its a disgrace if we have to sell agger to raise funds for other players what chance are fsg giving rodgers if he has to sell agger,to bring in other players, fsg passing the buck here, cause they dont want to spend some money,if things go bad they will probably sack rodgers come end of season, and then sell club getting out with as little money lost as possible, hope i am wrong but to me its starting to look this way, with the way rodgers has this no win situation facing him with a player that is clearly good enough to play for club and wants to stay.fsg get ur act together fast where the big time not small stuff like red sox.ray

FYI Red Sox have one of largest payrolls in MLB. Struggling with management and player motivation but backed financially. Your comment is inaccurate. Ps I am over in Boston for the summer. The fans of the Sox here think Enry ha forgotten about them and has committed all girls time and money to us!

I was okay with this dirge until the part about 'not small time like the Red Sox'. Do you know anything about MLB or the Red Sox at all? I'm guessing no otherwise no way you would say that....

Are you a secret billionaire, that can spend loads of money on the club, nope didnt think so. get behind the team and show your support no matter what mate

I stand by my comments as regards saying red sox are small time compared to liverpool,as regards fan base, potential,and money making,and i am not saying nothing wrong about red sox,but come on lads they aint got near the potential of liverpool as a buisness,and fsg are in it to make money in the long run,so should they not back us more in transfer market with new manager,knowing that the will make there money back ten fold,and i am well aware of mlb,and whats happening at the moment with red sox,but i have 1 team and 1 team only that is liverpool and i want the best for them,and i am 100%behind rodgers,and to keep agger and not sell for 20million r so and not replace him which that money will not do.ray {Ed002's Note - The Red Sox are worth roughly double what Liverpool is worth as a business. As for income, they have a minimum of 81 home games per season. Go figure.}

whats peoples thoughts on shelvey? so far this season i think he looks like he's improved remarkably but my 1 concern is still that he is rash in the tackle, he may just be over eager to win the ball back and impress or he may just be a bad tackler but either way i think if rodgers can work on that part of his game then he's looking like an extremely good prospect and has probably played himself in front of henderson as a back up CM so far (not withstanding any other midfield signings who come in) but i still have that little niggling feeling that he is a red card waiting to happen or he's going to give away a silly foul on the edge of the box, could be wrong of course :)

Looks better than Henderson, that's for sure.

Look at most class midfielders, they all have to know how to put authority to that part of the pitch, Jonjo is learning that.
Piddy.

I seem to remember a certain Lucas Leiva being a little bit rash in a tackle, and look how Brazils captain turned out. Shelvey will replace the unreplaceable. He is a top class talent.

This to any eds, me personally would drive agger to the city stadium for 23 million, due to his playing time, and Liverpool have a ready made replacement in Martin Kelly, and also think joe Allen will turn out to be a great addition, ps, why don't we go after Neil ruddock aswell as back up

And what about Kelly's injury proneness? Or Gerrards? Sell them too?

13 Aug 2012 22:47:29
if we get dempsey, tello and sahin, i actually think we have a squad capable of challenging for more than just top four.

abit optimistic maybe, but i really think we can. BR used a championship squad to get to 11th in his first season, with a much better squad, he'll do better. hes got plenty of quality here, if those 3 were to come we'd have a very strong squad.

but i think Adam will leave if Sahin comes.

Kaizer

You 100% right mate. We have a strong team already. We just need 2-3 more as u mentioned. We'll see what happens.

13 Aug 2012 22:41:45
Skrtel is in!! New long-term contract has been agreed. So now, we have to concentrate on Agger. We are not under pressure to sell Agger, unless a ridiculously insane bid is made. I'm hoping we can get Tello and Dempsey. Plenty to look forward to this season.

{Ed002's Note - xThe fans are living in the past and need to look forward and not back. Time comes, move on.}

Bit harsh that Ed002. If you have ever read my posts, they are nothing but looking to the future, being positive and all that.

Just genuinely curious. That, and I do have a bit of a man crush for our Xabi...

Stone YNWA.

How quick all these man crushes will turn to hate if an over the hill Alonso does return one day and fails to deliver....

For the Allen/Rodwell debate, Rodwell's fee is meant to be an initial £12m so I'd take him for that rather than Allen for £15m. Also, where's this £12m figure for Cazorla come from that keeps being mentioned by Arsenal fans? Everything I've seen has said the fee was around 20m Euros, which is definitely more than £12m! Either way I reckon Liverpool have vastly overpaid. If Newcastle do push through this deal for Vurnon Anita (the Dutch international midfielder from Ajax) who's apparently going to cost around £6.5m then we'll have had Anita (£6.5m), Cabaye (£4.5m) and Tiote (£3.5m) all for less than Liverpool have paid for Allen. Who would you rather have - a Dutch international, French international and Ivory Coast international, or a Wales/Team GB international who mastered the art of passing sideways and backwards while playing for Swansea?'

I really hate it when people do this," would you rather have such and such for this much or such and such for this much" it is completely pointless and completely different scenarios. We could write all day saying "oh would you rather two
young ronaldos for 20 mill or Torres for 50" do you see!?
And do you know what I would rather Allen because he is the missing piece
of the puzzle. Btw we couldnt buy Cabaye for that price now because he is worth like 20mill now....

You have just mentioned three player that all do different things put them together and you have Joe Allen.Do not worry how much he cost but whether he adds value to the team.

That's great business for Newcastle united

Katana 12m also

We should have brought in Messi when he was 8 as well. What were we thinking?

I see you forgot to mention the French flop you signed from united last season for several million.

Heskey was an England regular for years. Bale and Bellamy were only welsh/GB internationals. Your not only cherry picking your better signings but your point actually has no validity at all.

It makes me laugh this post! If we were to go after unknowns like the 3 Newcastle players were until they signed you would be moaning because they werent household names but because Newcastle took a chance and it worked you are saying why dont we do this! Maybe they wouldnt have been the same at Liverpool, lets see if they do it consistantly, not saying they won't but you never know.
John Wigan

An Allen/Rodwell debate then you just go blurgh blurgh blurgh blurgh.
Or is it just me that doesnt see a debate?
Piddy.

After spending endless hours on this site and reading all the expert analysis about transfer dealings, I decided I have had for the day and switched over to the playboy channel to see if it could shift my mind away from LFC footy stuffs. But Lo and behold, I slept off and fell into a brief trance.
In this trance, someone tapped me on the left shoulder and pointed to the TV screen and what I saw would surprise even the incurable persimists; on the screen were Dempsey, AJ, Ramirez, Sahin and another spanish striker- whom I was made to swear to an oath of secrecy not to reveal his name- all holding the YNWA LFC scarf and smiling at the camera. Then i turned to the guy who tapped my shoulder ealier and he looked so much like Alonso, even though he had a scouse assent. He said to me: "Have some faith boy, for number 9 and many more are on the way." Make of this what you will. Gd 9t

FURTE APACHE

I have no idea what to say.

Sounds like someone's been taking lfc flavored acid haha

Burmesekraken

Seems legit

13 Aug 2012 22:23:40
Come on LFC,get a move on! Gona miss prime targets

13 Aug 2012 22:17:05
Alonso will not come coz
1)He is 31/32 which will be big no from our owners
2) He will be expensive in terms of wages even if he takes paycut
3)Owners are more interested in younger players coz they are cheap in terms of wages
4) He will not be same player when played for us 3/4 years ago coz of his age and slow pace of laliga
5) Best solution is we fans should move on and look to the future rather then past and let's be honest as we know our owners they will never invest in 32/33 old player coz they think as business point of view and we think as fans point of view for eg I am sure if anybody offers 20m+ for Gerrard they will be quick to sell him but we fans will never want to sell Gerrard as he is our legend but owners never think as we do coz they are bussines people who think with their heads and we fans think with our heart

Thanks {Ed001's Note - he would also sell more shirts than any other possible signing. The merchandising would be huge on any return for Xabi.}

Ed I agree - I also think that if Agger stays there will be a mad rush for shirts with his name on the back!

Yorkshire born, scouse bred (with butter)

Pace was never his strength so thats pretty irrelevant when you read the game faster than everyone else on the pitch ...take note Jan Molby and Gary McAlister didnt seem to have a problem playing a key role for us without pace and advanced in years in a similar role...and finally, by the speed Xabi is aging according to your post he will be about 87 by time he would join again anyhow ! (hes 30 by the way)

Red Til Dead

Ed1 mate ed2 has always sayed we don't get anything from shirt sells or merchandising.

Thanks

We don't get any money from shirt sales though ed.
Would be great to see him back though, he still has a lot to give us.

MIKEY

Alonso will never fit in rodgers style he doesn't have pace or work ethic. Rodgers like to close opposition quickly. Alonso is master when comes to counmter attacking style.but rodgers wants pace everywhere in our team

Haha red till dead I had to re-read his post to get what you meant "speed at which he's ageing..."
Quality.

Man City only sign mercenaries. Agger is no mercenary. He loves the club. He is commited to the club. He is a top player and his injury problems seem to have left him. If and I mean If we need to sell before we buy (I very much doubt it) then I would sell the likes of Spearing, Adam, Cole and Carroll to raise cash before I even considered selling Agger.

Lewis the Red

b.t.w. 'my contact' will be needing some live food for his geckos anytime soon ;)

I agree with you in principle, but unfortunately Spearing and Cole have little value and Carroll isn't exactly in demand either. Tough one for the owners- personally (and I have 0 inside knowledge, just a gut feel) but I think BR has targets that are beyond the owners ability to finance directly, so the choice was Suarez or Agger to finance those...

Cop on mate - 90% of players move for the money - lfc players included (they may then grow to love the club). Dont think you could call Kompany, Hart, Richards or Zabaleta mercenaries. As for Aguero call him what you want but as an LFC fan that lad gave me such joy in that split second!

13 Aug 2012 22:12:38
Sort of a side question if I may for everyone, but does anyone know who we have out for international duty midweek? From what I gather, Agger is out with Denmark, Carroll with England? Any others?

And do you see those players coming back in and starting on Saturday?

I think Allen with Wales.

13 Aug 2012 22:12:19
Seriously- Alonso back to the 'pool....that would be so good it can't be true??

13 Aug 2012 22:04:57
Great site eds thanks. Am I missing something here, but we have a player like agger who wants to play for us and is loyal. He is also top class and just the playr we need. Why is he being to touted around, have we learned nothing from the alonso saga which seems pretty similar? We talk very easily about who will replace him, but I would like to see the fans showing loyalty to him. {Ed001's Note - because he is injury prone and a slow healer.}

Agree with u completely

13 Aug 2012 22:02:05
Would anyone get sergio canales?

Valencia had just signed him recently.

Moved to Valencia this summer

Just signed a permanent deal with valencia a few weeks back!

Madrid might

13 Aug 2012 20:53:35
Eds do you believe rodgers will throw allen n borini straight in against west brom or will shelvey n sterling retain there places?
HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - I expect Borini to start, Allen might have to wait though.}

13 Aug 2012 20:14:58
Eds just a quick question! Would appreciate an answer! Who would you prefer walcott or johnson? And dempsey or tello? I would prefer walcott n dempsey! Anyone else have an opinion? HARDY1892 YNWA {Ed001's Note - which Johnson? I don't want Adam, his attitude has worsened in recent years and I don't want Walcott either, though I would rather Walcott of the two, if I really had to. Not sure on the other, don't see them as an either or option personally.}

For me, Dempsey and Tello. Walcott is alright, but I think he would be comparatively expensive (compared to Tello) and on higher wages. He'd probably be less willing to sit on the bench as well. Straight no thanks for Johnson, though.

13 Aug 2012 21:55:33
Liverpool looking to bring in Tello
Before the big kick off
Cheers
Mark

I don't understand the obsession with tello, he's not that good. he is fast, no end product. he doesn't get his head up. better players could be brought in even on loan

N'Gog is available

I agree with tello 'not so good' , just cant understand why all are so excited about him. Even his attitude is kinda cocky. Sterling way better than him. Dempsey and sahin will be just perfect.

13 Aug 2012 21:53:47
Redevon needs to stop following Agent49 on twitter. Everything he posts is repeated on here. Nothing he says is true just press stories doing the rounds again. Get a grip an be patient. Wombat

Im not on twitter, also never heard of agent 49. Skrtel contract has come from Liverpool Echo and LFCtv forum via Barrett of the Times. Tello and Ramirez come from LFCtv forum via Barrett of the Times. Redevon

13 Aug 2012 21:49:12
No disrespect but sod Sahin lets get Xabi back.....
I nearly wet myself earlier thinking about Alonso,Gerrard,Lucas,Allen.....
jonnybarnes89-90

BR likes to play 4-3-3 mate. Someone will have to get dropped

Sahin is still young tho and real will probly let Alonso leave next year so we can get both maybe

13 Aug 2012 21:45:07
sahin is a quality player and i would be made up if we can get him, I can see lucas leiva being the one to make way in a midfield 3 when we play against an equal or lower opposition at anfield when teams sit back and we dont always need a ball winning sitter. a centre midfield 3 of sahin allen and gerrard is quality and i think sahin could play as the deepest in an alonso role dictating the play gettin the ball of the centre backs plus i have seen him make many interceptions too even though thats obviously not one of his strengths. these 3 would dominate games with as all r technically gifted and provide a bit more quality on the ball when its tight at anfield.
against a top 4 side at home and most away games i would opt for lucas to sit as u do need that cover for the back four. i rate shelvey ahead of henderson in terms of ability so i dont see where jordan will fit in.

If indeed Sahin does come. It won't be Lucas picking splinters out of his asse,I can assure you of that my learned friend.
Jonson

What r u talking about? if u read my original post again, you will see that i am suggesting lucas will play more games than sahin. i was talking about the 10-15 games that we should control at home comfortably against lower or equal teams were teams park the bus and we struggle to break teams down and with anfield being a small pitch we will prob favour sahins playmaking and passing range to the more defensive lucas. how on earth did u come up with me saying lucas will be on the bench alot my uneducated friend

13 Aug 2012 21:41:48
Yawn yawn, Theo to join us he won't leave Arsenal just wanting more money better spending the money on Bebe!

I don't mind if all that happens is that Arsenal are forced to pay more money on wages then that's a positive -McMenemy

13 Aug 2012 21:36:42
Transfer news coming in.. Ramirez will sign for Inter Milan 15m so lets put that to bed, but we are after Nolito of Benfica loan to buy deal.. He had a 39m euro buy out but is unhappy and wants to get away.

I was listening to talksport on way home from work too ...

13 Aug 2012 21:33:41
Ed's, Do you think the club will force Agger out,as he or Rodgers doesn't want him to leave

alan50

Of course there american businessmen

13 Aug 2012 21:30:40
Oh and another thing... If Raheem Sterling played for Athletic Bilbao you'd all be shouting at the owners for us to buy him. We've already got him (good news) but he's young and needs development. BR will build a reputation for developing young players which will be second to none. Yous will definitely be agreeing with me in the future.

Oh and another thing (I'm thinking of this as a new catch phrase) - I predict that Joe Allen will be revered in the same way that utd fans (and most of the English public) think of Paul Scholes. I know I'll get pelters for referencing a utd player (no, I'm not Alan Brazil) but I think you'll agree with me in 10 years time (and if you don't you won't be able to find me anyway) Brian YNWA

What are you on about?

I will get abused too,but to be fair, paul scholes was the best midfielder in england for the last 20 years, thats not just my opinion, zinadine zidane agrees with me.
i think your new catch phrase is great by the way.

red jay

red jay

Zidane said Gerrard was the best midfielder in the world, so that doesnt make sense. Also better than Gazza?

13 Aug 2012 21:26:36
Regardless of replacements, of which Rodgers will do a great job, I would like the following to leave by August:
Spearing £2 million
Adam £6 million
Carroll £18 million
Total = £26 million
Ideal for me would be;
Left back to assist Enrique and upcoming Robinson
Sahin: ( loan )
Dempsey: £8 million
Walcott: If more than £12 million then someone else. Perhaps Ramirez £16 million? Or someone like Tello/Affelay?
RedSox69

Dude those skills of yours would be so unreal if you totally put them towards Manager Mode on FIFA. Pool would defo win the league!

13 Aug 2012 21:20:36
We should have learnt our lesson with Alonso. He was world class and had his best years approaching and we sold him. We are about to do the same with Agger. We can't attract world class players without CL football so why sell the ones we have got who want to stay.

Depends on how the fee we receive is spent and i would have more confidence in FSG and BR on that score than the management structure at LFC that handled the LFC sale. Dont think you can put Agger in the same class as Alonso in any case

Suarez is world class and he is here hmmmmmmmmmmmm

You're absolutely correct; there is an irritating irony in the fact we are unable to attract world class players to get us into the Champions' League without actually being in the Champions' League, but the thing is, we currently have a solid, very talented core perfectly capable of challenging for the top 4. It is a matter of under-performance and bad luck that is our problem, rather than not having good enough players; the only area we lack genuine talent is on the wings, and two signings should solve that. People say it's unrealistic for Liverpool to be in the top 4, but in terms of squad quality alone, what team apart from Man City actually has a better core than this?:

Reina

Johnson Skrtel Agger Enrique

Lucas Gerrard

Suarez

To the first reply, Agger is world class mate he is a footballer of the highest tier for his role as CB. If FSG was so good with their money we wouldnt have made those transfer last season and right now we would have enough money left to not sell Agger. I like what FSG are doing but selling Agger would be huge huge mistake and u guy s will be complaining about it in the future just like u want alonso back now.

13 Aug 2012 21:17:09
Anyone else think that If Agger is sold there might be a backlash ?

HERE WE GO!!
Now in your tiny over inflated ego
What sort of Backlash are you thinking of.

Let me Guess
The "Classic" handing in your season ticket and never to darken anfield ever again until the "Yanks" are out.
Or Maybe a Sandwich board with "Yanks" out!
Take a look at yourself.

Players come and go

Only if we start loosing

If you are talking about the fans on here they are very fickle and will support Rogers no matter what he does as long as he gets top 4

Fans will break out plus i feel players will loose faith in owners. That's no way to treat a player as talented, as skilled and as senior as Agger is.

Why can't anyone spell "lose" anymore?

Maffer

Agger is constantly injured he is at an age where the club could get maximum money for him. Think logically about it its good business if you can get 25 mil for a player who plays max 20 times a year

Maffer - it isn't just 'lose' that people can't spell. When I first started to look at the site I had to clench my fists to stop myself from getting on the keyboard to correct all the spelling mistakes. Glad I managed to curb my natural inclinations because I would have had to post about 300 times per day

I do love the pics of DAggers tattoo, and if the owners force a sale then they clearly don't understand how rare it is to find loyalty from a pro footballer these days. Not saying he will stay, but he clearly doesn't want to go to a rival EPL club. On a more artistic note, not sure about the font. I think Verdana might have looked cleaner. Brian YNWA. P.S. Goatherder, no news from the canine contingent?

Evening eds and fellow reds.

I've been a red for many winters now in glory and gore, and I've been extremely critical the last 4 years or so as I'm sure many others have.. But for this season I'm really optimistic! I've seen countless people trashing signings and offloadings, and beeing generally negative about Mr Rodgers start.

I for one are delighted with the start of his ascending, and believe this is a start of intent and determination to succeed. I have a few points that I would like to share..

Outs:
Dirk Kuyt - This man is a fantastic person, I've loved him since the start. Have allways given us and our team the best he can, and scored some very, very important goals. Sadly, the last season and a half he's been more or less plain bad. his only attribute is his work-rate. can't pass, can't beat people and has the creativity of a seabass. he was never meant to be a winger, so its not his fault, but I feel it was right to let him go.

Maxi - A genuin footballer, smart, skillful and had a taste for goals in periods. But lacked the pace of a winger. His age and other options I feel justifies his departure.

Aquilani - Who knows what he could achieve given the chance. But with that wage and ability? gtfo

Aurelio - Good player, nice memories, much injuries.

Ins:
Borini - I feel this man could be a joker in that sense that we had no natural goalscorer last season. Luis "Fantastic" Suarez had to create almost everything on his own last season and were sometime nowhere near goal. My hope is that Borini's pace, techniqe and intelligent runs will make our forwards job easier and annoy the hell outta defenders.

Joe Allen - Spank me silly with a cucumber, I can't believe we actually signed a player like that! He is just what we have been lacking! Pacy frickin' technical ballpassing and ballwinning warrior genuis! People who are raving why on earth we signed him can smell my disgusting feet till the end of days. Imagine Allen, Lucas and Gerrard in the middle. absolute joy. Best of all he could somewhat cover for lucas while our bright young men in Shelvey and Hendo are more than capable as backup. I think Shelvey should go on loan so we don't waste his vast talent.

Furthermore I think the prespect of Nuri Sahin (a long and short range passing machine of pure creativity) joining is awesome. A bit overkill, but awesome. It means that Rodgers plows the talented people in and sends a signal to Spearing and Adam that they should probably up their game "a bit".

Now what we need is forwards/wingers with pace, agility and imagination. Borini, Suarez and Downing I can live with. With Sterling as backup. Make no mistake that boy is/will be a beast. Carroll I like although he may depart. Dempsey is an underrated player I welcome. But I'll guess we'll see.

All in all I'm very excited for our season ahead, and I think we'll end up in the top 4. If not atleast challenge them ferociously. I can't understand the negativity agains FSG and Rodgers.

Also I don't think Agger will go. He loves us back and because thats just plain suicide by Liverpool. Regardless of unjuries, the only replacement is Pique.

Thank you.

Kind regards Vidar, Norway

Hi Vidar,

Good post that I agree with...

I just hope the players rumoured to be signing do so soon, so that they can integrate with the other players and Rodgers philosophy.

My only concern is that we have a difficult start and I hpe if things don't go as well as expected everyone doesn't get on the managers and players backs which occurs all so often.

Quality post! Agree 100%!

Ok outve interest, and before the abuse-its a banter site! If LFC have to sell to buy.And to get the players to fit Brendans style-Tello/Walcott-be whoever! Who would fellow Reds sell,as being of least value to LFC,or New set up-Carroll or Agger? Just outve interest, and debate! For me no-brainer-Would be Carroll !

It would be carroll based on the fact that will will not be playing to his strengths and we wont get the best out of the player, and why would u want to disrupt the centre back position now! mistakes there loose u games. id keep agger as the back 4 along with reina is up there with anyone elses in the prem, surely we can use money from cole carroll spearing and adam to sign the wide players / forwards we need.

13 Aug 2012 20:58:20
julian draxler is going to be better than ballack therefore we should sign him before he goes on to become a man utd legend

Why use Ballack as a marker and who's bothered about Man Utd legends?

And why do we need a 9th cm

13 Aug 2012 20:56:38
Looks like Skrtel will follow Suarez and Shelvey and sign a new contract. I really hope Agger gets one and rightly so, he wants to stay and is one of if not the best center backs in the league by a mile. If he is sold it will really be a bad decision. YNWA

One of the best in the world

Will next be spearing, suso and sama? Geddit?!

13 Aug 2012 20:51:36
Instead of people constantly posting on who we Should be buying (which gets more extreme by the minute) to enhance the team lets worry more about who it looks like we could be selling ...AGGER someone who knows the Liverpool way is suited to pass and move and with a great understanding with all our CBs ok 25 million is crazy money but even if it is all spent will we be a stronger first eleven without him or just a stronger squad

Carroll £17m
Adam £6m
Spearing £3m
Cole £2m
kuyt 1m
= 29m plus bellamy £2m = £31m

we can buy
Walcott £15m
Dempsey £8m
Quaresma £6.5m
Sahin loan

total spending would then be 25m (borini and allen)

So today, I was casually looking of a shirt in my wardrobe and I felt a cold breeze on my hand as I reached in I fell in to narnia as I got there I was told to follow the yellow brick road and at the end the was a hole were I had to crawl in a small door, that's when I entered wonderland, I then flew off with Peter pan when he told me that Ramirez, Walcott, Dempsey, sahin, Tello, affelay, Neymar and cavani would all sign and Agger would be sold for a straight swap with n.de Jong,so it must be true!!right?
People need to get real, this site, yes is for rumours and banter but I've heard some of the most ridiculous ideas ever, and people need to stop posting what they've heard from 'good sources', btw the metro or any other news paper is not a good source! Great site eds keep it up.

Peter pan lives in neverland! Not wonderland. But I get why you is sayin!

It's been sensible this season. You should have been on two years ago. I swear half the taxi drivers and Easyjet workers, we're constantly on breaks. All we got was I've just seen xxxx step off a flight from xxxx. Usually there wasn't a flight from xxx place, but that stopped nobody.

Good times.

Papa G

You can't say anything. You come here with a story like that and then have a go at people telling rumors. I don't know your sources but they sound fairly dodgy to me :P

guys, thoughts on Nuri Sahin? Haven't seen a lot of him to be honest and I was wanting peoples opinion on him. cheers

Danny

It doesn't matter.....we won't be signing him sadly

He is a world class midfielder and very similar to alonso.

13 Aug 2012 20:38:41
Tello has been told by his manager he will be playing for Barcelona b, so good chance of loan. Ramirez agent has been quoted that representatives of Liverpool have spoken to him, but they (LFC) haven't put in a bid. Redevon

13 Aug 2012 20:36:00
I am not sure about the liklihood of Sahin coming in. It seems to me that should Agger leave it will prompt 2 incoming players, A.Johnson maybe as part of the deal and a replacement cb, maybe williams from Swansea. I'd rather keep Agger to be honest. I've also heard alot of noise about G.Ramirez, any updates eds? Thanks

You need a filter on your ears

13 Aug 2012 20:32:12
If Barca are interested in Agger,LFC should use that interest as leverage for Tello. If we get Walcott,il;d rather IF danny has to go(and hope not!),get Tello than Adam Johnson

13 Aug 2012 20:23:09
agger could still be on citys radar the reason for this could be richards injury but more significantly mancini is going to play like wigan did last year i.e. 3-4-3 which is 3 at the back agger is key to this as he is left footed. this 3-4-3 system seems to be the new thing hope br has the antidote for it . as this stifles 4-3-3 opinions welcome.

alan waddle

Isn't lescott left footed?

3-4-3 does not counter 4-3-3

He's right it doesnt counter 4-3-3 it counters 'rock' or is that 'paper'... actually I forget now!

If city play 343 we will absolutely cream them at anfield, heres hopeing they do.

So you think 3 x 1 on 1s at the back is the way to go? I would have thought that 4 on 3 was a more promising structure.

Spurs have made a bid for Ramirez

Miner

Surely liverpool have on the last ten minutes...

Mighty reds

Don't worry, Liverpool bid on Ramirez every 12.67 seconds according to various media sources

We've made about 100 bids though.

13 Aug 2012 20:16:02
Hey Ed's, here's a list of wingers i've complied who would fit in with NESV/FSG's transfer policy and who i think would be great signings; James Rodriguez, Lucas Ocampos, Cristian Tello, Ahmed Musa, Juan Iturbe and Yevhen Konoplyanka. Is there or has there ever been any serious interest from us in any of these guys? and did we ever look at Ola John and Xherdan Shaqiri? both are going to be future stars, i believe.

hai ed pls post this...
saw the agger quote..
made me into tears...i stand and say salute to you..
whatever u are..wher ever u are sold...For me u are a legned..
he doesnt wanna go..but he will be sold to benifit liverpool fc..
I say you are a living loyal legend to liverpool
it takes a real commitment and paint to tatooo YNWA on ur knuckles...not too many people does that..
for me..you are priceless...
these are the moments and players which makes our club beloved..
i havent seen much CM in my naked eye who carries the ball forward and distribute as u do..
A soldier at the KOP end..
and i will never boo if you ever score against us...
You Will Never Ever Walk Alone...

Calm down mate hes is good but legends a of a strong word !

I would gladly start a petition against the sale of Agger, its disgraceful how the most loyal player gets treated ! I realy hope he does score against us if he joins city.

Same wailing when Torres was sold, the Suarez scored on his debut and it was Fernando who? Life goes on, if he has a poor season we'll see how loyal the Dagger fan club is then. Ged

Comparing the loyalty of Agger and Torres is like comparing the saintliness of the Dalai Lama and Charlie Sheen

Ed002, I know it's a very recurring topic, and always will be I suppose, but, why do you believe that Xabi Alonso will never play for LFC again?

I'm not doubting you mate, just curious really..

Is it simply because the club will not be willing to offer a 30+ year old huge wages? Or is it more than financial reasons?

Cheers,

Stone YNWA. {Ed002's Note - xThe fans are living in the past and need to look forward and not back. Time comes, move on.}

Ed..with all respect..we are looking back..and we always..be proud of our history and legends...alonso..is just masterclass....we fans live for liverpool...alonso..any day..even at the age of 80..is still a legend for me and wish to pass one ball forward at the kop end..
oh s***..i m srying today......dammmm

The moving finger writes and having written moves on..

Well said, Ed002.

Okay ed, I understand that, but if he becomes available surely it is an option. Why would we not go for someone with that much quality? He has said he would come back at a later stage in his career... obviously not this year but maybe next year or the year after.

BthekingB {Ed002's Note - He will be in the tail end of his career - it makes little sense.}

13 Aug 2012 20:13:05
Just a thought, but if we really are looking to sign Sahin, could it be that Rodgers is thinking of a midfield three of Sahin, Lucas and Allen, with a front three of Borini, Suarez and Gerrard? As I said, just a thought.

Jimbo

All about strength in depth and options mate. You could right, but I don't think BR will be too rigid and stick to one formation...

Wouldn't be a bad team
red branch

With so many CM may be a surprise with Gerrard for next season - maybe centre half alongside Skrtel. He strong in the tackle, ok in the air and clearly good with the ball. Maybe the perfect ball playing center half to replace Agger if he does go.

13 Aug 2012 20:13:00
Hopefully gaston ramirez will go to spurs not in the same league as joe allen. liverpool to suprise alote of people this year.also think dempsey would be a great signing ,thets hope its done soon. rico true red.!!!!

Have to disagree ramirez is every bit as good as allen if not better! It was only a month or so ago ramirez was the one everyone was crying out for rodgers to sign! Allen will be ace though! Should fit in perfectly! Agree on dempsey though i believe we should pay the 8 or 9 mill n get our man! He could be key to getting that fourth spot! His premier league knowledge n goal scoring are second to none! Hope we sign him up soon!

Daniel Agger has admitted he would like to stay at Liverpool, but admits the situation is out of his hands.

Manchester City and Barcelona are chasing Agger with Premier League champions City believed to have seen two bids already rejected for the classy central defender.

City are thought to be readying a third bid for Agger with Roberto Mancini keen to bring in the defender before the close of the transfer window.

It has been suggested Liverpool could be prepared to sell Agger for the right price as they could use the funds to strengthen the squad elsewhere.

Agger, who is away on international duty with Denmark for Wednesday's friendly with Slovenia, claims he is unaware of interest in his services and hopes he can stay at Anfield.

"No, I haven't heard anything, Agger told Ekstra Bladet when asked about his future.

"That is how the club wants to do it. I would prefer to stay.

"I can't imagine playing for other clubs in England. But, you never know if the club prefers to sell me."

It's bad enough we have to sell our world calss players because we aren't in the UCL, but when they even want to stay.....torture. Really hope he stays...

Haha well if agger goes that confirms ynwa is just a load of waffle

Legend...for me..and for all those liverpool fans...so many came and went..even rush..
but it take real love to say..i want to stay..wen u are worth to be in a barca team..
ed..there are really someting money cant buy

Can someone please tell me what we need with Nuri Sahin now we have just signed a much younger and better version of him in Joe Allen? An ariel bombardment player we already have in Charlie Adam, so why oh why would we want to sign Sahin ? Can better put our efforts into signing Tello for the right wing and then letting young Raheem have his left wing because so far he has more than deserved it. Would be better moving for Tello if noone else comes before the transfer windows shuts.

YNWA!

Andy

Allen is 22 and Sahin is 23...You don't have a clue...LOL

Red PG

Sahin is much better than Allen atm. Sure he was injured last season, but if he recaptures the form he showed for Dortmund we would be stupid not to at least try get him

13 Aug 2012 19:46:32
I don't know about anyone else, but I am starting to get some really positive impressions the way the BR regime is beginning to develop. As with KK it was from the heart, with BR is from the head. I am daring to believe this season could provide a few surprises, there will be some disappointments obviously, but overall I believe we will exceed our expectations. Just a couple more signings.......

Excuse me Ed's but I compiled a post early this afternoon and you haven't posted it. I'm really annoyed because I haven't made anything up I just tried to summarise the situation with the available information and it's not gone up. Sort it out!
Thanks, a very pissed off Amadeus.

Hi Ed's,

Just want a bit of clarification regarding any Nuri Sahin deal. Firstly I'd like to say I think he is a fantastic talent. However I can't understand why we are trying to sign yet another CM. We have Gerrard, Lucas, Adam, Allen, Shelvey, Suso, Henderson, and Spearing. Now although I feel Sahin is better currently than most of them, surely we don't need another CM?

Also, if we didn't manage to get Dempsey, would Carroll still be in line to be sold? And is it possible we would aim for a younger striking option?

Thanks Ed's

If liverpool can pip Arsenal to Sahin that will be an astonishing signing.

BthekingB

I know what you mean arsenal are a top club and the lure of london will make it very difficult for lfc to get him

13 Aug 2012 19:18:34
Inter Milan plan double swoop on Daniel Sturridge AND Theo Walcott.
vrcomp
Y.N.W.A.

Rubbish. Inter will sign Ramirez, Walcott would rather join LFC than Inter, and Sturridge is going to either Spurs or nowhere.

Why would walcott rather join lfc rather than inter?

Vrcomp, are you arsenal, everton, Man Utd or spuds in disguise?

Because Inter like Liverpool are in the Europa league, he's a liverpool fan and it's unlikely he will want to leave England

13 Aug 2012 19:18:32
Hi Eds,
There has been news circulating today that Dempsy is in Liverpool having a medical and Walcott is trying to push himself out the door to try and sign for us.
Is any of this true?
Cheers {Ed019's Note - dunno}

What a great answer
Tommy.

Cheers, where did you get your info?

LOL Quality ED!

"dunno" come on ed019 you can surely offer more to your posters that that reply, really!

Alot of us would give our right arm to be an ed.

Jimbob {Ed019's Note - Mate if you had to answer the same questions again and again you'd do the same. Anyway, Dempsey is not having a medical yet and we haven't made a bid for Walcott}

13 Aug 2012 19:18:02
If Sahin was so adament on CL footie, the deal wouldnt have got this far. Clearly he is interested in coming here.

Maybe xabi put in a word for us.

Oh btw, Aggers been offered a new deal today according to LFCglobe on twitter

13 Aug 2012 19:10:27
Irrespective of whether we cash in on Agger or not some fans are mistakenly bemoaning the fact we are becoming a selling/feeder club. I'm old enough to remember similar such fears when we sold Keegan to Hamburg. Little did we know this was the catalyst to us signing arguably the greatest player in our history, namely King Kenny. The rest, as they say, is history. 10 years on from that we lost Ian Rush to Juventus. Similar prophecies of doom and gloom were vanquished the following season when we witnessed some of the finest brand of free flowing, attacking football our club, indeed this country, has ever witnessed. On to the present day and we have the "Agger" chronicles. He is probably the finest footballing CB we've had since Alan Hansen. But for his chronic injury record I'm sure we'd have been fending off the vultures for many years now. My point is I don't doubt Daniel's love and commitment to our club but each player, throughout the history of time, has a price. Furthermore, Messi aside, is there a player you can deem irreplaceable? I would love Agger to stay but who's to know, we might just unearth the next Alan Hansen if he goes. Football moves in cycles of success and failure. Players come and players go. If we are to sell Agger I would hope we get true market value for him and preferrably to a foreign club. Daniel, when fit, has been good for us and Lfc has been loyal and patient with him particularly during times of extended abscence through injury. I'm sure every fan would wish him well for the future just as much as they'll get behind whoever comes in to fill the considerable void he'd leave behind.

Paul, Staffs

Good points there Paul thought it was the end of the world when keegan went but after watching kenny a few games into the season i'd soon forgot & also remember being inconsolable when rush went juve but when we started spanking teams 4&5 nil it certainly lessened the blow ah great days! Y.n.w.a paisley's genius

Very well said, I agree with every word you said. Roblfc86

I agree completely. as much as i would be absolutely gutted to see agger leave, if we get £25m+ it would i have to admit be a good deal. the only thing that seriously worries me is the replacement. if a gem is found like you suggest then great, but we're looking at godin/amorebieta/williams. they are nowhere near good enough. godin is dodgy against good players, as is amorebieta who is really slow as well. i'm really worried we might even get williams (i don't wanna even contemplate that). the thing is, if fsg want to reduce the loss on previous players bought by selling agger, that would suggest we aren't gonna spend much on a cb, therefore the quality of our defence will be drastically reduced, and i guarantee skrtel will be nowhere near as good without agger

sources close to me are saying that adam johnson will move to everton on a year long loan deal as part of the rodwell deal.

also been told that rodwell will actually be used as cover for centre back even though he plays CM, so city will now not make a move for dagger.

good news overall i think. adam johnson is overrated and would rather prefer we go after walcott or any other decent winger. im positive that BR will get the best out of theo.

YNWA shaun

Id say your spot on there mate. rodwell mentioned that he can play centre back so you could be right.

i think if theo was to come then he would link up with stevie, suarez etc alot better than adam johnson. walcott just needs a new challenge thats all.

13 Aug 2012 18:59:51
Ive wrote on here few times never made the site ive heard we are consiering rossi on loan with an option to buy if villareal dont come straight back up as they dont want to lose them straight away i just id run it by the eds see had heard anything and if not do u think could be an option {Ed002's Note - Not a chance with him out ingured through next spring.}

Erm Ed I think you're wrong on this one. It makes perfect sense to take a player on loan for the season and pay his wages, even though he will be missing for 75% of it. Smarten up Ed.
CQ
Ps put money on kieren dyer being a surprise loanee

13 Aug 2012 18:54:36
A Johnson to EFC on loan is mooted as part of the Rodwell deal, if true do you think this has any influence on Agger to City?

13 Aug 2012 18:53:00
Ed. Regarding Macca's latest bit of info. Would you guys not agree that Liverpools midfield is overflowing with CM and players of that sort? Why so much interest in Sahin or Dempsey. If captured, Sahin, Dempsey, Allen, and Jonjo will have to fight for spots. Assuming we sell/loan adam and spearing. I don't understand. We should be looking at another forward

Well to start Dempsey will be up top with borini and suarez

Squad game man , squad game
5gold stars

Wouldn't Dempsey play the left side of the front three? Redevon

Remember last year on deadline day we let go off meireles, cole, aquilani, poulsen and all of a sudden when gerrard, lucas, adam became injured in different times of the season our so midfield heavy squad looked so trimmed that henderson was burnt out, spearing played in a cup final and we looked awful..
a minimum of 7 midfielders are needed in a squad when playing with 3 in the centre and 55+ games a season..sahin can also cover enrique..
plus dempsey would be in the front 3 anyhow..

Dempsey would be middle of 3 if that were 3 up top.
allen lucas
gerard sahin ramirez
suarez
would be my preference
5gold stars

Would agree with the others- I don't see Dempsey playing in the midfield 3 of a 4-3-3 but in the front. He could potentially play as a CAM (Gerrard role), but think he'd be better suited for either LF or RF slot.

13 Aug 2012 18:51:45
Hi eds,I hope this question u must have answered thousand times but i'm asking u first time, hope u answer it.If suppose u were in BR's position right now given the situation he is facing with limited money for transfers, sentimental issues like selling of Agger etc.who would u like to sign ( with amount inclusion plz.) & whom u'll sell.
holy_red... {Ed019's Note - Sell Carroll, Keep Agger, Buy Dempsey, Sahin, Tello, Walcott, buy a striker. But it is not as simple as that}

13 Aug 2012 18:45:14
Adam Johnson is a lost talent not focusing on Football.

No way we should accept him and 20M/+ for Dagger. He is not welcome

It should be straight cash.

I do hope BR don't do a Kenny and sign a over expensive replacement. Teams would be ready to screw us at the death just like Newcastle did with Carroll. They know we have money and are desperate.

I suppose BR would now have a replacement lined up/on stand buy.

Not sure of that Bilbao's Vanezuelan defender. Godin would be of my Choice if not Mehdi Bennattia of Udenese.

Verthongen would have been a ready made replacement, good ball playing CB much like Dagger for 12-15M good deal.
We should have moved for him.

I really don't know what to do but a bid of 27-30M would be enough. IT's either way a kind of hard to accept.

Loosing a player of great loyalty against his well who is among Europe's best Center halves, on the other hand an
injury prone defender who with whom we could fetch great deal of money,a chance we might regret..

I feel for Dagger... for me the loyalty he has shown has earned him a place in my heart among other LFC legends.

You will never walk Alone Dagger...

hi guys, just been on the lfc website and was looking at the squad numbers and realised that pacheco has completley lost his number and is bottom of the list? im not sure why this is. could be leaving? if this is the case i for one would be quite dissapointed as i think hes never really been given a real good crack of the wip at anfield. what do you think eds? all the best. van shep

He has had plenty of chance to show what he can do, just cant cut it at a higher level

13 Aug 2012 18:43:24
According to AS (Spain) Sahin's heading to the Emirates. So much for BR being friends with Mourinho! Arsenal way too strong now. Can't see us taking fourth place.

Go to the AS page and translate it, it may change your mind a wee bit.
K79

Haha because they have signed Sahin dont make me laugh we have two much more rounded holding midfielders.
Why because they have bought an inconsistent Podolski (Who I believe will be good for the START of the season) who struggles to live up to his 2008 form.
A sub standard winger in Carzola who again I believe is good but not game changing like everyone on here seems to bleet on about because he signed for Arsenal. They already have a better players in Chamberlain and Gervinho.

Kopping a feel

Carzola,SUB STANDARD get a grip mate or better still have a lie down haha

Sub-standard Spanish international Cazorla. Get a grip mate. Would walk into the Liverpool team

Podolski yeh very inconistant at the age of 27 has 100 caps for Germany, you lot are deluded jelous fans!

Both of you are right and both of you are wrong, I will agree Santi carzola is a class player and I would Believe he would make the Liverpool team.
Regarding podolski he has to prove himself, at Munich he was unable to produce any quality even though the bundesliga has lower quality teams.

What you don't have is a joe Allen.

Kind regards

why is everyone harping on about clint dempsey!tell me is he world class?no hes 29 looks and performers well for a team where expectation not that high but wait didnt a certain charlie adam look gd and score for fun at blackpool ?then put him into better team soon found out!for me he can stay at fulham cause he aint what we should be aiming for as a signing or have we fallen that far now!

Senseless post

Clint Dempsey is one of the most physical players I've ever seen, he puts 110% into every game and he gets goals, it is for those reasons why I would love him at Liverpool.

{Ed006's Note - He's like an American Dirk...}

We need the experience, goal scoring and tenacity Dempsey has up top imo he would tear it up with Suarez and borini.

firstly just want to say jan moby talks utter sh*t on the lfc tv. great player in his time but on tv dont have a clue. if we sell agger to city and have johnson as part of the deal. it will be the worst thing to happen. johnson is not that good thats why he cant get near the first team. his head is up his own backside. we dont want him there is better players out there. we need to keep agger.

Agreed. He has an accurate shot but not much else. We need someone with real pace and the potential to improve. We also need a guy with a bit extra, a bit of magic in the final third. Instead of 16 m for Walcott who only has pace, we should add 10m to it and sign Munian.

*Attention Please* I am most certainly not a 'Lad' as it was put. I'm a 32 year old women Hence the name Maisey. Take notice of my posts.

On another note the Editors of the website do a fantastic job but its a wonder they have a website at all because the people that post information just seem to get slated i mean you like the site or you don't but no one wants to listen to you all slagging each other off about some information someone has given. People take the time to Summarize or they take the time to share what they know or they take the time to ask a question or to lie. Either way they still post and with out posters there is no site it's called RUMOURS not TRUTH ONLY. Much of this transfer talk is open to speculation and rightly so but If a woman has no right to comment on a rumours website because everyone would prefer a Pre-pubescent teen bored to death spending half his time thinking up weird and wonderful transfer stories to cause a stir then what kind of Anti-feminist club is this? To put it simply I will post what i hear and what i know unless a genuine poster is not welcome.

Xabi Alonso will sign for Liverpool NEXT summer. Madrid have a lot of options in midfield and Alonso will be 31 next summer, and Madrid will want to cash in after Alonso rejected a contract extention.

Thanks. YNWA.

Walcott - £15m
Dempsey - £3m Plus Adam
Sahin - Loan

Carroll - £17m
Spearing - £3m
Bellamy - £2m
Cole - £2m but we give it all +£1m to cole saving £7.5m in two years worth of wages
kuyt - £1m
= £30.5m - £18m = £12.5m - £25m = £12.5 spent in the summer, minus another 450k pw in wages

= balance.

Bellamy gone for nothin get your facts right

If you were a fulham supporter would you be happy with adam an 3 million think not so dont talk sh*t

Lol classic mate, fulham could paint adam gold and stick him out the front with michael jackson as a matching pair, seeing as adam is as quick as jacko and hes soda bread...lol

Walcott won't sign stop saying he will

13 Aug 2012 18:09:12
Hey ed got a question for u, I remember that players a certain age can buy out the last year of there contracts .. Is wallcot in that category? And if so how much would the buy out deal be? True red

{Ed002's Note - He is not and you can really forget that sort of ruling - it would not be an every day occurrence.}

If you start that carry on liverpool will be slated from pillar to post by every other prem team not to mention arsenal and every other team in europe will use a no holds barred dirty tactics campayne if they fancy an lfc player in short stay well clear of that tactic

13 Aug 2012 18:02:19
Is there any chance for agger to stay wit liverpool as we all no he loves the club! As noin our luck he wud go to city and always b fit every game lol

Yep,if he agrees the contract lfc have offered him and stops holding out for more money, the balls in aggers court

13 Aug 2012 18:00:09
Not particularly for liverpool, but is there any interest in landon donovan from other clubs? Always thought he was gud enough to remain in the PL {Ed002's Note - I doubt he will leave the MLS before the end of the season at least.}

liverpool are very weird in the market this summer. last summer we made loads of signings now we have had 2 signings in 2 months and we have had very strong rumours for ramirez and dempsey for a few days then they go the day after.

13 Aug 2012 17:46:50
If we were to sign

Sahin (Loan)
Ramirez (£18m)
Dempsey (£8m)

Then I for one would be very pleased with the business we have conducted this transfer window. I believe we have an awesome young forward in Borini. As well as A up & coming top midfielder in Allen. Im looking forward to the new season.

rumours are going around that liverpool have had a 18 million pounds bid accepted for bolognas striker gaston ramirez
source:caughtoffside.com/tags/premier-league/liverpool/
is this true? {Ed002's Note - Has it been confirmed on Twitter yet?}

Hello Eds and reds, I've been gone for a while (in jail) and haven't been able to see what's been happening.

Have we signed Gaston Ramirez yet? Have we signed Dempsey yet? Have we signed Walcott yet?

And has RedTurk posted anything positive since I've been gone (in jail) yet?

Thanks

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Blair im happy you had me in your thoughts, i do have something positive to say and that is i like brendans style, i feel he has made us play an attractive attacking style and im confident he will be looking for players with flair and the type of players kenny was buying, big and tall but crap on the ball. I was quite shocked and quietly admired our play against bayer in the first half, but i would say this when we put on hendo, spearo, carro and adamo on in the 2nd half we looked flat and kept going sideways and backwards similar to how we was playing last season, if brendan can spot the difference and realise these guys are average then i will have alot more confidence in him as our manager. RedTurk

I somehow doubt the " in jail " part to Blair's post have been added on by Ed002! Any update on the Pepecam Ed002?

AG {Ed002's Note - Actually I never added that AG. I am sure there will be an update later.}

I recorded the game RedTurk mate and watched it when I got in. Totally agree when Spearing, Adam and Hendo played in the centre they were all over the place. I've got a solution mate, sell Adam and Spearing keep Hendo as backup to Allen, Lucas and Gerrard.

I think Henderson has still got a lot to offer.

Blair Mayne YNWA JFT96

Liverpool have placed a bid for Walcott and are trying to secure a move for Adam Johnson.

Both of these players would add some much needed pace to our side, and could be the missing piece to our 'top 4 finish jigsaw'.

If we got Sahin aswell, then that would be the cherry on top!

Things are looking up for next season lads!

13 Aug 2012 17:18:39
Hello eds and reds!

Well who do you think is next in the list?Where do you think Sahin will end at?

A poster suggested earlier on that 'twitter rumours' be banned. I agree fully. Most of the "rumours" posted on here have originate from the farce that is twitter.

So-called "ITKs" giving minute "updates" of Rodgers' transfer dealings... Seriously now, huh?
CLOWNS, that's what they are, and so is anyone who entertains their "ITK" garbage.

I bet these are the same cretins who slate the club for "missing out" on players. Just now we supposedly we've bidded for Ramirez, Walcott and a thousand others.
These "targets" sign for other clubs and cue we've "missed out". "Miss out" on what?
Brendan Rodgers and LFC have their own targets, so they can't possibly miss out on twitter targets. If anyone's missed out on any target, it's the "ITKs" and their gullible, incredibly thick clown followers.
FOOLS!

Len {Ed002's Note - Unless posters say they are from Twitter I have no way of knowing. Large numbers of duplicates are already being deleted.}

Surely a big problem with this is that most rumours regardless of where they originate will end up on the likes of twitter as it's such a huge social network?

Iain YNWA

There is some rubbish on Twitter, of that there is no doubt, BUT and I say this with great humility Dear Eds, when a genuine story does come out it is definitely a very way of it getting into the public domain.

But it will NEVER BEAT THIS SITE, for quality feedback from the Eds, a good laugh from the trolls and of course its genuine supporters

Koptalk saying Ramirez to Liverpool is rumour is true.. So it must be true.

13 Aug 2012 16:04:44
Three bits of info for you.

First....Gaston Ramirez will not sign for LFC, he is close to a switch to Inter Milan. Sorry all.

Second....i believe one of our mystery loan signing's will be Benfica's midfielder Nolito.
He has a contract with Benfica till 2016 and a buyout clause near to £40 million. But he is unhappy where he is and would welcome a new challenge with a new club.

Third.....Alonso will not be making a return to Anfield in this transfer window. He has two years on his contract and will stay put for now and consider his options nest summer. He will be 31 then with 1 year left when a HOST of the top European clubs will fight for his signature.

He would be in our starting 11. Only man city and Chelsea in our league would struggle to fit him in.

Sahin pefers a move to Arsenal so it looks like we won't be getting him unfortunately

Whatever u say steve morrow

13 Aug 2012 15:56:10
What do u reckon should be the price of Theo Walcott if bought? Personally dont want him. Maybe maximum 7-8m not more considering last year of his contract.

U have 2 consider arsenal bought him for 5m plus add ons rising to 12m and will definitely want a profit.

They bought santi cazarola for jus 18m so buy paying them 12m or more for walcott v r jus helpin them recoup all there money spent

Take a look at Theo's goals and assists stats from last season and compare them to Downing, Henderson, Maxi, Bellamy, Kuyt, Adam, Carroll and even Stevie G.

His stats are better than all of them (almost combined!).

Thats why we want him, because he's better than a lot of the players we've got already (and he's still young with the potential to improve under the right management).

He's a better central player than winger. It was Wenger who took him out of the middle and tried to turn him into a winger.

I think this would be a great signing if it happens.

Red G

He's English! So take what you think is a reasonable figure and double it (see Downing and Carrol as examples)

Won't happen

I fail to see any benefit in keeping Charlie Adam at the club. Can anybody give me some shred of hope that the rumours of his immenent exit are true? If we need to decongest our midfield, he has to be candidate no.1 to make way.
I have heard many times today that he will be gone by Friday, but its just hearsay!

13 Aug 2012 15:40:45
Hey Ed's i read this site about 4x a day and i must say i'm just getting fed up with all the moaning about Agger, i love him, his passion and playing ability.

That said surely people have to understand we might not be able to replace him with a equal player.. however the money that is being quoted would probably turn any clubs head for a player of his age (I don't think age should effect anything but from a business point of view it will) and injury record.

I'm not a big FSG fan before anyone asks. I would much rather a Liverpool fan who loves the club. How many people are there out there who could finance it though? Probably not many.. if any.

I'm going to end this rant with i'm really happy with the players were being linked with and it defiantly seems a step in the right direction i agree this could be a really good transfer window and i'm optimistic but pessimistic about the times ahead..

Cheers Etch

so three weeks or so left in the window.

iexpect carroll to be gone in the final few daysof the window, most likely to newcastle but wouldnt be surprised if spurs pop in at the end.

we need players for the front positions still and a replacement for agger should he be sold

we have currently suarez borini downing carroll(expect himsold) sterling(too young for a regular starting spot)
possibly gerrard for three starting places upfront. so i m expecting at least 2 attacking options to be brought in. thankfully there are no english youngsters good enough so we wont be paying silly prices for them. potentially dempsey as one and thenmaybe a yougnish foreigner

please not adam johnson, headless chicken, great at beating his man but then fails to get his head up and deliver a telling ball, i dont think he works hard enough for rodgers system either.i d expect a forward who really works hard for the team to come in, hence not gaston ramirez

and looking at both borini and joe allen both similar statures both young quick intelligent good technique i dexpect another forward withthese attributes coming in,i dont see it being walcott either. i am hoping brendan has some aces up his sleeve and he lldo a newcastle style deal for a great young foreigner

I think your right about Johnsons work ethic.

Ozone

Yeah i m sure i m right about johnsons work ethic, also gaston ramirez s work ethic. brendan is always banging on how a great work ethic is the basic requirement so i can see us signing anyone whose work ethic isnt spot on

People who's saying Liverpool won't get in the top 4 because it's un realistic. It's very much realistic Liverpool have a very strong team. Not only that but if the supporters don't believe we can get Into the top 4 spot then how can the team believe that?

Yes exactly. An average team in 2005 went on to win CL. and trust me, it was average A THAT TIME. we friggin had traore. and now, defence is the strongest (if agger stays), midfield is brilliant. GERRARD LUCAS TOP TOP PLAYERS. WITH ALLEN, MAYBE SAHIN, HENDERSON, SHELVEY in the 3rd midfield role, i think this might be the strongest midfield in the prem league this season. suarez on attack with borini looking dangerous and that 3rd place for carroll and downing or maybe someone new. THE TEAM IS EXCELLENT. NOT AVERAGE. THE THING IS THAT we can finish inthe top 4 but dont expect a title race because its the philosophy and the way of play that is going to take a bit of time to implement. other than that, top 4 is a very likely situation im sure.

An average team can win a cup competition but it wont sustain it over a league campaign. however i admire your optimism and we do have a solid backline a decent midfield we need a couple of signing s yet to challenge top four i think

tom1975

I totally agree, why can't we believe top 4 is a possibility. We have a soild defence and if Agger goes we will bring in a like for like replacement. Our Midfield is strong, Lucas back, Joe Allen signed, Downing hopefully on the up and hopefully another winger on the way with skill and a good work ethic. Borini/Suarez up front with Gerrard in the hole and another forward no doubt on the way. And the reason I think we will do well is because BR's philosaphy is SO simple..retain the ball, quickly close down the opposition to win it back. In a matter of weeks this philosophy is already bedding in and players seem happy as they are allowed to express themselves more. We will be a major threat this season mark my words YNWA

The team is already very good. We unravelled after we lost to Arsenal at home last season. It's as simple as that. We're a heck of a lot better than what most are thinking, but I'm glad, as expectations are lower.

I don't think people don't believe we have a strong team ...but when you look at how the teams above us have improved (besides Newcastle and Spurs), I would say it would be tough to break up Man U, Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

There is no connection.
As far as I'm aware the pet labradoodle's correct name is:
Adamstown Royal Stanley at Wirral
and was, as a pet name, called Stan until at the age of 9 months he passed his City & Guilds 2330 therefore becoming a qualified electrician hence the new name "sparky"

IMO 2 signings to complete the squad
Sahin (loan)
Ramirez (£16m)

Sahin to replace Charlie Adam probably get £6m for him
Ramirez to replace Kuyt, Maxi and Bellers and add some creativity. Top 4 squad if we capture these two!

If Carroll leaves he will need replacing with a striker...not sure who..

If Agger leaves then Amorbieta is a good shout although he is a while away from full fitness he would be the best investment! Kelly or Carra can fill in until then I'm sure

Just a quick post sat-nav X Alonso wants to return to Liverpool he had a massive falling out with Iker and and dislikes Ronaldo he says he plays for himself and not the team and as many fans know he still as a house in Liverpool and is family love the city also he neve wanted to leave in the first place it was down to Raffa and him wanting G Barry. The one stumbling block could be wages he on around 140k and at 32 next birthday could be a problem 4 the club not saying it is true just what i have heard from a good person on the inside. Also forget anymore big signing till Liverpool clear the decks Cole90k Adams55k Carroll80k the only one who could go out of them 3 is Adams who Villa are looking at and BR will keep Spearing sorry but what i hear he likes is attitude and is willingness to learn. Also we willnt be signing another forward BR really likes Adam Morgan and also plans to give Suso a chance this year along with Sterling

If alonso loves the club so much he will be willing to take a pay cut.

He said there is a possiblity not a dead cert which means the club were lokoig at options, he never said it will happen

Barca have bidded for song for 11.7 m so i would think arsenal are gonna reject that. They have said publickly that they want tello as part of the deal. Does this action pave walcotts way out of the club. Maybe to us i hope so because the injection of pace is much needed and he will bring that

13 Aug 2012 14:30:35
hey lfc fans........

i just wanna say one thing.......im not getting carried away......i just believe liverpool have a great chance this year of progressing into the champions league places..

the worst case scenario....is agger being sold...without another quality centre back..coming in..........
why lose the skrtel and agger partnership..it makes no sense at all

No way will we finish 4th with players like Downing, Henderson, Adam, Shelvey and Carroll in our squad. Get real.

Shelvey is gonna be mint, Andy could be
tommy. {Ed052's Note -

No we'll finish 3rd {Ed052's Note - Im going for 4th or 5th - but I would be happy just to finish above just one of Spurs, Arsenal or Chelsea}

Omg city won the league with Wayne bridge in their squad

Question to the Eds, why sometimes when you reply it just says eds note-.... and thats it? is it my computer, phone, whatever. Cheers ears.

Ed's I've read all the posts and it looks like we are after 2 loans, Sahin and one other possible striker/forward as it is I don't see Sahin choosing us over Arsenal do we have a backup loan star for that position lined up in this window.

Thanks
QuantRed {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Backup loan star? Really?

How certain are you that Liverpool will buy another player for the first team not the youth eg last year ibe !
Thanks reddy {Ed002's Note - Certain.}

13 Aug 2012 14:18:18
Do you think we will get Alonso next season when his contract runs out? i remember him saying he would finish his career in Liverpool, so him rejecting a contract extension could make it happen. The only club he would join would be us, surely.

Reports are there that Juventus are monitoring the situation of him at Madrid

Chris {Ed002's Note - I would very, very much doubt Juve has any interest in Alonso. A rebuffed approach was made by AC Milan.}

I honestly think he may have another 4 or 5 seasons in him as his stregnths are his mentality, vision and knowledge of the game.

Having a midfield of; Steven Gerrard, Lucas Leiva, Joe Allen, Nuri Sahin, Jordan Henderson & Jonjo Shelvey to choose from is absolute class!

Having an attack of; Luis Suarez, Fabio Borini, Clint Dempsey, Adam Johnson, Stewart Downing & Raheem Sterling to choose from isn't too bad either!

The defence is a little of concern; regarding Agger - simply because there isn't a player as good that is available to us. I do though have faith in BR and I know that if Agger were to leave he will have an able replacement ready to persue..

Really looking forward to this coming season!

Stone YNWA

Sahin, Dempsey and Johnson ( luckily ) are not LFC players are they?

Of course they're not. But it only takes common sense to understand that they could quite possibly become LFC players this summer.

My point being, that, if they were our options for midfield & attackers - then we're looking good for the coming season.

Stone YNWA.

13 Aug 2012 14:14:01
eds, surely joe cole must be moved on if our interest in sahin and walcott is legit, doesnt make sense to have one of the highest earners at the club sitting on the bench week in week out ? {Ed002's Note - Unless an acceptable offer is made or some other deal is brokered then he stays. There has, as I have explained, been a little interest in him. We will see.}

13 Aug 2012 14:13:15
just a little mention for Carroll and Henderson, these are two young players who have been bought for massive amounts of money, not their fault at all, and because they have not set the world alight in their first season the criticism they have received is harsh, i really believe the both of them will become top players, Carroll is 23, when llorente was 23 he couldnt hit a barn door, now he is 27 with a quality manager to guide him people rave about him as one of the best centre forwards in the world, if we sell Carroll i fear he will go on to be devastating in another shirt, Henderson is in the same mould, energy to burn, always puts a shift in, was played out of position a lot and still learning the game but i really think he will be a top centre midfielder in a few years time, he will never be another Gerrard because Steven Gerrards are players who rarely come about but remember Henderson at 22 was playing in centre mid for England two months ago, imagine how good he will be in a couple of years time, learning from the likes of Lucas and Gerrard and ultimately Rodgers.

Cobra

Carroll just aint got it

Llorente didn't have it either - so what's your point? Llorente obviously has it now, any reason to think Carroll won't improve to meet your high standards.

Hi Eds, it seems likely that Carroll could be on his way, is Newcastle the most likely destination? Presuming they will come in with another offer, or are there any other clubs in the running? Thanks,

RJW {Ed002's Note - Probably.}

What makes you say it seems likely - BR hasn't said he is for sale, and he has said he likes him, and Carroll apparently has said he doesn't want to leave.

LFC Transfer Speculations
Rory Smith of The Times On #Walcott : "Valid question. #LFC could in theory match wages. Reason is that he's maybe been told that Santi Cazorla is his replacement
Whether it will happen (#Walcott to #LFC), I dont know. Chelsea also watching situation so not necessarily to #LFC.

I think we should ban all twitter rumours. According to twitter we have signed Ramirez 24 times. He has had 24 medicals and we have spent over 100 million in transfer fees on him alone in two weeks. Also i would take anything you read of the metro with a pinch of salt they quoted caughtoffside thats when i stopped reading.

I'm hearing a lot of people that believe that many different players may still come in and many other plays on the way out. Weather this is a good thing at all one go, i'm not so sure myself. one or two more players in yes, but anymore may just upset the balance of the team. If however the likes of Adam and Agger are on the way out, we may need to cover that. not sure what you think eds, but i think we should leave something for January.

13 Aug 2012 13:50:07
Rory Smith on saying we want either £27m or £24m plus Johnson from City but they are only willing to pay either £20m or £17m plus Johnson.

I think if a deal somwehere in the middle can be struck with Johnson coming would be a good deal.

Thanks,

Davey {Ed052's Note - maybe 20m + Johnson would work for both sides.}

17million plus AJ is still a very good deal.

I want us to get at least 22m + johnson if agger does leave. But id prefer it if he stays.

I think £17m +adam would be acceptable if danny wants to go there .
i think he is class would not like to see him go but may be good business.
cheers mal ..

I would rather the money without AJ ,can buy a hard working player without the attitude ! cheers ant

So - Johnson - can someone tell me if he's actually any good?

13 Aug 2012 13:42:51
outs

kuyt - 1 million
bellamy - free
rodriguez -free
carroll about 15/17 million
agger - 23 million
adam - part of dempsey deal

Ins

Borini- 10 million
Allen - 15 million
sahin - loan
A johnson loan
dempsey - part of adam deal plus about 3 mil?

If this was to happen I fail to see how this would be a good transfer window. We have let a lot of experienced players who can score goals go, and got no one to replace them. Borini has looked decent but we are still very light in this area. We have reduced the wage bill drastically but have got little to know money to spend to show for it. I personally see the owners pocketing the cash for the carroll and agger deals which means we have spent nothing. In Fact we have only spent about 30 million with around 40 million income. Only a couple of are possible 'signings' are loans deals so they will more than likely be off after the year. For me there has to be more of an effort to spend and get good players! I'm probably going to get lots of get slagged off for this but it is the truth. cheers

Danny {Ed052's Note - What, if that happened, it would be a dream transfer window. Out with the old, high wage players, who didn't perform last year, and then replacing them with young, high quality hungry players. That would be a fantastic tranfer window.}

You think? i'm happy with the midfield as I think we have a lot of talent in that area. I'm just concerned that the agger money or the carroll money will not be re- invested in the squad. We need to spend on another striker and a winger for me. Don't mean to be negative but i'm just worried that money willl not be spent to improve the squad. cheers

Danny

I agree with ed on that one! Dempsey probably scored more last season than all those players who have left put together! Find something else to moan about! That would be a great transfer window for us!

I think that would be pretty decent business considering as u said with a net spend of -10m, but again if agger & carroll are sold we would get replacements for them..the owners wont pocket the cash haha..
so the players u mentioned + another CB + another attacker and thats a dream transfer window..

I dont understand why you think the owners will sell and then not reinvest, firstly look at how they run Boston they try and but the best players but at the right price, and second they spent around 100 mil last season

ElRobbeNino

Are you off your rocker? i would be over the moon with that if it happened, maybe prefer tello or walcott to johnson but still.
you say we're getting rid of experienced players who score goals, so we cut the wage bill of maxi, kuyt and bellamy all of them over 30 and replace with the wages for 1 player, dempsey who scored more goals than all 3 of them put together last season,
they're going to take around a 20 million loss on carroll and sell agger for around 20 mill so wheres the profit going into the owners pockets?? don't want agger to go (or carroll but not as bothered if he did) but if he does im pretty sure he's not irreplaceable, we're not the only team in the world who ends up selling their top players, arsenal couldn't hold onto fabregas (RVP on his way probably as well) even man u couldn't hold onto ronaldo. Going by the signings already made and the targets that rodgers has been interested in then im confident this will be the best transfer window we've had in a couple of years

13 Aug 2012 13:37:36
Eds, first of all great site you're doing a fantastic job. I trust Macca but i hope agger is staying. About sahin is he really a main target? Considering the signing of joe allen it seems less imoportant with another cm? And also which clubs are interested in Carroll?
Cheers {Ed052's Note - We need another CM quite desperately actually, as well as another 3 attacking players if possible. Newcastle for Carroll. He wont go anywhere else.}

We really need Sahin! We have:
Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Adam, Shelvey, Spearing

Out of which we expect Adam to leave, and Shelvey needs a year out on loan.
Henderson, though a talent, has a lot to learn. Spearing has a good mentality but lacks quality.

As Ed052 says, we DESPERATELY need another midfielder

AZ {Ed052's Note - Thanks mate, as Gerrard, Allen, Lucas and Hendo, bit of Shelvey, cannot cope with 38 Prem games, 8 or so FA cup game, about 6 League cup games and circa 16 Europa games.}

Yes alright, what you r saying does seem valid. Especially if shelvey goes on loan. I was just wondering if he were our main target, if something like that exist. Thanks Ed {Ed052's Note - Im not sure Shelvey will go on loan, but still, we dont want 4 CM who have to play 60+ games.}

Totally agree on that, our starting 3 of lucas allen and gerrard is great but they cant/won't play every game so we need another quality CM in the mix when one of them needs rested or is injured, henderson and shelvey are decent back ups with potential to become great but i would prefer another top player in there while they are still developing, sahin would be the signing of the summer for me if it happened

13 Aug 2012 13:35:21
It seems Xavi alonso is set for a new challenge and does not want to renew his contract by a further 2 years. What this means if it plays out right, is that we would be getting sahin on loan this season. Alonso will stay at Madrid for next season but next summer will look for a move possibly to Liverpool. That makes space for sahin to come in for Madrid and Liverpool get alonso back. Wishful thinking but it might happen.

13 Aug 2012 13:35:12
Afternoon eds, reds.

I hear that we have genuine info in a quality CB.

Hes a bit injury plagued, and only really has had 1 decent season under him so far, but when he is fit he is very good.

He is 27 and he has had 17 injuries in 4 years though, so it could be a problem!

1)10/1/2009 Calf muscle strain; (2) 7/2/2009 Back injury; (3) 27/7/2009 Back injury; (4) 1/11/2009 Back injury; (5) 21/11/2009 Concussion; (6) 16/1/2010 Groin strain; (7) 1/3/2010 Knee injury; (8) 18/8/2010 Concussion; (9) 30/9/2010 Groin strain; (10) 12/10/2010 Back injury; (11) 20/10/2010 Calf muscle strain; (12) 25/2/2011 Thigh muscle strain; (13) 4/4/2011 Knee injury; (14) 20/9/2011 Rib injury; (15) 11/1/2012 Knock; (16) 18/2/2012 Knock; (17) 26/2/2012 Fractured rib.

Anyways, he is club is aiming to get upward of 27m for him. What does everyone (including ed002) think?!

Benny baller

I think you need to get a job.

Nice way to put up the reality behind the Agger deal without emotions. It makes sense to sell him with this real picture.

However, what price would you put on the loyalty he has for Liverpool? Priceless. Thats where it fails.

Kudos though to the creative post.

mgz

Sorry bout the typo at the end, meant to say "the club is aiming"

And good point mgz, but the club, will always be more important than 1 player, and the club will be around a long time after he retires.

My point is, if we wanted to buy a player in the same circumstances, there would be massive uproar.

I do hope he stays, but at the same time if he goes, it will only work if we find a better replacement. Weve replaced many of our kop heroes, keegan into dalglish, torres into suarez. The club will live on....

Benny baller

Woah there, you all slate Spearing for being poo but he is as loyal as they come! One rule for one and one for another.
Tommy.

Good posts Benny.

i watch every game in the pub and spend no money on merchandise so don't spend vasts sums to show my support, if more people did that then the club would stop treating fans like children

What is your point?

Its like not voting then complaining about the government. {Ed002's Note - Not as such. If you want a Govt out you need to vote for the other side.}

Why did you share this with us. nobody asked you to share this. why do you think the owners are bad ? how do they treat us like children ?

13 Aug 2012 13:34:04
I hope we learn from previous mistakes of selling a top class player who we would discover was so central to the team that the team has still not recovered. I refer to the sale of Alonso to Madrid and the worrying similarity of the potential sale of Agger. Why the need to balance the books in this way. Our UK economy is being choked by an austerity plan that is preventing growth. If lfc owners are adopting the same approach then we really are in for a long hard struggle.
Speculate to accumulate chaps. John Henry posted his thoughts about succesful economic growth on twitter some months back. He mentioned that a system needs to be fed until it becomes self-sufficient. Until we are back in champs league, heavy investment is required

Surely £25m for an injury prone defender represents a good bit of business for the club and that money will be used for further improvements! Agger is a brilliant player but we cope without him for over half of every season so I think we can let him leave if the price is right

13 Aug 2012 13:20:35
Admittedly fantasy football but could we sell Agger,Carroll and Spearing to AC Milan. Agger is baresiesque, Carroll is vieriesque and Spearing is gattusoesque. Perhaps wishful thinking. Apologies for the esques. Redevon

I think the point was stretched grotesquely

I see the geordies are in the process of buying Vernon Anita from Ajax - a cracking player for 6.5m. Where are our overseas scouts?

OVERSEAS
DM2012

"Where are our overseas scouts" I'm going to have a guess and say that there overseas, could be wrong though.

And where would this 'cracking player' play in our team? He is primarily a defensive midfielder who plays left back. We have 7 central midfielders now in our team and are linked with Sahin, while we have Enrique at LB with young Jack Robinson coming through. Try to put some thought into before you judge mate.

AG

Looking for better players.

Another one who want to orally pleasure
The Newcastle scouting system!!

Maybe when your owners a tight wad
You gamble a bit more to buy players

So we should be buying every single player thats ever bought by every club?!

Anita is way better than Henderson, Shelvey and Downing.

13 Aug 2012 12:43:52
Afternoon Ed002. Just a thought with regard to Pepecam. They say that there is usually is a similarity between a dog and its owner. With that in mind do you think this may give us an insight as to what Pepe looked like before he shaved his hair off. I think you said Sparky was a Pitcairn Terrier?
Cornish Red {Ed002's Note - Sparky is a rare talking labradoodle from the Pitcairn Islands. Pepe had hair like Jimi Hendrix when he was younger.}

I thought Sparky was Mark Hughes? {Ed002's Note - Each to their own I guess.}

Is Sparky a left-pawed Labradoodle, and does he play a right-handed Stratocaster? {Ed002's Note - Many labradoodles still play banjo right pawed even if they left pawed. The rationale for this is that the right paw is plucking or strummin and the left paw can get on with complex fingerwork. This is really a question for Sparky's brother who still plays finger style banjo with a couple of blue grass bands. Sparky is expecting him to visit next week.}

13 Aug 2012 12:40:42
Eds - It's being reported that Sahin is due to sign for Arsenal with a loan deal agreed and Adam Johnson is due to sign for Everton on loan (Rodwell sale apparently being the decisive factor)? Any truth in these rumours?? {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers regarding Sahin. As for Johnson I would expect MC would prefer to sell but a loan to Everton is a viable option.}

Means we will be standing tall and looking the sky..and watching the dempsy air to hit us.........great..

Hello fellow peeepppz. I have been talking to D.Aggers brother nikolaj, hes saying he doesn't know whetever hes staying or moving along. It could drag on, because he also want LFC the best, and if the club is receiving +25m£ he wil be the most expensive danish player in history. He loves his country, and wanna make history.

nothing has been decided yet.

EmilDenmark

He loves the club but he wants to be the most expensive danish player? wtf

13 Aug 2012 12:38:57
This whole Agger situation is making me uncomfortable, its seems like the Torres to Chelski fiasco playing out again:

A wealthy club bidding low then been told a price and only at the last minute offering enough for LFC to let him go, LFC then have to find a replacement in almost a last minute panic buy situation probably trying to buy a player who's club know how desperate we are and know we have the money to buy therefore inflating the price!

Anyone else concerned this may happen?

YNWA jns

We have repacements.

What if Agger got injured first came, same scenario, no replacement, at elats we could have £23 million to get one though

13 Aug 2012 12:36:25
I really think FSG are selling Agger to recoup some of the money lost from the Carroll deal. I've been a huge fan of Agger for years and hate to lose him but he is turning 28 in next few month and £20mill plus and/or a player is good business but i'd rather see him play at Barca. He'll do so well there. I hope we get a good replacement for Dagger and a good replacement for Carroll, not really seeing Dempsey as a permanent replacement for him but could be a good buy for the season coming up.
Can't see Tello coming to LFC due to his comments that it would be a "step down" to go to LFC. Ramirez rumour looks died out, except twitter building it up. Don't listen ti twitter.
Looks like Sahin and Dempsey are the next transfers.
Can anyone explain why all the hype over Walcott? IMO so over-rated.

FowlerGod.

Recoup what money lost from the Carroll deal. The Carroll deal was sponsord by the Torres sale. There was no outlay by FSG

But he's still an asset on the books at £35M minus depreciation. i.e. his book value is now about £25M. If he's sold for £18M, that's a £7M 'loss' - or £18M 'loss' if you believe what the papers will say. Or at least that's what my person financial brain says - happy to be corrected! {Ed002's Note - That is not how it works I am afraid.}

Google RVP's opinion of Walcott. Theo got 13 goals and 11 assists last season, in the first season he's played over 20 league games. He's 23, pacey, scores goals and would be a real coup

Red Ollie

Hi Ed002 - aah - I thought player values were as per contract but amortised over the length of the contract?
Be awesome if the Eds could get their heads together and do a wiki on how transfers / contracts and all that sort of thing work - then numpties like me don't have to ask about the process for signing players etc ... {Ed002's Note - The transfer fees, agent fees and VAT on agent fees are dealt with in the accounts during the year of the transfer - as that is when the money was spent. Players are also not tangible assets. There are a mass of additional costs which may be amortized immediately or over the length of the contract - it varies club by club how this is done but you cannot mix and match. These costs include wages, insurance and administration costs.}

13 Aug 2012 12:31:10
Hey Ed's, if the Sahin rumours are true and come to fruition, where do you think he would play? We already have Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson, Shelvey, Spearing, Suso and Coady fighting for the central positions. I fully expect Adam to leave, but which teams are interested?

Bo-Bo {Ed052's Note - As we have said Adam and Spearing will probably leave. That leaves Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Hendo, Shelvey and Sahin to rotate the 3 cm positions, Suso to play cups. Coady seems to have dropped down the pecking order.}

Does anyone else think coady may not make it a lfc? hope im wrong tho

13 Aug 2012 12:29:43
The agger situation is the alonso saga all over again. We sold alonso when he was 27 for £18mil and could not find a like for like world class replacement. Why do supporters think its logical to sell the best ball playing centre half in the pl for 25million if we wont be able to find a like for like replacemnt. I believe we should hold onto him and let his talents benefit us and not one of our rivals.

Thought please

Cheers

Sam

Sure we got about £30mill for Alonso?

FowlerGod.

Thought we sold him for 30 million wasnt it masc that we sold for 18 million cheers pk

Alonso went for 30m, and we never found a replacement,

The reason Alonso's departure hit us so hard was because Aquilani never got off the ground. If, as Rafa wanted, we had sold Alonso for 30m and signed Barry for 12m, we would have then had 18m left over to improve the squad

Red Ollie

We have found a replacement nuri sahin now though

Terrible point you are making, firtsly Alonson sold for £30 million. And why like for like replacements? You don't need to spend £25mil on a replacement. Agger cost us about £6 mil, there is no reason why we can't get qquality for same price again.

13 Aug 2012 12:28:55
Michael Dawson linked by today's Liverpool Echo. Any interest from LFC?

Are we really in the market for an injury prone centre back? Ah yes possibly we are if we sell our injury prone centre back, and Spurs have so many to choose from.

Thomas

still so many carroll lovers. i mean the guy is alright and probably has potential but how much more exciting is it to watch suarez-borini-(downing/dempsey/walcott/ramirez) linking up together with their movement and pace. seriously the big fella will only slow down the high tempo football we will be creating with the likes of allen and gerrard.

Im my opinion carroll is a different option like as with man citys dezko
dannybhoy

Aren't City trying to sell Dzeko?

As the season is nearly underway this is how i think the season will finish.
1.City 2.Man u 3.Chelsea 4.Arsenal 5. Spurs 6.Liverpool 7.Newcastle 8.Everton.
Carling cup- Liverpool, FA cup - Chelsea, champions league - Real Madrid ,europa league - Athletico Madrid.
Relegated - Wigan, Reading , Southampton. {Ed052's Note - I doubt either Reading or Southampton will go down, but then I always get these sort of things wrong.}

Why does everyone now rate Chelsea? They finished 6th last season (I think) and have had poor pre season and were shocking in charity shield

1- City, 2- Chelsea,3- Man Utd,4- LFC 5- Arsenal 6 - Spuds
FA Cup - LFC
LC - Newcastle

Relegated - Swansea, Norwich, Reading

I can't see the spuds finishing above us, their team is weakening and the crook was the only thing keeping them competitive

Caretaker manager does a brilliant job, fans want him permanently. Signs unproven young players for huge money who don't really fit the style that made the previous second half of the season go so well. Where have we heard this before?
Chelsea to finish sixth and spuds to finish seventh. Swansea, Norwich and Reading to go down

Dont like the thought off ofseting loses buy selling other players, the exact same is happening to agger as did meireles when these owners are in being forced out the club shocking sending out a terrible message...

We made a mistake buying carrol sell and get over it we get 18m spend well on another striker and then that guy could become 35m worth look at torres 26m sold for 50 suraez 23m provs would get 35m so sell 18m yea big loss but spend well enough we could again have a player that develops into 35m worth...

The chance of Carroll being worth his £35M outlay playing under Rodger's system is about the same as me waking up and finding my pillow is stuffed with gold dust. Namely, a big fat zero.

I live in a small village called Pontypandy and have connections within Swansea City football club. I am a fireman and I test the fire alarms at the Liberty Stadium. Word is that Liverpool have bid £18mil for Swansea pair Ashley Williams and Scott Siclair. Jenkins having none of it though, he is hoping Man City can drive the price up on Sinclair and is holding out for at least £15mil despite the fact he only has a year to run in his contract! That's all I know!

Hi, eds. Goal, states that tottenham and arsenal are in pole position to sign, sahin. Is it true? And has our interest in him cooled off?

Ratan {Ed002's Note - I simply do not have the time to validate everything you read on Twitter or the internet. Why don't you read other posts or try the search function before posting? This is not aimed particularly at you put everyone who, like you, cannot be bothered to make an effort. Macca has given a view on Sahin, I have explained my view on Sahin - just go read it.}

13 Aug 2012 12:17:30
Eds Please post this in the rumour section that we should start a online petition to stop the club sellling both carroll and agger these two lads could be massive for us and just because theirs a price on their heads doesn't mean they should be sold you'd never see the mancs do it so why should we agger and carroll both want to stay if anyone could set this up id be the first to sign :)

The Red Batman {Ed052's Note - A Dear Brendan letter perhaps, as Ed002 would say.}

Eh? I recall Man U selling their best player in Ronaldo! And other times they kept players that cost a lot without hardly playing them, Berbatov, Anderson.

It really is quiet pathetic how fickle people are on here. 6 months ago AC was the worst player of all time, now all of a sudden he's fricking Pele and people are crying into there beers even at just the thought of him leaving.

And really? A petition not to sell Andy Carroll?! Ladies and gentlemen, i have honestly heard it all now.

davethebutcher

The Red Batman, who knows what's best for the club the supporters or the experts?

I think I know who I'd trust in running Liverpool, if we sell them then so be it. They don't just sell players for the fun of it, they do it because:
1. The offer is higher than the player value

2. The player wishes to leave

3. They're are deemed to be surplus to requirement

So just because he's committed to Liverpool (Like Agger) the money is still decent. What if Torres didn't want to go? Would you complain that we got £50m for him?

Ronaldo wanted to go mate united cashed in agger and carroll do not want to go

An out of form Torres for a suberb Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll? Selling club or a logical business club?

Who cares if players don't want to go, its whats best for the club that matters

Makes me laugh how you lot slate the post because money is being waved around a few million and you've dropped ya pants and said please sir can i have some more you make me all sick what happened to supporting your club and team Agger and Carroll most stay otherwise we will turn into a selling club and never make a return to champions league football CALL YOURSELF'S FANS

Just some news I have heard the Dempsey deal is almost done should be announced this week. Gaston Ramirez will not be signing Walcott is the prefered option. with Sahin possibly on loan. The walcott deal is dependant on selling Agger and then a replacement CB will bought too with that money. Adam is off to either villa or fulham. No offers for spearing as yet but a little interest from Forrest. Cole looks like staying at least until January.

Martin Jol: If any club wants Clint they will have to meet the 12 million pounds or 15 million euros asking price. 6 or 7 clubs want him in England and Italy not just Liverpool.

13 Aug 2012 11:27:49
Latest news on Gaston Ramirez. We're trying to sign him, that hasn't changed, and I believe his agent will be on Merseyside tomorrow to deliver the outcome of several weeks of talks. His agent is advising him against Liverpool but everything should become clear very soon.
Thanks Sam

Why would his agent advice him against Liverpool. If he goes to city his career will stall. If he stays in Italy he will never improve in an inferior league and no Spanish clubs are willing to pay that amount for him. Wolfsburg the only other club I could think that want him and where a much bigger club.

13 Aug 2012 11:52:16
After buying Rodwell, Man City has given Everton first right at taking Adam Johnson on loan.

Thank you!

Erik_Oslo

Utter rubbish m8. They are serious about dagger & will use Johnson as bait, that deal is far more important to them this season than Rodwell is.

Jimbob

Who cares, the woods are welcome to johnson

Does anyone else think that spurs loosing modric would have the same effect that loosing alonso had for us. He pull the strings in that team and without him I think there nothing. For this reason I would live him to go to Spain! Olipool

All depends who they replace him with, remember we replaced Alonso with Aquilani who was out for 6 months and then had flu every time it started spitting.

13 Aug 2012 11:41:40
Hi - not a rumour but just dont get the possible Agger sale unless its to get a man City player we wouldnt otherwise get.
a replacement even close to as good is gonna cost 15m anyway plus all the fees & q's over whether they settle, want to stay, want away after couple seasons, fit into squad etc etc.
Youve got a top end CB, loves area, club, city, wants to stay, work, fits in, track record, commitment....and youre supposedly building - why sell? sell 5 also rans of which we have plenty for 4 /5 mil and recoup the same money & prob save more wages
dont see the logic - opinions?

Well on the flip side he is injury prone and with only 2 years left on his deal. he can get injured come january and miss the season. he will then be down to the last year of his contract and we can potentially get peanuts for him. i am all for keepin him, however if a 25 million pound offer comes for him then we can sell. i don't want adam johnson in part exchange as i would prefer if we got walcott.
derryred

Why wouldn't we get a good replacement, we got Agger and Skrtyl for great prices and remember Hyypia, which was only two years before Man U paid £30million for Ferdinand

We might get..and thank god its not KK who pays the money..or else we would have bought godin for 25 mill.....

13 Aug 2012 11:39:57
There has been plenty of talk on here recently about who we should sign as the wide attacker/inside forward that Rodgers likes to play. In the last few games Downing has been filling this role on the right and has played well so far. Borini or Sterling look like starting on the left.

But after Downing's previous season of no goals or assists there has been talk of us targeting Walcott or Adam Johson to fill this role. I was actually quite excited about the prospect of signing Walcott - we all know his final ball is inconsistent but his stats last year of 8-goals and 8-assists was impressive. That's 16-goals more than Downing provided which can make a massive difference over the course of a season.

However, I have just read an article comparing Downing, Walcott and Johnson and some of the findings were very surprising.

Downing Walcott Johnson
Minutes played 2477 2747 1466
Total CC 55 41 38
Clear-cut CC 11 11 6
Assist n/a 8 2
min/CC 45.04 67.00 29.92
mn/CCCC 225.18 249.73 189.5

min/pass 1.99 3.27 2.01
passing accuracy 85% 79% 88%
Min/cross 12.45 20.50 19.27
Crossing accuracy 23% 13% 25%

Touches 1783 1452 825
Unsuccessful touches 26 82 21
Dispossessed 23 65 18
Overrun 8 18 8

Some of the statistics regarding Walcott's ability on the ball are really surprising. Considering Arsenal play a possession based game, he only passed the ball every 3.27-minutes which is far worse than Downing's despite playing more minutes. This suggests to me he can go missing in games which is counter-intuitive to Rodgers preferred style.

His passing and crossing accuracy is also far inferior to Downing's and he was dispossessed or overrun the ball more times.

He may have set-up 8 goals last season but remember Arsenal had RVP up-front who was scoring goals for fun while none of our forwards seemed capable of hitting a cows ar5e with a banjo for a majority of the season.

Adam Johnson's stat's are much better than Walcott's although they don't seem any better than those of Downing's.

This has left me wondering whether Johnson or Walcott are really an improvement on what we have already got?

JRG

Would be very surprised to see Walcott in LFC colours - contract negotiations lead to agent-based transfer speculation for obvious reasons. Also the ££££ quoted for Walcott seem way out for a player with 12 months to run on his current deal. Guess if he doesn't sign what is offered from Arse then they will definitely sell - just hopefully not to us.

Excellent post and in my opinion he can only improve on last season, that goal he scored furthermore will have lifted a huge weight off his shoulders, plus he also doesn't seem to get injured much either which is a huge plus, his workrate has also improved too

Nice analysis.
Both Walcott and Jonson are overrated. However, right now we are rather short on the wing department, so one of the two might not be a bad call. I believe that Walcott might be used in the centre as well, though this is bound to be a 50/50 experiment.

Personally, I would prefer Tello over both - he is a dark horse in the least.

Drigan

Walcott goes and commits defenders so he will lose the ball a lot. Suarez loses the ball every other time he gets it but the time he dosent he can score or create a goal. Don't read into stats too much.

This is true. But there are a lot of things stats dont show.

For example, most teams are absolutely fearful of Walcott's pace. Just having him on the pitch creates space for others and his movement off the ball is really good and drags loads of defenders away

AZ

Excellent. hopefully the ones giving downing stick will read this and see. if we had van persie up front then downing would've had about 12 assists.
derryred

We had even better facts for charlie adam 2 seasons back..
best paaser, best second killer passes..
best dribbler..blah blah blah...and what it turned out be..
a good player..doesnt take much time to fit in...suarez...straight into the team and skills are excellent..ther are execptions like lucas...
no way downing worth 20 mill

So we'd be better off with Johnson then as he is the best of the 3.
Thought so!

Chris in Tamworth

I want them all. We never have wingers at this club. Look at united with young nani Valencia arguably kagawa plus they tried to sign moura.

13 Aug 2012 11:39:24
At first when i heard agger was leaving i was gutted. But when you think about it logically 20m+ and/or adam johnson is a very good deal. Dont get me wrong i love agger but its alot of money to turn down for an injury prone 27 year old. Adam johnson will be a good player for us if he comes.

Mason

Adam johnson will be heading to everton..after city signed jack rodwell from them..
i dont rate anyways

Adam Johnson = New Downing

Why does anyone want him??

13 Aug 2012 11:20:04
Note to FSG:
Carroll and Agger must stay.
Swansea supporters say that sometimes Rodgers doesn't have a plan 'B'.
Carroll could be that plan 'B'. Remember when he came on in the second half of the F A Cup?

Redstud

Cant remmeber..a 35 mill only striker need to be remembered almost all the games..
not the odd one which falls in the middle of 15 games.
sell him and buy another striker..young short..skill and pace..and actually can dribble..
20 mill will be enough to land one proven striker from any league

Remember when he came against bayer leverkusen?

Well can we not cash in our plan B and spend the 20 million on improving our plan A ? i do like carroll and i was all for keeping him but i believe dempsey is a step up on him. i rank borini ahead of him and i think suarez plays much better as the focal point for our attack than playing off him. carroll's sitters missed cost us lots of points last season, yes you can bring up that everyone was missing but it's the strikers job to score; i know suarez wasn't exactly clinical but look what he offers as opposed to carroll. i really don't see him fitting into the squad this season. i would happily keep him but i would also be happy if we took the 20 million for him and bought another player.

Hi Eds are we looking at any defensive midfielders? We struggled when we lost Lucas last season and it seems like the problem with no back up still hasn't been addressed. Thanks. {Ed002's Note - I think the targets are pretty well defined right now.}

I think the idea is that Joe Allen can cover there if required , after all , tackling is outlawed now , Allen wins masses of possession with interceptions .

Allen also tackles quite a lot too. 102 last season(think it was), 5th highest in the league.

13 Aug 2012 10:19:35
Liverpool are well in the running for Nuro Sahin but the midfielder would prefere champions league football. Expect him to sign for arsenal If they go for him. They will only
Make there move if song goes, otherwise it's a straight fight between liverpool and spurs with Liverpool the most likely of destinations.

Thanks.

hi eds all reds i like the look of the team and the football we are playing. however, im still a bit concerned about certain players who possibly will leave us . ed 002 says agger may still go, two major clubs interested, barca and r.madrid ed? skrtel? reina? even though suarez has signed a contract extension , does this make it safe? also a lot of players interesting us. callejon, sahin, tello, walcott,johnson,sinclair,all younger players. maybe im reading too much into things, just putting it out there and see what everyone else thinks. for me , i wouldve liked us to have signed one or two mature players, honda, deigo,(i know attitude), even torres comeing back, maybe vargas as a left wing back , would suit the style of football we want to play and dempsey. so what does eds and reds think? looking forward to the new season , its a very hard start for us , especially at home, but im sure we can cope with it . good luck to the team and all reds. godbless 96. steviep62. {Ed002's Note - The clubs interested in Agger are Manchester City and Barcelona. It is possible AC Milan may become interested as well - they are looking for another CB still.}

Did anyone see ESPN coverage of the Liverpool game yesterday. Jason macateer said he thinks we can win the title. I dont think it was coffee he was drinking.

No he didn't! He said as a Liverpool fan like the rest of us he wants us to win the league, but can't see it happening. He thinks we will qualify for a CL spot though!

In top 6 team any team can win EPL. one good run and the confident is sky high. there are so many team win EPL as underdog. i know everyone say city, chelski, and mad utd but i believe things can change.

Cannot understand why we are having friendly internationals a week after the PL starts, the Eutos finnished 5 weeks ago and a lot of those players were late reporting back to their clubs, and their is no major tournament next summer.

Exactly, same old though...

It is a long standing fixture set by FIFA and must be participated in.... it is the last one however. FIFA have seen the light and it won't happen again after this season

The friendly is this wednesday, before the premier league starts..an i agree, its pointless, and risky, which is why the players are dropping like flies already.

You may disagree but I think it's time for Coates to get more game time and make the CB birth his own. Thought he played well yesterday. I think he looks calm and composed and he times his tackles well. His positioning is improving too. And for a big guy, I think he's reasonably quick. Any thoughts?

Agree with everything you said, of course he will make mistakes, but that's how he'll learn. It was the same with Skrtel!

You're absolutely right but he's like david luiz

or he can be the best defender in the world where you are just astounted by his def. duties

or he fails miserably every game

He hasn't had enough games for you to fairly describing him as "failing miserably".

It would depend massively on who he plays alongside.... I could see it working well with agger... but playing him with Skrtle would be a disaster waiting to happen

I was worried when he looked dreadful in the Olympics but then I realised that all the Uruguay players looked bad , including Gaston Ramirez , so I stopped worrying and had a lie down .

I have to disagree although he is full of potential he is still a very raw talent and needs time to mature. He dives in and relays on last second tackles to get him out the s**t, He has all the attributes to be a legend and I have no doubt he will be a first team player but he isnt quite ready!

Good to see true fans supporting the future!

Dont worry I'm sure he will get alot more games even of we buy a replacement cb for agger, or even if agger was to stay.

Totally agree 100%

K.Bennett!

Morning eds and fellow reds...

Please can eds002 answer is question for me

Are the rumours true about a new stadium, and is it true that FSG may be thinking of selling the naming rights of anfield?

Thanks, jack {Ed002's Note - I don't know of any plans for a new stadium as it would financially not be a good deal for the club - as the owner has now alluded to as well. As for the naming rights, I speculated that the owners would sell them in order to fund or part fund the redevelopment of Anfield. I appreciate that this is a contraversial matter with the fans, but I think that it will probably happen. I am sure that consideration will be given to keeping Anfield as part of the name if possible.}

13 Aug 2012 09:30:34
i am not getting the liverpool board at the mo .........they want to sell our best centre back right .....but if you had ambition why would you weaken your own team and improve a rival ...its bonkers......keeping agger is a must to me.................why cant city buy adam or spearing for 27 mil ....haha...ynwa

20 million + for Agger at his age and history with injuries is a no brainer.... the more important question is what would they do with that money?

Ged {Ed002's Note - The Premier League do not restrict non-EU players at this time but have a "home grown" rule where a maximum of 17 players may be registered as not meeting the "home grown" criteria. UEFA would like to see all countries adopt a common policy regarding non-EU players but there are significant road blocks to that happening.}}

Thanks Ed! I'm now franctically trying to work out how many players that effects in our squad. It might also give some food for thought to all the posters on this site who want to sign every player with an exotic sounding name? I am I right in thinking Sahin is Turkish and Turkey is not in the EU. Cheers Ed. Ged {Ed002's Note - The EU does not come in to it Ged.}

Man City will not be signing Agger, two reasons, firstly as Macca said, he doesnt want to go, secondly City didn't want to match our valuation they thought that our great Dane would agitate for a move like Adebayor, Toure, Nasri etc however what they fail to understand is that money is not everything! They will now go for Rodwell from Everton who are desperate for the cash and will deal. Rodgers will now focus on selling Cole to either West Ham or QPR, Adam
to Fulham as part of the Dempsey deal as well as getting shot of Spearing and possibly Wilson, If a deal can be done for Carroll Rodgers won't stand in the way.

Everybody would agree who our fringe players are (spearing, Adam and cole) who need to go in order to reduce the wage bill and make space in the squad for better quality. Carroll is more a factor of gaining money from a player that looks unable to fit into the clubs new system. I genuinely believe Carroll is going but will this come back to bite us. Better safe than sorry

Apparently Fulham have accepted a bid from Liverpool for Dempsey this morning, it does not include Adam though and is less than the £10m quoted.

13 Aug 2012 09:20:36
do the eds or Macca know of any interest in Fernando Llorente he would be a great fit upfront with suarez and borini.

If we are trying to offload Carroll, why the hell would we replace him with exactly the same type of player? Llorente will go to a CL eligble team!

Morning all.
Metro's reporting we will make a bid for Tottenham's Michael Dawson should we sell Agger.
Also says Tottenham would not be too concerned at losing him because they have plenty of cover in that position and he will welcome a move away because he's been told his playing time will be restricted this season.
Rumour true Eds or just more sloppy journalism?

2 major signing will be completed by this week. Ramirez deal agreed as rumours and Walcott 11m deal agreed with Arsenal. Ramirez will under go medical by todat and Walcott will be released once RVP problem solved. YNWA

I think a majority of us will be happy if we get Walcott and Ramirez and Sahin on loan...Don't think we need AJ and also we don't need to sell Agger/Carroll..Maybe Dempsey if Carroll leaves and a suitable Agger replacement...Instead, selling Adam, Spearing and Cole will be better..

Red PG

If we got Ramirez, Walcott and sahin on loan. At the same time got rid of spearing, Adam, Carroll an possibly cole(if we can find a buyer) then I expect us to get top 4 with that team.

rodwell would have been a great signing for us,young and will only get better.
if agger leaves we will have a problem,he will be very hard to replace.
i watch spanish football and godin has not got the quality to replace him.
the transfer window should be closed 1 day before the league starts it will force clubs to do business.
we should be enjoying the games from day 1 and not be talking abt transfers when the league has started.
i think we will bring 2/3 players in last week, they need to settle and it could cost us points.

I don't think we will ever buy or sell players from Everton.

It is generally reported in the press that Everton have received around £12 million from Man City for Jack Rodwell. Now I am reading and hearing that Everton intend to use "part" of the fee to target Clint Dempsey as well as Matt Phillips of Blackpool.Since we have apparently been quoted £10 million for Dempsey is there any possibility of Fulham dealing with Moyes and Kenwright? Also it is said Everton would like Adam Johnson on loan.Is there again any chance of City loaning Johnson to Goodison? To me it all sounds like a fairy tale to keep the Blue fans from moaning about another player being sold.

The Plank {Ed002's Note - Obviopusly any club could express an interest in DEmpsey - he is for sale.}

Sparky has made it clear he will not be allowed to attend training and must spend the day doing chores at home. He still refuses to say who he was with last night and what he was doing.}

Ed002 is pepe aware of the pepecam that follows him around?

Great news about sahin an Walcott!
But what I don't understand is why the owners would sell Agger for 23mill? Specialty If he wants to stay!
That 23mill will be used to bring in another quality CB.
Selling him this close to the end of the window will be a disaster! Anyone we go in for to replace him will cost the same if not more than what we got for him!

Bad idea FSG

I doubt that, I woudl expect a great centreback for half that fee, if not a quarter of it

And where is the proof that he wants to stay? The finger tattoos? Get real! Those are nothing.

cant be sure one this one,but whilst watching the closing ceremony i'm sure i saw sparky in the back of a black cab.his hair was wet, looked to me like he'd been out in the rain again with no coat.anyway,i could not see from where i was weather he had the remote control with him, although if he had it's probably slipped beneath the seat.

Hi eds, you have probably had this question Already so apologies if so...but if an acceptable bid for Agger came in, but he really didn't want to leave, is there any way he could be forced to? It's pretty clear from his most recent tattoo that he doesnt want to... {Ed002's Note - He cannot be forced to sign a contract if he doesn't want to. The tattoo is irrelevant - perhaps a momento.}

Tatoo's have magical powers and Agger's tatoo will stop him from signing for Citeh

I think the tattoo is to a way of quashing rumours of him not signing a new contract and forcing a move, just chillin in Greece by the pool by the way, jaydee ynwa

was at the game yesterday against bayer one thing that was so apparent was how lacking we were upfront when stevie suarez lucas and even downing went off, we looked really average with attack after attack breaking down we need more quality in the final third hopefully these next two weeks will conjure up a few surprise signings coz we are gonna need them to challenge this season.adam, spearing henderson ,cole should be sold or loaned not up to the standard we need bring in johnson, de jong, walcott and maybe even shurrule of bayer think these players we would be realistic options which would make the squad a hell of alot stronger .we just cant rely on stevie n suarez every game

lol Bless..

Just popped on to the Bitters page after reading rumour on twitter about Owen Signing for them!
They are dead excited about it.. has anyone told them its Michael Owen they are signing! lol
Its pretty sad really.. he couldnt come back here so he is going to each of our rivals in turn and warming their benches for them!..lol
ItsNotRocketScience

I would bring him bk in a coaching roll

I think an egg roll would be better

I compare him to an out of date carton of milk. Was good but turned bad over time.

I compare him to a Cortina - good in its day but you wouldn't pay for one now

cozinoz

Come on ItsNotRocketScience, be reasonable m8.

Owen is one of the most gifted strikers I have ever seen.

Given a run in the team, he could score them a lot of goals.

Laugh all you want, but he has always scored goals.

If it were not for injuries he would be remembered as one of the greatest strikers ever to play the game. He would have trounced Bobby Charlton's England goals record.

He was European Footballer of the year. He won us trophies, at times almost single handedly (Arsenal FA Cup).

He scored 118 goals in 216 games for us. Show some respect.

So he went to Utd after moving to Real Madrid and Newcastle.

It was that or Stoke.

Why would he not go to Utd - many LFC fans had already made it clear he was disliked long before joining Utd.

Their 'loyalty' was not worth a jot.

Largely on the basis of taken out of context comments in the gutter press.

He must wonder why he bothered giving us so many great moments.

Alonso, Mc Manaman and Arbeloa were the same - whereas Mascherano refused to play for us to force a move to Barca - he's even worse than Tevez in my book - where's the widespread abuse of these players?

It's hard to ignore Real. They are Massive. 9 European Cups - they are the biggest, most decorated club in the world.

Even the likes of Figo and Ronaldo ended up there. When they go all-out to get a player - they get him.

Laughing at Everton a bit rich these days too. They finished above us last year - and with a fraction of our resources. They have my respect.

BJH YNWA

ps - It would give me great satisfaction to see Owen show what he was all about - just once more.

Not on derby day though, obviously. lol. A hat-trick against the Mancs would suit me.

Ideally, Owen would score 30 goals and they'd get relegated. lol.

pps - Someone had to get in his corner! Take it easy m8.

BJH

Spot on! Although I'll always remained miffed we only get £8M + Nunez for him- could have been 5 times that after his hat-trick in Germany! Once he did his hamstring at Elland Road(?) he was never going to be the same player for too long.

Mrpjd

I dont disagree in his day he was a terrific player.. just a shame his greed got the better of him and he left for pastures greener.. the year before we wont the champs league! ;)
Of course he is entitled to play for whomever is willing to pay his physio bills.. I can still giggle about it..lol

I really don't get this idea that we are making a loss on andy Carrol if we sell him for less than 35 million. He isn't worth 35 Million, he never was. We effectively got Andy Carrol plus 15 million for Fernando Torres. We also reduced the wage bill. The club have not lost out, Chelsea just paid too much in in so doing over inflated Carroll's price. We will never get close to recouping 35 million. makes no difference unless we are looking to bring in another star player.

Neil W

Indeed, from that point of view whatever money we get for Carol, it should be added to the 15 mln profit made from selling Torres. E.g. if we sell Carol for 20 mln, then this will mean we have sold Torres for 35 mln.

However, we are just fans, not businessmen, and we should really trust FSG that they know how to handle their money.

Drigan

Loss is always a loss...if he wasnt worth 35 mill...y on earth KK paid him??...torres was worth 100 mill 3 seasons ago..and he is worth easily 30 mill now..
he has class and its permanant like our history..
he is always dangerous in the pitch..

Should've just took the 50 mil for torres and not bothered with carroll now that would've been a deal!

I doubt United would think like that...They made losses on several players and sold Ronaldo for £80 million... But then, they didn't go out and pay £25-30 million for Ashley Young or Phil Jones like we overpaid for Downing and Carroll...

Dalglish messed up big style. If Rodgers had that money I'm sure he could of bought in 2 world class players and a few first teamers on top.
We already have Allen and borini, pick any 4 out the rest here..
Ramirez, pato, huntelaar, Walcott, johnson, Moses, sakho, hummels.

All reasonable targets, I mean the money we spent on Carroll and downing was just totally mind boggling. Henderson is young so we can live with that (it's not 35m)

These poor signing really set Liverpool back.

Finally someone said frank...KK messed up very badly...
he wasted over 100 mill..
Hendo downing caroll and adam would never have been bought...
never ever...

Any dip into the transfer market is a gamble.

IF LFC were better resourced it would make no difference the money Kenny spent.

Mancini bought dire players when he first went to city but at the end of the day it mattered little when he had the Sheiks cheque book to remedy the problem.

Kenny did his best and would have been successful had the players he bought not let him down.

I agree with the original poster. It was KK who messed up...We could have signed better players for the amounts we spent last season..

Red PG

Because Borini, Allen, and whoever BR signs are guaranteed to be utter successes, right? Any transfer is a risk and BR hasn't made better buys than KK until we have seen them play a few games. And let's not forget Suarez.

cozinoz

Alright can we move on now. i cannot believe you continue to give kk abuse. he stabilized us when we were in big trouble. he then tried his best and got us to 2 cup finals. we also had a lot to deal with in terms of the suarez saga, which effected our team badly, and the lucas injury. if hendo and downing now comeout and have good seasons then maybe it will shut people like you up.
now pato is great but is injury prone; at least downing is there to be selected.
huntelaar is prolific in the germain league where defenses tend to play a low line.
ramirez, johnson and moses are all overrated (don't just believe hype, you should actually watch them play).
hummels was never an option and sakho is injury prone and the ligue 1 is a big step up.

If Macca is right about Agger leaving, then seriously the owners have lost it. How are we meant to compete with our best players being sold off. We don't need Adam Johnson, if we are already targeting Walcott and Dempsey. We shouldn't need to be selling to buy anyway, the owners have hardly invested that much and after last years transfer gaffs they seriously need to spend some money to keep us in with a chance of top 4. Agger should simply reject any advances made by City, he's already shown his dedication to us with the YNWA tattoo. Hope he stays.
Also is the Sahin deal a loan or permanent transfer?

Cheers,
Hassan

Mate..get a grip...
the owners blindly invested 100 mill last year..it was KK who screwed it up and down...
if you are in a position would you spent another 100 mill??...
go and shout at KK not at the owners...

13 Aug 2012 01:38:41
Providing that the new Ramirez rumours are true (Liverpool have agreed a fee and agent is due in Merseyside tomorrow) do you think that he will play on the left of a front three with Borini and Suarez or sit in midfield? Surely our midfield is pretty solid already with Lucas, Gerrard and Allen.

Great site EDs

I think we should wait and see if the deal is done and then we can discuss his position in the team..

13 Aug 2012 02:28:35
Following on from Macca's post, surely Agger can simply refuse the move? It's not as if he's being frozen out by Rodgers but more that the sale is being driven by the owners...! All indications are that he wants to stay and his contract enables him to do so.

In theory... But in practice? Who knows.

Just put a bet a £50 bet on Liverpool to win the title at 33/1.

I think it's time people stop being so negative and naive it's so impressive how we've been playing in the last 2-3 games with Rodgers not being at the helm for very long at all.

If the transfers that Macca has suggested are to go through then I see no reason why we cannot mount a serious title challenge.

For years on end we have brushed many of the top 4 teams aside and then let it all slip by chucking points away against lower opposition win 6/10 against Utd , Arsenal , Chelsea , City , Spurs that's 18 points that will then leave us with 28 games against lesser opposition which realistically we should be aiming to win thats 84 points up for graps just from the lesser opposition.

I have never been this optimistic at the beginning of a season in a long while , the ball retention , speed of the passing and the effort the players have been putting in to press the ball and win it back as quick as possible has been absolutely fantastic and refreshing to watch.

It seems like Rodgers knows exactly what hes doing and what he wants, he's young manager with a huge desire to WIN it seems to be a match made in heaven.

so and lets back Brendan Rodgers to the hilt and bring the title back to anfield!

Tom.

Well thats 50 quid youll never see again.

You should have just given it to charity. We will not even get in the top 4.

if only to put a smile on Reds here...

quote from Mancini regarding Rodwell signing:

'It's the first time he will be in a club that plays to win and it will be different for him, but I'm sure that, in a couple of years, he will be a top, strong midfielder.'

City owned utd end of last season, this left us laugthing.

City own everton by declaring one of their players being in a winning team now.

All I can say is chin up so SAF and David moyes

13 Aug 2012 02:04:19
brilliant news that Sahin is very close to signing, but, I mean, will he honestly get that much game time? I'm assuming the reason he's being sent out on loan is because he wants to prove to Mourinho that he can be an integral part of the Madrid team.

If he does sign, it probably means the end of Adam, who will likely be off to Fulham as we up our bid for Dempsey. Then we have Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Sahin, Hendo, Spearing, Shelvey and Cole. For a 3 man midfield, 8 players seems like way too much. Gerrard can't play every game, so I can see Sahin or Henderson might step in there.

What I most have problems with is the Adam Johnson deal. I rate him highly, but I'd rather we sign Walcott and keep Agger rather than lose Agger and have both Adam Johnson and Walcott. I really hope Macca has it wrong in that sense as tattooing YNWA on your knuckles really does say something about him.

Might be getting way ahead of myself here, but I am really looking forward to next season, I think Rodgers is the man to take us back to the top.

Thoughts?

RenegadeRed

On top of Adam expect spearing and possibly cole to leave which will make efficient space in the squad. But then with suso does he finally come through and get some game time in the domestic competitions or does he go out on loan?

Gerrard Lucas Allen sahin shelvey Henderson suso. That's depth, quality, experience, youth and in the special case of suso a rise of a star.

if Macca is correct about the sahin, walcott and dempsey situations (which he usually is) ..surely this means there is no future at LFC for the likes of spearing, adam, henderson, cole ? what are your thoughts Eds

13 Aug 2012 01:42:59
I've just seen Macca's latest posts from a few hours ago!

Sahin close to joining, Dempsey deal still on with Adam maybe going the other way and interest still in Walcott?! That's near enough all my wishes come true!

Well, all apart from the fact that Agger seems to be on his way! Yes, we may get money plus A. Johnson but to be honest I would rather keep Agger then have the money and Johnson.

K.Bennett

13 Aug 2012 01:13:34
just a thought,if dagger does go what bout stevie g playing in his position?with lucas allen sahin in mf!

If Agger goes we shouldn't put one of our biggest attacking threats into defense. If he does go I think Kelly should slot in nicely, he's played the LB position before so is comfortable on his weaker side. So playing the left CB role shouldn't be an issue.
If Rodgers doesn't see that, then get in a replacement.

Red Raw

Steve a CD? No!

Just no why would we play one of the best midfielders in the game so far out of position like we have done in the past.

Unbelievable post, obviously has no idea at all, Gerrard as a cb, rest of league would piss themselves
McB

The greatest defenders in Italy and Germany were midfielders converted to center backs so not a bad idea poster made about Gerrard could be a master stroke

13 Aug 2012 01:17:09
I would be very annoyed if agger was to be sold, even for 25mil + johnson. Agger has show loyalty and is a top class ball playing cb which we would find extremy hard to replace. He is an integral component in our side, and at 27 he ha just reached his peak. So why would we sell him?

Thoughts please

Cheers

Sam

I agree with you there, a player actually shows loyalty for a change and everyone wants to cash in on him, some way to reward loyalty that. Next time a player decides to use us like a stepping stone like Torres did, then all the people willing to sell Agger now have no cause for complaint. Support player that show loyalty or dont moan when they dont show us any.

Nevada

I hope Agger says F OFF no deal.....and rambles on about trying to use him as a means to cover for wasting money on carroll.

if carroll can refuse to leave so should agger.

I agree mate. We all want what this club was renowned for, which was players he love this club and would give everything for this club and thats agger, yea he might get injured alot but he wants be here an succeed here. Seen the post tday someone wrote bout carra and leeds offerin player/coach role and the lads like take it. Where is the loyalty in the veterans now ppl who give their life an soul to this club. No matter what money is involved i wud be gutted see agger go, he is a lad with heart, determination and love for this club everything this great club was brought up on when shanks took us under his legendary wing. Am 26 i havent seen the best of liverpool but ive seen the fight if liverpool eg 2005. BR will bring success back to this great club of ours. Kopidol

I would only sell to barca if they offered tello otherwise we should hold out on city and ask a big fee because they're rivals.

Burmesekraken

I agree.. Tough to part with. But if it ends up being best for the club..

Because that price is insane for someone who spends half the season on the medical table. Love him but that is a silly price and anyone is expendable

Agger will not spend half this season on the medical table. Use had problems with (x) in the past with saw him lose fitness thus the nagging injuries last year, never a devestating career altering issue. This year hes up for it and the #2 defense from last year will be top this time en route to top 3 position. Mark these words- if agger is sold to city we will all spend the next year cursing at the tele as we watch him own the epl. If we keep him...well then just stay tuned and remember azkop told ya first!

13 Aug 2012 00:39:29
I for myself don't see the point of selling Agger , just to cover loss for Carroll's sale , as it will incur so much fan fury ( which are most important for a club). I support the owners to the core for any other decision but selling your top defender(fan favorite) just for money . And i know Alonso was one , but he had differences with the manager and submitted a transfer request and same goes for Torres . Steven Gerrard said he loves Liverpool but it is not upto him , why is that , just because our owners want some extra cash . And for people who are happy to accept 25 mill for Agger and giving excuses of him being injury prone and being good for only one year , are the people who accused lucas of being not fit for the shirt. Agger took 3-4 years to settle down and get used to the system and when he loves the club you throe him out just for some extra money , what sort of deal is that . Just read Macca's post and i feel sorry for Dagger . Please dont let him leave. YNWA (Knuckles)

Can I get anyone's opinion on Nuri Sahin? I've only watched him play once for RM and he looked decent and Macca says he's close to signing...
Also do you think this spells the end for Charlie Adam, are any teams interested Ed?

He was absolutely brilliant at Dortmund before moving to Madrid and his talent is being wasted on the bench at Madrid.
The talent he showed at Dortmund could not have just disappeared over a season so if we got him we would have a real star.

Eds, even though I am happy with the passing I have seen from our players and the hopes of tiki taki football coming I am a still bit concerned.
I think we can all agree that arsenal have been the passers of the premier league and are perhaps the most similar to Barcelona. But at what cost? Arsenal have basically become a Barcelona B team or a shopping centre and I wouldn't be surprised if they had a scout dedicated to arsenal. I realise that it may bot happen anytime soon and when players are on form there will be interest but I just think it is interesting to think about. Thanks and would love an opinion.

Mate we are nothing like Barca Rodgers is bringing back the Liverpool way , and once he's built the team he wants and its in full flow no-one will want to leave when we are winning things on a regular basis.

Don't panic yourself.

Arsenal were a very successful team in the first 7 seasons of arsene wengers rein, they always qualify for the champions league finishing in reasonably high positions without spending alot of money. They're not in debt and have now added quality additions to their squad. Next season will determine if your statement is correct, I for one disagree. If arsenal had spent half as much as barca they would be a powerful team.

Adam and Spearing a surplus to requirements as is Carroll we could get 27m for selling them add 3m from bellamy and kuyt = £30m

that can be used to get Walcott £15m, Quaresma £6.5m, Mirallas £6.5m and
Sahin on loan.

If Agger has to go, should sell to Barca. Why make City stronger? Not sure if Barca would cough up 25 plus million, but I recall an interest in Tello......

Coop

You're absolutely right; it would hurt less to see Agger go to the best club in the world, as opposed to strengthening opposition.

Agger would be leaving the best club in the world mate and he knows it.

The best club in the world is liverpool fc , ynwa red mick tag

'Best' club in the world? Barca? Based on what?

They have 4 European Cups in their history. They're not even the 'best' club in Spain.

A big club yes, and a fine team - but don't buy their 'more than a club' cr*p.

Show some respect for football history - will you forget all about Barca as the 'best club in the world' when the newest fad blows through in 2-3 years?

{Ed002's Note - Sparky is livid. Pepe is five hours late getting home, meal is ruined and Pepe is soaking wet and covered in grass cuttings and leaves. He refuses to say where he has been, who he has been with or what he has done with the new remote control. Grounded, and will miss training tomorrow.}

Bad Pepe! Hope Sparky disciplined him with a rolled up newspaper.

God I love pepecam

ed002 Would any of these be a possible replacement for Agger ? Hummels , Chiellini , Otamendi , Howedes , Sakho , Adil Rami , Subotic , Yanga Mbiwa, Willy Boly . Personally i'd like to see Hummels or Adil Rami {Ed002's Note - POtentially there might be interest but you need to look at extant interest first.}

I hope what Macca says on Nuri Sahin is true is it on loan with chance of a permanent deal at the end. I believe he is taylor made to replace Alonso as he is basically similar type of player.

I also think alot of people say they would be upset with selling of Agger, but 20+ million for a fantastic player who has rarely finished a full season at the age of 27 would be fantastic bit of business, which could only improve our kitty to improve in much needed areas. Plus I also feel that Seb Coates could easily fill the void with another centre back purchased to back up Skrtel and Coates.

Hopefully we don't sign Dempsey and buy Walcott and Johnson as Macca said.

Cheers

Marklfc85

Why would u want johnson over dempsey? Johnson' is a headless chicken.
Indian Buzzer

Other than Dempsey being "old", can you explain why you would not want him? I can't understand why people would say no to Dempsey and the only rationale I ever really see is he is too old or too expensive.

I'm hoping for Walcott and Dempsey. If we sign Amorebieta (10m) as a replacement for Agger, we could get Walcott and Dempsey and have a net spend of just 10m this summer. I think that would be great business, and I don't blame the owners for being more frugal this summer based on the returns they got from their money last season

Red Ollie

Why did you ruin a decent post with your final sentence, Mark? Dempsey will be awesome

cozinoz

Not overly excited by this news of Adam Johnson, would much prefer Christian Tello.

BrisbaneLFC

I would be happy with Dempsey & Walcott. Don't think we need Sahin, would prefer a more attacking CM like Ramirez to learn and take over from StevieG.

13 Aug 2012 00:31:33
are we only linked with sahin on loan to see if he is 100% fit??

13 Aug 2012 00:30:13
sahin close according to Macca, great.
midfield now looks great-
lucas, allen, gerrard, hendo, shelvey and now sahin-sorted

at the back, agger leaving is a disaster. top player and able to cover lb as well.

johnson, skrtel, .........., enrique.

covering are kelly coates and carra. some said on this site jack robinson is going to aston villa on loan, is this true? anyway i dont want to see carra play too much this season, so with agger going maybe we need two defenders, one top class cb. eds any chance of hummels? good teams are built around solid defences.

up front
downing suarez and borini, need three more so who,
according to Macca johnson could be included in agger deal. walcot rumours keep poping up. if newcastle dont take carroll back we could end up with

downing, suarez, borini, johnson, walcot and carroll.

would prefer carroll to leave with tello coming in. still all up in the air, but allen was a class singing, sahin close, we are on right track. please agger dont go.

sami hyypia is a legend.

B O H

I would play Kelly with Skrtel. Coates looks to slow and clumsy. Carra way past it. I prefer even Wisdom & Sama to them 2. Really hope Agger stays.

Question... If the football gods would offer us as Liverpool fans a guaranteed 4th position at the end of the season NOW....would we take it?

What would be the fun in that.

You havent stated a cost to the deal so yes I would take it. If you said that we could not get any higher as a result of the deal then I would still say yes because that champions league money would mean next year we wont have to sell a key player to offset losses in the transfer market.

Does the guaranteed 4th come with Champions League? If yes, than I would say absolutely.

I would most certainly take that, in a heartbeat!

K.Bennett

If the football gods cant offer first place, theyre not gods fk them off. sammy

Throw in the Europa cup and we have a deal. Cheap at half the price

cozinoz

Guarenteed 4th means accepting failure!
We play to win, even if we dont, we should always play to win.
We should play to our best ability and see where we end up.. if its not first then we play better next year and so on untill we are first!
ItsNotRocketScience

We want 1st place.

Drigan

What if the team finishing 5th or 6th wins the Champions league? So I'd say no, we should push for the title...

Red PG

No club has a divine right to a top 4 spot.... besides this season is going to be so much fun when we surprise the rest of the league... We won't win it... we might not even finish top 4 but teams will fear us again.

13 Aug 2012 00:11:34
the problem i have with selling Agger is it makes City stronger and Liverpool weaker, therefore we are further away from getting above city in the league before we have even started, to me it doesnt make sense it is such a strange move from Rodgers.

cobra

I think the idea is it would make the team stronger (potentially).

I basically mean that we need some cash in to cover other purchases that BR may want to make and it's possibly felt that the money for a potential Agger sale could be used better elsewhere. Don't know if I agree, all really depends on who the replacement is and how they perform.

I'd say it's all a bit of gamble, honestly.

So the 600 million city have already spent hasn't done that?Agger going to city gives us funds, and hopefully a player to add a bit more pace and width to the side.

The problem i have with selling agger is not if it makes city stronger, but if it makes liverpool weaker. we will see.

Maybe the new defender would be better at defending?

Read the art of war, it may give you an idea about not giving up one of your best to your rivals

13 Aug 2012 00:10:44
If Agger leaves and we have to re-shuffle our defense, it may cost us around 5 goals this season. Skirtel and his new company will need time to understand each other.

Lets just hope that it doesn't cost us crucial points by converting possible wins into draws.

If Agger wants to stay, then we should dig in our heels, let him stay and tell Man City to get a CB from somewhere else.

Macca is Sahin a loan or permanent deal?
Any ideas on a replacement for Agger? Would be a massive void.

Rachel

13 Aug 2012 00:07:14
I was hoping that we were going to keep Agger. Happy to hear about Sahin tho. Obs we are going to be looking for another CB. Who does Everyone think would best replace . Gav

Martin Kelly. Better CB than RB. Give him a chance.

The Problem with Transfers...

My first lengthy post in a while (due in part to working) is going to be regarding transfers.

Transfers are tricky business and never please everyone, someone always gets hurt. Recently we have seen our club stung in transfer dealings in, are we about to be stung by one going out? yes I am talking about the possible transfer of Daniel Agger.

Transfers in are actually easier than out, there are less variables in my opinion you only have to worry about one thing, the cost. When transfering out there are two more which are far more important than the cost of the transfer. Those two variables are; are we a weaker side as a result of this transfer? and Are we strengthening our rival with this transfer?

The answer to both of these is (arguably) yes. We will be weaker and we will most certainly be strengthening a league rival. Agger may have his injury issues but was largely present last year and doctors reports claim his previous consistent injury has now cleared. We could therefore be potentially selling one of europes best ball playing defenders at the peak of his career to a league rival. I would be fine with this as the million dollar man was right, everybody does have a price and its usually a lot less than people think it will be. However there is something very telling about this transfer, City and their millions and millions of pounds could buy absolutely anybody in the world of football and are choosing to buy Daniel Agger, why? There is nobody better available.

This means should we sell Agger we will have to buy someone who is either a/ lower in ability or b/ untested in this league. This makes it a fairly risky transfer since your CB pairing is one of (if not the) most key areas of the field and entering a new season without as settled pair is asking to concede goals (especially if Reina performs like he has the past 2 years).

I'm aware that everyone is available at the right price, I agree with it, but only when Liverpool benefit the most from the transfer, and I dont think we will. Johnson is not good enough in my opinion to be a liverpool player and I dont see him being an improvement on Downing (evidenced by the fact when they were at Boro every manager chose Downing over Johnson) and we are likely to only get him on loan anyway so how does that benefit us in the long term?

All transfers should answer yes to these questions before we make them...

1. Has our evaluation been met for this sale?
2. Do we benefit the most from this sale?

If the answer is no...a sale should not be made.

Thanks for reading all, comments are welcome and appreciated.

Very sound logic and agree 100%

Keep your logic mate ;) he's my favourite player so we should keep him. End of.

Jack Rodwell has signed for City, does this mean City will end interest in Agger?

12 Aug 2012 23:46:06
Further to my last post,if Rodgers has any professional pride in his coaching abilities he should resolve himself to making a player of Spearing,a passionate young local lad who wants to wear the shirt.Surly this is what the game is all about at the end of the day and its not like we can't afford to give the boy a chance. If you visit this site Jay, ''f**k em''lad !! B

Think you used the word " em " instead of " off " - Brendan Rogers would have to be a magician, not a coach, to turn Spearing into Premier League footballer. May be a nice lad, a true fan and a good scouser ( although he is from The Wirral ) but unfortunately he is not, and never will be good enough, he is a lability - end of.

John B

That's why we finished in the position we did last season, because players like Spearing cost us games and I believe the FA Cp to a point of poor decision making for the second goal. I could go on all day about Spearing....you ask most Liverpool fans they will tell you the same.

Cheers Markolfc85

Re: Jay Spearing. I urge all to consider Sammy Lee, Ronnie Whelan...even Ray Houghton. Not glamorous at all, but ultimately integral to great TEAMS that have graced Anfield. TEAMS, by their very definition, cannot be filled with the Gerrard's and Saurez' of which we are so gleefully spoiled...they need their grafters: committed workers who toil for the cause! Think on guys. YNWA.

Wow then you bring Houghton and Whealen into it. Yes they did graft 100% , but my god they could play football and correct if I am wrong wasn't Steve McMahon our hard man and before him Souness and they played in the best LFC teams ever and they could play too........go back to what Rodgers said 100% is not good enough to live off, giving 100% is mandatory and you have to have ability. My only problem is, is here anyone illng to take Spearing off us.

Cheers

Its nice to support a player but that will not make him good he is very lucky to have played for lfc and we should accept that he is not good enough. wish him all the best and give the new guy support and we will see.

I would Imagine, depending on the transfers, this could be a very very very good team.

I know Reina's good, but I think he'd be better alongside ten others

Any truth in the Ramirez rumours? All over Twitter (I know its twitter!) about a quick deal being pushed through and medical tomorrow? JF92

You'd think after the last 200 twitter rumours being wrong that people would catch on.

12 Aug 2012 23:32:59
Jay Spearing is a very young man and as such has time to improve and obvious potential.I think Rodgers may-well stick by him as his commitment cannot be denied and this is what Rodgers wants.I think he'll stay, improve and become a legend.Remember the Lucas and Kuyt haters? !! B

You are just so wrong

Lucas is, and always was, a class player, Kuyt was a fantastic goalscorer in Holland when we signed him.

Notice how quick Rodgers got rid of Kuyt. He gave 100% commitment to the cause but lacked basic football abilities. Like Rodgers said you can't go off 100% commitment as being good enough, giving 100% is mandatory in all his players and the ability should be there. Am sorry if he gives 100% but he lacks footballing abilities. The difference with Lucas he always had the ability and gave 100%. But he never had the pace to play in his first position as a Attacking midfielder. Now he plays in a posistion more suited to his abilities. He can dictate play from the holding position and he can read the game very well and has a very good passing game and it doesn't need pace if you look at Hamann, Alonso ect.....

Cheers
