throwing this one out there to see what comes back. Citeh and Chelsea as we know spent big, big money over past few seasons. Their respective owners demand success. Then there's united who are awash with money. what then do people think the response of these big spenders will be to Liverpools electrifying resurgence?
Will they spend big again? Will they try and poach some of our players? Perhaps even our manager? Should we be worried? And conversely, what of our owners? Will they back Brendan financially given he will need to enlarge squad for champions league?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Don't think the owners will go crazy, 3 players might come in. Aspas, Assiadi, one central defender will go, Reina will go. That should give us £15m+ (Reina is on big wages too) combined with the champions league money. I don't think we need a host of players look at what it has done to Tottenham. We have plenty of youth to back us, Ibe, Ilori, Wisdom, Texiera, Borini, Kelly will play more of a part with our extra games.

I'm sure there will be interest in our players but unless they ask to go (i.e. if Madrid come after some of our big players) I don't think we will sell.

A Left back, Winger and a midfielder will probably come in. We are in a good position since Sterling/Coutinho can play across the wide positions or as a number 10. Allen, Lucas, Gerrard can all player holding and Flano, Johnson can play left back. Kelly started at centre back we have versatile players.

Agree0 Disagree0

So we're just ignoring the ~£109M (~£72M net) that Brendan has spent over the past 2 years? Sure City spent a bit more (~£154M, ~£107M net) over the same time frame as did Chelsea (~£215M, ~£130M net), but it's not like we've had zero investment either or are making money hand over fist.

Agreed with lmred, perhaps three or so in but I have no expectations of those being 'world class' players of the sorts I see being touted on here as transfer possibilities.

Agree0 Disagree0

RDL, I think we will see the type of player come in which we have tried to get in unsuccessfully over the last two windows.

Players that are on the cusp of breaking through like Costa, Mkhitaryan, Willian (maybe Kono/Salah will end up in this bracket). guys that only this season have had really great seasons at big clubs.

I think we are willing to spend 25 million on a single player since we bid in and around that for Costa, Mkhitaryan, Willian. I don't think we will go for guys who are openly coveted by the biggest clubs and get into a bidding war because we just don't operate that way.

In addition to this we might see talented castoffs come in again like Coutinho, Sturridge were. Maybe Bertrand guys who won't be overly expensive who we can coach into key players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed completely, lmred. My guess would be our most expensive signing might be a winger in that sort of range.

For LB, a lot depends on Enrique. If he leaves or is otherwise likely to be unavailable, then perhaps we will spend a bit more there.

We seem to be interested in a CM but frankly for me it isn't a necessity as I think Allen, Henderson, Gerrard, Coutinho, Lucas, Suso, and Teixeira are adequate coverage to be honest and Sterling can play there in a pinch as well.

I really don't see that we need much, to be honest. We've done pretty well and next year the younger players will be another year older, wiser, and even further improved and we've not done badly for really the last 18 months or so so I think we're past the 'it's a fluke' stage to some extent.

Agree0 Disagree0

I agree, but left back I think will be addressed. Enrique is our only senior left back, right backs are being used as cover but I'm sure Rodgers views it as less than ideal.

Bertrand is someone he worked with at Chelsea and Reading, but have a feeling he may join Villa permanently. I agree to an extent about CM. But I think its about more than Cover its about the ability to change systems. Of the players mentioned only Lucas is defensive minded, think Rodgers may want a different type of midfielder. Also Suso, Texiera, Coutinho aren't really central midfielders closer to numbers 10's.

I think the majority of purchases we make will either be replacements for outgoings OR players than allow Rodgers to change formations and systems. That said if no big players leave that's still only around 3 players.

Agree0 Disagree0

Excellent point RDL. BR has indeed spend quite a bit of money, which many people here seems to have missed.

You also make a very good point about Enrique. I think it very likely that Enrique, having missed pretty much the whole season, will have injuries next season. While Flanagan can cover at LB, I think we will be buying someone who can go straight into the first team. Bertrand, I don't think we will go for him now. Coentrao would be an excellent signing if we can get him in.

The CM issue will depend on what BR does with Suso I think. I don't think Alberto will be part of the squad next year. Maybe he will be loaned out or we may decide to cut our loss and sell him.

Agree0 Disagree0

@ RDL over the course of the last 5 seasons Manchester City's spending dwarfs that by Liverpool: in this timeframe City's net spend is just short of £480 million; compared to Liverpool's £90 million. While Chelsea have a net spend over same timeframe of £282 million.
With this in mind then. if City perceive Liverpool to be an emerging threat - it is therefore logical, given their policy [of buying their way to the top], to assume that there will be a financial response from them.
Chelsea however I'm not so sure about. The Russian has invested heavily in the past - but when he surveys what he currently has, well, it isn't great. In fact they're a team of grinders as Jaime Redknapp rightly labelled them yesterday. I believe they require much investment to add flair and to catch City and Liverpool - and as I say I'm not sure the Russian has the stomach for another spree.
I also believe United will spend. Perhaps Arsenal too. Problem is there are fewer and fewer top notch players to go around. Liverpool however have several of them in their ranks.
Should we be worried?

Hi Eds and Fellow Reds,

Going into Norwich and Chelsea games I am more nervy than I have ever been. No Hendo, and more than likely Sturridge also. Praying we can do this! YNWA

Have never been prouder to be a Liverpool fan than today.

From the way the fans greeted the boys in the way in to the incredible respect shown to the 96 Hillsborough Angels to the raw emotion at the end from our captain.

Gutted for Hendo as he has been immense all season, but luckily we have Allen or my choice Lucas to come in and fill that gap.

Only concern is Skrtl and his rash defending at times will eventually cost us, and Suarez us so pumped he seems to be going back to his old ways of going over too easy and antagonising refs.

With Studge maybe out now he needs to calm down a bit and continue the form that's going to win him the player of the year award this season in the EPL.

So happy Stevie has got through his games without being banned and would give my right arm to see him lift the big one.

No one deserves it more.

Once again, a prouder Red you will not find than me tonight up in Scotland, and not going to bed just in case today was just a dream.

Elderslie red
Skrtel has been immense, he may well give foul/pen/goal away in future but you can say that about ANY defender, look at Kompany today, that is the nature of his position, highest scoring defender as well apparently, give him a break and some praise will you.

Agree0 Disagree0

Alan I agree with you to a point. Skrtel is great when we play with a deep line, but he has a real lack of pace and his decision making is often questionable. He has been good this season, no question, and his goals are an asset to be revered. I do not think he is best suited to our play however, in a sense we're holding him back and vice versa. I would say he'd flourish in Italy as the game intensity is generally a lot lower than our style at least & the teams set up more defensively. Ed001 raised some excellent points about Skrtel earlier in the year about his style, I wonder if his opinion has altered, but I think he got it spot on.

Well done reds, some magnificent performances, Coutinho (mom for me), harassed city particularly in the first half and a cracker winner, Sterling superb, Skrtel rock, and Stevie, well inspirational I suppose would sum it up.

Liverpool U21s take on Everton at Southport's Haig Avenue on Monday night, the game is live on LFC TV and online from 6.30pm BST.
Kick-off is at 7pm.
This is Liverpool's final game of the league season before the end of season play-offs start to determine the overall national champions.
A win for the young reds will guarantee the only way that they can't finish top, is if Chelsea win their remaining 3 games and also bridge a goal difference which is currently +7 in favour of the reds.
Also a great result for Liverpool ladies too.
Martha Harris netted a debut goal and Natasha Dowie fired as Liverpool Ladies won 2-0 at Sunderland in the Women's FA Cup fifth round.
In their first match of the new season, the defending Super League champions were in impressive form as they reached the quarter-finals.
New signing Harris pounced to net the opener after Sunderland failed to clear a cross, and another debutant Gemma Davison created the second goal for goal machine Dowie to make it 2-0 in the second half.
Matt Beard's side start the defence of their title on Thursday when they take on Manchester City at the Halton Stadium in Widnes, at 7.45pm BST.
So all in all a gr8 weekend for us.
Great respect paid throughout the world for our 96 angels

Ed001 I'm just wondering if you still think I was wrong with what I said in January about Lucas having his last season? He's clearly a back up at best already & we know we'll attempt to buy a player in the advanced position he's had his rare minutes in lately. I know it's a squad game but would he be happy with a squad role?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Are we back to slagging off Lucas. Don't mean to brag but I have backed Lucas from day 1. I believe I am right and I think the last few games of the season will bring the last few disbelievers firmly onto the pro Lucas camp.
We're going to win the league :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Okay fair enough

Agree0 Disagree0

I think Lucas may benefit from moving into one of the two CM positions now that Stevie is first choice at DM. We have real options with Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson, Allen & Coutinho. Arguably we lack a goalscoring midfielder. I think someone like Sigurdsson would provide a useful further option and we have Suso, Alberto & Teixeira developing behind this group.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hell no to Sigurdsson, the guy would move to any team that offers him CL football.

Agree0 Disagree0

He hasn't got CL football. He signed for Spurs because they agreed to pay more for him than we were willing to. People get excited by players like Kovacic that they have never seen play and poo poo players with age, goals, knowledge of Rodgers tactics/style, experience of PL on their side. We are creating a squad of complementary players and for me he would be a sensible buy if we are looking for a versatile MF who scores goals. It's an opinion.

Making a prediction,

Liverpool will beat chelsea 3-0

And one tabloid will use the headline "now I am the master"

Furthermore Mrs aaiiii and aaiiii shall finish this bottle of Voddy, watch motd2, I'll get me some putang, then I shall enjoy my weeks annual leave with a serenity I haven't felt in, a long time

Am I the only one who thinks Sturridge has been off it a bit lately? Might need the rest. Anyway, great performance from the boys. Gerrard my man of the match, that huddle at the end of the game was inspirational. You can see he genuinely believes we can win it. The whole team believe it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Sterling my man of the match.
Although Gerrard deserves everything he's about to get. :)

Agree0 Disagree0

Both Sturridge and Suarez haven't been at their best the last two games. It happens.

Agree0 Disagree0

Sturridge needs to focus again. he's dating a supermodel, living in the most expensive penthouse in Liverpool and has recently bought a brand new Ferrari. He needs to focus on his football, I hope the games he is going to miss sorts his head out, makes him focus on what's important.

What a day. I would normally say that the win against Citeh was fantastic and that the crowd was brilliant and that I am so proud of Brendan Stevie and all the other lads.

Instead I just have a really deep feeling of sadness about the 96 and I just hope that their families and friends will be given justice.

This club means so much to us all but the football takes second place in my heart today.

Next weekend I will be back looking forward to the game at Norwich and some time soon I will watch a re-run of today’s match and enjoy the game itself.

Hendo is going to be a big miss but if you think about it this is going to let gerrard drag us over the line in a higher role now with the ban lifted who else has got the desire to push us that extra in midfield with lucas covering

Us gooners have been told off for being too nice to each other (whoops!)

But I wanted to say congrats today, really deserved and what a week to have a win like this, the silence for the 96, was immaculate, god rest thier souls.

The passion shown from Gerrard was truly inspirational, every neutral who is romantic about football should be hoping that you win the league.

Don't want to sound sour but I'm de devastated because I really believe it could have been us this year. But hey ho, rather you than Narsi or Mourinho.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cheers akie,

I'd personally much rather you boys won it then Manchester/chelsea

Appreciate the sentiment, Gerrard so deserves that medal for the player he has been for so long, but there's a long way to go, best of luck for forth

I would like to ask Supporters (and eds) a question about Brendan Rodgers. it is this; at what point does the man become a Liverpool legend? Is it the moment he wins a league title with us? Perhaps there are people who believe, based on his excellent brand of football and the fact that he dragged us back from mediocrity, that he already is a legend?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I cannot answer the core question but Brendo has adapted this season and it has worked. The side has done real well. If he saves a child from drowning he will become a Liverpool Legend. Otherwise it will be a while yet.}

To turn this club around in under 24 months is a great achievment. allthough nothings guaranteed yet I think he's a genius

Agree0 Disagree0

The day he chooses us over Real Madrid or Barca. (If they off him the job)

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It is only a game of football man - they won't off him.}

If he lands that title he's a Liverpool legend. Rafa is a legend for the champs league. Brendan has done something amazing, If he puts the icing on the cake then he is most certainly a Liverpool legend.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hello all.

I'm back to the site after an absence. I've been too busy to post but reading occasionally.

It has been a special day and inspired me to return to say good-day to my fellow reds.

I reckon if Brendan bring us back to the mountaintop he will immediately become a legend.

Not many managers win the title ever. To win the title this season, against two financial powerhouses, and with a squad that failed to make it into Europe last season - is even more impressive.

And we are playing some great football too!

If we manage to do it (I still refuse to say we can, lest I jinx it) we should build a big giant statue of St. Brendan outside Anfield. It should be as tall as the stadium itself and gilded with the finest gold-plating.

How the opposition would tremble at the sight of his steely golden gaze.

What a season. What a performance from the squad and staff.

Brendan could be a legend if he manages this, but I think he has the ability to do even greater things.

To create a team for the ages! A team to make Europe tremble once more!

Brendan could become a GOD!

Roll on Norwich!

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Apr 2014 22:21:53
There can be no exact definition of the word 'legend' through the eyes of a football supporter, that much is for sure.

If we were to lift the trophy ( please footballing gods let it be! ) then I would perceive BR to be a young manager who has exceeded all expectations, giving him a 'leg up' towards possible future 'legendary' status.

Awesome first half today. slightly dodgy second, but I don't care!
One step closer.

13 Apr 2014 19:58:38
I can't handle this one game at a time, let's not jinx it mantra. I am bursting to say this.

Technically we are two games away from knowing we will win the league. We beat Norwich and Chelsea and Everton beat City then we go to Palace game as Champions elect to do the business. The game against Newcastle will then just be a 90 minute parade.

That's just two more wins potentially. We'll never get a better chance. Do us proud boys!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - That is three games.}

Yes three games to win but that's not what I meant. Who cares though. Today is about enjoying the moment with one eye on the past and the other all about finding a way to pay tribute in such a historic year.

Agree0 Disagree0

Please please please I know it sounds like superstition but do it for us, we know what's happening we are all dreaming and thinking the same thing. Let's not jinx it though, we've all been so careful not to say it this season. When was the last time you heard let his is our year" come on, don't say it, just hope and scream the lads on.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Apr 2014 19:55:09
If I mean when we win do u think BR will b given serious financial backing? I'm talking 100 mill? The other part of the question is could we compete for any signing at that point?

I think Diego Costa would be the player we should go for?! Reminds me of Suarez how he plays and that would be an amazing statement to the rest of the footballing world if we could attract that level of player

I no I'm dreaming a bit here but TBF we r in dreamland at the moment.

Final point the game was won in the 96th minute today.

JFT96

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool wish to play in Europe and eventually not be docked points in the EPL then Liverpool needs to fix the issues it has financially - and they are trying hard but on reported accounts - a £1M per week loss picked up by the owners since day one. If Costa to arrive it will be at the expense of Suarez. Of the five clubs that objected originally to EPL FFP Liverpool was not one. They are after Manchester City the largest offender. The club will be supportive of the management team but will not want another £22M spent on players that have not scratched the surface at the club this year.}

I thought he'd already been well supported financially

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I see CL money as a great opportunity to start balancing the books. We need the club to be financially self sufficient. We have seen over the last few windows that BR doesn't need £100m to put together a decent squad, and in the past we've witnessed too many new players disrupt the development of the team as a whole. Look at spurs this season. They have signed really good players, Soldado, Eriksen, Lamela, all great players who have had little impact on Spurs success. I'd be happy with a few decent players that can be adapted to the league and BR's style of play to bolster our squad so we can handle the extra games. We don't need £100m to spend on new players, I trust BR to keep us competitive on much less than that.

Agree0 Disagree0

Minor point, but BR has actually spent over £100M on players since he came in. So by definition perhaps he does/did need to spend £100M?

Agree0 Disagree0

14 Apr 2014 05:06:24
Ed02, with a lot of squad players and some out on loan leaving this summer, along with the new "TV money", and CL football, do you see the figures coming down significantly?

I don't think we will be buying squad players or expensive bench warmers. 2 or 3 players is what I expect to come into the squad and I think they will replace Cissokho, Moses and perhaps Alberto.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Generally I agree but many want all of the players replaced.}

13 Apr 2014 19:52:51
Who was your man of the match?
Sterling for me. What composure for that first goal and he gave them problems most of the game. Ran out of steam a bit near the end but we would have lost without him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Coutimho for me.

What a game, what an occasion. Truly felt that the forever faithful 96 were there in spirit wishing every pass, decision, tackle and shot to go our way. The game felt almost as though the script was written. Of course, as a club we have walked through the storm, kept our heads held high, and never been afraid of the dark. Way Sterling has progressed this season. I know Ed001, myself and a number of others thought that Ibe would be the better player so with the progress of Sterling in mind is it not exciting to think we could have two top class English wingers if we develop Ibe in the same manner.

Could anyone let the rest of us fans know how Ibe has been getting on at Birmingham so far?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I was one of them but can't say I've seen too much of Ibe this last year and did not in anyway forsee the transformation of Raheem Sterling. Absolutely outstanding during the first half today. He was dribbling for dribbling's sake last year, now though, his every move is fuelled with purpose and desire. Even his passing is top drawer at the moment, and I would have suggested it were a weakness a fair few months back.
Of course one of the main things that I, and Ed01 as well I believe, thought Sterling was letting himself down on was a lack of strength, but, yes this is a little excuse making, he has now broadened out and he's looking a favourite to win 60/40s in the oppositions favour due to his physicality and determination.
If you'd told me 15 months ago a first XI including Raheem, Jordan (even though I've always been more of a fan than most as he's a similar player to me) and Jonny Flanagan would give the title as good a go as they have, I would've taken you to a rehab clinic, now though, alongside Lallana and Hazard, Sterling is one of the top wingers in the league.

Really hope that Lucas or Allen can step up and perform with the same intensity as Henderson against Norwich Chelsea and Palace, it is a 3 game ban isn't it?
Henderson has opitimised the Liverpool teams approach this season, keep going, keep working, keel pressuring. His fitness is fantastic and will be a massive miss against Chelsea.
Chelsea is the harder game betwee City and Chelsea for me. City can't defend and that was proven today, just as it was proven we struggle at the back. Chelsea are solid defensively but offer much less going forward. Offer it me now and i'd take a point against Chelsea.
I know a lot of people say things like this but I have truly being calling 3-2 all week. I did say 3-2 to either team, was 18-1 before the game but I don't bet on Liverpool games through superstition. Either team truly could have won that today, the decisive break fell to us and we won. Would have been a fair it richer if I had put my money down.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

But you should have been reduced to nine today after the theatrics displayed by Suarez going to ground looking for penalties having already been booked. I think it's called diving and he is the worst culprit this season and last. He makes Ashley Young look a total innocent especially with the accompanying facial reactions that go with it. Player of the season? No, a diver and a cheat. And he'll be off in the summer when Real come a knocking.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Apr 2014 20:03:16
Another dillusional blue.
I have no defense for Suarez diving to the ground but you have heard Alan Shearer and Co on Match of the Day say a lot of the time they would do the same in a lot of the same situations.
It is always Suarez who gets the abuse for this but what about Yaya Toure the other week? Januzaj? Dzeko? There are many players that do it and I do not condone it but you cannot single out Suarez for the style of play of a generation.
Fact is you cannot stand that we are challenging again, despite the fact that most Liverpool fans would congratulate their blue counterparts if they make the Champions League.

Agree0 Disagree0

He will be player of the year. And I don't see him leaving. Quite sad how bitter you are.

Agree0 Disagree0

Davey, you're completely allowed to have your opinion on Suarez . And in many ways you're correct.

However, my point is you seem to think we would crumble without Suarez. He is a very good player, but if you watched the game today he was very poor for his standard I thought, yet we still beat a team with multi million pound players!

If he were to leave, he would replaced with another good player or possibly a few.

We have some excellent young talents to build around such as sterling, coutinho.

So despite your hatred for him, I don't see your point what so ever.

Agree0 Disagree0

Thanks for the compliment Davey, nice coming from one of our neighbours. I really hope you guys get CL :-)

Really funny how bitter some blues are suarez is happy here he won't be going anywere but even if he did we could take a leaf out of your book and just loan a squad.

Just think of the players you lot could loan if you do scrape into the qualifying round of the champions league lol.

Credit to Manchester today.

I watched the match in a bar in Manchester City centre with a friend from uni who supports city.

The minutes silence was held impeccably by all, it was great to see.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I agree, they did themselves proud

Agree0 Disagree0

Me too. I just logged on to say the exact same thing. Wonder if we were in the same bar?
Well played Manchester.

Agree0 Disagree0

Watched in fuerteventura 50-50reds-blues minutes silence impeccable. Quite emotional tbh and good to see that one half of Manchester shows a great deal of class. Many thanks lads and a great game x

I'd hope it was like that in all bars stoneage, I was in Norwegian Blue in the printworks.

What guts! So proud! Strange looking at the table, only change is, is that it's now in ours and Chelsea's hands not city's, and if anyone can mastermind a win at anfield its Jose! I think city will drop points, can't see them winning all six, so I think 10 points could be enough! But each game as it comes, hendo will be a big miss, but come on you reds!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If of course Chelsea win all of their games it still needs city to drop points. It is an intriguing end to a season as three teams are in the mix. I am pleased for everyone here that Liverpool are in the mix.}

Oh yes, sorry ed! City vs everton and liv vs chelsea could decide the league! In my opinion chelsea are more likely to pick up 12 points than city are 18!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I would think there will be a twist and turn still to come. Tactically Chelsea are better at adapting and that will help them. Liverpool and Manchester City are doing well at scoring goals but Chelsea are not letting them in. Next weekend all three clubs are playing against sides in the "relegation zone" who will all be fighting hard whilst there is still a chance.}

Norwich Chelsea Palace Newcastle possible 12 points 10 would do

Agree0 Disagree0

City have to play West Brom Crystal Palce Everton and West Ham all capable of taking points off them

Agree0 Disagree0

I personally think the winner of the Liverpool - Chelsea game wins the league

Agree0 Disagree0

What if it's a draw Chris?

Agree0 Disagree0

If it's a draw I think we win the title

Cheers Ed02 they are nice comments. One of the commentators during the Chelsea Swansea game said that if we Chelsea win all their games they will win it and we was all sitting here confused. Could be why the original poster thought that.

This season has been amazing was up from 430
This morning waiting for the game could not sleep though have had many of those nights for the last few months. As I have have had to give up work because of illness and am on the verge of losing my home. But the team has kept me going with the spirit they have shown. I just hope they can keep it up and win the league now. Have been following the pool since I was 5 am 40 now. And I thought Roy Evans played brilliant football Rodgers has them playing the best football I have ever seen in a red shirt. Would like to hear ed 1s view on the game

You are embarassing. Going into our rivals' page and gloat about the team where we did not even win anything yet. So please stop doing it.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

SaZ, it's called defending your team..................

{Ed002's Note - You are being a bit of an embarrassment on both pages now. Try not to be abusive - I and the other Eds don't have the time to keep editing your posts but we do have the time to cut you off for a few days.}

I don't understand what the problem is, I never use offensive words in my post, it's funny that United fans are allowed to post whatever nonsense they want onto our page yet when we return the favor our post's get edited / not posted.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Certain Eds will let stuff go and others will edit it. Me, I'll just delete it and then ban the person who is screwing me around. So take this as a yellow card for bothering me with this stuff.}

Plymouth red, bad losing is one thing (aka utd fans) bad winning is another! Let the team do the talking and by the end, hopefully we can silence them!

Agree0 Disagree0

We've won a game not a trophy. An important game, yes, but if we do not pick up 3pts at Norwich we've stumbled. We're still in it, so are Chelsea and so are City. I enjoyed the game and the win! By the way the game as a footballing specticle was brilliant and city were very good second half.

Great win for Liverpool, but some good news for City, too. Coming down the home stretch, Sergio Aguero is clearly winning the bad haircut contest with Philippe Coutinho. Tip of the hat to the crowd today. Awesome as always.

Whether its true or not I don't know but a journalist friend of mine told me that giroud will be sold in the summer due to off field issues. My question is this.

Would anyone be opposed to him joining us? He would be a great player to provide support for suarez and Sturridge and would mean they would do less running due to his hold up play. In addition to that he's a great player to come off the bench when we would like to change up or system and provides an aerial that (which we don't really have now), due to arsenal having a similar wage structure he wouldn't cost the moon and is already e p l and champs league experienced. IF arsenal are willing to sell I think he might be a shrewd buy. Anyone disagree?

Nevada

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Giroud is absolutely useless, no thank you, he has the pace of a tortoise and has no work ethic whatsoever.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's alright. Not great though. We could find better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I would be opposed - wrong sort of player for our team and in all honesty he would not come cheap. If we were going to sign another forward we could do much better.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he is great at anything. Also, I don't think he will be a happy bunny sitting on the bench.

Agree0 Disagree0

"giroud will be sold in the summer due to off field issues"

So why would we want to buy him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

13 Apr 2014 16:46:39
What a win. We need to stop dropping off in the second half. We are the worst defensive team to ever challenge for a title. We can't defend on our 18 yard line at all ha. We should just keep pressing. why do people keep saying its in Chelsea's hands? Hate to burst there bubble but if chelsea beat us at anfield city will go one point ahead of them with their games in hand.

They say history repeats itself.

John Henry (&Co) buys the red sox and three years later they win a world series.

John Henry buys LFC and three years later we win a title?

Should we win a title I think every single critic of Henry and Rodgers should be apologising to them on this forum since they will have proven everyone wrong. Great owners, great manager and great team restored to greatness. I've always been a supporter of Henry and FSG and I was willing to give Rodgers a chance and not let the fact he followed king Kenny colour my expectation and opinion.

Nevada

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Cool down Nevada, we have still four finals left

Agree0 Disagree0

I think city will drop points against Everton and suarez will probably beat Norwich on his own as usual. A point against Chelsea and one against palace plus a win against whipping boys Newcastle will give us a title. I don't believe in superstition or jinxed and I fully believe the title is coming to Anfield.

I felt confident enough that 8 weeks ago I placed a £1000 bet on it. Anyone who has followed my posts over the last couple of years know me as a pragmatist who doesn't let his feelimgs get in the way.

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

You're the guy, remember, that was insistent with his stats that we didn't need Suarez either.
And as for Giroud.

Agree0 Disagree0

That's true juicer but I did base my stats approach on suarez previous seasons and not emotions. Everything I said was correct at the time and I'm very happy that both suarez and Sturridge have proven me wrong.

I don't see the issue with giroud, I didn't say but him as a first team player, only that he would be useful and provide a different dimension to our attack when we need a change.

I am also the guy that said coutinho was taking English lessons and had been asked about joining Liverpool a full 8 months before anyone else did, that alonso wouldn't come back unless it was as a coach, that FSG had done a good job and that Madrid wouldn't sign suarez ( when everyone said they would) so.I get some things right. I also said konoplyanka would sign, we didn't need suarez, that Sturridge was not the best option at the time. I get some wrong too.
I do and always will share my opinion and information because I like to be part of this big football family. Great day for us

Nevada

Agree0 Disagree0

It was a fabulous day, and a fabulous season so far in fact.
Giroud is a good player, don't get me wrong.
But he doesn't run in behind defences.
We had Carroll remember, all that Plan B stuff?
Another quick forward in the mould of Salah / Kono is the way we'll go.
Have a good one my man anyway.

In just 96 seconds it is 25 years that Liverpool remembers the pain and the tears
But today is to celebrate from all terraces and stands
That dark day at Hillsborough that took all our fans!
With Justice and memory we pray up above
And today stand together for the club that we love

The football world joins us in respect and with awe that the club of the people is rising once more

And there is no better starter than the task faced today where we take on the City on a memorable Day
The blues will be strong and will come with much hope
But there facing a strike-force to which no team can cope
And so I predict with a confident grin that the team will take three points and a glorious win!

Rodgers did well to keep his mouth shut for a long period, but I notice he's started becoming arrogant to the media again. Now he's telling man city how to run a club. Firstly, we have spent the third most amount of money since the Premier League began. Secondly, we've achieved nothing. Now Rodgers has created a situation whereby if we falter in these last 5 games, everyone will be laughing at us. It was better when he kept humble and talked about one game at a time.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Totally disagree with you pal I think he's been perfect in his interviews.

Agree0 Disagree0

Rubbish!
He has said that the two clubs today are run completely differently.
He has put pressure on them by pretty much saying that the amount of money they spend and have spent recently means they have to or should be winning everything.
Also, since BR took over, I don't imagine that we are still in the top 3 spending clubs in the premier league.

He can only really answer the questions put in front of him. People seem to forget about this.

Today's prediction: 3-1

Sturridge, sterling, and Gerrard (pen)

Stick your predictions below.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I'm also going for 3-1.

Suarez(2) and Sturridge to score.

I would go for the 4-4-2 Diamond with Sterling just behind the front 2. If Kompany is out, I can see our front 3 being too much for Demichelis and Lescott.

Also, it may be a good idea to play Lucas and Hendo at either side of the diamond too to deal with the threat of Toure and Silva. Hopefully Sakho will start alongside Skrtel again today.

Morning eds, hope your well on this massive day!
Just wondering what are your thoughts on deulofeu?
do you see him breaking into the barca team?
any chance we would try to sign him?
he quick skillful confident, think he would fit in well.
thanks again eds love your work!

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has not shown any interest in him.}

Hi ed, I hear from mirror news Brendan Rodgers want demand more control over transfers when he opens talks about a new Liverpool contract at the end of season, is that true?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I really have no idea.}

Really excited about going to the match Eds.
It's a long time since I've been this excited without being nervous before such a big game. I think it's because of the confidence coming from the gaffer and the players.
But I would like us to win comfortably with a 2-0 or 3-0 which will reduce or even wipe out Citehs current goal difference advantage.

A pointless post, I know but all the same.

Just wondered what lfc supporters honestly got RIGHT and WRONG this season.

For me on the right side were;
1) Spurs got too many players in and would struggle to reach top 4
2) That Brendan Rodgers was the right man for the job
3) That Skrtel should stay and be given another chance

On the completely wrong side;
1) We should sell Suarez as was going to miss games again due to temprement
2) That we may make top 4 but would be a huge ask and fourth at best
3) I also if honest thought we would lose against spurs, which obviously was badly wrong!

Right over to you guys. What did you get right and wrong for this current season

Ok, thinking about it I really did get a lot wrong. I really wanted us to sell Suarez as I was convinced he would miss games again and disrupt the dressing room, how glad am I now that we didn't! I thought Spurs would be more likely to get 'our' 4th spot as I didn't think we'd be able to compete with them, Chelsea, City and Arsenal. I didn't expect Sterling to improve as immensely as he has this season. I certainly didn't think we'd have the squad to challenge for the league! I also didn't think Flanno would step up to the plate like he has.

On the other side, I rightly thought Sturridge would have a great season, and I didn't think united would get champions league. The last one is a matter of opinion, but I thought we should get Christian Erikson, he seems to have adapted well to the league, would love him to play for us!

All in all, really pleased to be proved so wrong!

Really nervous about today, come on guys let's do this!

Cheers

For me on the right side were;
1) We were getting into the top4
2) That Brendan Rodgers was the right man for the job
3) Suarez should stay at all cost
4) Utd's demise, although not by this much so I have to give fate the credit.

On the completely wrong side;
1) Didn't see Skrtel having an amazing turnaround
2) Thought Flanagan was out the door
3) Gerrard won't be able to adapt to DM (I was screwing after the first two games)
4) Thought we would drop more point against Mid/Bottom table teams
5) Though Henderson would be a highly used, but not a star performer

Basically most of my doubt were based on last seasons showings.

Agree0 Disagree0

Right side:

1) Suarez must stay
2) Henderson will come good (said a couple of years ago)
3) Rodgers a good manager worth persisting with

wrong side:

1) outside chance of top 4
2) Thought Joe Allen would be a complete liability
3) Thought Gerrards time was drawing to a close.
4) Thought Skrtels days were numbered
5) Though Spurs and United would finish ahead of us
6) when we first signed sturridge I was convinced he wouldn't succeed

to be honest there is probably tons more to add to the "wrong" side that I simply cannot remember.

Good day, my fellow redmen! As we rise this morning with a mixture of excitement, nervousness, hope and faith in our club as a whole, let us take this wonderful occassion to once again pay our respects to 96 courageous and dearly departed loved ones from our wonderful family. Let us use this day to show our love and affection for our departed family members and continue to do them proud by serving and supporting our great club with dignity, passion and pride.
As for the game, we have an opportunity to continue to dream and hope for a first league crown in 24yrs. Our players have been called to battle for the invaders from the blue half of Manchester have converged at the doorsteps of our Anfield home. Our players must realize that NO MATTER what tranpires before, during and after the game, they must not retreat nor surrender. They must stay together, united and strong during the storm. They must not fear for the tens of thousands of fans in England and millions around the world are behind them and will never cease to support them. They have given us so much joy and hope with the level of football they have graced this season with.
As for the blue invaders who will enter our mythical cauldron of Anfield Road today, I have only one request from the Liverpool faithful present at the ground this afternoon.: GIVE THM HELL! For this is our home, our shrine, our dwelling. THIS IS ANFIELD!

I've been thinking about the expression 'the 12th man' in relation to the effect of how the supporters help the team and have decided that every team has a 12th man that helps their team. What makes us different is that our 12th man becomes a 13th or even 14th when it matters. Especially at Anfield. Just wish the floodlights could be on.

Hello eds with are so called number 1 keeper not being a top keeper is there any chance of us getting someone outstanding because he's so slow and dodgy never been a fan but he looks so much worse for us than Sunderland with barce being banned could we rob ter stagen a young class keeper courios would be perfect but I understand we wouldn't get him what do you think

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed030's Note - I personally would like to buy a goalkeeper who could challenge Mignolet for his place as Brad Jones as much as I like him isn't really going to challenge Mignolet. I think what Mignolet needs is someone to challenge him for his place. }

Mignolet is doing grate just grate 1st season he will improve

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Cleaning out the fires man.}

Unfortunately Jones isn't even first choice for Australia.

Better off going for Mitch Langarak who is very talented but stuck as the young understudy at Dortmund. He has even played UCL, so has some experience.

My other choice would be Mat Ryan from Club Brugge. Young and very talented. Pretty much guaranteed to be the Socceroos No 1, so he'll get plenty of experience against world class attacks at the WC (ESP, NED, CHI). :)

migs is a top keeper were top so stop finding stuff to pick at

I'm not too sure I buy into the 2 keepers to push each other thing.
Even the clubs with 2 good keepers, 1 always ends up playing 2nd fiddle, plus none of the other top clubs rotate keepers, could breed more inconsistency at the back.

I also think Jones has done really well when he's been called on.

This is an embarrassing post. Firstly, other than the city and Chelsea game what other glaring errors that have cost us points has mignolet made? Add to that the game against Stoke where he made the double penalty save winning us the 2 points. He also made a big save against benteke in the 2nd game of the season protecting our 1-0 lead. He was also outstanding against Everton making several great saves for us to draw the game. He is also 24 and settling in quite well I think. Why would you replace him with a 20 year old keeper who is not much more than pure potential at the moment?

immediately Kompany head the name 'Sakho', he fainted, that's the injury news. By the way thanks to Ken Aguero for your lucky pants, and thanks to Simon pw for your updates on the youth teams. Really appreciate them! Cheers! A Ghanaian red!
