YNWA Tex 😎.

14 Jun 2016 04:14:49
Klopp has had plenty of chances to work with Tex. good player, good attitude he will have a great career somewhere for sure.

14 Jun 2016 06:32:52
I agree, good luck Tex. Its unfortunate that it didn't work out for him. I hope he has a good career and maybe one day he will get the chance to play against Liverpool.

14 Jun 2016 08:08:13
Good luck to Tex and hope he comes good and has a decent career.

Cheers.

13 Jun 2016 21:33:29
Peroxide should be bloodt banned when gathering a national team. Don't expect anything better from Elbows Fellaini, but Divock. lad!

Believable6 Unbelievable4

13 Jun 2016 22:04:26
Why banned?

The peroxide and overcast sun tan makes me look young.

You need to get with it man.

13 Jun 2016 22:38:28
Would the real Aaron Ramsey please stand up.

13 Jun 2016 23:51:00
You mean Gordon Ramsay?

13 Jun 2016 21:01:34
I certainly know it's never going to happen, but would love Kante to sign for us. I've read the reports and know there's a host of clubs ahead of us for him who can offer him champions league and more money.

If we had qualified for CL would fans believe we had an outside chance of getting Kante? Would take a gig offer in terms of salary to tempt him.

13 Jun 2016 21:48:45
Can't seem to post any other way but reading a few earlier posts how zatlan isn't up to scratch cause he couldn't do it against the Irish my first point would be that Irish team beat the world champions and second I presume the posters are English who's team couldn't beat the mighty Russia who's first choice centre halfs are out injured.

13 Jun 2016 22:00:41
Forza Italia!

13 Jun 2016 22:02:23
Zlatan Isn't up to scratch because he's lazy and and has an ego bigger than his nose.

13 Jun 2016 22:06:27
Ibrahimovich is average and I for one am desperate for him to sign for the mancs. Why can't we sign Kante? We are Liverpool. End of, if you don't want to sign that's your bad luck.

13 Jun 2016 23:03:08
Be realistic Waro.

13 Jun 2016 23:50:24
Kante would not entertain a mid table side.

14 jun 2016 01:32:21
zlatan. average? this does not compute.

14 Jun 2016 02:41:04
Zlatan is the opposite of average. He makes the impossible possible with a ball. He scored 51 goals in 50 matches at the age of 34 this past season.

14 Jun 2016 06:21:45
After watching both games in the group I think my team will struggle to get any more points, Italy very good and Belgium can't play that bad again but I live in hope, I thought England were very good but got hit by a sucker punch, sterling was terrible, Wales were good, England will come out of that group . I am enjoying the tournament so far and zlatan is a waste of space.

14 Jun 2016 07:19:50
Scoring goals for PSG in ligue 1 is like shooting dead fish in a barrel.

14 Jun 2016 09:31:09
Let's see what he does next season, most over-rated player on the planet, I'll be over the moon when he signs for the mancs,300k a week for someone to walk around the field and score the odd wonder goal once every blue moon! Then disrupt the dressing room when it's not all about him, beautiful 😀.

13 Jun 2016 20:17:18
I was involved in a thread earlier today eds, gone because of abuse I'd imagine? It's definitely the name at the bottom of the post rather than the content, makes me laugh when people get so wound up by someone they've never met. Sad people TBH EDS😒. Apologies if I've made your night any harder then it had to be.

{Ed002's Note - No problem Waro.}

14 Jun 2016 08:55:04
I like you waro, straight talking and no mincing. Keep it up fella.

14 Jun 2016 09:25:40
Cheers barnzy, wish we had a young you on the wing again for next season😔.

13 Jun 2016 20:08:50
Eds is they any good news around regarding lfc as am reading very bad vibes after I think a successful season with a manager that's been there for short space of time with 2 cup finals they must be players wanting to come to our great club cheers.

Believable2 Unbelievable8

{Ed002's Note - I am not sure what the question is but it was not a successful season.}

13 Jun 2016 20:27:31
Successful season, are you serious? There are far too many fans that think this way at the moment. Absolutely laughable.

13 Jun 2016 21:40:40
We've signed 3 players already.
I'd rather win football matches than sign players. It seems these days there are 2 competitions, on the field and in the transfer market.
I couldn't care less if we don't sign anyone else.
The good news is we have a better manager than we had 12 months ago.

13 Jun 2016 20:45:11
Successful in getting one of the best if not the best manager in the game, on field I think we can say league wasn't great but I do believe that the Europa league took a lot out of us. But going forward we should be extremely confident in Klopp.

14 Jun 2016 00:26:31
Progress isn't linear.

14 Jun 2016 01:36:39
It is a massive failure to have finished outside the European spots. However, as Leicester have shown and we did a few years back under Rodgers, good teams with fresh legs can roll over the big teams who play three times a week. Sounds like a cop out, I know, but I think the signings we have look exciting enough and Klopp will put smiles on our faces, not unlike he did a few months ago when it looked like we might win the European league.

14 Jun 2016 09:01:43
Ron so you think we don't need a new left back, and if coutinho goes i guess we shouldn't replace him too. I understand your sentiment of thinning the squad but we will not progress with the same players without either adding quality or players with a winning mentality. The end of season washout proved they just were not up to it and they had the majority of the season under klopp.

Players will leave when the euros are done and as long as we cover our weakest areas i will be happy.

{Ed001's Note - players gelling together and gaining an understanding makes more of a difference. Just look at Leicester, they added very little to turn the team from relegation battlers to champions. Teamwork is key.}

14 Jun 2016 09:34:48
Exactly Ed001 - teamwork, team spirit and organisation coupled with a bit of luck with injuries.

Look at Italy v Belgium last night. Italy smashed them. It's not just about having the "best" players.

{Ed001's Note - just think, it wasn't so long ago you and I disagreed on just about everything! Amazing how quickly a viewpoint can change isn't it?}

14 Jun 2016 11:20:02
Lets not mention Leicester model anymore, its an anomaly, comes once every few decades. Look norm: its all about adding quality players to win.

13 Jun 2016 19:58:14
Hi Ed002. Are you able to put one of your specials together covering off the history of "tapping up" in more detail at all please? I think I broadly understand why it's not legal and there are specific channels/ actions that should be taken in order to sign a player.
Has it always been illegal or did it become an issue which resulted in these rules being introduced. Was it initially an etiquette thing that too many clubs ignored?
Many thanks, Andy.

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed002's Note - I am really not going to get in to all of that.}

13 Jun 2016 20:18:35
No problem thank you for replying enjoy the Euros 😄.

13 Jun 2016 14:04:55
I might be wrong and am not intending to slag a player before he kicks in.
Zielinski at his best wouldn't displace neither Can or Henderson anytime soon. It's pretty much the same case with Grujic, What both would do is fill up the quota on numbers and add up the accounts IMO. They might also push out Brannagan and Allan out the door.

Allen clearly a squad player need not be replaced by a €15 mill Seria A player. What's the logic in it? We are not in EUROPE and a large squad is simply poor way.

Add another €15 with that sum and you could look for a player who would compete / displace your first teamer.

If the club cannot find a player who would displace your first teamer in the market, Keep the money and promote your academy.

I don't see a single bit of logic in this purchase and people claiming he would replace Allen. How did Milner replace Gerrard?

Instead of buying one world class player we are yet again looking to buy 3 players and train them hard or work your magic. Brendan failed to work his magic and it will all be on Klopp from here on.

This post is just a critical observation of the club transfer dealing from past three years.

Karius and Matip are a necessity in terms of position.

Believable5 Unbelievable16

13 Jun 2016 19:44:00
End of the day I trust Klopps judgement, given his past success in the transfer market I have no reason to doubt him.

13 Jun 2016 19:43:01
I agree on Zielinski. I watched a few games of Empoli last season after we were linked to the player. From my observation, I don't see Zielinski displacing either Henderson or Can in midfield. MK Scouser has said that he will do well alongside both Henderson and Can, but Klopp only plays a 3 man centre midfield very rarely. Zielinski is not a no. 10, and does not have the sort of vision a Coutinho or a Firmino has. He keeps it simple with his passing, and he is forward thinking player, and constantly try to get forward with the ball or without it. And this is why his "take-on" stats are high. He has excellent stamina and can run around all game, but tactically defensively, he doesn't do much either.

Comparing his to Allen is not accurate IMO, and he is more comparable to a faster James Milner. I hope he proves me wrong and has an excellent career at LFC, but IMO he looks like he is a squad player and not a regular starter.

13 Jun 2016 20:26:24
You are wrong. And your "critical observation" is more of a very short sighted slagging of both the player and Klopp. A game is played with 11 players. A football season is played with 24 players (at least, the bare minimum) . So which do you think Klopp is interested in putting together? Creating a team for a match (filled with your "world" class players") or a team for the season? Every position needs 2 to 3 players deep to be able to go through a season. So what's wrong if Grujic and Zielinski are being brought in as backups to Can and Henderson? Why do they need to displace Can and Henderson immediately - I mean what's wrong with Can and Henderson? When Can and Henderson were injured does it seem to you that we had capable replacements? Lucas is aging. And Allen simply does not fit either Can or Henderson's role. And the games that were played without Can and Henderson amply proved this (if you were watching) . Brannagan will get his chances, Klopp has shown he gives every one their shot. Some take the chance and move up - like Ojo. Others take the chance and screw it up - like Ibe. And Allan needs to get a permit to be able to play first. It's all about a squad for the season, not a single match.

13 Jun 2016 20:21:10
Simple Question to all above.
Suppose one of Can or Hendo gets injured, Would Klopp start Zielinski over Milner?
I don't think so.

AG
Y do we need to buy any player who is not going to improve our current first team?

13 Jun 2016 20:31:32
Why do we need to displace one of our most promising players and our club captain? We have actually played pretty good with Can and Hendo in midfield. I don't see them as a problem, especially if Henderson can recover from his injury. It was injury problems that led to a weaker season from him, not lack of quality per se.
I think that Klopp's problem was that he lacked anyone to actually rotate them in a midfield 2. Allen is a good player, put in a great shift as a sub last year - but ed01 has repeatedly stressed out that he lacks the fitness to last a whole game on the necessary level, not to mention that he is weaker physically than Can and Hendo. Lucas and Kevin Stewart, on the other hand, are very limited in going forward, which makes their use situational, while Milner SHOULD NOT be put in CM, full stop.
Both Grui and Ziellinski are young players with HIGHER ceiling than those they will be displacing, who obviously offer qualities Klopp wants in his CMs. I also have doubts whether Piotr can play in a midfield 2, I have not seen anything that suggests he is good enough defensively, and would prefer Dahoud - however, if Jurgen Klopp thinks he can do the job, then fair play, this guy knows much more about football than I do. All I can do is support the players that wear the club jersey, and hope that they fulfill their potentials.

13 Jun 2016 21:07:25
Klopp said himself that he needs to reconsider his tactics. He is constantly learning and that is what makes him a world class manager. We did actually try out 3 midfielders a few times when Can, Milner and Hendo were fit. He tried out lots of different formations though.

I don't think we can rule out him going to a 3 man midfield next season as his preferred formation, because when you look at the midfielders we are after, they are all attack minded midfielders who play on the sides of a 3 man midfield. Zielinski and Dahoud are the best examples. Neither of them have ever played senior football as part of a midfield pair, but have shone on the sides of a midfield trio.

Ed002 has also said that Klopp needs to reconsider his tactics. His style is very gung-ho and it's hard to play that open with 2 men in the centre of the park. He won't reel in the attacking as heavy metal football is his mantra. So the best way to maintain stability is to have a more men in midfield.

I'm not saying we will play with a 3 man midfield. I'm not psychic. I am just making a prediction based on an observation.

13 Jun 2016 20:51:54
People are still beating around the same bushes. There is an academy to cover up the players in necessary. You don't need to pay €15 mill to do that job.
But solid first framers or players who would give a real push to the first teamers. Use your academy to cover up their injuries.
There was a reason Brendan got sacked and that was buying shed loads of players who were never an upgrade on the existing one and three by loaning them or selling them for massive loss in the window.
Let's not repeat it again.

13 Jun 2016 22:20:45
A midfield trio of Can, Hendo and Milner will in no way shape or Form give us the platform for top four competitiveness. Nothing against any of the trio but they are all too similar and as I've said many times not strong or competitive enough defensively. Lucas and Allen aren't good enough. Sorry, yes it's harsh but midfield needs balance and defensive strength with we massively lack. Can, Hendo and Milner will harry all day long but a strong defensive platform needs more. Grujic does like to play further back and may provide that balance. The window isn't even open yet, when it gets to August then we can start to see.

13 Jun 2016 22:40:04
the reason Brendan got sacked? you winding me up? lot of the players have upped their game since he arrived. maybe jurgen thinks he can bring on grujic more than whoever's place he takes? having taken a look at the kids do you think he would let them go or fester if he thought they could improve us? your chatting wam. go back to reading your jimmy hill book of football knowledge.

13 Jun 2016 22:47:25
Some good points in the replies. My opinion of Zielinski is based on the very few games I have watched, and I do think it is his energy in the middle of the park that attracts Klopp to the player (like Henderson and Can) . It will be interesting to see how the player fits in at Liverpool, and in the PL if he joins.

13 Jun 2016 20:39:02
I agree, I don't think he's first team quality and I think he's as good as a replacement for Allen and that's about it. He might be different from our other midfielders but I don't think he's good enough going forward to be ahead of certain players. We will see next season. I feel we need a more defensive minded midfielder as that is where our weakness is in the midfield. Hendo and can are good enough going forward but lack going back.

14 Jun 2016 01:46:17
Obviously Zielinski needs to improve aspects of his game. but he looks, to me, like someone who would bring a different kind of energy to our midfield. Perhaps the greatest knock on him is wondering where he fits in. does he steal game time from Firmino Lallana or Can Henderson? I personally feel he would be excellent in the role Allen often plays.

14 Jun 2016 07:00:22
After MKs comments about him (thank you btw) I took the time to watch a couple empoli games and some youtube clips. In short he is quick, clever, technical and links well between midfield to attack. I don't know if he is strong enough, will score enough or lay on enough goals / chances, will be world class etc etc. But he does offer a creative skillset in midfield that we don't have, where hendo, can and milner primarily offer energy and brute force. I love CMs that turn on the ball, play 1-2s and triangles to open the play.

14 Jun 2016 07:23:17
Can, Hendo, Brannagan, Grujic, Stewart, Lucas.

How many more central midfielders do we need for maximum 55 games?

13 Jun 2016 18:41:57
Watching the Irish game and as far as I am concerned the mancs can have Ibrahimovic, nothing special as I can see. Best days behind him.

Believable12 Unbelievable9

13 Jun 2016 18:50:49
Agreed - considering how many of the Irish lads are lower premier and championship players Sweden generally should be worried about the fact that they have been pretty ordinary as a whole.

13 Jun 2016 18:52:27
lol, until he has better players around him.

13 Jun 2016 18:52:27
lol, until he has better players around him.

13 Jun 2016 19:13:34
I personally think he will do well for them, however it's not a sensible signing, more of a luxury/ vanity purchase.

13 Jun 2016 19:53:26
I think he'll do a job, he is still a very good player as long as he has runners around him. Whether he is worth the huge wages is a different matter.

13 Jun 2016 20:09:19
On the subject of the same game.

Remember we were linked with McCarthy both as a kid and when he was at Wigan? Bullet dodged. He was totally invisible, and that's basically the way he's been going the past couple of years. Our midfielders have had a bit of stick at times this season, but the very worst game any of them played this year was about 10 times better than McCarthy tonight.

13 Jun 2016 19:43:06
Zlatan is a 25 goals season striker without any doubt. He is a monster with his physicality and exceptional with his technique. He might not run around like other footballers but truly Jose doesn't play those high pressing game either.
He will bring in goals for UTD and in the end it only matters.

13 Jun 2016 20:31:42
I would have thought that he was being brought in to mentor Martial and Rashford, and score a few key goals himself. But Ibrahimovic somehow does not strike me as the mentoring type at all. Always was and always will be a (superbly talented) freaking diva. And his character is as volatile as Mourinho's. Dangerous to keep so much dynamite all in one room.

13 Jun 2016 21:42:21
"lol, until he has better players around him"

What? Better players Man Utd 😄😄.

13 Jun 2016 22:05:21
Zlatan would get 5 vs Swansea, and hatricks at Sunderland, west brom and hull, then think he's a hero because he's scored. He should be judged on how many he gets that wins games. France is not a strong league, when PSG clinched the titles, third was closer to relagation than top.

13 Jun 2016 22:49:12
fencey tbf he has won the title in every other league he has played senior football other than that 1 season in ac milan.

he has played in serie a, la liga, dutch league and ligue 1. bit unfair to say that.

although i don't think he is as good as he was, still a decent striker, bt a very expensive one.

13 Jun 2016 23:40:32
Sweden should be worried? Ireland are ranked higher than them. bar the last euros they always put it up to any team. Definitely missing a star or 2 now but are a team full of players who fight week in week out for clubs, and country. Players who will never get the limelight but as we just saw with Belgium a team is must more important than a group of "stars"

13 Jun 2016 16:46:05
Hi Eds.

Besides the list of players being released. Anyone else you expect to be leaving?

In your opinion who might be or at least there's a possibility coming in?

Thank you in advance.
All the way from Sunny Singapore. Really enjoyed reading this page. Thumbs up.

Not a lot else going on right now but Benteke, Balotelli and Ilori are gonners.

13 Jun 2016 18:45:59
Texeira to Porto either just about to go through or confirmed!

13 Jun 2016 16:34:30
I do find it incredible when people talk of us 'nickel and diming over a couple of million euros' on our transfer bid for a particular player. These are probably the same people who choose their pub on the basis of a pint costing 5p less the the nice pub down the road. A couple of million euros is probably not far off our gross matchday income after matchday costs (but before we've actually paid any of the players) . Which sounds like a chunk worth negotiating about to me. Any idiot can pay too much for anything - don't the club employ people to try and get the best deals, rather than slimly paying the (inflated) price the selling club would ideally want?

Believable12 Unbelievable8

13 Jun 2016 16:46:30
Have to agree here. Isn't that how all clubs apart from Real Madrid and Barcelona handle transfers? Negotiate for a fee that they feel is reasonable? Maybe the eds can shed some light?

13 Jun 2016 17:54:01
Each situation is different and in the case of ziellini klopp took it upon himself to tap up the player. We either stump up the valuation or quiet frankly stop wasting their f@#king time.

Our reputation is bad enough as it is without compounding the situation and messing them around just because we know he would prefer to play for us.

13 Jun 2016 18:28:26
I completely agree, it's absolutely correct we should try get players at the best possible fee but here's also a difference between negotiating and disrespecting other clubs in the way we go about things. Sounds like we don't always get that right.

13 Jun 2016 19:16:56
Agree with john b there, zeilinski was tapped up so we have lost the chance to negotiate.

13 Jun 2016 19:22:08
When we act like an arse though (and in this case tap up a player) then we really should be being smarter. Pay the fee they want or walk away - speaking to their representatives, getting permission and then haggling is what we should have done from the off. Instead we tapped up a player, he was wearing our kit and pissed off Udinese in the process. Ed002 has mentioned numerous times our perception in world football and how our reputation is poor with a number of clubs - stuff like this does not improve it and offering a sum we know to be lower than what Udinese have set is just stupidity. I agree with the sentiments of your post but in this case we've acted inappropriately and paying extra to smooth the situation is, in my view, smart, from both a PR perspective and business perspective.

13 Jun 2016 22:29:24
Completely agree. It will come to the point where we won't be able to get the players we want, not because we won't pay the money, not because the player doesn't want to play for us, not because we don't have CL but because nobody will want to have dealings with the club and will refuse to open negotiations. Our reputation is worth more than money.

13 Jun 2016 16:33:18
Hi there. How likely are we to make a "Marquee" signing?

Believable1 Unbelievable9

{Ed002's Note - "Marquee" is a subjective term and I have no reasonable way of measuring how "likely" such a signing would be. However, as in the words of JD Salinger, it is A Perfect Day for Bananafish.}

13 Jun 2016 17:07:54
Hate the term Marquee, all footballers should be treated as equal.

13 Jun 2016 17:25:40
Ed 002, is this this some kind of clue regarding a possible marquee singing, know its some kind of story, thanks.

{Ed002's Note - Of course.}

13 Jun 2016 17:48:45
Eds, that's a wind up question! Or else he must be new to site, I note he didn't leave a name.

13 Jun 2016 18:00:04
Thanks for the reply ed002, going to be up all night thinking about this one.

13 Jun 2016 18:05:42
Someone said we're signing Mark Key, who does he play for? 😳.

13 Jun 2016 18:28:35
There will be a Marquee addition - new GSM for Klopp, with all the latest gadgets.

13 Jun 2016 18:32:33
We need a Marqyuee anyway to cover the bloated squad we have from the terrible English weather.

13 Jun 2016 17:28:56
I agree, Mighty.
Paul Konchesky, Luis Suarez- who cares?!

13 Jun 2016 18:49:06
Is it sad that I've read that book Ed002?

Btw lads, one of the main characters is a girl called Muriel.

Perhaps Ed002 is suggesting Luis Muriel could be an option for a "big tent" signing? ;)

13 Jun 2016 20:57:54
Ed, is that a nonsense to simply create madness amongst fans? Ha ha. Is it a Luis Muriel reference?

Have a great evening all

A-P.

13 Jun 2016 21:46:27
About as likely as finding the winning Euromillions ticket in a skip and then being hit by lightening twice.

13 Jun 2016 21:51:16
I heard tents r us are doing a 15% sale, if we get in quick we might be able to get a two for one deal.

14 Jun 2016 07:14:54
My uncles grandads former flat mates dog walkers neighbour told me that Mark Key will be signing soon! He will play in every position and will win us the Prem. 😂.

13 Jun 2016 15:22:20
One thing to say about zielinski, we have no idea how good he is going to be, especially with the comparison between leagues etc.

One thing i did notice while watching him on youtube is that as soon as he collects the ball, he turns and runs at the opposition. In other words, he is very bright going forward, especially on the break, and a lot more positive than joe allen.

Also, having watched the germany game yesterday, i enjoyed the performances of both mustafi and hector, both looked very solid and would be perfect for us after the departure of kolo.

It is apparent we need a proper winger and although this is match of the day fever talking, anybody have any thoughts on perisic? Was very impressed with his pace and directness at such a high level.

Believable1 Unbelievable6

13 Jun 2016 15:57:03
yes but as you have just said a comparison must be made between the leagues. I'm sure if he and Joe switched clubs and leagues Joe would stand out and have the space to collect and run at lower level opposition. He won't get the time and space in the Premier League. NOT saying he isn't good, just making a point that there is no time in the Premier league. I would guess if we all watch Allen play for wales he will look much better. he is a very important player for a decent international team, who i think could go quite far in the euros.

13 Jun 2016 16:28:11
here are fans again that think international level is above premier leaugue level. that's why northern ireland won against poland and england won against bad russian team. everyone plays football today and comparations beetween leagues are stupid. if a player is good he is good. there is no time in premier league? i see atleast 10 times in liverpool games when we crave for player that has that fast start and deady ball to start a counter from midfield but our midfielders opt for sideway pass to clyne or moreno. klopp likes players with balls and zielinski has balls. more import thing is wheter the guy is ready to step up and change lifestlye, horrible wheather, food, customs and big expectations.

13 Jun 2016 17:12:37
Personally I think we need a different kind of midfielder which is why I don't rate the signing of zielinski, he's not the best going forward either. I've watched what I can of him since we apparently signed him and he looks like a poorer version of kovacic. I think he could probably come good in time, I just see it as a replacement for Allen and nothing more (in terms of quality) . But that's just my opinion, for £9.5m this is what it buys your nowadays so no complaints on price, It's just for such an inportant position, a position that can really dictate whether we can come out of the midtable, we need quality players, which zielinski could be, but isn't at the moment. Hence why he doesn't start for Poland.

13 Jun 2016 17:51:11
he doesn't start for polland bcos euros are the big stage and he is young player. euros are biger stage than any league game will ever be playing for your country! that doesn't mean he will not start next game or that their coach is affraid to go all out attack. sterling and rose are starting for england does that make them excellent players? if klopp sees him in his plans we should give him a chance . this is klopps way. we are all happy when he was appointed and now we don't like his way we want payet, griezmann lol. he recognizes talent very well and from his connections in european football and close friends invesigates their attidude which is what makes a player. and trust me klopp has connections everywhere.

13 Jun 2016 18:02:02
Mandzo Let me refer to the Eredivisie 14/ 15 mephis depay absolutely smashed the Dutch league and came to England and did what? LigaBBVA di Maria came to England and did what? Falcao Portuguese league French league and also Spain considerd a couple of years ago as one of the best strikers in the world came to England and did what? That comment of all leagues are the same it's just the player absolutely bonkers comment to make.

13 Jun 2016 18:05:52
Kman92, Henderson doesn't start for England, Can doesn't start for Germany, Lucas doesn't even get picked for Brazil etc. I'm not going to judge a player based on whether his international manager picks him to start.

Make your own opinion mate. Poland have a very good midfield anyway so I fail to see your point.

13 Jun 2016 18:11:16
But joe one can pick just as many names out the hat who have come to england and bossed it. don't quiet get your point. As mandzo says if a player is good enough it doesn't matter what league he is playing in or comes from.

13 Jun 2016 18:14:09
With regards to him not playing for poland, it all depends on how the manager sets up the team and how he wants to play which dictates the team. If he was not good enough to play he wouldn't be in the squad. My hodgson in his infinite wisdom didn't play sturridge or vardy when kane was clearly struggling, doesn't mean they are bad players though.

13 Jun 2016 18:26:09
My concern would be the assumption that a player whose first reaction to getting the ball is to turn and run with it is automatically good. The old adage about letting the ball do the work should stand - our best performances this season came from pass and move, we opened up defences by playing other in, not so much by just running at people all the time. I'd rather we signed players who can see both the pass and where they need to move next before we sign another player who is a second or third level Ronaldo. No offence to the lad, but there is a reason those guys who are running defenders all over the shop are primarily playing in Spain. The EPL won't work with that approach.

13 Jun 2016 19:52:49
which player from premier league went abroad and had succecsfull carrer? mcmannaman maybe? david beckham? michael owen? stupid facts how many players came from poor leagues like croatian and ukraine and did very well? league means nothing. attitude and never give up guys make it everywhere. if you think it is easy to move on from your friends and family to a rainy country with not so good food, fans with high expectations, and coaches not thinking about training team but who to buy next bcos the money is available you cleary never been anywhere near profi football.

13 Jun 2016 14:12:27
I would just like to wish john arne riise all the best as he announces his retirement today at 35, little did we know when he left that we would struggle to replace him, thanks for the memories john, that free kick vs utd will take some beating, he possessed one hell of a left foot, a great purchase for Liverpool, he served us well.

Hi Eds, hope you're all well.

Please ask me to post elsewhere if you find this irrelevant here - I have a question regarding the structure that clubs have in place to handling transfers, from start to finish, scouting upwards. I'm familiar with the structure at Liverpool and have read here of the problems it has had in the past. Are there guidelines/ rules around how clubs should set-up their transfer committee, and do you have an opinion on which clubs are operating better than most in this area? Please let me know if you've answered this previously and I'll search. Cheers, have a top day. A.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - There are no guidelines and there is no need for a TRansfer committee and it varies on a club-by-club basis. This has been discussed before so perhaps searching will help. Some clubs have a Director of Football/Sports Director and their reponsibility varies. Some have a transfer committee, some don't allow anty input from the manager/coach, some allow some inut and a few let him have a free hand.}

13 Jun 2016 14:08:23
Thanks Ed002, appreciated. I'll try searching again.

best of luck to him, has the talent to be a decent player. Clearly wasn't going to make it here though. loved him since the youth sides but unfortunately he has stayed at the same level since.

13 Jun 2016 13:53:43
circumstances have held him back imo, I wish him well, porto have a good record in developing young players so if that rumour is correct he will be in good hands, all he ever needed at Liverpool was a chance, sadly he never got one.

13 Jun 2016 18:01:08
He has had opportunities but he has not been of the required level, he will no doubt become a very good player with regular games and i think this is definately the best decision for him. I wish him all the best and hope he goes on to have a great career.

13 Jun 2016 18:30:38
Brighton fans seemed to really rate him, so he's got a decent level to him, maybe lower premiership side would have done better with him? Also always seemed a bit fragile but talented.

13 Jun 2016 12:54:45
Hi you muscular and toned redmen, Eds I was wondering how likely it is that the reported £9.5m Zielinski offer will be accepted given the old tapping up blunder (there's one for the Jurg-O blooper reel if I ever saw one) - was that the offer they were holding out for or were they hoping for something higher?

13 Jun 2016 13:02:28
Some fans would be happy with winning nothing as long as they sign a marquee signing madness lol.

Believable8 Unbelievable6

13 Jun 2016 13:59:29
its the times we are living in, we see other clubs spending like crazy and we have to join in, doesn't matter on who as long as we spend big, personally I would be happy if the largest amount we spend this summer would be £20m, however that looks unlikely now we have registered a interest in mane, its more likely going to be £30m+. one last thought how many of these "marquee" signings in recent years have proven to be value for money, suarez and Ronaldo excepted.

13 Jun 2016 14:19:36
What clubs are spending like crazy at the moment, exactly? Can you please, elaborate?

13 Jun 2016 15:59:16
give it time redohio I didn't mean right now but generally, I have no doubt premier league clubs will create a new spending record, come the end of this summers transfer window.

13 Jun 2016 16:06:25
I would argue that neither Ronaldo nor Suarez were marquee signings when they arrived, but they were when they left.

Ed001 has said that Ronaldo was being watched by many large clubs in his teens - much to my chagrin both at the time and still now, we turned down the opportunity to sign him for £3.6m before United snapped him up for £12m (ish) .

Suarez again was being tracked, but he was far from a galatico when he arrived.

I do think they have both proved to be value for money for the RM and Barcelona respectively despite the high transfer fees paid.

13 Jun 2016 18:44:19
Would agree, sign the players to make the squad work and the structure/ tactics be successful. Doesn't matter if they're a big name or not. Also due to the fickle nature of fans, only the up front players get rated as marquee names and those aren't the areas we need. We need some better levels at full back, more consistency at GK, stronger ability to win the midfield battles when they're in our half - basically a world of stuff that doesn't involve wingers, strikers and attacking midfielders.

MK Scouser put up the following the other day:

"Zielinski in review:

A strong, skillful and direct runner from midfield, with sublime vision and good set piece delivery. Lacking in some defensive areas though. His mistimed tackles saw him banned twice last season for an indirect red card, and accumulating too many yellow cards. In total he got 5 stand alone bookings, plus the 2 in one match which got him sent off.

Of the 35 league games that Zielinski played last season for Empoli they won 12. A win rate of about 35%. Of the 3 games he missed, Empoli lost all 3 games and only managed 1 goal in the process. Zielinski was their key man in midfield when it came to initiating attacks and creating goal scoring opportunities. He created 52 chances in total. His ambition didn't damage his pass completion rate though as he maintained a respectable 82%. Without him in the side, Empoli were a much worse side.

His finishing is good for a 22 year old midfielder, but still needs work. He took 64 shots in total, with 22 on target and 30 off target. A further 12 were blocked so are excluded from his shot accuracy of 42%. In total he managed 5 goals from the 52 shots that weren't blocked, so his conversion rate is approximately 9%.

Despite his tackling needing work, he still managed an average output of 3 defensive actions per game and didn't make a single defensive error in his 35 games. He made a total of 55 interceptions, 45 clearances and 5 blocks. His tackle success rate sits at lowly 44%. He attempted a massive 124 tackles, but only 54 came off and 36 of them resulted in a free kick for the opposition. Despite standing at 1.8m tall, he also doesn't win many headers. In 58 duels, he only won 19 which represents just a 33% success rate.

He drags his overall duel success up though with his brilliant take on success. He attempted 131 take ons with 89 coming off at a 68% success rate. He is so difficult to stop that teams tend to just take him out. He won 31 free kicks.

In conclusion, he is an excellent offensive midfielder who can run with the ball just as effectively as he can pass it, but he needs to improve his tackling and finishing. His biggest strength though is going forward as he starts a lot of attacks and creates a lot of chances. He would definitely compliment Henderson and Can in a 3 man midfield, as whilst they are both very capable players, neither possess the skill and attacking flair that Zielinski boasts.

MK Scouser"

13 Jun 2016 13:20:02
Is he rapid?

13 Jun 2016 13:40:17
IMO, those stats being used don't justify the glowing comments. I've never seen him play but I hope he's at least half as good going forward as mentioned above.

Personally if he is as explained above I wouldn't even think he'd be worth going for but hopefully Klopp can work his magic if we do sign him.

13 Jun 2016 14:04:18
Hi Sean, you should take the stats with a pinch of salt. I used them to give a greater insight into his strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately he played in a very average team at Empoli. I tend to base my opinions on watching the player, and then try and correlate what I see with the stats. Otherwise, me just saying he creates a lot of chances is quite simply an subjective statement you would just have to believe. By putting the stats as well, it gives you guys the opportunity to make your own opinions, and more accurately judge mine.

A 44% tackle success for example will actually stand up to most midfielders in Europe on purely a statistical front. But that stat doesn't show how poorly mistimed and clumsy the other 56% were!

13 Jun 2016 14:20:42
Spot on, MK Scouser. Stats are worthless, IMO. Using your eyes are the best way to judge a player.

13 Jun 2016 14:51:12
Hi Adam, I appreciate your insight and I hope he is as good as your opinion states as I do believe the stats to be quite poor to be honest.

For someone to play in the Central Attacking Midfield role I would expect more than 1.5 chances per game to be created. Hi shooting isn't great for a player of this position. Him being taken down less than one time a game isn't all that for someone running at people as well.

As I haven't seen him I'm relying on what you've said for some bit of insight. From that I would expect that he can't defend (poor tackling and fairly hopeless in the air for his height) and he isn't good enough going forward to warrant going for.

13 Jun 2016 13:55:34
He's not what I would consider rapid. A bit like Emre Can. Fast enough to beat people, but we're not talking Vardy/ Walcott kind of pace.

I watched him a few times since it was said in January that he would sign in the summer. His preferred position is on the right of a midfield 3 but He can also play as a right winger or behind the striker though. Yesterday I also made the comment that he is like a poor mans Pogba. Because that basically sums up his playing style. Pogba is just more consistent and has a better end product. Empoli played a 4-3-1-2. Zielinski was the most attacking player of the midfield 3, and in the games I saw, his link up play with their 'number 10' (Saponara) was a joy to watch. I think Zielinski is exactly the sort of player we are missing. We need a player willing to take risks, and link our midfield to our forwards. I think we will link up really well with Firmino in particular next season.

In a better side, with more quality around him, I think he could be great. He won't get as much time on the ball in the Prem though, so I won't be surprised if he takes half a season to bed in like Firmino and Origi did.

He is completely different to every midfielder we have in the squad though. I believe the interest in Zielinski is a strong indication Klopp wants to play with 3 men in midfield next season. If the Mane interest is accurate as well, It points towards a 4-3-3 or possibly even a 4-3-1-2. So perhaps Klopp is looking to slightly adjust his method for the English game. We saw signs of him experimenting last season.

13 Jun 2016 16:36:18
pace is not crucial in beating people especialy in tight areas. it is change of direction, flexibility, strenght on legs, and low center of gravity. if there is one player i would compare zielinski it would be luka modric in his age. that fast start to beat player in crucial midfield area and then great vision. he looks like someone special now it is up to klopp to finish the diamond. luka first played as attacking midfielder but as he matured started dictating from deep. zielinski only has to work hard and have luck with injuries. when you watch him he excites with every touch. special talent and if napoli and sarri want him that is just a proof :)

13 Jun 2016 13:51:04
Don't think even his parent club Udinese rates him so high. He is hits an Ok midfielder playing in a very slow league. I don't understand the logic of replacing Allen ( A player who is not rated ) by another squad player? If any player brought in is not an upgrade on your current first teamer what's the logic?
This player at his best wouldn't displace neither Hendo or Can. Only the club and Klopp knows why we are after certain set of players who are always squad remedies.
Not sure where would this push Brannagan to?

Cheers.

Did anyonyone watch Gotzes performance vs Ukraine? Or is this not a Liverpool-related question?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

13 Jun 2016 11:40:54
I watched it. I would be more than surprised if Barcelona or Real is knocking at his door as we speak.

13 Jun 2016 11:55:39
Lets not judge what is clearly a poor performance by an extremely talented player playing out of position as a striker.

My personal opinion is we need a speedster on the wing.

X Firmino Coutinho

Mane actually fits the bill for me.

First choice was Dembele, now its Sane. All this assuming Rues is completely unnattainable.

I'm happy to trust Klopp though and wait.

If Gotze does join i'm pretty confident he will do very very well but I fear his inclusion may cost the team a much needed injection of speed in the forward line.

13 Jun 2016 12:05:45
I think as long as gotze plays like that no other clubs would not look at him.

13 Jun 2016 13:05:40
He was playing as a 9 and was very poor and indecisive. Probably more match fitness than anything.

13 Jun 2016 14:21:17
I`m not a fan of either him or Mane.

13 Jun 2016 15:17:32
Rafa silva seems like more of a cultured, effective and cheaper option for left wing.

13 Jun 2016 07:58:38
Two things
One, Surely if a club state that a player they have signed can only go for the fee they have set then we either need to sign said player or move on instead of all this unprofessional bartering for weeks on end, We really do look ridiulous when it comes to transfers and there is clearly a big problem.
Two, I've just seen Brazil have been knocked out at the group stages for the first time ever in the copa america, now Mr Couthino said he wants to get back to winning cups (i don't think he's ever previously won owt) and this was probably a good platform for that? They really have dropped off in recent times haven't they, definitely not the side they used to be but never fear Mr Couthino did get a hat trick against the mighty Haiti.
Maybe concentrate on actually winning something and improving yourself before running your mouth in the press lad, this club has a history of being winners and your in good hands fella, make the most of it as its a privelage to play for a big club like ours not a stepping stone to the wonders of Spain.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

13 Jun 2016 10:33:44
'Running your mouth in the press lad'. ie. when answering a loaded question in the press with a very reasonable answer? He's never said anything untoward about the club as far as I'm aware.

It's fully understandable that he would want to leave. We should want players to desire winning things first and foremost over desiring a bigger wage packet.

13 Jun 2016 10:34:01
I don't see what Coutinho has done or said that is wrong.
I want all the LFC players to get back to winning cups.
I never pay attention to players or manager in the press. It's 99% unreliable nonsense.

13 Jun 2016 11:01:00
Since when is 'bartering' unprofessional? Negotiations are important with multi-million pound deals.

13 Jun 2016 11:16:57
You do know it takes a team to win a cup . Football is a team game . 1 player can't win you thinks but can help. But I'm with coutinho we should be winning things we should not say oh we what to 2 finals and finishing 8th .

13 Jun 2016 14:23:19
Well, Coutinho`s not going to win anything anytime soon with that dreadfully aweful Brazilian team he`s currently playing on. that much, I can guarantee you.

Hi Eds,

With all the lazy journalism linking us to german players just because of Klopp or players who we may have had interest in some time ago I was wondering is there ever a scenario where journalists are wanted/ penalised just for printing made up links?

In theory if any other type of journo released an article about another person (non sport) claiming they were going to resign, or wanted a new job etc could they not be liable for slander if it is way off the mark.

I am probably way off the mark myself, just get frustrated with us being linked to everyone just because the media want to sell papers. If it was't for this site none of us would have a clue about what's going on!

13 Jun 2016 10:08:25
Philippe Coutinho starts for Brazil vs Peru‪, this is what he said at the press conference ‬ "I am grateful for everything Liverpool has done for me. Am I happy there working under Klopp? It's clear, he's great, that's why I want too stay"

13 Jun 2016 03:19:19
Hi guys! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's slightly disappointed with who we are apparently linked with signing. Obviously we cannot compete with the likes of city and united financially, but I sense we seem to be lacking some form of ambition in our targets. Although I'm totally behind Klopp, as a fan, I can't help but question some of linked players. I mean Mane. another Southampton player?! I just hope this won't be another disappointing transfer market for the mighty reds! Although we clearly need to offload some players, ED's can you give insight as to why we let Kolo go? I thought he had a great spell towards the end of the season, and with such a young team, he would have provided valuable experience!
Thanks!
YNWA.

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - because Klopp would rather use Gomez as cover in need.}

13 Jun 2016 07:22:15
Probably best to reserve judgement for the players we actually buy rather than the ones we are 'linked' with. Gaston Ramirez, Conor Wickham, Ole Toivenan, etc. Every transfer seasons the same.

13 Jun 2016 07:34:20
I don't get everyone being pessimistic about the players we are linked with, some of our best players in recent times made their big step up at Liverpool (Alonso for example) . Pretty much all of Klopps players at Dortmund who everyone considers world class were anything but before he brought them and gave them their chance. In 3 years we might well be being bitter about Karius or Zielinski (if he comes) if they decide they want to move to the Barcas or Bayerns of this world after stepping up like Suarez and possibly Coutinho did. If we want immediate results we should have tried to get a different manager in like mourinho who builds quality squads quickly but don't last long at any club. Otherwise I think we should let Klopp get on with trying to get his targets and in a few years time we might be looking at signing 1 or 2 'marquee' players when the rest of the squad is at a sufficient standard for how Klopp wants the squad to work.

13 Jun 2016 08:13:26
First of, I'd like to say I'd be happy with the signings Klopp makes.
But, I am also dissapointed when we lose players we brought in and "improved" or "nurtured" into better players. Then seeing them move to bigger clubs.
So, this leads me to ask this: maybe we shouldn't bring in the players that are looking to improve and get noticed at Liverpool, maybe we should bring in players that are on a good level, but are not going to end up at/ back at bigger clubs. A player like Sanchez made the move to Barcalona, so there's little chance he would move back there now from Arsenal.
I really feel that the possition we in now, has a lot to do with us losing our best players at crucial times.
We tend to look to build around our star player, then we lose them. And we have to start all over again.
I think its now more crucial to look to keep the star player.

13 Jun 2016 09:04:37
Just get the right player. Ya don't wanna overthink it too much and be presumptious. Important to have a vision and then a plan to deliver on it. Ours is about being self-sustainable.

13 Jun 2016 09:31:57
If the likes of Barcelona and bayern are sniffing round our players 3 years after we sign them then I'm happy with that as it means they have been playing brilliantly for us and we are going to get a good price for them if they go.
It's when lower league clubs are sniffing round you have to worry about your transfer policy.

13 Jun 2016 10:44:20
We have the financial muscle less than that of city united etc, but if last three seasons are anything to tell, we can buy that big player if klopp were to say i want this and this big dollar player. people need to realise klopp is not that sort of manager and unless it is a player he feels will justify the tag he won't buy it. So forget established big money signings. Klopp doesn't do them. we need to stop with this and accept we are at best a top 4 club. klopp would require another season to get his stamp on the team, so chill and let this season get out. if you are expecting wonders i am sorry it is not happening. i say save money and invest next season because this season every big club in europe wants to sign players. there is going to be massive money and a hell lot of transfers this season and unfortunately for us, being the position we are in, all good players will have a better option on the table than us.
Add to it the woes Ed002 has explained on numerous occassions with out dealings and general behavior in the market. it is best to lower our expectations and sit this window just watching around. we have added a defender a midfielder and a much required keeper already. All we need is a winger now, buy that and close shop. Train and practice hard, get the team gelled and ready come august to reach top 3/ 4.
Also next season based on what i have read here owners will probably look to sell and new owners will mean new business model which may get us out of the bad market reputation we have right now. If football is a business which well we all know it is, having a bad reputation is the death of a business. Owners are looking to sell and i think that will help us out.
dont get me wrong FSG have been good owners and they have done their bit, but i think a change is required and probably FSG is also looking to move forward. So I think this season its imperative to reach top4 atleast which this team can do.
I know well most would disagree because without good players and other 4 teams massively strengthening and likes of tottenaham and westham arguably better than us its going to be tough. but if we invest and still fail it might be a difficult proposition for us three seasons in a row. it might harm us a lot more. i think our clubs future lies with another owners. FSG for all their good and bad, mostly good would look to cash in next season.

Hi ed001,

Please could i have your opinion on a few players?

Jaap stam
Roy keane
Georgi kinkladze
Juninho

Do you think that these players could have fit in at liverpool and helped us win titles if thry were in our team?

I think keane and stam would have been the steal we needed in the mid to late 90's.

Posters opinions too please.

Regards

Crooky.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - it is impossible to say, but it is unlikely as they were not the players we were really missing from the teams at their time. All excellent players in their own right, who would have improved the team but not the actual type of players we needed then to complete our team.}

Stam was solid and would have been an improvement.
Keane was brilliant, would have walked into most teams.
Kinkladze was too inconsistent IMO.
Juninho was brilliant for 2 seasons.

I think all except Kinkladze would have improved LFC at the time.
