Does an Ed think that it may be difficult for Sakho to go straight into the first team considering there will be a language barrier? Surely CB and GK and the most important positions verbally. Any thoughts?
Cheers {Ed002's Note - We all speak French man.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He has to be eased into it surely instead of thrown into it! Sorry its getting late .

Agree0 Disagree0

Le hoofit merci!

Agree0 Disagree0

Now that carra's retired there shouldn't be too much of a language barrier!

Agree0 Disagree0

Mignolet being Belgian most likely speaks French, Kolo for sure does! So no problem!

Agree0 Disagree0

Well said Marshy

Agree0 Disagree0

Some good banter here. I don't think Sakho looks like one to be told what to do by others anyways, regardless of the language.

Hi eds and reds
I know it would be risky to change formation after a good start but given the number of quality CBS we have now and also given that our full backs Johnson, Enrique, cissokho are extremely attacking and weaker defensively do you think we will long term try and change it to a back three with two wing backs?
If we were going to do this formation I for one would welcome it, I believe against stronger team we could play gerrard and Lucas centrally and coutinho Suarez and sturridge ahead and against weaker opposition have counting and gerrard centrally with a different attacker such as Moses in attack.
I have mentioned Henderson as in this formation I think he would be the perfect wing back
Any thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Henderson isn't a wing-back.

Leave the team selection to Brendan.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's best not to mess with a winning formation/team.

Also, Henderson is not a wing back.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alex I think your formation is a prediction waiting to happen. You have all the right players for that formation and I think your manager had that in mind with his signings. I already feel your going to be putting in a strong challenge for CL place this season and 3 at the back with wing backs I believe will make you even stronger

Agree0 Disagree0

I realise Henderson is not wing back, however he is not going to displace gerrard, we need Lucas for the defensive role and some discipline, he has stated he wants coutinho as a number 10 so I was just looking to fit him in as I feel he deserves a place but he isn't good enough to play in a fluid front three and as iv stated I can't see him in the midfield. And if we did play this formation he definitely wouldn't play in attack.
I merely think he has attributes of a good wing back, he has a fantastic engine, good on the ball, willing runner, decent dribbler, can mark and tackle as well as Johnson if not better and is quick, his only issue would be positioning and learning the game from that role

It would be great if we did a double swoop for Arda Turan and Diego Costa. Its just a thought though.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

If you stopped wasting your money on trying to save Gotham Bruce, you could buy them for us.

Agree0 Disagree0

It would be Super, Batman but fair play to Ath Madrid. They have built a very good team and environment where players want to stay and be loyal. They deserve some credit for that. That said, we can always dream eh. :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Aguero, falcoa, torres, costa and turan would have gladly left if a asking price was met. not really keeping hold of their top players

hi eds some fans are worrying about our RB position with johnson being out, everyone seen skertal have a great game, maybe because he now has competition for his place, but I remember skertal playing at right back and he did a decent job getting up and down the pitch, so he might play RB against swansea plus we have other players who can play there, but I look at it this way swansea should be worrying about us instead of us worrying about our RB

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I remember him playing right back against Spurs and he got absolutely torn apart.

Agree0 Disagree0

I Would rather play young Ryan mcgloughin than a sluggish skytel at RB (especially against swansea). Unfortunately skytel doesn't suit our way of playing, yes he had a blinder against Manchester United but he wouldn't consistently put in that performance in a BR team. He's a going to in January and unfortunately for him he won't see any game time this season as he suddenly finds himself 4th, maybe even 5th/6th, choice cb.
And playing 3 at the back never consistently works and with our attacking options and fluid way of playing why would we want to become more defensive? I agree though its an excellent plan b option and I remember BR switching it to 3 at the back against Everton (?) last season and turning the game around.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Guv.

Agree0 Disagree0

I'd play McLaughlin at RWB with 5 at the back but not in a 442 not just yet.

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom is the best available choice I think, atleast for this weekend.

I'm backing at least one of Gerrard, Coutinho or Henderson to score against Swansea.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was impressed with Aspas' position against United a few times, if Sturridge gave him a simple cut back he'd have buried a second goal against them but that will come in time.

I think he'll be important for us in time, especially when the rest of the team get used to his movement.

we r dew a pen go for gerrard 1st goal us to win 2-1.

15 Sep 2013 20:27:14
Swans will be going for the win and while we will certainly have opportunities to counter with pace on the break, I would imagine we could well score from a set piece a-la Gerrard or even build-up play. I would be surprised if we sat back looking to counter for the majority. Expect some exceptionally tired players due to forechecking from both sides and fitness levels associated with early season.

good to know jonjo will be playing against us that's one penalty assured as well as plenty of free kicks

Shelvey is a decent player honest don't be surprised if he plays well

I have never disrespected Michael Laudrup, but I think he should focus on his team and leave Daniel Sturridge and Liverpool alone. I mean, what does he think he's up to? Mind games? Does he think he's Sir Alex?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

What did he say?

Agree0 Disagree0

I it was a cheap shot but then he said he wanted Liverpool to have their best player on the field.

Agree0 Disagree0

Disagree. I'm delighted he said it as it should only serve to motivate Sturridge on Monday.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Sep 2013 03:13:03
Who's does Laudrup think he is? Sturridge was injured against Manchester United and played the full 90 mins cause Brendan needed him that's what the hug was all about! Hope sakho starts alongside Agger on Monday cause he is an absolute beast! 3-1 Liverpool YNWA

Agree0 Disagree0

By becoming so indignant, you are giving Laudrup's comments more importance than they deserve.

Ignore him, he's irrelevant. Peaked in his first season at Swans, it's all down hill from here.

Agree0 Disagree0

A petty comment, also not worth a discussion IMO.

A question for Ed001, how do you think Jordan Rossiter has done since stepping up into the U21 side? {Ed001's Note - he did struggle at first, tried too hard and just ended up running round like a headless chicken. Now, though, he is settling in nicely and beginning to show what he can do, though I believe there is still a lot more to come from him. As the season progresses, I expect to see him start to take the games by the scruff of the neck and run them, like he did at the younger levels. Rossiter is brimming over with talent, I think he will really be showing it on a regular basis by the tail end of this season.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think everyone expects him to be the Gerrard esque player of like 02-08 but instead he will be more like the Gerrard of 2013.

looking at the bold predictions for Liverpool 10 game run.
The only slip will be a draw at swansea and we will go winning upto to a small defeat at Emirates Stadium. What do you think Eds? {Ed002's Note - I have no interests in fantasy football, sorry.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Smash. back to earth!

Agree0 Disagree0

Oh ye of little faith. They way we have started the season, we should fear nobody and expect to have a chance of winning every game, even at the Emirates. We have beaten Manchester United and we can beat Arsenal. Slip-ups may occur but all games must be considered winnable.

Agree0 Disagree0

Another mystic meg post arrggh!

Agree0 Disagree0

The last number of seasons should teach you to only take one game at a time. We finished 7th last season for a reason i.e. inconsistency. and let's be honest we could be sitting here with three draws instead of three wins.

Agree0 Disagree0

Got to agree with Northern Git.Top 'Monica' by the way Northern!

Agree0 Disagree0

What is the friggin point of looking at the next 10 games? Injuries, suspensions, postponed games. You can't predict any of these so there is zero point in thinking you can predict results. Focus on the next game.

I think it might be worth saying I have a friend who lives in France and is massively into football there, he tells me this idea about Sakho playing left back is a an idea to put to bed pretty quickly. He only played there due to injuries in the PSG squad and it would be a waste playing him at LB as he is a much better CB. He compared it to Agger or Vertonghen playing full back; they'll do an o.k job but they are clearly much more useful in the centre of defence.

I dunno about other reds but I am having kittens about who will play at RB against the Swans- I am not sure Wisdom is quite ready and Swansea are very strong on the wings- can ILLori play at RB or is he also one for the future? Eds? {Ed002's Note - It'll be fine.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think wisdon is great in RB but looks bit shaky in CB. I think it will him him who starts.

That time again, another topic! let's go

The CB AND RB dilemma on Monday night!

Right, so we have agger, who will 100% start, after that we have Skrtel, who took his chance brilliantly in the last game, almost deserves the chance I think!

After that, you have Kolo, who before the injury, was unbelieveable, couldn't fault him

Then we have Sakho, and honestly, why would you pay 16 million or there abouts for a player to sit on a bench.

Ilori is the next option, how about him at RB, pace, has experience there is he an option?

Finally, we have the likes of kelly, and Wisdom who done terrific when he came on against Man Utd.

SO. What are all your thoughts? DISCUSS!

Thanks a lot

ps. Amazing problem to have.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think our best bet against swansea would be a flat back three agger skrtel toure/sakho

a cdm in lucas two cms in gerrard and hendo enrique on left flank moses on right coutinho in behind the striker and sturridge the striker.
this gives us a lot of fluidity in the centre of the park and a flat back three of agger skrtel and sakho should be terribly difficult to score against for swans.
i am going for a 3-5-1-1 formation here with the flank players in enrique and moses being the workhorses for the team, moving up and down as required. also a 6 man midfield should stop swansea's passing game.
they would have to try something different which would give us the upper hand in the game.
however this would mean no chance for wisdom and kelly, which would be so unfortunate. but with our team as of now I think a flat back three is going to give us a lot of solidarity against teams that do not operate much from the flanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

But with 3 Clean Sheets, do you really think it's right to change the formation that much? I don't think so.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2013 10:05:18
akrubbish there is 4 cbs in your flat back 3, i'm just wondering with sakho and agger both left sided cbs could they play together jamie carragher seems to think it will be difficult, although in a back 3 I could see skrtel, sakho, agger working and if skrtel doesn't fit in ilori looks a real good player to cover skrtel.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2013 10:17:47
Akrubbish, have you watched Swansea mate? Virtually all their penetration comes from over lapping full backs and pacey wide men, who then cut it back for Pablo, Michu and Bony. Playing without full backs against them would be suicide!
I'd play our normal game. 4-2-3-1 with Wisdom at right back, Enrique at left back, and an Agger-Sakho partnership in the middle. They have so much pace, its crucial our centre backs are fast enough to keep up with the play. I'd even consider Ilori at right back to help counter Davies, their left wing back. Lucas and Gerrard will be the midfielders with an attacking trio of Henderson, Coutinho and Aspas in behind Sturridge. Moses should not just walk into a winning team. If Toure was fit, I wouldn't even expect Sakho to do that. If we play the game we know, and maintain the tempo in the second half, Swansea will be out classed.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

Agree with the Adam on this one! It's just the way Swansea play!

Don't think playing with two left footed CB's will be a problem to be fair, they are good enough to work it out!

Thanks

I swear to god Ak, I typed your name exactly as it is spelt and It automatically changed it to that! I was not trying to be offensive or rude, despite how that made the comment look. My apologies.

YNWAdam {Ed002's Note - There is nothing we can do to prevent this and it is likely he will need to change his name at some point.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Anybody think br could play sakho at lb? he's done a job there before wisdom/Kelly, skrtel/toure, daggers, sakho. its an option.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hey Griff3003! personally no, not the way Enrique has played recently.
Thanks

Agree0 Disagree0

Wisdom at RB, Enrique at LB and if Toure is fully fit, him and Agger in the middle, but a lovely headache to have, as Sakho should be starting too!

Ed002, if that word is a problem for your swear filter, can you put a space either side to make it realise it's the word that's at fault and not those particular letters in that order? {Ed002's Note - We don't have the time nor the inclination to do that.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello!
i said try that formation!
and if it works against swansea it will work against all teams! because I know out of all teams in epl its swansea who have the most fluid attack from flanks .
ps - I don't give a damn what u call me or not, just as long we communicate about our beloved club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I would go with wisdom, skrtle, agger and enrique.
Kelly and toure coming back from injuries might be risky, and sakho has just arrived, swansea would be throwing him in at the deep end a bit (not to mention skrtle deserves to start after man u game.)

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Sep 2013 08:21:21
I think our main partnership will be Sakho and Agger, but believe Toure will still be starting initially with Sakho getting minutes to bed him in. I don't think them both being lefties is a problem, two righties never has been so it should be fine.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Just thinking that most strikers are right footed so would it be so much of a problem to have two left footed CBs?
