Just discovered the chalkboard thingymagizmo on the guardian website. Its great, lets you plot sucessfull/unsucessful passes, interceptions, tackles etc on a pitch. Might be handy over the season to prove a few points

Not sure how long its been around.

Are people getting bored with all the nonsense that a lot of people submit for posting?

number of posts over the last few days appears to have dropped dramaticaly.

14 Aug 2011 22:32:48
I know people are entitled to a opinion but I wish they would get off andy carrol's back and how we spent 35 mil well we gog rid of a player who didnt want to play for us and got one world class player and a promising british player im more than happy with the deal plus we got carrol like aquilani injured he had a serious thigh problem by all accounts so it's going to be a while till he's totally fighting fit so I'm going to judge him in 6 months + because people are going on about aquilani on how he should be playing and he's so good and that's because he's now fully fit so let's all be patient with him and judge him when fully fit.

14 Aug 2011 22:30:53
imo we STILL STILL need a world class player, only one in the striking/winger area. if this happens the season will be the best for us in years...... plz kk/dc pull this off for the mighty reds..

14 Aug 2011 22:25:35
Do you think Kenny will switch to 4-3-3 once Gerrard is back in order to reclaim control of games as lets face it even with Adam in there, so far we re a way way behind the 2008/2009 midfield of Mascherano / Alonso. Every game we controlled the midfield with tenacity determination and consistent quality, we just missed Luis Suarez. Now we are in the middle of a rebuilding process but its going to be hard if not impossible to get to that level of control in a 4-4-1-1 with Lucas and Adam. I think we must go with a 4-3-3 when Stevie is back but I feel to get to the next level we need real quality Striker with pace to provide Andy with genuine competition.

14 Aug 2011 21:52:04
A tale of two halves yesterday, the good the bad and the ugly. Overall very promising though, we look very fluid when playing well and it suits the players we have who all like to pass and move and have decent technique. Lucas' passing is much improved. I feel a 4-3-3 formation would suit the players we have better as it is a fluid formation and encourages more freedom then a 4-4-2. Each of the new signings showed up well, each one was understandably nervous and they kept things simple. This will change when they become more settled and get to know their new team mates. Overall very encouraging for the season ahead, at the end of the day it was opening day. However something I wasn't so keen on was Carra's constant long diagonal ball to Carroll which was not giving the boy a chance and it didn't help at all. Get the ball down and work it out, our boys are very good technically. Gary Cahill would slot in well there as he is a brilliant passer, I still have my reservations about him though. Carra is a legend and we all love him but I think it is coming to that stage of his career now where he will have to accept that he will be fazed out of the team. It's just how these cycles go. On my last point Andy Carroll must stop isolating himself, he gets lost in Suarez's movement along with the opposing defenders and ends up on his own and of no threat. Get close to Suarez and work off him and with him, don't run away from him.

14 Aug 2011 21:51:18
Does any fellow red think that we will change the way we play this season?
What I mean is , can we play a higher line move the ball quicker , get more numbers in the box etc
Basically play the way the champions do
Is it our lack of pace in defence or lack of width?
Or is it not KK s style?
I'm totally behind him and the team BTW.
But swapping one player for another hopefully better one still I think needs to be achieved with a different style.
Maybe we started to see it back end last season.
But not sure if we truly have the personnel to execute it though.
Will always be with them just want us in top 4 this year
Then the DC plan continues..

Alberton Aquilani is too good to let go we need someone like this in the squad as we have lacked a clever mind in the midfield since yossi left, this video is proof we need aqua to stay

14 Aug 2011 21:32:53
More a question than a rumour, Aquillani didn't appear on the matchday programme yesterday, he's on the LFC website as 15. Now the question is do the printer of the programme know he's going? I would assume the programmes are printed days in advance of the game?

14 Aug 2011 21:31:22
Player should go for Victor Moses, he seems ready for Premiership football. They paid 2.5million and got him on a 5 year deal.

14 Aug 2011 21:31:13
What's going on with Reina? I heard there was complications with his injury and he was not going to be fit for the start of the season and for the first few weeks into it? But he started yesterday.
Can anyone help me with this?

14 Aug 2011 21:29:32
Die hard liverpool supporter. Carroll in the last six months has never shown any class or being worthy of the liverpoll shirt except in man c and valencia game. He does not draw defenders , I think yesterday he had zero shots headers on target apart from disallowed goal.

Is he realy top 4 standard?could we sell him tomorrow for 20 m doubtful surez and ensrique show what u can buy for 22 m and 6 m. The king has to bite the bullet and play Kuyt and surez both have energy and play for the team and shirt. Carroll can not even be bothered to do a proper warm down after the game- yet it is his duty we paid 35m he must as a minimum act as a professional.
He is an ugrateful new generation footballer with height but with none of the true liverpool shankly values
Still time to see him back to newcastle at a loss and bring in someoen else

14 Aug 2011 21:27:40
People don't you agree that we should either draft auqaman into this seasons plans or get rid on the cheapish and move on with a slightly inexpensive replacement ( hopefully a young, splightly, entertainging british attacking midfielder/striker ) and move on. This guy is adequate bur doesn't want to play for us so just get rid By the way I thought we played well yesterday, downing was fantastic and Adam was good. On top of that the Suarez and Carroll were tip top. Top four at least is definately a cert..... C'mon our beloved LFC. In KK we trust. Village.

14 Aug 2011 21:20:32
eds can you tell me why on earth Joe Cole is the face of our official website? seems strange that an unwanted fringe player is the face of our club. surely Kuyt, Gerrard or Carragher would be a better option?

Just a thought, thanks Richy P {Ed001's Note - I can't say I have given it any thought to be honest, in fact I have not even noticed he was.}

alrite ed with us poss being out priced on cahill and shawcross,do you thinkn we will move in to other targets.and are we wait for dann to prove his fitness before making a bid?boss site by the way

ste liverpool {Ed001's Note - I have been wondering that about Dann, he always seemed the obvious candidate, but I have not heard anything regarding Liverpool interest in him and Brum are not good at keeping things quiet. Hence why I think that we must be out in Spain to pick up a centre back, though it could be totally unrelated reasons for them being there. It could just as easily be a sale or a delegation to look at the stadium for the planning of a new one or any number of other reasons. There is so little to go on until something leaks from the other end these days.}

this will raise temperature with the tunnel visioned.yesterday we started superbly, passing, movement, pacey football.downing skillfull, and gr8 shot off bar.adam wand of left foot, plenfy of skill.however they ran outve steam and became disjointed 2nd half.hendersen had good engine, but drifted outve game.however did see promise.enrique impressed, solid, good link up with downing.there the positives.negatives=lackve leadership in the middle, when positionally we got in disarray under pressure.there was a worrying panic and collapse when the equaliser came.insteadve a determined reaction.we then started lumping it long.and heres the key point-carrol major doubts.hes immobile.slow off mark, doesnt throw his weight and size about.or even read game.far post he never read enrique cross that wouldve been tap in.i know hes different qualaties but lad didnt break sweat.looked like a show pony.get stuck in/work lad.or for me,and even endve last season, kuyt offers better partnership with suarez.to that end ild suggest we need a striker of pace, just as much as cahill in defence.cos without suarez were slow/cumbersome.dunno who ild suggest.vfm=defoe?

Liverpool is more than a club, its a family, the fans and the club share great history like brothers and sisters, I dont care if Manchester Utd win the league every year or chelsea I support this team for the passion of the liverpool people, we win and we lose. were goin threw tough times, We had our glory days where nobody could beat us, Shankly and Paisley showed us the Liverpool way, and with Kenny Back in the driving seat, maybe we can bring back the Shankly days, proud to be a red. The Americans will review the situation, 10 games into the season. They are serious operators.

Adam, Lucas, Aqua, Spering, Jonjo, Meirles, Polson. all 7 player for the same position ? we may sale Aqua and Polson. as stil worry about Aquas fitness.

14 Aug 2011 19:26:06
I'm amazed at the amount of criticism of Andy Carroll here. Did these posters actually see his strength, touch and finishing for what should have been our second goal? If it had not been incorrectly disallowed these same people would be talking about his quality. Do they blame Carroll for a poor decision, or do they actually believe the goal should have been disallowed?
There are plenty of Man U, City, Chelsea and Arsenal players if you need someone to hate. Try supporting the players who wear our shirt for a change.

I am sorry to say it, after bought 5 player I think we still not quick on mind. we still have player with no future in the club. and wish have a quick right winger. Elia is a choice as he is fast price is around 10m euro. and he is Dutch speaker. Suarez Kyut also dutch speaker that may work out. I WISH KYUT PARTNER WITH SUAREZ UP FRONT. AND LET MAXY TRY IN RIGHT WING.

14 Aug 2011 19:20:21
Manchester Utd ramp up the pressure towards the end of games. It is a tactical decision + fitness training

they expect smaller teams to allow them to win if they push the team a little. They expect Roy Hodgson to protect his lead with a view to the next game against Wolves or bottom 3.

Utd have always liked wingers, crosses into the box, dribbles at goal will get a team free-kicks and corners.

These days, their is very little between players, Aston Villa have a good standard of players, but young would of never of tried to push fior the win .

Ed,

You have to take actions against the vicious personal attacks on Gary Neville that are being posted.

I look at him and feel a deep sense of sorrow for him. People like Neville deserve sympathy and encouragement. Come on guys lay off its not fair.

United Strike force Liverpool Strike force
Berbatov Suarez
Roony Carrol
hernandez Kuyt
walback Nogog
Owen ?

United wingers Liverpool wingers
Nani downing
Young Maxi
Giggs Henderson
Valencia Cole

United C.Medfield Liverpool C.Medfield
Cleverly Spearing
Anderson Adams
Carrick Lucas
simpson Gerrad
? Aqualani
? Raul
? Poulson
? Shelvy

These are mainly the players that are available to Kenny and fergi for scoring and creating goals we can see other then C.M where we are heavily loaded we are way behind in wingers and strikers.Kenny is not a magician tools are needed by artist to turn rock into a sculpture. It is not appropriate to compare us with United each week.we have some way to go in terms of squad strength.

I am so confused, I went to the game yesterday and I know it's only one game but Henderson and Adam don't look as good as what we already have in the squad. Kuyt and Mereiles are far, far better players in the positions which KK played them in yesterday. So why therefore have we spent circa £27m on the pair?? Cole, Aquliani & Poulsen would have been better yesterday. Massive lack of movement up top too with Carrol, I'm sorry but not good enough, we just reverted to long balls We desperately need another striker, this HAS to be a priority Eds what's your view surely striker next? {Ed001's Note - no point getting another striker in if the midfield is too far away to give them support. A centre back with pace is more important in my mind, then the whole team can press higher up the pitch.}

14 Aug 2011 20:02:31
So much for Macca saying the CD signed would be Cahill or Dann - if that's so why did we bid for Shawcross?

Through the Storm {Ed001's Note - are you sure we bid for Shawcross?}

Hi,

Been on these forums a while and was on holiday last week; I hear there is a fantasy league. I tried last night but the servers were down and being in Devon the internet is nil. I was wondering if the creator would be able to reopen so I could join, I have a Team etc. But having no internet I couldn't join this league as I was on holiday. Please and Thanks anyway.

Did anyone get on the look on KK face during our miserable pre-season games? Same look yesterday, he is a winner and the players will get that drummed into them. Work in progress lads no need to worry unless the expectations of some fans overshadow the realities we face. Change takes time, I for one can see a massive difference from twelve months ago. Still would like to see Aqualani or Pacheco or similar type player who can unlock defences in tight games, maybe as subs but can be used as plan 'B'.

-------------------------------------------------
You call it luck brother I call it attitude which has been developed by them for last 15 years we had patented that attitude in our glory years and now they show the same.
Luck favors the brave. You can't win lottery without buying ticket.

You know in our game even with extra time to go I knew we had lost the points.
You see there players even young like claverly they play with freedom where as our players are playing with burden of expectation.

You know how I know this because there is one other team which plays with that burden "The Indian Cricket Team"

I see lots of similarities between Indian Cricket Team and our club where millions of fans just want success where after 1 bad performance you are disregarded as failure and with one success as hero or Saviour.

Kenny's biggest job will be to make our team believe that it is their birth right to win matches because whether you may hate Fergi but that whats he has taught his team.

Attitude was missing in second half when sunderland leveled.heads dropped.

Its a good team we have they need their leader someone to grab them by collar with his performance. You know the name Steve G.

God england are so stupid by not making their Medfield around him.

I have seen Sachin tandulkar carry Indian team on his shoulders through some series and we all have seen Gerrard do the same for Liverpool.
may he recover fast.

Hi eds,while playing for ath/madrid
De gea had the worst record in
La liga for letting in goals from a
distance,thats why west/brom tried
banging it in from anywhere
unfortunately not many were

Paul Hayward on Andy Carroll: "A Liverpool striker cannot be a static player in the box waiting just to finish; he's got to do more off the ball.
What worried me more is that he doesn't look particularly quick across the ground. He may still be carrying an injury and he's not perhaps razor-sharp yet, but I just wonder how he's going to develop as a player.
He can't be a static number nine because that player's gone out of fashion now, so his general work in the forward areas has got to be good.
Mind you Suarez is so good at that, maybe he'll do his work for him. It's an interesting stage in Carroll's development."

This is absolutely what to say about Andy Carroll.

YNWA Fellow Reds.

14 Aug 2011 17:35:20
{Ed001's Note - actually it is more about the centre backs needing to stay deep than Lucas. He plays deep because Carra has no pace and the cover is needed to be deeper. It is the exact same problem we had under Houllier with Hyypia and Henchoz as our centre halves. Good as they were, we had to drop deep and that made it difficult to get out of defence and we would hoof it to Heskey.}
{Ed001's Note - yes I do think we need more pace at the back. Get that and it frees up Agger to saunter forward with the ball at his feet, allows us to press high up the pitch without fear of a ball pinged over the top, allows the midfield to play further up the pitch without having to worry that they are leaving space behind them etc etc. The lack of pace at the back is forcing us to alter our game to make allowances.}

Hope you don't mind me quoting you Ed001, but i cannot see a more outstanding analysis of our teams primary problem, i can guarantee while Carra has been a legend for Liverpool, as long as he is the starting centre back with whoever else, Liverpool will never win the league.
I hope we sign Cahill.....Hopefully his performance yesterday went some way to convincing you a bit more about him Ed001.

Jimmy YNWA {Ed001's Note - I love Carra, he is a lovely lad and gives his all for the team, but I do think it is time to look at a new centre back. Even if only to push him, because he is a fighter and his game reaches new heights every time he has to fight for his place.}

hello eds and fans I just was wondering what was happening with maxi are we keeping him or not? thanks

hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - it is likely he will stay but he would be available if someone came in for him. It is not a case of us wanting him out though, just a wage bill that is too high and unable to get rid of the ones we really want gone.}

14 Aug 2011 18:11:10
New one for you's, been reported in local papers in N.Ireland that Liverpool contacted Celtic re the chances of getting Paddy McCourt. Check out his goal for N.Ireland during the week. He can do some amazing things but a luxury player according to some. Reminds me of Matt Le Tissier.

14 Aug 2011 18:07:36
Jamie and Gary are better off getting a room.

14 Aug 2011 18:07:09
Fab + Nasri didn't play for Arsenal. aquilani could be injured again, we don't know

I would put him on, done the whole Shop window. He would of played great, the way Torres did against Chelsea, but Kenny knows best.

I can't see him playing away from home. So i guess KK doesnt want us to see him play for LFC, as it would only upset the fans and community when he leaves..

14 Aug 2011 18:02:45
I have a feeling Ben Foster will be back at Man Utd soon.

14 Aug 2011 18:01:22
Can someone explain to me how football clubs work out valuation of players.

I can't understand why the price has jumped £10m players are now going for £20million.

It would be nice if someone knew the calculation or they come to these valuations for players.

14 Aug 2011 17:57:58
In the sense that they can not maintain a consistent work rate for 90 mins.

14 Aug 2011 17:55:18
The only thing we can take from that game is that utd looked poor but the ref helped them win that game never seen so many decisions go there way bet hodgson has a good whinge though

14 Aug 2011 17:54:02
I know i will be slated but King Kenny's buy British theory is going to be big flop, Downing is as bigger a flop as a flop can be, Adam gives nothing in open play expect fouls of course and lacks a brain, Hendo will be a good long term player imo, Enrique is good, but the whole philosophy is awful Phil Jones is average and we almost gave away 20m, and Ayala is sold for 850k look for him to be a brilliant defender for Norwich, Gary Cahil? Stoke showed how good he is at Wembley, Ayala will be better than Cahill Dann Shawcross combined

14 Aug 2011 17:51:37
Our BEST performance last season without a doubt was our thrashing of Fulham at Craven Cottage, football played fast, short, along the floor, class,so what do we do in the next game? Play our 35m lump and just pump the ball into the box and guess what? we lose I know 35m is a lot for a bench warmer but i reckon he is only a desperation move when we are losing going into the last 10 mins of a game. What a waste of 35m when we could have bought a ctr back and cover in other areas

14 Aug 2011 17:44:40
Top 4? Dont make me laugh Lets get this King Kenny rubbish out of our minds, Paid well over the odds for the likes of Carroll and Henderson and if we cant beat a team like sunderland easily then you have to question his tactics. Remember, he last managed us when he TOOK OVER a brilliant squad and when they got too old he jumped ship, went to Newcastle and took an entertaining team to bits before he was kicked out and ditto with Celtic. Nope i think we have a long hard season ahead of us. YNWA

Any new news on marco bueno. Think he should be at liverpool now Thanks

14 Aug 2011 17:21:38
Don't forget that Macca and some good sources all said a while back that that we were seriously interested in a CB, either Cahill or Dann.

It might only depend now on whether we can shift players out to reduce the wage bill, but you can bet we are still looking to get someone in if it is at all possible or affordable.

We should buy one or try jhonson there on right..he would do a good job IMO.

Dear Kenny,
If your watching UTD vs WBA please note that their 17.5M keeper is rubbish at low shots. I don't think he can get down low very fast. That been said 8M for Long may have been well spent as a nice active backup to Luis. Thanks

We need to have a plan B when plan A (balls up to Carroll) isn't working. Someone to play in the hole (ala Luis Garcia/Benayoun) would have been good

14 Aug 2011 12:07:11
good morning ed's, do you think we will have signed a centre back before the arsenal match? i hope we sign gary cahill, i think he is one of the best centre backs in premier league :) fantastic work on the site. {Ed002's Note - It is impossible to acurately predict the completion of transfers.}

RE: so according to the comments of 75% of the people on here the season is over before it starts

I was just disappointed that even after the expensive signing the big build-up all morning. The city seemed to expect Liverpool to win. Some how we all thought Kenny would win us the title this year.

Not winning first game of the season at Home. predictions said we had 68% chance of winning.

But this result shows that Liverpool are on course for 6th place finish. we draw to sunderland last and year year before that.

We may get a better run of results in October this year. That may make a difference in league position. we lost to blackpool. everton when the club was taken over.

But if we continue to drop our usual points. we will end up 6, 5,

20 Aug 2011 Arsenal A 12:45 Draw
24 Aug 2011 Exeter A 19:45
27 Aug 2011 Bolton H 17:30 Win
September 2011
10 Sep 2011 Stoke City A 15:00 Draw
18 Sep 2011 Tottenham A 13:30 Draw/Lose
24 Sep 2011 Wolves H 15:00 Win

So if the following happens, then our title run is over in September. Its very likely we will draw at arsenal, Stoke away hard game.

But Arsenal have 16 Tue UEFA Champions League H Udinese 19:45, This make make them weaker for our game on Saturday. If the Udinese doesn't go Arsen Wengers way, then everyone will be calling for his head come our game.

Considering Fab+Nasri are both benched, it makes the situation more tense. I think Arsen has to park the bus and go for a draw. He doesn't have the players.

2009-10
1 16.08.2009 Tottenham Hotspur away L1-2
3 24.08.2009 Aston Villa home L1-3

slow start.

October has been a killer

9 17.10.2009 Sunderland away L0-1 8 15
10 25.10.2009 Manchester United home W2-0 5 18
11 31.10.2009 Fulham away L1-3 5 18

last season

9 24.10.2010 Blackburn Rovers home W2-1 18 9
10 31.10.2010 Bolton Wanderers away W1-0 12 12

Aug- Starts -dropping points in first we games is a killer to title ambitions. - Everyone is excited and new siging want to impress.

Sept - Kids go back to school.
Life carry on as normal - Everything new, getting a few good results.

Good afternoon, I was very pleased with our performance yesterday despite the draw. We all know it could have been a totally different story.

Anyway my point is, the right wing. We effectively have no natural right wingers within the squad with Kuyt playing there numerous times but he should be a striker so he can do what he does best, score goals. I believe that in his younger days, Jordan Henderson used to play there, but he certainly does not have enough pace to take on the full back's although in his defence, he has a quality crossing ability. The lad looked nervous yesterday and rightly so, on a Premier League debut against the team he supports.

I would just like to give my view on the team I would think could be most effective against any opposition within the league.

REINA

JOHNSON CARRA AGGER ENRIQUE

KUYT GERRARD ADAM DOWNING

SUAREZ CARROLL

Then my pick for the team next week:

------------Reina------------

-Kelly--Carra--Agger--Enrique-

------Spearing-----Adam------

---Suarez---Kuyt---Downing---

------------Carroll-------------

I think yesterday, had we had Spearing on the field, a player with a little fire to break down what Cattermole and Colback were doing, then we would not have played as poorly as we did in the 2nd half. Although it is quite evident that most players are unfit at this stage despite pre-season.

Finally I think it is too early in their careers to include players such as Toni Silva, Raheem Sterling etc. in the 1st team set up, but it is positive that we do have players up and coming in that position. Obviously what I say is my opinion and in no way am I trying to undermine KD or SC with their tactics. I hope my above idea's are synonymous to many other supporters despite being somewhat subjective.

If you have a wildcard available on the EPL fantasy league does that allow you to make as many transfers in that week without being deducted any points for making the transfers?

Bolton need to buy a few players. So are they waiting for the Cahill money?

14 Aug 2011 14:34:36
What do some fans see in Ryan Shawcross? For me, he simply doesn't have a very good footballing brain. Just a bit of a brute.

Gary Cahill's very good at reading the game, but just hoofs it up too much. Whether that can be trained out of his game i don't know?

Scott Dann all the way for me. Very good on the ball and a good defender. Not to mention his support for the club.

Stu.

Keep the faith fellow Reds,KK is changing things around but it will take time. The squad has to be strengthened,we need champion league football then with extra revenue we can add more quality t to a good squad. This season is not (unfortunatly)about winning the league, its about finishing as high as poss and champions league football which i know we will achieve.Yesterday 1st half was good,Suarez is back and all new players got a game under their belts. It will get better as KK says it will.

Ed's. If Kenny's favoured system is 4-4-2 (as Carroll has to be included). Who would you reckon is our best 2 CM's? I personally think Adam & Lucas won't work and would rather shift Henderson back into the middle to play alongside Adam. {Ed001's Note - I think Adam and Lucas is currently our best pairing and they will get better as they learn to play alongside eath other. I think they will compliment each other well personally.}

14 Aug 2011 13:13:03
Good day all
Just a bit of crack, but what do you make Ed of Wenger allowing this transfer saga of their 2 x best players to drag on almost until the end of the window?
I know obviously the guy doesn't want either of them to leave, but is he in denial or what ?
I mean we were given to understand that Arsenal had money to spend anyway, without this potential £58m sale fund. So why not just get business done early doors, get your CB in and spend a little more if you have to.
Anyway, I don't think any of us should moan about Commolli or our dealings. Please let's get in a CB and then that's it. Where's these Higuain rumours come from ?
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - I really don't understand Wenger's thinking, the contract policy at Arsenal is complete and utter madness. They leave contracts to run down, only offer one year contracts to anyone over 30 and they dither. I think they need to sit down and really have a good hard look at how they run the club.}

14 Aug 2011 14:20:37
If G Cahill Comes in, Will someone be leaving? Carra, Stkrel or Agger?

Greek defender Kyrgiakos does what is said on the tin, if LFC have injuried he will play. He is happy playing 12 games a season and giving it his all. he is 32.

If a new CBK that means 37 games to him. Plus no Europe. Say Martin Skrtel is safe, then who will be leaving ,

Martin Skrtel 38 Premier - 2010-11
Jamie Carragher 28
Daniel Agger 12
Sotirios Kyrgiakos 10

Jamie Carragher 37 Premier - 2009-10
Daniel Agger 23
Martin Skrtel 16
Sotirios Kyrgiakos 13

Jamie Carragher 38 Premier - 2008-09
Martin Skrtel 20
Daniel Agger 15
Sami Hyypia 12

so according to the comments of 75% of the people on here the season is over before it starts. Congrats to Owen Coyle on winning the league and Mick Mc Carthy for making the CL. Stoke are playing Chelsea tough so far, they may need to watch out as they may drop a point or 3. Sunderland will take points off the big boys this year IMO and in all reality we were class in the first 45 minutes. Should have been 3-0 up but we weren't. Larsons goal was a class strike and we can blame Flano all we want but it was a great ball in and a great finish. If flano was on his shoulder and the cross was different and larson attacked it with his head and scored we'd say he wasn't goal side of him. It's one game where we we great for half of it and ran out of steam in the last 20-25 minutes. It's a marathon not a sprint. A win at the gooners will make all right. They were dismal against Newcastle yesterday. Chin up Kopites. Judge after 4-5 games when the new lads gel together.

P.S. If any of you were at the game yesterday I give you 10/10 for the 1st half and 5/10 for your 2nd half.
Let's all start being a little more realistic.

Sunderland fan here, I know some of you are but the others can you give us credit? 1st half was yours, 2nd half was us, yes you should of been 2 up but we showed we mean business 2nd half, I thought you lot played well and look good. I know richardson was lucky to stay on the pitch, but suarez tripped over his own ankles and dived, the thing is Carragher could of got sent off for his studs showing challenge on Gyan. In the end a fair result, I think you lot can get the into the top four and I expect us to be 6th or 7th. You have signed some good players and did well yesterday. Give it time and Dalglish will bring glory to you

14 Aug 2011 14:06:41
Why do we want to buy a CB? We have Agger who is a top class defender (when not injured), Carragher with a lot of experience, and Skrtel with an Okay niveau. Do you see him as a stand in for Carra?

what in the hell was enrique doing starting yeaterday with a defence he has never worked with? where was the bench? and what the hell was suarez being rushed back for with no rest or pre season.. yeaterday was poor. not for the performance on the pitch. not bad for a side thrown together for the 1st time but off the pitch. daglish's decisions show why he was not in demand as a manager when he was out of work. tactically nieve at best. thinks its like a videogame. im not happy with him, never was and yesterday confirmed it. nobody can convince me he is a good manager for the 21st century.

interesting, Formation and line-ups- First day of the season will give us an idea how we will play all season long.

Its was organised, set pieces where good, defending looks good.

Quality goals will get through, but otherwise it looked good at the back. Im just wondering about Paul Konchesky. He would of started today if we had him, plus i don't think he was all that made. The player has been in the premiership for 10years. Solid for Fulham.

14 Aug 2011 13:30:39
Am I the only one who doesn't think we need another centre back. I think that carragher, skrtel, agger, Kelly Wilson are cover enough, particularly if Agger can play consistently.. The Greek is perhaps not needed, but from what I understand, there are even more young players like Wisdom knocking on the door of the first team. We may have a fond surprise like we did with Kelly, Robinson and flannagan last season

like everyone else i'm disappointed with the result yesterday but i'm not going to come on here slagging players or management off i just have one question for the eds, with the bench being so defensive and IMO a bit weak do you think the likes of cole, aquilani and maxi are all on there way out and if so do you think kk will start using the likes of suso and sterling on the bench coz as i said i felt yesterdays bench looked weak and lacked a bit of creativeness which is wot we need particulary when we're at home and struggling to break teams down.

If Kenny Dalglish cannot get it right then there is no one on the planet who can get it right for Liverpool Football Club.
Everyone need to get behind the team & believe in the signings Kenny made & hope they turned out to be good.
Though its early days I have concerns wit Carroll,
He needs to work hard, he lacks ball control which is indeed a must when he plays with Suarez. Carroll can't dribble past defenders & run after through balls but it won't be a problem as long as he uses his areal ability well and hold up the ball for Suarez.

I am sure Jose Enrique will prove to be a an absolute bergain for us with the price we paid for him.
We saw what Downing can do but he need's to show it consistently and hope he will certainly do it.
Jordan will also come good, thought yesterday he was forced always to track back to provide cover & help for Young Flanno. If we have some one solid their at the RB then Henderson will have more freedom to play high up the pitch.

I hope as the new players become
integrated into the team, and know each other well & understand well this team can be great.

I know many of you want LFC to win the title though bit unrealistic but we have to always keep our hopes high then we can achieve that top four finish. If we aim for top 4 not the title then we might have to settle for a Europa League place which will be for me a kind of disaster for LFC.

I hope as the season goes our players form a good team & we aim for top & get their.

Some miexed comments on this weekends game. But all I will say is we played with 4 brand new players yesterday along with a brand new strike partnership due to Carrolls injury last season and dont forget suarez is only 50-60% match fit.

The first half was a brilliant showing but give some credit to Sunderland. They are a well drilled team and they dont allow teams to have it all their own way so although a draw isn't deemed acceptable, I think the reality is that with time, this Liverpool team will sweep many others aside.

Expectations are sky high and rightly so, but we didn't lose and we could have won the game by half time so I for one will look at all the positives and realise that this is a work in progress and we will only get better and better as the season goes.

Already looking forward to next weekend.

Well lessons learnt from 1st game -
Liverpool still look like relying on Gerrard (and Torres who's gone) to win the games...
Adam, Downing and Enrique are class
Henderson and Carroll offcourse need to settle in.
Addition of new Striker will force Carroll to perform the best.
Henderson will get better along the season.

It seems the soul/spirit to win is missing from the team.

Mereiles (if not on tranfer list) should be given more chance as he was the heart of attack last year and we indeed won many matches when he performed.

Lastly a Commanding centre back is needed.

If not from EPL please look for other leagues. We really need a great centre back(someone like carra/ferdinand/terry)

Right winger if possible should be signed or if not then promote someone from Academy to play on flanks ( Sterling)

SO i would sum up that we really need a decent Striker, commanding CB and if possible Winger.

If possible we should swap player for Aqualani with Fiorentina possibly Vargas/Cerci/Ljajic or even Jovetic plus some cash.

no pace its the same old story Man Utd keep buying it and rack up the titles while we buy slow players lets start at the back centre backs too slow not good enough in the air that midget sunderland had won everything flanno a kid exposed lucas and adam too slow no support for the front two downing slow henderson is not repeat is not a right winger he played for sunderland centre won an england cap rave reviews then sunderland sell bent they move him to right he gets booed at the end of the season i knew we would buy him and put him on the right because we are square pegs in round hole club absolutely sick of it how many more managers are gonna do this its ridiculous if you want a right sided player go and buy one lets hope rahim breaks through he has pace

I know Aqua wants to go back to Italy, but he should appreciate Liverpool need fair value for his transfer fee. We should make him knuckle down and show his class till we receive an acceptable offer. If he starts playing regularly and well then I am sure his attitude to the club will get better and he may end up being integral part of the squad. His agent I think is being a pain in Italy telling them that he is desperate to leave and that makes the Italian clubs put in ridiculous offers.

What do you think Eds? {Ed001's Note - not a chance he will get a game in Kenny's favoured system, so he will not get regular starts. He simply is not up to playing in a 4 man midfield in the English league.}

14 Aug 2011 11:19:51
Disappointing result defo, but their was more then enough good things that happened in the first half especially to not push the panic button just yet. How did i know that from just about being accepted by the masses on here that we have a dodgy second half that Carroll and Henderson would get the blame suprise suprise. Might seem negative but thought 4 points from first 2 games was the target in my mind and we defo showed more then Arsenal did against a Newcastle side that are of a simular standard to Sunderland. Whatever team K.K picks next game against Arsenal i'm positive we can get the 3 points we need, and regain some confidence and belief back. Not just some of the players but some of us fans too. Hey ed, i do think the cahill interest is somewhat overhyped at the minute. I think there is interest but everything else seems to be twitter and facebook driven. Considering dann may not be an option anymore, i have a feeling shawcross is kenny's first choice. What you rekon Ed? {Ed001's Note - I would hope not, I would rather stick with Carra than have Stoke's 3rd best centre back join us. If we are going to look at someone from there, surely Huth would be the lad, he is the best defender they have.}

14 Aug 2011 10:57:46
It seems that if 1 person mentions a target that everyone jumps on the band wagon I don't know anyone at the club, I don't have any cousins, nephews, brothers, friends or have never been in the local chippy while dc/kk have But leaking goals seems to be a big threat so far this season So I definitely think a cb is on the cards I also don't know who it will be but Cahill did not get announced after the match and did not switch teams at half time(although was that another rumour?) I think dc/kk will have Plenty of irons in the fire and will be an announcement over the next week, be it Cahill or A N Other. Fantastic site keep up the good work eds.

Ps I think to sign a big name player(mata or friends) we would need to offer a lot more than just "you will be playing for the biggest club in the world"

My comments may be over the top but
whilst at the match yesterday it was
clear to me that we lacked a real leader
in the middle of the park. Gerrard will not
be back in the next couple of months despite
what the club are saying. We need a
tough CM.

Also what concerns me is that we require
a new CB. It seems to me that the
addition of Henderson (yes he could be one
for the future) is money we could have
used elsewhere. What do you think Ed01 {Ed001's Note - the money is irrelevant as deals are not done based on a hard and fast budget but a deal-by-deal basis. So that 15m wouldn't have been able to be added onto another bid if we hadn't got him. The problem is the wage bill and Jordan has added very little to that, it is the Joe Cole's, Christian Poulsen's etc that are causing us problems.}

14 Aug 2011 07:48:58
You know ed when you read the headlines in papers today I knew there will be some along the lines of Anfeild revolution starts with wimper but there is one thing good about this all.

Football has come back and the over analysis has become. God bless us for that because I missed it so much.

I have only 2 point its first game of season we will improve as a team more players play together.

1 more winger Kenny you need an option if Downing becomes quite he is our only out and out winger and we need winger for service to carrol.

Ed why was cole and maxi both missing yesterday do you think both could be off as they are not injured.got any info on the same.

Red Indian {Ed001's Note - neither are first choice players, Cole has been available since January but no one will pay his wages. Maxi on the other hand is seen as a very good squad player and he is unlikely to go, though he might have to be sacrificed to lower the wage bill.}

Was at the game yesterday. Was hoping to see more from Henderson. Wasn't involved enough, drifted inside and exposed Flanagan. Hope he is not another Carrick - good against the lesser teams but found wanting against the best midfields.

14 Aug 2011 09:56:44
Spoke to Scott Dann's grandad yesterday and he said his agent met with Arsenal on thursday - there has been NO contact from Liverpool with Birmingham so really don't think we're looking at him - gutted because i rate him much more highly than Shawcross Don't usually post unless it's something from good source - i'm hoping we'll try to go for Cahill ;-)

14 Aug 2011 09:47:11
For me I was really disappointed with yesterday. We had a good 25-30 mins and should of been 3 up, but then Sunderland got on the lack of pace and movement in midfield and pressed up on us. We don't have anyone mobile enough in the centre Lucas/Adam surely can't be our cm pairing? Should really be one or the other with Henderson in there until Gerrard gets back. We also still lack a bit of pace around the pitch we need5 or 6 quick players not 2 or 3 if we are going to hit long balls to Carroll. I know arsenal didn't play well but I fear our lack of movement will get punished next week--finisher

Good morning all, thing that bothered me yesterday was the lack of urgency in midfield, poor work rate and no closing down. Whole new midfield will obviousley take time to get to know each other but there we're fans saying we looked tired? After one game a bit of a worry. Also think some of the lads who played well in pre season should have played yesterday I know also and people on radio city also mentioned this.

it really wasn't that bad. we had a good first half and just need a bit more match fitness. anways didn't Man Utd lose their first game 2 or 3 years ago, to a newly promoted Hull. and they still won the league that year.

Im not too worried about the perfornance yesterday. All I was angry about was the fact that Suarez took the penalty. If you watch him play you will see that his shots are often worse than that of a elderly woman, then sometimes they are better than the best so I knew it was risky business and I dont know why Adam didn't take it. All we need to do it improve chance conversion and that will come in the coming weeks. The title isn't over and done just yet either. Last season United drew their first game and we all know whos record they beat...

Hopefully 21 years of waiting will end this season

We need a right winger asap

A good start, team showed potential. First half was quality but we do need a winger who can has pace and can dribble.

Good luck finding one

Where's Aquilani? is he's leaving for sure?

14 Aug 2011 06:58:46
Aquilani isn't playing and not even on the bench against Sunderland, does the rumors saying that Pool are negotiating with Ac Milan for him is true? Unless he was injured, there's no other reason he was being left out last Saturday

HI eds, when dalglish took over we
started playing nice one touch
football again and at the time
carroll was injured and was used
very little , this allowed kuyt &
suarez to form a excellant
partnership the fact they both
spoke dutch Im sure helped.carroll is
fit again because they paid 35 mill
they have to play him especially
with the owners flying in to see
their BIGGEST investment.so know
we have a very very happy
carragher and c/o reverting to the
old bang it into the middle brigade
and hope for the best or by some
miracle carroll has been transformed
overnight into nat lofthouse john
charles or even Ian st john who all
could REALLY head the ball.so its
going to be a choice of football or
the hoofers and Im afraid the latter
will win because nobody will admit a
35 million mistake so forget the one
touch football.(really hope IM wrong)

I'm I missing something here Everybody is talking about a centre half What we need is some class in this team, it's the same old rubbish At home against dunderland and we don't even look like a Liverpool team King kenny will always be my hero, but he hasn't half bought rubbishe Henderson 20 mill, Carroll 35 mill Short memories, king kenny bought David speedy Let him and Clark coach, but don't let the king buy any more players please Wenneed players that are going to excite We are the mighty reds, and I worry we may be the once mighty reds A miffed Mel piero, hazard

Flanagan got exposed.i like the lad but hes not good enough for us.2xboo

Ed,is it true macca is macca?

ask him if he got his shoes back 10th may at john lennon

Thought the lads played great 1st half & really should of
been out of sight, stop start 2nd half, really frustrating
it took a corker to equalizer, flannagan got slightly drawn inside but there were two on the left who maybe didnt sense the danger...
anyway maybe we all needed to be brought back down to earth...if we had won 4-0,i would of been thinking just give us the league now

Also think the anfield crowd can play a big part...
when i go & you get them long quiet moments it embarrasses me,villa match last season...mind you that was a cold night, never sat on frosted seats before, lfc could do worse than employing loudmouth fans who could start the singing/chanting strategically placed around the ground...theres no better sound than anfield booming & rocking...

great site ed(s)

Did anyone else notice the similarity between Steve Bruce and the Stay-Puft marshmallow man from Ghostbusters? Great 1st half but we faded in the second but I think the signs look good - if we get all players fitter and have our injured back I am still confident of a glorious season.

I'm struggling to understand some people's views and criticisms on here about the performances of Henderson and Flanno. It's almost as if players aren't allowed a bad game now and again. They're young, they'll learn.

It's very reminiscent of Lucas' early days at Liverpool. Couldn't do a thing right for the fans, and look at him last season. More notably is Jamie Carragher. He had a few nightmares in his early days, and look how he turned out. All I'm saying is, give them time, and they'll develop into quality performers.

I think the fundamental error kk made today was too much inexperience on the right with both Henderson and playing. That aside this was a very promising start and Adam and Enrique were top drawer.

Ed, do you think we could report Sunderland to trading standards over the sale of Henderson? {Ed001's Note - *sighs* so a young lad has one game and you have already made your mind up? Good job you aren't a manager.}

The Ngog+£12million+Wilson on loan seems like a very good deal as Wilson will get first team experience at Bolton in Cahill's departure.

Not totally disheartened, although I did worry when we missed the chances in the first half. Carroll needs to sharpen up a lot, and we got frustratingly one dimensional with the long balls once Suarez was taken off. Flannagan made three pretty unfortunate mistakes which resulted in most of their chances. But most worrying is the clear lack of pace in the side when Suarez isn't on the pitch. I really think this will need to be addressed if we're going to make progress. Maybe Kenny will decide to keep Ngog after all?

Guys calm downl, we had a good first half, just need to keep it up and we wont make the same mistakes twice. Okay flanno werent great, but he wasnt poor he just made mistakes that young players make, besides that the back 4 werent bad, just resorted to long balls when we tired, which kenny will work on Postives, enrique player well defensively, suarez had a good first half, and downing played well Most of all Arsenal had a shocker, hopefully with Gervinho and Song suspended :P

Peace
