A special mention for Borini for that sensational run and shot off the woodwork. Maybe he has more in his locker than I've given him credit for.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Well said Cozinoz. Borini can be our own Chicharito if he improves his finishing a little. His off the ball movement and awareness are second to none. The only drawback is he can be pushed around a bit by brutal defenders like huth, shawcross. The guy needs to spend more time in the gym.

Agree0 Disagree0

One good shot and now Borini is Marco Van Basten!

Agree0 Disagree0

But for a horrifically unlucky deflection off the post that could so easily have gone in, Borini could have done as much this season as Welbeck despite being injured for most of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some people have already made up there mind and just want to hate the guy no matter what. I bet even if he scores 20 a season, the above no name troll would still find an excuse to hate the lad.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

No, mr un-named poster.
That was an example of the player he is.
Borini is a fantastic player for his age and lack of matches this season.
It still puzzles me that people think he should be held accountable and somehow punished for being injured.
Not putting words in your mouth mr. un-named.
But many people do still get on his back about his lack of goals. In the words of Alan Partridge.
These people are Momal Mwams!

Red7.

Agree0 Disagree0

You're all very quick to jump down the anonymous posters throat, but my word, where were you all for the rest of this season when 95% on here were bad mouthing him. Fickle?

I was here defending him and pointing to his extremely good off the ball positioning and movement that just needed that finishing touch. As was 'The Real AG' at the very least. I don't remember seeing Indian Buzzer or Cozinoz before a few weeks ago. Happy CFC? Or would you like bound reports of all our activity over the last 9 months?

Hi Macca,
do you have any information regarding Rodgers' summer targets?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 May 2013 22:32:28
hi eds was just looking on Maccas page and someone posted about how much will be spent in the summer. your reply was that there is no set budget but we are losing money, and any transfers would be funded by the owners. so just how bad is our financial position?

i thought when the owners bought off hicks and gillet they bought cheaply because we were close to administration and wiped some of the debt off. i'm probly very wide of the mark here and I do find it very confusing. how much do we lose per year roughly? our scouts must be looking all over the world for talent its about time they found us a few bargains look at michu and wigans team yesterday was something like 8.6 mil to citys 140 mil or whatever it is.

redman matt {Ed002's Note - This has been explained before. We are not opening up again.}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Unfortunately we have a large group of fans who are now guilty of a) deciding someone is rubbish because they were cheap and therefore clearly unwanted by their team and b) fail to grasp the concept of spending doesn't make someone a guarenteed instant hit or failure - buying a player for £10m now at 20 is likely to be because you expect him to be worth £30m at 25, not because you expect him to be worth that at 20 and 6 months

Agree0 Disagree0

Samsam9000.
Seems somebody has had a few cups of common sense today.

good to see.

Red7.

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't forget the large group of fans that say they don't want "over-hyped" british players. But, are willing to see the club splash 20 and 30m for players that are no more than an Iberian or Latino version of Emile Heskey or Jack Hobbs.

Red7.

Agree0 Disagree0

The idea of a Latino Emile Heskey makes me want to cry.

i looked on the Macca page and I saw a reply from one of the eds about finances this summer and how the owners would have to put money in them selves because we are losing money. I just wondered how much we are losing per season because of big fees payed out (like the carrol 1) and big wage fees.

i also thought because the new owners stopped us going into administration they may have got the club cheaper and cleared some of the debt. i'm probly a long way off the mark there I do find it confusing, but there was some settlement with hicks and gillet not to long ago if I remember because they disagreed with the valuation.

if we have no money would be good for our scout to come up with a few bargains/free transfers and start earning there money. it can be done look at michu and wigan compared to city. wigans team value was something like 8.6 mil compared to 140 mil. I do think we are heading in the right direction and with 2 or 3 quality additions in the summer we can push on next season.

Hi, Love the site & I really appreciate all the hard work of all the Ed's!

I'm just wondering if any of the Ed's or Macca can shed some light on what we should make of John Henry apparently not attending a home game all season?

Is it just coincidental or does it betray something else?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - This has been explained before. We are not opening up again.}

With Eriksen looking Dortmund bound I feel we should look to a player who can play in all attacking positions.

Sanchez would be great if we could get within 15-20m but I'd guess his wages would be high. Tello at 10m would also be a good option. Add a CB to that and that's our shopping done with sales making up the rest of the signings.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Payet of lille would be better than both

hi wondering what people think of check tiote coming to Liverpool- instead of wanyama

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Tiote has looked awful this season. Even the Newcastle fans have been on his back. He can't pass for toffee, he loses the ball as soon as he wins it and gives away far too many free kicks. Think there's far better out there and Wanyama is one of them

Agree0 Disagree0

Would rather we gave Coady a chance to play. Tiote is a sending-off waiting to happen.

If we can unearth another player like Coutinio this summer as competition and backup I think we could have a good season next year.

We now have 2 top quality strikers just need 2 for the attacking MF.

Worries me he could get injured and we have nothing to replace him as he's already a vital player for us in our small squad.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

They don't grow on trees, i'm sorry to say. If they did we'd have 25 of them. As would every other club.

Just read a very good piece on coutinho by espn every Liverpool fan should look it up. MATTYLFC

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Only Coutinho could take the spotlight from a player who had just scored a hat-trick. But as Daniel Sturridge confirmed the possession of his match ball, the away fans sung the name of their Brazilian. Sturridge's name was to come later, but the love was first fired towards their number 10. Here is a player who makes football fun, and did so in a fun game of football.

I believe the above is from the article you are refering to? Either way, says it all really doesn't it

Why are we intent on getting rid of Cotes according to this site? Is it is attitude because he hasn't had many games to prove himself, then we would only need one centre back.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Because of his lack of pace. You need to be as good as Hyypia or Carra to play CB in the premier league without pace.

We'll only find out how good he is if he's given a run in the side

Agree0 Disagree0

WE'LL only find out how good he is, yes. Although I have a feeling the coaching staff and manager already know how good he is. I just don't think they see him as suiting our style of play.
Expect at least 1 centre half to come in who DOES suit it.

Agree0 Disagree0

If he was good enough in training then he would get a run in the team. He clearly isn't and neither is Assaidi so we as fans need to just move on from it. It really doesn't matter one bit to LFC what we as fans think of a player. Its BR's decision based on training who the strongest 11 are.

I for one am more than happy to see the backs of players that have been unable to get into the team all season if it will bring in new talent that will improve the squad.

Agree0 Disagree0

He's lucky he's still getting paid after the Oldham performance.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2013 21:22:38
Think we are making very steady progress, sometimes 3 steps forward then 1 back, but undeniably we are getting somewhere. BR has to take credit for this. definitely seeing his style being implemented. So pleasing to see the new signings from January making a strong impact, massive improvement from the likes of Hendo and Downing, and this in a year where Luis still brings us massive controversy and disruption.
Our potential 1st eleven is ex element, squad depth needs improving but genuinely feel that will happen. So what of next season.
Man United. hard to say, My guess is slightly weaker
Man City. looking like a new boss, no doubt big spending
Chelsea. new boss, players moving on
Arsenal. who knows
Spurs. may lose Bale
Everton. surely weaker without Moyes

Most teams will strengthen like us, people seem to forget it won't be just us so we have no divine right to progress more than others. Think the teams above us could all be classed as transitional in one way or another so maybe a good year for us with a few quality additions. I've been watching the mighty reds for 39 years, this is the most excited about our team I've been for many years. Hopefully it's not another false dawn but I for one am 100% behind BR and the team, and do you know what. it's at times supreme flowing football, good times ahead!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I can think of a lot of teams throughout europe who simply will not improve at this stage.
Whether their squad is ageing, their squad is full of persons like Newcastle, their manager is faltering or their clubs are going broke.

We're headed in the right direction. New manager, young and capable squad who are forever evolving. Only way is up.

Agree0 Disagree0

12 May 2013 21:21:07
Argue with me all you like I still think we need another striker who will get 25+ goals a season, who will either hold the ball up, giving us another dimension (which is why I would happily take Carroll back, however I think he can only get 20 a season and that may be pushing it). Or we should go for a poacher, Sturridge is quick and finishes well but is still not consistent enough, after all he had a few chances to win the game against Everton but wasn't interested but today he turned it on? I'll never understand players like that, though he is young. If we could get Higuain for a cut price £15 million with Mourinho leaving and them needing to rebuild he would be an instant impact.

Also we need a midfield metronome, with a bit of flair who keeps the game ticking, but can pass forward and get about the pitch and score goals, like Modric or Alonso (would love to have him back) can you see it Eds? But maybe a younger version of these two a less expensive C. Eriksen would do like Gonalons of Lyon or maybe a Moritz Leitner?

Interesting to hear your views {Ed019's Note - Our metronome is Gerrard. I think we need a Player like Mata/Silva/Cazorla/Wilshere, a playmaker of that mould}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Thinking Coutinho is our metronome. only 20, and in a few years we could be building the whole side around him in a more central role. Very similar to Mata, Silva etc, I'd say we need a Diame type for protection and drive. I do like Lucas but being honest, think we could cover that position with a better player. and one who doesn't give away so many free kicks. Wanayama maybe?

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed I wouldn't swap any of them 4 for Coutinho. let's hope Suso can finally step up next season and save us a small fortune.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think coutinho could be that player for us plus I expect Suso will be closer next season.

Agree0 Disagree0

I think we have the ability already. Like United proved this year, You don't need good players, You need the right mentality

Agree0 Disagree0

Ed, haven't we already got one in Coutinho?

Agree0 Disagree0

Personally I think the one to keep play ticking over is allen, if people would give him a chance.

Anonymous woolback

Agree0 Disagree0

Another striker to score 25+? If one of our strikers is already scoring that many, just how is this new lad going to get a run in order to score all those goals? (barring lengthy suspensions)

Agree0 Disagree0

To the unnamed who wouldn't swap coutinho for Mata, you're insane my friend. Mata was not only Chelsea's player of the year but is the best attacking mid in the EPL (and is hugely consistent at that). Adding him to the squad would be huge and he is right up there with Ozil as the best playmaking attacking mids in the world.

Dont get me wrong I love Coutinho and think he has an amazing future ahead but Mata is the better player right now.

Agree0 Disagree0

Mata would probably make my European 11. Aboslutely amazing footballer! Better than Silva already!

Is it just me or is our team much more exciting to watch than most other teams? I know I'm biased because I love Liverpool, but our tempo and chances make our games so fun to watch, and slightly painful to watch others. Utd, Chelsea, and most other teams just don't have that continual excitement. The only time I can watch Utd. or Chelsea is if they're losing or drawing cause that's the only time I'm entertained enough to watch their brand of football. Add more wins and we're set.

Players I think we should target:
Alderwield
Sanchez

Sales dependant:
RW: Gaitan
CB LB DM: Gustavo

I would of said Eriksen instead of Sanchez however Eriksen looks Dortmund bound. I have faith in the transfers after January so I'm sure they will do alright.

If Coutinho had of cost 30m I would have said money well spent and Sturidge has been great too.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why alderweireld? Both spurs and city but pulled the plug claiming he is too slow and lacks concentration!

Agree0 Disagree0

This above no named poster has been on here a while, slating Alderweireld as being slow and being deemed not enough by Spurs. Do you have something against the man?

He is an excellent player and definitely NOT SLOW. In fact he is faster than all of our current CBs.

Iy won't be an issue however as he is going to Roma.

Top job lads.

I have faith we can challenge for next 4 next year.

If Rogers managed to pick up two excellent players in Coutinho and Sturridge for a combined £20 million there's no reason he can't do it again.

With the funds from the owners and sales we will have at the very least £40 million to spend and this figure could be as high as 55-60 million.

2 defenders, 1 cdm, 1 winger and we'll be in good shape.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

12 May 2013 18:54:32
Here's a fun fact. Sturridge managed to do something Luis didn't all season - win a match all by himself. Every single win we've had this season where he has scored, Luis has not been the only scorer. Just something to think about with regards to relying on him alone. However, I still think it would be foolish to look to moving him on, given just how good he is although the dynamics of team play may sometimes get distorted when he's playing - games like Everton spring to mind where his influence is missed. Either way, with a bit more quality in depth next season and more than anything, continuity, I believe we are in excellent hands and the future will be red, Liverpool red.

NextGenRed

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Have a look at the number of assists Luis has. Also had Sturridge looked up today and squared the ball he wouldn't have been the only scorer.

Brilliant performance from the lads today. Showed real fight to comeback quickly and equalize. Sturridge had a fantastic game, a bit selfish at times eg when he should have square to Shelvey but that's a necessary trait in a good #9. Our midfield did well throughout. Not overly convicted with glens defensive performance, he seems lost out there while marking players but makes up with his attacking threat. Coutinho was simply magnificent, signing of the jan window IMHO, he's got amazing vision, precision touch and passing and gets in on the tackle well for a slender guy, I think we'd be in on the top 4 had we had sturr and cout at the start.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Why are we/ Rodgers not getting credit for the January signings at relativley cheap prices.
He got slated for the money he paid for Allen and Borini (who is starting to play well) so we should praise him for when he gets it right.
Around 8 million for Coutiniho and 12 for Sturridge, not bad in todays market for the impact they have had.

Tbf though, I thought he was a greedy player who worked for himself rather than the team, but at Liverpool I have been impressed with his ability to hold up the ball and bring midfielders/wide players into the game.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

McManaman is more direct than assiadi.

He also attacks the opposition box frequently and very smart with his moves. also much more aggressive.

Assiadi just sits in the side and rarely attack the opposition box. also he is less aggressive imo.

Are Liverpool fans happy with their season? Really?
Kenny was sacked even though we won a trophy, got to the FA cup final AND dominated teams in games (even ones higher in the table) AND hit the woodwork a record (37?) times. unlucky to say the least! Suarez was banned for 8 games and we didn't have Stevie for a third of the season.
Now, Carroll's on loan (he's scoring goals!), our bench looks much weaker than other (top) teams, and if it wasn't for Sturridge (needs to PASS!) and Coutinho our additions would've looked below standards enjoyed by LFC in the past.
ARE WE RESIGNED TO THE FACT THAT WE MUST SETTLE FOR TOP4 (IF WE ARE LUCKY) AND FORGET ABOUT CHALLENGING? WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN TO US?
Your views would be appreciated.
A very worried Liverpool fan (42 years a Red)

BR is not an improvement on Kenny.

What many forget is that LFC is well below Chelsea, Citeh, & Utd. in terms of revenue and the FFPR won't close that gap immediately if at all.

Without an oil barron or the commercialism of United teams will struggle and that includes LFC.

Hi eds, regarding our defensive errors I belive that we can rectify it if we be a little bit astute. What's the situation with Julian Dudda of Frankfurt? Awesome talent, a no nonsense defender at 6'4 but can play the ball.
Alderwield has pre signed with Roma correct? Shame as he aswell could've been a good signing. Sakho and De Vrij are very good aswell, however are they out of our price range?

Also, Josip Ilicec of Palermo, possible to snap him up now that they are relegated? And the situation with Icardi of Samdoria, is he being monitored by LFC? Plays as a striker or just behind, eye for goal and not bad with his head, future argentine talent for sure. {Ed002's Note - This all seems to just be clutching at straws, or some game you are playing.}

Liverpool's number 1 target summer is Christian Eriksen who is expected to cost around £12.5m. Rodgers is planning on using his budget wisely and he is looking at two bargain centre backs. Alex Pearce of Reading and Douglas of FC Twente are both available on free transfers. Loic Remy could provide extra cover for Luis Suarez who will miss the start of next season due to suspension. Remy is has a clause in his contract which allows him to leave for somewhere in the £6-8m mark since QPR have been relegated. Tom Ince, Victor Wanyama and Lucas Digne all remain targets but Rodgers will have to raise some cash first. Andy Carroll, Dani Pacheco, Jay Spearing, Danny Wilson and Sebastian Coates all look certain to leave while Rodgers is also considering selling Jonjo Shelvey and Stewart Downing despite a recent upturn in form to raise funds.

Ed002.

Thanks for reply. Good points. Defence indeed needs massive shoring; it was single biggest cause of numerous dropped points. Lack of leadership and abject positional play have cost us dearly.

De Vrij would be ideal, because of age, talent and leadership qualities. I'm sure we'd pay what's needed to get him if he were priority. Problem is, however, he is no priority.

I fear what we will end up with is Micah Richards, Ashely Williams or a poor man's De Vrij.
That's the thing that bugs me with Liverpool. We never pursue our ideal signing, even when they are viable.

I'd bet my last pound that if we intended buying a CB last summer, we'd never have even considered Jan Vertonghen at the price he went for.
Overlooking Keisuke Honda and Moussa Sissoko for expensive Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson was typical Liverpool.

Ja, ja, ja! Hendo and Stewie have "improved". But being completely honest here, how many would have opted for that deal?
I've no doubt in my mind that Honda and Sissoko would have added far enormous quality to our side.

This is not a swipe at Comoli or Kenny; these are just cold hard facts.
We have spent a great deal more than Spurs the past 2, 3 years, yet they remain a far superior side to us.

Why? Because we buy poorely. We are predisposed to invariably always overlook the ideal, perfect signing for it's lesser alternative.

It's like it's embedded in our psyche and our psyche alone to pursue shocking, mind-boggling deals.
How many would have paid 35m for Carroll? 15m for Allen instead of, e. g. Dembele?
It's like only we are and we alone are intent on and capable of pursuing the dumbest deals over the smartest ones.

Balazs Dzsudzak, a fairly young, quality wide man on reasonable who'd instantly impact our play, will be available this summer. However, true to our nature, we will overlook him for lesser, overhyped and overpriced Tom Ince.
Incredible.

Incredible that about 150m has been spent since Rafa's last season, yet we are no more closer to achieving top 4 than we were when he left.

The owners have had their fair share of blunders, but to accuse them of not backing their men in the transfer market, as some clowns and cretins have heen doing here, is preposterous, utter BS.

Money's been provided, in bucket loads. Those entrusted with spending it are the culprits. If anyone has earned a trip to the guillotines, it's not Henry and Werner.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

100% correct. Our scouts must be awful

Agree0 Disagree0

Some of your points are true, but you are overlooking some points, mate.
Now, signing Downing and Hendo was not the brightest move, especially at these inflated fees, but it was part of a strategy - recruiting talent already used to the premierleague. We failed in said strategy, and this took down Comoli and Kenny, but it had a certain merit to it, and at least brought valuable lessons to the owners.
It is true that there were better talents out there, but Cissoko and Honda re not the perfect examples. Moussa at the time would've costed 12-18 mln - it is only this winter he came on the cheap, and after he failed as a CM! At the moment, I will take Hendo over him day and night! As for Honda, he has quality, but is no assured success. Transition from Russia to Premier is hard, proven by Zhirkov, Arshavin, etc. Kagawa also didn't exactly land on his feet. The manager wanted people to land on their feet, while Honda would have taken time to adjust - I don't say that this reasoning is right, for Hendo and downing also couldn't adjust from the start, but there was reasoning behind picking them.
I do hope we go for Balazs Dzudzak (spelling), I was a huge fan of his, but I doubt he will come cheap, his fee has been greatly inflated by heavy investments first from Anzhi, then from Dinamo. A younger, hungrier winger (though I have started to dislike Ince), might be a better solution.

Are any clubs interested in Callum Mcmanaman?

He has had a truly magnificent season, was man of the match (by some way too) in the FA Cup Final yesterday, is scouse (although ex Everton youth) and actually reminds me very much of his namesake, yesterdays performance for me was reminiscent of Steve's man of the match display against Bolton Wanderers in 1995.

Liverpool need a Genuine Right Winger with pace and an end product and he could find himself staring at the possibility of playing for a different manager in the Champoinship next season, although what a magnificent feat that would be if they stay up?
