Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

13 Jan 2014 23:20:17
There he goes. BR has talked us up again! And every time he, or for that matter any manager, talks his team up, the team go belly up so 'SOD' and his law can have a laugh!

So quiet on the transfer front, just old worn out rumours making as much impact as and old drunk guy's farts while he's sleep. Sorry about the description, guys and girls.
Great win at Stoke, we score, score and score again. but new signings are needed. Coutinho looked tired as did some of the others. but, No news is good news. so let's see.
Keep the faith brothers and sisters. YNWA

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sounds like you are really keeping the faith!

Agree0 Disagree0

There's nothing wrong in a manager praising his team! Get a grip.

Here hoping the window doesn't close without us getting
A) Attacking midfielder = Wijnaldum or Rakitic
B) Winger = Salah or Gio Dos Santos

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Gio Dos Santos? What are you smoking?

Agree0 Disagree0

Lol agree with Mark, Dos Santos bombed in the premier league, would not be a good signing for us.

Imagine if this attacking team we currently have had henchoz and hyppia at the back. Hubba hubba. Tobiwan

Now that would be great! We'd win the league!

Sorry eds I read the article wrong, Rodgers went out in December to watch Draxler, I think he would be an amazing signing for us, could be the answer for when Stevie retires young as well perfect for FSG policy

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Would need to sell Suarez to pay for him of course. Not going to happen.}

Ed could you please stop using facts and logic to dispel obvious made up stories, remember its that time of year again when rumours become gospel and lies become truth.

Agree0 Disagree0

For me Draxler is THE top young talent in Germany and there would be so many teams in for him that Schalke could literally hold an auction, out of our range. i'd go for his team mate Meyer myself and hope he is :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Forgot to say, Rodgers went out in December to watch Salah, the only Schalke game he watched.

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 11:55:43
I am so sorry, but I feel draxler is so hugely overrated its embarassing, he is the German Shelvy who can't defend. Wait and see. The team which will spend that ludacris asking price will buying the most expensive Flop that is so hyped up its hilarious. Absoultly ridicolous, what has he done or achieved? NOTHING.

Agree0 Disagree0

Meyer looks promising but damn isn't he like 16/17 or something? I have no qualms with buying young talent but he has a long way to go and would probably cost a bit already, not sure there would be much value in signing Meyer.

As for Draxler? Doubt we have a chance, expensive and can literally choose where he goes - sadly i'd put money on him heading to Chelsea or City in future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Seano, you mean that you see him signing for Chelsea to sit on their bench for two years then get loaned out, sold for penny's and then bought again for a billion quid or so when he's flavour of the month again such is there transfer policy(if they have one lol!)

Agree0 Disagree0

Draxler looks like he'll be world class and will command a transfer fee in line with that. Chelsea's midfield is ageing and is going to need reenforcing (I know they are signing Matic) as Essien and Lampard are getting on and Obi Mikel isn't really CL standard (IMO). Draxler would be a good replacement for Lampard so I don't see why not - doubt he'll be consigned to the bench.

The only reason I mention City and Chelsea though is money - they're the only ones with the financial muscle to buy him. Arsenal could but don't think they'd pay the fee required for a younger player and Uniteds form means their desireability might take a significant knock. Either way I am sure that we, unfortunately, will not be in the running.

Eds fellow reds, just seen that psg have offered £35 million and a choice of 4 players for Luis Suarez . I take it they want a pair of his signed boots or they've missed £100 million off the offer .

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - This is why we don't discuss finances.}

35 mil and four player would be more like it

ed2 liverpoo announced 9 new tv deals today, how much revenue will this bring in?thanks

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Not significant amounts - it is not for showing live games.}

13 Jan 2014 19:24:02
Congratulations to Ronaldo but I can't stand him and his fans. Don't worry Hendo, this your Ballon D'or year mate! I know Syarez was banned for a while but why doesn't he even make the team. 45 in 49 games since the start of the 12 13 season is amazing in the Premier League!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because as much as a genius that he is he winds up a lot of opposition players and recent incidents have not endeared him to many. I think he is a superb player and even his attitude this season has been much improved but, unless he keeps up this ridiculous form, I find it difficult to imagine him winning it - he has made too many enemies.

M'Vila: by tomorrow, clubs (Napoli, Liverpool) will have new talks with Rubin Kazan to make a new bid. Player dreams for Premier League #LFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from elsewhere.}

But know confirmed interest from us that I can see or read anywhere?!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has an interest, but in a loan to buy with only a tiny amount proposed to be paid now.}

Where is elsewhere Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - PSG.}

I see, I didn't think we were interestd.

Rubin will surely want and need money up front, I'm sure PSG and Napoli will offer the asking price.

Agree0 Disagree0

Eds do you think that we are one of the clubs then that will be talking to him or his club tomorrow? Or is it more likely its Psg?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the situation.}

13 Jan 2014 18:41:27
The Echo is reporting that we have an interest in Georginio Wijnaldum of PSV, Real Betis winger Alvaro Vadillo and Porto midfielder Fernando. While they also say that we've lost out on M'Vila to Napoli and we are increasing our interest in Yarmolenko because of the greater interest in Salah from other clubs.
So Ed's, Reds or Macca purely because the Echo is one of the slightly more reliable papers for Liverpool rumours, which of these rumours in your opinion(s) has the tiniest shred of truth attached, basically what deals are possible/likely and which aren't.

I think that the winger we will sign will be English and a bit more proven than salah, he is well known to us and no need to scout. I would be happy if salah signed, but just can't see us doing business for the price mooted, expect Ince instead - there I said it. Ibe to go on loan - recon he is way better prospect than either of the above.

Best site around by a long way.

By the way, could the kind ed's please tell us fans who they think we will sign, if anyone.

Thanks again.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Could be right mate I here Damian duff might be up for grabs .

any idea when enrique, flanagan, agger and Sakho are back?
also how is samed yesil progressing? I remember he had loads of potential, is he getting close to a first team squad place

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Enrique is a week to two weeks, flano a week sakho will be fit for our next game agger 3 weeks

Agree0 Disagree0

Yesil got a bad injury again and could be out for another 6-7 months. He was being mooted for a move to Turkey for 2m ish I heard before the injury.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yesil has had horrendous luck with injuries - has looked promising but that's the second bad one in 18 months, might be one of those unfortunate players who never reaches his potential due to injury, a pity.

Ins:

Montoya/Moreno
Fernando/M'Villa
Salah
Tello (Loan, maybe Loan-to-buy)

= Good transfer window

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Really a waste of money man. I would be happy with a left/right back, if available for the right price. I could understand maybe adding a winger but we really don't need one as it looks like coutinho could be headed for a bench role with Sturridge back. I love coutinho but Sterling is playing too well to bench right now.

All these signings you're mentioning are just adding to the wage bill. Realistically, who would you replace in our starting 11. Now; if we finish this season top 4 and need a much deeper squad for champions league, then I could understand buying a lot.

Agree0 Disagree0

It's not about a starting 11, it's about building a good squad.
Our squad looks better than what it actually is because of no European football.
I think most people would agree, Rightback, DefensiveMid and Winger are the positions that need improving/adding quality depth.

Agree0 Disagree0

I can understand the right back left back enquiries. But try to remember we have a lot of young guys coming up. Especially suso returning next year. Who is going to be first team ready. We have Henderson Gerrard Lucas Allen that can all play that holding role if need be. I can understand adding one winger. Preferably salah. Definitely don't need two

Agree0 Disagree0

I disagree, apart from your point on the wingers, I'd be happy with either of them.
Lucas needs proper competition and Johnson isn't that good anymore (Kelly should be a cb and Flanno is not quite ready, I do like Flanno though, needs 1or2 more seasons before being ready for a regular place in first team.)
Nice debate though haha

Agree0 Disagree0

We need fullbacks. Badly.

The two who started last Saturday would struggle to make the bench at many top teams.

Agree0 Disagree0

But Tiger the white Cafu will be fit in a week, 1 fullback for now as centre of midfield and wing position still needs addressing.

eds,,, am I on the right site? is this for supporters or slaughterers? I know its a banter forum but blimey i'm sure the outcome of yesterdays game reads 5-3 in our favour!
another hugely entertaining game involving our ever improving team of highly talented players still to be fully assembled in the eyes of a young manager who is showing great faith in the current squad of players and installing them with the knowhow to be able to play different areas of the pitch with interchanging formations during the game dependent on the circumstances they are faced with. BRILLIANT.
our attacking play this season has at times been nothing short of sensational.
the pace the game is now played at means injuries are more prevalent than ever before and will play a huge part in where the trophies end up when the season has finished. lady luck (esmerelda) also as we well know had deserted us for a while but put in a timely appearance for us yesterday. i, ve labled her with the formentioned name as she has been around since time began.and she can also play in any position!
daniel sturridge deserves a special mention,, returning from injury and coming into a game with that intensity to play like he did is no mean feat, great goal, the assist of the season so far and with the right pass played on a couple of other occasions may well have bagged a hat trick.
all in all difficult opponents, tricky conditions resulted in 3 more points to our seasons tally.
earlier in the day I watched my 14 year old son put in a man of the match display yet still finish on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline despite being 1-0 up with just 2 mins of normal time left to play and his resulting demeanor was only restored back to his usual happy self after witnissing his heroes in action latter in the day and he went to bed looking like he had been breast feed on Dr Pepper.

P.s where do you get your information from?

{Ed002's Note - I am travelling Josh - remind me at the end of the week when I will be back in England.}

Can't believe mignolet is getting some stick, having a different set of centre backs in front of him every week can't be helping. He's still a very young keeper who has done little wrong this season. He had massive boots to fill and he's filled them. Reina has not been missed. He will only get better in time and with more experience under his belt, not to mention a more stable defence.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Agreed Mikey. Mignolet is the very least of our concerns. There was a lot made of him letting in Stoke's third goal--fair enough, it was not his best moment--but, what people have to remember (an given equal weight to) was that he made a couple of fantastic saves earlier on. at a time when the game was still very much in the balance.

The reality is Stoke was never always going to be a 'win ugly' scenario. LFC did it and they and Mignolet deserve full praise for coming through.

Sure, Mignolet hass had a couple of moments (Man City and Chelsea most notably) but, overall, he has been a solid, long-term addition to the club.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mignolet is a very good shot stopper but he does not command his area he seems to bottle it in big matches yesterday he made several great saves but he did not look confident he punched one cross in the second half instead of catching the ball the ball went out to a stoke player and by doing things like he does not make the defenders confident in him or themselves sorry fellow reds but the jury is still out for me he needs to improve his over all game for me I have to hold my breath when ever a cross is put in against us really don't want to have to be like that reds and neither do you follow LFC fans

Agree0 Disagree0

I have to agree with Albeydered. He has to work on his organisation, and his ability under crosses is at best average. He seems to suffer from nerves when he has time to think. I believe it is a worry as a back four also has to be confident in their keeper for crosses etc. they are both unsettling each other. Reina at this moment I feel is a better keeper but Mignolet offers good prospect for the future. He still needs to convince me he is the keeper to take us forward.

Agree0 Disagree0

Time will tell whether he will be the long-term number 1.

He has the potential. But he has a lot to learn.

There are weaknesses to eradicate e.g. getting down quickly to a low shot (Chelsea, Stoke goals); flapping at crosses.

And then there is the mental element. Great keepers tend to be domineering alpha males - able to organize a defense and scare people.

Mignolet may just be too nice.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - and he needs to learn to use his feet. Not just for clearing the ball, but it is idiocy to try and get down to a low shot that is inches from his foot. It is a very major weakness in his game that good opposing coaches will pick up on and instruct their players to aim at.}

I also saw him in ChilliBanana on Lark lane a few weeks ago with his family and he split the bill! He needs to be tighter on the pitch and a bit more generous off it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Does anybody know how Coady is getting on with his loan at Sheffield United?
I saw this as a break through season for him but I haven't heard much about him in the last 6 months and that is playing in League 1.
I really wanted him to make the grade.

Hey eds, hope you enjoyed the festive season. Was wondering if there has been any movement in regard to Yann M'Vila? I've heard contradicting rumours saying he's signed for Napoli, I think it was a reporter for some magazine in Italy tweeted that he's currently in contract negotiations with Rafa? I've also heard he's signed for Liverpool, whereas Rogers has said he's contacted Yann's agent and that's all? I've also heard that Rubin Kazan are looking for a bidding war between us an Napoli? Have you heard anything? Also, have we decided not to mach Basel's value estimation of Salah? And Rakatic, anything on him? And I've been hearing things about Georginio Wijnaldum that rumour got any legs?
Thanks in advance,
Tobes.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool won't be getting in to any bidding wars. Nothing has happened with M'Vila. The rest you will find in the search engine.}

13 Jan 2014 15:34:53
lot of Johnson bashing lately, and maybe he hasn't done anything particularly exciting, but the truth is we still miss him when he is absent and I always look forward to his return.

He is assured on the ball in tight spots and usually retains possession, and one thing in particular - I don't think i've ever seen him miscontrol one of Gerrard's raking passes which most RBs would struggle with.
Its things like this which go under appreciated but really help us to relieve the pressure without losing the ball.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cannot agree with you Joe. I was a big fan of Johnson but, this season he has looked absolutely horrible. In fact, I have the exact opposite view: he has been guilty of too many careless give aways this season--a sure sign he has lost interest. I don't think anyone can deny he still has the ability but, for whatever reason, he is not in form.

Not sure what happened to those confident, skillful runs down the right flank to see him cut in and either take a nice curling shot on goal with a real chance or an insightful cross in. Would be nice if it returned because we could sure use him on top of his game for the 2nd half.

Agree0 Disagree0

Joe have you watched Johnson lately he is more dangerous than the opposition forwards his passing has been awful sorry Joe but he is not playing like a international footballer he needs to pick up his game a quickly before he is dropped

Agree0 Disagree0

Joe, I think you need to go to specsavers.Johnson for much of last season and for all of this season has been a total and utter disgrace and have said it many many times, he should not be allowed to wear the jersey again

alan50

Agree0 Disagree0

Have always been a big fan of Johnson but he is starting to look a liability. He is defensively not good enough to play as the right back in a 433 formation as gets exposed too much (as compared with a 442 when he has someone in front of him). This was very apparent at the weekend when both full backs looked defensively frail. I think Wisdom is his natural replacement and will come into the team in the summer.
We desperately need Enrique back on the left as we completely looked lost for options every time Cisshoko got the ball. That was the only poor point on an otherwise great performance (2 of the 3 goals came from the right side)

Anyone knows BR's view on Tiago Illori, Luis Alberto and J. Ibe' development?

It seems rather strange that with the number of injuries so far and the philosophy of acquiring young talents, these 3 almost never played so far the season. Not even on those games that are closed out by the 70th minute with a 3 or 4 goal lead.

BR tends to do very few substitutions during matches (very few times used 3 subs), and I get that this helps to build a solid team. But shouldn't these young players help to offload some minutes from the 1st team players? Last campaign Sterling was burned out by mid season and he is just a kid.

Illori played 1 FA game I think, Jordan Ibe the same and Luis Alberto had just a little bit more action. Any thoughts, insights or opinions?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

My understanding is that Illori will be going on loan to Spain. The lad needs to play games.

GJ gets similar treatment to Lucas on these pages in that there are complaints but when he goes on a lengthy lay off we always see posts about how much better we play with him in the XI.

Not everyone is razzle dazzle in a highly tactical game. If you need constant entertainment please see the figure skating chimps on YouTube who skate to the Rocky theme song and repeat as necessary.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - sorry but that is not true, we don't play better with him in the XI, normally the posts are complaining about him waltzing back in and doing nothing to deserve his place.}

14 Jan 2014 12:35:21
Respect ed. True or not, we still see fans moan when certain players are out and when in.

Who has time for moaning when a reasonable solution is a better use of everyone's time?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the reasonable solution would be to play someone else there, but that doesn't seem to have occurred to any of our recent managers!}

13 Jan 2014 15:10:11
Thats 6 wins in the last 8 (League games), which included 4 tough away games of Spurs, Stoke, City and Chelsea. I would have taken that at the start of december as I was wary of all the away games and didn't expect much out of them.
You could even argue we deserved something out of both the defeats but I am still happy.
We now have 2 home league games to really set ourselves up for a strong push in the second half of the season.
Its just a shame that this season is so competitive because with a run of form like ours in any other season and we would have pulled away from the majority of teams, at least the pack chasing top four.
I am just made up for Rogers and the team because he has took some abuse and made some mistakes but he hasn't deterred from his beliefs and long term strategy for the club, and it seems to be paying off.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Clearly Brendo does not agreed.}

13 Jan 2014 12:35:18
Goodday ed, hope you are well.

When people moan about Glen Johnson's performances and say we have to sell him in the summer etc. You always reply the summer is a long way off etc. Is that you subtlety implying that he might go already in January? And if the club are in talks with arsenal to sell him are we planning on replacing him or let Flanagan and Kelly fight it out? (Which I don't mind at all because Kelly must be getting closer to the required fitness levels)

Sorry for another question, do you know if any clubs are watching Andrea Bertolacci?

Thankyou very much!

hi all- wondering is it possible to recall a loan player for January window?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2014 14:52:47
At the being of the window BR was on about the lack of depth to the squad OK the Jan window is not all was the best time to improve this but with a great chance of making the top 4 this could be the best chance of breaking back into the cl spots .

TIME TO TAKE THE CHANCE AND BACK BR WITH THE CASH TO BRING IN 2-3 PLAYERS LEFTBACK, HOLDING MIDIFELDER AND A WINGER/FORWARD

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Trouble is Players values are a lot higher in January, but having said that we are theoretically fighting for title as well as CL spots, so whilst I'm against paying over the odds for players if we can get a couple in that will to the quality of 1st team and help the push then so be it. CL is a must to keep Suarez and attract top quality players

Agree0 Disagree0

1 or 2 Maximum. We don't have an endless pot of money and whilst we don't have any European football there is no need for a massive squad. We should always look to improve but, as Mercury says, values are higher in January - we should be cautious not gung-ho.

Somewhere in the middle of the Stoke game, there was an enjoyable bit goalmouth mud wrestling between Ryan Shawcross and Dinsdale "Shirt-Puller" McSkrtel. Although I am fully convinced that the best way to mark Ryan Shawcross is to rip off his shirt and push his face into the mud, I would not be surprised if a referee took a different view. So I ask you, the loyal, knowledgeable, and sometimes menacing fans of Liverpool Football Club, when will Mr. McSkrtel's shirt pulling be rewarded with a penalty kick? I am putting my money on the next match, and will continue to bet on the next match until it finally happens.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Go watch it, you will see it's 6 of 1 etc, Shwcross then just lays ontop of skrtel .Nice trolling though

Agree0 Disagree0

It looked to me like an in game show of solidarity towards thomas hitzlsperger

Agree0 Disagree0

I totally agree with the 6 of 1 bit, but I'm still betting on the next match.

Agree0 Disagree0

Honestly thought the incident earlier with Skrtel holding Crouch's jersey was going to get called a penalty. Crouch was in a dangerous position on the 6 and just needed to redirect and flick the header on. Of course he can't jump if Skrtel is holding him down. I thought it a clear penalty. If it was the other way around we'd be howling.

It's a dangerous game he's playing and it's only a matter of time before the officials start catching on and calling him on it. I don't understand why he can't legally go toe to toe with the opposition, unless he's incapable.

Agree0 Disagree0

It will happen at old Trafford, guaranteed

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Jan 2014 12:07:25
Strange how tiresome johns always seem to come up in conversation in tandem with shirt pulling and well taken kicks. I just had a similar conversation with notorious drag queen B.J. Sparkles (aka Ed069) where the ball was absolutely drilled deep from the kick after a shirt was ripped right off.

*If there is an Ed069, I'll take that back if there's any offense taken.

Agree0 Disagree0

To be fair every time Crouch jumped he grabbed the back of Liverpool players shirt and held it down - all players take the mick and if the referee's do decide to start clamping down on it Skrtel won't be the only player getting penalised.

Agree0 Disagree0

P.s. would add that Skrtel's gets a little more attention because of the complete lack of subtlety and tact when doing it - but he is not alone, watch a corner from any given Premier League game and you will see the same thing.

Hi Eds,
I remember some time ago now, one of you guys sort of explaining the ridiculous contract Rafa gave Glen Johnson. I seem to remember it having a clause that basically states if fit, he can't be dropped or something? Can you refresh please because it seems to me the guy has a serious attitude problem which shows in his work rate on the field. If he knows he's going to play every week and can't be dropped, it gives him no desire to work for his place.
Is the club in a better position now to deal with it contractually or are we stuck with the lazy bar steward?
JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - as far as I am aware, the clauses were removed when he signed a new contract.}

Cheers Ed. BR needs to sort him out then because his work rate and effort are shocking. He's the most frustrating player I've ever watched, bags of talent but lacking desire.
JFT96

Agree0 Disagree0

I used to defend Johnson as he was very dangerous going forward and gave us good options, however he seems to be getting less and less effective in the final third and with his defensive attributes as bad as ever I would now sell and look to buy. Possibly a defender who could play either side would be the best option

Agree0 Disagree0

I could not imagine myself saying it at the start of the season but: when is Flanno back?
He was our most consistent full back until he got injured.
Someone who would fight for the club but with a lot of talent.
I woudln't mind him on one side of the defence and Kelly on the other, they can't be much worse than the current full backs despite their inexperience.

Agree0 Disagree0

Not sure I would sell Johnson Chris, although I agree he's really starting to look past it. I would rather we kept him and started to phase in one of our other promising right backs. We wouldn't get much of a transfer fee for him anyway and if we let him go we would lose the one attribute Johnson brings to right back that Kelly etc don't, experience.

Agree0 Disagree0

De Sciglio would be good, although I doubt it could ever happen

Hi Ed's and reds,
Just out of interest, who do you think will be the next Scouser who will be a regular first team player, like Gerrard and Carragher was, for Liverpool? I've heard a lot of people say it is important to have the Liverpool born players in the team, so do you think it is important to have a Scouser in the team?
Cheers

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - Rossiter.}

Hope it is rossiter. Weve seen to many who havnt made the grade and sadly were sold on. E.g spearing, morgan and even coady if he comes back of his loan.

Whilst I cannot argue with Ed as his knowledge of our youth players is second to none I would suggest that, if Flannagan maintains his excellent form when returning from injury, that he might claim a regular first team berth. Do people think he is good enough to do that? Or that his form is merely a temporary purple patch which cannot be maintained?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I think it will take him a while, whereas Rossiter will grab one soon.}

Sounds like Rossiter is rated very highly. Do you think he will be on the periphery of the first team next season Ed?

I think Liverpool are getting to a stage where the team or squad doesn't 'pick itself.' With more competition in every position, this is nothing but good, and possibly could allow to cater for gerrards dip in form! I think as we've come to expect so much of him, we feel let down by a couple bad performances, but I'm sure he still has plenty more to offer!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Nah man that isn't the case. Fans are realists, we know Gerrard is 34 and we know he doesn't have the stamina to run around full belt for the full 90 minutes. His form has dipped which doesn't mean he has no value to our squad but means that he needs to be managed properly and used wisely. His influence wanes badly toward the end of games now and I think full 90 minute games should be reduced. Gerrard has his moments undoubtedly but they more infrequent than they used to to be, it makes sense to start building a team that he isn't the centre of.

I have every faith in FSG and BR but Rodgers had made further comments now about no transfers available at this time and we will see what happens. Everyone else seams to be getting closer and yet everything has gone very quiet with us.

On another note, someone posted yesterday about BR's security being ''high'' yesterday. Ed's?

Ye stoke fans are bad I remember about 10 years ago I went there to watch them play Tranmere Rogers as Tranmere are my second team anyway the point was we were locked in the ground after the game due to stock fans trying to get through the big gates they let us out of as the stoke fans just wanted to fight we had police on horses trying to stop them getting in so it wouldn't surprise me

Would be nice to get a proper attacking RB in the summer someone like rafina who really suits our style of play but until then I'd give flano a chance to see if he actually has what it takes.

Haven't be on for a while, but just a few observations. We seem to be letting in a few goals . Just a few but we are scoring loads. Do you not think that these things aren't connected . Of course they are, we along with city. , compare the costs of the squads. , are the most exciting teams in the league. Enjoy you miserable gits. , yes we could be tighter at the back. We haven't had a settled back 4 all season, we need to add to the squad but it's not major surgery that's needed its a tweak. Hopefully are loan players comeback and progress into 1st team.
Finally. I don't get Moses playing before Ibe etc. , he's not improving and he doesn't look like he wants to earn a contract with us so why give more opportunitys when he's not bothered.

Hello Reds

great win yesterday - we had to win!
Studge clearly looks awesome still.
My thought it that we are lacking at RB and LB, I think this needs to be addressed in this window, i'd be happy with bertrand a LB. Remember studge didn't get a chance at chelsea.

I do think we have a cracking player in sterling he has really come on this season - a front three of him studge and suarez is scary.

coutinho did look lazy yesterday in all honesty.

What do you think eds with regards to incoming payers

Really don't get how people are slating Mignolet? His only real mistakes have came yesterday and city away, costing us a total of 2 points (city game we would have drew but won yesterday regardless). He's already won us at least 5 points with his penalty save v stoke, his saves away at Villa and his performance in the derby. Like BR says a decent keeper can you win you 10 points extra over the course of the season and as far as in concerned Mignolet seems to be doing just that. Fans have such short memories at times!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2014 12:56:08
In my opinion, Mingolet is the best shot stopper in the Premier League, just ahead of Begovic. However, Mingolet is very indecisive when it comes to high balls into the box and he needs to work on his drop kicking, although that's not crucial in our system (also I may just have been spoiled by reina for too long). He is good enough with the ball at his feet, has exceptional handling (I can't remember him ever dropping a shot into his net even before he came to us) and he is very fast off his line making him a formidable opponent in 1-on-1 sitautions. What I would most like to see him improve though is the utilisation of his feet when stopping low shots. De Gea and Lloris are the best keepers in the league at this, but Mingolet tries too hard to get down to them instead of just getting a solid leg behind it. I think he has things he could work on, but he is also a very good keeper. He is far better than Reina on current form so all this "bring back Pepe" rubbish is starting to annoy me. The only keeper in the league better than Migs as a pure goalkeeper (i.e. keepnig the ball out of his net) is Begovic, but he has injury problems and no ability with the ball at his feet. I think Mingolet is good at positioning himself as well though from set pieces (Corners, Freekicks and even penalties where he makes himself look very big). I'm sure he and the coaches are aware of where he needs to improve, and yes he has conceded a couple of soft goals against City and Stoke but the City one was very unlucky and the Stoke one was in horrendous conditions. That Stadium is reportedly very open to the elements, particularly wind. Had Mingolet used his left foot to stop Walters shot rather than trying to throw himself down, he'd have stopped it. I once got told by a striker coach to always hit my shots and headers hard and low because a goalkeeper can only dive downwards as fast as gravity will let him. With perfect pitches and such fast moving footballs nowdays, a goalkeepers ability to use his feet to stop shots is becoming increasingly important as the ball can fiz along the floor at easily 80mph from the likes of Lampard, Van Persie etc.

Just lay off Mingolet for a little bit, let him settle, and let the coaches do their job. I'd love to have our old goalkeeper coach back though. Xavi Valero I think his name was. By all accounts he was the best coach most players had ever worked with (particularly Reina, although Torres actually credited his goal scoring form to Valero due to his ability to read oppostion keepers and spot their weaknesses).

Agree0 Disagree0

The third stoke goal wasn't really his fault. he was clearly blocked by toure and walters did well to get his shot on target.

Agree0 Disagree0

Also let's not forget that the two center halves have been chopped and changed so much its ridiculously had for him to build his own partnership

Agree0 Disagree0

It's the deep crosses that worry me, he peddles back far too much.I think he takes up the wrong positions at times and is too eager to come out.
I feel he needs a stronger central defender in there who will marshall the box, while he stays on his line. Hypia used to do this with Dudek.

It's hard for a keeper to understand the ball playing aspect, I don't think he's helped at times by the indecisiveness at the back on whether to pass to him or not, skrtel agger toure etc all dilly dally too much on the ball, either pass it to migs off the bat or hoof it up. They take and extra few seconds that cut down the time migs has to think by a few seconds

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think mignolet was the right keeper to be chosen in the summer, he is very sloppy with the ball at his feet struggles to get down to shots close to his body eg walters and eto. he is very good at shot stopping when he has to extend his frame, his flapping at crosses is starting to worru me also, he needs to be more commanding off his line

Regarding the penalty yesterday, yes it was soft but it was still a penalty.

When a defender makes a challenge like that, he is risking a penalty all day long.

A challenge from slightly behind across the attackers leg is bad defending technique, Wilson was panicked because of his bad pass which led to the chance.

Its the kind of tackle attackers get pulled up for all the time on full backs when they press them.

On our defence, I think we have to accept we will always conceede goals now, gone are they days of a rigid Rafa like formation.

Full backs are expected to push on, centre halves split, midfield runners. When attacks break down we have expect to the opposition to have a chance, but when we get it right we create lots of chances ourselves and for me the most part its worked.

I think our good is second only to City. I think most people would agree we would prefer 5-3 wins over a ground out 1-0.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Jan 2014 12:29:56
I completely agree mate. Anywhere else on the pitch that is a body check. What we need to consider is that Wilson probably weighs close to 200 pounds and Sterling closer to 140 pounds. Sterling was running at pace and Wilson completely crossed his left leg at thigh level. Trust me, being very quick myself (100m in 10.8seconds) and only weighing 150 pounds, the slightest touch can bring you down from a much larger player especially when you a sprinting. It was not a dive, and it wasn't even going down easily in my opinion. I think the only reason people are talking about this is because Mark Hughes is a bad loser and decided to attack Sterling as his scapegoat. It wasn't even hand ball. For a start it was blasted at him from about 4 yards and if you look closely it hit his chest and bounced on to the underside of his upper arm. It was a ball to hand, but to be fair its one of those that would annoy you if it went against your team. Even if you want to be a biased Stoke fan and say it was hand ball and a dive (which it wasn't either), let's just call it Karma as Robert Huth should have been prosecuted for GBH last season when he stamped on Luis' chest, but didn't even get a booking.

YNWAdam

Agree0 Disagree0

There is no doubt it was a pen. Just look at the angle of Sterling's body before he got touched. He was already leaning over. So with the speed he was going and the contact he got around his hip he was knocked over.A penalty all day long.

Agree0 Disagree0

There was contact with Sterling, so in todays game that means a penalty. Personally though, I don't feel he was impeded by that much contact nor do I believe he couldn't have stayed on his feet, so IMO it shouldn't have been a penalty. If it was the other way around I would feel very much aggrieved. Football is a contact sport so contact shouldn't automatically mean a freekick. Take a header, both players jump into each other and only one usually gets a touch on the ball, doesn't mean the player who didn't touch the ball committed a foul. Unfortunately though freekicks and penalties are given for such challenges.
Happy with much Sterling is improving though, getting better every game.

People stressing over the 3 goals against us yesterday. Look at the goals. Crouch will cause any central defence problems with good service. Charly Adams got a bit of luck with how the ball fell to him, and that was a great strike that would of beaten anyone. The third was bad goal keeping. He should of made that save no excuse. Not realy that much of an issue if you brake it down just bad luck, which mattered little anyway as we got 5. Migolet is our week link. Great shot stopper but way to many clumsy mistakes. Bring back Pep.

Mignolet is twice the keeper Reina ever was or will be and he is 6 years younger so with plenty of time to show it and improve. Absolute nonsense, and queit frankly embarrassing to even talk about reina who is injured half of a season anyway and actually haven't played for 2 months. I was at the game last night and it was a horrible wind and rain and his view was totally blocked by Toure. I swear none of this embarrassing "views and opinions are even talked about in the stands, at least not where I have been. We have NEVER BEATEN STOKE away from home, the last time was 1984, we have managed league titles and CL glory, but we never beat stoke away in the PL. Put in perspective it was a huge huge 3 points and am 100% sure all the whining and bitching of the Liverpool 'faithful' will mean nothing to the players and the coaching staff as we sang to them after the game and specially BR and Suarez.

Agree0 Disagree0

If that's your premise for all mistakes made then let's buy a whole new team, because all of them have been fallible this year at one time or another.

He's the best keeper we've had in recent years, and could go on to be one if not the best we've had. Don't you remember reina at he beginning? Good shot stopper, but couldn't hold his breath. last two seasons he was very poor because he wanted to go to Spain.

We had our second choice defence out today (with Skrtel and Johnson being the two arguably in the first team picture, but also the two at fault for every goal). Cissokho did nothing wrong, neither did Toure. However Johnson got ripped to shreds by Stokes second choice left winger (two of their goals came from crosses from Arnautovic). Johnson was awful. Unfortunately, so was Skrtel. He dropped too deep allowing Crouch and Walters into the box too often and for Charlie Adams goal not only did he back off but he then let the shot through his legs. Yes, Stokes third goal was soft, but Walters would not have had that ball had Johnson done his job. A keeper is only as good as the players in front of him. Gerrard actually played okay in his role although his slip didn't help with their second. He just doesn't snuff out the danger though. Had Lucas been in Gerrards role, I guarantee Adam wouldn't have scored his goal and the attacks for the other goals may have been prevented but Gerrard was not awful at all. He does slow the play down and concede possession too much for me and I'd rather see him as an impact sub still. The game was full of mistakes from both sides, last season they beat us 3-1 in this fixture. They also beat Chelsea 3-2 this season. Conceding three at the Britannia is not unheard of, however scoring 5 is! Before yesterday they had conceded 7 goals in 10 games at home despite having played City, Chelsea and Everton there! let's just enjoy the result and look forward to the return of Sakho next week.

YNWAdam

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Haha.I thought everyone wanted johnson back when he was injured now you want him gone again.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Jan 2014 13:28:18
When Johnson was out, we missed him because Kelly and Flanagan were both not fit to play. So we had to play centre backs at right back (Toure and Wisdom). In fact it was worse than that because we were playing with wing backs at the time so Toure and Wisdom were even further out of position. We didn't miss Johnson because he's good, we missed him because we had no other right backs!
As for your Lucas comment, it is laughable that you think Gerrard performed the role better. We conceded 3 goals in case you weren't watching. All of them because we were sat so deep. Why were we sat so deep? Because of Gerrard and Skrtels inability to press high up the pitch. Crouch can't score a header from 25 yards. Just accept the fact that Gerrard is not who he used to be. He was famed for his driving performances and his incredible engine coupled with his ability to be creative but still tough in the tackle. He has never been composed or great at setting the tempo and he has certainly never been positionally sound, hence why he always got pushed forward into more attacking roles. He needs to reduce his pitch time, not change his style.

Any fool can see we are weaker when he starts, but he could be the best impact sub in the league. Rodgers is just trying to make him a position because he is scared of the backlash from the fans if he dropped him.

Mark Hughes mentioned in his press conference the penalty incident and he said that the fact that the 3000 travelling supporters reacted when Sterling went down could have influenced the ref.

We all know how important the fans can be and we should all give a big shout to the fans who travelled to Stoke. Miserable weather and a difficult place to go but it was sure worth the effort that they made.

You all keep talking about 'where we are' and
giving opinions on who we need - emphasis seems
to be on left back and a winger.
But there are two glaringly obvious problems which do not get aired enough.
Johnson is a liability - he needs to go asap.
Gerrard is no longer good enough, unless coming
off the bench late in the game. It is not sacrilege to state that someone has aged and lost power and focus.
Been with the club a long time/legend/done wonders for LFC for years - all true, but irrelevant.
Simple question and please answer honestly - do we play better when Gerrard ia IN the team or when he is NOT?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Completely agree. A lot of the posters here seem to think Stevie is exempt from any criticism for all he has done for us. He is a legend at the club, no doubt.

But I don't feel he has the legs to last the whole game any more, and I think he would be more effective as an impact sub. Even Ed001 said the same thing.

Johnson seems to have gotten lazy and lost all of the attacking penetration that justified his defensive vulnerabilities.

Skrtel is still a worry.

The front three that finished yesterday's game are a great bunch though.

Raheem has bought his game on leaps and bounds since we lost to hull.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree with the comments on Johnson he is constantly at fault for goals but that is why there is interest in Montoya as the Eds have explained. As for Gerrard he was for me man of the match yesterday constantly winning tackles playing fantastic balls left right and centre

Agree0 Disagree0

As much of a legend as Gerrard is and as much as I respect and honor his service to the club he is now starting to slow down. I think he tries too many eye of the needle passes which may come off or not cause as many problems when played further forward but playing the pivot position he needs to keep it simple, recycle the play and snuff out attacks. Lucas is absolutely brilliant at that. He plays an unspectacular game spectacularly. I still thing Gerrard has a big part to play and I feel he could be deadly if brought on in the 60th - 70th minute and aloud to go full out. As it stands I'd much rather see a midfield of Lucas in the pivot, hendo and Allen in the cm positions.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I thing it was money related as he appeared to be "making it rain" if you will. He hit a 1-1000 shot on us but didn't do much else. Crouch earned a couple bonus points yesterday by not celebrating his goal. Good man that crouch

Excellent technique, footballing intelligence. If he had a little more pace, he would have been a tremendous player, imo

Crouch was a quality player, technically superb with much more to his game than height. First of all, great win. Some fantastic goals, and I particularly enjoyed Sturridges finish.
Penalty.
Yes, it was soft. But, Wilson challenges him just as he's shifted his body weight to cut in slightly. I think you see them given and frankly, he got some of the man and none of the ball.
Defending.
Now this worries me. Those of you who can pause, check out the position of our defenders as the ball comes in for the first goal.
There are 4 stoke men FREE in our box. One completely free on the far side, 1 on the near side, 1 more in the middle with Crouch actually being the best marked player in the area at that time. Scary stuff.
That ball doesn't even need to go to Crouch. Any man gets the ball and they are at least getting a shot on target. We need to close up the gaps.
Mignolet.
For me, his shot stoppings been incredible this season, he is prone to lapses in concentration though.
Hopefully this is something we'll be able to coach out of him, but he should have done better with Negredos shot, Eto's and Walters last night.
I'm not getting on the guys case, he has my full support. He just needs to cut the silly mistakes out and he'll be fine.

he knew he wasn't going to get much in there and looked out for a trailing leg or push . no dive, no simulation, just clever work. it was a penalty because one can't argue it was a foul anywhere on the pitch, however one could argue sterling was going no where with the ball. so a harsh one, but such are the rules really.

LFC to make some moves, Obviously we need a Winger, LB, and some nice youth. Well I think we got Salah, but if he says no, then BR going after both Montoya and Tello from Barca. Also I see us going in for Hughes, and Alli for youth prospects for the coming years, as both have impressed BR.
Also I was told the name of a player we are going to go after, but I cannot for life of me spell his name, it is really long, he plays in Serie A. I think even without Tello, we still go after Montoya. Chelsea will not sell Bertrand to LFC. Other LB ideas?

Just a quick note, and I really hope I'm wrong but I just don't see Mignoler as a future Liverpool keeper. He has failed to stop a few tame shots now which has cost us 2 or 3 goals and this adds up to points determining whether we'll get into the top 4 at the end of the season with things being so tight at the moment. But I think Mignolet's main problem is that he flaps at EVERY cross, punching poorly instead of taking a catch that other keepers would think routine, for a big lad he's far from commanding, this flapping allows the opposition to regain possession and especially away from home - like against Stoke last night we are penned in being bombarded with more balls in? I know we won't change him but what do you think?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I feel that although he has been in a bit of poor form since the man city game that he still hasn't been terrible. I do agree that he needs to be more commanding and stop flapping at the ball, maybe try to catch a few more crosses which come into the box to relieve pressure. Whilst being to blame for the 3rd goal last night he still pulled off some good saves throughout the game.

Now I know the memory of a football fan is often very short term but let's not forget how many points he won us in the first half of the season with the penalty save against stoke and great saves against united and villa when holding on to 1-0 leads. I think that if he can somehow get back to the form shown in the first few months of the season it could be a big factor in helping us get top 4

Agree0 Disagree0

Migs is a great shot stopper. That much can't be argued. He's made some great saves throughout the year. One thing I've never been convinced of is his ability on the ball. Everytime it's passed back to him I cringe. Could be we've been spoilt by pepe whose the best ball playing keeper here is. That being said I don't know if it's the pressure of being LFC's #1 that's getting to him or his poor form recently but his confidence looks paper thin at the moment. That high he was riding from that huge penalty save on opening day seems to have passed and he's now in a crucial moment In his LFC career. He'll either raise his game or continue to crumble. Here's hoping he turns it back on cause until he's no longer with us I'll support him! YNWA

Well done Rodgers and well done team.
The defence managed to concede 3 goals against stoke. Not ideal, but then so did Chelsea.
The difference is we beat Stoke and Chelsea lost. Ok the defence had an off game and perhaps they haven't had a good season but you win as a team and you lose as a team. The strikers have had poor games this season too.
Stay positive, top 4 and still in FA cup mid January.
It's better than Man Utd.

Correction it's Villa next week for you which should make it all the worse if they come home with all three points.

Well done boys. An entertaining game for the neutral but how shocking were Stoke for most of the first half? They gifted you the first two goals and looked toothless coming forward. But then again your defence was once again woeful. Both your full backs were caught for pace and Skrtel was shirt holding/pulling at every opportunity as he has all season. Two good late first half goals exposed your frailty at the back. The penalty was a joke second half. Sterling clearly handled the ball when put through which was missed by the ref and then went down far too easily under an innocuous challenge. A disgraceful decision which a cheat has prospered from.
Never mind you've got Chelsea next week which should take you back down again.

How was it a cheat? He felt contact which there was and went down. Read this sits it was soft but then again we've had some awful decisions which cost is crucial points against Chelsea and man c which would mean we'd be well above you right now. It's just funny how every time you come on here we win again! Can't wait till you come to the fortress and we demolish you :)

Your posts on this site always have the tone of a comic book villain, "you may have gotten away with it this time batman, but i'll have the last laugh"

Seriously you seem to have an obsession with our club so much so that I feel your allegiance lies more for the demise of Liverpool than with everton.

Also we have aston villa next week not that it matters who we play now that we have suarez and sturridge back together again. Well I wish you all the luck in the second half of the season and hope you get all the use out of your loans before they leave you and you're are back to "terrorizing" defences with the midfield maestro that is Steven Naismith.

Great win! I have to admit I was a bit frustrated at half time. But credit to the team, it was great response in the second half. The SAS will of course get most of the highlights but I have to day I've been really impressed with Sterling lately! He's a constant threat and helps out in defending too. Great team performance, very important 3 points. Now bring on Villa!

Superb win today. SAS, what a combination. Delighted to see Daniel back, he was truely missed. Sterling is also getting better and better. However our defence is a mess nowadays and Mignolet should be more concentrated on his line. His errors has cost us a lot this season.

Hello eds,

Two questions on the situation with Glen Johnson. Since he doesn't want to take the pay cut, the club will be willing to listen to offers in the summer. Where do you see the offers coming from? Also, would the club be willing to sell to any top 5 PL team?

Cheers

{Ed002's Note - The summer is a long way off - let's get through January.}

If he does move on in the Summer then I can't see a top 5 club wanting him. Maybe a move abroad?

I could imagine him heading to Newcastle or Southampton but not a team higher placed than them. Spain move was mooted a few seasons ago, maybe he will fulfil that ambition?

hi eds. just wondering can you see anything happening this week or not or do you think we wait till the last couple of days. really do think we need a LB badly my honest opinion cissokho is not the best I prefer if we send him back sign someone like contreao or shaw and have enrique as back up. spelling. I have posted once or twice before but nothing never comes on. be great if you can get back to me. thanks eds

{Ed001's Note - it is unlikely that anything will happen this week, clubs want to replace before they sell, which causes hold ups until the end of the window as they then have to do a deal or walk away.}
