Hottest Derby Di Canio said Geordies v Mackems.?!Not saying Mersey Derby is. But no way is theirs. Boca V River plate seems wild. Celtic v Rangers Mad.

Gala vs Fenerbahce always seems brutal and scary in my opinion.

JFT 96

JP

O. p Yeap JFT96 forgot about that one

Betis vs Seville - bonkers!

Nacional v peñarol, for the size of the country it gets out of control even between players at times. I don't know if anyone saw a few years ago like 10 players got arrested for a fight on the pitch. In uruguay btw

Didn't know about that one poster above

Liverpool should bid for honda because we would get a decent player with a resale value + jersey sales in Japan where we could grow a new fanbase

15 Apr 2013 09:09:44

he is simply an excellent player.
If Liverpool are looking for an ACM, this guy is perfect. would be cheap and will jump to play with us. he has never played for bigger club than Liverpool and neither he is an arrogant selfish,
it would be a dream for him to play infront of the KOP.
cracking left foot, with almost 15 goals a seaosn. for under 10 mill. Buy him. {Ed002's Note - There is a very good chance of a move to Merseyside, but not to Liverpool.}

15 Apr 2013 09:31:29
Ed. If he moves to Everton, Then I would personally go and kick Joe allen.
I know both play in different position, But its the 18 mill we wasted on allen is the sole reason we are not moving for another Midfielder.
He is on curretn situation miles better than the two ACM we have got in Hendo and Allen.

I assume harry watches him week in and out in the Russian league. Or perhaps from some kind of fantasy football game

14 Apr 2013 22:18:01
Liverpool should look at players that are out of contract and they should try and buy
tello
eriksen
williams
richards
and they should keep carrol

ps eds is their any players who definitely have a chance of going to us, cheers {Ed002's Note - As per the posts, sure.}

I doubt barcelona would sell tello.

Just want to say huge respect to Inter for their banner about the 96 YNWA

14 Apr 2013 22:11:54
Rodgers wants to bring in two centre backs, an attacking midfielder, a fullback that can play either side, a defensive midfielder and a striker.

That would be a perfect summer as they are all the positions we need to fill in.

14 Apr 2013 21:35:38
All of us are frustrated to get two consecutive stalemates but spare a thought about BR, how gutted would he be for not getting two well deserved wins. tactically he was brilliand but sometimes I fell our players lack that motivation.
I would love someone coming in as a coach/mentor who would talk to players personally or with the team as a group and instilling them with pride to play for LFC. someone like sami hyypia, terry mac or phil thommo.
Players thrive on confidence and it took BR 6-8 months to make players like hendo and downing to have a glimpse of their potential.
Also I believe BR is trying to find gems like our no 10 and might be in a mission to keep suarez and build a team around him and a few early signings in summer might be able to persuade suarez.
LIVERBIRD

Agree liver bird said same for AGES. Some one who motivates by not least letting them know what's expected as a Red player. Thommo, Aldo required

Tactically brilliant? BR?

Behave! Have a word with yourself!

15 Apr 2013 07:38:22
third poster:
so we had 20 odd shots in our last two games could have scored 5 in both games and restricting opposition to 1-2 half chances. surely that was tactically brilliant wasnt it?
LIVERBIRD

Liverbird tactically brilliant v Reading who ship goals and we don't win?!

14 Apr 2013 21:29:00
Eds what do you think Re-Unite skrtel and agger at the heart of the defence and just sign erikson and replace GJ with martin kelly whos allot more solid And that will be Liverpool sorted?

Er not quite

14 Apr 2013 21:27:37

just a few points:
- Agger : many people don't give BR and his staff credit for keeping agger fit. this season he has played more games than any of his previous seasons and has been quite consistent as well.
GJ : the weak link in our defence. just strolls around giving ball away and running into people, misplacing long balls and often conceding needless fouls. also is very slow coming back and is often caught napping leaving carra to cover up for him and agger to deal with the other runners coming into th box. A perfect example of my point being the reading chance. pogrebneyak ran past him, carra tried covering and this led to a decent chance. I'd love BR to drop hime for a game or two and starting a youngster ahead of him to wake him up.
Midfield: I'd love gerrard to play deeper role because of his reading of the game, strong tackling, stopping a runner, long shot and of course 40 yard passes
and hendo/suso must be given a more free role behind forwards LIVERBIRD

I posted around a year ago that I would have dropped Gerrard into Lucas's position and sold him while his stock was high and was shot down by the so called experts on here, our back four would be well protected and he would chip in with the odd goal, even from a DM role.

Waro

Waro, I've seen that suggested before and in my opinion it's a ridiculous option.
Gerrard is getting older, slower and less effective however he still only looks like the world class midfielder he has been when he plays in a more attacking role.
To play him defensively is simply a waste

I wouldn't sell Lucas Waro but agree Gerard can do a great job in that deeper role - just don't think he can be the box to box player he once was - he can be effective in that deeper role or equally effective in an advanced role but not both anymore - am torn myself lol on the one hand watching him ping 40 yard passes all over the pitch is a joy but the man can chip in with goals too and his link up play is class. I would prob go with the deeper role but would still like us to go for a decent defensive midfielder too.

But the so called experts were right. Gerrard has not been dropped back.

I didn't say he would be dropped back Mr AP, I said he should be!

Waro

Gerrard has many attributes and is a fine player, but he no longer has the mobility to play DM.
I believe he could have played anywhere in midfield in his career thanks to his talents. But he was always best in an attacking role so that's where he played most.
The time has past for him to play DM. At least on a regular basis, I'm sure he could provide cover. But I doubt he will like that.
I posted about Lucas not so long ago, he is too good to sell or drop but is sometimes ineffective against physical opposition. I think we need to bring in cover/competition for Lucas and someone who will make the likes of Stoke and everton weep.

MIKEY

Only the unintelligent would think selling Lucas and dropping Gerrard to a defensive role would improve the team.

Yesterday was incredibly frustrating. It seems the players mentality is the issue, not their talent. If we don't get a goal within the first 25 minutes heads drop, and they expect it to be one of those days. However we have had too many of such days recently. The Reading goalie was very good, but some of our finishing was terrible. I'm not a big Carroll fan, (although he should have been given a chance by Rodgers), But the lad offers something different. I would rather have him than Borini, who's second touch is always a tackle. Which leads me to the point that we have no alternative during games, we have no way of changing a game or our style of play, and I don't like that.
One thing is for sure though, our away fans are the best away fans in the country. The result wasn't good enough yesterday, but I had a brilliant day out. I never thought I would have a steward stood next to me at a football game stopping me from doing the conga! It was mental.
JFT96
Smithy

If your name was malak smithy you would have 20 agrees to your post! The sheep on this site need a clown to look up to and malak seems to be said clown.

Keep keeping it real lad, don't let the be**ends on here stop you from having your say.

Waro

I'm a massive believer in the psychological element of the game. I believe the instructions yesterday were to hold station for 15 minutes then go for the lead. I also believe we carried out those instructions but they didn't pay off.

There's been plenty of games over the past nine months where we went all out from the start, frustration set in and then we got caught in the second half.

Whilst I don't see yesterday as a triumph at least that pattern was broken - when Reading had their spell "50 -65 minutes" we were still fresh and able to first defend then counter.

I know loads of fans on here keep seeing the "oppo goalkeeper" argument as a cop-out but I honestly think that we witnessed one of the best keeping performances of all time yesterday. Some fans said too many shots went at him, some that they kept putting them at a good hieght to make him look good. The simple fact is he was amazing - we should just take yesterday on the chin.

Lol Smithy, can just picture a conga line!

Totally agree Waro doubt this Malak ever been to a game-utter plantpot

Pathetic Waro and one unnamed poster, having a dig at Waro for no reason whatsoever. Smithy shared his experience and his opinion and you two shipheads have to have a dig at Malak. Clearly, you contradict yourself, you say well done to Smithy for his opinion blah blah and then slate Malak fort his opinion.

Ag wow ship heads-Constructive and intellectual well done dohhhhh

Mr no-name, thanks for the compliment. If I were to be constructive and intellectual in my replies, people like you wouldn't be able to understand. had to break it down for you as you clearly missed the point I made. Perhaps reading and understanding is not your best talent?

Hi Ed, just wandering, is there any truth in the rumour that a scouse red supporter might get to one of our games in the near future? We seem to bend over backwards to cater for our Irish/Scandinavian supporters, I have to watch every game on line or in a pub, I appreciate the merchandise sales these supporters bring, but aren't we forsaking our roots for them?

You are one seriously ignorant person. i'm from Ireland and have to spend roughly 500 euro to watch a game which without being in the know is seriously hard to get a ticket for. I spend a seriously long time hunting down a ticket for a reasonable price as I refuse to pay a travel companies inflated price.
Maybe if you spent less time moaning about how us foreigners have it so easy, then you might be able to get a ticket. Some of us weren't fortunate enough to be born beside the club we love, but we don't complain about it we just carry on supporting our beloved club and enjoy any chance we are lucky enough to get to watch a game. Don't start this again, especially on the eve of the 15th.

for BR to get the sack, Liverpool would have to go on a run of disastrous results from now until next crimbo. So to the ones who want him out, what Liverpool FSG C games do you go into hoping we lose so you can be right? the mind boggles

I'm not a fan of BR, but no true LFC supporter goe's into a game hoping we get beat, to say that is just madness, I would LOVE BR to prove me wrong, I really would and I bet any other supporter would, it's an insult to think just because some of us didn't think BR was the man for the job we don't want our team to win. This SUPPORT THE MANAGER AT ANY COST. is the politics of the school playground, we as supporters are allowed to voice our personal opinions. One strange thing I have noticed is that out here in the real world I cannot find one person out of all my friends and family who think BR is doing an outstanding job, it's only on here I come across this opinion so it's nice to come on here and get a more balanced view of things.

14 Apr 2013 20:14:30
We fans fights to the bitter end. We use to say "next year", now we say "next year we will reach top four". A huge revolution we need. Is BR the right one? The new Shankly? Hope so and think so. This season needs to end

Our season ended months ago so relax.

We've been average for years and under BR/FSG nothing has changed.

14 Apr 2013 20:12:57
Just a quick question, I'm a relatively young red and was just curious about how ferguson looked during his first few years. The go to fact when questioning a new manager seems to be that it took him 6 years to win a trophy, so I was curious (being too young to have seen it) how his team looked for those first few years? After the first seasons did it look like the time was progressing into something special or not? Was basically wondering how long it took till it looked like he was taking the club some where

To long a post to go into lad, but he spent shed ( and I do mean shed ) loads of dough so they sort of had to stay with him because of the investment they put into him.

The fans wanted rid after a few seasons and let him know it ( banners at the game etc ), but after Atkinson they were rudderless and in our shadow so as I said they put all there eggs in one basket and had to stick with him until his position was untenable and it almost was until Mark Robbins popped up. He would have been sacked without that win and then cup final win, so it goes to show that evil can overcome goodness!

Waro

This is a bit of a myth that has grown legs. It took him 3 and a half years. He finished runners up in his 1st full season, had 2 very poor league seasons but won the FA Cup in hos 3rd full season and then went on from there winning at least 1 trophy a year for several years. The crises came from some very poor results early on, including losing 5-1 to City

AJH

What is a bit of a myth in my post AJH? If it's my post your repling too.

Waro

Waro, I swear some disagree with your posts before reading them lol - spot on with that one though

Cheers swallybean, I know they do which is a bit sad, I replied to a lad asking the best way to get tickets the other day and got 3 disagrees straight away ha ha!

Hi ed's what are the chances of the manager persuading carra to play on next season. I thought it was certain that carra had made his mind up about retiring, so why is the manager trying to change his mind, is it due to lack of finances. {Ed001's Note - nothing to do with finances, all to do with Carra playing well and being the leader on the pitch we need.}

If he got offered two year contract (need not play for two)-defensive coach or another role 2nd year) Think he'd stay on

Carragher is done and past it, and too slow now for the Premier League. Time to move on. Sending him around again next year would be a massive, massive mistake.

Maybe true Brisbane but he leads and organizes rest like sheep quite and follow one another ba ba ba ba

14 Apr 2013 19:21:26
The manager will listen to offers for, skrtel, coates, downing, Carroll, assaidi, borini, flannaghan and shelvey, as he attempts to sign players of real quality in the summer.

Think he, ll hold on to downing

When I see posts like this, especially about the likes of Downing, Shelvey and Henderson even, my thoughts are that I want a better more 'experienced' SQUAD overall! Downing for instance, would be a great bench player/odd PL match/player for cups, so why would we need/want to sell to get someone better for his position, it just makes our bench/squad stagnate! I suppose he would have to accept this role, but I would if it meant staying at Liverpool, but suppose I'm biased! Am I right or not, as I don't want us to end as a selling club, we're too big for that?

14 Apr 2013 19:19:41
Aftre 33 games so far this season we can conclude what we miss. Besides some luck also a 2nd top striker next to Suarez. Sturridge is not the answer. Maybe as 2nd fiddle like Wellbeck has at Utd. To play for the title we need a 2nd topstriker, topdefender next to Agger, a top leftback and a top rightwinger. Maybe also a top central midfielder. To get those players we need money. But we don't have that kind of money. So. end of story! We just have to settle for maybe a top 4 finish or the European League (wauw. ) the coming seasons.

In other words, we need money for top players but we don't have that kind of money. We are 90 million in debt. So we can discuss about players whatever we want but as long as we don't have serious money (and I don't mean 25 million. ), we can't compete with big clubs for big players and so for the big prizes.

With all respect to the people who think that players like Ben Arfa, Eriksen etc will make us title contenders, they won't.

Ps: Suarez will leave. This guy wants and deserves Champions League football and we just can't give him that! It's as simple as that!

As a Liverpool fan it hurts me to tell you this but unfortunately it is the reality we live in! I'm not saying that I know everything but I Always ask mmyself one question. Why is it so that clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munchen, Man Utd, Chelsea, Man city (the last 3 years) Juventus, AC Milan playing every year for the leaguetitles.

Maurice

14 Apr 2013 21:48:25
Ian ayre said from now the club will be running by debts their is no other way the club can run without champions league, you can find his interview at Liverpool site, so don't be shock if debts start increasing.

Those players will make us top 4 contenders! No one said champions! To be fair man united are way ahead of every team in the league and the gap will probably widen in the summer.

14 Apr 2013 19:13:26
It's good to see big Andy Carroll getting into some good form at long last. it's a shame the manager has no faith in him at Liverpool, as I feel he brings something completely different to our other forwards. If he is to leave Liverpool permanently then his recent good form in front of goal will hopefully add more value to his transfer fee, although either way we will take a massive hit.

Your right, our other forwards don't get hammered at the pub on a weekly basis. AC does not have the dedication and desire required of playing at a club like LFC.

He doesn't suit the system! He will be a great player for some team but that team won't be Liverpool.

He's carp bad attitude also. Not notice only now when future uncertain ain't injured and working harder?

I would keep Andy, he is different to what we have and would offer an alternative when the tippy tapy doesn't work which has been the case against many sides.

Why sell him for a fraction of what we paid only to buy another average player to fill his boots.

14 Apr 2013 19:05:15
That Millie Clode from sly sports is luvley! Don't tell my mrs!

Yeap mmmmm

14 Apr 2013 18:15:52
just making my thoughts public here so feel free to disagree, seems to me LFC went downhill when they abandoned Shankly and Paisley's philosophies and training methods, (boot room etc. ) and of course KK's retirement did not help, since the old boot room was demolished so Liverpool have not been the force they were, the actual game hasn't changed that much! still kicking a ball into a net, we have declined slowly, like the Roman Empire (LOL), but we have declined, fat cats in suits spending huge money (what would Shanks say), some fans believe BR offers hope, I hope they are right, but we are still mid table, even after spending millions, so, did Kenny deserve to be sacked? surely he should have had another season, just like BR supporters are shouting that's what he should have! and has he improved the team? BR's fan club quote the team is younger, and the wage's are lower, but wasn't that part of FSG's remit? the biggest problem has been spending money on the wrong players, or panic buying i. e. (Carroll) I think with the right signings we will improve, but I don't think we can do it on the cheap, I am NOT anti Brendon, although he was not my choice, so, good luck Brendon Rodgers, you're going to need it, let's wait and see who you sign. then we sack you when it goes pear shaped LOL!

Roy Evans was a boot room product -after the ill-fated GS experiment - it just wasn't working under him. I've never shared the love some fans have for GH but it was clear we needed a change in philosophy. Who moving up behind Roy could have really made it work again?

GH and Rafa had sucess - not the level we wanted but they did. Neither put in any sort of legacy/succession planning. At least BR is doing that.

14 Apr 2013 22:25:08
Nope you need to find more about our history, the club were super successfull by following Shankley philosophy and boot-room, from shankley till kenny who was the last member from our Hierarchy to manage us, we were dominating and winning titles infact we were untouchable, everything went wrong when Kenny resigned and we started looking manager from outside the club instead of within the club and appointed Souness who was our past player but had left for celtic and had no connection with the club, from their our downhill started and then we continued appointing managers from outside the club and success became less and less, our biggest mistake was to break our tradition and appoint manager from outside who brought his own philosophy to run the club instead of appointing within the club to continue the philosphy and success which was working for us.

Look at Barca they appoint manager within the club instead of outside which is supper successfull like Liverpool of old, once you break that and bring a manager from outside barca will implode fast like Liverpool, because new manager brings his own ideas and plans where manager within the club knows exactly what is needed to continue the success.

My billionaire is bigger than your billionaire!
Good match though at Wembley.
Mata looked done in, and they've got another game in midweek before us.
The format for that Europa League is all wrong.
UEFA need to up the prize money by about £15m for getting to the latter stages because it's a slog fest for next to no financial reward as it is.
The Juicer

If you up prize money you create an elitiest set up where the next tier falls further and futher behind.

I went for a walk this afternoon.

At least the north and south plastics are successful unlike you has been reds.

Missed a good game then:)

Well said above post the red men need to face facts average club at best

Sorry but Chelsea and man city will never be bigger clubs than Liverpool. They might have some recent success. by buying it. but look at them this season, how much money have they spent this season since last summer? And there's a good chance that neither will win jack this season!

You might be higher in the league but Liverpool will always be regarded as bigger club!

Biggy Ballz

15 Apr 2013 00:15:10
Biggy Ballz you need to wake up and face reality, today Liverpool won't be counted in top ten world best teams that's how Mighty Liverpool have fallen, Liverpool are finished club whose fans are still living in past and very scared of living in present, when was the last time Liverpool even finished top4, that's more then half a decade, I repeat more then half a decade, when was the last time Liverpool won a league title more then 23 years and still going on that's how mighty Liverpool have fallen.

Liverpool is a midtable club who have got history rather then present same as forest or leeds or everton etc.

History don't help or neither wins you title nor brings you success or else Forest or Aston villa would be big clubs then Arsenal after all they have won european trophies compare to Arsenal haha!

Liverpool days were over long time ago same as Leeds or forest etc, only Liverpool fans tend to think how big Liverpool is same like forest or Leeds fans, other club fans keep on laughing at Liverpool fc and it fans for continuing living in past instead of present.

EH NEXT SEASON HAHA

14 Apr 2013 18:01:05
With Juventus, Bayern Munich & Real Madrid all set to make offers for Suarez in the summer I think we just might see Luie leave.

Just like to say though no player is irreplaceable, BUT the money that we do get for him would have to be spent wisely. and not on players with silly price tags like 15m for a player like Allen, 20m for Downing or 35m for a player like Carroll "JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE INFLATED FUNDS".

Who could blame Suarez for leaving LFC? We're midtable and mediocre.

14 Apr 2013 18:00:38
Best game I've seen all season chelski v city quality game end to end all game great advert for the fa cup fair play to both sides JON96

One hope for summer is that we do our business early. If as likely, we're not getting into Europe then our players will have a good long break. We can focus fully on pre-season, without any early Europa distractions. We need to start next season with a bang, every fit, confident and raring, which has been lacking in recent seasons.

Does anyone know the situation with Micah Richards at Man City, is he injured or just very much out of favor? I think he could be a really good option for us to pursue for cb position. Would cost between 10-18 million I reckon but knows the premiership. Any thoughts on this?

McB {Ed001's Note - injured.}

Hes an awful CB but a great RB

Still not getting this Richards love in. waste of valuable money, would prefer Alderweireld from Ajax and Diakite from Lazio, that would probably cost 10m less and would be less mistake and injury prone!

Do you really think they would come? I'm sure they have ambitions? So a move to Liverpool would be out of the question!

14 Apr 2013 16:29:11
Paisley used to say "be modest in victory, gracious in defeat" (Notion lost on Taggart) But got me thinking-We have had (like their Manager!) MOUTHY Geordies ridiculing us on here last Season and this (earlier on) And Spurs Fans (admittedly better than us last few Seasons) Telling us how Great they are. Look at Geordies today, AND Spurs out of Uefa, perhaps out of Top 4. Surely a message for everyone to Remember Paisley adage, including Us! Football can change very quickly.
Also "The change quickly'maybe AIN'T happened YET at O/T but it WILL when Taggart goes. And be Great when rest of Country's fans shove their fans arrogance down their throats!

Taggart will see off wee BR like he seen off Benitez and Dalglish.

Yes I am a big lfc fan but we shot our selves in the foot when we told man u fans to come back when they had won 19. ynwa

For once I wasn't THAT apses Utd won. Titles there's sadly, and if it means Anti Football Thug Stoke F. C go-Alls the better for quality in The Prem. Rather Villa and Sunderland stay up-Both better styles, particularly Villa

14 Apr 2013 16:07:28
I know he plays for City, but I can't help but love Aguero. Great attitude and great player, just gets his head down and does his bit for the team. Love him to play alongside Suarez, for us obv, not for City!

Yep, good old ken. What could have been.

Nice tackle he just did then wasn't it?

He'd play for us if we'd offer enough money. Just another Fottie bitch.

14 Apr 2013 15:50:39
I'm starting to think Brendan has good ideas, pace, movement, imagination in our play. BUT HE CAN'T SEEM TO MOTIVATE PLAYERS. AND he HAS to accept this is U. K-you earn right to play-he MUST blend The Borrowers with some Steel

14 Apr 2013 14:55:03
With the new fair play rules coming in do any of the ed's think we will see more swap deals?
Thanks guys {Ed001's Note - doubt it.}

14 Apr 2013 15:08:39
Regardless of him as a Man or views-How good value is Di Canio?-Fantastic passion and celebrations for Sunderlands goals.
Merely and only Passion wise- (NOT ADVOCATING AS MANAGER FOR ONE MINUTE-before some of you start!
WISH Brendan showed an eighth of guys passion. We wouldn't look so demotivated at times. And dare say wouldn't turn in likes of Southampton and West Ham performances

14 Apr 2013 15:05:44
Just want to reiterate what I said yesterday, we were really unlucky at the Madjeski, on another day we could have had four or five, we're making progress under Brendan, granted it's not as rapid as many of us would like but let's all hope we can finish the season strongly and raise some money from player sales, get some loan deals arranged for our young guns and most importantly get 3/4 quality additions and a couple of exciting youth players. With a full pre-season behind him and hopefully a good start to the season, I expect Br and the lads will be much better next season.

Ok Reds just for debate who would you take for 1st eleven. And some maybe squad Out've following. (Or not at all)- (opinions please and why)-Michu, Benteke, Samba, Shawcross, Gutirrez, Sessegnon. Just bit of debate and fun Ed

Id take michu Benteke and Shawcross in a heart beat because they score goals good players english i. e shawcross and add depth to the squad

14 Apr 2013 15:45:40
Michu - yes all day long - one of the coolest finishers I have seen.

Benteke - yes - faster version of didier drogba in the making

Samba - maybe, not certain on his abilty on the ball but he's definitely somebody I would want in my penalty area

Shawcross - no

Sessegnon - no - moments of brilliance but the majority of times has no composure, can't control a ball and no end product.

I'd take benteke the lads big and physical and young plus 15 goals in his first English season is pretty damn good.

Benteke for me.

The Irish Rover

I'd like Shawcross - don't think he'd come to us.

Michu - this season's form is amazing but the price would not justify the gamble - happy to pass.

Benteke - Not for us, let's see what Borini is like through pre-season then decide if that other striker is really needed.

I want to see the defence strengthened - two centre halves and a left back - or 1 of each and a right back with a view to seeing if Martin Kelly is ready to step infield.

Shawcross would come if the thugs go down lol

Michu the only one I would want.

Who says Roberto Martinez is not doing well with a poor Wigan side with little or no budget? Selling their best players always, scraping past relegation and in a Cup Final. He deserves a better club.

14 Apr 2013 17:16:48
Managers like martinez tend to do ok with midtable teams once they get chance with top team they massively fail, hodgson comes to mind and many more, managing midtable team and top team is completely different, the pressure, expectation, mentality and spot-light is too much for them to deal, I even don't remember in 15-20 years any midtable manager have gone to establish himself as top manager or has achieved a Cv that can be compared to top manager in epl.

Poster above agree-usually!-but think Martinez could be exception

That doesn't bode well for Rodgers then, with that reasoning, not saying your wrong, more worryingly your right.

A sure sign of bitterness that is

Why bitter?-Utd sing disgusting songs about us every game often provided by Everton. Chelsea horrible arrogant club and fans. Millwalls fans yobs. Stokes players and fans yobs-Fact!

Its not the players as One100 sadly suggested. It is deluded fans like you that have fallen for the Rodgers hype. Its the manager at fault.
I bet under a experienced Manager the players would thrive. A more experienced manager would not buy Borini, Allen, Sashin, Alsaidi, or Sturridge. none of which have any sell on value and have shown what bad judgement Rodgers has.
Tatically inept and does not know how to change a game. How we could have done with Andy Carrols height this season at times.
Rodgers needs to step aside.
Stay on as a number 2 and learn the ropes of managing a club like LFC.

Please somone enlighten me in how we have improved so much on last year please?
I don't want the answer 'better passing' etc etc.

We've improved the wage bill that's about it.

How is it the managers fault? Explain it to us all, how can the manager put the ball in the net during a game? Simple answer is he can't! It was obvious for all to see that the tactics prepared by the manager were spot on because we dominated the game but couldn't get the goal we needed! It's fans like you who haven't got a clue about football at all, people like you are never happy until your crying on here about us not winning! Hang your head in shame and grow up

James

More points?

Of course mate, the players would thrive under a more experienced manager, you do remember Roy Hodgson don't you? Perhaps the Sunderland squad would agree with you as they were thriving under Martin O'Neil weren't they? How much managerial experience did Jose Mourinho have when he took over at Porto remind me? And of course the King had loads of managerial experience when he became the player manager at Liverpool back in the day didn't he? My point is experience does not guarantee progress or success, Liverpool are a team that has suffered over the last 4 years, we can't expect BR to deliver a quick fix given the constraints he has had to work with, could he have done better sure, but we should be encouraged that our defence is looking more solid even though we are playing with a defender on the verge of retirement, we'll end the season with more goals than last year and more points than last year, the average age of the team is pretty young, young players are getting more of a chance under this manager, our wage bill is looking healthier, and the team are playing attractive football. We have to stick with BR for another season before we can pass judgement on him properly IMO.
DT

You're asking for BR to be given another season before judging him, so why did that not apply to Kenny Daglish? all he really needed was a top center forward.

You can add pep guardiola to that list DT barca was his first first team job.

Good shout Kumber, and Red George Dalglish's handling of the Suarez/Evra affair and Liverpool's dismal league performances post Xmas were the main drivers for his dismissal, particularly after the huge outlay on players. I love the King, but his name was not on the lips of the majority of fans when a replacement for Benitez and Hodgson was sought, it was a soft appointment by the owners in terms of their thinking that the appointment of an icon would unite the fans, which it did, however if you look at it in the cold light of day, legendary figure aside, he should never have been appointed after being out of coaching for so long. Having said that he did remarkably well to get us to two cup finals, don't get me wrong I love Dalglish but at the time I did not think it was a long-term solution. He still is and always will be a Liverpool legend for everything he has done on and off the field for the club.
DT

Red George, why didn't KD buy a "top centre forward" then? He bought Suarez and choose to waste 35 million on Carroll. Also, he did have a full-half season to implement his style and like DT replied, his dismissal was down to his handling of the Suarez/Evra affair amd pathetic form towards the second half of season.

This post is not suggesting we bring back rafa. It isn't.
But I've seen some posts saying how bad he's been at Chelsea. And this is simply not true.
When he took over, most people would agree that 3rd would be a realistic ambition to finish, they weren't going to displace Utd or City. Chelsea are 4th, a point off 3rd with a game in hand.
Chelsea are also in the FA cup semi final.
They are also favourites to win the Europa league and rightly so they are playing well.
Many said he was also brought in partly to try get the best out of Torres - Torres has scored 19 goals this season.
All I'm trying to say is Benitez is doing well at Chelsea and I don't like to see LFC fans badmouthing a man who deserves a little respect from us.
Thanks

Rafas had awful abuse. And his family, threats, in fighting, Media stick and to come through where he's got them is fantastic

That's a fair point puzzled, I'm really happy for him, he's a great guy and his heart is in the right place, I would not want him back though for a variety of reasons, I'd like to think he will be forever be remembered with fondness after the memorable 2004/2005 season.
DT

Do you think he's done enough to have a shout at being made permanent?

MIKEY

Do you think he's done enough to have a shout at being made permanent?

=======================
No And for his own sake; I hope he does n't get the role permanently. The Chelsea fans don't deserve him, they still shout abuse at him.
Roy

Mikey - I love Rafa but some of his decisions were insane. The most insane decision he could make would be to accept an extension to his Chelsea contract.

He's bought back a bit of credibility after a poor end to his reign with us (compromised by owners) and a short lived spell in Italy (stupidly took on the owners).

He should happily leave Chelsea showing he is a safe pair of hands for top teams - places like Ajax, Dortmund, Lisbon or Galatasary are his likely next destination.

Not match of the day fever here but I have hadmy eye on alex mccarthy all year and has been very impressive every time he has played. I said I while back we should get him.

Anonymous woolback

Fair play if that's the case woolback, he played like a man possessed yesterday, simply outstanding, I don't know how goalkeepers tend to have the game of their lives against us with alarming frequency!

Some thoughts on transfers for our defence:

Lets assume that Skrtel and Coates were to leave in the summer (along with Carra's retirement), which is all likely to happen. I've heard the idea that we could bring in up to 3 CB's as like-for-like replacements? I don't think that's necessary at all.

Everyone agrees for one long-term partner to Agger is vital, a top player who we invision playing every game alongside Agger for the rest of next season and beyond. I like the Alderweireld links, a right footed CB is essential for a strong partner to Agger. That's why I'm not a fan of Williams as he's played on the left side of the CB position his whole career really (and I don't rate him personally).

Kelly's recent injuries are down to his positioning as a right back, as his body isn't used to bursting forward as a wingback, he's not a wingback he's a CB. If he were to play as a wingback for the next few years his lower body will be crippled. He's a good player who should be a CB.

Then there's Wisdom who should be recognised for rarely making a mistake in his debut season. Once again, he's not a wingback he's a CB. He's done excellent playing right back, and I would be happy to see him challenge for being a CB next year.

And if we then bring in a player who can play at CB and as a DM, then I feel this is all we would need at the CB position. Here I would love someone like Wanyama who I feel could provide excellent competition to Lucas, and is full of potential. So then our central defence would look like this:

1st choice: Agger, Alderweireld/Wanyama
challenging: Kelly, Wisdom

. with Wanyama only dropping from a DM to a CB if needed (injuries/loss of form). He's been excellent as a CB for Celtic but of course its very difficult to analyse his ability there as he's against such poor opposition in the SPL. I like his versatility a bit like Javi Martinez. For example a partnership of Wanyama/Agger with Lucas in front would be solid.

I'd also like to see another wingback brought in for cover and challenge Enrique for his position. I know I'll get abuse for this, but I could see Brendan looking at Taylor from Swansea who is a very underrated defender. There is no harm with Enrique and Taylor challenging for the LB position, as Enrique (whilst he's on form now) is too inconsistent and needs competition. Taylor reminds me of Steve Finnan who was a favourite of mine.

That's the reason why I only feel we need 1 top CB for next season, we don't want a situation like Coates who never gets a game because there's someone ahead of him, and Kelly and Wisdom are CB's at heart and never wingbacks. A Kelly/Agger partnership would also be great also, I hope Rodgers has faith in our defenders coming through or else they'll never achieve their potential.

Again yesterday we missed chance after chance to score at least 5 goals. Not taking anything away from Reading goalkeeper who possibly had his best day in football career but when you look at his saves most were hit high and with pace. Not many were placed along ground, which in my opinion is harder for goalkeeper to save as they have to go low (being played as goalkeeper I can tell from experience) and there is more chance of ball going under body and hands. Only time he was truly beaten was Suarez chip. Finishing let us down along with his brilliance and players must take responsibly for that. Again its very debatable whether we have improved under Rodgers as results and league place speaks otherwise but we all can see that we are playing very good football and I believe we don't have like for like on bench so we can't force subs and change results as we don't have any super subs for example Gerrad, Suarez can't be rested. Team needs 2 good players for each position to challenge for CL and until we have that it will be hard. let's show Rafa next week what he has been missing and bring positive result for us.

Harry Oldbury

I agree with most of your post, but were one place higher in the league than last season, and have 5 games left to get 5 points which will take us past last seasons point tally. I think this shows fairly well that we have improved under rodgers.

5 points?!-with all the signings?-wow!

But isn't the one place higher, more down to Newcastle having a fluke season last yr and punching above their weight. He hasn't improved us that much we were unlucky in a lot of games last yr. The managers full of himself, I can't stand him.

What a great post - I hadn't noticed that our failure to capatilise on scoring 5 times in a game was the last piece of the puzzle, let's break it down a little more.

Liverpool have managed to take the chance to score 5 times in a game 4 times this season - I'm not sure how many times they have had the chance and hadn't but let's be generous and say it's 50/50 - they've played 8 games where they could have scored 5 times (for argument).

Manchester United - run away league winners and later stage Champions league side - scored 5 goals in how many games? 0.

Arsenal - The side that just can't afford silver polish - scored 5 or more 6 times - that's helped their season hasn't it!

Defending Champions - City - 3 five goal hauls - one in cup competition.

Spurs - None

Chelsea - 7 times

Conclusion - by the new measure of how many times a time scores five we're back in the UCL and Utd and Spurs are going to the Championship where their brand of footbal belongs. Well done Chelsea - great season!

Hi eds. Who will Liverpool sign as their next manager if Brendan Rodgers gets sacked? {Ed019's Note - Jose Mourinho obviously. No, Brendan Rodgers will not get sacked anytime soon, so there is no point discussing it}

So eds is that a hidden message that mourinho is willing to sell alonso, Ronaldo and iker to his best mate rodgers. Yes can't wait

Heard from a club source that BR will not be sacked, but reigned in and under the control of a director of football. Who? don't know.

Poster above that should've been case initially and if he refused as said he did-got someone else

It's Rodgers mouth that needs reigning in more than anything.

There is no way on earth that the massive change in footballing philosophy BR is trying to instill could have worked with a DoF.

My personal opinion is once a DoF is in situ a club is saying that the Manager/Head Coach role is a revolving door.

As a club we should know more than most that two Leaders only equals division.

The only scenarios I can see where a DoF and Head Coach set up becomes sucessful is once these partnerships move around clubs similar to Manager/Assistant partnerships.

At worst I see them as a way Boards/Owners instill a set-up where blame can always be placed away from themselves - it used to be a Manager saying an Owner hadn't back them or an Owner saying the manager had promised more with the resources provided - that battle is now one rung lower than the board room.

Hello fellow Kopites,
What do you make of Rodgers so far?
I personally like him as a manager. He has made some mistakes along the season be it with team selection or substitutions but they will surely be eliminated as he goes along. He has made a number of our underperforming players such as Henderson, Downing, Enrique play well. IN SHORT I RECKON HE IS THE RIGHT APPOINTMENT & WITH TIME WILL COME GOOD.

But now moving on the player recruiting end. If it is true (which it may not be as it is mostly reported in trash papers) we are looking at Ashley Williams to replace Carra especially at the reported 12 million I would really be disappointed. He does not necessarily have to look at players he has worked with, there are hundreds of Quality players abroad.
So I reckon if we manage to bring in a quality DOF or any other professional who has good knowledge of players all over Europe would really take us to the next level.

A blagger of the highest order is what I think of him.

Ed001, obviously we all want Xabi to come back, but, do you think it would be a good idea?

Cheers

ToonRed {Ed001's Note - yes and no. Yes, he is still a great player and would improve our midfield. No, he is simply not what we need. Overall I would prefer to spend the money on what we do need, rather than Xabi, much as I love him.}

When you say not what we need, I assume you mean more of a tough tackling defensive mid?

Do you happen to know if Xabi is doing his coaching badges? Would be great in a future coaching role

Cheers

ToonRed

14 Apr 2013 12:50:17
spot on ed.

I really loved Xabi but would not want him back. At the moment him and Gerrad cannot play together as both almost perforn the same function so it will mean either playing him or Gerrard.
So would rather take the money and spend it on Etinne Capoue who we desperately need. I genuinely pray everyday that Rodgers somehow realizes that we really need a strong CDM.

I'd love him back, but in reality that's a heart over head move. He would instantly improve our team, but would still command a decent fee and high wages. If we'd qualified for the Champions League and had that income then we may have gone for it, but we haven't and sadly he won't be coming back.

Papa G {Ed019's Note - Imagine what it would be like for Allen and Henderson too?}

Imagine what they could learn from him it would be a grate move especially with Rogers style of play

Allen and Henderson won't learn much sat on the bench mate. Alonso will keep them out of the team.
Henderson has improved greatly this year, no doubt playing in his preferred possisition a lot more is one of the main reasons. Why would you take him out the team again?

MIKEY

I agree with you Mikey we need to keep Hendo in the side and let him develop, but it isn't going to happen.

A lot of people struggle to look for positives, as I also do at times this season. But one huge positive I wanted to mention is Coutinho. What a cracking little player he is. He's got such good awareness, grace and intelligance when he plays, he's a joy to watch, he really is. I'd hope if he can add goals to his game, with his his other attributes he can go on and achieve great things for club and country.

If we can persuade Suarez to stay next season and buy a pure number 10, who has a goal threat as well as some potent passing in the final third then we might start to become a strong force against bigger teams and find a little bit more consistancy against the little teams. I know the defence and strength in midfield first needs addressing, but I think that it's potentially down to coaching/rotation.

I mention rotation, as I strongly believe that Wisdom possibly McLaughlin and the returning Kelly and Robinson have enough ability to compete for starting positions. Johnson to me looks completely knackered and in need of a few games out, which Kelly or Wisdom could comfortably fill in for. Enrique needs focus and if that's competition then great. We need players fully focused on each game, not just feeling safe and comfortable that an average performance keeps your place each week.

Sturridge and Borini both strike me as players that once fit for a sustained period (Sturridge doesn't look overly confortable to me), can become strong squad players and really list the burden off Suarez for goals. The two wide players also need to help with this, as Downing for all his diligence and work rate, doesn't threaten the goal for me. That said he did make a difference and adds more balance to our side. Personally I'd hope to see a fit raring to go Sterling compete there next season. At times this season he's been electric and with Suarez, Coutinho etc we need a little more pace and directness, which on that side he could offer.

I know we're a work in progress, with an awful long way to go and big summer ahead to start next season bright, fit and raring to go. We can become a force once more, we're not a million miles off competing for top 4. But we need to change our mentality and attitude. Suarez even if not on top form, busts a gut, he works endlessly and shows his desire. We need more of this and our fortunes will change more quickly than you might think.

Papa G

"buy a pure number 10"? Coutinho IS wearing number 10

Another rational and controlled response Papa G, I find your posts mightily refreshing amidst all the knee-jerk Brendan-bashing.

Havnt posted on here for a while because in my heart of hearts I knew that despite the odd win against poor teams it would be the same old story. However, the frustration has boiled over.

The league results are there for everyone to see, out of the cups to so called lesser teams (one from a lower division), out of Europe, One the whole the new signings from pre season and January not making the required impact. I could go on and on.

Most understanding and intelligent fans will understand that transition periods for teams can be painful and we have to accept that to a certain degree.

BUT. this is what is the worry is and is unacceptable: BR has turned the coveted LFC manager role into a 'spin' role trying to blag his way through the obvious and ridiculous limitations he has as a manager. His PR attempts have been outrageous - suggesting that the team have been 'outstanding' and 'fantastic' when clearly they have not been.

His remarks about finishing second and then more recently suggesting that not being in Europe is a blessing - is he for real? what about the missed financial opportunity, and more importantly the blooding of young talent in the competitive arena to develop them (was this not what he was employed for?). So being out of Europe also has an effect on the clubs following, sponsorship and merchandise sales. If you are not there people will not know you exist! In the past LFC has had a world wide following because of European heriocs - now apparently our leader thinks its a blessing not to be there?

A decent amount of money has been spent on players by BR. Whatever the excuses, Allen has not delivered and nor has Borini or Asaidi (injury blah blah accepted). The January buys have shown possible potential but not yet delivered fully either.

Sahin left obviously under a cloud and stated 'thank god I got away from Rodgers' or words to that effect. He has performed well since his return to Germany. An insight into BR's methods?

I'm not going to list LFC's bad results but it is obvious that other teams KNOW how to handle LFC under BR as his tactics are unidimensional and he cannot change the course of a game. BR also stated that the second half of the season was the business end (still don't understand that!- don't think Man U take that approach - hence success). So Brendon we have 5 games left with 2 points from the last three (against teams we should beat). explain!

REALLY REALLY look at it. The question has been asked repeatidly. have LFC improved? In my view a catagorical NO NO NO. if I am wrong can someone quantify and qualify it please.

BRs spin is leading this club into a downward spiral as it is designed to reduce and lower the fan's expectations. its seems to be working on some. If this continues and combined with the effect of players like Jamis C retiring and Stevie G coming to the end of hid career. we are going to be in freefall - another Aston Villa in the making.

I said this before and it still stands. settleing for mediocrity now is foresaking our future. I think unfortunately with the spin some fans are settling for this.

FSG let's see and hear you now please as the unrest is simmering.

we play better football. and some fans are happy with it.

Oh how sad some people are that they can't see the bigger picture

Cheer up mate.
There are plenty of positives from this season, all your doing is focusing on the negatives.

MIKEY

I can understand the frustration but I think your being a little harsh. Rosgers basically said it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we don't qualify for europa so we can focus on the league which I understand the point given the fact our squad is on the small side personally I would use it as an opportunity to play our youngsters.

After having cup runs last year this years focus was on the league so the cup early exits doesn't bother me.

Our performances have been good especially since january with rodgers signings doing well I disagree with allen being a poor signing

We are two points off the tally from last season and are likely to add to that so on that basis we have improved.

Come on mate give BR some time, when he took over our team was rubbish. I agree he's summer buys haven't made the impact he/we wanted (again it takes time but look at what people said about Hendo last season) Allen & Fabio will come good next season.

Have we improved under BR? Yes Yes Yes Yes!

We're playing some of the the best football in the league, look at the amount of chances we're creating each game you can't blame BR if our current players aren't putting the ball in the onion bag!

We are 2 points behind last years total, 1 win in the next 5 games and that is improvement.

As for the cups you can not cry about it both ways. You want us in cup finals and to blood players along the way.
Teams go with young players at the start of cups comps to see if they have what it takes. If you win the game it's a bonus, if not you look at the players and any possatives you can pick out.

We went out to Oldham was it. We played a young squad that lost just cause they do not play in the prem does not mean we should beat them with our 2nd team. Should we beat them with our u21 or u18. Where do you draw the line?

We lost to Swansea's first team with just a couple of our first teamers on the field so what have you got to moan about.

13 wins in 33 games out of all cups that is not good enough.

Seems like being a media pundit is more important than coaching for br.

14 Apr 2013 11:01:33
Just 5 matches left - no chance of Europe - no chance of relegation. Any chance of some of the younger players being blooded?
DM2013

Kenny did that in the last 10 games and got the sack for a poor finish to the league.
derryred.

Hello, derryred. I think that if you look at the teams for the last ten matches you'll see that the only changes were caused by injury. I am not suggesting a complete overhaul but I do think that some of the youngsters - Ibe, Texeira, etc should get (at least) a place on the bench and should be introduced during the match whatever the score!
DM2013

I do agree with you mate, and I would love to see the younger players blooded. Obviously as well Kenny didn't only get sacked for the end of the season, there were obviously other reasons as well. Like I said I agree with you, I don't think we have much to play for so perhaps we can blood youngsters, but I also understand why Rodgers is refraining from throwing them in.
derryred

I agree DM. Maybe not starts but at least cameos and spells on the bench so they can get a feel for the atmosphere and the pressure ready for next year when no doubt they will get used a bit more.

MIKEY

Kenny started playing the young players in the last 10 games?

Where on earth are you even getting that from? What are you even talking about? No he didn't,,

14 Apr 2013 10:58:17
Seems like br needs to get on the training field instead of goals on Sunday. He should be sacked

14 Apr 2013 10:50:53
So we drew because Reading's keeper was man of the match? What is a goalkeepers job? To save shots, and guess what, he did his job. IF you want to score, you have to make sure you don't give the keeper a chance. Its no good relying on the opposition keeper to not be up to standard.

Hounsred

EXACTLY FELLA

14 Apr 2013 10:40:28
A good point to ponder and have opinions about? Are we a goal scoring threat from corners? Seems like we have not scored a headed goal from corner all season. For opposition, giving us a corner is much better option than letting us play possession football.

Regarding Reading game, disappointed like any LFC fan but anyone slating BR should understand that he can't get on the pitch to score himself.

There were enough shots on goal, saves, possession etc to understand that direction of our journey is right but destination is still some way!

Indian with Red Heart

For years now we seem to have been very poor at attacking corners, and at the other end poor at deffending them. Under Raffa this was put down to Zonal marking, but in reallity it was long before him and since him.
Carrol seemed to help at both ends, I know he nevre got the goals he should have, but he eid seem to pose a real threat at them, and help at the other end.
Statistics might prove otherwise, but who on here ever really thinks were going to score from one? and who like me allways thinks were likely to concede from one ever time?

I'm not saying we should right it off but even the best teams only score 1 in 10 or so. derryred

I think for a lot of last season our scoring rate form corners was less than 1 in 50- don't know what it is this season, but it has to be more than that. I hope lol.

That's the answer

On a different note from the game yesterday, with Ed023 saying LFC info is now kept 'in house' in regards to budget and transfers, is it fair to say that recent speculation in the press about Brendan being given £20m for the summer window is BS? I'm curious as genuine info has been few and far between on who we're interested in, so was wondering how the press has managed to get hold of a lump sum figure for transfers?

JFT 96

JP

Probably no more than an estimate from the press. I'm not sure many clubs work on a budget type system.
More like you identify how many players you need, see who's available, then go and grovel to the boss for funds.

MIKEY

Yeah you're probably right Mikey, I suppose they're working on an assumption based around the January transfer window. In all honesty I'm not overly concerned with the amount we have to spend, just that it is spent wisely.

Keeper wasn't that good yesterday, all the shots where right at him. Made a couple of good saves, as expected of a prem keeper

Its no coincidence, that we turn up and reading have a good game, we just ain't that good, not clinical enough.

How many straight defeats have they had on the trot? We turn up and they get a point.

Now don't for one minute think i'm a BR out fan, I don't blame rodgers. The players are very poor. We need quality all over the pitch, and I don't see us having enough bunce to do it in one more window. Gerrard did nothing untill last 10 mins. Johno poor again.

Come on pal surely there keeper deserves some credit.

Credit for doing his job? Even suarez half voley was right at him ffs. you lot are clueless. absolutely clueless

14 Apr 2013 09:49:33
kenny's two cup finals, european football qualification and one cup win, plus moving us from 16th to 7th in the league not looking so bad now eh FSG?

and all in the year when gerrard was injured for half of it, and suarez was banned. it only really went pear shaped after the suarez incident, otherwise we would have finished even higher

I was all for keeping Kenny in charge myself, but where does making that sort of comment get you? Rodgers is in charge now, and making poor comparisons with past managers is utterly pointless. Get over it and you will sleep better.

Managed to get tickets for lpool v chelsea. am in the main stand, turnstile s/t. Looks close to the chelsea end, but ain't complaining. first time in the main stand, usually get tickets for the kop or centinery.
Anyone go in the main stand, got any tips? Ta

Tips? Ffs-turn up at correct turn style via info on ticket and get in-sit down. i'm Season Ticket Holder but all your doing is saying to others who can't get a ticket-that your going. Pointless post

2nd poster: are you ozone or waro? Was a genuine question, as I've only been to anfield 5 times in 34 years. I've been in the kop 4 times and the centinery once. Think your the one saying that your a season ticket holder, which is near impossible for most. Wanted info about where the away fans are, if they are ever allowed in the main stand etc. Thanks for nought. Ill stick to the lfc website from now on

Hi op, the away fans are in the Annie rd end in the corner with the main stand. There are some hard core Liverpool lads in that main stand corner having banter with the away fans. The same applies to the Annie rd end, where I sit.
You need not worry about the away fans entering the main stand, lfc have stewards all along the section between home and away fans.
Overall enjoy the game it should be a great atmosphere it always is against the chavs. And Raffa comming home should make it special.

Phooey.

Nice one lad, much appreciated.

14 Apr 2013 09:48:40
our squad should be pushing for a top 6 finish. compared to the two mancs, chelsea and arsenal we don't compare. we maybe rival spurs in quality and depth and i'd say we look better than everton on paper. taking that into account we lie behind 1 team that we shouldnt. realisticly what more do we expect?

i think the football we play is superb. we deserve on performances alone to be higher up tje league, I think br is the man to make us great again. but nothing hets away from the fact that our squuad is notgood enough for automatic top 4. do we have great potential? yes. with a few signings this summer and keepi g our best players and a better start I think next year will see us really push on. keep the faith! just a little side note. if wed kept andy caroll this year would he have been the game changer we need off the bench? I couldn't think of a better LUMP to throw on and mix things up a bit!

Rodgers has no place at LFC.

Short stints at Watford, Reading, Chelsea U18's and a inherited Swansea team does no way qualify him to lead LFC.

Hope he can prove me very wrong. but I doubt it

If rodgers goes we are still left with the same poor bunch of players? It is the players that are poor not rodgers, wake up you utter tool

Small club manager with low expectations. He will get sacked by the end of the year.

14 Apr 2013 09:35:45
After watching match of the day I was really impressed with the Reading keeper.
Ed any chance we could put in a sneaky bid?

Thanks Brad.

14 Apr 2013 10:22:08
BR did work with him, so maybe he can come to replace Jones in the summer.

Malak

One game! He ll likely be slite next week!

14 Apr 2013 09:34:53
Really think we need a central defender if not 2
A central midfielder someone with power and pace
And a striker

We have suso and coutinho who I think can take the attacking midfield role in couple of years

We need a strong central midfielder someone in the mould of viera

We have stirling and ibe for the wings they just need time which we must give we could do with one quality experienced winger

Mainly a striker who does not mess about with chances someone like hernandez would be perfect but maybe borini can step up nxt season

We need 2 seasons I reckon to get back
In to top 4 and challange for for major trophies

Dont want williams as he is not brilliant in the air he switches off a lot and just another average player we should not spend money on

We need to give kelly or wisdom chances for the middle and need to invest on a young cb
Hope we can find a varane lol

Im for one if we got 45 mil for suarez and he wanted to go I would let him I think he deserves to play champions league football and we could do with investing big in summer,, I would love it if he stayed but he will leave soon I reckon

Basy

14 Apr 2013 11:31:49
We need a strong central midfielder someone in the mould of viera

Al the team above us are looking for such a player for thier respective team.
how on earth are going to get the real quality.

Glad people waking up at last to what's required in midfield. Its been overlooked for too long

You know what I also don't like brendan but I would be lying if I say the team isn't in a good place right now. if you want to criticise the team its fine but don't always say it when the team is not winning.

This season there are only a couple of games where you can actually say we were really poor, the rest we have played really fantastic football. Liverpool as a club our problem has been consistency for the last couple of years, can you imagine we have not won 3epl games in a row for how many years?thats just crazy.

Brendan is our manager and he has made some mistakes like any rookie manger would his signings have not been great but you can't say as a team we have not improved. in our last we have won 4 drawn 2 and lost 1 That is good form to me. the only reason we are not in top4 right now is how poorly we started the season. I think he deserves another year then if we don't make top4 I would personally call for his name on this page
KUNLE

"consistancy problems over the last couple of years" try over 20 years mate

14 Apr 2013 09:15:46
How strange.
After spending over 120 mill over the two years.
we still are left with a bunch of kids and midfielders in our bench.
where did the money gone?.

14 Apr 2013 09:41:21
Ask Kenny Daglish and Comolli!

BR is still working on correcting their and Rafas mistakes!

By the way Lucas new contract is less than his previous one!

Malak

1-2 years and them "kids" will top quality, plus with more "kids" coming through as well.

FowlerGod.

35million pound is on loan at west ham.

14 Apr 2013 10:07:12
36M - Carroll (loan)
20M - Downing (first team)
16M - Henderson (fringe)
8M - Coates (on his way out)
3M - Assaidi (probably on his way out)
12M - Sturridge (first team)
22M - suarez (Suarez)
8-10M - coutinho (first team)
16m - Allen (injured)
11M Borini - (injured)
1M - Yesil (youth set up)

Thats roughly 150M. Over a fifth of that amount is andy carroll. there's only two players in that list that I believe will be going, 2 are injured and one isn't ready for the first team.

Im getting very annoyed listening to your negativity.

Calum Red

And BTW if you think Football Manager is a realistic game and you think what you do on their is even 10% close to reality you are 100% wrong! Take it from someone who has been working on FM with Sports Interactive for over 10 years, its just a game and fantasy is the best word to decribe it. Even though its the most realistic Football game in the world, the way the game is designed we know 95 % of the players don't play it the way it should be.

-Most players sell their "crap" players to teams with huge transfer budgets that they take over themselves. Completly Unrealistic.

-Most players take over other teams to buy players who cost 30m for 10m f. eks or even for free. Completly Unrealistic.

-Most players make loan to buy offers to players that would in reality cost 40m and would never be available on loan and have 10 teams wanting them, but they take over other teams that want the same player so that player ends up in their team because their are no other offers. Completly Unrealstic

-Most players save the game after each game, reloading the game if an injury or a bad result happens!
(how nice would it have been for BR to reload some of the games this season we completly deserved the 3 points? or reload so allen doesn't play 5 months with an injury or Borini doesn't break his leg and break & dislocate his shoulder)

PS. (Even though I just work in player search in Scandinavia and north Africa) I think both Joe Allen & Fabio Borini are very highly rated in the FM 2013 version Scousser, try them out ;)

Malak

Malak i'm not sure what hole you poped out from but BR is useless. He has spent a lot of money on rubbish. Allen is worse than any player kenny bought. How about sahin, Borini could not get in most championship teams. He has one tactic and no plan b. He is not good at changing games at half time he is a small club manager.

Br has compounded our problems i. e allen etc

Malak strikes again biggest talker of carp ever been on here. And what's a Scousser?

Malak {Ed001's Note - until you can learn to stop being an abusive little knob, don't come back.}

Eds my question is that we are currently at second place in fair play list. and arsenal is standing at the top. now if arsenal get cl place then will that europa place from fair play list b given to the 2nd contenders that is us?
Thank you {Ed002's Note - We won't know which countries will get the places until mid May and no table has been published for Europe or England for a while.}

Straw and clutch-is this what we have now become?!

14 Apr 2013 09:24:07
I'm starting to doubt Brenden. I've never wanted him out the door but tbh I'm not sure about him after the last 2 games. Why is he not changing it when it's going wrong? I don't see the point in having Lucas on for the last 15 against the team rock bottom of the premier league. I'm not slating Lucas because he's a good tackler but he's never contributed anything in the final third and I'd of thrown Shelvey on instead and just flood the box like United do.
I'm with the majority of the fans when I say give him time, but as far as I can see if we are still languishing in 7th towards the end of next season with no improvement and struggling against the bottom clubs, he has to be sacked
DBol

I don't think Brendan had the power to take their keeper off yesterday. that was all that was going wrong.

How sure were you of him when we were winning?now after 2draws you type this crap. how can you say there hasn't been improvement which team have you been watching all these while.

Yeh he had a good game but Liverpool made him look better. If we simply put the ball in the corner he wouldn't have had a chance. When Coutinho drilled one an inch wide and when Suarez free kick clipped the post the keeper was nowhere in sight.

Poster above your correct but the-I'm a bigger fan because I won't criticise even if we where in conference merchants are out today. Problem with them is-their exactly what Fsg and other club owners want-people with zero or low expectancies who pay 850 quid without any ambition shown by club in future as their return. It let's all carry on blase

14 Apr 2013 08:51:44
If you sack rodgers at the end of the season (which i'm not saying we should) then who do you bring in?

we are in no better position than last year and finding a manager was hell your going to be looking at managers like martinez and martin o'neil can't see the owners turning to rafa are they really going to do a better job than rodgers?

bear in mind the fee to get rid of rodgers and hire someone else money that could be spent on improving the squad

we are better off just giving the manager our full support no matter how hard it is me included!

The Bayern manager

Keep Brendan Rodgers!

I don't know Jupp Heynckes maybe. He won't be sacked anyway but if we are still clueless next season he's as good as gone.
This season has been shocking. Out of all cups, 7th in the league, finishing behind Everton, Mancs winning the league before Christmas, won only 1 BIG game vs spurs, Oldham away and Carra retiring. No wonder its silent at Anfield, most players at the club and the ones we are being linked with are talentless championship clowns not worthy of our famous shirt
DBol {Ed002's Note - Guardiola is replacing Heynckes in the summer. Heynckes has already turned down one job and it looks very likely his future will involve some consultancy and some down time.}

Rafa Benitez

Chelsea, Newcastle Everton Fulham QPR
Last games of the season really we should be looking to be winning our last 4 games however I think its highly unlikely that we will

Id say we will get 11pts from the available 15pts.

Chelsea - 1pt
Newcastle - 3pts
Everton - 1pt
Fulham - 3pts
QPR - 3pts

We are so unpredictable! We will win the next three and lose the last two

Beat Chavski beat Newcastle draw with Everton-Then we will all get aroused again and players will gob off in media-Cos they've read own hype in press/-this is in practice 23 years-doesn't come overnight-were consistant at that if not else!-all the brainwashed on this forumn will come out, THEN!-Lose/draw at Fulham get beat comfortably at Q. P. R-It's called THE Liverpool Way!

Fellow reds, time has come for us to all except that this once great club is not now nor never will be great again.
Say what you will about near misses, great goal keeping displays or hitting the woodwork more then anyone else.
The simple facts of football is you have to win the matches to get the points. By hook or by crook, one way or another the ball has to find the back of the net.
Over the 30 odd years I have been a fan we have always had the passion and desire to ground out wins from impossible positions, coming back from being behind is a trait of a great team, sneaking a 1-0 win from a bad display is a trait of a great team.
taking maximum points from the teams at the bottom of the table and the result showing the difference in class is a trait of a quality team, sadly over the past few seasons we have shown very few signs of being a great club.
Now more then ever we go into games with little to no fear factor even at home we are no longer assured a confident performance against the weakest of opposition.
Slowly as each poor performance goes by a little bit more of the gloss is removed from our clubs glittering past and we edge nearer to being a sleeping giant.
Everyone who takes the time to read and post on this sight hopes and prays that at some point we will awaken with the fire and passion of teams gone by, but if we are honest those days are long gone and under this current manager there is no sign of a resurrection of the shankly spirit.

When Jamie retires at the end of this season there will be 1 burning ember of our passion left.
Steven Gerrard has for many years been the torch bearer for what is right and expected by players at our club, but for many years now we have failed in the transfer market to identify players who would come in and settle and except their share of the burden. Hardly any have become dyed in the wool reds and once Gerrard is gone we will be left with a team of players who don't have any connection with the club in their hearts.
We have a few young players like Kelly, stirling and wisdom who look like they may have a future but if we have a manager change at any point in the near future they could be lost in an avalanche of new signings.
Our end of season is in danger of being as bad as the start of the season. The few wins that looked likely have failed to materialise and now we face a few games that will really test us.
Hopefully we will respond well but what hope is there when you fail to beat Reading, West Ham United and Southampton.
Sturridge was looking like he was going to fix our failure to convert chances issue but that seems to have petered out and we are back to not being able to win without Suarez.

Fingers crossed Suarez hits the target over the final few games and we collect afew wins to keep us within touching distance of the top 6, if not we will finish the season where we probably belong and where we may have to get used to calling home, Mid Table.

Nail and head

Good performance Poor result happens time and time again. Say what you will but at the end of the day we are in 7th looking closer to 8th than 6th behind Everton no cup run as an excuse, another disappointing season.

Lets face it at the start of the season top 4 was the target however we all felt that was a little bit unrealistic but we have to be finishing in the top 6 surely.

With the history and resources of the club we have to be finishing higher than everton they spend less than us we have the better team just no excuse for us not be on more points.

On Reading; I have to say I think we got what we deserved the finishing was not good enough 90% of the shots were hit right at Mccarthy we were complacent poor concentration.

Is rodgers the man for us? Ask again later

14 Apr 2013 08:57:02
good post.
most here have already made wigan goalkeeper the unbeateble.
95% of our shots were straight at him.
not even one single shot right to the corner.

You mean Reading!

14 Apr 2013 13:11:09
we will be in top 6 look at the games everton have we will be above them after we beat them at anfield spurs 5th chelsea 4th arsenal 3rd the 2 mancs that's how I c it panning out. Tommy Irish Red

14 Apr 2013 08:01:40
Why would Suarez want to stay in this very average mid table, low ambition team, led by a manager who has no pedegree, no experience and little knowledge of how to change a game.
I said at the time we bought in Sturridge it would be a waste of £15m. How right I am. Unfortunatley he has picked up all the bad habits of a prem donna at Man City & Chelsea.

A change of manager is required. The outgoing Bayern Munich Manager would be ideal. Look how he has taken a very average Bayern to champions and CL.

Suarez will not be at LFC next season. Why on earth would he. No improvement on last year.
The money he will generate will only be put into young untried personel. and look at Villa. that's where we are heading sadly.

Sadly, a few stints at Watford, Reading and Chelsea u18's is not LFC quality and will not push LFC back up the table.

Rodgers can go, should go. FSG had more success under Kenny, therfore the axe should fall soon on Rodgers to protect there investment. No European football for LFC will damage investment and LFC standing as attraction to top players. Therefore a quality manager with experience and pedegree is required to progress this team. Rodgers could stay on as a number 2 to gain the experience.

You know its true.

There is one fact that Suarez was a major culprit in missing chances or playing badly in our last two games. If he is honest with himself he will say he had a stinker against West Ham and was wasteful against Reading. The fault lies with the manager. Once again he could not get us motivated to go out and beat a smaller team. We never looked like we needed to win. The game was such a stroll for the lads they played like ' we will score in a minute' mode. No killer instinct no desire to finish as high as possible. All stems from the manager. In all fairness the reason is because we have too many boys in our team not enough men. We need bigger stronger players ones that can handle a tackle. As skillfull as he is Coutinho is too light weight at present. So don't expect too much from him.

Slowpoke

14 Apr 2013 09:08:15
wasted 30 mill on allen and sturridge, if used wisely we would have been for the top 4.
may or might not come good next season. who knows. and then. next season. and then. another season.
4 years back. we were shouting and screaming for the bright future ahead. and today. we are still optimistic about the future.

we are actually not in transition right now.
come summer if Suarez leaves. we will surely be the so called transition

check how much arsenal miss RVP this season.
podolski + giroud + gervinho + walcot = RVP

Have you thought Rodgers is picking up the pieces from Kenny's bad buys.

Stop bloody whinging get on with it judge Brendan next year.

14 Apr 2013 09:34:54
None of your post is true. Average Bayern?

LoL

Neur
Lahm (Boateng)
Badstuber
Dante (VanBuyten)
Alaba
Scweinsteiger
Martinez (Guztavo)
Kroos
Ribery (Shaqiri)
Muller (Robben)
Manduzic (Gomez)

All these players off the top of my head and they are average? that's BS, all negative fans on here are deluded and make me sick. We are a team rebuilding, and I hope FSG learn from their mistakes (I. e, listen to moronic fans again, and stick with their plan)

Did anyone expect top 4? then sorry for my french "DELUDED"

Aurelio, Kuyt, Maxi, Adam, Carroll, Bellamy, Aquilani, Cole, Doni. We haven't replaced half of these yet to be a real competitve squad! But we will, and when we do then you can ask questions! How is Chelsea or Man-Utd in transition?
Chelsea won the CL last year, and they had an ok squad! they "lost" Kalou, Essien, Bosingwa. Players that almost never played and the only player they really lost or miss is Drogba, but the bought in Eden Hazard, Victor Moses, Oscar, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marko Marin and Demba Ba. Chelsea squad compared to last year is much much better.

Man-Utd, they "lost" Berbatov, Ji Sung Park & Pogba.
(If you count Michael Owen as a player they lost or needed replacing well, watch the races instead. )
They bought Van Persie to replace Berbatov, and Kagawa to replace Pogba, Hardly a change in the squad, if anything its much stronger Quality wise. Also A. Fergusen spent around 11 million pounds on Nick Power and Buttner but the never play and also 15 million or so on Zaha.
The only team close to what we went through is Spuds loosing Modric, Van der Farts, Kransjar, Corluka, Ledley King, Gomes, Pienaar.
They replaced those with Lloris, Dempsey, Vertongen, Adebayor, Dembele, Sigurdson, Caulker (back from loan)
They have a similar transitional season to be honest although they replaced almost each out, but still no improvment what so ever on last year for spuds, in fact they are in 5th with less points at the same stage last season, with less goals scored and more goals conceded!
If you take they time, and compare us with them!
You will find out we have improved on a lot from last year despite having a much weaker squad on paper than those mentioned above. We have more points at this stage compared with last season! We have much more goals scored at this stage than the whole of last season, a lot of players are improving their game and we are propably the only team in the top teams who have started using 17 and 18 year olds from the academy, I don't think United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Everton have 1 player that have played half of the games Andre Wisdom, Suso and Raheem Sterling has played this season! (Chamberlain cost arsenal 13m pounds and is no academy product)
Instead of all the negativity look to the future. We will fix the defence and buy the right players, its bound to happen at some stage or another. (And if you look at our outs, most of them were 30, 31 or older and its better to spend 20million on Sturridge and Coutinho and sell them for tripple that 3-4 years from now, instead of spending on the types of players we let go)
Just a quick fact for you, Allen+Borini+Coutinho+Sturridge+Assaidi's wages combined are around 50k less than what aquilani was on! (You want rafa back? Fffin BEHAVE)

Malak

Might be a difficult getting Jupp Heynckes as manager as he is retiring hence why they are appointing Guardiola. LMC

Malak. wake up and smell the truth.
Stop lying to yourself. LFC are no longer a major force. and with Rodgers at the helm we will be going backward fast just like Villa.

How have we improved on last year??
Enlighten me please! Don't tell me we pass the ball better!
Out of every domestic and European competition, and a mid table finish looming. Yeah great improvement Malek. Unfortunatley you have deluded yourself and fell for Rodgers BS talk.

Malak. what have Bayern won recently? They were a dis-jointed team of prima donnas and the new manager changed in to a team of champions {Ed002's Note - Most recently (last week) Bayern Munich became Bundesliga champions.}

Malek,, great post mate

Allen+Borini+Coutinho+Sturridge+Assaidi's wages combined are around 50k less than what aquilani was on!

I don't believe that for one second complete BS

As far as I know the outgoing Bayern manager is retiring which is why he is being replaced, so how can he be a target. Lahm, neuer, ribery, robben and muller are far from average and they are just a few of bayerns key players, and how can someone become a prima donna from sitting on the bench every week which was sturridge's situation.

The team are challenging for Europe that is an ambition for most teams so how can that be low ambition.

I also notice how you conviently leave out the job Rodgers did at Swansea where his team were labelled swanselona, nuff said and right now we are in the same place where Kenny left us while spending less money. But the most confusing part of this senseless post is when you state Rodgers must go and then say he should stay on as no. 2 to gain experience, why would he stay on after being sacked. This is one of the worst posts I've seen in recent times.

14 Apr 2013 07:59:39
Rodgers has a lot of explaining to do to the owners. He has targets and they not been met. If you can't beat the bottom team that's a scakable offence. They have lost 8 in a row until we came along. BR is not good enough for this club its to big for him. BRING CARLO IN NOW! Never liked BR even when we won games. He should put he's own name in one of the three envelopes. He's signings make kenny's look good. {Ed023's Note - Yes he is making Kenny's signings look good by fantastic coaching. Oh so you want Carlo in, just so in a years time you can call him a Chelsea reject and so and so.. No matter who was in charge yesterday it wouldn't of mattered, their keeper had a stormer.}

14 Apr 2013 09:10:32
if we had a clinical finisher. their keeper would have been the worst conceded ever in the history of EPL.
we were shooting straight to the keeper to save.
y was sturridge bought?

14 Apr 2013 07:55:54
The minority of the joker milwall fans should be arrested and locked up for along time, absolute disgrace!
Old people and children both frightened yesterday seriously these hooligans are just a bunch of persons who spoil englands good reputatation which they have built over the last decade or so. Platini will definitely be loving this as he already has it in for the english really dissapointing just glad no innocent elders and children were hurt yesterday

Basy

Who on earth is disagreeing with this? What's up with this site?

Someone asked yesterday if ya ever get the feeling someone is just scrolling through the site and comments, clicking disagree on every comment without even reading them, I seriously think this must be the case

(sigh,, no doubt someone is clicking the disagree button before I even send this)

Their horrible lot always have been

Is it just me or on the contrary easy to put 2 and 2 together to give 4. the owners don't want to invest BIG TIME ( I for one don't blame them anyway) and Rodgers has come out to spew rubbish about not having to spend so much to attain success ;its almost obvious that he's now their spokesman

tobi3 {Ed023's Note - The owners have backed their two managers very well and will continue to give money to spend. Rodgers was admiring Dortmund's success not saying he had no money and FYI he won't ever come out telling the press what he has to spend. LFC info is kept "in house"}

Hello Eds,
How much money will the owners give us for the summer window according to you?
I agree they have backed every manager within their limits and thus would be very pleased if they can just somehow provide us with another 20 million pounds + player sales taking it close to 50 million.

Two frustrating games against West Ham & Reading sum up our true position in the league. If we can't punish poor teams like these two and lose to the likes of West Brom and Villa at home we can't complain about where we are in 7th place, a true reflection of our season. The lack of goals come as no surprise to those of us who stand on The Kop and witness the 'hit the spectator' shooting practice at the end of the warm up session. The safest place in the ground is in goal. Ah well! there's always next season.
Another thing, has Johnson had a new 3 speed gearbox fitted which restricts his top speed?

Hi guys, was just reading some of the posts about the players not wanting "it". I may get stick but rafa's team wanted "it" everyone who played, played for a reason and a purpose and didn't prance around thinking they were gods gift, I'm not saying bring him back or anything, although if it was up to me he would never have been sacked, I just fail to buy into the 'were getting better' category. Us as fans are right in saying the majority of players don't care because they don't, they don't give a monkeys and in my opinion I'd rather have a team that were lower in the league but had pride in themselves and not allow themselves to be laughed at. I honestly don't think Liverpool will win the league or come near it until, how will I put it, a manager that would have the same frame of mind as a certain Jamie carragher, a guy that will not allow the shambolic goings on that is currently destroying our identity as a football club. I'm not raving because we're not in the top six, I just can't believe the lack of pride. I'm only 23 and remember listening to Liverpool on a bad old radio when I was a boy "the Roy Evans era" however unsuccessful it was, we had pride. I care too much to be listening to anyone Molly coddle what's going on, shanks is turning in his grave. L. f. c

After watching match of the day tonight I was really impressed with the Reading keeper.
Ed any chance we could put in a sneaky bid for him?

watch the game again. we made the keeper looked like super hero.
we were shooting straight at him to make the save.
a clinical finisher could have made this keeper look the worst.

Watching the highlights on match of the day. I mean I don't understand why I ever get shocked we should be like 4-0 up and the highlights not even finished so sickening. We outplay teams disgracefully and then run out of steam about 70 min if we can't score. ERGGG FRUSTRATION!

A decent performance against a poor Reading side fighting for their lives. The moaners can throw their dummy's out the pram but the only difference between the end result and a serious pasting was a world-class display from their keeper. One of the best 0-0 draws I've watched for a while and we put together some stunning football at times. I saw eleven reds trying their hardest to score against the stubborn defence of a team with more to lose than us. Rodgers put out the right team and on another day it would have been a drubbing but at least we got entertainment. Reina, Stevie G, Hendo and Coutinho in particular were superb. Really enjoyed that one despite the result.

I hear you because but how many times has it been said this season. If you actually look at it there's no killer instinct. Any other team would have one one two or more nil. We always have the same excuse for not winning. We never took our chances we played against the keeper of the year we hit the post. What it boils down to is we seriously are not good enough. We can't beat teams that are there to be beat. Bad have bought poor and will continue to until something changes in management or owners. We buy too many kids and not enough men.
Slowpoke

Oh lord, this annoys me. If we have no "killer instinct" and never "take our chances", why are we fourth in the goals scored stats? Yesterday felt like half the players were already on the beach.

Lucas Lovechild

Love child and Malak etc-try saying why are we in our position in The Leauge!?!?

thing is we are a long way behind the top and not just in terms of football, we say wait for transfer window to strengthen but what do we think every one else will do. for example we may buy another 3 or 4 bog standard players whereas utd city and chelsea will attract a few big names and utd always unearth young talent e. g. ronaldo, hernandez etc who turn out class, we will end up with a few championship quality players who rodgers likes but will be crap. probably lose suarez aswell and who can blame him then we will be firther behind, his new talk of we don't need money is also very worrying

Very true

Hi Ed,

I think LFC will make the UEFA cup via the fair play league spot hence then owners are not worried about league position now. but can see progress. LFC are averaging 8. 6 in the fair play league second to Arsenal. Last years UEFA Respect fair play winners across Europe scored a lot less last year think it was 8. 36. see link.

Fair Play winners enter at the Qualifying round 1 stage.
This place will automatically go the three best-placed national associations in the UEFA Respect fair play rankings provided they achieve an average of 8. 0 points or more. The top three associations will then be entitled to enter the club that has either won their domestic top-division fair play competition, or if they are already qualified, the runners-up and so forth.

just thought i'd mention it not seen it raised on here. what do you think eds?

Seriously sad

Maybe that's why we didn't put a challenge in at Southampton-We wanted to get in Europe via fair play League-How sad and desperate is this now?

If we enter next season with Ashley Williams at centre back and Lucas at defensive midfield, I really struggle to see how we could possibly get top 4. Rodgers needs to understand this!

A lot of fans are saying we have really improved 2nd half, but I really don't think so, because if you see 2nd half we were very close to Arsenal and everton at the sametime spent 23-25M buying coutinho and sturridge compare to them, but now they are miles above us and even europe is out of equation, do you honestly think we have improved or just sentiments, because if we have improved then how come everton or arsenal have left us that behind.

Strange game today, dominant in the 1st half without ever getting into top gear, a little unlucky but the feeling was positive. Until the final 10 minutes of the 2nd half we were shocking. Sloppy, slow, uninterested, lacked intensity and lacked serious focus. The amount of times in that period we gave the ball away was diabolical and we could even have went so far as to concede. Final 10 minutes was good - don't know why but rank keepers turn into Lev Yashin against us, draw felt inevitable as the time ran down.

Positives:

Coutinho

Another clean sheet

Henderson played well again

We had a ton of chances and possession

Downing did well when he came on

Negatives:

Lack of squad depth means we lack a player to change the game off the bench (and no this is not an endorsement to bring Carroll back)

Jose Enrique is our first choice left back and is clearly not good enough for a team with eyes on Champions League places next season

Our Defensive line sits too deep so we are unable to stifle opponents and win the ball back quickly - today Reading happened to be so bad they just gave us the ball a handful of times

Our corners are awful, they feel like a punishment rather than a benefit

Woeful for most of the 2nd half, we need to turn up for all 90 minutes

Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson - none of their passing was at a high enough or consistent enough level

Sturridge, near the end, made me want to punch my computer: last 30 seconds and, instead of getting the ball up field anyway possible he tackles himself, dawdles on the ball then the final whistle goes, mind numbing. He also took way too many touches to bring the ball under control through out the game, slows our rhythm some what

I've Probably focused on the negatives too much but as we got a disappointing draw it wouldn't be right to embellish the positives - we've a lot of to improve on however I think next season we will be much more competitive.

SMc

Good post mate! Have to add a positive twist though to some of the negatives - Not sure myself why people aren't fans of Enrique anymore, is he really that bad? And, Rodgers won't be happy with a deep defensive line but bringing Carra into the team means he has adapted it for him.

Enriques a good player. But he over does he's frustrating-Hes at fullback and tries to beat 3 Oncoming players. he's beaten three when attacking his opposite number, has man in support, puts his cup of tea down and tries to do it AGAIN. Brendan should say 4 words to him-Play the easy ball!

Look - the majority of players don't care about us - only carra, stevie, lucas and luis play for us. no other player does.

Unfortunately, we the fans are meaningless to the others.

Previously I blamed the manager - I'm not his biggest fan, but he is probably trying his best albeit this is a job too early for him.

The majority of players are going through the motions, they have no will to win its an absolute disgrace that they even deign to put our beloved shirt on.

We pay our hard earned money to watch our team, we pray that they win, that they put some modicum of effort to the cause. But the reality is that they don't care.

BR should be castigating them for their lack of effort, FSG should be threatening to dock their wages.

Where is the pride?
Where is the will to play through a brick wall for the fans.

We are not good enough and frankly we don't belong anywhere near the top 6. We can't even beat Reading - it's an absolute scandal that they take the wages but don't play
for us!

What happened to LFC - once the greatest club in the world. We need to shout, show our disdain, tell the club that it's not good enough.

FIGHT for our club,. otherwise we will be where Leeds is. Nowhere.

M

Try singing at the matches

What else could have been done? The 'keeper was excellent - how many saves did he make? And while I am the first to question players not making an effort, to even mention Suarez in the same context as Carra and Gerrard - and also to suggest he tries more for the team than Henderson - is a complete scandal.

Agger doesn't care about LFC? He has YNWA tatted

I've found your dummy

M mate the buck stops with Rodgers he needs to motivate them, he needs to make them believe his the right man and he should start using more subs or else Suso or assaidi will leave.

Its very tough for players knowing nothing left to play or no europe next season or again saying next season will be ours which has been going on for a lot of years, Rodgers needs to motivate them and keep them on their toes, its very tough to know how many players really think Rodgers is right man to bring champions league next season, as I doubt he commands the same respect as fergie or mourinho or ancelloti etc etc

Rubbish, you are telling me Dagger does not care! Or Pepe.

Wake up and smell the coffee. Stop giving the players an excuse. that's why we don't win anymore. !

Ridiculous, how we can we expect to have a winning mentality when fellow fans give the players seas time for paying like garbage!

Think more care than original poster saying though can see where he's coming from. Another poster above I. M. o has called it-It's about Motivating them. And do not think they are fully Motivated
