That Robin Van something looked half decent for Netherlands tonight, any interest from Liverpool eds?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

That header tonight was absolutely world class. I think Van Persie could go on to be one of the players of the tournament. The player I wish we would sign, in all seriousness, is Daley Blind. Left back and defensive midfield for Ajax, and supplier of that excellent cross for VP's header.

Granted we signed Can and are looking at Moreno, but if the latter falls through. hey, what's standing in the way? Van Gaal? To be sure he'd want Champions League football next season?

Agree0 Disagree0

Aww c'mon we can't take Man Utds only decent player.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 01:41:25
Blind did have a good game, maybe one to watch?
I expect he might be of interest to Man Utd?

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 22:09:22
I'm really warming up to Roy Hodgson. He has an air of knowing what he is doing (unlike at Liverpool). I just hope he is brave and goes for it. Look at the Dutch. Until they decided to attack they looked average at best. On the front foot they were so much better.

Any chance of Robben. (jokes).

No seriously, excellent performance from the whole Holland squad. Spain changed too much to accommodate Costa but it just didn't work.

Back to basics for them.

Just out of interest Ed, what's the situation with Daley Blind? Looks a quality fullback.

Red Rum

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no situation at all right now.}

13 Jun 2014 21:50:25
I hope Ayyen Robben shows BR, We need Shaquiri and Kono more than Lallana.
. Wingers are match winners.
Common BR sign Kono. His pace would tear all the defenders.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

The thing is though Harry, Robben played as a false 9 tonight, not a winger. So, not getting your point.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 09:00:53
I can see sterling to go on and play that role for us he has the power speed with a bit more experience he could be as good if not better than robben.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:13:15
Tommy

I agree, Probably the reason Sterling was a huge success with Liverpool. We play with pace and Kono/Shaquiri are blessed with pace and trickery.
The last goal by Robben to beat Ramos was just and pure pace.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sterling does remind me of robben a little bit come to think of it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Aarjen Robben has been outstanding tonight.
I don't suppose . no, perhaps not

Eds fellow reds, the refs are already the World Cup up .the foul on cassias no different to the one in Brazil game, if anything more. Contact from RVP

{Ed001's Note - both goals should have stood if you ask me.}

I agree ed001 but we still would like consistentcy

Eds why are metro reporting were back on for Firmino? He ain't moving this summer is he? Thought he was settled after his recent move.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is the Metro, do you expect anything other than nonsense from that rag?}

Hhmmmm fair point Ed. dunno why I read it or even posted it tbh.

Lets get back to the Shaqiri posts. Get him in the bag Ayre!

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:14:37
Roberto Firmino is an excellent player. Seems you haven't seen him much.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 19:17:09
Ed002, I know we hold an interest in him and made a verbal offer, but are you aware of Dejan Lovren handing in a formal transfer request at Southampton (or informally letting them know of a desire to leave)? Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - He wants to move on, yes.}

13 Jun 2014 17:42:40
Hi eds reports are saying that we are about to start talks over firminho? Do LFC hold an interest in him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I thought it was Lellana, Shaqiri and Meyer today?}

14 Jun 2014 09:05:26
There isn't as many talks to sort out world peace.

13 Jun 2014 21:15:52
Diego Costa is a disgrace. Should have been sent off!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2014 21:51:51
He will make people forget Suarez. That's guaranteed. I could see Chelsea taking a disciplinary action on him sooner.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 22:03:24
Agree! He's a thug and a bad human like Luis Suarez, but obviously without the talent and footballing ability of Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

Calling either of these players a bad human (especially Luis) is a pot calling the kettle black. A black pot.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:17:23
Suarez has a poor past in the league something our rivals bring it up each and every given opportunity.
Diego Costa would turn the attention from Suarez to him with ease.
We could bet him getting at-least 2 red cards in the first season.
He looked very poor yesterday ( possible due to injury) And its a fact, Arguably the best team in the planet doesn't have world class strikers.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:56:22
Harry the best team on the planet does have a world class striker but he is in his 30's and just joined a below par league. David Villa would have made the difference last night as Spain wouldn't have been trying long balls at every opportunity.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 21:03:43
another dodgy penalty, this time in the Spain v, Holland game, Costa fooled the ref in my opinion, already looking for the ref before he fully hit the ground, watch him closely more cheating!

Busquets is an embarrassment

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2014 22:04:30
And so overrated!

No he is not overrated. He is really annoying and a 'disgrace' but he is an excellent player. I believe he is in the top three cdm's in the world!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 18:40:21
Is that a can of shaving foam the refs are carrying round to draw lines on the pitch?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2014 19:10:13
It's some sort of spray which disappears after some (30 I guess) seconds
p.s Mexico really look good

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 19:42:49
It's to stop the cheaters from cheating. They also have another can they spray on players when they dive.

Agree0 Disagree0

They look alright mate but wouldn't say really good.
Ps how old does mark lawrenson look with that tan. Aged 20 years in a week. Lol

Agree0 Disagree0

The aerosol can is something the MLS uses to keep the defenders the proper distance away from the kicker on freekicks. It doesn't stay on the field long. I think its a pretty good idea; now if they could only get referees to start getting the calls right.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - it has been in use in South America for years.}

I for one think the way LFC are going about their business for the transfer window which only opens on the 1st of July 2014 is quite clever.

The deal for Moreno is in place, who knows, maybe the player has already agreed terms with LFC. Sorting out the nitty gritty of the payment terms could be the only thing left to do.

I believe we have moved on from Lallana due to being priced out and turned our intentions to Shaqiri who would be a brilliant signing.

You can also be rest assured that LFC know how much they need to cough up to secure the services of Lovren after making a verbal bid. To get Lovren will probably have to see us moving on the likes of Agger first though.

We could slowly be lining up all our 'big' deals and once the transfer window opens we will know exactly what is required to move in for the kill.

LFC without a doubt need a LB and without a doubt will sign another forward and we will do best to get a CB too. Just sit back and enjoy the ride!

Hey ed001, and any other reds or eds eds that may wish to comment. I have a question about our ladies and in turn, the superleague.

Do you think they are trying to grow the domestic ladies league too quickly?

Liverpool went on a big spending spree for the ladies team last year and it brought success. This year however we've had a bit of a slow start.

do you think that there should be a cap on wages and internationals in the womens game to encourage growth and development? or how would you develop the ladies game in the UK.

I personally think that it's tried emulating mens football too quickly.

for roughly 100 years the mens team in Liverpool was dominated by local players and some other brit nationalities. Then from 1990 till todays game we slowly saw more foreign nationals creep into the side.

Liverpool ladies team has been going for only 25 years. Yet it already has 5 players with other nationalities. I feel this may hold back English/British womens development in the game. I would hate to see Liverpool purchase titles. as we did last terms by buying every other teams best players.It may put other women off the game with 1 team being financially dominant, I also found it boring arsenal ladies won the title 8 years in a row and went unbeaten in the league for something like 5 years.

Also with regards to the superleague. Do you think male goal keepers should be introduced. I like watching the womens football from time to time, but the female keepers are just so far behind in their ability and development it really let's the game down.

Any thought from people on this would be great. I've put it on the LFC forum due to womens team being what sparked my query.

{Ed001's Note - the important thing is competition mate. Any sport grows best when it has a close competition. Tennis was at its height when there were a number of top players rather than just one winning everything. The important thing for women's footie is to make sure the money is spread fairly and allows a number of teams to compete.}

13 Jun 2014 16:39:11
Eds, any truth that LFC are watching Adem Ljajics of Roma (he replaced Erik Lamela). Apparently, Roma may be willing to sell as the club are not convinced he is good enough.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I wouldn't think so.}

13 Jun 2014 16:25:33
Afternoon Eds, is there any interest in the Chilean forward, Eduardo Vargas? I believe KK wanted to bring him to LFC when he was manager.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, but not from LFC.}

13 Jun 2014 15:05:09
i know I've got a huge Liverpool Bias but I think that Lucas would have done a much better job in central midfield that either Gustavo or Paulino. both were pedestrian throughout. Hernanes was no better.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Think how different the conditions are there pal. I like paulinho a lot. Luis gustavo is good. I don't think Lucas would have done much better. I don't particularly think Brazil had a good game.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 15:31:20
I agree Lucas could do a fine job, but Gustavo was one the best players last night easily.

Agree0 Disagree0

Modric and Raktic had way too much time and space for me. the job of the centre midfielder is to control the middle and set the tempo of matches, neither of which was accomplished by the brazilian midfield

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 16:00:03
Without doubt, Oscar was the best player on the pitch.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think fernandinho is a better option to start for them!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 17:32:27
Agree with Abaka Oscar was immense last night. I couldn't understand why Coutinho didn't make the squad either as imo he is better then some of the players that made it and I'm not being biased 😜

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 19:24:13
I'll have Coutinho there ahead of Hulk any day.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:23:39
Brazil play 4-3-3 and TBH Countinho is average on wither wings. He is an excellent player played at No.10.
So replacing him with Hulk won't improve.
Lucas wouldn't do anything better than Gustavo or Paulinho.

Eds how are Chelsea with regards to the ffr. They don't seem to be curtailing there spending. Surly Liverpool have a bigger turn over than Chelsea. Whilst they buy costa and fabregas we get lambert and can. What's happening

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool's turnover is a lot less than Chelsea. Chelsea has sold the likes of Mata, Luiz, De Bruyne and are fine in respect of FFP rules. Liverpool will be in better shape than they have been going forward.}

Cheers ed for your response

Well, Bacary Sagna has got a new club, Manchester City. It seems to me that Arsenal are becoming almost like a feeder club! I'm sure City could be made up of ex Arsenal players ;-).

Anyway, come the 1st July, I hope we can bring in the quality we need for the first 11

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2014 13:59:44
City would take a lifetime to match Arsenal FC. They are a class above manchester city.
Man City even bought Owen hargreeves at 30, without even kicking a ball for nearly 2 years and paid wages for one full year.
Arsenal did the right not to offer wages above what they feel Sagna or any player worth.
Hatss off.
They would still find some real gems facross the country and would make him another Sagna.
They don't buy players, They make world class players.

Thats one for DG my fav gunner.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Harry

Agree0 Disagree0

How are MCity doing with respect to FFP rules?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I am not interested in discussing money.}

You could say that inability to spend and determination to bring through players is what's cost them in the past. You've got to have the right balance. I think arsenes/arsenals transfer committee have been too stubborn in the past and it's probably cost them the ability to compete for a title for a decade.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:20:18

Might be, But that inability is the smile you see on the face of their owners. They are a well run club

Hy Ed
I m dissapointed with lfc approach of signing moreno. I dnt knw wht the restrictions in that deal. But hope he will sign for us. And do u expect lovern moreno shaqiri and lallana to sign for reds.
thanx
ur response will be much appreciated.

13 Jun 2014 14:00:38
Lovern, Moreno and Shaquiri would bankrup the club, Would you want all them to join?

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry

Lovren, Moreno and Shaqiri are targets for LFC and pretty sure FSG will be more than willing to buy all three if we can negotiate suitable deals which fit in with our budget.

Where we will have to step up is making sure the players who are surplus to requirements get moved on to recoup some of the money being spent on bringing players in.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 18:00:53
Max

All 4 won't be coming to Liverpool FC, Its Either Shaquiri or Lallana. All together would cost us close to 80 mill (rough figure). We won't be splashing that kinda money.

Agree0 Disagree0

I did not say we were going to sign Lallana.

Maybe you should go read my post again as clearly you only want to see what your eyes want to see.

Lallana is nailed on. We cannot overturn it, Over the top the 3 you mentioned. So drop one name and we should be fine.
110% Lallana would be singing for us.

Why don't we keep suso and not buy a player who can play on the wide midfield. He was really quite good when he played over a year ago. Give him a chance and save some money?. we coped fine with the squad last season and we have already added two people to it

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jun 2014 12:44:43

Hi Eds, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the reported comments from Real Madrid.
Ronaldo reportedly doesn't fancy playing alongside Suarez, and Ancelloti rates Benzema very highly, and is not 100% convinced that Suarez would be a major improvement for the team.
Do you think these comments have any basis in reality, and if so, would you still expect Real to bid for Luis this summer?
Amazing player, but I'm getting fed up with the endless exit rumours, and tbh selling him at age 27 could be a shrewd move financially, provided we can get a replacement with the quality of Sanchez or similar.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I can help a little perhaps. I understand that Ronaldo has made no secret about how he feels about Suarez and when asked about him interviews tends to extol the virtues of Benzema. Ancelotti will work with the players he is given and, generally, would not interfere with transfers at all. It is fair to say that he sees Suarez as troublesome and, I would think, would rather not work with him. However, Perez does want to make several high-profile changes to the team this summer and he wants Suarez amongst others. Suarez's representatives have kept Real Madrid (and a couple of other clubs) abreast of the situation. Suarez has said he will be guided by his representatives. I don't know how Zinedine Zidane feels about the situation but the president, with his advisors, are very soon (it may already have happened) to outline their plans and expectations for next season to Carlo Ancelotti.}

Thanks very much Ed- my guess would be that Perez will want to get his way and will probably overrule the negative views of others, so I giess a bid can still be expected this summer. One can only hope they make their moves early enough that Lfc have time to sign a replacement.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jun 2014 13:11:25
Ed002, that's a perfect reply. But Y would Ronalod feel insecure about Suarez is beyond me. Therz no point in discussing about his behaviour, As Real Madrid FC is much bigger than Ronaldo. Suarez if moves to Real would end up bagging atleast half amout of goals scored by Ronaldo (Thats 100% guaranteed).
Without offloading Benzema ( Which would disrupt Zidane ) They won't come for Suarez.
Ronaldo Suarez Bale looks exceptional on paper, But that's EGO AND SELFISHNESS written allover.

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe LS will object to go to Spain because of the imorallity of paying such low taxes on his earnings in a country with 25% unemployment - compared to the 50% the UK taxman has off him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would not think ego and sellfishness would describe Bale one bit. He seems a very descent chap to me.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jun 2014 10:28:49
The Irish

He had more yellow cards for diving than anyone at PL. The reason he hasn't shown there is just his first season, and he is happily to be in the shadow of Ronaldo. That would change once Suarez comes in.
But the Irony is, All would be still hitting at least 20-30 goals.

Do clubs have the right to refuse let their players play
a match in the WC if they are concerned about injury?
I'm thinking of Liverpool with respect to Suarez who is
coming back from sergery? Gerrard was reported to have a groin problem, Real Madrid with respect to Renaldo who injured his knee in training yesterday?
Do their clubs monitor their players and could they be effectively be 'pulled' from the WC?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If there is a risk the medical staff will speak but once the competition starts access will be restricted.}

Ed002, it seems I have got on your nerves recently. Just to let you know, I have R and R TFP, but sorry if I've been pissing you off by asking stupid questions- if I have, it's just because I (irrationally) am eager for transfers to go through. Hi eds

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I could've sworn a post was put up late night on rumours, about Alberto Moreno, and it was swiftly taken down, after one of the Eds replied something like, 'Negotiations are not ongoing', or something from the same mould.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - All it was for someone asking if Liverpool are "locked in negotiations" for Moreno. They are not - the situation has been explained about the money and the problem the club has to make a decision over.}
