{Ed002's Note - Exciting times ahead I guess.}

What do you think!

Jesus, some people are dumb.

What are the odds of the lifelong Evertonian Ross Barkley coming to play for his hated and most bitter rivals, sanctioned by that closet Red Bill Kenwright. Hmmm.

If you new anything about life in Liverpool, and the cross city rivalry that exists, you wouldn't even enquire about the possibility of Barkley joining Liverpool.

Some people just don't get it.

Oh, and buy a decent paper ffs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wow wd. What's up with the attitude? So an everton fan or player has never signed for Liverpool? I'm sure there has been many.

Agree0 Disagree0

2002 and 2000 - Nick Barmby and Abel Xavier are the last two to transfer directly from Everton and Liverpool.

Before that we have to go to 1959, its never going to happen not for a player like Barkley.

Agree0 Disagree0

WD is right. It's so silly it's off the scale. Bitters are called Bitters for a reason.

Agree0 Disagree0

Has everyone forgot about carra? I don't think we are even looking at Barkley but you can't slate the o.p just because he mentioned it.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the attitude Davee stems from the OP's initial post. It shows a distinct lack of insight, and respect for Everton, to just blithely enquire as to whether Everton were going to sell their new idol and superstar to their most hated and bitter rivals.

Barkley to Liverpool has been mooted on here a few times in the past also, I recall. It is just nonsense and smacks of a real arrogance on the part of Liverpool fans, no wonder they hate us so much!

Walton mate, Carragher is a die hard Everton fan. Baines is a die hard Liverpool fan. It means nothing in Liverpool. We are not hated and bitter rivals. My best mates a toffee. Only hooligans and ignorant fools think we are enemies. The red and blue sides of Mersey are like brothers. Sure we bicker, but when either of us are in need, the other will be there for support. So stop being silly. We sit together at most Derbies for gods sake.

I'm not saying Barkley will join btw (personally think he's not even as good as Coutinho) but it would not be unreasonable to suggest. Regardless of who he plays for and supports. Did you know Rio Ferdinand is a Liverpool fan?

Agree0 Disagree0

The relationship between Everton and Liverpool is far from one of hate - possibly the only derby in the world with fans sitting next to each other. Fenerbache and Gala is hate, Belgrade and Partizan is hate.

I don't think Barkley will join but some of our best ever players have been Evertonians - including Robbie Fowler - who was twice the player Barkley will ever be.

Agree0 Disagree0

East Midlands, the large majority of my family are Bluenoses, do we hate each other? of course not, but would they hate it if we won the title? absolutely, yes. This is the context I use the word 'hate' in.

Most of the Blues I know would rather anyone but us win the title, in fact, which I fully understand as they will have their noses rubbed in it on a daily basis. As for selling us Barkley, well that ain't going to happen is it? Kenwright would be lynched.

To compare the Carragher and Baines situation to the current Barkley one is nonsensical, there are no similarities. And for the record Carragher 'was' a die hard Everton fan, Baines 'was' a die hard Liverpool fan, they are not any more.

Agree0 Disagree0

Carragher was a kid when he made a footballing decision to join LFC. Barkley is a first-team regular. There's no comparison. He'd find it difficult living in Liverpool if he moved clubs. Most people it's banter. There's more than a few fellers with, let's say, criminal tendencies who would less than politely make it clear it wouldn't be a good career move for young Ross. Gerrard to Chelsea anyone? The Rooney tapes? This is why this story is silly to anyone with knowledge of the city.

Eriksen unhappy at spuds, I would take him in a heartbeat. Come on dagger out your arm around him and use a bit of that persuasive nature u have!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

And if that doesn't work take skrtel and sakho around to his house they can be very persuasive.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ericsson who originally didn't want to move to Liverpool ok so sign him now haha no thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

Little game player, amazing given time, and certainly has a goal in him but useless in battles! Watched spurs vs city at whl, literally didn't get a kick, jumped out of tackles and lost every Ariel duel, even vs silva and Nasri

Here's a relative post for all you number crunchers out there.
Liverpool home record:
P17 W15 D1 L1 F51 A15
Chelsea away record:
P17 W8 D4 L5 F24 A15
So basically what I'm saying is that our so called dodgy defense is just as good at home as Chelsea's so called great defense is away from home.
Well it made me feel better seeing it in black and white anyway lol.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Made me feel a whole lot better too mate lol

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does that make you feel better? they defend as well away from home as we do at home. That does not make me feel good

Agree0 Disagree0

All season our defense has been slated on here and in the press. Chelsea's has been praised for being the best in the league. We are playing at home, they are playing away. The facts are ours is just as good as theirs in this relative fixture. Our goalscoring record is much better than theirs in the relevant fixture. that's why I feel better. We haven't lost a game since December and we have won our last 10 games.
If the roles were reversed and we were playing at the bridge, everyone would be talking about how they haven't been beaten at home etc.
Given our performances at home, it made me feel better that our defense at home is on a par with theirs.

Was just thinking maybe Moses would poss stand in for next game if sturridge is out? That's if Rodgers is thinking he needs pace. Have to say late in the game when Moses went on that run(although losing the ball, hendo tackle etc)he did look determined to run his butt off and I just think he could do a job especially on the counter away from home. Anyway not trying to pick the team and not really saying that's what we should do but just thought I saw a little spark in him for first time in red shirt.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think the fact that Rodgers has started to put him on and show some faith in him (he wasn't getting a look in for a few weeks) suggests that he has really knuckled down and impressed in training.

The kid's only young, with bags of potential, if he could fulfill that at Liverpool then we'd have a really decent player on our hands.

Just a shame we can't use him against Chelsea now that Henderson's out and Sturridge is possibly touch and go.

Agree0 Disagree0

Be ironic if a chelski player helped us to the title :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Bit late in the season to be knuckling down! Doesn't look to have much game intelligence to me. Mid table Prem player at best.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seeing as we have chelsea next week and he would be intelligible vs them, would it make sense to play him?

How good does Sakho look? Can't believe how young he is. Looks a natural leader (know he was PSG captain at 20), looks to be vocal, is physically intimidating yet good with the ball at his feet (though occasionally very worrying) - I think he will prove to be an outstanding buy in years to come. My question: do we stick with Sakho or do we put Agger in for Norwich away?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He was fantastic vs W.ham and great on Sunday, so why fix something when it isn't broken.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seriously? He scares the absolute s*** out of me! Nervy when the balls at his feet. Dives in rash when there's no danger. I don't know what it is but when he's passing he doesn't look like he's kicking the ball properly?
Listen I'm not one of these negative posters by any means but surely someone else can see this and not just me. I like the guy,, I hope he becomes great I really do,, but I would play Agger all day and I've not been impressed by Agger this season to say the least

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Balls at his feet - impressive man.}

Ha ha, so a simple lack of an apostrophe and legends are born.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with u Dbol what is going on with the way he passes the ball?! Weird that! He is a beast and will get Better but I'm watching a different plAyer to the other posters! Weird how players divide fans as my mate was saying how much he loves Sakho today! I guess Lucas had most of us unconvinced for a long time so I've learned from making quick judgements. Can I just check we all agree aspas is rubbish though ;-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with dbol
Agger is a better passer and quicker thinking. A better footballer.
Sakho is physically imposing yes but he seems a bit lunbering and slow to pass/make decisions. Apart from a couple of good flicks here and there but heart in mouth stuff i'd say.
I would plAy agger every time. We look better with him and skrtel at the back
I think sakho was bought as a last minute thing when the miki/costa money wAs burning a hole in our pockets.

Agree0 Disagree0

Im with you DBol.
Sakho doesn't fill me with confidence at all. Like you I hope he settles. And I hear the term 'warrior' bandied about in relation to him - and I also read that he's a natural leader but God knows he looks awkward and gangly to me. That tackle on Dzeko (who was going nowhere by the way) was awful. If Dzeko had been 'streetwise' like Suarez is - then he'd have won a penalty hands down. Dagger for me everytime.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakho looks ungainly but isn't. He's made more clearances than Agger in less games, averages more interceptions per game than Agger and makes 9 accurate passes more per game. Style and substance argument.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sakho is one of those players that lacks technique & he looks awkward on the ball but he's actually by far our best defensive passer of the ball. He was psg captain at 16 I think you'll find too

A very entertaining game in the mini derby tonight. Plenty of legends in the crowd representing both teams too. Kenny Dalglish, Mike Marsh and Steve McManaman for the red side. Kevin Sheedy and Duncan Ferguson for the blues. Colin Pascoe and Roberto Martinez were also in attendance.
The usual hustle and bustle of a derby match was interrupted after 8 mins.
An accidental collision between Evertons Chris Long and Liverpools goalkeeper Ryan Fulton meant the young blue had to be replaced early.
The reds dominated the 1st half and took a deserved lead on 25mins. A fabulous ball chipped in from Texeira found Lussey's run who got his header in before the defender and it looped over the blues stranded keeper.
A fantastic effort in the 2nd half from Everton. They pressed better and passing also improved. The reds were forced back time and time again, relying on counter attacks to get up the field but without the intensity of the 1st half.
Alan Stubbs changed the blues shape with a substitution on 74mins as momentum was starting to move back in the reds favour to 3-5-2. It took until the 85th minute for Everton to take advantage. A wonderful cross from the right found a blue head in the box. It finished 1-1 and on the balance of play a fair result.
It means the reds finish top for now on 42 points.
Chelsea on 35 and Man City on 34 in 4th and 6th respectively are the only 2 teams who can overtake the reds. They both have 3 games left to play. If they drop points in any of their games Liverpool would finish top and secure home advantage at Anfield for the semi-final play off.

I know it's foolish to look past the next game, but how do people feel we will cope with chelsea? They are very good defensively and can afford to play for a draw, not that I'm
Suggesting they will.
With the possibility of sturridge being out plus Henderson will we still have enough going forward to trouble their defenders?

Ed's would there be any downside if we appeal for hendo's red card?
I mean if we appeal and fail.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed003's Note - could be another 1 game added for a frivolous appeal I suppose - but why when it was a definate red would you appeal ? }

So an extra game ban and makes the club look foolish, to appeal something which is cut and dried.
It would be a bonkers thing to do.
Accept the punishment and move on.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah no point in appealing - it wasn't malicious just over enthusiastic which, given the circumstances, easy to understand but definitely red card. We should just accept it and move on - Lucas or Allen can replace him, we function as a team and will continue to function that was in spite of Hendo's absence.

Agree0 Disagree0

I was actually just trying to get a general idea of the appeal system and thought of the henderson incident as a reference.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If it is a frivolous appeal the ban will be increased.}

I thought that although an extra game gets added on there is a time delay to analyse the appeal etc so if we appealed he'd miss 4 games but it wouldn't start next game so he might be available for norwich and possibly chelsea. Is this just rumour

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It seems a pity you just can't accept it is what it is.}

15 Apr 2014 12:20:52
Ed02 I'm fine with the red card and its 3 game ban I watched the game and said he should have been sent off, I was just stating something I had heard about the appeal system for you to say if it were correct or not, I did not expect to be told I can't accept it. I thought most people on here were a little more respectful about posts

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There has been no appeal.}

14 Apr 2014 19:27:05
Right, IF sturridge is not fit for a next few games, would anyone fancy bringing on Allen for Henderson, Lucas for Sturridge, then playing the diamond with Sterling up with Suarez?

Thanks a lot

Believable0 Unbelievable0

14 Apr 2014 19:55:54
I think playing 433 would suit Sterling and Lucas better, personally.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should recall borini. Not sure if that's possible, but it would be great to have options. If Suarez gets injured, we suddenly only has aspas.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen.}

I don't get why everyone is wanting borini back, he's scored a few goals at a struggling team this season and everyone thinks he's good enough to add depth to our squad. Sturbridge lit the league up at Bolton, borini has been average at best. I've not got anything against the lad but I just think there's better options and I'd rather cash in on him and aspas.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hope Borini gets a hat-trick on Wednesday.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think this is a big test on the future of Iago Aspas, if he does not replace Daniel Sturridge then he will be gone and we will find a player who can cover and compete with the SAS.

Are Liverpool one of the clubs under investigation of uefa for breaches of FFP?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not been playing in Europe.}

14 Apr 2014 19:17:11
Hi Eds and fellow Reds

Why do some fans believe we can not afford Lallana or players in that price bracket? Why not? If we get top4 (extremely likely!) with money coming in, we can step up and get the costlier players. Although, I must admit with the fee the Saints would ask for Lallana (£30M) we could probably buy two younger Europeans who would probably do as good a job, if not better. Brendan knows best.
Brendan will go for technical ability, pace and work-rate as well as the right attitude. Easily said, I know.
Personally, I would much rather get players who fit the mould Brendan and his team have created.
Some of our breaks yesterday were fantastic to watch!

YNWA '96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

We've lost quite a lot of money the last several seasons, perhaps you missed that somehow?

CL + add'l TV funding just about takes us back to something nearer to break if we don't spend anything. This would be why I imagine many (including me) don't likely expect to see us spend £30M on any single player unless someone of similar or more worth (which is pretty much just Suarez) were to leave.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2014 19:32:42
We will be bringing in more money, yes.

But our starting point is - £50m per year. Can't just plough all our CL money into Adam Lallana in advance of actually receiving it, can we?

Agree0 Disagree0

I think its time to shed the mid table mindset. A team at the top of the PL table has just one 30m+ player and Saints have one who is worth 30m?
I am sorry it does not work that way.
We will be the champs and our every player will be worth his weight in gold.

Agree0 Disagree0

If we spend more than £15mil on a single player I will be shocked. The budget is tight and sadly cannot stretch to £30mil on a single player.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can't agree with frivolous spending.
We have an abundance of midfielders.
If we sell some and use that money to sign Lallana then fair enough but our recent success has not been down to signing £30M players with half a dozen caps at most.
Lets see if Lallana is pulling up trees this time next season, then he'd be an option.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't worry too much about the money the club is losing, new sponsorship deals + finishing higher in the premiership + being in Europe - and the extra money we will get off our Sponsorship deals for that and the eventual expansion of Anfield will make sure we make a profit.

Also a lot of the money we lost was due to one of the fees - e.g. paying of debt etc.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm still of the belief we need some quality squad players. Let us not forget that we brought in 2 very young boys for the game at stamford bridge, who were WELL out of their depth. With likely Champions league football next season. Fa cups and league cups games, we could be looking at 50+games This is when Gerrard will needs rests.Sturridge may get injured and lucas could do his knee ligaments again. I would certainly look for another solid midfielder who can creat drom deep and tackle. Eds has mentioned he like medel.
It will be interesting to see the out before the ins. Aspas borini may go.
I certainly think we will want to look at 3 strong squad players.

I can see us adding a few really good players in the summer. I can also see a high number leaving also. A lot haven't really featured for the first team this season and therefore think will be moved on to raise funds for transfers.

Think we are still in driving seat to sign Konoplyanka this window and hopefully before the world cup begins. I think he is now in the last 12 months of his contract so his fee should be less than the 14 we were due to pay in January.

With Sevilles money troubles Moreno could be attainable if Madrid don't follow up their interest, and also maybe he'd like to join us before Madrid. I think if we could convince him the 25 million fee wouldn't put us off surely? We also have players such as Enrique, Reina, Aspas and Coates who might interest them.

The other full back I'd like to see us sign is Martin Montoya who's a free agent in the summer. He has huge potential and could possibly be persuaded to sign for us.

The last player I'd like us to sign would be Stefan De Vrij of Feyenord apparently looking for a move this summer, but would cost in region of 15 million. I think with the number of sales this summer from out squad we could afford al the above players.

Ins.
A. Moreno. 20-25 million.
M. Montoya. Free.
S. De Vrij. 14-16 million.
Y. Konoplyanka. 12 million.
Understudy keeper. 5-8 million.

Total. 51-61 million.

Outs.
B. Jones. 500,000
J. Reina. 4 million.
J. Robinson. 2-4 million.
S. Coates. 4-6 million.
A. Wisdom. 3-5 million.
G. Johnson. 6-10 million.
D. Agger or M. Skrtle. 10-16 million.
K. Toure. 1-2 million.
J. Enrique. 4-6 million.
I. Aspas. 6-9 million.

Total. 40-61 million.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why would anyone pay that for Jack Robinson!?

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure 1-2??

Umshud have Ayre's job if u get what your quoting 4 these players?!

Agree0 Disagree0

Frankly, you are living in cuckoo land with those valuations, ins and outs.

Agree0 Disagree0

Overall a POOR post mate. Strikers should be selfish once in a while. Sturridege was unlucky with his touch a couple of time and if he had scored we'd be singing his praises instead of this. I would want my strikers, specially Suarez and Sturridge to try to be selfish and try outrageous shot/skills to get goals.

Are we being a bit nitpicky now that we're on the verge? Hope not!

Agree0 Disagree0

Apart from being a dreadful post, you clearly missed the fact that Montoya has signed a new contract which expires at midnight on 30 June 2018!

Can I have a ticket to your fantasy island, please?

Agree0 Disagree0

So which valuations are way off?

Robinson I would say go for at least 2 million and I put 2-4 million. I think it's perectly possible we can get 1 million for Toure as well.

Konoplyanka was going to sign for 14 million in January surely his valuation has gne down in last 6 months with a only a year remaining on contract.

Moreno will leave for 20-25 million might not be to us but I would love us to get him.

Not sure what other baluatioms you are taking about.

Agree0 Disagree0

We should not let too many experienced players leave in the summer as we need them for our first CL campaign in a while. I see only a few players leaving (mainly people who have not featured at all lately). However, we do need to add quality, particularly in midfield and up front as we cannot rely on a handful of players to get results both in Europe and the league

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2014 21:23:58
Lets hope Konoplyanka's value doesn't go up each time his name is mentioned, otherwise he would cost us 2.4 billion pounds.
( nice that he is rootin for us to lift that trophy mind )

Agree0 Disagree0

Out of all the outs I feel the below have either not featured at all or hardly in last season.

J. Reina.
B. Jones.
J. Robinson.
S. Coates.
K. Toure.
A. Wisdom.
J. Enrique.
I. Aspas.

I only add Wisdom because if we sign both Moreno & Montoya they along with Flannagan for me will be contesting them places.

If both did sign I don't see us keeping Johnson which could recoup in region of 6-8 million.

This still leaves a defence of :

Mignolet.
Moreno.
Ilori.
Sakho.
Agger or Skrtle.
De Vrij.
Montoya.
Flannagan.

Kelly needs a season long loan at a prem club. You could even argue if we signed Konoplyanka also we could sell both Aspas and Borini.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mate we signed Kolo on a free. how are we going to sell him for 1-2 million?

Agree0 Disagree0

Jonesred, just my opinion so no more or less valid than yours necessarily, but here's what I would see happening hypothetically:

B. Jones. 0. (He's not young nor in demand and I think it's unlikely anyone would pay anything or him.)

J. Reina. 4 million. (Probably about right)

J. Robinson. 1 million.

S. Coates. 0. (Coming back from a serious injury so will have minimal value.)

A. Wisdom. 2-3 million.

G. Johnson. 6-10 million. (Probably about right, )

D. Agger or M. Skrtle. 10-16 million. (No idea. I doubt Agger would be worth much at this point due to age and injuries. Skrtel might be in the 10M+ range.)

K. Toure. 0. (No one is going to pay anything for Kolo's services.)

J. Enrique. 2-3 million. (Serious injuries for older players are career threatening and by all accounts treatment has not gone well. I doubt anyone would risk any money on him to be honest until he's played at least a few games.)

I. Aspas. 6-9 million. (Probably about right.)

Agree0 Disagree0

What a game- lost my voice yesteray.
But not just from cheering and singing. At one point, along with a few around me I was going livid at Sturridge for his selfishness.
It it is a problem which goes right through our team. Players looking for individual glory when we have a man over.
I would like us to kill the games off first and then start around after because so far we have got away with it
but sooner or later it will come back and bite us on the arse.
I don't know if BR is addressing this - I even said to the bloke next to me at half time that Sturridge should have been replaced.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree Mate. Suarez & Sturridge have been putting personal milestones before the team for the last 3 games and have played poorly by their high standards as a result. Suarez also doing his anything to win South American tricks because it's a big game. He should have been sent off. Do that again against Chelsea and he will be shown a red. Thankfully the rest of the team are still playing as a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Why does every one always pick on Sturridge? This drives me mad. No one says anything about Coutinho popping off a shot that goes well wide with Suarez on one side and Sturridge on the other. Suarez takes a poor shot from 24 yards out that has 0 chance of going in, no one says anything about it. But heaven forbid Danny takes all of one shot yesterday and he's 'selfish'.

Suarez has taken 136 shots with 29 goals this season, Sturridge 80 with 20 goals. Does this make Suarez selfish? Danny has 7 assists- more than the likes of Lallana, Cazorla, or Mata and the same as Eden Hazard. Does this make him 'selfish'? Just let the lad play his game- he's been brilliant this season and for me I'm really tired of hearing this nonsense.

Agree0 Disagree0

It is the job of players without the ball to provide an option. The player with the ball makes the decision. It's as simple as that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not having a pop at Sturridge. Watch the games back. The pair of them are too interested in their own tallies. I'm talking about Spurs, West Ham & City games.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm with RDL here

Agree0 Disagree0

I wish our players were as greedy as yours, than maybe we can win 10 on the bounce and be 4 games away from winning the league.

Agree0 Disagree0

I actually think our front players are a little bit too greedy in general. The only exception I see is Sterling who tends to have a shot if he creates the situation out of nothing but it annoys me to watch the matches and see how many more goals we could've scored had the likes of Coutinho, Suarez and Sturridge been more generous in their play.

Agree0 Disagree0

LOL, DG.

Anfieldboy, I don't have an issue with pointing out the pair may perhaps not have been on the same wavelength the last few games as I'd say that was fair enough, it's the singling out of Sturridge in particular I was referring to.

Agree0 Disagree0

If you see my post RDI you will note that I said they're all at it
Couthinho had a 3 on 1 but went for glory
The manager needs to get tough on this as we might not get away with it every time

Agree0 Disagree0

I too don't agree with those who had it in for Sturridge. I think he's an unbelievable talent. I stand by my point and most of mates (many of whom go to the games) agree. You are allowed to be critical. That doesn't mean I don't think we have the best forward line in the league. We do. Team comes first always.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rush was destined to be a flop until Sir Bob told him to be more selfish.

Natural goalscorers are selfish, nothing wrong with Danny, just keep banging them in son.

Agree0 Disagree0

Being critical is fair, particularly on forums such as this, Anfieldboy. I just personally have a massive disliking of the 'selfish' label that keeps getting stuck, in my opinion very unfairly, on Sturridge.

Look at Coutinho, for example. Cracking player and love the kid, but he's taken 64 shots this season and bagged only 5 of them. To me, there is a bit of selfishness there yet it's not hardly ever mentioned.

Suarez takes some ridiculous shots sometimes and usually it's just 'what a genius' instead of 'sub him off at halftime' which is what Sturridge gets for his efforts.

Just think it should a bit more even handed then the criticism usually is. My opinion is people have clung on to the 'greedy' and 'selfish' label when it comes to Sturridge without perhaps putting it into context of the rest of the squad or acknowledging the fact that he is generally one of the players furthest forward and therefore his options are always likely to be a little more limited than others.

Saw a pic of the lads after the game earlier and Hendo had definitely been crying. Unlucky to him though, he's not a dirty player and you could see how dissapointed he was in himself. It's a learning curve. He took a heavy touch and rather than go back into pressing mode he just lunged to try and keep possession. He's one of the most intelligent footballers I've ever seen though so I doubt he'll make that mistake again.

Step up Joe Allen & Lucas Leiva.

4 more cup finals! Come on you reds!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It's a shame for the guy and even more so if he shed some tears. What I personally take from it though is through all of the disappointment, BR and SG obviously have created such a tight unit who want to play every second and it's nice to see it meaning so much to the individuals

I know there is slim to no chance but the only player I would be over the moon about getting in the summer if we could, is Adam Lallana. I could watch the fella play all day long, he's class. He has really impressed me this season and its not match of the day fever. He has shown time and time again how good he is. Every time he gets the ball, you get a sense that somethings going to happen. He really needs to be unleashed on Europe and we could give him that opportunity. Done to death, I know. but nothing is certain in football.

We need a left back. Flanagan, firstly, is a right full back put on the left for cover for Enrique, who has been on the physio's table more than the pitch this season and as much as I like Cissokho, he's a good defender, he's just not the attack minded full back we need to play in the system we work, which, I think, is why he's not getting a good rep therefore I can't see us making the move permanent.

I see some people looking another striker brought in. We don't need one. Ok, Suarez and Sturridge can't play every game but Borini is to come back and he has shown, me at least, that he can cut it in the league and with better players around him (no disrespect to Sunderland) he could really make a point. Aspas, may now get more game time with more cup games. He didn't cost £9m for nothing and I for one would like to see a return on that investment and I'm sure he would like to prove he's no slouch.

I think with a few choice additions from the reserves and academy (Ibe, Teixeira, Sinclair and I know he's still young but Ojo is one to watch) we wouldn't need to buy a lot of different players. I suppose that is the point of what J.Henry is trying to do with the club. Produce world class talent rather than buying it.

I can't wait for Norwich, Suarez for a hat-trick anyone? Its Crystal Palace I'm worried about. Some people say that if they are safe by that point then that may be an advantage for Liverpool and that could be true but playing a team that have no pressure can be just as hard as playing a team with the weight of the Premier League on their shoulders.

Man City also have to play Crystal Palace at Selhurst park the day we play Chelsea. Palace are a completely different animal under Pulis and I expect a hard game for both Liverpool and City when they go there.

Anyway, one game at a time.

4 Cup finals left.

EVERYBODY (except UTD fans) think its ours. I would love to see it happen.

YNWA! RT96!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Must say this is one of the best posts I've read in quite some while.
Agree with everything you pointed out except possibly Aspas doesn't seem like a player yet able to adapt to the tempo of English football, so I wouldn't mind sending him out on loan. And also Norwich could be difficult as they looked a reborn side on Saturday although can definitely see Suarez on the scoresheet at Carrow Rd. yet again.
With Lallana thouhgh I couldn't agree more, Flanagan is a right back just covering at left back was on point as well, and Borini's knack of scoring in the big games at Sunderland has formed the opinion in my mind that he's Dirk Kuyt no.2

Agree0 Disagree0

I think lallana is great but we can't afford him without Suarez moving on. If the club thinks Will Hughes is capable of being that good in 4-5 yrs time then I'd rather buy him and a pacy left winger for the same price combined as Lallana. Saints would want 25-30m.

Agree0 Disagree0

Anfieldboy, I'm pretty sure 25m on lallana wouldn't be beyond our reach, however that being said I agree it's unlikely.
We need a winger, a left back and a midfield enforcer. Depending on what players we sell, what youth players are deemed ready and what positions we cover with astute loans, would then determine whether a player like lallana could be bid for.
I like him but Henderson, Allen and Coutiniho are all so young that another 25%-50% improvement out of them next year wouldn't be too far fetched.
Come on 4 more games to go!

Agree0 Disagree0

Tbf 25 million is a fair amount for a player who is nearly 26, and to be fair has had one great premier league season! Totally rate the lad, think he's amazing, but I reckon another option could work as well and be less expensive!

Agree0 Disagree0

That's my point Bacon. We have 5 great midfielders as it is and 3 great attackers. There's a limit to how much we need to spend on any one player when of those 8 players most are under 25 and only one is over 30. Players like Konoplyanka and Hughes for the same money makes more sense and gives us more options both now and in the future. The improvement in the players we have is the key. What valuations would we put on Suarez (80-100m?), Sturridge (35m-40m), Coutinho (25-30m), Sterling (25-30m), Henderson (20-25m). In fact if Markovich is worth 30m add some on to Sterling. And in fact Sturridge can do everything Costa does so add 10m to his valuation. Silly valuations of foreign players in inferior leagues sometimes mask the true value of the players we already have.

Eds and fellow reds, how many more games do we need to win to be confirmed for the Champion's League? How many more points do we need to be confirmed for a top 3 finish? And what is the lowest we can finish now, mathematically? Finally is winning 10 games in a row a new record for Liverpool? Thanks.

He's a story. Around 2 or 3 years ago I was in the corporate area (legitimately) for spurs away the game Skrtel scored in both ends & Lennon got the winner for spurs but all of that is insignificant because walking out to our seats for the second half me and my friend walked past Kenny dalglish talking to another famous face but we kept walking without so much as looking back at the time I'd of been 15/16 & was too scared to acknowledge a man I knew as the king. Around 20 yards past him we both did the bow but my I wish I'd of spoken to him!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

When I was a kid my kid brother played in the same Saturday morning on-the-park team as Paul Dalglish.

It was quite surreal standing on the side lines to watch with the king Kenny, who would be standing on the side line of Anfield later that day.

He gave me his signature once :)

Agree0 Disagree0

He was on my flight once. I was a nervous wreck saying hi haha

Me and the family have recently just moved down the road from Kenny (Hansen lives just around the corner from him also) so my jogging route takes me past both their houses.

I've no idea what i'd say if I ever bumped into either of them, as they were both my hero's when I was a nipper, pretty sure that i'd just bottle it and grin inanely, which i'm sure they are used to!

Hello fellow reds, still absolutely buzzing from yesterday! If we play how we have done in the last 10 games, we will win the title! We should take a lot of confidence and positives going into these final 4 games.

Despite fighting for premier league survival, we have blown Norwich away in recent times, in particular Suarez! I expect to have more of a battle this time round!

Chelsea will obviously be difficult to overcome. However, they have not impressed be at all recently and have struggled away from home in games like Aston villa and palace. Despite mourinho usually getting his team set up well for these games, they only beat man city as they had fernandinho out and demichelis in midfield! Which made it look comfortable!

I would like to th wellink palace wouldn't be to difficult. It usually would be, but hopefully they will be guaranteed premier league survival by then and it could be more straight forward.

Newcastle have been in woeful form of late! And with the atmosphere of anfield could drag us over the line if we don't perform particlary well!

This title is truly within our grasps! One gamesl at a time though, bring on Norwich! Make us dream

what price a suarez hat trick? hmmm.

Agree0 Disagree0

Let's hope Daniel is not to bad! Would be a massive loss to have him and Hendo out!

How would you guys shuffle the pack if that is the case?

I would consider bringing Allen and Lucas in at the side of the diamond and play sterling up top to replace sturridge.

Agree0 Disagree0

I see Hendo as a bigger loss at this time with his hard work and distribution as Luis can be an excellent frontman. Nothing against Sturridge I just think his loss affects the team less.

To all Eds and Fellow Reds

What a great morning, keep checking the table and grin to myself like an person!

I am surprised to read some fans predict Lucas leaving! Are these people serious? Lucas is our most important 'safety net' midfielder! Think back to West Ham, when he moved forward and made the penalty. Henderson will be missed but Allen and Lucas will do what is required. Sturridge, don't know the extent of the injury, will hopefully be fit for the Chelsea game if not earlier.
Like all Reds I'm beginning to believe the dream.

Already looking forward to driving up to Liverpool for the Victory bus ride to shed a tear and lose my voice! YNWA

Watching the game again last night safe in the knowledge we won is a lovely experience. We all know at this stage we are going to win by scoring more than the opposition and whilst that makes for exciting watching it also makes it nerve racking. what do people think needs to happen in order to tighten up the defence?

Every time the opposition have a corner I can barely watch and Mignolet never comes for crosses or comes off his line? Skrtel has been immense and was again yesterday, a couple of those tackles he put in and the goal he scored I had him as MOM if they had managed to keep a clean sheet but once again the defence was exposed as disorganised and frantic. Sakho is a beast but on the ball he makes me nervous and the opposition can see this. If you watch him he can only pass the obvious ball and gets rid almost immediately. Johnson and flanno have both been quality and we all know a LB is being chased but they don't worry me as players it's just the work on organising the whole, unit that is needed.

for me I would be looking to get an experienced keeper in over the summer as i'm guessing there is no way back for reina which is a shame. Plenty around who could do a job and give mignolet competition and someone to learn from which I think he needs in order to match his shot stopping skills. I don't want rid and I'm not panicking because we know he is young and can develop and work on these aspects of his game. At the moment watching the games there seems a lack of communication and confidence and they really need to look at this for the Chelsea game

Eds Who is our defensive coach? And do you agree?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think a lot of the problems have been down to injuries and hardly having a settled back four. When it's been more settled we've won 10 on the bounce. We beat the teams in 4th-8th place 19-1 on aggregate and kept the favourites for the title to less than their average number of goals per game home and away. I know Sakho looks cumbersome when he passes but he hardly ever gives it away. Skrtel has has his best season for the club. I don't think the defence is as much of a problem as people make out. We don't need another keeper either. Migs has had a very good first season. Why waste money and salary on another bench-warmer?

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with Anfield regarding Migs but something needs sorting goals against 42 is not good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Migs kept us in the game a fair bit yesterday. let's not forget Skrtel has been anything but impressive through the majority of the season. (I certainly wouldn't say he's had his best season infact far from it)
Migs will be fine the first season in front of a new defense is always daunting.it doesn't help either that agger and sketel barely talk at set pieces and have huge lapses in concentration

Agree0 Disagree0

Check the stats Bob. Skrtel out scores Kompany (everyone's wet dream) in a host of departments and he's scored more goals than any other centre half. He's had more partners than Jordan and we are going for the title with a side set up to attack. How can this not be his best season?

Agree0 Disagree0

It's his best season for scoring. Not his decision making, takling, ability to play the ball from the back etc. He's shipped more goals than 2 seasons ago. It's not his best season

Ed02. How about this. Who's to say a transfer has to be from one club to another. What's stopping john Henry from talking to a club about a player, settling how much it is to "buy him out of his contract" then getting them to sign for Liverpool. This would by pass Liverpool, and the fee john Henry pays, doesn't effect the clubs outgoings, which loop holes ffp :)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would suspect that Liverpool will try and work within the rules.}

Are you really Del-boy Trotter, Benny?

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah, buy the player out of his contract for £25m and he signs for Chelsea on a free. You can't ensure that a player will sign for you unless you speak to him, that comes with club and agent and player permission. That's when it all becomes a legal issue. Mess about with it and you could end up like Barcelona.

Agree0 Disagree0

The Contract would be between the player's club where henry and not Liverpool and the player so the player can happily sign for any other club because there is no contractual obligation between Liverpool and the player.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Where do you get all of this nonsense from?}

English contract law. you can check it for yourself although signing a player like that doesn't exactly make sense

what a great game today, proud of the boys and can't wait now for norwich and especially chelsea. will be missing sturridge and hendo but reckon we can keep it together and keep pushing forward. the way I see it, BR can play a 4-3-3 with lucas, allen and gerrard in the midfield with gerrard more advanced which excites me a great deal because it will be like unleashing the beast and gerrard obviously still has his wicked shot. I think suarez wil be center with coutinho and sterling out wide, or I can also see BR sticking with the diamond and playing sterling and suarez up front as a partnership, ( SAS doesn't change right haha) and coutinho, gerrard, allen and lucas in midfield. to be honest i'm not too overly worried as I think everyone has stepped up to another level since the beginning of the year and I think we can beat anyone who comes our way. any thoughts anyone?

Ilori was excellent in helping Granada keep a clean sheet against Barcelona on their way to a 1-0 win. Doesn't go to ground often, was keeping pace with Neymar tracking runs (very quick for a central defender) and was there at every opportunity to block.

He has been impressing in the few games he has played at Granada, what are our plans with him? Seems to be a right sided centre back do you think Skrtel will make way or will he play understudy and Kolo will be relegated to the periphery? I don't see the sense in selling him, doubt we would make the money back. Additionally does this mean Wisdoms future is at right back (or to be sold) and what are the implications for Kelly (know you said we hope to see a Flano type situation but will he go on loan etc.?) As Kelly hasn't even been playing for the u21/reserves or been a substitute. Sorry for all the questions!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I really don't see us selling Skrtel now. Maybe at the end of next season, he will leave along with Kolo. BUt I am sure that Skrtel and Kolo will stay with Sakho.

I wonder if we will loan out Ilori for another season, and keep Agger. Then at the end of next season, bring back Ilori in place of Kolo or Skrtel.

Agree0 Disagree0

Logic says the players with two years on their contract and decent value are the most likely to be sold. That's Agger & Enrique. Coates & Cissokho don't have a future so I'd imagine its :

RB: Johnson, Wisdom
LB: Signing, Flanagan, Robinson?
CB: Skrtel, Sakho, Toure, Ilori

I think Kelly needs games after his injury so perhaps a loan and the only other signing in defence would be if Rodgers was worried by Toure's vulnerability. If there's interest from Turkey he could be let go but we'd need a dependable CB to come in if Ilori is one of the four. Caulker? De Vrij?

Agree0 Disagree0

Think Enrique will definately move on (Spain). Have a feeling Agger will as well (Italy). surprisingly I think Lucas will also go (Italy).

Agree0 Disagree0

Enrique might move to Southampton if Shaw is sold. they wanted him in the summer didm't they?

Agree0 Disagree0

Kolo won't leave, he has 1 year left on his contract and won't find a club like Liverpool! He will either then move on a free abroad or retire in my opinion! I think we will sell agger, and bring back ilori, starting sahko and skrtel and trying to bring in ilori for skrtel if possible!

Well my fellow redmen, We can say with great pride, joy, relief and a sense of accomplishment that we have sent a strong and valiant adversary packing with defeat in its baggages back to Manchester after a hard-fought and gruesome battle for supremacy which thankfully turned in our favour. I would like to congratulate the City players, fans and club for the geat respect and touch of class they showed during the service and minute of silence that preceeded the game. They have done honour to us and their club and their show of solidarity and class shall never be forgotten.
As for the game, I think we started very well and put them on the backfoot for most of the first period and as a result, we got a bit tired and this let them back into the game hence, the saves by Migs and the clearances of the line before the half. Consequently at the restart, we started defending way too deep and w/ Silva getting on the ball more and more, it was only a matter of time before they scored and take over the game from there. Afterwards, it was a matter of holding out thru the storm and stay together through it as I posted before the game because I knew that period would defo happen. We got punished for slacking off and City could/should prob have won it based on the chances they had but I always knew we would have one more chance and when it came, we took it. As for the officiating, Suarez could/should have been off because I felt he allowed the City defenders to get into his head and make him lose his mind and that could have cost us. Sakho`s "non-challenge" on Dzeko was not a penalty because he stepped on his head while riding the challenge and threw himself on the ground afterwards. And the Silva one wasn`t either because he and Flanno (who had a good game keeping Navas quiet) literally kicked himself and like Dzeko, Silva also threw himself to the ground. The others were either open to interpretation (foul on Suarez or Zabaleta on Sturridge)) or not seen except thru replays (Skertl handball). All in all, a complete evening out of events, IMO.
The victory was sweet and SG`s show of pure emotion touched my heart to the core. However, we have done nothing yet and like we`ve been saying, we keep calm and take it one game at a time. All we did was gain 3 more points and next week at Carrow Road, we go again and hunt for 3 points as we march on towards what we hope is paradise. RED TILL I`M DEAD!

However our defence can't cope with set pieces. It is a worry when Cyrstal Palace, Newcastle and Norwich will lump the ball forward.

I'm a huge fan of this site ( I read daily) but I very rarely post, but does anyone out there agree with my hypothesis that there is something different about this team this year, where in 2009, when we should have won the title, we blew up. We seem to have a bit more steel about us, a wee bit more heart and a wee bit more, dare I say it, belief. Me big mate always says that Utd won in 2009 because they got a record points. Yes that is true, but we could have got a record if we hadn't t bottled it, this current team though, there is just something different.
