There are some fantastic free agents this summer, although things will change we could go for these or offer minimal amounts in jan:

Defenders:
Marcel de Jong good young defender
Breno - quality young centre back
Gary Cahill - fantastic, England first choice + quite young
Ledley king - quality, however injury prone
Douglas - young, strong centre back
Mario Gaspar - good, young back-up left back

Midfield:
Sen Kehl - quality, in the hole player + young
Farfan - brilliant right winger, just what's needed
Hoilett - skilful, young right or left winger, just what needed
Muntari - good solid centre mid
De Rossi - high wages but great player
S.Ninis - another brilliant in the hole player, either him or Kehl

Strikers:
Raul - backup up striker similar to owen
Kalou - good striker/winger, prem proven
Rodallega - good striker, prem proven
Okaka chuka - very young promising striker
Saviola - very young promising striker
C.Rodriguez - very young promising striker/winger

If I could buy any of these players I would have:
Gary Cahill + Breno - centre back
Gaspar to replace aurielio who will leave
Kehl/Ninis to fill the 'hole'
Hoillett + Farfan to strengthen both wings
Saviola/Rodriguez/okaka for back up striker
Spend money saved on top quality striker.

You are right, there are some good free transfers coming up, but Saviola is certainly not a very young anything. He'll be 30 next year, Rodriguez 25/26 and Okaka 23. De Rossi would be awesome for me.

Ash

Speaking about free agents does the name JOE COLE STRIKE a bell

Wow you must have an awesome fifa 12 team

Heard a big rumour that we are tracking Ricky Villa. Apparently he's had a massive bust-up with Ossie Ardiles. His age may be a factor, but if he stands in the six yard box some of our wayward shots might well hit him and go in. Worth a punt. What say you eds?

SpanishChris {Ed001's Note - better than some of the options being suggested, he would score more than Defoe that's for sure!}

Defoe has scored more goals so far this season than any pool player

Lies! Suarez has one more.

Eds, and anyone else who may know.

Recently, Stevie and Carra have been out of the team, leaving Reina to be our captain. If, for any reason, Reins is not on the team sheet along with Stevie and Carra, who would be our captain? Basically, who is our vice vice vice captain!

Any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks, James. {Ed001's Note - Kuyt.}

What if Kuyt isnt playing aswell?

The way I see it that Lambias in the Mirror has done us a favour.

Hope Carrolls bought a copy and stuffs his words down his throat when we meet them and shows how wrong he is.

Spriggo

Too right Spriggo.
I think there must be a clause in the job description for Newcastle Chairman - must be a loudmouth **** !
Cos the others were the same.
The Real KB

How has Llambias done Liverpool a favour?
Everyone knows Newcastle couldn't believe their luck that Liverpool stupidly parted with 35m for Carroll.
The fact that this opinion has been apparently shared by a Newcastle representative is irrelevant.
Reading confirmation from a Newcastle representative, which everyone knows to be true, in that Liverpool bought a donkey for 35m will not make that donkey a better donkey!
Clutching at straws me thinks!

The guy is an absolute arse, but he is right about one thing. They knew we had £50 mil from the Torres deal so they pulled our pants down over the Andy Carroll deal. Well and truly. I'm not AC's biggest fan, but I so hope he bangs in a hat-trick at St Jam.....The Sports Direct Arena when we go there.

Ash

We may of overpaid for Carroll but we underpaid for Enrique, plus spurs offered 25 mill.
TIZER RED

We overpaid for Carroll, everyone knows that. Get over it! He is one of our lads now support him, regardless of his transfer fee.

Should also say a MASSIVE thank you to Lambias, I would not want to be either of the CB's for Newcastle when Big Andy comes around.......

Over-paid for Carroll, under-paid for Suarez and Enrique.

I think liverpool shold go for the brazillian trio of coutinho, lucas moura and damiao, imagine the first team line:

reina
kelly coates agger jose
lucas gerrard
Coutinho Lucas Moura
Suarez
L.Damiao

Yeah, us and every other team...

That's 12? {Ed002's Note - Lucas Moura is one person.}

13 Nov 2011 22:10:44
Does Derek Llambias post on here ?
"Carroll's worth **** all" !
Sounds like one of our posters I'm sure.
Apparently we were late with a payment to Newcastle and Llambias was bragging they charged LFC £12k interest.
What a nice man he is.
The Real KB

And what are they calling St James Park now ?
I hope we stay at Anfield, and it's still called Anfield.
The Real KB

Wouldn't worry too much about Lambias, KB. I know a few Geordie lads and they hate him, Feel sorry for Pardew because as soon as the miracle he is pulling of at the moment wears off, and Newcastle lose a couple in a row the fans are waiting like Lions that haven't been fed, despite the 'decent' job Ashley has actually done....

Jatt YNWA

p.s. wouldn't worry about Anfield, the Owners have categorically denied they will ever sell the naming rights.

What if their telling porkies?

Eds, i believe for liverpool to push on further, we need a creative midfielder, some one who can play just behind the striker and link up play, and also a pacey right winger, with that in mind who do you think are liverpool's most realistic targets, and also do you believe luuk de jong is good enough and also one last thing do you believe adam johnson has the right attitude and would you be happy with that signing? Great site eds, doing a fantastic job! {Ed002's Note - It is your view that these players are needed so don't expect me to say who the realistic targets are. As for De Jong he is someone the club have shown interest in, I am not in a position to say if he is "good enough" for Liverpool or not.}

Hi eds just wandering if you think that footballers play too much footie is a myth. My reason for that is because players like Messi, Suarez and others seem to just keep on playing and rarely get injured. But on the other side of the argument players like Fowler,Owen Woodgate and Gerrard pick up a lot of injuries.

So is it down to the players and how they look after themselves or is it pure luck? Nowadays the pitches are like bowling greens so they cant blame it on them.

Do you believe that there is to much put on to players at an early age and they get burnt out? Eg: fowler and owen.

Cheers
mighty reds {Ed009's Note - I would say that starting too much, too young certainly has some part to play in it, but the main things that impact on it are returning to soon from injuries, which means they are unable to fully recover, pure luck but also certain players have more brittle bones etc leading to a greater chance of injury.}

It is also stupid how you have compared Messi and Suarez to Owen, Fowler, Woodgate and Gerrard.

Its also whats in their diet. Messi and Suarez when younger would have been eating foods with olive oil, fish etc...wheres Owen Woodgate would have been brought up with mushy peas and chips. Uk footy is all about putting your energy in tackling where abroad the focus is pass n move. Less strain on the body. Well thats some factors. Dont forget its colder here and your body takes longer to warm up which makes getting injured more easier

to have any chance of qualifying for CL next season, we need to improve the first XI. Kenny's summer signings improved the squad (debatable) but the first XI has in fact gotten worse. We need to play a 4-3-3 system. Of our current players, here are the ones that should stay:

Reina

Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique

Gerrard Lucas x

Suarez x x

We need a 3rd attacking midfielder, two strikers, and, if possible a back up to Gerrard as Henderson is not cutting it. Hazard and Goetze are not practical. If we pick actual gettable signings, we could choose 1 from each of this category and have guaranteed CL:

AM: Kagawa, Reus, Ramirez, Honda, Moura

Striker: Podolski, Damiao, Villa, Cavani

if we can only get one striker, Kuyt or Bellamy can play as the extra 3rd.

Henderson is " not cutting it " because he is being played out of position, he's not a RW he is a CM and a very good one, jus look at the games he plays for the England u21s, hes the best player on the pitch, by far, if kenny puts him in the middle he will shine

You wouldn't get damiao he would be spurs bound if he came over

Gerrard can be used as a striker to great effect, therefore I would just get a young cost efective option i.e. De Jong (£12m), I would try to lure Ramirez for £15m as an attacking mid. I dont think there is any chance of Villa, Moura, Damiao, Cavani. Whichever team buys Martinez will have a very strong centre mid, he is the type of player we need to get our midfield strong again (i.e. pre Xabi's departure). With Gerrard, Lucas, Adam, Henderson and Spearing, I can't see Martinez being bid for unless Spearing is off loaded and we play 4-3-3, shame.

So, in the end is Podolski a target of Liverpool or just a player we are having a brief look at? Is he a realistic buy?

Apparently he is being looked at. Prob on a list of targets that include luuk de Jong. Would be an excelent signing in my opinion.

Podolski would be a terrible acquistion.

Ed001, i saw today that liverpool have qualified for the next round of nextgen through lisbons win, the question is why has it taken so long to organise this sort of competition for the youngsters? to me it seems it is benificial to all, with different cultures of football crucial in the development of youngsters, im really looking forward to the next round where we can fully see the extent of our players ability against the best in the age group. Reserve level football is in dire need of change in my opinion, but has there been a competion like this before and is it a stayer or a one off thing?
cheers ed

Red Maverick {Ed002's Note - There is no way we can answer why it took so long to organize such a competition. There have been various ad hoc equivalnts in the past but nothing at this level.}

Ed i saw you say earlier that it is not just that easy to get courtinho, why is that? {Ed001's Note - because there are a lot of interested clubs, he will have a choice where he goes.}

Hate international weekends. Boring, Boring, Boring. Could not bring myself to watch England game. Watched
Formula-1 today. Can someone explain to me were the sport is in that? Gerrard spends 90 mins running box-to-box, maybe Liverpool could have a formula-1 racing car on the side lines so he can get back in 3 seconds flat by sitting on the back of the car? Even Old trafford must be more exciting than being in the crowd at a F1 event, - look there goes another car going 300mph. Gerrard lifts the european cup after running constantly for 90 mins. Today, Lewis Hamalton parks his car, gets out, walks upstairs and poor a bottle of champagne over his head? It would be more of a sport if he drank the bottle of champagne before the race started. Hate international weekends.... Who's up next against Liverpool?

Maybe go outside? Whenever I go into Birkenhead I turn it into a sport. Try and guess how many prams I will see between 2 random shops. Bonus points if the baby's look like me and the mums stare at me like they met me once. Haha

what a week to be a Liverpool and England fan, Kelly and Hendo impress for the u21s, England thrash Spain 1-0 Bellamy scores an amazing goal, Suarez gets four and now he says that he is already thinking of extending his time at Anfield beyond his five year contract. Hopefully this good fortune will hold out until Saturday and we pick up 3 from The Bridge
RustyNigels

Nothing worse in this world than loving football and being english. England stop a great football team from playing football and nick a goal, wonderful - don't it make you proud to be English? I'll put on that jersey when england play spain off the pitch. Now can we get back to some real football?

England never trashed spain.

It was most one sided 1-0 defeat for spain just like against swiss in WC2010.
Nevertheless win is a win.

Rest of them are true.

Abhi

Appears i need to clarify that "England trash Spain" was meant as a sort of inside joke, here in England whenever we win a game the press hype England up a lot and all of a sudden we are the best side in the world:)

Bellamy and Carroll up front and Suarez in a free role anyone?

Totally agree mate.
Would be awesome :-)

Better would be Suarez with the one of two. Hope, Carroll would answer the critics soon. Wish him all the best. YNWA

hi Ed's. Shelvey is doing well @ blackpool. Where his loan spell expire @ da end of december. Iam hollaway has moved Shelvey up behind da front 2. He now scored 5 goals in 7 games. Including a hatrick @ leeds. What are da chances of shelvey playing for Liverpool in that position when he gets back after da loan spell. By the well done to suarez on netting 4 goals for his country on friday.
Hoosen. Durban Sa RED. {Ed001's Note - only Kenny can answer that question, though I do think that is the position he will end up filling in the next few years.}

Hope, Shelvey's loan would be extended till the end of the season, if we don't have space for him. he can become a massive influence to the team in the coming years. YNWA

Im amazed that ED001 answered da question, as it has a lot of da's in it and it took me ten minutes to understood what it said in the da short time da I had to read da, lah. Podolski would be an excellent signing for January or summer. He is a good 1 in 3 striker, struggled a bit at bayern but he was fighting for a place against kloser and toni at the time. I believe he would arrive with a point to prove and a real hunger to do well and score loads of goals. If he could replicate his form for the national side, more like 1 in 2 we could have another special striker, and a goal scorer to replace Torres.

MIKEY

Zamora is probably at the same level now. Podolski is a bit of a gamble IMO.

Zamora is a bit gamble not Podolski. his movment and he good in the air so I like podolski what do u think guys ?

Podolski has quite similar style like Bellamy. I don't think he is a great goal scorer, but a good player, indeed.

He wouldn't and probably never will. He wasn't that good at Bayern but he got the chances. Plus at Koln his hometown he isnt doing much. Bring him to the premierleague let alone Liverpool you will see why Dirk Kuyt is a much superior player in a similar position.

I've been watching a fair bit of Serie A recently and one player who has caught my eye as a future talent is on-loan Juventus winger Cristian Pasquato.

He's currently at Lecce on loand and I think he could be a future star. He has a hell of a lot of pace and skill and can play up front and just off the striker as well as on the wings.

I know this is just pulling a name out of the hat but I would love to see this lad playing for us in a few years.

Just wondered Ed what you make of all the negativity towards many of our new signings? Personally i think Adam, Downing and Carrol will turn out to be great for our team and some of the younger players yet to play in 1st team are great signings. But as a True Liverpool supporter i have to be honest and say i think too many of us have got carried away with how good we would be this year. I think next season the players will gel properly and we should be a force, but even then a truly think we won't have a solid chance of winning league, champions league cup etc until 2013-2014 season? Maybe we can win FA, league cup this time around and possibly get top 4 spot but not holding my breath.

Also i think Adam Johnson and while silly talk..Tevez would be bad signings for us in terms of their attitudes.
Anyway, just wondered how you felt about our realistic goals and ability of players we have purchased?

Thxs, great site {Ed001's Note - personally I find it pathetic how some fans have already decided that certain players aren't good enough. These same 'supporters' spent years booing Lucas and slagging him off at every opportunity. I just wonder when they will learn to actually support the players and give them a chance to prove themselves? Personally I never wanted us to sign Carroll, but I trust that the scouting and coaching staff know what they are doing and look forward to the lad proving me completely wrong. As for our prospects for the season, I think top 6 would be a good season following the way last season went, that I would be happy with. I do think we have a very good chance of finishing in the top 4 though, just.}

Lucas is still crap he had a handful of decent performances. We conceded nearly a goal a game so who was protecting the back 4. Carroll is embarrassing he makes my gran look mobile. Downing seems to keep running the ball out of play or running in to dead ends. Henderson should have stayed at Sunderland its like we didn't even sign him he has been anonymous.The eds have their own opinion and fans have their on.Read the daily mirror mate and see what the Newcastle chief said about Carroll i totally agree.

I'm a spurs fan and I come on here for the banter, don't get much with the goon heads their sense of humour is like the atmosphere in their ground non existent! west ham we have the banter local, chelsea! don't mean nothing to us! but on to my point, think you underestimate the job lucas does for you, were in the luxury of having I think two better in parker and sandro, treasure what you have!!

Ha parker and sandro ?? parker maybe a little better than lucas, jus because of his age an reading of the game because of it but sandro isnt fit enough to lace lucas's boots pal, lucas is going to be brazil captain at the next world cup, ive already put a tenner on it at william hill

Looks like you are going to be £10 light then doesnt it?

13 Nov 2011 01:03:20
as of now, who do you see as the most likely replacement for steven gerrard? as it cant be long until we bring some body in to replace him

There is no-one playersvthat comes close to his all round game. You would perhaps have to buy 2 top players to cover what he gives to the team e.g. Martinez & Lucas Moura... but even then, can they hit them from 40 yrds - when it matters most?

Jermaine Jenas!

Agree with the first poster. 2 top players to cover what he gives to the team.

Its like the Alonso situation. Alonso had our range and our tackling..now we need them separately. We're still looking for our range, but Lucas is our tackler, so it works out.

But I do believe Gerrard's successors are already at the club in Hendo and Shelvey.

Greetings Eds....

What i feel that LFC was lacking in RW,CB & FW.
For RW-Adam Johnson or Marko Marin
For CB-Mats Hummels or Mateo Musacchio
For FW-Stevan Jovetić or Leandro Damiao

YNWA-G315T

Why would Adan Johnston got to Liverpool when he's now used to winning games at city, a step backwards for him methinks.......

Because he isn't getting a game at Man City and doesn't get on with Mancini. A move to Liverpool would suit both parties.

Personally I dont think Johnston is a liverpool type of player. He goes missing in matches and Ive heard he doesnt like training, poor attitude now that hes 'made it' maybe ?

Hi eds

I was wondering on your opinion if a change of formation to team might suit us better, dropping from 2 strikers to 1 and playing a creative attacking midfielder who would drop back into a central 3 to try and dominate centre of park.

Obv choice was Gerrard but i'd like to see Hendo played with Lucas and Adam behind and Suarez up top.

Still beleive Carroll will come good but just wondered if this might generate greater attacking possession higher up park, especially at Anfield against the bottom half of table.

D 2308 {Ed009's Note - I think that Suarez with Gerrard just behind him is a fantastic idea, with Adam and Lucas in the middle of the park. I imagine Kenny will give much consideration to this set up's ability to provide Suarez with more clear goalscoring opportunities he can put away.}

.................Reina.................

Kelly.......Skrtel..Agger....Enrique

Bellamy......Lucas......Downing

I would be more than happy if liverpool
brought k.honda in as RW/CAM and Leandro Damiao ST
max spent in jan:30million

Aquilani - out = 10 million
Maxi - out = 5 million
Aurelio - out 3 - 5 million
Kuyt - out - 10 million

You're way off the figures for these player sales:

Aquilani - out = 10 million = £5M
Maxi - out = 5 million = £2M
Aurelio - out 3 - 5 million = FREE
Kuyt - out - 10 million = £4M

Football Manager this ain't!

Football manager this ain't? Well psychic you ain't!
Aquilani fee is pointless anyway, as hes cost us so much money, we won't get nothing back from him. The fee he is sold for will be more than £5m though!
Maxi is worth a little bit more than £2m i feel, but who knows. Aurelio won't be sold. Kuyt will only be sold if we get a decent offer and £4m for a player who if played up top, guarantees us 10-15 goals a season is not a good offer.

You can guess prices all you want, but don't ridicule somebody else and suggest your guesses are fact.

YNWA! (Adam)

Kuyt will be 32 if he's sold...probably no more than £5-6m.

Maxi will be over 30...more likely to leave on a free, if anything, but no more than £2m.

Aquilani...have you forgotten that we will still get the loan fee? the money paid for aquilani has already been accounted for. We will get at least £5m for him.

Aurelio...will probably leave on a free.

Cole...not sure, we might get a few million for him.

Its all about reducing the wage bill, as the above are surplus/fringe players (except kuyt).
