I am sure that genuine fans can see that if we can beat even two of the teams we drew with and draw one of games we lost we have 70/75 points for season and if that cant get us 4th i will be shocked ,still think we can make top 3 once our share of luck kicks in and we have some amount of that comin ,if any one took real look at results we had they must see that a draw instead of a loss at fulham plus pick two wins out of wigan, norwich, bburn, swans, sunderland would put us in tittle shout YES i said it cause is it so shockin that we failed to beat these teams ,no just bad luck on the nite .red2toe

3 players that have a much higher overall rating on FIFA12 than they did on FIFA11. Coincidence?

liverpool are interested in nearly everyone but wont sign anyone in january as kenny dalglish has said he wont sign just for the sake of it and if he feels hhis squad needs improving he willl sign my view is that i think we will sign one player whatu think eds!!

Kenny never said that he won't sign anyone. Quit misinterpreting.

WHO IS THIS 'MACCA'?

Is he some kind of Messiah poster that everyone craves for credibility of their own ridonkulous posts?? Just like they do with the eds?

Every 'true' Liverpool fan knows that our true 'Messiah' Kenny will always keep his cards close to his chest, u mean did anyone on here even contemplate posting that we were in for Andy Carroll?? NO!

I think this is a great site when I read everyone's 'wish lists' when it comes to signing players but for Fowlers sake, please can you all stop second guessing our manager!! Wait & see what happens and whoever joins our club, get behind them!!!

There would be no point to the rumours page if fans weren't second guessing Kenny.

Ozone

He's defo not the messiah mate, he's a very naughty boy.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Actually I believe Macca did say we were going to replace Torres with Carroll, I can't really recall. He's definitely the most reliable poster on the site - he got Torres' departure right, Suarez's arrival, length of Suarez's ban, Gerrard's setback, Gerrard's return date, Coates 48 hours before any media stories on the subject, Bellamy's transfer even after the deal appeared to be dead, Downing's transfer and no doubt many more things I've forgotten.

Martin

Martin

Yeah he got the torres, carroll saga spot on, and coates.. In fact he was so correct he has with drawn a bit as his information spread like wild fire.. We should count ourselves lucky he tries to help with what he can..He is definitely aware of the clubs goings on more than most if not all posters on this site..He is deffo not a messiah, but i think jealous attention seekers are likely to scare away our gem, whether they mean too or not. I for one appreciate his imput..
D.Liver

Macca is a legend and has a respected track record. For the few that have not worked out he has provided reasons to the best of his ability as to why they have not worked out.

I think it says a lot when a number of people are banned for attempting to imitate him.

If I remember correctly, he even predicted Joe Cole arriving.

As most who post on here know; Carroll is rumoured to be linked with a move back to Newcastle and Torres with a move back to Liverpool.

Who would you choose if you had a choice of keeping Carroll or bringing back Torres and selling Carroll ?

Torres

Bring back Torres all day long.

Ozone

Not much to choose between them at the moment but at least Andy has youth; room to improve; and a better scoring record in the past 2 years. Plus he plays for Liverpool FC. When are you yesterday-dreamers going to realise Torres hasn't played well since before the world cup. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM

Hi eds, great work as usual

With this recent talk of us signing a youngster from Inter, I was wondering are any of our bright academy players such as Coady, Suso and Sterling likely to get a run out this season?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - maybe at the end of the season, if we have any meaningless games, other than that I wouldn't expect so.}

A lot of liverpool fans like me have moved from Liverpool around the world a few weeks ago our supporters club here in Calgary was on the news. When they say early sunday mornings they mean 5:45 a.m kick off.

Hey Ed 16 that's awesome. I'm from Australia (living in Perth) but I lived in Calgary from 2009-2011. Just a comment on the general attitude on this page.

Do we really want to be the next Man City? Players get 6 months to gel and perform otherwise they get sacked off? You won't be complaining when we get 4th place while meeting the UEFA Financial Fair Play criteria and Mancini is getting f*cked by every club when he is forced to sell players for cheap.

I have confidence in the team, if we loan or buy someone for the right flank this window I will be happy.

Bored now.

Get a grip!

Or could it be that Barton took all the free-licks and corners at Newcastle so is statistically more likely to create more chances for Carroll? Or is that Newcastle were set-up to play to Carroll's strengths whereas at Liverpool he is another cog in the wheel?

The fact is players like Henderson, who it seems most people think is doing a fine job, and Carroll will be Liverpool players for the foreseeable future so I suggest you get used to it.

quick point about our finances, i'm from Boston MA and keep up with the Redsox on the side, they're salary is 2nd highest in the MLB they recenly offered the highest ever contract to a player at 140million, ill tell you this. if young, quality players become available and have an interest in joining our club, John Henry and CO. will get that player. saying we have a set budge of say 10, 20, 40 million is wrong. our budge is very much deal related. again if the right player comes along for say 30-40 mil, and is interested in joining us. JOHN HENRY WILL PAY.

WE LOVE YOU LIVERPOOLLLLLL WE DO!!!!!

Also living in the states, can't help but disagree with this statement, NESV won't buy young quality players becuase they are young and quality. They buy players who will do better for the team... as for $140 million, what about AROD, Pujols? Their contracts are up around the $240 million... Prince fielder? Young talent, but not needed at the club! Please support the team and know that the owners will fund if the management think the player will make the team better! not that a player is talented.

Reina

Kelly Skrtel Agger Enrique

Bellamy Henderson Adam Downing

Gerrard

Carroll

Hope kenny put's someone up alongside Carroll cos he's getting a raw deal/slagging when he has to play the lone ranger. It's a thankless task

-------------Reina------------
-Kelly--Skrtel--Agger--Enrique-
-----Henderson--Shelvey------
--Bellamy----------Downing---
------------Gerrard------------
---------Carroll----------------

Since Spearing may not be risked in this match, I would replace him with Shelvey instead of Adam. I would also bring Maxi on for Downing in the second half.

My team to play Stoke
------------- Reina -----------
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Enrique
Kuyt--Adam--Hendo--Downing
-----------Gerrard--------------
-----------Carroll----------------

I'm assuming that Bellars won't be fit enough to play 2 games in a row, especially from the Start. I would be tempted to play Maxi instead of Downing, but I would want Gerrard pushing forward & giving much needed support to Carroll. I can remember, under Rafa's management how Stevie scored bucket loads of goals playing just in behind Torres or Crouch.

The Irish Rover

Maxi right wing would make sense

Maybe Kelly RM? Bring some added height from corners and whilst playing RM all he'll be doing is covering Johnson running on half the time

Hi all,

After listening to what Kenny has said today, I truly believe he is doing nothing more than trying to lower fan expectation and also get some breathing space from press - we all know the policy of keeping things behind closed doors

Would you agree eds?

Thanks as always

Jamie {Ed016's Note - That's what I think, I still do not expect any major signings. I expect one signing not a big name, not a big price}

We dont have big money from the owners, remember we spent 100 million plus we also brought in 70 million on sales,so owners need to give kenny abit more money,we dont want average players at lfc anymore.....irish kopite

Kenny is canny, unlike Redknapp who let's everyone know which players he covets.

Hi Eds,

In my opinion FSG aren't the right owners for us. I thought they'd be more 'loaded' in cash, but from what you're saying it's apparent that they don't have much funds at all. Now I don't for one second expect them to splash the cash like Sheikh Mansour and buy 40m pound players, but I certainly thought they'd be more helpful rather than saying (as you suggest) that 25m players (e.g. Pato) are out of our price range. They're decent owners but all I'm saying is that I thought they'd have a lot more funds than what they really have.

Just wondering what your take on FSG is eds? {Ed016's Note - I was going to write a massive argument. I got half way through, then deleted, simply because what i was defending needs no defence. FSG are the best possible owners we could have asked for}

Ed016 as much as i've found some of your responses rude and sarcastic, i agree whole heartedly about this. The days of clubs splashing the cash are almost gone. There is simply no scope to live beyond our means. Yes we want 'marquee', 'big name' signings but not that the expense of club. the sooner some fans get in the real world the better. I would much rather us build a team bit by bit and win the carling cup than over expose ourselves. Citeh aside all the others teams are feeling the pinch. the mancs are in debt up to their eyeballs and chelsea got to beg roman for some mre of his own money. a self sufficient team is what we should aspire to be

taffytel {Ed016's Note - something I wrote was interpreted as sexist(even though I was not calling women stupid but calling gossip magazines stupid). I recieved an 8 post ban. I am sorry but it is normal where I come from}

Let me ask you, would you rather be like City? Spend spend and spend, get loads of players and win the league based on the amount of money you spend?

Or be like Spurs, spending no cash whatsover and in a title winning position.

Your choice.

RenegadeRed

Ed016 - good reply to a "I want it now diva" It will take more than 2 windows and 1 season to complete the plan, and the young players we have bought will improve in that time.

Ed016 your cool! WHere you from mate?

Zorrrrrrro {Ed016's Note - Originally The Wirral. West Kirby to be exact. I moved to Canada, a few years ago. Now I wake up at 5:45 in the morning and drive in Blizzards and freezing temperatures halfway across the city I live in to get to the Liverpool Supporters club with about 30 other fans as my tv doesn't get the matches. We were on the news actually a while ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOedIsMTZR0 here is the following}

Spurs are the third highest spenders in the Premier League since 2006.

Martin

I'm sorry but FSG aren't 'the best owners possible', as you say ed. Kenny himself said, and let me quote "Everyone is envious of Man City's owners, we all wish we had their money" - so that puts that arguement to bed. Like I said i don't expect FSG to spend like Sheikh Mansour, BUT it's disappointing when the eds say that players in the 20m category (like Pato) are out of our price range, simply because I thought our owners had more money than this. Under FSG, it seems like we need to sell to buy. Suarez and Carroll were only purchased once Torres and Babel were sold. And don't be fooled by our summer activity, because our net spend was only 30m. So ed, please explain why FSG are 'the best owners possible'? The only reason I can think of is John Henry's got a smashing wife so I get to see her on TV when she comes to Anfield :)

What you have to remember in life is that the people that dont show they are loaded .more often than not have more money than the big spenders trying to flash it around . i think in the next 5yrs we will have a 65000 seater stadium and a team pushing for all honours it all about
right place right time fsg will do us proud i have no doubt.cheers psv

RenegadeRed what are you on about? Spurs have spend a lot of money!

Love how you say only spent 30 million like it's 50p unreal!!

The richest owners are not always the best unnamed poster. FSG said when they bought the club 'We will listen to the fans'. Not only did they listen mate they set up a supporters committee, made up by 13 members. These 13 members are from all walks of life i.e business people, working class people, supporters groups etc, etc, etc. This group was set up for one reason mate, to give us fans a voice in the board room. How cool is that? We've always wanted a say on what ways/ideas we have, to move the club forward.

I said before, we may not have the richest owners but we could have the best.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I don't know how many times this has been explained.
Our owners have money.
Yes it may cost say £25m for Pato not cheap but certainly not a ridiculous amount. BUT it's not all about the transfer fee, a player like as you say pato would ask for ridiculous wages, I don't know exact numbers but let's for example say 150k a week, over a year is roughly £7m plus add ons would make it nearer to £8m. £8m per season for 1 player, personally I don't see that as sustainable, and as a general rule the higher the transfer fee for a player the higher the wage.

It's not as simple as saying he is "only" £25m a 1 off payment it's the ongoing costs wages, bonuses etc to keep that player it's not sustainable. If/when "sheik mansour

(Sorry Ed accidentally pressed post before I was finished.)

I was saying if/when "sheik mansour" decides to leave or sell man city, they will be stuffed, I don't know numbers but asside from the £500m odd they have spent there wage bill would be astronomical. It's not self sufficient and not sustainable.
Our owners are brilliant, some people have short memorys, remember 18months ago. thank you John Henry and FSG.
Rant over.

Aussie red

I think the poster above is spot on. It is not the transfer fees that are unsustainable, it is the wages.

Man City will be in serious trouble and will have to have a fire sale should their owners sell up. The fans will be furious; the reputation of the club will be permanently damaged.

It is this scenario that our owners are trying to prevent. I believe that is why the ed called our owners "the best we could have".

All very well but will the sheik sell up?

The sheik may not sell up?

Many predicted abramovich would be gone by now but he's still around and there no sign of him going anywhere!

Anyone who thinks FSG r not good owners r clowns. cant us see we r trying to wipe out all our debts plus bring in the best talent, n not putting the club's finanacial position at risk by paying stupid wages to the so called superstars?

CARROLL to score a hatrick against stoke!!

Red P

I'd be happy with that. Very happy!

Dirks Engine Room

Keep the ball on the ground and we could score 3

People would still complain, saying that he should have scored 4!

Keith

The odds of winning the lottery are more favourable than Carroll getting a hat trick tomorrow.

He won't get a look in with Huth and Shawcross. The goals will come from midfield if we get any tomorrow.

Ozone

Stoke are set up to deal with balls in the air , keep it on the ground and through the middle and we will get five, red mick tag

We can say we'd get 5 if we kept it on the ground, but did we score last time? No because Begovic had the game of his life and I'd put money on him repeating that performance. It just seems there is little we can do at time and I for one am sick to death of Joe Hart, if it weren't for him or Kompany we'd have won or atleast drawn all our games with them...

The boss is not anticipating there to be much transfer activity at Anfield this month, though there is the opportunity for the Reds to bring in new faces should they wish to do so.

Dalglish told reporters at Melwood: "We've got an option to be active if we want to be active, but we said at the outset that we'd be quiet.

"It's work in progress for us. We'll just keep doing what we're doing, and the boys will keep working as hard as they can, and we'll see where we go.

"If we needed somebody to bolster up, we could do it - but I said right at the outset, we don't.

"We're not really chasing after anybody that we want to bring in in January. We've been happy with what they (the players) have done since August."

He added: "I don't think it is unusual when we said at the start we would not be very busy. I think it's unusual when people try to invent things, get it horribly wrong and then ask us to justify it.

"We said right at the outset, if anything there will be very little (transfer activity). It's a wee bit disrespectful to us after trying to be honest and saying there might not be much, that we get accused of not being active."

From Liverpools website when Kenny did his Stoke interview {Ed016's Note - Cheers}

I am sure we WILL have (a) signing/s in this window.
JWH made it quite clear that he expects to be in the top four this year. He might have said it with a smile on his face. But these people do not make their money by
pussy-footing about.
Now if your boss said I expect 'this' or 'that' over a set timeframe (and you had a job you valued) I think you would do all you could to ensure you achieved that target and guaranteed that you stayed in your job

Puzzled {Ed016's Note - I agree that there is money. Baseball is the worlds most expensive sport, the deals some players get there make even city's squad look reasonable. But I do not think this money will be spent in January, I reckon there is about 20 mill there including player salary for Kenny. I think someone is coming in, you know liverpool do not discuss business}

ED016 well if the £20M is accurate and it has to reflect fee and salary then I think we would be better trying to get a couple of good players on a loan with option (or even promise)to buy. That way only half a season's salary is used. IF we decide to buy the player/s (assuming option) then it
is coming out of summer budget. What say you?
Puzzled {Ed016's Note - I reckon its a loan}

Andy Carroll the big debate. I have watched him when he gets a chance to play and do end up getting very frustrated, at times, he slows play, loses control, miss places passes, has very poor movement within the 18 yd box and worst of all doesn't win as many headers as he should. I probs sound like a massive AC hater right now but, I'm not, I think his work rate has improved and believe he needs 1 good game with a goal and hopefully will bounce on from there (Stoke ?). All the comments I have said above are not meant to slag the poor lad off as I'm sure he has heard it all the time but, if you as a fan can't see these poor attributes he displays (hopefully soon to be sorted) then YOU probs shouldn't be watching football.
Baz Mac

Did you play football?

DaveyBootle

Whats that got to do with it?You played at that level did you?

Watching the game against man city i noticed that he lacks any speed and think if he were to lose a stone or so that would improve and whenever hes on a forward run and he loses possession he seems to get frustrated alot and comes to a standstill instead of tracking back or trying to win the ball back. i think if he loses some weight, works on his fitness, agility and attitude we could get a lot more out of him but he is deffo nowhere near the player he was for newcastle and we need to get that back. As for his lack of goals i think he has been more than a bit unlucky with many of his shots and headers - there would be a lot less pressure on him if half of the near misses/saves had gone in.

From looking at his stats on the lfc website his weight is not a problem (76kg) I think he actually needs to bulk up a bit more and add muscle to his frame. (Also look at gerrard he weighs 83 kg yet is quite a bit smaller than andy.)

This might be tricky for the average male but for an athlete it should be easy. He needs to add muscle to his figure so he has the capability to quickly accelerate from a starting position. Look at the average sprinter, low in body fat but high in muscle mass. Also look a drogba, ripped to f*** and actually weighs more than carroll (91kg) but I can guarantee his body fat will be tiny.

If I was on the medical team at LFC I would get him trying to build muscle and also his core strength. This would allow him more stability so should help his balance.

They probably have got him on some sort of program like this but it takes time so that is probably why he looks a little off this year. 22 years of leading a certain lifestyle will have it's affects on the body and won't be able to be altered straight away it will need a whole lifestyle change.

At Newcastle he was a big lad but not very muscly, to get him to lower his body fat and increase muscle mass will take time and can be difficult for some people. Also to get him to change his lifestyle will be difficult, as no-one can have 24-7 control over him.

Eventually though they will get him into an absolute tank and one of the best strikers in the prem.

Just seen a negative post towards Jay Spearing. You sir, are quite frankly a moron. Against City in midweek, he was solid in the tackle, won 50/50's (even in the air) and never gave away the ball once. He anchored the midfield brilliantly allowing Gerrard and Henderson to push forward.
As soon as he came off injured, Gerrard was forced to drop deeper to cover for the immobile Adam, and Henderson could no longer pressurise the two city holding players as he had been. Spearing Getting injured cost us what would've been far more than a 1-0 win. When he is in the side we look more energetic, far me free to attack and way more solid at the back. I personnaly wouldn't even have Adam in a three man midfield. He is slow, indecisive, clumsy and doesn't even score to make up for it. His corners are worth £10m? Well Bellamy has took better dead balls than him, and he was free! Don't get me wrong, at £9m Adam is a sound purchase, and great back up to our midfield, but we have better options available. When Lucas returns, i'd love to see him partner Spearing in the midfield, and let Gerrard run wild behind the striker. Just my opinion, but its no coincidence we were on the back foot from the moment Spearing said "No".

YNWA! (Adam)

Quite right. Too many people do not appreciate understated attributes. Many slated Lucas but now yearn for him. If Spearing can eradicate the over zealous tackles which get a yellow or red card then he will go on to be an accomplished midfielder in the Makele role which so many clubs pay over the odds for, think Deschamps, Makelele, Toure, Khedira. Spearing is an essential part of the squad.

I agree... Jay Spearing is like a Bull Terrier on speed! He's 110% committed to everything he does! He's a great player to have in the squad!

Spearing is top class. just watched the man city match again he was brilliant up until he had to go off. he was the one that played a brilliant pass for carrolls chance. he plays some great forward passes. great player.

THE BIRD

A great squad player yes but he will never be a big part of the Liverpool team or key to our future successes.

Adam is the weaklink in our midfield imo. Too slow n immobile, plus his setpieces r crap. Spearing wud be a good backup for lucas till coady is ready.
Indian Buzzer

Spearing has come on very well, getting some good passes in and breaking up play. If we needed to, we could stop any team from scoring if we had Lucas and Spearing in DM aslong as we have Agger and Skrtel at CB

Oh yes, he will.

I was hoping this January that maybe we'd get a couple of signings, especially a forward. But if we don't, i still and will always have faith in the current squad. We are going forward and the fact that Kenny has said there is money available if the right player cropped up is great. It shows that the owners are the right owners and have been amazing when it comes to offering money (and not too much money as they're very sensible in budgeting). The fact that we're on the verge of going to wembley shows we're going in the right direction. And i trust the squad. When Gerrard, Bellamy and Suarez all play together, that's as good an attacking front 3 than anyones. Let's push for fourth and support the reds throughout everything!

how does kenny justify mr andy caroll's price tag . please for heaven sake 35mil future prospect i would rather have seen adam morgan step up to the plate or suso or adorjan but caroll seriously .
now i was skeptical of henderson but the lad has show some glimpses of hope andy just seems to get worse with every game . slate me how much ever you want but the god damn fact remains no 9 would never belong to caroll it's righteous owner is adam morgan.i hope kenny gives the lad a run.

What a moby

So you want to play 16/17/ year olds against full grown men. They would be kicked to death, lose any confidence they have. 10 or 15 mins at a time is the way to go. Be sensible like KK

Cant believe some people !!
Carroll an England international vrs youth team players ??

whats everyones hopes n expectations this season. what would they deem a succesfull season 4 this giant of a club, take into account we finished 6th last season ?? kenny and the owners have mentioned top 4. whats your views ?no beating around the bush about work in progress cos its been that since houllier

I'd take any cup win tbh. Guaranteed then for Europe as well as a trophy once more. To me that is progress. History is not judged on league positions but on silverware and once a team gets used to winning it then becomes the norm. A morale boost for players, club and fans alike

Taffytel

Top 4 is a must IMO, and a cup would be nice, very achievable target, mostly down to Arsenal and Chelsea's inconsistency rather than our own merrit, but if the goals do start to come I think we will leave them both behind.

Its sad that a player like Steven Gerrard will end his career without a premier league winners medal, He had his heart set on the Chelsea move a few years back but his dad begged him to stay and the rest is history, Not a very good history at that, He should of signed for Chelsea when he had the chance, But ill be honest, He was a great player

Was? more like is.

Bye troll.

I'm sure the memories of going to bed with the European Cup will always make up for it though.

Maybe one day Chelsea may experience that feeling? If only John Terry hadn't slipped on his ar5e hey.........

JRG

Obviously not a Liverpool fan then?

It wasn't because of his dad that he didn't move, It was because he'd heard that Terry had called Dibs on Alex.

Tommy Walsh

He stayed at liverpool to be a EUROPEAN CHAMPION, the biggest tournament in club football , the chavs are a russians plaything not a giant of world football, best player in prem history in my opinion
5gold stars

Gerard is lucky enough to be part of a club with an actual history, a real club not some corrupt oligarch's play thing, he will go down in history as being one of the greatest player of all time for one of greatest clubs of all time regardless of whether he wins a Premier League title or not(he has a few years left in him yet so it's hardly impossible) Chelsea hardly seems like the happiest place in the world to be any way, and I very much doubt that he has ever once regretted his decision, Gerrard is a loyal Liverpool man, he wouldn't have fit in with the mercenary, egotistic prima donnas at Chelsea.

Hasn't Castaignos only scored one goal for Inter not that great for young potential would prefer Courtinho

Yes he's scored one goal. As a 19 year old in just 4 appearances...
He is the Dutch U17's all time top scorer with 13 goals.
He scored 15 goals in about 40 appearances for Feynoord whilst he was 17-18...
I've only seen him play once and he looked good. However most of my judgement of the player is based on statistics, some from wikipedia. but lets not write off a 19 year old with 1 in 4. Its ludacris.

YNWA! (Adam)

1 goal in 4 games, yes, mostly subs, and a great goal at that too - in the last minute as well.

Eds, a quick question for you. Gerrards new contract, no financial details have emerged but do you think it would be fair to say he might have taken a reduction in wages, in return for a loyalty payment. Thus freeing up some capital for other contract extentions or new signings cheers RobSmith JFT96 YNWA {Ed002's Note - No idea and we should not be considering such matters here.}

Lol, he would have been paid more if anything... if he gets injured again and is out for months again it really will be value for money!

Gerrard is worth every million we pay him. He talks to likely transfer targets and tells them about our fantastic club. Don't you realise playing in a team with Gerrard attracts a lot of players to our club. A true legend

Hi there Eds and Fellow Reds,

Good win on Wednesday and hopefully another one tomorrow. Anway the point I wish to make or rather gauge opnion about is our elusive new stadium.

From what I gather our options are to extend Anfield or to build a new stadium. Obviously there are pros and cons for both and either project would obviously require substantial financial backing, which may affect our potency in the tranfer market, players etc. On that note (I am about to make a controversial point in some red fans eyes) what does everyone think of stadium share with Everton. I know many people will slate the idea but I do think that it should be viable option to create a stadium alongside Everton. I think it may be the way forward for both clubs. I think financially it will keep us sound and provides, in my opnion a much better option than extending/rebuilding the anfield. Eds in particular I would like to know your view on this or any inside info you may have on why it may or may not happen. Fellow Reds obviously would love to know how you feel about such a move and any Everton Fans aswell are more than welcome to join the debate. {Ed002's Note - The club had previous said this idea had been considered and rejected.}

Can we stop puttin Carroll down please and downing let's not let them feel like they walk alone. Regardless if u think there no good I think if Carroll got the same support as Newcastle fans shown him we would see the same Carroll that attracted us to him. It must be tough t go out in front of 40000 fans and know ur not playing as u can. Let's remember he didn't say he was worth 35m mike ashley did. As 4 Downing he can give more and will lets just remember who we all are Liverpool fc fans were known 4 being the best support in the world lets keep that image

Redman j4t96

As a Newcastle fan I have to admit I was gutted when he left, and to top things off in the summer I was not too please with us getting Demba Ba as I was unsure he was able to fill the void. Ba proved me wrong. Carol is class, and he is the best player in the prem in the iar, the thing is the service he gets is poor. Downing can cross in some games and shows why he gets in to the England team, then the next game he shows he should be back at boro. Stevie G can cross, but you cant stick him on the wing to feed the big man. Liverpool need to sign someone with crossing skills. Milner would be ideal. Otherwise he is wasted and will come back to the Toon... discounted price. Keep the faith and he will become a world class player with the service. {Ed019's Note -

Thanks mate and I completely agree, when barton was putting the ball on his head he was the most feared player in the prem. When Stevie G came on against Newcastle we startde to see some of that monstering of defenders in the air. I will always have faith in Andy. YNWA

Excerpt from an article on the club official website:

Dalglish could be without the services of Jay Spearing for the visit of the Potters after he picked up a hamstring injury in the midweek victory over City.

However, the manager is confident it's not too serious.

He said: "Jay's not as bad as what we thought at first. He might be touch and go for tomorrow, but he should be okay for next week."

I think its important for fans to get jan transfer window into perspective. It really isnt a great time to be buying players. Its a time when clubs try to rip you off and get as much money as they can for players. I would be really disappointed if we bought a player who was not a long term target like a de jong and just spent the money on anyone when you could get a market price in the summer.

We have been in a position where we have just spent money on anything and the club as been in financial trouble and i would hate to be in that position again. I think we have a brilliant squad who are doing really well and some damm good youngsters just below the first team squad.

If Andy Carroll is great potential
maybe we should paly him only
after he is potented?

And how is that potential ever going to become talent then?

Stop being negative. I understand everyone's frustration but give him some time.

PITSILFC

How much time do you want to give him 7 years and still say he needs more time, get a grip he is rubbish complete rubbish

Where gas the 7 years come from? He cad been at the club coming to a year now pretty much the majority of it injured! At 22 he has around 2 year to nature and reach his potential. Some players mature at a later stage than other. He isn't doing the job at present fair enough but lets judge after a fair run of games... The same people I bet jumped on the band wagon regarding Lucas, now he has matured into a world class DM! To many sheep on this site at times, give the lad a break, people forget he was quite a rebel at Newcastle the first thing Liverpool needed to do was knock that out of him. Then you have his injury which he had to recover from and most of his price tag, it isnt his fault for the huge price we paid. However, that is on his shoulders and the poor lad most probably has in his mind how on earth is he going to live up to such a valuation. Once he gets his mind set right gets that weight off his shoulder plus a good run and a few goal we will all see a different player. The player who give defenders nightmares like at Newcastle. You can ask any professional footballer or infancy any level striker, without confidence that goal looks like a mouse hole and the keeper looks like Andre the Giant. Once that confidence comes back he will come good.

So Mr Kompany is appalled that Glen Johnson didn't get sent off for his tackle or interception if you're from Liverpool. Having had the benefit of many replays and still frames to examine here is another take on the incident. Glen Johnson decides to intercept the ball and stop an attack so he sets off towards the ball and successfully strikes it with both feet and kicks it into touch. Lescott appears to want to kick the ball as well but by the time he pokes out his right foot the ball has been duly despatched by GJ and is no longer in the place where he thought it was. Lescott continues his kicking motion and by the time his boot gets to the appointed place all he can kick is the back of GJ's calf / back of knee area. The Referee has seen the interception and deemed it to be legitimate. He may have missed the Lescott contact on GJ's calf / back of knee area and allows the throw in. Lescott does not appeal to the Referee or complain. Could he have been thinking he was about to be booked for kicking an opponent?
Just shows how we can interpret incidents differently having seen replays and freeze frames where the officials only have a fleeting glimpse of the action.
I rest my case - Lescott should have been booked not Glen.
Midsred

Apart from which, a two footed tackle is not illegal unless the referee judges it soi on a case-by-case basis

Too many LFC fans are gullible on here. KK says he's happy with the squad and what they have achieved and people post on here saying 'Why should we accept 6th place, blah, blah, blah.' KK keeps his cards close to his chest (It keeps the prices down of possible targets.) would we rather Harry Redknapp in charge talking about every player he wants to sign? No, its disrespectful. LFC WILL sign 2 players this window, but no world class money will be spent, a striker and a midfielder, young up and coming players

Stop dreaming there is no new players

Kenny Dalglish admits he is in a position to be able to add to his Liverpool squad if required, but says he has no plans to dip into the market at present.

The Reds took in a busy summer on the transfer front, with a number of fresh faces brought into Anfield.

Dalglish is happy with the business he was able to carry out during that window, with Liverpool having returned to the top-four hunt in the Premier League this season.

With there no obvious areas in need of strengthening, the Scot feels it would be foolish to spend money for the sake of it.

He does have funds available should a suitable target become available, but for now the Reds boss is refusing to be drawn into the endless rounds of speculation which greet the opening of the January transfer window.

"We've got an option to be active if we want to be active, but we said at the outset that we'd be quiet," Dalglish told the club's official website.

Work in progress

13 Jan 2012 14:26:49
i hope a striker is bought. but if no one is coming, at least sell the players that are not going to be in Liverpool's future plans such as kuyt, aurelio etc. get rid of them now so we can not worry about it in the summer. what do u guys think?. thank u and YNWA

Did anyone else look at the BBC coverage of the first leg? I was on the South Stand with all our travelling supporters and what struck me was the number of Manc day-trippers who photographed the 'Blue Moon' as the lights were dimmed and it appeared on the TV screens. Didn't hear any Manc singing because of YNWA drowning out all the noise in the stadium. However, the BBC coverage filtered in a clear version of 'Blue Moon' just before the kick-off, when the truth was, all you could hear at this time were our travelling supporters. BBC Manchester bias?

Well, if you were in a spot
surounded by Liverpool supporters
all you would hear is you'll never walk
alone and other Liverpool chants.
If you were placed in the man city
end I suppose all you'd here is
blue moon or probably a chant like
' money, money Man City' ...
to the tune of glory glory man united.

I wonder where the bbc place their microphones during games?

Dear Rocket Scientist

You probably didn't hear the City fans singing at that time because you were amongst the LFC fans singing YNWA.

It really is not that difficult to comprehend.

And please stop this paranoid anti-Liverpool b****hit. It really is tiresome and embarrassing.

They hae them all around the ground which enables them to navigate away from distasteful chanting, or in the mentioned case here enhance singing.

Couple of questions.
1. How did you know I was a Rocket Scientist?
2. Were you the Manc donut who set off a blue flare at the end of the game?

Ed's

Today Kenny has been quoted as saying that he is in a position to be able to add to his Liverpool squad if required, but says he has no plans to dip into the market at present. As reported on Sky's website

Now I know not to be as stupid as to trust what Sky say most of the time but could this be true?

I was aware of the interest in a player from Inter and the possibility of some other deals to be finalised in the summer but could we really go through the whole window without any movements either in or out ?

Markiemagoo72 {Ed001's Note - there is not likely to be much happening, the players I know of that we targeted, are just not interested in moving ahead of the Euros. So it is likely to be a very quiet January. Maybe a good thing though, the players are beginning to settle down nicely. The thing is that it could all change in an instant, one signing could easily spark off a major merry-go-round, but it seems highly unlikely this January.}

13 Jan 2012 14:20:01
This idea of Carroll leaving, Tevez going to Milan and Pato joining us isn't such a bad one. I think that Carroll we could still get £20 million for from Newcastle, espeically if they manage to get 10 for Ba during January. Pato would probably be 35+ nearing 40 million but would definately be worth it and would still have a re-sale value. Tevez would go to Milan for in the region of £20million so Milan would be happy with a nice profit as would Newcastle, we lose out financially but it doesn't take a genius to see that Pato is twice the player of Carroll and would suit our attacking system much better!
Imagine Pato and Suarez leading the line, any defence in the world would be scared... it's a long shot but come on Kenny & Commoli!

i really cant belive we are not going to sign a decent striker i no its not carolls fault but we shouldnt have signed him ,if we had another top striker to go with suarez we would already be in champs league places, i think we should sell andy for 15 million even 10 and admit it was a mistake and move on because for 35million pound he shouldnt need years to settle in and he slows up our game ,he can chest a ball but cant control it,cant pass the ball , to slow to close down defenders they have all the time in the world to play at the back, and then he moans if some one mis-places a pass to him ,wen he does it all game, sorry but its true

KD has just came out and said we wont be busy this window, So I guess Junior Holiett, de jong and co will have to wait till the summer. At least now I wont be on the rumour sites everyday like a obsessed maniac lol.

We all know now no players coming in,still think we need a striker an get rid of kuyt

Being 'busy' and signing 1 or 2 is totally different, well it is in my view! Remember Sir Alex saying he wouldn't sell a virus to Real Madrid and then Ronaldo goes there a week or two later? Have faith in Kenny and the team.

Stop all the rubbish liverpool are not buying any players this january this comes from the king himself its all over sky sports website. He actually did an interview and said no new players coming to LFC so sorry to burst everyones bubble but its the truth,i believe kenny after all he is the manager, personally i wish he would buy a striker but its not going to happen.......irish Kopite

Kk is the same as red nose when dealing with the press,of course he is goin to say nobody is cominh in

IrishKopite, has ever a manager in football said one thing then the opposite has happened?

This is mordern football transfers of "smoke and mirrors". If a players comes available we will buy, if not we won't. Its that simple!

liverpool to sign a young and up coming winger from watford by the name of John Barnes for 900.000k to fling crosses in for 50p head Andy Carroll.

A Danish gent with a partial scouse accent called Jan Molby is heading to Anfield to take the role left by Alonso that has never been filled since leaving for sunnier climates.

Further more the heart of defence is going to be rejigged to fit some steel inbetween Marytn Skertel and Daniel Agger and this male will have a dodgy mullet and moustashe and goes by the name of Mark Lawernson.

all bargain buys and will see us complete a double!!

Have to say I'm very impressed with Henderson. I see an incredible amount of potential and he is improving so quickly. Will be a world beater in a few years mark my words

Aus red {Ed010's Note - People don't seem to grasp that with the way Kenny sets up the team for quick pressing of the ball and keeping possession you need a player like Hendo who is willing to run run run. I am sure having Gerrard back will do nothing but good for him}

Cheers Ed

"The entrance of thy words giveth light ;

The Real KB {Ed001's Note - I wonder what the impatient fans of today would have made of Houghton? Henderson reminds me of him in a lot of respects.}

How come at the games alot of folk arent echoing what your saying? rather the oppssite along with carroll n adam , lots of moans n groans in that respect, just cos they wear a red shirt doesnt mean they command my support , my kids are decked in red shirts n i go to as many games as my finances allow, i pay alot so im obliged to have a say as me and like so many who even just pay for a jersey r a magazine are allowed a say and are justified in their views that these lads are not up to scratch , its alot of unhappy fans

5gold stars {Ed001's Note - lots of fans were moaning about Rush in his early days at the club, lots of fans moaned about Lucas in his early days too. When are people going to learn to support the players and give them a chance?}

Ive always rated henderson even when he was at sunderland he hardly gives the ball away and his work rate is brillant he is gerrards replacement when gerrard hangs up his boots!

Andy Carroll could not be in a team with quick passing, its just not his type of football

LFCGirl#

You guys are basing it all on the hope of what henderson might be !!, i watched him in the euro u21 competition n he was very average in a tournament with players his own age , he was not even nearly one englands top performers, i think the coady chap is a better prospect ( henderson is 3 years n prem)

5 gold stars

The real KB

It may seem simple to some but hendo has an off game sometimes and takes a lot of stick. Some still don't believe in him or not to the extent he deserves..

To 5 gold stars

I don't understand why you pay money to watch the games when all I see is you complaining about players or the club in your post.

Aus red

I know mate.
I can understand people giving Carroll, or even Downing some stick, but I like Henderson. He's played in about 3 or 4 different positions in midfield too, people seem to forget that.
I like Charlie too. Adam that is. Lol.
The Real KB

Ed001 - he reminds me of a young Ronnie Whelan at times. He can split a defence with a pass thats straight and true, and zips across the turf with pace, just as Whelan used to.
Whelan showed the same nervousness in his early days as Hendo shows now, only Whelan went into a Liverpool team that was full of confidence, whereas today's team has yet to show that same confidence, which only comes with winning.

Digger {Ed001's Note - Whelan was with us when I was just a kid, I don't really remember him all that well, but Houghton I do remember, I loved his effort. Oh and somebody bought me his book for my birthday after his first season with us. So he has stuck in my mind.}

Henderson wasn't great with the U21s but then again no-one was, probably because of the tactics from a useless manager.

5 gold stars:
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you haven't played to a very high level. Because honestly, if you had there is absolutely no way you would be slating Hendo. I play defensive mid and if my central midfeild partner/s were as hard working off the ball as him I would be ecstatic. He is simply brilliant defensively with his work rate and high press. Its not an easy thing to do and he does well, so do me a favour and shutup.

There will be no signings this january.(King Kenny i happy with his squad. A quote from the man himself)
I am sure pointless speculation will continue, probably even when the window is shut.
What is it with the Fergie and moyesy in the transfer market. fergie sells him, casts offs, fergie gets Rooney and probably Rodwell knowing fergies crafty ways.
Very cunning mr Fergie, very stupid my moyes
Moyseythinks the're mates (My Arse)

Anyway I'll be very surprised if there is any transfer acitvity regarding the Reds. Judging by Kennys remarks,
yes he keeps his cards very tight to his chest, but he seemed pretty convincing, Plus things have been rather quiet on the gossip front, especially from the gossip grapevines I know.

Just a point, not a view! Cozinoz,k.b etc etc keep saying likes of Ozone,5 Gold stars should come back endve season when Carrols a success etc.Ild like just to ask them, and Eds who back Carrol, conversely will you come back on here, and hold YOUR hands up if he doesnt make it?Cos the stick these fellow Reds getting(and Waro,Redturk)is untrue.Their Reds! And think at least two ATTEND games, which defo gives you a better overview.I thought there would be more respect of fellow fans, and less childish namecalling(welshboy)just cos some have oppossing view.I thought we had most intelligent fans in game, and that bonded us.Maybe not=YNWA

I don't think anyone has predicted that Carroll will be a success by the end of the season. And do you think that people should apologise at the end of the season for backing a player?

As I said yesterday, I don't think many fans, me included, wanted the club to sign Andy Carroll. But now he is here I am prepared to back him and support him and give him the time he deserves.

You say people should show more respect to the anti-Carroll brigade as they are fellow fans but how much respect are they showing to a Liverpool player who represents our club?

JRG

My posts are not malicious in any way , im just putting my view across, i dont expect u all to like it , i never for one min think henderson will be a world beater, descent yes but not gerards replacement as gerard is extrodinary and was so at 19, henderson is 3 years a prem player , i watch him v closely , when lucas comes in and gerard n suarez play he wont its simple , ill hold my hand up if im proved wrong on carrol henderson and adam , i bloody hope im holdng both hands up as ill need to be if we are to get top 4 thats for sure, we finished 6th last season mite i add, if we do again does that mean were standing still ?? after the summer spree, ok were in a lge cup semi and thats nice, but ask any fan and they rather champs lge, its liverpool football clubs minimum ask , plus its the worst arsenal team in years along with the worst chelsea and united team n years and we still 6th, honestly to say your delited with the progress is beyond me, its been ok like, good results here and there

I would mate, definitely.
I can't say I'm convinced by Andy Carroll, but there's no point moaning about it after every match. Let the lad and the backroom staff get on with it.
Some like him, many are prepared to suffer and wait and see, plenty others want rid.
To me, the middle ground is often the most sensible and that's where I am with him.

Kenny Dalglish told reporters on Friday that Liverpool are "not chasing anybody" in the January transfer window, in an attempt to quash endless rumours surrounding the Merseyside club.

Dalglish has been bemused by recent reports linking £35 million striker Andy Carroll, bought only a year ago, with a cut-price move back to Newcastle. The Reds have also been linked to a £27 million enquiry for Eden Hazard

Hope its true about Hazard, Hazard and joe cole ?

I really hope we sign some players in this window

Players that would sign for any prem team just to play in prem. So forget about who is coming in and get behind players that are hear and now. Rant over back to work lfc til I die

Hee ed's im from South Africa.

Enjoy this site, totaly addicted & follow daily, the sarcasm is noted, mostly enjoyed, but at times rather harsh on some of the lads.

Your opinion to the following:

We are linked to all & sundry, but here are a few names I think could add if not boost LFC.

De Rossi - nuff said, great footballer, temprement, but thats his passion - can add steele to our mid & also has a great range of passing.

Barazagli/Kyer/Raul Albiol -while I agree we do not need defenders right now- but these are quality defenders either not playing or available if we do decide to make a move for them.

Djibril Cisse - never rated by Rafa_ still has the killer insticnt infront of goal, plenty of pace - can stil do a job for us.

Arda Turan - Kenny rates him - he loves LFC - why is he not here.

I'm not worried about the fuuture as much, Sterling< Coady, Suso are our future - give em time - too early & it may ruin their careers - but gradually give em some game time. If we were in a better position point wise, they wouldve been starting now already, but Kenny knows what he's doing. When we are challenging agin then it will all have been wortyh the wait.

LFC forever {Ed001's Note - De Rossi is highly unlikely to leave Roma, he is their Gerrard (though obviously not as good a player). Like you said, we don't need a defender, not sure any of those are good enough anyway. Cisse was not good enough and never will be good enough. Turan is a little lightweight for the Prem, as in he picks up a lot of knocks rather than being small and light.}

13 Jan 2012 10:26:16
Friend , you are struggling with the concept . This is a banter page . The poster gave an opinion . This opinion ( on Carroll ) is shared by the vast majority of those of us who turn up every week . We still support the player .

I have just watched the full 90 minutes of Newcastle vs Liverpool , 11.12.2010 , just over a year ago . What a performance by their centre forward , unplayable .

Therefore , the question does arise , what is wrong with him ?

Is he :-

Too young - no , he is 23
Too fat - no , not now
Too injured- no , not now
Too new at the club - no

This is a real puzzle , and yes , I do feel sorry for those who have to watch him live every week , including myself , knowing that at 57 , and with a wooden leg , I could offer more up front than he currently does .

You could have added the following:

Low on confidence, aware of the fact that he is disappointing so many fans (God help him if he reads these pages), despite being desperate to do well for the club?

I'm sorry to hear about your leg.
What happened??

LAVERS

And of course the critics would say 'he only has one good foot'
Puzzled

Lack of service?

We all remember what he done against us last season and also what he done to City last season when playing for us. He has a dynamite in his left foot as his first goal against City showed and he has decent movement and aerial ability in the box as his second against City showed us.

The problem is he has been playing with his back to goal too much this season so is unable to use his shooting ability, and very few quality crosses have been put into the box. The few times he has been on the end of quality crosses he has looked dangerous:

City at home when Joe Hart pulled of a great save in the last few minutes.
Norwich at home when he done well to get a header on a ball slightly behind him in the last few minutes.
Newcastle at home when Gerrard whipped in a great ball that he put against the bar.
Oldham when he really should have scored.
Swansea at home when he hit the bar and probably should have scored

Apart from these I cannot think of any other quality crosses that he should/could have scored from. The problem is he is getting 1 quality cross every two or three games whereas he should be getting 2 or 3 per game.

Andy Carroll is not the kind of striker who will beat three players and curl one into the top corner. He needs people to create openings for him. Seeing him trying to run down the wing against City was just embarrassing. We don't want him there and he shouldn't have been there.

We know from playing against him and playing for us that there is a decent player in there trying to get out. We just need to give him the service and confidence.

JRG

@ puzzled, he's got a wooden leg, of course he's only got one good foot!
Puzzled as well.

Lavers ,

Thanks for your concern about my leg . I was stung by a Cane Toad while installing a refrigeration unit on a ship in Panama , no anaesthetic available but these things happen . I would trade the other one for Carroll to become an LFC legend .

Pato is 22 and AC Milan accepted £28m from PSG for him yday but he snubbed them, we are looking for a striker and some of the strikers on here mentioned have been from De Jong to Soldado and varying from £12.65 to £25m, so would it not be a wise buy to purchase A.Pato as he fits all the criteria of NESV and would represent a good sell on value and would certainly fit in with the way we play.

Great news with Stevie G staying put for life and beyond. What with talks about him and Carra taking on some sort of ambassador type role it would seem that we have the makings of a "Boot room" mark 2. Also heard that wa*ker Adrian Durham banging on about Stevie being the greatest player never to have won the premier league and how he will regret that for the rest of his life....WHAT A BELL END ! I think his trophy cabinet looks pretty healthy and he can say with his head held high that he has no regrets. How many born and bred through the youth ranks from other teams can say they did that... Rooney (joke), Lampard (joke), Ferdinand (joke). apart from some of the scum players whom have all but retired or staging desperate comebacks there aren't that many... Who cares about any signings this window we've got Stevie back the man the legend... YNWA Tobiwan

On the ongoing Andy Carroll debate not everyone is the same. Loads of experts keep saying he doesn't look fit? I keep thinking how can that be?
But as I said not every one is the same, perhaps he's leaving it all on the training ground and he's overtraining for a lad of his size. Alan Shearer said the other night he seems to have lost some of his core strength and he does, he looks no where near as strong as he did at Newcastle.
So I would say to Andy Carroll ,"Yes Train but save a bit, the most important thing is to impress on the pitch and not on the training ground. There's been loads of players over the years that have not been the greatest of trainers but did it on the pitch. Perhaps Andy Carroll is one of those players.
kidmillions

True few years back i think houllier got asked a question who is the best trainer an kewell come out on top but he never really impressed on matchday.

I heard rumours that he has been put on a very intensive training regime.
I remember Owen having something similar to try and stop all the hamstring injuries that were happening.
He played the season he was having it done, but wasn't very effective.
It was the following season we could see the benefits.

To be fair to him he looked like he gave his best in the city game just never had a chance second half because in hansens words we had a flat back 9.

Is it me being paranoid or since the BBC have moved to Manchester have they all become indoctrinated into Mancness and have an axe to grind with anyone from Liverpool. We have the hysteria over Suarez (compared to Terry coverage); the hysteria over one or two so-called fans alledgedly racially abusing a young Oldham player (I'm not condoning it, but this sort of thing happens week in week out the length and breadth of the country); the hysteria over Johnson's interception agains Citeh and also the hysteria over Paul Jewell (also an LFC man) alledgedly sexist comments.

Jewellgate hasn't been discussed on here so I'll explain a bit for overseas fans who may not have heard about it. On Tuesday night Ipswich, who Jewell manages, were denied a supposedly clear penalty which the female referee's assistant had a good view of but failed to flag for. Yesterday the BBC were reporting that Jewell had said "I think everyone, to a man, thought it was a penalty. Unfortunately to every man, but not a woman. Although the referee didn't have a good view, I thought the lineswoman, or whatever she's called, had a great view." - on the face of it that seems a bit Andy Gray like, however what the BBC kept quiet about is that it was in response to a reporter saying "'everyone to a man thought it was a penalty". In the context of a response to the journalist it doesn't read at all like sexism, but like a witty riposte.

We've suffered at the hands of the media for a while but the new Manchester Broadcasting Cororation are taking things to a whole new level.

Bob

The BBC haven't moved to Manchester they've moved to Salford and the staff that did work in Manchester have joined them there.

Redpath

I agree with this and would like to make the point that there is always a media war going on for ratings. If the controversial event happens when BBC are screening then they will flog it to death to show they are one ahead of Sky and the others. You only have to listen to 5 live in the morning, they will ask someone to comment and say do you agree with this or that and then ask why or why not. Later in their news they will announce that x said whatever on 5 live this morning. They try to make their own news just like the press. Football manager's comments are twisted and taken out of context simply to enhance their own ratings. Take whatever you read or hear with a bucketful of salt!

Kev

I think it's you being paranoid mate as the Terry case is an on going police investigation so they can't say much and also the Beeb haven't once mentioned Downing's recent troubles...I would have thought that they would have jumped all over that one calling the pool a bunch of wife beaters as well as racists. Gutter press is gutter press and we all know who that is but the beeb do have some standards I think... Tobiwan

In my opinion, yes we're all entitled to one lol, we only need to sign one player this transfer window to help transform our fortunes and push for that top 4 spot and league cup and of f.a. cup and that player is Lucas Moura! Forget your Hazards, Ramieres', Zahas, Higuins and loaning unproven young italians etc this lad can really play! Yes unproven in the prem and young but he is pure class and can play either wing or up front or behind the strikers, skillfull, direct and would genuinly offer us something different. Yes there's a small issue of work permit and all that but thats why I'd go for right now.

Come on reds! A top 4 finish and either cup would be genuin progress for this season.

Correct me if im worng, but did Macca not state that the player we're being linked with plays for Inter - surely this cant be as obvious as Milan - could the player we're being linked with be Leandro Damiao for "Inter-nacional" - he's young, unproven (in europe), talent!

What the Ed has suggested is a very good idea, i find if im makin a post, i put my real name in the name section, but if im only replyin, i tend not to do that, but i cant imagine anyone wanted to pretend to be someone from Plymouth, lol

Can i just say a huge thank you to Stevie G.He has served the club with passion and heart for over a decade at the highest level. He has carried this club almost single handed with the weight of expectation and stayed when he could gone.He has scored in the most important games like the milan game at 3 down, like the west ham fa cup final with i think his best goal.Imagine where our club would be without him.Great news about the last contract i hope he is manager one day with carra as the assistant. To me he is already an ambassador for our club he is a legend here and in five or ten years when i have kids i will tell them about the legend that is Gerrad.
red-raj

Gerrard has been at the club since 8 and made his brekthrough into the first team some 14 years ago, next year he'll have a decade and a half of destruction to other teams.

I'd suggest you read his autobiography if you havent already, i know it might be a little out of date with everythin thats happened since, but im currently half way through it and its a very good and interesting read

Great site!

Just wanted to say ed016 you're becoming my favorite Ed! I love reading your comments on some of the more ridiculous rumors that people come up with... Classics! Keep it up!

I do think we have a great squad for the future and we should just be patient, I think 1 to 2 players would be the max we would purchase this transfer window. Saurez will be back in no time and now that Gerrard is back we should see more goals as Gerrards through balls and set up play is what we have missed! Not to mention the penalty taking... That's 2/2 converted in 2 games... We struggled with missing penalties! people seemed to forget that Gearrd and Saurez haven't played much together so having Gerrard back and fit is a big bonus for us and could be difference in us finishing top 4! very nteresting with folk here wanting the ericksens etc because henderson n adam would be subs!! they wont hang around on the bench if we were ever fortunate to sign them. i go and cheer the team on , but its like blind faith at this stage, what i will say as dissapointed as i am with henderson adam n carrol im v happy with enrique suarez and agger n skrtels performances which have been outstanding . plus our saviour is looking fit n strong and like a man possessed! just need players around him with real quality to feed off n to feed him , suarez d obvious benefactor,
i wish we had more than suarez tho and we should have with the 66mil spent )

That's were you're wrong. Most of the reasonable & sensible posters know there is no chance of getting Erikson at this moment in time. That's were the sensible posters & the dim wits differ. This has been said a thousand times, without the lure of CL football then such players won't be interested in coming to us. The same goes for Mata, Hazzard, Ozil, Higuain etc etc. You keep slagging off Hendo, Adam & Carroll. I suggest you look at our results against Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd & Citeh with these players & then we can have a sensible discussion. Don't be coming back tho with " We did well in spite of these players"

The Irish Rover

How is it blind faith? I have seen this team beat Chelsea twice away, beat Arsenal away, dominate both United and City at home and generally play good football all season that hasn't always got the rewards it deserves. I can see what the players are capable of producing so it is not blind faith.

You are so busy picking on the faults of our players that you cannot even appreciate the good things they do. Since Henderson has been moved to centre midfield he has been superb. If you bothered to pay attention to him Wednesday you will see what he brings to the team.

JRG

I wonder where our club would be now if DIC took over all them years ago, even though im happy with our new owners i think we are years behind spurs, city, chelsea, and utd.

We are the one team in the top 6 that has less points than our overall performances deserve, by the seasons end I believe this will balance out and we will get our rewards in Silverware and Champions League qualification.
kidmillions

Years behind chelsea and spurs haha thats a cracker !
Weve beaten chelsea twice, beat and drew with city and were unlucky against utd but we'll put that right in the cup. Spurs are above us and play good football but we will catch up on them soon enough . In one full year king kenny has got us on the verge of a final and were still well placed to go for fourth so Give us some credit if your a genuine liverpool !

REDGAZ

If DIC had taken us over in 2007, they's be looking to sell in 2014 as per their insistence it stayed in the contract. it was 'one' of the excuses Moores and Plick Parry used to go with those two idiots. Give our current owners far more respect.

At times you go backwards to be able to go forwards. Longevity is the name of the game.

Bob the red

5 Gold Stars. i have to disagree with you. It isn't blind faith to look at the bigger picture regarding Henderson in particular. We should all realise we didn't buy the finish product but a work in progress. Those who look at the price and think we should buy the finished article for that amount are the naive ones. Henderson is improving in leaps and bounds. if he keeps this going, he is going to be some player in a few years time.

Can you not see this? We are buying potential and moulding players into the LFC way.

Looks a good project to me. I am absolutely delighted with the way the season is progressing, compared to what we had in Oct 2010.

Be patient. It's all coming good.

Bob the Red

Weve also lost to stoke fulham n drew aganst norwich swansea blackburn wigan!! im not slaggin them off im merely saying they were poor buys, lets see were we finish? if we lose that 2nd leg n finish 6th (hopefully not) lets hear what you have to say, im not part of the buddy system on ere were your all super positive n all pals with the edds im just giving a few home truths, if you think henderson carrol n adam are good enough so be it in your mind , but majority of folk at the games aint and they use more colourfull language than what im using to describe them!!
5 gold stars

I go to all the games as well and have been going since 1959 , and i expect us all to have opinions thats only natural , but blind faith can be bad not every thing we do is right .some players do deserve the bad opinions of them expressed regulary , i would be told off regular if my performance at work was as bad as some players , we all want the same mutual benefits of having a good team and players , but open your eyes certain players do not try and they do not deserve to be glorified just because they have a red shirt on.
red mick tag

Bob and Irish,

Do you really think Hendo worth 16m more than Shelvey? I am not knocking the boy, he is getting better and better, but as you said he is work in progress, and the way I see it, take 1->3m of the 16 give it to meireles to shut him up (he was promised it), then you have Shelvey as work in progress and Meireles which provide something different.
As for DIC or any other for that matter, like it or not unless you are united , you need lots and lots of cash to get anywhere near the league title, its interesting what Spurs are doing atm, but I think most of us know, come end of season and they will be adrift of the top 2.
Roy

Roy, from what I've heard apparently Meireles left because the 'gentleman's agreement' you mentioned was made during the hodgson era. As new owners came in and Dalglish returned there was nothing to suggest such an agreement was originally made. He left, his choice. As for Hendo and Shelvey, Hendo was an excellent buy, we'll undoubtedly reap the benefits. Shelvey's loan spell at Blackpool seems to have done him a world of good and is playing some cracking football at the moment. And now that Gerrard's back, our midfield is looking even stronger. Meireles looks to have been easily replaced mate.

Hi guys!

I was juz thinking about the past 1 year and the progress we've made.

This time last year, we were out of both cups and stuck in mid table.

Now this year, we're still in both cups (with 1 foot in the carling final) and still realistically challenging for a CL place.

I know some people will never be happy unless we win every trophy in sight while playing the best football on the planet, scoring 5 and conceding 0 every game.

But the truth is we've made a lot of progress and we can be proud of the work kenny and the team has done.

Here's hoping we keep progressing until we win the lot.

And may it be sooner rather than later so gerrard can lift a few more trophies. It's really a travesty that players like the nevilles, evra, carrick etc have EPL winner's medals while an adsolute monster like gerrard doesn't.

Football god, please make it right. Soon.

Thank you.:-)

Great post and would just like to add that even the most pessimistic of fans must see and feel like we are finally turning the corner. Rightly or wrongly fans are entitled to their opinions on players, but that argument aside I hope everyone else is buzzing at the fact we could actually be in another final. I don't care what cup it is, or how poor rival (jealous) fans think it is. If we win the Carling cup then as much as we want CL next year we can play with no pressure for rest of season as we already qualified for Europa. I think this will give us such an advantage over other teams who will be feeling pressure 'til last game. Come on You Reds

Taffytel

Totally agree; it's a long time since a Liverpool team has consistently dominated possession in games even when we lost at City 3-0 we had 66% possession and only individual errors undid us.
The team ethic that Kenny and his coaching staff are instilling will in time bring the desired rewards. And in future when we do sign players they will be stepping into a well organised and well drilled set up. Which will always give any new player the best possibly chance to hit the ground running.
kidmillions

We certainly didn't have 66% possesion against City in either game. I don't know where that has come from.

Ash

Ash,
You can see where Kenny's going with the team though. He likes his midfielders. If the Macca crack is true, and it's Coutinho for instance, that would be another midfielder added (albeit an attacking one). I think Kenny wants his team to get hold of the ball, control it and dominate possession. That's the way we're going mate, and it's great to see. Just wish the strikers would bag a few more !
The Real KB

KB,

It wasn't a dig at us. I like the way we are playing football at the moment. I've posted on here before that I believe Kenny (and of course Steve) are great at the "on pitch" side of the game, but (and I have to be honest) are awful in the transfer market. We are doing ok at the moment, its just had we spent our money wisely, we would be doing even better!

Right fair enough everyone wants to have a go at everyone else over their opinions, no-ones allowed to slate players, everyones got to be singing off the same hymn sheet blah blah blah..........look........
some of us believe big Andy will come good...fine........some of us think for 35m how come he keeps falling over his own laces as running is surely a basic requirement to being a premier league footballer......all opinions and were all entitled to them, but lets not slag each other off because we all have the club at heart, we'd all love to see the big man ram all this nonsense down our throats and start banging them in every week, none of us would complain, just like when a certain Lucas came good, those of us that complained about him held their hands up and said wow! this lad can play...we were wrong!.........
Ill support the big lad through thick and thin while hes wearing the red badge and i hope for all our sakes he starts giving us more hulk and less banner.......but lets not berate our own for having an opinion on how he plays, I personally thought the lad was dire against city, while others i see think he put in a good shift......Dirk ALWAYS puts in a good shift too....but is he gonna win us the league?..........We bought a lad at the last minute who had to leave his hometown for the first time to be thrown into a new city like a rabbit staring into the headlights, no doubt the transition hasnt been a good one as it wouldnt be for a lad of his age, and ive no doubt the price tag has weighed him down a bit too, not everyone has supreme confidence just because they earn a potful of money, but maybe more than anything the change in lifestyle at the training ground with this obsession with getting him mega fit and trying to mould him into something hes not is the real reason were not seeing the real man we signed instead of the lost little boy..........
So he likes a beer, so he likes a good time, so hes a wrong un, well....just like Rockstars....sometimes its the little rebellious things that make you stand out in the crowd and make you a little different, im saying they should leave him to get on with it and see what fruit that bears not to mention maybe give him a suitable partner up front before resigning him to the transfer bin...........just a few thoughts, but come on were well positioned for a good push and a trip to wembley......lets make the most of it with a little less grumbling.....The King will sort it out, have some faith........YNWA JFT96

Best post for a long long time. Totally agree with everything in this post, no nonsense just how it is. Let's all get on now and let our boys push for the top spots like we all want.

Thanks, just felt the need to have an honest opinion with no b/s.....we need to pull together and hang in there....were improving and if certain players improve into what we know they are....we'll be fine YNWA JFT96

How about Glen Johnson in left back and Jose Enrique in left wing?

How about kelly right back, enrique left back johnson right wing

How about keeping it the way it is because we can't fault the back line?

I'd put play downing centre forward
and Carroll left wing.

Carroll can then try to show Downing,
the type of service he expects and
Downing can get more confidence in front of goal and can explain to Andy, what it is to run in a game.
is to run

How about kenny picking the team and all of us supporting them?..JG..

No way kelly looked so shakey the other night johnson is an should b are number 1 full back.

Ed 016 I'm liking the humour . Mine is not a rumour just an opinion clint dempsey would be a nice addition to our squad along with a goal poacher like defoe and would not break the bank
Lucky the traveller

Agree over Dempsey - we seem to be looking everywhere for a striker and loads of names being mentioned EXCEPT Dempsey. He is big, strong, confident player and scores regularly.
We cannot expect to change into an all British, under 22 years old team and march into the top 4.

13 Jan 2012 06:31:25
i strongly believe that we wont sign any big player this window, players will be waiting till the summer to see if we get into the champs league , its so important we do i cant imagine another season with ou it, it will open so many doors if we get a place and the likes of hazard, a johnson, higuain, errikson etc would become more likely, so we need to get behind the boys and dont expect kenny to splash 30 mil or so this window, with it only being us, arsenal and chelsea i think for 4th we really need to start putting teams away!! {Ed016's Note - we won't sign any big names}

People need think about how important it is to get in the champions league. We could then attract the players we would all love to see

Jan Venegoor of Hessellink has a big name,
I hope we don't sign him!

Hello Eds,
First of all, fantastic work by you guys and Macca. My first post but i am addicted to this website.

Well, as far as Tevez loan is concerned, won't it be good for Mancity if they loan him out to us at this stage. They are not going to play us again in this season, and if he scores goals against other teams, it may favor Mancity (In some cases). Although i believe he is not the right kind of player for our club (as you/other ppl have said before). Whats do you think Eds? {Ed016's Note - For a loan a % of his wage would have to be paid if not 100% of it, his wages are astronomical that and his petty childish pre madonna attitude has probably put most suiters off. I wonder what he did to piss of AC milan. Anyway glad you enjoy the site}

Sorry for the post as it may hurt fellow reds ..

1st of all many people ask what do Carroll, Downing etc Bring to the team..

Can i ask you what you bring to the club by not supporting players we have ..

Have you scored Handfull of goals when you were only 22, Physically imposing best defenders..

Did you whip is crosses for Middles, Aston Villa that made you part of Eng setup already having lot of midfielders..

Were you a brigth prospect at around 21 in a mid table team..

And more then ever ...Were you HandPicked by the King Whos has won more silverware then Silver cups we have at our homes :)

So Please start supporting the team, and they will come good...
If Some players are not good enough according to the people who have knowledge more then us ...I am sure they will take care:)

Blind faith is a hard thing to deal with , ask evertonians , support the team always but have a mind of your own , some players will never be great players just because we want them to be.

How you define great players...
Henry ..how gr8 was he at Juventus..
Schvcheko ..How gr8 was he at Chelsea..

They were given more time then 6 Months i think in the Clubs for whom they were Greats...

I dont think players being discusses will reach world class level ..but I believe they will make us better as a TEAM..

EDS just a thought..seems the player most likely to score for us is Gerrard....maybe KK is thinking of playing him up front with Bellamy and Andy (Suarez when he gets back) I want to see big names come in but really, we have a good squad..just needs time...buying a player like Coutinho seems something for the future..good buy in my opinion. Hope Macca is right. {Ed016's Note - I honestly have always wanted Gerrard to play a very attacking role. I forget who we were playing but Hendo and Stevie were doing quick one twos on the edge of the box with that bursting energy into the box with a quick strong side that can rip a defence in to pieces, glad he is back. He even scored that way linking up with Hendo.}

Ed, do you think Gerrard is making Hendo his understudy? To replace him when he needs to move on? I've noticed since he's come back Henderson looks alot more confident with passing and like to play a similar role to Gerrard. Personally I think he's the closest thing anyone will ever get to the next Gerrard and for £16million, I'd say thats money well spent

Hendo is nothing like Gerrard

There are no Gerrard replicas

Only pale immitations

I think getting both coutinho and castaignos would be a good idea...Coutinho's got the skill and attacking instincts to link the midfield with the strikers which I think we lack without suarez and castaignos looks to have a lot of potential and no doubt the boy can finish....eds what's your opinion of these players...

I'm not sure if he will or not but it will be hard for him to break into the team especially as Agger and Skrtel are playing so well.}

One of them will get injured soon enough; mark my words. Carrargher as cover for that and Coates for additional injuries or suspensions.
