Don't post often but I'm sick of hearing we need this player in Jan tht player in jan! Did nobody notice we just spent over 100 million on Ab 9 New players??
Time to buckle down stick together and get behind the fair ly large squad we have!
Suarezzzzzzzzzz is gone ! Get over it and get behind the team we have now! It's not been a great start but it's early days! All we need is sturidge back fit and a wee bit of luck on the injury front and as long as we stay with the pack to Xmas, then we will gel again and hopefully go on a run again!
Stop being greedy and believe!

This Sturrdge lad might be a fantastic CB, DM, GK and Striker.
Multi-Tasking. Lols.

Agree1 Disagree6

I am sick to my teeth about the people on here shouting that Sturridge will be our saviour.
The pressure that's being put on him is astronomical.
He is a great player but we have no idea if he will be as potent as he was last year, we know he gets injured a lot and now he has the entire planet looking to him as the saviour of our season.
BR and the transfer committee made a mess of the summer transfer window and a HUGE war chest and now all the pressure for Liverpool to succeed has fallen on one player,

Shame on you Brendan Rogers and The Liverpool Transfer Committee for your poor transfer window choices, instead of building we have gone backwards.

Spot on.
Defense poor. Sturridge ll fix it
Midfield no movement. sturridge to return
Goals. sturridge
Mario. sturridge
Markovic.sturridge
Countinho. sturridge

Is this ignorance or something else?

Jonny

I wonder the fans would calm down If Sturridge couldn't deliver in his first match.

Agree0 Disagree0

Harry, I am not inclined to get too upset if we lose or get too high if we win.
Sturridge coming back is not the answer to all of our problems.
It will be massive for us to have him back in the team as he is a fantastic player but our problems run a little deeper than that.
The answer to our problems lies in good coaching and this is what Rodgers is excellent at in my opinion.
After this England game today I think the international games come back in February and that gives Rodgers 3 months solid work with our squad.
I am hoping we see a massive improvement in our squad due to our manager being a good coach.
Any team who has 20pts after 10 games can say they have had a decent start to the season so we need to win the next 3 games which would leave us on 19pts after 10 games played.
I would be well happy if we achieved an average of 2pts or thereabouts per game over the first 10 games with so many new players in our squad.
Obviously its not easy to win 3 games on the bounce but I think we are capable.
Whatever happens I think we will get better over the course of the season.

PS I love this part of the season when the international games are binned and we get midweek premiership fixtures in the build up to an explosion of games over christmas!! Bring it on la!

Agree0 Disagree0

I like that boom and mcgoveb put pretty much the exact same post, the harry haterz give him 6 disagree votes and mcgoveb gets 15 agrees. some people on here are rather pathetic when it comes to voting. I think people see what boom writes and automatically dislike it sometimes.

Dhanda, Kane & polgar all played for the u18's in a 4-0 loss today I'd imagine 3 of the biggest prospects 2 of them around 15 big prospects indeed hopefully play a lot for next seasons u18s although polgar will be playing now fit regularly for the 18s

Mate. Our next match against QPR. I expect us to win it without those two.

Agree0 Disagree0

Unfortunate, but we do have a bigger squad by BR's own admission, so I am hoping there won't be more excuses, especially since Sturridge is back and Allen and Sakho close.

Agree0 Disagree0

But that's why it's a squad game. Need to get on with it.

Agree0 Disagree0

Are we especially injury prone as a club?

Just a thought for discussion?

Agree1 Disagree1

Not overly concerned about it either, but losing Sturridge, Can, Allen, Lovren, and now Markovic to a few international games is a tad annoying.

We can sell naming rights for new stand to the NHS. BUPA or the Nuffield.

Retain Borini to be your back up striker ( Young, Hungry, 23 year old and hard working )

World class Striker, Keeper, LB and DM.

We would have been title favourites.

I know a lot of you have different ideas as to how this window should have gone.
So if we can go back in time what three things would everyone change in the window?

Believable0 Unbelievable1

11 Oct 2014 16:29:53
William Carvalho/Morgan Schneiderlin and Asmir Begovic/Petr Cech would have been fantastic. Balotelli wouldn't have been my first choice but I'm not sure bringing in anyone could have replaced what Suarez offered us (I know Balo isn't necessarily his replacement though). For me I feel the purchases of Lovren and Markovic made poor financial sense but I am not writing them off at all; we must give every new player time. Not sure I could pin point three things.

Agree0 Disagree0

Fun question. For me:

1) Jackson Martinez instead of Markovic and Balotelli. Net change of about £0.

2) Get Ginter before BVB did and keep Agger instead of buying Lovren and Can. Net decrease of maybe £20M or so in transfer fees, probably net even or thereabouts in terms of wages.

3) Get Cech from Chelsea. No idea what Chelsea would want for him, maybe £15M? Obviously wages would go up.

All told, about £5M less spent, albeit a higher wage bill, but I think a great keeper and striker in along with a very promising young CB/CDM.

Agree1 Disagree2

11 Oct 2014 17:12:09
1. Lacazette/Jackson Martinez
2. Peter Cech
3. Ilori

Agree1 Disagree1

I certainly wouldn't have bought balotelli or lambert.

I'd have kept ilori instead of loaning him.

I'd have had a bit more pride and admitted loic didn't come because borini didn't want to leave rather than blame a failed medical. The entere affair was a little embarrassing

Instead of can and Markovic would have bought konoplyanka (£12m) and got alonso in.bout it really think alonso would have sorted out the majority of our problems and then could have used gerrard in an advance role more sparingly. Defense would look miles better with better cover from the midfield, and kono would have been a proper wide player or a great game changer from the bench. Plus rossiter would benefit from having someone like alonso to learn from

Spot on with your view on midfield.

Some still believe we would need more CB in future.

Agree0 Disagree0

Somehow managed to entirely forget about Xabi. Good shout.

Agree0 Disagree0

Hindsight applies here, so:

1. Instead of Balotelli, Lavezzi.
2. Instead of Markovic, kept Ibe.
3. It would have been one of Origi/Lambert/Borini for me. No point buying Origi and not haing in the team. I would have paid extra and got him in for this season. If that worked out, I would have skipped Lambert and sold Borini.

Agree1 Disagree0

For strikers, I agree with the Lambert signing even though i do not rate him, as he offers a Plan B. Instead of Balotelli, Remy would have been the better signing as he has more pace.
For midfield, instead of Markovic and Lallana i would have got in Pedro as he is versatile and experienced, and Gary Medel who was available for a bargain fee. Can i feel will be a very good buy in the long run.
In defense, i would have preferred to see Ilori and Kelly get a chance at CB instead of spending so much on Lovren. Mclaughlin and Wisdom should also have been given a fair crack at RB before bringing in Manquillo. Moreno was a brilliant signing.
In short, Moreno and Ca are the only players i feel add anything new to the squad. The rest are just fillers or a waste of money.

You still haven't got my point mate. Lambert is never an improvement on Borini with whatever stats you bring up.

Borini has at-least 7 years ahead of him. Lambert has 1 year for any club.

If you were desperate for fire power and want to sell Borini ( Who isn't good enough for you ), You should then look for a top class striker. not an upgrade from 7 goals to 9 goals a season.

imo he is not that good and there were far better options out there in the summer

Believable2 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - I used to quite like him, but injuries have affected him badly and he is not as good as he was. Now he is just ok.}

11 Oct 2014 14:32:41
I think it was after that injury in 2011 which really started his depreciation. Btw were we ever in for him?
Ed. One question I see this talk of people wanting specific forwards instead of Mario? Who did you want ed?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I wanted to see us stick with Ibe. I know we went in for Benzema, not sure if we ever went for Higuain though.}

11 Oct 2014 15:07:43

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - not this summer, it was a January, if I remember correctly, but Higuain got injured in the run up to the window, so no move took place.}

11 Oct 2014 15:12:25
Ed01, Seems BR rates Higuain and wanted him with a deal including Lucas going the other direction, Never materialized IMO.
I am not the one to count of his goals and numbers with Real and Napoli.
He is a leader, Has got great skill sets, A feared striker across Europe, Could lead a line, Works really hard, Just the player we wanted IMO.

If there are two players i think would transform our attack especially in Europe it is Huntelaar and Shaquiri but i don't think they will come here, one because he has Arsenal written all over him and the second just doesn't want to play for us, that's my opinion and feeling about them, they could have stepped in right away and made a huge difference.

Believable0 Unbelievable3

And you know this how? Another post about what could/should have happened based solely on opinion which has no basis of fact. Huntelaar is past it and is too slow and old for the PL while Shaquiri blows hot and cold and really doesn`t know what he wants. And even if they were here and didn`t make the diff you claim right away, would you still support them and root for them or would you slag them off and ask for more players like you`re doing now? I guess we`ll never really know, will we? Moral of the story is that we have who we have and saying we could/ should have bought this or that player or done this or tht w/ the Suarez money strikes me as being petty and shows a lack of lucidity. We have who we have they need our support. MOVE ON!

Agree4 Disagree10

It's called discussion, redohio, you should try it some time, you might like it.

Huntelaar is a good striker, wouldn't have minded seeing him at Liverpool. Not convinced about Shaqiri though, personally. Would have liked to have somehow seen Jackson Martinez come instead of Markovic and Balotelli, figure the fees would have been similar.

11 Oct 2014 09:06:50
Still think mario deserves some time to settle, don't think he will ever replace share but looked much better up top with studge as he has the strength and control to hold the ball and link up play, has actually gotten himself into good scoring positions just hasn't been putting them away. But he is at a new team playing and entirely new system, and in fairness looks to be putting more effort in.

Still unsure of Markovic, looks like he has loads of talent but chelsea didn't think he is ready and are probably right. Would have preferred an experience wide forward to come in (Shaqiri, Kono, Yarmolenko, dadic) some one older are more experienced. Or have saved the money give Ibe a chance and spent money on a better keeper (begovic would be my first choice though apparently we tried).

Though someone suggested not buying mario and Markovic and just buying Martinez. Personally think if we were going to instead spend 30-40m on a striker the obvious choice is higuan! Higuan, Sturridge up top with sterling Lallana hendo and stevie in the midfield. would have a fast attacking team with goals in it

Agree2 Disagree0

I agree Mario needs time.
Has no-one else noticed the difference in pace between Serie A and the premier league?
I'm giving Mario and Lazar until after Christmas until I lay into them.

I think his point guys was that it doesn't do anybody any good to say 'he would have been amazing' etc etc.
If we hadn't signed Markovic, he'd be the one puzzle piece we needed. If we hadn't signed Mario, it'd be him.

Nobody knows. So while discussion is fine, passing off opinion as fact is stupid when it's just conjecture.

I don't know and you don't know how Huntelaar and Shaqiri would have done, so it's pretty childish to suggest they would have 'totally transformed us this season'.

Here comes Harry 'secret agent Scousser' with his insider knowledge of exactly what players cost.
Pity we got Lambert instead of Huntelaar then Harry?
Transfer fee, wages, signing on fee etc. They would not have cost the same Harry. 1 is an internationally recognised striker, the others a 32 year old liverpool fan who wasn't going to start every game even if he stayed at Soton.

Hillarious Mate, You buy a 32 year old player to come off the bench and allow a 24 year old young one to Sunderland or Milan.
Absolute Masterstroke from TC and BR.

Now Let me clear my view.

Keep hold of Borini for whatever reason you bought Lambert. Don't go near Mario, Buy a world class striker spending from what you got it from Suarez sale.

Save X mill on Lambert + Mario.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 11:06:23
And your view of a world class striker is higuain? Higuain? World class? And huntelaar > Lambert? I guess we have to agree to disagree harry

Agree0 Disagree0

In my opinion, Higuain would be as much a risk as Mario but would have cost double.
Huntelaar vs Lambert = much of a muchness. Huntelaar would not have been content with a sub role, Lambert would bite your arm off to play for LFC.

All opinion, as valid or as mental as anyone else's.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 12:03:08
Personally liked Lambert as a signing tbh cheap back up who will work hard for the club with loads of experience.

Agree that can't say any player would definitely succeeded and changed our season but having got into CL is vital we retain it. Before the summer our attack needed a WF, we lost Saurez so needes a WF and FW. Fair enough can't say for sure certain players definitely performed but the risk involved should reflect the investment and we spend 36m on two high risk players.

Would have preferred to spend all of it on a top forward and give ibe a chance, you think if spent that on higuan who wouldn't have a league goal or two by now? Or far enough mario is a decent risk but for 20m we bought a young unproved winger who needs time settle/develop. Could have spend less money on an experienced and matured winger who would could hit the ground running.

Agree0 Disagree0

Agreed Ken. I think Mario will be fine when Studger is back as will the rest of the team. I think all players need at least a season before we can properly assess them. You just want to see improvements every time they play.

So many different tactics and formations etc and pace of the game for them to adapt to. They are pros I know but you will not see the best of this team until November. If we can stay injury free expect a strong finish again.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 12:48:58

Why bring Borini into it? What's he got to do with anything?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 12:49:05
You have an opinion on Mario. Good. But please give the lad a chance. He is not as good as Suarez. But does anyone remember how wasteful Suarez was in his first 10-15 games? Yes he is missed sitters. Which striker hasn't?

Comparing Lambert and Huntelaar is just silly. Is everyone so naive to think that Huntelaar would be content with the amount of time Lambert's getting.
Borini is not a prolific goal scorer. I suspect he will move on shortly.

Again to the point of new signings settling in I said it earlier and will say it again how do you know Martinez/Higuain/Other expensive strikers would have come immediately and settled in and banged in 20+ a season?

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 12:54:15
Harry, if we'd bought Higuian instead of Ballotelli and he was having similar problems to Mario now, you would be the first one to chastise BR, call Higuian a waste of money and bitch that we didn't get Mario.
Hindsight is great, when you've actually got it mate.

Agree1 Disagree0

RDL, I enjoy discussion. I don`t comment that much about who we should/could have bought because it DOESN`T matter after the fact. Stick w/ what you have and move on. I deal with what IS instead of what COULD/SHOULD/MIGHT have been. Try that sometime, the world would b much clearer to you as well.

Buying players on quiet a bit of emotions, ain't you?.

Agreed on Huntelaar not willing to sit on the bench. But Y do we need to buy someone to sit on the bench rather play as much as possible?

Huntelaar would have scored those vital goals in the past 6 games and We would have been close to top 3 spot by now.

How many goals has our all forward line scored all put together?.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Huntelaar is not that good Harry. He would have struggled badly with the pace of the Prem, he is a bit on the slow side in Germany, which is much slower. No thanks.}

Mate, Higuain is a brilliant striker. There is absolutely no question on it.

Huntelaar is a decent striker, A goal poacher, A brilliant finisher, Much like Nistelroy. There is always goals in him.

Only Liverpool fans would claim Lambert is better striker than Huntelaar. Seems the whole world is clueless.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - or perhaps they have seen how average Huntelaar actually is? Sorry Harry but it is not clueless to think Lambert is better in the Prem. He is not playing well for us, but that doesn't mean he isn't a good player.}

Redohio- i have this OPINION after watching football and being a red supporter for over 55 years mate! probably longer than you have been born, i didn't pick the names out of a hat y'know, KVH has scored against top clubs for club and country and i wished we had bought him years ago, even now he could do a great job for us, who would i rather have Lambert or Huntelaar. although i love Lambert's love for the club i would have KVH, sorry if that ruffles the feathers mate, and Shaquiri is a player that makes things happen and gives 100% and yes i would have him right away too he is a winner, they both are! i don't like the look of them as people but so what! i posted this as an OPINION, not for some self righteous know all telling me how i should support my team, i'm not a sheep and i do have my own views that more often than not have to defend because i don't conform to people like you, if you don't agree with my opinion i suggest you use the button and keep your views to yourself, i don't know who you think you are! can i have my head back now?

Fair enough. I don't wanna start another argument over this. let's see end of the season.

Agree0 Disagree0

Huntelaar has played for many big teams and failed as well. let's see how the team plays when sturridge is back. we don't want to be dependent on 1 player, yes, bt when the team isn't playing well we probably need him to get everyone up and find some form.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Oct 2014 13:49:14
Harry don't do that.
This thread has been brilliant till now some really great replies
A possible contender for thread of the month

Agree0 Disagree0

Of course it doesn't matter, redohio, none of us have a time machine or ability to change anything even if we did, it's just a bit of discussion which hurts no one so long as it doesn't get abusive. Obviously we have the team we have and we support them, but second guessing club decisions via our armchairs is an action for supporters as old as football.

That said, I expect Balotelli will look better next to Sturridge, as most have said. We do have a good, young, quite capable group and over time, if we can hold on to them, that will probably pay back dividends. Not going to stop me or others speculating on how perhaps things could be better though, nor should it.

Agree1 Disagree0

Good post, RDL. I`m just not into seond guessing things after the fact because it makes no diff. You can only hope people do their homework before pulling the trigger on transfers and so on. But we are in agreement here. Much respect, bro!

You're spot on that it makes no difference, so I can see where you're coming from there. We can speculate, opinionate, gesticulate, and generally talk nonsense all day but it does matter very little. Still fun though! :-)
