Obiang looks a wonderful player, isn't it? Excellent first touch and he works like a bull. Wijnaldum could learn something from him. I am also impressed with Mooy of Huddersfield. A very good deep midfielder.

Believable3 Unbelievable17

11 Sep 2017 21:46:12
I find it amusing that you are so quick to praise other teams players who would get nowhere near our first team but can't praise any of your own players. You have a strange mindset Harry :-)

11 Sep 2017 21:54:24
Ohk! Here we go. Philippe Coutinho is world class as well Firmino and Mane. Woodie is a great lad who will make it big at Liverpool as well Ryan Kent. I am one of the few who still supports Daniel Sturridge ( tried my level best to find a weakness in his style and was unsuccessful ) I have started liking Emre Can lately. I believe he will become a monster CM, unfortunately at Juventus. So that's 6 players already mate. I have no interest in both Wiji and Hendo and I don't see too many supporters praising our backline either mate.

{Ed025's Note - firmino is not world class harry..

11 Sep 2017 22:01:18
Firmino has the best first touch to me Ed025. He is like a silk with the ball. I like him. 😎😎.

{Ed025's Note - i think hes a good player harry but well short of world class mate imo..

11 Sep 2017 22:28:43
But Harry, they aren't Croatian.?

11 Sep 2017 22:40:01
Relatively positive for you Harry but you had to get your digs in on Hendo and Wiji who are better players than Obiang and Mooy by some distance. I know that we get so involved in our own team that we micro criticise them whilst lauding players from other teams as we don't see much of them and don't particularly care if they make mistakes. We only see the good they do and think 'if only Hendo could do that'. Imagine if we sold Hendo and Wiji and bought Mooy and Obiang. That would be a huge step backwards for me.

11 Sep 2017 22:43:15
Theyre probably as good as that player you said would boss any midfield in the premier league. What was his name.? Xhaka? πŸ˜‚ Give it a rest Harry and just try and enjoy the season geez.

11 Sep 2017 23:19:33
It depends on how you define world class?

For me its the best squad of 22 players that the wold class manager would pick, that's 2 players for each position, for rotation.

I'm not sure any of our players would get in it?

{Ed007's Note - Who's the last Liverpool player that would though? Kenny Dalglish?}

11 Sep 2017 23:41:32
luis suarez 007?

{Ed007's Note - Hhmmm I don't know if he would make the final cut for me mate but I can understand why Liverpool fans would argue for him.}

11 Sep 2017 23:54:34
I think firmino is close to world class and I think he will definitely become so. Coutinio mane lallana and Hendo I believe are world class or very close to.

11 Sep 2017 23:57:43
I think plenty of players would have a chance of being in the top 2 players in the world in their given position since Kenny's time.
I agree if Bobby though. Great player, and I know ed001 and me have discussed this before I don't think his best position is CF.

Barnes is a good shout.
Owen maybe, Fowler was brilliant.
Definite arguments for Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano.
Torres at his peak was the best CF in the world at that time.
And personally I think Suarez was the best CF in the world from his last season at Liverpool until last season.
If Mane continues at his current pace (minus booting opposition keepers in the Chevy chase) then he's well on the way to being one of the best wingers in the world.

12 Sep 2017 00:23:29
LALLANA AND HENDERSON ARE WORLD CLASS? Wtf πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

12 Sep 2017 00:45:30
Hamann was world class holding mid.
Sami hypia was a world class cb.
Mcmanaman was world class winger
Ince was a world class Dm
Pat berger was world class for a little while
Luis garcia was world class
Grobbelar was world class
Hanson souness keagan.

And of course Gerrard could've walked into any team and king Kenny is up there with one of the very best players to ever kick a ball. We have been lucky as lfc fans to support some amazing players over the years. Mane and coutinio these days.

12 Sep 2017 01:24:14
Seriously Henderson world class? Come on fella but the Stella down.

12 Sep 2017 01:37:31
Lallana and hdndo would get in your team easy stand.

12 Sep 2017 02:10:38
Give it a rest Superred. Hendo and Lallana world class? They are decent BPL players, but that's about it. If we want to win titles on a regular basis, they will need replacing eventually.
Firmino will be world class when his finishing improves. So will Coutinho when he is more consistent and Mane if he has another brilliant season.
None of the other players we have will be world class at any point though.

12 Sep 2017 06:19:51
Hendo is a very average player. Infact he is no holding mid either. He is a decent ball winner or what you call those, A good B2B midfielder. He is no playmaker to occupy the deeper role. Lallana was a flop until an year ago and this page unanimously agreed to sell him lol.

12 Sep 2017 08:19:11
In recent years. Alonso, Torres and suarez were definitely world class. Mascherano and Gerrard arguably. Also strong arguments for Owen and hyypia.

12 Sep 2017 08:16:16
Superred91.
The 24 hour drinking culture has done you no favours. Hendo and Lallana are ok players and belong in a mid table outfit, nothing more nothing less.

12 Sep 2017 08:36:06
Super red your off the wall fella. Hendo and lallana are miles and miles shaort of world class.
If you were yo name a best epl 11 without bias you could name 6 or 8 teams of 11 players befire you would include hendo or lallana. Couts and mane wiuld be in the 1st or 2nd team you name but that's it and this is only the epl not the world. You are completely deluded.
United plsy 2 in midfield pogba and matic hendo is nowhere near as good as either.
Lallana would not get in ahead of rash martial mata or miki. Although i think he is slightly better than lingard.
World class my ass ha ha ha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ keep taking the happy pillsπŸ˜‚.

12 Sep 2017 08:38:44
Bobby is a fantastic player but he is no striker. being played as the centre forward he will never shine we need a healthy striker (as good as dan but not as injury prone) and bring bobby further back sat behind the striker think that would be best for him.

12 Sep 2017 08:43:33
Decent assesment indian buzzer.
Ciuts is a lively player and will be a huge success at barcelona when he moves.
Mane is destined for the top. Not sure he will stay at liverpool beyond next season. ( that's just a feeling i have) firmino is a really good player but is not a centre forward he will never be world class though but not many reach that level.
In my opinion there are about 8 wc players in the whole of epl. There are about a dozen players who have the potential to step up to that level the rest are just very giod footballers.

12 Sep 2017 08:43:49
Ingsy, let it go. Bigging up other players, teams and managers is just Harry's way of bashing our own lot like you just saw him do there. "Gini could learn something from Obiang", . Pathetic rhetoric, really. They don't even play the same roles nor positions in CM but of course for Harry, that has and will never matter. He wants our players to play like any player he is obsessed with in the moment. Sometimes I wonder if he really an LFC fan as he is the only one on this forum that does that.

12 Sep 2017 09:16:07
I don't think it's wanting him to pay exactly like him but actually show spirit and desire? Am I right h.

Strolling around picking your bum is no way good enougj for Liverpool's midfield. Obiang was wanted by klopp and ed1 for his effort and desire. The transfer window has sbut so now we need to look at some of our players to show that. Hendo and can do that at least, I agree that wiji needs to aswel.

12 Sep 2017 09:17:16
That's ok Bingo, I do not need to prove you anything. But I am convinced you are a proper LFC fan. Congrats mate!

12 Sep 2017 09:39:21
Lallana is quality. not world class but quality. out of sight out of mind. Hendos a good lad.

12 Sep 2017 11:21:34
Kenny, Stevie, Alonso and Suarez are the 4 I would say were/ are world class.
I understand that some may question the Suarez inclusion, but for me there is not a manager in the world who would not have him in their side.

Alonso is the player who without doubt TURNS a good side into a champs league winning side. His input into the side would improve the other 3 above,

12 Sep 2017 11:58:39
I think if you are England captain you are world class. Or near it. I define world class as the top end of international football.

Lallana was one of the best players in the league last year before Christmas. He is better than the utd players that were mentioned.

12 Sep 2017 12:10:09
Superred

So what about if you are an England manager lol.

12 Sep 2017 12:12:54
My comments may sound a bit deluded and I admit I do tend to hype up liverpool players. Fair enough.

But anyone doubting if Luis suarez is world class is deluded. Of course he is.

Liverpool have had tonnes of world class players imo. Owen was without doubt world class, so was fowler, Gerrard, alonso hamann hypia mascherano. Riena was a Wc keeper.

Makes me laugh how people are so quick to dismiss English players. I wonder if you spoke to professional footballers if they would call Hendo a Wc midfielder? I suspect they might.

12 Sep 2017 12:16:58
Hanson was a world class defender. There can be no arguments there can there? If you go back to 70/ 80s then we had loads! Keegan was easily world class.

12 Sep 2017 16:21:32
None of them are world class. I would personally choose Firmino first of the 3 he mentioned.

12 Sep 2017 16:25:10
TB, that is not the point. Wiji plays with desire and skill most of the time and his ability technically is underrated. Did he have a bad game? Sure. Was he the only one? Nope. Was he the only one strolling? Nope. Matip did as well and should be criticized for it. The point is that I don't care what other players do and don't care who they should play like cos if we want our players to play like other teams' players then we should just sign them instead of comparing them to ours as a stick to beat ours with.

I am sick of this pathetic notion that some peddle that players at other teams are better than our just cos they don't play for us or cos they have a bad game as if said players from other teams don't have bad games.

Harry, I read comments from other LFC fan sites and you are the only one who does these pathetic comparisons. What you have to prove or don't prove is irrelevant. I'm not the only one who says this as many other posters have mentioned the same thing. It is not about being a true LFC fan. It is about having a decent conversation about how we can move forward as a club and saying our players should learn how to play like this or that player or our manager should sign this or that player that you want (esp. coming from a place of denigration of our players), adds nothing to the conversation, IMO.

12 Sep 2017 23:51:14
Hansen couldn't even get in the Scotland team,

Disgraceful but true.

11 Sep 2017 21:35:17
I brought up the matt Richie challange last and now in the West ham game Winston reed made exactly the same challange high boot kicked the huddesfeilfd player in the face not even a yellow card again were is the consistency from the refs. -- mane red 3 game ban-- Richie yellow no ban-- reed no card its a joke.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

11 Sep 2017 21:45:29
Yea! But it's still an offense.

11 Sep 2017 21:59:24
I saw that too red. To be fair Reeds foot wasn't high but did he endanger the safety the other player? Absolutely! He kicked him in the face! The more you see these other collisions the more you think that if Mane's was red then we could end up with players being sent off in most games which would ruin the game. You can't referee a game by adhering absolutely to words written on paper there is so much more involved. You need to understand the game and the context of the challenge/ collision. For me, Mane's wasn't a red card. Nor was Ritchie's or Reed's tonight. Accidental collisions happen and should never result in ruining the spectacle for the millions that have paid good money to watch it.

{Ed025's Note - but you cant let it get like UFC either ings, mane,s was 100% a red card mate whether you want to believe it or not is up to you..

11 Sep 2017 22:36:31
Actually it isn't an offense we can't defend. It is an offence as are most of your comments!

11 Sep 2017 22:45:19
Ok so why not Ritchie or Reed tonight? Based on the Endangering safety rule both should go. Fact is lots of actions on a football pitch endanger the safety of other players. Sometimes they get injured, sometimes they don't but if players are scared to go for a 50/ 50 ball for fear of a red card the game will be a lot worse for it.

11 Sep 2017 22:45:19

11 Sep 2017 23:27:26
How was the tackle tonight different from the other 2,
In each instance the foot was raised "dangerously" high and at pace,
The only difference was the injury and and the stretcher etc

Either all red or all yellow, not 3 different decisions.

11 Sep 2017 23:48:48
LFCDER
I agree with you that was my point they were all the same type of challange they should all receive the same punishment referies are making a mockery of the laws giving 3 different desisions 1 red 1 yellow and no card at all.

12 Sep 2017 00:00:11
Yes inconsistency is annoying but at least one ref made the right decision, just it happened to be against us. Problem is until refs take a consistent approach players will continue doing silly things and potentially hurting other players because they think it's ok. Time to let it go though.

12 Sep 2017 00:05:01
One is someone's studs digging into someone's skull that's the difference. The other is a high foot with the laces side catching someone

Both are fouls, 1 is a definite sending off, 1 is just a foul.
This is regarding Reid

I am not saying there are not inconsistencies from officials, just saying there are clear differences.

12 Sep 2017 08:32:49
Westwood this football the players should be potentially hurting each other if they're not then we will get steam rolled every game. I want to see hard tackles and people not backing out of 50/ 50 balls. I want to see Mane running at pace and stretching every sinue to nick that ball ahead of a keeper also running at pace to stop him. On this occasion the ball was nicked by the keeper as it was travelling in his direction and both players have clashed into each other. If Mane gets there first then it's a red for the keeper but not for foul play for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. I just can't see though how that's a red for Mane it's an accidental collision.

12 Sep 2017 08:49:02
People seem to forget that Ederson actually won the ball with his head before Mane planted his studs in his face. This was not incidental contact. Ederson won the ball and caught Mane's boot in the face. Move on, people. It was a red card and case closed. Dragging other incidents into this, serves no purpose, IMO.

12 Sep 2017 11:11:29
Ings I can understand the argument completely but the rules don't say anything about incidents being accidental or not. They talk about endangering other players which obviously happened. I mean just look at Edersons face! If you think the rules are wrong that's fair enough but the ref called it right in line with the law of the game. The ref for the Ritchie incident got it wrong. If Aguero had done that to Migs and didn't get sent off and we'v of then lost we'd all be furious.

11 Sep 2017 21:18:49
I think at the moment we Liverpool fans are caught between a rock and a hard place.

When we play like we did vs Arsenal we don't need a DM but when we play like we do against City we do.

We don't want our attacks slowed down by a player who isn't forward thinking enough, But at the same time we don't want our backline constantly got at like it is.

For me this really highlights a player like xabi Alonso who would be perfect for us right now. You can trust him to protect our defence and also pick a pass on a fast break.

Just my opinion guys, cheers.

Believable6 Unbelievable0

11 Sep 2017 21:41:32
I am not sure how playing a DM disrupts our game. Instead it will help our fellow midfielders and full backs to charge like bull up and down. A DM will generally bring stability to a midfield.
Alonso won everything with just a B2B player alongside him. He was in his own league. There are some good little DLP out there. Rabiot, Paredes. Jorginho etc.

11 Sep 2017 21:44:00
Fact of the matter is that we did not struggle because of not having a defensive midfielder vs City as we were giving them the same grief as we did vs Arsenal in the first half when it came to City's back 3 and they were just going with the flow until one moment in the match which saw LFC going behind and Mane to follow being sent off. Missed chances from LFC played into City's hands.

It is also a fact that City were looking hopeless at the back irrespective of LFC being 1-0 down until Mane was sent off. If Mane was not sent off it could very well have been good night for City.

Xabi Alonso was not a defensive midfielder for us either. He was a playmaker. The dirty work was left to Mascherano.

If Alonso was still playing for LFC he would be no different to what Henderson is for us under Klopp. Fact.

{Ed025's Note - so your comparing alonso to hendo max?...i suspected you knew more about the game to be honest mate..

11 Sep 2017 21:52:48
I am not comparing the two Ed025. If you read again, Alosno would have had the same job as Hendo if he was playing under Klopp.

Alonso is not a defensive midfieldr and neither is Hendo.

Hope that explains it.

{Ed025's Note - oh right, i will give you the benefit of the doubt then max, it would be like comparing carlton palmer and maradonna mate..

11 Sep 2017 21:59:58
Alonso is the greatest ever holding midfielder to me! If he playing for Liverpool you would have either seen a different Henderson ( a proper old modern day B2B ball winner like Khadiera or Vidal ) or he would warm the bench!

Hendersin passes to where he looks at which is mostly to Matip as he can't turn the ball on his own nor he could spray long balls. There is a video compilation of Xabi at Bayern! Alonso could find a new planet with his passing!

{Ed025's Note - fantastic player alonso harry..

11 Sep 2017 22:00:40
But he was at his best with Masch (a true defensive mid) alongside him doing the dirty work.

{Ed025's Note - i can see that ings, but he could play with anyone mate, hes that good..

11 Sep 2017 22:06:36
It would be if Alonso was left to protect our defence which he would not have been under Klopp.

If that was the case then Henderson would have been know as the best defensive midfielder in the League which he is not as the fact is, Henderson is not a defensive midfielder and is not what he is deployed as by Klopp.

Neither would Alonso have been deployed as a defensive midfielder under Klopp as he ain't a defensive midfielder.

Alonso would be filling the same role under Klopp as Henderson does if Alosno was playing under Klopp. This is not comparing there abilities, it is telling you what Klopp would have done.

I do not have to explain it again?

{Ed025's Note - can i ask how you know what klopp would do then max?

11 Sep 2017 22:20:20
But Alonso is better than Henderson in that role. Moreover Alonso is conventional DM + CM. Hence the best ever holding midfielder tag!

Rafa always played a DM no matter what. Xabi had no such luxuary at Real and Bayern. He controlled the midfield on his own!

11 Sep 2017 22:37:36
Naby Kieta played a league game the other day . He played as a defensive midfielder in the first half and then operated as a traditional box to box midfielder in the second half as a result of a substitution of a teammate . He was outstanding in both positions and I finally understood exactly why he was our number one transfer target . He also scored a cracking goal from distance . He will bring energy and versatility to our midfield. I don't like placing pressure and expectations too early on players as they are human beings like the rest of us but I really am excited about the possibility of having him in our squad as I hope and believe that he will be a revelation . Too bad he arrives next season only . In my humble opinion he is an upgrade on what we currently have .

11 Sep 2017 22:47:47
Harry, Mourinho played Pogba as a defensive midfielder last season which did not work.

This is not about tit for tat.

If Alonso was at Liverpool right now irrespective of his ability, he would be playing the same role in our midfield 3 as Henderson and would still need to be staring down the barrel of our current defence.

If you want to argue about then so be it.

12 Sep 2017 00:51:01
Liverpool often play with holding mid. In fact often we play with two.

You can't have five or six players attacking the opponents box and have added defencive players. It's one or the other or a balance. When we lose we call for balance and when we win we love it and praise our manager (quite rightly so)

11 Sep 2017 22:29:14
Ed025, I have seen every match Klopp has managed at Liverpool.

There is no defensive midfielder in the Liverpool squad unless you can point one out.

Lucas was used sparingly too. Stewart has been moved on.

Why can nobody see that Klopp has no plan of integrating a defensive midfielder and that we did not loose vs City because of the lack of on and do not need one because of hoofball.

{Ed025's Note - the way you defend perhaps thats exactly what you need then max, lm not a football manager but when lovren was at southampton he was seen as one of the best in the league, could that be because he had wanyama in front of him?, just a thought mate..

12 Sep 2017 06:45:00
MAX

Yes, The way we defend and our defense has been very poor. Regardless of Xabi we would still need two world class CB. But Xabi would bring a lot more stability than Hendo could even imagine coz he is a natural holding midfielder.

12 Sep 2017 16:22:10
Lovren looked quality at Southampton because of wanyama and schneiderlin screening and covering for him, full backs who could defend and a cb partner in Fonte who could organise and actually help him out.

Take him out of that and place him in an unorganized defensive set up consisting of Moreno and Klavan, with little to no midfield protection and a goalkeeper who offers no help on set pieces, he's going to struggle - anyone would.

12 Sep 2017 09:02:58
Ed25, Koeman played a defensive setup at Saints with Wanyama and Morgan in front of the defence, which made Lovren look good as he was well-protected. We don't play that way here hence, why he looks shaky at times.

Now Klopp used a DM in Kehl and then Bender or both in his early days in BVB. He then shifted to a DLP in Sahin when they won the league in 2011. At LFC, he does not use a true DM cos per ED01, he wants his midfield 3 to offer energy, press hard and defend as a group as soon as the ball is lost. This is the way we play the press cos if we press and the gaps are not filled in behind it, the press is useless and we become vulnerable. That is the way it is. If you want to argue about that, no issues there.

The CDM issue is just a pathetic misnomer and a false argument that brings nothing useful to the table. If you think a CDM would have helped us vs City when we were one man down then you are either naive or dishonest as we did not need a CDM to pummel all the top teams that Klopp has relentlessly pummeled since he arrived so why is it now suddenly an issue?

{Ed025's Note - i dont see myself as naive bingo and i resent you thinking i might be dishonest, it was an opinion of mine thats all and what i think could be a way forward if klopp was to deploy it to protect the back 4, i enjoy the banter with you and others but there is a line and in calling me dishonest that line has been breeched, i would say i am more tolerant that most ED,s but i have to advise you that your future on this site will depend on how sincere i think your apology is..

11 Sep 2017 21:15:34
Just watched the City highlights again (not sure why I torture myself like this lol) .
Our overly high defensive line was at fault for both the 1st and 3rd goals. Joel Matip (especially) looks disinterested in getting back to cover or he simply can't get out of what looks like 2nd gear.
The 2nd goal, I still feel Mignolet needs to be on his toes here and come for the cross. You can see DeBruyne set himself for a cross, it's an in-swinger and lands 5 to 6 yards out. Mignolet is flat footed right until Gabriel Jesus makes contact with the ball - this is terrible goalkeeping, you should always be on your toes when in a defensive situation. The 2 CBs are both picking up nothing and leave Moreno with 2 or 3 attackers and two of the midfield (Henderson and Wijnaldum) leave David Silva get into the 6 yard box too while they stand ball watching on the edge of the 18 yard box.
Sane's first goal (City's 4th) is decent movement, but again Matip (who can see Sane's position clearly) never tracks him or even looks interested in tracking him when Can gets dragged out to try to block the impending cross. Is this a question of laziness or lack of concentration? Not sure, but it's a worrying habit he had in this game.
The 5th goal while it looked spectacular, was again poor footwork from Mignolet being in part the reason why it went in. The ball was actually behind Sane when he made contact with his foot so there was a lot of curve on the ball, but Mignolet is 6 foot 4 inches tall, so his reach is not an issue. I think it's his footwork. He's not getting up on the balls of his feet and springing about in preparation for an explosive movement or a couple of steps before he dives. He just dives from a standing still position.
That's my analysis of our defending on Saturday for each goal anyway.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

11 Sep 2017 21:42:54
Thank heavens Moreno was not a part of this calamity. He is usual one who gets the first and most abuses.

11 Sep 2017 21:49:15
I know, wonders never cease eh?! I'm sure if he plays and we concede on Wednesday night, he'll be right back in the firing line. You can't keep a good man down :)

11 Sep 2017 22:11:52
Nobody looked interested as soon as Mane went off Orlish. I can't think of any chances they'd had, other than a brief loss of concentration for the goal, until Mane was sent off. Then all of a sudden after Mane, a forward had been sent off they started creating chances for fun. It looked like we just completely lost the plot. Taking Salah off just added to the problem as then we had no one stretching them in behind. Then moving Can into defence took a player out of the midfield and gave Silva and De Bruyne free reign. A good performance up to the red card was ruined by a poor decision from the referee, poor mentality from the players and poor decisions from the manager. The third goal summed us up for me. We allow Sane 5 yards of space on the edge of the box with no one even trying to close him down. We had just given up completely. However it's just one game that can be a positive if we analyse and learn from it. I think Sevilla might be in for a backlash on Wednesday night 😎😎.

11 Sep 2017 22:21:16
How did Moreno do on the second goal?

12 Sep 2017 00:07:58
How was it a poor decision from the ref Ings?
I assume you didn't see it properly or you haven't seen the photos of Ederson's face. Unless it's photoshopped, there's a picture doing the rounds on social media of numerous stitches in his cheek. I until Monday felt it was a poor decision too until I saw that and the still photo of the moment of impact. The ref wasn't wrong, he was following the letter of the law which is rigid. Unlucky, yes. Poor decision, definitely not! Sorry!

12 Sep 2017 00:15:52
I wouldn't expect Moreno to win a defensive header at 5 foot 6 or 7. He was left with 3 attackers around him, none of them very tall or prominent in the air but 3 on 1. The 2 CBs were asleep again and our keeper was flat footed. TAA didn't block the cross either. Nobody seems to blame him. Where was he to block the cross for goal number 4 too? Can had to go across which left Matip to track Same but he couldn't have been arsed it seems. Our centre of defence was exposed as slow and immobile when faced with decent movement which is very worrying.

12 Sep 2017 09:08:15
OIrish, your initial post is spot on and I saw the same things you did. We were well in the game until Mane's red and the whole team's defensive shape just went and then Migs' errors on the 2nd and 4th goals came to the fore again. If a ball comes in your 6 yard box, that is the GK's ball. He just stood there on his line even tho, our defence should have dealt with that cross instead, they all stood there ball watching. Migs also got beat at his near post on the 4th goal which is also unacceptable, red or not. We simply did not execute basic defensive functions in that game and that is what we should address, along with the GK issue as Migs cost us at least 2 of those goals, IMO.

I hear Rooney's agent has requested our neighbours from Across the Park change the music they run out to.

Baz.

{Ed025's Note - hes englands and united,s top scorer of all time baz which is one hell of a CV mate, as a person a complete idiot but as a footballer its very hard to knock him..

11 Sep 2017 21:42:58
Hard to knock him as a footballer. He could have been great. We will leave it at that.

ED025 is blushing 😎😎😎.

Great teenager, good in his early twenties, average in his late twenties, complete gash in his thirties. Wayne Rooney in a nutshell.

12 Sep 2017 00:32:34
Funny Liverpool fans bashing Rooney for drink driving, yet Firmino is like a god. Isn't he as big a tool as Rooney for the same offence then?

Not sure if he was taking a girl home in her own car whilst his pregnant wife was holidaying in Spain tho. though that's just a minor detail I guess.

If Aguero did to Mignolet what Mane did we would be crying blue murder. Actually think My about it if he kicked Mig in the head and he had to be subbed we would probably give Aguero a standing ovation. Before people get their knickers in a twist it's a joke and we're on a banter page.

11 Sep 2017 18:28:03
Has anyone spoken with any Huddersfield fans to see what they made of Danny Ward while he was with them?
I've personally watched him sporadically while he came up through the youth teams with us. I never found him spectacular but he was assured and a right character. I'm not saying he's still at that level (be it high or low or anything) although you'd have to assume he has gotten better, just curious to know if Huddersfield fans think he's good enough for a club playing in the Champions League.
I was highly impressed with his one match in pre-season against Atletico - made a couple of good saves and looked assured. Can't judge him on one performance and certainly not in a pre-season friendly. Is he good enough?

Believable5 Unbelievable1

11 Sep 2017 19:31:08
He's brill keeper or shall I say better than anything we have got so worth ago putting him inn.

11 Sep 2017 19:37:45
Olrish, difficult to tell really with Ward as he was given a chance by Klopp in 15/ 16 (about 4 games) and seen as he was playing in Scotland and in the Championship, it is really dificult to judge him. Same with Karius. He came to us highly rated from Germany and after ten games, he was binned mainly due to the fans who turned on him rather than cos he made two mistakes in the 10 games he played in, as that proves nothing. Both GK's are talented
and potentially better than Migs BUT we don't really know if either is the solution long term as either needs a true run in the team, not just 4 or 10 gmes.

Now what we do know is that Migs overall in his LFC career, is poor and has only been good enough in the last two months of last season through out his time here. I do think that Karius will get the nod ahead of Ward cos Klopp signed him and he simply won't just give up on him and he shouldn't. He is already sending Migs a message thru his benching vs Arsenal that Karius is breathing down his neck and if he continues to get beaten at his near post by Sane or staying on his line for the City second goal, he will be sent packing for good.

11 Sep 2017 20:00:28
I am sorry but why do Klopp persist with Migs if he is so so poor?

{Ed025's Note - lack of any viable alternative harry..

11 Sep 2017 20:01:45
I'm from Huddersfield and went to quite a few of their games last year. Town had 2 keepers to choose from in Danny Ward and Joel Coleman however with Joel being 21 and joining from Oldham, he didn't really have much competition.

He was a really good team player, seemed to really gel well with the lads and certainly was vocal when he had to be in game situations.

He was a good shot stopper and wasn't afraid to use any part of his body to make a save. He has a big frame and is agile for his size. He was good in 1 on 1 situations and you probably saw what he did for us in the playoffs stopping shots from the penalty spot!

The only issues I saw with him was at times he had trouble dealing with balls coming into the box from wide positions. If it was a 50/ 50 he'd sometimes go for it, realize he couldn't get there and get caught in no mans land.

I think that he'd face similar issues to Mignolet and Karius in that the back 4 would do him no favors, however I think that he would make less individual mistakes.

I wouldn't be upset to see him get a chance.

11 Sep 2017 20:26:37
Thanks to all for replies.

B. R. - fair points that you made there, I think Mignolet could have done better with the 1st, definitely for the second as he could read a cross coming in early but never came off his line and the near post goal could have been saved too even though is was reasonably powerful.
Even the 5th goal, it was a decent placement, but it was from such a long way out that it made me question his footwork for the first time, he's 6 foot 4, so his reach isn't the problem.
He made some decent saves in the match too but overall he's just not good enough in my eyes, enough is enough persevering with him now for goodness sake.

W. C. D. - Because Klopp is trying to be faithful to a player he still believed in up until Saturday.
I was going to ask you to change your profile name to "We Can Attack" on Friday for a little positivity but after Saturday (10 men or not), your profile name deserves to remain for now lol.

Tomsbakery - Good to hear from someone who has actually watched him play live, I firmly believe you can only appreciate a player when viewed live. Remember seeing Alonso live years ago and was blown away by his work rate, stuff you just don't see on tv. Yeah I think if we had Buffon in goal at his peak, we'd still concede numerous goals with the way we defend, but it's the individual mistakes we need to cut out like the ones Mignolet made on Saturday. Worrying me though that you think Ward is susceptible to ball crossed in from out wide. Keepers have to come for crosses anywhere near their 6 yard box in my opinion, most especially if they're in-swingers like for City's second goal on Saturday and your defenders are literally useless at marking/ heading like ours are, clearly.

11 Sep 2017 21:09:09
I think it is fair to say that playing in the Championship for Huddrsfield vs playing for Liverpool in the EPL are two completely different situations.

Ward will not be able to prove himself at Liverpool unless he is given a chance and neither will Karius.

I doubt Ward or Karius will perform worse than Mignolet if given a proper chance so Klopp honestly does need to either drop Mignolet in totality or face the fact that he will be stuck with the continuous problems Mignolet has left him with.

11 Sep 2017 21:13:40
Great debate on this thread, boys. May I provide a solution to this issue. In the NFL, there is a well-known saying that, "If you have 3 QB's, you have NO QB". Migs is like the QB that will throw a TD pass and throw an interception right after that. That will get any NFL coach fired so clearly, he is not and will never be the answer.

Therefore, let us do what Pep did with Hart at City. He knew Hart was crap, for a fact. What did he do? He binned him w/ o even looking twice and brought in Bravo. Bravo clearly fluffed his lines BUT he got his chance for a whole season to show he was crap so no argument can be had there. Now, he has Ederson and he will be given this season to prove himself. Now, Pep does not have to worry about Hart or Bravo as they are now proven failures. This is what Klopp has to do now.

We know Migs is crap so get rid ASAP as in bench him now. Then, Klopp will prolly pick Karius to take over as he is his signing and if he does pick him, he should be given the full season to show if he is the guy long term with Ward as his deputy for the time being. At the end of the season, we re-evaluate to see if we can rely on either or both or we go get another one in the summer. By doing this, we would have eliminated the problem called Migs which allows us to focus on getting the best out of the other two GK's. Any thoughts?

11 Sep 2017 21:23:06
Yes Max, I think it's definitely time for a change in goal. But I also feel our centre of defence was awful on Saturday mate as well as the midfield. I'd love to see Matip's top speed average for Saturday, he looked disinterested in "sprinting" back at times which helped cost us, especially Sane's 1st goal - he was clearly in Matip's eye line but he never bothered to track Sane after he laid the ball off to the wide player for City to cross.
Himself and TAA both jogged back leisurely for the 1st goal and similar for the 3rd goal too. He needs a kick up the you know what in all honesty, Matip has so much promise but no "Umph" it looks like at times.

11 Sep 2017 21:30:34
BR - I wouldn't disagree with what you said above one bit mate.
He's had his chance and just isn't able sadly.
Time to give the young guns their time in the sun.

12 Sep 2017 09:20:37
With you there, Max. Managers like to deal with what they know which is based on what they have seen. Pep knew Hart was crap, binned him, brought Bravo in who was crap and binned him too. He did this based on visual evidence after a both having a long run of games to prove their uselessness. The same has to happen here as Karius and Ward surely cannot be any worse than Migs who is a perennial failure. Klopp has to do this now and end it for good.

Olirish, this is the way to go and we know it works. You don't see anyone giving Pep grief for what he did, do you? That is how you know it works and I think Klopp is slowly sending that message to Migs that "hey, keep screwing up and you will sent packing" after he benched him vs Arsenal and bar 3 poor kicks, Karius handled what little came his way very well and kept a clean sheet.

11 Sep 2017 18:27:25
Although We got defeated at Etihad, I was not
Surprised, only issue was that we were down 1 which increasesd the magnitude.

Gjesus, Aguero, kdb Silva are just world-class, they are very strong in all positions.

We are still good unit. Hopefully AOC will get the node. in coming games.

Also 4th position is the best we might get this year.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

11 Sep 2017 18:49:20
They get the red card we win, we got the red card they won, result hinged on red card.

{Ed025's Note - what if there was no red card 007?..

11 Sep 2017 19:21:18
Probably a draw ed025. But then Klavan was on the pitch. so maybe not.

{Ed025's Note - i have to say a draw was my guess MrD..

11 Sep 2017 19:34:30
Regardless of that red card City's attack was still up against our defence. Yes our attack was up against their defence but I honestly believe their midfield was winning the battle on there. De Bruyne was almost doing it single handedly.

11 Sep 2017 19:44:02
Maybe people need to stop slamming Klavan as he seems to be an easy target. I did not see anyone slamming him when he shut out Benteke (who is bigger, taller, and stronger than him) vs Palace so what's the problem now.

Another question is why was Klavan marking both Jesus and Aguero? Cos Matip was ball watching, that's why. Matip was actually worse than him in that game and hung him out to dry for their first goal as he just stood there and watched Aguero run into the space btw he and Klavan and made no effort to cover the space and help put Aguero off. Klavan is who he but at least, he gives his all and has had very good games for us overall. Maybe it is time Matip got some of the blame for his lack of effort, laziness in tracking back and covering for his own lapses during games.

{Ed001's Note - sure it wasn't Klavan who was out of position too deep? It did look that way to me. That he had bottled it and dropped. Understandable and shows the lack of understanding between the two centre backs that Matip did not drop off as well or that Klavan did not hold the line instead.}

11 Sep 2017 20:02:00
Bingo, it is not so much about slamming Klavan, more about we have no CB partnership which works. Klavan is of no use to us if he cannot connect with the player next to him.

As it stands, Lovren and Matip are our best option as a pair at CB but that ain't saying much either.

Maybe Gomez with either Matip or Lovren could be the difference but unless that is tried by Klopp then things will not change.

Klavan should be 4th choice and nothing more, nothing less.

11 Sep 2017 20:36:33
Klavan never got goal side if Agureo I play center half first thing I would have done is get goal side of Agureo that pass wouldn't of been so easy.

{Ed025's Note - bring your boots for the weekend mate..

11 Sep 2017 20:36:40
Gomes needs to start being integrated into that first team now. Okay maybe throwing him straight in every game might be a bit too much straight away but we should aggressively integrate the lad.

11 Sep 2017 21:18:32
He is already being integrated gradually as the RB (a pretty good one at that, i might add) as he needs games to get fully fit after his injury. I do agree with you that at some point, he will actually have to play CB for us cos as Max said, Matip and Lovren as a partnership is our most reliable which is not saying much, really.

11 Sep 2017 21:26:29
Gomez has been integrated into the team, he is likely to take Clyne's spot this season.

11 Sep 2017 23:42:45
Klaven played well against palace so there was no criticism. He was poor against Citeh so he was criticised. Simples. You are as good as your last performance.

11 Sep 2017 17:55:19
Who else thinks loaning out Ryan Kent is a mistake as soon as 1 of our wingers is suspended or injured off have no cover, and Kent had a very good pre season ripping Bayern. Munichs defence up.

Believable7 Unbelievable6

11 Sep 2017 18:06:17
I do think it was a mistake. He looked fantastic in Pre season. I dot know what you gain loaning him to Germany when he need to adjust to the physicality of the English league anyways. His chances got limited due the purchase of AOX. What did we gain?

People want Gomez to be given chances but they are happy with Kent being loaned or. Massive Lol!

11 Sep 2017 18:23:36
We have cover for mane in coutinio and AOC. Think Kent was great in pre season but woodburn must be in front of him? If he can get more games in Germany then it was a good move. I know woodburn isn't really a winger but he can and has played there before. I think people are calling for gomes because what we have isn't working great.11 goals in six games isn't good enough. Maybe it's worth trying the youngster.

11 Sep 2017 18:42:33
Think we have enough cover in the wide areas lads come on.
Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Woodburn, AOC, Lallana, TAA and Wilson can all play there if required.
Some are not natural there obviously but they can't all play at the same time can they?!
Kent will get great experience abroad and if he's a success he'll be a rotation option next season.
We also have Markovic if needs be unless he left in the last day or two.
That's 9 players who CAN play wide off the top of my head.
Would you rather Kent was sat on the bench all season in the hope of injury/ suspension to 5 or 6 players who are in front of him for selection (Coutinho, Mane, Salah, AOC, Lallana and it could be argued Woodburn are all ahead of him right now to start in a wide position)?
He might get 20 games in Germany in a top league, that experience is priceless.
Yes he looked good in some pre-season friendlies but so do many players who never fulfill their potential, you can't judge a player in pre-season, good or bad.
Klopp obviously felt he wouldn't get games this season after assessing him, so a loan is a great idea and it's to a top league as well, great move for all concerned.
Have faith!

11 Sep 2017 19:30:38
I would play him in the cup games .

11 Sep 2017 19:35:54
We spent 35 million on Ox who can cover the wing. What's there to worry about.

11 Sep 2017 19:56:43
Β£35m is a drop in the ocean now when it comes to the rise of prices in the transfer market.

I suggest fans look past the transfer fee from now on as prices for players are not going to matter anymore.

If any club can afford the fee, then they will pay it. It is as simple as that. Irrespective of who they sign.

11 Sep 2017 20:33:12
Exactly Max, it's not like it's their own bloody money now is it and if Chamberlain provides 6 or 7 season's of good service for us, it'll seem like pocket change when he's retired/ moved on.
He's literally only just turned 24, he's got so much to learn and improve.
Lallana had nowhere near Chamberlain's experience and potential at 24, remember that all you moaners. Even now, at 5 years younger, Chamberlain has probably played more top level matches than Lallana yet he's still raw and learning each game. Lallana, I would suggest has already peaked or maybe even has seen his best seasons.

11 Sep 2017 20:38:46
I think AOC will come good for us.

{Ed025's Note - im not too sure about that mate..

11 Sep 2017 17:44:19
Liverpool will appeal Mane's three game ban. The hearing will be tomorrow.

Believable1 Unbelievable1

{Ed025's Note - which will become a 4 game ban imo harry, im amazed that they are even considering an appeal to be honest mate..

11 Sep 2017 17:59:14
They are reading too many crap stories published in papers.

11 Sep 2017 17:59:59
It's a bad idea and we may regret it, Ed.

{Ed025's Note - i think that as well bingo but hopefully they have something that will get the ban overturned mate...but i cant see it..

11 Sep 2017 18:13:45
Sometimes wonder what cloud people who run the club are on.

11 Sep 2017 18:14:02
Are they planning on arguing that it was not violent conduct, thus warranting a shorter ban? That's the only angle I can see, I think ed025 and BR are right to be honest.

11 Sep 2017 18:09:15
Dont think they are looking to get it overturned fully ed mate but reduced. can't see it myself. Lucky we have Kent Ojo and Origi ay, ah no maybe not.

11 Sep 2017 18:45:51
Here is the leaked transcript of the hearing:

Q: was his foot raised?
A: Yes

Q: was it endangering an opponent?
A: Yes

Hearing dismissed.

{Ed025's Note - i think you have got it spot on ron..

11 Sep 2017 19:07:52
Why oh bloody why appeal it?
It's the letter of the law. Unlucky? Yes, but letter of the law says red unfortunately and with a straight red comes a mandatory 3 match ban (2 league and 1 cup match he was unlikely to play in anyway) .
Why appeal?
The only thing in Mane's favour is the video of him with eyes on the ball.
Everything else suggests dangerous play.
Sometimes I wonder about the decision makers at Liverpool FC.
Unbelievable!

11 Sep 2017 19:12:20
Their goalie clearly deliberately headbutted manes boot he's got previous for that.

11 Sep 2017 19:22:38
Vexatious appeal, pointless.

11 Sep 2017 19:28:47
Klopp has just said the only a " PEEL " will be from his ORANGE?

11 Sep 2017 19:42:21
Matt Ritchie should have been sent off this weekend too though.

The level of mediocrity when it comes to match officials in the EPL needs to be exposed as there are major inconsistencies.

You cannot see a yellow for one match that should have been red and the complete opposite for another match as the rules should be the same for everyone.

{Ed025's Note - very true max..

11 Sep 2017 20:07:51
I'm gutted Mane will miss a few games, but a red card is not really a shocking result from that incident. I don't think anyone believes it was intentional, but of course he was endangering an opponent, as the outcome proves. Being the type of player he is, Mane was always going to go for the ball, and I don't think anyone begrudges him that, but having your foot that high in the air, travelling at that speed, towards someone else inevitably going for the same ball isn't going to end well. Players have been sent off for much less. Think we should just suck it up and move on. These things happen sometimes don't they, and for those who feel we are hard done by, I'm sure there will be many occasions this season where a decision goes our way and balances things out.

11 Sep 2017 17:41:03
I take back everything I said over the weekend in regards to Mane/ Ederson and my initial belief that it wasn't a red card.
I have since seen that it was a clear red card, there was clearly contact of some sort to Ederson's head and body. Mane had both his feet off the ground which is technically "not in control" which leads to red cards these days a lot of the time. The Matt Richie incident though again shows up inconsistent refereeing decisions which really needs addressing in this day and age with technology as it is. I know he didn't touch the defender, but again his two feet off the ground and very little difference with the Mane/ Ederson incident.
Looking forward to Seville on Wednesday and putting a smile back on out faces hopefully.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

11 Sep 2017 18:44:12
Do think it was slightly harsh but there's not a hope in hell it will get a reduction on his 3 games.

11 Sep 2017 19:31:52
Both feet off. the ground that means all header's are not in control city player only few. mins before red card went in on henderson. both feet of the ground. ref saw gave a free kick but never even booked him it's the inconsistency that gets people mad.

11 Sep 2017 17:19:28
What puzzles me most with our defence is how often Klopp changes the personnel.

Across the back four and goal keeper we have swapped players and we have only just started the season - how can they possibly start to get an understanding.

Its clear that we need to be more vocal, organised and have greater desire to not let a goal in.

I would go with Ward, Robertson, Lovren, Gomez and TAA. As many "home grown " players as possible that hopefully have the desire and willingness to do all that is possible to stop goals.

On Saturday, when going down to 10 men - this harms your attacking options, but we should still be able to defend well enough to stay in the game and frustrate city . the capitulation was awful.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

11 Sep 2017 17:36:56
You're right, the capitulation was awful.

But. it isn't the first time a team have folded under those circumstances and I doubt it will be the last either.

You could see before the red that a few of the lads were tired after international duty (which shouldn't be forgotten) and red card, quickly followed by a second goal made their heads drop.

As was said during match commentary, if we had got in at half time still 1-0 we could have re-grouped and possibly nicked a goal but the damage was done.

I'm not making excuses for them as I do agree with you to an extent. But, I think it's one of them games we just need to forget about as of now and look forward to Wednesday night.

11 Sep 2017 17:50:02
I did not see us getting anything out of the game when Mane was sent off but damage limitation was required.

Taking off Salah was one thing but Klopp's biggest mistake was taking Can out of midfield and changing to a back three vs City.

That is why the flood gates opened.

11 Sep 2017 17:50:17
And inspite of this we have conceded a total of 10 goals already. I think we will surely hit half century this season.

{Ed025's Note - you are not great at the back harry but i would wager that you dont let in 5 in any other game this season mate, that was a one off and circumstances dictated the level of defeat..

11 Sep 2017 18:08:38
Weller, you are aware that teams often rotate their players esp. in defence, right? So why you are surprised that we made changes to the line up in defence after the int'l break, I have no idea. However, I do agree with you that playing with a man short does not and should not stop you from executing basic defensive work, which was not done for City's first 3 goals. There is where my concern mostly lies. The rest? We learn the lessons and move on.

11 Sep 2017 18:09:32
We conceded 3 against watford and I am sure there would atlest 3 more games going forward where we would concede 3. That's 25 already which is what Spurs conceded all last season!

11 Sep 2017 18:13:54
Coutinho, and City had no players on international duty?

11 Sep 2017 18:51:50
We have been mentally weak for 3 or 4 seasons. I have lost count of the number of times we have been pegged back. I honestly don't trust the players we have in the defence and Mignolet/ Karius. Unless we're 3 goals up with 5 minutes to go, I don't rest easy. It's ridiculous, there's a nervousness right round the team and Henderson as captain should be taking a game (when we're winning) by the scruff of the neck, by slowing the game down, taking yellow cards for time wasting if required and doing what the top European teams do, when fouled - sit on the ground for 20 to 30 seconds and waste time.

{Ed025's Note - im not sure that thats a winning formula kev, and you certainly wont make many friends mate..

11 Sep 2017 18:54:01
Bingo, we have only played a few games and not one of the back four who played on Saturday has played every game. so rotation on what basis ? . as they are tired ? - we are playing Man City, get out there and give it everything.

Not sure other teams have used so many defenders at this stage of the season and with using so many none of them have a chance to form any sort of understanding. Pick a back 4 a GK and work with them to get better - keep changing players, especially in defence will never work.

11 Sep 2017 19:10:59
Mcgoveb ofcourse they did, hence why they wern't so great themselves up until the red card. A brilliant through ball from a world class KDB was the difference up until the red.

When Mane got sent off that would have given a boost to their players would it not? While ours just felt sorry for themselves!

11 Sep 2017 20:08:48
kev totally disagree mate, hate seeing time wasting stuff like that and thank god we don't do it and when we do i hate it.

11 Sep 2017 21:25:43
Weller, you are aware that there was an inter'l break and Klopp like most managers, had to pick a team based on the fitness levels of the players after they arrived from their various countries, right? This is what I mean by rotation. Keep up, bro.

{Ed025's Note - thats an excuse not a reason bingo, its four games in and these are highly tuned super fit athletes supposedly mate..

11 Sep 2017 21:47:25
I understand why it would be hated as we're not known for it but if it's what wins us a vital game and saves me from a heart attack, I'd definitely not be fully against it. I appreciate why people would be against it though obviously.

{Ed025's Note - i would like to believe liverpool are above underhanded things that that kev..

12 Sep 2017 00:18:44
No mate, we're desperate now πŸ˜†
That's what nearly 30 years of not winning a title does to ya.

{Ed025's Note - but would you want to win it dishonestly kev?, actually i hope you dont answer that mate..

11 Sep 2017 17:16:18
Appealing the Mane red card is pointless IMO, it's only going to conclude with Mane getting banned for extra games. Whoever make's these decisions must be smoking what they were at the Emirates a few years ago.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed025's Note - i agree MM, foolish to the extreme mate..

11 Sep 2017 17:51:27
There are some dumb heads in the club who thinks same as some posters here! Ritchie got away with it why not Mane then?

11 Sep 2017 18:06:54
If the appeal is unsuccessful and it is 4 game ban, who will the fourth game be against.

11 Sep 2017 18:09:15
Dumbest idea, ever.

11 Sep 2017 16:52:55
Ed01, as you've said Conte has Kante and Jose play a more defensive style and also has Magic protecting the back 4, shouldn't one of Hendo, Can or Wini be protecting our back 4. It's not like they are attacking balls in the opposition box all the time so shouldn't they be offering more defensively?
Or is Klopp telling all 3 to push forward at every opportunity?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - they are meant to work as a group, to make sure one is always dropping in etc. They just aren't quite together yet. Hopefully it is just because it is so early in the season and it just hasn't come together.}

11 Sep 2017 17:19:45
Who of the three would you prefer to concentrate on the defensive side or do you believe any of the three can carry out that role if the other two bomb forward?

{Ed001's Note - any of them should be able to. All of them are better getting forward. Plus you can never tell who is going to be in a position to get forward.}

11 Sep 2017 17:53:25
Coz they are offensive midfielders whose natural instinct is to attack. Would you ever ask Scholes to protect the defense? No you don't instead you play a Butt or Keane alongside him.

11 Sep 2017 18:10:59
That is the best explanation of the reason why Klopp does not or no longer plays with a true DM (he had Kehl and Bender at first when he arrived at BVB) I have ever read. Thanks for the info, Ed.

11 Sep 2017 13:27:15
Hi eds, what do you think of Ryan shawcross as answer to our defensive problems? Looks like good defender, not the Hummels ball playing type but solid in air and positionally good.

Believable0 Unbelievable8

{Ed001's Note - he is slow, sluggish, violent and not good enough. He is an octupus who can get away with it at a smaller club but would be highlighted with us.}

11 Sep 2017 13:54:49
Ed001, just imagine how Beautiful a Matip-Shawcross Octopia could look. Matip for the passing, Shawcross for killing strikers etc.

And 13ft1 combined!

{Ed001's Note - the very thought makes me feel sick.}

11 Sep 2017 14:23:50
We need a character more than a player at the back. A proper Captain material. Dissapointed with the academy stopped producing center backs. Our defense doesn't open their mouth! They can't head a normal football. We need two proper CB's. That's the bottom line!

11 Sep 2017 14:45:37
Its September Harry, the window is closed so harping on about what we need is pointless. You are not saying anything new which most fans don't already know. We can only hope that we do what we did last season, scoring plenty of goals, maybe not have the dip in form around January and very little injuries. Do that and we will be in the mix, hopefully.

11 Sep 2017 14:07:10
LMAO ed01.

11 Sep 2017 14:11:14
Serious question Ed, would you start Gomez in centre back?

I think i am at the point now where i would.

{Ed001's Note - I would have anyway before the season started mate. I think you have to take the risk of him making mistakes as he should learn from them, whereas we know Lovren, Klavan and Matip make mistakes without learning anything.}

11 Sep 2017 14:49:41
This is a joke right? Ryan Shawcross? The same lumbering thug that thinks taking down people and elbowing them is the purest art of defending?
Hardly the type of player Klopp would want. VVD is more Klopp's type.

11 Sep 2017 15:05:02
See i agree Ed. I think he is our best centre back already.

My only reservation is that i can already see Carragher, Shearer, Murphy and Neville etc using their fancy touch screens to somehow blame Gomez's inexperience for every goal we would concede! He'd get the same treatment Karius got until the fans turned on him πŸ™„ if it weren't for that i would have no doubts.

The bloody media witch hunt in this country is set up to ruin young careers though.

{Ed001's Note - I agree, even though the defence was making mistakes without him, the media would love to jump on him and blame him for everything.}

11 Sep 2017 15:06:15
Ed01, firstly, who would you pair Gomez with?

Secondly, who would you like us to buy as a new Centre Back (or two if you think we need two) .

{Ed001's Note - it would depend, I would work on him with Lovren though, as I think it might help him having the more physical presence alongside him. Might help Lovren to have to think about protecting Gomez, rather than just jumping in. However, if I was in charge I would have tried him alongside both Matip and Lovren in preseason to see which developed the better partnership.

As for buying, Koulibaly would be the one I would go for, from the ones I have seen.}

11 Sep 2017 15:21:59
Give gomes games this season and he will be well prepared to partner vvd next season. If they sell to us.

11 Sep 2017 15:52:21
Do you think we might look to bring one in in January ed? Appreciate its along way off mate.

{Ed002's Note - Kalidou Koulibaly is not an option for January and thus far Klopp does not see the issues that others do with his interest beyond van Dijk seemingly non existant. Although a number of clubs are already talking January transfers between them it is a very difficult time to plan to do any specific business.}

11 Sep 2017 15:53:52
Ed001,
Really think we should have moved in for Sule before Bayern Signed him. Looked really good last season.

{Ed002's Note - He had already agreed to join Bayern Munich. There was interest from England but not from Liverpool.}

11 Sep 2017 16:27:30
I think taa will become a fantastic player. Probably midfielder but inexperience can cost in tough games. Against the very best teams I would line up.

Gk = karius
RB = Milner
RCB = gomes
LCB = lovren
LB = Robertson.

Defencively I feel these are the best players we have at the club. Ed is right when he says gomes should play, he may make mistakes born out of inexperience but our experienced cbs are making mistakes anyway so what do we have to lose? In fact we stand to gain a young experienced quality cb.

I know Milner at RB may be controversial and taa must be given games to gain experience and confidence but in some games we have to lay off the total football and use our heads. Milner may be able to take charge back there and he won't need to keep cutting onto his right foot like he did at lb.

We missed coutinio against city but the player we really missed was lallana imo.

11 Sep 2017 16:40:38
We need 2 STELLAR centre halfs not one.

11 Sep 2017 16:42:52
Thank you eds, for replies, real champs u guys! Cheers.

11 Sep 2017 16:49:07
I'd agree with you Ed on putting him in with Lovren, although he has mistakes in him I think he'd concentrate better with the young lad beside him. I just don't see Gomez getting help from Matip, he'd be hung out to dry when Matip goes wandering and doesn't come back to cover. Could be the making of Lovren, hope it happens as what we are currently doing is certainly not working.

{Ed001's Note - that would be my concern with Matip, he just wanders off with no thought. I don't mind the going forward bit, but I object to him strolling back when we are being attacked and he could easily help.}

11 Sep 2017 17:59:58
How can all the fans and pundits see for past 2 seasons the need centre backs and 4 eyed Klopp doesn't, how can he not see this.

11 Sep 2017 18:17:34
That is a distinct lack of desire and laziness on his part, Ed and that is unacceptable. But the media and some of the fans seem to never give him the business and on the other hand, look to blame Klava or Lovren for everything.

Look at City's first goal. When we lose the ball, Klavan has Aguero and Jesus either side of him. What was Matip doing? He just stood there and did not recognize the danger and shuffle back. Had he done that, it would have put Aguero off with Matip forcing him wide. Instead who got the blame? Klavan. Same with Karius. He got the blame for our loss and draw to B'mouth and WH whereas his defence hung him out to dry and offered no protection.

11 Sep 2017 13:08:17
Not a great performance on Saturday or result. I don't understand why after 3 years we r still short in defence and center midfield. Dropping the keeper each week, is not helping, don't know why klopp won't play Robertson at left back and why did he not buy another center half he's had enuf time to sort it out now. As always great to watch going forward but we will concede goals every match that will cost us dearly. Just confused both some of klopp's decisions. Ynwa.

Believable3 Unbelievable3

11 Sep 2017 13:39:11
Roro, Ed01 has explained Klopp's situation with the CB's and what he really wants to do with them right now so I suggest you the posts or ask him to inform you on this instead of just blaming Klopp left right and center.

Just my thinking but Robbo may not have played cos he played both games for Scotland while Moreno was fresh throughout the int'l break. Not so hard to understand really if you look at it from a coach's perspective. I do agree that Klopp really wants Migs gone but has signaled to him that his place is on the line now esp. with Karius keeping a clean sheet in the Arsenal game (tho, he had nothing to do) . We shall see.

11 Sep 2017 14:08:57
The one good thing to come out of Saturdays game is the fact that karius simply has to get the shirt now.

11 Sep 2017 14:15:05
You should apply for the post of private secretary to Klopp Bingo. You could probably revolutionize this page. There are times when even he admits he got it wrong but not you. No offense mate!

11 Sep 2017 15:26:39
klopp has given every defender at the club a chance apart from Flanagan why not give WARD a run of games see how he gets on can't be any worse than karias or migonlet.

11 Sep 2017 18:19:00
Your post like many others that you make, makes no sense, Harry.

11 Sep 2017 12:31:21
Hi Everyone,

Here is a happy distraction for you all to take your minds off the weekend result.

Ryan Kent didn't make the bench as Frieburg drew 0-0 with Dortmund.

Jordan Williams made his debut for Rochdale, however it was a game to forget as Blackburn won 3-0. Williams was subbed after an hour.

Toni Gomes also had a debut to forget as Forest Green lost 3-1 to Exeter. Gomes was subbed after an hour.

Allan was an unused sub as Apollon Limassol drew 1-1 with Olympiakos Nicosia.

Origi made his debut for Wolfsburg and played the full match as they drew 1-1 at home to Hannover.
Origi was given an offical match rating of 6.4.

Chirivella made his debut for Willem II playing the full 90 as they fell to a 2-1 home defeat to ADO Den Haag.

Brooks Lennon came on in the 76th minute as Real Salt lake searched for an equaliser against Vancouver. Unfortunately it wasn't to be and they lost the game 3-2.

Shamal George was an unused sub as Carlisle lost 3-0 to Accrington Stanley.

Randall played the full 90 as Hearts drew 0-0 at home to Aberdeen.

Ojo was not named in the match day squad as Fulham drew 1-1 at home to Cardiff.

Not a single win. but wait.

Naby Keita was named MOTM, scored a 25 yard rocket and got booked in a busy afternoon as RBL beat Hamburger SV 2-0.

And that's your lot. I am off on holiday tomorrow so I will not be able to provide you with an update next week. don't miss me to much :)

Believable11 Unbelievable1

11 Sep 2017 12:39:59
Missing you already mate, have a good time 😘.

11 Sep 2017 13:05:31
Cheers Carra, always appreciate your updates mate.

11 Sep 2017 13:19:07
Miss you more.

The first thing I will be doing is finding a bar that will be showing the game Wednesday night.

11 Sep 2017 13:31:59
and that is why i love this site, thank you carra, gold poster ;)

11 Sep 2017 14:10:09
Is that the real carra? Absolute legend!

11 Sep 2017 14:45:14
Not forgetting that Taiwo Awoniyi played an hour for Mouscron's home win against Bruges.

11 Sep 2017 15:07:41
Ah yes, cheers Rittlers. I was just testing to make sure you were paying attention.

11 Sep 2017 15:34:43
Don't forget big Ron; heard he's in the running.

11 Sep 2017 10:32:49
Morning eds

Do you happen to no if we are appealing Mane's red card mate please?

It was a red imo by the way.

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - then why would we appeal?}

11 Sep 2017 10:42:28
I believe if you lose the appeal, the suspension can be lengthened if the appeal has no merit.
Looking at the laws of the game, an appeal has no merit IMO.

11 Sep 2017 10:54:42
As it is just my opinion ed and not the clubs. i've seen so many people over the weekend saying it was or wasnt a red and just wondered if we thought it was worth appealing.

{Ed002's Note - No, there won't be an appeal.}

11 Sep 2017 10:58:17
Take the 3 game ban and move on.

11 Sep 2017 11:02:48
No need to appeal. It won the be revoked anyways. Two league games and one cup game. Let's see it out. Why did we expanded the squad? Salah goes to the right and Coutinho comes to the left!

11 Sep 2017 11:42:30
Or Harry, Ox comes on the right and Mane to the left with Cou behind the front three.

11 Sep 2017 11:54:48
No point appealing as it would be vexatious and without merit. Soak it up and move on. Mane will get some matches in Europe so it isn't so bad.

11 Sep 2017 12:23:07
Sorry I meant Salah to the left, not Mane.

11 Sep 2017 12:24:06
Bingo
That's also a decent line up! But I don't know if Ox would want to play there.

11 Sep 2017 12:33:48
Pretty sure the Ox wants to play on the wing.

11 Sep 2017 13:22:02
All the talk is of the ox wanting to play in the middle. Personally I think he just doesn't want to play wing back. England don't play with wing backs and with some good wingers he's probably worried about his England future. I'm sure he will be pleased to play on the wing (front line) for us.

11 Sep 2017 16:17:31
Ox can play where Ox is told to play and like it, just like every other player in the clubs history. We've already seen how any other attitude holds the club back by Gerrards inability to ever take home a title.

11 Sep 2017 17:21:07
It seems we have indeed appealed then ed?

11 Sep 2017 08:58:59
I just want to apologise to anyone who watched or was at the game.

It was my fault. In my fantasy team, i chose to transfer De Bruyne out for Mane, and made Mane captain.

Mane would go on to be red carded scoring me -4 after the double points was applied (ouch) and De Bruyne would create 2 goals in our demolition and make team of week.

I have now transferred Mane out and put in Pogba, so hopefully he now has my kiss of death.

Believable9 Unbelievable4

11 Sep 2017 09:25:03
I did the exact same. I thought the 'liverpool players in fantasy team jinx' had been lifted. I was wrong. Apologies to all.

11 Sep 2017 09:32:30
Bxstards! However I'm pleased to announce I have moved about 80 places and am now in the top 15 in the rumours league, back of the net!

11 Sep 2017 09:59:16
Only change fantasy teams just before the first game incase of injuries in champions league etc.

11 Sep 2017 10:28:00
I can't believe you will play video games MK πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„.

11 Sep 2017 10:56:56
It's not a video game Harry πŸ˜‚ i do love a good lads night in though with Fifa, Pizza and beer!

11 Sep 2017 11:00:13
Nice one, MK.

11 Sep 2017 16:18:32
I did my best to mitigate this damage by taking out Trent AA for Bailey, it broke United's defence but sadly couldn't fix ours.

11 Sep 2017 08:25:42
Re the red card : It's a red all day long according to the rule book. Question is should mane had done any different? He's a really quick player just seen the ball loop over the mancs defenders, ederson just started to come out. He thinks he has time to take the ball down and round the keeper and any other keeper he would've done just that . Problem is ederson is very quick in rushing out quicker than he expected. If mane was slightly quicker or ederson was slightly slower its 1-1.if mane was slightly slower or ederson quicker its a good clearance . It was just unfortunate.

Believable2 Unbelievable2

11 Sep 2017 09:34:16
At the end of the day, it was a red. Fair enough. The question is therefore one of consistency, since it is reasonable and fair to say that it was a reckless challenge which endangered and opponent, albeit one without intent, why the referee didn't see fit to issue a card for an equally reckless challenge which endangered an opponent earlier in the game by Otamendi on Salah, which was two footed, had no intent to ply the ball and was a wild lunge out of control.

11 Sep 2017 11:03:41
The thing to learn from this is for Mane to use his head for a head-height ball. Raising your foot for a ball that high is dangerous pla to begin with. A player getting a face full of studs if you miss the ball is a red card. Had he jumped for the ball and tried to head it, regardless of the outcome, he is never getting sent off. That is the lesson to be learnt.

11 Sep 2017 16:24:22
He had to go for that ball, and let's be honest - the red wasn't given because it was by the rulebook a red card offence. It was given because of result of the challenge. There has been at least one of those challenges a week that is barely looked at by the ref - another one yesterday by Richie (which also hit the player in the head) was only given a yellow. I had no problem with it being given a red and no problem with Mane for going for it- my issue is yet again with the inconsistency of refs decisions and the complete lack of introspection by refs and refs union in officiating games.

11 Sep 2017 16:51:23
Credit to Gary Neville and Robbie Savage who both said it wasnt a Red card, they played the game as PROFESSIONALS so i respect there views.

What it has done though is set a PRECEDENT for any similar situations.

{Ed001's Note - they aren't referees and both are about as bright as a 2w light bulb that has just blown. Only a total idiot would hold them up as examples of intelligent thought. Credit my arse they were both idiots on the pitch and do not know the laws of the game.}

11 Sep 2017 18:23:43
007, that was hilarious. Frankly holding up a failed manager (could not win a game at Valencia to save his life) and the most average PL player ever as beacons of intelligence and credibility, tells us a lot more about you than it does about them cos well, at least we know who they are and thanks to your referring to their opinion to make a pathetic point, we now know who you are.

11 Sep 2017 06:59:18
Wow that Sevilla game couldn't come quicker, dunno about you lads but I need to get that City loss out of the system. Nothing worse than turning up to work on a cold Monday morning full of United and Chelsea fans going over the result lol.

Believable8 Unbelievable0

11 Sep 2017 08:05:09
They need to be quiet cos Utd got smashed 6-1 after a red card at OT by City while Chelsea had 3 (could have been 5) put past them at home by BURNLEY of all people, this season at the Shed after a red card too.

11 Sep 2017 16:54:46
Hi Bingo Red, don't forget liverpool versus everton, gerrard got sent off we were 1-0 down and won 3-1. Neville og garcia and Kewell.

11 Sep 2017 18:26:41
007, Everton are perennial bottlers and they proved it in 2005 vs us as well as in 2017 when they were a man up and a goal up and still bottled it vs City this season and nearly lost the game and were lucky to get a point in the end. Ed25 is still livid about it and he is a Bluenose. Again, context matters. Class dismissed.

10 Sep 2017 21:08:32
Ed001, I want to see if your in agreance with me as I tend to agree with a lot you post. I think this is the strongest squad we've had in years, and I fully expect us to be in the title race. I actually believe we will win the league this year.

In Klopp we have probably the best manager in the world. I really mean that. And i bet iChelsea or United would love to have him but he wanted us. I'm sure he probably rejected both these clubs because we're the biggest draw in English football.

Onto the keeper and defence. I think our keepers are decent just not top class. Our defence is not as bad a people make out. Moreno is poor, but Matip is class. I have a mate in work who thinks our defence is a joke. Realistically who of uniteds would get in ours? Only Bailly and that's 50/ 50. He's no much better than Lovren. Massively overrated. Lindelof is crap. Jones crap, Valencia crap. Shaw crap. City is the same. Only Spurs are notably better in this area.

In midefielf we're as good as any I think. Hendo, can and couts is as good as Matic and Pogba, both poor, fabregas and Kante is decent, about on par with us. City midfield poor.

On attack we simply have the best in the league par none. Mane, salah and Bobby is better than all the top teams. Only one close would again be city.

Realistically from united you'd only take De Gea (probably World best) , maybe Bailly, and possibly Matic for certain games. So 3 players,

City I'd take Ederson, Aguero, KDB, so again 3

Arsenal probably nobody

Spurs, Loris, Toby A, Ali and maybe Kane.

So in all the top teams we have the majority of best players. I genuinly believe we will win the league because the football under Klopp is sensational 90% of the time. I think we can make last 4 of CL too.

Would you agree with me Ed? Any other posters agree? Love this site btw

KingKlopp.

Believable4 Unbelievable14

{Ed001's Note - no I would not agree. Matip class in what way? He can't defend.}

11 Sep 2017 04:58:47
Based on current form and ability, I'd take all 3 of Bailly, Jones and Lindelof over Matip, Lovren and Klavan.

Lindelof has hardly played so it might not be fair to say though. In any case, our defence is mediocre. There's no way to argue against it. Would any of the top 6 want our 3 senior centrebacks? No.

So much has been said about our 6 clean sheets in our last 8 PL games but I think it's more down to the way Klopp sets us out by attacking/ pressing/ harrying etc.

Our defence is not solid. The clean sheets are nice but when it rains, it pours. 3 goals conceded against Watford, 3 against Hoffenheim (over 2 legs) and 5 against City.

Your arguments about not wanting or needing to take other teams' players is silly. How does that translate to us having a title-winning squad?

On the flipside, how many of our players would get in the squads of the other top teams. Couts and Mane, definitely. Salah and Firmino, maybe. Anyone else? Probably not. So this kind of contradicts what you mentioned.

I think you need to take off those rose-tinted glasses mate. I've always been optimistic and still a huge supporter of Klopp but you're taking things way too far.

11 Sep 2017 05:36:38
Matip is the Cameroonian John Stones.

11 Sep 2017 05:46:00
baily 50/ 50? not one of our CB is anywhere near him mate you are deluded.

11 Sep 2017 05:58:55
I just couldn't agree on any of those. It's not like building blocks, take one from here put it somewhere else and it sticks and stands. Take Lovren out and put him in other team, is it confirmed that he will perform just as bad? Take Bailly or whoever and put them in ours, are they confirmed going to perform just like they did before?

11 Sep 2017 06:45:54
Started drinking early KingKlopp?

11 Sep 2017 06:52:50
If we can be around 1st, 2nd or 3rd leading into January and strengthen that leaky and shaky defense then we'll have a chance at the title but it's a long shot especially with the low availability of players in Jan.

11 Sep 2017 06:42:49
Dembele. Matic and Kante would walk into our midfield.

{Ed025's Note - im not sure about that harry, kante certainly but when keita comes he will negate the need for him, i like dembele i must say but he can go missing at times, matic the same although he has made a great start at united, these are good players of course and would vie for a place in any team mate..

11 Sep 2017 07:23:32
Kingklopp mendy and walker also straight into lfc team. a lot of manutd would the whole back 4 lukaku matial matic . lfc have the worst back 4 out of the top 6 . only 3 average centre backs going into a promiseing season, i think this could be klopps last year as had the chance in 3 windows to approve and he bought klavan what a joke .

11 Sep 2017 08:18:15
Matip, class? πŸ˜‚ above average maybe. Our best centre back is Gomez but he is too young to play every game in a shaky back line. He'd be made into a scapegoat just like Karius was.

11 Sep 2017 08:21:35
King, there is so much wrong with your post that I cannot begin to even disect it fully. I believe in Klopp and believe that our squad has more depth than even the 08/ 09 and th 1/ 14 teams that IMO, should have won the PL. However regarding the midfield and defence. It is tough to say who will walk into what team as teams play different systems. Look at Utd. Their back 4 individually bar Bailly, are not very good. I would take Robbo over Darmian and Lovren over Jones while Valencia is a tryer but that's it. This is why Mou plays a defensive system cos he does not want his back line exposed. They were exposed at Stoke and the could have conceded 5 on the day.

Deano46, City have spent almost 300m on CB's alone and they are still crap at the back w/ o Kompany and even we exposed that hapless bunch last Sat and had Salah taken his chances, we would not be here right now. As for Mendy and Walker, they can't defend and are not asked to do so at City. They attack all the time and that showed last Sat as each time they were required to defend, they were awful. They will be asked to defend if they played here at LFC and for that, they would not walk into our team.

All in all, our defenders are not great and Matip is not doing it right now on current form BUT the system we play requires smart YET aggressive defenders who can work as a unit the way Spurs' defenders do. We simply don't have them which is why Klopp wants all of them gone, per Ed01. However, you can't just replace a whole back line in one window. Even City still have Mangala and Otamendi on their books whereas Pep knows they are crap. That's the reality.

I am in diasgreance with KingKlopp's post 🀝.

So you wouldn't take anyoone from those teams Bingo. Let's hope we win the title coz according to your mythology we have better players than them so our results should be better than them as well!

I am in disagreeance with 95% of the post.

Or Harry, it could mean that none of those players would be any better than what we already have hence, won't improve us. Mou plays a defensive system cos he himself knows his back line bar Bailly, are not good enough when exposed as Stoke nearly put 4 past them. Pep knows his CB's are crap bar Kompany which is why he overwhelms the opposition with so many attacking players (6 out of 10 outfield players) to mitigate against this glaring weakness.

I know you like to think that any other player who does not play for us, is automatically better than our players BUT if you think Danilo, Mangala, Otamendi, Jones, Stones are better CB's than our Joe Gomez then you are deluding yourself. These are not myths. These are proven facts.

I would love a player like Matic or Bailey in my team right now. I don't care who goes to the bench. I would also take the two CB from Spurs.

Deep defensive or high line, Matic is excellent both on the ball and off the ball. One of the best positionally disciplined midfielder in the league.

Alonso played a deep defensive football at Liverpool, would you not take him? He went on to play counter and high line at both Real and Bayern. Best passer in 10 worlds any day!

But Bailey isn't available and there isn't a shelf marked players like . to go and pick them up from. This is not simple to change either by buying new players or by teaching players with short attention spans to focus better.

Good grief, Harry. Do you have difficulty reading? Where in my post did I mention Utd or City's midfield or attack. The thread is about both teams' defences and I specifically spoke of their defences and how I would not take any of their defenders apart from Bailly and Kompany BUT you conveniently ommitted this or just did not read my post correctly. Where did I mention Spurs at all? You must have issues paying attention to other people's comments cos you may be too busy trying to respond to questions or comments NOBODY is asking or making.

You talk about reading the thread properly and not diverting from it. Read the OP. Its about who would you pick from the top 4 clubs, Not who is unwanted in the top 6 or any kind.

Well done ed01 for not completely biting the original posters head off! I was reading it thinking "this guy is lining himself up for a real tongue lashing" but you were quite cordial. You mellowing in your old age?

There is a time to shout out how good we are and how much better we are than rivals. But it's not after a five nil drumming.

Kane has been golden boot last two years and he's a maybe. Lukaku who was second is not mentioned. We have the worst defence out of the top six with the exception of arsenal (MAYBE) I would take Ramsey from arsenal, I've always admired him.

We need a leader at the back. We should move for someone in January and then re ignite interest in vvd next summer. Imo. Not usually keen on January transfers but I think we need a cb in.

I actually think lovren could still come good with the right line leader next to him.

Matip has got away with a lot coz Hendo and Can protect him. He looks good on the ball but as ed says he can't defend and I'm starting to agree.

{Ed001's Note - cheers S91, I am in a good mood I guess.}
