Huntelaar is second top scorer in germany this season, so no chance

You are right, since when did we sign strikers who score goals?

ed im not saying were interested in him bu what do u make of xhaka for basel {Ed002's Note - He seems a decent player.}

Hey eds, I posted few nights back in regards to Kevin Strootman and his price, just a thanks for responding. plus @kopwatch on twitter say that Comolli has opened up talks with Internacional in regards to Leandro Damiao, have you caught wind of anything similar?

{Ed002's Note - No, sorry. I don't see him moving before perhaps January 2013.}

13 Dec 2011 23:08:40
Apparently Chelsea would take 20m in January for Torres just wondering what you would think of this and if it would be 20m well spent? Cheers

Complete waste of 20m - much better strikers out there for that money

Hiya Ed

To me your football knowledge is top notch and you see things people like myself would miss. I would like to hear your thoughts on whether we are lacking a quality striker or if our players needs to work more on finishing or something.
What I am trying to say is, do you think our goal problem be rectified without adding a new striker?

Cape Town Red {Ed001's Note - it is mostly confidence from what I see, the longer it goes on, the more confidence ebbs away and the worse the problem gets. The difficulty is that a new striker might also get off to a bad start and even more confidence leeches out of the team. So it is a difficult one, whichever choice is made is going to be a big gamble. Personally, I would say a striker joining might just provide the boost to break us out of the slump, but he needs to come in and do well quickly.}

Aah Thanks so much Ed! Ed based on your accurate assessment, wouldnt the best solution be to loan a Top Quality striker/finisher so if he turns out to be bad then he goes back straight after the loan and vise versa if he is good {Ed001's Note - that is one possible solution, it is not the one I would choose personally. I would go out and buy the best striker I could find for the club, loans are too short term. They leave you searching all over again in the summer and it could put you right back to square one next season.}

But as you have said many times before, we do not have the money to waste as the club is working at a loss and would be in a better position should we get Champions League. Loan a quality striker/finisher until summer(low cost) then in summer buy one after getting Champions League. Ed if you could pass this info to the powers that be please do so

question for ed001 if possible.

If He were willing to come back do you think Torres would be welcome back by management/players? I know it isnt going to happen but I'm curious as to the mentality inside melwood.

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - it would depend on him, his attitude could make or break it. So it is impossible to say, as I have no idea how he would be.}

How was he as he left? Was it player power from certain senior members that alienated him or was he just a loner to begin with?

Rewflo {Ed001's Note - he was a loner anyway, he never tried to get involved, he was the same at Atletico by all accounts.}

Welcome back fernando, i can see it happening. sold for £50m, bought back for £20m. he was in his element at anfield , unlike among the london plastics. id take him back at the drop of a hat

Liam {Ed002's Note - I found a solution to your feeling the need to be abusive problem. You can thank me later - oh no you can't.}

Haha well done ed. Quality banter.

Danny

Top quality humour Ed002 - that has brightened my otherwise painful morning (here at work in Oz).

You can either walk with us or against us.

I don't know why so many people are calling for Torres back. It's ludicrous.

He turned his back on us, and we showed him the door. There is no walking back to us when you have betrayed us. People are welcomed back when they left with respect (Fowler, Bellamy, Kenny [as manager]). The utter disrespect that he showed to us meant that he does not deserve to play for our proud club ever again. It should be a privilege to pull on that red jersey.

To speak appropriately, and to negate any hopes you hold, he crossed the bridge and burnt it when he got the other side.

We have Suarez now, who will prove just as deadly as the prime Torres. Our Torres.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a forgiving man, and I don't resent him. He wanted silverware, not growing younger but only growing more impatient, understandable enough, but I would not accept him back. I don't take any solace or delight with seeing our ex-hero rot in his dismal form, but I think he is the victim of his own attack. I will always appreciate what he gave to us, and I'll stand to give him my respect as an opposing player, but this is the fate he chose.

Yes, you can sit and wonder about how things would have worked out if he had been patient and worked with Kenny. He could have regained form and the two could have been electric, but then we wouldn't have Carroll. (which is a separate controversy).

Those possibilities are okay if it helps you get through the day, but in reality we must just walk on without him. What's done is done, and there is no going back. The relationship is unfixable and irreversible now.

Deal with it.

Mr Controversy.

I dont think that he will be quite as clinical as Torres in front of goal but he is far more creative. Different kinds of players if you ask me.

Rewflo

Torres is not clinical anymore

13 Dec 2011 22:07:14
Carroll is immature not lazy, he lacks confidence, he likes the idea of being Liverpool's No.9 but Liverpool fans expect goals from their No. 9 and lots of them. Fans will need to be patient Carroll needs time to adapt, knuckle down and mature as both a player and a man. It perhaps would have been easier for him to slot in to an already fully developed side but the fact is KK and SC are still learning how the players tick and players are still learning from each other and how to play as a team. Suarez has slotted in perfectly up front as he is of supreme quality and alot more experienced and has matured as both a player and a man. We need to leave Carroll alone and let him get on with it and prove himself when given the chances. In the interim we should be shrewed in the Jan market and see if we can pick up an experienced striker on loan or for less than £20m that can slot in up front straight away, someone who Andy can learn from and that will put away the many chances that we create. They dont need to be top bracket David Villa or Higuian, they just need to know where the back of the net is. Yes we have Bellars but he wont play every game and he's more of an attacking winger. I would like to see Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, I feel he would fit in straight away in front of Suarez, he's not everyone's cup of tea but he is an accomplished striker who knows exactly how to finish, even half chances. We could go for Soldado but he wil cost near £30m. For me if we could get him in for less than £20m, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar would be the way to go.

Actually going on recent form he may not go for less than £25m

Solgado could be a realistic signing, in the summer. The striker I would like to sign, is Mario Gomez. Probably a pipe dream but would be a very good signing and just what we need, another quality striker.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

I honestly think Carroll would benefit from a bit of guidance from Didier Drogba. I see a lot of parallels
a) the strength and muscle that hinders speed b) the ability to shoot from long distance with precision and power c) the overwhelming price tag on the shoulders.
Drogba proved everybody wrong. He didn't hit the ground running, people started questioning his £24m price tag but he had the mental strength to deal with it and justify it.

Not dissimilar players. Target men, Didier is more skillful admittedly - is a transfer that out of the question?
Not any more so than half of the ridiculous suggestions on here. Contract running out, first team places depleting...

Mr Controversy

hope all is well people

Anyway ive seen recently this 'returning torres' has popped up a few times and its got me thinking about it. How i feel about it is with respect to making-amends.. sure he has bridges to build at LFC, and fans to apologise to and what not, but I know a way in which he could win a lot of people over easily, scoring a hatrick. If he scored goals, he'd be forgiven quick. A Suarez/Torres partnership would smash a Suarez/Carroll (going by my opinion of their style of play ;-)).. Just think how good Suarez and Kuyt link up.. and with no disrespect meant to Kuyt, hes a passionate player - but no Torres in front of goal...

anyway its not going to happen anyway but hypothetically speaking of course...

what do you think?
If we still had Torres or he returned, what would be our best strike force?
Tiz YNWA =D

It would still be:
Bellamy Suarez maxi
Or
Suarez Carroll
With Torres warming our bench.

MIKEY

Depends on which Torres we get back. I genuinely think he would perform better if he came back and so I think:

Suarez Torres
Carroll

would be perfect strike force.

hi eds just want to no about carrol why is he not being played surely the more he plays the better he will get has kenny lost faith? and do you think he will be sold in the summer? {Ed002's Note - We can't answer any of those questions without speculating.}

Kenny is a tactical man.

I think he is giving him cold shoulder to up his game. Leaving him on the bench should frustrate Carroll, and make him want to prove everyone wrong.

Kenny is trying to spark a similar fire Carroll had for Newcastle for us because you can't be a successful centre forward if your heart isn't in it. You've got to want to win those headers, or else you wont win them. You've got to get physical, otherwise you'll evidentially get played out of the game.

I think Carroll has been half-hearted at times, maybe because he misses playing for Newcastle, maybe because he regrets the move, maybe because he doesn't feel he's fitting in. It's weird I sometimes feel bad for tearing him away from his beloved team, but at the same time, I know he is such a good player and could do so well if he just gave it the same determination he did at Newcastle.

I think if he goes back into a game, starts for the first time in a while, he will have a point to prove, and maybe then we'll see this guys potential. If he is a little frustrated, he will get those decisive headers in, create that space for himself, and bag some goals. Everyone always slates his sub-standard work ethic, well we are the 12th man, let's get behind him and give him reason to put his heart on his sleeve and play with passion.

We are yet to see Carroll's devotion to our club, and maybe that will spark if we just give him a bit more support. Make him feel wanted. Geordies all credit to them are unbelievable supporters, thick and thin types, and we need to show him we can emulate that.

Our players perform best when they mean it. Gerrard, Carra, Dalglish are perfect modern day examples. Carroll could be monumental for our club, he just needs some faith from us.

Mr Controversy

Good post, but I don't agree with the 'newcastle thick and thin' bit... I will always hold an image in my head of fans directing foul abuse at Sam Allardyce when he was manager.. I'd say they are very passionate though. Never the less, good post pal

Myk {Ed001's Note - do people not remember how they could barely get 6000 before the arrival of Keegan?}

I am good friends with Grant McCann mate, he had the same problems. He didn't make the cut with West Ham, was moved on to Cheltenham. As you can expect, he was feeling short on confidence and disappointed, of not making it at West Ham. But he told me/us he'll get the head down and work twice as hard, to be the best he can be. He was a fantastic player for Cheltenham which proceeded into move to a bigger club (Barsnley). Now he has never looked back and got what he deserved, because of his ability, hard graft and most importantly he's very strong mentally.

Now he's the Peterborough captain and has been a very good servant, for club and country. Andy needs to keep faith in his own ability, like you and Grant have. If he keeps working hard and ignores all the negative press, especially about his price tag, he should be ok.

Surely ed kenny and comolli r looking at a world class striker like doumbia, welliton, cavani. We are creating the chances but we need a finisher someone who will get 20 goals a season just look at r results loads of draws and r biggest win was 3-1 against bolton. We need a quality striker if we want to get champions league football {Ed002's Note - If Champions League football is achieved in the summer it will be a different market to go shopping in. Liverpool do not have the 50M euro Cavani would cost now. Why do the Eds have to say the same things over and over again?}

Because most believe Liverpool have the cash reserves to match Citeh no matter what anyone may say?

Do you really want to see the club put into huge debt like the previous owners Bobbinred

Seriously world class is stretching it a bit far mate
let say they are good strikers who have proven themselves in leagues that are not of the standard of premier league

13 Dec 2011 21:07:35
Ed, do you think that there will be additions in January? I have to say, I think it's a matter of the team growing together and gaining more chemistry as to how we will see an improvement. {Ed002's Note - Yes. As I have said all along.}

13 Dec 2011 21:09:31
There seem to be a few rumblings about our lack of superstars and the need to sign some big name players on wages to match.

LFC was not built on a team of superstars, we have always had a group of strong performing honest pros with a few outstanding talents such as the King.

We are not too far away from this again. Typically players were allowed to develop in the reserves for a couple of years and introduces into the team slowly. Now we want instant success from our signings e.g. Carroll and Henderson.

The new owners and management team have only had two transfer windows. There is no doubting the team is stronger and more enjoyable to watch. I would like a few more points and some more goals but we are sitting nicely for a run of wins in the new year so 'walk on with hope in your heart'.

RedKev

Mcmanaman once said Liverpool were just a feeder club (after he left) and its easy to see why when you consider how many players we turn into world class stars and then sell.

Torres
Alonso
Mascherano
Keegan
Owen
Mcmanaman
Fowler

Rubbish

Torres - wanted to leave and pursue greener pastures at another club only chelsea showed any interest and offered to double his wages

Alonso - was practically forced out by mad Rafa

Mascherano - His family could not settle in England

Keegan - wanted to be european superatar

Owen - thought he was better than what he was and found that out and ruined his career

Mcmanaman - Who knows what went on with him?

Fowler - never wanted to leave Liverpool forced out again by a mad manager, still a liverpool supporter

Liverpool are not a feeder club....and just to
punch a few holes into your post

1, Torres wanted to go, and for £50m i would of carried him on my back to London...

2 Keegan wanted a chance to play abroad
so we sold him for £500,000 to Hamburg
Bought The King For £440,000, which has got to be the clubs greatest transfer

3, Mascherano wanted to leave so much so he refused to play

4, Mcmananan Left on a Bosman

5.Fowler had a falling out with phil Thompson Read Thompsons Book

6, Owen sold to raise transfer funds

7 Alonso was a massive mistake by Rafa

Deano95

I thought Owen wanted to leave Deano? And the best transfer we ever did in my opinion, was getting someone to take Pouslon and Intandje, off our hands.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Firstly, I was paraphrasing mcmanaman. Its not my opinion, although I can see some slight truth to his words.

I was only pointing out that we sell world class players at their peak quite often. The reasons why are irrelevant, You hardly ever see Barca or Madrid or Milan selling their best players at their peak.

The truth is every player has a price, Milan were willing to sell Kaka to City but he refused to go, so they sold him to Real,
Barcelona sold both Figo and Laudrup to
Real Madrid, and not that long ago United let Ronaldo go to a club Ferguson said he wouldnt sell a virus to, as ive said
its all about the money and the right price

Deano95

Kaka (Ac Milan)

Yaya Toure, Maradona (Barca)

Sneijder, Robben, Van Dar Vart (Real Madrid)

Even these clubs will sell their best players if need be.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

See your point Blair but Sneijder, Robben and Van Der Vaart were all sold when they were seriously underperforming. Kaka is fair enough.

Sneijder and Robben were fantastic for Real, at the time mate as was Toure for Barca. I think we both agree, any club will sell any of their players, if the price is right.

A perfect example, Slur Alex Ferguson

"I wouldn't sell that lot a virus" when talking about Ronanldo, going to to Real Madrid.

What Slur Alex meant was

"I wouldn't sell that lot a virus, for no less than 80 mill"

Slur Alex was spot on, Ronaldo is a 'Virus'

Just a quick thought. I'm far from a Carroll hater but think we should offer Chelsea £15m + whatever we can get for Carroll to bring Torres home.

Still a Torres fan.

Why would chelsea want carroll? they wouldn't.

Danny

I don't like the word carroll hater. i personally don't like carroll style of playing. in my eyes he is a bit lazy. so far only one match he is very active. but i don't hate him.

I like Torres but think his ego will clash. He has bridges to build with fans, players, coaches and management before he could.
His ego alone needs a seperate coach.
Then there's the issue of number 1 striker. For me Suarez is our no1 first choice and I'm sure he would like to be no2 behind Torres. On the same note I'm sure Torres wouldn't want to be no2.

What about Torres wages? I'm sure he wouldnt want a pay cut and I'm sure Liverpool don't want to pay stupid amounts on a player who is described as a sick note and who also can't hit a barn door from 6 feet right now.

My option would be either trust Carroll to come good or try and get D Villa on a sneaky loan spell to the end of the season.

I'm sure ED will give you his own views though

What in God's name is a "sneaky loan spell"?

Is 'sneaky' meant to imply that nobody will notice? Well, I assure you that people will notice is David Villa starts playing for Liverpool?

Or are you suggesting we "sneak" David Villa on a plane to England without Barcelona knowing...?

I just don't get it.

Danny what are you on about? Did you actually read the post? I said what ever we can get for Carrol. So if we sold him for £15m the Torres fee would be £30m.

As for his wages. If he wanted to cut his loses and end his Chelsea misery he'd have to take a wage cut.

To be fair it would be a massive step to winning the fans etc back over if he took a wage cut to come back and issued an apology.

Why don't you just move on people, Torres did, but you still dreaming of second coming, just remember the exciting times he gave us and move on, he gave his best years to Liverpool and now he is just cashing on those years at chelsea good luck to him, we now have Suarez who can make things happen on his own, let's cheer him and the rest of the lads, go on Liverpool.

Yes I know why Dale Jennings never made grade at LIverpool - he got in with the wrong crowd when he was with the reds and despite warnings he kept getting into trouble outside of football ,Tranmere snapped him up but before the start of last season they were going to release him because he was late showing up for training but someone mist of switched the lights on for him because when pre season started 2010/2011 he was a different fella and it showed hope this helps

I would like to talk about Me, Carroll and confidence.

I was playing in a division 4 team for a long time and playing well. I got scouted for a division 2 team after 2 years of playing for the division 4 team. I started off really poorly, everyone was getting on my back, team mates, even the coach was having a pop. I barely played too, was a bench warmer for most of the season. My touch was poor, I lost my pace, I kept giving the ball away with my passes. I thought before I played for them I wasnt good enough for them, and it showed.

It took me over a year to get back into form, and finally get my pace and touch back. Im finally part of the team, and playing regularly... Looking good for Division 1 right now.

I honestly believe the same is happening to Carroll right now. The pressure is on him to prove his worth, and he has no confidence. I think in time he will gel and improve his touch and pace because he has shown it at Newcastle.

Mind sharing your ID poster? Im sure I'm not the only one curious.

To the tune of Rudolph the red nosed reindeer.

Fergie the red-nosed gaffer
Had a very shiny nose
And if you ever saw it
You would even say it's gross
All of the other gaffers
Used to laugh and call him names
Cos they knew poor old fergie
Couldn't win the Basel game

Then 1 foggy Mersey day
Kenny Dalglish said
Fergie though your nose is bright
5 CL titles is out of sight

Then all the gaffers chimed in
As they shouted out with glee
Fergie the red nosed gaffer
Man U still only has three!

But it was fun writing this. Haha

For the Greatest Moaners,
Why people always slating Caroll. I think he is young and will learn his trade in our passing game.
Yes, he is not the quickest. Yes, he is little bit lazy. He had poor touch. And, this aspects can be improved with time.
How many teams has been playing Complete passing Football in England. Expect Arsenal all the teams wasn't playing complete Passing system with almost All the goals scored with Foot. Most of the teams with Good wingers, who hit the touch line and whip in the cross to the Striker who head it home. Thats a perfect strategy for the Players like Caroll. It is not his mistake to not recieved clear cut chances to Head the ball home. It is not his mistake that players like Carra who hoofs the ball over Caroll's head. It is a poor tactics employed by Coach. Just compare how many goals Suarez scored in Premier league games in which he started and same with Caroll.
Slates was welcomed.

Hi Ed's and Red's

A good friend of mine was over at the Chelsea v City game last night (im from Co Down)and he told me today that a lot of the talk pre match in the pubs etc was that Torres will either end up back at Liverpool on loan or one of the Milan teams..just thought i'd pass it on

atlfc70

Inter is possible, AC is not. They have never shown any interest in Torres.

Rewflo

Hope not. I don't want him bringing Liverpool down an I am more than happy watching his miserable mug warm the chelsea bench.

MIKEY

Especially if the Tevez going to AC rumours are true Rewflo mate. Then why would they want or need Torres? If he goes anywhere, I think Malaga could be his best option, IF they are even interested.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

They are not as confident in Milan about signing Tevez. That pesky non-eu quota is stil hampering it but there is still some time for them to clear off yepes and/or Pato.

Rewflo

Just my personal opinion here but I think the most likely destinations are :

1. Inter (Would depend on someone being moved on)
2. Atletico (Loan to buy)
3. Malaga (would be a tough sell but possible)

Rewflo

When I heard the Tevez to AC rumours, Rewflo mate. That's the 1st thing that came into my head, Pato could be used as a makeweight to sign Tevez.

What's a cheeky bid?

So I'm an "idiot, for stating what's more or less accepted as common knowledge. Smh.

Look, if you wanna kid yourselves "believing" that Adam, Carroll, Downing and Henderson was the best we could have reasonably done, by all means, be my guest.
Just don't expect and demand that I follow suit.

I'd like to have regard to the events of last January, especially Torres and Carroll.

I believe that Torres was unfairly cast in a bad light and that our Geordie number09 was a panic buy.

It had been, albeit unconfirmed, common knowledge that Torres wanted out of Anfield.
It had been communicated to the club that if an offer was made for him, he wished it considered.

He was expectant of a Chelsea bid. Comolli and the club, I wager, were well alive to this fact... long before Chelsea put in their first bid.

In short, Dalglish and Comolli knew of the probability that Torres may hand in TR, long bafore it actually happened.

So why then wasn't a deal for a PROPER direct replacement in place?
It wasn't four days to the D-day that Fernando's intentions were known.
Yet, it was only in the last day of the window that efforts were made.

Panic had snuck in. No plan, no coherence. Haste all over the place.
The function: Andy Carroll... to the shock of everyone, including the LFC fans themselves.

The shock for some of us hadn't so much to do with the monetary figure as the players suitability, or lack thereof.
Kenny's return had seen a return to the fast, free-flowing pass and move footy that made this team such a force in decades gone by.

Poor footwork, non-existent mobility, abysmal off-the-ball play and substandard passing, Carroll's anything by a passer and a mover.
Why on earth would Dalglish sign a player who'd be more a hindrance than anything else?

There was lots of astonishment at this signing, which was no coincidence.
If Kenny genuinely believed in Carroll's ability (I doubt he did), biggest error of judgment in his whole managerial career, and one of the biggest in modern football.

However, I don't believe the above was the case. It was a panic buy to perhaps keep the morale up, appease the Blairs, Buzzers.

In actual fact, they'd buggered up royally by failing to be proactive in the Torres issue.
Comolli and Dalglish knew there was a reasonably high chance our most prolific number09 in many a year would bolt.
Yet, inexplicably, a deal for a PROPER direct replacement wasn't put in place in earnest.
Poor Fernando Torres was made to look like this selfish traitor who'd left us out to dry when in fact the he'd made his intentions clear long ago.

Failure to plan ahead, be proactive and decisive in January '11 is why we are fraught with this conundrum that is Andy Carroll.

Melville
Ps: interesting remarks by Torres that the fans (LFC) don't know the full story.

Melville you are talking rollocks, I am not a Carroll fan, far from it, but Kenny was/ is and Liverpool were already planning to bid for him in the summer. The Torres move only hastened the process. Kenny thought/ thinks he can be a modern day Toshack and that is what he will try to coach him to be. As for your assumption that we should have bought a proper replacement I would agree but if you are going to suggest that then let's hear your options.
If you would take Rafa over Kenny then you really know nothing

Chris in Tamworth

Give him at least until the end of the season Melville, then at least he has had one full season.

Ed001 has made mention that Carroll is on a special training scheme which leaves him a little drained for matches until his body gets used to it. Plus it must be difficult to get good form when you dont play. With Luis being out I'm sure we will see some better form from him, Ill happily accept your I told you so's afterwards if he doesnt.

As for the other players, Adam has been a good buy, Henderson has improved every week. The only one I really agree with is downing, I never saw what he offered before we signed him and cant really see it now.

Rewflo

I think you've spelled Neville wrong Gary.

Ps.

If you don't think that Adam was a good buy at 6.8 mill Melville mate, then your a very hard man to please. Bring back Poulson, Aqualani, Diao, Biscan, eh mate?

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Agreed Blair, Aqua cost almost 3 times as much and failed, Poulsen was almost the same price.

Also ask any united fan if they wished they had adam to play in the centre, I'm sure that they will say yes.

I can understand your Carroll fears Melville, that is common knowledge. My post/concerns was your unfair criticism, of Jordan. Your criticism of Hendo at the start of the season, could have been warranted, but now? Carra was slated when younger by fans, he has been and still is a class defender. Lucas has followed the same path as Carra and is now being appreciated. Henderson I suspect will make people eat their words, may take some time but he has all the natural talent to grow into an excellent player. Patience in the game is a rarity these days, Kenny is building a team, style, and spirit that is a work in progress. I for one can see the system and style coming together, Kenny and the backroom staff deserve support as do the players. Rather have a dynasty for years to come than brief flirtation with glory. We can then go on and compete and win titles again, possibly next season if the faith is retained by the genuine supporters.

EVO Y.N.W.A

Lucas is immense to the team now. Henderson inproves with every game. Enrique is proving to be a class buy. Suarez? What can you say other than Suarez. Carroll will improve. Downing I must express my disappoint ment in. Coates looks a class act (what we have seen of him) Shelvey played very well the other day - especially when you consider he has been thrown in at the last minute. Then there are the likes of Flanagan etc. I feel better about the future than I have for several years. RED LENIN

is there a chance of us signing a striker or a winger and who ? {Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

13 Dec 2011 17:59:53
hey ed, not posted in a long time. was loooking at the league table over the weekend and one thing is clear, we arent scoring enough goals. our goals against is pretty similar to the teams above. but our goals for are about 15 short. i no we've hit the woodwork alot but surely king kenny and steve clarke are well aware of the situation and will look to bring in another striker who will give us an extra push second half of the season. i thought we may have had a look at anelka as a short term solution, but he is off to china on mega bucks. do you think the unhappy david villa may be looked at?
i also think alex wud be a great buy if he was to cost arond 5m.... his free kicks alone are worth that imo. again this is a solution for the now not the future, it gives coates time to develop. and could see a good partnership with agger.
i dont see a replacement for lucas being looked at to much, as i reckon gerrard will play that role when he's back fit after xmas. henderson will fill in while spearing is suspended.
ed your thoughts on villa and alex wud be great, sorry if youve answerd these questions already.

matt27 {Ed002's Note - Villa is 30 and would cost £30M plus will little or no resale value. If FSG sanctioned that deal it means all policy is out of the window. Seems unlikely to me but not impossible. Alex wanst a deal to take him to 32 with first team football and a return to Brazil. Liverpool probably cannot offer that.}

Do you think a striker will be brought in the window or not? im not carroll's biggest fan, he looks awfull at the moment, but the 35m we paid means he will be given time, and rightly so, he has the attributes its whether he has the attitude. i just think we are in danger of loosing touch with the teams above if we dont put away our chances. our stats are great, chances, corners etc but a lack of goals.
suarez is fantastic, but he plays at such a high tempo, and hes had a long year with little rest over the summer just gone he might just start to slow down a little the last 3rd of the season.

matt 27 {Ed002's Note - I think a striker may come in.}

I cant think of any likely names for striker though. Availability of strikers who are :

a: Available to buy

and

B: Willing to move to a team with no european football

and

C: good enough

is pretty scace at present so I would not be surprised if nobody signed unless someone left. Just my opinion though.

Downing and Carroll are not playing well Melville, we can't deny that. But to say Henderson isn't playing well, shows you know absolutely h*ck all about football whatsoever. The kid has came on leaps and bounds in the past few weeks and is starting to justify his price tag.

Henderson (16.8 mill)
Carricks (19 mill)

Hendo's work rate is excellent, the guy has a lot of patience and a has an eagerness to learn and improve his football. I'm relishing watching him play in the next few seasons because he'll live up to his price tag and even more. definitely one to watch. I'm just impressed!

i do not understand liverpool's transfer policy: pay a lot of money on mediocre players (carroll, downing, henderson) = approx. 80 million. euros) on that money could buy very good players: hulk = 35 mill. diego = 15 million, cavani = 30 mil. this was the team that leads the big four; reina- jhonson-agger-skartel-enrique lucas- gerrard-diego( adam) hulk-cavani-suarez. agree - diseagree {Ed002's Note - You may have done better to start by saying "I do not understand how the transfer system works - in Fantasy Manager 2010 it is easy".}

Ha amzing Ed, should just ban the cluless idiots.

KT!

Hulk would cost more like 40m and I know that De Laurentis is only willing to do business for Cavani for around 45m so we could not have afforded those players on the current budget. Add to that we could not offer champs league football so none of them would be willing to come to us.

Rewflo

Well, let's see, go into the football industry, get several decades of experience behind your name, learn some economics and consider the little wonder called "weekly wages".
after that, you may understand Liverpool's transfer strategy well enough to criticize it!

Drigan

People need to realise that for a transfer to happen it requirea the seller, the buyer and the player to all agree. Yes we'd all love Cavani and Hulk but if they don't want to play for liverpool whether it be lack of champions league or is happy where he is the there is little we can do.

Then again the club that owns the player need to want to sell and if they don't want to sell Liverpool would have to pay a extortion of the price to secure the player.

Yes we paid over the price for Downing, Henderson and Carroll but it's not my money and if the club has faith with the players then so do I -McMenemy

What your forgetting is that our wage bill has slimmed right down and these players are young

What youre forgetting is that with 80-90m being spent on two forwards how would we have been able to buy a cm a lb and rw as well?

At best (if they wanted to come) we could afford one of Cavani or Hulk and still be able to fill the other gaps in our squad. Overall I dont think Kenny has done badly. Our squad has improved in depth.

Regardless what you think of him, Rafa, with those funds, would of done a far better job.
All bar one of Rafa's signings costing over £15m were class.

I bet 100% with my life that if Rafa was at the helm, considerable Spanish and South American talent would of been sought, and likely acquired.

When Kenny got permanently appointed, I immediately had concerns as to the direction player recruitment would take.
Britain aside, the man's clout is rather inextensive.

This would inevitably see him leaning towards British players, what he knows most and just keep it safe.

Now I'm not saying Brits are all pants, no.
There are very good Brits. Problem's that most of the good ones are already at other (big) teams. Oxlade Chamberlain, Bale, Wilshere.

In any case, British players are ordinarily overpriced even when their ability doesn't exactly justify it (Downing £20m; Bent £24m; Carroll £35m; Wickham £13m; Milner £25m).

So my point here is, at far less what we paid for Carroll, Hendersen and Downing, we could of got much better talent in mainland Europe, Russia and perhaps South America.

Honda, Dzagoev, Sissoko, Matuidi would all have cost less and offered much more.
And what particularly irks is that these, unlike Hazard, Goetze and other mirages, were available and open to offers, affordable and exactly what we need.

How many on here were punting Honda in Jan? How many were salivating over the prospect of Mata joining summer? How many are now crying out for Sissoko?

Fact is we could of had these players but for the incomprehensible wisdom of our manager.

Many are bemoaning the lack of trickery and flair in our midfield, and rightly so.
Well, this was something our manager could and should have dealt with. Strangely, he chose not.

In the absence of Stevie, Raul was our best creating and scoring midfielder.
His reward? Our manager boots him, without even a proper replacement.

Now Lucas is out, we have to call on Shelvey, far from proven.
We could of had Raul to call on... a player who not only creates, but scores goals as well.
And our learned manager chucks him out.

Jah, fine wisdom that of Kenny's, hey!

Melville

Why are you under the assumption that players settle instantly? It has taken Carroll and Downing a while to settle and Henderson has finally settled but with these foreigners they take even longer. Just look at Maxi he took 1-2 years to settle and he is finally becoming good again. Even with Alonso it was the same and the only reason Torres started off well is because Rafa played to his qualities - counter attacking. Kenny did the right thing but Carroll wasn't worth the punt. Especially when he was injured.

Thanks, KickingBro

Melville, plz shut up. Apart frm andy carrol, KK has done fine. He shud be given atleast this season to put 2gether a squad.

I agree with you on moussa sissoko as i think he would have been a fantastic buy. Still might get him in the near future though.But you are the definition of the 'knee jerk' fan.You have not gave them a chance to prove themselves. Hendo was not a waste of money what so ever. He will be a very good player for us.He has already shown flashes of brilliance and is still very young. Same with Andy. Adam is also a good player. gives it 110% every game which is just what you want. Downing is yet to prove himself but i have faith in him. The reasons why we are buying British is because in the near future the majority of your team will have to be British to meet the new rules. No stop moaning and start backing your players.

Chris in Tamworth

You Sir are such an idiot.

Kenny did not "chuck" Meireles, he chose to leave because of wages.
Yes he was promised a pay rise, by the old owners. It wasn't included in his contract in writing.

Mata wanted Champions League footy, we would of had to give him silly wages, so it was a no go.

Honda, we missed the chance to sign, but did anyone else sign him? No, so does that make every other manager useless?

Oxlade Chamberlain has the potential to be a good player, to even put him in the same league as Wilshire and Bale is stupid.

I guess you mean we should spend big on hyped players from other leagues?
Maybe someone like Veron, Shevchenko or Tomas Brolin.

Melville, i'm sorry to say but you are clueless to the real world.

KT!

Aquilani, Keane and Johnson are three signing who cost over £15m and who were not class. I have nothing against Johnson but selling Arbeloa for £3m and Signing Johnson for £17m was not good business.

Raul Meireless couldn't tackle a fish supper.

Try watching a Liverpool press conference with Kenny Dalglish, he has pride in managing this club. Compare that to Benitez who was continually prostituting himself to Madrid or Juventus or Milan in his press conferences.

JRG

Whenever hendo is played in the middle he looks class, he plays there for england u21s an bosses it every game

You both kind of have a point.

Not all foreigners with a good rep do well in england. On the flip side though (with the exception of adam) our british transfers seem to have been more of a hinderence than a help. With a bit of patience though I think Carroll and Henderson will be good. Remain unconvinced by downing though.

I was thinking about this the other day. In my opinion it comes down to the club's pulling power for potential signings. The period during and after winning the Champions' League and FA Cup from 2005-2007 was the period when we had the greatest pulling power.

In this period we signed 3 genuinely world-class players: Reina, Mascherano, Torres

However, we failed to build a world-class squad, relying instead on the talent of the starting 11. Players like Riera, Crouch, Benayoun and Babel came in rather than the world-class players we had the pulling power to attract. Despite coming close in 2008/09, we failed to win the league. For this, I blame the board. Silva, Villa and Alves were all close to joining and with a little support from the board we could have signed them.

I think that if Rafa had operated with the board which Kenny has we would have been in a much better position now. However, right now we don't have the pulling power that Rafa's early successes afforded him. Top players simply won't pick us over other clubs, so we are forced to look at other options. Operating under such constraints, I think the signings of Downing, Carroll and particularly Coates, Adam, Suarez, Henderson and Enrique have been very impressive.

This season, the team is getting used to playing with each other and it will take time. With Lucas out I now doubt we will make the top 4 this season, but with a season of gelling under our belts, with Lucas returning and with new signings coming in next summer, I have every faith that next season will be a really big one for us.

Red Ollie

I seem to recall that rafa had the luxury of champions league football to attract players. He wasn't competing with a mega inflated Market due to the likes of City, aniz, Mallorca and PSG throwing money round like crazy.

I also remember him forcing players like Alonso out the door and holding Macherano at the club despite him wanting to leave. At the end signing players weren't rafa's problem. Keeping them was.

Was at Anfield on Saturday and thought the QPR fans chanting of Luis Suarez and Jonjo Shelvey was of poor taste. Banter from the terraces is one thing but that was something else. Mind you, it wasn't like the Kop or other sections of the ground were drowning them out. We need to get behind the team during every game, not just the big ones.
Maxi, Luis and Dirk linked up well in the first half, then the defence played well in the second half when we should have take more chances to ease the pressure. Still, clean sheet and another 3 points.
Barton is still a major toolbag at times

Yes but you have to go to some games, otherwise buying a shirt and verbally saying you support a club means nothing to anyone. You would be mad if you did not want to go to Anfield as an LFC fan....

I disagree with anyone stating that "to be a true fan you must go to games" What about people who dont live in this country are they not true fans? All teams need support from fans who go to games and who do not, I dont think its fair to say ones who go to games are better fans than ones who dont.

I disagree Rewflo.

Just because someone goes to see the team at Anfield or away games, it doesn't mean they're better fans. So it's unfair to say that!

It just means they're luckier than some fans, because they can afford to go!

Then there's getting a ticket!

This op is ridiculous.

Who the hell is that Chris in Tamworth? But as long as they are cheap then I am all for it! Look at Hernandez for United. 6 mil and bagged 20 goals in the season. If we can sign a poacher for around that price I would be delighted! Is that what type of player he is Chris?

Thanks, KickingBro {Ed002's Note - I am never convinced by the Tor Andre Flo, Peter Crouch type players. I recall Stoke and Sunderland enquiring about Marc Janko over the summer.}

Ed002 may be being slightly unfair there, while he is that type of player he is also a bloody good finisher (check his stats)

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Right, I don't disagree Chris. Flo, Crouch and no doubt other players of the same stature have done well, but if you want fast free-flowing good to watch football, they don't cut it for me.}

Can I assume from that then Ed002 that you wouldn't have signed Carroll?

Chris in Tamworth {Ed002's Note - Not a chance. I was astonished by Dalglish's move for him.}

You and me both!

Chris in Tamworth

Youve obviously seen he is a complete forward on fifa 12 but having seen him myself he is incredibly slow

We don't need a pacey player. We need someone to stand in the box and score.

Thanks, KickingBro

hi eds! just wondering on the david villa front that you saying we wouldnt go for 30+ striker for £30m. £30m is a lot of money i agree for someone of that age but the lad could be the man to fire us into champions league football next season and resulting in that bring in some of the worlds best footballing talent in the summer. £30m is a lot in the short term but in the long term the £30m we spend on him could result in money from the champions league and the money from the finish in the league and dare i say it in the next few tears maybe even a prem title which would be more than £30m im sure u agree

Oh, please! let's stop kidding ourselves with this "committee" rubbish.
Fact of the matter is that Kenny has the final say in who comes in, who doesn't and who goes.

Now we (or perhaps, I) know that Comolli's prefered midfield acquisitions summer were Moussa Sissoko and Etienne man Blaise Matuidi, both who are better than anything we have in mid bar Stevie.
We know that both or either would have come fairly inexpensive at under £10m each, or put differently, both could of been purchased for what we paid for Hendersen.

But Kenny instead went for Adam and Henderson at almost £25m. (Very poor deal.)

We know that Comolli was keen Mata and informal discussions with his agent had taken place prior to the kids' Euros and the Valencia man had intimated opennes to the move.

Again, disaster fell upon us. Kenny decides "nah, Mata's ain't our man. Downing is". And so the Villa man became target number one.

In short:
COMOLLI= Mata, Sissoko, Matuidi
DALGLISH= Downing, Hendersen, Adam
You can decide yourself which is the better group.

Look, the point here is that the players who tend to be favoured by Comolli- which often don't wow Kenny- are the sort of players we been crying out for for years.
Technically aware and very good on-ball skills.

Modric, Bale, Suarez, Mata, Ekotto, Sissoko, Matuidi, Vargas, Coates, Eriksen, Hazard, Benzema.

Contrast that with Kenny's (admittedly hardworking[some]) beavers devoid of technical ability (typical of British players): Adam, Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Dann, McCarthy, Wickham etc.

Fact is, if we had a continenal manager, with the sort of funds Kenny had, skill, creativity and ingenuity would be permeating this team.

But owing to our manager's "infinite, unquestionable wisdom", Suarez is our only genuine creative outlet, without which we simply mules, lumbering unimaginatively uphill, the burden weighing heavily down on us.

Yeah, we had a very good summer, didn't we?

Melville

Lacking technical ability ? ..... Lol

Adam , Downing , Henderson - Ha ha .

1977

What a crap post.
Adam is a great player and Henderson will be. Mata chose Chelsea in the end so we would never of got him, despite the fact he was willing to listen to offers initially.

MIKEY

Try comparing costs of wages etc.

Life is not football manager.

KT!

My stock reply to people like this is to go to Anfield with your 'Kenny out' flag if you feel so strongly about it.

JRG

While apparently credible, the out-of-hand dismissal of Adam, Hendo, Downing is quite laughable. It's over-hyped foreigners verses tried and tested Premiership performers. Criticism for the sake of it. It's not like we aren't creating chances, we're just lacking those chances being put away. FIFA 11 type speculation remains just that.
ND

Oh so the problem is a lack of creativity? -Hang on a minute i thought we'd created lots of chances but no put most of them away>? Is that Kenny's fault?

Get the Kenny out flag then bud!
Andy C

When we finish 6th this season let's talk again... OP is right, we all thinking it but not all admit it.

I disagree, Adam has been excellent and Henderson has been improving every week, especially in a central role. Downing has been disappointing. Regards to Carroll, everyone seems to want to replace him with Villa, who plays about the same minutes as Carroll and scores about the same too? So why spend another £30m on a striker who doesnt score?

I would bid for Milos Krasic, would create a lot of assists for the team and score a few himself, Juventus said he could be sold in January if a bid is met, they paid £18million for him so somewhere around £15million they might sell.

Con

Why the hell are they selling then?

Kaizer

They are selling him due to a tactical change which no longer sees the need for wingers. Juve play much more narrow now and therefore dont require out an out wingers. They are looking to recruit wing forwards to replace.

Krasic made no secret of the fact that he has not settled well in italy or his discontent at being on the bench. Fairly talented player but comes with some baggage and unlike Suarez (who also had baggage) Krasic is not wiling to work anywhere near as hard for the chances.

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - Juventus will be open to good offers for Krasic at some point but it is unclear if the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Malaga and Roma are still interested in a player who has not taken well to sitting on the sidelines. The player has declared his interest in Manchester United and it is not out of the question that they may be interested in Krasic. Juventus may value the player out of the winter window though. There is at least one person at Chelsea who very much likes the player and may wish to revisit earlier interest - but he is in Chile right now.}

So I'm guessing this person at Chelsea is looking at Eduardo Vargas as an alternative to Krasic? {Ed002's Note - Not at all.}

Imagine this as a team:
4-2-3-1
1 Pepe Reina (Doni)
2 Glen Johnson (Flanagan)
4 Martin Kelly (Skrtel)
5 Daniel Agger (Coates)
3 Jose Enrique (Robinson)
8 Steven Gerrard (Lucas)
6 Charlie Adam (Henderson)
9 Mario Gotze (Downing)
11 Christien Eriksen (Kuyt)
10 Eden Hazard (Sterling)
7 Luis Suarez (Carroll)

Carragher brought into the coaching set up with a view to take over as manager when kenny finishes.

You do know these are all dream buys, right?

RenegadeRed

Ed's for christmas you should go and buy all these guys who post comments like this Football Manager!

Thanks, KickingBro

Carra as a manager, 1 word springs to mind Hoof.

Give him more credit. Carra is well known to be a very astute man and very knowledgeable about football. I imagine he would be a good manager if he was Kennys understudy for a couple of years.

Alright guys,

Haven't posted in a while but been reading a few posts and just wanted to say a few of things.

1. You can not compare the amount we spent on a player directly to the amount spent by another club on a player. So many factors come into it e.g. wages, whether they want to actually go there, competitions we are in etc. So to say for example we should have got Mata over Downing or whatever is just not realistic.

2. Certain players we have bought are young they are not going to have the ability to read the game quite as well as some older more experienced players.

3. We have completely overhauled the team, its going to take a while for players to settle in. After all if you look at the likes of Poulsen we had last year. I think we have improved massively. Its true certain players are struggling but rather than get on their backs give them time (Lucas prime example, gutted he is out for the season he has been brilliant).

4. I think we have been very very unlucky with a lot of results this season. Realistically I think the only game we genuinely deserved to lose was Spurs at the start of the season. Not to mention hitting the woodwork.

5. Yes, I can see us getting a couple of players in Jan. To be absolutely honest I have no more idea than anyone only players that have been looked at. I anticipate an attacking player coming in especially with the possibility of Suarez out on a lengthy ban.

Thanks for reading.

-Al-

Did you see the look on torres face last nite utter rejection come back to Liverpool Torres life is about forgiveness and second chances and I know lfc fans would welcome you with open arms

I for one wouldn't want him anywhere near our club again.

KT!

Come back Torres! Are you for real mate? Wouldn't have that turn coat any where near the club. Let him stew on the bench at his so called bigger club. Elmo 96

Lets not be bitter, thats not the Liverpool way. Maybe Torres is like Fowler. When fowler was at city he was fairly poor but then when he came back his work rate increased, his performances increased. Why? He had affection for the club.
Perhaps if Torres came back it would be the same. He didn't leave on good terms but neither did Rafa or houllier but there is no doubting they have genuine affection for the club.

just a suggestion eds, as there seems to be a lot of confusion about what this site is and what you guys do.
.maybe have a short list of rules or guidelines at the top of a page , to avoid having to write responses as above over and over again. i treat this page as a forum for discussion, but if i were to ask a question , its gotten to the point now where i wouldnt know whats ok to ask and whats not. i feel you may be victims of your own generosity of spirit, responding to so many lazy questions. but every now and then i see you having a bit of a go at someone for asking a fairly innocent question. i dont mean to criticise for the sake of it, im a big fan of this site and have a lot of appreciation for the work that goes into maintaining it, . just a thought.

Captain Fantastic to Return on the 30th December against Newcastle!

Best News Ever for Liverpool!

Go Stevie Go!

{Ed002's Note - Just to be clear, that this is the poster speculating.}

Not just the poster, Friends of Liverpool and others are also citing this!

Of course people should believe what they want from what sources they want!

{Ed002's Note - It is speculation based around statements that "he is close to being ready" etc. but the reality is the club will not rush him back, will perhaps have a behind closed doors game to assess him, let him have a couple of cameos from the bench before launching him in to the rough and tumble of EPL football.}

Well people put great stock into what Macca Says especially the moderators and he's rarely been right so what difference does it make if he's back on the 30th great or if he does not appear until shortly into the new year!

30th December or early January?

Splitting hairs? {Ed002's Note - I am not sure how you sucked Macca in to this issue of a specific date. Folks need to realise that things change and the information certain people give is the best available at the time. If you pull all of that information the forum will degenerate in to a series of unanswered questions and speculation that Higuain has been seen at the VIP gate of John Lennon International this morning.}

SG will be available on the 30th FACT {Ed002's Note - Gosh, that confirms it then.}

I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't see Steven Gerrard until 3rd January when we face Man City

Just watched a couple of this weekends games again this morning and try as I may, I can't help but get wound up with regards to the blatant witch hunt regarding Luis Suarez. I know that as LFC fans Luis is our Hero and our new Darling 7, but if we are being honest and objective on times he goes down to easy. But last nights game had two strikers on show that are both about 6ft2 and weighing about 14st each. Both fell over anytime a defender came near them, and got freekicks EVERYTIME. Suarez gets that treatment and more, yet he is a 'cheating, Diving Uruguayan, who is ruining the EPL'. What happened to the old saying whats good for the goose is good for the gander, because I've checked all the daily rags and no mention of it. Also, what has been said about the Modric dive. If that was our LS his name would dragged through the dirt all week long, with opinion polls and all sorts being run on him.
I'm all for players staying on their feet, including our little magician, but the roughride and shoddy treatment he is getting from referees and the press is becoming more blatant by the day.

I hope Kenny gives it to the press with both barrels at his next interview.

TommyWalsh

You know tommy it was fergie that started all this by saying about luis going down easy , ever since then the refs are not giving him anything , and i mean anything , fergie may be a good manager but he can be as low as a snake in these things , kk should come out and say about the refs and luis , its the only way he will get any fair treament from refs.............lfc

The more you complain the more you get complaints like attacts like its a Universal Law

Kenny should lighten up at interviews and do himself and Liverpool a favor.

Hi ed,
Gonzalo Higuain had a bust up with the
Real Madrid Managment, he is considering
his options with liverpool being
interested. I would love to see him and suarez
up front, just imagine that :) {Ed001's Note - he was offered to Chelsea.}

At how much? {Ed002's Note - Enough to fund a Cavani bid.}

Great when are we signing him?

Higuain will not go to chelsea until drogba or Torres have been moved on. If he moves, which is a big if because he doesn't want to, he will need guaranteed first team football. Same goes for us, he likes the club but will not move while we have 3 established strikers.

Rewflo {Ed002's Note - You are missing the point that he has actually been offered to Chelsea already. It is nothing to do with Torres or Drogba.}

No ed, you missed my point. He may have been offered but has no desire to leave especially not when he will not be guaranteed playing time.

I understand what you are saying and have no discrepancy regarding madrid wanting to sell, my discrepancy is Higuain wanting to leave.

Wow, there's a lot of Torres talk coming back to Liverpool. Why would we want that sulky moper around our club?
Suarez reminds me of when Nando first came, hungrey & hard working. I'm sorry but that Torres has gone, along with a yard of pace. Its sad it ended like it did, bad ownership didn't help.
Thanks for the good times Nando, you will never find a home like you had at Anfield!!

Torres is nothing without Gerrard

Its like Robin without Batman

However Batman is still supreme

Torees got what he looked for sometimes what you get and what you want are not the same!

Torres deserves no crocodile tears, he getting 200k a week to warm the bench, sometimes people over rate champions league football, world cups etc. at the end of the day for many modern day footballers its about the money. Your medals won't keep you in luxury when you retire!

In contrast Look at Jimmy Case and Tommy Smith both left with moderate health problems from their career and with little or no financial gain however they don't make men like this anymore!

{Ed002's Note - Another Adam West fan I see.}

If Torres wants to come back...lets make it happen he would be superb again.Certain players belong at a certain club and Torres belongs at lfc!!!

No did'nt like Adam West much preferred Michael Keaton, all that Poww etc. was a bit too much! {Ed002's Note - Only one true Batman. I don't remember Michael Keaton ever doing the Batusi ("you shake a pretty mean cape Batman").}

I like your use of brackets

EDS please can you answer this:

Torres was sold for £50m
Did Chelsea pay the fee up front or in installments ?
Would you have him bk ?
Would kenny want him bk ?
Would he be accepted bk at Liverpool ?

The reason im asking is there is so many posts on here saying he will be bk in jan for £20m its hard to ignore if there's been a leak in a source somewhere or its just fantasy. But if they didnt pay us in full then they probley owe us £20-£30m still, however much i dont see it happening, it would make sense as Torres fit is one of the best finishers in the world, and the chances were creating he would put 1 in every 3 in the back of the net.

Thanks Ed
BigD {Ed002's Note - Chelsea paid in full and then Liverpool spent it Suarez and Carroll.}

Sorry but you don't know if the Torres money was paid in full {Ed001's Note - actually the accounts detail all the monies in and out, if people just bothered to look it is all there in black and white. What we need is goals coming from Mid filed.

Downing Adam Henderson Maxi Kuyt are all capable of scroing goals but are not gettign enough....

Even Johnson and Centre backs can chip in with 3-5 goals...

this way we can ease goal scoring burdern of Suarez ..

I don't know how we haven't had more goals coming from corners.
We must have had more corners than anyone else this year in the league and not a single goal from one that i can recall.
surely this is something that can be practiced over and over again?

Right,not the greatest result for us last night. But i still think we'll defo make the top 4. I don't think i've seen that much of an improvement in Chelsea even though they scraped a win due to a clumsy tackle by Clichy,which really spelt curtains for City. I believe that were playing the best football in the Prem bar none. I truly believe that some unfortunate team is gonna get turned right over. Our look in front of goal has been unfortunate to say the least.
With a couple of new attacking faces in the window and if we can continue to play like we are at the minute,top 4 no danger especially with the eminent return of Gerrard,we've got a great chance of Champions League. Tink we'll blitz Villa,although we've not scored as many as we'd of liked,confidence must still be flying.

Ed - I can't remember us loaning a player from another club in recent history off the top of my head. The reason I bring it up is that with all this talk of David Villa linked to Prem etc, would we consider loaning him until end of season? Means if we miss out on CL, he isnt tied to us, and if he does well and we make CL we could have option to buy maybe. I dont think we would buy him in Jan or summer, but a short term loan might not be too far fetched?

LIVERPRES {Ed001's Note - wasn't Anelka the last player we took on loan? I very much doubt it will happen in Villa's case, he would want guaranteed first team football, to safeguard his Spain place.}

Reasonable point Ed01 but where would he get that at Man City, ManU, Chelski, Are or even Tottenham? We should be a team he should think about as he would probably play more often than not and might even win something?
Iggypop {Ed001's Note - Spurs would play him, Harry would love him as a player.}

With the strikers we have its would not be difficult to guarantee Villa's first team place. {Ed001's Note - it would be very difficult if he didn't play well. We have had enough problems with must play clauses in recent years, we don't need to add a fresh one.}

I may be wrong, but wasn't Mascherano the last player we loaned and then we bought for £18m was it?

There are 'Must Play' clauses in players' contracts !

There is a lot of clamour for Villa and while there is no doubting that he is a good player, dont forget we did buy an experienced spanish goal machine once who was very ppor and didnt adapt to our league... Morientes.

I don't know the details of Torres' leaving and Carroll's arriving at the club, but I start to wonder if both players still suffering for it. Maybe they were one of those hasty decisions that turned out not to be the best at the end. I just hope they both find their previous forms....

Am i missing something? Fat Frank has shown that he is not finished? What, because he took a penalty, smashed it right through the middle ( as did Andy, when his was saved). Didn't realize you had to be a premiership footballer to put your boot through a ball. Nonsense. The guy wouldn't have made it to the ball like Raul did in the first half. Fat Frank Finished. Get over it.

Sick and tired of Sky and tired lazy journalism. All the papers follow on from the tv coverage. Ed's, let's start a fans paper. We'll then move into radio. At least it will be real fans opinions. I bet we could get some support for it.

D-Day (1892) {Ed001's Note - I have always thought a football-only newspaper, radio station and TV channel would be a good idea. I tried to sell Virgin Media on the idea when they lost SSN, but they just wanted to replace it like-for-like.}

I've some friends in printing and a few with private radio contacts. Start small, aim big. What kind of hits are you getting on this site these days. Combined fan pages? {Ed001's Note - Aug 31st we got over 1.3m page views.}

I'll enquire. Things have got to change. 10 years ago, TalkSport used to be relatively respectful. Now, it's garbage. People like Keys on there with their chauvinist views. Alan Brazil and his tired repetitiv nonsense. Stan Collymore tries to be forthright, but his language is atrocious. "whereby" every other word!

Sky has an agenda, of which I have no doubt. We all know about the papers. It's just become a commercial game, a business that we fans spend millions on. Sometimes our love is blind. Our clubs were taken away from us when the premiership was started. Not scared of change, just sick of media management of opinions. Fans flock like sheep and believe all they read. I've called the radio with opinion and been cut off for disagreeing. Is this Cold War Russia?

D-Day (1892) {Ed001's Note - all that Talksport do is get their presenters to say whatever will rile up lots of people to phone up. They pander to the lowest possible denominator, I wouldn't waste my time with it.}

As a young lad I used to enjoy reading a city wide football only paper if my memory serves me correct? Does anyone else rememeber it and what it was called? Is it still going? As I recall, it was quite popular. Might be a model.

Thats a great idea Ed 001 and D-day and I hope u can find space for people to express their opinion in articles and not only in comments.

RedTurk,you are the most negative poster,because I wouldn't say supporter i've come across on this page by far. You keep saying i speak the truth blah blah blah. I'm sure you do it just to get a reaction of other fans. Give it a f***in rest you idiot,its turning into a RedTurk page. Why do you never praise anyone but Suarez. Their's been plenty of very good and consistent performance's by a number of players,from Agger to Adam.
Get a grip,imagine Anfield with 45K R.Turks in it. Think there'd be a mass booing all way through reguardless of the score. Grow up and start supporting the team instead of slaggin all and sundry lad.
J.C

Hmmm, the 'agree' button is popular today :)

cozinoz

J.c i think your totally out of order there mate. No way would there be mass booing..... There would be a mass riot. Can you imagine the arguments Turk be causing with himself. We would be world moaning champions for sure. It be that bad that Turk be commiting Hari Kari just to get away from himself. Ha ha. But being the festive season it wont be so bad. There'll be 45,000 Turk(eys) for xmas dinner.
Welcome to our world Turk.

Taffytel

That the beauty of life people never agree and 45,000 redturks would be impossible

redturk is entitled to his opinion and if you don't like it why not disagree with it or just skip his posts?

Taffytel,to be honest i think he's a lost cause mate.
Like i said he throws that old chesnut of 'I speak what's on my mind,just because people don't like it its my right. Your not wrong ol RedTurk, like everyone else you can spout your nonsense. It does not matter how well we play you nit pick,never or very rarely praising anyone except you know who. Just post something positive instead of constant whining like a little bitch. I along with the majority on here or hounoured to support Liverpool. Why don't you get with the programe and start looking for the positive's in players,instead of writing them off soon as you've seen who's playing.
Suppose you can't teach an old stubborn blinkerd dog new tricks.
JC {Ed002's Note - Please keep the foul analogies out of your posts or they will simply be deleted.}

Being super positive is not the solution either.

Redturk can call it as he see's if you don't like it you don't like it.

There's some middle ground!

Lateral thinking?

Ye i don't like what he has to post. Because for the last time of me writing it,the guy never has anything to post,end of storey. His right but it would be nice if he wrote a nice post about how Adam is comin into his own as a very important cog in the Liverpool wheel. More chance of plattin piss then anything like that happening.
J.C

The middle ground is CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, which many posters (and even ed001 from time to time) offer. Red Turk mainly offers just criticism, although sometimes he does have a point.

So just a thought? If we did resign Torres for 20m? Does that mean Andy Carroll really only cost us 5million? and will people then leave him alone and give him some solid support?

No, Kenny paid 35m for Andy Carroll. He had 50m to spend, he could have waited for the summer transfer window, but he paid 35m for an injured plank! We love Kenny...and bring back Rafa!

Please remember Newcastle turned down at least £25M for Carroll from elswhere before we bought him. Maybe the bidding had gone higher so we had to pay the £35? I for one was pleased, excited and extremely surprised we got him. Give him time and he will come good. As KK said, we did not buy him for 6 months but 10 years! Rush was a bit slow to start as well yu know!

Iggypop

Carroll was a hot preopect Kenny Gambled it did not work out such is life and football

Carroll is suffering because we don't play his style of football we have no barton or nolan that likes to get stuck in aiding carroll in his style of play. He seems to be stressed as he watches the ball going by him more often than not instead of chasing the ball like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a car he seem "Struck" by fear! Can Carroll adopt to Liverpool, it has not been the case so far, can liverpool kept waiting for that day?

Liverpool are 100/1 to win the Premier League. That means, if you put a £10 bet on Liverpool to win the league, you will lose £10!
