Use our rumours form to send us liverpool transfer rumours.

12 Sep 2016 22:57:21
Hi eds, just wondered what your thoughts and opinions were on Adam Lallana getting a new deal?

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - I don't have any thoughts on it sorry. If Klopp thinks he deserves it, that is the important thing.}

13 Sep 2016 04:28:11
What we need to keep in mind is that we need experienced home grown players in our squad. How many experienced, talented, home grown players are out there that are both attainable and somewhat suited to Klopp's style/ system? I am not saying Lallana ticks all boxes, but maybe he ticks enough for Klopp.

13 Sep 2016 10:16:43
I've been one of Lallana's biggest critics since he's been with us, but if he can continue with the form he's shown so far this season then he will be indispensable. He has finally started to actually produce an end product to all his lovely twists and turns and is actually having a positive effect on our attacks.

13 Sep 2016 10:58:54
To be fair to lallana he has been great so far this year, he has been positive with his play and been scoring goals, which is exactly what we wanted from him.

13 Sep 2016 12:19:22
Im with you scarface, he's driven me nuts in past seasons but in the last three or four games he's contributed hugely.

13 Sep 2016 23:18:54
He was rubbish against Burnley, but then they all were.
He was great against Arsenal and scored a belter on Saturday. Can't remember much about the Spuds game, bit of a forgettable match.

12 Sep 2016 21:38:57
Ed what did you think of Babel, immensely talented but seems to be more interested in us now than he did when he played for us! Did he have an attitude problem?

Believable2 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - he is a nice lad and a very genuine Liverpool fan but he was too busy trying to make a career in music to knuckle down and work at his football.}

12 Sep 2016 22:16:47
Always remember he used to cut inside beating a man, and smash a shot, which always went near post, if he could just put it across the keeper he would have scored loads more.

13 Sep 2016 09:26:02
I will always remember him for his helicopter :)

13 Sep 2016 10:30:17
What are people's opinions on Markus babbel? (before his illness) I always thought he was our best full back in the last 20 years, but after speaking to some fellow fans the word average was mentioned a lot.

{Ed001's Note - fantastic player, anyone who thinks he was average has never seen him play.}

13 Sep 2016 11:33:04
I'll never forgot when he posted a photo of Howard Webb in a man united shirt on Twitter.

13 Sep 2016 12:23:47
Walsallred, absolutely agree with Ed001. He was one of the reasons we won the treble in 2001, not average at all! If he hadn't developed GB I'm pretty sure we could have got even closer to the title in 2002 (that alongside Geds heart issue) .

In terms of best full back in 20 years, I would put him alongside Rob Jones who just sneaks into that timescale.

Next level down (for me) would be Finnan and Riise, imo.

13 Sep 2016 12:41:25
Btw, has anyone read 'Robbed' Rob Jones' autobiography? One from that era that I haven't read yet! Any good?

13 Sep 2016 14:50:54
Markus Babel is simply one of the best defenders I`ve ever seen even before his LFC career. Go watch the battle he had with Shearer during the Euro`96 semi final when he marked him man to man. Awesome player.

13 Sep 2016 20:31:26
I thought we were talking about Ryan Babel hahaha, my bad.

13 Sep 2016 23:24:00
We were bobcat and then it changed to Markus. šŸ˜„

Markus was not average at all, he was a class player and could have played in several positions.
Ryan I would say was average. He loved to stand in an offside position, seemed a bit afraid of his own ability in my eyes and never really asserted himself like he should have.
The Howard Webb tweet was legendary though šŸ˜†.

12 Sep 2016 21:17:02
Where's Benny these days?

Believable2 Unbelievable4

13 Sep 2016 07:00:33
Neither here nor there.

13 Sep 2016 07:20:41
To bad Benny that you stopped making pods.

13 Sep 2016 10:01:47
We've not stopped :)

12 Sep 2016 21:11:16
Sorry to he a pain ed001. Was wondering what your thoughts on trent alexander arnold are? Is much expected of him. Anyothet posters seen him regularly?

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed001's Note - it depends who you speak to regarding him. He is certainly not getting the big hype like Ojo was or anything, but there is a hope he will make it with us. Not an expectation though.}

12 Sep 2016 21:23:01
He's in some great form at the moment and he had an excellent pre season with the first team. I really hope the lad makes it.

13 Sep 2016 06:20:04
I watched the recent u23 match against Leicester city and he was outstanding as a right back.

13 Sep 2016 07:15:41
Well think of this what you will.

A mate of mine was in the new Main Stand on Saturday, and he told me there are huge memorials all over the walls showcasing all the greats like Fairclough, Souness, Dalglish, Gerrard. and Ryan Babel

Im not sure he should be in the middle of that lot but he is up there none the less.

13 Sep 2016 07:16:23
Ooops, I replied on the wrong thread.

13 Sep 2016 23:25:54
Alexander Arnold is definitely not up there with Souness, Dalglish or Gerrard.

12 Sep 2016 20:48:41
Tonight must be the first time I've wanted moyes to win a football match.

Believable12 Unbelievable4

12 Sep 2016 20:15:24
Not entirely the final word on success, but ESPN team of the week has Milner slotted in at Left Back. Perhaps Klopp found his man? left back crisis solved!

Believable7 Unbelievable4

13 Sep 2016 04:31:20
LOL!

13 Sep 2016 14:15:14
This the same team of the week that chose Carzola for not losing his head with a last minute penalty rather than firmino or mane for 90 minutes of great football?

13 Sep 2016 14:52:34
Firmino was not in the team of the week despite being outstanding vs LC. Hence, Teams of the week mean nothing.

12 Sep 2016 19:22:49
Ed001, just wanted your input on this. Diouf said he warned Balotelli against a liverpool move, and blamed Gerrard for Mario's failure at liverpool. Now, I know this is completely ridiculous to suggest that Balotelli failed because of Gerrard, and you can comment on Diouf being a moron, but I was hoping I'd get your input on Gerrard. I know you don't think of him as highly as the less educated Liverpool fans. But was he really that bad of an influence?

Believable1 Unbelievable6

{Ed001's Note - not as bad as Diouf tries to make out, but Diouf is scum of the worst kind. He makes Joey Barton seem like the kind of lad you would want dating your daughter. Gerrard is, and was, an arrogant arse who thought he ruled the club, but he was in no way that bad an influence. He did make it difficult for some of the youngsters, but nothing to that degree. He just expected people to do everything he said or they would get constant sniping comments etc, like when Torres didn't want to go out on the lash with the lads because he wanted to spend time at home with his family. Gerrard's influence on the managers was more of the issue, as he would have far too much input into the team selection and transfers.}

12 Sep 2016 20:56:57
Precisely why I'm hesitant to have him back in a coaching capacity. Great player, great achievements but let's leave it there and move on.

12 Sep 2016 21:22:14
Ed what about Carra? Was he like Gerrard or was he just overly passionate?

{Ed001's Note - he was nothing like Gerrard, but he was his bezzie and always joined in and backed him up.}

12 Sep 2016 21:24:00
NorthYorkshireRed

Well said.
Gerrard back at the club would be a huge step backwards.

12 Sep 2016 22:33:51
Disagree with you both Gerrard knows how big the club is and everyone in world football knows who he is . If he what's to be a couch there's no better place to do it at .

{Ed001's Note - what relevance does any of that have to do with coaching? His ability as a coach should be the only thing that matters. If he is as good a coach as he was a player then he should be welcomed with open arms, otherwise he should not be involved with the Liverpool set up.}

12 Sep 2016 22:48:40
Probably one of the most sensible descisions ballotelli ever made was taking advice from diouf.

12 Sep 2016 23:53:47
Either I've missed out a crucial word in my post or one of the eds has hacked it lol.

{Ed007's Note - You've missed a word buddy, that was your post.}

13 Sep 2016 04:41:52
That's ridiculous, Balotelli failed because he couldn't be arsed, not because it was Gerrard's fault or is Diouf suggesting that Balo was a success everywhere else? Also, who the hell even listens to that piece of sh*t anymore? I don't know a single person who has any shred of respect for that scumbag.

13 Sep 2016 14:19:30
Balotelli failed because the total effort he put into his entire time at LFC was less than the his first game at Nice. But as soon as he starts being praised, he'll go back to normal.

13 Sep 2016 22:57:52
I thought it was revealing when Mario mentioned that he needed a "calm environment". Maybe this self awareness is the first signs that he is finally growing up.
Every player is different, some thrive no matter what, some work hard no matter what but some need an environment that suits them in order to thrive. It will be interesting to see how he goes at Nice - I would love him to succeed if only because I hate seeing players waste their talent (probably because I don't have much) .

13 Sep 2016 23:30:38
I keep telling myself Diouf never played for LFC it was all just a bad dream. Sadly he did. Subhuman scumbag.

Ballotelli is just immature. I don't know what happened to him in Italy but he is nothing like the hard working dedicated Italian players I know of. He wasn't that bad for LFC and didn't get up to too many crazy antics. He was just a bad signing, didn't fit in the team at all.

12 Sep 2016 18:30:08
There was a post before about the white nets at anfield again.

The club website has an article up about it now for anybody interested. Basically, JĆ¼rgen asked ground staff to change them from red to white in order to make them more visible in the players' peripheral vision.

Apparenetly the red netting wasn't as striking to the eye as the white ones are while in the thick of the action.

Believable10 Unbelievable3

13 Sep 2016 01:40:01
Maybe someone can invent colour changing nets? When we're attacking one end the nets are white, and the other end is red?

{Ed007's Note - That would be easy to do with fibre optic lighting woven into the netting I'd imagine - get on it and we'll split the money 50/50... Half to me and half to you and Ed001 for the sites.}

13 Sep 2016 05:41:10
With that percentage you should be an agent 007 :)

{Ed007's Note - My generosity is just one of my many weaknesses, Burkey.}

13 Sep 2016 12:55:23
Seriously though why has that not happened yet?

13 Sep 2016 14:24:02
I imagine it's not happened because it's spectacularly against the rules John! The stadium is not actively allowed try and put off one side - otherwise they'd just play psychedelic electronic billboards behind the home goal to distort balance.

13 Sep 2016 23:33:39
Alternatively John, why not get holograms of lions or hippos charging at the opposition? Or holograms of footballs bouncing about so the opposition don't know which is the correct ball?

12 Sep 2016 18:14:52
The movement from Mane and Firmino against Leicester was absolutely thrilling to watch. They ran circles around each and every Leicester player. Not trying to give them all the credit as there are nine other reds on the pitch but we would not have beat Leicester if it was not for Mane and Firmino's tireless effort. Hats off to them.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

12 Sep 2016 18:58:16
Yeah agree, it's great watching mane, just his grit and determination is brilliant also he looks a bit scary like he wants to get right stuck in and fight for the ball which as spectators we want to see as fans we know those attributes can make you special, same goes for firmino good signings the pair, maybe they'll become great signings.

12 Sep 2016 21:19:58
You forgot sturridge.

13 Sep 2016 09:32:58
Is this the same Mane that loads of posters not so long ago were saying " another player from Southampton that we don't need" and that he had an attitude problem. Maybe Klopp was right then.

13 Sep 2016 10:44:00
Hmmmm there's plenty of time yet for the knee-jerkers to be proven right about Mane. And like any player, he will go through a drop in form, then of course that will justify all the pre-hate.
Seriously, he is a seriosuly good player. Y.

12 Sep 2016 17:01:11
Ed I know you have said why change a winning team but do you expect Lovren and Karius to come in for Lucas and Mignolet on Friday?

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed001's Note - expect? Lovren yes, not so sure about Karius. There is a great excuse for Klopp, with Migs taking knocks, but I think he will stick with him. Bit early to know for sure though.}

12 Sep 2016 18:28:18
Hey ed, how about wee Phil Coutinho? Do you think he should return to the starting 11, and in whose place?

{Ed001's Note - no, you don't change a winning team.}

12 Sep 2016 19:02:30
I'm not saying it's right but I have a feeling he will come in for sturridge.

12 Sep 2016 19:25:15
Honestly, we slow down with Coutinho on the pitch. It's not because Coutinho is a bad player; but when he gets the ball everyone just watches to see "what's phil going to do this time? " More often that not, its cut in from the left, fire from 30 out and either blast it 30 feet over the crossbar, or off a defender. Every time he scores a screamer from out there I am ecstatic, but then realize that he's going to think he can continue settling for it, and I get a little sad. He needs to stop settling for that so much.

12 Sep 2016 20:30:32
If it ain`t broke, don`t fix it, end of.

12 Sep 2016 20:49:25
Coutinho will thrive if the team are consistent in hiw they performed vs leicester. All those runs and movements would be gold for coutinho.

12 Sep 2016 20:55:52
I'd like to see Coutinho coming off the bench for GW, he played well in a midfield 3 in the 13/ 14 season. Was well able to get stuck in and with the movement ahead of him he'll be spoilt for choice to pick a pass.

12 Sep 2016 21:16:41
I agree with Den82 I think he will go with Firmino as false 9 and swap Sturridge for Coutinho. Sturridge on the bench.

12 Sep 2016 22:09:11
I agree totally on the Coutinho comment. I believe it is written written the pressure to add goals as a striker. Now if he were a playmaker with movement in front of him it will be another story. So for me it is Sturridge/ Origi in front, Firmino and Mane from the wings Lallana and GW/ Coutinho in the middle, Henderson/ Stewart just behind them then Lovren, Matip, Milner and Clyne, Migs is showing the gains of having competition for his position so I say leave him until he looses form or gets injured.

13 Sep 2016 13:00:58
Sturridge showed some of his old self on sat, movement, trickery just lacked finishing otherwise he would have had two. Point is his unpredictable movement created space for the likes of lallana, firmino and mane. Not only that he had an awareness of them and showed excellent link up play which i have not seen from him in a long time.

I feel to bench him now would be to the detriment of his form and the value it brings to the team to have him on form.

Play him i say and sub him if required.

12 Sep 2016 16:13:59

12 Sep 2016 15:09:00
Eid Mubarak to all Today! YNWA.

Believable13 Unbelievable9

12 Sep 2016 13:14:45
Big game vs Chelsea Friday, can make a real statement if we can beat them. Also really liking the look of Matip, hoping he can bully Costa and keep him quiet. Few mistakes but the positives far outweigh them this season! Also as fans we support the club, which includes the manager, players and everybody involved, give them a break it's boring reading about how poor Moreno and mignolet are. Up the reds.

Believable7 Unbelievable5

12 Sep 2016 13:37:49
As long non players come out with title talk BS, we should be good enuf for a draw.

12 Sep 2016 13:45:41
The only mistake I saw that Matip made was when trying to step out of his zone to win the ball off Musa and stumbled. This opened the door for Mahrez to find Vardy who took Matip`s vacated space) who then shot but Mingo saved. He also bullied vardy when he tried to beat him for pace and he didn`t panic. he just ushered the ball out of play. Calmness personified. Apart form that error, he was more than solid. Costa will be a real test for him come Friday, tho.

12 Sep 2016 13:49:07
I do love a good statement, almost as much as a smokescreen.

12 Sep 2016 15:21:34
Totally agree Mikey! I think both words should be banned from the site!

12 Sep 2016 17:40:37
You don't bully Costa. You just keep calm when he tries to wind you up and he doesn't have a lot more in his locker than that (above any other decent striker)

12 Sep 2016 20:50:33
Pretty big statement at the bridge and etihad last season. lol.

12 Sep 2016 13:12:59
Any chance of putting the mistake by Lucas and migs behind us now and focusing on the fact that we once again scored 4 goals, looked extremely dangerous and beat last seasons champions?

Believable15 Unbelievable5

12 Sep 2016 13:38:20
No. Liverpool fans will forgive but never forget.

12 Sep 2016 13:45:59
I`ve moved on.

12 Sep 2016 13:56:55
I had moved on.

12 Sep 2016 14:29:48
I moved on, then had to mention another point. I have since moved on. Again.

12 Sep 2016 16:11:07
id be concerned if that 1 mistake costs us the game, as we were leading 2 1.

i think the reaction was positive and the team did not let that mistake creeping on them so i'm happy. mistakes happen, itll happen every game most likely, bt its what they decide to do after that matters.

the moment we won the game, I've already moved on.

12 Sep 2016 19:55:03
What mistake? šŸ˜Ž.

12 Sep 2016 20:20:56
Easy to forget, but Chelski won't be as easy to take out with 4 goals. Therefore, we have to avoid silly mistakes. I would still be cool if Lucas at the back, though only if we added more grit in Midfield for the game. Can or Grujic, and Windaljum on the bench.

12 Sep 2016 20:21:32
Or, Lucas in midfield, if Lovren of Klavan available.

12 Sep 2016 20:51:52
I'd forgiven by half time. As lucas continued to dominate in the second half, I'd completely forgotten.

12 Sep 2016 08:58:22
Hi Eds. Quick question. Noticed how good Lucas was building play from the back. Are we likely to see his permanent conversion to CB such as that of Mascherano at Barcelona.

Believable2 Unbelievable8

{Ed001's Note - well Mash has not converted permanently to centre back, he still wants to play in midfield and does so at times. Lucas will play where he is asked to, I think it does suit him though, he just needs to learn the role.}

12 Sep 2016 13:48:05
His ability to pass the ball showed why he could be a good CB in the way we play. The raking pass to Milner that sprung the first goal and the inside-forward pass to Firmino that sprung the move for the second goal, shows how cultured his passing ability is. But as Ed said, he will have to learn the CB position entirely.

12 Sep 2016 08:46:44
Looks like John Terry will miss the game against us on Friday night, I think that's a negative for us.

Believable8 Unbelievable11

12 Sep 2016 09:10:59
Terry is a big game player. Even with some known weaknesses, in the end, he will pull something out of the bag, be that a last ditch tackle, an inspired 2nd half or pop up for a corner with a late goal.

I would rather he didn't play, to be honest.

12 Sep 2016 09:23:16
Much rather face sideshow bob.

12 Sep 2016 09:57:15
Would be nicer if the one missing was Costa. He is a massive player for them. Draw so much attentin from defenders and still has time to score a few and miss one or two sitters as well. Not a fan of the guy, but would be much happier to see him on the bench.

12 Sep 2016 13:49:09
I`ll take whatever first teamer who can`t play 9especially the capt, leader and big game player like Terry) as a positive.

12 Sep 2016 16:34:32
People have been knocking Terry for a few years now. Fact is, he remains a very good player and is still crucial to everything Chelsea do. Any possibility of him or Hazard not being on the team sheet is good news.

12 Sep 2016 17:00:25
I'm always up for a bit of gamesmanship - get one or two of our defenders to wind up Costa for the first 15mins on Friday and he'll soon be on a yellow card meaning he'll have to tailor his game a little to avoid a second.

I know some people won't like that but let's be honest, Costa is a good player but he let's himself down by being a thuggish cheat on occasion and we need to learn a little bit of that ourselves.

12 Sep 2016 17:44:51
We have enough in the tank to be able to beat whatever XI any team in England put together. Whether we will or not is another matter - we need to perform at the top of our game but we can do it.

12 Sep 2016 08:01:04
The real ag, fanobip, irish rover, big al and whoever else in your thread down the page trying to absolve Mingolet for the goal on Saturday can't possibly have played 11 a side football! The lad is completely empty headed, clearly klopp wants to play out from the back and fair enough he's being asked to give it to one of the CB'S when they split but not when there are two opposition players closing you down!

You use your brain and if it's not on then you play it to a midfielder dropping off or if that's not on because your penned in then you go long down the channels.

I'm not taking the blame away from lucas (and I'm not his biggest fan which is why I'm defending him) but if the keeper uses common sense then lucas isn't put under huge pressure were his poor touch is punished, if he would have let the ball roll across his body and he hadn't tried to take a touch what do you think he'd have done with the ball? Yes played it down the line to milner or the more advanced midfielder!

So that's what Mingolet should have done but down the opposite side but he's clueless, oh and by the way that apart he didn't have a good game at all he was awful AGAIN flapping at crosses totally missing them completely at times, his block save from vardy is a prerequisite for a keeper I'm afraid, that's his job plus it was more a rash finish that a brilliant save for me, can you all stop making excuses for him and looking for positives that aren't there, he's been here three years now and he's regressed and he was poor to start with, wijnaldum has been here for four games and is getting stick maybe you should all be looking to cut him some slack and save your positive spin for him, was he great on Saturday? No! Did he show a few positives to build on? Yes!

I know that's going to be hard for you big Al because you slagged him and mane before a ball had been kicked so your itching to be proved right and maybe with wijnaldum you'll be proved correct but at least give him a chance .

Believable16 Unbelievable15

12 Sep 2016 08:58:32
Waro, there seem to be a clear instruction from Klopp to play from the back and when you play from the back there will be opposition players around. I donā€™t think the instruction is play from the back only when there is no opposition player in our half. But there was no one near Lucas at the time of the pass, there was nothing wrong with this pass and I am sure that at the time of the pass you and everyone else didnā€™t think there was anything wrong with it. When Lucas made a mess of it is easy in retrospect to start and look back say who should have done what differently five minutes earlier. This goal was 100% Lucas fault.

I donā€™t rate Mings at all, thought and still think he should be replaced, and was wondering here why we didnā€™t try to bring Hart on loan although his form has dipped big time recently as well. But I donā€™t like it when players who are disliked here are being blamed for everything that goes wrong. It is a tradition here sometimes. In pervious years it was customary to blame Skertl and Mings in everything including that our strikers couldnā€™t find the net or Ibe lost another ball ā€˜because it all starts from the backā€™. Not everything is Mings fault.

On a different note I hope Klopp will change this playing from the back instruction because it is an accident waiting to happened. Everyone in the team seem to be keen to show that they can pass opposition players with the ball in our half and sooner or later they will lose the ball.

{Ed001's Note - actually I was screaming at Migs to stop and take his time, even as he was running over to put the ball down to take the kick. We were well on top and should have been looking to see the half out, not put it straight back into play.}

12 Sep 2016 09:26:27
Well fanobip my exact words sitting there were no no no no you f## ( ( ( s! _##, f'#-_-#.

I'm that used to his poor decision making that i could see the danger he'd put lucas in, I obviously didn't forsee the touch and what happened next but I new instantly it was the wrong ball to play.

I think your being a touch pedantic with regard to your comment about only playing out from the back when there's no opposition player in your half, that's never happened in the history of football, try and keep it sensible mate.

12 Sep 2016 10:03:46
Bring Hart in fanobip is a joke right, you obv didn't see him play the weekend for Torino, he was all over the place, can't understand why a few posters on here are desperate for him
Just incase you lot didn't know Klopp signed a keeper.

12 Sep 2016 10:19:46
I see, any help with the numbers for the lottery draw this week?

12 Sep 2016 10:37:56
How can you look to see out a half with 8 minutes to play is beyond me. 20% of the half still to play? Not to mention all of the second half to play? The game isn't over on 37 mins, so to suggest that Liverpool look to see it out is daft in my opinion. Plenty of teams have came from 2-0 down with 53 mins still to play.

Waro the opposing player was nearly 18 yards away from Lucas. There are players that receive the ball from goal kicks in matches up and down the country with opposing players closer. Are they all mistakes by the keeper?

As for not playing 11 aside football, do you want me to give you a list of who i have played with and still do to this day? You might need google but i would guess they are easily a class above anyone you can mention on a regular basis or ever for that matter. What about Norman Whiteside, back in the day when the great Bob Bishop was alive in his Summer camps down in Helens Bay. Philip Knell, Man Utd then Rangers released by Souness from his bath tub, Andy Mathieson Man Utd then went to Crewe with David Platt. I could go on.
Please don't insult my intelligence to think that you are the fountain of all knowledge or indeed the only person ever to play football, if infact you did. You can talk the talk, i will give you that.

Leicester player was 7/ 8 maybe 9/ 10 yards away when Lucas received the ball! That's plenty of space/ time for Lucas to deal with it especially as I bet they been training on such moves repetatively.
Lucas error for me but who cares, it happens and we won convinceingly āš½ļøšŸ˜€
To put it to bed - agree for Lucas mistake or disagree for Migs!

12 Sep 2016 10:45:50
The last point i'm going to make on the subject is this:
Was there a goal-scoring opportunity when Migs passed to Lucas? No, Lucas had options. Was there a goal-scoring opportunity when Lucas miscontrolled it? Not really as he was still closest to the ball and could have skewed it into touch or touched a hospital ball back to Migs. He still had options. It was only when he toe-poked across goal that a scoring chance was created.
We see players cope in tight, pressurised situations all game but unfortunately Lucas (my favorite player) was the only one who panicked and turned a dangerous situation into a goal-scoring opportunity.

12 Sep 2016 11:44:48
The problem as I saw it was less to do with passing it to Lucas but more the fact it was horribly under hit. That's why he was closed down so quickly as he is waiting for it to come out of the box. But the reality is a cock up from both players led to the goal.

Cheers.

12 Sep 2016 12:29:29
Greggars you can't enter the box until the ball is in play which means it has left the penalty area which meant Lucas should have had approx 15 yards of space. The only reason Ozaki was that close is because he encroached the box well before the ball was in play. Now 15 yards is enough for any average player to look up and pick a pass. Maybe Waro needs more, maybe he has the turning circle of the QE2?

12 Sep 2016 13:58:39
Irish, you are correct about the rule but you can`t expect the ref to bail you out of situations you can bail yourself out of on your own. If the ref interpreted that it was not an infringement as is the case here (I doubt even coaches know this rule because I certainly didn`t know it), what do you do then? The fact of the matter is that Mingo didn`t even look to see how LC set up to press us. If he did, hwe would have seen that Okazaki was btw Hendo and Lucas and Vardy was btw Matip and Hendo. That pass should never have been played because Lucas should never have been passed to. Instead of surveying the fild in front of him, he puts the ball down and then passes to Lucas blindly. Okazaki is now on to p of him. he can`t give it back to Mingo because Vardy was already on his bike (hence, in a good position to score), he panics and the rest is history. There is a double mistake by both players but Mingo should have just managed the situation better. A GK is there to do a lot more than just make saves. He has to be the cool head, the composed figure at the back and a game manager. That will only happen if he is very self-confident, tactically aware and a composed figure, all of the things Mingo is NOT. The guy is a bag of nerves (especially with the ball at his feet), indecisive, low on confidence in his own ability and severely erratic. Therefore, Karius is here to take his place.

12 Sep 2016 14:10:58
"Bail out! " Its in the laws of the game. Just like offsides or throw ins. They are there for a reason.

12 Sep 2016 14:19:18
Fanobip, don't no what your implying!

Irish rover, I played Sunday league nothing at your exalted level but the fact your saying that you played at such a level make your views even more embarrassing fella.

Lucas controls that ball or as I said let's it roll across him then what does he do? He had wijnaldum in the centre or back to Mingolet or a long ball down the line, play it to wijnaldum that puts him under pressure, back to Mingolet it puts him under pressure, play it down the line would have been his best option ( basically what Mingolet would have been better served doing in the first place rather than cause the situation he did, ) so I don't care if you did keepie uppies with Marco van Basten your football intelligence on the pitch must be awful!

Seeing the game out to half time was exactly what we should have been doing and that doesn't mean time wasting for 8 minutes that means evaluating your options using your head being football savvy, not taking a quick short goal kick and putting your CB under pressure, if the short ball wasn't on (which it wasn't) then look use your brain and play it down the channels if you have to, what am I saying this is Mingolet were talking about, he doesn't get a haircut he gets his head planed (wooden head) can I suggest the same barber for you irish rover šŸ˜‰.

P. S. I wouldn't have been in lucas's position to turn like the QE2, I played up front fella. šŸ‘.

12 Sep 2016 15:05:15
Mingolet doesn't put Lucas under pressure, Ozaki does by encroaching the area before the ball is in play. You do know the rules of the game Waro. Ozaki gains 6 yards minimum before the ball leaves the box. Plenty of time for Lucas to put his knee on the ball before playing it.

Seeing the game out? Where Liverpool seeing the game out when they scored in the 88th minute when winning 3-1? Laughable Waro.

12 Sep 2016 17:11:21
Your entitled to your opinion rover but it seems to me you don't like being challenged on it!

You possibly have a point somewhere in your posts but I'm struggling to find it, maybe if you articulated yourself a little better then your posts wouldn't come across as arrogant and pompous.

12 Sep 2016 18:52:49
Challenge away Waro until your heart is content but if i think i'm right on something then what would you think i'm going to do? I've seen too many on here get a caning from an Ed then agree with everything they say after. that's up to them but its not me.

As for the arrogant and pompous? that's a classic coming from your good self. Put up an edgy post then whine to an Ed where it is and how everyone can't take it. A bit full of your own self importance i think.

Anyway at the end of the day i know i'm right šŸ˜‰. Enjoy your Sunday league football but check out the goals kick rules before you make an ass out of yourself.

12 Sep 2016 22:13:11
Hi all red men after reading some of the post about the goal we let in on Saturday . Firstly it was a dead ball kick and when a dead ball kick is inside of the penalty area then the opposition player can not enter the penalty area until the ball has come out side of penalty area, This was not the case as the opposition player was inside our penalty area before the ball left the area and in so doing this the referee should of blew to retake the kick again. So have a go at the ref or assistant ref before you turn on our players .

I must say I am not a fan of Ming to be honest but if the referee new the rules then ming or lucas would of done nothing for all hands to moan about even that manc Webb highlighted this so calm down boys and let our manager decide if he drops one or both or realises the referee made a mess of a simple decision.

13 Sep 2016 15:51:11
Did the opposing player gain an advantage by being in the box before the ball left it?

YES.
By being in the box he was able to close Lucas down quicker and so force the error.

Simple as that

Mingolets decision making gets us into trouble a few times each match.
Its an ongoing issue.

12 Sep 2016 07:51:47
Sorry Ed001, I specifically went to the game to watch his performance above others as I was sceptical. I came away really impressed by GW. He kept possession really well on Saturday, and they both filled spaces all over the park wherever they appeared, which enabled others free movement. With hendo he gave real tempo and control to our game. Time will tell but his performance could not be faulted in Saturday and.

Believable5 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - why is that sorry? I am glad he played well.}

12 Sep 2016 08:32:48
He was not flashy, but I think he showed stability last time, and most importantly - he got back to defend. People will not get behind him before he adds goals to his game (and maybe not even then, it seems any Liverpool CM needs to score a minimum of 15 goals a season to pass the grade) ; however, getting the basics right is far more important at this stage of development of the club, we already have plenty of goal-scorers.

12 Sep 2016 08:46:20
Sorry in the sense of being polite as a precursor to disagreeing with your original post in which you suggested GW lost possession a lot in Saturday.

{Ed001's Note - read it again, I said initially he lost possession a lot, then he got going, epecially after his assist. He seemed to grow in confidence after that.}

12 Sep 2016 10:38:28
I think wijnaldum may just be a confidence thing, i'd like to see him replaced by Can and introduced off the bench further forward for a bit.

12 Sep 2016 10:02:28
When facing our goal and under pressure with the ball I do not like GW. I like his mobility I like his work ethic I like his attacking positioning and he can see and play the final ball.

12 Sep 2016 14:02:44
Wow, work rate, mobility and hardwork is currently what 25m pounds gets you these days. I thought 25m would get you a game-changing player that will provide a spark, score goals and provide assists (just like Firmino, for example) but alas. I definitely missed a career by not being a professional player as those attributes (work rate, hard work, mobility, full of running etc. ) are the basics for any player, none of which I lacked.

12 Sep 2016 16:56:51
I blame Migs more than Lucas. Purely based on the fact that he should never have received that pass at that pace.
By the time the ball reaches Lucas he can only do one of 2 things; pass it back to Migs or let it run across his body and slide it down the line to the full back.
The latter is a risky option given the distance the ball has to travel and the proximity of the opposing player means he then plays Milner into trouble.
He can't pass to GW for the same reasons.
He chose the Migs option only to notice Vary closing him down, hence he changed his mind as he was about to kick it but didn't stop his foot in time. The resulting toe poke was his desperate effort to not lose the ball.
Those of you telling us about your football ability will be able to appreciate from experience what happens when you try to pull out of a pass slightly to late!
The reason for blaming Migs is that if he thinks his pass was on then he has underhit it. I personally think he passed it without 1st assessing the situation. Or even worse, actually understanding the position he was putting Lucas in.
Regarding the comments about seeing the game out. I think you may be misunderstanding what is being said. We are talking about game management, not time wasting or sitting back. We saw in the Arsenal game when going 4-1 up that we should av just put our foot on the ball for 10 mins or so.

12 Sep 2016 07:16:33
Not really LFC related but I notice Jon Smith (self proclaimed super agent) is bringing out a book. "The Deal: Inside the World of a Super-Agent"

Anyone know if its worth a read? Particularly in terms of exposing what goes on behind the scenes during transfer season?

Believable0 Unbelievable4

12 Sep 2016 07:49:49
Dunno. Will let you know when it's out .

12 Sep 2016 07:12:40
We have taken 7 out of 9 points from teams that finished in the top4 last year. Yes we dropped points against Burnley but this year is certainly shaping up to be exhilarating.

Believable8 Unbelievable4

12 Sep 2016 10:18:50
Correction; 7 out of 9 against the top 3 teams with two of the games away from home. Not trying to be pedantic but I just shows how extra impressive our start has been.

12 Sep 2016 14:04:40
That is quite impressive indeed. however where we really need to push on will be against the "lesser" teams, which has been our archilles heel for years. This is what we need to put right. if we can, top four (or better? ) for sure, awaits us.

12 Sep 2016 06:49:12
Morning eds

Can you give us your thoughts on both Wijnaldum and Lallanas contribution so far this season please? I've been reading the posts and it seems opinions are divided. Imo they both have been decent and I can't see who Klopp is going to bring out to get Emre in the team when he is fit?

Believable3 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - both have been awful before yesterday. Even yesterday Wijnaldum struggled to have an effect on the game, constantly giving the ball away, until he got an assist, then he was popping up in our final third helping the defence out and played a big part in a very good team performance. It is far too early to judge him overall. He is still adjusting to the way we play but yesterday showed signs that he is getting there. He does provide movement, off the ball, that was crucial to the way we played yesterday. He just needs to do that on a consistent basis now. Still, for me, I would give him a bare minimum 10 games before I would even think about judging how he is playing.

Lallana has just been Lallana, it is not that he is so bad, it is that what he does, most of the time, is the wrong thing and it has become more noticeable over time. His major failing being his tendency to take far too many touches, particularly when we are breaking and his extra touch gives the defence time to get back and kill the momentum of the attack over and over again. Yesterday he was a lot better, even adding a goal, but he needs to do that regularly. Again this performance was not the norm in his Liverpool career, so he has to prove this is his level, rather than the usual ineffective performances he puts in. He has to be incisive every week, not just once a season.}

12 Sep 2016 07:52:32
Ed,
It seems Klopp is picking Lallana and Wijnaldum based mostly on their ability to press.
With Firmino playing so well on the left, what are your thoughts on Coutinho and Henderson playing these roles?
This would keep Studge on the park, open up a spot for Can and surely you wouldn't lose much (if anything) closing down?
Coutinho played so well with Sturridge, Suarez and Sterling moving in front of him. The movement of Mane, Firmino and Studge would surely be comparable?

{Ed001's Note - I don't understand why anyone would want to change anything right now. Just go again with what worked.}

12 Sep 2016 09:59:43
They're is a saying you don't change a winning team.

12 Sep 2016 12:45:39
So ed you would go with same team against Chelsea and not bring Emre in for one of the above? I just think we need a bit more steel in CM against Chelsea attacking players don't you?

{Ed001's Note - Can does not offer steel, so I fail to see how his addition would help in that respect.}

12 Sep 2016 14:12:14
Steel? Can? That`s funny. Can (I`m a huge fan) is a very talented and athletic player BUT very undisciplined (tactically), lacks positional awareness and positional sense to play in the type of midfield that Klopp deploys hence, why he can`t play the position Hendo plays now as Hendo doesn`t lack any of those attributes.

12 Sep 2016 16:37:18
So you don't think Can offers anything more than Adds or Gini on our defensive third? He does imo.

{Ed001's Note - not really Can goes missing too often for my liking. When he is on his game he is great, but there are days when he just isn't and then he is almost a liability defensively.}

12 Sep 2016 17:00:01
Ok mate fair enough. I understand what ya saying.

{Ed001's Note - I like Can a lot, but he is still young and learning, especially in regards to defensive positioning in midfield. Right now the hustle and bustle of the two in there is working, so why change it?}

12 Sep 2016 17:16:46
Yeah i guess mate. So the 2 being Hendo and Gini at the minute. Its been hard to see were they have all been playing mate as they've all been everywere haven't they.

{Ed001's Note - that's a good thing though. It makes their movement harder to stop for an opponent.}
