Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

///Post in rumors and widget///
I would like to express my gratitude and deep appreciation for the team (especially Ed002 :-)) ) for all the time and money (yes) they put into this gig. I only visit here when I have new information, but during these short periods I can always notice how hard they try to answer every question, even though they are being repeated over and over again. Sometimes 002 gets a little frustrated and has to remind about the search function :-) but in all fairness, I have to say that all of this is a very beautiful and a selfless effort and I thank them for it.
-=Solar=- {Ed001's Note - to be fair to 002, her hormones are all over the place at times...... Thank you Solar, good to see you around mate.}

I Think it's Fletcher from wolves Liverpool are after would be top player , we should have signed Kenny Miller when wolves were up last time forget Villa etc this lad can finish

Fletcher is an underrated player. Would score goals for us.

Chuck Norris

Also Fletcher is Liverpool through and through. I think he would jump at the chance to join us.

Gazza

Dame N'Doye to Liverpool!? What do u guys think?

LFCopenhagen

I'd rather have Dame N'Duff

Ed's.

You keep saying to use the search function.

I do use it, but at times I find it annoying when you can't see replies to posts if you find a post via the search function.

If you improve this, it is a possibility that less people will ask you questions where you reply 'Is the search function broken?' or something similar.

It would help both you and the rest of us readers, so any improvements would be great.

Thanks, James. {Ed001's Note - I think you will find most people ask out of sheer laziness, nothing to do with the search function's abilities or lack thereof. But I will get that looked into when there is time.}

15 Dec 2011 22:56:49
people stop bugging the eds, i think they have made it pretty clear that the most likely signings may be de jong, sissoko and maybe ramirez

15 Dec 2011 22:43:59
We should try and sign Walcott from Arsenal

And stop disturbing the eds with silly questions regarding rumours,Its not like he knows the players personally..Great work eds keep it up

No we shouldn't.

How do u know none of the eds know any of the players personally?

Walcott seems to be finally staying injury free and producing consistently this season, but why would Arsenal sell?

Chuck Norris

They would sell because he is English, Wenger doesn't like to keep English players for very long.

Let's just hope we're there when we wants to chuck Ramsey out (and yes, he is Welsh I know, but they are all the same to him).

15 Dec 2011 22:41:04
I know your always looking for a speedie winger? how about townsend of spurs? during the summer walcott, townsend, lennon & fredricks (spurs) had two races one a straight sprint & the other with a ball, lennon won the ball sprint, but the straight sprint townsend came first, fredricks came 2nd walcott 3rd and lennon 4th, townsend will be shown the door either in jan or the summer due to a training ground bust up.

Shame he sucks {Ed001's Note - you are joking right? He is a very good young player.}

Townsend played last night. Looks a good prospect. Sure they will keep him for when Bale leaves in the summer.

Chuck Norris

15 Dec 2011 21:52:58
Just the ideal young winger for LFC... Birmingham's 17 yr old Redmond...only thing is liverpool never play their youngsters...good enough..old enough...should be the policy

Serious MOTM fever. good player but still young

Danny

Liverpool never play their youngsters?

What about Flannagan, Robinson and Kelly
Did they never play?

15 Dec 2011 21:27:03
No point to this post other than thinking about so many great players to have been and gone from our club and still ply their trade at the highest level.

Ex Liverpool first XI

.................Dudek................

Arbeloa......Warnock..........Riise

Merieles........Alonso.........Murphy......Benayoun

Torres......Owen........Keane

bit weak at the back but impressive in attack....

Bit weak? that team would leak goals. haha
good attack I would say but i must say i've never been a fan of robbie keane.I almost forget he actually was a liverpool player he was awful.

Danny

I forgot to mention Mascherano of course

Cole and Aquilani dont really count as they are still technically our players

Id have Alonso and Benny but the rest dont offer much any more. i think we were right to sell them when we did.

cozinoz

None of them are great players, with the exception of Torres

I think RIISE has to be there amongst the best when he was playing for us. We could never replace him well in the 2 years until Jose Enrique came over.

Riise, Torres and Alonso for me. Torres may have betrayed us but he did not go to Man Utd and was pure class.

mgz1985

I stopped bothering when I saw Warnock in central defence

Mr Controversy

How did the ressies do tonight against the mancs?only just got home and missed it on lfc tv :(
Thanks

King luis

Lost 4-0 and Suso got sent off. No joke either.

RenegadeRed

Got beat 4-0

Thanks people.heard it wasn't a red card.

King luis

If anyone saw the game I'm sure you'll agree that Suso's sending off was an absolute joke. Something really has to be done about these referees. They are ruining games

The referee came out in a BLACK shirt - that's how good his eye sight was - he had to a YELLOW shirt to avoid being seen as a Liverpool player - should have put a RED shirt on - he was United's 12th man - 3 bad tackles from Gibson not even a yellow - how old was he - even the commentators called him a milk monitor -

It was actually light blue

4 - 0 not the ref gents. Played poorly.

Chuck Norris

It never is a red card - is it?

15 Dec 2011 21:12:04
Got tickets for the fa cup and carling cup 2nd leg games,I wanted to no will they be recorded on my membership as a epl home game,I'm trying to attend atleast 13 home game this year because then I will have first picks next year on games

Hi ed,

where did the rumour regarding the move to stanley park originate?

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, but if I had to guess I am going to say Hebden Bridge - but I must stress it is only a guess.}

Funny.

I meant, did the information come out of LFC or is it just speculation?

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - We should await an announcement or press release.}

Is that Ebdon Bridge,the UFO sighting centre of Europe? I dropped a window pane there back in the day. Great place.
Unclemeat..... {Ed002's Note - Ah, window panes.}

15 Dec 2011 20:53:54
hi eds. has your your hyperlink for "club rumours" on the main site been removed? i can only access the liverpool forums by typing the exact url? just thought i would let you know {Ed002's Note - I'll ask for someone to check. Thanks.}

Yes im having the same problem. billy

15 Dec 2011 20:52:04
guys are we realy still talking about torres!? get a grip, hes not coming back, can we please start looking too the future.
eds i think any more torres talk should be banned??
harry h

Harry, I know the Torres talk can be frustrating, but all of deep down are still hurt by his departure. He was a brilliant player for us. Yes we are right to question his attitude before he left, it still left a big void that still needs to be filled. As a footballer he is fantastic and will return to something like his best. I

**e***** is back long live **e*****

Give us a clue? I was never
very good at crosswords! {Ed002's Note - A newbie then.}

Wahey !
Give us one of your specials mate. What's going down ?
The Real KB

Our founding father is back, you've been sorely missed. How've you been mate, was Parkhurst rough?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Spearing is back?

JRG

?????

Its steven gerrard

I thought he had been flushed long ago :)

cozinoz

Haha you'll soon work it out guys, don't worry.
KiwiRed

Thank god he's back we've missed all the useless, inane and laughable rumours he came out with!

15 Dec 2011 20:41:22
why dont liverpool just buy berbatov. hes cheap and he was top goalscorer last season. i think he will partner suarez well. suarez puts the effort in and berbatov will get the goals

Do you mean the lazy Bulgarian, who is on massive wages and on the wrong side of 30?

Sounds great!

KT!

Because he is about as useful as a Dimitar Berbatov

What about going all out and going
after Rooney? I actually think some fans
would welcome him at LFC more than
they would Torres.

What a silly comment.....we should of signed berbatov in 2004/2005! not now, hes far too old and a manc!

He might be cheap mate, he might've been the top goalscorer last season but HE'S H*CKN CRAP!

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Ps. Wait for RedTurk's response saying 'He'd still be better than Andy Carroll' lol

Blair.
What have you done? It's gonna be an extra negative rant now.

KT!

Then expect the usual BS, KT! mate. You have to admit, he's consistant. lol

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

15 Dec 2011 20:18:51
This is more of a question if suarez is banned then would we buy back EL NINO back??

Absolutely yes we are going to bid for Torres, but only if we are officially barred from bidding for any other striker in the world. Otherwise no chance.

So no chance.

No no no no no no no no no

Torres is not for sale. If he was, do you think a) Roman would sell him back to US at a cut down price b) Kenny would want an out of form striker that did not to play for him 12 months ago and c) he would have the steel to come back to Liverpool after the comments he made?
Ponder all that for a while...

Myk

NNNNNNNNNooooooooooooo! Will people please please please STOP IT!!!!!

15 Dec 2011 20:13:34
Harry Redknapp said something recently which I had been thinking for some time. Although I worry that it might not be normal to be thinking the same thoughts as Harry Redknapp, I have worked up my courage, and will now put the case to you, the rumor people . . . well, why NOT put two referees on the pitch? A similar arrangement works well enough in basketball and hockey. What say you, stodgy traditionalists?

John from CT, foreigner, heretic

What happens if they disagree on a decision??

Because it's a fuggin stupid idea

Chris in Tamworth

Surely you'd just get twice as many mistakes? ;)

JRG

Personally I think we should adopt a similar technology to hockey, I'm an avid watcher and its extremely rare they get bad calls in hockey. Takes less than 10 seconds.

Rewflo

Can you imagine TWO Howard Webbs ?
Lol
The Real KB

Disagree of a decision - impossible
man united would buy both of them.

What would happen if the 2 refs didn't agree on a decision?

Stupid idea.

KT!

There would be only 1 way to resolve a disagreement... FIGHT...!

Myk

They discuss. One or the other will likely be in a better position to make the call.

I would definitely bring in goal line technology. Thats about it for me. I believe that any technology has to be available for any league and not just the big leagues. Can't see any cameras going to be available for 2nd division matches. Has to be fair that every body benefits from it.

But if by some miracle it was allowed by FIFA it would have to be the same idea as tennis where the captain has 2 or 3 challenges to a refereeing decision. Couldn't be doing with the game being stopped and held up to see who actually knocked the ball out for a throw in.

Gazza

If we're gonna meddle with the traditional ref format, why not just use camera technology ?
Same as rugby league. Works well in that sport.
The Real KB

Why don't we just get ONE good ref... -McMenemy

Chris in Tamworth, you may not say "huggin" on this board. Bailiff, take him away! Hmm, referees fighting over a call IS appealing and would be good value for the fans. Two Howard Webbs would never be allowed to work the same game. Look, I'm just saying this works in other sports, so why not give it a go. Could it really be worse?

John from CT

Will the refs have their pay cut in half because they're only doing half of a half-decent job?

LIVERPRES

If Howard Webb was one and he was involved in a m.u. match he would probably send the other referee off and award m.u. a penalty!!
DM

How about two balls?

Forget it, lets have no refs and let the players sort it out

Not two refs, just the 4th official with a monitor will do

Like they do in rugby, try or no try?.....
but in football
can you see any reason for me not to award a penatly?
or
can you see any reason for me not to award a goal?

the 4 official is there just to give a helping hand in the box nothing else. thats why there is a ref and his linesmen.

Lets widen the goals

I'd go further, two refs, 4 lines men/women and a 4th official with video!

Player to be signed in Jan will suprise all, including the eds when Macca reveals the truth in 2 weeks time!

Macca can you reply to this, is someone pulling our leg here or does he have a point?RedTurk

After become free from his previous
commitments on boxing day, Liverpool
will sign santa clause to cover the
defensive midfield role. He has already
started the same miracle fitness training
that has worked so well for Charlie Adam.

Macca's missuss? Is that you?

I always reonned Santa was a Liverpool fan.

Realistic RED

Santa is a Crewe Alexander fan he told me thats where his colours come from

Santa was originally green. Only changed when coke put him in red for their ad campaigns. True fact

15 Dec 2011 19:39:56
Eds, do you think if Liverpool we're offered a massive
bid for Suarez (say 50 mil like for Torres) they would
consider selling him in January? {Ed001's Note - not unless a replacement was brought in and we were left with enough to get another player as well.}

15 Dec 2011 19:33:33
Did any one see Suso's red. Don't think he did deserve even a yellow for that. Oh man, Mancs have bought them for their reserves, too. absolutely awful.

And they always moan about Suarez overreacting to fouls!

JRG

It was 6 of an half a dozen of the other, he shouldn't have kept his feet in the air like that though

Myk

Ok you run fall over like that and see if you can help it.

Haha ed2 made a funny

I am not an Ed but the type of players we need are good un's

i live in mill hill in nw in london in local pub keep hearing rumours very strong torres is going back to liverpool even though avb says hes not for sale mostly blue supporters i dont think they want him anymore im a liverpool supporter and dont want him back would rather have poldolski ed is he coming back stories wont die down gathering pace everywhere there must be some truth for avb to come out with this {Ed002's Note - This has been asked and answered dozens of times since yesterday.}

Says on espn that kenny refuses to talk about torres to liverpool rumours

Kenny doesn't talk about any transfers because that's the Liverpool way.

KT!

Yes he does talk about transfers (if we have funds available,if we will use the funds we have or not etc),but he won't speculate on players belonging to other clubs BECAUSE THE LIVERPOOL WAY IS TO DO BUSINESS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN PRIVATE YNWA !

No that's not him talking about transfers, that's him saying there is money avaliable if he wishes.

Love the way he dodges questions, the press just don't know how to respond.

KT!

Question for Macca as he is the only one I trust. Ed2 said all of this about the new stadium
“There are five options as I see it: (1) New build to an existing “approved” design commissioned by the previous owners. This has the benefit of being the quickest and most economic way forward as far as a new build goes and I recall the fans being impressed with the designs. (2) New build to the design of an existing stadium (e.g. the Allianz Arena). This would save considerably on architects fees but may prove problematic in other areas – but may be more viable than folks realise. (3) New build to a completely new design. It will cost considerably more and take much longer to go down this route. This has to be a high-risk option. (4) Redevelopment of Anfield to add 12-15k seats that FSG would like to see. Economically this would seem to be the option that would give the best return on investment, but this is the option that is hampered by local planning regulations. My feeling is that this is seemingly the option that most fans would prefer. (5) A phased improvement and redevelopment of Anfield to bring the stadium up to code and to perhaps add some additional seating. This would provide a medium term solution that only moves the real issue to the right, but it would possibly facilitate the inclusion of the full quota of additional seating at a later date. My assumption was always that any naming right deal would be for a new build and not for a redeveloped Anfield. I don't know if anything has changed in respect of that. I also don't know if FSG are actively trying to find a way to overcome planning regulation restrictions that would allow them to eventually add the additional seating at Anfield that they desire. Building a new stadium is going to mean a very large loan being taken on and even though sponsorship will cover much of the cost year on year, it can possibly be seen as an albatross that FSG may not want hanging around their neck. My own view at this time is that the club will look at a phased improvement of Anfield hoping that a way can be found to add the additional seating in the not too distant future.”
I do not trust Ed2 and know he must have copied this from a newspaper. Your reputation Macca is the best on this wonderful site and I would like for you to tell me if any of this is true.
Palanival
{Ed002's Note -

Lost for words ed002?
Can't believe the cheek of some people.

MIKEY {Ed002's Note - Yeah, I was going to put something in reply to my copying the post from a newspaper, but decided not to. To be fair there was no abuse or malice but it may have just been easier to ask Macca about news on the stadium.}

'I do not trust Ed2' How may times does she have to prove herself? Ed002 has been consistently correct and has more info than any of the newspapers

In response to your 5 options:

1. As long as the application is still 'live' - ie, remedial works have started within 3 years from Approval, then this is an option.

2. Not an option. An existing design (such as the Allianz) does not mean that money can be saved on fees. The design would need to be adapted to the context and the detailed drawings prepared by Architects, Engineers etc. There is no cost saving here. Also, a generic stadium is not what we want.

3. New build to a new design. If this is not already underway, this option is lengthy. A new application would need to be prepared, submitted to Liverpool Council and negotiated over a period of many months. This would also have to consider Section 106 payments to the Council and a complete new design appraisal of the chosen site and surrounding areas. Once a consent is granted, a full detailed drawing process would begin - again, this will take many months to prepare (after already taking many months for the Council to approve). I would put this process at about 18 months before we even start to build - and a two year building programme.

4. Redeveloping Anfield. Again, all designs will need to be approved by Liverpool Council. The purchases of surrounding properties and land will need to be negotiated. A complete new appraisal of the whole Anfield area will need to be prepared - highways, commerce, impact on surroundings etc. This process will take a while - I'm sure FSG began this as soon as they bought the club as this seems to be their preference. Again, this process will take a while and lead to smaller attendances whilst works are being carried out - but I think this is where we are going.

5. See 4 above.

Conclusion:

It is my belief that Anfield will be redeveloped and that studies into this have been underway for many months now - perhaps to the point that a Planning Application may be nearly ready for submission following already extensive talks with the Couoncil. If so, I would expect LFC to begin on site either during next summer or the summer after.

I hope this helps.

KT

PS - I trust Ed002 with my life (but not my wife). {Ed002's Note - Thanks for the input. As for your wife, that is all in the past now.}

Good post KT.

Eds, when will we here the outcome of the Suarez situation, both have given evidence according to skysports.

eds do you think with the lack of goals we would bring in rodallega in january. would this ever happen? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Dont want or need him, we are Liverpool FC we should not be looking at these average players.

BigD

His goal tally for this season is 0

red_raj

So your plan to conter act the fact that our strikers arn't in form is to bring in a striker who is on worse form.... -McMenemy

Why , you have an average squad ??

15 Dec 2011 17:08:55
Hi Ed & or Macca,
Sorry to drop this question, but do you think we will sign another striker this Jan, & if so who do you think we would consider?
Mike {Ed002's Note - There is a good chance but we cannot give you names.}

Ed can you not give names as you are not allowed, don't want to speculate and get abuse or you just don't know who exactly?

KopEndDannyLFC {Ed002's Note - Because we do not know who will be arriving. Where the club has a confirmed an interest in a player we have said, but we are not going to start guessing at lists.}

But can we have an opinion? {Ed002's Note - The opinion was given in the original answe "there is a good chance". I suspect taht a couple of players will arrive but as of this time I don't know who they will be - and cannot even say who the most likely would be. We know there has been confirmed interest in several (De Jong, Soldado etc._ but there is absolutely nothing to say what is going to happen. Dalglish has given nothing away and has said no DM but been coy over a striker - so maybe. Information from other clubs and agents gives confirmation, but then you get a few pseudo-agents (who are generally just advisors or representatives in certain areas) coming out and making misleading statements. Liverpool is rebuilding but the bulk of the shopping was done in the summer. I suspect that they would rather not spend anything in the winter and wait until the summer when it will be known about European competition for next year. However, as I suggested before cover may be bought in for players leaving, injuries if cover does not already exist or to fill any shortcomings in the side. The argument that adding Higuain and Hazard at £90M now will guarantee Champions League really does not hold up and is simply not going to happen. Liverpool have responsible owners moving in the right direction with the club. They are not going to wreck it by increasing annual losses and building significant debt.}

Sounds to me like Ed002 is very cleverly dropping a hint without giving the game away. I'm off to get my Hazard shirt printed.

Hello, are there any truth in the Scott Sinclair rumours? I've heard it before, and it's on twitter now so I'm just wondering. I would like to see this deal happen. Then of course everybody wants a striker but everybody is a dreamer, stupid idiots talking about a Torres return and so on... Good site btw

BREAKING NEWS

Silly season is here again and it is time for me to pass on the 100% rock solid information that I have received from my whopper source, who is a big player in the world of making $h1t up. It appears we will definatly sign Gaston Rameirez, I know we are linked with all Uruguayan players but this one seems to have a bit of legs to it. Now as most people will know the Uruguayan team are based at clubs all over the world, as a result of this they have to do a lot of travelling for the international team, in order to make this a little easier players are encouraged to bring their pets on the road with them, now Luis is a cat man, so too in Rameiriz, and while away on international duty Luis' cat Pistelero got very comfortable with Gaston's cat Tiddles, they had a couple of milks 1 thing led to another and now there are kittens involved. Gaston Rameiriez is willing to come to Liverpool to make his cat happy, he also feels Luis and Pistelero should share in the responsibilities that a full litter of kittens brings, and with Luis' behaviour under scrutiny at the moment the club don't want him to be seen as a man who helped break up a happy family of cats, so they are willing to spend what ever it takes to make sure this is not the case. This is 100% true, straight from the cats mouth!!

I heard this too. Its all over the cat pages.

There was a black cat involved KB that is why Liverpool will spend whatever it takes to bring Gaston and Tiddles to Liverpool.

Your are all weired!

I asked the cat whether he could get his claws into this story. He said he'd reply himself but he's having trouble double clicking his mouse. He wants to know if this new guy will be a big cheese or just a little nibble? He's gone off to fish for fresh rumours now, so you're on your own with this one. Miaow.

Guys, I wouldn't get your hopes up for this to happen for them to be dashed. You'll just end up crying over spilt milk once again.

15 Dec 2011 15:22:25
so ed you think you no everything about torres and saying he not come back but you say adam johnson could come even though he only sighned a new contract a couple of months ago {Ed001's Note - there is a huge difference between the two. Kenny would love to sign Johnson but has absolutely no interest in signing Torres.}

Some people are right hypocrites, going on about loyalty , when you dont show any yourselves.Dirk kuyt is a true red, loves the club and you were singing his praises last year saying he's world class, but a dip in form and he's 'deadwood'.

I am a die-hard fan and get behind all players. However anybody who calls dirk kuyt world class obviously knows nothing about football. He works tirelessly for the team and sometimes gets into good goal scoring positions. He is distinctively average to bad at everything else. Saying that I still love the man, despite him refusing to let me get a photo wen I met him in blockbuster (his prerogative).

P.s I know u are not stating he is world class but rather pointing the finger at fickle fans which this football club could do without.

Ed what is the likelihood of the following players being bought either in January or the summer.
a. Luuk de Jong
b. Lukas Podolski
c. Christian Eriksen
d. Leandro Damiao
e. Marco Reus
f. Arjen Robben

Thanks Ed, keep up the excellent work. {Ed002's Note - We are not going to go down this road - the summer is a long way off and we have answered about these players enough times already.}

Couple of questions for the Eds,

1) Is there any interest from Liverpool in Milos Krasic?

Think if we could bring him on loan (with an option to sign him at the end of the season or not) it would be a very good signing for the much needed right wing position.

2) Is there any interest from Liverpool in Porto's Guarin?

It seems like we have interest in Fernando but in my view Guarin is the better player, does the defensive midfield job well plus excellent in going forward.

And some one from Bahia International told me that Liverpool are keeping tabs on number of their clients.

Also I expect Dirk Kuyt to leave in January if we are to sign two or three signings. (Another striker = Luuke De Jong looking very much possible, a right winger & a DM).

Armando {Ed002's Note - Juventus will be open to good offers for Krasic at some point but it is unclear if the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Malaga and Roma are still interested in a player who has not taken well to sitting on the sidelines. The player has declared his interest in Manchester United and it is not out of the question that they may be interested in Krasic. Juventus may value the player out of the winter window though. There is at least one person at Chelsea who very much likes the player and may wish to revisit earlier interest. Nothing from Liverpool. There is no interest in Fredy Guarin. As for Bahia, I have no idea what they were telling you but it is of course BS - or could it be Torres???? I don't expect Kuyt to leave in January.}

We won't sign Krasic, he is a winger and too skillful.

There seems to be a belief that we are possibly after 2 players this window and although the Ed's wont confirm anything reading between the lines it sounds like sissoko and de Jong. Obviously Ed's wont confirm. I'm a bit worried that with us not scoring at the momment we are only in contention due to been the best defensively in the league and that this is due in part to Lucas. Now when he was unfairly getting crucified names like Gago were getting mentioned, he is currently on loan at Roma and I was wondering if a deal could be done, possibly take over the loan with a to buy if succesfull? {Ed002's Note - It is not that we won't confirm anything, it is that we cannot confirm anything.}

15 Dec 2011 14:10:32
You know when people ask for a world class winger nowadays, what exactly do they expect from this winger?

By describing a player as a 'winger' implies an attacking instinct only. Someone who can get at the full back, so pace and the ability to dribble with the ball, deliver a damn good cross, so technique with the ball……and that's it?

This type of player is a luxury that no one can ill afford unless he is out of the highest draw. We cannot afford this player, there is only one of his kind, currently in the World today. Luckily for past players like Stanley Matthews he was born before the era of the modern day midfielder, otherwise he would not have made it past the coaches who make the decisions at 15 years of age.

The term winger no longer applies in my opinion. This player has to be a sided midfielder capable of the above whilst at the same time, putting in a shift to help defensively and it is this area that hardly anyone can tick that box.

Modern day football revolves around the ability to change formation when on or off the ball. So the set up of 4-4-2 becomes 2-3-2-3 when attacking, full backs do more wing work nowadays than ever before. Central midfielders do more defensive work than ever before. When the side loses the ball high up the pitch, the side will very quickly become 4-5-1. It needs players to slot in at full back whilst the full back recovers from his foray up the line, into central defence and strikers to be able to fall back and assist their colleagues in the middle or down the flanks.

Wingers, by and large are bone Rodney idle when it comes to doing the donkey work. They don't want to do it, it's not natural for them to do it and they are either slow at reacting to possession being lost and/or they are pretty poor/weak in defending in any event.

Too much of one thing stunts the advantage in the other and vice versa. Let's take Nani for example. A complete and utter waste of time away from home on the whole. Doesn't offer anything and doesn't get on the ball often enough to warrant being the luxury. At home, he does give the team a lot more attacking threat, but as we have seen in the CL games, if the away teams set up to counter attack hard and shift play quickly, he fast becomes on the periphery of the game and it passes him by. In other words, if you're on song and buzzing, then a player like Nani will come to the party big time. The rest of the time you can forget it. The same applies to Ashley Young. A recipe for disaster having both in the team. You could gamble on having 9 players for half an hour of the game.

We currently have Dirk Kuyt as our right sided attacking option and whilst Dalglish does not see him in that role, he has held it for a long period of time. This lad works his socks off when we're off the ball, defensively he is very good, good in the air, good tackler, thinks like a defender when we lose the ball, reacts quickly and gets back into position. The problem is he cannot 'ghost' past full backs or make things happen in the last third of the pitch that you need. We've all seen him pick the ball up, then hold it up, play it sideways or backwards as he hasn't the guile, pace or ability to skin the full back. He can't get in behind the full back either. That said he does have a natural attacking instinct which does help the team when he makes runs inside.

We need a better version of Dirk Kuyt. Someone who has all the attributes of Kuyt but can improve on the areas where Kuyt is weak.

I can remember the clamour for Richardo Quresma (sp) a few years ago. Another who was out of the Portugal wingers academy and another who proved the Premier League was too hot for him to handle. Utter lightweight. Then there's Arda Turan who doesn't appear to be pulling up trees in La Liga from what I've seen of him.

Stevie Gerrard in his early years would be an ideal player for this position. Pace, power, great engine, great mobility, great on the ball and boy could he tackle and defend? That's the type and sort of player we need to be looking at. Shouldn't be too difficult to find!!

Not the fairy, twinkle toes, lazy show boaters that many believe is the answer. Not for me.

Bob the Red

There is a player in europe that has all those attributes you talk about, pace, power, speed, can shoot, tackle, cross, run with the ball and thats the lad at barcelona, Ibrahim Afellay, the young dutch lad. Could be worth having a crack at getting him aswell as he doesnt play regulary for barcelona and would relish some first team oppurtunities before the summer with the European Championships coming up as he would obviously like to be involved in that with holland. Maybe even worth a crack at getting him on loan until the end of the season with a view to buying him in the summer. {Ed001's Note - you do know he has a cruciate ligament injury that has ruled him out for the season don't you? Also stopped him playing regularly for Barca this season....}

Interesting post Bob.
I absolutely concur with your opinion about Gerrard as a wide midfielder. We saw how good he was there when Rafa played him three or four seasons ago. He could probably still do it but we'll have to see how he recovers from his injuries. Don't think Kenny would pick him there unless we were desperate though.

What you said about a Kuyt-type replacement is true also. Let's say a Kuyt with pace !
That would do me.

The traditional style winger ; they do, and always have, drifted out of games.
I feel if you're gonna play them, the team has to constantly feed them possession.
It's like a gambler's choice really, I feel. It could pay off or it may break down.
I have to admit to admiration for Ferguson at Utd. He has always gone for attacking wingers, home or away.
The team, and the manager's mentality, are set up for it.
On the whole, apart from European football, Ferguson's teams go all out to attack. It's got him results mate, you can't argue about that.

I don't think this is Kenny's way. He seems to like having that option, don't get me wrong. But it's horses for courses with Kenny.
I don'y know anything about this Luuk de Jong guy, so I can't comment on him. I just hope he has decent pace though. Please !
I also have a sneaky feeling that we may go for a Matt Jarvis-type player. You know, honest, decent, Prem-proven. That will put in the shift you spoke of, and give you 7/10 performances on a regular basis.

Great post as usual Bob. It's a real head-thinker this one.

The Real KB

I wasnt aware of Afellays injury as being that serious, thanks Ed. Shame coz I think hes a crackin player and is someone who I think could fit in well at Anfield. {Ed001's Note - excellent player, Barca got lucky getting him so cheap.}

Them next door have a young lad who I think has got the potential to be a very good right sided player - Seamus Coleman. {Ed001's Note - what is good about Coleman? Even most Everton fans are not impressed with him on the wing, they think he lacks the ability to operate from there.}

Arda Turan has been awesome so far for Athletico.

Eds in the January window,
what do you think are the chances of
Chelsea selling Torres back to Athletico,
to help fund Chelsea to buy Modric from Spurs
Spurs could then buy Carlos Tevez from City,
and City could buy Muniain to replace Tevez
And we could then buy Aguero,

QUOTE "Fowler and Rush didn't want to go. Owen and Torres did. That is the difference. RED LENIN"

Good man Red Lenin. Both engineered moves away from the club. Either fans want this ilk of person playing for the club or they have atrocious memory's.

I will say though Torres is probably second in the all time list of players at the club who have been the most dis-loyal.

It says more about the fans wanting him back than of the selfish, dirty toad called Torres who hated the club so much he couldn't wait to get out.

The club doesn't want him back, he doesn't want to come back, the written media must be laughing at how easy it is to stoke up the fans and get them in a lather.

Amazes me how much mileage has been made in what is, in actual fact, idle gossip by useless, lazy scribes who must have been bored one afternoon or given 10 mins to come up with a back page story.

15 Dec 2011 12:26:05
i hope the rumours a true id love to see torres back at liverpool

Fernando..........is this you?????? :-)

Don't be daft mate. This is getting ridiculously frustrating. Read Bob the Red's post, Red Lenin also nailed it yesterday. torres won't return and I'm gobsmacked that the idea is seriously being bandied around and entertained by some fans. It beggars belief. Would you not prefer someone Lucas, Gerrard, Carragher-esqe who knows the Liverpool way, understands what it means wearing the red of Liverpool FC, displaying a passion second to none each game, a desire to give 110% to see Liverpool successful and at the top, NEVER give up, demonstrating commitment and loyalty for the Club alone - Like Rush and Fowler.

torres gave up and looked for excuses, he continues to look for excuses on why he left and he has rightfully earned the title 'mercenary'. For anyone that points to the fact that you only need to look at the first few seasons he was with us, yes you're right - torres was phenomonal. But bear in mind athletico fans were going through exactly what we went through last January when he signed for us... and isn't athletico supposedly his boyhood club? torres shows a distinct lack of commitment and has an all round poor attitude.

The current squad is beginning to get to know one another and gelling quite well. We're playing some fantastic football which will only get better as the season goes on. Do you honestly think a torres return would be beneficial, especially at this time of the season when we're aiming for a top for spot? I reckon it would jeopardize what we have already strived towards and achieved in the rebuilding process, funny enough! Definitely a back step from the progress we've made since the hodgson era.

Bob, I think you're right mate when you stated it says more about the fans who want him back. It speaks volumes mate.

I can understand one of the Ed's is getting the hump with the Torres rumours but I for one would not even entertain him, id rather try and sign someone like Defoe or Demba Ba, we need a natural finisher not a natural waste of space which Torres is proving to be, the other day Yakubu scored 4 goals in a game, when was the last time one of ours done that? Fowler? Owen?

At Club level, Maxi Rodriguez last May in the 5-2 drubbing of Craven Cottage. Coincidentally, he scored a hat-trick the month before against Birmingham when we destroyed them 5-0 at Anfield mate.

In a nutshell this is liverpools problem this season. Goals. I like Saurez but isn't he a striker? He hasn't scored many goals.. He showed much more promise last season.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/top_scorers/default.stm

Gazman

Scoring goals is all about confidence, if you don't think in your own mind you will score you probably won't.
Suarez scored last weekend he might kick on from there you never know. But the fact Anfield has gone so quiet won't help anyone, you know people hammer the Chelsea fans calling them glory hunters and 'plastic' but i watch the Chelsea - Man City game the other night and the atmosphere was fantastic. You might argue that was a big game so the fans will be more vocal, well what about Stoke their fans treat every game like a cup final, or Blackpool last year, even Portsmouth the year before.
The sooner the fans get behind the players (and i mean all of them) the better.

always a red

I agree with the OP.. I dont see Suarez as our goalscorer.. he is a playmaker, he is someone that comes up with that bit of magic that unlocks a defense that weve been missing for years and plays in someone else.. we need a poacher.. someone that reads Suarez and is there waiting for the tap ins.. Look at the QPR match.. how many times did Suarez put the ball across the face of goal with noone there to tap it in?.. Too many times! we shoulda won that game 5 0r 6 nil... Suarez will always chip in with more goals than a usual winger will simply because he is a genius.. but we need a Fowler or an Owen style player to work with him..

I think January will be quiet on our transfer front.

Can't see anybody leaving - maybe loan out a couple young players but that's all.

And can't see us busting the bank to bring in these top players quoted on here.

I dont even think we need a striker - we have Suarez, Carroll, Bellamy and Kuyt all capable strikers who 'know where the goal is' - as you are all fond of that cliche. Players like Maxi and even Downing are capable enough to play there if so need be. Plus, we have plenty of talent in our reserves to turn to if absolutely necessary. Why would we be then interested in paying stupid amounts for overpriced, overpaid, over-aged (and arguably over-rated) players?

If we are to bring in anybody it's got to be a right winger. We still haven't got a natural player there. Kuyt, Bellamy and Henderson are decent enough there, but it's only makeshift. Their best performances come when they are played in their natural areas. Hendo is lightning fast, but I just love his bursts of pace into the box. Bellamy is also rapid, but we need that pace up front more I think. Kuyt just isn't fast, but he is a work house and always gives 100% and that sort of persistence is vital sometimes. We need a natural fast right winger who can terrorise defences.

I think we are well enough equipped everywhere else and it would only hinder upcoming players chances of breaking through if we bought more.

Center mid is fine for me. If we get a right winger in, whilst Stevie and Lucas are out, we can have Adam and Henderson as first choice. Then have Spearing and Shelvey standing by unless they get loaned out.

Defence is more than okay. Agger and Skrtel are looking formidable. Carra will never let us down. We've got Wilson and Coates still to break through. Then we know our depth in full backs and keepers.

We first have to look into the result of suarez disciplinary action!

That's good why don't we get Jackie Chan to go along with Le Bron he could jump all round the goal posts and no one would get close to him either but wuold it makes sense?

Ed i consider Suarez harshly done by ......Mr.whinge {Ed002's Note - PLease just let it run its course. Again I don't wish to labour this subject but Suarez has been charged by the FA with referring to Evra's ''ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race'' as a means of abuse. I am not so sure why you think is is so hard done by as I don't think the charge is being denied per se. I suspect that the denial will be that he deliberately "racially" or otherwise abused the player - but not that he did not say any particular words. We think the defence will claim that Suarez was not aware that there was such sensitivity over the use of specific words in Europe when it is culturally acceptable in Uruguay and other parts of the world to use such terms (the ignorance defence). There will probably be a statement about the matter on Friday - lets just wait and ride out the rest of the day.}

I can't see Liverpool needing more players/quality in the squad because the squad seems very very.. complete. In my view. They've just havent performed what the players are capable of.

I can't see a new striker coming in, or defender.

What does Liverpool actually need at this time?

A striker who can find the net

A striker, right winger, defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder.

Steve

1 - A striker who can finish the chances we make.

2 - A defensive midfielder to play Lucas' position

3 - Right Winter, when is the last time we had out and out wingers?

4 (maybe) - An attacking midfielder, Stevie is still out and Henderson is vastly improving, but he's still young.

ED002

Could you please explain why no money is made off shirt sales for a football club?

I find it hard to believe that a football club would set up stores around the world selling merchandise and wave their rights to shirt sales which, I assume would be their biggest seller--thanks Finisher {Ed002's Note - If they are club stores then the club do make the merchants cut, that is the small percentage that the retailer makes. But there are not club shops around the world set up by the club. In most cases there may be a handful and these are often franchised. The bulk of shirts are sold by on line retailers and third party stores and teh club get no money from that at all. The income from shirt sales is in the sponsorship from Adidas or Warrior.}

I wish people would stop with these Torres rumours. There is no way he will be returning. It is like if I walked out on my partner when she is going through a bad time for a richer woman, then she dumps me for not performing. The last place I would want to go is back to the woman I left in the first place and have to face up to her family and friends.

Eh, why not - the prodical son in similar not the same circumstances returned and he get a warm reception

But that does not mean Torres will return he won't, just that its possible but not probable!

Was his head not turned by the money tho?

Hy ed! Great site! You have been saying that a striker is a top priority! Will that be a striker capble of playing in right hand side or two player would be brought? I think paying high odds on unproven young talent like hazard would be a high risk though i would be over a moon! So would you please make it clear wheather a striker and winger will be coming or a single player capable of doing both work is what we are looking to buy? An advance thank to your genuine answer! {Ed002's Note - WE don't know but there is zero chance it will be Hazard.}

I know people go on about resale value with players like david villa etc but surely if some of these strikers can bang in 20+ goals a season its a no brainer you would make the money back in champions league money and shirt sales alone its probably the wages which is the biggest problem not the transfer fee.
JJ blackpool {Ed002's Note - There is no money from shirt sales. If it could guarantee a champions league place it would be a no brainer.}

Problem with that is when you get the champions league money it's already gone.
Then next season we need to spend 20m on another striker cos villas too old. We need to find a younger player who can score the goals year on year.
