Hi ed's, have you seen the picture of Jose Enriques Twitter on Pepe Reina? Could you confirm if that is Asiadi in the Background? Is he available for tomorrow or is he just with the squad?

Cheers

Samed Yesil made his Liverpool debut as Rodolfo Borrell's U21s thrashed Chelsea 4-1 at Griffin Park on Friday night.

Well the U21's understand tika-taka that's for sure. They were very very good and at times the one-touch short quick passing was incredible.

Thats nothing to do with rodgers ,it borrelli (spelling) who has them playing that way.

14 Sep 2012 22:01:33
i like rodgers but desperatly want rafa back he was a legend whyd we ever get rid!!

Rafa lost the plot. It started when we were top of the league in January and he had a rant at Fergie. Ultimately Rafa always alienates people who are his best allies.

Do you really know what 'Legend' means?
Look it up in the dictionary.

It's an interesting discussion but nothing more. It's time to move on mate. If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.

I want Kenny back as he much better than Rafa or Ginger rodgers

No, bring back Houllier, he was the real legend.

Well Played Michael Ngoo on both fronts...

Can you believe that yellow card for his celebration? Surely after the news this week the club can appeal that.

ChrisE

Can't appeal yellows.

As laudable as his vest display was, the rules are the rules. He accepted that - he knew he would be booked before he even left the dressing room. RED LENIN

Whole team had a good game, for me would be hard to name the MOTM because there is so many to pick but if i had to i'd say Adorjan.

His game is so different it would be hard to liken him with an existing player. maybe kaka, ganso but without the high speed skills (although he does have bags of tricks in his invisible pocket)

He reminds a little bit of Vladimir Smicer. Tidy little player.

14 Sep 2012 21:04:56
Great game from the boys in red vs Chelsea [U21's]. Adorjan, for me, was the stand out performer. He hasn't been this confident for a while and he has really grown into his role as the playmaker. He has wonderful technique and he rounded his performance off with a great finish. Michael Ngoo, when he came on, changed the game and that is a real factor in getting into the first team. If he continues to play like he does then he'll get in there in no time. Also, it was a great gesture at the end lifting his t-shirt up to reveal a Justice for the 96 vest.

For Chelsea, I think their stand out performer was Nathan Ake who played very well at Centre back and blocked some very important goal-bounded shots. He also cleared one off the line. Unfortunately he got shifted to left-back where he seemed left comfortable and gave away a penalty and a couple of fouls.

Overall, Liverpool I believe dominated the game. The first 10 minutes of the second half, however, was all Chelsea and they could have punished us and gone ahead if it wasn't for poor finishing. It was a well deserved 4-1 victory though and it's great to see them putting in a great performance.

BthekingB

It wasn't Ake that gave the penalty away mate!

Just as i posted about Ngoo he scores a stunner, he must have heard me lol
Sorry lad! Nice touch with the vest too

14 Sep 2012 20:53:04
Got to say every time i watch Ngoo he seems very clumsy with the ball at his feet, gets tangled up a lot. I dont watch every reserve game but people rave about him, im not so sure myself

Michael ngoo getting better all the time and well done to him for the justice 4 the 96 t shirt. red mick tag

For anyone who didn't hear Suso will be in tomorrows squad for sunderland
Havent really seen much of him myself, Does he have goals in him? I thought he was a midfielder soo surely we dont need him in squad yet?

Just to give you the low down on suso did you like alonso ,he can be that good

Go on youtube and you will have a little insight as to what he is about.

Suso has more compilations than Theo Walcott..... (no joke)

i never thought i'd agree with old purple nose but he's right its time for the sick chants to stop lets beat them on the pitch next game and out support those mancs the way we allways do. {Ed022's Note - To be perfectly blunt, when do we ever really hear Mancs and Scousers shouting stuff regarding Hillborough and Munich to each other? Very rarely. There is a mutual respect between us clubs and to be honest, I take issue with these London clubs such as Chelsea who deem it as 'banter' to shout about both. Liverpool and Utd will always be a powerful rivalry, however there will always be a mutual respect. Chelsea don't even respect themselves lets be honest, and a chunk of their fans are just vile creatures.}

Who cares what whiskey nose has to say. He trots out platitudes and downright drivel whenever he thinks it will give his crew the slightest edge in a match. It was his interference that generated the whole Saurez/Evra issue last season. When are people going to stop giving him a platform to propagate his drivel.
ND

Have to agree with the ed on this one, i deleted 2 friends from my fb because of there comments regarding hillsborough and guess what they were chavski fans, they are disgusting people, i hate chelsea with a passion!

Fergie's FA could be in a lot of trouble now. They've been conspiring with him since 1989, and as will be proved they are liars & conspirers

Ed,022 can you make a profile of Ter stegan and Kapino the Greek GK ?
Looks like two of the greatest GK prospects in world football .. {Ed022's Note - Ter Stegen is one I've been meaning to do for a while, and I've never heard of the other one. I'll see what I can arrange.}

I think that fans who aim tasteless and offensive bans should be handled in the same way which racially motivated chants are. People who chant about Hillsborough, Munich or other tragic sporting events should be handed lifetime bans as they bring shame to the clubs that they follow. Even Alex Ferguson has came out declaring that it should stop and he said that to the United fans. People who make aeroplane gestures or sing songs in reference to 1958 should be banned from attending Anfield as should people who make references to 1989 from their respective grounds. It is time that clubs took action now as in the future the next generation of fans will think that it is acceptable behaviour. It is now time that us as fans also stopped turning a blind eye and started to rebuild our public image.
#19 JFT96 at last

I love the chanting that has lots of humour in it. Off the cuff singing to away fans used to be funny. Let's go back to that and sing to support our team instead of nasty remarks (e.g. to Suarez?or Terry) Move on.

The persons who chant about the Munich air disaster would do well to note that Sir Matt Busby, who almost lost his life in the crash, was one of our own, having played for Liverpool. He was also very close to both Paisley and Shankly.

Of course, no decent person should require a reason not to hurl such vile comments at others but for those LFC 'supporters' that do, maybe this should be food for thought.

Ginger Rodgers

Forgot to add that following the crash, Liverpool offered to loan players to United and, I believe, pay their wages in order to help them complete their remaining fixtures.

I wonder whether United and Liverpool fans would treat each other differently if they were more aware of our shared histories.

Chelsea u21 vs liverpool u21 tonight if suso, morgan or yesil are playing tonight count them out for tomorrow.

Yesil is playing. Him, Pacheco, Coady, Gulacsi and Sama are having a really good game. That Marin is playing well for the blues. {Ed022's Note - That's because Marin is a fantastic player.}

Suso is with the first team squad

Personally I think Pacheco and Adorjan both played better than Marko Marin.

Yesil had a really good game. but AKE (Chelsea CB/LB) what a player, he will be a top defender.

Sir Alex Ferguson. We are two great clubs, ourselves and Liverpool, We should understand each other's problems. Maybe a line will be drawn in the sand in terms of their behaviour towards each other.
I agree with Sir Alex. no matter how much money been use by Chelsea and Man City still Liverpool Vs Man Utd is one of the biggest match in The world. Biggest then Real vs Berca. in order to keep this match going we must respect each other.

I've no words to describe the events of this week. Sadness, anger and pride, Ian Ayre captured it best.
The families' dignity through all this agony has been remarkable.
We would now hope that every one of the guilty are made to account.

If I may also thank the other clubs' fans for their kind words of support. Much appreciated. The dignity, maturity and sense of perspective you've shown has been nothing short of remarkable.
Respect to all o' ye.
What fantastic credit you are to your clubs.

We all love our clubs and football so much that we sometimes lose all perspective about ourselves and the truly important things in life.
We are first and foremost humans, then football/club fans. This week was a clear reminder of that.

Sure, we despise one another, indeed some may say hate lol. Being able to rise above that this week, above club-partisanship boundaries was most moving.
Good on ye all.

Proper football returns tomorrow.
We away to SAFC.
Imo, this could easily go either way, really. Our results against this lot have been somewhat of a mix bag and far from certain.
We've won only one of our past three encounters there, losing the other two via some freakish, indeed comical, goals.
Worringly also, we haven't beaten them at Anfield in two years, the last of our victories coming in Rafa's final season.

So clearly they are more than a formidable opposition for us. Martin O'Neill has been terrific for them, and with the astute signings they have made, they will be backing themselves to go all out tomorrow.

For us, I expect we'll play some good stuff, albeit in patches, and create enough to probably win the game, but probably not win the game, as we always do.
Problem's that 1) the player who gets the most scoring chances in our team (Suarez) 9/10 times squanders them and 2) the overall XI generally lacks goals in them, save for one or two Skerty belters on occasion.

There's also the small Pepe and defence. The latter seems all at sea right now. Behind them is an even bigger alarm- Pepe Reina, who's affection for flapping and bumbling continues to intensify unabated. He's an accident happening.

Plastic shields, blunt spears. We presently failing at both ends of the pitch: we can't score goals and virtually can't defend against them.
That's anything but a recipe for winning.

That said, tho, I expect we'll gradually improve at the back. Pepe will have to sort out his crap, SOON. Enrique, I'm less than enamoured with his forward play. He needs to be more of a beast going forward. His contribution is substantially limited here. And considering he isn't the most reliable defender either, the idea of integrating Downing there should be seriously looked at.

I feel Fabi could come to the party if, as many have pointed, played thru the middle.
Stick Suarez a little out wide. He should do some damaging.
Still tho, he-- like Reina-- has to get his act together, very SOON.
The number of chances he misses is unacceptable for a footballer of his calibre.
He's easily a 30+ goal a season striker.

If he had netted half, just half, of the numerous chances he got last season, we could have finished I think 4th, at the very least.
I hope BR helps hon his technique. Moreover, Suarez has to calm down, compose himself, relax and just stick it in the net.
Do that and we have a player on our hands.

For the game tomorrow, as I said, it could easily go either way. It won't be a draw, that's for sure.
Whoever wins it won't do so by more than a 2-goal margin.
Good luck to the boys.
Would be terrific to get off the mark at a very good team like SAFC, and especially in the context of this week's events, leading up to what is sure to be a searching examination against Utd next week.

Maximum points against in those two games would do our confidence lots of good. 7 points in the first five games, having had City, Arsenal and Utd--- top 3 last season-- and Sunderland and West Brom away-- typically tough games for anyone-- will scarcely be an unacceptable return.

We'll then have relatively not-so-difficult fixtures where we could put together a good run and be within touching distance of the top 4 places New Year.

I genuinely believe we'll have a fulfilling season, fellas. We've played some pretty eye-catching stuff, despite the many changes we've had to make. Consider that 1)Sahin is still to come in, 2)Allen hasn't even gotten outta gear one, 3) Suarez has yet to get going, and 4) Shelvey and Sterling are blossoming into fine players who could make a genuine impact, as they've demonstrated in their performances thus.

WHEN, not if, we get going, honestly we'll dish out some serious punishment. Just give it time.
BR will suprise many this season... mark my words.

BARNEY
PS: eds, any Assaidi update? I know his fitness is presently far from 100%, but could he have just enough in his tank to make the bench tomorrow? {Ed002's Note - He has a groin problem, so I don't think so.}

So thoughts for the season ahead. Where would you like to finish, where you honestly think we will finish and where would you be happy for us finishing after all what has gone on! Come on reply will be interesting everyones views:

Me: Top 4, 8th-9th and as long as we dont get relegated!

I want us to finish top.
I think that we will definitely get top 6 despite our start and i would be happy if we improve our points tally maybe to the high 60's. I know it isn't ambitious but our blind ambition has caused to to have 4 managers in 4 seasons.
derryred

4th and 4th.

14 Sep 2012 14:47:24
I think we are not Ready for 4-3-3 yet. and Tiki Taka not work well with us with that style too. mostly we keep passing the ball in our half, whenever we lost ball opposition attack us fast and that cost us the match. I personally like 3-5-2 strong midfield can keep the ball in midfield. that may make tiki taka better.

hhh

We can't get to were there manager wants us playing different formations on a regular basis. I think that B.R has his stall set out and rightly so ain't willing to bend. Time will tell but with having some exceptional youngsters coming through i'm very excited to be a Liverpool fan set this moment in time.
JohnyBoy

Disagree. you will know all about how vulnerable we are if we play 3 at the back. The fullbacks can't overlap to make the pitch wider. The midfield will just be conjested and a front 2 doesn't have that free flowing movement of a front 3. However it can result in borini playing more central. At the end of the day all the formations have pros and cons however brendan is the manager and is much more qualified to pick the formation than us.
derryred

Hi all, i think as painful as it could be, we need to stick with what the Don is trying.
433
we need too, the team need to get use to this in competitive matches not just the training ground, and as much as we might not like it, the team need to learn and learn fast!
as the Don said after WBA we should get used to a bit of this...
But when it clicks it will be great

Hi ed for some reason my post didn't show yesterday that person bettison is now apologising it's not good enough he's a 1st class person.

'First class person' - are you smoking something? First class apse more like. Fired and stripped of his Knighthood and then we'll see who's a 'first class person'.
ND

I think maybe 'person' may have substituted a rather less savoury word. {Ed002's Note - Right.}

14 Sep 2012 13:51:56
Eds. What constitutes as 'tapping up'?
for example if rodgers were to speak directly to say theo walcott and say 'would u bd interested if we made a move or would i be wasting my time'
Classed as a tap up or merely testing the water? {Ed002's Note - Tapping up. He cannot legally speak with the player.}

But this does happen and in the main is ignored by clubs I believe

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Clubs will talk to agents and representatives. It obviously happens but it scertainly would not be ignored Chris. Chelsea were caught talking to Ashley Cole when hge was at Arsenal and it cost them £50k or so.}

Of course you are right Ed002 (hope your well by the way) I know it isn't ignored when clubs actually approach players but I'm lead to believe that managers and players quite often just ask the "would you be interested" question almost in passing which is often ignored or maybe it's just that the clubs never find out.

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - The question would generally be asked of the agent. Typically most players are dumber than a box of rocks and would find such a question too complex to answer.}

Just do what Barca do and get one of the players to ask them to come to us in the media {Ed002's Note -

Hi Ed(s), just wanted to share my thoughts with you. In order to avoid the disaster of signing no-one on deadline day from now on, BR and the management team should draft a list of say 8-15 players of who they want, then Liverpool should hire Harry Redknapp for the day and give him this list. He'l give it his all, and then everyones a winner. 'Arry gets a cheeky cheque, and we sign players, happy days!

Manali cream {Ed001's Note - I really hope you were joking!}

No im not joking

Manali cream never jokes

Only if he drives around in his robin reliant

'arry would take one look at the list, decide he knows better and sign some cheeky bargains that play well for two games and then are rubbishe.

- Something Red -

Manali cream,
I suggest you lay off the manali cream for a while.

Hi Eds and all. About the match against Sunderland, I feel a lot of the negativity after the Arsenal defeat should be consigned to the past. Liverpool as a city, a club and a fantastic set of supporters had a real boost this week with the IHP findings. I think that can help spur on the boys tomorrow. Sunderland away is always a tricky tie but I was impressed by Stevie G's performance mid-week and I think we will certainly compete in this match far better than against Arsenal. Also Allen only played one and a half matches and Jonjo looks in good form. Not sure what the position is regarding Suarez and his fitness/availability but can see him getting a goal and setting up a few chances if he plays. Don't get me wrong, it will be tough but I don't see us just turning up to get a spanking a running back to Liverpool with tails between legs. I have a sneaky suspicion that we will put on a rugged show with a couple of flair moments and come home with a good 2-0 win :o)

Justice for the 96. YNWA

Don't know what all you Liverpool fans think of this idea ? I am a Nottingham Forest fan and a few of us have been talking about some way a charity match could be arranged in memory of the 96. If you have any ideas please feel free to comment. thankyou and much love to you all.

Great idea mate. It would mean so much to show how united we all could be with this charity match. Much love to all the forest fans aswell.

Good idea the money should go to the relatives

Would be nice if the two squads of that day could get together and play!

For me it's a good idea .

Ver good idea ! Let's do it !

Thats a crackin idea, get as many as the team that day to play.
brilliant.

Great idea . The orignial forest supporter should have put his tag on his posting .
Would it be too traumatic for the families of the fans to have the game played at hillsborough?

I personally think that Rodgers has concentrated some much on passing and attacking that he made defensive training and tactics less important in pre season and thats why we have made some mistakes. Maybe a bit too much ball work.

Just a thought. If we werent so poor at the back in the Arsenal, WBA and City game we would be looking at least 5 points from a tough few games.

Really feel the lads will get it right soon.

Jordan

I want to give Rodgers a chance and feel the time to judge him is at the end of the season.

However he has shown his inexperience already on a number of occasions and 180 page dossiers can't cover for that.

1. Big mistake to write off Carroll before he'd even had the chance to train with him. He should have been open to integrating him in to his style of play. I feel we will regret what Rodgers did for many years to come when Carroll is awesome for somebody else.
2. Playing Suarez and Gerrard against Hearts 3 days before playing Arsenal. An experienced Manager would never have done that.
3. Trying to farm out players at the last minute eg Henderson, cannot be great for their confidence if they stay.
4. Pressing high up the pitch is ok but has a basic flaw. If you don't actually win the ball, the opposition can break, with virtually your entire midfield out of the game, and run at an exposed back 4. Without Lucas as insurance, this was there for all to see against Arsenal.

So, he's got a lot to learn and only time will tell if he can do it.

Stop. Just stop. It's getting silly now and you're embarrassing yourself. We're not selling out 1st choice 'keeper mid season. This is not FIFA 13. And the only place where it is 'said' that Rodgers is unhappy with Reina is on message boards along with the other utter made up crap.

A lot of people saying Liverpool are in trouble if we dont win tomorrow, and im thinking, not really. Obviously id like a win tomorrow. Look back at our games so far, we should have beaten West Brom but a draw wouldnt have been too bad, but most would have expected us to be outclassed by City and Arsenal is an either way sort if game. I think if wed drawn at Brom and lost the other two people would not be so worried.
Sunderland are an alright team, not massive in terms of goals though, especially with a new front line. So I wouldnt expect them to score. Il go with an edgy 1-0.

Anfield Andy

Be a draw or one goal either way I think. RED LENIN

Easy 3-0 win trust me

I believe 3 - 1 us i think after this week the players will up there game, i also believe Stevie will have the best game for a while

I think Fletcher and Johnson are going to feel like they have something to prove. A 1-1 draw is what I'm thinking though a win would sure be nice.

It would be a major surprise if there was a Liverpool victory to-morrow , based on current form and , of course , if Reina plays , we will lose heavily , I predict a repeat of the WBA score if Reina plays .

I will be at the match and screaming for an LFC victory ,
I once saw us win 3-0 on their patch , Rushie scored from the kick-off , 1985 I think it was .

You asked for an opinion and there it is , the '' blind faith '' brigade can now savage me , I enjoy a good savage !

You want lfc to win but you feel we will lose, that's fair enough, cant have a go at you for that. If we don't win mind we will be in a spot of bother for sure.

Im going to go with a 0-0 draw, and us hitting the woodwork at least twice

Heads up guys, 3-0 liverpool suarez 2 borini 1

BADGER

Nah i reckon Liverpool to win 2-2 :)

You enjoy a good savage hmm..... Fair enough but robbie savage is just not my type..!

We will loose 2-0..easily

If the defence do their job then why will we loose if reina plays. get behind the team you shmuck.

I predict a 1-3. Suarez scores for us

In answer to the ''shmuck '' poster , it has not been the defence throwing the ball in to the net , perhaps you haven't seen any of the games .

Surely we are allowed to expect our keeper to make the odd save now and then .

I would play Ray Clemence ahead of Reina at present , even with a snapped Achillies !

Blind faith brigade? Nay, sir, we are the blind faith army! ;)

'throwing the ball in the net'.

Madness. You need to up your meds and go back to bed.

The truth is finally out over Hillsborough. I cannot see anyone actually being to justify how on earth it has taken 23 years to get to this stage. There will be many more reports and painful days to come- but the day I am waiting for is the one when our Parliament and any other involved public authority, is able to explain to us all why they have just sat back and allowed corrupt public records to stand. I think I will be waiting for a long time

Disgraceful! The FA's and the Football leagues attitude towards Liverpool in the aftermath of Hillsborough was disgraceful, making us play so many matches so close together which eventually led to us losing the title to Arsenal; we the fans knew the truth but the conspirators wanted to smear the innocents who lost their lives; 23 years for the truth to come out!in the meanwhile the FA sat back and watched the money rolling in after they blackmailed all the first division teams to come into the premier league! they knew what they did but all the extra revenue coming in made it alright! for 23 years they have known that cr4ppy ground had no safety certificate and the same thing almost happened the year before and in 1981; but as long as the Sky money was coming in they are ok; they waited 23 years to apologise even though they were to blame, and even then half heartedly; for shame you are a national disgrace; spending all that money on lawyers in the aftermath of the tragedy to cover your behinds, not giving a cr4p about the 96, you proved that you are nothing but animals. Those responsible for the deaths of the 96 innocents deserve to be punished! shame on you FA, Shame on you south yorkshire police, shame on you the sc*m newspaper, shame on the lot of you. Will we have to wait another 23 years for true justice to be meted out to these animals? I hope not! YNWA Hearts and prayers to the deceased and my thoughts with the campaigners and loved ones. JFT 96

I couldn't agree more.....

Phooey...

Boston Red Sox: Like It or Not, Timing Is Perfect for John Henry to Sell Team

The Boston Red Sox went into fire-sale mode a few weeks ago, sending Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Punto and about $250 million in salaries to the newly rich Los Angeles Dodgers.

The craziness may not be over yet. Fire-sale mode is one thing; full-on sell mode is another thing entirely, and it could be next.

Red Sox principal owner John Henry and the team's ownership group are "mulling" whether to sell the team (via Charlie Gasparino, FoxBusiness.com). In fact, they've already begun "quietly shopping the team to potential buyers."

Your response to these rumors, Mr. Henry?

"A sale of any kind is so far from our thinking it hasn't even come up apart from technical planning issues involving death or disability. This report is completely without foundation," said Henry on Thursday, via Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe.

Henry went on to insist that the Red Sox "are not for sale and will not be for the foreseeable future."

So for what it's worth, the horse's mouth would prefer that you forget ever hearing that the Red Sox might be for sale. Henry is trying to Jedi-mind-trick Red Sox Nation into moving along.

I'll grant that his denial of the report shouldn't be written off completely. It is his team, after all. He would know whether or not it's up for sale.

But let's not kid ourselves. If Boston's brass is indeed shopping the team around to interested parties at this juncture, nobody is about to come out and spill the beans about what's going on behind the scenes. Especially not if they're just doing their due diligence, as any good ownership group should do every now and again.
And let's face it. Now is the perfect time for Henry and his underlings to see what kind of absurd dollar amount they could get for the Red Sox. If they were to see a dollar amount out there to their liking, now would actually be the perfect time for them to go ahead and sell the team.

Henry and the rest of the team's brass-namely team president and CEO Larry Lucchino and chairman Tom Werner-are well aware of what happened in Los Angeles earlier this year. The Dodgers, one of baseball's most storied franchises, sold for a record $2.15 billion. Previous owner Frank McCourt bought the franchise for a mere $430 million in 2004. His investment paid off in the form of a $1.72 billion profit.

A similar profit won't be in the cards if Henry chooses to sell the Red Sox, but we are indeed talking about a not insignificant return on his original investment.

According to Cot's Baseball Contracts, Henry paid $700 million for both the Red Sox and for control of NESN in 2001. Forbes recently set the value of the Red Sox at $1 billion, but Gasparino's report says that the club could sell for as much as $1.3 billion.

If NESN, of which 80 percent is owned by the Henry/Werner-founded Fenway Sports Group, were to be included in a full auction of the Red Sox, the price could be bumped up as high as $1.6 billion. Henry could thus sell the Red Sox and control of NESN for nearly a billion more dollars than he paid for them.

But money isn't the only reason that the time is right for the Red Sox to be sold. The state of the team itself has a major part to play in all of this chatter.

Manager Bobby Valentine will probably be the next casualty of Boston's brutal season.
At 64-79 and on their way to a last-place finish in the AL East, the Red Sox are a mess. They certainly did themselves a big favor when they jettisoned Beckett, Crawford and Gonzalez, but in doing so they signed up for a rebuilding phase that could take years to produce results. For the first time in the John Henry era, the Red Sox are facing a long road back to the top.
Rebuilding the Red Sox into contenders won't necessarily be a question of money so much as it will be a question of patience and-above all-passion.

Henry may not have much of either when it comes to the Red Sox these days, as he also has a pretty major soccer team to run across the pond. Liverpool FC needs the attention of Henry and his mates as well. Probably more than the Red Sox need their attention, for that matter.

Gasparino's report says that Henry and the rest of FSG are indeed inclined to give Liverpool a little extra attention at the moment.

"In fact, people close to executives inside Fenway say management has been increasingly focused not on the Red Sox, but on the future of the Liverpool team," wrote Gasparino.

If you're a Red Sox fan, you're probably reading that and saying, "Gee, ya think?!"

The notion that Henry cares more about Liverpool than he does about the Red Sox has been floating around pretty much ever since FSG bought Liverpool back in 2010, and it's a notion that makes perfect sense. Liverpool is Henry's new toy. The Red Sox are his old toy.

Complicating matters is the fact that Henry still has a lot to prove when it comes to his ownership of Liverpool. He has absolutely nothing to prove when it comes to his ownership of the Red Sox. This ownership group snapped the Curse of the Bambino in 2004 and delivered another championship just three years later in 2007. It was just five years ago that they were the best owners in American sports (at least as far as people in Boston were concerned).

The Red Sox's championship years feel like ancient history now, and they have a lot of work to do to get back to being a championship-caliber club.

Would you sell the Red Sox right now if you owned them?

As Gasparino noted, the opportunity to mold the Red Sox into a championship club basically from scratch is just another thing that makes them such an attractive purchase. If someone were to buy the Red Sox in the near future, he/she would be able to rebuild the Red Sox in his/her own way.
Had somebody come along and bought the Red Sox in 2007, there would have been no messing with them. That would have made them a safe investment, to be sure, but "safe" in this case would be the equivalent of "boring."

And make no mistake. If there are enough super-rich people out there who are intrigued by the idea of making the Red Sox great again, the purchase price for the complete package could exceed the $1.6 billion mark.

The Henry-Lucchino-Werner trio has been good to the Red Sox. The Red Sox were a sad sack of a franchise when they took over, and they quickly turned it into a world-class organization that won two championships.

The party, however, is over. The Red Sox are in ruins, and at the end of the day we're talking about businessmen who always need to be considering what's best for business.

And right now, selling the Red Sox would be very good for business.

I would not have a clue as to the quality of the infomation and allowing for the fact that it is an opinion piece, an interesting read. If it turns out to be true, then well and good for us I guess.

the only thing that has wound me up with the enquiry is the fact that people are talking about 41 lives could have been saved. that is rubbish 96 lives should have been saved.

Agree but would go further. Using the word saved implies that action needed to be taken to remove them from harm. They should never have been there in the first place. FA and Sheff Weds have big questions to answer too. To steal a phrase from the TV, "The truth is out there"............at last - well mostly. I still think more will come out over the next few months as people keep on digging. Heard Trevor Hicks on radio yesterday and he was wondering whether he had done enough and whether it was good enough. You have done everyone proud and done our society a huge favour by fronting up a bunch of people who couldn't and wouldn't let go of their loved ones. You are an example to us all.

The truth is finally out and I hope the families of all the victims find some peace. I do wonder however how some of the celebrity columnists such as Oliver Holt and Martin Samuel who are always ready to write disparaging articles about our club have been so quiet for the last few days.

They both like lfc

Hopefully that will continue .forever
