Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

13 May 2015 23:20:39
Hi ed's obviously lots of talk about transfers in and out.

I was just wanting to know your thoughts as to who is considered the best prospect in our U21's Ojo, Wilson, Kent, Canos, Sinclair as the main ones to compare?

I personally like to think with the right tutelage and strategic loans. We could see all of them as players who could make a difference in the next few years!

Thanks for your opinion!

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I have no way of measuring them against each other. Ojo is expected to do well.}

14 May 2015 09:40:09
Ojo, Brannagan and Canos are probably the best at the academy now. Still a lot of young talent though.

Rumours now of Fonte from Southampton. True or Not, how do you guys and EDs rate him? Is it a case of just rekindling the Lovren partnership? Did he make Lovren look good? Is he just not good enough or the perfect answer?

I don't believe successful partnerships just pick up and work elsewhere, can't think of anytime that's worked? Not including club to international. Sometimes it's just right place right time because suddenly there expectation and pressures.

I think he was the one we should have bought and probably for half the amount last summer, but that hindsight for ya.

{Ed002's Note - Don't hold your breath.}

13 May 2015 22:57:42
No more southampton players, not even if it is Schneiderlin. They are overhyped individuals who play exceptionally well together and for each other nothing more.

Agree7 Disagree2

13 May 2015 23:34:57
I would take schneiderlin in a heartbeat. They aren't overhyped. They're good quality players. Lallana has been plagued by injury and a new system and playing in and out of the team. The guy just glides across the pitch. I still think he'd be better in the middle.

Agree8 Disagree0

14 May 2015 00:56:56
Are Southampton players the only ones out there? Sheesh!

Agree4 Disagree4

14 May 2015 07:43:45
Rodgers should make it easier for all parties involved and join Southampton to manage.

Agree9 Disagree0

14 May 2015 11:12:29
Maybe Rodgers should start by trying to get the best out of the centre backs already signed ( 4 of them at close to 50 mil) rather than throw more money at the problem.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 May 2015 14:21:56
Or maybe he should just go and leave us alone.

Agree1 Disagree1

14 May 2015 15:11:32
That's would be my preference redohio but if by any chance he stays I sincerely hope he's not given more money to spend on centrebacks!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 May 2015 22:02:04
What do we do with Sterling fellow reds.

Lets face it he is no where near the finished article yet and in my view he should stay with us for a few more years at least as that way he will continue to develop and reach his potential where if he goes he will have his 1st team opportunities very limited if he joins one of the big teams such as Barcelona, Real, Bayern, and even Chelsea & Cty.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

13 May 2015 22:34:39
Maximize our sale price, and move on as Southampton have done successfully for the last few years .

Agree8 Disagree1

13 May 2015 23:26:08
Sell up and give youth a chance in his position. Why spend on a replacement n put good youth further diwn the pecking order

Agree5 Disagree1

14 May 2015 00:55:28
Sell sell sell. Sterling can't cross, he can't shoot, he can't pick a pass consistently it would be madness not to get the best price possible for him then either reinvest or commit to Ibe and other upcoming youth prospects; Ojo, Kent, Canos, Chirivella, Wilson

Agree3 Disagree1

14 May 2015 04:25:45
I actually think he could benefit at a bigger club. At least those clubs won't slot him in as a lone striker or wing back - they were sensible enough to employ quality players for those positions, unlike us. The poor kid has had a lot of weight on his shoulders, playing positions not suited to him.

I would hate to see him go, but couldn't blame him really.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 May 2015 04:47:10
speculating here -
barca real and bayern won't buy him not in a million years. As for chelsea jose will move for him if hazard throws a fit for a move to real madrid which i don't think he will , he will play for chelsea for the next season i am sure. also chelsea did buy cuadrado so may be sterling isn't the option they are looking at.
which leaves city as the front contenders and i can see him playing at city with them likely to move nasri, jovetic, dzeko and loose milner. so they will need a winger and a front player and sterling solves the equation for them.
as long as it is city i think we can a qoute a good price and move him. but as far as i see it city will balk at the price and sterling will stay
If rodgers goes i am pretty sure sterling isn't moving anywhere

Agree1 Disagree1

14 May 2015 11:15:06
I agree akshit, city also need to get their English player quota up too ( especially with Milner likely to leave) could work well in our favour.

Looks like that could be Klopp of to Madrid then, eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - hard to say, Ancelotti was leaving anyway, so I don't see why tonight would make a difference???}

13 May 2015 22:00:37
Would he go there ed !!? 3 bad games and then spoilt lot are on your back

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I honestly don't know, everyone who knows him has a different theory about where he is going. Personally I wouldn't have thought Madrid was his cup of tea, but it is the kind of job that is difficult to turn down. I know some think Loew will step down from the national team after the Euros and Klopp will step in so a year at Madrid might suit.}

13 May 2015 22:03:08
Edd001, I cannot see klopp at Madrid. I just can't see it. I know they are keen on him but for me it seems like a recipe for disaster. They have a huge ego in ronaldo who surely will start causing trouble behind the scenes. Their are top players at Madrid who surely won't accept Ronaldos antics on the pitch Which are embarrasing next season.

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I personally don't see it as a good fit for him either, it doesn't seem his type of job but you never know until he finalises his next position.}

13 May 2015 22:15:10
Thought Ancelotti leaving was dependent on them not retaining the Champions League Ed1, sorry!
Did I hear something about City wanting Ancelotti? Cause I'd take him in a heartbeat if Klopp was looking elsewhere.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - There are several jobs up in the air at the moment. Nothing will happen with CA before the end of the domestic season.}

13 May 2015 23:31:51
Just like a lot of top players won't go to a club without CL football i would assume that top managers are much the same.

Eds, there have been lots of names linked to LFC recently some unrealistic and some a possibility. Now that we are out of the champions league what are some names that are more realistic options this summer.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

13 May 2015 20:48:33
hi eds, not posted for a while but try amd come on and have a read when possible.

jus ta few things.

I know that sterling / lfc have both said the contract will get looked at again in the summer. do you think that sterling is waiting to see if BR remains as manager? I know BR claims that he has a good releationship with sterling, but is that mutual? i personally think not. sterling is a flair player, i know you do a job for the team, but its not his job to do the defensive side of things. why don't we let these players just play to there strengths just say 'go out and do your thing' and let the other players do the dirty work? BR is claming sterling is at the right club, which i do agree. but if you were a lorry driver and kept getting asked to clean the canteen, what would you think.

With regards to Gerrard, stating the obvious, but the guy is a ledgend (a term used too often in football and in life these days). Souey was saying after the game on sunday, 'why are they letting him leave'? it has been well documented all along that he wanted out if his playing time was considerably reduced, i can't fault the guy, but that is not LFC fault, its no one's its just progression.

Souey also said gerrard is LFC main man, the icon, the player fans far and wide love, buy kit, and is the first name many think of when LFC is mentioned. but who will repalce that? who will be the global icon? BR claims that we will sign a few 'marquee' players but they won't just slip into the role as mr LFC will they? henderson / coutiniho / studge are cracking players, but not at at that level / have that profile yet. what do you think? I worry, for the revenue side of things and see us slipping away

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I don't think it has anything to do with who the manager is. Don't worry about the revenue or the need for a global icon.}

14 May 2015 01:02:20
Some of these ex players need to get over themselves. SG is going and that's that. We move on.

Hi Eds 001/002,
It seems a number of teams are bringing a few youngsters through from their respective academies. Chelsea had one that looked good playing against us at the weekend and we had a few on the pitch as well, as an example.
I would like your view on how well our academy is being run and if our model is very similar to those of other EPL or other top European clubs.
Thanks in advance
Nigel

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Right now it is too early to tell Nigel as it was revamped at the beginning of the season. Liverpool do however have a number of well respected young players - I guess a good measure is how they have done in the Youth Cups and Leagues - you would need to check them out.}

13 May 2015 20:29:12
Thanks Ed002, I did a bit more research and I think the future could be quite promising. Always a little difficult to know how many will make it and at what level, but it will be interesting.
It would be good to see more of the the academy matches, so that all fans of all teams can see who to look out for in the future.

A member of AVFC's 1st team believes C.Benteke has a buy out clause (irrelevant figure)which can only be "triggered" by a club involved in the champions league or a club which has champions league qualification secured for the following season(depending on summer or Jan transfer window).the said member also believes benteke has no interest in a move to Merseyside at this time but expect a strong interest from spurs if adebayor and soldado are sold

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - He obviously has no idea what a "buy out clause" is. I imagine he is just teasing you.}

13 May 2015 21:00:23
I don't see him coming to us - he knows that if he gives another very good season without majour injuries he is likely to end up in one of the top 4. In terms of trophies next year he is probably as likely to get them in Villa as with us. I am not sure our style suits him (although I think if we were able t bring him we should have changed our game to accomodate him).

Agree0 Disagree1

13 May 2015 21:28:58
We've already got a sulk and don't need another one.

A few goals under a new manager and hea the next best thing.

Regardless of people's opinions on Roy Keane(who I don't dislike),he reckons he doesn't try hard enough even in training.

Injury prone, inconsistent, and personally, I think.He's trouble.

No need to refer to Keane's comments. You can watch him play a see his laziness on the field for yourself.

13 May 2015 19:08:23
The problem with the model of these oweners is when you want to get all so called potential talent , you need to have a good established side whilst doing so . So to that effect , fsg and Brent should have bought one or 2 top players or good quality players instead of soley buying prospects and youth . They've caught themselves halfway through it . Never really got that very good established players . Then done it !! And ballsed it up and it's a mix of potential and youth . Now I'm sure they realise it's back to the option of buying proven quality or at least trying to . Suarez gone Gerard gone and Sturridge injury prone . They've had good intentions fsg but ultimately made things hard !! Let's face it they've spent the dosh but in the wrong manner . One top quality player in coutinho . Imo iniesta successor . Only a matter of time he flies the coup .

Just like Chelsea now, about to sign kenedy and nathan. That's how to run a football club

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2015 20:14:23
The model you speak of does not exist and it is nothing but a fabrication as the Eds have said here on numerous occassions. The players with potential have been bought by BR and solely by BR and should be held accountabnle for that which he will be but the owners had nothing to do with who got bought or sold. If Alexis (chose elsewhere), Costa (condition on Suarez leaving which he did not), Willian (Chelsea and Spurs offered more than we did)and Mkhytarian (complex ownership issues which was not worth the hassle) refused to come, it is not the owners fault. They may have been duped by people including BR but I can`t fault their thoughtfulness and effort.

Agree2 Disagree5

13 May 2015 20:15:48

Evening all Eds

Any ideas why or who we have officials in italy for at the minute please?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Is this Twitter again?}

13 May 2015 19:05:35
The food and wine (not to mention the weather and the women) is fabulous in Italy. That's why i'd be there .

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - As everyone has been very good today, I am going to offer up a little opinion that relates to Italy and is perhaps something folks want to mull over. And perhaps this could be considered the "marquee" signing everyone craves?

A little bit of a wild card, but here goes. Talks with Barcelona over Kovacic have not really come to any useful conclusion and no one seems interested in putting any sort of acceptable offer on the table for him Inter need to sell a couple of midfield players to bring in the replacements they want - like Liverpool they are constrained by previous spending and the FFP rules. So, Inter now say they will keep Kovacic as no deal seems possible, and will make another player available - so I will throw the name of Brazilian Hernanes in to the ring as a player Liverpool might well consider. I appreciate that at 30 he is far from young, but he would be a very worthy free kick taking, goal scoring central midfield addition to the squad - and one to ably replace Gerrard. He is available and will be at a price that would suit Liverpool.

I would certainly advise the club to give him serious consideration.}

13 May 2015 19:29:44
Ed would we not consider kovacic then or is he just too expensive atm.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool don't value Kovacic that highly otherwise Ausilio would not have laughed at Liverpool's offer"funny little joke".}

13 May 2015 19:42:27
Thats a great insight ed002 and i hope everyone appreciates your opinion on this and take also as an opinion only. Cheers

13 May 2015 20:20:56
This, LFC fans, is why we should also treat the Eds with respect. When we don't act like @rse's we get interesting tidbits like this. Thanks Ed, for the insight.

Agree5 Disagree0

13 May 2015 21:57:55
Like to add my thanks too.

Also agree it's a shame of our low offer, but from what EDs said I can kind of understand the thought behind it, although it's still a tad embarrassing.

Agree2 Disagree0

14 May 2015 00:50:55
i don't know what inter wants for kovacic but i think the money we spent on lallana or ballo and lambert and we could have bought him instead , what is BR up to , he seems to have blinkers on or is just as stubborn in his transfer dealings than he is with his formation and selections , when will the people at liverpool realise to win the title you have to have quality players who don't get injured all the time .

Agree0 Disagree0

14 May 2015 07:54:59
I like Hernanes, he is an excellent player, and very underrated. IMO, he made the move to Europe very late, but he doesn't rely on pace to play his game, so it could well be an excellent addition if that happens, and here is the best part, Rodgers wouldn't need to use the word transition when he will refer to Hernanes.

I always found Italian women very vain, in my experience.

Hi eds quick question i notice you said we have watched carlos vela do you see us making a bid for him? I think he would be a good addition.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clubs watch a lot of players - I am not going to get in to speculating about whether or not a bid would be made.}

13 May 2015 16:48:01
In your opinion is Ings actually good enough to cut it at a top club, whether he joins us or a n other. Is this the calibre/prospect/risk of player we can really expect this summer? Especially when we have a raw probably very raw talent in Origi joining up and say an already present injury prone Starring. Surely we need to look at the deeper picture of regular performance, goal scoring ability surely its not about building for the future all the time. My opinion this has been done, rusks have been taken and money has been wasted. I understand 'free' means 'free' but you still have wages to pay. I see raw talent in the reserves why not use that than risk unnecessary spending to get the financials back in line with FFP. I know there is much more to it than that but to me it's common sense as much as we all would like to see that 'MARQUEE' signing. Fingers crossed we get it right this summer with everything manager and players. Bring on the new season.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained that Liverpool have been looking at various options. I am not sure if a list of "marquee" players exists.}

13 May 2015 16:56:15
Ings would be a very good signing. He will bag between 15 and 20 a season.

Agree1 Disagree12

13 May 2015 17:41:41
I'm not so sure about 15-20 goals tbh, but I'd say he is worth the risk

Agree2 Disagree4

13 May 2015 17:46:36
Yeah Ings looks good, a little under the radar cause he's a lot quicker, good ball control and movement then is mentioned with him. In a team that created as many chances as we have you'd expect him to score upwards of 15.

Agree1 Disagree3

13 May 2015 18:27:23
Borini scored around 10 goals for Sunderland and yet he struggled this season. Is Ings really better than Borini ? Honestly don't think so.

Agree2 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - How much time has Borini had this season?}

13 May 2015 18:40:56
Ings will not get Liverpool into the top 4. Seriously we need to get Top Class players through the door, not a young version of Ricky Lambert

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed002's Note - There are constraints that limit the market for Liverpool to some extent, e.g. not being in the Champions League, FFP issues, lack of funds because the money spent to put the team back at the top of the table has gone. There is very serious interest in Ings and, if he arrives, hopefully the fans won't turn on him as they do pretty much every other player.}

13 May 2015 19:07:10
Seriously DBol, get off his back! If he signs he'll be a good player for us and will have everyone's backing. Same with Milner

Agree6 Disagree0

13 May 2015 19:16:05
Ed002- if Ings were to come in would you expect interest for those such as Son, Vietto (both difficult), speculated interest for Benteke and Aubameyang who you said may be an option to go completely and Ings be the only striker arriving

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - It depends who is to leave. I would not be surprised if Lambert were to stay. Balotelli the club want out and have instructed his representatives accordingly - they have explained the major problem that exists with the money the club wants. Borini is never going to get the opportunity he wants and will also likely leave. Sturridge cannot be sold in the short or medium term. Lambert will probably stay. origin is arriving. Aspas will go, I don't know if Yesil will ever get a chance and the youngsters are probably not part of any plans. So I think it all remains in the balance still.}

13 May 2015 19:32:51
Lambert is too slow to fit our style of play. He would do much better playing for a team that uses a target man up front. I personally do not see him staying especially that his playing time will likely become even more restricted than this year if Sturridge comes back fit in Oct.

Agree0 Disagree2

13 May 2015 22:02:17
Lambert is one of those, if he leaves and gets played regular in a position that suits, he'll end up having a great season and we'll all moan we should have sold.

I hope he stays, he loves the club as much as us and if used properly could be effective. Imagine a manager with faith in him, knows how and when to use him. He'd love that and we'd see results on the pitch.

Agree3 Disagree0

14 May 2015 01:08:03
I hope hoe stays because he can be used situationally but under a new manager who will play to his attributes because BR bought him yet never plays him, same with Borini.

Agree1 Disagree2

13 May 2015 16:31:59

I really hope we don't sign montoya we have flanagan and wisdom perfectly good enough

Believable1 Unbelievable4

13 May 2015 16:45:54
Wisdom isn't he's a sub at wba and flanno is out for 9 months and there's no garantee he'll get back to the level he showed for around 3 months last season (even then I've seen trains turn quicker) so a replacement must be bought if McLaughlin isn't ready. Manquilo if he stays could play leaving wisdom as back up which is be okay with also

Agree7 Disagree0

13 May 2015 17:11:27
Manquillo should be gone and Montoya is not good enuff, IMO.

Agree1 Disagree9

13 May 2015 16:50:12
Agree mate. Montoya is decent but does not offer any significant improvement on the RB options the club already has. Personally, i would rotate Wisdom and Mclaughlin at RB and maybe give Randall a chance in cup competitions. Oh and release Manquillo as he simply is not good enough.

Agree1 Disagree6

13 May 2015 17:14:49
I didn't realise flanagan was out for 9 months

Any player is an improvement on flanno right now unfortunately.

Agree7 Disagree1

13 May 2015 17:45:14
McLaughlin will leave this summer, along with Manquilio and Johnson of course.

Agree4 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - I would not be so sure about Manquillo just yet

13 May 2015 17:49:55
What's so wrong with Manquillo he's shown some real quality and pace, great at tracking back. He has made no more mistakes then anyother fullback at our club, puts in twice the effort over twice as much paid stars Johnson and Enrique.

If Manquillo was English, from our youth and gave the same performance it would be different comments.

Agree12 Disagree1

13 May 2015 19:08:14
Wisdom and Manquillo absolutely fine at RB for us.

Agree2 Disagree3

13 May 2015 19:46:30
Wisdom is crap! Do you people actually watch football?! He will probably be sold for a nominal fee to Derby county

Agree5 Disagree2

13 May 2015 15:56:34
I would sell these players to make room for new ones and I'm obviously assuming everyone else thinks these are the players to let go

Jones (1m), Johnson (4m), Enrique (4m), Gerrard (Free), Lambert (3m), Aspas (4m), Alberto (4m), Coates (3m), Manquillo (loan end), Ilori (3m), Borini (8m), Balotelli (12m)
Income: 46m
If we get around 40m to spend from the owners then add the 46m we get from sales and then 86m to spend on new players and here's who I think should be the replacements for these players

Ward as 2nd keeper, Montoya for Johnson (7m), Pirlo for Gerrard (we need a type of leader in the team and Pirlo is capable of that), Kovacic (8m), Martinez (18m), Lacazette (18m), Aubaemeyang (15m), Ings (Free), Fer (4m)
Spent: 70m

I think we need Leroy Fer because of his physical presence in the midfield even though we have Can but the options will be there in case Can gets an injury.

{Ed002's Note - You really would do best to ignore the money side of things.}

13 May 2015 16:13:20
Buy Martinez, Lacazette, Ings, and Aubameyang? Setting aside the impossibility of getting Lacazette and the ridiculously low prices you've put on everyone, on what planet do we need 4 new strikers to go with the 7 we already have?

Agree4 Disagree0

13 May 2015 16:13:30
Johnsons leaving on a free plus you didn't add in agents fees tax ect paying off contracts hence eds ignore the money side. I agree with the list though

Agree1 Disagree0

13 May 2015 17:07:45
Johnsons a free agent. And you somehow think your going to get Kovocic for £8m? Lol. Or lacazette for £18m? Keep dreaming pal

Agree5 Disagree0

13 May 2015 16:51:58
Why would you want 8 players in? Does no one realise that it doesn't work. Aspas, Alberto, Johnson, Enrique, Manquillo, Ilori, Borini, Coates and Lambert do not need replacing.

Johnson, Enrique, Manquillo, Borini are at the club and have hardly had a sniff of the first team, where do you imagine their replacements would be getting games? Ilori, Aspas, Alberto, Coates haven't even been at the club, why do they need replacements? Johnson will leave on a free, who would pay 4m for Enrique? I think Aspas has a minimum fee for his loan club (not sure, think its more than 4M).

Balo and Lambert? We have Origi coming in and Sinclair coming through but yes we do need a first team striker. Also where are you gettings these never never land prices? Lacazette for 18m? Scored over 30 goals and has just about ever big club in Europe interested to some degree. Kovacic (8m)? Javi Martinez has been injured all season, but he still cost a ridiculous amount for Bayern.

We need a Striker, Goalkeeper, Midfielder. What we will probably get with Rodgers at the club is 2 left sided centre backs, a couple of attacking midfielders and a Striker that will probably end up playing in midfield.

13 May 2015 17:41:32
I wonder what would come first, relegation or financial ruin.
We would be lucky to get £10m back from that list of players.

Agree0 Disagree3

13 May 2015 18:10:06
Don't agree with any of those figures, or that we need them or that we'd stand a chance of any bar Ings. I'd add Allen to the sales.

I'd agree to sell all those, except Ilori as I'd like him to at least get a season with us being so good and costing £7m.

For me, bring back Ilori to replace Toure as he seems off. IF Flanno dosent recover to 1st level and Wisdom is not wanted, then I'd go for a RB.

A GK of Cechs standard if possible, to compete with and push Mignolet

A striker, just one but an established goal scorer, as Sturridge is not reliable to play more then 20 games. Origi is untried, similar with Sinclair. Not sure if Ings is the established scorer I'd go for, I'd see him as cover for Sturridge as who knows how long he'd last if/when he returns. Tough cause if he stays fit (great) then Ings would turn from cover to stunting Sinclair.

Midfield is covered with upcoming academy, plus Can can play in his role if a RB is signed.

The main position we need to address for me is a boss dm type player too play alongside emre can. Look at the top teams this season and how little goals they concede. Chelsea for e,g have been much better since matic came in. Southampton with wanyama and schneiderlin. arsenal with coquelin now look better. City with fernandinho/fernando, utd with blind/carrick. All of them allow the attackers to go forward and protect the back four. busquets for barcelona aswell. look at lovren at southampton compared to now. He could relax knowing he had two dms sat in front and a leader in fonte beside him. makelele for chelsea and viera/petit for arsenal are also good e.gs. if we had can and a a strong dm in the mould of carvalho/kondogbia/gonalons/bender we would improve. Note none of those players are coming btw.

Lucas does a great job, I'd have no problems with him staying around and continuing to do what he's been doing, although whether he will stick around seems to be an uncertainty at the moment. Would be nice to see Can actually get a chance to play that role occasionally, really not sure why he hasn't been. If Lucas were to leave, I would love to see Gonalons myself, although I have no idea how likely or feasible that actually is (I suspect it's not).

Lucas always gives his best but frankly that is not good enough for a top epl team. To slow. When the ball gets behind him he takes ages to recover. Also gives away to many free kicks in dangerous areas, again often due to his lack of pace.

Agree1 Disagree4

13 May 2015 17:14:19
Are we a top EPL team? Must have been asleep when that happened. Lucas is great at what he does and his sense of positioning and passing ability is top notch. I would have no qualms keeping him BUT if any "boss" anything needs to be brought in, it needs to be a "boss" manager.

One of the main things i want to see this summer is a structure finally put in place within the club. Transfers i'm not worried about. ed2 carrying on from our convo about chelsea is it only liverpool in the top 8 atm who haven't got the setup we talked about?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - All clubs are set up differently. Manchester City has a transfer committee that does not include the manager but they do have a director of football. Chelsea has a scouting system, a director of football, a manager and advisors that all contribute to some extent or other. Manchester United don't have a director of football but has a structure that includes Ed Woodward (from the main business), the directors of the football club, the manager and a chief scout that deal with transfers. Spurs has Daniel Levy as overseer and Baldini as Director of Football - at least for now, and Paul Mitchell as the new face. Southampton has Les Reed overseeing much of which goes on.

In terms of structure they are all different.}

Enjoyed reading the Ojo article on the main website. Seems like just the right sort of player and addresses a lot of the requirements raised by Eds & Reds alike.

Against Norwich (U21s) he player right wing, left wing and striker and said he doesn't mind where he plays as long as he's playing.

Hope he gets a few low key outings next season.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

13 May 2015 17:20:45
With BR in charge, I doubt it. He will either sell him and buy an inferior replacement, loan him out, then recall him to play left or right wing back. But seriously, Ojo is a very good prospect who can play any attacking position, is good with either foot and is built like a tank.

Agree1 Disagree2

13 May 2015 13:56:55
We should build the team around our most talented player, Coutinho. He has been wasted this season playing behind the likes of Lambert and Balotelli who don't run in behind. What he needs is runners in front of him who he can feed balls through to. Not only runners, but forwards who can score goals and not waste too many chances.

There are plenty of top class strikers out there such as Benzema, Cavani, Benteke etc, but these types of striker are just like Balotelli and Lambert. If we buy another big lump this summer (no disrespect intended), I will be very disappointed. What we need is players with 2 main attributes, which are pace and natural goal scoring ability.

13 May 2015 14:37:37
Agree with Zeddicus about Benzema. He is a very intelligent forward who can play a variety of roles to suit the team's needs. He has a decent pace as well and would work great with Coutinho and Sturridge. Unfortunately, he will not want to come to LFC unless Mr Ayre holds his entire family at gunpoint. The likes of Vietto, Son, Aubameyang etc could all work well ahead of Coutinho but again the club would need to raise some cash before targeting such expensive options.

{Ed002's Note - Benzema is far from an intelligent person - otherwise no one would know the name of Zahia Dehar.}

I think it's probably to do with the fact that Chelsea , City and even United are more attractive clubs than Liverpool. Players can earn more, these clubs spend more on the better players and crucially have a habit of winning medals. Liverpool have slipped of the scale this last decade. I think it would be harder for Liverpool to bring say a "Chelsea star player" to Anfield than it would for Chelsea to bring a "star Liverpool player" to Stamford bridge

Hate to agree with a United fan, but I can't argue with the logic.

We are missing a certain sparkle at the moment, which can come from a special group of players (think Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, Suarez), the coach (Benitez given his record in Europe and also Houllier imho) or repeated success (CL/CL finals/FA Cup/Cup Treble etc).

Something needs to change or we just keep fingers and toes crossed that the £5-£10m 'gambles' pay off more than they miss. Still shock me that £10m can be seen as a gamble, but I guess that the state of the EPL at the mo.

13 May 2015 09:29:08
Broken promises, played out of position, dragging out contract negotioations, loosing our best players, loosing our best talents, uncertainty about who will be in charge next season etc.

If I were a footballer, young and talented or an established player, then I would avoid Liverpool at the moment, because honestly, I wouldn´t know if I will sit on the bench for a season, and be loaned out the next.

This summer, FSG should focus on the structure at this club;
-Transfers
-Loans
-Youth
-Contracts
-A new coach/manager

This club oozes unprofessionalism; The handling of Suarez matters, Scapegoating players, buying players who aren´t playing for us, Owners commenting about the Arsenal bid for Suarez, Underbidding for players, The manager lying about we had contact with Depay, Youth getting loaned out to clubs and then doesn´t play etc.

To be honest I really don't care about which players we get at the moment, because if LFC doesn´t fix these underlying issues we will never progress.

Believable10 Unbelievable10

13 May 2015 10:22:13
Id half agree, i'm sure many clubs are in the same boat but its getting to the point that i cringe every time i read about LFC.

I personally think this is the last window were we have any sort of pull towards the club (very very little)

If sterling goes we need to make a statement, and really push on otherwise I really do fear for the future.

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed002's Note - Who would Liverpool be making this "statement" to? Or perhaps there is some other cliché that would work for the club?}

13 May 2015 10:43:37
Themselves, if players fail to believe in the system or club then who will want to be apart of it.

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed002's Note - You have a very bizarre view about life at a football club. Perhaps they could go in to the woods to bond - and touch each other whilst pretending to be trees?}

13 May 2015 11:08:08
Maybe so what ever works.

I guess with the approach of youth and the group growing together to form a squad that can compete i would have imagined that the players would need to believe in the programme being offered or would look to progress and apply there trade at more promising clubs.
My knowledge on these matters are limited at best and thank you for your insight in regards to me being way off the mark.

Agree1 Disagree7

{Ed002's Note - In general terms (a) players are transient employees of a club, they have to get on with it whilst those around come and go, and (b) typically most players are not very bright and don't have such thoughts. The turnover of players at Liverpool in recent years has been ridiculously high, and whilst that continues no one can reasonably expect to settle. The club needs to figure out how to deal with youngsters and those on loan as there are now growing problems as we have seen from recent statements from three loan players. The club has a decent squad and needs to, this summer, move on those who have no future at the club and those who want to leave. They then need to add a few players and use that as the basis moving forward. Then the summer transfer windows should concentrate on one or two changes to the first team squad and one or two youngsters being added. If they are to go on loan then it should be planned and managed - as I explained what another club do yesterday.

I appreciate the fans want to see multiple changes every summer - and that is what they have been getting. Such an approach does not breed success.}

Hi Eds,
With this turmoil of players not signing contracts and also the information you have passed with regards BR staying or going as manager, have you heard a time frame as to when the owners shall be making a decision with regards the managers position? Or has it already been made and just not out in the open yet?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - It simply does not work like that.}

13 May 2015 09:49:48
I was involved with a club in lower leagues a number of years ago and something similar was going on. So called better players not signing as was up in coming young players. What was happening was the players were going behind the managers back direct to owners chairman etc to put a point across with regards the manager. Board had decided that manager was leaving at the end of the season and the only way he could stay would be to work with an advisor. Ended up manager resigned as the money men were more or less telling him what he had to do weather he liked it or not.

Just wondering if BR's arrogance may mean he will not work is DOF or something similar. Or he will not walk and just wait to be sacked.

Agree1 Disagree7

13 May 2015 13:39:39
He said he would not work with a DOF the day he was hired as they were looking at LVG for that position and he was willing to come (thank God he did not)and the owners bowed to his demands. After screwing the transfer business the past two summers, they no longer trusted him and set up that commitee (a terrible idea) which would then handle the transfers for the disaster that we now know of even tho, BR has the final say on who gets signed. I don`t think the players have that type of power to go to the owners and lobby them BUT I can see a scenario where what you suggest about a DOF being imposed on him hence, his resignation would happen which would save FSG`s face in public. I doubt they need any face-saving tbh because BR has done nothing but lie to them and the fans as well as indirectly trash them in the media about not providing top signings.

EDs, when would you expect any decision on Rodgers to be made obvious to everyone? After the final game or before? As FSG don't have an obligation to state either way if he's going or staying, if we still see Rodgers here two weeks after the last game is that showing he's staying?

How do you see the final weeks and beginning of the summer playing out. Would you expect to hear of meetings and FSG coming over or Rodgers going out to the U.S. soon? When they replaced previous managers here and at Red Sox was there a clear patten are there any obvious signs to indicate what's going to happen?

Just a desperate fan wanting to know our future, I see this summer as our most important defining one
Thanks

{Ed002's Note - You are clutching at straws.}

13 May 2015 09:48:05
Yeah I am a bit Ed, as I said feeling desperate as I honestly do not have faith in Rodgers to turn us into challengers, to bring in the level of quality or to keep players happy.

Are you suggesting with your answer that what I'm asking is unrealistic? Rodgers not going anywhere then? You guys haven't taken time to pass on info relating to a shake up, not keeping his mouth shut and broken promises, so thank you all for that, but it has given me the impression Rodgers will go. Have I taken the information the wrong way? My fault if I have.

{Ed002's Note - I really don't have the time for any surreal conversations today.}

13 May 2015 10:58:22
What's up ED? Your answers today seem disinterested. Hope your day changes for the better, we all get grumpy days.

If you do get to hear of any info on Rodgers leaving or not please post, be grateful to hear news

{Ed002's Note - This is all just nonsense, and I have no time for it.}

13 May 2015 11:20:34
You'll drive yourself crazy max, ed's have already said they don't know if he'll stay or go. Got to just let it play out. ( and hope he goes!)

Yeah cheers Swish. Thing is, for me, the seasons over. Interested to see if Newcastle go down and looking forward to seeing Gerrards last Anfield game.
Because the seasons dead, I'm ready for all the changes now lol, no patience and need some hope for next season.

I can see your frustration and understand it BUT keep in mind that the owners are very meticulous and seldom make knee jerk decisions (look at KK`s departure and the fact that BR was not sacked in Nov/Dec to see why) and allow things to play out. I will say that whatever decision they have made, nothing that has happened lately will change their minds and if you want some kind of info, Ed01 has said he expects BR not to be here next season but then again, it`s all his expectation based on his assessment.

Rummblings of Menez again this morning. Anything new on him please?

hi eds,

can you tell me what are the players that liverpool are definately looking at, i'm not on about the ones that are linked with us but the ones that the club want and are targets for us, i doubt there is more than 4 players, thanks for any answers on this, it also may cut the kiddie in the sweet shop syndrome out for a few days

Believable0 Unbelievable10

{Ed002's Note - Obviously it doesn't stop you asking - I have explained over and over the players Liverpool have been looking at.}

13 May 2015 07:50:23
Well, ed001 and some posters has it that, the club have been a circus since Rafa's last 2 seansons. i would add, except that Rafa is a proven winner and a fan like me and you, also was not lucky under H&G ownership that made him a politician to some. unlike Rodgers who mentor himself, he is yet to achieve anything in football, a boyhood m.united fan and a proven clown with his constant vibes in public. the Rafa haters and pro-Rodgers has fail to differenciate white and black between them, because both has ever lead the club to a 2nd place finish of their tenure here? but all is down to driven emotions.

13 May 2015 08:41:37
Right now, today, neither is good enough. I'm pro someone else tbh.

Both Rafa and Rodgers have brought good times either from trophies or exciting entertaining football. Both signed good and duff players, but would say Rafa made better ones mostly due to our better stature with CL and his name around Europe. So I like both good and bad, but as I said their time has gone now. If we want to really improve, really challenge then we require a big name coach with a winning cv.

Would hardly call rafa unlucky, he was well backed. He was just as wasteful as Rodgers though.

Agree1 Disagree7

13 May 2015 13:54:07
Exactly, Mikey! BR and Rafa were given severe financial backing yet were aweful at signings. Rafa was a top manager, results wise but he was a meddler, a control freak and a politician who played boring footie but won trophies for us which I can to some extent live with. BR is everything Rafa was but with no trophies which makes him even worse. I want neither of them and they should both never manage us again.

Papers now reporting that Ibe is amongst 4 who havnt signed new contract offers, if true and I state if then something is clearly wrong at the club, I'm starting to wonder if players are getting fed up not playing in their natural positions for a start, it's not going to help the likes of Ibe always being shunted into wingback much the same as Markovic, I really do think a new man could get so much more from these players for sure, we need change and soon

Believable11 Unbelievable7

13 May 2015 08:37:16
If Ibe is stalling over a new contract it is almost certainly about money, which our club has a terrible history in negotiating. They don't seem to understand that if we won't pay them l,then others will

13 May 2015 08:41:37
Ibe is only in the team so it won't be because of what position he's playing. He should just be happy he is.

How are you somsure AG? His contract has been in discussion for a good few months now.

I understand we would all sign the day it's out in front of us and would be grateful to play LB even if you're a striker. But What is confirming Ibe is the same?

Agree0 Disagree8

13 May 2015 10:23:05
Contracts have stalled because there is a shortage of pens at mellwood mate, Rodgers has been burning through ink writing excuses on pieces of paper and screwing them up and writing out more.
Plus all the envelopes have been used up so contracts can't be sent in the post.
He sent ballotelli out to the shops to buy a big pack of biros, but he came back several hours later with a trampoline, a selection of novelty knomes, his and her scooters, a Rolex and a massive box of fireworks.

13 May 2015 14:00:10
Mikey, you`re on fire mate. Seriously, the journos are just writing rubbish and people are buyin it like they bought the sterling media circus and look what happened with that. I saw in the daily fail an article on this topic and they said he was stalling YET said is expected to sign. Pathetic spin, tbh. I`m not too worried about him signing because he will. As for Irish, that was a pathetic excuse for a post. How do you know it is about money? Are you at the negotiation table? Already bashing the kid and turning on him because he hasn`t signed a contract when you want or think he should sign it. Disgraceful!

Agree0 Disagree7

13 May 2015 07:10:14
What is happening at our club now Ibe has rejected a new contract now too.Whats happening why are so many rejecting contracts? Ed's? People?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - same reason, they want to know who is in charge and what the plans are for them before committing.}

13 May 2015 08:40:33
Ed's 1 that is totally at odds with what Ed's 2 said. He has stated that it doesn't matter who is in charge next season when negotiation contracts

Agree3 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - that is because he is talking from the agents' and directors' viewpoints, I am talking about the players, and what they want to know. Some will just leave it completely to their agents to agree and sign whatever the agent recommends, but a large amount want certain assurances over things like playing time, how they will be used and to know who will be managing them. There is certainly a current issue with the manager, no matter what he says publicly, a number of players do see him as a reason to not sign a contract, unless they have other reasons to persuade them. For instance, while I think it was long overdue time he moved on (in fact I personally think that for his own sake he should have left in 2005 to work with Jose because he would have become the best player in the world under his managerial regime), Gerrard made the decision to move on due to Rodgers. He couldn't wait until the end of the season to see how things lay as the opportunity to join LA Galaxy would not have been there in the summer. Other players are holding off. They want to see what ambitions the club have, they want to see a man such as Klopp come in to show them that the club intends to pursue a quick return to the Champions League. Otherwise they may as well let their contract run down a bit to increase their options in the future. Why tie yourself to a club in midtable that will be able to price them out of a move?}

13 May 2015 10:04:21
Interesting Ed. Are they're many of his own signings unhappy with him? Can for example played out of position? Lovren didn't look happy earlier in the season, but he does look a miserable sod, Lallana never playing 90 minutes etc etc.

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - well Borini and Lambert are his signings, Markovic is unhappy with his playing time, he was promised more.}

13 May 2015 10:30:47
Ed001, just regarding your reply, would it be fair to assume with some of the players that if BR stays they will be looking to leave?

Agree0 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - yes but that is normal in any club, there will always be players that choose to leave because of the manager, even the best manager is not going to be beloved by every player. There will always be players who are not being used as much or in the way they want. The problem is that some of those players are first team players that are unhappy.}

13 May 2015 12:53:33
The really scary thing is coutinho potentially becoming upset with the dismissal of BR.

Agree2 Disagree3

13 May 2015 14:06:11
BR lying about things. What a shock! The guy talks too much hence, is a liar hence, can`t be trusted by even his own bosses and first team players and IMO, the owners need to stop the bleeding this summer and let him go. To think that many want him to stay in spite of Ed01`s info about goings-on in the DR amongst his list of blunders as long as my arm, is baffling. He has alienated several players who either left or are ready to leave like Lucas, sahko, Raheem and the like. He is thinking he is bigger than the club and needs to go.

Agree0 Disagree3

13 May 2015 15:18:35
Ed01 always look out for your replies mate great insight. Quick question, have you heard anything on the owners opinions on rodgers spouting his mouth in the press since he was warned about it? I remember part of the reason for Kenny going was because of putting the club in a bad light (I mean the Suarez Tshirt thing) Surely the owners after warning him over dealings with the press mixed with promises of a title challenge and a trophy will be viewed as just as bad considering the money in the transfer market spent without addressing what we actually needed? any info on this would be appreciated

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - We are not going to get in to the gossip mongering type stuff. Otherwise you'll be wanting to know which EPL player has a police warning for gay dogging, which Celtic and Manchester United supporting Editor has thick ginger hair on the soles of his feet etc..}

13 May 2015 15:36:17
None of them rediculous (yet funny) things would ever concern me in regards to who will be in charge of the football my team play next season to be fair so no I would be happy with an answer on that alone if that helps. Was just curious as they seem to be ruthless businessmen in regards to things that could affect the club in that way

BR is the reason Raheem is getting the abuse he is getting because he stuck his mouth in a situation that did not concern him, saying the offer made to him was fantastic. Well if Raheem doesn`t think it is, then that is his right. A manager has to protect his players especially the younger ones who are getting exposure too quickly BUT BR chose to stick his nose in and escalate the situation instead of just side-setepping the questions as Mou did when questioned about Hazard`s contract situation, which is getting worse with every passing day. Now, it`s Ibe`s turn to get smashed by the know-nothing-about-contract-talks fans, I guess. Many fans just think a player should resign and if they don`t for reasons they know NOTHING about, they trash them. I wouldn`t wanna sign at a club with no direction, plan, strategy or even a structure nor for an inept manager who has no idea how manage and continues to play me out of position for no reason.

Cheers for the info Edds you're the best in the business without a doubt. Always a good read and like to read EDs 001 opinions always being a huge liverpool fan. Ed 002 always grates me with his obvious dislike of our club but his knowledge is second to none so you can't argue. Great work guys, I know everyone appreciates it, we just get wound up by the underachieving, bad planning and idiocracy that is rife within our beloved club these days. Anyway, back to the point.
