So another keeper change for tomorrow. Are we sticking with this one?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

12 Sep 2017 21:42:04
Yes until Saturday!

12 Sep 2017 23:29:47
I suspected at the start of the season that Klopp would use Karius in the CL group games and Migs in the Prem, so it's not impossible that Harry is right.

But Migs needs benching and I really hope Karius is given a run in both the CL and PL to establish himself.

13 Sep 2017 02:06:37
When you ship five goals you're out. No matter what, especially if there is another eager, capable keeper snapping at his heals.
I hope we stick with loris.

13 Sep 2017 06:02:10
If only we could stick with Lloris!

13 Sep 2017 07:22:57
Let's hope Karius as a cracking game tonight and puts himself to number 1 spot for league games.

13 Sep 2017 07:33:52
Karius will become better than spurs keeper imo. He just needs to settle into the role. Get a few more clean sheets under his belt and his confidence will grow. He will stop making mistakes and he is a brilliant shot stopper.

13 Sep 2017 09:33:39
"Get a few more clean sheets under his belt and his confidence will grow. "

Are we sending him on loan then? 😄.

13 Sep 2017 09:38:31
Spot on, boys. Migs has reached his ceiling and that is no news to anyone so it is time Karius got some game time and using him in the CL to me, is a sign that Klopp may be slowly phasing Migs out as every no. 1 GK wants to play in the CL and now that he has potentially been demoted, it is time for Karius to take his shot and run with it. He is a better GK in some areas than Migs (sweeper-keeper role, quicker off his line and better distribution) so it is up to him to get in there and get it done.

12 Sep 2017 21:08:03
Have we become the new Ozzie Ardiles' Tottenham?
I remember they were amazing going forward but just couldn't defend to save their lives.
They had 5 attackers and 5 defenders and nothing in between.
It was crazy and they were a bit of a joke to the opposition.
Have we gone/ are we going down the same road I wonder?

Believable7 Unbelievable10

12 Sep 2017 21:22:47
We had the 6th best defence in the PL last season and kept 7 clean sheets in our last 11 games in the PL. Not sure Ozzie's Spurs got anywhere close to that.

12 Sep 2017 21:54:17
Only asking for opinions lol, I'm certainly not stating facts.

12 Sep 2017 22:00:05
But I would love us to emulate the current Spurs. 86 goals scored and only 26 conceded last season! Full marks.

12 Sep 2017 22:02:02
We're not that different in our approach. Maybe closer to Keegan's Newcastle?

13 Sep 2017 00:04:14
I feel more like we are the new Arsenal, we play some great football but we are also totally spineless and can collapse at any time.

13 Sep 2017 02:16:38
Spurs have a deadly top top striker. Which is something we don't have. Fair enough, the wingers get a few our false nine gets a few and the midfield chip in also. I think sturridge should be given another chance, if he breaks after kicking the ball then I think fans will start to lose faith in him. I think he is serious high class, very clever player, I don't see how he doesn't fit our system. He just needs to run more and work constantly.

I think a deadly goal scorer would take us to the next level. We are a better team than spurs. All day
We always beat them. But harry kane is fantashshic! Lol (sorry that was below the belt) Ali well over rated. I do not see what all the hype is about. I don't watch spurs much I admit, always watch motd though, I've never seen him di anything except tap ins and one decent long shot, not that special imo, could be wrong.

12 Sep 2017 20:33:42
Looking forward to seeing our youths play tomorrow in the UEFA youth league match, almost as much as the match later that night at Anfield.
We have some really talented attack minded youths as we know.
I'll personally be interested to see if we have any good young CBs coming through other than Masterson.

12 Sep 2017 20:06:55
A Spanish Reporter over here for tomorrows match and he also watched the City Game, asked Jurgen after the match in his Post Match Conference would Coutinho play on WEDNESDAY.

Jurgens Reply was what i found VERY ALARMING he said to the Spanish Reporter that have you got the Day Right and in fact asked the Liverpool Press Secetary who sits alongside him at post match interviews its TUESDAY isn't it and the Liverpool Press Secretary replied no he is right its WEDNESDAY to which Jurgen Laughed and said in that case then we get an extra days rest.

Surely he must look ahead and know when the next fixtures are for rest, training sessions ETC i am very concerned about his reply as it indicates to me that the pressure is starting to get to him and may be the reason for some strange team selections so far.

P. S. If he buys a " NET " and starts chasing Butterflies at Melwood the men in the white coats may take him away. WORRIED.

Believable1 Unbelievable16

12 Sep 2017 20:17:53
Are you alarmed mate or worried? Can't work it out. Let us know. Cheers.

12 Sep 2017 20:27:48
He temporarily forgot the day = pressure is getting to him = the reason why we've seen such strange substations recently

Some big leaps there mate.

12 Sep 2017 20:41:31
Your not worried that the Manager of LFC doesn't know what day of the week we play our next fixture, to me it sounds like he is losing his marbles.

12 Sep 2017 20:47:18
SGRed, What has " substations " got to do with it, are you advising Jurgen!

12 Sep 2017 20:58:15
It's quite likely to be German humour Mr. Bond.
I lived there many years ago, they're not really known for being a barrel of laughs.
I have found their Eurovision song contest contestants over the years to be hilarious though :)
And then there was Sean Dundee - wow!

12 Sep 2017 21:00:06
Didn't understand one post in that tread,

12 Sep 2017 21:07:46
2 weeks ago we smashes arsenal 4.0. We have just lost one game. If pressure from one loss causes him to lose days then he shouldn't be a football manager.

12 Sep 2017 21:25:02
Mr Bond, I haven't the slightest idea what you are on about, really?

12 Sep 2017 21:51:36
Hi TOMBOLA ( Another name for Bingo! ) Me first name is BROOKE, and i have you down to a " TEA "?

12 Sep 2017 22:03:29
Are you trying to say that he took off Salah and Firmino with Tuesday in mind?

Hope they both enjoyed the training today lol.

12 Sep 2017 22:44:18
He was probably being sarcastic because Barcelona played tonight and all the Spanish media were adamant coutinho was signing for Barcelona.

12 Sep 2017 23:32:38
I think he was a bit annoyed that we had to play at lunch time on Saturday after the international break so thought it must be because we're playing on Tuesday in the CL to give us extra rest for that. Sorry Jurgen the EPL doesn't work that way mate. If Sly say you're playing then you're playing as and when they tell you to. I think he was being a bit sarcastic.

12 Sep 2017 23:54:37
Jurgen's low on vit. B3.

13 Sep 2017 00:10:39
I'm WORRIED and ALARMED by THIS thread AS it SEEMS to BE a RATHER pointless KLOPP bashing EXERCISE based ON nothing!

13 Sep 2017 02:25:56
Nice one smegger. We have one of the best managers in the world. He plays the media acting like the tourist but I bet he can be a hard person. I love our style and I think we will win the league with him. I don't think he will give up. Next year with keita and hopefully a decent cb, I reckon saints will bite the bullet as he clearly don't want to be there. If we could land someone like aguero or sanchez and mat hummels I think that would be us set. 3 players away from a completely dominant team. Despite last game I still think we will dominate nearly every game this season and I still think we can win the league

No need to get a keeper as I think karius will have cemented his place and I think he will become one of the leagues best gks. If you watch him in training he is absolutely awesome.

13 Sep 2017 09:35:02
How is Tombola another name for Bingo?

13 Sep 2017 09:41:46
Mr Bond, I still don't understand any of your posts. Trust me, it's not me. It's you.

12 Sep 2017 19:50:42
Joe Gomez has been the shining light in our defence. Expect big things from him this season.

Moreno has improved but it is quite clear he ain't going to be good enough as our 1st choice LB. Robertson now needs to be given a run.

We have always had success with Scottish players, Klopp let Robertson stretch his legs.

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed025's Note - i dont see why not max, he cant be any worse than anyone else who,s been given a chance mate..

12 Sep 2017 20:59:03
Exactly ed025. That was ed01's theory and I totally agree. I think he may be a little shakey in his first couple of games but I think he would become solid. Hanson was wobbly in first start but became one of the best cbs in the world.

I'd be tempted to play Milner at right back but we need some stability so keep the RB that's played the last few matches. TAA is someone who will improve quickly with games. So this would be my defence and we should stick with it.

Karius

TAA GOMES lovren Robertson

Can Hendo wijnaldum

Mane firminio coutinio.

I know people really want to see cout's in a deeper role but salah is not well and pc will play in his place. I want my best striker near the goal, not battling in midfield and getting a knock maybe.

{Ed025's Note - my back 4 would be...milner, gomes, matip, robertson... superred, i know matip was awful at city but i think there is a decent player in there somewhere mate..

12 Sep 2017 21:26:28
I like that lineup, Superred BUT I would bench Wiji for Cou in midfield.

12 Sep 2017 23:36:49
Surely AOC has to take Salah's place with Couts coming in for Can or Wiji? I'd bench Can myself but it's a close call between the two. As for the back 4 Robertson has to come in. I'd have Matip and Lovren for the first CL game for their experience and Gomez at right back he did well there against Arsenal.

12 Sep 2017 23:43:30
I agree with ed25 on Matip, as bad as he can be he is still better than Lovren and Klavan. Just shows how bad our main cbs actually are ;__;

13 Sep 2017 01:55:13
Matip needs to be benched. Lack of effort is the worst a player can do on the pitch and Matip is guilty of that. At least Lovren tries so I'd go with Gomez and Lovren in the next BPL game. Against Sevilla, I would stick with Matip and Lovren.
And Robertson and Gomez should be our full backs in the high profile games coz they are better defensively. TAA against lower half opposition who like to park the bus.

13 Sep 2017 02:31:13
Yeah I fancy Milner for RB To be honest. We need someone to organise that lot. Im torn on lovren or matip. But I think gomes should get his chance now. Maybe wait for Burnley instead of ucl game. Matip is better on the ball but lovren gets stuck in more. Robbo has got to get his shot at lb though. I don't like the idea of moreno playing against seville again. Last time he handed them the trophy all wrapped up in red and white.

13 Sep 2017 02:37:32
Yeah good idea ings. Can't wait to see AOC start a game. Coutinio is better in a four man midfield though and we usually line up with three. That's my only concern. Pc scored a lot of really important goals from that left wing, out of nothing and the ball's in the net! I like him working further up the field, it seems an unpopular choice but it's my opinion, that's all.

12 Sep 2017 19:47:10
This is for Ed25:

Ed25, this is regarding the post I put in below:

Ed25, Koeman played a defensive setup at Saints with Wanyama and Morgan in front of the defence, which made Lovren look good as he was well-protected. We don't play that way here hence, why he looks shaky at times.

Now Klopp used a DM in Kehl and then Bender or both in his early days in BVB. He then shifted to a DLP in Sahin when they won the league in 2011. At LFC, he does not use a true DM cos per ED01, he wants his midfield 3 to offer energy, press hard and defend as a group as soon as the ball is lost. This is the way we play the press cos if we press and the gaps are not filled in behind it, the press is useless and we become vulnerable. That is the way it is. If you want to argue about that, no issues there.

The CDM issue is just a pathetic misnomer and a false argument that brings nothing useful to the table. If you think a CDM would have helped us vs City when we were one man down then you are either naive or dishonest as we did not need a CDM to pummel all the top teams that Klopp has relentlessly pummeled since he arrived so why is it now suddenly an issue?

You may have thought that I called you dishonest or naive. That is and was not the case. The "you" in there does not refer to you personally, in any way. It is just used to refer to "whoever" had the notion that a CDM would have helped us at City playing a man down which IMO, would not have helped. Again, it was not a personal attack at you, particularly. If it cam across as an insult then, I am sorry. That was not my intention nor did it even cross my mind.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

{Ed025's Note - fair enough bingo but it did come across that way and thats why i took umbrage, the ED,s put in a lot of time and effort to make sure posts get aired mate and we do it for free, i am many things but dishonest is not one of them but as far as lm concerned the matter is now closed and we move on..

12 Sep 2017 20:22:11
A CDM will definitely help against the crap CB's yiubhave got. Well a good CDM would have marked out KDB which our 3 CM's failed to do so as he started picking players like paint balls on the field.
Why does 95% managers plays with one or the other CDM / DLP? Are they all dumb and Klopp the only genius out there?

A CDM on Sunday would have made sure KDB did not get any space! That alone would have saved 3 out of the 4 goals!

12 Sep 2017 20:29:44
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Napoli. 4 different teams with 4 different playing styles and all of them plays with a proper DM / holding midfielder.

{Ed001's Note - Napoli don't and Chelsea don't any more without Matic.}

12 Sep 2017 20:37:18
When Kevin De Bruyne was picking out the spots left exposed due to Klopp going with a back three?

You make me laugh Harry, always a good shout when you post about us needing a defensive midfielder and the fact that you say it will make our current CB's perform better.

Ha ha. Let me go get my adult diapers too.

12 Sep 2017 20:39:05
4 goals? I wonder if one of these amazing CDM's could teach you to count, Harry? 😉.

12 Sep 2017 20:42:15
Chelsea has Kante who is equavalent to a DM ( Positionally sound Midfielder ) while they have also signed Drinkwater who is a DM. Napoli plays with Jorginho who is an holding mid.

The point is not what they are called ( DM, CM, DLP ) The point is how good they are positionally in the art to stop an attack and break a play.

On similar. Barcelona scored one and with Pjanic not tacking back Messi and boom! Typical example of how we concede!

12 Sep 2017 20:44:15
Just like most of the opposition manager deploy a CDM to mark out Coutinho.

12 Sep 2017 21:34:50
No problem, Ed25. I'm over it.

Harry outside of the posts you have made on this thread that I cannot make head nor tail of, what is this thing with you when you address Klopp and our players as "your players", your CB's" or "your manager"? What the heck is that all about? Are these not your players and manager as well? I know I have asked you this b4 and you did not answer so I will ask again, are you an LFC fan cos you sound like the Utd, Arsenal fans or Ed25 who come on this thread to trade banter with us?

12 Sep 2017 22:03:02
You could consider me as a Football fan bingo! No problem mate. Unfortunately I don't post on other pages so that rules out other clubs mate.

12 Sep 2017 23:50:23
Still doesn't rule you out as a supporter for another club Harry. You say you don’t post on other clubs sites but how do we know? You've had so many different names you could be anybody on any site haha.

13 Sep 2017 01:58:30
"A CDM will definitely help against the crap CB's yiubhave got".

Looks like Harry just disowned the entire CB lineup at LFC. Don't worry buddy, everyone knows they are piss poor defenders but we got to stick with them for now until we sign not one but two competent CBs (and that might take a while) .

13 Sep 2017 03:33:55
City game was the kind of game we could have done with lucas lieva. He was class against city last year.

13 Sep 2017 09:44:23
Superred, Lucas did not play either game vs City last season BUT I get what you are saying overall.

12 Sep 2017 19:46:20
Booked my flight and leaving for Sevilla in the morning. I have a hotel close to the ground, no ticket yet but hoping to get one outside the ground, anyone know if they have touts there?

12 Sep 2017 19:52:08
Mate its at anfield I think.

12 Sep 2017 19:54:48
Correct me if an wrong mate but we are playing at home.

12 Sep 2017 19:55:11
You might have booked that flight to Sevilla to go watch LFC in a pub mate.

Match is at Anfield. Cancel the flight ASAP.

12 Sep 2017 20:17:14
😂😂😂😂😂 oh my days thus is the funniest post on here, ever.

12 Sep 2017 20:26:45
He has a good username 😄.

12 Sep 2017 20:30:54
Hoping the clue is in his name. otherwise that's one monumental cock up!

12 Sep 2017 23:42:22
I really hope that's not a joke! 😂😂.

12 Sep 2017 19:07:27
Hi Eds
Thanks for all the hard work over the transfer window.
I didn't hear anything after the talk he might go to Turkey, did Markovic get a move anywhere in the end?
Thanks.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - no mate.}

12 Sep 2017 19:00:15
Training photos. Reckon they get buddy'd up in advance for warm ups / stretches etc- or they choose?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Sep 2017 18:48:49
Ed001 I see that Michael Beale has returned to the club. Do you think he could move up the ladder or is under age where his niche is?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he would be a good coach at any age group mate, personally though, I think the best coaches should be coaching at the lower age groups. That is when they can have the most impact on improving players. I think we have it wrong promoting the better ones to the higher age groups.}

12 Sep 2017 19:16:22
Hmmm. Should the best coaches experience all ages then, and go back to their personal best fit? Iits a funny old game 🤔😊.

{Ed001's Note - yes that would be the ideal really.}

12 Sep 2017 18:23:04
Tried asking opinions on this earlier but it didn't get posted for one reason or another I think.

If you had to choose the best 4 man defence and keeper from players in the EPL right now, who would you pick?

Courtois, Azpilicueta, Alderweireld would be 3 of my 5 personally.
I'm sure many would add Van Dijk and Benjamin Mendy.
I haven't seen enough of them in all honesty to put them in.

Thoughts anyone?

I'm especially looking for a couple of names that maybe we wouldn't expect but look the real deal - not Klavan before anyone tries it :)

Believable0 Unbelievable1

12 Sep 2017 18:29:50
De Gea, Luiz, Alderweireld, Bellerin and Baines.

12 Sep 2017 18:38:13
Vvd, Soares, alonso, kompany ( not injured)

12 Sep 2017 18:38:33
Loris in nets.

12 Sep 2017 18:41:12
De Gea would be the keeper.
I don't think there are any outstanding defenders to be honest.

12 Sep 2017 18:41:22
Degea (coleman pre injury) today bellerin at rb. Alderwield vertongan as the best pair mendy lb.

12 Sep 2017 19:11:22
Gk: De Gea
Rb: Alderweireld
Cb: Kompany
Cb: Vertonghen
Lb: Bertrand

Don't really think their is a right back in the league worthy of a dream team to be honest.

12 Sep 2017 19:16:46
At this point of the season my defence would look like this

De Gea
Gomez Bailly Alderweireld Kolasinac.

12 Sep 2017 19:36:56
Great line up, MK. I love Cedric at RB, myself.

12 Sep 2017 20:29:44
Interesting picks there lads. Soares, Bretrand and Alonso are ones to watch.
Somehow I had forgotten about De Gea - he's outstanding on his day.
Good replies lads - cheers!

12 Sep 2017 20:34:17
De gea
Azpilicueta, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Mendy.

12 Sep 2017 20:40:59
Mat hummels and vvd would be brilliant and they both seem like possible transfers.

Ed mate, do you know how long VVD's contract at Southampton is please?

Those two and TAA and Robertson we would have an amazing defence imo.

{Ed025's Note - june 2022 mate..

12 Sep 2017 21:12:33
Thanks for the reply ed025, good man, that's a shame about his long contract from a liverpool point of view. Do you think there is a chance we might still sign him? I have a feeling they are going to sell him to arsenal.

{Ed025's Note - i think his future lies outside of southampton superred, who he goes to im not sure but i would still think liverpool are in with a good chance mate..

13 Sep 2017 02:40:32
I hope so. Really like hummels aswell. Cheers for the reply mate. Tc.

{Ed025's Note - no worries mate..

12 Sep 2017 17:49:17
Hi ed what do you think of Woodburn being included in the u19 euro squad. Don't you think he's outgrown youth football.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - good experience for the lad if you ask me.}

12 Sep 2017 17:57:06
Agree with ed001, seriously he is not even top 10 u-19 players, experiences like these will help him improve.

12 Sep 2017 17:59:17
Woodburn is still only 17. No point in hyping him up when he still has to develop and needs to be given the chance to develop.

If he is going to be thrown in the deep end he will drown like many other of the other young talents who have come and gone at Liverpool.

12 Sep 2017 18:22:07
Woodie should stay exactly where he has been put for now as he will benefit playing vs other talented young players from the clubs in our CL group. BTW, Seville are known to have a sick academy, full of talented youngsters.

12 Sep 2017 21:22:40
I think he needs to get used to playing in big games with big audiences. They can all play, it's the ones who can do it in front of 50.000 people and millions on camera. But it's the crowd that gets em. Look at wijnaldum, he is brilliant in front of 45.000 adoring fans but goes missing in front of 45.000 hostile fans. It must be quite weird, playing football in front of loads of people who hate you coz of your shirt. Right in front of people screaming at you. Thing is, we have some fantastic talent in his position. Who would you drop? Mane? Firmino? If we played 442, I'd play pc on the forward tip of the diamond and woodburn and sturridge. I just think those two are so full of skill. And I think they would be well dangerous with mane and salah on the wings.

12 Sep 2017 17:02:35
So now, who will klopp put in to take Mane's place in the games he will be out?

It is either going to be Sturridge or AOC. I see him going with AOC on the left of the front three.

AOC could end up being a very clever signing by Klopp.

Believable3 Unbelievable5

12 Sep 2017 17:17:17
Coutinho?

12 Sep 2017 17:24:10
Erm, Coutinho I'd hazard a guess at mate. He won't play him in CM as he'd offer zero defensive protection in all of those away matches.

12 Sep 2017 17:26:27
Coutinho into midfield which probably will see Wijnaldum miss out.

12 Sep 2017 17:38:36
I agree with kev. That is where he played last season and was devastating. I know he was class in the front of that diamond midfield against West ham and boro but we don't play that formation often. Only when we are being very cautious. I also have doubts about his physical ability in a midfield three. Not saying he is soft but no where near Can, Hendo or wijnaldum. Or even lallana. Coutinio has played well in a midfield three but he has also played poorly there.

Coutinio and salah is going to be devastating.

12 Sep 2017 17:44:29
Karius
Gomez Matip Lovren Robertson
Henderson Can
Coutinho
Salah Firmino AOC

Why exactly would that not work?

12 Sep 2017 18:21:15
Mignolet
AOC Matip Lovren Moreno
Wijnaldum Henderson Can
Salah Solanke/ Sturridge Firmino.

12 Sep 2017 18:25:15
Cou is no slouch physically and defensively, OIrish. He is very physical, tracks back, can tackle and gets stuck in. He would not be in the Brazilian starting 11 if he wasn't as Tite like Klopp, does not have time for slouches and passengers. He will be fine in that role.

Btw, I love that line up, Max.

12 Sep 2017 18:33:53
AOC at RB? It would be even worse compared to Wenger playing him at LWB. Do you want our CB's to look even worse than they already are?

Mignolet (no disrespect) needs to be banished from the starting eleven. He really has had enough chances. Klopp has dropped him for a reason on many occasions and it does not seem to have worked and for Klopp's sake, he needs to swallow that bitter pill now.

12 Sep 2017 19:38:18
AOC at RB? Take the night off, mate. You seem a bit light-headed.

12 Sep 2017 19:59:10
Karius
TAA gomes lovren Robertson
Can Hendo wijnaldum
Mane firminio coutinio

Salah is I'll, AOC as impact sub.

I doubt they will line up with gomes but I think they should. I'd bet that that will be line up except matip will probably start instead.

12 Sep 2017 20:12:43
Lineup is not based on CL Superred.

Mane will not be available for the next 3 Local matches.

My lineup for CL tomorrow though would be

Karius
Gomez Matip Lovren Robertson
Can Hendo Coutinho
Salah Firminho Mane.

12 Sep 2017 20:53:59
Are you being serious Bingo Red?
You'd play Coutinho in central midfield when we have conceded 9 goals in 3 away matches already this season, 8 in the last 2 domestic matches alone?

Come on now, Coutinho can play in CM in home games for sure but with our defence as awful as it is and having zero protection, you can't be serious in saying he would do a better job than say Emre Can/ Henderson/ Grujic if we're being bombarded away from home.
I know our midfield isn't great at defending but that's just plain crazy IMO.

If Coutinho is that good defensively as you suggest, why not play him instead of Matip/ Klavan/ Lovren lol?! Surely it makes more sense to play a player like Coutinho in his strongest position where he can drive at defences and keep them on their back foot. If he plays CM, he'll spend most of his time away from home in defensive positions, how can that possibly make sense?
Play him CM at Anfield, not at Leicester x 2.

12 Sep 2017 21:05:48
Salah is I'll. I reckon pc will play in salah's position. It's unpopular but it's where our WORLD CLASS manager plays him. I'm sure he knows better than us.

Can Hendo and wijnaldum can offer plenty of creativity and when cout's picks the ball up in the left side of their box, it's usually goodnight Vienna. He scores with class as well.

12 Sep 2017 21:28:42
I prefer 4 4 2. That way sturridge gets a game. I feel for him. Plagued with injuries but now he is fit he is still not getting a start.

Karius

TAA GOMES lovren Robertson

Can Hendo wijnaldum

Mane firminio coutinio

I would like

Karius

TAA gomes lovren Robertson

Salah Can Hendo mane

Sturridge firminio.

12 Sep 2017 21:41:51
OIrish, I get where you are coming from however, if we must win a game in the CL, I would put Cou there. Why? The CL games are more open and that suits us well esp. If Cou has space and time to pick a pass from CM. Defensively in CM, Klopp wants his three in midfield to defend and press as a group which is why he does not use a DM. If we can do that effectively (with Cou in the team) then that will solve the defensive issue you are concerned about. Your post is valid and so are your concerns BUT I have no idea why you are making the comparison btw Cou and the defenders. That part is baffling.

13 Sep 2017 14:30:12
Bingo Red - The original question from the original poster is who would replace Mane wasn't it? When he is suspended. My answer is Coutinho on LW, not CM for the reasons I have clearly stated above Bingo. I am not speaking about the CL match. He can start anywhere for that home match. I'm talking about the 3 away domestic matches Mane is banned for.

Am guessing anfileld school😂.

Also you can park at goodison if you really want to😩.

Some lad bis flying out to seville to watch the game, booked hotel and everything. Post is up the top.

Someone should tell him it's in Merseyside.

12 Sep 2017 16:37:18
Eds, am I missing something with the appeal? I know it's done and dusted now but I'm wondering on the decision behind the appeal, apparently we wasn't appealing the red card itself but appealing the amount of games stating it was excessive? Surely if we're not appealing the straight red, which automatically carries a three game ban, how can we appeal the length of the ban with that being the standard penalty? Just seems a complete waste of time?

Believable2 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - seemed it to me too.}

12 Sep 2017 17:12:25
Basically trying to look as though they are doing something knowing full well nothing would change.

12 Sep 2017 18:07:15
I agree Ron, it does make them look like they're doing something but surely wasn't worth the risk of them adding another one or two games to the ban which could have happened.

12 Sep 2017 18:26:50
It was just a smoke screen to look like we were actually doing something sensible whereas in the real scheme of things, it was a nothing-burger. Had us all tuning in, tho.

12 Sep 2017 18:49:24
Has an extra game ever been added on after an appeal? I recal many appeals, but don't ever remember the ban being lengthened.

{Ed001's Note - yes, which is why there are so few appeals.}

12 Sep 2017 16:30:34
I don't think the city result was a once off, don't be shocked if we lose tomorrow night as Well. The red card was just one of the problems. Klopp made multiple errors against City and which previously he would immediately put up his hands and say it was his fault. This time he took no fault which is scary that he can't see what was obviously wrong.

Believable7 Unbelievable11

12 Sep 2017 17:13:58
Until Mane was sent off, even with City being 1-0 up it did not look like City were going anywhere in the match.

Let's just put it this way, if the tables were turned and one of Jesus or Aguero were sent of then Guardiola would have been sitting in the same situation trying to keep LFC from making mince out of City.

Klopp made a mistake by moving can from midfield and switching to a back three, that is for sure. There could have been damage limitation but a win for us 10 vs 11 away to Citywas going to be unlikely. 11 vs 11 and we could very well have throttled City. There defence was an absolute shambles first half.

{Ed025's Note - you do make some extreme comments max, like throttling city and their defence being an absolute shambles....we were doing quite well against a mediocre city defence sound a lot better mate if you dont mind me saying..

12 Sep 2017 17:40:37
Well said ed025.

13 Sep 2017 00:10:14
In all fairness to Klopp, before he changed to a back 3 I was screaming at my screen he should do so. How many through balls went directly through the center of Matip and Klavan So sticking extra in that gap is what was needed.

Although, I was hoping he would bring on Lovren (weirdly) and not just stick Can there. He is not a CB just like he isn’t really a DM. Would have taken Gini off (although I didn’t even realize he was on, until he came off) for Lovren and left Can in the midfield.

12 Sep 2017 16:25:43
It is some kind of minor miracle that we've had two almost identical incidents occur immediately following Mane's card. Just trying to understand the angle that lfc take with the appeal - am I right in thinking that the grounds for an appeal would be based in the punishment being too severe and then these two incidents plus maybe other historical ones maybe used as evidence to support the red being downgraded to a yellow? Or is the only possibility to do with reducing a ban?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 Sep 2017 18:32:23
The appeal was a nothing-burger as they knew it would amount to nothing after appealing the length of the ban which is standard for all straight red card incidents. Again, a nothing-burger.

12 Sep 2017 16:03:49
Well now I know for sure that I made the correct decision about 30 years ago when my brother tried to persuade me to support Man United. Luke Skywalker himself has come out as an LFC fan apparently.

I see a few people have gone for a 5-1 victory against Sevilla. It will be a tight game, champions league teams are not push-overs, stick to playing Fifa boys! 12 Sep 2017 17:42:54
We will see footy Dan. That was a bit over the top (5 1) but that's my trademark! I think we will score a few tomorrow. I know seville are not a walk over but neither are arsenal.

12 Sep 2017 18:35:08
5-1? Really? What planet do such people live on? Seville have been a constant in Europe since 2006, winning the EL 5 times and playing the CL much more than we have in that span. They are a perennial top 4 team in Spain with very good players. I suggest people saddle up cos it will be a tough game and they have the players like Nolito, Beyedder and Banega who can hurt us.

12 Sep 2017 20:02:47
We will see bingo. Like I said, arsenal are a good little team and we slaughtered em.

12 Sep 2017 21:44:41
But a Seville, they are definitely not, Superred. We will see.

Im not surprised. Tho im surprised they didn't stick another game on for being di#ks.

12 Sep 2017 18:36:37
They really didn't appeal as they appealed the length of the ban (which is useless as it is standard procedure for straight red cards) and not the card itself, which would have been unsuccessful and another game would have been tacked on to the 3. In the end, it was a waste of time.

12 Sep 2017 15:37:16
Mane's ban upheld he misses 3 games!

12 Sep 2017 15:52:24
Where you hearing this from Jay please?

12 Sep 2017 16:06:31
Don't see the point in appealing for bans to be reduced, I have never seen one rescinded. Does anyone know of a successful appeal in the last 10- 20 years?

This is one I thought had a good chance considering 2 other similar incidents happened this weekend of which neither were given red cards.

Oh Well, we'll just have to stick Mane in the champions league games for a bit and try out one of our many midfielders on the left.

12 Sep 2017 16:03:14
I hope this now sets a precedent then.

If raising your boot above head height is a 3 game ban, going forward the incidents involving Ritchie and Reid within the next 48 hours, need to incur the same punishment.

Personally i think this is another step towards football becoming a non contact sport, and/ or the banning of some of the most beautiful sights in the game such as a bicycle/ overhead kick.

If that is the route the FA are going down though then it needs to be consistent. Any boot above head height is a straight red, regardless of injury caused or who is near them. Black and white rules, or no rules. Sick of interpretation BS.

{Ed002's Note - As Liverpool fans it is clear that in general you don't really get this, or multiple other aspects of the game. All we will see in the coming weeks is the ridiculous whining and pointing trying to compare any other little issues to this. It is always someone elses fault and you can't suck it up and move on.

It is also particularly stupid and very embarrassing indeed that you now want to say things like "any boot ..." - it shows a complete and total lack of understanding of the game.}

12 Sep 2017 16:15:08
Disappointing to lose him for 3 games but we probably didn't have a chance, it being such a high profile case. Hopefully the lads step up instead. A few cracking performances by a certain Brazilian attempting to win back over the fans wouldn't go awry.

{Ed002's Note - It is not a "high profile case". Don't be stupid.}

12 Sep 2017 16:19:42
Paul Joyce and a few others breaking it! It was expected I suppose.

12 Sep 2017 16:36:50
Thanks Jay.

12 Sep 2017 16:42:20
Of course it was high profile - worldwide viewing audience of a hundred million people perhaps, and at half time and full time all the talk wasn't about the game it was about the red card. Not sure what else constitutes high profile. If it was in an U23 game - not high profile - it wouldn't be being mentioned at all.

However, totally agree with Ed2 - it was a red card and dangerous so 3 match ban. Also agree everyone needs to suck it up and move on and stop making it look like we have been victimized because we haven't.

12 Sep 2017 17:04:34
Seems like fans, refs, player and media all have a split view of this red card. My take is that it's orange and some refs will give red card, and some don't. when it's given, there is no point in appealing since FA will always protect the ref if there isn't a huge mistake. This red card was debatable, but not a huge mistake.

A wider discussion is about three games ban for a red card is to harsh, in the same way that yellow is often too soft, and red is too hard. Could it be something in between. Orange card with 10 minutes on the sideline could bee an idea.

{Ed002's Note - Anything to make it easier for Liverpool of course.}

12 Sep 2017 17:40:12
MKS - I like most of your posts but you seriously need to look online at the face of the goalkeeper after that flying kick. He has multiple stitches in his face for goodness sake. There are photos on the internet of this and also of the moment of impact with Mane's boot.

Look, I have no doubt that he wasn't knocked out cold as he was back training today which wouldn't be allowed if unconscious less than 72 hours earlier, the club doctor simply wouldn't allow it. So yes he probably played it up, but the fact remains that it was dangerous play and he caught the keeper in the head while 2 feet were off the deck, meaning his body was out of control. It's unfortunate/ reckless/ unlucky/ dangerous. We need to forget and move on now.

12 Sep 2017 18:18:23
Comparisons are sometimes necessary to bring context to a discussion. It is a lot more constructive than constantly bringing out the same old boring lines about deluded fans etc.
The sending off of Mane has split opinion amongst the supporters of most teams to a greater extent than most decisions. Yet listening to some, anyone on here who thinks it was not a sending off is wrong to the point of delusion.
Personally, I don't think he should have gone. Accidents happen and I don't think a player should be so heavily penalised for an accident.
I also see little wrong with expecting consistency in decisions. Mane has every right to feel unlucky given the outcome of the other 2 decision since, albeit I think the refs in these instances made the right decisions.

{Ed001's Note - the only people who are split are those who do not know the laws of the game. The laws of the game are clear that it is a red card. That should be the end of the matter, unless the laws change.}

12 Sep 2017 18:39:20
That is true, Ed but the "purists' on here will continue to tell us how footie has gone "soft" or other crap excuses to deflect from the bleeding obvious instead of referring to the laws of the game. Pathetic reasoning, really.

12 Sep 2017 20:38:01
I don't think it's a case of knowing the laws but rather the interpreting of them.
We have seen 3 different interpretations of similar incidents over the weekend from those who are employed to know the laws. Why are we having such a wide interpretation of what according to the law is a clear red card?
Would you like to see a change in the law? Maybe to take intent into consideration?

12 Sep 2017 21:02:28
Sirshanks, you just called yourself delusional mate.
"Anyone on here who thinks it was not a sending off is wrong to the point of delusion.
Personally, I don't think he should have gone".
Am I missing something here?

{Ed025's Note - only an understanding of the rules kev..

12 Sep 2017 21:48:30
Read the full sentence again. then you'll see that you have indeed missed something!

12 Sep 2017 17:17:56
ed002 please don't assume all LFC fans are of that mindset. For many it was as clear as day, the correct decision and a pointless appeal.
I don't see the point in looking at other games and other incidents. I focus on LFC and forget about others so I don't get this "persecuted" complex and realise our club is not treated any differently, indeed sometimes we are treated leniently 🤝.

{Ed002's Note - I know there are some exceptions Ron.}

12 Sep 2017 17:46:43
You are completely right ed2, I should have used my words more carefully- my meaning was that it was topical at the moment. Namely sky making a song and dance about it. For the fa to rescind or lessen the ban would set a bad precedence. I didn't see the point in us even bothering to appeal. The letter of the law states it was red. Can't argue with that, was simply stating the obvious that he'll be missed and my hopes are that the lads will get on with it.

{Ed002's Note - Right. There are no precedences, there is nothing special about Liverpoool, no one cares about the "messages" the club sends out.}

13 Sep 2017 00:17:03
The only ban from a red card I can think of where the ban was removed was when Gibbs got sent off instead of the Ox for handball 3 years ago.
Literally the only time it will ever happen if it’s something as silly as mistaken identity 😂.

13 Sep 2017 14:24:24
No, I believe he should have been red carded, I have read your comment again and it hasn't changed.
You state people are delusional if they think he shouldn't have gone - then say you personally think he should not have gone?!
It was a clear red card by the letter of the law - fact!

13 Sep 2017 14:26:41
I'm joking, before you get me twisted Sirshanks. But you are crazy if you think he should only get yellow for that flying kick. Doesn't matter if there was intent or not mate. Those days are gone.

12 Sep 2017 13:33:05
Question for Ed001, read that we are going to appeal to reduce the ban on mane. My question is, seeing that there were similar challenges made in two other games, where in one a yellow card was shown and in the other one no card was given, would that help us in getting the ban reduced?
Would the club point to the other two incidences to support their claims of a reduced ban?
Thank You.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - no idea whether it will help or not but they will certainly be looking towards them yes.}

12 Sep 2017 14:15:17
Is there a danger the ban might actually increase if we lose the appeal?

{Ed001's Note - yes if the FA deem it a frivolous appeal.}

12 Sep 2017 14:24:31
Hi Ed001,i read the appeal goes through today, do you know roughly what time we can expect a decision, have a bad feeling may get extra game, I personally feel it was 50/ 50 but think it is a ridiculous decision to appeal it, should have just moved on.

{Ed001's Note - no sorry no idea.}

12 Sep 2017 14:41:49
Isn't the fourth game utd?

I think it is worth pursuing though. There was zero malice, mane went for the ball and looked genuinely distraught at ederson's injury. I know I'm contradicting myself but I think it was a red card but because of the circumstances a three match ban seems harsh.

Do the club use solicitors to launch the appeal? Or is it handled by the management? If it is solicitors, then they must see an angle.

It does worry me though that we could be without our top scorer against our biggest rival, who are looking good but definitely beatable. But I think the appeal has legs.

12 Sep 2017 14:46:45
no its Newcastle superred man u is after that.

12 Sep 2017 15:49:37
So he could miss Man Utd game if the appeal went tits up? Seems risky to me.

12 Sep 2017 20:04:33
Oh cheers Childwall red. For ou know when utd game is dude?

12 Sep 2017 20:23:40
Why didn't klopp spend more time and effort appealing to the board to get central defenders in rather trying to over turn a certain ban. it was dangerous.

12 Sep 2017 12:53:53
Can't wait for the Sevilla game tomorrow now. Wish I could be at Anfield for it! The Champions League music is welcome back, the atmosphere is going to be just amazing.
I'm going for a 3-1 win for us with Bobby, Mane and Salah all scoring.
Also it'll be nice to have Coutinho back, he is a quality player and I hope he gets his head down and works hard for the team this season.

12 Sep 2017 13:02:27
I think it will be over in the first twenty minutes. 3/ 4 0 with coutinio scoring.

12 Sep 2017 13:37:57
You'd like to think they all have a point to prove and will go out there with a bit of fire in their bellies!

12 Sep 2017 14:45:24
Its a 3-1 to Lfc, just saw it in my crystal ball.

12 Sep 2017 14:51:18
I think so MK. It is at anfield. The boys will start in top gear and blow the opposition away in the first twenty minutes. People are thumbs downing it, but that is what we do at home. There are 2, 3 red shirts surrounding the opposition when they get the ball, they don't have a second to think and as soon as we get the ball it is spread out wide and 5,6,7 red shirts swarm forward. We look unplayable when we play like that, I don't know what went wrong at city but like mk says, the boys have something to prove tomorrow.

If you like a bet I suggest liverpool score in the first ten minutes and another before half time. Seville will push hard in the second half but coutinio and henderson will exploit the space that seville leave and mane and salah will get a couple in second half. Maybe a pc free kick too.

Yeah, I'm going to say 5 1.

12 Sep 2017 15:02:32
Even if we're 3 nil up after 20 to 30 minutes, with our defence it's not over till the 90th minute - I just don't trust them anymore. Midfield are a bunch of headless chickens when it comes to defending too a lot of the time. Caught out of position and not tracking back to help the CBs. Not good enough!

12 Sep 2017 15:40:26
5-1 😂 Am sure we are playing Seville. The team that beat us in a cup final few years back. I think we will get hard game tomorrow. I think we will win but not 5-1.

12 Sep 2017 16:07:59
3-2 to us. Firmino, mane and can to score.

12 Sep 2017 11:34:45
The goalkeeper debate had been raging long before Saturday’s game but any game where five goals are conceded will always bring questions. On Saturday Migs faced 10 shots on target and conceded half of them. Aguero’s goal and Jesus’ second where both the result of the strikers getting through on goal, in these situations the only way a goal will be denied is if the attacker makes a mistake, neither did and Migs is entirely blameless. Sane’s second goal was a looping shot from outside of the box close to the top corner of the goal, again no blame can be afforded to the keeper.

Jesus’ first goal was a free header from the edge of the six yard box. The ball played in was a whipped right foot inswinging cross from the left, never was the flight of the cross within six yards of the goal. Whilst it is theoretically possible that Migs could have reached the ball if he had instantly moved to Jesus’ position that ignores the requirement to judge the flight of the ball before doing so. There is no realistic way that Migs could have made that judgement then moved the six yards to challenge before it had reached Jesus. If had tried we would currently be criticising Migs for making a bad decision to come off his line. Should Migs have saved the shot? It was a free bullet header from six yards, whilst it wasn’t completely out of his reach it was far enough away and headed with enough power that it is unrealistic to expect Migs to save it.

Sane’s first goal was from an angle, through on goal and scored at the near post, it was an excellent finish. There is an argument that Migs could have covered the near post better and if he had it is likely he would have saved it. The mitigation for Migs is that City’s interplay was so quick and the finish so assured that it gave Migs no time to react. Whilst this goal could have been saved my assessment is that the attacking play gets the credit rather than Migs the criticism. There was not one goal conceded on Saturday which we should have expected Migs to save, criticism of him, in this case, is unjustified.

Having said all that we all know that Migs is at a standard below the top tier of goalkeepers. I agree with Ed1’s assessment that he doesn’t inspire confidence in his backline, should he be dropped due to his general deficiencies rather than the City game? What I don’t agree with Ed1 about is that Karius should be brought in as a better option. We can make all the excuses about media pressure we want but last season Karius was dropped after a run of 10 games because he was making costly mistakes, even if the criticism was unfair the fact that the pressure was too much is a bad sign, there isn’t a position that faces more pressure than the goalkeeper, if Karius can’t handle it is unlikely he will become a top class keeper. Even in his game this season all the talk afterwards was about his mistakes on the ball, Migs may not inspire confidence in his defenders, but Karius doesn’t either. When we brought Karius in I questioned Ed2 about how we got a prospect so cheaply, Ed2 said there was no particular reason. In seems we payed market value and Karius was a very cheap keeper. I have no confidence that he is a better option than Migs.

That leaves Ward who many are calling to be given a chance. I will admit that I haven’t really watched him and I can make no evidence based assessment of his abilities. What I can say is that I believe the ‘how can we know how good he is if he doesn’t play’ argument is a logical fallacy. We may not know how good he is but the person who picks the teams does. The fact that Ward is third choice behind both Migs and Karius does not bode well, I believe that if he was a better keeper Klopp would give him games, the only logical conclusion is that he isn’t playing because he’s not as good as the others.

So where do we go from here? Migs is the best of a bad bunch and, as long as he’s not making mistakes and costing up points, he keeps the shirt. I do not believe our next first choice keeper is at the club. Our transfer priority, maybe just after a new CB, should be a goalkeeper. Frankly we need to identify the best goalkeeper in the world, not currently at a tier one club, and pay whatever’s needed to bring them in, if not in January then definitely next summer.

Believable2 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - hang on, you are making up crap. I have never once said Karius is a better option, I have simply said he might be but we don't know. Until he gets a proper run, we simply do not know. Ward was much better, albeit in the Championship, than Migs has been at any point in his career, except for the couple of weeks at the end of the season when he played out of his skin.

The only thing we know is that Migs is a disaster waiting to happen. We have years of evidence to know that he is not the answer. So why stick with him? He has to go or we can forget ever winning the league. Anyone who thinks he is the best we have is guessing, especially someone who admits they haven't even seen one of the other options play and is judging another on his cost! Idiocy at its finest to judge a player on his price tag only. We got him cheap because of who he plays for, it was that simple.

While we are about it, how can you absolve a keeper completely of blame while admitting he could have done better? What about how we are so damn crap at set pieces and it is his job to organise the defence? Why is he only judged on whether or not he makes saves? His game should be more than that. I really do not want to just jump on Migs, but you can't just absolve him for failure because you are ignorant about the alternatives and too cowardly to take a chance that they might be better!}

12 Sep 2017 12:17:24
Putney, you are talking absolute BS. Your post shows that you want to have it all 30 different ways. You cannot on one hand Migs had no chance on all the goals (which is false as he is at fault for their 2nd, 4th and potentially 5th goals), absorbing him of all blame while at the same time say, he is crap. Both of those things CANNOT be true at the same time.

And don't try to rewrite history here regarding Karius. Karius made two mistakes that led to goals in 10 games. TWO so your idea that he made several mistakes is patently false and YES, he was hounded out of the team due to our own supporters getting on his back and taking sides with a pathetic manc named Neville. That is what happened. And in those 10 games, we only conceded 7 goals (4 in one game, mind you) . Not saying Karius is great or anything BUT like Ed, we don't know if he or Ward is the right option as neither has had a firm run in the team. If you think ten games is enough to judge any player then thank heavens you don't coach LFC cos there will be no players left after binning them after ten games. Pep knew Hart was crap and binned him, ASAP. He brought in Bravo, gave him a full season, he was crap and he has Ederson now. Do you see anyone giving Pep grief over what he did? No and you won't cos that is how coaching is done. You act on what you know for sure and gather information on what you don't know.

Let us focus on what we know. Migs is crap, end of story. Karius is better than Migs in terms of his ability to play the sweeper keeper, quicker off his line and has better distribution (three bad kicks vs Arsenal prove nothing) . He just needs more experience in the PL. Same with Ward, who is also potentially better than Migs as well. So now that we know that Migs is crap, why should we keep playing him whereas we have two young and talented GK's we can coach up and work on and give a full run of games to so we can see if either one is the solution or if we should go get another one?

If you are okay with the devil you know (Migs) instead of the angel you don't know (Karius or Ward), that is your problem. We all don't have to go down such a cowardly path and Klopp is already letting Migs know that his place is under peril and in the end, Karius will be back in goal and you and I will have to get over it.

For both goals their strikers went through, Mignolet bombed off his line and threw himself to the floor. Aguero easily side stepped him and Jesus just lifted it over him because he went down so early. I agree he Isn't expected to save these, but a good keeper would probably stop one. Ederson stopped Salah in a one on one and then Mane. Mignolet just made it easy for them.

For City's second, Mignolet had sent the whole team into a panic because 4 minutes earlier he had again flown off his line for a cross, missed it completely and gifted Jesus an open goal. Fortunately, that was struck off correctly for offside. The fact remains though that he filled City with confidence and Liverpool with fear. So a few minutes later they put a ball into the exact same area, knowing Jesus was full of confidence, knowing Mignolet was too scared to come out again, and knowing our defence was panicking due to having a useless keeper behind them. The header was good and he had no chance with it in my opinion, but he created that 10 minute panic by being a tool in the first place.

City's 4th was an absolutely shocking goal to concede. It was at his front post and i don't care how well struck it is, decent keepers don't concede at their front post; at least not as regularly as Mignolet does. That is 2 this season already.

City's 5th was incredibly well struck and another you don't say he has to save. But again, top keepers pull off unexpected saves. De Gea, Lloris, Cech, Courtois etc would've at least got fingers on it, if not stopped it. Mignolet didn't even get near it though and he never does.

I'm not blaming Mignolet for the defeat. The whole team was useless from the red card onwards. However, Mignolet yet again has made a handful of saves he should be making, caused panic in the defence, made it far to easy for the opposition, and not helped us out at all.

He's bang average mate. This is a guy who has previously been dropped for Brad Jones and Bogdan. He will never be good enough and he needs to be removed from the side ASAP. He brings nothing to us that any keeper in the top 2 tiers of English football wouldn't bring.

I have seen Ward play, and regardless of what Klopp thinks, he is better than Mignolet. Klopp isn't an all seeing all knowing god. He gets things wrong and sticking with Mignolet is a massive error in judgement.

12 Sep 2017 12:53:24
Excellent description of the goals, MK. In fact on the first one, Migs could have not flown off his line BUT goaded Aguero to actually shoot by staying on his line, delay him, narrow the angle as he was already going wide, and then go after him. However, I'm splitting hairs here. All in all, I agree that a red card should not prevent us from performing the basics of defending, which we did not do for at least the first 3 goals and that is the concern. As for Migs, he is crap. FACT. Knowing that fact, Klopp is prolly acting on it by putting Karius into the CL and hopefully, he can make the shirt his own.

12 Sep 2017 12:55:06
I knew this was going to be unpopular. Ed1 the crux of our disagreement is whether we should try Karius because we already know Migs is bad. My view is we don't do it because we have to do as best as we can now if we want to win the league this year. Migs isn't great but if he's better than Karius then he should play.

Bingo, I reject your premise that Migs was at fault (note that is not the same as saying he couldn't do any better) for any of the goals on Saturday, I think it's nonsense. I also believe your assessment of Karius and Ward is based on a desire for them to be better than rather than any evidence that this is the case.

MK, I think your explanation for the second goal being Migs' fault is too convoluted to be taken seriously and like Bingo, I think you're bias is showing if you think a different keeper would have done better for the first, third and fifth. What I don't disagree with is that a better Keeper is needed, I just don't expect Karius or Ward to be that keeper.

{Ed001's Note - if the staff thought he was better than Karius, then Karius would not have been bought.}

12 Sep 2017 13:07:52
I think people are calling for ward simply because he is a different option from mignolet or karius and not on merit. I think the lad deserves a chance but I wouldn't want us to hang all our hopes on the Wales no.2.

Karius is meant to be our no1 and I really hope we give up this constant keeper rotation and give him the rest of the season. If he is no good then sell both migs and karius and try something new. Mk is right (again) you cznt judge on a handful of games.

12 Sep 2017 13:09:35
You both keep says Migs is crap yet your manager keeps picking him time and time again and then you are against those who points finger at the manager. You can't have it both ways! Either you concede Klopp is wrong picking Migs or Migs is actually a good keeper and you are wrong!

{Ed001's Note - I have no problem picking fault with Klopp when he is wrong. I have said from the start that he was wrong to bring back Migs, it was a terrible decision.}

12 Sep 2017 13:11:31
Ed1, To answer a few of your specific points, I apologize for my imprecise language I happily admit that you said you'd bring in Karius not that you think he's better. I'm not saying I think Migs is better than Ward, I'm saying Klopp thinks that and I'm bowing to his assessment in this matter. The anecdote about Karius' price was not what I base my opinion of him on, I base that off of watching him play. However, I disagree with you that the price is not important, £5m is very cheap for a first choice keeper with supposed potential from any bundesliga club, especially if the buyer is from the premier league. Finally my assessment of the goals, my argument wasn't (nor ever has been) that Migs is good enough for us. My argument is that criticism of him for conceding those goals is unwarranted. Criticism of his all round play is a different matter.

{Ed001's Note - ok, I see what you are saying, but Klopp would not have held Ward back if he thought Migs was the better option, he would not have bought Karius in the first place if he believed Migs was the better option. So why would you bow to his judgement if he was wrong to buy Karius and hold back Ward in that case? He has made a mess of this particular situation from the start and it is not going to get better by sticking by a keeper who is letting us down repeatedly, even if the alternative turn out to be no better. Give them a chance to prove one way or the other if they are better.

As for Karius' price, it is truly irrelevant. The price was what it was because he wanted the move and they are a small club who believe that bringing in cheap selling on at a profit if the move is also good for the player allows them to recruit a better calibre of player than they otherwise could. Clearly it does, as they have got to where they are by doing so.}

12 Sep 2017 13:37:49
Ed, I will happily agree that the situation is a mess. The biggest shame is that we haven't had a good enough keeper since Reina started angling for a move, five years is too long not to sort this problem.

{Ed001's Note - the recruitment team have not covered themselves in glory.}

12 Sep 2017 13:58:03
Harry do you even read my thoughts on Klopp? 😂 it was only yesterday i took pelters for saying he bottled it with his substitutions.

I'm not against criticising Klopp anymore. I was reluctant to do so last season because it was his first full season. No excuses now though. He is fully settled, this is his team, and he is still failing to deliver right now. That may change as the season goes on, but he needs to prove to us all why we should be believers, or their will start to be more and more doubters.

For me, Klopp wins a trophy this year or he needs to go. Even if it is the Carabao cup it will show some progress, but you can't be LFC manager for 3 seasons and win nothing. That got Rafa (2006-2009) and Rodgers (2012-2015) the sack. Start winning things or move on to make space for someone who will. If Klopp goes 2015-2018 without winning anything, why is he any different to those guys? Rafa had a Champions league final to Klopps two finals, and Rodgers nearly won the league. Nearly isn't good enough for us with them though. So it shouldn't be different with Klopp because he is passionate and has a likeable clown act, to quote the great Ed002. Hell Kenny actually won our last trophy, and he got canned anyway!

Klopp's persona is wearing thin on me and as much as i believe he will win us something this year, he has to go out and turn a prediction into reality before he can ask for more time. Fun fact; every player in the first team squad except Milner, Ings, Markovic and Bogdan has either been offered a new contract during Klopps reign, or been signed by Klopp. He clearly likes Milner and Ings and Markovic and Bogdan are barely worth considering. His squad. His responsibility.

12 Sep 2017 14:02:18
Now this is the Adam I actually like MK 😎 Or rather I miss on the site. Proper unbiased poster once he was. 😄. I though you too got turned on by bingo 😄.

12 Sep 2017 14:05:34
The fact that 4 years after signing migs we are still discussing his place in the team, is proof that he shouldn't be there.

Karius got 10 game and made a few mistakes and everyone included carra slaughtered the boy to the point klopp had to drop him to protect him.

Ward hasn't been given any games

Mignolet has had over 100. 100 game a and is still dog poo

It doesn't. matter wether karius is better but quite simply we owe him the opportunity to prove it either way. He was a started in the bud3sliga and only moved to us because klopp would of made promises. We are stunting his development. Get him in goal, get migs gone and if all still bad in Jan then get rid and but someone else.

12 Sep 2017 18:42:23
Sack Klopp if he doesn't win something this season? Really? What is the point in that? He has the team playing some exceptional football and got us back into the champion league. Unless there is someone who could do better than that then why bother?
What gives us the right to think we should be winning things? Do we have the best team? Squad? Most resources? No we don't? Is Klopp underachieving with this squad? No.
Spurs have a great manager who has been there longer than Klopp, yet has won nothing. are Spurs fans asking for him to be sacked?
Klopp is making mistakes, is not perfect but he is making progress and exciting us in the process. Your points may be valid at the end of season but they are a bit premature and I feel uneccesary at this point. How about we show him some support until he does stop progressing.

12 Sep 2017 18:47:36
Karius looked like a top keeper he's last season in bundesliga. He had bad luck with his injury and a bad start, but i find it very weird that he still hasn't taken the spot from Migs.

12 Sep 2017 18:49:05
Harry, what does "your manager" actually mean? Is he not your manager as well? We know you don't like Klopp BUT that "your manager" crap was out of order.

As for the GK issue, Klopp has indeed made a mess of the situation by hooking Karius cos he made TWO mistakes (not several as many say on here inaccurately) . He was signed to replace Migs who had and has been crap for 4 years here.

Klopp is prolly trying to fix the issue by using Karius in the CL as a way to phase out Migs. He does not trust Migs which is why Karius and Ward are still here, as Ed01 alluded to. That is good enough for me cos at least we know that he does not rate Migs and never really did. To me, now is the time to get rid of this crap GK and move on to seeing if Karius or Ward are the ons to go with moving forward. At least, we don't have to deal with him anymore.

12 Sep 2017 19:20:43
Putney, this has nothing to do with desire. It has a lot more to do with evidence and a desire to take a look at either of these GK's as they cannot be any worse than Migs, surely.

You ask me if I have evidence to know about Karius' qualities. I refer you the the League Cup semi final tie last season vs the Saints. In that game, we were awful across the board and Nathan Redmond (who scored the winning goal at 1-0) could have had a hatrick in that game. Do you know why he did not and we were still in the tie? Loris Karius.

Karius made 4 very good saves in that game including a point blank shot from Redmond in the 6 yard box. In the return game at Anfield, he kept us in the game while we chased it by coming out to smother a shot point blank by Tadic. He got no credit for his perf. cos well, we lost so who cares right? I cared cos I was actually checking him out to see how he would do.

His talent also showed in preseason vs LC where he came out to deny Vardy 2/ 3 times as the sweeper keeper. This is how I know he can be a good GK for us if he can get a good run of games and figure it out. Watch these games on Youtube and see for yourself.

Again I am not saying either Karius or Ward are the answers. I am just saying that they deserve to be given a full go as they cannot b e any worse than Migs and we know for a fact that Migs is crap so why persevere with crap? That's all I'm saying.

12 Sep 2017 11:21:35
Hi guys
Just huge shout out to Ed01, I read your match review after the Man City game and thought you were being harsh on Matip . I unfortunately had to watch most the game again ( whilst waiting for an appointment in the waiting room ) this time without my red tinted glasses on and I was absolutely appalled by the complete lack of effort from Matip .

There should be no excuse for simply coasting through a game even though the result was a foregone conclusion . I can't believe that I didn't notice this whilst watching the live game . I now understand why you sometimes delay your review till you get your emotions in check and rewatch the game objectively. I wish I had your restraint mate as I am blinded by emotion when it comes to LFC . Thanks to both yourself and 02 for the objective commentary on our beloved club . YnWA.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - cheers mate, though I wish it was a happier reason for your post!}

12 Sep 2017 11:39:11
Nice post piaray. It can be very hard to be objective about the club you love.

12 Sep 2017 12:05:22
Did Klopp instruct the players to lower there intensity? Personally I accepted defeat as soon as second goal goes in. Realistically with 10 men we were never going to win that game from 0-2 down. Im just wondering if those were the instructions, don't waste energy.

12 Sep 2017 12:20:38
OP, I was disappointed with his lack of effort as well. He just seemed to be disinterested in actually putting a shift in, which shows he is not a leader. This is why I say that it is easy to blame Klavan all the time and not see Matip's faults. Klavan was not great but was actually trying to do the right thing. He is 4th choice for a reason. Matip on the other hand, was awful in all areas of the game and I am glad ED01 called our attention to it cos if he did not, Matip would be absorbed of the blame that he rightly deserves.

12 Sep 2017 13:13:30
Matip gets away from criticism coz he brings the ball out from the back better than Henderson. He has a brilliant eye for pass hence we overlook his defensive contribution.
He was slow at schalke So what made you think he would become an usain bolt at Liverpool? You simply cannot play high line with out CB's. Plain and simple!

12 Sep 2017 13:59:12
How did you manage to get a dig at Hendo into a discussion about Matip's lack of effort 🙄.

12 Sep 2017 19:24:38
MK, only Harry could have done that as only he, has that unique (only to him) ability to chide our players who he does not like. Hendo and Matip don't even play the same position YET found a way to slate him. That post makes no sense at all, logically. I don't think he will ever be happy until Alonso comes out of retirement to play for LFC.

12 Sep 2017 10:39:21
Ed1 ED2 any undiscovered eds and peeps, we've heard talk of world class players, and ED2 has quite rightly stated if there was a one team of the best players would they get in? So I'm saying there's an Alien invasion and akin to space jam, there's a clause that let's us play a game of football to save our universe. And by some lucky chance your/ my ugly mug is manager. Who's playin? For me it's Michael Jordan, Bugs Bunny wait wha it's not basketball?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

12 Sep 2017 11:00:01
If we play Ozil, Ribery, Pepe and Tevez then the aliens might think they are on their own planet and leave us alone?

12 Sep 2017 11:12:21
MK don't forget Rooney and Roy Keane.

12 Sep 2017 11:43:49
I don't think "world class" can mean the twenty best players in the world. That is the cream of the cream or the elite. There are more than twenty world class players in the premiership let alone the world.

I think it should be defined as the best players in the best leagues. If coutinio is world class then so is mane. Wc could be defined as the top level of international football imo.

12 Sep 2017 11:40:40
Or john Flanagan.

12 Sep 2017 12:14:37
Mane needs to work on he's decisions and understanding of the game if he is to be labeled World class imho. Great player though with extreme qualities, not ment to be negative towards Mane in any way just my thoughts.

12 Sep 2017 12:19:18
Or jess ie lingard.

12 Sep 2017 12:21:56
Jon Flanagan has a beautiful smile 😊.

12 Sep 2017 13:19:21
Superred,

If hendo and Lallana are world class as you say, then 50% of the premier league players are.

12 Sep 2017 13:22:41
Jessie lingard doesnt.

12 Sep 2017 13:44:11
Ha ha ha! 20 WC players in the PL?

12 Sep 2017 14:37:59
World class is a subjective term, used to describe a completely subjective judgement.

And you all sit their and mock each other regarding who is and isn't? It's childish.

In my opinion, world class means in the top 10 players in the world for your position. Showered may define it as anybody in the top 100. He may have entirely different criteria. He may define it as anybody good enough to win titles. Who knows! What i do know is you can't tell each other as facts who is and isn't world class. I've grown to dislike the term because people who view it differently, rather than ask you to explain your logic, just mock you for thinking differently to them.

Henderson in my opinion is not world class. Nor is Lallana. Nor is Firmino. In fact Mane is pretty touch and go. I can completely accept that people disagree though. It's an opinion.

In my opinion, bench pressing 100kg is difficult! In Ed001's opinion, bench pressing 100kg is easy because if he can carry the weight of this site around his neck all day, 100kg is bugger all! Stop tearing into each other over the definition of a cliché phrase used to quantify a bloody opinion, for god's sake.

12 Sep 2017 16:26:11
I said they were close to world class stand. You are slagging them because you are utd.

You talk about Hendo as if he is an average premiership midfielder but he is in fact the England captain. If you think lallana is average then I can only imagine you are a cricket man rather than football. I would take ads over any attacking mid at utd. I really like Juan mata but I think AL is better.

Did you see him play last season before Xmas? He was immense. He was also probably England's best player in the euros. Not saying much admittedly. I think if both Hendo and lallana could add finishing to their game they would be truly world class. That's my opinion. I do seem to have a different definition of world class to most on here and maybe I'm wrong.

12 Sep 2017 16:41:29
I regret this lol, play nice.

12 Sep 2017 10:57:20
Ed1? ED2? Ed25? Any takers?

{Ed025's Note - i would have stretch armstrong in goal, the beatles as my back 4, curly larry and mo in a 3 man midfield, and a forward line of batman and superman playing either side of arnold schwarzenegger..

12 Sep 2017 18:17:02
Super, I'm not a bias poster. Search my history of post and you'll see I'm very fair all round. Im not blinkered by my own team, and happily admit players from other teams are good. My interpretation of a world class player is probably the top 5 players in each position. A player who all top clubs, like Madrid and Barca, would happily have in their squads. I think Mane is close to that level, I think coutinho is close too, just think he is slightly inconsistent from time to time. From us De Gea is the obvious one, best in the world. Pogba can become world class. That's probably it from our side. But you can't tell me Henderson and Lallana are even close to that level. Sorry but no chance. I also would have Mikhitarian over Lallana all day, who needs 5 touches each time he collects the ball. I can genuinly say I wouldn't take either in or squad. Mane and coutinho of course.

12 Sep 2017 10:28:14
Morning Eds if ed001 is there im still bewildered by the defensive display from Saturday everyone keeps giving me the old ten men speil but i just wondered what are your expectations of this season? I can't see past the defence personally, as long the high line gives them no protection how can we really progress as a team.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - expectations? Just to challenge in the second half of the season, instead of falling away like we did last season.}

12 Sep 2017 11:03:51
Always aim for the top! Go for the title.

12 Sep 2017 10:55:21
Thanks for the reply Ed001 and i should said what do you think as appose to expectations your right.

12 Sep 2017 10:12:43
Eds, just to change things up a bit, last season we saw the emergence of the likes of; Mbappe, Mahmoud Dahoud, Asensio, Werner, Lemar, Tielemans, Dolberg to name but a few.

Many of the aforementioned were relatively unheard of this time last year.

Who do you think in your opinion we could see the emergence of across Europe this season?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - It is very difficult to make such predictions but someone in the know suggests it is worth keeping an eye out for Josip Brekalo (who nearly ended up at Everton a while back), Atakan Akkaynak (who could well end up in the Premier League next year), Adrien Bongiovanni (could end up being on the fringes this year, still one to look out for in the future) and, particularly, Steven Bergwijn.}

12 Sep 2017 10:58:08
Some cracking names there Ed!

For me personally, and mine are more British based, i think Josh Onomah, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ademola Lookman, Carter-Vickers, Leko, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell, Rob Holding, Matty James, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez and Lewis Cook could be ones to watch. I can see them all becoming key players this season at their respectitive clubs. I personally think Calvert-Lewin is the absolute pick of the bunch but they are all great young players. Lewin could be a Dele Alli like find from Everton though.

Last season we saw the likes of Alli, Rashford, Abraham, Sessegnon, Burke, Pickford etc become important players for their teams and i expect it to be even better this season for young talent in Britain.

Solanke and Woodburn are also worth keeping on eye on from an LFC perspective but i think they are still a season away at least from being considered key players.

12 Sep 2017 11:05:07
Atakan Akkaynak From Bayer Leverkusen.

12 Sep 2017 11:09:58
Really question that Toon. I had to google each and every one of the names though, but I remembered reading the name Akkaynak in the Chelsea page. Maybe Chelsea he will end up next year then.

One of the names is a Monaco player. Last time Monaco used to be a very big spender, now they seems to be like a really good club producing lots of young expensive talents.

12 Sep 2017 12:19:10
Malang Sarr looks like a beast, can't understand why he is not beeing hyped up more.

{Ed002's Note - There is a lot of interest in him.}

12 Sep 2017 13:24:33
Sarr and Issa Diop are good young players.

12 Sep 2017 09:40:37
Hello fellow Ed's and rds,

Tmrw is our big return to the big stage where we belong as in the CL, where we are one of the most successful teams and we all know that Europe is our playground and where our best memories and fans reside. We also have a manger whose record in Europe is more than solid and with him, we know anything can happen. Just ask BVB.

Let's forget the City result cos I know I have and get behind the boys tmrw vs Seville and make Anfield hell on earth for all our CL opponents.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

12 Sep 2017 09:48:48
I agree with you! No really! 😂.

12 Sep 2017 09:39:21
Hello fellow Reds and Eds!

Hello fellow reds and Eds and hope all is well with you all.

I would like to comment on a certain talking point regarding the GK's that is doing my head in. When Migs is playing and making mistakes (see City's second and 4th goals, to see why) or being shaky, many of us and esp. those in the media say, "He is not good enough and is scaring the life out of his back line". Then, when Klopp takes him out and puts Karius in like he did vs Arsenal after Migs had flapped at two high balls vs Hoffenhiem or punished for some other reason as Ed01 said earlier, the same people say, "Why is he getting hooked? He has done nothing wrong to warrant it". Sorry but that is utter BS. Why? Simple. Both of those things cannot be true at the same time. It simply can't.

If he was was good enough and was not making mistakes, why is he getting benched then? I think Klopp is slowly but surely, phasing Migs out cos everyone can see that after a brief renaissance last season (at the last 2 months of it), he has gone back to becoming the crap GK that he always has been. But the reason he is often given the benefit of the doubt is cos people prefer the devil they know rather than the angel they don't know. I'm sorry BUT that is nonsense. In football, you want to have as many facts as you can so you can act on them. We know as a fact that Migs is crap. So why do we keep playing him, then? We don't know if Karius or Ward are the long term answer until they are given a full run of games like Pep did with Bravo at City, to know if they can do the job. Pep binned Hart cos he knew he was crap as a fact. He signed Bravo who got a full season to prove he was crap and he now has Ederson. You don't see anyone giving Pep grief for acting on the facts on the ground as they stand now, do you? This is what Klopp must do now. he must act on what he knows.

We cannot keep accepting a crap GK just cos we are afraid to give the younger BUT talented ones a chance as neither of these two could actually be any worse, IMO. Hence since, we know Migs is crap, he should be canned so we can focus on coaching and improving the young GK's we currently have who have IMO, an ability to improve as we know Migs after 4 seasons, has not improved and in fact, is getting worse. Thoughts?

Believable3 Unbelievable0

12 Sep 2017 09:51:22
So i am getting the impression you don't rate Mignolet 😉.

12 Sep 2017 10:10:04
Mingolet should have been moved on ages ago.

12 Sep 2017 10:10:59
klopp needs to borrow a pair of Rafa's balls and stop playing players who are not good enough. It's quite simple. Isn't it! Mignolet doesn't automatically picks himself, the manager picks the team and well the tactics.
I don't know on what eveidence do you feel Karius would come good? Ward at least has a one full year at Huddersfield to show.

12 Sep 2017 10:14:06
I agree mate I have said it before when Klopp bought Karius and told everyone he was first choice he should have backed him for the season instead of taking him out before he could get a run of games. The lad was voted the second best Keeper in the Bundesliga behind Neuer. Yes he has lapses of concentration but I can't help think that's down to being thrown in and thrown out without a run of games. Mignolet fair play to him he did well towards the back of last season but how many years has he been here to show what he can do but shown he is not at the level we need. I think you will all be very surprised with Karius this season if Klopp gives him the champions league games.

12 Sep 2017 10:20:27
Rafa bought and played crap players on a scale tenfold to klopp OR brendan.

12 Sep 2017 11:27:48
If our GKs were girlfriends.

Migs would be current girlfriend, good but not great. You find yourself wondering why you're together sometimes, but then when you split up you can't help but remember the good times and give it a try one more time. Deep down you know it's not going to work but she's there until something better comes along.

Karius is the hot girl in the red dress you hooked up one night when out with your mates. The sex wasn't great though and you clashed teeth when kissing for the first time, but there was definitely excitement and a spark, and you can't stop thinking about her when you're sitting watching yet another series of the Great British Bake Off with your current GF.

Ward is like at sexy young 20yr old that's just joined your office - you know you probably shouldn't go there but it's still tempting.

None are marriage material at the moment but why settle for something that's just not working.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have a fourt goalkeeper registered in the first team squad as well.}

12 Sep 2017 11:50:34
I've never been happy with mignolet. Was very surprised when we announced him back in the day.

Riena was a hard act to follow and I really think karius will come good.

12 Sep 2017 11:40:11
That may be true Ed002, but nobody dates a bird called Bogdan.

In SGreds universe, Bogdan is the chunky munter who would make you steak dinner every night, forgive you for cheating on her with her sister, and even let you down the dirt track when the river runs red. But your mates will still laugh at you for trying to make a wife out of a pig.

12 Sep 2017 12:05:18
Lol SG that was world class comparison😄😄😄 ROFL.

12 Sep 2017 12:13:42
That's the jailbait.

12 Sep 2017 12:32:30
Good posts, boys and appreciate the responses as this is a debate that I have no clue why it is so hard to figure out.

Harry, I understand that Migs does not pick himself so Klopp must know something else that we don't. I will say that Klopp never rated Migs hence, why Karius was brought in as no. 1 and rightfully so cos Migs has been and is still costing us till this very day. He has definitely sent Migs a message thru his benching vs Arsenal that his place is under threat.

As for whether Karius will come good or not, I never said that he will come good BUT we have to give him a run of games to prove us right or wrong. We all want TAA, Woodburn and Gomez to get games so they can learn from whatever mistakes they make cos we believe in them. Should that not be the same for Karius or Ward or do the same rules no longer apply?

Now, I do believe that several areas of his game like his ability to be a sweeper-keeper, his distribution, his speed off his line are MUCH better than Migs. He just needs more experience and a long run in the team to see if he can get it done. Same for Ward. Surely, they can't be worse than Migs who has had 4 seasons to prove he is crap, right?

12 Sep 2017 12:36:31
Love your analogy, SG. Priceless! Are you speaking from experience, by any chance, LOL?

12 Sep 2017 13:15:44
Best post ever SGRED! Love the metaphor!

I'll try to add to it. Migs is the ex who you keep meeting up with for bunk ups even though ghe relationship is gone.

Karius is the new bird who your family hate. They keep talking about your ex (migs) in front of her.

Ward is the young page three girl who blows you away. until she opens her mouth and keeps yapping on about eastenders!

Not as good as your post SGRED but a bit of fun.

12 Sep 2017 13:44:47
I totally agree bingo. Our defence looks more organised with karius involved too.

12 Sep 2017 09:07:58
Lessons learned from City game.
Do not give time and space to players like KDB, Silva and Coutinho. They will kill you with their inch perfect through balls which splits your defense like an arrow. Close down these world class players whenever they have the ball. Else you are sure and certain to concede.

Out CB's ain't good. So let's make sure the ball doesn't reach them! That's why you play 3 CM's ahead of them!

Believable2 Unbelievable1

12 Sep 2017 09:43:02
This is what Klopp said yesterday, Harry. on the first goal, there was no covever for the CB's and both CB's did not know what to do, either to push up and play the offside or to drop deep and contain the City forwards. Klavan dropped deep and Matip pushed up and there is the goal. Lack of communication really. We move on.

12 Sep 2017 09:45:01
I think it was a case of our defenders couldn't be bothered to defend rather than can't defend.

12 Sep 2017 10:13:40
Not exactly, You close down KDB then the through doesn't happen in the first place. Both Matip and Klavan had to deal with Aguero and Jesus.

We need to stop the first time ball. Whether it's a cross or a pass. We failed to do so. You stop someone putting crosses you automatically stop them scoring from head! Simple.

12 Sep 2017 12:37:35
Those are the basics of defending, Harry BUT it seems our boys were not interested in even doing such things.

12 Sep 2017 13:16:13
Never thought we would ever come along on any matter. You are right, stop the supply and stop any danger. Our full
Backs need to stop opposition in reaching byline and putting crosses.

12 Sep 2017 16:24:59
You know Coutinho still plays for us right Harry? Also he didn't play on Saturday so we can't really draw conclusions from his influence on the game as it was nil.

12 Sep 2017 08:38:58
Really excited for the Sevilla game now.

Chamberlain and Coutinho both likely to come in. As are Robertson, Gomez and Karius! I also hope Sturridge gets a game. Sevilla couldn't live with him in the 2016 final!

Whatever your opinions on the City game, we are now a day away from our first Champions league game in about 3 years so let's move on and get behind the lads!

Believable10 Unbelievable1

12 Sep 2017 08:44:19
I would be surprised Karius and Gomez start. Anyway, looking for any kind of win will do me.

12 Sep 2017 08:57:24
In what way could they not live with him mk? They won the game.

12 Sep 2017 09:13:03
Couldn't live with sttur9dge. Didn't they beat us and he was terrible, oh no wait he scored a goal so that equals a top performance.

12 Sep 2017 09:19:18
Yes I hope Danny gets a start tomorrow. Play two wingers either side of him and Couts behind him. He is the best finisher we have. Sevilla is a decent team and let's not underestimate them!

12 Sep 2017 09:33:59
You all must have blinkered memories. He scored an absolute beauty, and could've had more. Their defence couldn't get close to him in the first half. You can't judge him on the second half because the service completely dried up.

Sturridge is lethal when he is given time a space. In the Premier League, he doesn't get that as often as he is afforded it against European opposition. I reckon he could be our top scorer in Europe this season.

12 Sep 2017 09:44:36
MK, your last point on Studge is very interesting. We will see if it comes to fruition and if he gets to play. I think he will, IMO.

12 Sep 2017 09:46:40
Can you guys seriously not remember how lucky they were first half? Sturridge had a few good chances, Firmino should've won a penalty after turning their man inside out etc.

It is amazing how a bad second half after a ridiculous individual error can completely alter peoples memories!

Anyway, that's not the point of this post. Can we please just support the team? Or are we going to slag them off for losing 2 years ago to Sevilla?

Let's get ourselves up for some revenge!

12 Sep 2017 09:50:47
I hope your right about Karius. Migs has been dreadful this season.

12 Sep 2017 10:12:12
I am excited to see him in Europe Bingo. I think the more open European style game will suit him. He likes to get the ball and look up to see space. In the Prem when you look up their is an ugly mug like McAuley or Shawcross already about to wipe you out.

Mikey i wouldn't worry mate. In my opinion Karius will be the CL keeper, Mignolet will play league games, but i thimk Ward will play in the cups. I think Ward and Karius are basically up against each other for the goal keeper position for next season and Klopp can ease Mignolet out as this season goes on. He has already dropped him once so people won't be surprised when it happens again.

12 Sep 2017 11:10:21
That first goal against Sevilla by Sturridge form outside of his left foot is exactly why he would always remain inside the world class category. For me he is up there with Fowler. Danny could score any type of goals. I would be delighted if he plays tomorrow!

12 Sep 2017 11:30:53
Fowler? Massive claim there Harry. God was good for 30 goals a season for about 3-5 years. Sturridge has only ever broke the 20 mark once.

I can see the comparison. Left footed, technically gifted, capable of any type of goal imaginable etc. But Fowler was special mate. If injuries hadn't struck Fowler down i think we'd genuinely be discussing a player in the top 5 in history. Find me another teenager scoring 36 goals in one season in history, and I'll show you a flying pig with a unicorn horn.

I think Harry Kane is the closest to Fowler in the modern day, but even he isn't a patch on God.

12 Sep 2017 11:52:40
What a goal ds scored against seville last time! Absolute class.

12 Sep 2017 12:08:53
Flower had a short backlift which helped him to trigger it quickly against any keepers so does Danny. This is a unique feature among strikers. If not injury Sturridge would have surpassed every possible record out there atbte coub!

12 Sep 2017 12:44:13
MK, this is why Harry Kane tho an excellent player, is not in Studge's league when it comes to being able to score from almost anywhere on the pitch and the in-born faculty to find the net in impossible situations. In fact on the Seville goal, the more you watch it, the better it is. I hope he gets in the team tmrw and I also believe that Karius will be the CL GK and I hope he can get it done cos like Mikey said, Migs is simply no longer possible, anymore.

12 Sep 2017 13:18:36
Was only one player I was pissed with after seville game and that was moreno. He was so poor I actually considered deter he threw the game on purpose! Of course he didn't but he was that bad.

Anyone who cuddles a seville player in the tunnel should be fined a weeks wages.

12 Sep 2017 16:23:35
Exactly MK.

Every team suffers a serious set back, just look at Chelsea's terrible start to last season, then look what happpend!

I was fuming on Saturday after the result and said a few things on here that I shouldn't have - cough cough.

But we need to re group and get the job done tomorrow
night.
