What would be a realistic target for Liverpool this coming season. Obviously I want us to win the league but if we can't manage that then I would say that we should look to finish above Everton and Spurs. If we can overtake Arsenal as well then a good job has been done.

I am hoping that the football we play will be as good as anybody and we should be close to being top scorers.

We want to be going in to the last 6 games with a chance of Champions League football.

If we can do that then the following season we can really start to talk about breaking back into the top 4 and being genuine challengers again.

Our number 7 may be going but we are building a strong squad and teamwork will be the route back to success.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I see this season bein a lot more open then that mate.tp 4 is there for the taken for me

Agree0 Disagree0

Aside from league position I'd like to have a January where we have no need to strengthen and more importantly the fans don't feel like the team is inadequate. ForzaRed

That might be a trifle difficult red custard.

I don't know if its just me but I think that with the height and passing ability of Luis Alberto he should be converted to a CM.

He played there today against Preston alongside Pacheco with Lucas sitting behind them (in an inverted triangle middle three).

He seem suited for that role more than if he were playing at AM or LW.

His responses were good, made tidy passes but also penetrating passes & also made runs into the box from deep.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

After 1 preseason friendly and first game for the club against Preston Your wanting to change his position!

Priceless

I think it's Pacheco's last chance this preseason, he looked desperate to succeed today, I felt for the lad, if he doesn't play well in these games I think he's gone! so, I hope he does well.

At last the Team is on the pitch and for all those who pre judged our purchases in the transfer market can see what they bring to our club . It's been hard hearing all the criticism when these guys ain't even played for us yet. So let's just live the dream and have faith because who knows how special the season could be?

Hi eds, I know there is probably no chance of this but. What about a straight swap deal of Suarez for alonso and higuain? Would be complicated I'm sure but I would take it. What you think guys?
Kyle

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would love it, as would most Reds. However, Xabi would maybe come but would Higuain? Doesn't seem so

Agree0 Disagree0

No, I wouldn't take that deal

Agree0 Disagree0

Get Noel Edmunds and open up the multi coloured swapshop

Tranfer done

No Worries

Agree0 Disagree0

Not a chance, alonso in last year of his current contract and worth around 7-8 million. I would want them both plus 10 million to complete a deal and with that I would be putting that towards a deal for Erikson.

Just won't happen, or very very unlikely!!

I just want to say, its about time the FA 'strengthens' retrospective action on incidents.

I really hope we see the end of dangerous tackles and violent behaviour being unpunished by the FA just because 'the ref saw the incident and didn't take any action at the time'

We shall see.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

This will apply to everyone but the FA favourites, Man U, Spurs,
We have no chance, would not surprised if they went back two seasons for us!

I hate a cowards tackle! over the ball, after the bad touch, a planted foot, but i'm a firm beliver that if your good enough you don't get caught properly! you see it coming and protect number 1 first! the best players never get caught properly

well it was a very good performance today.
friendlies are all about individual performances
and lfc had a lot of good ones
good day for the entire team but borini and downing.

i think pacheco was really surprisingly good today.
he still shows he wants to play. he is good squad player
and selling him on the cheap w/o giving the lad a fair run is not right.
he should be given a chance this season as this season we would be testing a lot of young players.
also I think we should get rid of downing now. he just doesn't cut in.

UNITED LOOSE, LIVERPOOL WIN! I reckon that's a headline we might be getting used to this season. My heard bleeds for poor puppet moyes!

and when Yesil gets fit we will have a young goal machine on our hands, oh! and Texeira to come in! very rosey!

I don't know if anyone else has notice a marked move in the British media's reporting of Suarez. It has come down a few tones.
Not sure why but the move to another more press liked club (ie Arsenal) or they are beginning to realise that they won't have anyone to bash Liverpool Football Club with next season and may have to get of their backside and do some work to fill their column inches

Good evening fellow Reds,

I posted here last week to say that we were close to signing Mickey unfortunately I was wrong and hold my hands up. I also said that Suarez would still be at Liverpool next season & I stand by those words. The club would be crazy to sell & they know it he is our best chance of CL football next season. The club hold all the cards and I think they will stand by their guns and keep Suarez and sell next season if CL is secured or not. EDS what do you think? Keep up the good work guys great site. {Ed002's Note - The club want him gone.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Once again. Correction. The club do not want him gone.

Agree0 Disagree0

BR says he wants Suarez to stay, why do you think he, s wanted out by the club?, I think he will stay, players one year into a big contract very rarely move on .

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly BR would hardly say that he wanted Suarez out of the club, as that would drastically lessen his sale price. I think it is very likely he will be gone.

Heard we are frontrunners for Connor Hunte's signature following his release from Chelsea. Do you know if this is true?

Also, any news on the Canos and Chirivella signings? Apparently Canos has just about signed and we're still talking to Valencia about Chirivella, but I can find no confirmation anywhere.

Just an update on the post below from a few days ago.Sunderland now agreed a fee so if there was any Liverpool interest (and don't know if there was) it looks over

"This could be totally misplaced so apologies if its not at all Liverpool related.but I'm sure I've heard on here once or twice people asking about Emanuele Giaccherini. well Sunderland have opened negotiations for him and hope to reach an agreement around 8mill. So if anyone did mention him in relation to Liverpool then it's looking unlikely"

Can I make a request to all those Borini bashers out there. Give the lad a chance, he's 21, didn't get the chance to play much or show what he can do last year with injuries and we need to support our players and help them settle in. Sure, we can all see he is trying too hard but at least that shows he cares and wants to do well. Peter Crouch took months to score his first goal yet all the fans supported and helped him. let's do the same here. Remember Lucas, how he was hounded and look how he's not only proven he's a good player but also loyal and loves the club, the badge and what it stands for. Get behind our players, give them a chance for goodness sake. If we don't support Borini how is he ever going to relax enough to fulfil his potential with us. you don't hear him slating the fans or club, demanding higher wages or leaving for CL, Bryan

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Borini he pants - no chance!

Agree0 Disagree0

I thought he had a noteworthy moment of ball control and vision - just lacked the killer strike.
Hopefully next time he'll nail it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hes supposed to be a striker and has never looked like one yet he will be judged on goals I just can't see him being a goalscorer he would probably need a run of games and we can't afford to take that chance and he never will as he isn't better than sturridge I understand people trying to make excuses for him in a bit of hope but he is poor

mayhem 1981

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree.Borini is a good young player. He was excellent for Italy U21's recently. I think he tries too hard at times, instead of relaxing and playing his natural game.
Give him time. he will come good.

Agree0 Disagree0

Borini just needs to score a couple of goals, then he can relax a bit, pressure off, and score some more .
redforever

Agree0 Disagree0

If Borini has as many shots as Suarez last year he would have cored upwards of 50 goals, but he doesn't have the ego or confidence to blow 10 chances a game.

A great start to our pre season today, team looked sharp especially in the first half!

All of the new guys did well today, Alberto providing some nice short and long passes from deep, Aspas with good movement and a decent goal, Toure showing his leadership and ball carrying and Mignolet keeping a clean sheet with a couple of stops, he was also very vocal on the pitch and in organisation which was good to see.

Standout performers today for me were Sterling, Coutinho and Toure.

Ibe played well with his movement and directness and scored a nice goal, but he needs to work on his composure when passing, but hey I'm knit picking here as it was his 2nd appearance for the first team.

Onwards and upwards well done the lads today!

well done everyone slag off a player because he didn't play great in a friendly, ignore the fact he was at the euro U21's and ignore the fact that this was only a FRIENDLY. Pathetic support, how is a player ever going to bed in when they get the abuse Borini gets. He's another Lucas and if fans continue he will be forced out of the club before he has the chance to really make an impact. The abuse he gets its bang out or order, those dishing it out should hang there heads in shame.

Went to the game today against Preston, enjoyed it seeing the new signings play etc! there was a lot if talk about Luis Suarez at the game! Everyone was saying that there is already a deal in place with Real Madrid! I got a programme and there was a page of all the Liverpool players profiles and Suarez wasn't even on it! The players that weren't playing were like Coates, Reina, sturridge but no Suarez! Coincidence? I think not! Watch this space! I remember going to the anfield shop and Suarez wasn't on the kop stand picture in the new kit! Just hope we sort it out soon and not wait until the last few days of the transfer window!

Enjoyed the game today and loved the look of the new signings. I knew Kolo and mingolet would be solid,
but aspas looked great with a goal and a assist on his debut.

I thought alberto looked good today and looks like he will develop into a real player reminded bit of fabregas or xavi type of player, can sit and hold but will get forward too.

One or two quality players and will be good transfer window even if suarez goes.

Sterling and Ibe offer some real options, forget downing and assaidi.

Just my thoughts.

Good match today and nice to see LFC on a pitch playing again. Individual performances aside and trying not to read too much into a fairly benign preseason friendly, I would say that what we saw today is nearly a million miles from how we started in Toronto last season. Passing, movement, touches were all very sharp compared to last year so I find that encouraging.

Unsurprisingly Borini appears to be getting a bit of stick again. Yes he probably should have done better with what was a very good chance but to be fair his link up play was pretty good and he had a touch or two in the box that were very good. Most impressed with Aspas- his pass out to Sterling was brilliant and although his goal should probably not have got past the keeper it was incredibly well hit. Coutinho was amazing as always. Overall a very solid performance and I for one think we are in for a pretty good show every game.

Great goal from Aspas, and him, Sterling and Alberto linked up well.
Borini is trying too hard to impress. He's a good player but needs to relax more and play his natural game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed on Borini.
Feel for the lad.

I've been saying for ages that Borini ant hit a barn door- he showed it again today- hopefully BR will realise from theses friendly that he is not PL quality and give him back to some Italian club willing to pay half of what we bought him for

the amount of players we have is unreal, besides the keepers today we had 22 players and we had gerrard/suarez /sturridge/ Enrique /quates missing. we need to trim the squad and bring in 2 defenders, I would sell quates/skrtl /spearing/ assaidi and flanagan/ robinson will never reach the level required. I heard br talking after the game abt how he wants to play and I am afraid henderson will be next to leave.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Speaking of, anyone have any insight on Enrique? I get why Gerrard and Sturridge weren't there and the situation with Pepe/Coates/Suarez is pretty well obvious, but where was Enrique?

Also thought Allen was excellent, kept the ball moving and even the bad passes he received he done well to get himself between man and ball. still don't think dani has enought to make it though at Liverpool. Hope the rest of his preseason gets better

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I know Kumber mate, his range of passing was amazing.I really think this lad will turn out to be a real player for us, I can;t wait to see him and Coutinho together.I think Borini needs to step up or he will be warming the bench alot.

Interestingly, Alberto played as 1 of the 2 sitting midfielders, with Pacheco ahead. I thought he linked up well, and showed an intent to get forward.

MotM: Jorden Ibe - Quality beyond his years.

Borini as usual was poor and this boy is not, never will be good enough for
vauxhall conference nevermind prem. We should give him away before he costs us

Welcome Aspas: Positional play and passing was very good. Good goal too!

Luis Alberto looks like he needs time.

Sterling: As usual, quick, accurate and tricky. Excellent.

Kolo: Welcome to LFC. Solid without much pressure and good delivery.

Phillipe was solid too. In general LFC played steadily with good possession.
Passing was superb and movement was very good.

4-0 but should have been more.

I liked the look and feel of the team. Good times I suspect!

Man of the match was Sterling no question:)

You make no sense. Luis Alberto needs time yet Borini has to go immediately?! Every player deserves 2 full seasons to prove themselves

I thought Coutinho was man of the match.

Making sense of Borini is easy:

Not good enough for Chelsea.
10 games 2 goals =£11m Striker?
More importantly - injury waiting to happen.

yes u21 Italy he looked okay and comfortable. against other u21s.

Borini is hopeless and the next season will prove this and we will be one years salary down,

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm really not impressed by Borini either. I really don't see what quality he brings to the squad as a whole, and I think if we could get 6-7m for him it could be much better invested in another striker who is a bit different.

You are joking you are actually judgeing borini with his under 21 performance get a grip. As for first match of season I don't think so remember he's played in an under21 comp therefore should be at full steam. The barn door is very safe from todays efforts.

Agree0 Disagree0

Ward did well and showed good composure when called upon and made some nice catches with composed handling. Mig's did well for 80 minutes with not much to do, especially in the second half.

Tbh if real madrid still have interest in suarez I don't see why we don't speak to them about higuain + cash for suarez, if possible would be a clever move, keeps suarez and lpool happy as we've got rid of him, not that I want that but if he wants out then could be a problem. Stops arsenal from buying higuain, I know they have been linked to LS but honestly we wouldn't sell to them. Only problem is with 4 3 3 there can only be one central striker sturridge worked hard and was quality last season, not really fair to play him wide if he wants the central spot if he does continue to score like last season that said I don't know about his injury if it has healed or will miss the start if someone could clear that up with any knowledge thanks, then higuain could be a good player to have indeed :) and if he did stay at lpool for a long time and scored goals he will be loved, he wants to be somewhere where he is appreciated.

can somebody explain to me why brendan can not just say to saurez look you have 3 more years left on contract your not going full stop .if we do not hold onto suarez we will struggle again this season.
we will find it very hard to get top class strikers to come to anfield without the lure of champions league.this season is vital that we reach the top four, its true we have fallen down the pecking order in the league and the only way up is to keep are best players and add more top quality additions to the side.Also all this talk of arsenal buying him really so how will that help Liverpool getting above arsenal.brendan show us your quality as a manager deal with suarez and show us some marquee signings .bring the dreams of the fans to reality once again.ynwa {Ed002's Note - Suarez wants out. Liverpool want him out. Hopefully that helps.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Correction. Liverpool do not want him out.

Mark {Ed002's Note - Try not to be gullible. They are sick of the runt and want him out to give them the money to buy a couple more players.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Cheers ed just for me I can not see were his 30 goals is going to be replaced next season he carried us last season scoring goals from nothing as brendan said he is a magician and the only magician we have but hopefully we can pull a rabit out of the hat after he is gone
:(

Agree0 Disagree0

Suarez scored a lot less in the 2nd half after Sturridge/Coutinho came in the side. I don't think he'd get near 30 playing wider like he was (and where he would likely be playing this season was he not probably leaving).

Agree0 Disagree0

The way I look at it is its better to have a few players to score goals than one. One player in Suarez can score 30 goals a season. Other players we are bringing in with the Suarez money, could get 40 goals between them next season which is better for the club and its reputation. Just my views of course. Cheers.
ROI.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jul 2013 17:07:00
We didn't fall apart at the end of the season without Suarez, goals will come from elsewhere. United and City have strikers on a par with Luis, but teams like Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs still managed to score goals and win games. Think about it, if our defense was solid as a rock and we conceded no goals all season we would only need to score a 38 goals to win the league - sounds silly, but it's a team game, everyone plays their part, and as much as I love Suarez and he had an awesome season (when playing), he can be selfish and the rest of the team rely on him too much. If the money we got for him was reinvested we could bring in 2 or 3 quality players that can boost the defense, bring some goals from midfield as well as a replacement striker who could contribute as well, thus improving the team. I don't mind if he stays or goes, but if he does go I def won't miss his off field antics tarring the good reputation of our club. Let's face it, nothing wrong with supporting our own player but if he was Utd's striker we would absolutely detest him.

Super

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree we did not fall apart at the end of the season without him and I also agree about the antics off field makes everybody sick to listen to him making excuses for his behavour
but as brenden said he is a winner and when suarez is on the field we are much more dangerous as he is world class .if we could just get one more season out of him and get ourselves back into the champions league we would then be able to attract the elite to replace him.ynwa

Spearing and Assaidi start Henderson out of position .I don't know why managers do that.Spearing should be left on the bench.I can't see the point of playing a player like Hendo out of position unless you want to unsettle the player so he seeks a move.

i just hope it doesn't come back to bite us, maybe a full seasons out on loan would of been a better option to see if he could step it up.

Must say I'm very excited to see how Coutinho does this season.
He has huuuuge potential, already a fine player but he could be as good as anyone we've ever had at LFC.
He seems to have it all already at only 21, even started working hard to win the ball back a couple of games into his LFC career.
Looks like the real deal!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thr good thing is your not putting loads of pressure in the lad to be your savior :-)

Agree0 Disagree0

Must admit I'm a bit worried about 2nd season syndrome. He is being massively hyped by most.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think the key to getting the best out of Coutinho is keeping Lucas fit and in the first team, which will give Bucko Boyo a bit of an eadache, we've all ready seen Shelvey ruthlessly executed, more exits, keep hold of Henderson, and Stevie Gerrard to teach Henders the finer points of distribution, if it clicks this season, the sky is the limit, no doubt, anyway the sun is blazing the reds are on the telly there's cold beer in the fridge what's not to like about it, I can feel it in the air tonight.

If you saw the highlight you would agree that skrtl should never wear the shirt again.75% of the goals before carra took over were his fault.

Have to say if Norwich sign Alderweireld I'd be disappointed that we didn't take a punt at the price quoted he is a top class player and at a good price, I think Skrtl needs to move on as he has underperformed for 2 years plus, I'd loan Coates out as he still has potential.

Does anyone else think that Martin Kelly will be pushed forwad to cover RW this season?

In the same vein as GJ, he seemed better going forward than actually defending in the 11-12 season, while Wisdom showed some real strngth at the back. We still have McLaughlin, who shows real promise, and Jon Flannagan fits in somewhere.

2" taller than Gareth Bale, he has real pace and could be the answer to depth up front that we need, with Downing getting on a bit and probably moving on, and Alberto may not be ready for first team PL season right away.

this dedution is, of course, based on how his new hairstyle makes him look like Edinson Cavani.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Martin Kelly is injury prone see Rob Jones for details!

Have a feeling we won't get any of them though and it will be some 'potential. {Ed002's Note - Grenier is not moving to Arsenal. Or any where else this summer.}

Those upset about Suso being loaned to a Spanish club rather than an English club should not worry overly much. If I remember correctly Suso played in some games against some physical teams last season (Stoke springs to mind) and acquitted himself well enough and so therefore the physical side of the game doesn't phase him. Clearly he needs games to nurture his emerging talent. I'm sure Buck rates him but feels he wouldn't get enough time in the first team this season. If he plays regularly during his loan spell I'm sure he'll come on leaps and bounds and would be much better placed to challenge for a regular spot next season. Ultimately, not being loaned to a British club makes no difference in his case, and as I say, he just needs regular games at a higher level than youth football and La Liga certainly qualifies. I still hold high hopes for him in a Liverpool shirt, but this season will be a crucial one for him and will decide if that hope is unfounded or not.

Jon

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Hopefully not another Pacheco.
He's a fine player but needs to show more effort for me.
Looks disinterested at times.
He's not good enough yet to just jog back to help his team mates.
But given time, experience and games I think we might well have a future star.
This move is crucial for him and should tell all.

Agree0 Disagree0

If Suso had an extra yard of pace he would be a starter for us already. He is more suited to Spain or Italy imo.

Agree0 Disagree0

Suso needs to add goals and more assists to his game at Premier League level. This season is a big one for him, I agree he needs to work harder similar to Pacheco, talent in ambundance but the graft and attitude must be there compliment the skills. I hope he comes back and forces BR into playing him.

Hi eds,
Do you expect Liverpool to renew any interest in Ince now that he has decided to turn down Cardiff's offer. Correct me if I'm being an person, but if Blackpool accepted 8mil from Cardiff and Liverpool apparently get 50% of the sell on fee, could we swoop in now and get him for 4mil, or does it not work that way? Or are Liverpool simply no longer interested in the player? Would appreciate any insight you guys have.
Cheers,

Just seen frank de boer has to erikson not to sign for Liverpool because the style of football we play? Well after watching the second half of the season we where playing some of the best attacking passing football in the leauge so no sure what style would suit erikson?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think franks done us a favour eriksen is lazy and over rated, he doesn't score many goals to say the poor league he plays in, doesn't do any defensive work disappears a lot. he has potential to be a lot better but I doubt he'll ever put the extra effort in to achieve it. So cheers frank you've done us a favour.

Burak Yilmas is on the Radar supposedly from Galatasaray. I've just watched the "complete striker" clip on YouTube. Based on that and yes I know they only show the good bits, BUT he does have some really good striker qualities/awareness/touch/vision and at 27 years old he is, in my opinion the perfect partner for Sturridge and replacement for Suarez.

I welcome your thought guys.

Simon

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can't see us signing a replacement for Suarez, I believe we have already signed him.
Other positions are being looked at rather than a striker, regardless of Suarez leaving.

Players available and we must act quick :
1) Aldervield
2) Honda
3) Jovetic
4) Ericksen

Hasn't Honda gone to AC Milan? I think a list of four 'first team' players that's more likely is:
1) Burak Yilmaz
2) Christian Eriksen
3) Bernard
4) Toby Alderweireld

The Belgian from Ajax is a possibility but don't fancy getting any of the rest.
Yilmaz - scores goals but not proven at highest level consistently.
Erikson - likes to talk more than play, comes across arrogant and selfish.
Bernard - don't think we can afford him, he was priced at 25m at the start of the year before appearances at Confederations cup so that will have increased. His club's chairman quoted this in January I believe.

Top of the morning to you 3ds

Don't know about you but I don't think I like the idea of loaning Suso especially to la liga, it will be hard to keep when he has the attention of a lot of clubs (which is inevitable);I thought he was ready to second coutinho at least this coming season as a natural CAM plus he has a unique way of moving with the ball almost as if there's no ball at his feet (like slicking thread through a needle)

Here's to hoping we retain him

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't forget he's only 19, he needs a full season playing week in week out at a high level, he will come back twice the player he is now and if he doesn't you know he's not capable of making the step up.

Good news! Murmurs from the corridors of anfield (well from a member of the medical team) is that they should be ready to conduct a couple of medicals in the coming week or two. Rumour is that we are competing with Roma for Erikkson. With the loss of Mickey, the club will be doing everything to make sure we don't lose out on Erikkson. Rodgers has stated (this is common knowledge) the one area he wants to improve for the first team is the AM position, Erikson is the 1st choice (younger, more potential etc) but the back up plan is Rakitic from Sevilla (Rakitic is disillusioned at the fact that the best players are leaving and feels Sevilla due to their crippling financial position do not have the ambition that he wants).
If Suarez goes we are definitely getting another striker. Sturridge is extremely highly thought of, but the club also wants to ease his burden and with his history of injuries they want to make sure he is managed correctly. In addition, Suarez scored 30 goals last season (roughly) and Brendan wants to add another 20 goals on top of the goals we scored last season. The signings of Aspas, Alberto, signing an AM and return of Borini it is hoped will cover 20 goals plus, but the club are realistic that to expect them and sturridge to also to cover the contribution of Suarez will be expecting too much. Yilmaz has been scouted extensively and is highly regarded and fits the bill, but it all depends on price due to his age. 15 million is the max we will bid for him.(I would love another striker if Suarez leaves - the top clubs all have 4 strikers and I feel Aspas and co are better suited in the attacking positions behind the main striker).
Jorginho is being viewed as being a Creative DM (in the mould of Pirlo). But Verona are playing hard ball and delaying tactics, they know AC Milan have scouted Jorginho.
CB was a priority, but with the likelyhood of Skrtl staying (his wages have put off a lot of clubs - it seems the only option potentially is one of the Moscow clubs), this has been put on a back burner for the moment as we are pretty well stocked in that department. This will only change if Schalke drop their price on Popadum. At the moment Illori is a big target (replace Coates) but with Sporting holding out for a bigger price (hoping other clubs come into play) and their problems with Bruma (potential termination of contract, legal proceedings etc) it seems that Sporting have a lot on their plate and the club is in disarray. Expect this saga to continue, but hopefully we will get our man for 6 million.
Downing is someone who has interested clubs (West Ham the obvious one - and well publicised) but Rodgers recognises his improvement and that he fought to get back into the team. His sale will only be sanctioned if we get a relatively good offer (8/9 million minimum).
LB - Cissokho is being viewed to give Enrique competition - not replace - but Liverpool playing the waiting game, they know he wants to come to Liverpool and Valencia like most Spanish clubs have money issues - 4 million.
PS - expect the Suarez saga to get interesting. PSG will come in (Ibra not happy with the signing of Cavani and the fact that Ancelloti has left - he's thrown his toys out of the pram and he isn't answering any of Blanc's calls - the club have even given Ibra an extended break so he can return to training later - but fear he is engineering a move away - Man City?! - Real aren't a possibility as it seems Ancelloti has an agreement not to sign any players from PSG - Ibra would like to come to the UK - he's annoyed he's never been rated here - he does have an ego)
The transfer merry go round is going to get very interesting over the next few weeks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Murmurs that a medical team will do a medical during the transfer window?

Agree0 Disagree0

That's more of an earthquake of info not murmur. just wish it was true, well apart from the eriksen bit as I think he's over rated and would much rather Honda but looks like he's off to ac Milan.

Fester

Agree0 Disagree0

If Eriksen is our number 1 target, why did we bid for HM?
When Suarez leaves why do we need another striker? We have Sturridge, Borini, Aspas and others could play there.
Why do we need 4 strikers when we only play 1 up front?
I'm sure there are other questions I could ask from your post, but at this point I had read enough.

MUSHROOM

Agree0 Disagree0

We play 3 in MF (ideally I would have Coutinho at AM with Gerrard & Lucas behind). So where will Eriksen play? What about Joe Allen? BR loves him. Henderson?

I don't think we are even after Eriksen tbh.

It's rumours like this the reason the site is going! Don't slate the messenger.

Ernie

Agree0 Disagree0

So much time wasted writing, could have probably become a secret agent and broken into Brendan's office and got the info from him at gunpoint.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mushroom - if you read the post, I pointed out that we lost Mickey (who you refer to as HM) - obv missing out on him gives the impression that he was our first choice.
Erikson is next (so now erikson is first choice as HM not available).

Agree0 Disagree0

Mushroom - do you believe that if Suarez leaves, we won't try and replace him?!? I pointed out that most of the Top clubs have 4 strikers. But explained Borini and Aspas are more suited being part of the attacking trio behind the main striker. Meaning the only striker we have leading the line will effectively have is Sturridge.

You obviously don't understand the concept of having a squad and squad rotation. I bet you think all we need is 11 first team players, and we can use the Anfield ground staff as the subs, because we won't need them as you can only have 11 players.

The next two weeks will confirm what I have said.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alias, If HM was our first choice and we didn't get him, then surely IF we are going for Eriksen he will still be the second choice? How many first choices are you allowed in your world?

MUSHROOM

Agree0 Disagree0

Alias, I fully understand the term squad rotation. I believe we have already replaced Suarez with Aspas. We currently have 3 players that can play CF not including Suarez. They are Sturridge, Borini and Aspas. For me, we have enough cover for when Suarez sods off. Why spend money on a position we don't need any more players for?
As for your other comment I do believe we need 11 first team players. We would get beat if we fielded less and I'm pretty sure there is something in the rules which means we can't field any more than 11.

Just a thought for everyone. Gerrard's legs are going- let'd not try and deny it- however for me last season was his best one since Torres left. This is because he changed his role so he didn't need to use his legs, just his creative quality. In my opinion, if we play like I think Brendan will with a 4-3-3, the midfield three being someone in front of Gerrard & Lucas, surely instead of bringing in another creative player (I know Eds will be tired of this name now but for the sake of the argument let's say Eriksen) surely it would make more sense to buy a more box-box type player, just so as well as adding an extra dimension in attack, Gerrard and Lucas would get more support in midfield? For example someone like Paulinho whos just move to the Spuds? Would love to hear Eds opinions on this.

Why has Swansea got all of this money all of a sudden by buying all these players like shelvey and bony and like 7 other players and could you see them as a threat to us

Also Norwich seems to be spending a lot as well?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Swansea are a well run club financially with one, if not the, lowest wage bill in the Premier League and actually making small profits (last I checked). I'm sure the 20M+ we've given them in the past didn't hurt either.

They are certainly a threat. We're in the mid table mix with them. I'm tempted to have a bet that Southampton will finish above us next season.

~ Aquilani (erm. oh dear).

Agree0 Disagree0

Could you name a few please ed? I think a history section would be really interesting where you could see where Liverpool had targeted players previously. People seem to find it really interesting. {Ed001's Note - Rafa had a double deal for Villa and Silva lined up one year, only for G&H to pull the plug at the last season. That left Rafa furious, it had been really difficult to persuade the pair of them to leave Spain and join us, only for the funds to not be there. To be fair, looking back with hindsight, we would probably have gone under trying to pay for them and pay their wages, so G&H had little choice, but at the time it seemed idiotic.
There was Benzema, we were closing in a deal for him, as Higuain was first choice at the time and he was unhappy. Then Higuain got a season-ending injury and Benzema got his chance and we missed out.
It really depends on how far back you want to go, I mean there was Frank Worthington during the Shankly days who failed his medical.
There was Shearer who chose to join Blackburn as we were unable to offload Ruddock and the club didn't want to put the two of them together. As kids at Southampton the pair of them were known for being a bit of a handful, shall we say. Ruddock had been a pain with us (to say the least) and it was felt best not to pair them up again with the potential for issues it would lead to.
There are many of those kind of stories at every club, maybe it might be a good idea to put up a history section for those kind of stories and for people to talk about memories of the club?}

Why do people keep saying that we need a new cb? Toure is a decent signing we have agger, skrtel, Kelly and wisdom very strong in my opinion! We lack a strong cb! What's toure then? Invest in other areas and January we can look at it then. we still ain't strong enough for the top 4 and should look to improve on last season. what do you think eds?

Frosty ynwa {Ed001's Note - I would think a defensive midfielder would be a higher priority personally.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Toure is back up & no way 1st choice.
The Ajax cb is class, part of the Belgian quality players right now & a great price. We can't lose him.

Agree0 Disagree0

I tend to agree with completely. In my mind, Agger + Toure + Skrtel is a pretty good first team three CBs to choose between (although I suspect Toure + Agger win the start much of the time).

Something I honestly don't know as I've never studied Toure's play much when I've seen him play in the past- is he good at handling corners/free kicks? Cause we most definitely need some help in that department.

Agree0 Disagree0

Toure is in no way first choice? Amazes me that people think that. Not going to say he's guaranteed to start as with BR will probably depend on form, but I would be very surprised if come the first game of the season he was not in the starting 11. Guess we'll see.

Reading that back I suppose it does sound a bit contradictory, Mushroom. What I meant was that I fully expect Toure to start (and think he was brought in to be a starter, not as a backup) unless his form/fitness look poor in training compared to others (the no guarantees part).

Also, can I just say I do love what he's been saying about LFC? Brilliant so far.

Do we want Toby Alderweireld or not? I am sick of reading about it, is he good enough? if the answer is yes why the hold up? he is waiting on an offer so is it Toby or not Toby! that. is the question.

Or is it down to finding a new owner for one of our CBs before we buy a new one?

Toby or not Toby that is the question? That would be a great chant if we bought him.would it not?
In Buck we trust! {Ed002's Note - You can chant it when Norwich visit.}
