Unfortunately Brendan Rodgers and his backroom staff ( coaches and scouts ) are quite literally indefensible.
He ( and his staff ) identified and spent over £100 million on players including 3 of Southamptons better players last season.
After 11 games, even without Jay Rodriguez they are 11 points ahead of us after only 11 games.
We can have opinions of what has gone wrong, but the facts are indisputable - Rodgers has made a complete mess of the squad and tactics - I've been a Kopite since 1960 and I do not believe we have had such an inept backroom staff - and that includes the Souness managerial years.
I have never been one to call for a managers dismissal, but what Rodgers's stubbornness is doing to us is hurting.
The only 2 players not getting rotated is Mignolet and Balotelli, I can understand the Mignolet one, but would any club, in any league, at any standard give a striker so many games without scoring? I and I believe in some ways it's not just his fault - so Brendan please listen to fans, pundits and so called football experts - Mario Balotelli cannot play as a lone striker.

Believable17 Unbelievable3

Didnt Crouch get around 11/12 games at the start of his Liverpool tenure without scoring?

Agree6 Disagree0

Yep Rover - you are right, he did, my bad - but at least we tried to play to his strengths.
Balotelli has great qualities, so why do we ignore them - the lad needs help. He is not a lone striker - you know that, I know that, everyone but BR seems to know it.

Don't you all remember the good old days when it was just me and a few others bemoaning Rodgers tactics/team selections? The site was so happy back then.

And now I'm reading that literally the only good spell of form we've had under Rodgers was actually courtesy of Biesla! Haha, oh dear I'm done after hearing that. I would like to do the honours and be the first to say RodgersOut.

Believable10 Unbelievable12

I was on the fence hoping he recovered from his lapse in judgement but it seems that will not happen based on evidence so far. I can honestly say i did not know about bielsa giving him the advice that turned our season around. Beggars belief that he has thrown it out the window and stubbornly persists with a blatantly crap system just to i can only assume prove he knows better than his peers.

Actually knowing this makes me question what value brendan brings to the table, because prior to and post bielsa advice we have been very poor. While i never had rose tinted specs on i was hoping we would not change manager for changes sake but his refusal to adapt is making it hard to support his case.

Eds do you know the circumstances that saw him sacked from reading?

Agree3 Disagree4

I know Sturridge may not change much, but that is the excuse we have. Other players will definitely get a lift from his return. If he comes back and we still look bad, things might be going "that" way.

Agree1 Disagree3

Yet again another fan puts all the pressure on Sturridge. I suppose he will organise the defence, organise the midfield, make the necessary passes forward and then run onto same passes and score. Then he will retreat to midfield to protect the back four and if by a strange stroke of bad luck a player gets through midfield Daniel will retreat to the box to clear the cross or block the shot.

Please sto with the Sturridge saviour stuff, the guy has the weight of an entire football club now resting on his shoulders due to Brendan Rogers woeful management, coaching and tactics.

It's time for a new manager.

Agree5 Disagree6

I remember voicing my concern a long time ago that I thought he was a snake oil salesman who was getting lucky.
I hoped I was wrong
I don't think I was

Agree6 Disagree3

This thread is embarassing and painful to read.

Just for the record this is not a general feeling I sense amongst the local supporters clubs, or anyone I know who regularly travel home and away to the games. YNWA boys.

Agree5 Disagree3

What's this about Biesla?

Agree1 Disagree0

Adam, are you seriously suggesting that because Biesla may, or may not have, suggested some formation tips to Rodgers that he is responsible for last season?

'Courtesy of Biesla'! was Biesla anywhere near Melwood last season? ws he out on the training pitch at any point? was he in the dressing room at White Hart Lane? or Old Trafford? was he in the dressing room the day we beat City at Anfield?

Do you think all you have to do to players is suggest a new formation and everything else just happens?

Now with the 'Rodgers out' call, oh dear.

Agree3 Disagree1

I didn`t know Bielsa was an interim coach/tactical consultant at LFC. Also, didn`t know he was the one coaching SAS and made some of our players really good. Do some of you even know how painful you sound? I get that some people find it extremely painful to give BR any credit for last season BUT this is pathetic. So Bielsa should b credited for us improving from 7th to 2nd and almost winning the PL, is that it? Had we won the PL, would you give Bielsa the creit for that too? Coaches get advice from other coaches while other coaches have mentors in the game whom they go to for counseling and advice so for those of them that are a bit wet behind the earsand have never heard of things like this, THIS HAPPENS A LOT! Now, you can disagree on the merits w/ his ideas and style and rightfully criticize him for what he`s doing or not doing and God knows, I`m just as frustrated as the next guy. However, I would NEVER stoop this low.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - that is your choice, but Rodgers has shown what he is capable of, and for 6 months he did something completely alien to him and look what happened? He deserves no credit, because he is too arrogant to do anything but return to his idiocy.}

Redohio, if BR had used his 'blueprint' that he talks about so often instead of consulting Bielsa, the club would not even be in the UCL in spite of having the SAS last season. Brendan is tactically inept and a con artist, there is no doubt about that. He must be the only manager in the world to abandon a successful system for a failed one just because its his 'blueprint.' The players do not seem to be enjoying their football this season and seem afraid to speak out in fear of getting 'Brendaned' like Agger, Suso, Sakho, Sahin who are all high quality players. His arrogance and stubborness has made the situation even more worse, and the less said about his record in the transfer market the better. The man cannot even identify the most obvious weaknesses in the team, let alone try to rectify them. Why has he not swallowed his pride yet and admitted he cannot organize the defense and appointed a specialist defense coach to sort out the mess? What does his coaching staff do in training apart from sucking out the confidence of the players? Why does he not use a system that the players are comfortable with? The man owes all LFC fans an answer for this shambles he has created.

Agree5 Disagree1

In my opinion rodgers free flow attacking style football is fascinating when you had players like suarez, sterling, sturridge, coutinho, gerrard on their top form. On form these players not just can be devastating for opponents but also stimulate the whole team to play well. but his system is totally useless and ineffective without those players. Balotelli, markovic are no way going to improve his tactics. under rodgers our defense never going to improve . we would need to appoint a strong defensive coach or play like last season. But to make the second one happen we need very similar player like suarez in the system. versatile, intelligent, energetic, supportive player.

But instead we brought balotelli & markovic . markovic hangs on the wing and panicking to shoot or dribble or less movement not going to help him or the team. What he is doing currently is worser than assiadi. if he is not changed than he would be the same as assiadi.

the move for balotelli was totally clueless decision and inept one by the staff. he would never ever suit rodgers style . even a lunatic can understand that but rodgers and his staff don't ! they just bring him to make fake satisfaction . He is totally opposite to suarez. if would have wait until january for a versatile player that would have been more wise decision than bringing him . brendan and balotelli can mix together . no way. you need to at least offload one or even both.

Agree0 Disagree1

That isn't Rodgers style Collins. Rodgers style is splitting the centre backs, dropping an attacking midfielder in between them, pushing the full backs into winger positions, passing the ball around the defence and eventually just lumping an aimless cross in to Balotelli. The free flowing attack you speak of was as a result of advice on how to play ftom Biesla.

Rodgers has proven this season that he is too stubborn to abandon his philosophy though and will not play that free flowing, high pressing football permanently. He wants a defensive possession based style.

Agree1 Disagree4

Ed, if you don`t wanna give him any credit for last year, then that is also your choice. To me, it doesn`t matter who or how you get the advice. If u`re winning games and getting results, then you get the credit. And if you`re losing and being stubborn and inept to the most simplest of things, then you get the blame. That is the fundamentals of how a coach is judged, IMO. He is arrogant and stupidly proud which is clear for all to see. I guess he wants to show BIelsa that he too, has convictions of his own but IMO, BR will fall flat on his face because unlike Bielsa, BR is very uch unproven in the game. If he doesn`t shape up, that stupid pride will get him sacked in the morning for sure.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I would have given him credit if he had stayed with it, but it is difficult to give him credit for doing something he clearly doesn't believe in himself.}

EMS, it`s funny you say that about the system because at Marseilles, Bielsa doesn`t employ that CB`s-splitting crap. I think BR did that on his own.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that is your main gripe with BR, then I totally understand where you are coming from and why you feel that way.

I know it's not LFC related but I have a query for Ed002 re FIFA.

What is your view on what's happened with the bid process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, more so, your view on the latest revelations after Garcia's quote re the final published report. It just seems like a spectacular own goal on FIFA's part. The more they try to prove they aren't corrupt the more corrupt they appear!

How is the organisation generally thought of amongst the football fraternity?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I could spend hours explaining my views, but in simple terms it is a shambles. Putting aside the trivial accusations thrown at The FA, the Australian FA, Korea and Japan, the fundamental issues surrounds the naivety that some people at FIFA were of the opinion that the summary report they have released will have cleared up the issues. Clearly it has not done so. The problem is that neither WC would end up being moved regardless of what the activity reported. It could have been handled much, much better and FIFA are still liable to on going legal issues with the USA and pending issues with the Australian FA. Putting aside the report, I would expect that we will soon see a push for an independent review of the operations of FIFA which may well result in a clear out of many of the senior staff.}

I'm seeing a lot of posters talking about bringing in yet more players to the club to sort out our issues. Playing devils advocate here the players signed have been good/great players for their respective clubs with potential to shift up a few gears with the right mentoring/training and coaching. These 3 seem to be sadly lacking so my question is
Instead of looking at what sticking plasters Rogers can buy - Is he looking within the clubs training regime and coaches to get the right people in to bring our players on?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

Given that we can't really afford a glut of new players without sales. I don't think Lovren, etc suddenly became bad overnight. I certainly think the tactics and coaching is what needs looking at rather than just increasing spending on players.

Agree11 Disagree0

Totally agree Lovern was outstanding last year and sakho is the french captain keeping quality players out the national side. it's the coaching or lack of a defensive one.

I hope Rodgers either wakes up and has a serious rethink. or goes before we sell Sakho and Lucas as 'they arn't in Rodgers little club' of favourite players! We have the squad in on paper. I'm scared to let Rodgers have his way with outs in January as it can get a whole lot worse!

Agree12 Disagree0

Great points by everyone. The job of a coach is to get the best out of the players or put his players in a position to perform. We seem to be seeing the opposite.

Agree4 Disagree0

DaleB, agree with u. Brendan has to leave before he sells Sakho. Sakho imo is our best defender, someone who focuses on the ball more than making fancy passes or grabbing shirts. He is someone i would refer to as a defender first and the rest later. The same cannot be said for Lovren or Skrtel. I would not mind seeing Lucas let go as long as a top replacement for CDM is brought in.

Agree12 Disagree1

Brendan is an ignorant self proclaimed god he has the naivity to not see Toure and Sakho is your most experienced and solid partnership Skrtel should have left years ago and Lovren wasn't needed when Ilori should of got his chance letting agger go was a mistake and that Manquillo is a better player than Johnson

Agree13 Disagree0

I agree with a lot here. It is clear to see that Toure and Sakho are our best defenders and I have said for a long time that they should be first choice, but why can't Rodgers see this? I know Sakho is injured at the minute but he wasn't in his plans before either. Also why can't Rodgers see that Lucas is a better DM than Gerrard? It seems we can all see what's wrong so what is going on inside the club?

Red Rum

Agree7 Disagree0

Totally agree with the posts, but the point I'd like to make is why did the owners give him an extension to his contract when all these problems were there last year and the year before, if RODGERS was this bright young thing he would of sorted the defence out by now. . but nothing's changed.

Agree2 Disagree0

They give him an extension because Rodgers has done what the previous managers didn't do and got us into the Champions League. I don't see any issue of being rewarded for his sffort. Just as he should be sacked if he fails!

Agree1 Disagree0

Great point, Irish! Finally someone with the bullocks to give the man his due. Now if he`s screwing up, he sould be reviewed and if things don`t shape up, he should b sacked.

Morning Eds and Reds,

So been reading how Liverpool may be looking at paying extra and bringing Origi in January as opposed to the summer. All I can say is WHY??

This is the wrong decision for so many reasons.

We are going back on our original agreement that we made with Lille which will lead to lack of trust from clubs that we may deal with on similar transfers in the future.

2. We are bringing a 19 year old kid in to a new league where we're currently struggling resulting in lack of patience from a lot of fans out there, expecting him to hit the ground running and then ending up receiving abuse from certain factors of our so called fans, killing his confidence if it doesn't happen for him straight away.

3. A percentage of the fans feel that when Sturridge is fit that Balo will start finding form due to the support he will have. If they do manage to forge a good understanding with each other, Origi is unlikely to get in the team ahead of them, thus resulting in hindering his progression by sitting on the bench where he was gaining a lot more experience if he had been left at Lille for the remainder of the season AS AGREED INITIALLY.

I genuinely hope that this is poor or lazy journalism due to him scoring for Belgium mid week ( and although his individual skill looked promising during the build up to the goal, that shot would not have got past many premier league keepers ). I see the hype with Origi and think he will be a very good player for years to come, but if we put the pressure on him in January and bring him here early because we are struggling and hope he can turn it around for us then I have a fear if the expectation may be too much for him, it could have a detrimental effect on his confidence for a long time after.

Ideal scenario? We've already made the agreement, we buy him, you have him back for a year, then he comes to us permanently. This is what we agreed so this is what we should do.

Eds and reds, your opinions as always, would be appreciated.

{Ed002's Note - (a) Liverpool cannot force the situation. (b) This has likely come out of an interview with the player as Liverpool have already provided an explanation to UEFA for the manager's comments to the press. (c) If the player has made any comments at the behest of Liverpool it will simply attract more grief. (d) I don't see the player dropping right in to the team. (e) It is not "lazy journalism".}

Hi 002,

Thanks for your response, appreciate it. When I said Lazy journalism, some of the reports that have been published this morning are saying that this is an option that Liverpool are seriously looking at and looking to push through.

The comments quoted by the player shouldn't bring any further grief as he states he is happy staying at Lille as originally agreed but if the 2 clubs decided he was to move in January, he is also happy with that, mature comments for a young lad, not suffering from foot in mouth disease already.

I agree that the player won't drop straight into the team, needs to be eased in slowly to give hi time to settle, can't expect too much too soon.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not an "option" for Liverpool - it would require Lille to agree.}

People clamoring for Origi in January just shows how desperate the situation is at the club, and how poorly the money from the Suarez sale was spent. A club of the size of LFC should not be pinning their hopes on a 19 year old striker to come back from loan and save their season. Brendan has a lot of questions to answer regarding how dire the situation has become.
