People need to give Rodgers time. Think about these 2 facts:

1-We are relying heavily on three teenagers (Sterling, Suso, Wisdom)

2-We have one striker healthy right now

These are impossible conditions to win under. No manager could. Plus when you factor in that Rodgers plays a style that requires good, skilled players it compounds the problems. Sure we could change our style a bit for now to try to grind out results but that would be short sighted. It would mean the difference between being in 10th now instead of 13th. Who cares?

Look at the 2 clubs at the top of the table. United and City each have 4 very good strikers: RVP, Rooney, Chicharito and Welbeck for United, Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko and Balotelli for City. They could each lose 2 to injury and still be good up front.

Until we get a couple guys who score goals we won't be much above mid table. We have too many games where we outplay our opponents and lose cause we don't get goals. And we don't have enough games where we play poorly and score a couple and win.

Our other striker out on loan, wd sold many players without proper replacements and it's Rafael's kids coming through to save the day. Yeah I see your point

It is mainly Rafa's kids, coached by a hand appointed Benitez youth coach: Rodolfo. {Ed001's Note - it is not mainly Rafa's kids, Rafa did the right thing appointing Borrell, but he also did the right thing by not interfering in the youth team. Including not picking the players to recruit, he was not involved in choosing them, though was sometimes asked to talk to the player or his family to convince them.}

Can you compare the striker whom we send on loan and those we sold beacuse of the high wage and age to one of the strikers man city Utd or chelsea have?

Mate Rodgers knew the challenges and excepted liverpool job at the same time decided to make changes quickly before even thinking how will effect liverpool now he is like fish without water at the same time if we don't finish top4 soon then will be impossible to hold on our best playters including suarez neither will attract class players. Problems are going to get biger and biger january will be testing time interms of where our mighty club is heading

Actually its better to sell caroll rather than having him...he is just useless..

That's like saying it's Roy Evans' kids that have been saving us for the last decade.

MUSHROOM

I forgot our other Striker out on loan is banging them in.

I see most of you guys have forgotten how we have struggled against wigan these last few seasons..no team comes to anfield to defend these days they come to win..they won there last season..and would be really confident they could do it again..there are no sure 3points for us this days..we have to fight hard to win any game..

Mate they do come to defend wich is why we cant score. They just hit us on the counter attack.

hi eds heard a little whisper torres will be allowed to leave cheski on a cut price deal early as january summer defo if no one comes in for him do u think liverpool will be intersted in a punt or will he go back to spain

Cannot ever see him returning to Liverpool. I think his next destination will be Italy.

Bite back and bite back hard when you hear these little whispers mate.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

He needs us and we could help him and ourselves if he came back.

If Falcao joins Chelsea then as i have been saying for a while Torres will defiantly be used a player plus cash deal.

I apologise for being a pedant BigD but you keep saying defiant/ly when you mean definite/ly

So I see the internet is now awash with GIFs of Suarez celebrating alone, and various websites saying Suarez is disliked in the dressing room and that's why nobody celebrated with him. Would it be possible one day for the lad to have a game without the papers putting a bad spin on him?

JFT 96

JP

Probably not :)

Suarez is one of those player you either love or love to hate, we love him at LFC, players not celebrating with him was strange tbh he looked surprised himself but we move on, suarez will be scoring again next week end let hope he stays fit and does not get that 5th yellow card before January.

If that was the case why did they all follow Suarez across the field as he went to 'dive' in front of Moyes the week before?

You're right though, anything to have a negative story on the guy.

I think upto now (apart from the deadline striker fiasco) the season has gone ok. We have to remember it was a small squad with a lot of youngsters in there. When you add to this a new manager with a new system to implement the squad has done well.

We have players like Enrique now coming to the fore fighting for a place in the team. He was brilliant yesterday and him and Johnson showed that we have two full backs who can turn out quality displays (form aside). If they can keep their game at that level then we will have no problems at full back.

Agger is playing exceptional this season and along with Skrtle they are forming a great partnership at the back. Allen had a couple of bad games but every player has bad games so give the lad a chance.

In Suso, Sterling and Wisdom we have three youngsters who are really rising to the occasion . These three will be first teamers very soon. In particular Suso and Sterling, they've ceased the opportunity given and are developing really way in the first team.

With players like Ibe, Yesil, Sama, Coady, Teixera and Nacho to name just a few (how good does it feel saying that about our youth?) we have an abundance of quality coming through, not just in certain positions but every position.

Our next ten games are winnable games, I obviously don't mean we will win them all, but if we pick up a good run of results we can really mount a challenge for the top six.

By this time the transfer window will be open also, and with players in the calibure of Llorente, Huntelaar, Walcott and Sturridge reaching the last six months of their deals, it's a good time to be looking for a striker.

Even if we never signed one of the above strikers I'm sure the club will rectify our striker problem. I would honestly like to see Huntelaar arrive (if he's interested) to see if he can form a partnership with Suarez again. They were an awesome partnership at Ajax, and he is the type of striker we are crying our for.

I honestly think the result. Yesterday will have given the team some confidence to go into the weekend. Barring any injuries I'm quietly confident for the weekend. I know they've become a bit of a bogey team of late for us, but I see us playing with a lot more attacking force on Saturday.

Jonesred

Sterling and Wisdom already first teamers.

12 Nov 2012 21:44:06
eds, are there any plans to renew brad jones' contract as he's a free agent at the end of the season,
cheers,
YNWA

Not critisizing the OP however a few months back and last year there was a lot of critisism of Jones before he had played a real first team game. As an Aussie, you tend to keep an eye on Aussie players, especially when they play for your club, and I remember him at Boro where I thought he showed promise, that hopefully he is now fullfilling. My point being, like Lucas, we are very quick to critisise players without due process and time. Maybe we should try doing the same with Nuri and Hendo and Allen? I am not saying that we have to like them or that they are free from critisism but rather lets give them time before we make our full judgement.

Eds, you have been asked about this name before but was wondering if anything has changed with Aleksandr Kokorin? You have mentioned previously he turned down BPL this summer and unlikely to move in January. Do you know who he turned down this summer? Is he any more likely to move in January now? Think he would be a good fit for what Liverpool need.

do you eds know of interest in rodrigo think he's at sporting but don't know much about him is he any good?

Was he the player loaned to I think Bolton a couple of seasons ago, not a bad player and young. I think he now has a heavier price tag as becoming highly rated.

Hey ed, I busted wondered if we are still looking at Amero? I think he would be very useful can play anywhere up the left flank, likewise his fellow countryman Zuniga.. I also remember interest in Mbokyani before he moved to Anderlecht, is he still someone we are looking at

12 Nov 2012 18:39:43
Eds rumours are gathering pace that Marin is up for sale despite only joining in the summer as he has not had much game time and that Chelsea want to re coup the £7m they payed for him, so surely we could be interested at that price as his wages are £50,000 per week he is only 23 yrs old and a German international and also fits in with the FSG policy.

To all the people who are bashing our midfield players like Sahin, Allen etc. Because of Lucas injury our midfield is a little out of balance with players used in positions they are not used to since Lucas is our only CDM. When we have all our midfield players available. The 3 of Lucas, Allen and Suso is the best combination with others adding depth. I know Rodgers will most definitely start Lucas and Allen when fit and i hope he have balls to drop Gerrard and play Suso there. U will notice he looks completely different player when played there in last 2 matches. If we use this combination most of the teams wouldn't even touch the ball for awful lot of games.

Buy a new goal scoring striker in Jan and play Sterling and Suarez around him, u will get goals. If possible buy another attacker either in Jan or Summer getting rid of Downing and Cole and add depth with Borini and Assaidi. I feel our defense is good with Sama able to replace Carra and making Enrique a 2nd choice left back and giving Robinson the right to make LB his own.

AJ

Spot on

B O H

Br shudve bought dembele instead of allen, we needed a strong holding caracter and not ball losing caracter in the midle of the gamep

To the 'shudve' troll, I wouldnt class Dembele as a holding midfielder, Allen was not brought in to be a holding midfielder, Allen, despite a few too many misses of late, has an outstanding pass rate. So....your input is actually what? Have fun under the bridge.

Andy K

Look at allen he loses the ball too much and when he does he can not catch up with the play he also is responsible for us doing too much passing .what does he do

A subject at work as a lot of us are reds, is if you had to pick a starting 11 with the players from when rafa first started, to current day, who would get in your side?

I went with

Reina
Finnan Hyypia Carra Riise

Kuyt Alonso Didi Gerrard

Suarez Torres

Was tough between mascherano and Didi tbh and I'm guessin I missed someone obvious but thought I'd get the ball rolling

Not a rumour just a passing comment. Did anyone notice that no one went and celebrated with Suarez yesterday?

I thought it was strange since we had just equalised against the European champions. I though he even looked surprised. Everyone else just trotted back to let Chelsea kick off!

Maybe just a coincidence but hope not to ever see that!

Haha they just went off to celebrate with Carra because its his first part in a goal in 3 years! :)

Why re-word a post that's been done twice already. Are you hoping for it to become a story?

Eds.i personally think judge rodgers and the team after 15 games if we could get 4wins out of next 4 games gives Us 24 points from 15 games i know its a tough ask but wigan, swansea, spurs, soton shld be beatable and confidence whld be Good ön a 10 game unbeaten run goin into dec stay positive is what i say whats your views lads ynwa

Fergie got 5 years and Rodgers gets 15 games? When will we learn?

Andy K

I just want him to do well, we have to support him but he is not what we expected but he can get better he just needs a bit of luck with his next transfers and keep away from players he has worked with before i.e the likes of allen and borini (hope they realise what they owe br and step it up for him)

I saw BR's comments about bettering an 8th place finish and I'm curious to know if anyone know's how well this is going down with the owners? 8th wasn't good enough for Kenny. I understand the wage bill is in a better place but once again Liverpool invested substantially in the transfer market, before anyone goes on about Dempsey I'm referring to net spending compared across Europe. Are the owners tempering their expectations or is this a PR spin to try to lower fan expectation and pressure?

There's 2 paths to success. The quick fix involves massive investment and a bit of a gamble. They tried that with Kenny and it didn't work.
Rodgers is using the slow one step at a time approach. They won't be judging Bren this season.

12 Nov 2012 20:06:31

A fresh perspective:

For me. As the eds can confirm, I've been critical if Bren and I still don't agree that he is any better than King Kenny or that he is the Messiah. I suppose I'm still hurting from the incredulous decision to sack King Kenny. It WAS a dreadful mistake by the self confessed football newbies who own the club. But they've made that mistake, as a club we have to move on and this is my moment of realisation.
What made King Kenny so great when he first returned as caretaker boss was the repeated mantra :

THE CLUB NEEDS TO GET EVERYONE PULLING IN THE SAME DIRECTION.

I've not been pulling in the same direction I've been blaming Bren for FSG's fecklessness. That is in itself disrespectful to the King's message. So this is my own rallying call to other sceptics and people still pining for Kenny. Get behind the club, lets have everyone pulling in the same direction as Kenny taught us. Let that be his legacy and respect his wisdom.

As for Bren, I've realised he's on a journey. This great club has taken a battering over the last 28 years, from Heysel to Hillsbrough, to Hicks and Gillett. It's taken these massive events to grind the club down from it's lofty perch to where it is today. Similarly, it will take a massive rebuild to get us back to where we were. This is Bren's remit, to rebuild us as Shankly built us from scratch.
It will take time, patience and everyone pulling in the same direction. As the Justice for the 96 campaign shows us, the fans acting as one are capable of extraordinary things.
Lets unite and will the team on. As we did in the past when we sucked the ball in the net.

A reformed Red

Well said mate . I am a big fan of BR and believe he is the man to rebuild . But let's remember king kenny brought the stability we needed at a very low point in this clubs past . Lets hope we have been at the lowest point and are now on the rise to greatness again . And your words of fans pulling in the same direction is what is needed . Glad your back on side .

YNWA

Jamesy

Great post mate.

The real AG

To be honest, I've felt just like you Reformed Red. I'm still hurting over Kenny and at first I didn't even want BR here...however.......I have grown to like the man and his philosophy.

And of course, my support for LFC comes above any personal feeling or opinion (regarding Kenny).

We have to back BR and the team all the way!

K.Bennett

13 Nov 2012 12:00:43
@ a reformed red,
i remember watching the king play, i remember him playing alongside my all time favourite lfc player ian rush, i remember him winning the double as player manager, i remember the day hillsborough happened, being 13 years old at the time round a friends house hearing it unfold, i remember the funerals he went too after, the pain and change in the man's demeanour and after him resigning after the everton game. i then embraced the joy of his return, the job he done in the first 12 months back in charge, the football that flowed but i'm also honest to say that from christmas to the end of last season in the league campaign we was diabolical and tactically exploited by top to bottom of the premier league. the players just like the end of benitez's era didn't have it in them to save their manager. the buys he chose and decided on recruiting just haven't been good enough. i will always beam about the day i went to wembley and see his/our lfc team win the carling cup, i'm happy to have paid the £300 for the ticket but i truly believe that the owners have now made the right decision for the club to let him go. whether it was right for the release of steve clarke is a different matter in my opinion but that's a different story....
i truly believe with the addition of 2 maybe 3 attacking options, the fitness and return of lucas that this current '6' league game unbeaten run that rodgers is currently on will be a very regular occurrence (just with more wins than draws).

s.p

I may well be looking into it a bit much (i often do), but no one seemed to celebrate with Suarez after he scored he even seemed to be surprised when he turned round an no one was there with him. Just seemed a bit unusual as they've been all over him for the other goals.
The camera wasn't on him for him all that long did they run to him, when they were running replays, maybe if you went to the game you could fill me in.
What you lot think?

i dont understand how we are losing 50mil a year?
the new owners cleared the dept.
we got 2 kids on the wing and 1 striker and 60% of the back up are kids too.
if we sell cole henderson downing we will spend the money coming in and simliar wages on the new players.
were are we losing all that money,i dont get it.
ed? {Ed001's Note - low income, high outgoings. It is not just players that cost money.}

Low incomes high outgoings....that's what owning a football club is all about :-) shows the owners were telling the truth for once when they said they had no clue about our club and football. Bet they wished they never bought us :-)

If you want to be at the top you need deep pockets or a great relationship with the bank manager.

He looks devastated when he turns around and no ones there

He was surprised, probably afraid that the goal was NOT given and that his team mates had gone back into position having already known that. But in reality, they just went over to congratulate Carra, who had a part in a LFC goal in the league for the first time in 3 years!

Evening all, seen a lot of Allen haters today, give the guy a break, 1 yes 1 bad game against a very good Chelsea side does not make him a bad player he has been great so far, nobody played great yesterday but we got a great Draw. I for 1 was happy, although surprised about the lack of celebration after Suarez scored (Eds any idea why nobody celebrated ?) we are now 6 unbeaten and we have a long way to go gotta be realistic 7th or better will be better than last season, gotta re build guys have a little faith with a few decent buys in January then who knows.

Team for Wigan 433
Reina
Johnson
Carragher
Agger
Enrique
Gerrard
Allen
Shelvey ( Sahin not performing)
Suso
Suarez
Sterling
Subs
Jones
Skrtel
Robinson
Sahin
Downing
Henderson
Assaidi

Hopefully Skrtel feels well enough to play. Aside from that flick on to Suarez, Carragher was shocking yesterday.

Shelvey thigh injury

Skrtel will have recovered by then and I don't see him being replaced by carra. If anyone in the midfield is not performing its Allen for me. He's had 3 or 4 games of consistently going the ball away and only passing sideways or backwards. Lucas needs to come back untill I'm happy with joe on the side.

According to reports Agger is injured, can Ed's confirm?

12 Nov 2012 17:38:48
I think its time for us to give that arm band to Suarez coz ATM he's the only one who can carry on the team..Gerrard wont be saving us most times, its time to relieve him

Given the whole Evra debacle, and the fact he has a very weak grasp of English, I cannot see how that would work. Personally I'd like to see Lucas or Agger take the armband next after Gerrard. They've both proved time and time again they are LFC through and through.

JFT 96

JP

Talking about kicking a man for no good reason

If Luis got the armband do you not think he would end up more often then not fighting with the ref?

Also luis is no leader Gerrard is a born one!

I would say give it to Agger. Or Lucas when fit, both are vocal and never gives up.

The Rob.

Totally agree that's why Ajax made him captin good shout you don't need to be captin at 32 maybe the ego change will do stevie the world of good

You have an interesting idea of what a captain does. Suarez is a fantastic player, but he's not the kind of player that's going to inspire the others, help them up their game, or the kind to calm down a situation, or deal with the refs, all key parts of a captain's job! Maybe leave Suarez to be Suarez, and keep Gerrard as captain!

JammyRed

Luis isn't a leader? That's ridiculous.

BthekingB

Shouldn't be even debating the subject until he retires

Suarez has done it at ajax, and it doesnt need english to lead.....does he score in uruguayan..not because we are in england that everything should be english''.....Gerrard told you that u dont need to talk much to be a leader...

Unbelievable... Obviously never played! It doesn't go to the man who saves us with flair it goes to the inspirational leader... that IS Gerrard! Failing that the other LEADERS are Carragher and Reina... It's Club Captain not form player!

I'm not sure he's got the temperament for it mate, he will probably get himself sent off being a captain, you don't need to be the star of the team to be a captain but you need leadership quality Lucas is my favorite to take over.

If we give it to Lucas, we won't have a captain very injury prone now, nothing wrong with gerrard as captain so there should be no talk about changing captains, it's not an issue, well not yet anyway!! When it becomes available I would give it to shelvey, he will be a born leader in 2-3 years

13 Nov 2012 12:01:07
Lol @ "I would give it to shelvey, he will be a born leader in 2-3 years"

I guess Shelvey is currently the 'unborn' then!

i think BR should be given time , we dont have a full squad of experienced players , we are playing with 1 striker , and a few teenagers , now if it was any other team that went to chelsea and got a draw and also could have won it at the end then everyone would be saying they done well , i think some fans are being to hard on a manager that can change a game and is not scared to play the kids , and yes he had a choice , imagine downing instead of sterling or cole instead of suso , we have players who have lost form and confidence and also our injury list is bad , even suarz is 1 yellow from a ban , BR has had 1 transfer window and not a lot of money to spend , he's had to trim the wages and we have lost players who had the quality and experience to get goals , as of yet BR has not had the chance to replace them , kuyt ,maxi and bellamy were big losses and yet to be replaced by the same quality , the owners left him high and dry in the last window so he has had to use what is at the club , even rafa had a lot more money than BR , but you dont here BR moaning about money or the lack of it , if we spent over a 100 mill and bought mediocre players then all the moaning would be justified , joe allan has had 2 bad games , seeing its is 1st season with us its not that bad , sahin as not played well but in the past he has scored so he can get better , if not get rid off him , we have lucas to come back and that will give us more cover in midfield , i think with the team we have at the moment we are doing well and has he as said we need a few more players to make the team better , something we all know , look at last january we needed a striker then and we never got one , everton did and he has scored the goals that have won everton the games and he is still scoring , he wanted to come to us but we never went in for him , if we did the goals he is scoring for everton would be goals for us , lets just hope we get a striker who will get us goals and will help suarez because thats my fear , i think if we dont get a quality striker he will want to leave , the owners need to back BR in january to show the fans that they mean buisness

BR is a good manager, he showed he is willing to change tactics during a game which hasn't been the case with many of our previous stubborn managers.

I think he can do well for us, but we cannot expect him to win us the league or get us into top 4 on a shoestring budget that FSG have given him.

IMO it will be them to blame and not Brenden if we fail.

What a load of waffle

BR only changed tactics because he picked the wrong tactics from the start of the game

Cut Ed002 some slack, despite being unfortunate enough to be a Chelsea supporter, he is one of the most fair and unbiased Eds...he is exactly the same to the Chelsea supporters as to us, and as far as I am aware has never slagged us off on their page, nor joined in any negative banter regarding us, unlike Ed025 on the Everton page. He does a great, honest job, tells LFC supporters to stop dreaming when they are being unrealistic, but also tells the Chelsea supporters exactly how it is. The fact he supports Chelsea doesn't matter as long as we aren't getting false information as a result, and were not, so it's all good :-)

PS I am aware that as older posts suggest Ed002 might be a girl, however I really could not be bothered to type he/she every time, plus it makes Ed002 sound transgender...so sorry Ed if you are female and I kept referring to you as 'he', and if not, sorry for the speculation!

I don't see the relevance here. Ed002 provides accurate information when he/she becomes aware. I say accurate because even if the rumours don't come to fruition based on the complexity of the scenarios, there is always substance to them. I also can appreciate the unbiased view towards Liverpool.

Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Rodgers Eyeing Walcott, Sturridge, and Huntelaar for January Swoop.(source: Football Sky Portal).

I very much doubt Huntelaar. The others are a possibility.

Walcott will score the occasional goal.

The problem is Liverpool's purchasing policy.

The whole management structure looks chaotic.

The league position in January might focus a few minds.

Red 'Q'

Spot on, many seem to think that we are still a club who can attract anyone, simply not the case these days.

FSG have shown no ambition in terms of transfers so why would any potential players feel we are heading in the right direction towards CL.

We will more likely see quality outgoings than in comings .

Sad state of affairs, wish FSG would just go as any person coul run te club as they are by only investing what is made. Better owned by the fans a then atleast we could blame ourselves if we have no money to spend.

Blame ourselves when Liverpool go into administration followed by bankruptcy followed by disappearing forever.
How are the fans going to make up the 50m difference per year the club currently loses and is absorbed by the owners.
Let's leave it to people who know what they are doing eh.

MIKEY

Sigh... FSG have spent a lot of money on managers and players (certainly quite a bit more than most of the teams above us anyway).

'FSG have shown no ambition in terms of transfers' ...So who sanctioned that 100 million Kenny spend then?

Well we wont be having to pay of £40 million stadium designs every year. So that will help.

12 Nov 2012 16:41:00
Hello Ed's and All,
My thoughts to put some perspective on the season so far and to hopefully put a positive spin on things. This IS a season of transition, like it or lump it “ it's where we are but I don't feel that it is all doom and gloom.
We all agree that everything has not been perfect: - the transfer window was a bit of a cock up; We desperately need another striker; A couple of other positions need to be filled (I'm not going to say who / where because I'm not the manager and I don't know enough about football to know who would fit and where to best improve the team).
That said we have had a share of bad luck and decisions this year. You could argue that if only a few of the decisions were reversed we would be at least 4 points better off (Man Utd. and Everton).
There have also been some silly mistakes “ Man City cost us another 2 points plus probably another 2-4 points from mistakes in other games.
However I don't want to dwell on what if's but rather to point out some positives.
We are unbeaten in 6 and the youngsters have all done exceptionally well. We have Lucas back soon plus Borini (please don't slate him, this is not about whether you like a player or not but some positive reflection and forethought). Lucas we know is now quality and we haven't honestly seen enough of Borini to judge just yet.
Now to who we have played, I have included the table below which shows the current league position of the teams we have so far played.
Played League Position
Man Utd h 1-2 1
Man City h 2-2 2
Chelsea a 1-1 3
Everton a 2-2 4
West Brom a 0-3 5
Arsenal h 0-2 8
Newcastle h 1-1 10
Stoke h 0-0 12
Norwich a 5-2 15
Sunderland a 1-1 16
Reading h 1-0 18

In 11 games under the new regime we have played the current top 5 in the league plus side 8, 10 and 12. Our next 9 games, which sees out 2012, are as follows: -

Next 9 Games League Position
Wigan h 14
Swansea a 11
Spurs h 7
Southampton h 19
West Ham a 6
Villa h 17
Fulham h 9
Stoke a 12
QPR a 20

So in order that's team currently placed 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 17, 19 and 20.

We have pretty much played the top third of the league so far “ teams placed 1 to 5 plus if you include Arsenal and Newcastle on last year's form. That's 7 out of the 11 games we have played.

I could be wrong but I doubt very much if any other team has played so many of the current top sides in the league. Maybe if someone has more time than me they could produce a list of who has already played who in the league.

Yes we lie 13th in the league with only 2 wins and 12 points but yet we are only 8 points from fourth place and across the rest of the league only 9 points separate 4th to 15th.

A home win against Everton would see us cut that 8 point margin to only 5 points and Everton still have to play Arsenal, Man City, Spurs and Chelsea before the end of the year and they have to play these sides twice before the season ends.

I'm not saying all is perfect but I do think we may be in far better shape than the stats and results show. With our current limitations and the teams we have played we are not too badly off. A good run of results could see the table change dramatically especially with the sides other teams still have to play.

We have had encouraging performances and signs that the football is improving (City, Utd, Chelsea for example).

Apologies for the long post but I think we are in better shape than it appears. True we need to keep improving, sign the right players in January (ship the wrong ones out “ we all know who) and hope for a little luck to run our way. I'm not saying we'll get top four or that Brendan Rodgers is the right manager or all the players are right - but 11 games (against the teams we have played) is still early in the season to say all is desperate and everything is wrong.

So for now let's get behind everyone at Liverpool Football Club, Shout and Support them proudly and loudly.

We are Liverpool FC “ We shall never walk alone.

Irish Red Dog

Well put lad
derryred

I could not agree more irish red , some fans dont realise who we have played and how unlucky we have been , its seem as you have pointed out that we are getting punished very hard for any mistake we make , as in leading to goals , skertals back pas , and agger yesterday , but like you i think we are doing well considering whats happend this season , how many other teams can go to chelsea and play with 1 striker and a few teenagers and come away with a draw but which could easily have been a win , if suaez had a good touch to go around the goalie or if enrique would have scored , thats was after BR changing the system and making a sub when needed , sahin would be better coming off the bench and suso should be starting , were are that unlucky that their goal came out of another mistake when the ball hit the ref that led to the corner , anyway i think BR is the right man and will turn it around ,

If the stories are true about Charlie Austin then i really think we should take a punt on him for around £4m - £6m ,he has got 20 months or so to run on his contract is 23 yrs old, certainly knows where the goal is and is British so fits the policy, and potentially a good sell on value, if we don't snap him up then he will end up in the epl either way with someone else.

BigD

BigD, obviously my post has beeen removed for reasons. I agree he would be a good signing. My source confirmed Arsenal may become interested in the player if other moves dont materialize. As you say, he would be a affordable aswell as young!

Also, if you didnt read my response to the 2 strikers from Spain BigD i responded by saying i wasnt told who they were, just that we were/are interested in 2 strikers from La Liga. The player on loan im guessing could be David Villa in which he rejected us and the Perminent deal could be Soldado which we have been priced out of. Again that would be me guessing!

Apples ;96;

Im confused Ed, I have been coming on here a long time now and I keep seeing people go on about this buying British policy?
I am aware of the requirement to have so many home grown players in the squad, but I obviously missed the club statement on buying British?
May I suggest over the last 2 years this has not been followed as well as it should be.
It has taken some deep research on my behalf but I have found the following information..
Poulson, Suarez, Enrique, Adam, Texeria, Assaidi, Borrini, Coats, Sahin and Yesil, believe it or not do not qualify as British players under the rules!!
I imagine at this point Ed you are shocked as was I, but then after further investigation going even further back I have found out the following..
Brad Jones, Agger, Pacheco, Leiva, Rena, Suso, Doni, Skrtel and Gulacsi are actually not British!
There is some good news however, due to the age of some of these players and by sheer luck the rules mean they qualify as British, as do our Welsh players.
Well Ed, as you can imagine my belief that the owners know exactly what they are doing has taken a knock here.
So if you could possibly send me a link to where it was stated we have a buy British policy Ed, I will reference it when I inform the club that there have been some terrible mistakes made, lets hope it's not to late to put things right, Im guessing nobody else has noticed there not British yet.

May I offer my congratulations to Lionel Messi for breaking the record of most goals scored in a calendar year. A truly exeptional player, and a pleasure watching him and his side.

Rafa's Purple Goatie

Your congratulations are a bit too soon, messi has beaten pele's record, he still needs 10 more to beat Gerd Müller record who scored 85 in one calendar year, but I'm quite sure he will do it.

I swear the record is held by muller who scored 85 goals. Messi is on 76 isn't he? If I'm wrong then apologies.

I see that Javier Hernandez is trying to claim the Vlaar own goal on Saturday. I have no objections to that as the defender couldn't get out of the way even though it was not on target. If it is awarded by the Dubious Goals Panel then I hope that they take into account that the Baines own goal in the Everton game should be awarded to Luis Suarez as well.

Seeing as Gerrard had his goal against Norwich chalked off and awarded as an OG by the dubious goals panel, I'd be surprised of Hernandez was awarded that one

wake up people br is not going to do anything. we dont seem any better than we did last season. whatever is going on at lfc its the blind leading the blind. the owners dont have a clue and have now put a manger in who is way over his head. come on we all know what football is about its about results not draws or loseing. we are 13th in the prem and dont look like go up anymore. what i would like to know is will you br lovers still want him in the job if he finishs lower than 8th

U r a joke what's he meant to do he's playing 3 teenagers we've had bad injuries to Lucas, borini Kelly and reina. He's had one transfer window. Give him the 3 years then judge him Liverpool supporters are so deluded Liverpool are now a mid table team we've got 1 world class player in the team. A ageing and trying Gerrard. We're unbeaten in 6 played both Manchester clubs arsenal Chelsea and Everton in 11 tough games. He hasn't had time or chance to replace some senior players who chipped in with vital goals like kuyt Bellamy and maxi give him January and next summer for him to get the players in capable of playing the football he wants then 2 years to see how he's progressed no matter who the manager is without Chelsea and man city money this is the way it is. Spending wisely bringing through youngsters and staying out of debt

I wonder what Brendan will do with pepe reina when he's back fit.

Arsenal always sell their top players.

From Anelka to Nasri to RVP Wenger always sells. If Giroud continues scoring lots and lots of goals he'll be on everyone's radar knowing about £25 million would do it.

why dont we sign elhabsi he is from the same land as me and we are freinds. i think he will cost around10 mil as he is the best keeperin the prem = hey boys dont hate just my opinion

Al Habsi is good, not outstandingly top class, but very good. Personally, i think £10 million on a 30 year old keeper would be criminal when Reina cost 7 million at 24 and he has that top class ability.

The goalie who used to play for us from Hungry or Bulgaria who is now at F.C. Twente would be a better buy for a lot less money and at a much younger age in my opinion, he's been in terrific form since he left for the Netherlands to get games.

Also Al Habsi seems very settled and happy at Wigan, he's content with his place in the team and he's loving life at Wigan. He recently said to the papers he doesn't care about interested teams, he loves Wigan athletic.

As a goalkeeper you can play until you are in your late 30's. a 30 year old goalkeeper is the equivalent of buying a 25 year old outfielder.

Hi Ed, wasn't a great game yesterday but was happy with the point. A point against the best side in premier league(at least on paper) was good for me. Di matteo has proved me wrong I though he would be the first one to get sacked but my mistake. A question for Ed and fellow reader - The Chelsea squad is blessed with the best individual talents(even better than Man city or utd) and any one would love to have those players in their team. I just want to know did we ever had a chance to sign onyone of the players Chelsea have (apart from Torres) or will we ever be able to sign the players like Mata Hazard Oscar Marin.
I might sound stupid to some but was just discussing with someone that we cannot attract similar world class talents to Anfield so want to get your opinion on that
Thanks in advance

Shelvey hasn't scored goalS, at least not in the league. He has scored goal, singular. He is also a graduate of the Charlie Adam School of Reckless Tackling. Lastly, he never uses apostrophes or word spaces.

Next 11 PL games before we will dabble in the transfer market - Wigan, Swansea, Spuds, Southampton, West Ham, Villa, Fulham, Stoke, QPR & Sunderland. All of these winnable games - spuds without Modric, King, Van Der Vart & Harry at the helm are half of where they were last year so that game is vital to come away with at least a point.
Pepe, Skyrtel & Lucas will be back soon to boost the team and squad.
We have had a tough start but also unlucky along the way. The offside goal which should have been allowed v Everton, the horrid back pass vs ManCity, the wonder goal by Newcastle & Shelveys red card v Utd. This could have been the difference between 12 points and 21 points!
We are moving in the right direction and the emergence of Sterling, Suso & Wisdom will ensure we continue to move in the right direction.
I still have high hopes of a top 4 finish with the poor performances from out closest rivals Arsenal Spuds & Newcastle. Everton will come unstuck along the way (hopefully) and with Suarez in our team we do have the potential to still grab that elusive 4th spot.

Wigan - bogey team (draw)
Swans - taught us a lesson in cup (heavy loss)
Spurs - miles better than us at moment (heavy loss)
Saints - 3 points
Hammers - Carroll to score winner (loss)
Villa - 0-0 draw
Fulham - draw at best
Stoke away - loss
QPR - 3 points
Sunderland - 3points.

Gives us 24 points from 20 games.
More like bottom 4 than top 4 and worse than Hodgson.

I don't like predicting scores against the so called 'weaker teams' (I got my fingers burst there last year with Wigan, Swnasea, Nowrich etc!)

But one point on the second post above.... Surely to God, we have put some kinda clause in the loan contract that Carroll can't line out against us this season? We couldn't be that reckless? Any info ed?

Macko

Wigan - 2-0 win
Swansea - 1-1 draw
Spurs 2-2 draw
Southampton 3-2 win
West ham 2-1 win
Villa 3-0 win
Fulham 2-1 loss
Stoke 1-0 loss
Qpr 3-1 win
Sunderland 1-0 win

20 points from 30 there and i think that is quite fair

BthekingB

Wigan - rubbish team (5-0 win)
Swans - (4-0 win)
Spurs - no way better than us at moment (4-0 win)
Saints - 3 points (probably win about 7-0)
Hammers - Carroll can't play so he will be unable to score winner (make that a 6-0 win)
Villa - 6-0 win
Fulham - 5-0 win
Stoke away - 4-0 win
QPR - 3 points (will be looking for a 9-0 win here)
Sunderland - 3points ( 8-0 win and Suarez to score all 8)

See I can make ridiculous predictions aswell.

Kev.

There doesn't need to be a loan clause - it is not allowed by the EPL!
DM2012

Carroll can't play against us. Next (doom) prediction please

Home games:

Wigan - win
Saints - win
Villa - win
Fulham - win

Id expect maximum points against those 4 teams so 12 outta 12

Away games:

Swansea - draw
Spurs - draw
West Ham - win
Stoke - draw
Qpr - win

9 points from a possible 15 is pretty good considering the teams we got.

So all in all if we get 21 points from an available 27 id be happy with it, as Rodgers said anything above last years finish is a step forward, i think a good season would to be finishing 5th, as the top 4 at the moment is a bit unrealistic unfortunately.

BigD

Carroll is not eligible to play against his parent club as are all loan players.

BigD

Big D

That is the general situation with loan players however clauses can be put in so that they can play against ther old club.

Kind regards

Suarez currnetly has 8 goals and 2 assits in the EPL.

This puts him top of the goalscoring chart with Van Persie.

However he wrongly had a goal disallowed for Offside against Everton, and two disallowed penalties against Man U and Norwich.

Realistically he should be on 9 goals, 2 assists guaranteed, and potentially another 2 goals/assists for the penalties he should've won for someone else/taken himself.

He is the best forward in the league, and he has scored more points than any other player in fantasy football and dream team!

YNWA! (Adam)

P.S. Editor, in my recent reply to a post about Joe Allen, we both know I didn't write 'persons' ;) {Ed002's Note - I have no idea - it is changed by the swear-o-thon.}

Hi Eds great site this weekend.

I just want to say that I still see progress in the team.I for one am quite happy that we played poorly and got away with it .That was probably our worst performance since the Arsenal game and we looked a much tougher nut to crack despite having half the squad Chelsea do .

We did'nt play at all well at all 1st half and still came away with a draw .

Some people are never happy , we play well and don't get a positive result - people start crying .

We then get a positive result without playing well and -the same people still start crying.

I agree that certain individuals did not play well but a draw at Chelsea should not be sniffed at .I think people should be prepared as I am for a long hard season . I think BR actually got the tactics spot on but unfortunately our midfield didnt turn up until the second half.

We are starting to show a bit of backbone and importantly starting to defend properly , if we manage to get a striker in January that can hit the ground running then I think we will defo be in the hunt for Europe.Things are on the up .

You can only play with the hand that has been dealt- keep the faith

As much i hate to admit it, its gotta be said that gary neville has turned out to be a great TV pundit. He adds abit more character to the panel which never really seen from him as a player. Hes very unbiased so although i hated him 10 out of 10 as a player i gota say i now only hate him 5 out of 10 lol.

YNWA1984

He is a good pundit. He still looks like a rat though.

He looks like the 4th member of the jam in that suit.

You know what - I've said the same thing about his punditry!

How long will Borini be out for? And do we really need him with Suarez up front? Do we really need him?

I think it's quite clear that he will improve. he is hungry and he has good sense. have you seen some of the runs that he has made this season? all this being said, i still can't get over the fact that we let maxi, bellamy and kuyt go in the same window.

12 Nov 2012 12:42:46
Will Rodgers be scraping around the bargain basement this Jan or will FSG be backing him for realistic targets within our wage structure? also, is the pending Stadium rebuild having a huge impact on what FSG will release for transfers? we all know the wage bill has been slashed, money has been incoming elsewhere i.e sponsors etc, is this being used to fund the Stadium re-build? {Ed002's Note - FSG will continue to support the manager within reason. Money is not aportioned to anything in particular when it arrives. That is really not how the finances work.}

Dear admin
Can I know why exactly,Assaidi has never given a proper chance to play yet....Have you answered this question?I tried to search but couldnt get it, Do you know why,and cant assaidi play on right wing ,because Sterling is taking over the left side, but still why? I have heard some mates sayin that,he will be used as the cover for Suarez till january,as there no striker left for lfc...is it true??

FaZZy {Ed002's Note - It may come as a surprise but I don't pick the team that plays. He is a squad player but if you want him starting league games you need to drop a note to Brendan Rodgers c/o the club.}

12 Nov 2012 12:38:15
given Newcastles almost incredible recent flurry's in the French Market, they seem interested in moussa sissoko on a pre contract, are we looking at this option too? and for that matter is anyone else other than Newcastle ?

Also eds, who are the most realistic Striker targets this Jan? Austin? Huntelaar? Lloriente? or none of the mentioned?

12 Nov 2012 12:31:22
People slate FSG for lack of spending and blame everything on owners reality is they backed Rodgers with 35M+ and guess what it was wasted as usual.

Borin-10M+ hasn't contributed anything

Allen-16M+ hasn't contributed anything

Assaidi-3M+ hasn't contributed anything

Sahin-5M+(1 year loan) hasn't contributed anything

Yesil-1M for Future

Giving Rodgers more money will be mistake as he will buy more Mediocrity and Liverpool will be in big trouble. Ed2 mate in your opinion how can we progress after owners money being wasted every then and now any suggestion mate

Put it another way, the same as Dalglish spent on Carroll, or in Rafa's case less than he spent on Aquilani (£17m) and Keane (£19m).

Puts things into perspective hey!

Red Flag Flyer

I have a suggestion go and support City.

Tom.

Borini - only played a handful of games before getting injured still under 22 yrs, definitely will improve

Allen - one of our better performers this season. still under 22 yrs, has gerrard and lucas to learn from. definitely will continue to improve

assaidi - only used in the cup, very solid performer. under 25 yrs, once given a run will give us something special down the wings

Sahin - when we got him on loan he'd just come back from a long injury and only played 5 or so games with Madrid, looks like hes starting to click but expect his performances to improve greatly over the next month.

Yesil - not a factor so far. definitely one for the future.

Only disagree with yesil and assaidi..can see a future in them cost total of 5 mil?
boroni...no idea..
allen 16 mill..lookign for a future?
sahin...may be good in dortumand...looked horrible in EPL...

Theres no point answering this post, he only see's a player as "contributing" if he scores.
When managers and pundits say our club have knowledgeable fans, they might want to look on here some times.

12 Nov 2012 16:32:06
After kenny Rodgers was one of the biggest mistake by FSG they will never learn. Rodgers will never improve us and we are 13 in league. FSG mistakes are killing thise great club. They are doing mistakes after mistakes.

That's a bit unfair by the above poster kenny Rodgers may have made mistakes but he has also made some classic country & western tracks
Paisley's genius

12 Nov 2012 17:13:09
That kenny Rodgers should stick to his country music he has no right meddling in our football club

Can't say anything about kenny rodgers singing, he's one of the best.

I largely disagree with the op regarding player assessments. However, I think there is something to the point that fans should lay off FSG a little regarding finances. They have consistently invested in the club, for those that disagree please look at net spending compared across Europe.

Any idea how much Dzecko would cost?
Been saying for ages that I really rate him and would love us to sign him.
Leads the line really well, knows how to score, maybe doesn't like his current situation of only being a sub for every game.
The guy is quality and if we can get him for £20m or less then he should be considered. {Ed002's Note - Search function please.}

No chance...25 mill and 160k wages..
should ship downing and henderson to get his wage which is quiet practical for me..
he would score goals more than downing and hendo combined in thwir whole life in siglle season..

Do you really think that Downing and Henderson's wages combine to 160,000 a week? Not to mention the substantial transfer fee.

12 Nov 2012 12:26:32
Im hearing Lucas could be back in contention for the Swansea game maybe the if that's a push the Spurs game. I think he will need a few games to get back up to speed no doubt!

When he does return our midfield will work so much better with Gerrard and Allen able to push further forward but also it will allow for both of these to be dropped for a game if not performing or they need a rest with either Suso, Shelvey or Sahin put in.

Cant wait till he is back, and then the next date will be the January transfer window - New striker please don't care who it is at this point, just someone to put the ball in the net apart from Suarez!

YNWA JFT96 jns

ps People asking why Stevie has been inconsistent - IMO he's playing too deep due to Lucas been out, id expect to see more from him including goals when Lucas returns.

No doubt Lucas will return and possibly not perform too well in his early games. This will provoke the usual posters to say he is total crap and should be sold immediately. It is amazing how one game can totally change the attitude of some people. Allen is rubbish, Sahin can't cope, Enrique was rubbish last week but is OK this week, Carra was ready for the knackers yard last week, Gerrard is past it and so on. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but some degree of balance would be welcome. Does one bad game for a player always have to mean the end? No player performs wonderfully every time he walks out on to the pitch.
Kev1950

The only person i missed most at the bridge was lucas..
boy...he is 1000 better than mikel and ramirez combined..
with him..gerrard and suso would have ripped chelseas asses..
how much we are missing him..

Singred you are a total muppet. Did you really say Allen marked Ramires and torres out the game were you born in a barn.Allen has been one our worst players this season. He is swansea standard not liverpool. He looked way out of he's depth can't pass, can't shoot or score, has no vision,Really can't defend, can't mark opponents, cant tackle, can't cross, is very small and lightweight, gets bullied off the ball, can't read play, gives away the ball many times in every game. He would not get in most championship teams. Singred you are deluded watching another game i think. 16 Million is a joke. Borini could not find the net with a sat nav is he even worth 5 million let alone 10.Sahin might as well go back to madrid because then PL is to physical for him.BR spent the money on total crap look at the table.

You my friend are a tool simply, i bet your also think liverpool should have messi ronaldo and falcao all on 10k a week and be winning the premiership on merit?

Yes, total muppet springs tp mind but possibly not the accused my friend.

Oh and well done for signing

I have studied body language, speech and the written word. My assessment of your post is that you were never involved in sports at school? Maybe you were overweight or just lazy maybe you were bullied. You have never found it easy to make friends and are given to sudden outbursts of emotion when things don't evolve to your liking.
kidmillions (trickcyclist)

To the unsigned poster above, i would say you are the muppet, don't know if you go the game but Allen has been one of our best and most consistant performers this season, i would agree he did not have a good game against Chelsea on Sunday but lay of the lad, as for other signings, just give them until the end of the season then make a judgement.

Red Ant.

There's only one muppet here my friend.

Nick

You my friend are deluded... if BR made the tea you'd say the milk was off. Wake up mate! Allen started off great and yes hasnt quite carried it on with every game but he is 22! Allen is goinng to be a cracker and is definately worth a place now!

12 Nov 2012 13:00:31
Spot on mate we could buy Remy insted of Allen. Just imagine Suarez and Remy up front they would cause havoic for opposition deffenders I'm really woried about january coz Rodgers will continue buying mediocore players and will be in big trouble FSG are no Abramovich any money we get we need to spend properly. I think we need some one who can help rodgers urgently before things get worse.

This is embarrassing to read! I do hope you're not a Liverpool supporter.

12 Nov 2012 13:10:00
cant read play? he has the most interceptions out of any lfc player by far

So, all in all you are a bit undecided about the new lads then?

Puzzled

Mate you are the muppet here, it's easy to slam players, look at the knobheads who now idolise Lucas, hang you're head plastic.
Allen when he came immediately settled in and carried us first 3/4 matches, yes agreed the lad has had a come down to earth period but look at the other elements, balls he's been given slammed into his pressence and some of the mediocre players around him not even on his wavelength dont refuse to move "into space" cannot help.. in the long run you'll eat these words you spit now, trust me.. the lad is class and once we play as a team and not as 11 players who don't believe they can win and sit back all game you will have a different view. YES we are in turnmoil at mo, no doubt this great club will rise again with so many promising youngsters, of course this could take until im 40 but it will come like anything else you wait for. Maybe not under FSG or Rodgers but the blueprint is there 100%, I get as frustrated as anyone seeing us not believing we can go and batter the rentboys because when we actually tried yesterday, last 20mins we cut them open 2 4 5 times in specific areas. Borini is Young also and a struggling team isnt the best way to settle and showcase you're talents but dicks like you see the short term we want to play like Barca and have players justify price tags, remember they arnt in control of what the moneymen spend of them.. he wasnt bad at swansea who recently tore us a apart and that is a harsh reflection on where we r as team and club atm so be positive mate. Players have outside lifes also and can have a bad day, who knows whats going on? Allen recently became a daddy, maybe a few late nights? just keep you're uneducated comments to yourself pal cos ppl like you bring this club down.

Seems my friend you are the muppet. what a riddculous post.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. allen has in fact been one of our very best players this season, bar the last two or three games, where he has admittedly been playing below par. i never thought i'd see allen give the ball away or get dispossessed, but he has not been his usual impeccable self the last two games.

to be honest, though, this isn't entirely his fault, and you have to take a good look at the rest of the team. remember thatt he's playing a deeper role than he's used to (allen is not a makalele), and in a sluggish team where nobody makes runs or makes themselves available for passes, it seems that everybody has to hold on to the ball for longer than they should have to. however badly he plays though, he has never run away from responsibility. and for that he should be commended.

he is capable of playing incisive forward passes, he is capable of playing quick pass and move football and he is also capable of playing longer range passes than we are used to seeing from him. when lucas comes back we'll see him playing a bit further up the field.

i don't know, i'm very glad that joe allen is a liverpool player, and i'm sure that i'm not alone on this.

Fine - Allen wasn't marking Torres (I was quite sure he was tracking him on a few occasions) but if you had the ball and was looking for options but found non, what would you do? You keep the ball as best you can and find support, which was not forthcoming from Gerrard and Sahin, who were both very defensive.

Allen job wasn't easy, but he stuck to his DM role and even got forward a couple of occasions.

It's okay you don't appreciate players like Allen and Borini. In fact I'll bet you are one of those who constantly abused Lucas before he came good. 'Fans' the like of you only know how to criticise - you clearly have an agenda against Rodgers and his methods. If I'm a muppet, what are you? I know - Plastic

Singred

To the posters who share my belief that Allen and Borini will come good, thank you.

Singred

Stay off the hallucinogens while watching games. it's giving you hallucinations of muppet-like proportions... ra1969

Lol. We could've bought Remy instead and played him a center mid, good one!

davethebutcher

Think someone touched a nerve.

Allen is a good player but his last 3/4:games he's been dire. He seems to be lightweight and easily bullied off the ball. His short passes to the side and rear show him as a tidy player but makes him lack imagination and that makes him NOT a 'wow' player.

Wow , I have to hand it to both of you above you seem passionate .........

12 Nov 2012 12:17:58
They say you never stop learning and this season I have finally realised how important the defensive midfielder role is , especially in a 4-3-3 with attacking full backs .

Our club chose to enter the new season with only one DM on the books , I don't criticise them for that decision in view of the finances . but he was returning from long term injury , looked shaky in pre-season and was quickly injured again .

Allen has performed well as a stand-in , in my opinion , but will clearly not produce his Swansea form until he is released further up the park .

Most people would say , I think , that DM is not a priority position for the January window , but I disagree , even if Lucas is fully fit , just my opinion .

You're absolutely right, the 'midfield destroyer' position is pretty much the MOST important position in rodgers' set-up. the whole team was pretty much bullied in midfield yesterday, with skrtel and lucas out the team had close to no steel in the lineup. thank goodness for enrique, then

12 Nov 2012 12:15:49
Hey ed, strong reports in Bulgaria that Liverpool will be taking back Nikolay Mihaylov - one of the local medias claims that, according to his agent, he will come with a guaranteed starting place come next season. Any info or this, or is it just raise-the-prize speculation?

Drigan {Ed002's Note - I am not sure why Mihaylov would return to a club that rejected him? Then again if Liverpool are guaranteeing starting places to players now, why not. Obviously the other first team goalkeepers will all demand a transfer. It will also be near impossible to buy a back-up goalkeeper who knows that regardless of how well he plays and how poorly the other goalkeeper is doing he stands no chance of a game without injury. Sounds like a plan.}

No player has ever been guaranteed a starting place at Anfield , and none ever will be .

12 Nov 2012 11:58:41
Ed's - Sorry if this has already come up, not visited the site in a few weeks...
What is your take on the Reina situation?
I was under the impression that he is fit and has been taking place in full training for almost 2 weeks now. So what has prompted Rodgers to propmote Jones to first choice keeper of late? {Ed002's Note - There is no "Reina situation". He was a little off form before getting injured - now he is on his way back. Perhaps Brendan Rodgers took the advice of many of the fans on here and kept him out of the team?}

12 Nov 2012 11:34:49
the best thing BR did yesterday was take off Sahin the boy isent up to it, he needs to much time on the ball no wonder real madrid dident want him lets hope we dont wast any money on this lad. send him back

murton red

I wouldn't ship him back yet, but I would make sure he's watching videos about space and time on ball in the PL. I just hope he doesn't do a Morientes. He's got loads of class and abillity, would hate to think he makes it somewhere else when we've got him at the moment. If we shipped Lucas out after a year we'd be kicking ourselves. But I agree he's not looking the part right now, but the beauty is there isn't too much pressure this season to win cups etc. so he has time to get it right. Maybe the emergence of Suso will mean there's no need for Sahin, which will be a blessing in disguise and will cost absolutely zilch. Either way we'll get a fully fit top class Sahin or a developed and promising superstar in Suso, and either is fine by me. RC

So many people on this site wanting Sahin to be sent back , the phrase '' one year loan deal '' seems completely outside their comprehension .

I am not saying that Sahin is a great player but surely posters should be able to count up to one before they try to use a computer.

{Ed002's Note - A couple of weeks ago the same folks were creaming for Liverpool to buy him. Thank god they are not fickle.}

Too hasty in your assessment which renders it as unknowledgable clap trap.
kidmillions

When he has time on the ball, you can really see his class. his range of passing is really something. the problem of course is that when he needs to get stuck in and time on the ball is scarce he doesn't have anywhere near the level of aggression and tenacity to make a decent contribution. at the moiment he is looking like a bit of a luxury player, but i'm sure he is doing everything within his power to distinguish himself. i still think that he is a top shelf player. he won't go missing for too much longer, i believe.

then again i am a huge fan of his, when he played for dortmund he was a real joy to watch.

I agree with some of what has been said and maby i am being hash but i just hope we dont bye him for lots of money like we did aqulani the relies he is not good enough remember lots of people saying he was world class and should get more games right up until the day he left

12 Nov 2012 10:46:16
At some stage we're going to have consider the idea of Steven Gerrard slipping back in front of the back four; his recent performances have been lacklustre in comparison with his former glories - but what the hell do we expect when age is catching up with him. He has given the ball away so many times recently that he appears to be suffering from some sort of football hangover.

It always seems like heresy to say anything about SG but the truth is, someone (probably Brenada Rodgers) will have to make that sort of decision. It's a decision that Ferguson always makes without outward regret, but in this case, it will be a brave man to move SG down the starting order. To be fair, BR has managed to do it well with Jamie Carragher, but SG is another matter. True - it's not round the corner, but the man is slowing down and making mistakes. Still a powerhouse and still creative, but not the player he was 18 months or even a year ago.

On the player front, the media swirl around Raheem Sterling makes me think of two things: his agent is greedy or it's all just media guff. Sadly I think this is more than journalistic licence. No crystal balls here (!) but no skoke without fire on this one.

7ER

He slows the game down and gets in joe allens way..trying to do everyones job... he can't hack the new system.. I don't think holding midfielder is right for him. Him being one of our best (if not BEST finisher) we should try him in the front 3 or just behind suarez.. Gerrard has a great cross too.. TBH this is where most of liverpools problems have stemmed from... If Rodgers can't work this out then he is clue-less... why doesn't gerrard not get a look in in the forward areas? We'd get so many more goals! His best years for us were behind Torres or on the right wing under houlier.. We may have the goal-scoring solution already..meaning we can use Suso in a more central position.. What do you think EDS? surely we need gerrard scoring and assisting? Albino Penguin.

Gerrard has carried this club for over ten years , he has never had , nor ever will have , the positional sense and discipline to play the holding midfield role in a 4-3-3 .

Pretty sure thats where he started off as a holder and did the role when England won 5-1 or whatever it was against Germany. Gerrard could easily play it he's the best midfielder ive ever seen... it was only when Rafa converted him that we all saw he could do it going forward as the best in the world too but yes I think it would be a waste of him that deep. But dont say he cant do it... thats ridiculous imo!

As for the Germany ( 5-1 ) game , England didn't play a 4-3-3 that night , Gerrard had Paul Scholes as a partner and two wide midfielders .

Of course he can play CM in a 4-4-2 , he did it very well at Euro 2012 , but as a single holding player in our system , I agree with the third poster - no way !

Isn't it great to share opinions , though I've only seen Gerrard live in about 480 of his 601 ganes , so perhaps I'm not qualified .

Make no mistake the 1st half yesterday was a shocker and imo Rodgers takes the blame for that but to his credit he did change it in the 2nd half and admitted he'd got it wrong in the 1st half. I think because of his previous association with Chelsea he showed them too much respect and forgot he was the Liverpool Manager. He'll learn.
Even before a ball was kicked every man and his dog knows Chelsea are strong in midfield and play with just Torres upfront. We should have flooded the midfield and played with just Suarez upfront with Gerrard and Suso as the players to give him support when possible. ( immediately a stronger line up as Suarez is 10 times better than Torres ) Sterling could have been used as an impact sub. I know people will it's easy in retrospect but to me it was obvious.

Youve got al awful lot to say recently. maybe you shud be the manager if you know things rodgers dont?

12 Nov 2012 13:24:53
Have you read what Rodgers said though? That he was trying to get support up to Suarez via Sterling, whlist keeping 3 in midfield to match theirs. Because we couldn't get the pressing game right,he reverted. He tried it,it didnt work and he changed it,which probably got us a point. Credit to him,i say. He's mixing it up,keeps opposition guessing.

anybody actually realizing that suarez is on top of the goal charts at the moment along side van persie?! this guy is truely world class! hope he stays fit and keeps firing them day in day out :)
its a true shame no one out there is scoring next to him and sharing the resposnibilty! or we wud have been top of the league by now!

Just think- if he had finished all the absolute sitters that he's missed this season, he'd probably have at least 13 or 14 right now. he's infuriating to watch sometimes, but nobody can complain about his strike rate this year.

12 Nov 2012 09:25:36
Wow what's with the Joe Allen hate? It's starting to sound like the criticism Lucas received when he first joined.

He's pure class, just had a couple of bad games is all. He will be a very important player for us for years to come in my opinion. Keep the faith.

Allen was left exposed against some of the best midfielders in the Premier. Rodgers got it wrong in the 1st half.
kidmillions

I agree, just needs to play higher up the pitch, which he will do when Lucas is back.

Keith

12 Nov 2012 10:05:36
Mate Allen was brought coz of retention of ball and possession but in 4-5 games he has been poor Swansea just showed how to expose him and every team is going to do the same. When you press him quickly he can't pass and gives possession consistantly and has coast us 16+M neither he is AM or DM or play maker when lucas will be back will see how Rodgers going to fit him and that will be real test for Allen coz there will be no excuses anymore for him

Nonsense..couple of bad games..
no excuse wen u are bought for 16 mill..and u arent a sub..
you enter directly into team, u need to show the game..
i am afraid..he will be on bench wen lucas comes back..
lesser age doesnt mean he would give us world class service..
he was not bought to cover lucas...he was BR choice ahead of so many wonderful midfield players in the market at 20 mill valuation...

If you actually watch him play, he makes himself an outlet for nearly every player when they have the ball.
However, the movement of those around him has been poort at times. He receives and is looking to play a pass, but nothing is on, so he checks and looks to play along a different line, but again no-one is there.
Most of the time that he lost the ball against Chelsea was when this was happening and he was being closed out by 3 Chelsea players.
The guy is quality and we will see even more of it when Lucas is back.
FFS get of his back and actually gives the players wearing the red shirt the confidence to try things on the pitch.

Swansea knew how to play him because they taught him. They knew that if they nullified joe allen they would win ,because the rest of the midfield around him were clueless. Fans on here need to give opposition teams and players the respect they deserve because swansea played us off the park, then they went on to be the better team against chelsea in a 1-1 draw and went to southampton and drew 1-1, so dont be so blinkered and only see what you want to see

Didnt Joe Allen play deep alongside Britton for Swansea last season though? If Lucas comes back and we play Allen, Gerrard abd Lucas in the middle, we have 0 creativity from there

Allowing Suso to roam behind suarez and infront of the midfield is wonderful, hope BR does this more often

And Suso is such a cool name as well. Just Like Pele, Ronaldo, Socrates, all the best players have one name, its clearly the key to success. RC

Hi eds
Why dont we give sterling 50 k a week he is a outstanding player, we pay joe cold and Stewart Downing each around 60 k a week and look at what they do for the club ....... Absolutely nothing. {Ed002's Note - WAgewsa re not a matter for sensible discussion - as evidenced by this post.}

Joe Allen looks like he should be playing in the . championship. 15 Million he is really crap what a waste of money.Borini was just as bad before the injury and he cost 10 million BR has signed total crap even assadi is hit and miss. If our kids were rubbish we would be fighting relegation. FSG need to make serious investment or sell up.

It's a compliment to Allen that he marked Ramires and Torres out of the game totally. Think about that, nimrod.

Singred

12 Nov 2012 09:52:32
Nope he didn't mark anyone out of the game he was passing them consistantly and we were lucky not to be 3-4 down in first half coz of Allen Gerrard had to deffend more.

What?..allen marked ramirez and torrez out of the game?
wer u watching an old game in youtube?
he was the worst on pitch yesterday..
infact from past 4-5 games...

I agree that Joe Allen has'nt had the best of game's lately but i think he's getting used to much! I think he's been involved in virtually every game!

Joe allens game is his passing ability, he can only pass to someone if they move to make themselves available to receive a pass. You cant pass to someone who does'nt show so therefore he sometimes gets caught on the ball while looking for someone to pass to.The rest of the players need to take a bit more responsibility and move into space to receive the pass, then you will see the best of joe allen

Hello Guys. Some good news some bad. Good News is that we will buy in January. Bad news is no one of real quality

Another psychic graces us with their prescence lmao Simonpw

Yeah that's right, Liverpool will part with millions & announce it was a purchase of 'no real quality'. You know nothing!

I am beginning to think Gerrard should be used differently.

Since we have been playing 5 at the back the past 2 games, maybe Stevie can try a libero role ala Matthaus or Beckenbauer. This way, his reading will help the defence and his passing and vision will lead to many killer outlet passes.

This will also open up a midfeild slot for the younger players to play more often.

But most importantly, this will extend his career by a gd 3 years, maybe til 36 or 37.

If we keep improving, we may challenge for and maybe even win a PL title within that time.

Cos NOBODY deserves a PL winner's medal more than Stevie G.

It just kills me that players like the Scouse turncoat Gary Neville, Lee Sharpe (who?), Anderson(what?), Wes Brown etc all have it but a once in a generation player like SG doesn't.

Footie gods please?!

Is it true FSG will only give Rodgers 15M to buy striker and other than that he will have to sell player.

I understand that Rodgers looking for 1 center forward and 1 attacking winger.

striker - sturridge, hooper, jeremain lens,
attacking winger - dries mertens, walcott,

Boot room blarney - i thought that was the best football we have played in a long time, our team work was excellent ,we played the european champions in their own back yard against world class players with kids from our academy ,i am so proud of our team ,sahin was again not up to it and thats too many times this season i think we should end his loan deal in january as we have better now in his position but we didnt know that at the beginning of the season did we,so we took a chance .Allen wasnt that good today but the chelsea tactics was to have 3 pressing him all game a credit to the lad for his excellent play so far this season and chelsea needed to stop him but what happened, step up liverpool fc the whole team played with passion and at times chelsea couldnt cope with us and if it hadnt been for cech who was by far the best chelsea player we could of won, carragher so long a liverpool legend was back and he was immense i was shocked at how well he played considering his first premier league outing,i believe in this team and style of football but do worry about giving back to keeper as often as we do,we will be there abouts by january then we are going to be a major force and all teams will be scared we wont win uefa cup or anything else but we will be top 4 and that is liverpools priority this season and look who wasnt playing we have so much talent this is the going to be the start of great things again for Lfc -OUR TEAM -

Thought the 1st half was the worst we've played all season incuding West Brom but the 2nd half once Johnson went to left back and Suso came on we turned it round and got a grip on the game. Well done to Brendan for changing it round and admitting he got the 1st half tactics wrong. 6 games unbeaten can be extended to 10 and more methinks.

Actually, to be fair, the Chelsea teams average age was younger than ours yesterday. So they also had a lot of young players in the team.

"Carraghers past it"?????Hopefully Jamies assist today will shut a few of his critics up for a while.
NAVANRED

He is past it

But he's better than having no Jamie Carragher at all, he is a veteran. If he'd take a reduced salary, he can stay around the squad for many more years (tho not as 1st choice CB) giving advice and playing if needed in cups or the odd important game such as yesterday. Its a managers job to make sure he's not exposed, or paired with another slower CB or having to mark a very athletic player. In 20 years time we will long for another Carra and Gerrard as there won't be another one for a very long time. He'll be deep within the coaching setup at Liverpool one day which is a fact. Legend.

Yesterday's goal was extra special not because we needed it, but because it was a very rare assist for Carragher, I was so happy for him, the guy is a true Liverpool legend that symbolises everything I like to see in a Liverpool player.. But has he passed it,Yes he has, he knows it as well , I think the bench and the cameo appearances is the perfect solution, well done to Brendan for dropping him to the bench and very well done to Carragher for accepting it so gracefully and then give it his best whenever he is called in.

Is Joe Allen related to Woody Allen, because he is just pure comedy, what a £15m joke.. Useless!.

Absolute..correct...its a fact and yes its true..we are the only club who defends, support and motivate our players on thick and thin..
but common lets open our mouth..
we cant fund players like downing, allen and hendo..
allen could have been good if bought as asquad player or as a cover up..like assadi and yesil..which didnt cost our money much..
but 2 mil on signing amount..15 mill on paper..and a good wage..
above all the midfield players who were available in the market..
he should prove his metal wen playing in big matches...

brad jones was excellent today . a couple of really good point blank saves.
NZL_red

He was rubbish. Renia is better and he is sitting on the bench. What is the manager playing at.

Jones is not rubbish. He needs game time. and he actually catches the ball instead of punching it all the time. With a settled back line in front of him he will be fine. Nothing much he could do about Terry's free header yesterday. Defenses fault. Pepe has been great for us but not for a while now. Some pressure on his place might bring back the Pepe of old. IF not Brad could be there for a while as he is only 30ish.
Iggypop

Reina wasn't sitting on the bench.... Check the team-sheet again !

And since he has come in Jones has been excellent. Personally, I still prefer Pepe, but Jones' performance might just give Pepe the kick up the arse that he needed. At least we know we have a good back up 'keeper

Macko

Jones is a good keeper but to say he doesn't punch the ball is wrong what about osman's goal for everton very poor punch out set that one up and i can think of others he's not very good on cross like pepe

its only my opinion and i dont really want to say certain players let others down because its all about team. Today was a very good point i couldnt see coming until the ball was in the back of the net we got a bit of bite back after that. People need to get off the back of our players and support them, stevie G is aging and dont dominate the midfeild no more , i think he needs reinvent himself as a player llike matthaus did at bayern to more suit his skills and energy that he has. today chelsea dominated the mifield and that what we need to start doing maybe lucas(who i think we miss badly) is the answer but we need a dominant driving force in that position. we all know we need a goal scorer and i hope fsg stump the cash up for this because suarez as great as he is will be missing when he gets another card and what will happen if he gets injured, god forbid. We have been lucky that some our academy players have stepped up this season but by using them so much are burning them out, they look lightweight sometimes but are showing to have a great future at our club. So lads instead of being negative all the time lets get behind the team and manager who made a great tactical switch today that balanced us more and help get a great point.

Chelsea dominated midfield because the set up pits 3 against 4. Once the formation was changed the domination was no longer as great. In fact we ended up having 52% of the possession. I think the weak link in Sahin. He is not fully fit and IMO should be coming off the bench. SG can only work with the ball he is given and it was noticeable he became more dominant after the change in formation and Suso came on. I will be interested to see if he gets in the box more when Lucas returns and he trusts Allen and Lucas to hold the midfield if he goes forward.

Did anybody notice that not one of the players celebrated with Suarez when he equalised? I hope I'm not looking into things but I can't think of any reason why nobody would celebrate with him, given the fact that the equaliser was so late in the game , you would expect everyone even the goalkeeper (sarcasm) to run up to him and celebrate. I really hope there is nothing in this - the last thing we need is a problem with Suarez and the rest of the team. Red Rom {Ed001's Note - it was all down to the excitement of Carra being involved, it was his first assist in about 3 years. Mind, to be fair, it was very rare he went forward for corners etc during that time.}

Yes, I was at the game and noticed this too. Suarez was by himself at the corner flag celebrating in front of the away fans. A couple of players waited for him in the Chelsea half but all other LFC players walked back to the LFC half. Strange reaction by the team to the goal.

Think all the players were dissapointed to a degree in the performance and didn't want to lose focus after battling back. Simple as that really. We are Liverpool Fc after all and shouldn't go to wild over an equaliser if Suarez would have managed to put us in front.. Well different celebration.

As far as I could see they all went to congratulate JC for the assist seen as it's a long time since he last had 1, Simonpw

Chelsea vs Liverpool how I saw it...

Jones - did well, made a number of good stops and, on the whole, was solid. Still looks vulnerable in the air at times though (Imagine if Drogbba was still at Chelsea, would be a nightmare) and his distriubtion has not been good enough. High, looping goal kicks up will very rarely yield posession when only Suarez & Sterling are contesting headers against centre backs.

Johnson - Did fairly well, got forward, took on players at will and seems to suit the wing back role a lot more than the right back position.

Enrique - Well I criticised him haevily after the Everton game, I cannot say the same today. Defended very well, got forward with real vigour and, like Johnson, seems to suit the wing back role much more than the more defensive minded left back position. Was still guilty of giving the ball away on numerous occasions though and, despite his man of the match performance (he did play very well) I get the impression, given how clumsy and wild he seems to be, that he might be equally poor the next game. If he can perform to that standard consistently then he will be a huge asset to the team.

Agger - Thought he had a few shaky moments early on, was at fault for the goal but was excellent thereafter making a number of vital interceptions late on. Distribution was good as always but, to be honest, the entire defence looked a shambles for a lot of this game. Chelsea had 2 or 3 clear cut chances that they failed to take, think the defence still needs a lot of work.

Carragher - Was solid. Very solid. Lacks pace and got skinned a few times but recovered his position well and really does organise the defence. I was questioning why he was played ahead of Coates before the game. I had no such doubts afterwards. Did really well with his flicked on header to provide Suarez with the goal too.

Wisdom - Looked very solid at times and looked completely at sea at others. Does seem to be slowly improving but some of his distribution and decision making with the ball is alarmingly poor. Playing in our new system i.e. posession, lots of the ball, quick passing, etc etc he needs to work on this side of his game. As a defender looks decent (although does appear more comfortable in the right back role).

Sahin - Disappointing start to his time at Liverpool so far. Has failed to impact games, pass the ball well and generally threaten attackingly. Is a passenger at the moment and, to be honest, shouldn't be starting games on current form.

Gerrard - Diabolically poor. Made two good forward, probing passes but aside from that was really nowhere near good enough. Struggles to break up play like he used to before (can attribute age and declinin pace for this) and seems to misplace and make mitakes on the ball all the time. Has been poor all season, we really his form to improve.

Allen - He is a favourite for criticism off fans and it is sometimes undeserved. Today it was entirely deserved. Barely any impact in terms of breaking up play, I've said it numerous times he does not break play up. Attacking wise offers little to no penetration or support. Today even his sideways, 8 yard passing went astray on numerous occasions. He was awful and should of been substituted before the unimpressive Sahin.

Sterling - Barely featured in the first half, came into the game more as the second half wore on and began causing Chelsea headaches as he got a little more time and space and as the teams general play improved. Laid on Enrique near the end with a very good, incisive run. A pity it took him so long to find his way into the game.

Suarez - Strangely subdued in the first half (although seems to of inadvertently buggered Terry's knee) and never really looked like he was firing on all cylinders. Like Sterling came alive more as the 2nd half wore on and continued his good run of form with another goal. Without him we would be seriously up the creek, which only highlights the pressing need to invest in January.

Subs:

Suso - did very well despite a few terrible passes and was instrumental in changing the games flow and, as a result, our attacking prowess. More influential than Sahin, slicker on the ball and just seemed to make more things happen. I'd start him over Sahin in the next game without question, he would be there entirely on merit. Distribution from corners was also very good.

Conclusions:

A game were we looked absolutely lost in defence at times, were we rode our luck but which lead to a decent result by the end. Midfield was abysmal today, Sahin needs dropping (for Suso or Shelvey, IMHO Suso) and if we had an adequate replacement I would suggest Allen get the same treatment. Defence managed to make things a lot tighter in the 2nd half and not conceding a 2nd goal gave us a platform to get back into the game. Suso made his prescence felt when he came on, Suarez showed real fight near the end (and was unlucky that he didn't quite have the pace to knock the ball around Cech). Enrique was unbelievably good at left-back, I just hope he can maintain that form. A good result which was not really reflected in the performance - there is a lot to improve and a number of players who did not perform well enough. Fixture list is a little kinder for the next couple of weeks - it is essential we start winning games, if we continue to draw than Europe (in any form) is going to be an impossibility before the new year even begins.

SMc

Disagree with a number of points but especially about Suarez and Sterling. How can you say they only came alive in the second half. They had absolutely no balls in the first half. We were overrun in midfield and had no penetration. Do you expect Luis to come and set himself up as usual.

Well they didn't do anything in the first half. The service they received was poor but I have alluded to the shocking performance of the midfield in my analysis. Suarez didn't really look interested until about 20 minutes to go and Sterling was a peripheral figure until around the same time. The service was poor in the first half but players have to move more, fight to win the ball, fight to be involved in the game - no good making excuses for their lack of contribution in the first half, the burden i nots exclusively on the midfield to give them perfect passes whenever they want.

Enrique and Johnson both had more posession and attacking thrust on the wing than Sterling in the first half, so there was opportunities there. Suarez lost the ball everytime it was played to him in the first half, he wasn't good enough for 60 minutes of the game against Chelsea. I like both players and think they are brilliant for us, but I refuse to pretend they were brilliant and can do no wrong when their performance for 2/3's of the game indicates otherwise. The whole team was poor until about the 60 minute mark, they were part of the team, they were also poor - i'm basing my assessment on performance during the 90 minutes, not on what has gone on in previous games - I think my assessment was an accurate reflection of their performance.

Rodgers should show sahin he has to fight for his place not play him every game when he brings nothing to the team.maybe if he sits on the bench 3games he would be forced to improve..no way in hell shelvey would get a game before. gerrard.when lucas gets fit our midfield 3 will be allen, lucas, and gerrard with his quality supporting suarez..sterling plays with so much confidence for his age though.jones is really giving reina and rodgers something to think about..

hi eds and fans
weel done to all, except to allen who looked sloppy which is unusual for him, and wisdom was not too good but better in the second half. When suso came on he was sloppy but then improved his performance.
Of course as always Suarez was fantastic and enrique has upped his game tremendously.Brad made a couple of good saves but his ball distribution needs working on.
Last but not least we need a Striker!
I thought sahin today looked out of his depth.
Ed what do you think?
hibsylfc {Ed001's Note - Allen didn't have the best of games, but that was as much down to the lack of options and movement ahead of him and Chelsea's excellent pressing of him. Suso took a while to get up to pace, but he was trying to make things happen, once he got up to pace it started to happen for him and he clearly worried Chelsea, unlike Sahin. Gerrard played one fantastic through ball, but apart from that he struggled as well, he didn't seem to be sure what he was doing in the first half. I am so pleased for Jones, for a 3rd choice keeper to be thrown in like he has been, he has really done well. Clearly not the long term answer, but he can change that if he keeps upping his game. Enrique was much improved, not sure he deserved MOTM, after all the sloppy errors giving away possession, but he kept trying and working, he never let his head drop. It was a decent all round performance, the team is defo looking better as the season goes on, now we just need to get some more wins.}

Poor game for Allen. Especially giving the ball away. He also seemed very frustrated and made some aggressive challenges. Thankfully he stayed on the field with one yellow card. But at times he seemed to be losing his head ....
Enrique was solid!

I'd say one decent striker and a class CAM instead. We really need someone who can take the ball forward and distribute to the forwards. Suso I'd say could be this player longer term but I don't think he's quite there yet.
