Great game, we deserved to get at least a point. Firmino was exceptional, he is a great player but just needs to find consistency. Emre Can was fantastic, the driving force from midfield. His passing was accurate and he is always available to take the ball in awkward positions. Wasn't really helped by hendo who plays his own game and doesn't really communicate with Emre. Moreno and Clyne were effective and look assured while on the ball. Mignolet was a complete disaster as per usual. The first goal is at his near post and he should be easily saving it. The 2nd is just laughable. Lallana and Milner were anonymous once again. Ibe was very frustrating as his final ball was often intercepted. Overall a decent point and on to Sunday.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

13 Jan 2016 23:45:00
The one from the corner, should never get to him. Someone needs to head that out. I feel Ibe gets too close before making a decision so the defender gets a foot in.

14 Jan 2016 01:22:55
Mingo has been costing us goals along with Bogdan, of late and today was no different. He was aweful. I felt Can withered away in the second half and Klopp should have substituted him much earlier. I wasn't worried about Firmino, really. His talent is undeniable. Just happy he shut his critics up hopefully, for good.

14 Jan 2016 01:30:25
Ya I've seen the replays and Lallana completely misses it but still his positioning is all wrong. He's so error prone and not at all reliable. Ya Ibe has a tendency to do that, his final ball/ end product is something that he really needs to work at. Monreal had Ibe in his pocket all day long.

13 Jan 2016 23:31:40
Bit disappointed, but credit to you boys tonight.

Possibly the game of the season?

Believable3 Unbelievable2

14 Jan 2016 01:24:42
What's up, Dag! Really, we should have won the game had Mignolet not gifted you guys two goals. All in all, great game.

14 Jan 2016 02:53:25
It had everything. Sloppiness. Passion. Was a great game to watch. And a pretty fair result to be honest.

13 Jan 2016 22:51:39
I hope Rafa was at Anfield tonight to give Xavi Valero's phone number to Klopp.

Amazing what a beard can do!

Too be fair to the bloke he's played decent since klopp arrived.

14 Jan 2016 01:25:16
Spot on, jamesey!

13 Jan 2016 22:51:07
Interesting ahead of the united game, 3-3 each. Hopefully ours is more moral boosting with the late goals affecting both games.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

13 Jan 2016 22:48:00
Dropping all three points in that game may have had an adverse reaction to the forthcoming game against you know who. So hopefully a late goal as we all know can actually feel like a victory. Klopp now does nt have the rest of the week having to pick em up after a defeat. We deserved a draw ( at least ) and I hope a surge of confidence via Jurgen will spur the lads on. I just have a nagging feeling that if the two goalies tonight were in the opposite sides a home victory would have been secured with almost no problem. A surge of confidence from Klopp in training and on the sidelines is one thing. A surge of non confidence from your keeper to your defence/ midfield / attack and the crowd is another. This needs readdressing immediately Jurgen.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

13 Jan 2016 23:05:12
Maybe, although Chech wasn't that amazing in the first and third goal.

13 Jan 2016 23:28:34
There is no GK in the world that could have stopped Firmino's second goal.

14 Jan 2016 01:29:12
Spot on, Mickey! No matter ho well we may have played, we have no GK reliable enuff to help the team Mignolet and Bogdan are assured of making a mistake at some point and that is costing us dearly. I hope Klopp rips that contract offer for Mignolet to pieces and get Ward in here to take his place this summer.

13 Jan 2016 22:34:45
Is Joe Allens Liverpool career about to make the sharpest U-turn since Fabian Delph said he was staying at Aston Villa?

Believable10 Unbelievable2

13 Jan 2016 22:46:43
Unlikely.

13 Jan 2016 22:50:44
No.

I don't want to be down on a lad who's scored a crucial goal for us and Allen's not the worst player around by any stretch of the imagination. But he's shown over his Liverpool career that he can't produce good performances consistently. He strings a few decent matches together and then has a few mares in a row. And then gets either injured or dropped. Don't see why that's going to change.

I'd rather see him play than Milner because Milner is all running and bluster with no craft or intelligence, but I wouldn't start him against the Mancs (although Klopp might), I'd go Lucas, Hendo and Can.

13 Jan 2016 23:10:28
We don't really have any other player like allen though I feel. he really spices things up in are midfield. can and lucas are great for defensive dutys. allen is great for atacking while also breaking up play and reading the game. henderson is a bit of everything. 2 attackig midfeiders is better than 1. henderson and allen are great at intricate passes. i would only play can and lucas if we need to be more defensive or if there are no other options.

13 Jan 2016 23:40:07
Allen lacks game intelligence I'm afraid. He gets the ball and without looking instantly wants to get rid of it usually to a defender.
He's the opposite of Molby IMO.

14 Jan 2016 00:49:20
I think Allen is very effective against teams that play with the ball on the ground (best games have been against Arsenal, Man City. ) but gets completely lost when playing against direct physical sides that use pace, strength and aerial ability. Man Utd destroyed him by putting fellaini against him.

I personally think we can do better simply because others are more versatile and can withstand an aerial barrage (Hendo/ Can) but there's no doubting he's a useful player.

Well done on the goal -good run into the box, a vital finish and sharply taken.

I think to be fair to Joey Allen has been decent. But I think it doesn't help anyone with a team a bit unbalanced with a lot of central players in MF!

13 Jan 2016 22:33:41
Joe Allen showed great character tonight. Great little technician.

Believable9 Unbelievable3

13 Jan 2016 22:38:31
i think milner disagreed with your post.

13 Jan 2016 22:45:34
To be fair i thought Milner was good today.

13 Jan 2016 22:51:36
I'm by far Allen biggest fan but let's hope it's not too little too late. If he's going to make it at lfc I would think it would be under Klopp. With the high pressing high energy stuff from everyone else I think Allen being slow, methodical and helping us to keep possession may add some balance. I know Hendo has just come back but I got to say Can and our midfield looked imbalanced, compared to of late. I don't know if Lucks and Can work better together or what but there was a little something missing in the centre today I thought. A good point and cracking game though!

13 Jan 2016 22:58:05
explain how milner was good. he could have stopped the 3rd goal but screwed it up. he's useless on the wing. no creative spark, just simple passes anyone on are bench could do. his workrate means nothing to me. someone like tex would have put him to shame. something allen did when he came on. i feel sorry for milner but it just feels like klopp is picking players who have high wages or high work rate. milner fits those 2 categorys. pick players who can win us games.

14 Jan 2016 01:31:36
Milner was average and no more than that. Allen was decent bar his goal and if Klopp thinks he's good enuff, so be it.

13 Jan 2016 22:22:39
Another one for you ed01 what's your opinion on emre can. Absolutely love the lad. Passion desire power and he has unbelievable talent. But he has that ability to look world class one minute and then lacks composure and makes shocking desicions five minutes later. I know he's only 22. Are we expecting too much. I like him playing with hendo but are we missing a player who can help guide him through spells in games. That's something I notice about us in general everyone's so concentrated on their own game there's no one taking control of defence, midfield etc.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - we expect too much, he needs more help from his partner in there. He looked a lot better with Lucas alongside him, as Lucas is one who talks and concentrates on working with whoever is there. Henderson plays his own game, so Can is expected to just play, when he is not quite ready for that. He is still young and learning.}

13 Jan 2016 22:33:52
He's only going to get better with games, a good run in the team with guidance from Klopp and Lucas and he will end up being absolutely brilliant.

13 Jan 2016 22:45:36
Thought he was closed down very quickly today, and okay he lost it a few times, mostly he was strong and retained possession.

13 Jan 2016 22:47:26
I was going to ask eds and reds opinion is that emre lacks awareness when receiving the ball as he can at times get caught on it, or is that there is a lack of communication happening on the pitch?

The way I was screaming this morning at him that there was a player up his clacker I'm sure he woulda heard me all the way from Darwin!

Solid performance, some really good bits of play, occasional sloppy pass towards the end was frustrating but a sign of fatigue perhaps?

13 Jan 2016 23:47:49
I am the same with Can. But then I remember he's very very young so it's a credit to the lad! Because he's more mature than the likes of Lallana who is much more experienced and older.
Captain Can? I think he has more of an influence than Hendo.

13 Jan 2016 22:21:28
Very entertaining game. Could have been 6-6. Again silly mistakes are costing us points, but we showed great attitude to get the draw. Roll on flat face and the mancs.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

13 Jan 2016 22:19:39
It's situation like this where we need Joe Allen. I'm not talking about his goal but his ability to stay compose and not give away ball cheaply. He have great ability to retain ball. I love Can but at time he's too rash and tried too much, he's still only 22, lots of time to learn.

Believable6 Unbelievable3

13 Jan 2016 22:28:52
The support of the boys in red is refreshing, but I have to point out that the Welsh Xavi turns 26 in a few weeks.

13 Jan 2016 22:32:41
allen keeps things ticking. he shone in the 13/ 14 season. And now that we're playing attacking football again he's showing what he is capable of. him and henderson are great attacking midfielders. can is more like lucas. All good players.

13 Jan 2016 22:47:54
One swallow don't make a summer with allen folks. Defence was poor and shako just makes me so nervous.

13 Jan 2016 22:49:11
Only problem with Allen is that we have too many short players in the team. Gives us a big disadvantage on air balls.

13 Jan 2016 23:18:38
dwarfonaboate, allen over lallana all day. milner not even in question. firmino is showing he can offer something. Ibe is short but has immense quality. I hope klopp makes the right decision in the summer but he seems to favour hard working players.

14 Jan 2016 01:34:45
I will take Allen over Lallana and Milner every day which goes to show how dire both of them are.

13 Jan 2016 22:11:01
I'm happy tonight, was far from perfect, but we showed fight, we actually attacked well, nothing clear cut before the third but, we struggle to pin teams down like that, and didn't leave ourselves massively exposed. Should be a big boost for morale getting an equaliser that late. Happy for firmino, he's hit a few like that, finally one flew in! He was so energetic all night, always in the mix! Hopefully he can kick on from here, I did say he would ;)

13 Jan 2016 22:03:11
fantastic game, again our defence went awol again but great build up play for all 3 of arsenal's goals though, firmino scored 2, joe allan scored and steven caulker up front. i'm away to do the lottery the world's gone mad!

Believable5 Unbelievable0

14 Jan 2016 01:38:23
Our GK was AWOL just like his deputy at Exeter City.

13 Jan 2016 22:02:14
Did not think I will see the day, but here we go: JOE ALLEEEEEEEEEEN! Take a bow, excelcior! Great play for the majority of the day, but half-injured defence and some players losing their heads cost us dearly. Still, well done, the team never gave up and battled for an all important point, keeping pace with United and even closing in on Spurs! All important match coming in, must win against the dire side of loui van harsh!

Believable3 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2016 22:00:09
Firmino a class act tonight, I'm a little gutted we didn't get the 3 points but absolutely buzzing after the late equalizer.

The most exciting game I've watched in ages, love the passion from Klopp and the players, hopefully better things to come YNWA.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2016 22:06:15
How can one player be so hit and miss? I've not seen him have an 'average game', so to speak.

13 Jan 2016 20:24:06
What's up with the shirt removing celebrations? I'm watching the match with my wife and even she as a relatively uninterested observer found it bizarre.

If I had the opportunity and privilege to play professional football and score for a team I loved or wanted to love me, the last thing I'd do is take off that shirt at that moment.

That said, if he wants to score twice in 20 minutes every match, maybe I shouldn't judge him.

Believable5 Unbelievable9

13 Jan 2016 23:31:42
Always something to moan about for Reds fans.

Firmino scores 2 goals, one a worldie, and someone slates him for showing passion.

13 Jan 2016 23:51:17
His second goal was better so why didn't he show same passion?
Because he knew he'd be sent off.
My thoughts on it are show respect for the jersey, keep it on.
He threw the jersey on the ground. I wasn't impressed.

13 Jan 2016 19:14:29
So Milner in and no Lucas! Kind of surprised, hope he plays in the middle, lots of energy from the boys, put them under some real pressure!

Believable6 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2016 19:04:56
An hour to kill before the game and I'm bored so here's a bit of fun. Don't judge me. Best looking Liverpool player ever and the ugliest ever. For me Patrick Berger and Peter Beardsley. Ed's 001 and 002 please feel free to join in. I know Ed's 001 thinks about this often.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - me mam used to have a thing for Paddy Berger, so I am guessing it was him who was the best looking. This is not really my area though mate sorry.}

13 Jan 2016 19:32:19
Best looking player: Alonso

Ugliest player: Konchesky.

{Ed023's Note - Don't believe a word Ed001 says - when Torres was blonde he had the biggest man crush and now I believe his attention has been switched to Joe Allen ever since he grew that beard}

13 Jan 2016 19:53:32
ugliest player has be kuyt surely?

13 Jan 2016 20:06:58
No Ruddock in the ugliest category?

13 Jan 2016 20:25:26
Ugliest is easily Igor Biscan. head like a dropped pie.

13 Jan 2016 21:03:15
Igor the name says it all.

13 Jan 2016 21:11:40
Redo ha ha ha ha. I've seen some girls on a night out that look like that! Great post.

13 Jan 2016 22:04:10
Titi camara was no oil painting either and torres.

13 Jan 2016 22:17:32
Tommy smith.

13 Jan 2016 22:29:13
Joe Allen. starting to look like the Welsh Pirlo with his hair and beard.
Great goal Joe.

Well done lads. great performance tonight.
Firmino showed what he's capable of tonight with two great goals.
Just need to tighten up that defence and we're a match for anyone.
Bring on the Mancs.

13 Jan 2016 22:41:46
Flano and Jay Spearing are scrapping it out for the ugliest in my book!

Off to Anfield in a bit, man I hate playing Arsenal it's such a hard game to call would love to see Firmino texiera and Ibe as a front 3 but think lallana starts, c'mon boys!

Believable3 Unbelievable3

13 Jan 2016 18:38:21
Heard the line up. Lallana and. Milner back in the side. Slightly depressing.

13 Jan 2016 18:05:08
Do you know much about the polish lad grabara eds?
I think that was his name.
If he's pretty highly rated, the club could be looking to get by with Mignolet and ward for the next few seasons, of course it's just pure speculation and most likely crap.
But I'm confused by the decision to extend Migs contract.

Do you know what the plan is for Grabara, is he to young for a loan?
Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - He is a child who cannot turn professional, cannot play for Liverpool at his age and is not going to be part of any plans involving Mignolet. You are light years away with this sort of conjecture.}

13 Jan 2016 17:49:47
Is the game on T. V tonight or is there a link?

Cheers mate.

13 Jan 2016 16:31:18
Ed1,I know you are not a fan of Mignolet, but a big fan of Klopp so I was wondering what you make of the reported contract extension that Klopp has made to him.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - most clubs have 3 first team keepers, he is fine for a back up and allows Ward to develop.}

13 Jan 2016 17:06:48
Would he be happy to play backup Ed?

{Ed001's Note - dunno.}

13 Jan 2016 17:24:24
Liverpool would never have a back up keeper on £60/ 70 grand a week. Its pretty obvious to me that they see Mignolet as No1 for at least the short to medium term. Do i think Liverpool could do better than Migs? Certainly but it doesn't look like the powers that be think so.

13 Jan 2016 18:09:46
I was talking to my brother today and we can't remember Liverpool ever having a decent number two. I'm 40.

13 Jan 2016 18:29:27
Steve Ogrizovic 4 Yrs as Clemence understudy went on to play 507 games for Coventry.

{Ed002's Note - Ogrizovic has already made it clear he has no interest in joining Liverpool during January.}

13 Jan 2016 18:30:21
Wasn't Dudek and Reina on the books at the same time? Surely that counts pegleg?

13 Jan 2016 19:17:37
Chris Kirkland?

13 Jan 2016 19:29:20
Brad Friedel was a great back up. He was probably better than James at the time.

13 Jan 2016 21:58:50
Hooper always did a decent job when called upon. Granted we had a much better back four in those days.

13 Jan 2016 15:25:20
Hi eds do you know what the latest situation with Markovic is?

Seem to be a lot of mixed reports about him lately, some saying Fener want to keep him, others saying his loan might be cut short. Apparently a report today is saying his agent is trying to get him a move to Fiorentina.

I think he's a talent with great pace and we're not exactly blessed with wingers atm so seems weird to cut ties so soon without Klopp having a good look at him.

Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I have answered this plenty of times. Try searching please.}

13 Jan 2016 15:52:48
Fenerebache will look to make the move permanent in the summer. Markovic wants out after we wasted a year of his career.

13 Jan 2016 16:01:07
Does klopp want him to stay?

13 Jan 2016 16:18:44
I don't know I'm just reciting what Ed002 has said but even if he did Ed002 has made it pretty clear Markovic will be looking to move on. Can you blame him? He needs to resurrect his career thanks to Brendan.

So it looks like today and yesterday produced a half decent loan cover, £3.5 million transfer fee and the agreement of a quality addition to the sqaud on a free in the summer. Terrible 'business' all round then.

Believable5 Unbelievable2

13 Jan 2016 14:15:23
So it's 100% that Matip is coming and we're getting £3.5m from the Shelvey sale?

13 Jan 2016 14:19:52
For £3.5m, read £500k, which is what the BBC are reporting.

However, doesn't take away from a really good couple of days! Nice to see us working intelligently rather than just throwing money around (as long as the Pato rumours are unfounded! )

13 Jan 2016 12:33:29
Has it been confirmed that the club tried to recall Wisdom? I personally rate Wisdom quite highly and think if he can get in the squad he will progress well under Klopp

Did the Caulker approach and deal just happen so rapidly that you weren't able to be fed any gossip on it before the media reported it? Very out of the blue.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Hi Eds, would anyone have any information of the young irish lad Zak Gilsenan LFC signed from Barcelona a while back. I know he is probably still very young but just wondering as the press were raving about him at one point.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - he is a child mate, it is not something I am going to go chasing up info on!}

13 Jan 2016 14:32:17
The Irish lad to keep an eye on is Connor Masterson 17 is a youth player, from Dublin. The futures bright for this lad. Youngest player in the squad against Exeter. Came back from Exeter and played for the under 18s in their 3-0 win over United on Saturday.

Half the papers rip ed002 off and pass it off as information "from our sources" so why not haha.

Probably once the window shuts, but I have saved a copy of the message for when I do get time. Sorry!}

2015 calendar year (English football only)

Lloris; Bellerin, Alderweireld, Koscielny, Azpilicueta; Willian, Drinkwater, Ozil, Mahrez; Kane, Sanchez

Those players have all performed pretty consistently across the whole year.

{Ed001's Note - Willian? Seriously? The reason why Chelsea are so poor is that he is their best player of the season and he is so exceedingly average.}

13 Jan 2016 11:04:07
Surely has to be N'golo Kante over Drinkwater hey EMS?

13 Jan 2016 11:05:19
I don't think you have to be the best player to make team of the year? I just think Willian has consistently played to the best of his ability and when Costa, Fabregas, Hazard and Oscar went into hiding he stepped up his game. I think players like Silva are better, but they didn't play to the best of their ability; unlike Willian.

{Ed001's Note - so team of the year is now for any crap player who plays to their level? Not sure you have thought that out. It should be the one who played the best in their position. Willian was awful last season anyway, so you are picking him based on this season, which would put him light years behind Mahrez, who was decent last season and outstanding this. I fail to see any kind of reasoning that can justify picking someone so average.}

13 Jan 2016 11:21:02
Vardy has to be in there as well EMS.

13 Jan 2016 11:29:06
Vardy was poor before August and I don't even remember Kante being there last season. Apologies if I'm wrong.

And Ed001, it's just my opinion mate. I thought Willian was good last season, and I think he's been great this season. I'm well aware he isn't the best player. On talent alone I'd have had Hazard and Silva on the wings but Mahrez and Willian have consistently worked hard and played well over the whole year.

{Ed001's Note - so now you think he is great? Ok whatever, I am not wasting time on this.}

13 Jan 2016 12:18:55
Assuming we are restricting this to the EPL, then surely it would be Leicester as the question was ' what would be your team of the year? ' and not individual based and would cover 2015 and not just last or this season. It does largely depend upon what you define success as.

Yours pedantically.

Marshy - the team of the year (whether UEFA, EPL, World Cup etc) is always the common name for a fantasy team of the highest performing player.

I would also have Kante over Drinkwater and Lukaku over over William with Sanchez considered a wide player.

13 Jan 2016 13:22:47
EMS I agree with you on Willian, he's scored important goals and unlike the rest of the team he carried form into this season. I would put De Gea over Lloris just for the amount of games he won the mancs with his performances. Or Bogdan, it's really a toss up between De Gea and Bogdan.

13 Jan 2016 15:21:27
Willian is a player i really like, and find it a bit weird you would label him as average, but i guess people see players differently. I know he doesn't score/ assist as much as many other offensive players, but he is also very much a two way player and works very hard for his team. I would take him on our right side without a doubt.

13 Jan 2016 17:26:43
ManahawkinRed, please tell me you are joking. I'm obviously a massive LFC fan but he's been shocking!

13 Jan 2016 21:15:09
Lallana doesn't get assists or score and works very hard, but gets slated. But these are the reasons why you praise Willian? Sorry, I'm confused.

Still Leicester.

Hi eds was wondering if I could pick your brains on our academy players on verge of first team squad and what our long term strategy for them is now klopp has arrived. It seems we have tried everything and messed a few of them around in recent years with badly organised loans and previous manager taking no interest. To list some who I think could have decent careers illori ward texeira Smith 21/ 22 rossitor brannigan Kent sinclair ojo Williams Wilson chiverella canons 18-20 and then you have some talented 18s following them. Klopp has come out and said we should keep our best kids and not loan them and although our loans have been haphazardly organised there is a danger that keeping them at the club will see them stagnate due to the level of games. They can't all break through together due to our already inflated squad and we will sign a few more in the summer no doubt. most of the players mentioned above are coming to the stage now where they need to move there careers on. I would love the opinion of both ed1 and ed2 on what you think should happen and any information you may have on the plan inglethorpe and klopp have going forward.

{Ed001's Note - we are going to work with smaller squads so that they get more chances.}

Haven't posted in a long time, but I read the site every day and just have a few things to say. I for one, really enjoy what Klopp is doing. As the eds and a number of posters have said, this season is about people trying to learn Klopp's style and there will be lots of ups and downs as well as injuries as he requires maximum fitness from all of his players and why shouldn't he.

They are professionals, nonetheless. They get paid lots of money to play. As for the Caulker signing, this can only mean one thing. Klopp is waiting for the summer to get his targets and that is a very smart move. We are not in a great financial situation where we can go just go buy integral players from different teams for top dollar with FFP. It's a depth move and I see no reason why people should be mad about it. Klopp knows what he is doing and we have to get behind him and the club as I believe he is the man to take us in the right direction.
