It was Sakho's poor pass that made Stevie slip.

Believable2 Unbelievable11

12 Jan 2017 21:48:53
No-one made Stevie slip

12 Jan 2017 22:20:48
It was Stevie's poor touch which made him panic, which made him slip.

12 Jan 2017 22:41:32
Some amount of moderation time has gone in to that original historical post.

12 Jan 2017 22:44:56
watch Stevies pass again, its a heel pass, increasing the chance of a return pass, if Stevie had played the pass in front of Sacko, he might have made a couple of yards, then made a long pass across to the right wing area, so for me, its the first pass.

12 Jan 2017 23:11:49
You don't lose the title over 90 minutes 😠

12 Jan 2017 23:30:21
Can't blame stevie for us not getting the title. We had the most potent attack in the league, without question the best player in the league and probably for that season alone the two best strikers in the league. can't ask for more.

Also love stevie but if under pressure route 1 tactics is to boot then ball to row z. Personally think our biggest problem in the BPL era is having players who want to win at all cost. Ugly or pretty nothing matters more than the result. So if under pressure should have just booted the ball otherwise is a lapse in concentration.

12 Jan 2017 23:35:40
I blame mignolet. He let negredo soft shop go through him. And many other blunders which cost us.
One things for sure, we had it in our sights and lost it

12 Jan 2017 23:35:53
Ron

Sadly we did all those years ago at home to the Gunners

😢😢😢😭😭😭

13 Jan 2017 00:37:52
Erm ron you definitely lose the title over 90 minutes.

The whole point of the season is to get to that 90 minutes to win the title.

It will come within the final 5 games. Everything is all for that game.

Tonk united 500-0 in august do not matter.

The titles won in may.

If allen, hendo, Lucas or anyone else made that pass it qouldnt be accepted but you have to look elsewhere because it was stevie.

13 Jan 2017 02:01:24
And why are we litigating the past again?

13 Jan 2017 02:43:47
We lost the title over the course of the season not during those 90 minutes. If we had won more games and lost less games we would have had the title tegardless of Stevies slip or Sakhos pass. Its just as easy to say that the loss against Stoke earlier that year was the reason we didn't come first in May.
I blame the whole thing on Aspas as im sure he missed a sitter at some point which could have gotten us extra points.

13 Jan 2017 03:14:32
What about all the games we lost up until new years that year. Weren't we 5th at one point? Ron is spot on, that's the difference between league and Cup football. You can't really win or lose anything in a league game but 3 points.

13 Jan 2017 03:38:32
supermane i think what ron is saying is the league is not won or lost in 1 game, bt over 38 games.

so many 3-3s, 4-4s in that seasons, for games we should have won comfortably bt go on to concede soft goals, not 1 bt 3/ 4 in a game.

if we had won those games, stevies slip wouldn't have mattered. stevies slip was his fault, bt that doesn't mean u shouldn't look at the games before that. performances over the whole season determines where we finish at the end of the season, so the point still stands, u don't win or lose the title over 90 minutes, its a marathon not a sprint.

13 Jan 2017 04:58:31
Say for example that was the last game of the year and we needed to win to secure the title, do you think then that that slip then cost us the title?
I say no, how bout you!?

13 Jan 2017 06:28:29
So how do you think we will win the league this season. We are pretty much in the same position we were 3 years ago. Best attack followed by half decent defense.

13 Jan 2017 06:33:03
Ok, I'll qualify my post 😄
If 2 teams have both won 37 consecutive games and then meet each other in the last game of the season, then - and only then - do you win/ lose the title over 90 minutes.
In my mind, this eventuality has never happened.

13 Jan 2017 07:20:33
Of course it hasn't happened Ron. It is impossible for both teams to win their first meeting.

13 Jan 2017 07:32:17
Good, my original post was right then. 😎

13 Jan 2017 09:25:29
But they could draw! Super extreme examples and probably would only evwr happen in la liga. Imagine that draw both games against your rival and win every other game and only separated by goal dofference! Anywho, stevie slipped and it felt like a big moment at a crucial time in the title race

13 Jan 2017 10:26:55
Cmon lads

Some manc comes on trolling about ancient history and everyone bites! They were even chanting about it at the theatre of screams again the other night. still. Obsessed

13 Jan 2017 10:55:23
Steve Mcmahon is heard and seen to indicate 2 minutes to go in the last game of the season when we were already losing the game. We lost the title in the last 2 minutes in 1989.

13 Jan 2017 11:26:48
We lost the game in the 2 minutes 39 seconds of injury time on goals scored. Let's not argue about the 90 minutes played or the previous games played in the season. Fact Liverpool lost the title in 1989 in injury time. If John Barnes takes the ball to the corner flag instead of trying to get something out of the game, imo we win the title. Gerrards slip with 2 games to play had less impact on us winning the league than John Barnes being on the edge of the opponents box and trying to create a chance, rather than taking the ball to the corner flag and seeing the game out. I blame neither Gerrard or Barnes by the way. Just saying that the title can be lost in injury time, because it has.

13 Jan 2017 12:59:41
The title is won or lost over 38 games (based on 20 teams in the league) .

13 Jan 2017 13:03:41
All ifs and buts. if my Aunty had balls she'd be my uncle. move on Boys!

13 Jan 2017 13:07:25
Our defence was none existent (conceded 12 shots on goal per game) in 2014 compared to this season. We are not great but way better than we were in 2014.

13 Jan 2017 14:13:59
Utd won the champions league in the last few minutes after being played off the pitch for 85 minutes by Bayern Munich.

13 Jan 2017 14:32:32
If he hadn't slipped we would still have Rodgers.

13 Jan 2017 14:56:56
As elsa sang, let it go

16 Jan 2017 23:19:48
Real reason for the slip up was because Henderson, our young captain elect injured or banned?

12 Jan 2017 21:33:08
Payet to Liverpool. another case of wishful thinking, right Eds? FSG don't have the kind of money West Ham will be asking for him, so let's not even think about Payet joining Liverpool. I think he would give a fresh and exciting impetus for the rest of the season but Liverpool haven't shown that kind of ambition since the days of King Kenny's first managerial spell.

Believable0 Unbelievable12

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you are talking about at all. It is like some weird joke - a player is available and looking for a transfer and then it is all about "when will he join Liverpool?"}

12 Jan 2017 21:56:16
no thanks, baggage

12 Jan 2017 22:44:28
Yes, ed, at one time - many moons ago, it often occurred when we would sign the best, now, it appears that that mentality has been passed down through a generation, in which the naivety reeks of desperation.

12 Jan 2017 22:46:04
the man has a bad attitude, Klopp won't go there .

12 Jan 2017 23:12:35
Swap for Kirikou

13 Jan 2017 02:03:05
Payet has hinted that he wants to go back to Marseilles. The club has new owners with cash and a very good manager in Rudi Garcia. Wait and see.

13 Jan 2017 04:59:36
In my lifetime I can barely remember when we have signed "the best"

13 Jan 2017 06:29:17
He is nearly 30 and will cost in the region of £30 mill. No chance of happening!

{Ed001's Note - and has a terrible attitude.}

13 Jan 2017 06:55:26
his attitude stinks after all west ham have done for him, however he came with this reputation so it should not be a surprise to anyone familiar with his behaviour, Liverpool fc does not need his mentality anywhere near it.

13 Jan 2017 10:22:26
No thank you. We're set to offload 1 idiot we don't need another coming in.

13 Jan 2017 14:21:20
He's a prime candidate for China.

West Ham will cash in and also be well rid.

12 Jan 2017 21:20:00
Do any of the Ed's think we will sign anyone in January and if so who is most likely cheers
Dipper 96

Believable0 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - Read the posts.}

13 Jan 2017 06:59:55
I personally don't think we will sign anyone, selling players however we should be quite active in that area, finding a club for sakho should be our priority, he needs to be gone.

12 Jan 2017 21:10:44
as a celtic fan i'd just like to say its about time these 23 rats are going to be prosecuted over their corruption in the hillsborough tragedy its just a pity its took 28 years for it to happen we were with you then and we are with you now justice for the 96 may they rest in peace ynwa.

Believable32 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - well said james, im with you all the way mate..

12 Jan 2017 17:42:19
I believe we lost the league not because SG slipped but because we lost Henderson for three matches after being sent off against city. Our recent performances in my opinion have suffered because of his absence and demonstrates how important he is. i think we need to do whatever is necessary to prevent this

Believable32 Unbelievable1

12 Jan 2017 17:57:30
Our midfield is woeful without his energy.

12 Jan 2017 17:58:03
We lost the league coz we conceded far too many goals with or without Henderson that year. And we are still conceding into the 4th year!

12 Jan 2017 17:58:23
Totally agree.

{Ed025's Note - no laddie it was because of gerrard...now stop trying to ruin things for me mate.. :)

12 Jan 2017 19:42:13
I always thought it was Nasri's equaliser against Sunderland which kept the points pressure on the Reds. Another team got more points.

12 Jan 2017 19:44:11
Let's not forget kolo gave the ball to anichebe in injury time at west brom and he put it in the corner but it never gets mentioned to make it a draw . As much as I don't like Gerrard as a person we can't blame him for losing it for us

12 Jan 2017 20:36:52
It was gerrard end of.

And were hadrly dtill concedding 4 years laterm we have veen solid. Always going to conceed goals.

12 Jan 2017 21:23:01
We didn't need to play for the win against Chelsea in that game though, a draw would have suited us down to the ground. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though

13 Jan 2017 02:04:02
And we are re-litigating this again because?

13 Jan 2017 12:32:16
It is a collection of a no. of things overtime including the arrogance of our then manager. As for conceding, we concede a lot less than we did then so not sure what that`s about or do you want us to never concede cos that will never happen especially, with the way we play.

13 Jan 2017 13:11:05
ANY straw can break the camels back. It's just a matter of timing. Without the previous straws, each straw would make no difference.
All matches are worth three points, whether they are the first match of the season or the last. Without the previous wins, we wouldn't have been in a position to say 'Stevie cost us the league'. Without earlier slip ups we might have been far enough clear that it was still in our hands after the Chelsea game. It is purely timing. You get three points for a win in August and they are just as important as the three points you get for a win in May. It's just that in May the season is ending and what's gone before is a factor. A loss in August/ September is seen as less important cos there are loads of games left to 'make up for it'. Three points for every game boys. Get over it, it takes 38 games to decide a winner, not 90 mins, or 2 1/ 2 mins etc. Each straw is just as important or irrelevant as the last, it's just timing that foists importance on it.

13 Jan 2017 14:05:06
Hamilton, I'm with you mate, no idea why the past coals are being raked over. But why do you keep using the word litigate? More common in a legal setting these days.

12 Jan 2017 17:04:45
How many times have origi and sturridge started a match together, had the perfect opportunity in the last 2 matches for that as coutinho and mane where unavailable. At least we could have worked out if a plan B could work, could have firmino in the 10 role behind the 2, instead of playing players out of position.

Believable2 Unbelievable5

{Ed025's Note - im sure klopp knows what hes doing haji, i think most fans would take his view over yours anyway mate.. :)

12 Jan 2017 17:10:09
One of the best things Brendan rodges ever said as manager was "we don't need a plan b. We need to improve plan A. " Still valid now

{Ed025's Note - whats more valid jezza is that you kicked him into touch because he was an egotistical maniac mate..

12 Jan 2017 17:59:56
Brendan lost the plot when he played players out from their best position exactly what Klopp is doing right now. There are too many big names you simply cannot drop to the bench and need to fit in somewhere in the line up!

{Ed025's Note - are you saying that klopp is the same as brendan then harry?, come on mate get a grip...

12 Jan 2017 18:00:59
Both and a little more is necessary!

12 Jan 2017 18:52:27
I'm not saying klopp doesn't know what he is doing but sometimes it's worth playing 2 up top, especially against Plymouth, most of our football is played in the final third and there are not enough options up front and our players end up shooting from outside the box, as a front three firmino coutinho mane are perfect as they complement each other and can get in scoring positions, but currently 2 out the three where unavailable and lallana and firmino are wasted out wide.

12 Jan 2017 18:56:18
Wow Harry just wow!

12 Jan 2017 22:01:26
Ed's 025 playing a blinder today, if they keep lobbing them up, Ed's smash them down!

{Ed025's Note - i never miss an open goal marko, unlike studge.. :)

13 Jan 2017 02:08:24
Harry, comparing Klopp to BR in any way, is a new low even for you. And apart from Milner or Lucas for reasons that are understandable, who is Klopp playing out of position exactly?

13 Jan 2017 06:30:10
Hamilton

Lallana and Firmino!

13 Jan 2017 08:15:45
Many on here possibly yourself HBK (May be wrong) have stated we need a CF as Firmino wasn't a striker. Now if he's played on the wing he is out of position? Players were not in their best position but there is a subtle yet important difference. Anyone who Klopp has regularly played out of position has actually improved the team for me.

13 Jan 2017 10:07:01
Higgins

For some strange reason Firmino is ineffective on the flanks and Klopp has continued to play him there. He has 1 goal in 11 games and it's a poor stat for some one who was banging goals up down and center played up top.

Lallana was on the verge of exit until he was actually played in the midfield and for another strange reason he is now deployed in front three and you are seeing the old not good enough Lallana.

Firmino was never an out and out striker prior his love to Liverpool but that has changed and you can't blame him for becoming a striker now. Can you?

You can't swap players position until you are very sure about the positive outcome something Brendan had no clue during his regime!

Thanks

13 Jan 2017 12:24:30
I'd argue if Firmino can learn the striker role that quickly he has a good football brain and should easily be able to adjust back to playing out wide. He won't have forgotten everything else.
Our team as a whole works better with him central it seems though and I'm sure when everyone is fit we will see them playing in positions they excel most at where the team thrives. We had players out and changed things which didn't work rather than the constant tinkering of Brendan.

13 Jan 2017 13:12:18
Harry, you are confusing yourself and no one else. Lallana and Firmino are very intelligent players whose skill set allows them to versatile and flexible hence, play in different positions in the attack or in midfield.

Does that mean they can be great at both? No. It simply means they can be good at one position and much better at another. That is not playing players out of position. Playing players out of position is what BR did stupidly, in playing Lallana as a wingback or Can at FB, WB or CB. Learn the difference.

13 Jan 2017 13:17:02
No worries Higgins. We could keep playing him on the wings till he becomes a hazard.

13 Jan 2017 13:46:29
Sure Hamilton. I am going to save all your post. It will be needed in the future!

12 Jan 2017 09:21:47
Eds 25 and 42 I think we are now seeing how important Hendo is in the way klopp plays. It started when he went off against man city we then got over run because he let's the rest of the team play through his unselfishness. This is not a snipe Eds just my opinion

Believable5 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - he does along with mane give you energy and impetus ace, i think you can live without one of them but not the two and although he is lacking in the skill department jordan does give you that mate..

12 Jan 2017 17:05:50
He also brings leadership and the team is more focused and fluid when he is playing.

12 Jan 2017 17:48:35
Henderson is very skillful, just not during games. Watch one of those skill schools on utube from when he was at sunderland and you will see what i mean.

12 Jan 2017 22:04:05
did You See Arsenals Konchelsea (spelling) skill tricking in warm up the other day awesome.

12 Jan 2017 14:17:46
............ if that's okay with 002 and 001

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Sorry Benny, we are not going to go there.}

12 Jan 2017 14:30:38
Probably not the best place to have that discussion, I agree.

{Ed002's Note - Thanks.}

12 Jan 2017 13:16:06
I don't think that we played particularly bad last night, I just feel that the team selected sent a message of we'd be happy with a draw.

The midfield 3 in my eyes was the problem as there wasn't enough creativity. I feel like Gini and Can still haven't found out how to play together and although Lucas had a reasonably good game, playing him alongside the other two, there just isn't enough going forward. Especially with Bobby and Lallana out wide.

I feel like we may have been better suited playing Lallana alongside either Gini or Can and giving one of the young lads a chance on the wing. Obviously it does sound like captain hindsight, but i just thought i'd throw my 2 cents in there.

On another note, if Juve do have an interest in Can, although he is still growing and develop him I feel it would be foolish to get rid of him. Granted he doesn't always play to the standard we expect from him, but he's still learning a lot about the game. I feel that the fans at times are a little too hard on him. I think that he's still tying to find his best role/ position in midfield and we need to be patient and remember that he is still a young lad.

Thanks to all the ED's for the hard work put in on the site as well. Hope you all had a good new year.

Believable6 Unbelievable1

{Ed002's Note - I have explained about Can - please read the posts. Juventus have two well defined targets for that role.}

12 Jan 2017 13:51:31
Agree with your comments, Tom and as a Can fan, he didn`t have a good game and hasn`t done for a while. This could be cos he`s played the most minutes during this rigorous period or just having a slump in form or both. Was he the only one who had a bad game? Absolutely not. But he may just need a breather cos to be fair, he`s been a much better player than he was last season and he can score goals as well.

12 Jan 2017 14:35:54
Teams have find away to stop us just part thr bus

12 Jan 2017 22:51:57
way too many nice passes, but no cutting edge, they broke with pace and craft, which we should have done, we looked a bit slow, and that could have been sorted with a couple of changes, we had 3/ 4 players out of sorts .

12 Jan 2017 12:45:16
Could Gomes come in for Sunday?

Believable2 Unbelievable8

12 Jan 2017 13:31:47
No game is to big considering he has just come back from injury after 15 months and only played 1 first team game since being back against plymouth

12 Jan 2017 13:52:54
Are you sure you wanna put a 19 year old inexperienced player just coming off 15 months of injury and rehab, into the biggest game of the season on the road?

12 Jan 2017 14:51:19
Hendo is the engine of our team.

Hes becoming the vital cog of the whole set up.

All teams will have this lull we are still in a great posistion and are capable of hitting a 10 game winning run.

Fatigue is the only worrying factor given our high tempo style and no winter break to recharge batteries,

In an ideal world Danny Inges would have come in there last night. with his energy closing down from the front would have kept Southampton penned in and stopped the counter attacks

Its just not in Sturridges make up to play like that but he is a better finisher.
He great to bring on in the last 20 to make an impact but that's about it.

12 Jan 2017 15:44:04
Spot on, Dermot. One game at a time and stop with the doom and gloom after each negative result. It`s doing my head in.

12 Jan 2017 15:55:38
Depends how mentally mature and strong the guy is. He plays with maturity. I'm sure Klopp wouldn't have him on the bench last night if he wasn't fit enough. I think he could complement Lovren more than Klaven and Lovren can move back to the left where he is more comfortable. Age is just a number.

13 Jan 2017 02:14:23
There are diff. reasons why he was on the bench. That happens all them time with returnees from injury in order to make him feel as a part of the group. This happens all he time and it doesn`t mean he would play or come on. Lucas would have slid in if a CB went down as he`s more match fit than Gomez.

The boy has only had one game back and yet you want to put pressure on him from the get go cos he played a decent game vs a Plymouth side that parked the bus? He may be the next Vincent Kompany BUT allow the boy to grow on his own and at his pace before anointing him as the messiah.

13 Jan 2017 07:03:54
I hope he takes after kompany in the talent department not the continuous injury department HR.

12 Jan 2017 12:25:20
love all of the hindsighters on here slating the lack of using wilson ojo etc last night. they're exactly the same people who would be kicking off had klopp picked them and we lost, saying "it was too big a game to play the kids".

Believable8 Unbelievable4

12 Jan 2017 12:42:42
Your telling me that Ojos pace and Wilson, whos having a great under 23 season would not of made a difference. Saints dealt with everything we tried todo. We had no one running at the back four

12 Jan 2017 13:29:09
And if Ojo and Wilson had played poorly, you'd be saying it was too big a game for them and asking why we'd not played the first team.
No winning with some.

12 Jan 2017 14:02:41
Dorset, you mean like it did vs Plymouth where many on here were slating Klopp for not putting on a stronger team? That`s the thing with hindsighters (geniuses after the fact), they are never wrong.

12 Jan 2017 14:18:30
You can't predict the future nor the outcome but you can certainly plan for the future and based on your experience. Your predictions come a lot closer.

12 Jan 2017 15:00:29
Too many young lads and changes made against Plymouth.

Their players were up for it as it is rarely they will play at a stadium like anfield.

it was probably the biggest game of their careers.

Klopp will learn from this as will all the young lads used the other night.

We are blessed with talent in depth but is that the same as strength in depth?

12 Jan 2017 11:01:33
Hi Eds, i've scrolled through the posts and as always thanks for all the info! I was just wondering whether the eds actually expect liverpool to make signings in this window (if so will it be only 1 or 2) or are the management satisfied with what they have?

Thanks again for all the effort!

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - If they can find a player they want at the right price who is wanted and will improve the squad then yes. Else, it makes no sense to disrupt what is going pretty well right now. Again, if there are unexpected departures, then they will see what they can do.}

12 Jan 2017 10:24:47
I did wonder with how we play if we might feel the heat at some point, we looked tired to me last night,
I can't fathom also why we look great with Firmino as cf so why not stick to that and utilise what we have around him. Lallana is clearly no winger and we have young players who if they are good enough need time on the pitch, isn't that why we have a squad, I love Klopp he's the best thing to happen to this club for a long while but there are some strange decisions lately.
Im not getting the feeling we're looking much into the transfer market either so if these kids are not deemed trustworthy in the league cup then where is the depth coming from and why are they alwsys occupying the first team bench?
Other than that do any of the eds have any idea how young Allan is doing and if there is any chance yet of a work permit? Cheers folks onwards and hopefully upwards

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - For now there is not the possibility for a WP for Allan and it is hard to see how he will ever be used. Liverpool will not be afforded any leeway at all in his Work Permit application. However, they will likely try again in the summer.}

12 Jan 2017 10:38:56
Is the lack of leeway down to our lies regarding Grujic?

{Ed002's Note - Yes.}

12 Jan 2017 10:42:06
As i understood it ed we've caused enough nonsense with the promise of Grujic game time for his work permit is that right? Im not sure we're really looked on favourably in some of the games leading bodies, Id like to think someone might sort out a better system for our youth at some point even the signings often seem a bit scattergun, how many have we had in recent times that either didn't really play or got sent straight out on loan? Has nobody looked into our scouting network at all? Just often seems a very strange set up

{Ed002's Note - The scouting system was significantly revamped a couple of years ago and the scouting network has been tinkered with more recently - I am not aware of any issues with it.}

12 Jan 2017 12:20:36
Thanks ed appreciate that.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

12 Jan 2017 16:32:27
Isn't Grujic injured.

12 Jan 2017 19:31:04
I think Allan has been included in the latest Brazilian U20 squad. I don't know if it will help significantly with his work permit though.

{Ed002's Note - Not significantly.}

From what I seen last night, Can need to quicken his speed of thought and pass. He takes to many touches when they are not needed. Millie at left back has been great this season but again pace down the left and then getting into the final third play is slow/ stopped as he needs to cut back onto his right foot.

All round we looked like it was a training game, lack of pace in passing running etc. Could it be with the high intensity the team are starting to feel it abit? I don't Sunday.

I have full confidence that we will bounce back beat Man u and thump Southampton to reach the final.

I agree about Can and Milner; they were the most guilty of slowing us down. Milner- not the quickest anyway- continually cut back on his right foot and held the play up.
Can is just too slow and is touch was poor last night, as well. He runs about like a headless chicken at times when he's be better just holding his position.
He tries to look the part but too often it's a waste of energy and touches on the ball.
I thought Lucas did ok and is a better option in midfield than Can. Lucas is steady if unspectacular.
And I'd like to see Firmino play back through the middle and he think he could well do against United. I reckon it'll be a similar set up to the City game.

Massively agree; we are compromising our system for Can and he is not worth it, on recent form.
He can't play the Hendo role, as shown at Sunderland. He was dreadful there and we couldn't win.
He was distinctly average against Plymouth, where he should have completely dominated the play and proved his worth against massively inferior opponents (no disrespect intended) .
Last night, him playing meant Lallana was out of position, as well as Firmino, and all 3 were really poor as a result.
Also, Can and Lucas cannot play together. Both are too slow in possession.
I actually like Lucas, even in midfield, but Can is a huge problem right now.
We changed the system against Man City, with him in, and it worked. However, this should be the exception, as opposed to the rule.
He is far too slow on the ball, giving away possession with sloppy passes constantly, his control has been awful in the last 3 or 4 games and he has pretty much no positional awareness or discipline whatsoever.
Although Wijnaldum wasn't great either, I was truly baffled that he was substituted before Emre last night.

I do genuinely believe Can has got some good traits and can be a valuable player for us, but not in the same formation, next to Lucas or just on current form alone.
He needs time out to improve his game and vision, or Klopp needs to change the formation to suit him (4-2-3-1 possibly, next to Stewart in Hendo's absence)?

Gutted to see Lallana so isolated and uninvolved, when he could have played instead of Can and had a much more significant impact.

MIlner is a solid defender but then this system demands offensive full backs. It's the same applies on the other side with Clyne. If your full backs offer nothing up front then you cut it to the middle which makes it easier for opposition to defend against.

Agree totally with all the points made about Can, he needs time to learn his role a lot better than he has done and should never have been a first team regular. That was just testament to how average our midfield had become with him being our best midfielder last season (largely due to hendo being injured and off form as a result) . This is not to say he hasn't shown signs of a good midfielder but he just isn't consistent enough to be a first team player. He does well against certain opposition but against most opposition this season he's looked like a poorer version of Henderson. We need a different type of midfielder, a more clever and well rounded one, especially with the inevitable departure of Lucas. It's all well and true saying he needs to be given time and he will get it right, but he can do that as a squad player without us suffering for it. We needed a top quality midfielder in the summer and right now it is showing, preferably one starting alongside hendo and lallana/ wiji. Someone who can play box to box, adds something defensively and can play the holding role but also adds quality to the attack, it will cost but it's the difference between a title and scrapping for top 4 at this point in time.

In terms of Milner, I think he will always have the odd game where he will be targeted, as it's not his natural position, but he's head and shoulders our best option and has been consistent enough. I don't see LB as a glaring weakness anymore and that's due to how well he's done there. I do think we will look at it in the summer though.

Little worried about Milners pace against Rashford on the weekend, i fell that this may be something they might target. Although i have full confidence in this side to get the job done on sunday.

Milner dealt with Sterling pretty well one certain one on one situations BUT mainly due to Klopp`s great tactics for that game, in never leaving our fullbacks isolated cos they always had help from the wide players or the midfielder in that zone of the pitch. If we can do that on Sun, we`ll be fine

Well done to Karius last night, thought he had a good game

He had a splendid game.

He was brilliant in all facets. My MOTM. W/ O him, the tie would have been over with a Redmond hatrick. This will do wonders for his confidence.

12 Jan 2017 15:02:18
Will he be in goal v Utd?

12 Jan 2017 15:47:23
Doubt it, take him out on a high and bring him back in for a less important game

Eds can you see Liverpool being as bad on Sunday as they were last night? Have they lost the spirit and fight that was so evident before Christmas ?

{Ed002's Note - Sadly my crystal ball is in for a polish today Dan.}

12 Jan 2017 09:35:14
I can say yes because United will defend deep and look to hit on the break.

12 Jan 2017 09:58:21
If Matip doesn't play, I think they will try and exploit Klavans weakness and attack with pace from the off. Try and get an early goal then as you say ( Matip ) defend deep and hot us on the break.

If they watched the performance last night, they'll be very confident. Let's hope Hendo and Matip are ready to play.

12 Jan 2017 11:44:00
Without hendo, we're most likely dropping points with the best we can hope for being a draw. Without matip it might be a shambles or it might be a dominant defensive performance from klavan and lovren, it's been that sort of trend with them. I could be well of the mark and I hope I am. I hope we do take risks and play coutinho, matip and Henderson if they can play.

12 Jan 2017 14:11:48
We have to go there with the objective of winning, period. To do that, we have to play all our guys and go for it. All else fails, get a point and on to Swansea where we can try to pick up three points at Anfield.
