Does anyone know what Johnson's status is? Im hoping he can play. We need pace on the wings to combat the speeds of Lennon and Bale. Enrique should be able to handle Lennon, as he is fast. But we'll have a problem if Skrtel is playing RB, matching against Bale.

LIV3RBIRD

Keep saying this but last time Everton played spurs Phil Neville had bale in his pocket. Sometimes experience is better than speed.

Kelly is for my money faster than Johnson, just not as refined in possession. If Kelly is fit he should be play, but I think Skrtel would be capable of playing against Bale if he plays. But to be honest, we should concentrate more on our game, not Stoke's. Playing Henderson and Kelly on the right would provide a natural wing outlet when Henderson goes inside. I'm really psyched for Sunday's game!

Red Ollie

Kelly has been injured since last March and their is s rumour that he is going to wind up like Rob Jones

Kelly is not the future RB of LFC neither is Johnson

Kelly has a slight hamstring strain - Rob Jones suffered from shin splints which can only be cured with long periods of rest so I don't think Kelly will wind up like Jones. If Kelly is not the future RB of Liverpool it will be because he is the future CB of Liverpool.

JRG

Kelly is not the fure RB or CB of Liverpool he will retire over the next two years I said like Rob Jones (meaning early in his career) I did not say he will retire with the exact same medical problem as Rob Jones.

Lots of young players suffer from hamstring injuries early in their career - just look at Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard. I think the sports science people will know if his career is in danger and wouldn't let him play unless he is fully fit and cured. Unless you're suggesting he is going to retire not through injury but for some other reason? take up golf or fishing....

JRG

Just watched the train vid on the Lpool website and Kelly is in full training with everybody else, but there was no Gerrard? I expect Kelly to be RB on sunday

get bellamy upfront with suarez!suarez has 3 men on him at times.we should be converting chances!and were creating loads, need!! more pace to convert chances made

Agree bellamy and suarez upfront

Would have been i different result if it was bellamy with the ball one on one with the keeper

people dont like truth, for tunnel vision.all true! and! got to get clinical! its after you"claud",ala arsenal.stop! trying to walk it in!finish!and stop!relying on suarez.get bellamy uptop with him

What does that mean?

Suarez is not a natural finisher

We have no out and out striker

Even Aldrige has come to the same conclusion this past week if you read the echo

We nned a clinical finisher

Aldridge have also stated the ref's are not the probelm the problem is all the missed chances in front of goal

As good as suarez is he is not a natural finisher

Until we solve this problem we will have difficulty finishing off matches

To me Suarez's goal record speaks for itself. If that's not a natural finisher then i don't know what is.

Suarez record was carved out in Holland a much easier place to score then the EPL, ask Kuyt he will tell you?

Totally agree dont miss meireles at all decent player but not Liverpool standard i would much rather have Hendo and Adam especially when it starts getting cold.

So Shrek is the White Pele?
I need a keg of what Slur Alex drinks as that stuff is mind altering.
Did Purple nose see Rooney during the world cup? More like White elephant.
Pele must be gutted!

Shrek is playing Brilliant would it not be okay to say so?

You don't have to idolize him just admit he is not the worst player to pull on football boots.

Sure but to compare him to Pele? Fergie is a total person to mention such a comparison.

Pele is in another league. I have watched many of his games. Shrek is not even 10% of the great Pele.

Unfortunately, have to say that Shrek is in great form. He's been best in the premier league, so far, this campaign. Hope, Suarez is gonna beat him, soon. YNWA

Shrek is not pele, nor will he ever be, but imagine if we had someone who could finish like shrek we would be level with Citeh and UTD irrespective of the Ref's bad decisions!

Going for a haircut tomorrow in Liverpool.
Please can anyone confirm that Raul Meireles hairdresser(!!) has gone with him to Chelsea, and also that he /she doubles up at Crufts . Never seen such a shambolic disaster as he is sporting. Makes a comb over a la Bobby Charlton seem an attractive alternative I think !!! Or I could go to our local butchers and save a few bob !
Not missing Meireles one bit . Good business to get rid imo.

13 Sep 2011 21:59:57
Can't believe how many posts stating that Hendo should start against Spurs- Bellamy showed enough to be in the team and with him on Lennon may just be too occupied to keep bombing forward all the time.
I think Kenny should also unleash Carroll from the start.

I'd start Henderson. He's a better ball player and can pick a pass, as well as being a far superior crosser. We shouldn't worry about their players, just concentrate on our own game and take the game to them. Play Henderson and Downing as we have all season, unless Gerrard is fit

I almost wish Torres would score, starting to feel sorry for him

Shut up you muppet.

I feel the same way, really feeling bad for him ha

Dont feel sorry for him. I bet hes not even bothered himself once he gets his paycheck

To the person worried about spurs.
You can't go of the stoke game , the parked the bus in front of goal.
Stoke did nothing in that game apart from score the dodge penalty , and we should have Atleast been awarded one of our penalty claims.
Spuds will attack giving us more chances up top.
I know people are pissed off about stoke , but we had plenty of chances to win that game we just didn't take them.
Last year we would have lost the game and never even looked like winning.

LAVERS

No its the same old thing, we make chances and dont score them. Top 4 is the best and the least we can hope for. With teams like stoke you have to find a way to open them up. Both the mank teams will do it, you need that bit more cutting edge that I think we are lacking just at the moment.

What so neither Manc team will have a bad day all season? We scored 2 past arsenal and 3 past Bolton. Not really the same old storey

We weren't making chances last year. we were crammed in our half all match.
If you honestly can't see a difference between now and then you won't get your opinion much credit.

Liverpool should of beaten stoke. liverpool had no problem opening up stoke, they just forgot how to score for some reason. like henderson adam and suarez

The reason we have no natural striker Suarez is brillaint no doubt however he misses too many chances

Owen, Fowler would put the chances he misses away

So we will continue to struggle and our season will be one of a tail of woe as carroll can't find the net clinically either

Some people think suarez is a natural finisher

God bless them

Must have never seen Robbie Fowler or Ian Rush them boys were natural finishers

Suarez is a very good player, excellent on his day but in front of goal he is no Rush or Fowler

Yer I agree with your post there mate. If Coates was ready he may have been thrust in but he will need time.

Just want to see what the lad is like myself. Maybe at Brighton next week.

Spriggo

Sprigg now that would be an ideal solution or even after 60 minutes on Sunday if we have a few goal lead.

Phil Neville did have Bale in his pocket because Seamas Coleman gave him so much help. Jonson6

That's why kuyt may play on the right and Bellamy up top. Kuyt will provide protection and Bellamy pace to stretch them.

Papa G

Up front we will have Saurez, downing, and 1 of either kuyt, Bellamy or carroll. If carroll starts Saurez will be on the right. Whether it be Kuyt, Suarez, or Bellemy on the right on Sunday I'm sure they will help out right back as well as who ever plays on the right of the centre 3.

Besides which I expect spurs to be pinned back a lot against us than they were against Everton

I don't worry much abt the spurs game.

Fact is we'v played pretty well this season n the main reason we'v dropped points is bcos we'v not had that little bit of luck n that we'v not taken the many chances that've come our way.

Assuming lady luck stays neutral (if not smile in our favour) at the lane, we shld b fine.

And we can and will keep getting better as the team trains more 2gether. Dun 4get we have half a dozen new players in the 1st team.

I'm really looking 4ward to seeing Coates play. He cld well turn out to b a monster in our defence BUT it's only wise n prudent to gv him time to ease in2 the English game.

Anyway, pls guys, try to rein in the pessimism ok?

If we'r not challenging for honours or top 4 by the new year, then let's start sending out the pity-party invites.

For now, let's juz keep our fingers crossed n get behind kenny n the lads!

Is it just me or reading Torres's interview does it sound like he wants to say "I'm gutted I left Liverpool think they will win something before Chelsea do"?

I personally would take him back but only on the cheap and only if he took a massive paycut.

Huyton Red

Im watching this situ with interest, it does seem as though Torres is making a start on engineering a move away from Chelsea, and i think they would take anything they could get for him.
The interesting point for me is how out of nowhere these rumours have started popping up on forums such as this, anonymous posters posing the question as to whether we woudl take him back, As if someone is trying to suss out the lie of the land with regards to Torres.
Sid Lowe, a prominent journo out in Spain made a comment on Talksh*t earlier that in his opinion Torres is rueing the mistake he made 7/8 months ago.. Now none of this means anything at all other than something to talk about but, if over the next few weeks Torres, or ppl close to him start talking about LFC in a positive way then id have to really start to wonder if there might actually be something in this Torres to return Rumour!
Clearly the way Torres plays doesnt suit the Chelsea way and they have done nothing to adapt to him, whereas LFC have bought pace, class and youth as was promised to Torres the year before he left .. If he hadnt panicked and taken advice from an agent that gets 10% etc he may well now be back to his old self and scoring the goals we are lacking right now..

Can people stop making stupid comments about Cara. It weren't even a pen and he has never been quick.

Stupid comments like "throw Coates in" need to blood him preferably with cara to lead the line. He's only ever played for national and 6 internationals. Id be amazed if the people asking for him have even seen him play let alone more than 1 or 2 games.

Huyton red

*wasn't

As soon as the referee missed Walters elbow on Carra - it was a cast iron penalty. And if you take off the Red coloured glasses, but seriously try and watch the first Stoke corner, and I'm not saying every side hasn't got defenders that don't hold on -but Carra and the brain dead Slovakian were asking for a penalty to be given, the sooner referees start giving penalties for some of the things that go on, the better the game will become. That said, we lost the game because we didn't take any of our chances - end of.

John B

That was a pen whats wrong with ur eyes? im a liverpool fan and a carra one but that was a mistake made by carra. he didn't read the play and let the guy get past him, he tried to get behind him and by doing so he used his arm and end of. plus why rush glen back?

Carra and Agger at centre bk will keep Spurs out we av got got a quality midfield as well with Lucas, adam downing and hendo. Plus luis drifts into midfield and they are not great at the back. Lennon as pace but final ball shocking. If we play to our strengths we can win.

Mighty reds

Yup with skrtel at rb blocking bale. but bellamy starts for me. and coates some minutes for carra.

13 Sep 2011 16:48:27
We shouldnt be worried about Spurs we have looked the better team so far this season. A team like Spurs will let us play our game as well. I believe we can win there just need a little bit of luck. Would be very tempted to start Carroll though to mix it up. Under KK we have always won our next game when come off a defeat and we can do it again.

Mighty Reds

My only problem with Spurs in the midfield battle. If VDV comes back then;

Bale - VDV - Modric - Parker - Lennon

Modric, Bale and Lennon are all lightning fast and Van der Vaart and Parker have the passing skills. My only worry is that our defenders won't be able to keep up with the pace. Kelly HAS to start at RB, Enrique can keep Lennon quiet, but Carragher can't start. I honestly don't think Carragher can stop Modric especially with his speed lacking nowadays. Coates and Agger will hopefully block the hole.

RenegadeRed

Muppet comment above. Phil Neville had bale in his pocket last season. Cara has as much pace and more class than that Manc.

As for Agger and Coates. You are asking for our stand in captain to be drop -obviously due to conceeding a pen that weren't a pen in favor of a player I can garentee you ain't seen playing more than 3 games none of which were for Liverpool.

But your right let's throw him in the team with no real leader up against vdv, modric, bale and Lennon. I'm sure a mistake against them 4 won't be punish.

Let's destroy his confidence before he even starts his Liverpool career!

Huyton red

In my opinion carra should be dropped for the next game.... The whole reason for having a squad is so that when someone has a poor game/games then they are left out and someone comes in and has a chance to hold onto the shirt. Carra made the mistake against bolton even though it did not cost us and now he was involved in the incident at the weekend.... If you play well then you stay in... if you play bad then you are out..... we have players chomping at the bit to play in our squad so lets use them.
jonnybarnes89-90
p.s It wont be the end for carra.... just a kick up the backside!

Just a small point. You say you cant throw Coates in for Carragher but you only have to look over our end at how Jones and Smalling were both thrown in at various points and now are doing wonders for the team. I know you boys love Carragher and all as hes been a greeat servant but theres no room for sentimentality in football....just ask your mate Gary Neville ;)

TK-Red

Got to say thats a sensible post from our utd friend. Not advocating that Carra should be bombed out but Paisley was ruthless when it came to replacing the older players and I think that Kenny will slowly phase Carra out and Coates in during the season. Brian

Anyone as worried as I am about game against Tottenham? I am as true a fan as anyone on here, but I don't think we will get a point. Then we will be back in the middle of the table and the head hunters will be out.

Maybe you should have some faith in Kenny about fixing the mistakes we made against stoke and about sorting out our strike force

Spurs fan then

We should have won there last year with a team not playing well. We will stuff them this time cause we are on fire

We are not even remotely close to being on fire right now...maybe lukewarm...we've already had a draw and a loss...how is that on fire?

We will beat spurs. Last time sum horrible finishin frm torres cost us 3 points. There is no way they wil beat us. We have improved n they have gone backwards.

To all fans wanting tickets for the game at Goodison.
Just go to Everton website and register on it, you can then go on to ticket sales and choose where you want to sit and go to checkout and pay for them ok you will be with Everton fans but as tickets are so hard to get for away games its worth it.It does work because mine arrived in the post this morning.

If he admits he was wrong, scores like a man possessed for us and we make champs league then I could forgive him.

I think Torres needs to forgive us first. We let him down big time he came to us at our hour of need and tried to raise us to his level but he was betrayed. The fans were too quick to criticise. Torres is greater than any club and it is his right to be a trophy winner! His rightfull place is in a team will deliver this.

I hang my head in shame and beg his forgiveness.

D Lusion al

Are you insane hes a prat

D lusion al how were we too quick to criticise for two seasons he was a god and after injuries he was like Mr magoo but all his passion for LFC and football itself had gone then he would not turn up for any type of team bonding exercises and put in a transfer request then basically called us a small club. you may hang your head in shame but i shake my head at you and your stupidity

Team for the Carling Cup match in a week?

Doni
Flanagan--Carragher--Coates--Robinson
Kuyt--Henderson--Spearing--Maxi
Bellamy--Carroll

Reina will start
Skrtel instead of Carragher
Gerrard instead of Henderson
Henderson instead of Kuyt
With no Europe there is no reason to take any chances. Lets win these games and get to Wembley.
EST.1892

I hope Suarez is rested. Carroll and Bellamy will be the classic 'Big man, little man' scenario which I think will work well. Although the only reason I see Carra playing is because no one else can actually captain the team in his absence.

Maybe Gerrard will play this match, might get him in a better shape.

RenegadeRed

I would like to see that team out, will be interesting to see how Coates gets on. If we could get a look at Coady as well at some stage that would be good.

Emos1892

I've been to see Brighton play this season. Poyet has got them playing good football - flair and imagination up front and well-organised at the back. Talk of 'resting' players is foolish and disrespectful; they are flying in the Championship. We must put out our strongest 11.

Is Andy Carrol very slow or has it got any pace at all?

Carrol £35m Aguero£38m. That's about as close as he will ever get to Aguero. Newcastle must be laughing the socks off.

I bet Carrol will score a massively important goal this season, perhaps in a Cup Final. Give him a break. Atleast for this season anyway.

I am not an Andy Carroll fan at all, but this analogy is nonsense.

Ash

Has it got any pace at all?
What does this mean you non LFC fan?
Dont manc's Bluenoses or others spell?

Aguero wages would have crippled the club. It's not just about the signing fee. And you forget it was the last day of transfer window, we got about 15 -20 over the odd's for Torres and then passed on Chelsea's money. For a net spend of zero we replaced Torres and Babel with Suarez and Carroll, its a good trade no matter what anyone says.

ChrisE

B****cks it would have.

A good 'Trade'..U sound like Hicks and Gillette?! Kidding

BTW great book = 44 months with a pair of Cowboys, great read...big love to SOS for all their hard hard work in ridding our beloved club of those complete w**kers.

Crickyboy

So to the person who said bollox about the Aguero's wages crippling the club. What so you think if we had signed him based on the wages he was after rumoured to be close to 250k per wk before tax, then the likes of Gerrard and Reina would not have expected parity. You can't blow the wage structure of a club out of the water like that.

Anyone else think we are lacking a top finisher. No offence to Andy Carrol or even Squares but niether look natural in frount of goal. For all squares's skill and ability he is not that great in frount of goal. I know he scored a lot of goals in holland but to me he looks to panicky when given a chance to score. He does get a lot of good chances and many of them he makes himself. The problem is he seems to lack the composure that top strikers all have. Maybe it will come with time but for me we need a pocher. Andy Carrol needs to settle and start finding the net. I do think he could be the answer but he needs game so he can relax and settle. Anyone else see that we Squares?

Suppose if the midfield chipped in with some more goals he mightened feel as pressured, with Bellamy and Gerrard coming back it may help. Crouch took i think 18 league games before he scored, so Carrol should be ok!

Jay

Ha HA HA! I can't take any more ... Carrol & Squares!

dd

Is this the same Luis Suarez who was top scorer in Copa America and who scored almost 50 goals with Ajax the season before we signed him?

We need R. Falcao

A real Striker

What you reckon, Chelski or Man U fan?

I would say Everton fan as he's clearly confused about what makes a good striker. Saurez is top draw maybe squares needs help. But then I thought - no English ain't great and Everton don't have a global fan base.

Actually Liverpool

Suarez is not an out and out striker

And Carroll presently seems incapable of doing the Strikers role

To the OP.
Suarez panicky in front of goal? Need i remind you of Sunderland last season. Very few can score like that, and if that's not enough look at some of his Ajax goals then re-post when you're a little better informed.

Jim102929

You can't compare the dutch league to the EPL

Kuyt was a prolific goalscorer when he played in holland.

Kuyt's goal scoring abilities have dramticlly shrunk since joining liverpool so much so he was sent to the right wing.

Suarez goal scoring statistics for Liverpool will pale compared to his time in holland.

I could score 50 goals a year in holland easily but maybe only 10 in the EPL

We need a striker of epic proportion

and the man is Falcao {Ed002's Note - No chance.}

Carroll needs ball after ball being thrown into the box, I think he will benefit a great deal if we sign a quick right sided player, he's not going to be able to score if we just hoof it up the centre of the field, the only thing he can do then is hold it up and lay it off. I'm sure hell get his head on the end of a few if attack from left and right.

Downing...

Exactly just downing, need someone on other side

No but play downing on the left its simple we played him on right for second half against sunderland and didnt get a win played on the right again against stoke and didnt get the points either basically we have to play to our strengths and downing on the left is a must now a switch for 10 mins is fine but not the whole bloody half r even game

Totally agree, we needed a left winger, we got a left winger, please for the love of God play him on the left.

I cant understand the calls for Torres to come back. He had a shocking season till he picked up bit of form when the window was coming up,then started to break out of a jog and net a few. Soon as he got chance to go, even though we'd just signed or were very close to signing Suarez on the last day of the window when he couldn't get off quick enough, knowing he was really leaving us short up top. I gave my Torres book to my Staffs to be honest, they had some fun with it at least. Couldn't keep his mouth closed, constantly having dig's at us, not to mention the wages his inflated ego would demand as much money as he's on now if not more. Just like Meriles is doing now. But the most hard done by player by far to leave or have his mind made up with Rafa's madness of trying to replace him with Gareth Barry was the Great Xabi Alonso. He really could've ripped us and would of been within his rights to do so with what Rafa did with him. He could've really stuck the boot in but what does Xabi do. Give interview after interview only saying positive things and how much he loved the club and the fans. No slagging no nothing. Then now you've got El Sulk who's blaming the old midfielder's for being to slow for his current jack of form and goal drought. Thought he never truly recaptured his form of the first 2 seasons. Showed glimpses but never reached those heights again. What a suprise that his interview over the Chelsea players was lost in translation. Ye,we'll just pay a goal shy gobs**te 150k a week to come back. No thanks, lets just move on and leave him to stew like he left us. Jonson6

Can't see Gerrard starting , maybe doing a 25 min cameo/swap with Henderson?
Wouldn't he go with a lone striker and maybe go with an extra midfielder ie Bellamy?Either way let's put Arry' and his boys back in their box, should have won there last year for me..
Rugbyred

As i said, hoping that's the team. I know I'm being a bit of a romantic putting Stevie straight back in but if we could, then we should. I see Spurs playing a 4-4-2 so i dont think there's a need to stick an extra man in midfield, especially not a striker (Bellamy), their only threat is out wide and we cant put any extra men there...

Guys, time for a reality check here! Just about 12 months ago we, LFC, were on the verge of going down the same road as Leeds due to the ownership of the previous 2 cowboys. Now a year on the same fans are screaming 'cos we lost away at Stoke, which, let's face it will not be an easy away game for any premership team this season, and citing/moaning that we are miles away from a top 4 or winning the league. Lets get real here, 4 games in and we are 1 point of a top 4 place. We had approx 74% of possession on Sat, now I'm not sure on figures but i'll bet not many away teams have that amount during this or the previous season. I am absolutley sure KK knows exactly what he is doing, when he buys a player (A Carroll!) and sends a team out onto the pitch. I am just as sure KK has a plan of how he see's up developing under his management, long term, not just an instant fix..........just cast your mind back to the start of last season and consider how, as a LFC fan you felt, depressed?, angry?, frustrated?.....now consider how optimistic your feeling and like me how much you look forward to going to see the mighty reds again? Give it time boys & girls and cease with the knee jerk reactions. The season is over 38 games, not 4!

Give it a break... All you neysayer's we have played good football this year had a blip against stoke it happens. OK I thought carroll would hit the ground running at Anfield but he has not and his fee is directly influenced by the Torres transfer and the lack of good English players. He was injured blah blah blah lets wait till season end or even next season before we start shouting waste of money.
Henderson 16+ Jones 19+ Chamberlian 12+ hell 20+ for a untired untested kid from belgium as good as he looks 20 mil is a massive risk for Lukaku.

Carra on the otherhand is a legend in his hay day the prems best and top 5 cb in the world but he is getting on he cant start every game, replacement is needed a good solid no nonsense english centre back.

13 Sep 2011 12:56:43
We really have to stop with all the negative Carroll comments. He was injured when he first came, still played a few games ( was quality against Man City ).
This year we have only played 5 games and Carroll has only started 2 of them. When he plays he is a big concern to the opposition which will always leave space for Suarez or runners from midfield. IMO he should start the next few games and lets get behind him.

Liverpool are still looking strong despite loosing to Stoke last weekend. Big worries lie ahead for Arsenal and Spurs who continue to see top players land on the treatment table. This time last year Liverpool were going through a similar phase, will Arsenal and Spurs be able to pull through as Liverpool did? only time will tell.
Meireles will be a substantial loss to Liverpool in their push for Champions league football next season. If Liverpool had the option of Meireles against stoke, they could have grabbed the equalizer or even a winner. Despite loosing Meireles, Liverpool will continue to push in the right direction. A few new signings in January or next summer will strengthen an already strong squad. Adam Johnson and a possible Torres return would bring serious excitement back to Liverpool. Eriksen would add creativity to a midfield that lacks that extra bit of creative spark. Gary Cahill who is Englands best defender at the moment would ultimately replace Carragher.

And the price for your fantasy is at least 80M

Liverpool can't afford such money however I bet there will be some who think we can?

Poster's keep saying that "get Cahill in january to replace Carragher" what did we buy Coates for? Alphared

Coates is a replacement for Agger who is vastly over rated

Anytime agger brings the ball up field he unleaches a shot from 30-40 yards that flies high up over the bar, what a waste!

As Agger said in a recent interview "Liverpool are a big club and competition for places is normal for a club like Liverpool".

Sell CARROL to harry for £25 million and buy Torres from Chelsea for £30 million Rush came back

This post is ridiculous. I don't know where to begin in picking it apart.

Sell Carroll for 20M and buy Falcao for 35M

We should have bought Falcao to start with, he's even better than suarez

I wish Torres back, too. Chelsea doesn't suit his style. He can still be great for us. But with all that said, I don't think we'd go for him. And thats not disappointing at all. Hope, there would be a new striker signed in January. YNWA

He's at atletico he went for 35m euros

Like the Ed's have said Torres wont be coming back! he's burnt to many bridge's especially the one to Kenny! if Kenny do'es take him back i'd be very very surprised! Alphared

Kennny wants success and will do what he has to do to get it.

He will show no remorse in any decision that's how he previously operated

Morning all
I want to thank Ed001 for his post last night, urging all Liverpool fans not to subscribe to Sky. I personally have never had it, partly for reasons of charging people exorbitant sums for watching our national game I may add.
But its becoming increasingly apparent that the Murdoch's links to their journalists was more hands-on than they claimed. So if that old **** gave the ok for the hillsborough story, that should be enough for all of us.
Bin your Sky.
The Real KB

Then where will the money come from to keep the EPL going? Murdoch is a old person but he has made the EPL the best league in the world. Your thoughts please..

RedSHP

I couldnt agree more!

Dont Buy the Sun

RedSHP,
Murdoch's relationship with The Sun should be ample reason for any Liverpool fan.
But yes Sky have overseen some positive measures to English football. Most of which go in the players' back pocket, whilst fans get priced out of seeing a game. But you say he has made EPL the best league in the world. By what measure, its hype, commercialiastion ?
Or English teams success in Europe ? Which is almost as good as 70s - 85, before he was involved..
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - how is moving games to ridiculous kick off times to suit Sky improving the game? Money is destroying the English game, not improving it.}

Indeedy ed001. Perfect example last night. QPR game kicked off at 8pm. Toon fans probably got home at 6 this morning. And paid 100 quid no prob for the pleasure. Ridiculous.
The Real KB {Ed001's Note - if the games were played on Saturday at 3pm I would be able to go, because they aren't it makes it damn near impossible for me to arrange to get there. I am sure that I am one of many who misses out due to that.}

I have toyed with it many a time. However, a bit of football is the only thing a working man can enjoy nowadays.

Whilst I manage to get to all the home games, you've got more chance of platting fog than you have getting tickets for away games through the official source. I manage to get to away games when somebody in the circuit drops out, so what else can you do when you can't get a ticket. In any event, if you cancel your subscription and go to the pub to watch the game, the money you put behind the bar contributes to the SKY fee.

Ozone

Ozone,
There was a time, pre-sky, when Liverpool would regularly take 10,000+ fans to away games.
But I take your point. I stream the match, radio or good old MotD if I can't get to the match.
I can live with that.

But all bias aside, but i have to admit we wasted 50 mil on carroll and henderson...mata is younger than downing and sturridge is twice the player as carroll

It actually seems, that rather than putting pro-Liverpool bias aside, you've opted to go in the opposite direction with some Chelsea bias. Well done for deducing that Mata is younger than Downing. Sturridge is a good player, yes, but a different type of striker to Carroll. Have some patience, be an actual fan and support the players. I'm sick of repeating that we've only played a few games this season.

Rush

This post makes no sense what so ever. How does mata being younger than downing make Henderson a waste of money? We paid £16m for a player who is captain of the England Under 21 team. He is a long term signing not to be judged after 4 games.

What has Mata's age got to do with anything? Downing is a winger (we needed width) and Mata plays threw the middle.

In addition to what you say about Carroll/Sturidge. Firstly there 2 completly different players with different assets.

Sturridge hadnt had a sniff at the Chelsea team and looked to be heading to obscurity! Bolton signed him on loan at the same time Spurs were offering £25-30m for Carroll. Sturridge may now look like a decent player (6 months o from when Chelsea were trying to flog him)

I am 100% convinced that if the club had sold Torres and replaced him with Sturidge you (as I) would of been questioning the ambition of the club/owners and manager.

I hate the way people come on here obviously dont think about what they are writting or obviously just lack knowledge.

Since Jan the club has bought 9 first team players. We are missing our captain and your slagging the team after 4 games?

Is it your money? Has the price of any signing prevented us signing anyone? Be greatful that the owners have invested so much in the squad. The whole top and bottom of it is every player that has came in has improved our squad whilst every player that left will not be missed.

Next you will be saying Alonso was a bad signing because Ronaldo was better. Get a grip grow up and learn a few things about football.

Huyton Red

Why do you say 'we' when youre transparently not a Liverpool supporter?

cozinoz

Sturridge is too similar a player to suarez. We were looking at a target man, n that is why we went for carrol. He was the only option available after llorente rejected us n real made it clear benzema was not for sale. plz dont criticize downing, he has been fantastic so far.

Any chance we can have a new page for Liverpool FC SUPPORTERS!.. Then the banter page can be left to the Imbeciles and gatecrashers that seem intent on talking Utter rubbish and slagging off the team as a whole and its individual players!
I am kidding by the way.. however, it is getting boring reading the same old cr*p over and over..
ItsNotRocketScience

I agree mate, that's why I hardly post anymore. Too many mancs, bluenoses and other mooncats pretending to be LFC fans, plus a few 'real' supporters who are a total embarrassment to the club. Killing this great site to be honest, the eds have been great but their work is cut out right now.
Milamber {Ed002's Note - Perhaps if the Liverpool fans did not put so much effort in to going to the pages of other clubs (Manchester United) and trying to be disruptive then it would not happen on the Liverpool pages so much.}

Don't see any problem with going onto other pages Ed & giving out a bit of stick. Back in the good old days, there only was the 1 page for all fans to use. It was a bit close to the knuckle at times but good fun as well. What I think we would all love to see is people signing off. What I also notice Ed that the Eds on the Man Utd & Everton site are more selective in posts they put thru from non fans ( especially Everton), where as here maybe not so much. In fact I have never had a post posted on the Everton banter site. I would never be nasty, but little digs about selling the family silver such as Arteta! All to no avail.

The Irish Rover {Ed002's Note - The problem is that folks complain. I don't have anything to do with the Everton page but I would moderate the posts on the Manchester United and Liverpool pages to the same extent.}

I agree entirely. This site is fast becoming pointless.

Red Owl

I'd like to see team colours next to each poster's name. Banter is fun when you know who you are up against but the people that do my head in are the anonymous posters who pretend to be LFC supporters and slag off our club and players. We could still go to other clubs' pages but at least the banter would be honest.

cozinoz

I expect fans of other teams to come on here and give it large with some banter, as some of us go on their pages to do the same.. what annoys me is reading 'so called Lfc Fans' slagging off our team!
Be critical, be honest, have an opinion but we win as a team and we lose as a team, the time for discussing individual players in in the transfer window.. during the season we should support anyone wearing that red shirt!

Suarez is a Top Player and any Top player like to win trpohy. Suarez can be unhappy if we continue like that. but its start of the EPL a win will bring the Happyness in the club. and yes Suarez want more top class player in front row its every player want. gerrard back this week will bring thing right.

I appreciate that English may not be your first language, but still... Suarez doesn't seem unhappy because of internal situations at the club, more because he has such a desire to win that he becomes furious with his teammates ad himself when we struggle. Give it some time, we're still in all the cup competitions!

Saurez will be unhappy if we continue like what? Dominating a game? 74% possession? creating 16 chances to score? Was only a lack of a finishing touch that stopped us. Whats Saurez's job again?

It was just 1 of them days. Get real.

Huyton Red

If Suarez is unhappy it can only be with himself with that miss at the end of the Stoke game! but who said he was unhappy? Alphared

To those posting that we should have kept £35m of the Torres money for spending in the summer you are totally missing the point. The fact are that Torres handed in a transfer request with very little time of the January window left. Having already signed Suarez the summer plans to try and sign Carroll were brought forward. With Torres pushing to go and the transfer window rapidly closing LFC negotiated an agreement with Chelsea whereby Chelsea would pay £15m more for Torres than Liverpool would have to pay to purchase his replacement. Our first bid of £20m was rejected by the Barcodes, bids of £25m and £30m were also rejected. Had the Barcodes accepted a bid of £20m Chelsea would have got Torres for £35m. The deal struck with Chelsea for a disenchanted and probably past his best Torres did not give LFC an option to pocket £35m. The only reason why Carroll has a £35m price tag because the Barcodes exploited the situation and Chelsea were stupid enough to fund it. Kenny would rather have the young, committed but raw Carroll as opposed to the selfish, past his best Torres. Bottom line is that the price received for Torres funded Suarez and Carroll. This was by all accounts a very good deal for the club. Carroll is our player and committed to our cause. He deserves our 100% backing. As DC has said in an interview yesterday we have bought players not for the immediate but for 2, 3 and 4 years down the line. The strategy is clear and deserves 100% of our backing. Reality Red

Do any of the Eds have information as to whether there was a direct link between the price paid for Torres and the price paid for Carroll. If so, which way around was it?

Ash {Ed001's Note - sort of, we set the price based on the amount we had to pay out to sign a replacement.}

Cheers Ed, but could we have got the 50 mil if we weren't looking for a replacement and have just said "that's the price?" my feeling is Chelsea would have paid that regardless. Cheers

Ash {Ed001's Note - hard to say, Chelsea might have baulked at the price if we didn't have that obvious price to set it at.}

13 Sep 2011 10:14:19
I made my feelings crystal clear about Carroll, Adam and Downing long before they signed: I NEVER wanted them. I could not understand why we'd want those players when we could undoubtably get better, especially at those prices.

But they came, they signed and were LFC players.
It then stopped being about what I thought about.
My obligation, my duty, was to get behind them.
Whatever I thought of them and their price tags, it mattered NO MORE.

My disapprobation and criticism of them, however valid, became an irrelevance.
They had signed; the money was paid.
I had to fulfil my obligation: SUPPORT them.

What I'm saying is that, criticisms, no, no, no, MOANS, on Carroll's fee and purchase are, quite frankly, as much use as a comb to a bald man, utterly useless.
Further, they're damaging, annoying, unhelpful and undesirable, as are those okes who make them.

Ffs! Get over it! Ashley won't be refunding no £35m to no one.
Carroll WILL be a Liverpool player for a good while. By all means do criticise his performances, but refrain from questioning his purchase and the £35m, the latter's irrelevant.

What I've been seeing isn't just criticism, but downright disparaging and vicious attacks on this kid, and, to an extent, on his person.

Give the poor wretch a chance. Criticise but do not impugn.
Criticise only insofar as is relevant.

I see there's been a couple of postings about Torres. Look, my position in this matter is clear: he may not be what he was 2-3 years ago, but he's still capable of making an important contribution.

We know how to use him, he's attuned to our surroundings and game, we can reinvigorate his hunger and gusto.
If there exist a possibility that he can come back, we should study that possibility.
At £20m, he can be an important addition.

But saying that, I don't think there's a possibility of him coming back. Should he leave Chelsea, I bet Malaga or PSG beckon.
Nevertheless, I share BooDaBooz and Duckula's sentiments.
It could be important that we study the possibility of bringing (the prodigal son, perhaps?) Nando back.
Lastly, Huyton Red, The RealKB, Get real, what's the latest on the stadium issue, fellas? What looks to be our best or most likely option right now: stay or move house?
I enjoy your discussions, lads, keep them up.

Baie dankie

Ray Burmeister

Burmeister,
I don't have any info as such. I was responding with my opinion to Huyton Red. To be fair to him, he did provide sound answers, albeit with some assumptions. But he's heard that a naming partner/s is lined up.
He's defo provided food for thought and he's been good enough to pass the info on to us.
I still think its too high risk for the owners at the moment. I've said in the past i couldn't see us starting a new stadium in the next 10th yrs, and I stick to that view.
But that's just my view. Not heard info apart from macca's snippet recently.
The Real KB

The only thing wrong with ur post is those 3 players are good enough and i thing carroll will be a hit as will hendo wait till gerrard gets back and i think with gerrard and henderson and kelly forrraging down the right and downing and and enrique down the left we will have enough amunition to shoot us to the top then u will see the best of carroll and suarez

What the hell is happening with all these people talking about Torres coming back. We don't need him, he walked out on us, there is no way back. Lets concentrate on the squad we have Andy Carroll will be awesome, take a few weeks for his confidence to peak, then watch him go, only get that with games. We will get it right, meanwhile Craig will hold the fort, only fault in my opinion is that i wouldn't have Suarez up front on his own. Gonna be interesting when Stevie gets back.

The way he's playing, maybe Liverpool could think about getting Torres back on a free transfer? Its a funny thing about
leaving Liverpool, Keegan went on to hamburg but was never the same player, Rush went to Juventus and could'nt score,
we got him back again and he started scoring again. Owen could not stop scoring in a Liverpool shirt, he goes to Real,
and does pretty much nothing, same at Newcastle, same at ManU. Torres also leaves and can't score in a brothel afterwards. Can anyone explain this amazing physical phenomenon?

RedAce

Owen was great at Madrid but couldn't get a start and was never considered a galactico but still got into double figures before he was moved on for not having star quality

Keegan was actually twice European Player of the Year and won a Bundesliga at Hamburg.
But he'd have won a shed more at Liverpool.
I have to defend him cos he was my fave player when i was a kid.

Half the majority over here going on about give Carroll a chance and we r nt true LFC supporters if we don't support him...where were all of u when poulsen was getting slagged off...he too should have been given a chance...if a player doesn't play well it means he is not playing well whether he is a 35mil or a 5mil player

Sure but there is a MASSIVE difference between Poulsen and Carroll.

Carroll has been rated by many many people as England's next super striker. The more chances he gets and the more game time he gets, the better he will become. Ask the Geordies how much they miss him and what they think of him.

You must be totally deluded to compare the two.

You have every right to criticize players BUT you must also be realistic. Not everyone can come in and shine immediately like Suarez or Aguero. Some people need longer to settle. Carroll is one of them.

No one liked Poulsen and I mean no one and that's why we all criticized him. Yet there are many of us who know what Carroll can do and that's why we continue to support him.

Hopefully Bellamy will fill in while Carroll continues to learn and we can continue to win games.

We were extremely unlucky at the Britannia. We performed 10 times better than our opposition away from home. Our performance should be admired as it was very very good. Last season at this point in time we didn't even play that well at home.

Watch us teach the Spuds manners.

Poulsen is 31, Carroll is 22 - Poulsen's never played well for us. This comparison is riduculous.

Anybody watch the drugs in football programme? Was a bit rubbish. Kept waiting for a bombshell that never happened.
Strange tho that a handful of clubs had several missed drugs tests on players. Portsmouth. Everton fulham and man city namely. I wonder if players were sneaked out the back door while the testers were kept waiting at the front desk lol
Overall tho a xrap programme.
does anybody have any views or other conspiracies? I remember waiting for an imminent match fixing scandal but looks like that never happened.

Carroll playing behind Suarez would give Carroll a little more time on the ball. Then we would see more of those left footed volleys we have been expecting. Plus Suarez would cause many a problem in & around the penalty box.

Carroll would be useless behind Suarez. That is not his position and he would be even worse than his current performance.

It's well documented Carroll was a summer target. We had our hand forced early, hence a high price was paid.

Comolli has since said that he was a target for the summer. When the opportunity to sign him arose in January, the club took it. Check RAWK or the Four Four Two Issue where Carroll was the cover star for exact quotations.

if torres came back then he did us a favour because if we buy him it wont be more than 30mil so he made us gain 20m

If he stays away he made us 30. we bought him for 20. dont want him back he has a worse record now than all our other strikers and most of our midfield

MIKEY

I wouldn't pay 30m for Torres. On this and last season's form he's not worth more than 10m. I'm ecstatic we cashed in on him when we did. Ker-ching.

cozinoz

Thing is we really didn't make any money of Torres. We bought suarez for 20m and bought a been pole for 35m. So in essence we didn't actually make anything off the sale as our "profit" was sent straight down the toilet.

If what you're saying is true, we've never made money on a player because of the cost of players who've come into the squad. Don't be foolish. Net figures are important in a business and what you're saying shows that you lack a clue. Suarez and Carroll's purchases have no effect on what money was made on Torres, regardless of where that money was re-appropriated.

Rush

Torres is hated here no doubt but if you put away sentimen he's comeback could be epic?

He's the most natural goalscorer Liverpool have had since Fowler.

Bring back El Nino

Sort out the begruders later!

Do the bitters on this page expect us to win every game this season? No player to have a bad game? Carra to never be in the spotlight? Team to gel after 12 weeks?
Get real angry armchairs & understand that we were in a right state a year ago, and we are in much better shape now.
We will lose games this season, some players will make mistakes, refs will always make poor decisions, it's part of the game!
If you'd rather see Carroll, Henderson et al somewhere else then f## k off and support someone else as we don't care for your sky sports over hyped instant success opinion.
Maybe learn about our club and understand that we could have gone under due to the last pair of monkeys on board and now we are starting again.
One loss and the pro evo crew are out in more numbers that a spud on riot night.
Apart from that rant, I'm doing ok!

I've been trying ever since we signed Andy Carroll to justify his price tag and performance. But tbh he is unbelievably poor. He unsettles the team, when we usually play pass and move without him, he disrupts the system as the players all seem to just boot the ball up to him. He seems lazy, unfit, slow and isn't even being dangerous at all in the air and a complete lack of a will to win.

I don't usually like to slack of players but he has been awful. I say sell him and buy in another top quality striker.

Also I think we made a mistake in selling both Aquilani (loan) and Meireles as there is sometimes a lack of creativity in our midfield (especially when Adam and Gerrard are out). Ed what are the chances of Ibrahim Afellay or Cristian Eriksen joining in January?

Thanks mate, take care,

maka {Ed001's Note - highly unlikely mate. Hard to see why you feel there is a lack of creativity considering the number of chances created against Stoke.}

Exactly Ed. We had numerous chances. had we converted them, none of these jokers would be on this site criticizing our squad.

Why you trying to justify his price tag? What difference does it make? Did it stop us getting anyone else we wanted? No!

Just get behind the lad ay
