People raving about TAA potential and scouse, and yes he is good. But my preferential scouse has been Flanagan ever since he comes to light at lfc. He has great character and attitude, fantastic positioning and awareness with good passing range, a tough man now! I will have him to provide cover to a new left back instead of Milner. Just my opinion though.

Believable3 Unbelievable15

12 Jul 2017 23:29:47
Both of them are good lads, but TAA has more potential in my opinion, but each to their own of course.

12 Jul 2017 23:38:24
Can't agree Alhassan. I've loved flanno's passion but often thought he jumped in too eagerly and was exposed by pacey tricky wingers. TAA also has age on his side. Like other posters have said, if flanno was going to make it, he wouldn't have sat on the bench when out on loan.

13 Jul 2017 00:20:23
Flano's main attribute is defending. Which should be the main focus of a fullback in my opinion. Klopp prefers fullbacks with quality going forward so I don't think John will be in his plans. It's a shame as the lad has the rare quality to get the crowd going when we're on the back foot. The perfectly timed crunching tackle. We've missed that since Carra and even Gerrard would throw a few in every now and then. A scouser who'll put his body on the line for 90 minutes. I miss Carragher. Not the tosser on sky sports but the big fella screaming at his teammates and battling Drogba and coming out on top. Could Flano be our new Carra. A few seasons ago I was optimistic, now I'm not so sure.

13 Jul 2017 02:31:41
The little bit I saw Flano play last year, he looked tentative and slow. Played very safe with a lot of sideways or backwards passing. I loved him before he got injured but I think too many people are judging him by what he was like pre-injury. Having said that I didn't see last nights match so is anyone able to provide a review on his performance?

13 Jul 2017 03:42:58
Scootinio I completely agree with you but unfortunately tackling like that is bearly none existing in football nowadays and refs are too strict on it also.

I myself am a HUGE fan of those CRUNCHING challenges as it has always shown true passion. Specially because it was always more common on games vs United which made them much more exciting

Maybe flano could be turned into a CB? Probably not as he can’t really jump and isn’t tall enough.
It is a shame, 10+ years ago he would have been perfect for the game : (.

13 Jul 2017 00:37:16
Burkeyboy, i believe player like Flanagan learns even sitting on bench because of what you admit 'passion' and of course zeal. His awareness and positioning sense will help him deal with pacey and trickish players as he is of age now as you mentioned. Like i said, i will prefer him to cover a new left back instead of Milner.

13 Jul 2017 12:11:56
The same Flanagan that struggled to get a game last season at a club he should be holding the position when fit. He's just not Champions League quality which is what we should be aiming for. TAA could be.

12 Jul 2017 22:35:27
Naby keita deal is very close according to Graeme Kelly. He's extremely reliable when it comes to LFC news.

Believable9 Unbelievable9

12 Jul 2017 23:23:41
eds any truth to this? or nothing new?

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea who he is, but maybe it is done as everyone is telling us. Is this twitter?}

12 Jul 2017 23:32:17
When I wrote the above, I was thinking it must be a twitter rumour. As always, a load of nonsense.

{Ed002's Note - Let's assume both he and van Dijk (as Danny Murphy says) are now done - who do you want next?}

12 Jul 2017 23:41:09
Yeah they will both be signed by Friday of course. I'm sure this fella on twitter can even predict the time it will happen.

On another note, I'm telling you all right now, because I'm 'in the know' Hazard will be done by the 21st at 3:10pm. You heard it here first. I'm as reliable as they come, do you believe me? because this is the same as these twitter users who probably pay to get followers. Yet people see so and so many people following them and suddenly it's true? come off it.

13 Jul 2017 00:24:58
Just heard we were close to signing Messi but he's decided to go on tour with Freddie Flintoff. Shame as we would of BATTERED the opposition.

13 Jul 2017 00:38:09
We all know LFC's transfer dealings will be "gaining momentum" this week 😄😄.

13 Jul 2017 04:57:30
Yeah teabag what are people like posting rumours up! Who cares where they have heard it I thought this was a rumours site?

{Ed001's Note - I think you are missing the point, people are not posting rumours, they are rehashing old rumours. If you are going to do so, then you are just wasting everyone's time. So please stop inciting these morons to continue to repost crap about Keita and VVD that is just repeats of what has already been said. If you want to do that, bugger off and play with the morons on twitter and do us all a favour.

By the way, yes I did remove most of your post, as boring, repetitive and pointless. Unless you have something of interest to add, instead of the same crap we have all read a million times on here already, why bother?}

13 Jul 2017 08:11:35
I care where they have heard it, what's the point in posting them when they are simply not true Redx? Nobody wants to read false information mate. It gets gullible peoples hopes up and then you've got tons of people posting the same stuff, asking the same questions about the same player for god knows how long because somehow they believe what they've heard from twitter is true lol 99.9% of it is nonsense they want you to retweet to make them look 'the real deal'

Hit the nail on the head ed1.

13 Jul 2017 12:15:21
And asking whether there is any update on Keita is not doing exactly that?

12 Jul 2017 22:08:20
Hi Eds, just wondering if LFC has any renewed interest in Kovacic? I know Kovacic didn't have any interest in us but that was a couple of seasons ago. Reading that he may leave Real Madrid and that Spurs might be a possible destination. I saw him a couple of times in Italy and was v impressed and he's still only 23. I know we are overloaded with midfielders but that hasn't stopped everyone banging on about Kieta. Thank you.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - No.}

12 Jul 2017 23:24:14
Don't get Harry started mate dear lord.

{Ed002's Note - Ed002 is fine, "Dear Lord" works but it remains slightly embarrassing.}

12 Jul 2017 23:33:53
Hahaha!

13 Jul 2017 00:25:47
How about oh my god.

13 Jul 2017 00:38:53
"Expensive Lord" then?

13 Jul 2017 02:17:15
Oh dear ed002,I don't know you, but maybe your a bit easy embarrassed? Like - maybe a bit shy?

However, thanks a lot for sharing your knowlegde, and keeping up with our red crop :)

12 Jul 2017 21:44:56
Keita is very close to being done, reports now coming out.

Believable7 Unbelievable8

12 Jul 2017 22:23:54
Nice to see the boys back in action even if it was a fairly routine performance. I thought I'd give a mention to a few who stood out.

Ojo looked bright in the first half, I don't remember him being this quick, nice to see he played with the first teamers too. The same can be said for TAA and Grujic, all 3 were out best performers in the first half imo with Grujic's goal a really fine strike, TAA's delivery into the box was superb too.

Second half threw up a few surprises, none more so than Flanno, he wasn't under any real pressure but he linked up well down the left which was nice to see. Kent looked full of confidence and his direct play was a nightmare for their defence. Woodburn looked tidy as ever, linking up well and tucked away his penalty nicely. the most impressive for me though was Solanke, it seems crazy he's only 19! He looks strong, quick and his technique and dribbling were superb, very unlucky not to score on two occasions, looks like we have a real gem on our hands there.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

12 Jul 2017 23:05:16
Hopefully the ed's can add the second part, accidentally sent it before praising Solanke.

{Ed007's Note - Is that it mate?}

12 Jul 2017 23:51:00
Cheers ed 007!

{Ed007's Note - No probs.}

13 Jul 2017 03:49:41
In the second half, the player who stood out the most for me, was Marcovic. He was just awful.
Excuses can be made about it being first game/ no fitness or whatever, but he stood out to me as worse than all the rest and they can all use the the same excuse for mistakes and such. But hiss first touch was incredibly abysmal every time 😩.

12 Jul 2017 21:37:07
Why do we need new left back Flanagan was great second half.

Believable4 Unbelievable11

12 Jul 2017 22:04:09
Cant go on one half against Tranmere mate.

12 Jul 2017 22:13:51
Pre season friendly vs Tranmere, or any opposition for that matter probably not the best thing to base not needing a LB on.

We most certainly do need a new left back.

12 Jul 2017 22:13:52
I wondered how long it would be.

12 Jul 2017 22:37:30
Why do we need any new defensive enforcement or even any more players right? We only scraped fourth and won nothing and play more matches next season.

12 Jul 2017 22:43:51
I personally think Flano is much better at right back, don’t forget we want a left footer for a lb/ lwb and Flano is right footed.

12 Jul 2017 20:41:54
Hi all new poster but do come here and read alot. I have question for everyone.

I have been reading a lot that people don't like us spending big money on player but I see time after time Chelsea Arsenal ManU Man City paying big dollars for player like it's going out style. We paid like 37 mill for Salah and other teams spend 2 to 3 times that much. Why we so mad when Liverpool try to get a player for a lot of money? .

Thanks.

Believable4 Unbelievable4

12 Jul 2017 21:21:28
Clone, its mainly cos there are a bunch of fans who'll complain about anything.
But on the realz, I like the eds advice of not worrying about finances.

13 Jul 2017 01:13:42
We spend as muh as everyone else. Take agent fees for example, we definitely pay the most in that regard.

13 Jul 2017 00:33:05
There are four types of fan. Those who want us to compete with the big boys and spend stupid money on players.
Those who don't want us spending stupid money in players when there's bargains to be had.
Those who criticise every player were linked with/ buy.
Those who overhype every player were linked with/ buy.
Personally I'd like us to keep up with the big boys while finding bargains. Now I don't want us signing poor players but if we do I'm sure they'll be awesome.

12 Jul 2017 20:22:38
Those who want AOX should take a look at Grujic. 6 ft tall, aggressive offensive ACM.

Believable11 Unbelievable3

12 Jul 2017 20:33:35
After last preseason I was hoping to see more of him but we didn't, if he keeps playing like he is tonight he must be given a chance, everytime I see him play he looks brilliant.

12 Jul 2017 20:34:04
And scores 25 yards screamers.

12 Jul 2017 20:35:03
zzzzzzzz boring. Completely different players.

12 Jul 2017 20:36:18
Agree with this. Bags of potential.

12 Jul 2017 20:37:12
Grujic is definitely the pre season king lol. Hopefully gets a better crack this season. TAA will push Clyne all the way aswell, showing much more going forward in the short 45 minute stint.

12 Jul 2017 20:41:22
Those of you who want to avoid a broken record hate campaign against a potential Liverpool player, don't read Harry's posts.

12 Jul 2017 20:49:05
And just scored an absolute blinder. He looked good during last pre season and has started off well again. If he carries on like this he will give Klopps something to think about.

12 Jul 2017 20:49:36
Can't really compare them, different type of player.
I do like grujic though, hopefully he stays fit this season

That header against Barcelona was superb.

12 Jul 2017 21:04:22
And knows how to play there. The boy has real game intelligence.

12 Jul 2017 21:32:34
No one needs to compare both, Just that we keep Grujic and avoid the accident i. e. AOX. The team has no more place for an Attacking midfielder!

12 Jul 2017 21:50:09
Grujic scored a cracking goal tonight at Tranmere.
A good run out for the players. Two different LFC teams in each half.
Solanke looks a great prospect.

12 Jul 2017 22:28:10
Grujic will never get a chance if we keep stockpiling midfielders.

12 Jul 2017 23:13:01
Grujic is 6'4.

13 Jul 2017 02:21:46
Sad thing if that is the case.

Cheers.

12 Jul 2017 19:11:59
Hi all, quick question for Ed01 if you're around, with TAA starting the first half against tranmere tonight with what looks as though our strongest line up, would you say that's a strong hint that starting right back for the season is his to lose now depending on per season performance? I know a lot for all positions will be based on performance but more he's in the driving seat now?

Believable0 Unbelievable7

{Ed001's Note - it is a preseason friendly, it means nothing.}

12 Jul 2017 19:55:55
That is no way our strongest line up.

12 Jul 2017 18:33:49
I cannot actually believe some are still making a CB one of our our priority signings?

You people do realise that this 'priority' CB will still have to baby the likes of Clyne?

The current state of fullbacks at Liverpool is probably bottom of the pile in the League.

Why on earth we are not being linked with quality fullbacks is completely absurd.

According to Opta our fullbacks Clyne and Milner overlapped far more than any other fullbacks in the League last season yet the end product is pitiful.

Quality fullbacks left and right should have been the very first hurdle the club should have cleared yet we have been chasing a CB and a CM which are unlikely to happen.

Mind boggles.

Believable8 Unbelievable11

12 Jul 2017 18:38:50
Just to let you know Lucas is playing centre back versus Tranmere tonight. Agree we need full backs. But a quality centre back is just as important.

12 Jul 2017 19:03:31
Fullbacks should be priority but I think worst in league is a ridiculous statement.

12 Jul 2017 19:04:04
WE need an entire new backline but te manager has different plans!

12 Jul 2017 19:06:56
I think Klopp is interested in wingers for that purpose (overlapping and putting balls into the box) . This would allow the likes of Cyne and whoever ends up playing left back to focus on defending. If this is the case I would still expect another winger to be bought before the window shuts, to add depth in this department.

12 Jul 2017 19:11:24
We went on something like a 13 game unbeaten run with Matip and Lovren last season.

Lovren on his day lives up to the best. Matip should be settled in too now. Klavan has his brain farts but also had some sublime performances last season.

The sore thumb that stuck out time and time again was seeing both Clyne and Milner being caught out of possession last season and when they got forward absolutely nothing materialised. Clyne's passing makes one want to eat raw broken glass at times.

Our current CB's can still cut the grade. With quality fullbacks both Lovren and Matip will do less wiping of the behind on the left and right.

12 Jul 2017 19:21:18
"I think Klopp is interested in wingers for that purpose (overlapping and putting balls into the box) "

When fullbacks are an integral part in Klopp's system for providing width? Which team have you been watching?

It is not like Mane is hugging the touchline.

Our 'fullbacks' which I am not sure they can be classified as overlapped more than any other fullbacks in the League last season. That tells you something about how integral those two positions are to Klopp and is why it is mind boggling why Klopp has not addressed the issue of bring quality fullbacks, one with a left and another with a right peg to complete the puzzle.

12 Jul 2017 19:59:14
I'm guessing the 2 people who thumb downed my comment are big fans of Lucas at centre half 😱.

12 Jul 2017 20:00:06
Where Clyne and Milner not part of the defence that went on that 13 game unbeaten run?

12 Jul 2017 20:14:00
I'm confused, you recently said we should give Flanagan a chance yet you want to spend a fortune on a new RB? We also have TAA who will hopefully break into the first team this season, how does he get game time?

I agree that we need a new left back but Milner had 3 assists last season, Bertrand only had 4, to call Milner's end product pitiful is embarrassing. If he was left footed this wouldn't even be a discussion.

For me a priority is a centre back, Lovren may be brilliant on his day but he can also be very erratic, we need someone more consistent at CB.

I trust that Klopp knows what positions he needs to upgrade!

12 Jul 2017 20:14:40
Sorry, I meant wingers for getting in behind and putting the balls into the box. I think lack of options in those wide positions puts a lot of pressure on the fullbacks to get in behind and deliver, but with Mané and the signing of Salah, and the pace they possess, we will not necessarily need to rely on wing-backs the same way we did last season (in particular when Mané was injured) . I just have a feeling that Klopp will address the problem this way next season.

12 Jul 2017 20:39:11
I wouldn't be bothered if we didn't get a CB. Just aslong as we get a LB.

Happy to go with Lovren and Matip and Gomez as backup. It's a complete dream but if we could get Mendy would really make our team a lot stronger. I know it won't happen but would rather that than VVD.

12 Jul 2017 21:03:23
Lovren on his day lives up to the best. I almost chocked on my tea then. Fair play 😂.

12 Jul 2017 21:24:50
It won't take much for our starting CB to become klavan-gomez if we don't improve tht crop as well. They're both prioroties, yes perhaps fullbacks are more so. But the recruitment plan might not work out according to urgency, but rather dependent on quality of the available options.

12 Jul 2017 21:55:36
Why is it, that when ever the opposition wins a corner or set piece, I sit there thinking, we are not going to defend this.

It's because the defence is not good enough and we always concede.

I'm not the only one, you can feel the anxiety in the stands/ kop re the above .

12 Jul 2017 22:15:12
Watched our season review on Sky store today and reminded me how much we need a new CB. Lovers and Clyne both guilty of errors leading to goals.

12 Jul 2017 23:59:01
Lovren has a 'hero' complex. Always tries to make that last ditch tackle to be the hero. Unfortunately he mistimes or completely misses more often than not and most of time he doesn't need to do it - too far from box, not last man etc.
I just wish he'd stay on his feet.

12 Jul 2017 18:03:57
I see a lot of people losing their minds because our rivals are signing left right and centre and we're "dragging our heals". Let's look at this claim in a bit more detail:

Man City - came out of the blocks early with 2 signings about a month ago. NO SIGNINGS SINCE

Arsenal - signed kolsinac and lacazette. 2 signings so far for 1st team (1 more than us)

Chelsea - have signed no-one thus far with bakayoko imminent so 1 player

Utd - bought a cb and doubled 75mil on Lukaku who doesn't strengthen them from last season as he's just replacing the departing ibra

Spurs - HAVE SIGNED NO ONE

Everton - calm down everyone, they've signed a lot of people but it smacks of our days under Rodgers where we bought 6-7 people. If we signed the players they have so far you'd all be going crazy talking about mediocre signings. I think people are getting carried away more because of the price tags.

Not one single one of our targets has been signed elsewhere yet.

Remind me why people are losing it?

Believable17 Unbelievable3

12 Jul 2017 19:34:59
We could do with a left, right and centre.

12 Jul 2017 19:59:07
87red totally agree well sed. It's not just our rivals who aren't making a move the whole of the premiership is quiet at the moment.

12 Jul 2017 20:58:04
I think it has gone quiet because those involved in transfers aren't quite sure of just how much prices have gone up. We were lucky to get Salah done early and at a relatively reasonable price. But now, with Everton looking to sign Sigurdsson for 50-60 mil- can anyone really put a price on a player with a reasonable degree of certainty?

12 Jul 2017 21:10:09
Am I the only one who thinks Lukaku is an improvement on Ibra?

12 Jul 2017 21:35:44
Lukaku strengthens manU no doubt. I get the doubt given his record. but he has a far better goal scoring record than any striker we have. And perhaps if we had him banging in goals vs the lower table teams we'd have had a few titles.
Also that he is "merely" replacing zlatan is really strengthening them cos it basically ensures they aren't weakened by his departure. Its a great signing for me and I think his game and his maturity now will be a good match for mourinho.

12 Jul 2017 22:26:03
Chelsea have signed Rutiger btw. Besides they are the Champions and Spurs have basically finished top two last two seasons. Compared to us they don't need to improve, but they will sign players.

Utd and City have improved their squad. We finished fourth by a point, if you don't think the two signings Arsenal have made wouldn't give them that extra point you're wrong.

Everton are making massive strides and addressed the areas they were weakest.

We've been weakest at full back and defence for a while and this hasn't been addressed. So the other six around are getting better while we stand still. Salah will not make us a guarantee 4th. If it stays as is we're battling Everton and no doubt a surprise side for 6th.

12 Jul 2017 22:29:41
Zlatan + Rooney > Lukaku.

12 Jul 2017 17:05:38
Ed. As far as you are aware have we done ................

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to get dragged in to this stuff, sorry.}

12 Jul 2017 17:43:33
Ok mate no problem. I shouldn't of asked tbh was just a bit concerned because of previous.

12 Jul 2017 16:37:25
We still need 3 players IMO. A quality centre back that doesn't cost 30 plus million never mind 60, a quality left back and a top class midfielder. Those positions need seriously strengthened if we want to actually compete next season.

Believable6 Unbelievable2

12 Jul 2017 17:21:41
Who's this quality centre back that costs less than £30m? I completely agree on positions though, if a top class forward became available such as Mbappe or Auba I think they would be quality additions too but otherwise those three positions are a must or we'll face similar defensive problems next year.

12 Jul 2017 18:25:56
Sturridge and Firmino are quality.

12 Jul 2017 19:08:31
Top quality = Top price!

{Ed001's Note - not always. That is why clubs employ scouts, to try and find top quality for less.}

12 Jul 2017 19:13:26
We practically have signed a top class midfielder (providing he stays, fingers crossed) . The signing of Salah will mean that Coutinho will have to play in midfield. To me that is just as good as signing a top midfielder.

12 Jul 2017 20:05:32
Very difficult to find top quality on the cheap but Liverpool have done it before such as Coutinho, Hyypia, Suarez (cheap enough considering) . It certainly can be done. The only difference is Liverpool usually offset that good work by buying Benteke, Carroll etc etc.

12 Jul 2017 20:39:06
I agree with your positions but not your logic. Why does a quality CB have to cost under 30 million? Would a player of that caliber even be an upgrade on what we already have?

12 Jul 2017 22:39:36
Because I'm sick of these ludicrous prices mate this window. It's actually infuriating yet the fans justify just about any madness. Why not pay 80 million, hell why not even 100 million for van dijk or a centre back like him?

12 Jul 2017 14:46:47
If anyone needed proof that papers just drum up interest and spread nonsense; the latest story from the likes of the Independent proves it,

'Liverpool get a boost in pursuit of Naby Keita as he likes an instagram post of him in a Liverpool shirt'

The above is proof alone why this site and this site alone is the only one I trust on transfer information!

Believable11 Unbelievable4

12 Jul 2017 16:41:08
Tell me that the papers saying 'lfc falsifying documents and tapping up a kid, leaving him and his parents in debts and unattached' is not true?

12 Jul 2017 18:03:09
First I've heard about that Alhassan, That's shocking.
Are Liverpool even trying to even sort this matter out?

More stories coming out of the woodwork about us, it's upsetting.

12 Jul 2017 21:17:33
Alhassan it's been on these pages before that we screwed the kid over hence our ban for academy players. Of course the papers say some truths the majority is just trash.

12 Jul 2017 14:22:34
Dear Ed002 - Can you give us your take on what the striker situation with LFC is? Do you see either Origi, Sturridge, Ings leave- on loan or sale (Sturridge)? If this were to happen, what kind of replacement would happen? Gelson Martins as striker role?

Thanks in advance.

Believable0 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - I would have expected Sturridge to be moved on and a replacement taken on. Obviously Solanke is now at the club which leaves them well stocked. I do not see Gelson Martins as a striker at Liverpool.}

12 Jul 2017 15:27:53
thanks Ed002.

Much appreciated 👍🏼.

12 Jul 2017 14:21:34
Nice i like that. Saw a comment of somebody saying they didn't like it? Smart as hell I'll be getting it.

12 Jul 2017 14:45:39
Yeah that was me, just a bit too orange for my liking. Some similarities to the 2001 shirt I guess. I'm sure it will grow on me. But it's not an instant hit like the home one was.

12 Jul 2017 14:48:53
I quite like it, it reminds me of the Dutch national side shirts which I've always bought when they are orange and black.

12 Jul 2017 15:59:26
It might be a way of getting gini to score away? Tricking him into thinking he's playing at home with the Netherlands.

12 Jul 2017 17:25:23
I think the triangle on the collar is a bit pointless but overall it's pretty nice, couldn't be any worse than our third last year that's for sure!

12 Jul 2017 13:34:46
Hey guys.
So I have set up a Fantasy league for this page and all others. It's a classic public league.
The game is located at fantasy.premierleague.com
The code to join this league: 15240-12211.
It's titled Football Rumors League.

We had about 750 members two years back. So hopefully we can cross a thousand this time.

Apparently Chelsea have.

I'd just like to add my opinion on the whole striker debate while it's a hot topic here. I personally think the same people saying we don't need a new striker who is a good goalscorer are the same ones that come Christmas will be complaining that sturridge is always injured and that firminho isn't getting enough goals. Don't get me wrong I like both lads but it's a recurring theme that will most likely happen again next season if past seasons is anything to go by. Our squad offensively is definitely good enough to get top 4 again next year but is that what we want? Or do we want the title, not a title push, the actual title and a decent run in the champions league? That's what I want and have wanted for the last 20 odd years! To get that I think we need a striker who is fit for the majority off the season and gets goals like what we had with Torres and suarez, someone who can not only push firminho but who can also play alongside him in the games against teams who sit back and allow firminho to play in behind even like he did before he moved to us and press defenders and work hard in that position.

I think we should give up chasing a cm, Keita isn't going to happen and we gave enough cover in that area, if the Ox can be gotten at a small fee because of the contract stuff going on then great he can cover a number of positions and add depth with the more games we will hopefully have to play this year if we go far in all competitions but other than that we really should just look to offload players who klopp obviously feels aren't needed ie sakho and moreno and add the top class striker, a cb, and a lb who is an upgrade on what we have. Other than that I would be pretty happy with the team and hope that the goalkeeper and back 4 gel more this season and with added coaching and stability get more clean sheets and allow our forward players to get the goals to win games.

Just my personal opinion feel free to disagree or add your opinion as a reply. Thanks eds for keeping up the work.

As long as the team are scoring plenty of goals I couldn't care if Migs was CF.

12 Jul 2017 13:23:36
I was reading a an article I think in the echo saying that in the first two seasons from firmino and Suarez it is neck and neck in terms of goals and is this the season firmino takes the strides that Suarez did and kicks on in terms of goals now he is used to the premier league.

12 Jul 2017 13:49:14
Well jamsey in suarez first 2 seasons he got 21 goals In 52 apps and firmino has 23 in 90 so that is quite a big difference to me I hope he does push on more this season and get closer to 20 goals or so because when u look around Costa got it for Chelsea, kane for spurs, sanchez for arsenal, ibra for united etc so I would just love for us to get that classic number 9 in who can hit the ground running and be that person for us that when a game is kicking off u nearly expect him to score before each 90 minutes is up!

12 Jul 2017 15:19:46
Firminio is not the classic center forward 9 but he would get to use that on his Jersey.

It reminds me of bogdan for some reason.

12 Jul 2017 11:49:51
There is a view on this page that you need a striker who can score 20+ goals in order to win the premier league.

This is not true.

I've seen a few people comment "no team has ever won the premier league without a 20 goals season striker". Wrong.

In fact, only half of all the Premier League champions since the start of the competition in 1992-93 have had a 20-goal-a-season player, 52%.

But putting the stats aside, the point is Liverpool score enough goals and our issue is defending and reducing the number of goals we concede.

Believable8 Unbelievable3

12 Jul 2017 12:01:10
It's more complicated than that. In recent years it's become far more common to have a prolific scorer but when a title team have won without one the team has had a very tight defence to compensate. We certainly don't have that.

If we want to win the title we need to score more, concede less or do a mixture of both.

12 Jul 2017 12:03:34
Good post that. My only point on this would be we miss a world class finisher playing week in week out. Last season the games we lost we probably averaged 20 shots a game. A world class finisher needs half a chance and will win you them games.

12 Jul 2017 12:31:53
harry kane on 29 goals wasn't enough for spurs. football is a TEAM game and needs everyone doing their bit.

12 Jul 2017 12:52:30
Even two times 20+ goalgetters wasnt enough for us to grab it in 2014.

12 Jul 2017 13:44:13
Exactly Smed.

That year we had TWO 20+ plus! And we didn't win it because of defence.

If there is spare money available for a CF after CB and LB then by all means but not a priority.

12 Jul 2017 15:45:15
But them 2 scorers led us the closest we've ever been to the premier league title. So your point kind of falls short sorry Gents.

12 Jul 2017 16:07:42
But we didn't win it, that's whole point!

Which means it's unlikely we will win it again until we fix our defence!

12 Jul 2017 17:00:05
Agree we probably won't win it until we fix our defence. But at the same time I wouldn't turn down a 20 + a season goal scoring striker. Maybe the games we lost last year after having 20 odd shots may have turned out differently.

12 Jul 2017 17:44:41
Rather have the top trio on 18 goals each than 30-12-12. Gives a more unpredictable look to opponents, less sensitivity yo injurys.

12 Jul 2017 18:06:37
That's definitely something for the front 3 to aim for. But as it stands only 1 of our forwards who can play front 3 has ever hit 18 premier league goals and that was Sturridge 3 or 4 years ago.

13 Jul 2017 14:05:11
Its not though. Your always going to conceed. Its just always going to be apart of your game.

On the other hand. Those draws thay you get. The times yoy can't score. Tbe two months between jan and feb when we could buy a win.

A suarez uo top solves half of that, eaaily.

Your kidding yourself if yoy think we can win the league with firmino

Cou, lal, mane and firmino aren't really going to get much better than last year.

15, 13, 14 and 11. that's solid numbers for them. We finished 4th. Add auba with 30 goals a season on too of 3 of those abd where do we finish.

Wheb you say half of teans didn't have a 2o goal stiker, do you mean they had a 2o goal mid. Or the striker was on 18/ 19.

Drogba, shearer, sutton, henry, rooney, ronaldo, tevez, aguero, wright, nistel, cole, bergkamp, vardy, costa, berbatov, RVP.

then there's 20 ish goLs outputs from thr ljkes of lamps, mahrez, hazard etc

Easily put your not winning the league with 20 goals from someone.

I dobt personally see our frint line getting better outputd than last season, aa tbey where already terrific.

13 Jul 2017 14:13:04
16/ 17 - Costa 20
15/ 16 - Vardy 24
14/ 15 - Costa 20
13/ 14 - Toure 20 (plus aguero 17)
12/ 13 - Van Persie 26
11/ 12 Aguero 23
10/ 11 - Berbatov 20
09/ 10 - Drogba 29

I'm not saying we need to buy a striker - but I think one of them needs to step up, sturridge or firmino for us to win the league.
I'm also not saying a 20 goal a season player wins you the league, but there hasn't been one without since 08/ 09 (19 goals) .

12 Jul 2017 11:36:54
Morning Eds. How does the process of a transfer bid actually happen? Do the club offer an opening bid directly to the club or is it all done through Agents? From an outsiders point of view it seems it's done through the media! Obviously this is not the case but I'm intrigued to know how the initial bid is submitted. Thanks eds.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - The process should be along the lines of: Clubs will typically informally ask an agent (a) if the player is going to be available, and (b) would the player consider a move to the club. There may be some broad discussion on the sort of deal that would be offered but no more than that. If the answer is yes, it is then necessary for the club to approach the player's club to ask if they would be willing to sell and if they would grant permission to speak to a player's agent formally about a transfer and possibly even the player about actually making a move. This will typically involve either broadly (through an offer) or actually agreeing a fee and responsibility for any significant costs (agents fees etc.). Once this has happened the club will be able to speak to the player's agent and perhaps the player himself to look at the package that will be involved. Many players are looked at and discussed at a high-level with agents and clubs; a subset of those have an offer placed; a subset of those involve discussions with the player's club; a subset of those involve discussions over terms, and; a subset of those go ahead.

Agents will often try and get more specific details of wages and other financials before they should - but most clubs are happy to follow this process. Players will often talk to other players about moves but, whilst wrong, is tolerated as it would be impossible to manage.}

First time post so please be kind!

If the papers are to be believed (which I appreciate, is in itself is a bit of an oxymoron) Aubemeyang has been offered to Chelsea for £65m, shouldn't we be looking to offload Studge and sign him?

It would be the marquee signing all the fans want, would make an amazing forward line with the players we have and whilst I do actually quite like Studge as a player, he is too soft and always looks for the medical bench, and therefore can't be relied upon.

I personally would also like to see us sign a much better Keeper too as I'm not convinced bubble karius and Mings just costs us games.

Given we appeared prepared to sign VVD for a similar (ish) figure, wouldn't the clubs money be better spent on someone seriously top draw? I appreciate his wage demands would be huge but I can't imagine Studge is on £4.50 and a twix a week :)

My overriding concern, is this seems the first season we are looking to spend the sort of money the clubs we are chasing spend, but unless we go balls out on signings, I fear we are always going to be at least a season behind those teams on quality and forever playing catch up. I just want to see us win the League again like the good old days!

What are the Eds thoughts? (By the way Eds and Macca, I have been regularly watching this site for a long time now and am really impressed with the work you do for us supporters, so thank you :)

Believable0 Unbelievable8

{Ed002's Note - I think it unlikely that Liverpool would look to sign Aubameyang.}

12 Jul 2017 11:21:14
Personally I'd rather keep Sturridge and use him along with Firmino as our main strikers. Spending £65m+ on a striker seems illogical when we have an attacking line up like we already have.
Also I think if we were going to sign a striker, Morata seems to be available and is cheaper.

12 Jul 2017 11:35:05
Madrid want £70+ for Morata actually. The best value striker on the market was Lacazette by a mile.

12 Jul 2017 11:37:20
Don't think we really need a marquee signing, much rather us signed a decent lb than a striker, it's not like we struggled for goals last season.

12 Jul 2017 11:57:57
I don't like opportunity signings, especially ones in an area we don't need. Let's spend our money where it will have the biggest effect, on our defence.

12 Jul 2017 12:05:49
I like Sturridge but he only tends to feature in a third of a season if that, due to injuries or not being selected. Imagine our team with a striker who plays week in week out and only needs half a chance to score.

12 Jul 2017 12:52:16
Besides, apparently Klopp and Aubemeyang really saw eye to eye, so I doubt Klopp would want him back.

12 Jul 2017 12:58:50
If we sign a marquee striker he's going to want to play every game. Then what happens to Firmino? He's not just there for goals, we have enough goals from the other attack minded players, he's there for his work rate, his press from the front is so effective none of the strikers above that cost 60-70 million will give us that. We lose what klopp wants in his striker. Balotelli can stick the ball in the net, Benteke can stick it in the net too. they're not the type of player Jk wants upfront, Firmino is!

12 Jul 2017 14:14:11
Never going to happen why even discuss it.

Morning Eds
Hot off the press that we doctored/ falsified the signature date of that young lad from stoke from Sept 2nd to Sept 21st before submitting same, I know that we have a transfer ban on our underage level but what do you think could happen due to the fact that we as a club have forged documentation to suit ourselves? Would any action or added transfer ban be souly aimed at our underage recruitment or could it affect the whole club .
Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - As I have been explaining in recent weeks it is a complex situation with a couple of smoking guns - there is another to come as well.}

Sorry ed just tried the search engine and have read what already has been posted about this, old news it would seem but new to me sorry for wasting your time but thanks for answering same anyways just hope the repercussions don't involve a complete transfer ban on the club .

{Ed002's Note - I understand from others that there has been an item published in the press about it recently. It is leading up to a court case that Liverpool are looking to avoid - without getting themselves in to other problems. The other smoking gun would at that point come out and it is a potential major issue for the club.}

12 Jul 2017 10:50:25
Hopefully it will lead to a decrease in corruption within the game. Would love a clean up, even if the initial effect on LFC is negative. 🤝.

{Ed002's Note - This is not corruption per se Ron.}

12 Jul 2017 11:36:26
The whole thing was embarrassing quite frankly. The club should be actively doing everything to put this situation right for the kid.

12 Jul 2017 11:54:15
Would you be at liberty to disclose what this smoking gun could be Eds or is it better to let sleeping dogs lie and hope it never comes out .
Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I am not going to discuss it.}

12 Jul 2017 13:06:55
No bother hope it stays that way because by the feeling I'm getting it will cause major damage to the club in more ways than anyone can imagine.

12 Jul 2017 09:17:06
One for Ed002. If you are able to do so in your opinion is the complexity of signing players becoming a greater problem due to image rights, multi party ownership and the legal issues relating to employment law. Plus, are the club's sufficiently able to navigate these issues themselves or outsource experts to do so. Cheers Evo.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - (1) Image Rights: No not particularly but some clubs get in to a mess if they are not careful - and Liverpool are a prime example of a club that is still embroiled in this mess. The example is Lazar Markovic and the payments Liverpool are making to Lanigan Management Limited of about £600k per year through to June 2019 (regardless of whether he leaves or not but thyey have to pay it up if he does) for use of his image rights. Obviously they have been of zero use to the club. (b) Third Party Ownership: Effectively banned since 2015 but there are still residual issues in Portugal and significant issues in South America that won't go away so easily. Ranges from fairly simple situations where two clubs share the economic rights to a player (very common in South America) that can be resolved, through ownership being tied to companies based on small islands in the West Indies to the strange case of a tiny Uruguayan side Deportivo Maldonado and and London-based Stellar. It is unusual and something that the football authorities would like to end. It is embroiled in an investment company called the Stellar Group who financially control Deportivo Maldonado, a Uruguayan side with no real facilities and a small fan base. They legally hold (or have held) the rights to a number of players who are high profile (Jonathan Calleri, Alex Sandro and Pablo Osvaldo all come to mind) and were "purchased" and then sold on at a significant profit to the London-based investment company and the agent who deals with most of these players, Gustavo Arribas, who is also the Director General of the Argentine Intelligence Agency. Manchester City would liked to have purchased Rulli outright but only 70% of his rights were for sale and he could therefore play in England. To overcome this, Manchester City sold their portion of his ownership and Deportivo Maldonado have sold part of their portion of his ownership (in reality Stellar's and Arribas' portion) to Real Sociedad and then agreed to sell the remaining 30% over a three year period to Real Sociedad to overcome Spanish rules regarding part ownership. Manchester City for their part in facilitating this has and agreement that they can buy the goalkeeper for something like €15m once he is fully owned by Real Sociedad (or for a cost of €15M plus a negotiated fee for the remaining rights). As with any buy back clause, they would need to any higher offer made by another side in the future. Rulli would not be eligible for a UK work permit but I understand that he will seek a European passport. That would be seen by the UK as a passport of convenience and would not help him. The player knew that if he moved to Manchester City he would have to be loaned out and eventually probably sold. Like Calleri, none of this is illegal but perhaps it should be - it is well beyond the third party ownership that is rife in South America. Deportivo Maldonado is a effectively a shell for Stellar and Arribas to exploit Uruguayan tax laws. (c) There are no real issues surrounding employment law per se but there are always difficulties dealing with variances in laws between countries - the Work Permit situation in England is stricter than many countries for example.

Clubs use standard contracts that are adapted with additional clauses by their legal teams to address such matter. In some countries intermediaries (agents/representatives) are required to have a qualified lawyer as part of their business.}

Judt a little note about maybe this Robertson lad coming from Hull. Now I remember player's coming to play for Liverpool that I never heard of before but I was so excited because they were coming to play for the club that I love. I also reserved my judgement until AFTER they had been playing for the club at least for one season. For all we know this young man could turn out to be a very good player for us. So let's see who we get and for God's sake let's give every player a chance and our support please.

Post of the week.

12 Jul 2017 09:51:07
It's the same with almost every signing mate. People whined we didn't go for Gotze and signed Mane instead. They whined even more when we signed Wijnaldum out of the blue. It's the cycle of transfer window. Hopefully Robertson can keep his critices quiet like the other two.

12 Jul 2017 10:24:27
It just gets a bit tedious at time's lad's. Giving some poor lad who hasn't even played for us yet dog's abuse. I remember when Titi, Jan Molby, Cisse, Gary Gillespie etc all played for Liverpool at various levels of success but they were all player's that I never heard of before they came to Liverpool but I was so excited when each one signed and I was and always will give every player every chance.

12 Jul 2017 10:52:35
Couldn't agree more with you Barry, I've said it before, I'm sure some of our "supporters" would find some reason to moan and complain if we signed Messi!

It is an unfortunate side effect of the internet and the amount of information and opinion available at a click of a mouse. It used to be that fans would be excited about a new player coming in because they had faith that the club would be bringing in someone that they had little to no knowledge of, but they trusted that they would be good enough for us or improve us, whereas now there is no trust that the club know what they are doing and the moment someone's name is linked to us they go on YouTube and "scout" the player or read some "expert's" opinion on him and make a decision there and then if they will be good enough for us.

Robertson is a prime example of this, because he is coming from an unglamorous team that got relegated and and he's not got a fancy name and a few people have written columns that he's not good enough for us then everyone is certain he is not good enough for us and will be poor signing.

I would put every penny I have on it that if we signed Sami Hyypia nowa days and put him straight into the first team our supporters would lose their minds and this site would crash with people moaning that we were playing a unknown CD who only cost £1m!

12 Jul 2017 11:06:20
The issue is that with so much football on Tv, youtube and the like that everyone has an opinion and think themselves as some sort of football expert. Personally, like me, i think they know very little. They never take into consideration how a new player will fit in with his team mates, style of play, mental attitude at a bigger club, new training methods etc etc. All things you need to overcome at a new team. Too many times you see good players fail and the so called not so good flourish. Best to wait and see imo.

12 Jul 2017 11:43:12
I've no issue with Robertson, as he is a lad that has worked his way up and improved at every level, plus he is definitely a left footed left back. I have an issue of buying a player like Oxlade, who isn't an improvement on anyone in our starting line up and is never worth the money being talked about. He has always looked like a player bereft of ideas when on the ball, as we'll as not having actually improved tangibly as a player since his debut. That people are talking about him as a central midfield player is baffling to say the least, given that he has been worse than woeful whenever he's played there before.

12 Jul 2017 12:20:03
Sami, Alan Hansen, Steve Nichol and Grobalaar did any of us hear about them before they came to Liverpool, this player bashing really has got to stop.

12 Jul 2017 14:19:46
Barry, your of the same opinion as me mate. Absolutely spot On, keep up the posts. Genuine Liverpool fans are hard to come by these days and it really wrankles me.

12 Jul 2017 09:36:03
Bucking a trend and posting twice in just over a week!

Looking through posts and been trying to work out weather there's a distinct age to when supporters stop asking why we haven't bid for every player bought by another club and asking repeatedly about the same players.
Seems to be mostly the same posters doing this. I'm in the over 40 age range so I can look through my normal coloured glasses and be sensible about my expectations. Suppose I was lucky enough to watch some of the greatest players to wear our shirt thanks to my dad's press pass.
Actually glad all seems to have gone quiet, means we have learned our lessons and stopped being parts in the market and starting to conduct any business with a modicum of respect for other teams or we aren't wasting money.
We have a saying in our house in regards to buying things. Do we need it or do we want it?
Liverpool should be doing the same, we don't need any players other than a voacl leader in the shape of a cb and a decent left back, maybe a right back but I'd like to see Milner and taa fight for it. I'd like to c a experienced lb and Gomez fight for lb.
Any other positions we don't need. Seen a few different figures for our debt but most seem to average at about £140 million, if rather we stopped buying positions we didn't need, spend what's right high or low to fix our problems and service our debt.
We have a good squad, couple of good solid defenders and we have improved. We have some really good prospects in our academy so use them through out the season.
I'd play them in the games against lower half of the league. We need players that will go into them sort of games willing to fight for their place instead of going in assuming they are better than the other team, we might even turn some of them draws into wins.
I know I go on when I lost, don't worry I'll stop again soon!

Long and short of it is sit back, wait and c what comes, ask your questions but please check the search box first as 9 times out of 10 someone has asked about 99% of the worlds players already.
In the mean time enjoy life as tomorrow always comes who ever we do or don't sign. It will soon be time for a lot of fans on here to switch between hating a player to loving a player, to switch between wanting klopp out to wanting klopps love child.
To the supporters far and wide above 30 our patience will be rewarded (I hope and dream)

Sorry lost the plot a bit there
Good luck eds there are some of us out here who read and use the search box, live your.

{Ed001's Note - cheers Llr, though I think you are fighting a losing battle on the search box!}

Great post
Not sure if it’s an age thing with the differences in how fans are, but probably too much FM/ FIFA xD
i’m 24 and i’ve never once jumped on the 'ManagerOut' or 'Owners Out' bandwagon, i’ve never dissed any signings/ potential signings although I have said "we do not need such an such"

I never really focus on other teams besides Liverpool so I do not judge any players except the ones wearing our badge. Through the window i’ll do some terrible "YouTube scouting" on players we get linked too, or have stood out to me whilst not even paying attention to them (watching random games or vs us)

Quite a lot of people probably do the same, watch 1 or 2 games of a player, then a couple 10-15 minute YouTube clips which don’t show any 'off the ball' work but they’ll all judge based on what they see.
Videos, for defenders/ midfielders, will never show a true picture of how good/ bad they really are.
And using FIFA stats is probably a lot of peoples downfalls too 😂😂.

12 Jul 2017 08:47:21
Looking as the team is shaping up of the season i hope we look at going out all attack strategy the one we had when suarez and studger were on song.
i don't think we really going to get sound defensively this season either. But we have the best attack in the league with firmino/ studger, mane, salah and coutinho and i hope we build our game around them. Our game should be passing the ball as quick as possible to any of those 4 and scoring goals.
We have to start games and probably end them before opponents get a chance to settle. If someone scores say 4 goals to beat us 4-3 i;d accept that but no more possession stuff and loosing 1-0 in the end that is painful to watch.
and we know with that team we won't be grinding out 1-0 wins at all. ( although we did during the end of last season but i think that was pressure)
all out attack sort of thing might not get us the league but would take us deep into the CL atleast.

Morning ed

I presume we have ended interest in Gelson Martins?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Given Salah has signed I suspect that Liverpool would not be chasing Martins.}

Been on here for a good while now but not posted until now.
Is it me or are you guys the same it's been a frustrating window so far for a change lol.
We don't seem to be doing a deal, I know things are happening in the back ground but we need to get a move on.
I'm constantly looking on various Liverpool sites but not a lot happening, mostly press crap.
Hopefully we will see some movement on the transfer front.

We've done 2 deals mate, and it's only 12 days in. Liverpool fans are impatient.

12 Jul 2017 09:21:09
We have broken our transfer record and signed the best player in the u20 world cup. i don't think that's too bad so far to be honest.

12 Jul 2017 09:35:11
I personally think Salah will be a good player but let's be honest he is a risk. Top player in Italy but sadly we don't play there. Solanke may not even get much game time. Only Klopp knows this. I understand that the window has only just opened and I'm not mowing about it but we have been told for years that we can't compete for top players due to CL. Now we have it, it doesn't appear like a lot has changed. We could have signed both these players without it and the Ox isn't exactly a step up. I think we all agree he is a squad player. So basically CL football is allowing us to get a squad player in. Anyone else feel that some of the stuff that comes out of the club is a bit having the fans pants down. Just my opinion.

12 Jul 2017 11:27:22
I agree Stevie, people are harping on about being impatient but all our rivals are certainly not hanging around. We've seemingly messed up our two main transfer targets and I've seen nothing to suggest we will be bringing in alternatives close to their level of quality.

The only player we are currently being linked with is Robertson, a player who I'm personally not keen on signing but will give my full support, otherwise it's looking pretty flat at the moment. We have the biggest opportunity to re-esatablish ourselves as one of the biggest clubs in the world that we've had in years with predicted CL football and we need to use this opportunity to bring in quality in the right areas or we'll be paying the price next season it's simple as that.

I wonder how many people on here remember we have signed two of the most highly rated youngsters in Europe for Gerrards U18s check them. Dal Varesanovic from Bosnia and Edvard Tagseth from Norway.

Like Suso, Ojo or Ibe?

Very difficult for youngsters to come through to the first team these days.

12 Jul 2017 06:46:18
So we shouldn't sign any talented kids then Ron?

12 Jul 2017 07:05:35
I heard about Tasgeth and all his reviews supposed him to be ahead of Odegaard at his age.
I also remember us signing couple more youngsters after the Tasgeth deal. Although I can't recall the names right now.

12 Jul 2017 07:20:11
Mentioning Suso though Ron is relevant as both the kids I mentioned are both small left footers who are very technically gifted.

12 Jul 2017 07:21:27
I heard about the Norwegian kid!

12 Jul 2017 08:55:11
Didnt we get a transfer ban for youth players or is the U18 not a youth team?

{Ed002's Note - I know nothing about the kids but any agreements eached before a ban can still go ahead. So if the agreement to sign these players was reached before the ban was in place then these players may still sign for the club.}

12 Jul 2017 09:39:09
The youngster I was forgetting about was Patrik Raitanen. Finnish Centre back and totally looks like Hyppia's son.

12 Jul 2017 10:55:32
It's an interesting question ChiefScout.
To be honest, what is the point in signing them if they aren't going to get the chance to break into the first team?
They're better off at a club which brings through youngsters with first team football.

It's a common problem with the top half of the premier league. You can only play 11 players at once, fans demand expensive new signings every window. Managers have to get results from day 1 so can't risk bringing a youngster through.

12 Jul 2017 05:15:32
Hello Eds, How do you rate our Lfc academy? When are we going to see someone break in to the first team to become a regular first team player.
Specially when we think about players like Gerrard and Carra.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - it is a good academy, but it takes a long time for the changes that are made to have a real effect on the players who break through. Usually around ten years. So it is impossible to say when someone will become a regular, as it usually comes down to luck at the end of the day anyway. TAA looks like he could well make it though.}

12 Jul 2017 05:33:41
Really appreciate your quick response ed.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

12 Jul 2017 07:14:19
TAA will be our captain for many years and will end up playing CM before too long, RB is just a stepping stone. The kid has all the talent of a young Stevie but is physically more imposing already and has the same mentality. I see him as one of the first names on the teamsheet before the end of this season.

12 Jul 2017 08:11:30
Don't put any pressure on the kid, eh!
Let's see if he can hold a place down in the first team before we label him the next Steven Gerrard.

12 Jul 2017 08:55:29
I agree Chief, I think we've finally found ' one of them' players in him. I also agree with flash, he has to live up to expectations which can be a bit too much for a youngster, let's hope he does. I think he'll be fine, he has the right mentality.
