What happened to the 2 young South Americans who came for a trial?thank you!

Believable1 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2015 06:27:10
Trails are offered all the time for young players. I don't know what happened to them, but it is likely that they will be still on trial and maybe signed up or may come back for a further trial to be signed up when they turn 18.

There seems to be a trend associated with Lucas, Borini and Enrique and that's none of them want to leave the club.

I for one think this reflects nicely on the club, but in contrast is also a hinderence to the ideas of management.

I've always rated Lucas, and I want him to stay, and I defended Borini when everyone suggested he should have never of turned down the offer from Sunderland, as he was perfectly entitled to do so as he was contracted.

But.

. loyalty can only go so far, and although we as fans should be flattered by the willingness of players to stay at the club and the City, we must (regardless of opinion) respect the wishes of the hierarchy, albeit in a stomach churning way.

I can't defend the club 100% on their actions, but I suppose it's a case of being cruel to be kind, and I hope the players see it that way.

Believable4 Unbelievable7

13 Aug 2015 06:22:32
I once faced a similar thing at work.

We needed to cut costs but there was no natural turnover as we were paying way above market rates. People just couldn't make it he same salary elsewhere.

I've no idea whether that's the case at the club. But I do suppose that going elsewhere would mean a pay cut for some of those on your list.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 06:35:28
I think if the management made it very clear that they don't have any future at LFC, the players will have little choice but to leave. But under Rodgers, I have no idea if this has been the case, but in the past he has been accused of screwing with players this way: telling them he wants them to stay and then not giving a shabbite about them.

In Borini and Enrique's case, they should be intelligent enough, or at least their agents should be, to know they have no chance of playing for LFC. I remember Waro saying Borini demanded obscene wages from one of QPR or Sunderland last summer, and then turned down the moves, and it is commendable if he wants to stay on fight for his place, but by now, he surely knows he is not needed? If he still wants to stay, then he is misusing his career IMO.

Enrique's is even worse. He had injuries in the past two years, but has been fit for more time than not. It has been very clear for a while that he has no future at LFC, but seemingly he is happy to just sit around and not play, while picking up wages and being active in social media. He has said in a recent interview that he ahd an option to go back to Spain this summer, but turned it down to "fight for his place at LFC", and that he considers moving to clubs like West Brom a step-down. He also mentioned that only Barcelona and Real Madrid can pay wages teams like Liverpool can pay in Spain and made it very clear he is staying for his wages; probably because he is not bright. I think he needs to wake up.

13 Aug 2015 06:41:20
Borini loved his 50k/week too much. Ha ha

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - he got offered more by both Sunderland and QPR and rejected the moves.}

13 Aug 2015 06:48:02
Doubt it has anything to do with loyalty or niceness to be fair, more that they want to stay on the gravy train

Agree0 Disagree1

13 Aug 2015 07:43:27
I can't imagine anyone would pay anything other than a nominal sum for Enrique- he's older, on decent wages, has hardly played, and is in the last year of his contract. He himself stated no one in Spain aside from Barcelona or Real could pay him what he's on now. Given that, why would he leave? Borini is similar, but younger and needs to keep more of an eye on his future earning potential.

The base problem as I see it is the wages are so overinflated in the PL, it's going to be very hard for all clubs to shift players that aren't wanted by the likes of PSG, Bayern, Real, or Barcelona back to the continent.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 08:44:02
RDL, exactly. But shouldn't these players be prioritizing their career over money? If Enrique took a wage cut, and got of his high horse, he could have moved to Spain or another club in England.

Wages in the PL are definitely making it difficult to move on players when they are not needed, and similarly, modest transfer fees are a concern for Italian clubs to buy players.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 09:13:31
Dzeko and Jovetic took a wage cut to join Italian clubs.

Its a straight case of Karma. How the club treated them, they are paying it back. Running down the contract. Borini is young and could find a club next year without any major issues. Enrique isn't interested in football and Balotelli Proves you shouldn't take gambles in life.

Been told by a wise old red that Ibe will be benched this coming Monday and Firmino will be starting. Could well be pure speculation, however he did speak in a "matter of fact" manner. Nothing too exciting but thought i would pop it on here as i rarely post at all.

Have a great evening all!

Believable9 Unbelievable0

13 Aug 2015 06:36:55
I think it would be disappointing to drop Ibe so soon. He will get chances of course, but at home against Burnley, it could be an ideal platform for the young man to show what he is all about.

What did Lallana do that he is kept over Ibe for Firmino?

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 07:48:55
We need to protect Ibe and not thrash him too much too soon.
He's got a long career ahead of him.

The real ag, we have Bournemouth Monday not Burnley!

Agree5 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 09:16:11
The problem is Milner again. With him in the midfield you will have to drop Ibe and Milner wouldn't offer as much as Ibe for the team in general. Ibe will provide width and I wwould love pace on either flanks with Firmino and Ibe constantly taking on full backs with Our Full backs overlapping. Countinho would get acres of spaces in the middle to penetrate.
Milner will force one major player on to bench and unfortunately its Ibe.

13 Aug 2015 09:16:55
Burnley at home in the league? You're living in the past. A true red lol

Agree3 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 10:11:09
If it is one in one out then surely it should be Lallana dropped as for me IBE was among our best performers. I don't believe IBE needs to be rested Ron when he hasn't played in over a week. Hopefully we will see can start in a 433 or a diamond as we were much more effective when he came on and players should ultimately be picked on performance.

Another beauty, lol. Can't agree with that.

Agree4 Disagree2

13 Aug 2015 11:14:57
As I said a few weeks back I think it best at the moment yo have ibe on the bench as with 10 men behind the ball he struggles. Nothing against him he will learn to be more clever in tighter games over time. But the double upside is if you bring on ibe after an hour or so against tired legs he could have a field day doing what he does best with his direct attacking play. Realistically if he does start games he will most likely be taken off first just seems to be the thing to do with young players so I would rather him get 30-40 minutes making a proper impact than 60 odd minutes struggling to really get into the game.
Give him bit of time pick and choose his games carefully get him a few goals/assists off the bench. Personally this is how I would handle it anyway

13 Aug 2015 11:47:07

Agree5 Disagree0

Ron

Care to explain what would Milner provide and Ibe wouldn't if your system wants natural width?
Over the next 5 games you would slowly understand Milner ain't doing anything significant other than pressing.
Apart from being called a hard worker, hasn't don't a lot at city. couldn't replace Yaya when he was hopeless in that midfield. Always a Substitude through out.

The best bet of our midfield trio should be Lucas/Can-Hendo/Milner-Countinho/Lallana, with two natural wide players wither side of a striker.

Agree1 Disagree5

13 Aug 2015 16:00:13
There are a grand total of maybe 5 players in world football that could replace Yaya Toure. Don't get me wrong, I think Can should play almost every game in defensive midfield but Milner is a great player. Ibe shouldn't automatically start and there will be games he comes off the bench to change games. I actually like the thought of Milner on the right for certain games as we will need his defensive qualities to lock down good wide midfielders. Our best bet is the central 3 who finished the game at Stoke with Benteke, Ibe and Firmino from the start. Lallana I definitely rate but was just ok against Stoke. With the depth we have, you play who is in form.

Agree2 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 16:54:44
Amerigo

Ibe ll never reach his potential if he isn't given a full 90mts. He is ready for it and I can't see him due other players.

Agree0 Disagree1

14 Aug 2015 04:38:13
Yaya, Silva, Aguero, are great players. Milner couldn't get a game ahead of any of these if he played in their positions so again Americo, how is he a great player? Only to the deluded is a back up player a great player just because said player plays for the deluded's club. Milner was never needed especially on the crazy wages who offers next to nothing in terms of skill, quality and goals. So Americo, how's Milner a great player?

That was an year ago when he thought he would prove at Liverpool. The scenario is different now. He hasn't kicked a ball in an year and if anything else its only money. He will have to start it all over again.
Fiorentina, Lazio, West Ham, Sunderland all are pretty decent opportunities to play football.
He is delude if he thinks Real and Barca would be coming for him. He has every right to screw Liverpool management and he is doing it fine.

He always gives 100% on the pitch and I'd imagine the same is true in training.
I don't understand this constant abuse and undermining of the players and manager. Kids go round calling people names, is that the mental age on the forum now?

Agree2 Disagree2

13 Aug 2015 10:45:38
It's unbelievable ozone isn't it? He's seeing out his contract so he can milk as much money out of his next move as possible and most posters on here commend his attitude, just goes to show, " you can fool most of the people most of the time ", gullible isn't in it😕.

I said it at the time of the Sunderland bid, he should have been told he's not got a future at the club, and that if he doesn't move he will train with the kids, similar to what's happening with balotelli, but Rodgers is that arrogant, he welcomed him on the tour of America were he got injured, Rodgers wanting to be proved right about Borini hoping he would play his way into the first team shows how egotistical and arrogant he is and has ultimately cost us upwards of £20 million to satisfy his ego, yet one more reason to add to the looonnnggggg list of reasons why he should have been sacked in the summer. Which also shows the same quality's of these owners in an identical scenario regarding the manager, they bought his BS and continue to back him so they can hope to be proved right, when they should have said, we've been had off by this shyster, sack him and let's learn from this mistake, but NO, just like the manager there ARROGANCE and wanting to be right at ALL times is limitless.

Agree3 Disagree2

13 Aug 2015 13:49:06
I would sooner see Borini seeing out his contract compared to never ever playing to his contract like his Italian team mate.

Question for Ed001 if you have time mate.
The end of season review aimed at addressing some of the problems within the club must have had some focus on the management. I for one did not think rogers could keep his job. However, it's not my money and I don't make decisions but surely FSG must have identified his short comings. I understand he is young and will make mistakes and that he was their choice long term. What I really would like to know is has he been given a minimum performance remit or face the welly?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - from what I have been told the minimum is top 4 at the end of the season.}

Agree12 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 09:23:10
If it's a target at by the end of the season (of course it would be) that suggests he is in the job for the full campaign. We could do poorly in the first three months which many suggest is the cut off point for Rodgers. But if we pick up points which could still keep us in reach and those tough away games are gone, well then that would be enough to stay on.

Maybe if by April we are well out of it then Rodgers will be sacked with O'Drisscoll caretaker until the end of May.

Crystal ball cloudy after that, but looks like a great run of results and O'Drisscoll stays as cheap option or its a press campaign for Klopp.

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 11:18:39
He did say the minimum I'm sure if we only scraped 4th and were knocked out early in cups especially europa then they would have to take a hard look at the situation.

I would say the only way he guarantees his job is top 3 staying in touch with the title race getting to at least the quarters in the europa and maybe doing well in one of the domestic cups possibly a win.

Just because its the minimum they expect doesn't mean achieving it he is automatically safe

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Aug 2015 11:44:14
If top 4 is our owners aim, presumably for Champions League qualification, then our second priority (arguably the first, given our efforts last year) should be the Europa League, for several reasons.

Winning gives access to the Champions League. Another English team winning it would mean top three place would be needed. If an English team won the Champions league then failed to qualify for top four place, you're down to two places. Unlikely I know, but not impossible.

If you add it's less than half the games of the Premier, then it becomes more of a possibility. We should use the other two cups to 'blood' players and rotate, not the Europa League.

I thought Benteke should have a song to the tune of Run DMC's "It's tricky"

We bought him from the villains
Thirty-two and a half millions
But then we realized his talent does not have a ceiling
He jumps over defenders
and scores a fair few winners
He orders Belgian waffles
but he eats your team for dinner!

He kicks it every time
Over (the line), Big Ben (on time) BENTEKE
BENTEKE
(Benteke) teke (Teke) teke (repeat)

He's taken a few knocks
But don't ask how much he costs
'Cause when he's free inside the box
He scores, like it or not
We brought him down the Mersey
and gave him the red jersey
Now he plays for us, and you can trust the opposition's cursing!

He kicks it every time
Over (the line), Big Ben (on time) BENTEKE

Hello to all the EDS and fellow REDS

rumours and more rumours, can't wait for the window to close and football to start. Exhausted reading nonsense rumours, while wishful thinking about players.
One interesting item for me was a hint of a silly rumour involving Bolasie. Now, IMO, he would be an obvious replacement for Sterling. He's faster and more aggressive. I think he would be scary lining up alongside Benteke and Sturridge, as he is the ideal player for breaking out of defence. Only an opinion anyway. Comment would be welcome. We don't have real pace anymore, now Sterling's gone. why is it teams have too many players nowadays?
P.S. Haven't Stoke city done well. Shaquiri, Affelay and Bojan. Well done whoever's responsible for transfers.

Believable1 Unbelievable8

12 Aug 2015 15:12:43
Pace isn't the best attribute of Sterling. There is a misconception among people regarding Sterling. He is not an Aaron Lennon. Firmino / Markovic are the ideal players to Sterling in the way they play.
What we miss would be the pace of a striker.

Agree0 Disagree20

12 Aug 2015 15:30:13
Bolasie is a nice player but we don't need him as we have enough people to be rid of in Markovic (waste of money), Balotelii (Still scratching my head) and lots more dead wood etc. Plus we bought Firmino and we already have Ibe and Lallana plus Origi and Ings so it wound not be wise to blow more money and I've always said its better to use up the academy talents which we have instead of pointless squandering. BR needs a transfer whiz to help him as he is out of his depth we it comes to that aspect.

Lets see how they perform before righting the team off before the season has properly got underway

10 games in if we are way off the pace i'd understand it, but not after one game when the team is still finding there feet and haven't got there sharpness yet

There is a lot to look forward to this season, coutinho and Firmino, better backroom staff that might get the defense organizing better etc.

I think we can be the surprise package this season, but Rodgers has to get it right and always pick the strongest 11 week in week out. personally think milner is not suited to partner hendo and push him into the right attacking mid with firmino and coutinho and benteke in front. what is everyones preffered formation and with who were?

This is the brutally honest truth.

The problem with our club and its fans is we are very much the club of yesterday and not the club of tomorrow. Instead of talking about the titles we are going to win we talk about the titles we won all them years ago. Liverpool will always be in a 'transitional period' with this kind of mentality.

The problem with the club is they don't buy the best players. We had a gem in suarez and should of built on it then. He left us and we replaced him with balotelli and lambert. Now sterling has left us too. We are a buy to sell club under fsg. We atleast need to try at get the players. Atleast we went for sanchez. We need to sign winners. Not always prospects.

Agree5 Disagree1

12 Aug 2015 13:07:19
Yeah but it's not the fans holding the club back. All the fans can do is take pride in the history of the club because recently we have slowly drifted away from the top. This doesn't mean that we can't get there, if any club outside of the top 4 is capable of winning the league it's us, in most cases just as much as the top 4, as we have just a good a chance of winning it than Utd and arsenal. Gary Nevilles article really pinpointed the obvious and put it in context, so if the club finally takes notice and we get lucky with the right set up, we will be successful again. The days of dynasties and long term success like the ones LFC and UTD have been able to enjoy are probably long gone in the EPL, with all the money and competition, but we will be up there. Do not blame the mentality of fans for why the club has been starved. It is the people within the club, and it always has.

Agree9 Disagree0

12 Aug 2015 13:25:08
how can you say that.

The club is investing in the future with stadium expansion but it respects its past and just about everyone is glad that we are staying at Angield.

Every season we talk about winning the league and other silverware. That is after all the reason the club exists.

We are rightly proud of our history and any future successes will be enjoyed in the context of our history as the most successful club side this country has produced.

Our supporters are by and large the most knowledgeable and appreciative in the game though sometimes we do not show that here.

We are different to other clubs but our history is not some problem for us which stops us being successful. Our history is our strength because we can look to Shankly Paisley Dalglish Gerrard Fowler Rush and the rest and look for our next greats to come along.

One thing that we will never ever need at our club is plastic flags or media luvvies to whip up an atmosphere.

We are the best club in the country because of who we are and also where we are going. We have suffered dark days with Gillett and Hicks and we are still on the road to recovery but we will get there no matter how long it takes.

I respect our rich history and traditions as a great football club however, I don’t think we should use our history as a weapon or even a excuse for future & current failings. This isn’t aimed at all Liverpool fans just a large majority. We were the best club in the country, currently we are not the best club in the country by any means. I base this down to success, it’s the only barometer you can use to judge the best from the rest. For sure, in my mind we are the most special club in world football because in my heart I love Liverpool but we can't honestly sit here and say currently we are still the best club in England? Unfortunately people are over taking us, people are winning more than us and it seems, from the owners to the fans to the players who sign for the club all we talk about is the past. It gets my back up, its living in the real world of today and dreaming of tomorrow not dwelling in the past. Just because we are Liverpool we don't have the god given right to behave like idiots, I personally think there is too much pressure from the bitching whinning fans, fans that slated Milner and Co before they kicked a ball. Honestly, you can say it happens at every club but its increasingly worse with LFC fans and the bashing is doing nothing to help. i'm positive, i'm looking forward to our future and I believe we can return to the top one day but for now, I will continue to enjoy the season as I hope the rest of you do.

Agree2 Disagree6

12 Aug 2015 14:56:29
The past serves as a legacy for the here and now and our future. They are not seperate things but also not linear either. For instance if we had handled sterling better in the past maybe he would have stayed and we could have brought in other talented players to support a title challenge etc. Legacy comes in various forms too, such as reputation or infrastructure etc the past and here and now are inseperable tbh.

Although like some i don't wallow in the past but i do lament decisions being made in the here and now which are quite frankly nonsensical. If decisions made in the recent past by insert name, organisation here were better we may have won the league since the inception of the premier league. So you can't blame some fans looking back to remember the good times considering the paucity of sucess we have had bar 10 years ago in istanbul.

Right, really looking forward to Monday. Looking to see a big improvement, dominate possession, have more of an attacking set up and get Benteke more involved in dangerous positions. Think this game will be a better barometer for where we are as a team than Stoke was.

I'd bring in Firmino for Ibe (love Ibe but I think he'd struggle to make an impact if Bournemouth sit back and stay compact), bring Moreno on for Gomez (lad needs a moral boost and should provide a better attacking threat down the left) and bring in Can for Lallana allowing Hendo and Milner to play further forward.

Lastly, although I'd be surprised if it happens, I'd give Sakho a start next to Lovren. Both left footed but I'm less and less convinced by Skrtel and this is, theoretically, one of the easier games of the season so no better time to experiment.

Believable8 Unbelievable12

12 Aug 2015 11:58:35
I would agree to all of your changes other than Moreno. I like the look of Gomez and think he should be given a fair run.

Also, cannot see Sakho happening, I'd be tempted to go all out with experimentation and have Sakho and Ilori starting, with Skrtel on the bench if required.

Unfortunately, I don't think BR has that bravery and foresight.

Why would you change the centreback partnership? We didn't concede over the weekend and on the whole we looked solid. Although Skrtel made one or two mistakes the partnership needs to be given further chances to gel. Sakho will have to earn his opportunity which I'm certain he will at some stage. The only change I would make is to bring in Can for Lallana. Can gives us a better balance in midfield.YNWA

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed001's Note - we did not look solid though, Stoke just looked appalling. They chipped through balls through that repeatedly left our centre halfs in a straight sprint, one on one for the ball, with Diouf. We are lucky it wasn't a decent striker, as he should have made a number of chances that way. We need to get more pace there to deal with that. Either that or get a sweeper keeper. The other solution is to play a deeper line and that forces the midfield to drop deeper, as we don't have a DM to plug the gap left.

Though I would not change a winning team either, and give them a chance to see if they can improve on the weaknesses shown at the weekend. All I am doing is explaining why I would personally understand if we changed the centre back partnership.}

12 Aug 2015 13:18:36
Lovren is right-footed, no way will he be dropped, or should he be dropped after what was one of his best performance for LFC. I wouldn't make too many changes to the team for Monday night, as disappointing as Lallana and Ibe were, I wouldn't drop them yet. Besides, Frimino will need more time to get used to the pace of the PL.

12 Aug 2015 16:42:58
Thanks Ed001 you make some very valid points. I guess I was happy we didn't concede and didn't really explore the bigger picture in depth. The centre backs were exposed on several occasions and on hindsight a better striker would probably beat our CB's, both of whom are quite slow. Ideally I would bring back Lucas to DM but it seems he's out of favour. Can could be a solution but it would take time to convert him into a DM, as he is more of a box to box midfielder (also still a little young and raw). A pacy centre back would help but it seems BR is set on our 4 centre backs for the season, none of whom are particularly pacey. Having said that Sakho should be in the team every week. Also worth pointing out that BR should have bought centre backs who can naturally play alongside one another other. Instead, what could be potentially our best partnership (Lovren/Sakho) cannot compliment one another in the eyes of BR. YNWA

Just a thought. If you were an ex top player now retired and sitting alone at night in front of the T.V. Would you be the more happier if you look back on your career and remember the many cups, titles that you had won or would the memory take you to one special occasion. One really big occasion, Istanbul maybe for those that were there playing. Myself, just as a supporter instantly remember Rome in 77 then Istanbul. I have seen us win a lot of trophies but there is always one that comes to mind first. Would a player look at it that way or would they simply look how much money they had left.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

I assume most players are the same as you, they'll remember those special days. If I was Aguero I'd be proud of my two league medals but I'd always remember 2012 over 2014 because of the way it was won. Similarly Gerrard will always come back to Istanbul as the defining moment of his career over his FA, League and UEFA Cup medals.

I think you've missed Robbie's point, EG.

I would be amazed if every player didn't have that one special moment that stood out above the others, like muscat's point above.

I'm not sure there's many successful players (i.e. ones who have won trophies) who would look back especially at the money they've earned. I still think the majority (note, 'majority'!) of top players value trophies and titles over money, as long as they are not being ridiculously underpaid compared to their peers.

Same with most humans, you're going to remember the employee of the month award you picked up, or the big deal you closed, rather than the fact you earned £x that year. As long as you're not earning 50% less than your direct peers, of course!

The manager, coaches, transfer committee, player, players agents have all come under extereme scrutiny during the recent months. Words like charlatan, hoodwinker,

dissembler have been associated with the manager at every other post. Players have been branded as deadwoods, disloyal and greedy. Coaches have been labeled inept and

lackey. But it seems that the owners are exempt from this fiasco just because they bought the club at a difficult time.
The manager is denounced day in day out because he keeps on playing underperforming players, because he failed to sign top quality replacements when they were

available, because he alienates the players forcing them to leave the club but when the owners are doing the exact same thing as the manager no one bats an eye. Are

the owners not sticking with an underperforming manager? Did they not fail to replace rodgers when top pedigree managers like klopp or ancelotti were available. Are

they not alienating rodgers by sacking his assistant and coaches?
As Ed002 has suggested the club is losing massive amount of money and we will fail FFP if we keep spending recklessly but despite this the owners seem not bothered by

the way the manager keeps buying players and not playing them at all before shipping them out for penauts. There is news coming out every week that the club behaved

unprofessionally with a player, the club behaved unprofessionally with another club, other clubs are not willing to do deals with us any more etc. Why are these things

happening? Is this because the owners are sure to make a profit when they sell the club once the new tv deal comes in place next year and they don't care what happens

to the club after they leave? Why the manager gets blamed for everything while the owners have not done a single thing right (except may be expand the stadium) since

buying the club?

We are Liverpool tra la la la la - poetry in motion.

Liverpool fans love that. Love the fact that we are playing attacking, attractive football. Rogers is committed to that. We can't have it both ways. I genuinely like Lucas as a man and player, have supported him on here for years, but he SLOWS our attack down. On turnover possession the game stalls at his feet

He's simply a round peg in a square hole in Roger's style and system.

Good luck to him in the future. Wish him all the best.

Believable8 Unbelievable24

{Ed001's Note - sorry Rodgers is committed to what? Have you watched us at all last season, or in this preseason or the first match? There is nothing attacking or attractive about us. Rodgers is committed to slow build ups and pass, pass, pass football. That is what he sees as the way to play the game, not all out attack.

As for Lucas slowing our attack down, that is just a lie. He has always taken the ball and played it quickly, forward if possible. There is nothing about him that slows the play down, so if he is holding on to the ball, then it is simply a lack of options as he likes to move it quick. That was what Rafa liked about him in the holding role, was the way he would get it and always look to move it on quickly and preferably forward to launch a counter. So for anyone to suggest he is slowing the game down himself is clueless. That is a tactical issue, not an issue of singular players that our play is slow.}

12 Aug 2015 07:00:28
I'm happy to disagree Ed.

I love the way everybody ignores the fact that last year was an abomination - Suarez out, Sturrige out - T Committee forcing Mario and others. Yet - Rogers is the sole blame carrier. Many on here placing all the credit on the previous year on Suarez and fluke.

Like I said - I and many see it differently. There seems a genuine dislike on here for Rogers - Yet - one of the Clubs Legends in Gerrard wishes he played longer under Rogers - I'll go with Gerrard on this one.

All player move on -no one likes being dropped by the coach - never have and never will - but to evertime read - 'treated badly by Rogers' is sounding petty and boring now. I too disagree with some of Roger's selections and preferences, but i'm a fan not a manager - I don't see 100% clearly BR's thinking and behind the scenes.

Excuse the mini-rant

Agree2 Disagree17

{Ed001's Note - you do realise Rodgers agreed to the signing of Balotelli right? Or does that not suit your delusions? Anyway he is the manager, he has to learn to manage the players at his disposal and to say he is not guilty because he failed to do so is ludicrous and shows a complete lack of understanding of his role.

By the way, the issue all last season was the way we played, not who was missing. If you can't understand that then it is a waste of time having this discussion because you are childish enough to assume it is related to a personal dislike of Rodgers, rather than him being inept and judged as so. As for what Gerrard said, funny how he says other things in private and pretty much retracted those comments as soon as he left the club, but let's gloss over that because it wouldn't suit the deluded viewpoint. But yes, let's go with what Gerrard said about his boss while it could have made the difference between him getting games or sitting on the sidelines. I am sure he gave his true thoughts and not did as he was contracted to do and say the right things.

You clearly are not in the know, as you are whining on about the committee being at fault, when Rodgers had the final say. He is the manager, it is his job to take the blame because it is his job to make the final decisions.}

12 Aug 2015 07:15:20
I wouldn't be surprised if more passes were made to Mignolet than Benteke on the weekend - doesn't sound very attacking to me. Lucas is actually the right fit. Unfortunately Rodgers must have failed geometry as he is struggling with pegs and holes - and has been since he arrived.

I battle to see how one can ignore the loss of Suarez and Sturrge, effectively our strike force out. I saw a manager change systems numerous times to adapt.

Gerrard wanted to play under Rodgers so much that he left! Bit of a theme that, players wanting to leave Liverpool while Rodgers is manager. They probably realise they have a cat in hells chance of winning the league or even playing in the Champions League while Rodgers is manager.

As for Big A saying we play attractive attacking football that is hilarious even at half 7 in the morning. We are one of the most boring teams to watch, the only time we were attractive was when Suarez was pulling the team along

I think what Gerard meant to say was that if he met Rodgers 10 years ago he would have won more titles as he would have fed off to Chelsea as soon as he realised what a mess Rodgers was creating at Liverpool

Oh no, Ed, you've got it all wrong. Rogers is the victim.Pascoe was the real culprit. He and his cohorts, we're secret Man Utd fans, manipulating Rogers with advanced mind control techniques. It's not as straightforward as it looks.

Big A is just one in a long list of BR apologists who will do and say anything, including the most deluded and baseless comments, to the point of trashing players BR is freezing it of the team and treating disgracefully, in order to absorb him of blame for his many failures. Now, they have to reinvent facts like how the TC failed him whereas he is the head or how injuries and departures led to him being found out to be a poor manager, just to make their baseless points. Pathetic!

Ed 001 I see your point re Lucas. He deserves better I agree but in the final analysis Lucas has lost the speed necessary for the Premiership. That is evidenced by the number of fouls he conceded last season and the number of times he lost possession during pre season. In the modern game there's no room for sentiment especially with the high wages players like Lucas are paid.

Believable3 Unbelievable10

{Ed001's Note - sorry but how is that evidence of Lucas being not good enough, rather than evidence that the tactics were so bad he was getting overrun by multiple opponents repeatedly, so having to foul? How is the number of times he lost possession any more than an indicator of how the midfield and forwards all turned their back on him or the centre backs, when they received possession in their own half? Sorry but until the tactics make sense, it is impossible to judge on stats, as they are utterly useless than to do any more than be twisted to make any point you wish to make. Simply put, those stats are crap and it is the way you are choosing to read them that has decided the meaning.}

Prior to the injuries he was rock solid and was always there for all those 50-50 challenges and tackles.
He has lost pace and there is a fear in his mind to go for that tackle and he misses it leading to free kicks and with us having such a wonderful reputation on dead ball situation. It ends up in a goal.
But I saw a different Lucas in the Preseason. Pressing and disposing high up the pitch and chasing for all those balls, passing around nicely.

Keeping both Origi and Ings on the bench made no sense at all. One should have been Lucas and Can should have been on the pitch from the start.

It's just BR doesn't rate players like him, Markovic.

Don't remember Lucas giving the ball away much in preseason and like it or not his tactical fouls as I call them saved our bacon on numerous occasions and I think he's one of the best in the business at it. In games where we've been completely dominated he's managed to give away possibly 10 bookable free kicks when we are looking like we're overwhelmed and still mangaged to stay on the pitch. I don't think Lucas is the be all and end all to our season like some suggest but our chances of success are definitely better with him at the club and probably with him in the team.

Didn't lucas make the most interceptions out of everyone last season? Not bad for someone so slow!

Here is a better stat. Our win percentage with Lucas on the pitch is significantly higher than it is without him. I hope he decides to stay and fight and I pray that Rodgers realises how good Lucas is and how valuable he is to the team.

Von, you use stats to make your point. I will use one as well to debunk yours. Wins are the only stats that matter in any sport hence, when Lucas played last season, LFC only lost ONE game and that was vs Arsenal in a game NOBODY played well in. I'm not a stats guy because it means nothing. I suggest you use your eyes and brain to draw conclusions when you watch games instead relying on stats that in the end, proves nothing.

HI eds, good morning.
Now i know this question has nothing to do with liverpool but i wanted to ask. i was just browsing football sites searching for strikers since almost every top team ( bar liverpool) is in need of one and i came across jonathan soriano. now i remember him as a barcelona B player who scored a lot of goals in one season. he has since moved to austria and is scoring for fun, some article said he had scored 52 goals last season! and he has been scoring 30+ goals every season. Now salzburg is not the biggest club nor is austrian bundesliga the big league. what i wonder is why has not one club registered any interest in him? he has a phenomenal scoring record. is he a good player according to you ed? 30+ goals a season in any league for three years straight is a mean feat.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - he is ok, lots of players score goals for fun in weaker leagues but fail miserably in the Prem, Afonso Alves for instance. For me Soriano is another one, he is a bit old to make the change over and lacks the pace to be able to frighten defenders or create himself space.}

I suggest everyone check out our unused ex keeper of ours scoring a goal that any striker would be proud of in the dying seconds against psv Eindhoven . It was sheer class . got to love football sometimes

The only time you can keep squad players happy is if you are winning things and or paying very very good wages. Our squad isn't well balanced for not being in champs league. Any manager in the prem would struggle to keep this squad happy, fergie was the master at it but he recognized that you had to have honest hard working pros like oshea, brown, solksjaer that wouldn't kick up a fuss if they were second choice.
That's why for all the haters Allen has, he's a pretty handy squad player in my eyes. Hopefully Rossiter fills Lucas's place!

Lucas is leaving. Imo I think it's time he does. I rate him but if I'm honest, he doesn't get in my starting 11. Would I have Milner ahead of him, yes. Would I have Can ahead of him, yes.
So thank you for your service Lucas Leiva. It has been a pleasure. Wish you all the best.

If you think Milner is ahead of Lucas then you should start watching footie a bit more closely mate.
A B2B midfielder replaces a DM?

Depends what system you play really. But yes, taking everything into account. I would play Milner ahead of Lucas. Maybe the system and style Rodgers wants to play requires a b2b midfielder, maybe it doesn't.
My point is, Lucas does not make MY starting 11. Although he'd be a possibility to start against the stronger teams to protect the back 4 a bit better.
Other than that, Lucas is good, is he world class? No. If he wants to go, he goes.

Common mate. What ever system you play you need someone to stop the opposition coming to you and it's not every mans tea. You need positional discipline and should be an excellent reader of the game.
Don't behave like BR picking names rather than correct players.

12 Aug 2015 13:24:23
So you're saying playing against a lesser team that will just sit back, we need a DM??? Nonsense.
A b2b midfielder is just that! One of those b's is our box, when they are defending!
Stop talking nonsense.
