Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

I personally don't get all this rotation especially when it comes to keepers. Karius would be my no 1 for q full season.
It was just one of those games. Poor.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed0333's Note - invariably you’re gonna getgames when everyone’s off. Unfortunately this was one of those times.

Okay, seeing a lot of stick being directed towards Klopp on this site and on social media as well. Don't fully understand it myself but I thought I would add my own thoughts, as little as they are.

In my opinion, Klopp cannot, and should not, be blamed for the result. He put out a strong team, one that we were all begging for, but the players simply didn't take the chances that they should have taken. The tactics, Klopp's tactics, created chances, kept us defensively solid for the most part, and put us on the front foot for the majority of the match. We were the only team that looked like scoring, besides the odd scare that comes with our shaky defence.

The only thing Klopp can be blamed for us is the late subsitutions, which is a problem that has been apparent since he joined Liverpool. There were many players out there that looked tired and needed to come off (Salah) and others that were playing poorly and should have been removed earlier (Mane) .

That is the only area were I have grievances with Klopp and it is a problem easily rectified. On the whole, Klopp is not at fault for this result. We just didn't take our chances, simple as. A consistent problem, no doubt, but that doesn't make it no less true in this scenario.

Atleast oxy has been a revelation for us. What a waste of 40 million.

13 Dec 2017 23:19:16
Players bollocked Klopp for taking salah off when winning 1-0. So now you want him to do it at 0-0?
The hypocrisy is astounding.
Klopp had his best starting 11, maybe Gomez in for lovren. But hands down his best 11 we know off. Didn't score. Had the Fab Four. Didn't score. Looked lethargic and carrying pebbles in pockets, but that's what 99% of you all wanted.
To me two things have been proven, 1. It's nice to have a keeper that can come and catch a ball and 2. Rotation is key. Rafa was the worst for it, his stint wasn't too bad eh.

13 Dec 2017 23:26:05
Posters not players. It's late 🤦🏼‍♂️.

13 Dec 2017 23:57:45
I don't think Rafa dropped half the team after a 7-0 win. That's madness.

14 Dec 2017 00:01:50
I don't understand when people say the manager can't be blamed for the result.
That is the one thing the manager is most responsible for.
Win lose or draw, it's the manager's responsibility and his remit. That is what they are judged on.
If we don't get top 4 or a trophy the owners will not be blaming the players.

14 Dec 2017 01:20:19
I unfortunately didn’t get to see the game. But I’ll never understand why we ever put Ox in midfield. The only times he’s impressed has been on the wing in a forward position.
Granted idk where he played today but I’ve seen him take some stick.

14 Dec 2017 04:20:43
If it is not for managers fault, Brendan would be still at the club. Pulis at West Brom, Bilic at West Ham, De-Boer at Palace. Liverpool fans has other ideas!

14 Dec 2017 07:23:07
On a positive note. In the past we would have lost last nights game and same to Newcastle, Everton and Burnley. We've turned defeats into draws. On that not its step forward. Small steps but still forward.

14 Dec 2017 07:37:15
Salah missed a header against everton managers fault? mane slipped at a crucial moment against everton, managers fault? Again yesterday against wba we created chances where the ball should be in the net but hey klopp should be on the pitch converting those chances its all his fault.

14 Dec 2017 08:23:50
It was a good side Klopp put on the pitch and again we created chances. Against Everton and West Brom playing these sorts of tactics, putting one away early is critical because the way they play you won’t get too many clearcut shots on goal, and by the 60th they have gained confidence and become even harder to break down.

You need that first to draw them out. sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t. Move on. nothing wrong with Klopps tactics apart from maybe subbing a little earlier hopefully.

14 Dec 2017 08:36:21
klopp is there to make decisions. the rest of the world is there to criticize them.

14 Dec 2017 12:23:41
Spot on, Grob and KloppDaKop. Blame Klopp for the players missing open chances. Blame Klopp for putting out the team many wanted when it does not work out. Same old, same old stuff. Salah and Mane looked tired BUT had Klopp subbed them off and we drew or lost, people will still be mad.

They forget that these games happen where your strikers are not on form and in some quarters, the refs don't help and only compound the frustrations. We just have to keep working hard and improving cos in the end, that is all you can control as a manager. When the players are on the pitch missing chances, you are powerless.

As for Brendan, he was a failure for the last 18 months of his reign and created a whole mess that Klopp is trying to fix till this day. He deserved the boot and Klopp has improved us steadily since then. Those are the facts.

14 Dec 2017 12:24:53
Klopp his a top manager who plays attacking football. Play to win, best form of defense is to attack. I will let the haters hate.
I love our style and remember 5mths of woy. We have lost 2 games so far this season City and spurs away.
I said top 4 and a good run into
champions league would be gòod season for me. We are still in the mix so I will keep the faith. Football should be about entertaining the fans. Our manager tries to do that.
Come on you reds.

13 Dec 2017 22:50:13
disappointing result, decent effort from the lads and came close a couple times.

Still don't think coutinho playing in the central midfield is any help to us. he is fantastic and can pick a pass, but too many time he plays a pass to the full backs around midfield and then he is out of the game. we need him higher up the pitch affecting the play in the attacking third. still think his best position right now is on the left wing (4-3-3) or left sided attacking midfielder (4-4-2) where he can play up near his mates.

2 away games up next. think that is for the best to be fair.

Believable3 Unbelievable2

13 Dec 2017 22:40:09
If it changes direction off an arm and goes in its a foul mate.
Was Trent injured? I kind of hope so as why bring him off as the final sub?!
Coutinho couldn't beat a man or pick a pass today, too much intricate stuff and too many 'killer' pass attempts.
Thought Trent and Robertson did as well as they could considering the lack of movement up top.
Karius had a few flappy moments, a strange free kick, but he dealt with them all and made so decent saves.
Gini was quiet again, and can was laboured I thought.
Salah was off today, seemed to have a good few touches then wasted it - course everyone can have an off day!
I was pretty much sat worrying the whole game Salah would get injured!
Very annoying game, lack of creation again, but at least we kept a clean sheet. Need to win these at home though.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed0333's Note - that was utter dross. Tiredness, lack of creativity, not making earlier substitutions however you wanna dress it up it was abysmal. They weren’t playing as a collective but a bunch of individuals. You thought Robertson did well? I must have been seeing a different match. His play lacks intelligence and cohesiveness and I think he’s a weak link. Can you imagine what a Ronaldo, or a De Bruyne would do to him?

13 Dec 2017 23:00:45
I thought Robertson was really poor tonight. Him and Wijnaldum offered nothing and whilst they weren't the only players to have bad games they were the worst offenders.

13 Dec 2017 23:01:33
We knew what we were getting with Robertson. To be fair he wasn't klopps prime target.

13 Dec 2017 22:58:28
I wouldn't write off Robertson just yet. The lad has ability but has been sat in the stands for a long time. He needs a rhythmn of games to understand his role, a chance to make mistakes and learn from them. All manner of training can happen throughout the weeks but matches are where most players really begin to understand the role and the demands placed on them.

I personally agree with you, ED. I didn't think Robertson had a good game, at all. However, with time and patience, I think he could push himself into the first 11. It will be difficult, as Moreno has really refound a good vein of form, but he has a period of time where he can play regularly and learn. New team, new way of playing, new expectations. This will take time but I think he, and we, will be better for it.

{Ed0333's Note - Not writing him off mate just saying he has a bad game. I concur with regards to Robertson being coached into a better player Christ Kloppo done it with Moreno and I thought he was a lost cause. I will however maintain Robertson isn’t up to the required standard momentarily. If we were to play PSG, Madrid, Barcelona or Juve in the Champions League would you be confident with Robertson at left wing back?

14 Dec 2017 00:21:48
Still young and only had a handful of games, not sure he should be written off already.

14 Dec 2017 08:38:01
robbo is alright, but that's about it right? like he ain't any worse than moreno, but I don't think he is significantly better than him. anyways, good for him to get a run of games, hopefully he can push on.

14 Dec 2017 12:27:33
Robbo is light years behind Moreno and yesterday showed that. Had Moreno been on the attacking side last night, he would have ripped Nyom a new on and got behind him many more times. As a group perf., Ed03333 is right. Too disjointed, lacked guile and pace and too many poor perfs. on the offensive side. We looked jaded. The interesting thing was that Utd and Arsenal looked jaded as well and had it not been for DDG, B'mouth should have gotten a point. We just have to do better next time, that's all as nothing is lost yet and had we won both games, nothing would have been won either.

14 Dec 2017 08:45:38
Ed0333, and you would be confident of Moreno up against Ronaldo, De Bruyne, PSG etc, coz I wouldn’t be mate. We still don’t have a LB who can defend first and foremost and that will show when we meet the big boys.
Wonder how much Robertson would improve after a couple of years with the club like Moreno’s had. You’re being very harsh on a guy who hasn’t even made the bench for most of this season.

{Ed0333's Note - personally I wouldn’t afford Robertson 2 years but my point is I don’t feel he has the ability to be shaped or transformed into a player. I will gladly eat humble pie if Klopp turns him into Javier Zanetti.

14 Dec 2017 09:45:51
What's your point Ed0333? Nobody will feel confident with Robertson v any of those teams, but let's go through the entire backline and midfield,
You comfortable with Lovren/ Klavan or Marko against Aubamayang, or Ronaldo? How about Trent v Messi or Neymar?

You can't use Robertson won't do well against the top teams as an argument. Go from Mignolet to Wini and all those top teams murder us man for man. We've got a fab front 4 enough to compete with the best attacking line ups, from there back, lucky to be top 20.

{Ed0333's Note - my point is young man that we should be signing quality left wing backs that are capable of playing football and ready for the first team.

14 Dec 2017 12:54:40
Ed0333, are you confident with any of our defence/ midfield against those teams?

{Ed0333's Note - yes if we play like we did at Anfield against Arsenal in August.

13 Dec 2017 22:32:30
We'll all moan about that performance but I want to say a huge shout out to Karius, if it wasn't for him we'd of lost tonight, well played kid.

Believable11 Unbelievable1

13 Dec 2017 22:24:24
That didn't go to plan. A lot of huffing and puffing but no end product. Mane has really gone of the boil lately which is worrying. The only positive is the defence didn't do anything stupid for a change.

Believable7 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2017 22:29:02
Been thinking the same about mane, seems to be trying hard just not coming off.

13 Dec 2017 22:20:10
7th draw in PL now.
Tonights was due to an inability to break down a stubborn defence rather than a stupid mistake.
Hopefully we can get 2 away wins to compensate for dropping points at home.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

13 Dec 2017 22:45:56
Sadly Klopp has failed to overcome teams managed by Fat Scam and Alan Pardew. A worrying trend!

13 Dec 2017 23:35:37
These draws have cost us top 4 this season and possibly klopp his job. I personally think 6th position this season.

14 Dec 2017 09:47:24
You should just type 'insert negativity here' instead of actually posting.

13 Dec 2017 22:09:56
Hate to say it but west brom deserved a point tonight Liverpool huffed and puffed but didn't blow the house down good saves from our keeper kept us in it.

Believable8 Unbelievable1

13 Dec 2017 22:23:47
Fully deserved.

13 Dec 2017 22:08:55
That was the worst Gini Wijnaldum has ever played for Liverpool. I can remember a single contribution he made in this match. And again felt we missed Moreno on the left . Robertson is just not on the same wavelength as our forward players.

Thought the goal should have stood. But the deflection from the unintentionally handball did send the keeper the wrong way. So even though it's a hard pill to swallow, can understand the decision.

Some of the match officiating decision did make my head scratch. That match had a total of 6 substitutions and West Brom wasted time whenever they could. The reference did warn their players, so officials decision to add just 3 additional minutes is a head scratcher and in additional time the referee did have to book a player who was not even on the ground for time wasting. Still the referee decided to end the match exactly at 3 minutes when Liverpool had possession at the edge of opposition box.

Maybe I am just frustrated watching the match and frankly we were miles off from our normal level today. Sorry for the long post.

YNWA.

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - its obvious that you will look for reasons why you never won maverick, forget about the ref mate...you were just not good enough..

13 Dec 2017 22:22:13
I agree that we didn't play well tonight. Also the fact that it's 3:50am here and me having to go to office in about 5 hours also doesn't help. : (.

13 Dec 2017 22:27:35
When teams shut up shop, because of how tight it is, referees really do have too much influence over the final result. I would love football to get better officiating or define the rules a lot better. the refs can bend the rules whenever they want. There shouldn't be a thing as lenient and strict refs and the fact that refs can do as they please just ruins football. In the end football will move on without them and they'll only have themselves to blame for being so inconsistent as each football match seems to have their own set of rules. rant over. I wouldn't wanna be klopp right now.

13 Dec 2017 22:22:57
Agree Ed25 bit these refs need to get s grip of the time wasting. I was at the match tonight and Foster wasn’t even warned, with only 3 mins extra time at the end.

Takes only a second to score and as pooor as we were tonight, 3 mins extra time was an absolute joke. We’ve seen lots of last min goals scored this season.

{Ed025's Note - i know what your saying drogie and the standard of refereeing has been very poor this season, but liverpool did not fail to win because the ref made some bad decisions mate, they were poor last night all over the pitch and the tempo was very slow, the lesser teams seem to have worked them out it seems by sitting and letting the reds blow themselves out..

14 Dec 2017 15:02:57
I’m in total agreement re our lack of cutting edge, pace and tempo agoamst teams that sit deep, believe me Ed25 I sit there and got so frustrated.

My point is, games are won deep into injury time, even when not playing well, United did it for years mate. This constant time wasting by Foster warrented 3 mins alone!

You wouldn’t have seen ( on tv ), there was a situation, where the ball went behind for a goal kick ( kop end where I sit, ) and it went between the advertising and the pitch ( into the gap ), Foster decided to just kept kicking the ball along the gap for as long as he could get away with. Where was the linesman then?

I’m not one for blaming results on officials but last night was really bad.

13 Dec 2017 22:03:44
Inconsistency at it's finest once again. Every season we show glimpses of being a top top team in this league by putting strings of 3-4 winning games together and raise the hopes of us fans to think we could achieve something to then shortly put dull performances in and look like a complete different side all together I really don't understand lol. But owell it's all fun and games and on to the next.

Believable2 Unbelievable1

13 Dec 2017 22:01:56
What are peoples opinions on Wijnaldum. Henderson gets a lot of stick for apparently going sideways (though he drove us forward against Everton quite alot) but Wijnaldum doesn't even do that, just constantly backwards. All he does is lay the ball back to whoever passes it to him. I don't see him as a defensive midfielder so not really sure of what he brings at the moment. Would have brought him of a lot sooner than he did.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2017 22:05:47
I think we will see a shake up of the midfield in the summer.

13 Dec 2017 22:08:19
A wrong signing whose place is upgraded by the signing of Kieta! He was never a CM in the first place. Klopp like with Hendo shorn him to the current role! You ll keep asking this question on many players going forward! AOC would be next!

13 Dec 2017 22:11:00
I agree, I don't rate him one bit, he will always have my support whilst been a Liverpool player but he's just not doing it for us one bit.

13 Dec 2017 22:48:12
For me, there are two sides of Wijnaldum. One, is the man that strings together passes in our midfield and helps it to operate. And two, is the man that is completely annonymous during matches, afraid to make a mistake or do anything that might make him look bad.

Unfortuantely, the latter is the player we seem to get consistently. He has good to great games, don't get me wrong, but they are few and far between. Most games, Gini might as well not be playing. He seems scared, would rather be distant from the action than get stuck in and make himself known. More technical than aggressive.

I think Keita is the upgrade we need, he has a lot more in his locker, is brave, aggressive, and can contribute to offensive moves with his dribbling and pace. Gini is a decent back up option, nothing more. To step in when someone needs a rest or when an injury has occured.

He should not be starting, in my opinion. Unfortunately, we have little option as we have a frequent run of games coming up and he is needed. The man will never decide a game for us, he will always be in the background, either helping our passing game flow or he will be non-existant.

I am sure many will disagree but these are just my thoughts.

14 Dec 2017 10:46:12
LFC-S MANGO you have summed up my feelings perfectly! I have been keeping a beady eye on Wijnaldum this season and some games go by where I'm sure he doesn't make one forward pass over the 90 minutes. Even when seemingly obvious options are available in front of him, he puts his right foot on top of the ball, swivels around, and plays it backwards to the CBs. Although Henderson gets a lot of criticism a least he attempts to play the ball forward from the same position!

13 Dec 2017 21:55:07
Oh my gosh. I blame Klopp. What was he thinking putting out a full strength side. Should have played the players he did against Everton, at least they scored.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

13 Dec 2017 22:05:57
But it's all about momentum, and if you keep ringing the changes you lose the momentum.

Our squad depth is not strong enough. 3 points from our last 3 home games is a bad return.

13 Dec 2017 21:54:14
Well there you go klopp plays his stronger team against lesser opposition than Everton an we still only get a draw please explain someone?

Believable5 Unbelievable1

13 Dec 2017 22:01:48
Must be that Moreno, Henderson and Mignolet were all missing? Also, it is now very obvious we don't need defenders, but more forwards.

13 Dec 2017 22:48:11
Too many changes to the team on a regular basis.
Rotation is fine but you don't drop 6 players from a team that's just won 7-0. Players won't know whether they're coming or going.

14 Dec 2017 07:22:34
If he had played best team, Everton would be wrapped up half time and he can rest players. The 1st team players are exhausted chasing the Everton game hence not Sharp this WBA game. Klopp's previous mistake has carry on effect.

13 Dec 2017 21:53:00
We are not top 4 quality, we should be happy with a top 7 finish. One hit wonders.

Klopp take a bow, you are playing rotational suicide.

Believable5 Unbelievable19

13 Dec 2017 22:06:34
Here we go the blame Klopp lot are back after going in hiding! He has put out 2 teams v Everton and Wba who have dominated the games and missed or squandered plenty enough chances to win game. He can't do anything else rather than run on to pitch and score himself! Hate this age of blame manager here ever think it may be the players who have wasted or missed to many chances?

13 Dec 2017 22:52:27
Klopp cannot be blamed for the result. He put a strong team out, which we were all begging for, but the players simply didn't take the chances that they should have taken. The tactics, Klopp's tactics, created chances, kept us defensively solid for the most part, and put us on the front foot for the majority of the match.

13 Dec 2017 23:27:11
Win lose or draw stick behind the team! Tired of reading posts slating individuals or Klopp . I love this club and have done since I was a kid and it makes me sick that whenever we don't rip teams apart there’s an army of over dramatic cry babys venting there frustration on here . does it make you all feel better? (you do know it achieves nothing? ) My dad used to say “if you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t speak at all” . some people need to heed that advice and stop filling the pages with whining!

By all means let us know of your disappointment in a polite and suitable manner but some posts I’ve seen on here over the years almost make me feel shame!

Yes we just didn’t seem to click tonight but you have to give credit to West Brom they were very well drilled and knew how to frustrate us, heck they could have come away with 3 points if it wasn’t for Karius, it can’t be easy for our attackers when the final third is comparable to Black Friday shopping!

We have a great team and a great manager, remember the teams we are chasing bar Tottenham have next to unlimited funding and can cherry pick the best players with the enticement of big dollars . Get behind the team and don’t set your bars too high! I believe that Klopp will deliver but some fans think we should/ must be lifting trophy’s now . this is the first time we’ve had squad depth in years!
Rant over : ) YNWA.

13 Dec 2017 21:53:40
On city. When we were hammered by them with 10 men I said they were my favourites for the title. 18 points ahead of us and December still not finished. World's apart yet only a few tweaks and players would change that . Hopefully we get a quality central defender in January and have a real go at the champions league.

13 Dec 2017 22:00:32
Big Am, although i agree we need at least one CB im not sure what they would have done today to fix that poor result.

13 Dec 2017 22:02:20
Big Al, the coach is the key for city. We were short changed with the Klopp deal.

13 Dec 2017 22:34:23
City’s midfield is streets ahead of ours whilst ours are decent players in their own right we don’t have any that consistently provide killer balls or even look like scoring.

Hello Redmen,

Sorry the loan update is a little late this week. In my area of work at this time of year I barely have time to sit down! (No I am not one of the elves)

Frustrating draw at the weekend, but despite the results there are plenty of positives.
We absolutely battered a full strength Everton and should of comfortably won despite rotating key players for this busy period.

We are unbeaten in 10, only 2 defeats in the league all season, the only team with a better record is City who are absolutely flying!
Yes we need to improve defensively, but think of where we were when Klopp joined compared to where we are now.

A note to all fans, we now have that expectation that we should win every game, which in football never happens. This is part of the reason why we love the game.
Klopp has installed this belief in us fans, so let's not turn on him the second things don't go to plan. A season is a marathon not a sprint so let's see how things end up.
This is the first time we have reached the knockout stages of the champs league in a decade.

Also sustaining a top four place is more difficult this year as we are now juggling champs league football at the same time. So far Klopp is doing well with the challenge. Finish top 4 and build a little more etc etc etc

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, heres the loan update

Ryank Kent was an unused sub as Freiburg beat B M'Gladbach 1-0

Jordan Williams returned from injury and played 45 minutes as Rochdale lost 4-3 to Bradford in an end to end thriller.

Toni Gomez played the full 90 + extra time as Forest Green lost 2-1 to 10 man Exeter in the FA Cup.

Allan came off the bench in the 25th minute as Apollon won 1-0 lifting them to 3rd in the league.

Wolfsburg V RBL, Origi V Keita.
Honours were shared in this match which finished 1-1.
Keita played the full 90 for RBL whilst Origi came off the bench in the 66th minute.

Chiverrella again played the full 90 as Willem II drew 1-1 with relegation rivals NAC.
Willem IIsit 2 points above the drop zone.

Connor Randall finally returned to the Hearts starting line up after his Red card a couple months ago has saw him sit on the bench ever since.
Randall played the full game at RB and Hearts beat Dundee 2-0.

Ojo played the full 90 and scored the only goal of the game ad Fulham beat Birmingham 1-0 . Fulham have so far had a disappointing campaign but since the return of Ojo their form has improved.

And that's your lot RedMen.
We have 5 games between now and the turn of the year and I am predicting 11 points from those starting with 3 points tonight.

Believable4 Unbelievable1

14 Dec 2017 05:17:25
Seems like Ojo is doing well at Fulham - getting games under his belt and putting in decent performances, good signs. Curious as to how you think Chiverrella is doing as well Carra - could you see him playing a part in Liverpool's first team next season?

13 Dec 2017 19:37:53
Reply to brover from three days ago, didn't realise my post was shown hence I did not reply to you. I'm right behind klopp and have been from day one and continue to be so, but he got it badly badly wrong on Sunday and it was a stonewall penalty. Two questions for you, question 1.) Is klopp above any kind of criticism no matter what decisions he has made or will make in the future? 2.) If that penalty happened kop end to Salah and we didn't get it, what would you have said on this very site?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

Can't agree with any of your post waro. If that were the case there would be at least 5 pens every match if you watch corners. And Klopp isn't above criticism but fact is we completely dominated Everton but didn't take our chances.

13 Dec 2017 20:55:21
163 fouls a game if that's a stonewall pen.

13 Dec 2017 22:22:41
A full strength Everton? Who are you trying to convince Carragold?

14 Dec 2017 07:23:37
I agree with Waro.

It was a foul in the box plain and simple.
Saying there are hundreds of challenges like that unpunished per game is not an argument. How many shirt pulls get penalised in a game? Still doesn't stop a shirt pull in the box being a foul.

13 Dec 2017 19:27:26
Karius starts! Sweet Jesus, I had to do a double take. Please let this be the start of him staying in goal.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed0333's Note - it’s a typo mate, Migs starts 😀

13 Dec 2017 20:00:41
Ed333 don't do that to me! Being a Liverpool fan is not good for the ticker as it is 😀.

{Ed0333's Note - I think the entire Liverpool fan base throughout the planet thought it was a typo and still can’t believe their luck

13 Dec 2017 19:01:15
Mad that coutinho salah mane and firmino all start today!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - maybe you think they are better than everton firmane?..

13 Dec 2017 19:11:28
We know they are ED!

{Ed025's Note - we will finish above them waqas and i believe you will muller them tonight, so thats not exactly true mate..

13 Dec 2017 19:15:09
Are my eyes deceiving me? No mignolet? Halle f***ing lujah.

13 Dec 2017 19:28:35
I didn't actually finish the post, more to come lol.

Rumours of Salah not playing are apparently incorrect and he is starting!

13 Dec 2017 16:45:39
Afternoon all,

Little summary of some of the stories out there today -

Klopp appears to be going to allow Ings to go on loan suggesting the player wants first team minutes.

Ladbrokes has made us favourites today for Aubameyang.

Markovic edging closer to a move back to Turkey in Jan.

One of the more surprising but repeated stories is - David Silva linked again to LFC

Salah a doubt for today with a slight muscle injury.

That's all of note.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2017 17:00:58
Would be good for Ings to get some regular experience, Aubameyang I wouldn't personally want, Markovic leaving would be good for all parties, I hope he can reignite his career elsewhere, would love David Silva but just can't see it happening, some may say his age is against him to that I'd disagree he's still unbelievable. Gutted to hear about my slight injury, even I was unaware.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath over Aubameyang.}

13 Dec 2017 17:37:49
Is there anyone we could hold our breath for ed? any treats?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained in the Sharkopod where there is interest in players that I am aware of. You can add to that the young Benfica CB I mentioned and I have explained what the agent of Vrsaljko has said - but I would not really expect anything to come of either of those.}

13 Dec 2017 18:22:40
Aubemeyang had bad relationship with klopp apparently.

13 Dec 2017 19:33:25
thanks man.

13 Dec 2017 14:27:32
Hi Eds, Just wanted to know if there is any problems between Salah and Mane? been reading a few reports stating that there is. Im guessing its total nonsense.

Many Thanks!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any problem that Salah has with Mane or anyone else at the club right now.}

13 Dec 2017 17:07:10
The media are trying to cause problems once again, during the champions league press conference with mane, the press kept asking mane if the other players need to score more, hinting at him also saying it's a one man team, I think it has played in his mind since, Moscow game was a little greedy and same with Everton.

{Ed002's Note - The media has no interest in causing problems for Mane.}

13 Dec 2017 19:40:46
Heard Mane is not happy that Salah getting all the acolades.

13 Dec 2017 12:51:33
Hi Eds,

With regard to potentially strengthening at centre half - .................

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - You are really on the wrong page for this - this is the Liverpool page. We have a European page for such questions.}

13 Dec 2017 10:47:16
Benny, my mate has said he will be linesman for the game, but he'd like to know the final date by around February/ March time just in case.

He did also suggest he could source another linesman or even a referee if required. I've told him to hold fire though because I'm sure you mentioned you were hoping to get Dermot Gallagher involved.

And you never replied to my email so I'll reiterate; I'm not a left back! 😂 anywhere ahead of the defence please Ed001!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I was never intending you as a left back don't worry.}

13 Dec 2017 11:22:37
Thank god Ed. Not if we're serious about winning 😂 I'm a liability at the back. Though I'd play right wing back in a back 5 if you're feeling like Tris Conte!

{Ed001's Note - I am more Mike Bassett than Conte!}

13 Dec 2017 11:46:06
I expect to be played on the left side of a front 6 then 😂 Trust in me Ed. Some people call Nakamura, the Japanese MK Scouser. My free kicks are that good 😉 You've got this trophy in the bag boss. I'll put you 4-0 up in the first 20 minutes with a 25 harder, after a Carragold hat trick of sliced clearances lobbing their keeper, we'll all get get cramp, and then we'll capitulate to be drawing 4-4, before Fornax shoots from 120 yards, and the ball ricochets in off Benny's derriere for a 96th minute own goal. 5-4 to us. Put you're house on it. My training is going too well for us to lose. I de-iced the car in in my birthday suit this morning because i can't afford to fill a bath tub with Ice like Ronaldo can.

Book the open top bus mate. Football is coming home!

{Ed001's Note - there is certainly plenty of benny's backside to bounce off.}

13 Dec 2017 12:12:12
Careful Ed. Mind games might fire Benny up! Plus if Ed002 gets involved in them, no offence, but he'll win.

He's already giving me sleepless nights over Salah. I just lay in bed at night screaming "GET OUT OF MY HEAD" as a Rodeo Clown just flashes in front of me every time i close my eyes, shoving Salah into the back of a Taxi with the license plate R3AL MADR1D.

He may be the clown, but he's the one laughing!

{Ed001's Note - enough of the chat, you should be out kicking a tennis ball against a wall for training!!!}

13 Dec 2017 12:26:19
I've been using a marble and a lampost Ed. Tennis balls and walls are for Amateurs.

{Ed001's Note - good lad, and remember to watch your diet. I want you to make sure to get fresh food. Especially remember to use fresh ice in your drinks, none of that frozen rubbish.}

13 Dec 2017 12:53:45
I've set some tomato and carrot traps in my garden. Hopefully I'll catch a few tonight. Nothing is fresher than wild fruit and veg.

People who use frozen ice make me sick. It's murder in my opinion. I've not touched ice since I saw a grainy video of a factory in a third world country on the PETI website showing how it is killed in the factories. They take it away from it's freezer when it is just an hour old and then cube it in an industrial blender. Disgusting.

{Ed001's Note - it is something the world could do with more awareness of.}

13 Dec 2017 14:47:33
Sorry mate. Will get around to replying to the email. I do think it's cute you guys think you have a chance though.

13 Dec 2017 15:00:19
Just to clarify, am I slicing the clearances into my own teams net or the oppositions?!

13 Dec 2017 15:20:50
The oppositions carragold! You better not score a hat trick of own goals. If you do, you can pay for everyone's petrol to get home.

Cheers Benny.

13 Dec 2017 15:47:53
Haha just checking. A hatrick of sliced clearances, it will be remembered in folk law like Dirk Kuyts hatrick of tap ins against Utd.

13 Dec 2017 16:04:36
Kuyt hat trick combined distance: 5 yards.
Carragold hat trick combined distance: 216 yards.

13 Dec 2017 06:41:13
If Coutinho is sold in January, Who will we bring in? I don't see us splashing money on Lemar ( though he is the closest to phil ) . Brandt and Meyer are pro in comparison! There are not too many players that can slot in quickly out there!

Believable1 Unbelievable4

13 Dec 2017 06:53:42
Lallana?

13 Dec 2017 06:58:41
Can’t see us entertaining it in January myself. We have too much to play for this season first. The summer is a different story though.

13 Dec 2017 06:59:19
I don't think he will be sold in Jan. There might be a deal struck in Jan for the summer but it makes absolutely no sense to sell in Jan. We are in the last 16 in the champions league against a team we should beat which takes us further into the competition. We still have top 4 or better and fa cup too so need all our players sorry world class players to stay. Lemar for me out of the 3 you mentioned. I don't know why people keeping saying max Meyer. For me he isn't good enough and would be a bench warmer and taking up a seat on that bench who I'd prefer to give to woodburn. Brandt I'll admit I haven't seen much of but he wants reassurances about a starting spot (who does he think he is ronaldo) . Getting lemar in Jan would be excellent as we could rest coutinho mane salah in premier league games before or after the champions league without impacting the quality on the pitch.

13 Dec 2017 08:20:59
He's made no secret that he wants to leave. I think we should ship him out in January for 100mil+ and get Lallana back in. If we can do a deal in January for a quality player then so be it. But right now we need to put the club first and have a strong winter, without any of these transfer distractions from Phil, and push for top 4.

13 Dec 2017 08:35:51
I'd much prefer us getting a CB over a replacement for Coutinho, sure get somebody in the summer but I don't think it's a massive priority in Jan, a CB is.

13 Dec 2017 08:43:17
I can't see any circumstance where we sell Coutinho in January without knowing 100% that we will be able to spend that money and get his replacement in. Whoever we intend to buy to replace Coutinho will come in the same window Coutinho is sold.

13 Dec 2017 09:26:10
PC will move in summer 2018.

13 Dec 2017 09:46:03
So you people think Lallana can replace Coutinho.

13 Dec 2017 09:50:09
For me Lemar, Carrasco, Draxler, Asensio or Kovacic.

13 Dec 2017 11:32:08
Familiar hunting ground i know, but I'm suprised we've not shown any interest in (or at least been speculatively linked with) Sofiane Boufal. He is way too good for Southampton and their bus parking tactics.

13 Dec 2017 12:00:25
Boufal plays well once in a blue moon. You can have it all, but how much do you want it?

13 Dec 2017 12:20:26
Boufal is a class player Jezza. It's hard to play well when your manager keeps picking Tadic and Redmond because they offer more defensively. I think Boufal has only played like 600 minutes of football this season. Considering he plays in a terrible Southampton team who play negative tactics he hasn't been bad at all. He's totally wasted in that team. Let's not forget that Coutinho was an inconsistent, under-utilised player before we signed him! Look how that turned out?

He'd be a great signing in my opinion. Plus he seems like the sort who just gets on with things and won't sulk about rotation. My only issue with him is the club we'd have to deal with. Southampton will play hard ball because of our previous indiscretions.

Anyway, we've shown no interest so it's all hypothetical regardless. I'm just surprised he's never mentioned by any fans or media outlets when discussing good attacking players. Just goes to show how many people judge players based on statistics, rather than watching them play. When Boufal plays, everything goes through him and Southampton look dangerous. When he doesn't, they scrape through games.

13 Dec 2017 12:50:22
If Coutinho leaves I’m fairly sure it’ll be in the summer and by then Keita will be coming in, we will have Lallana, Gini and Ox also able to play in midfield, let alone Milner, Hendo and Can (if he stays) who can play further forward. Also let’s not forget Woodburn who is a similar styled player IMO even if few years behind in development.

I do think Coutinho will be missed and I really don’t mind if we get in Lemar who looks useful, but with the frontline that we have, we will be fine with Lallana, Keita, Ox and Gini behind them.

The bigger problem IMO is if Can leaves. He brings something to the base of midfield (youth, physicality and increasingly discipline and control) and I’d really like to spend a good amount or even all of Coutinhos transfer fee (if he leaves) on a top deep midfielder of the likes of Alonso if such a thing exists! It would be the trigger to transform our side I feel, and Hendo will be more effective in the box to box role.

{Ed002's Note - And you have forgotten Grujic - although I suspect he might move on permanently at some point.}

13 Dec 2017 13:02:28
He’s not a class player he’s a classy player. In glimpses he’s got it all as I said originally, everything apart from the desire, workrate and mentality to do it consistently and then become a class player. He can light up a game, he can score great goals etc. But he’s lazy so he’s not. Form is temporary class is permanent Boufal’s form fluctuates in a game let along 5/ 6 games, half a season, a season to be described as class. He’s saints shaquiri, zaha, Townsend, bolase, Gaston Ramirez and alike.

13 Dec 2017 13:47:08
I'll agree to disagree Jezza. Every time I've seen him he has always tried to get on the ball and make things happen. He's an excellent advanced playmaker, but in Southampton they don't need that kind of player because they play direct football and don't get much possession. For me, he has shown he has the ability to play in a much better side. On the odd occasion Southampton play well, Boufal is at the centre of everything. He reminds me a bit of a David Silva type player (miles off Silva's level right now though) . What i mean is that he isn't always the one to play the killer pass or score the goal, but he is the brain behind every good attack. Southampton have played well once this season and it was in one of only a handful of games Boufal has started in.

I'm not suggesting he's the best option for us, but I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep if we replaced Coutinho with him! He is anything but lazy. Just because he doesn't constantly get involved defensively doesn't make him lazy. It takes an incredible amount of work rate to constantly stay in space. Peter Crouch used to average over 10km a game, and most of it was just side stepping from left to right across the pitch, trying to lose his marker. Boufal isn't in the team to defend or get stuck in. He is the link man and it's crucial for him to make himself available to retain possession when it is won. He can't do that if he is touch tight to a player he was just man marking.

I appreciate and respect your opinion though. He is unproven in a top team to be fair. For me though, your comments have just re-affirmed my opinion that he needs to leave Southampton for a team who play football so he can finally show his quality alongside players on his wavelength (who also want to play the game the beautiful way) . Southampton are stifling his career. He's only just turned 24 so if he leaves now he can still get back on track.

13 Dec 2017 18:20:04
What if Barcelona spend budget on Griezmann?

Premier League Preview Wednesday 13th December 2017

{Ed's Note - we have posted a new article entitled, Premier League Preview Wednesday 13th December 2017

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Dec 2017 08:23:19
Really enjoyed that one Ed.

I think Rafa might have shot himself in the foot. He has spent the last 8 weeks moaning before and after every game about how his squad isn't good enough and how he needed more money/ signings etc.

Now this may be a naive view point, but could you imagine being a player like Ritchie, Perez, Atsu, Shelvey, Gayle etc who loves to attack, but you sacrifice your natural game because you believe in your managers system and want what's best for the team? Once you've put yourself in their shoes, now imagine the man who you are making those sacrifices for very publically suggests you are not good enough and should've been replaced if money was there. Do you still want to give up your natural game to make his system work? It is the wrong attitude as you should work harder to prove them wrong. I know i didn't though. When my old boss kept calling me out individually in front of my co-workers every morning i just packed my bags and changed jobs, then he started begging me not to leave and throwing pay rises and benefits at me. It's toxic working for someone who has no respect for you though, so i left anyway. Respect is mutual and when you don't feel appreciated it can affect your performance levels in any walk of life.

Their form has fallen off a cliff since Rafa started moaning. He is a great tactician, but i think like Mourinho, he needs to change his management style. It is not good management to openly criticise the people below you constantly. Maybe once to spark a reaction, but every week? Rafa needs to suck it up and get on with it. He has a better squad than Brighton, Huddersfield, Swansea, Crystal Palace and Stoke at the very least. So if he just get's on with it in the mean time Newcastle will be safe.

I love Rafa, but his public meltdown did him no favours when he was at Liverpool, and they're doing him no favours now.

13 Dec 2017 08:46:05
MK - by the same token, if you were one of those players wouldn't you be desperate for him to get the naturally defensive players in to allow you to play in a way you're comfortable with? Right now they are all trying to do something they aren't suited for and it's making them look dreadful. If I was them, I'd rather less game time but more opportunity to show what I can do rather than more game time doing something I'm unlikely to ever look like more than a lower division player doing. Not saying you're wrong, just a flipside - he might have made it very clear to all of them that he's talking about players that will release them to do their natural jobs.

13 Dec 2017 09:25:32
A great read. A must win for us today, I think we will beat them but it's not going to be as easy as some may think. They're in terrible form West Brom but if they was going to change things around guaranteed it'd be against us! just our luck. We need to be ready for whatever they have. A big problem I think we have is we are so complacent at times against the 'smaller' teams. They should be respected like any other team, top of the table or bottom, they have plenty of time to turn things around.

13 Dec 2017 09:55:25
True hjikle, but he keeps using the word "quality" which to me implies he thinks those he has jack that trait. I just feel as though his moaning has been detrimental. Not only could it possibly offend the Newcastle players, but it also gives them an excuse.

Why did you lose? "Oh, it's not our fault. It is the owner not spending enough money".

Rafa may well think these things, but airing your dirty laundry in public is suicidal. You can privately want to replace players, but making it public is a gamble. Some will react positively, but in the modern game, most won't. If I'm honest (as a 23 year old) my generation are generally stubborn and easily offended, especially when we're embarrassed by someone in front of others! Modern day managers just need to accept that social shift in attitude and adapt to it. Young people nowadays a generally still behaving like teenagers in their mid 20's. Just look at the England Cricket team if you want a case study! Part of being a good manager in any industry is knowing your employee's personalities though and treating them in a way which maximises their performance.

Klopp from day one has backed all of his players vehemently in the public eye, and just worked on the training ground to get the best out of them. It has turned previously awful players such as Mignolet, Milner, Moreno, Can, Lovren and Lallana into relatively decent players or at the very least, average players. Hence why we can now compete for the Champions League with half the starting line-up still being the same as the team Rodgers had in mid table. Rodgers always blamed the players when things went wrong and lost the dressing room because of it.

Man management is a massive part of being a successful football manager nowadays. There is a fine line between being too nice (Bilic, Wenger), getting the critical but respectful balance right (Guardiola, Dyche, Pochettino), and being overly critical (Rafa, Mourinho) . It is very hard to find a middle ground and you may have to treat some players differently.

That is why you see some managers getting the absolute most from their resources, and others like Mourinho spending the second most money in Europe and still losing to Huddersfield and failing to get anywhere near to the top of their league (or even play good football) . He's not only looking like losing his dressing room, but also the stands because of it.

You can be a great tactician and spend all the money in the world, but if the people below you don't respect you then they will make you look bad knowing full well you will carry the blame. That is sadly the reality of modern football, and modern society. If Rafa can't accept that, Newcastle will go down.

13 Dec 2017 10:49:16
You have a point there I guess - especially with the excuse part. Footballers seem to loose their drive very easily, you never want to give them excuses before playing because them seem to become self-for filling prophecies more often then not. It'll be very interesting to see how that plays out for Rafa - at the start of the season I was hoping that someone like Chirivella or Grujic who are trying to learn some positional dicipline in the defensive roles would go on loan to Newcastle but I'm glad they haven't now.

13 Dec 2017 13:54:44
Been lurking for years and years, finally decided to register to applaud MK Scouser for his exquisite posts, not that I always agree with his points. And of course all hail to the mighty Eds.

13 Dec 2017 15:44:20
Cheers Molby Man! Look forward to seeing more of you on here now you're registered!

13 Dec 2017 16:29:00
Hope to pop in with a quick remark now and then. As for Rafa, you got to love him, no matter what, even if he joined United, but thankfully that won't happen.

13 Dec 2017 17:02:23
I can see were Rafa is coming from, and the lack of transfer funds and a takeover could mean the end of Rafa at Newcastle .

13 Dec 2017 17:24:20
Good to see a Molby fan here! What a player he was! ❤️❤️.

13 Dec 2017 18:21:03
Rafa should shut up and learn a thing or 2 from Sean Dyche.

12 Dec 2017 22:36:31
Ed001 I couldn't find a reference to him so wondering if you could do a profile on Gaetano Scirea. Possibly my favourite Italian defender.

{Ed001's Note - I have added him to the list for you.}

13 Dec 2017 01:08:58
So apparently, Real madrid are looking to bring Salah in January to salvage their season? I wonder why they can't do so with their current squad, specially when you have the likes of Ronaldo, Ramos and Asensio.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

13 Dec 2017 02:10:41
Cos super Salah is better than all of them 😝.

13 Dec 2017 02:20:19
Just rumours, it's that time of year again. I'm not going anywhere, I promise! not yet anyway :)

13 Dec 2017 12:21:09
Silly season, plus given that Salah is in top form and only just signed a long contract, it would take stupid money, which Madrid probably want for a Galactico target like Hazard and the cast off they are alleged to have offered in part exchange is not even worth considering (Lucas Vazquez, who is a very poor winger in comparison) .
