Anyone know if Studge has travelled to London with the squad? Eds?

13 Aug 2016 21:02:12
Sturridge not in the squad.

Starting left full tomorrow.

Has anyone read Klopps comments mentioning Ings in the same bracket as Benteke and Mario? I haven't seen the interview so it could be that Klopps words are being twisted but wondered what everyone's take was on this? Is Ings surplus?

Believable0 Unbelievable6

13 Aug 2016 20:18:45
Klopp seems to see Firmino as his first choice striker. With Origi and Sturridge already behind him, Ings may struggle for gametine this year unless he can adapt his game and be more versatile, or if Klopp suddenly decides to play 2 strikers.

Our squad is massive and it needs to be cut down. Not even teams in Europe have 4 senior strikers. City only have Aguero and Bony (Iheanacho youth, Nolito can cover) . United have Zlatan and Rooney (Rashford youth, Martial can cover) . Leicester who almost always play with 2 strikers only have 4; Vardy, Musa, Okazaki and Ulloa. We are over stocked. Having Ings (who I really like as a player btw) now only stands to block the likes of Kane, Gomes and Dunn from getting any chances our senior team. Klopp is a massive believer in giving the kids a chance and he knows his squad is too big. You don't need to have 4 players competing for one position. So I can well believe that Ings, Benteke and Balotelli are all available at the right price.

13 Aug 2016 20:29:16
I think Klopp rightly sees his system only requiring 2 class strikers and they're origi and sturridge. Your 3rd striker, in a one striker system, should really be an understudy however, Origi has come on leaps and bounds under Klopp. I think the media are to an extent casting his words in a more sinister light, however I've inferred from something ed001 said - regarding a potential transfer - that he is not seen as indispensable to the club. I like the strike force in our main 3 of Sturridge, Origi and Ings for now and, bar a big offer for Ings, think it's the best we could hope for; we have 3 really able players to fill one position.

13 Aug 2016 20:53:46
Ings will be our top scorer this season if he gets a chance.

13 Aug 2016 20:54:19
Shame really i think ings has the potential to be a top striker.

Probably best to find a loan for him and see how he does after being out last season.

13 Aug 2016 21:10:51
He is a great player Dezy. When he first signed I remember having to strongly defend him against the masses.

Klopp rarely ever uses 2 strikers though. When he does he tends to play Firmino as slightly deeper forward. Plus Mane can cover there. It's a shame, but Ings has probably missed his window of opportunity by being injured last year.

Hopefully he fights his way into the team next year because I had massively high hopes for him. With his work rate and goals he could've been a modern day Rush. It just hasn't happened thus far though sadly.

13 Aug 2016 21:59:12
Higgins, during the pre-game interview Klopp was asked about Benteke's probable move to Crystal Palace and he said that we are too comfortable with six strikers, (Firmino, Origi, Sturridge, Ings, Benteke and Balotelli) but we are not going to gift any of them to another team without them first meeting the club's valuation in each case.

Klopp will certainly give Ings the opprotunity to showcase his talent, whether as a striker or not, as long as the player's performance in training is up to the prerequisite level for gametime.

Having said that Ings has the ability to score double figures for us this season, and I believe he will.

13 Aug 2016 22:15:59
Klopp said something along the lines of, he is not like benteke and balotelli (the other two), he will be important to us this season. He can't be rushed back, he found the pre season games difficult.

13 Aug 2016 22:21:41
A fit Ings should be ahead of Origi. He has more to offer in his all round game.

13 Aug 2016 22:40:47
Totally agree with MK. Both posts.
Ings has the potential to be quality. He has and always will hunt down every ball he possibly can.
I for one hope he does stay and proves himself.

13 Aug 2016 22:53:22
He came and said something about ings after that inital comment saying inga will be very important foe us this year. We know his quality but wr can't rush him back. He said a lot of pre season was still to much for him, not his knees but his muscles.

13 Aug 2016 23:15:59
Origi is a beast. Miles ahead of Ings. Just my opinion
YNWA.

13 Aug 2016 23:23:44
There is a piece on the official website with Klopp quoted as saying "we're counting on Ingsy" so I'm guessing he's in his plans.

13 Aug 2016 23:25:46
Another classic example of people klopps every word. STOP reading into everything too much!

13 Aug 2016 23:46:24
MK, Ings and rush in same sentence. Behave yourself lad.

14 Aug 2016 00:21:42
Right now, Ings is not in Origi's class. It is up to him to change that as I like him as a player.

14 Aug 2016 00:26:47
IF Klopp sees Firmino as his first choice striker, then Ings is in trouble. Sturridge and Origi will definitely be ahead of him in the pecking order, which makes him 4th choice. Not exactly a position a striker about to enter his peak years wants to be in. A loan would be a good option and then bring him back into the team if Sturridge has another injury hit campaign.

14 Aug 2016 02:34:10
Klopp clarified straight after that, that Ings had an important role to play.

14 Aug 2016 04:12:29
That's the problem, you can't just bring some one back when you need them now with the new loan rules.

14 Aug 2016 05:27:04
Ings is the type of player Klopp loves, would run after a chicken for hours if it gets him in the team. I can see Klopp changing his position slightly, educating him on other parts of the game. Might not be his best season this year but I can see Ings becoming a top player. Talent, hard work and mental strength, he has them all.

14 Aug 2016 08:09:04
Cheers everyone my take was its just media twisting things for click bait but wanted to check others thoughts too. Sure there is competition for his place in the side. However he is not being moved on like Balotelli and Benteke. I think he has enough about him (Ings) to play more than just as a striker anyway although we do have a few AM in our squad.

Has Ings ever played left back?

14 Aug 2016 10:00:36
I've never saw Ings as good enough. Was only brought in as cover by BR at a time when every player needed to be able to better our 1st team and am sorry Ings is a mile away from a 20 goal striker. I think using Firmino as our main striker is suicide as he's far from consistent enough and we will finish up like Arsenal, not scoring enough to win critical games and throwing away silly points. For me Origi has to be number one for me with Sturridge fitting in when fit and available. If your right MKS then I'll have to just trust Klopp on this one after all Aubamayang wasn't initially a striker!

13 Aug 2016 17:42:23
Hello Ed's,

Just finished watching Hull City play Leicester.

Looked at the left back Robertson.
He looked better than Moreno.

Is there a chance Liverpool will go back to sign him?

Also if Liverpool were to sign a Left back just for sake of giving competition to Moreno, would Liverpool just sign someone from mid table teams?
Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

{Ed002's Note - Just MOTD fever and random names - give us a break.}

13 Aug 2016 19:01:26
Having been linked with him a few times this summer I watched with interest. I didn't think he looked that great to be honest, but it's only one game.

13 Aug 2016 19:44:25
Hi Eds

Just watched my local team play forest view rovers, their left back was better than moreno, could you ask Klopp to take a look at him, he is paid 20 pound a game and travelling - Bargain.

13 Aug 2016 22:53:25
Evered. Those wage demands are far too high. He'd have to come down a fair bit imo. £12.50 and a 4 lucozades per game.

14 Aug 2016 00:17:58
and a bag of cheese and onion crisps .

14 Aug 2016 00:25:01
Moreno is one of the worst LB's I've ever seen hence, noes not a yardstick to measure how good or bad a left back is. He's awful, period.

13 Aug 2016 14:31:11
Got a question for those local Liverpudlians. I am from Finland and coming to Liverpool for the Man United game in October. I'd like to know what is the best way to get back to city center from Anfield? Bus, cab, something else.? How is it arranged? When I have been there before I've only managed to get hospitality tickets which included transportation to Anfield and back to center but this time it will be different with no arranged transportation.

Thanks in advance and good luck for tomorrow's game.

Tomi.

13 Aug 2016 15:17:01
Get a taxi 🚕 into town centre after the game.

13 Aug 2016 15:17:57
Taxi buddy.

13 Aug 2016 15:46:47
Alright Tomi, if you want to get the bus you can get the 17, 26 and 27. There's also a soccer bus run by stagecoach. They will be like the buses from Calcutta so personally I would get a cab, it would cost no more than £10. Dave.

13 Aug 2016 15:58:47
Thanks for the info guys. There is some kind of "taxi posts" close to Anfield then?

13 Aug 2016 16:00:58
Best advice I can give you is don't bother! Utd will win 6-0 after Moreno scores an own goal, gives away a penalty and then gets sent off inside the first 10 minutes. Klopp will be forced to resign as we languish at the bottom of the table and all in all I'd hate to see you waste your money on such a disaster.
However, I'd be prepared to spare you this expensive nightmare and would, reluctantly, take the tickets off your hands. This would of course be completely altruistic on my part, I would not expect to derive any pleasure from this transaction, it is purely a case of me wanting to protect you from this doubtless awful event.

Speak soon, my friend😉.

13 Aug 2016 16:20:33
DM, that is really noble of you. I'll keep your advice in mind and let you know if I am not able to make it ;)

13 Aug 2016 17:19:51
Best advice I could give is shanksies pony (walk) .
A taxi is preferable to the bus but it can be a nightmare. There will be loads of folks hot footing it down into town to celebrate, so just tag along with them. Will take around 15/ 20 mins. 😎.

13 Aug 2016 17:35:36
Shanks's pony! Oh my.

13 Aug 2016 18:23:34
Take yourself up to the Derry club for a few pints, wait for the place to clear then get a taxi.

13 Aug 2016 19:18:07
Walk. save yourself some cash. It takes about 45 minutes mate.

13 Aug 2016 19:28:39
Best advice mate, go up by taxi about 2 hours before kick off. The atmoshpere around anfield will be electric with the mancs coming to town. Regardless if result, you'll have a fantastic night.
Am I right in saying the last time that we played them on a monday night it ended up 3-3? I was about 7 at the time, totally remember the gane but not what day it was olayef.

13 Aug 2016 21:54:45
Jan 4 1994.

14 Aug 2016 06:44:17
You will wait a long time for a taxi. don't wait for 26, 27 or 17 bus they are all diverted till at least an hour after the final whistle. I do logistics for the games. Head to Breck Road from the Kop, a 5 minute walk, once at Breck look to your right, get on the 14 bus opposite a pawn shop next to the grass verge. Trust me it will be quicker than a cab. And cost £2.30 one way. If you getting a bus there ask for a dayrider and keep it, all buses all day for £4.

14 Aug 2016 06:48:27
get the 26 or 27 bus on the way there before the game at Liverpool one bus terminal, both stop outside Anfield as long as its over 1 hour before kick off hope u enjoy your trip and ill get you a pint.

14 Aug 2016 09:01:45
Thanks Chief and others too.

Last year's edition was much better. Still fun though.

Jonas Hector has signed a new contract with Koln apparently, should definitely rule him out.

13 Aug 2016 13:06:50
So today is the day. Leicester have already begun their defence and the excitement for every fan is back!

I am going to predict some key finishing positions.

1st Man City. Pep always has a great first season, and with Aguero, Nolito, De Bruyne, Silva, Sterling, Sane and Iheanacho at their service, I can't see anybody having the fire power to match City. Their defence is irrelevant. Like we did in 13/ 14, they will simply outscore the opposition. Besides, it will be so hard to get the ball off them in the first place to even mount an attack.

2nd Tottenham. Another nearly season I reckon. They have strengthened well, and a young team now has the experience of a title challenge. They will only get better.

3rd Liverpool. Under Klopp I can see us going places this year. We have a very strong attack and Klopp has an 8 month head start on a fair few managers.

4th Arsenal. Haven't strengthened at all in my opinion but Wenger has vast experience in this league and will find a way to retain his 4th place trophy.

5th Man United. A lot of peoples favourites, but I'm with Waro here. I don't see that they have improved drastically, and they have forced some of their top young talents into the fringes.

6th Leicester. Strengthened well but the extra games will take as much toll as the loss of Kante.

7th Chelsea. Conte has not strengthened enough. Kante and Batshuayi have come in, but they won't have enough to improve massively on last season.

Believable2 Unbelievable14

13 Aug 2016 13:57:55
I think you've overrated Spurs there. I don't think they've strengthened anywhere near enough. Wanyama is one of the poorest midfielders I've seen in the prem, yet people seem to rate him because he's physical, ignoring that he has no footballing ability whatsoever. To call him average would be an insult to average players.
They have however signed a backup to Kane in Janssen, who I haven't seen play so won't judge, however the Eredivisie can be hit and miss for signing players.
That's the only 2 signings they've made, so I'm unsure how you think they've strengthened well.
I do think they could sneak into the top 4 though, just ahead of Arsenal.

13 Aug 2016 14:17:37
Wanyama won't be first choice. Demembele and Dier will be.

Janssen is being massively underestimated as well. He is a very good striker.

Eriksen, Alli and Lamela are all still progressing rapidly and are nowhere near their peaks yet. And they already had the best defensive record in the league and have held on to the 4 key components in that defensive set up; Dier, Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Lloris.

If City were not so strong I'd probably have Spurs down as my favourites. They have a really young team that is only going to get better. The only thing they really lacked last season was cover for Kane and decent full backs. They have got the cover for Kane now, but nobody in the league has good full backs!

It is not all about money spent. Younger teams will naturally improve as they gel together and get closer to the peaks of their individual careers. Leicester's back 4 was made up of players in their late 20's and early 30's. Players at their peaks or already on the verge of decline. Tottenham built a better defence out of much younger players though. In my opinion they are being massively over looked. Ignore their quality at your own peril! They will be right up their this season.

{Ed041's Note - i think he will be first choice.

13 Aug 2016 15:19:11
I think he will whilst Dembele is out injured. But as soon as Dembele is back, I will be surprised if he keeps his spot.

13 Aug 2016 15:21:04
I agree that Wanyama will be a backup, but what improvements have they made to their first team. Janssen will start as a backup to Kane, yet that have Son was there only backup of quality in any of the forward positions last year and they haven't added to that. Personally I'd start Son ahead of Lamela anyway.

Their other backups aren't good enough. Mason's a decent player to be fair, I've mentioned Wanyama already, I don't rate Bentaleb, and apart from Son they have no other backups to Lamela, Alli and Eriksen, as it seems Chadli will leave.

With CL this season I don't think they've improved their squad nearly enough. They do have a good first XI but the quality in their entire squad is severely lacking. Dembele also misses the first few games of the season which is a massive loss for them.

I realise they will probably still dip into the transfer market but to challenge for the league they need another 4 or 5 players imo.

13 Aug 2016 16:00:38
I think they may start slowly, You. But I think they have good depth still. Onomah is a very good young player who can cover behind the striker also.

They have Lloris, Vorm, Walker, Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Davies, Dembele, Mason, Dier, Wanyama, Carroll, Son, Lamela, Alli, Eriksen, Onomah, Kane, Janssen etc.

That is 20 players good enough to start in the premier league. I really don't think depth will hold them back. They have a perfect sized squad. Small enough to be coached, but big enough to cope with injuries. The Europa league is far more intense than the CL and they still challenged for the title last season whilst playing in that.

I know they are losing right now, but I just think they will be very strong this season. They are being written off because they haven't signed lots of players at big prices, but they have strengthened simply by holding on to the very young spine of their team, who will all improve with age and the experience of last season.

13 Aug 2016 16:24:54
I don't rate Carroll, showed good potential as a youngster but has never pushed on. Haven't seen much of Onomah yet. You've forgotten Wimmer who did well when Vertonghen was out last season, but with Vertonghen's injury history I think they need another cb.

Mason's the only backup midfielder they have that I rate in any way. They have no-one to replace Dembele to a high standard when he's out and imo he's the most important player in their team.

I also disagree with the EL being more intense than the CL. Most English teams play their 2nds or 3rds in the EL and skate through the groups rarely using any starters. You can't do that in the CL and their premier league results will suffer because of it.

I do think they could still have a good season, but I think they'll be challenging for 4th rather than the title.

13 Aug 2016 18:27:08
Why the F has the Liverpool page turned into a debate about Spurs. Liverpool will finish above them, end of story.

13 Aug 2016 18:50:41
Sorry Hughes, your Highness. Didn't mean to bother you by discussing a team that are in direct competition with Liverpool this season, and just how much of a threat they could pose to us.

I hope Liverpool do finish above them. I just don't expect it.

13 Aug 2016 19:17:24
Didnt both Spurs and West Ham finish above us last season, 8th was very poor, we have much more fire power now so there is no excuse if we don't get top six, top four your thinking, no left back and same goalie I am saying . and we have a very tough start, but this has to be a better season .

13 Aug 2016 13:03:26
Hector has said now a new contract at koln, hopefully that stops that link.

{Ed002's Note - Juanma signed on Thursday.}

13 Aug 2016 12:02:25
I was under the impression that he was signed for the u23's, is he ready for the first team?

{Ed002's Note - I expect that he will be in the U23 squad - some of which will supplement the first team squad. Until we get through the next two weeks and Liverpool clear the decks a bit it will be hard to see where we are.}

13 Aug 2016 12:42:25
Cheers ed do you think he may be ready for first team.

{Ed002's Note - You would need to ask someone who watched him play in the Liverpool reserves recently but it has been noted that he doesn't speak English.}

13 Aug 2016 13:56:05
Dezy, I saw him against MK Dons less than 2 weeks ago. A few people keep asking so I'll do a quick analysis (bear in mind it is based on 60 minutes in a friendly though) .

He is very quick and also quite strong. Looks a little unbalanced at times though. His pace got him out of trouble a few times, making some great recovery slide tackles. Had he got back into position though I he could've avoided needing to go to ground. So he needs to work on his positional sense and awareness. He is very good on the ball though. Brewitt hit a pretty pacey pass at him at one point, which bounced up awkwardly. Juanma controlled it pretty comfortably though and that was a theme throughout his game. His control is excellent. He is good at running with the ball, but over ran it a couple of times so he needs to learn to get his head up when moving with the ball. One of his runs drew a very bad tackle on him which saw him leave the pitch with an injury. The only other thing I would mention is his passing. He was very good with quick one touch link up play. It was this link up play particularly with Woodburn that did most of the damage in the game I saw. In the hour I saw of him, he never actually got a chance to whip in a cross, but I remember reading that on his debut for the youth team he whipped in a cross to set up Brooks Lennon for a goal so if that is anything to go by, he has everything to potentially become a good attacking full back. I have my doubts over him defensively though. Then again, are there ant full backs nowadays who are great defensively?

13 Aug 2016 15:39:18
It's one or the other with full backs to be fair

Thanks MK.

13 Aug 2016 11:12:34
The anxiety ends tomorrow. I can't wait for tomorrow. A big test awaits, win or lose tomorrow, we will still have a good season I think. I have never been this excited. It would've been merrier if we had signed Chilwell and Karius was not injured.

Big shout out to all Down Under Reds! Monday morning 1am kick off. Good job I work for myself from home :)
This time last week I was checking out the new main stand development at Anfield. I'm now back in QLD and looking forward to the new season with nervous/ skeptical optimism. The last time we won the league was the year I left Liverpool. That's a long time waiting. The title may be a fanciful dream for this season, but not impossible.

Believable7 Unbelievable2

13 Aug 2016 06:07:46
No better way to start the season than with 3am stay up! I'm still considering calling in sick!

13 Aug 2016 10:32:00
I don't start until midday, I'll be fine :)

13 Aug 2016 11:42:45
If the last time we won the league was the year you left, then stop being selfish and move back to Liverpool! You could be the superstitious key; you could be bigger than Ken Aguero's pants!

13 Aug 2016 01:32:04
The league is wise open this ye imo, Mourinho imploded at Chelsea but has got the players he wanted at United and should be abl to mount a challenge. Spurs could end up winning it as much as they could finish 7th, Unpredictable. Leicester may surprise a few but have lost Kante which effectively takes 2 midfielders out of their team and could expose drinkwater, who will have to drink a lot of water to cover even half of what kante did for Leicester. Chelsea having the extra man advantage with kante along with Conte's Mourinho esq parking of the bus scares me and they could 1-0 win the to the title. City have Pep, King of possession footie, but have bought the overrated Stones for a whopping figure and his mistakes could cost them, kompany is their only reliable defender and he's injury prone, their season rests on Aguero's dodgy fitness. Arsenal is football's only unchanging factor and Wenger will no doubt inspire them to another 4th place finish but only after an early title charge, and them commicle, Rome esq implosion. Still haven't adressesd their problem areas, striker and cb. As for Liverpool Rome wasn't built in a day, and I expect Here Klopp to make further strides forward getting a top 4 spot or maybe even pulling a Leicester. Pre-season is no indication of how we'll do as beating the likes of Fleetwood, a rock band according to Klopp and a Barcelona side with the collective fitness of Wayne Rooney to put it into perspective doesn't really tell us much.

Believable4 Unbelievable5

13 Aug 2016 07:01:46
im with ron keauge in that none of the other teams or managers scare me, we have the manager and players that can do a lot of damage this season, let's give it all we have got and see where that takes us, our attacking players are some of the best in the league, I only hope that our key players can stay injury free.

13 Aug 2016 07:19:03
But he also had the players he wanted at Chelsea. His team were champions.

13 Aug 2016 12:50:03
Time will tell if we have made a big difference to our side, at the end of last season, just about every Reds fan wanted a new goalie and left back in, yes we got a new goalie, I do think he will do very well with us, but should we have got a more experienced one, not sure if he will do well in his first season, just hope that he is our future goalie, not going to mention our left back situation, could be our downfall, klopp is the best manager for us, but he has not addessed our weakessed area, but in Mane, we have a future world class player in our team, so anything is possible .

12 Aug 2016 20:14:21
