allen.
Coutinho, Moses and Luis Suarez will pack a punch up-front and we could even have a decent bench.
Don't try to be clever Bren, Just pick the men for the job.

I think its a disgrace West Brom have sacked Steve Clark. But we could offer him a defensive coach role until he gets back into management as he would help us out massively. Just a thought.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would he want to become a defensive coach.
