Any chance you can take this down Ed? It's my foolish little brother trying to wind me up. Cheers.

michael owen on his way back to us on a pay as u play deal hope this is true

kop4ever

That made me laugh lol

Why would you hope that. he brings nothing to us.
derryred

What are you talking about? hoping its true, we dont want the traitor

Haha good one! You missed April fools day by miles tho mate!

You're the only one!

MR EM

Wouldn't heve him back if he was paying us to play.

Why on earth would you want this to be true?!

I hope this never happens in a million years!

K.Bennett

Jog on ya tool

Scouseme

Kop4ever ?? and you want owen back ? you should go stand on the kop we dont want him back.......andy.

How many pieces of silver are we paying old Judas then? Cares more about his horses and having a nice warm bench to rest his lazy backside on.

So we won't lose a penny
AnfieldUSA

I think Owen's ego would stop him wanting to come back, he knows what a mistake he made and burnt his bridges, we don't want or need him. He even thinks he's too big for us

Could have been a legend, ended up a lizard, crawl back under your stone with Nando Mr Owen.

if these rumours of Everton signing belguim star kevin mirallas are true for a fee around 6m then its money well spent!

hes quick, skilful and very versitile!

its unlucky we never even inquired about him!

would like to see a player like him or suseata on the wings with suarez and borini

any thoughts on a winger/forward that is likely to join?
i think we should invest in a younger player rather than older for instance Dempsey. but thats just my opinion

Cheers eds + fellow reds!

LiamBarr1993

Tello? Walcott?!

Nah...although he would add depth to the squad he would not be in the first 11 week in and out.

I'd like Walcott, seems to improve every year unlike Mirallas who's just had one great season after some disappointing ones. Dempsey would also be a great signing, he's a goal scorer

Red Ollie

Yea but we can't have a whole team of youngsters with "potential". we need some experienced players that can hit the ground running. Dempsey has PL experience and is a proven player. so why not?

not really lfc related but i just wondered if any of you eds have tried curry goat, rice and peas and if so what you thought of it?. its well yum yum
huddz red

I had goat once when I was having tapas in fuerteventura
It was awful, it was like lamb but coated in phlegm.

Throw in a couple of festivals and a portion of plantain and its a fat meal :)

No mate I mean proper Jamaican curry goat. It's really nice and just falls off the bonehuddz red

Its all about Lamb Curry with Rice (no peas) + Pita Bread

Ask an ed who went to the Falkland Islands. Ain't much but goat there.

I've had one at a pub off the A49. Not bad. Needs to be cooked slow for hours.

Isnt that what they were feeding the Newcastle players after the arrival of Ba and Cisse.
They were holding African themed dinners to make the lads feel at home and im sure they mentioned that exact meal.

Kopping a feel

I tried both a few times when I lived in the UK, notably at the Notting Hill Festival. Yum yum agreed.

Andy K

Goat's absolutely rank mate. Lamb's the way forward.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

In wales the preference is lamb. You only get tossed off with Goat.

Good evening ed's,

I know this sounds like a broken record, but we really did deserve yo finish higher up the league than we did last year. We were very unfotunate in a lot of occasions. Now if Rodgers can do the extra wee bits of business before the end of August and get a few extra bodies in, or replace the likes of Adam,Spearing, Carroll and Agger (if he is sold)with quality players such as Sahin, Dempsey plus 2 others, then there is massive reason to be optimistic. Im not saying that we will run away with the league, even if the odds are very attractive, but we can certainly close the gap on Arsenal and Spurs. Forth spot coulx be a real achievement this year, and if we get the luck and a bit of good fortune then maybe we might be able to look back on this season as the one that Liverpool Fc eventually turned the corner and left the horror nightmare of the last 4 years behind us.

I still dont understand why we havent put in a bid for van persie? i know his wages would be high but he was awesome last season and would surely be a step in the right direction. I just dont understand how man u have got him for £24 mill.

Why would he ov wanted to come tO us

You have to remember that its 24 mill for a guy on the last year of his contract and is easily injured. yes he is good but so is dagger and as much as i love the guy and DO NOT want him to leave if we get offerd 27 mill for him then i will drive him away myself and i aint even got a license. for me that was pretty good business from arsenal.
huddz red

Think this is a terrible deal.
24 mil + 150k a week on a 4 year deal (31 million wages) gives this transfer a total of 55 million pounds for a 29 year old who has had one good injury free season.at 33 when hes finished i presume some dutch club will take him home for 2 million quid,

red jay

He's not worth 15, i wouldnt wantr him for 10m.. 1 good season in 8 and injury prone.. no thanks

Maybe cause hes 29 injury prone, wages and seems like a di*k

Because they've put him on the same wage as Rooney, City weren't prepared to match it at that fee!

Are you like 11? Van persie wouldn't leave arsenal for Liverpool in our current status. They have CL football we don't. They are more likely to win the league so van persie would have never left arsenal for Liverpool. That why we didnt bid for him. Why would anyone pay over £25 mill for a 29 year old that's injury prone...do you understand now?

24 million for a 29 year old with a bad injury record and one year left on his contract is not bad business by Arsenal.

MR EM

Maybe the fact the can offer high wages and a better chance to win things

He Is 29 , And Before Last Season He Had A Lot Of Injury Problems , last year was his first healthy season

I'll be amazed if he is fit enough for 50 percent of the season. Everyone remembers last season but before that he was only good when he wasn't crocked

cozinoz

We didnt put a bid cause we didnt have achance to sign him. RVp didnt move for the money, he wanted trophies (and UCL of course) as his retirement days will be coming soon. but still what he did was very disgraceful if u ask me, loyalty has become a alien concept this days

I still dont understand why you dont understand.

He's 29, very injury prone, high wages.

He is reported to be getting 200k a week which is way to much based on his age and injury record.

Why would he come to lfc?

Are you serious? Van persie left arsenal so he can win some trophies and you want him to join us when we cant even offer CL football or a shot at the title? Lol..

Set Manager Mode to easy, win every game the first half od the season and make a bid for him in winter.

But we did win a trophey

15 Aug 2012 22:23:42
I am just having this strange feelings that Arsenal will sign Dempsey now with the money they have got selling RVP. We really need Dempsey in Liverpool as we need a proven forward like him with EPL experience as apart from Suarez , Borini and Tello will have their first time outings and Downing is kind of hit and miss. If we miss on Dempsey I dont know who we will be looking at as proven as him. I know he is 29 , but hey we are not going to play OLYMPICS where we need players under 23. And if you talk about resale value by buying young talents to sell them high just open your eyes andsee how much you can sell Carrool for or Henderson. Liverpool should have sorted out the Dempsey deal before moving for Sahin on loan. CM is not our priority as we got Joe Allen. Forward/Striker is the department we should have focused on. It will be hard to find a similar player like Dempsey who gives everything for the team , a true warrior with the limited fund we have if we miss out on him.

L7S YNWA
JFT96 {Ed019's Note - We'll get Dempsey, Arsenal interest has waned}

Arsenal have already got Podolski and Giroud with a view of Van Persie goin.

My feeling is that Dempsey will be a deadline day signing as soon as Carroll is sold.

Yes we have Joe Allen. But Lucas is not yet 100% fit and he might not be able to play many consecutive games and we would need cover there. Also Gerrard is injury prone and who do we have that is anywhere close to his quality in CM? Henderson/Shelvey are not ready. Sahin would be a great asset for us this season.

I am still little bit concerned how Sahin will adapt to the Premier League. Only time will tell and I hope he does well. I think its worth taking the risk as he will be on Loan but still I believe we should have bagged Dempsey before any other targets. We badly need to score the goals to get the show running and get to the champions league. Exciting time ahead and just cant cant wait to see the transfer window shutting down on Aug 31st. Its giving me extra stress...

15 Aug 2012 22:19:50
I went on the arsenal site to see what they were saying about Sahin, and i cant believe how arrogant they all are! Every single person on there seems to think Liverpool are totally out of question as we dont have CL football. They act like theres actually any point in them being in the CL. They cant even get past the last 16.

Also we were miles better than them last season. We just got extremely unlucky. The match against Arsenal at Anfield wasa pefect example. So why do they think they are that much better than us?

Hounsred {Ed019's Note - Tell me about it}

Its ok cos they just lost there best goalscorer (rvp) to man utd, well i suppose thats not ok as its made man utd stronger for the 6 games he won't be injured.
huddz red

Could not agree more mate! If you look back to a while ago when the were first linked with Mirallas, all of them were saying "he's great and would be an absolute steal." But now that he's been linked with Everton, they're calling him the of the earth. And they think Sahin is too good for Liverpool but thy're the one's who have missed out on him so thy're the crap team. Pathetic fans who need a reality check.

Rant Over

RedSpud

Because they finished above us and had van persie. If you take away van persie they would have been an irrelvant side. Just like we were when Suarez was unfairly banned for 8 matches. They know they will never win the champions league but it's literally the only thing they have on us, otherwise we would be a much better club. Sahin is coming to Liverpool. They will quickly respond 'oh well we don't need him anyway' or 'why would he choice crappy Liverpool over us' as if they've won something in the past 7 years... They all pretty much hate arsene wenger and I had alot of pleasure in there temporary downfall last season. 8-2 was the score? I think that says enough

Because they are arrogant cockneys.

I'm a LFC fan, but standings don't lie, we were not better than Arsenal last season. In fact were something like 18th from the new year to the end of the season, relegation stuff. This season however could be a different story.

Arsenal being in the Champions League, is like running the London Marathan dressed as a rhino. You're in the race, but you've no chance of winning it.

Kev.

Let tem think that. they're hammered without van persie.
derryred

How this post got so many agrees I will never know. "Miles better than them"? And you accuse them of arrogance?

We were a measly 17 points behind them last season. You can blame bad luck and injuries for that many points you plonker

Arsenal have one chance to gloat because they got CL whereas we won a trophy. The difference is we win trophies - including champions league trophies and the last time they won something they had a young Henry.

Who cares..? Put your energy into positive thoughts about Liverpool and forget about what Arsenal fans do, say or write.

15 Aug 2012 22:03:10
well again eds i think at the same age as dempsey defoe would be a better option.Your opinion eds ? {Ed019's Note - I rate Dempsey more}

Dempsey has the attitude and work effort of Dirk Kuyt but he can retain the ball and is comfortable out wide or up front, his PL goals record compares to Kuyt's he's younger and he'll sell a shed load of merchandise in the USA, not the most important reason but revenue pays the bills!

Defo is a garunteed goal scorer almost everytime he's on. He gets goals out of nothing and very limited playing time. Dempsey has had literally 1 good season. Defo is superior. {Ed001's Note - you are talking nonsense, Defoe has never had one good season in his career, constantly injured and extremely average, at best. Dempsey has been good for years and getting better.}

Yup Dempsey

just to let you all know i have done profiles on Nuri Sahin and Raheem Sterling on your profiles if anyone is interested

Is it just me who thinks Tom Cleverly is very very very overrated? Never see anything good from him

BobD94

Nah mate i agree, cleverly is a poor mans hendo
huddz red

Who cares about a manc wholl be on the bench or on loan??

He looked quality early last season before he got injured. Now he looks very mediocre. A bit like phil jones.

Get off it.... Hendo is a blind mans bluff

Although i don't rate cleverly over him

nah... really though Hendo is in terms of value for money like a Porsche 911 Turbo which costs around £116k

where Shelvey has the value of a Nissan GT-R which costs around £58k

and in my opinion the Nissan GT-R is a better car.

15 Aug 2012 21:52:35
why are all the fans raving about players from other leagues when b.r has said he is going to bring in no faces and he has been in contact with rival clubs about unnamed players indicating we are buying epl players so from that my rumour is that adam johnson will be signing before the start of the season

adamlfc

Johnson, Walcott, Dempsey, Ba, or a Man City striker on loan perhaps...

So Adam Johnson is an un named player with no face? Scary thought.

I'll bet my mortgage on it.
derryred

Every club in the world is a rival....

15 Aug 2012 21:43:34
Could Suarez persuade Cavani to move to Anfield?

RedsMatt {Ed019's Note - No}

Suarez, Coates, Ramirez, Cavani, Lucas you might not think about the ramifications of the Copa America, just as well BR's got his eye on the ball, when's Allen going to another International Tournament?

Depends on how flexible you are with the word persuade, maybe as far as torture?

He wouldn't get a game.

15 Aug 2012 21:42:25
That Aquilani chap who played for Italy looked quite handy, we should go for him. I heard hes the kind that settles down and doesnt moan. Also some club foolishly paid 20million for him once, so he must be half decent. Any thoughts eds?

Everyone who disagrees with this needs to lighten the f**k up, it's a joke for crying out loud!

Yarp.

Redjinal

Yeah his market value is also super low compared to that 20 mil figure. Lol mil...f

The disagree button in this case means its not funny i believe, U MAD BROOOO

15 Aug 2012 21:40:56
I hate Man U as a Liverpool Fan but, i respect them for the way they do they transfer business, they have signed 3 class players this transfer window.
and we are going for players but taking so long with it.

Yeah, fair play to old bacon face, but where are the two creative centre midfielders they have Badly needed for the last three seasons, citeh again for me, with another mauling in the cl for slur Alex and his team

They have signed an 18 year old who hasn't played higher than the 3rd tier of English Football and a Japanese International unproven in a tough league - RVP hopefully will continue with his injury jinx.

Who knows what players we are going for - media has ideas only, but has BR or anyone at LFC has said nothing with regards to individuals.

John B

Theyve only signed kagawa and van persie? That's 2 class players

We got the better player from Crewe mate.

You respect them because they have signed 3 world class players? Please elaborate and enlighten me on the class it requires, and the respect I must give, in order for someone to sign 3 'world class' players.
City have signed umpteen 'world class' player by definition by hurling wheelbarrows of cash at their feet. I wouldn't give them a shred of respect for it, but what is the distinction?
Go and ejaculate over their page if they fascinate you that much, but don't come on here singing their praises

They wanted Hazard he went to Chelsea, they wanted Moura he went to PSG, they've got RVP for £20M and 220k per week, not sure Fergies doing cartwheels about this window!

Yes and they really snapped up Van Perise quickly... I mean it han't taken them most of the summer at all has it?

15 Aug 2012 21:40:28
jus waitin for all the Defoe rumours to start again lol, simonpw

15 Aug 2012 21:37:13
Yeah we don't ever want that Defoe he's so overrated and doesn't get enough goals.
Seriously, anyone who thinks he's not England's most natural finisher is clueless

Chris in Tamworth

Chris you really do love Defoe don't you. I don't think anyone denies his quality in front of goal. But he's a passenger in most games, doesn't contribute anything but goals. Is fairly greedy and inconsistent.

Papa G

"doesn't contribute anything but goals"
Do you see the mistake you've made there?
I don't love Defoe, I just know quality when I see it and Defoe is a quality finisher.
Can anyone really with hand on heart say they don't think Defoe would have scored a hatful if he'd been up front for us last season?
I don't think we'll buy him and I'm not saying we couldn't get better but as it stands we haven't got a finisher of his quality
I'm hopeful that Borini will become that striker

Chris in Tamworth

I wish we signed him back in january.

"doesn't contribute anything but goals". Geez, you'd think he was a striker or something, wouldn't you... I'm certain that this sort of a job requires you to do that most of the time, lad.

Actually agree with both of the above. Defoe is a great finisher and really good at poaching goals, but he is a bit lacking on the defensive side of things and isn't overly creative in terms of bringing others into the play.

That said, I could probably be pretty close to accepting a swap Carroll for Defoe plus a promising youngster or a few million.

Am sure others will disagree, but I'm just not seeing much promise in Carroll, particularly for our proposed style of play.

I deny his quality in front of goal, he's great from distance but put him one on one and he often chokes. I wouldn't want to be relying on him for a goal, but he does come up with special ones occasionally. Not unlike...Andy Carroll

Red Ollie

'England's most natural finisher' that's not a lot to write home about at the minute Chris. Wouldn't mind him as a squad player but tbh think he's pretty crap and wouldn't be a starter at any top 6 club.
CQ

15 Aug 2012 21:33:32
Im sorry but is noone else slightly pessimistic over the possible new transfers?
Tello aint really gonna be good enough for the first team this year
Walcott has no end product
Dempsey's good but tad old and no gurantee he will play as good as last year
Sahin not really needed hasnt played in prem be4
Again dont want to sound negative if we do get any of them I hope they prove me wrong but does anyone else think we should be looking at other targets?

We? Oh you a pool fan?
John

Oh smile, you say Walcott has no end product but scored 8 goals and got 11 assists last year more than any of our squad.

Exit stage left?
BigBadBen

''Sahin not really needed hasnt played in prem be4''

So going by your wise words no club should ever buy a player from another league? What nonsense!

MR EM

You should have been the Entertainment Officer on the Titanic

Wow. Really?

Andy K

Dempsey is 4 months older that RVP mate.

Chi-Paul

RedTurk you hiding here?!

Zero

Walcott having no end product is a myth. I think it would be more accurate to say that Liverpool has no final product. Did you watch us last season?

Tello is a very fine young player indeed, to even be on the fringe of Barca at 21 is an achievement.

Walcott would bring pace needed to this currently slow team

Dempsey is old but is a constant goal threat and have been one of the most under-rated players for a while

Sahin is quality, so what he hasn't played in prem before, many great players haven't and I wouldn't say no to them

-McMenemy

So with your years of scouting experience who would you suggest.
Why do people like you always know better than the experts?

Derek

What other Targets?

Ramirez? He also hasn't played in the Prem B4!

Villa, bad injury!

Van Persie, 132 goals in 8 seasons 32 last year ave 15.3, Fergies looking for a Game changer, could blow up in his face.

BR's building a team, OK he's signed a couple of players he knows and they cost a bit 25M, but they know the system he wants to play, after West Brom we have tough run of games and he's looking for a solid start. We already have a lot of decent players and a few exceptional ones. We will be better this year and a few of our rivals are rebuilding so who knows what will happen!

Like who?

sooty

You could spin it the other way, tello is breaking through the ranks in a massive club, walcott has bags of pace and can be useful on the break, dempsey can score goals and sahin is just different class, try to see things in a good light

Only "slightly pessimistic"?
You're glass is definitely half empty and the beer in it, warm and flat.
Rigsby.

Suarez never played in the prem before, need I say how important he is to the club. The players we did sign last season that did play in the prem didn't turn out great (apart from Bellamy when kenny would play him which was hardly ever and Enrique who was on and off). So foreign talent is exactly what we need.

Frackin hell mate are you sure,i bet your great fun when the chips are down,as for your dubious support of which i am very sceptical, its about as welcome as a fart in a shell suit.some mothers do have em.

Sahin failed to convert his game to la liga what makes you think he can for prem and it was only last year when we were linked with walcott and no one thought it was a good idea even some of the eds dont rate him

Sahin needed as cover for gerrard/lucas unless you're happy with us playing henderson and shelvey in PL games.

Tello - any barca player would be a welcome addition in my book. They all play tiki-taka football which is what BR is trying to do here.

Walcott - not sure he is worth the money. Arsenal are really stingy

Yeah those guys who haven't played prem stink. Like that Suarez fellow or some Fernando Torres punk.

15 Aug 2012 21:31:04
Sahin deal done will be confirmed when he returns from international duty, tello may sign on loan depending on contract talks, rodgers may put in a bid for Mirallas also there is interest in johnson but it depends on johnson turning down everton due to first refusal.

Lil Red

Tello does not want to come to England simply as end of discussion

15 Aug 2012 21:30:00
well eds first time poster, well i tried numerous times but they didnt get through for some reason, anyway do you think that if we fail with tello (seems likely) do you think only then will we look to dempsey or will we go for both of them

sound {Ed019's Note - Dempsey and a winger}

15 Aug 2012 21:28:26
Sahin is either going to be a starting player or I don't think he would head our way. I know it would be awesome for us to have someone of his ilk sitting on our bench, but how does this help him or RM? Surely he could just as easily sit on their bench.

I know you will all say its a suad game. But do you really think he would move here to play second fiddle to Allen? In my opinion he is a much better player than Allen currently, and has proven himself as a really talented player

Blimey some people can't help but moan. We have signed one very good midfielder in Allen and are about to sign another in Sahin and you still moan.

I het if you won the lottery you would complain that you wallet is too small to hold your £50 notes.

JRG

How many times does it have to be said on here STRENGTH IN DEPTH ! Do you really think that BR is gonna stick with the same team while playing a possibility of 70 games this year ? Add in any kind of I jury's it really isn't rocket science, he may even play sahin

Gerrard will not be playing as often as last season, and tbh if we did get sahin I actually would be worried. Sahin can play any of the 3 midfield positions although he prefers the DM/CM position so Allen Lucas and sahin would rotate frequently. In the cam position we have gerrard cole and Dempsey can play there pretty well seeing as its his favourite position. So it's really all to do with depth. Sahin, borini, tello, Allen, dempsy is more depth than kuyt, maxi, Adam, spearing, Carroll.

JRG Id hire you as my wallet to carry my £50 notes. £50 an hour b4 tax :) ?

Moan? Jog on. I'm playing devils advocate for a second. What does Sahin gain out of playing off the bench was my point? Surely if he was to go out on loan it would be for playing time.

It's not a dig at your beloved Allen. Sahin is just a better player atm.

Peace

I'm not the guy who wrote this post but many of my mates who are also Liverpool fans agree that someone of Sahin's quality isn't gonna join a club on loan where he isn't guaranteed regular game time and I can't see BR wanting to not play Lucas Allen or Gerrard in midfield

Kaylan

I can't believe people are complaining about us hopefully signing Sahin. Its Sahin for gods sake!!

15 Aug 2012 21:26:28
Do liverpool have any interest in Moussa Dembele? I Would love to see him playing off Suarez, tearing defences apart! I know Real Madrid have shown an interest but they look set to sign Luka Modric now.
Your thoughts?

Cheers, Red Lee, YNWA {Ed019's Note - No}

Do you rate him Ed?
jonnybarnes89-90 {Ed019's Note - Decent player}

15 Aug 2012 21:25:41
If we do sign someone this week e.g sahin, would he be on the bench for the west brom game? And also do we think joe Allen will start?please reply! {Ed019's Note - I think Allen will start, Sahin will probably watch}

Ed, Sahin, as of now, is expected to be at Melwood on Sat to finish his medical which he will start on Friday. He's not travelling to Birmingham. There's another medical booked for Monday but don't know who for, I'm assuming Tello. Billy Mc.

I forgot to put my e mail on last post

Hope ur right billy mc, uve got a few rights atleast.

Hi eds, I'm Turkish but now live in Liverpool I am a anfield regular. I am glad to here we are in for nuri sahin he's fantastic. My question is do we have interest in arda turan he's always wanted to play for Liverpool and if we were to make a bid I think he would hand in a transfer request to play here at anfield. I know he's already at a good club in Atletico Madrid but I know he would prefer to play for Liverpool. What's your thoughts? Any chance we may try and sign him? {Ed019's Note - We had interest in him before he went to Atletico, as many long term readers will remember -_-}

Turan signed for us numerous times for us that summer. Pity we shipped him off before he had time to sign the contract

Oh Arda Turan, I remember when he was the equivalent of Ramirez, everyone wanted him despite most never seeing him play him, thats about the time I found this site -McMenemy

Turan was deemed to lightweight for the physicality of the premiership (even though ironically the Turkish league is largely considered the most brutal league in the world).
Would have loved to see him here though

Turan is a very good player. So is Ramirez, would have been great to see both playing in red.

Ahhhh....Arda Turan....I remember those days
That was when Ken Aguero linked with us {Ed019's Note - And still is}

15 aug 2012 21:20:06
hi eds, are we in for a good shout on dempsey, seems to have a bit quiet, reckon he would be a quality signing as has prem experience.

Hi ed don't know how reliable a transfer page is on twitter but it has said that Walcott wants to join us but wenger wants 20 million is there a chance of getting him for less as his in his last year of his contract! {Ed019's Note - Yes}

15 Aug 2012 21:17:38
hi eds great site this is, if tello and sahin come to us, will they both get first team in your opinion? YNWA {Ed019's Note - Rotation because of Europa League}

Tello will start as a substitute, get him use to the pace. Sahin was voted the best player in the Bundesliege ( spell) and is expected to adapt quickly. Tello will be expected to make an impact as games stretch out.

With Van Persie's move to Old Trafford moving ever closer, Old Purple nose is already looking forward to pairing up his new strike force - Fatman and Robin.

redmersey

Haha, good one

"Fatman and Robin" Lol, Funny but could be a devastating partnership

Lil Red

Very funny ! i like it , you must be the joker......andy.

Devastating for like 8 games next season.. For like 3 Years. He man is injured 95% of the time. And he's 29..?

Nice one redmersey, was thinkin the same myself so I uploaded a pic to sightings...

Aqualani has been quiet, we are well rid of him, also Adam Johnson hasn't done anything, no better than downing on this showing
Jonny71

It said adam johnson hasnt started a game for city since march give the guy a break

Dont want him, never rated him rather play AC on the wing haha

Wouldn't want him anyway lazy load of trouble

Wait so AJ didn't do anything but Carroll did. Phaaha nice Assesment that

He annoyed me as well in his interview after the game by saying he admires Carrick and thinks Clevery is a very very good young player I hate him even more now....

Our main rivals this season are Spurs and Arsenal. Everyone talks about the positivity of Arsenal signings but bar Carzola are they that good. No doubting Podolski's experience, but he's struggled once at a top team and the EPL can be very unforgiving. The same applies for Giroud, who I'm really not convinced about. They may lose RVP and Song in a few days and although they may be replaced, things take time and that's two pivotal players lost again for the Gunners.

Tottenham signed Vertonghen whose class and Sigurdsson who we probably all rate. However they're still seriously lacking in fire power, have a 40 year old goal keeper and a a manager that I'm not convinced over. I'm sure AVB will get them playing good football, but without their link man Modric things may not be easy.

Yes we've had some changes, but the main thing for us is having Lucas back, Suarez focused and Gerrard fit. If we can keep our defence together they'll be a rock, Reina must have improved after last season. Allen/Sahin will be crucial link men and Borini looks like an excellent signing. We're back playing Gerrard in his best position, letting Suarez what he's doing best and signing intelligent players to fit a specific system. Last year seemed a little contrived. Downing, Adam and Carroll were brought to play a little more directly, but Kenny never played them. He wanted fast flowing football, pass and move yet the signings didn't suit this. BR's signings suit his style, our current players (if Adam leaves, Carra stays on the bench), suit our style. I'm very positive for once about our team.

My main point of last year is that I watched Swansea play their relaxed, positive football and thought this is great we should play like this. Occasionally we did, with one exception. Composure! We'd great chances time and time again, not all clear cut but most good. Once we had them we snatched at them, we scuffed, hit posts, bars, cats, beach balls anything that would stop us bloody scoring. Now BR is here I see us slowing down, taking time and taking our chances. Borini won't dribble past three, like Suarez but he knows where the net is. Dempsey is a good player, but again not that creative. But what he brings is goals, with his left, right and head. I know Dempsey isn't guaranteed but I'm sure e'll arrive.

Nothing is definite in football and things may go wrong, but for the first time in years I'm confident. We've had a good pre-season, which never happens. We have a fully fit squad and a manager in touch with the modern games, confident in his and his teams ability.

Papa G

Nothing but sense.

Ed, have we signed Sahin? Would be fantastic coup for the club and BR. If it were true.

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I'm 99 percent sure Blair that the announcement will be tomorrow that he signed a year loan mate.MATTYLFC

with rvp gone to utd id love us to get hernandez not saying we will or anything but its exactly what we need a poacher type player in the box

Borini?

MR EM

He is a good player...but sure wont move to us...no chance mate...

We have Borini who is a poacher...

Red PG

Not really a poacher in the same mould as hernandez

You a united supporter trying to offload Hernandez ?

15 Aug 2012 20:58:38
If Sahin does come in then where will he play? We've just spent 15m on Allen and even though Sahin is better than him, he probably wont replace him due to the transfer fee. Lucas's absence last year showed we play poorly without him, so it wont be him and Gerrard's our captain. This makes me feel that the Sahin deal probably wont go through. For me, we should have forgot about Allen, signed Sahin on loan and then used the 15m to buy a winger or striker, would have been a more sensible option.

It's a shame we have to play the same three midfielders every game.

If only there was some way we could sign Sahin and rotate the midfielders to keep them fresh for the many games we will play this season. I mean it's not like Gerrard and Lucas have had injuries lately.

Oh well we can dream....

JRG

For a season where we could play 50 to 60 games (dependent on cup runs) how can having more than 3 quality central midfielders not be an absolute requirement

Well played JRG well played
Owenll

JRG i like that lol

For all them people posting Sahin to join tonight,it's going to be pretty impossible as he's currently sitting on the turkey bench

Is he getting basted?

15 Aug 2012 20:45:36
So the sign van persie! Surely we have to react now n spend on a world class striker! We are gonna fall further n further behind the manchester clubs n chelsea, when you compare there transfer activity to ours? Do you think the owners will give funds to rodgers to buy some real quality? What do you think eds
HARDY1892 YNWA

Van Persie is the new Berbaflop

And how would u attract quality ?

Since when has Uniteds transfer activity dictated who or when we buy someone? We will buy the players the manager wants regardless of what augured do.

You don't even know how RVP will perform yet. Berbatov, Anderson, Hargreaves and Veron have all moved there for big money and not lived up to their hype.

Don't worry yourself with what there doing and concentrate on supporting this club.

JRG

Really RVP has had one season in 6 or 7 thats been injury free and scored goals regulary.

Doesnt make anysense for us to go for van persie
Hes old
Hes injury-proned
He wouldnt want to come
Hes got high wages
and oh yea he cost 24m!

He will spend most of next season on the treatment table

In case you havent been following LFC for a while we are not in a position to pay 20m for a 29yr old and pay him 200k per week. Reckon Arsenal have good the better of that deal. RVP will never have another season like the last

Didn't we sign a Top striker to a new contract last week?

Ed002 do sparky and the anfield cat get on? {Ed002's Note - Not at all. Sparky and Pepe are having a little time apart at the moment. Pepe is sleeping in his car for a couple of days.}

So for next year we're shaping up like this

Reina
Jones

Robinson
Enrique
Coates
Carra
Skrtel
Agger
Johnson
Kelly

Lucas
Allen
Sahin
Gerrard
Henderson
Shelvey

Borini
Dempsey
Downing
Suarez
Carroll
Cole

Personally I love the look of that squad. Good mixture of youth and experience. A strong back 5 with Lucas, Allen/Sahin pulling the strings, Gerrard back to his roaming best and a strikeforce with movement and goals. The depth of quality is good and you will see an improvement in our bench compared to times last year.

I'm basing this on Dempsey in/Adam out and Sahin in on loan. We seem to be looking at a quick option to play wide or up top, with Tello still being seeked on loan. Personally if Sahin and Tello sign for 12 months then leave, it benefits us all round. We get hungry players, for good priced deals who want to prove themselves and in a years time if they leave, then hopefully Sterling and Suso are ready to step in.

We're also likely to sell/loan out Ecclestone, Spearing, Wilson and Cole if we have any takers. Hopefully we'll tie Suso and Sterling onto long term deals.

That to me is the best squad we've had since the year before Alonso and Arbeloa left. Hopefully if we make top 4 we just need a tweak next summer, if Carroll has left, then perhaps a top class winger/forward can be signed. But as I said before hopefully youth can start to play a strong part in our development. Robinson, Suso, Sterling and Sama can potentially mean we only need to sign one player next summer and not the mass changed wr've seen over recent years.

I'm positive going into the coming season and I hope you're all too?

Papa G

I would love to make the top 4, but I just can't see it. There was such a big points gap, I don't know if we have improved enough to close it

Most of Papa G's posts are positive redturk should take note.

20 wins and 11-12 draws gets you CL football. I think we're in the hunt for that. 72 points. I believe.

Chi-Paul

You do know that we all start on zero points this season?

Andy K

It depends on my mood, but if they're not positive I like to think they're constructive. Except on Charlie Adam, he's a lazy damn frustrating player who I'll happily moan about all day long.

Papa G

Agree with most but for me, Jones, Carroll and Cole all need to be replaced. Jones can be replaced easily- Maybe De Vries for 1m- Cole aswell, maybe Mirallas or Tello- and Carroll too, maybe Walcott or Gameiro.

I'd take Adam over Cole any day. Never been much for JC. Even god liked Adam more than JC because he made him first.

I'm a big fan of Olympiakos and I can tell u that MIrallas is a great talent, very strong and skilfull and has a lot of pace he's also a great finisher, I always used to say he will make it to the PRemier LEague one day, it's a shame we never tried to get him.

Yeah a who was 2nd top scorer in the greek league last season - sebastian leto! remember him when he played at liverpool, he couldnt even run or control the ball!
No disrespect to the greek league but I dont think the standard is that great. esspecially if letos banging them in!

He is now a everton player :)

Andy carrol looks hungry!

Am I banned Ed?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96 {Ed052's Note - No. Don't woory. Just a huge backlog mate}

Guilty conscience Blair?

You have been dropped from the squad Blair.... Like Kevin Petiersen.
The ed's had a long chat about your behaviour and your sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle and thought it best if the forum moved in another direction.......
However, if you perform a grovelling apology (wearing an everton kit) in front of the whole forum then there is an outside chance that you may be re-instated to your former glory...
jonnybarnes89-90
It could just be a back log though!

15 Aug 2012 20:31:05
Not sure of his name, but why don't we put a bid in for the guy in the number 10 shirt for Italy tonight - looks a bit of a handful and I don't think his wages would be huge.

PRed

His name is destro I think and i think he plays for Roma....

Won't cost much either, heard it would cost in the region of £5m. Defo worth a gamble. ;-)

He's on about Aquilani.

He is roma s replacement for borini

15 Aug 2012 20:25:22
I understand that Sahin is a very talented young player but surely our midfield is already quite bulky with Gerrard, Lucas and now Allen starting before him. Surely more midfielders should not be the focus at the moment? What do you think EDs?

Cheers

Last season both Lucas & gerrard were out for long periods, do you want to rely on a midfield of (no disrespect to them) spearing, Adam & Henderson again?

Furthermore, don't we want our manager to have plenty of options & more than just plan A? What of he wants to play 5 in midfield?

Jimbob

Let's be optimistic for a sec.....If we get to the League, F.A. and Eufa cup finals we will play a minimum of 70 games.....Lucas is just back from a lengthy lay off, Gerrard certainly can't play 70 games on the spin.....Did i mention Injury's? BR system is being wrongly labelled as 4-3-3...when attacking we will assume that formation, but in reality we are now a 4-5-1 team. I would say another winger (hopefully Tello) and a CM (hopefully Sahin) is an absolute must! Red Dan YNWA

I tend to agree. Why would he come out on loan to sit on the bench awaiting an injury? Sure it may suit us to have someone of his ilk on the bench, but how does it suit him or RM? I thin he will be starting or off to Arsenal

Jimbo you forgot about Jonjo and Allen. Take a codine - we'll be fine.

15 Aug 2012 20:24:29
Hey Eds, right now i don't how likely Tello is but are we still after muniain? He would be fantastic too and are we interested in Kevin Mirallas? I just want to know what wide players are we most likely after with these confusing rumours going around each day. Thanks again. {Ed052's Note - No to Muniain. }

15 Aug 2012 20:21:29
Sahin and tello deal very close although with the van persie deal going through could make arsene step up the heat and snatch sahin. That's all.

R4L

He would not be buying Sahin to replace Van Persie.

Replace a striker with a cm? hmmm makes sense...

Gman

15 Aug 2012 20:20:42
I'm excited for the new season I bet we thrash west brom!
Loving Andy Carrol's commitment too anyone would be tempted to move away given the interest for him and the fact brendan does'nt see him as first choice but he will make a fantastic game changer... A plan B is something we lacked last year soo let suarez and borini knacker them out then bring on the big man to finish them off!
Midfield on the other hand is a problem need to shed Adam, Cole and Spearing At least Spearing on loan, If we get Sahin there will be no way i'd be happy with cole adam or spearing ahead of him
also one last thing Please Stay Agger we love you!!!
Possitivily Red!!

(rant over)

I rate our big man much higher than any other tall forward we've had recently. Think about Crouch and Heskey and their contribution.

15 Aug 2012 20:15:47
Nuri Sahin loan deal will be announced late tonight or tomorrow morning.

~Mark~

15 Aug 2012 20:07:26
Sahin to LFC = Confirmed.
1. MCFC
2.CFC
3.MUFC
4.AFC
5.LFC
6.TFC
have your say...

Us nd arsenal other way around imo

Chelski - what happens if Torres is injured? Who gets there goals + hazard & Marin new to EPL & lightweight.

Wenger boys - RVP moved on who will get his 30 goals probolski?

Spuds - AVB wait for the unrest & no modric.

Sports Direct United - 2nd season syndrome for the French.

Lfc 3rd or 4th unfortunately behind the rich mancs & the ones in debt.

Jimbob

Probably bang on imo. Even without RVP, I think Arsenal probably have it over us in terms of squads. Wouldn't be surprised to see them move for another striker anyway

I reckon we will come 6th

Chavski will spend big on a striker b4 end of transfer window, my bet is either cavani or hulk
Jonny71

Chelski will get Cavani as they can't rely on Torres for goals

15 Aug 2012 20:07:19
This prob been said before but just say we get sahin and Tello on loan, they end up first teamers and are brilliant. There clubs decide they want to keep them and we are left with a massive hole in the spine of the team. Short term great, long term maybe not. On a positive spin I'll be made up with them. Just a thought like ....
Tommy.

It's all about getting into the champions league. Once qualified we can attract top players.

I get where your coming from but if they help us to achieve champs league then we are in a far stronger position next year to sign the same kinds of players on permanent deals as we will be able to offer champs league football and with the extra revenue to spend as well, you never know they may even want to stay after a year :)

15 Aug 2012 20:05:39
Okay, brief round-up. Dempsey deal isn't any closer, tello has been speaking to Ian Ayre (no news as of yet). Sahin deal is close but not as close as people are suggesting. Skrtel will sign new contract.

15 Aug 2012 20:04:44

RVP only has the occassional good season anyway, i wouldn't be too concerned pal.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is aiming to bring more new signings to Anfield before the end of the August transfer window.

Rodgers says the Reds have spoken to a number of rival clubs about unnamed players and he remains hopeful of agreeing deals in the next fortnight.

15 Aug 2012 19:43:12
Please don't tell me another amazing talent is going a as cheap as chips to the wrong merseyside team!?
This boy Kevin Mirallas is only 24, bags of talent and is off the the in blue for a reported £6 million!?

This seems like a bargain to me, for a wonderful player who I see as the last piece of the puzzle for LFC. A speedy, tricky winger with an amazing end product!

Please don't let anothe talent slip BR, I trust you know what you're doing and I will back you, but Mirallas would be a steal for just £6 million and I dot know what Everton can offer that we cannot?!

LFCBilly

He obviously has no ambition and doesn't want to win any medals.

I posted this queit long back..hope one day BR see him and read my post..
6 mill..27 goals from 48 match..low wages
excellent for me...
dono what BR thinks..

Id rather have the other Belgium winger Dries Mertens than Kevin Mirallas...just my opinion.

15 Aug 2012 19:02:01
Hello All,

Moving on from yesterdays hot topic, I wanted your opinions on another one 'Andy Carroll'.

I know he has always split opinions, from 'he will be a beast give him time' to 'hes a donkey and has worse ball control than Kuyt, get shut!'

Most of last season he was pretty bad for one reason or another and did miss some sitters to be fair, but a few good games towards the end of the season and his popularity soared to 'We must not get rid or it will come back to haunt us!'

Now if you consider how many games he played well in, it is probably less than Wee Jay or Charlie Adam(He did play well until Lucas got injured!), but yet these 2 get dogs abuse and most say get shut quickly. Now I don't think they are good enough but am just puzzled why AC gets more support than them, considering the hefty price tag that came with him, you would think we may cut them more slack than him.

As I wonder this I am one of the one's who keeps thinking he will come good , then see him trying to control the simplest of balls and it ending up near his ears. Are we just willing him to be good and fooling ourselves that he will come good , because we are a bit embarrassed on how much we paid for him(as we get reminded every 22 minutes off every club out there!) or do we honestly believe he will come good.

We make our minds up on other players alot quicker and say they arent good enough, but is Andy really good enough? especially the way we play?

I cant help but like the lad(Cant say why) and this has gone more maybe since he rejected West Ham, by the way this doesnt mean he is loyal really, because who would want to go there? I think honestly the best for all was if Newcastle came back in for him and he went back home, because he never really wanted to leave.

Any bodies views welcome.

From as I was called yesterday the Pie munching Wiganer!
John Wigan

Make a great player fora club who play a traditional style game with wingers swinging in crosses, however i feelandy is unsuited to brendans football, he doesnt have the legs for ahigh pressing game, and his primary attributes ieaerial threat wont be part of the dna ofour football,so whilst he will go on to great things it wont be with us

i d oan him to west ham for a year, he ll do really well then we ll be able to recoup 20-25 million from him next summer

tom1975

The lad is still young and he won't reach his potential for a while, I'd say 3-5 years. He has a powerful left foot and header, although he can't control the simple touches, the way he can bring down the ball can world class at times. I hope he does stay. If he works hard and has the right people pointing him in the right direction I can see him being up there with the likes of zlatan, shearer and co

Marc

The reason I still back Carroll is that he has probably started less than 50% of games in his liverpool career when fit and available.
Daglish bought him for 35 million and in my opinion never played him.
An example would be the derby game at goodison when he scored last season... Next game he was on the bench.
Do I think Carroll is the best player I have ever seen, of course not, but he is effective, he can lead the line and has a good shot on him.
Down side is that he is not great at holding the ball up and not very good at passing ( although 1 ball against Leverkusen played inside the full back for Sterling to run on to suggests he can get it right).
You do not pay 35 million pounds for potential, but if you did, at least give the guy the best possibility to succeed by picking him week in and week out.
For me, That is where Daglish got some things wrong last year. Another would be selling Meireles and buying Adam...

liverpool will announce the loan signing of sahin very soon, maybe tomorrow. we are still trying on tello could go either way at the moment as hes not that keen to play abroad. finally we have everything sorted for dempsey, just need adam to agree to go to fulham, however if he doesnt i still expect to sign him though it could end up going to the final days of the window.

as far as i know that will be the end of our business ths window, however a football is unpredictable and surprise may happen?

There's clearly some feminist issue here as I've posted 4 times and they have not gone onto banter or rumours page so if I'm not welcome then i wont bother.

I talk sense unlike some of you on here.

Maisey {Ed052's Note - I'm sorry Maisey if they are not posted. Keep posting and I will look out to make sure they are posted. It's busy at the moment for us, so we cannot keep up with it all! }

Well said Maisey keep posting .

Maisey if Sahin signs tomorrow like you said then we can believe if you talk sense of not :) cheers

Someone has the painters in!

Ed how can you apologise to her? A lot of people don't get their posts posted and I'm pretty sure their blokes so why let her accuse you of being sexist? This person actually annoys me and no it's not because your a women it's because you moan pointlessly {Ed002's Note - I have seen and posted several posts from Maisey today.}

Maisey gettign special treatmentis sexist,if she were a guy she d be told that hining about posts not being posted is most likely to annoy the eds

Don't start the female card again girl it's getting boring. How big is the chip on your shoulder. Couple things don't get posted of mine, it happens, move on...
Tommy.

You should get a job Maisey. I would agree that the painters are probably in

While I dont think the 'sexist' card is a great way to go, some of the posts afterwards only support this direction. Keep posting Maisey but getting the sulks on only decreases credibility. This is not gender based, we all want to see our little piece of input posted but the Eds can only do so much.

Off up Anfield tomorrow with the legend that is Jan Molby... Get in there you beauty.... Anyone got any questions for the big man??

Ask him why his son Kingsly always cuts me up on the roundabout!

RR!

Ask the big Dane

Any chance of him training our players at penalties? As he scored 42 out of 44 penalties. Ask him about goal against man utd. Great hustle, great tackle, great run, great shot, great goal. Redevon

What is his favourite pie?

Phooey...

Ask him if we can get Rushie back now that we have the red nets
That would be dreamland - Robin van who ?

Can you ask him where pepe is I'm getting rather worried!

big back page headlines and a two page spread in the liverpool echo saying were signing nuri sahin and cristian tello on season Long loan before the weekend the deal for sahin was helped by alonso and that managing director ian ayre had flown to spain today to finalise the deal for tello i no its paper talk but the echo dont usually print shxt and spend so much time and space on it .....joe the red..y.n.w.a.

15 Aug 2012 18:47:40
With Ryan Babel set to move to Fiorentina, could that mean that Jovetic is now available?

15 Aug 2012 18:43:39
Sahin will be completed on Thursday and there will be a press conference on Tuesday the 21st, It will be a season long loan deal and Tello will join soon after, even if he does sign a contract extension at Barcelona

Red Bird

15 Aug 2012 18:33:52
I think with Sahin likely coming aboard we could see Gerrard play in a role like Fabregas often did for Barca last year. Playing a very advanced central role with Suarez playing slightly off of him. When we are in control mode, trying to maximize possession Gerrard can drop deep and form a diamond with Lucas, Sahin and Allen. When are go more into an attack mode he pushes up to team with Suarez. Our formation could look something like this:

------------------------PR---------------------------
------------------MS-----------DA-------------------
GJ--------------------Lucas------------------------JE
----------------JA-------------NS-------------------
---------------------------------------------FB-------
------------------LS----SG---------------------------

15 Aug 2012 18:33:05
Is it true that we've got sahin on loan? seems a fair amount of buzz on 'twitter'. I know we were interested but dont know if we've got him yet..

Thanks anyway eds ! YNWA {Ed052's Note - read the posts}

Reina, Johnson, skrtel, agger, Enrique, Allen, Lucas, Gerrard, Suarez, Carroll & Borini. De vires, Kelly, Coates, Henderson, sahin, sterling, Dempsey ...... Would be very happy with this line up

Playing 18 against 11 may be a bit unfair.

Sahin starts man!!!!1 gr8 player

15 Aug 2012 18:15:47
Eds.if the rumours are true about signing sahin that currently makes us with 12 midfielders inc.coady,suso,surely some will be offloaded.great site {Ed052's Note - Adam and Spearing probably will be.}

15 Aug 2012 18:09:02
Sahin deal to be announced late evening (UK) or the following afternoon (16th Aug)

Nico

Is that the same sahin who as only played 4 league games for madrid but i suppose he is the best player in the world now he is going to the 8th best team in the prem {fact}, he is a average player and wouldnt get in any of the top 4 teams in the prem.

If there's a chance that they'd rush an announcement out tonight, why would they then wait until tomorrow afternoon? Just sayin'.

What about the morning

Well wasn't arsenal trying to sign him? Where did they finish last year? And he also turned down a move to Spurs as part of modric deal? And where did they finish? But sure your right he wouldn't get in any of there teams!! They would just try and sign him for fun of it. Sarcasm.

JD

And Utd were after him at one point aswell.

15 Aug 2012 18:07:16
Eds,

Has Nuri Sahin signed a loan deal with us now?

Hi everyone! There's a video in the I-net showing Van Persie singing "You'll never walk alone". Could this mean something, Eds?
Lancelot {Ed052's Note - Obviously - its old news now, have you been on holiday. Its pending a medical now, fee agreed and wages. Its all in hand, so obviously the vid shows him practising for when he joins.}

Whilst I love Ed052's sarcasm I'd like to settle this by saying the video has been going around for a couple years now and it is because his old club - feyenoord - also use that song.

BthekingB

Haha, what a quality answer..
ed,on serious note any chance of us going for gaitan if carroll is sold on a permanent deal ? {Ed052's Note - Low, very low}

Lol Ed that was classic

For anyone who doesn't understand, ed is just kidding and to the original poster, that video was when he was at feyenoord (they're anthem is also YNWA) {Ed052's Note - It's good you've clarified. I'm sure some people thought I was telling the truth. }

He just signed for mu

Good news: Sahin Deal Is Done

MoMo

15 Aug 2012 17:48:32
According too the reports "Liverpool have sent managing director Ian Ayre to Spain to secure deals for Barcelona winger Cristian Tello, 21, and Real Madrid midfielder Nuri Sahin, 23." I think that Tello is long shot however, Sahin seems to be convincing.

15 Aug 2012 17:47:15
Oh and unfortunately Pacheco will be leaving us most likely to villareal.

Thanks, Maisey

15 Aug 2012 17:45:19
Liverpool were linked with the olympiacos striker kevin marales, he is apparently close to a 5.3 million pound move to everton, i am confused as to why liverpool have calmed interest he looks quality can play any three of the attacking options and is a very good price in which we could buy him and even if he was a bad signing we wouldnt make much off a loss on him, he couldnt be any worst than downing, should deffinately try and get him!

Because he probably isn't any good !!

15 Aug 2012 17:40:58
Oliver Kay has said that Sahin will sign on loan on tomorrow or tonight.
Is it true Ed

RedMachine {Ed002's Note - I don't know who or what an Oliver Kay is. Sorry.}

15 Aug 2012 17:34:15
So Agger has sent a messsage to Barca to come and get him. Great player but he is in no way irreplaceable. Would much rather see him play in a red shirt this season but then hopefully he can stay fit which has been something he has struggled with throughout his career and injuries seem to be his worst enemy. Would it not then be a good idea to cash in and sign a replacement. Only if we get a pot load of cash for him though.

Just watched 'Small talk with Jay Spearing' on LFCTV and just realised how down to earth this lad is. Even though he is slated and lacks the quality at times, I really do hope he can prove the doubters wrong because his passion and commitment is second to no. I hope us fans give him a chance because he really does love the club and tries really hard.

Thought please

Cheers

Sam

I also love Liverpool and would give 100% if i was given the chance to play for them. But does that mean i should be in the team? No! Because I am not good enough, and either is Jay!

No room for sentiment at a big club like liverpool. He is not good enough for us, get rid. Or would u rather like to see us finish below the bitters again?
Indian Buzzer

Im sure plenty of people on this site have unbelievable passion and commitment to Liverpool but unfortunately for us and Spearing we dont have the talent or ability to play in a Liverpool side with aspirations of winning the league title. fair play to Spearing though he has fulfilled a dream of wearing the red shirt that we will never get, but because he is a down to earth lad and loves Liverpool it doesnt mean he should play, ruthlessness not kindness wins titles.

cobra

I love that we all slate him... we all had our chance to play for Liverpool and werent good enough. I bet half the people on here wouldnt get even close enough to kick him. He is a good footballer who is passionate about the club and should be given a bit of credit. I dont think he is quite upto the mark but he is much better than any posters on here unless some ex-reds are posting

The flip side on this is that he is living his dream, think about it.

Red Sunrise

Nice guys finish last...

Is jay spearing appearing on a programme called "small talk" a bit much.surely the correct term is size challenged.

He is a good player, no Alonso but if he can continue to get regular football he will improve. A season long loan to another premier league team could see him fulfill his potential

Well said, if commitment and passion won you the league, we would have cleaned up in recent years, unfortunately, it takes more than that.

15 Aug 2012 17:31:22
Ed 002 being the realist that you are, who do you think given a fiver free bet Liverpool will sign and sell before the window shuts? There are no maybes or difficult to says on a betting slip:p give it to us straight if possible!:p thanks a lot and great site Danman {Ed002's Note - I don't gamble of course but there will certainly be a few ins and outs to come. I have given an opinion on most already. It is not worth the grief to go through them again.}

15 Aug 2012 17:31:21
Hi guys/gals eds, it wouldnt be a bad idea to try for jack butland we seem a little SHORT in that position,it appears we will be in for no surprises this transfare window that is if all the press reports etc are correct it would have been nice to be linked with somebody along the lines of alonso or pirlo even for a season or so just to get us into the top four & with somebody up front to bang the ball in the net from their beautiful through BALLS,guess i can dream suppose im spoilt from having had mash/alonso/gerrard/playing together.(godin)

Oh oh oh o oh ,
we got the best midfield in the world
we got Lucas & Allen, Shelvey & Sahin,
Hendo Gerrard and Suso.

Oh oh oh o oh,
We got the biggest midfield in the world,
We got Lucas and Allen, Shelvey & Sahin,
Hendo, Gerrard & Suso. We got
Adam & Joe Cole and let's not
forget little Spearo.............

Chi-Paul

Are you taking the mick?

We don't even have the best midfield in the league.

To a degree, yes I am.

Chi-Paul

Well thats a lie...

To be fair a midfield of Lucas, Allen, Sahin and Gerrard is better han most midfields in the PL.

What are the notes?

Xabi alonso, momo sissoko, Gerrard and masharano weren't the best in the world either at the time but we sang it and its a great LFC song. Lighten up lads

First verse is awesome. Fits perfectly.

BthekingB

Potential spurs midfield
Parker- m'villa
Van der vart
Bale-ramirez.

Would any of our 12 midfielders get into that midfield? {Ed052's Note - Yes}

The words were the greatest midfield

Why on earth does everyone think Ramirez is THAT good..? He's above average at best. Lucas could, gerrad could, Allen could, possibly sahin could.

So, Eds. I know you don't like to do ratings out of 10, but how relieved will you guys be out of 10 when the transfer window shuts in 16 days?

I'm guessing around 17

15 Aug 2012 17:18:58
Suso looks like he could develop into a very very good player, do you think we will see him in the first team this year?, obviously not every week as he's still only young.

Agger has said if barca made a move for him he wouldn't turn it down. Are barca interested in him eds? {Ed002's Note - Yes they are.}

That's not what he said at all, what's wrong with all you crybabies. Typical of Ed002 to jump on it though, she don't want to see any good players at this club. Can't see Barcelona coming up with 25mil for him even if they are interested, but then again maybe we'll let him go on a free to them.

Thats because hes only worth around 12m haha

15 Aug 2012 16:55:11
it's hard for BR do do well in Liverpool as BR have to offload few of kenny's player and it's never easy. Carroll, Hendo and Downing is main headace for BR . he want to Bring new player but have to offload atleast Carroll.

hhh

Simple reponse to this post is - HOW DO YOU KNOW?

Why on earth would he want top get rid ( as you say ) of any of them?

John B

People thinking they know. was funny in at the start its boring me the hell to death now.

qwerty

Rodgers doing well at liverpool i.e. Getting results, preparing a good team are the things he has been signed to do. And not for offloading kennys players. In current squad only adam, spearing and carroll are the players that dont fit. For their poor passing. These 3 are the only players which might get sold. Hendo n downing are part of liverpool future plans.

Being a good manager does not mean offloading privious managers buys. {Ed052's Note -

Well thats a lie...only carroll looks like he may leave

15 Aug 2012 16:45:14
we are really short if we intend to play a front 3.......

lets say downing gets injured.........or borini...

that leaves only suarez and caroll.........

we dont have enough firepower upfront...........we have enough in defence and in midfield now with allen and lucas fit...

borini........suarez........downing = front 3
caroll sub..(thats it)
its weak guys!!...

arsenal = gervinho.....rvp.........walcott
arsenal = podolski......giroud......cazorla... 6 for that role..

now they have enough firepower to cause defences problems....even if their defence is rubbish..

so eds..and other fans......does anyone else have any concerns cos we saw how uncomfortable it was for shelvey to play on the right that half...and he wont ghost past defenders in that position

eds...do u really think a front 3 is worth doing knowing that we only have 4 people for the front 3 positions

red lobster

We are interested in many forward players. For example, Tello, Walcott and Dempsey.

Be patient.

BthekingB

We also have Sterling to come in and play one of of the wide-forward roll's. He has played in that position pre-season and done very well.

Dempsey is hopefully only a matter of time and maybe also one of Tello, Johnson or Walcott in that order.

That will give us Suarez, Carroll, Borini, Dempsey, Downing, Sterling and either Tello/Johnson/Walcott. I think most of us will be happy with that?

JRG

I think we should play a front four.

Suarez...Carrol...Borini...Downing

and just have keepers and medical staff on the bench.

it would confuse other teams so much that there heads would explode and we would win by default

rob

Let me think
suarez , carrol, borini

tello , ? , walcott

not forgetting we have an abundance of midfielders so gerrard could play a wide spot...

use brain before you post please.

danny s

Sterling. Morgan. Gerrard at a pinch.

I'd say likely one or two more in as well (Dempsey seems most likely, maybe one of Tello/Johnson/Walcott).

Not all that bad really....

In Rodgers tactical thinking, the front three and the attacking mid just behind (making 4 in all) rotate around and interchange throughout the match. Therefore we have plenty of firepower available because you can add in Gerrard & Shelvey, and Pacheco will probably still be with us. Then there's Suso, Eccleston, Sterling and we still have Cole. And we can fill-in gaps in the midfield if we really get stuffed with legions of injured with other midfielders such as Henderson or even move the likes of Agger or Johnson into Midfield and step-up a defender. We are not short of players in any position and we have a substantial number of players that can fulfil more than one role. RED LENIN

Raheem Sterling? Redevon

We have sterling who can be as good as he want to, gerrard can work well in front 3, also shelvey could do well up top i think... But ofc id love another player who is more of a poacher, not so many of them atm...

Erm have you seen our transfer targets? Can you not just wait till the transfer widow finishes before you start moaning.

This is the aftermath of that stupid panic buy season, made sum of us stupid too.

qwerty

No1 has said joe cole remember him?

We have suarez, borini, downing, carroll, sterling, pacheo and morgan. If anything we need to get rid of some to bring some in. Dempsey and one of tello/walcott/AJ is to come in. Pacheo and carroll out with morgan probably out on loan.

simples....NAT

Or a midfield of Lucas, Allen and Sahin with Gerrard, Borini and Suarez up to? There's a million pieces to a puzzle kind of like a rubic cube there's just so many options. ACatACatACat

Anyone else get massively angered with the host of Anfield Wrap on City Talk. I mean this guy, although having a good knowledge of facts. Talks utter rubbish about Football. I can stand listening to this guy.
On Football note. Sterling a top player for future but a bit lightweight at the moment. Shelvey is trying to play the long ball too much and is very wasteful. Wee Jay as the King Dalglish calls him was very good second half against Leverkusen. Anyone having Gerrard for a massive season? I think he has a few left in him but one massive one.

Wee jay spearing needs to leave anfield he is not a good player he wears his heart for the jersey but he is not talented enough for liverpool and every dog on the street knows this

Massively disagree with your comment about The Anfield Wrap. Neil Atkinson and co provide a well rounded discussion on the topics in hand. Listening to them makes me feel like I'm sat in the pub with a group of mates, shooting the sh!t about our favourite team. If you don't like it - don't listen - simple.
LFC Brazil

Well said about wee jay spearing.... He's awful n not good enough for Liverpool....I hate it when he plays because we lose, I knew we would lose the fa cup final because he was playing..... Anyone notice that after he went off we actually started played a lot better n challenged Chelsea..... Move on spearing your time is up

Jordan Henderson lol

15 Aug 2012 15:56:23
So is Tello out of the question now or were those just random rumours that he was going to stay in spain? Thanks Eds

He was going to see real madrid about Sahin

15 Aug 2012 15:50:00
Tello is a no go. Won't be happening.
Dempsey and Theo are real targets. Dempsey wants to come but theo wants champions league and Wenger holding out for a larger bid for him

Trueotter

Wegner is always looking out for a higher bid, and then has the cheek to moan about other clubs wanting better bids for their players. Getting teeth extracted with a wire cutter is more appealing than doing business with that man.

Posted a couple of times recently but not got through......?
With Utd concentrating on RVP so much, would a swoop for Lewandowski be conceivable? I'd also like to see Defoe arrive, 17 goals from limited game time last season - he's still got it! would Spuds sell to us tho?

Am I right in thinking that Suso has scored in every game he has played in so far since he has been back with the reserves...(which is not really reserves as non of them are apart of the first team)

So my question is how can the staff at Liverpool question his work ethic and mentally as label it as Laziness & Arrogance?

Another thing Ngoo should go out on loan or at least have a few Cameos in the Cups. He is the perfect No9 to a 433 system; he is tall, strong, fast, has fast feet, is mobile, direct and deadly accurate.

Personally I feel that if there is a player at the academy that has never stopped progressing and kept improving it is him.

If you don't think so then who would you suggest has always been improving

but its not morgan has he had a mild season last season

suso improved ALOT in the last 7-8months but at the start of last season was getting out performed by Adorjan and Silva

Adorjan dropped form when suso picked up form.

Its not coady or Sterling because sterling didn't get breathing space in the Next Gen.

i'd say its either Ngoo, Biao, Wisdom or Sama.

and who is excited about the Next Gen Series, The U21 Prem

the only thing is i think they should make the U21 prem a full league of the best 18-20 academies in England.

You are confusing pacheco and suso

Ngoo isn't good enough for our first team

15 Aug 2012 15:44:07
Looks likely that Tello is going to sign a new contract but once that has been resolved he will be made available for a loan. No issues on the financial side just whether the player wants to move abroad. Will be another deal that drags to the end of the transfer window.

Hi All,

Just wanted to give everyone an update on what is going on at LFC as it stands. Apologies if anything is old news but I have only made contact with someone at the club after meeting them the other day.

Tello - This is waiting on Barcelona and his contract negotiations. If Barcelona extend his contract he will move to LFC for a year long loan with no option to buy. If no agreement made he could potentially move on a permanent basis to LFC.

Sahin - As far as I have been told this is pretty much agreed now. Similar to the Tello situation it is a 1 year loan with no option to buy. Should be announced within 48hrs but due to Premiership start not unveiled until the beginning of next week.

Dempsey - Should be unveiled before this weekend as a LFC player with Adam going in the other direction after he decided that he would move. That is what has been delaying everything.

This is all I have so far, but if I hear anything else I will let you know.

Subtilty

Seems reasonable. This adds alot of depth to our squad, now all we have to sort out is who's going to be shipped out. Either on loan or permanent, Pacheco, Carroll, Adam and spearing. Maybe some of the youngsters on loan.

Will Dempsey be available for west brom because i'de love to see him play!

Ed is it confirmed that we have missed out on tello?
Thanks. {Ed002's Note - Not yet.}

Agger set to stay as MCFC make move for Godin.
Having baulked at the £25million asking price Man City have cooled interest in Agger and unless Barcelona come in with a substantial offer it looks moe and more likely he will sign an extended contract with LFC.

Today's Irish News reporting that Suso lit up last night's game against Crusaders in Belfast. 'Bagged the goal of the game..taunted and teased ..until he was replaced after 60 minutes to a standing ovation.' Bodes well for the future.
Learpholl

Was at the match and yes he was the games outstanding player until replaced after the hour mark. Liverpool res lost much of their fluidity when he was subbed. On another note Ibe looks a fantastic prospect for one so young has all the tools to make it to the very top. Wish we had of seen more of Teixria as he was given a cameo only, Eccleston's time is up Im afraid...

I think we should try and steal the deal for Anita of Ajax I've never Hurd of him or seen him play but he's signing for Newcastle so he will probably be a very cheap succes story thoughts Eds?

Okay you want us to sign a player you have never watched or heard of just because another team is after him. Well it works for Spurs.
derryred

Yeah, this was just a stupid post mate, sry... But i can tell u that Anita is a decent player who can work well on lb and dm... Not sure he is any better than enrique though, and he isnt all that

15 Aug 2012 15:19:02
Sahin much more likely than Tello. Sahin could be done as early as tomorrow.

Cheers
Odd Job.

15 Aug 2012 15:13:29
According to the terms of the settlement, Standard Chartered will pay a "civil penalty" of $340m to the New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS).

Nothing to do with Liverpool they are sponsor us not won the club.

15 Aug 2012 15:10:27
Now that it looks like Tello is staying at Barca, Dempsey transfer dragging on, Johnson unlikely to join as Agger doesnt want to go to City and neither Affelay and Walcott looking very likely who else might we go for in these attacking wide positions?

Also is there any chance of us hijacking the Mirralas deal to the blues? What a buy at 5.3m he would be. I cannot believe we are letting our rivals snap up a player who could do well for us.

Yeah, we should buy everyone that every team tries to buy, that way no teams will buy any players and we'll have a squad of 852 playes to choose from each week - we can't fail can we?

We've already let one Belgian slip to them remember being linked with Fellaini before he joined the blues but seems unlikely we would make a move for him as Rodgers only buys players he has managed before

How many times have you actually ever seen Miralles play?!

Everyone can buy cause they have sold a player when we consider that there's an uproar!

15 Aug 2012 15:04:38
Hi Ed's can we expect any more signings... Sahin, Dempsey ect before our first game of the season way at West Brom?

Cheers

JonesyLFC {Ed002's Note - I cannot say when transfers will be processed, but efforts are being made as you are aware.}

15 Aug 2012 14:49:31
Agger has said that the one team that could lure him away from Anfield is Barcelona

I dont think hes pushing for a move there, simply just confirming that he has no interest in moving to City.

Btw. why would Barcelon buy agger for 27 mill when they are trying to get song for 19

Song is rumoured to play cb with barce

Compared to Agger Song's Rubbish Lol, so the 27 million pounds being quoted is a fair price.

15 Aug 2012 14:48:15
hey eds! Ed002 if ur available! two questions for u! where do you expect van persie will end up at the end of the window and in your opinion will lampard play as regularly next season with all the investment this year at chelsea and the fact he only has one year left on contract!

Cheers! {Ed002's Note - Van Persie will sign a new deal at Arsenal or head to Old Trafford. Lampard will not play in every game but will play regularly.}

I sincerely hope that this wasn't a Liverpool supporter with a subliminal wish for us to sign Lampard? I saw a a website headline today saying Lampard wants to finish his career at Stamford Bridge - I thought he had !

Hey Ed if Tello does decide on not coming to us do you think we could jump in on Evertons interest in Miralles?
We were interested in him a while back..
Skurks {Ed002's Note - I don't know.}

Why would we want him?

Who Miralles? Because he Is a good player and I would rather him than Sinclair!
Skurks

We're not getting Sinclair though, so that's a bit of a pointless comparison.

Yes but Ed022 has even said that Sinclair is of interest so he's more likely if we don't get Tello.
Why can't you sign your name?
Skurks

15 Aug 2012 14:27:26
hi eds, great site by the way

do you think stirling will play reasnobly regulary this season? or just in the fringes, he seems like a good talent and scored a good goal against bayern levurkusen. he looks like a great finishes which is what we have needed since torres left.

thanks eds keep it up.

15 Aug 2012 14:25:51
If we could get Dempsey and Sahin and hold on to Agger I reckon that would be a very good transfer window in terms of players in, although we could do with getting Adam, Carroll and possibly Spearing (for his own benefit) off the wage bill. Sahin is just magic and as close to Alonso as I think there is out there. I really believe Joe Cole could shine under Rodgers in this system and along with Lucas they could be like two new signings.

To be perfectly honest though if we can keep hold of Agger I wouln't care if we didn't sign anyone else, really have alot of respect fur the fella and I think it would send a really bad message if we sold someone when both himself and the manager desperately wants him to stay!

Fae Delboy. Sorry 1st time poster, thought my name would come up automatically.

15 Aug 2012 14:25:46
i reckon tello will fit better into liverpool squad rather than adam johnson as hes played all through the barca youth ranks and i reckon barca will offer tello as makeweight for agger and city will do the same although they will use adam so were gonna lose agger and brendan rodgers to play danny wilson alot more as this is his make or break season at liverpool and the only other signing will be nuri sahin should be in before the city game before next weekend but after the WBA game so that he is fully foucused on a game that is just days away

IF agger left i think coates would be used as a replacement before wilson don't you? assuming they don't buy a replacement of course

15 Aug 2012 14:22:28
It's crazy to think that Henderson cost the same as Mascherano, and 5 mil more than Alonso.

JimmyHustle

Different market, different times. Since the Sheikh decided to have a play think in Citeh football has and never will be the same again, players wages and fees where already out of control now they have gone stratospheric!

Alonso cost £7m.

Have I missed something again, I thought the last time Alonso was sold he cost £33m. And prices have considerably inflated since we paid £11m for him in 2004.

John B

Alonso cost £10m in 2005. Mascherano cost £18m two years later. Henderson cost £14m in 2011.

What's your point?

Alonso actually cost £10.5 million and does it really matter?!

Its amazing that people continue to slate jordan. how good were alonso and mascerano at the age of 22 ? would they have been that good getting played out of position ? jordan is a better player than you think.
derryred

Need to give Henderson a chance

I think its more amazing that people dont understand that there are ALOT more than just the transfer fee that makes the total package... A player costing 15m can be alot more expensive than one who cost 25m, but thats another story, just had to say people get to hung up in the transfer fee... Sorry for bad english

The lucas syndrome seems to have hit Henderson he has only had one season give the kid a chance

I'm not slating the lad - just making a clear point at how the transfer market has gone bonkers.

I realise a few years have passed, but prices being paid these days are bordering on the ridiculous.

JimmyHustle

15 Aug 2012 14:21:26
If Barca want Agger, is there a chance that Tello could be part of the deal or maybe Mascherano?

15 Aug 2012 14:21:05
Agger admits barca would be great! Sounds like something happening. Perphaps Tello might not be the only barca player we sign. Can't see them paying the £20+ mill plus we want, then again they did for sanchez and fabregas, and they do need a quality CB.

I would accept slightly less and let him go there over man city least he doesn't play us then.

Thanks,

Jordan

Agger don't want to play another English team he is a true Red fan.

15 Aug 2012 14:19:54
everton sign jelavic for 5m, gibson for 1m, that naismith for free (although he's probably scottch garbage) and now looks like theyre getting mirallas for 5m. theres half a team for less than allen, let alone the boys we brought in last summer. sometimes i wish we were as skint as the bitters so we'd use our money more wisely...

Everton are never going to win the Prem.. We are!

Look at the money they spent on Bilyaletdinov.

Mike B

You obviously miss the fact that as soon as LFC want to bid for somone the price rockets - do you think that if we had wanted Jelavic, the price would have been £6m, or Mirallas would cost us £5m - I'd rather be the team we are and pay more, than be a blue and pay less.

John B

Jelavic is decent
Gibson and Naismith are awful
Mirallas hasn't signed
Their ground is made of wood
They haven't won a trophy in 17 years
They have no money
Their chaiman is a clown who is more interested in his theatre work
They view finishing above Liverpool as a magnificent achievement
They owe the banks millions of pounds

How I wish I was an Everton fan.

Come on, at least try and have a bit of banter. This is like shooting fish in a barrel.

JRG

Is this the same person talking about Gibson as this morning? WTH?

Let's give them credit as they do spend wisely but will never be able to compete with us.

So sounds to me you're saying naismith is garbage because he's scottish? I seem to remember a certain mr dalglish being not too bad of a player or maybe souness or how about hansen or maybe nicol, lets see john wark perhaps, any more oh wait ian st john, that billy liddell wasn't bad apparently either

and the rest of your post was a joke as well

Hey mate that is a bit harsh are you sure its us that are the bitter ones come on take it on the chin its banter lol Stef the blue

Have you ever seen Everton win a trophy, Stef ?

Gibson heh heh! Priceless..........paisley's genius

15 Aug 2012 14:04:33
Eds, is there any info you can give us on the apparent bid that West Ham made of which we accepted but Carroll declined?

Is there any info on the fee? Cheers. {Ed002's Note - This was covered a couple of weeks back.}

15 Aug 2012 14:01:54
A Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo" have reported Ian Ayre held talks with Tello and his representatives, but Barcelona have assured him first team playing time and a substantial pay rise.... It confuses me though, wasn't he left out of the first team squad? {Ed002's Note - He is in the B Squad and can be called up as cover.}

15 Aug 2012 13:59:04
while we would all like to see a few new signings please be a little bit patient, im sure BR has a long term plan that involves a few of the younger players coming through the ranks and dosent want to dishearten them by signing to many 'established players' and make them feel like they wont get many chances to breakthrough. its a fine balancing act getting that just right. Also can we stop some of the crank rumours.

Rob

15 Aug 2012 13:50:19
Hi EDs, only a quick question. Were mentioning names such as Sahin, Tello, Wallcot, Johnson, Butland + Dempsey - Are there any other potential signings that you think may come in / that we are looking at?

Thanks in Advance

Froggleton {Ed002's Note - Much will depend on who leaves.}

15 Aug 2012 13:57:36
hey lfc fans..........

tello will not be coming to liverpool............

reports in spain which are happening at the moment are saying he is set to stay

so lets end this one...and talk about other possibles

romeored

Not entirely true....agger might be used as a sweetner for barca

Dwood

15 Aug 2012 13:52:06
Eds since the word coming from spain is tello will not join, will sahin and dempsey still sign? {Ed002's Note - They are not dependent on each other.}

15 Aug 2012 13:45:40
Quick question ed,

I heard, from an admittedly less than reputable journalist, that tello will be part of a deal for agger which will be 10 million up front with a further 8 in installments plus tello. Does this seem plausible?

Nevada {Ed002's Note - Please don't ask me about justifying hearsay from a "less than reputable journalist".}

15 Aug 2012 13:44:55
Eds, do you know what happened to my comment on Darren Fletcher? I know it was posted, I saw some of the replies, but now its gone. Any reason why? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm sorry there are people who think like that. I guess all clubs have their persons.

15 Aug 2012 13:11:52
A lot of people seem to think loan deals will not benefit us in the long term.. I disagree. Yes we lose the player after they gain a year of experience, but if Sahin and Tello make the difference that takes us from 5th to 4th, we all of a sudden have Champions league football to offer, as well as a much bigger budget!

So yeah they walk away with a year of experience and take that to another club, but we get a year of a top footballer with no major fee involved, and end up in a much stronger position to sign top players next summer.

YNWA! (Adam)

If they do well, there is nothing stopping us bidding for the players and signing them permanently.

Exactly...tello will score..for sure...
but we need another striker and replace caroll..
no plan b..no plan c..just go and play one simple game..possession and passing..
if they park their bus infron of us..
we will just draw at worst..never loose..
match is won wen u score...

15 Aug 2012 13:33:41
Irrelevant but Fabrice Muamba has retired from football.

:( Sad news.

Maisey.

Better for him to have retired, considering what could have happened to him though.

Kev.

Very sad. But he will get an excellent insurance payout. Could go into coaching perhaps.

15 Aug 2012 13:07:48
Hey eds is the Tello deal off? And please say we haven't let Ramirez go? These two plus Sahin and Dempsey could provide us with a top four finish {Ed002's Note - Read the posts please.}

Looks like tello is shying away from clubs abroad. If he wants to waste his career on barcas bench then so be it.

15 Aug 2012 13:00:20
Hey ed just wondering any interest in yohan gorcuff .touted as a future worldbeater just a year ago.might be worth a cheeky bid.rodgers type of player any thoughts

His attitude stinks.

He struggled very badly at Milan a few years ago, and I can tell you the Milan staff felt very long3t down by his unwillingness to learn and integrate with the squad. He doesn't do well in high pressure environments.

Nevada

15 Aug 2012 12:58:13
surely the liverbird, fans' passion and the history are more important to sahin than living in london

Fans passion ok, but why would the other wo matter to him?

At the end of the day the only reason he would go to arsenal over us is because of CL football. Not because of London or arsene wenger.

15 Aug 2012 12:52:48
ed: Why aren't we trying for Kevin Mirallas? Has a lowish buyout and now everton are trying to get him. apparently he's in liverpool today, we should ambush him like we did with sissoko when he was going to sign for everton. Mirallas is a really good player, seriously we cant afford to pass this one up.

The fact that he's is going to the bitters tells you everything. He isn't that good, otherwise he would sign for a big club.

Rubbbish...is he not good for u...oh yeah...so we thought caroll is world footballer of the year..so we signed him??

Sorry my friend but he is a quality player Rogers hopes are on Dempsey he over looked this Belgian lad like Kenny over looked the Jellyman .On the topic of a big club im a afraid you are no longer a big club you spent hundreds of milliones over the last 15 years and cant win the prem if we spent have of what you did we would of won it at least 3 or 4 times it comes down to management and there eye for a player which simply Kenny didnt have [Carroll]and now Rogers [Borini] but good luck anyway this season you will be in a good battle for 8th spot this year again were as we will challenge the BIG CLUBS for 4th spot. Stef the blue

Beg to differ with the second response. We were saying the same about jelavic and look how that turnt out. If we could purchase mirralas for £6.5 mill then we should go for it especially as we missed out on tello.

But in those years, net spend has not been excessive - but we have put silverware in the cabinet - I don't think the hard up blues have.

John B

3rd response agree with you bout jellyman and you could be right over this Belgian lad but come on mate moyes has'st always got it right , Beattie , van der meyde just two I can think of.

On the subject of the last 15 years we all know we have spent daft but hey some of the best night's of my life have happened in them years and it was all caused by Liverpool football club , so before you go saying we hav'nt won the prem have a little look back from 98 an you will see there is only a couple of teams that have won more so I think you could and most defo can call Liverpool a big club .

Sorry mate but in todays football you are no longer a big club yes you have a great history but so have we but the difference with Everton supporters is they accept it but Liverpool fans wont accept it but i can honestly say Everton the sleeping giant is starting to wake up and with a little bit of investment we will rocket back to the top were we belong .Stef the blue

No club that has won the champions league and league combined once in the last 22 years is not truly a big club, and even Man Utd have won the champs league more in that same period cos they are a massive club.

Big love to stef the blue on his jolly on Liverpool forum & wishing you all the best for the forthcoming season. Alex nyarko

Burnt toast is quite tasty

Sahin is almost certain, not too sure about Tello.

I'm getting....are Defo Going to be signing a proven goal scorer. I know we have Borini but we need a proven 20 goal a season man...ur thoughts? Cheers

Yes exactly...suarez and borni can score as much as 35 goals max.....we need a striker..caroll not gonna do anyting big this summer...sell him and bring mirallas
6mill...27 goals in 48 games..
looks quality..and can oprate on right side..
need striker very much

Definately Defoe then.

I was inclind to your thinking but i feel with the squad now with front three of suarez borini and carrol also wallcot and or johnson and demsey plus gerrards goals i think each one ive mentioned is worth ten to fifteen goals each some even more so i think we should have plenty of goals there love to hear other peoples ideas cheers

mike

15 Aug 2012 12:39:39
But walcott can also finish so with our midfield with excellent passing we can put the ball in front of theo can sprint on to it, because no-one will catch him.

The only problem that i can see with walcott is that with liverpool looking like we are going to be having alot of possesion next year thus meaning teams will be sitting back deep walcotts main atribute his pase will be less needed and effective.

I think Walcott misses alot lot more than he scores! We dont need another miss firing striker / winger - dont think the wood work at Anfield van take it!

Walcott will do no less than Downing at the VERY VERY least. he offers more and teams like to counter attack in the Prem therefore we will counter attack them when they are out of position when we get the ball off them after trying to counter attack us.

Every striker misses more than he scores its LIFE

15 Aug 2012 12:36:25
If we do get sahin, tello as well as Allen, Lucas etc this will be the first time that I have looked at our midfield and not been anxious about Gerard not playing. Obv would still like Gerard to play but not so worried

Gav

Its gonna be..
lucas sahin and allen in mid..
and gerrard behind borini/dempsy and suarez..
i would want mirallas also...
pls sign him..
welost ramirez, no interest in matias suarez..
miralllas looks quality foe me..

Mirallas would make sense especially as we have missed out on tello.

15 Aug 2012 12:46:09
Just wondering when the last time Liverpool loaned in a player that was used in the first team squad straight away!?

LFC loaning in players doesn't happen that often, we loan a lot of players out!

Thoughts?

YNWA jns

Anelka?

JRG

Might be a good move, it seems to have worked for Spurs.

I honestly can't remember the last time we loaned a player.

RAH, YNWA

Anelka?

Erik_Oslo

The last successful one was Anelka, I think our last loan signing was a goalkeeper called padelli, that was 5 years ago. But the rest of the top teams loan players all the time; Chelsea(Maniche)Arsenal(Benayoun,Baptista)Man United(Larsson),Man city(Pizzaro),Real Madrid(Reyes)AC Milan(Ibrahimovic)
Irishdom15

Anelka as far as I remember.

Quigz23

Anelka and mascherano

pd

Anelka i think {Ed049's Note - Mascherano}

Anelka was a loan

Paul Jones? Ronny Rosental?

Anelka is the last I can think of that had an impact on the 1st team

Anelka and Mascherano Redevon

Think it was actually Mascherano from West Ham on loan then made permanent transfer to us for £18m

Rocky

Mascherano from West Ham maybe the last ?
Jay92

Anelka - yes totally forgot he was a loan.

It has been a while though!

YNWA jns

Anelka and mascherano, a long time ago.
mascherano was a brilliant player

Good call Ed totally forgot that Mascherano was a loan initially as well.

Just an observation really, but even though Christian Tello looks like he's gonna sign an extension to his contract at Barcelona, he's not included in the squad list on Barca's official website!! He was on the list last season so i think a loan deal to Liverpool is still on the cards, i'm sure we'll sign another new player before this weekend and another before the close of the transfer window.

Rocky {Ed002's Note - He is on the B Squad list.}

He's on the B squad list but wouldn't it be more beneficial for him to play first team football at Liverpool for a season an getting the experience? David Villa is back fit at Barca now so i think Tello would find first team opportunities hard to come by... And under Brendan Rodgers who plays similar to Barcelona style of play i think it would be a good deal for both teams.

Rocky

Let tello waste his career at Barcelona B and achieve nothing lol.

15 Aug 2012 12:29:58
i see from ssn everton are advanced with both niang and k mirralas we could do with some fast cheap flair me thinks .

lets have a great season get us back to where we belong cheers all mal...

Problem is as soon as Liverpool show interest the price goes up atleast £5m +.

Both looks absolute quality signing...
what are we looking at..
its been an year behind dempsy...
as if its like a messi deal..

Kevin Mirallas would cost his buy out clause which is something like £6.5mill. We just missed out on tello, a player very similar to him. It would make sense of we bought him. Unless we want to spend £15 mill on AJ or walcott.

15 Aug 2012 12:23:05
Agger rules out Man City and will only leave Liverpool for Barcelona, clever by Agger, he must know Barca will never match FSG's asking price.

Barca never match anyones asking price but still seem to get their player.

Whats all the hype about sahin a highly overated player personally i do not rate him i think he would be waste of wages we need someone like sorry to say this but gibson of.everton a alonso type of player who hasnt got a high price tag and can score from range

Funniest post of the day

Have you completely lost your mind?......

Mate, Gibson is shocking!

davethebutcher

You sir, are an absolute looney, or u have neve seen sahin play... personally i dont think sahin would be that great, since we have others in that position, but sahin is a quality player

Funniest thing I have ever read in my life

You clearly don't know much about football! Sahin is an exceptional talent but injury and difficulty breaking into a settled Real Madrid side have not been easy. He will offer us something different and add squad depth, although I'm certain he will expect 1st team action. Most of the top teams have several players that can change a game, we only have Suarez and Gerrard. I would imagine he'll push Lucas, Allen and possibly Gerrard for a starting berth. YNWA

I seriously hope this post is meant as a joke.

JRG

Gibson shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Alonso

Stone me, none of you bed wetters heard of tounge in cheek.

Obviously a bitter.

Gibson . haha. ha. he is awwwful, apart from the fact they both have brown hair in what way is he anything remotely like alonso? gibson only scores 1 in 10 from range. funniest thing i've read for a while

Please tell me that you only watch the Premier League.

If Gibson was as good as you think he would be starting for Utd not the bitters week in week out.

Omg is all i can say are you havin a laugh gibson is an average player an we need attack minded players mate

Was a joke to get some laughs on here as some people take stuff so seriously but I think with the blues in talks with niang and mirallas they are both buys which could make a impact for us niang a long term buy maybe a loan out to a bottom side of the table side for game time but I watch Greek football often and seen mirallas play alot he's a quality player and you can't say he's In a bad league he is but he's proven on international level he caused England havoc in that game along with hazard and afro man

Gibson err........Debbie Gibson? Only in my dreams Debbie Gibson? Was she good at set pieces? Heard Tiffany was good with both feet though........

According to the Liverpool Echo both the Sahin and Tello deals are close to completion.
Sounds like Guillem Balague believes the Tello deal is 50/50.
We shall see. Seems like the Tello deal will hinge on how much playing time he is offered at Barca this year.

Rumours all over the press that Tello is staying at Barca, I think this one is wait and see what happens!

Sahin seems like things have moved on and are a bot more certain.

Both players id love to see at Liverpool.

NS

If any of the two wasn't to come, I would prefer tello not to come hands down. Although he is a great talent, it's a bit like another borini on loan. I wouldnt mind him at all but would prefer Walcott or Adam Johnson.

Very anxious just hate the fact that Arsenal are rivaling us

And we will lose out yet again.

Eds do u think this season gerrard will be saved for the big games letting Sahin
if we get him filling in? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Evey game counts, pl games anyway

we should be doing our best to help get a work permit for m suarez.... gotta get our hands on him whatever the obstacles..

Dwood

Didn't a Russian club turn down the chance to sign him due to him failing his medical!

15 Aug 2012 11:55:03
i dont care who we sign from now if agger signs a new contract i will be delighted

15 Aug 2012 11:49:54
Hello everyone! I know some people might disagree to this post but what if we have a middle 3 of sahin, allen and lucas with a front 3 of gerrard suarez abd borini?
Agree or Disagree
Redmanluka

I would agree with that. With Gerrard in a ' free role'

K.Bennett

4-3-1-2 love it

cozinoz

Yeah thats good i would prefer front three of suarez carrol borini suarez in the free roll let him do wat he wants just how uraguay play thats when he is at his best. now midfield is the hard one if nuri signs i would have nuri lucas gerrard but then wat about allen well justs shows were gonna have the best midfield in the world again to be honest i was a liitle down for this season but if we get nuri and wallcot or tello im very optamistic!
the most imortant thing is to keep agger cheers

just wanted to say Xabi Alonso has just come in on to 9/4 from 4-1 to join Liverpool this transfer window. Sahin now 1/3 fingers crossed

15 Aug 2012 11:41:14
Why don't we go for Affelay instead of Tello then?

15 Aug 2012 11:36:12
It appears that our blue-nosed inferiors from across the Park are very close to signing Kevin Mirallas (sp) and Adam Johnson according to various sources. Only mentioning this because they've both been linked to us over the last couple of months.
As I don't particularily rate either as highly as what we already have this doesn't bother me.
I just hope we can secure the services of G.Ramirez/C.Dempsey/N.Sahin.
I think Enrique, Downing and Henderson can all have big seasons but the future of Kenny's other signings looks less certain. Hope Carroll comes good and Agger stays but I'm not willing to put money on either.
A word on Charlie Adam........at Blackpool he was revered as a dead-ball specialist and was a pretty big fish. At Anfield the pond is considerably bigger and he's been way down the pecking-order for corners and free-kicks. When he has taken dead-balls his delivery has been mostly awful. He played quite well until Lucas got injured but after that he failed to cope with his new responsibilities. With the possibility of Allen,Gerrard, Lucas, Sahin, Henderson, Shelvey and Coady in CM I can't see a future for Adam or Spearing. Any deals that knock a couple of million off the Dempsey deal or brings in a couple of million in fees (Spearing to Reading, Forest?) would be good business for us.
While I'm in a negative mode, we don't need Ecclestone or Pacheco and we'd do very well to get Joe Cole off the wage-bill.
The reserves should be an extension of the first-team.....a side of players good enough to step in when required. Raheem Sterling can come off the bench and offer something to change a game. Jack Robinson can easily cover for Enrique and Flanagan, Kelly, Suso and Wisdom are also excellent options in reserve. Nathan Eccleston, a Manc, isn't anywhere near good enough to play for Liverpool and Pacheco won't get the chances he craves (although he impressed in Toronto).
On a positive note, I honestly think we can win the League this year !!.....Based on years and years of watching footie at this level I can confirm that old adage that "the League's a marathon...not a sprint!)
Our last few(?) seasons have started with a similar positivity. Last season we started the campaign having spent quite a few bob on Kenny's back to the future tactics. Fine until Lucas got injured but, as a season-ticket holder,
I was forced to endure a raft of home draws against mediocre opposition. The amount of times we hit the woodwork is irrelevant...we finished eighth and won the Mickey Mouse Cup before losing to Chelski in the FA Cup Final.
Next season we need to achieve nothing according to our owners. The pressure's off Brendan Rodgers (apparently) but I would be very surprised if F.S.G. showed the required amount of patience in Brenan's project if, like Kenny, he's 37pts off the pace. In short, they won't but,in reality, we won't be far off the pace. Even without the reported signings we will surpass eighth in the League. With the possible signings coupled with Big Bren's tactics we can surprise a lot of our detractors. Playing all the big teams early on could be a massive plus !
The season started when the transfer-window opened and I'm excited by who we could bring in. Chelsea and Man U are running geriatric programmes and Man Citeh are in danger of disappearing up their own Kippax.
Newcastle never ever win anything and Everton's 17 year wait for more than a corner looks set to continue. Tottenham Hotspurs are (apparently) a football team in London but I've Googled "North London European Success/ League winners etc" and I'm getting nothing but porn and Injury Lawyers.
Why do we fear Yiddos and Geordies when they can't hold a candle to us?
Aston Villa, Everton, Arsenal, Stoke !!???
Frick Off!
Liverpool, under Brendan Rodgers, are back!
We are 40/1 to win the League.....Okay, it's a long-shot but £20 at Ladbrokes would be a safer bet than giving it to the bent b******s at the banks!
ANFIELDPETE

Throwing in a few long words does not detract from the fact that your post was absolute twaddle!

HAHA you dont really rate Johnson or Mirallas your sad mate thinking you will do better than us this season. What i dont understand is we finished ahead of you last season and now were about to add more quality.Just face it your your just a jealous kopite that sees no real progress coming under Rogers if you got A Johnson you would be doing loop the loops and hula hoops around Merseyside like you all did when you signed Joe i left my tallent back at Chealsea Cole. Face it Liverpool are being left behind so stop slating other clubs that are making progress .Stef the blue

Stef the blue. There is nothing, absolutely nothing for Liverpool fans to be jealous of Everton. Quick question Stef, Have you ever seen Everton win a trophy?

Yes 1995 fa cup and i was kid back in the 80s but can remember our success back then when we were winning league and cup doubles . Stef the blue

Liverpool are superior to everton by a long shot. Our current team would be better than your once you've added AJ and mirralas. But then we get sahin, Dempsey and another player...that might suprise a few.

The only thing that Liverpool fans should be jealous of Everton fans is the peace and quiet at Goodison when suffering from a hangover.

It looks like Demspey deal has been agreed and he will sign by the weekend for 8 million, Nuri Sahin also looking like hes coming in on a year long loan by the weekend, Charlie Adam looks sets to join Fulham as part of the Dempsey deal and Jay Spearing looks set to go to Nottingham Forest for 2million..Agger may now stay and a new deal is being discussed..Carroll looks set to go to Newcastle at the end of the window for around 15million...YNWA...

Hope these would all be true with maybe tello

15 Aug 2012 11:32:38
I would just like to assess our chances of finishing in the champions league places for next season, and assess the others chances too.

Now, as to where we can finish in the league next season, I trully believe we can finish as high as 3rd. I think it's obvious that both Manchester clubs will take 1st and 2nd. That then leaves 3rd and 4th up for grabs. So lets assess the other clubs challenging for these spots.

Chelsea - While they have spent big so far, they have not addressed there main problem - replacing Drogba. Torres could come good this season, but know they have loaned out Lukaku (for me is the next Drogba) the only recognised strikers left are Torres (short of form) ans Sturridge (future up in the air). Yes, they have signed Hazard for big money, but he cannot speak English, hasn't delivered on the international stage, and I'm sure will take at least 6 months for him to settle into the English game.

Arsenal - They are set to loose there best assest, not to mention 3/4 of there goals last season. Even if he doesn't leave, I can't se the same RVP as last season, what with his head wanting to move. Yes they have signed Giroud and Podolski, but I remember the hype surrounding the last striker they signed from France (Chamakh), and Podolski spectacularly failed at the only big club he has played for (Bayern Munich).

Tottenham - Probably our closest rivals for champions league. We lost out to Siggurdsson sure, but is he really that good? For me they have the best winger combination in the league in Bale and Lennon, but there is currently no one there to dross to. They look set to miss out on Adebayor and Damiao, and with the inconsistency of Defoe, they to are struggling to address there main problem. Plus Modric leaving could be a real hammer blow for them.

Newcastle - They have a great team spirit. They have good players. They overachieved last season though, but I think 5th is as high as that group of players can go. They haven't really added to that squad so far, and they may be distracted by the Europa League, not to mention a few of their stars may leave before the end of the window.

No to assess us;

- We have a good manager in Brendan Rodgers
- We have a good philosophy
- We have a world class keeper
-We have one of the best defences in the league last season (even if Agger leaves, I'm sure Coates can step up, or we can get a younger, fitter replacement in).
-We have up and coming youngsters in Sterling, Suso, Robinson and Flanagan (possibly Morgan).
- We have Steven Gerrard
-We have a good midfield in Gerrard, Lucas and Allen, and the addition of Sahin will add quality, not even mentioned Henderson and Shelvey.
- We have a potentially great partnership with Borini and Suarez.
- we have a world class player in Suarez, and a real poacher in Borini.
- If he stays, we have a good plan B in Carroll.

So the only areas we really need to improve are both the wing positons. I'm sure Downing will improve this season, and one of Borini and Suarez will play on the right swapping roles with each other. So it really only leaves the left wing. Tello on loan seems to me like we could be trying to get him perminantely after the loan, which would be a real asset to the squad. Ramirez is still a possibilty. The introduction of Dempsey will also add the ability to score goals in the EPL which we really need.

Conclusion - We may not be in a better financial position than the rest of the contenders, but do we realy need to be? We have already added quality in Borini and Allen, and I'm sure BR will look to add more. The fact is we don't need to spend vast sums of cash to improve the squad as the nucleus of the team is already implace. The other contenders so far have either failed to address there main problems, face losing key players from that nucleus, or haven't added to what they already have. Yes we may lose Agger, but we have Coates who will be a top defender, we have Carra and Kelly who can also cover, and I'm sure IF he goes we will sign a good replacement. Sure we may lose him, but we can replace him. Can Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham really replace RVP, Drogba and Modric?

Thanks for reading,

Lewis the Red

This post is so naive and blinded that it makes me angry. You have pointed out other teams weaknesses (and in some cases you have simply went off on a tangent to make them seem bad) and tried your best to ignore there strengths. Concurrently you have ignored our weaknesses and focused only on our strengths - not exactly a balanced point of view.

I am going to try and be more realistic - Chelsea: They are apparently in discussions with Cavani and have alos looked at Hulk - they are not afraid to spend money in huge quantities, the transfer window is still open, expect them to strengthen there squad further. There real concern is there defence and in particular the right-back position. If Chelsea manage to find a suitable, quality right back they will be looking incredibly strong with a lot of depth. The only plus is Di Matteo is not vastly experienced, his tactics were very negative and, on more than one occasion, Chelsea rode their luck under him. He might enjoy similar fortunes this year but I suspect not - if he cannot organise the team and get them playing cohesive football then he might struggle. Personally I think he will do well. I see Chelsea as nailed on 3rd (or maybe even runners-up).

Arsenal play good football, always have talented youngsters coming through and have signed 2 players to replace RVP. Giroud is powerful with a good finish - can he hack the premier league? Who knows, but I wouldn't write him off so easily. Podolski is class and his game is suited to the Premiership. he had a badtime at Bayern but he has proven himself in Bundesliga and on the International stage, I don't think goals will be concerning Arsenal too much. Conceding them may again be the problem but the window is still open,it is difficult to write off any team until it shuts, they won't be displaced from the Champions League spots as easly as you say.

Tottenham are good, have an abundance of talent and will undoubtedlysign more players (perhaps our former target Ramirez). If they put a run together they will be dangerous and they could get the Champions League place this season if they can keep consistent. The big test for Spurs is AVB - he played tactics that left Chelsea way too exposed and, in the Premierleague, that costs you dear. Has he learnt is lesson? I think hemight struggle, again will be a clearer idea of Spurs once the window shuts.

Newcastle - punched above there weight last seasonbut have kept the nucleus of the team whihc is very talented, wouldn't write them off just yet, especially if they sign Carroll off us, we haven't seen the best of him but I think they will.

You are judging Rodgers on a few pre-season friendlies, media conferences and 2 qualifying rounds for the Europa League - lets wait before saying how good he is (or isn't).

Reina was not World Class last season. Our defence is tight but if we lose Agger don't expect Coates to just glide in seamlessly. And expect Skrtels perfromances to deteriorate - Agger makes everyone lining up next to him look better, I cannot say enough how good Agger is and how important it is that we keep him, one of the best defenders in Europe easily - may have injury problems but I don't see that as enough of a reason to let him go.

Youngsters impact will be limited this season, there development is something to get excited about in future seasons.

Gerrard is injury prone and inconsistent and his best days are behind him. he still has a part to play at the club but lets not pretend like he is the saviour he used to be.

Our midfield does look good - if we get a few wingers in we will be looking rosy.

Borini-Suarez partnership is an unknown - again you are basing your assumptions on pre-season friendlies and competitive games against minnows.

The reason I am posting this response is not to depress fans but to add a sense of realism. Every year we get people, after a couple of signings, bigging our chances up massively based on nothing more than fallacy. We have the potential to get 4th but there are a lot of names in the hat and a lot of good teams in the same boat - i think a sense of realism and a dose of reality is needed. The club, the players, the staff, do not need this incessant unrealistic pressure placed on there shoulders on the back of every performance i.e one good game - could win the league! one bad game - we are awful!... it is insane. And fans do not need to be whipped up into an optimistic frenzy of expectation - I have seen it too many times at the beginning of the season, lets clear our heads and make our aims realistic and clear and grounded. 4th place is a possibility, but 5th place wouldn't be a disaster and would be the start of a long journey of progression and improvement.

SMc

Some very good points although Borini and Suarez wont be a partnership this year. Suarez will most likely play as the focal point of a three man attack.

Ciario

Calm down Smc it's just an opinion. Chill.

Lewis the Red.

Besides you are the one who is naive. You said the midfield is good and will be better with a couple of wingers which is exactly what I said. You said the Suarez and Borini partnership is an unknown, which is what I said. I said it could potentially be a great partnership.

Lewis the Red

Glad you aren't the manager if you think Gerrard's past it.

I never said he is past it, what I was trying to say was that he isn't the player he used to be, the out an out captain fantastic who wil save us time and time again when ourperformances are lacking. Gerrard is no longer a focal point but simply a part of the team.

What you were doing Lewis was building up this massive hype about how good we are and how well we can do this season which is based on absolutely nothing except a few pre season games. My aim wasto try an get past the pandemonium and present a more grounded view. Please don't tell me to calm down, its so condescending. Liverpool is my team and I feel passionately about them - telling me to calm down isn't even engaging with my agument, its just an infantile put down.

SMc

Does anyone think loaning players is just a bad idea? We will give experience to players who will simply leave when they mature at the expence of blooding in our own fringe
players. Long term does not seem to me a good policy and will give a false perception as to the health of the club.

Afellay and sahin could help us get 4th which then open up doors for the club, whereas a season blooding sterling suso and robinson who may just waste our time like ngog and insua did would set us back

It's a great stop gap if the right players are not available to buy or if the likes of Suso and Stirling are a year away from being first team regulars

cozinoz

I agree only positive is alot of the time it leads to a full contract if they settle in well..

15 Aug 2012 11:27:09
Sahins medical is scheduled for Friday and all being well will sign a 12 month loan on Saturday. Billy Mc.

15 Aug 2012 11:27:03
Ed can you please confirm who is the most likely to leave? Hope Adam swap with Clint will be done. Any more leavers? Is anybody interested in Spearing? Or maybe Henderson, Downing? I think Hendo wil come good but if offer comes in for them do you think they will be sold as BR said he has plans for both in the squad...Thx {Ed002's Note - Please keep up with the posts.}

15 Aug 2012 11:24:51
Hai Ed you must answer this question.
Y are we not signing Kevin Mirallas?
6 mill...for a striker who scored 27 goals is the best buy you could ever have...
are we interested in him..?
he looks top prospect..or is it becoz he is from a low league?
I saw him and found very good skillfull player..will never demand much wages..and will be the exact CF we need..
pls clear my confusion...
excellent work ed
YNWA {Ed002's Note - It is not possible to answer why Liverpool do not have an interest in players.}

Greek league very different

Kezman had better figures than that when he arrived in the prem where is he now.not saying he wont be a success its just massively different scoring goals in the prem than anywhere else

15 Aug 2012 11:14:08
Macca , Will the two signings be before wba game ? Cheers psv

Mate i doubt he can tell you that because there are a number of things that can happen to either speed up or himder the transfer.
derryred

15 Aug 2012 11:13:23
Macca , If Agger looks like he could still go has there been any action with regards for preparing for it?
Ed002 (I think) says we could go for Amorebieta but has anyone else been looked at. I know that with these arrivals make us look good as a club again but what if Agger goes and Amorebieta doesn't come off?
Brooksey1973

15 Aug 2012 11:08:41
If we do get Sahin and play Gerrard as a 'false 9' which I think he is capable of but I'm not sure if he will I can see him scoring over 20 goals in the season providing he is injury free most of the time.
Who agrees?!
Cal

15 Aug 2012 11:08:02
hi Ed, im a coventry fan but follow liverpool do you think theres any chance of spearing or any youngsters coming on loan? {Ed002's Note - I have no idea, sorry.}

15 Aug 2012 11:00:21
Ed002, lukaku's recent comment about wasting his time at Chelsea last season is quite interesting. Do you know whether he wants to leave permanently after his loan spell with west brom?

Thank you. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he wants but he remains very much a young raw talent who is not ready for the first team - hence the loan.}

I think his comment was relating to the time under AVB so seeing he is gone he is probably happier to stay with Chelsea

15 Aug 2012 10:59:49
if by august 31st at 11:59pm, liverpool's ins are made up of Borini, Allen, Dempsey, Walcott, and Sahin and Tello on loan..then I think a few people might have to apologise to BR and FSG. provided we get all of our targets, give or take, this will have been an absolutely superb transfer window and our squad will have been strengthened massively.

Rab

Agreed mate....

Dwood

Double-agree mate..especially if we can also offload Adam, keep Agger and perhaps Carroll...

I will be over the moon if all them signings , and keep agger and carroll....andy.

15 Aug 2012 10:50:07
Eds did BR play the same line up in the league matches? Kenny changed what team he played every game so I'm
Wondering if you think he'll use a different team every time or keep basically the same team (not including cup matches)

Cheers {Ed002's Note - Surely you can look up what teams he played?}

Ed we asked you if you can tell us and that is your job.

Thanks

ted {Ed002's Note - Of course it is not. Go look it up.}

And your 'job', ted, is to contribute to this site not leech from it

cozinoz

Cant believe that, am truly shocked !! as if the eds dont have enough "are we going to sign....." without ted the drip telling them off !! ........andy.

15 Aug 2012 10:45:51
In:
Borini - £10m
Allen - £15m
-
Guidetti - £5m
Tello - Loan
Sahin - Loan

15 Aug 2012 10:45:09
Hi Eds. Macca is saying that Walcott is now a Liverpool target. You have mentioned that IF Walcott comes available, then Liverpool will be interested. Does this mean that Walcott is now available and will leave Arsenal? {Ed002's Note - You are perhaps making too much out of this.}

15 Aug 2012 10:42:42
I heard Ramirez rejects move to Tottenham in favour of a move to Liverpool. if we signed Ramirez and played him Suarez and Borini as our front 3 we would dominate.
do you think we will sign Sahin, Ramirez and dempsey?

15 Aug 2012 10:39:23
Gaston Ramirez not dead in the water. Liverpool know he wants to come but his agent is playing hard ball and now that City have dropped out of the running it's an equal fight between Liverpool Inter and Spurs.

Mario from Milan

Oh God! Let it go, Ramirez is not signing for LFC...

15 Aug 2012 10:38:45
Morning Eds & Fellow Reds

If Tello and Sahin Sign along with Dempsey and if only Adam is the player leaving in this window, I just wonder what our wage bill might be. In my opinion it would be ridiculous to have 4-5 players at an average of over 90,000 pounds a week.

Do you really think we can sustain it?

Cheers

Players off the wage bill (not just Adam)

Dirk Kuyt (Fenerbache, £1m), Craig Bellamy (Cardiff, undisclosed), Alberto Aquilani (Fiorentina, undisclosed), Maxi Rodriguez (Newell's Old Boys, undisclosed) Fabio Aurelio (Gremio, free), David Amoo (Preston North End, free), Stephen Darby (Bradford, free),

maka YNWA JFT96 {Ed002's Note - You can add Poulsen as he was still on the wage bill until June 30. However, Aquilani's wages are still being boosted by Liverpool to the extent of 1.7M euros per year for the next two years.}

Why should that even concern you .if its to much then the board will do something about it. you really need a hobby fella

Have a look at the crazy wages we have paid to average players over the last 5-6 seasons!
REEGSLFC

15 Aug 2012 10:36:10
Quick question Eds. Does it seem boneheaded to anyone else to be looking at loaning another clubs CM and sending our young CM's Shelvey/Suso on loan. We're the best at producing/developing CM's in the world Gerard/Alonso/Mascherano/Sisoko/Lucas.
wouldn't we be better served developing our own assets in Central Midfield and going after attacking players? Surely we aren't going after Sahin.
I'm hoping we're really after Affeley.
Am I off base?

Sissoko? Really?

I thought sissoko was a beast

15 Aug 2012 10:35:21
weve just been told by an anfield official offers were in for theo, sahin, dempsey and tello (this we know) arsenal dont wanna let theo go, but will not offer 100k a week (as others have reported) to keep him, Liverpool have offfered more, so Theo can force the move through if he wants. Tello doesnt want to leave and barca dont wanna sell tho will let him leave on season long loan with option to recall. Hes not expected to move outside of Spain. Sahin was looking hopeful but we need to match his wage demands. DEmpsey as reported will drag on but is not a priority. The surprise loan deal we were after was a spanish striker Wouldnt disclose name as it could still be completed!

granted this isnt much new but it is true!
ps we were right about borini and allen

ynwa

No way will Liverpool pay 100k a week for Walcott - read the BR interview in the Telegraph.

John B

I dont understand why we want to sign a player who is 100k/w

15 Aug 2012 10:33:47
I have been against selling DA from day one But.... If he was sold (not to an English club) say Barca and we got cash plus a good player, We then bought a good all round centre back (don't know who) and had money in hand for other buys would this suit you or would you keep DA and go in to the season with what we have and maybe a loan player ?. With his lnjury record and the games he may miss this could end up being our best option as someone will have to cover for him anyway.
Just a thought.
Bobby.

I say keep him, and when he is injured or be feels like resting him to keep him it give Coates a go he will need playing time.

15 Aug 2012 10:08:51
Hi eds great work great site, just wanted to no if the sahin loan is a option to buy at the end of the season or just a season loan {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

What is the script with people on this site, constantly getting on Jay Spearing's back, you are mean't to be supporters. He's not the best player in the world but he has achieved more than most of you so called fans by representing our team. Rant Over!

And as supporters we have a right to voice our concerns over some of our players. He seems a nice enough lad, but he lacks the quality needed to play at the level we want to be at.

Lewis the Red

Agree now send him on for the best price, cost us in big matches last year .

Most peoples complaints about Jay Spearing are basically he is not good enough to be a Liverpool player - end of. I agree the vitriol against has been over the top, he seems like a nice lad, done well to play for the team he supports as you say, but it doesn't hide the facts, plenty of effort, very little skill.
If effort and desire was the reason to select a player for LFC - Eric Meijer would have become a legend, Sean Dundee would have played 500 games for us, Jan Molby would never have got a game - my god this could become the longest post ever on this site, so I'll stop - but I think you may get the gist, and that Jay needs to find a club that he will get regular football, but I do not see it being in the PL - it would be nice to be proved wrong though.

John B

In fairness Andriy Voronin played for Liverpool too so saying he's achieved more than most of us means nothing, alot of bad players have had opportunities at Liverpool but i'm glad all that's coming to an end... Spearing isn't a bad player at all, the problem is there's better players in midfield than him, he's tiny aswell for a midfielder, i cant see him getting a game in front of Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Shelvey and Henderson to be honest... He puts his heart and soul into the club and thats great fair play to him, but i'm sure he wants to play.

Rocky

He's rubbish mate. Tries his best but not good enough.

Neilp

He's not rubbish! He's just not a superstar! And we all know you can't have a team full of superstars. Get off his back, it must make it eaven harder to perform if he thinks he needs to prove himself everytime he plays.

Paul the red

While not wishing to put him in the same category i remember saying similar things about Lucas as most reds did at the time, so in future while i always see a player trying for liverpoll i will support them its the ones who just swan around with no effort that will get my criticism

That is a disgrace mentioning Lucas in same breath as Spearing - I had many very aggressive arguments about Lucas when he came - trying to tell people who sat near me on the Kop how good a player Lucas was - you are not the Brazilian under 20 captain unless you have something extra - which he has gone on to prove.

hi eds, why are we not looking at gaston ramirez, everything is heading towards sahin and i dont know why because he wants CL football and we cannot offer that only Arsenal can who are also looking to pick him up on loan, if we do not go for ramirez now then totenham will have him and it will end up Arsenal getting Sahin leaving us with no good CAM.

Thanks

So gerrard isn't a good CAM? Define good CAM because if gerrard isn't one I don't know who is...
Cal

Yes because Gerrard and Dempsey (if we sign him) would be awfull CAM'S. With Shelvey and Henderson as back up.

Why is Rodgers unsettling our players? Agger is saying he'd like to go to Barca now, the one club who get way with paying peanuts for players. We could end up with a really unhappy centre back on our hands come the start of the season. A similar thing has happened with Caroll.

I dont like the way these two have been treated this summer. If we need the money to enable other signings then you certainly don't do it publicly, you wait until the money is transferred.

Gazman

To quote Agger "Yes, I have spoken with him (Rodgers), anything else would have been strange,"

"We have talked about transfers, about the upcoming season and his ideas for the team and for me."

He added of the possibility of Rodgers wanting to transfer him: "No, absolutely not. But I do not think it is his call to make."

So Rodger's has told Agger he doesn't want to sell him, so why are you making up rumours that Rodger's is trying to unsettle him?

When it was suggested Carroll was for sale Rodger's said that everyone has a price, and no-one said anything. When Agger was a target for City Rodger's said that he doesn't want to sell him but everyone has a price and suddenly we're trying to sell him.

JRG

And exactly how do you know they have been treated like this - oh wait - the media says they have. I certainly haven't heard BR say anything derogatory about them, also I haven't heard him say they are for sale, all he has said is that EVERY player has his price, with no exceptions.

Please tell me why we don't just pay 4 million for tello. That is an absolute steal.

Could it be that he's just signed a new contract at Barca and that the fee would be way above that.

Everton are about to snap up Kevin Mirallas for 6-8 million. Having very little money has made them very shrewd.
The two Manchester clubs will be neck and neck. As will the two Liverpool clubs.

Are you serious?

Everton havent got £8 million though.

How much did they get for rodwell that was 15mil wasn't it?

They have now thanks to city.

They got 1m for yobo plus his relatively high wages of the books. got 1m for cahil and his high wages of the book about 7m between per year and got 12m upfront for rodwell. say 7m prob gom with bank he will get the belgium player. the banks dont get everything otherwise they would be in a relegation battle.

Looks like the liverpool scouts have gone missing like the cameroon athletes. Thats a bargain.

Red raj

Just got £12 mil for Rodwell!

One of the Eds stated the clause in his contract for that price has ended.
Cal

They also paid 4.5m for a player they let go for nothing last year dont forget.tommy Irish Red

The money went to the bank to pay off the debt.

What happened to this "star" loan signing its all went quiet or is one of sahin and tello? Personally i dont see them as stars!

One is and the other has the potential to be world class.

Sahin not a star? Thirty one caps for Turkey and bundesliga (Sp?) player of the year 2010- 2011. Sorry had to disagree . Redevon

Then im wondering what kind of player you see as viable loan options?

Sahin won player off the year in Germany it's just injuries and a very strong real Madrid midfield that is keeping him out

You couldn't have expected the 'star' loan player to be the likes of Higuain or Kaka.

Kev.

Yes he is. He was a star for Dortmund that's why Madrid bought him.

I think hes hoping for messi/xavi/iniesta, good news they are all done deals, gotta be happy now.

15 Aug 2012 09:24:01
Is the Tello deal off? Has he signed a new contract?

RedsMatt

The Tello deal could only happen after he'd signed an extension. He had a year left and Barca wouldn't loan him if they were going to lose him for nothing after. So if he has signed an extension, it probably changes little and negotiations are probably ongoing.

Him signing a new contract won't prevent a loan deal. It simply protects Barca's interests. The loan can still happen, IF he wants to come.

LFC_SA

If does not sign a new contract, how would he come on loan?

15 Aug 2012 09:04:39
If you are on this site, you can obviously read the interview by BR with Chris Bascombe in the Daily Telegraph 14th August 8.22pm.

Good read and puts things into real perspective about what FSG have done by getting Rodgers.

Hopefully best appointment since you know who - and hopefully, the brand of football he will play has to be an improvement on what we have had to endure since 1991 ( with only the odd exceptions ), and again, hopefully, that will bring with it silverware.

It's all about hope, and I hope the 3 year contract BR has got turns into a much longer one, because that will mean his ambition for this club has been a success.

Hi eds love the site. I have tried to post afew times but never been posted. Can you tell me why Liverpool arnt going for rvp? He is 10 times better than Dempsey and all the others we've been linked with and for only 20-25 mil. I also think the fans would love this signing and with a couple more players in and around I'm sure we could challenge for the league. Thanks eds {Ed002's Note - There is no interest from either side.}

Are you for real ? - apart from the obvious " I want CL football " answer, he would want probably about £200k a week, love to know where you get 10 times better - Dempsey scored 23 in 46 games for an average Fulham side - not really a bad return I reckon.

John B

You're obviously an idiot
Although smart enough to not leave your name

Chris in Tamworth

There's always one.... Wow!

Steve

You need to wake up kid. All the guy cares about is money and 10x better then Dempsey? Dempsey scored 23 goals and that's not having an arsenal side round him. Complete idiot

Hi EDS would be grateful if you could answer please. Should the Tello deal go through (loan) is it possible Agger could be part of the deal since he has stated he would not wish to play for another team in the EPL.

Many Thanks in advance {Ed002's Note - It would be a separate arrangement.}

15 Aug 2012 07:34:00
Morning Ed's and fellow reds. Just reading a few bits that the Tello deal is dead in the water? Any news or clarification on this matter.....Seems a shame.

People claim that it's off because he has signed an extension/ new contract with Barca. That does not automatically mean the deal is off - more likely the opposite! Barca would never lend him to us with only 12 months left on his contract, which would mean he would be "free" at the end of the loan...

Not saying the deal will happen, but merely saying the new contract does not exclude a loan agreemet!

Erik_Oslo

Eds,
Can u confirm this.

1)Heard that Ian Ayre in Spain to close deal for Tello & Sahin. Is is true?

2)According to Spanish radio, Tello will sign new deal & will not go to Liverpool. But Barca keen to loan him/sell him for 5M. Is that right?

3)Mourinho prefer Sahin to go to Liverpool instead of Arsenal & Liverpool can cover most of his wages than Arsenal. So deal still possible?

4)Heard that Dempsey is waiting for Fulham to accept Liverpool bid since he already set his heart to join us. Currently how much we offer Fulham for him?

5)Skrtel is getting closer to sign new contract? What about Agger? If City bid good money but he reject it, I hope Liverpool will offer him new contract as well.

Thanks Eds & have a gud day.

p/s: What is it again the code to join fantasy epl?

ItsJimmyAgain. {Ed002's Note - (1) That is the intention. (2) Unless he signs a new deal a loan is not going to happen. (3) I don't what Mourinho wants and you are probably wrong about teh wages. (4) I expect a deal for Dempsey can be done. (5) Agger will probably leave.}

Mourinho told that Arsenal, LFC and Spurs are looking at Sahin. But only LFC agreed terms and conditions of RM like buy-out clause something like that.

Ed002 surely the fact that tello is signing an extension increases the chance we will loan him, as no club ever loans a player in the last year of their contract... {Ed002's Note - Right.}

15 Aug 2012 08:56:22
Ed's or any other posters,

Am i right in believing, the deal with Tello is we would have to buy him as he only has 12 months left on his current deal?

Surely if he has signed a new contract, that means the possibility of a loan is now a option?

Also, Sahin would be fantastic signing! A 3 man centre middfield with Gerrard pushed futher forward as a acting number 9. Borini and Suarez can then utilise the wings, could be a option!

eds,
has tello signed a new contract or are they just rumours?

cleo {Ed049's Note - looks like he has signed an extension}

Which would allow a loan deal.

15 Aug 2012 08:33:06
I think it is quite obvious that tello would sign an extension as he only has 1 year on his contract. Meaning if he had a really good season with us he would be available on a free at end of season. That would be really poor for barcelona. Hence he signs an extension then signs for us on a 1 year loan.

Common Sense. Jordan

15 Aug 2012 04:02:55
With regards to Tello supposedly signing a contract extension with Barcelona. Isn't it possible that Barcelona have agreed a contract extension to allow a loan for 12 months with a an option to buy. This would allow the player to go out on loan and Barcelona to recoup a transfer fee rather than have him leave on free. Not saying this is true but could be a possiblilty.

If we get Dempsey,but not Tello which i suspect. Would Ed agree we would still require another forward? And that being case who's names would be under LFC's consideration? Ifs and buts i know, but a view please, thanks {Ed029's Note - There have been rumours of us wanting two forward players for a while now, presumably on the assumption that Carroll will rejoin Newcastle so one would be a replacement. Walcott seems to be the other player that we are looking at, although I think it could be a long shot, but you never know. IMO I would like us to bring in two forward players as I think our lack of goal threat last season cost us and I always believe you need four proven goalscoring forwards in your squad to challenge for the top four}

15 Aug 2012 00:52:30
Hey Eds, I know Tello is likely to come to Liverpool but do you really think he would be a regular on the wing? And do you know of any targets we have that would be likely to play on the wing or are they players from inside Liverpool who will play there? {Ed029's Note - Hello the current targets for the front three roles are well documented, they are Dempsey, Tello and Walcott}

14 Aug 2012 22:26:43
Ed does this mean if we get tello.That the club wil not look to try and get walcott.MATTYLFC {Ed029's Note - Not necessarily, it is all about squad depth. Also if Tello does sign a new contract with Barca and come to us on loan we might only have him for the season}

Bill Shankly talked about creating a big society of your friends and family with one thought and purpose - he did. When you go to Anfield as an lfc supporter for the first time you understand what he meant - you just feel it, the tradition, passion, unity and the power of the place. When i took my son for his first Anfield visit when he was was a young kid i realised just by looking at him he felt what i have just described - proud to be part of a huge lfc family! YNWA

You know that feeling you get when something really special is happening. The excitement, anticipation, the air of electricity. Not just the hairs on the back of your neck but literally your whole body starts to course with emotion. Not sure whether your eyes are welling up or you want to let out a scream of excitement. All this and an overwhelming feeling of pride that you're part of something truly incredible. That's what I feel anyway. I probably don't get to enough games.... lol ;-)

I have been reading numerous posts from very narrow minded supposed fans that are slating FSG with no passion or heart for our great club, unfortunately this is a business and FSG do not have the luxury of running the club on heart strings.

The aim from the start was to build a successful sporting franchise which they have a proven track record (yes I know not in football) but the premiss is the same. For those that say we need to be spending money like the Man City look at the money that FSG have invested in the last 2 years totalling in excess of 150million and this was without qualification for CL which lost us 20 million and then our league position lost us possibly 10 million.

Get off their backs compared to the other yanks they are moving the club in the right direction and I don't want to be another Chelsea or Man city we are Liverpool and I would rather build a solid foundation that is built with youth/talent & a fantastic manager which I think BR will become given time.

Sad to see john w henry crying in the media saying he bought our club coz of financial fair play rules and now he has doubt that won't work as big clubs will find ways to escape eg manchester city signing one of the biggest sponsor worth 50/60 million from their own company etihad. And wants premier league to adopt their own rules given that clubs seem to be ignoring uefa's rules. He even criticised manchester city having losses of £197m for 2010-11 financial year while chelsea's most recent accounts, published on 31 january and before this summer's £60m-plus spending spree, revealed a £67.7m loss. Amid concern FFP will not deter the largese of Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour and thinks premier league should impose their own rules

From the mouth of David Sullivan regarding why Carroll turned down the move-

"But he really wants to stay at Liverpool. He believes that he will get back into the side by his performances - coming off the bench or for the reserves. He believes the manager will have to put him back in the side."

Considering WHU offered him slightly better wages as well, my respect for Carroll has gone through the roof.

Well done big man, I hope BR gives him a chance.

Where lacking on both wings.
Expect Joe Cole to leave
-Clint Dempsey in 105k pw 29 years old.
-

This has been a very expensive summer with very little achieved.

I think Kenny Daligsh had better targets lined up who would of made a real difference. Even Damien Comolli with Kenny would worked out this season.

- So this is the true face of american ownership. These americans don't seem too sharpe when it comes to running lfc like a tight-ship. They seem to be wasting money left, right and centre to bring in average people at inflated prices. No disrespect to any of these guys but they are more squad fillers.

If i was true Shark, i would made Kenny Stay and finish what he started. Instill that pride back into the club and we would of supported him with the cash.
We could of sold Luis Suarez - no one player is bigger than the wage structure and gone out and bought someone else.
-transfer policy, should be young, potential, willing to play for £30k or less.

I have noticed that last season we where a team lacking goals, so its nice to see we have decided to sell two strikers and maxi. They where came up with some of badly needed goals last season.
Craig Bellamy 6 goals
Maxi Rodríguez 4 goals
Dirk Kuyt 2 goal

So Borini has to replace 12 goals and come up with 16 goals. That is 28 goals to make sure we finish 6th again. Good luck Fabio Borini 28 premiership goals. lol

- the season before
Kuyt came up with 13 goals,
Maxi 10 goals,
Meireles 5 goals, {Ed049's Note - This is complete nonsense mate, Don't you think others will chip in with goals as well.}

What a load of Twoddle!!

Worst naive wall of useless text I have ever seen! We finished 8th last season, we spent 55 million on Carrol and Downing...you think that could carry on? Truth is (Although Kenny is a legend on the field) he wasn't a great manager. FSG stopped the rot mate! BR is a quality manager and we will benefit greatly from his fresh approach to football!

And sell Suarez? That statement alone renders you slightly bonkers...Wouldn't swap him for any other striker in the world.

Sorry your transfer policy is deluded who will play for under 30k a week that is quality and will win trophies. in the modern game it is win now at all cost, bearing in mind 2 cup finals was not enough to keep a legend in a job. yes it would be great f players would come because we are the greatest team on earth (possibly the universe) but it will not happen.ray3037

Ever heard the saying " Math can't rewrite the game" .

I bet this is the same person who posted last night with the ridiculously long post wrongly stating how much Borini, Allen and Suarez are going to cost the club.

What you obviously fail to grasp is that just because Bellamy, Maxi and Kyut have left the club, it doesn't mean we have to play with 8-men now!

We can replace those 3-players with another 3-players, so those three replacement players need to make-up for any goals the others would have scored.

You have a very immature view of football.

JRG

WTF is this? I've read some absolute drivel in my time but this takes the p*ss

Dempsey 105k a week! your off your nut mate

Does it really matter what they're on?!

People from America, mainly soccer players, won't want 105k a week. They will be please with 60k really. Dempsey is a perfect example.

One thing that seems to be going unnoticed is that it seems as if none of the players want to leave the club anymore like Torres or Mascherano) If anything the players that want to stay and fight it out are a bit of a problem! If they could offload Carroll and Adam they could use that money to buy some real class players, problem is they won't go. You also have Suarez, Skrtel, possibly Agger signing new long term contracts. LFC also brings in Borini, Adam, and possibly a few others. There's definitely a sense of optimism back at Anfield. The players know it. I'm excited for what BR and the boys will achieve this season.

-Tom

Torres never wanted to leave, torres got fed up with h&g promises.
torres and suarez was KK plan but torres had made up his mind to leave.
h&g are to blame for all this

Torres spent 18 months sulking round the pitch. he wanted to leave

I would love to see Sahin,Tello and Dempsey sign, personally think they could all make a big impact and help get us back into the champions league where we belong! Ed's do you think they will all happen?

Cheers

JonesyLFC {Ed049's Note - There is a very good chance all of them will happen.}

14 Aug 2012 22:22:20
Ed's a couple of questions; I've looked at plenty of our fans predicted line ups, for the beginning of the season and more than most have Suarez as the center forward with Borini as the inside forward, wouldn't it make more sense to have them the other way around considering their respective skill sets? and is it true that Walcott has signed a contract extension with Arsenal? and finally, who is likely to come in if we can't get Dempsey? {Ed049's Note - BR stated that he would be playing Suarez centrally and Borini out-left, I don't know whether Walcott has signed an extension or not,I guess we'll sign Dempsey.}

Under the style that Brendan coaches, where on the pitch the front three and the attacking midfielder play start the game is niot that important as they are expecting to rotate between themselves and move positions in order to confuse defenders and create hesitation as tio whether to hold their ground or follow their man.

I may be wrong and I don't want to add fuel to the fire but I have been told Liverpool rejected a £23 million bid plus Adabayor on loan for Daniel Agger. Is there any substance to this? Or is my source more like BBQ/Tomato/HP? Thanks Wombat

Sahin - just loan
Tello - loan, he is reluctant to move abroad permanently so will probably sign some kind of contract with Barca.
Dempsey - £3m Plus Adam

and if we can sell Carroll (£18m) then we will pursue someone like Matias Suarez for around £11m - £14m although it might be tough to get him (work permit and all that)

Perhaps Mirallas for £8.5m could have got him for £6.5m but the buyout clause deadline passed 1st august.

and if we can get Tello then Walcott interest will dropped.

CM; Sahin, 23
CM; Allen, 22
MD/FW; Dempsey, 29
WF; Tello, 21
ST/WF; Borini, 21
ST/WF; Mirallas, 24

Carroll
Kuyt
Adam
Bellamy
Maxi
Aquilani
Doni

JUST TO CLARIFY A SITUATION

Guys you need not be worried about the fact Tello has signed a new deal with Barcelona this is a good thing because it means we are a step closer to the deal we want. Barcelona will not consider a loan for a player who will be out of contract next year, if the deal is a loan then of course he will need to sign a new contract first. Now that he has done that i would expect it to be wrapped up by the end of the week.

Thanks,

Maisey

In my opinion player wages should only be allowed to account for 40% of a clubs earnings. There should also be a salary cap at 50k a week. That would even the playing field plus you would see more money for transfers which would also make the whole thing more exciting.

It will ruin football, just like rugby ( and cricket ) most of the good players will just go and play abroad for more money.

sad but true

I think salary and transfer cap, which would leave managerial accumen as the strengths of teams rather than the depths of their pockets, many teams could afford the top players

Where would the other 60% go? Most likely a big profit to a small number of people. Yes, some players (and certainly not all) get paid ridiculous amounts of money, but I would rather see the players get to see most of the vast amounts of money that football clubs generate, rather than some faceless board member. That's why clubs simply have to live within their means, which is what FSG are trying to balance up. The richer clubs will pay bigger wages to the better players, as a general rule. Clubs which try to do the same without heavy financial backing will go bust unless they are very very lucky.

Nick

Thats funny name a world class player or even a great player that is willing to earn 50k a week when they know they can get a lot more somewere else. salary caps are meaningless cause then clubs will just begin to give players percentages of their shirt sales as a go around.]keep dreaming though.

Most agree that Alonso has never been replaced. I think that he will eventually be relaced by Suso. Obviously, he's not ready yet so Sahin will fill the void temporarily. I think Suso will be 20 in November 2013. Same with Tello he will fill the void until Sterling makes it his own.

We no longer play the same way as we did when alonso played for us, so the role he played requires slightly different quality's, this means he doesn't need replaced- would still love him here though.
derryred

No guarantees youngsters will progress to required level

Lfc will try and sign sahin and tello though.

Suso - inside forward. Alonso - deep lying CM... Completely different players mate.

What have twitter & Liverpool-rumours done to me?
I've never seen Sahin play & seen about 10 mins of Tello yet here I am desperately hoping they will sign for LFC. Can't wait for the transfer window to close, it's driving me crazy!

Sahin looks a top drawer player. He reminds me alot of Xabi Alonso.
If the loan happens, I predict that he'll have a successful season with Liverpool and the fans will be sorry to see him go back to Madrid.
However, the disappointment won't last long as 'Sahin' will be ready to fill the boots of 'Alonso' at Madrid allowing 'Alonso' to return to Liverpool to finish his career!
What I'm trying to say is that 'Xabi Alonso' will return to play for Liverpool next summer.

But...if sahin is this damn good...that he will eventually replace PASSMASTER ALONSO...then y the f real would sell him? coz there is also talk about a permenant deal.

I wish people would move on from this already. Xabi Alonso will never again be a Liverpool player. Get over it already, it wont happen, EVER!

Tello not happening? Can Ian Ayre pick up Affelay while he's over there.

If Agger was to go and we get lets say 25 million I think a good signing would be his Danish team mate I believe his name is KJAER? what do we think lads?

No way - I don't understand how anyone rates that guy.

LIVERPRES

Kjaer is rubbish. Agger carries him in the Denmark national team. Simply isnt good enough!

BrisbaneLFC

Agree with LIVERPRES - Kjaer is seriously over rated. People bang on about how good he looks with Agger but the truth be told most defenders look good with Agger - Agger is top class, thats why. Liverpool should avoid Kjaer.

Tello move to Liverpool will not be happening. Talks with the player and Barcelona have been completed and player is set to extend his contract. Confirmed by Catalan radio ONA FM

MoMo

Then he could be loaned, could he not? Not saying it's going to happen, but a loan seems much more likely if he signed an extension then if he hadn't.

He has extended his contract which will now enable him to move on loan. All the posters saying he is in the last year of his contract so couldnt go on loan, heres your answer.

Liverpool is interested to take him on loan hence is still contractually still a barcelona player.

To my understanding he's coming on a loan so him signing a new contract makes no difference

So would the fact talks went well n he extended his contract which would then allow for a loan deal to take place? Plausible if not realistic
ScouserJohnny

Extending his contract means nothing at all. I assume this means that although he may be a required player at Barcelona in the future, my understanding is that Barcelona's coach has told him he is not going to be part of his plans for the coming season. Barcelona B beckons for Tello, or a loan to Liverpool for a season.

BrisbaneLFC

Tello signing contract extension makes a loan move MORE likely, not less.

How will Sahin and Tello affect our first 11?
Do we expect any of them to start or will they be squad players who will play from the bench and some Europe/cup games too?

Also.........Does their prospective signings declare our intention to move on a couple of players, possibly Spearing for one?

Thanks in advance.

Your welcome.

meant to ask ed , do u think that clubs have lessened their interest in christian ericksen, due to his poor euros showing?
5gold stars {Ed001's Note - most clubs have been scouting him for years, one bad tournie doesn't tend to make any difference to be honest.}

Eds. Hi eds just back from Belfast watching a Liverpool xi vs crusaders and believe me suso, Morgan, and ecclestone have a real understanding with each and should definitely get a chance in the cups. Do you think this is possible or will the he held back another year or two. {Ed005's Note - I seen the match myself - the stand out players were Wisdom and Suso for me. Morgan looked decent, good movement, isolated by the midfield. I think Suso will get more chances than anyone next year.}

Was at the match aswell suso was brilliant wisdom is going to be a brilliant centre back overall all of the youth players are brilliant!

Ed005...I hope you're right coz I wouldn't want Suso's head turned by rival clubs due to a lack of opportunities

Agree with Ed005. I was at the match too and the outstanding players were Suso and Wisdom. I am sure both players will get a chance at some stage this season. Suso scored another great free kick, keeper never moved.

Carryduff Red
JFT96 YNWA

Suso is the only one that is ready.

I was at the match to and I have to say wisdom is an absolute animal! Suso did have a good game and it was an excellent freekick that he scored. Did anyone else think that Krisztian Adorjan had a really good game too?

N.I. RED

Every time they got the ball in the middle they tried to get it out to suso himself and morgan link up well i agree his freekick was class the keeper looked like he was glued to the pitch!

If we can get Sahin, Tello and Dempsey this team could be very good. For the first time in a long time we'd have strong depth. For years it's seemed like our first 11 was fairly strong but if we missed a key played we were in big trouble. If we can finish off those signings that shouldn't be the case, with the possible exception of Suarez. Just look at the depth we'd have in midfield and up front:

Forwards: Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini, Clint Dempsey, Christian Tello, Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing.

Midfield: Steven Gerrard, Nuri Sahin, Joe Allen, Lucas, Jonjo Shelvey, Jordan Henderson

Thats 2 deep at each of the 6 spots. Plus alot of the players are versatile. Suarez, Borini, Dempsey, Tello can all play anywhere along the front 3. Gerrard is capable of playing up front in a from 3 as well. We can be missing 2 or 3 starters in these positions without huge drops in quality.

14 Aug 2012 21:59:00
Really hope Tello and Sahin sign , what a midfield- Sahin, Allen, Leiva! With Gerrard as a super sub. Tello , Suarez and Borini up front would be nice as well.

Tello-Suarez-Gerrard

Tello-Suarez-Borini

Borini-Suarez-Gerrard

Borini-Suarez-Dempsey

Dempsey-Suarez-Gerrard

Tello-Suarez-Dempsey

So many great options making sure we will score a lot of goals this season.

BthekingB

Gerrard and sub don't go in the same sentence mate with these exceptions:
"Gerrard is not a sub"
"Gerrard is tired/ recovering from an injury so will be a sub today"
that is all.
derryred

Gerrard as a sub . clueless

cozinoz

Gerrard as a sub are you real??

We could also have Walcott and Dempsey too.

Here we go again eds another greedy player and his agent chasing the money rather than honour and glory and im refering to ramirez.i posted a while back about greedy gylfy chasing the queens head,i mean correct me if i wrong but whats more important these days showing the grand children your trophy room when your retired or a framed pay slip of how much you earned in the day.here we have liverpool fc "one of the most decorated clubs on the planet in football ever"offering them a piece of history to play in a liverpool shirt and these clowns want more money "am i missing something here eds" an angry harry thanks eds {Ed001's Note - unfortunately most players would rather come 4th and play in the Champions League than actually win trophies.}

I think most owners would fit into that category as well, to be honest. CL is worth an obscene amount of money compared to the League or FA Cup.
