Credit should be given to Ed2 because he or she said a long time ago that suarez would use the whole media accusation as a smokescreen to leave the club. I am a little surprised it played out this way to be honest, he seemed really attached to the club and I expected him to stay another year or two. I know what he did was wrong and agree that the "right" thing would be to get rid of him. This is the more mature approach and honestly should be done, even if the quality of the team suffers, for the sake of the club's name. However, there's a big part of me that wants to keep him because I know how important he is and believe he can get even better. It's a really tough decision and although Rodgers did do well with Sturridge and Coutinho, these dealings have not been enough to restore my faith in the scouting team. I like aspas and toure, both unspectacular but intelligent signings. I don't see us spending smartly with big money (predicting 25 mil on Mickey turining out to be a flop). wish I had more faith

I would just like let you know and I'm sure some of you are already aware but there is a guy on twitter called . I know people ridicule twitter but this guy definately does receive information. To be fair though he has been a million miles off the mark but sometimes he can be ridiculously accurate. Accurate in that you can't make up! I've followed him for over a year. I just thought I'd let as I see one of the editors tweeted him so I would like to ask the eds opinion of him? {Ed030's Note - You have not left his name mate. }

Frick Suarez, I'm totally sick of him, yes he's a good player but he's not God, who the hell does he think he is? Someone mentioned on this page a good while ago about how many attacks break down directly because of Suarez trying to do too much and ignoring his team mates who were better placed than he and the figure was amazing. I have to agree that while enjoying the goals he scored I myself can remember becoming very frustrated in a lot of games at the amount of possession he gave away. The point is he's good but he's not as good as people think he is, give me Coutinho any day of the week (the new Beardsley), so if as is likely that he is sold then so what? We will replace him with more of a team player and for the money we'll have to reinvest it will be somebody who'll be just as skillfull.

Can someone help me with something please. I remember after FSG took us over they also bought Roma, now I take it they used a different name but how do they get away with it, do they use 2 seperate companys? {Ed030's Note - I did not know they bought Roma mate are you sure about that. }

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I think one of the many investors in FSG own Roma, not Werner, Henry, or FSG.

Agree0 Disagree0

They didn't buy roma, one of NESV investors became the principal investor in roma (Tom DiBenedetto) and club president. One person or consortium would not be allowed controlling stake in two clubs under FIFA rules as it creates a conflict of interest.

Agree0 Disagree0

Some shareholder in FSG owns Roma, or at least the majority of it, I think.

All reports seem to suggest that Suarez will be leaving this summer and if its true then it's how we replace him is what's important. Over the years United have lost and sold big players, yet they still consistently win or compete for the major trophies. In Liverpools hay days they did likewise. When we sold Keegan he was replaced by the legend that is Kenny who didn't do a bad job, and when his best days were behind him he brought in Beardsley who was immense beside aldridge and rush. Rush himself was replaced by aldridge and his record speaks for itself. People still lament Torres exit but it paved the way for Suarez impact. Good managers and scouting staff can replace anyone, maybe they won't have the same brillance but they can bring in players to do a job to keep you at the top. I firmly believe that BR has us on the right track and this time next year we'll be eagerly awaiting season 2014/15 and CL football again. MonaghanRed

Mcb, on a break so I will quickly reply to your post last night. Players to come in is a tough one until we know what's happening with suarez. As I said the other day, I would like to see the armenian lad come in and maybe the greek CB, although if it where possible which it probably isnt, hummels. And the main one I would love to see but won't happen is modric, he would be the jewel in the crown of our midfield if it could be done and would ease the impact of LS going. Forward I would go for would be tevez but again that's doubtful in the extreme.

I really can't see Suarez moving to Real! Liverpool want in excess of 50m for him and it is highly unlikely they will pay that. In my opinion he will move to Bayern or an outside chance of PSG. Juventus couldn't afford his right foot plus I doubt he would interested going there. I still wouldn't be surprised to see City or Chelsea break the bank for him but he would most likely turn them down.

Ed, over the past year I have watched the Dutch League quite a lot, the football of Ajax, PSV etc is of a high quality. The Eredivisie is full of such great prospects and players like Bergkamp, Kuyt and Suarez have shown that they can be successful, obviously your Babels are there as well.

I'm asking your footballing opinion of these players, not chance of signing but your opinion:
Strootman; I personally think he is tactically good and has a great passing range but may lack the pace to play in the league.
De Vrij; he is a solid player in my opinion but maybe in his youth is capable of bizarre decisions.
Stefano Denswil; this guy is extremely talented, to use an Americanism, he has huge upside but isn't he a risk/reward player.
Bony; His goal scoring record is similar to that of Suarez, RVP and quality players, against Eredivisie defences he looks quick and looking at his intangibles he is a beast, would you agree he is the best suited to the premier league?
Eriksen; He is talented, that ability to unlock defences but I have concerns, he goes missing from games. His attitude of trying to get a payday etc is also got to be an issue.
Wijnaldem; This guy has it all in my opinion, fast, skilful and a potent finisher and has the build required to succeed outside of Holland.

Just wondering your opinion and if you would agree with my opinion?

Thanks, {Ed052's Note - None of those will sign. Strootman, Bony and Eriksen are fabulous players. Wijnaldem hasnt kicked on unfortunately. De Vrij is also a good player, and I feel next season will be important for him}

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Wow just seen Armenia beat Denmark 4-0 was there too watch Eriksen and Mikhythan and Mikhythan won the battle by miles, what a player fast, skillful, great vision and an eye for goal.

He got one assist and one goal which he scored by running through on the rightside drifting in with stepovers going past 1 defender then another, he the stopped shimmed and went left and shot a powerfull left footed shot in the left top corner of the goal.

Apparently were close to agreeing a fee of 22 milliom for this guy according to one of the commentators.

He as a player reminds me of a smaller figo if him and coutinho are our attacking midfielders, then teams are in for a hard time.

hopefully few more additions but so far some great eye for talent frm B R and the scouts.

thanks Eds keep up the great work.

I disagree london mate, owners haven't spent a lot in transfer market, with their own pockets,

Kenny spent 100M
Toress 50m
Raul 11M
Babel 7m
Ngong 4M
Some youngsters 4m
Total---76M

Owners contribution from their pockets=24M

Rodgers spent 65M

Adam-6m
Aqualini-3
Kuyt-2M
Others for free

Owners contribution from their own pockets-54M

In 3. 5-4 years they have spent 74M net spend which averages a season 18-21M,

Now is that enough for a club who needed massive rebuilding to return back where they belong, especially some of their rivals without any wage restriction spending 250-300m net spend in 4 years which makes their averages 5 times bigger then Liverpool, spending all that money in already a world class team compare to Liverpool.

Liverpool deserve where they are, its going to be impossible for Liverpool to compete with big boys unless arsenal implode, because they are only the team who look weak compare to chelsea who again will spend 100M+ with Mourinho, city again will spend huge and have financial power to keep them up. And blow anyone, united have financial powers and experience throught of their hearichy, arsenal have financial power and experience, but financial power is just for show, if they use like their chairman say then Liverpool have no chance for few years unless Liverpool owners start competing financially with Liverpool rivals. {Ed030's Note - Since when has £54 million not been a lot of money and don't forget the club is making a loss each year. }

Agree0 Disagree0

12 Jun 2013 01:28:06
Ed30 fair enough 54m is a lot of money, but is that enough to compete with chelseas and citys and uniteds considering some of them are head and shoulders above Liverpool interms of quality and still spend that amount of money in 1-2 players, where Liverpool spend that amount in 6-7 players, now can you see the difference 6-7 players and 1-2 world class players and spend more then triple of Liverpool in already world class team, mate no dig at owners but is it enough in this day and age to compete with money bags, because losses are not going to stop until lfc achieve champions league, will lfc achieve champions league next season considering our rivals are already 6 steps futher then us interms of their squad quality and again will spend massively almost trice of what will spend without selling their best players but injecting more world class players to their already class team, and remember Liverpool couldn't even achieve europa that's how poor Liverpool have been, again ed30 the ball is in your court is that enough for Liverpool? But be honest mate

Mate your completely ignoring the cost of running a club without champions league. Compare that to other clubs we have a higher net spend

Question for ed002, just interested to know a bit of background as to how sponsorship / kit deals tend to work in general? Would a team such as Liverpool with I would guess a far greater worldwide fan base but alas no regular champions league football at present be able to negotiate better deals than teams such as Chelsea, Manchester city and arsenal who have smaller worldwide fan bases but can currently guarantee regular champions league football? de neen {Ed002's Note - They will all go for the best deal they can. Liverpool have a manufacturers deal with Warrior that is a bit of a loss leader. The club get the deal with teh manufacturer and they get what the fans spend.}

Chelsea's fan base is quite large, at least here in America (much larger than Liverpool's anyway in my experience). Don't know about elsewhere though.

Is anyone watching the Denmark Vs Armenia game? I remember a few posters saying they were gunner watch it because Mkhitaryan was playing. Well I'm watching it now and I've got to say i'm impressed! just scored a really good goal aswell and also got an assist. He flipped it over the full backs head and beat him for pace, before cutting inside a couple of times and smashing a low left foot drive into the bottom corner. If we manage to buy him, I have no doubt he would be a quality piece of business.

General theme over last month or so has sunk beneath the dignity of what I'd expect LFC fans to maintain. Yes certain posters have provocative opinions but. to responses seem very emotive. which skews opinion

"Anger diminishes our power to distinguish right from wrong, and this ability is one of the highest human attributes. If it is lost, we are lost. Sometimes it is necessary to respond strongly, but this can be done without anger. Anger is not necessary. It has no value" - Dalai Lama

Finch Farm was owned by a private company who have sold it to the City Council. Everton F. Hi Clee Red. May be a bit biased because I am a Saints fan, but we do know a little about LBs-chap called Bale comes to mind (following on from Bridge. )
Our coaches reckon Shaw will be better than Bale, and we are now seeing figures of £85m being spoken about for Bale. Apart from it being very unlikely Shaw will go anywhere this summer, Saints would certainly not let him go for £12m. I'm not disagreeing with Ed. , just stating what he is worth to Saints rather than what another side may think he is worth. (We couldn't even replace him with Baines for that!)

STAT ATTACK
------------------------------------------
I've looked at forwards, I've looked at midfielders (and surprised myself by finding out that Gerrard was still our most productive player before the Jan transfer window), and I've looked at Keepers. Today I thought I'd look and see who our best defenders are.

Player--Games-Tackles (PG)-Interception (PG)-Blocks
Johnson-36-------90 (2. 5)-----56 (1. 6)-------9
Enrique--29-------72 (2. 5)-----35 (1. 2)-------3
Agger----35-------35 (1. 0)-----63 (1. 8)------16
Skrtle----25------34 (1. 4)------39 (1. 6)------25

Player---Passes---completed---%-------ELDG
Agger---1744-----1547--------88. 7------0
Skrtle---1155-----1045--------90. 5------3
Johnson-1740-----1431--------82. 2------0
Enrique--1304-----1000--------76. 7------1

*ELDG - Errors leading directly to goals.
*I didn't include Carra since its irrelevant due to his retiring.

Based on the figures it would appear our wingbacks are actually doing pretty well. 2. 5 successful tackles each per game is pretty good for two players who are often accused of being crap at the back. Skrtle's numbers are also respectable and certainly comparable to Agger, what suprised me the most was how high his completed passes were by comparison to Agger, since he is the 'ball playing defender' they also both had the same average amount of key passes per game (0. 3). The only area where Skrtle falls down is in his mistakes, leading to goals on 3 occasions.

Just for fun as well here's Lucas' figures just in case anybody still doubts his worth to the team.

Player--Games-Tackles (PG)-Interception (PG)--Block
Lucas-----26-------123 (4. 7)------64 (2. 5)------9
Gundogan-28-------64 (2. 3)-------63 (2. 3)------0
Martinez--27-------62 (2. 3)-------52 (1. 9)-------3
Busquets--31------93 (3. 0)--------52 (1. 7)------8

Player---Games--Passes--Completed--%--Key Passes
Lucas------26-----1528----1339-----87. 6---0. 6
Gundogan--28-----1641----1415-----86. 2---0. 7
Martinez---27-----1150----1008-----87. 7---0. 4
Busquets--31------2335----2153-----92. 2---0. 3

So Lucas makes more successful tackles per game than all of europes best, he makes more successful interceptions than europes best, more blocked shots, with a comparable pass percentage and more key passes than all but one. And some people want to trade him in? Madness. He led the premier league in defensive statistics last season and only 2 players from espanyol led him in europe.

Hope it's been interesting and informative, comments are always appreciated.

I did used to post under the name Rewflo once upon a time. Thanks for the comments everyone. I'll keep posting as long as people enjoy reading.

And for the unnamed poster that amount of average blocked shots per game is very healthy indeed, it placed him at 6th in the league for blocked shots on goal attempts.

Agree0 Disagree0

I wondered where Rewflow went. Interesting stats that mate. I don't know if you saw the stats article on the LFC website the other day, but the stand out one for me was the amount of goals scored with the right foot compared to the left. BR does play right footed players on the left and left on the right quite a bit, and I expect this to be looked at to get a bit more balance up front. Is Aspas a left footer who plays on the right side?

Suarez is a world class player, but also a world class troublemaker (i mean it's not all footballers that can get into a war of words with the British PM). I would personally like to see him stay but we can agree that there will also be a lot lot of positives from him leaving. We'll have a heafty warchest and we won't be arguing all the time about him.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I personally think our pm should concentrate on the conduct of his cabinet ministers rather than the conduct of a footballer.

Didn't hear him come out and criticise lance Armstrong for been a drugs cheat or giggs, cole or terry for there antics off field.

I think Luis is a fool for his behaviour but can also see his point about it been blown out of proportion and i'd probably feel a little victimised if even the pm was having a dig.

Doesn't excuse Suarez's part in any of it or his behaviour now but not sure I would want to hang around for more of the same.

Fester

Agree0 Disagree0

I think some folk need to put their big boy pants on. Much as I love Suarez and what he brings on the pitch he is obviously working for a move.

Suarez is obviously trying to turn himself into a hot potato so that his price can be negotiated down from around 40mil to his next club can afford.
History is repeating itself. Suarez got himself a ban for biting an opponent at Ajax. The club did not punish him, they merely did not defend the indefendable. Then guess what Ajax were accused of not supporting him! ( sound familliar )
Anyway this obviously made life easier for the club to sell the hot potato he had become and probably meant we saved a few quid signing him.

I do not need to point out the similarities to the current situation do I?

I think he is truly among the best in the world at present but if he had said ' I wish to leave to play champions league ' or ' I would like to win something major '. I like many would understand and wish him well.

Anyhow to all the numpties who somehow believe that the club or BR are to blame for him leaving or that we should moan about Terry or Defoe receiving lesser punishments should get real.
Suarez is a great but not a Liverpool legend as he simply does not love this club or its fans. He is a professional, who is ambitious and has brought us many special moments but has also used us as a stepping stone to a bigger club.

This is just my view and I expect people will disagree but I believe the club has lost respect due to his incidents and if we continue to excuse any behavior just because he score then we are not the club that sets the standard, we are just another ordinary club.

Wow Suarez has really divided opinion on here of late. I love the guy for his footballing ability but I am questioning his premeditated actions recently. If he wants to go then let him and hope we get a fair price for him. I employ 180 people and have lost some very good ones over the years that have wanted to "further their career". It would be futile to stand in their way and I send them off with my best wishes. Has my business suffered because of this? NO! Is it a pain in the ass to find replacements? YES.

I remember FSG stating their desire to buy young up and coming talent to fit their business model which can only mean one thing, to make a profit. Yes the timing stinks and I wish we had one more year of him but I think it is inevitable that he would move on at some stage so let's try and double our money within two years before he implodes and drops in value.

I hope Brendan and his scouting team can continue to unearth gems (Coutinho). I don't want us to become a feeder club but we may have to come to terms with this until we do achieve CL and can afford the "star players" again. Am I resigning myself to mediocrity or second best? NO, just trying to be realistic for the next few years. Is BR going to get it wrong occasionally? probably but I feel he is doing a great job considering and I do truly believe we will see the benefits in the not too distant future.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I am sure Mkhitaryan will come regardless of Suarez leaving, as I think Downing, Carroll, Skrtel and Shelvey will bring in £40m+ alone.

I would think that should Suarez, I love the thought of Lamela, however I think we shall move for Muriel, as:

1) We have young wingers in Sterling and Ibe to come through but not many Strikers.
2)He is below 25
3) Tehcincally impeccable
4) Clincal
5) Fast as bolt - even with the ball
6) Has real potential to be both as exciting and as effective as Suarez. nearly from the off
7) Has been heavily scouted by Liverpool
8) Is probably attainable for under £20m
9) Has no issues with work permit or mixed ownership.
10) Could be worth £50m in 2 years time.

Nope mate that's not the real fact, or your to young to know,

Try to find gross and net spend then you will see the big difference, and we deserve where we are,

teams you have listed with Liverpool, have always spent or add class players without needing to sell their best players like Liverpool, who have never spent big from their own pockets without selling their big assets to fund for other big assets,

Liverpool net spend is very, very small compare to clubs which you have listed in that list, eg when Liverpool spends 30-40M it means they are replacing a world class player who is funding for another one compare to other teams who are not replacing their world class players but are bringing more world class players with keeping their world class players insted of selling them, that makes a huge difference,

Just try to find gross and net spend with teams you have listed then everything will be clear for you, and you will note that we deserve where we are.

If Liverpool spends 500m then 400-450m has come from sales which doesn't make any difference because you again need to replace them where if city or chelsea spends 500M then only 50-60M have come from sales which makes huge difference interms of quality, I just hope you understand what I'm trying to say!

I see disney the plonker is on our site all day spouting tht aspas is our replacement for saurez well so wot if he is, u can't just replace a saurez with one player as he is one of a kind so you may have to replace his attributes in different ways, also disney when you lot sold ronaldo was he not replaced with valencia now don't get me wrong but not exactly a like for like replacement so just stick to worrying who gollom signs for you and be prepared to watch exciting hoofball next season you muppet.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I would agree with that. I am not saying the squad will not be strengthened in other areas with the proceeds of Suarez' sale or that Suarez needs to be replaced with an equally talented signing, I am merely stating the obvious that Aspas is Suarez' replacement.

I think the reason Liverpool fans are getting so emotional is because at the end of the tunnel, you can only see more tunnel. You are about to sell the only decent player you had and after finishing SEVENTH with Suarez, many are wondering where you will finish without Suarez.

I think you will finish 10th and BR will be given his P45.

Agree0 Disagree0

Manchester United, Premier League Champions 2013.

Manchester United U21's, U21's Premier League Champions 2013.

I am not concerned about our signings. The truth of the matter is we will have a stronger squad next season and a better first XI. Liverpool will have a poorer squad and first XI next season. The gap is widening lads. I am not convinced Cesc will arrive, but it shows our ambition compare to yours. Cesc/Thiago and you want Alfredo or whatever he's called. We want Lewandowski, you buy Aspas.

OK. Want to get this whole Suarez situation off my chest. Sorry I know its been done to death but would like to give my two cents :-).

Luis Suarez is a remarkable player we all know and we have been lucky to see him play at our club while he has. I would actually hope that he leaves sooner rather then later. OK we loose our best, but we can move forward. I think people are too hung up on loosing a great player and not realising that we are loosing a noose from our neck. Granted Suarez scored a lot of goals but he has dragged our club through the dirt. He has been a person on the pitch and a whore off the pitch talking about loving to play here there and anywhere (bit like Robbie Keane played for all his boy hood clubs you know :-)). Why would you want this rap sheet associated with our club:

February 2007

- Makes international debut for Uruguay against Colombia but is sent off late in the game after receiving a second caution for dissent.

November 2007

- Having joined Ajax from Uruguayan club Nacional, he is suspended after a half-time changing room row with team-mate Albert Luque.

July 2010

- Sent off in Uruguay's World Cup quarter-final with Ghana for preventing Ghana from scoring a last-minute goal by handling the ball on the line. Enthusiastically celebrates Asamoah Gyan's subsequent penalty miss from the sidelines before Uruguay go through to the semi-finals on penalties.

November 2010

- Given a seven-game suspension by the Dutch Football Association and fined by Ajax for biting PSV Eindhoven's Otman Bakkal on the shoulder during a league match.

October 2011

- Now at Liverpool, he causes controversy with a dive that results in a red card for Everton's Jack Rodwell in the Merseyside derby.

- Accused of racially abusing Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra during a Premier League match, for which he later receives an eight-match ban and a £40,000 ($64,000, 48,000 euros) fine.

December 2011

- Handed a further one-match ban after making an offensive hand gesture towards Fulham supporters.

February 2012

- Sparks controversy again after refusing to shake Evra's hand as United and Liverpool line-up prior to kick-off in a game at Old Trafford.

October 2012

- Celebrates a goal against Everton with a comedy dive in front of Toffees manager David Moyes, who had claimed "divers" like Suarez were turning people away from the game.

January 2013

- Handles the ball prior to scoring the winning goal in Liverpool's 2-1 victory at non-league Mansfield Town in the FA Cup third round. (don't agree that was intentional but grabbed the headlines. )

- Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers warns Suarez could face punishment from the club after admitting he dived to try to win a penalty against Stoke.

On 21 April 2013, in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea in a Premier League game at Anfield he appeared to bite opposing player Branislav Ivanović. It was not noticed by the officials, and Suarez scored an equaliser in injury time. This was the second incident of its kind involving Suarez. He was charged with violent conduct by the FA and fined an undisclosed sum by his club.

Take into account the numerous times in the media he has made advances to clubs since last summer. I reckon anything over 40m is great business for us. Take into account that we could maybe be getting 15m for Carroll and possible 10m for Skrtel plus what ever the owners cough up and that's a very big budget. Suarez is no Liverpool legend it takes more then two years to earn that status, ask Carragher or Gerrard. The future is bright and Liverpool will surprise a lot throughout the summer and the season that lies ahead.

Thanks.

BTW I did get him on the back of my shirt lol not the new one ;-).

ed002 I've resigned myself to losing suarez its a case of when not if, but does this mean when suarez is sold the money from him won't be put back into the team or a replacment bought for him?
thanks {Ed002's Note - If Liverpool are buying the likes of Toure, Aspas, maybe Mkhitaryan, maybe a Tello or Alberto, an Ince or similar, a centre back or two, perhaps a goalkeeper and a youngster or two, where do you think that money comes from?}

bigW

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Toure - Free
Aspas - £7. 8M
Mkitaryan - £20M
Alberto - £5M
Papa - £18M
Ilori - £4M
Mignolet - £8M (If Reina leaves)

These are the players that we are probably going to get and how much they would probably cost so the total expense is about £62. 8M. Suarez will likely go around for £45M and Carroll for £15m and with players such as Skrtel, Coates, Shelvey, Spearing, Reina possibly leaving then that should at least cover the expense so what about the £20-25M put in by the owners (as a few ed's have said)?

Agree0 Disagree0

Don't agree eds. add all them up then you get 50odd million. But if we get two defenders then at least one on our books will go and if we get a goalie then it will be replaced by Reina so that reduces the transfer budget. We would have got them players suarez our or not.

hi eds, with suarez looking certain to leave and us due to get around the 50 mill mark for him (any less we would be mugs). who do you think we could potentially get in to replace him? going to be a real tough job : (

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I disagree, any less. why would we be mugs? I think if any team paid over 45m it'd make them mugs, with Suarez's history. If I was for another team I wouldn't want him playing for us, noway on this earth will we get 50m for him, it simply won't happen!

br asked carra to play on 1 more season carra did not feel like it and toure is his replacement. aspas will come in and replace assaidi in the squad. quates and skrtl will be replaced with a starter and a young defender. we need a left back so we don't play johnsen there when enrique is injured or playing bad. if shelvey were to leave we will bring in another midfielder. we have sterling ibe no need for another winger. if suarez would leave it will change the plans the club had, there will be more funds available. I think the club are in a good situation regarding suarez, he is a 40/50mil player and has 4 years left on his contract, suarez will still be a 40 mil player next season if he stays 1 more year. + suarez has a problem only a few clubs can pay that kind of money in europe and what will he do when monaco comes in for him? he will not be playing cl there eather. maybe madrid don't want to spend that kind of money on him. barca don't need him and bayern neither. I would sell suarez and strenghten the squad, why hang on to a player that wants to leave. the last 12 matches we played some good football, I have posed this before I really believe if we had a worldclass defender next to agger and a right winger that makes goals we would have got cl this season. arsenal and tottenham are not better than us. and I was surprised when ayre said that cl next season is not a priority, get a worldclass cb 1 worldclass midf and a worldclass right winger that scores. malta

Fact of the matter is FSG have come in with the aim of taking us back to the top with along with restoring our financial stability, players like Sturridge and Coutiniho fit into that along with BR's philosophy, it's all part of the learning curve for FSG, they've made mistakes with the likes of Carroll, Downing and Henderon (despite his improvements), so now its understandable they're a little reluctant to spend, fact of the matter is for a decent £35-50m striker we need europe otherwise we won't atract anyone worth that kind of money without having to drastically overspend on wages, the club knows this and are buying players at a decent price who will move us up the table, next year we want to be knocking on the door for europe at least if not getting in amongst them depending on how much Arsenal/Spurs strengthen compared to our marginal schedule gain from no european football, that will only happen if we spend wisely and keep Suarez

Just when I thought we were making progress towards next season, Reina's agent has said he is staying.

If true, this is the worst possible news.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Rubbish.

At a point where we are undergoing change with regard to senior players moving on (Carragher, Skrtel and Suarez), Reina is very important to the squad.

Of course, he remains an excellent keeper and I saw an improvement in form the second half of last season, which I hope continues into the future, at LFC.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

We should still buy Mignolet!

Agree0 Disagree0

Valdes staying an extra year at Barca delayed his plans. He will go next year I guess.

If it was up to me I would sell him now rather than have another Real/Barca drama again next year.

Mignolet is not that good

Keep pepe for 1 more season at least

Basy

Agree0 Disagree0

While my opinions on Reina are well noted, I have to agree with The real AG here, having some stability is important when so many players are likely to be leaving and arriving. I think a better time to sell would be next year, if his performances don't pick up.

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jun 2013 21:31:50
@ The real AG
I completely agree I think Reina clearly picked up and regained form the second half of the season. If he continues then we, once again, have one of the best keepers around at our disposal.

I wouldn't be overly keen on spending circa 8m on backup (would we sign Mignolet now just to spend a year teaching him how to kick?). Mignolet has notions of the world cup too so he wouldn't come as backup (Courtois obv Belgium's No 1 but still).

Maybe Reina needs pressure from a better No 2 or maybe he just lost interest in the "projects" he kept getting promised and now he might finally be realising we're actually beginning to come good again. We can't but speculate so if I see a good No 2 being signed then I'll think ya BR think's Reina needs competition.

If we do manage another decent CB signing and coates/skrytle leave, do you think we would need a 4th CB or would kelly be moved to CB and Wisdom promoted to cover Johnson at RB?

Also who would you see covering LB? A new signing or Robinson?

Thank you {Ed030's Note - I think Kelly will slot in either Position when needed mate. }

Agree0 Disagree0

Kopgray, if you look at it without the 'Liverpool hope goggles' on, you will see that Aspas is just a much poorer version of Suarez. The editor has also said that Aspas is a replacement for Suarez. It might not be what Liverpool fans want to hear, but it is what it is. I am not saying another cheap striker will not be signed, just that Aspas is the direct replacement for Suarez.

Disney!

Agree0 Disagree0

The Editor (Ed002) suggests a comment was made by one of his agents that Aspas was Suarez's replacement. Then Aspas says he hopes players like Suarez, Coutinho etc will help him settle. That rather sounds like he hopes to play with Suarez.

While Suarez will definitely leave, the inquiry of Benteke and serious interest in Mickey shows otherwise.

"Davey should we all wrap our arms round him and say thanks for takin the piss out this club again?"

No, just sign-off with a name so I can refer back and see your level of support throughout the numerous Suarez incidents.

Many of us did you see as we're supporters, but we're not f*****g soft.

This is the problem, this is not about what Suarez has done for many of you, it's the fact that he has asked to leave and as a consequence the fickle-fans arise like turds out of a bog.

Some people have short memories.

I don't agree with none of his actions, but I'm certainly not going down the hypocrite route from defending a player to the hilt (regardless of me agreeing or not) to "hating him" for requesting to leave.

Get my point?

This is merely a generalisation of today's football fan because I did not hear one (yes ONE) person calling-for Suarez to leave after all of the problems he's had - it's simply a realisation that he now officially wants to leave, and you all crawl out of the woodwork like the bitter ones do when their bird leaves them.

Is there definitive confirmation that the club did not want to sell him?

When we paid out that load of cash for Downing was it on the back of him having an awesome season for Villa? Did he win their player of the season award?

Am I right in thinking he played in the middle of midfield that season? Did they play 4-3-3 with Downing playing attacking left central? Maybe I'm imagining this. But if correct why not have him back in there as cover if nothing else?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

He just lacks that quality good worker but nothing special

Agree0 Disagree0

He played right midfield and kept cutting in onto his left foot. He did have a great season (& was their player of the year), I was well excited at him coming but ya it hasn't worked out he appeared to have the ability so either lost form big time or doesn't have the bottle for the big club.

Would happily take 8m for him now rather than watch him run fast and then stop to turn around every time he gets to a defender again next year. Shooting has been shocking for us too. He'll do well for the group of clubs below us in the EPL, if one of them sign him that is!

If I bought a lot of class C eggs I would end up with egg on my face. For the cost of buying 3 average eggs why not buy one class A egg. In the long run, the club might stand a better chance at winning something.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Worst. analogy. ever

Agree0 Disagree0

Maybe our shop doesn't buy class A eggs anymore because the class A eggs want to be in a store with all the money that's winning awards. We are more like Morrisons at the minute. It's a really nice atmosphere inside but were not winning much.
Or maybe were scared to buy supposed class A eggs because sometimes they turn out to really be class C eggs (carroll) and sometimes they are scrambled (suarez).

Mr H- Clucking sick of it already.

If boiling it and it's a class A rather than a class C does it take longer?
It'll make only a small omelette but that is better than a boiled egg because more people can share it (providing there are enough knifes and forks). Of course, with an omelette you can augment it with bacon perhaps.

Our once great champions league club, finished 7 an improvement of on the season before where they finished 8th place. As business men these Americans must realise the premiership is about to be flooded with money/. Why don't they put their hands in their pockets and spent £50 t0 £100 million on some real talent. pay now and reap later. The real money is in the champions league and not mid table. If Liverpool were given 20mill to spend, and if carroll goes for 15 and suarez for 50 and if fsg give us the money from the tramsfers that's atleast 85mill to spend, so why are we not looking at bigger names?

Bigger names want Champions League football and bigger wages. Liverpool may be willing to spend money on fees but they aren't willing to give players contracts of more than 70-80k per week. Which is sensible considering they don't have 30m of champions league money to spend on wages.

Liverpools best shot is going for young players and developing them or for players that the bigger clubs aren't convinced about for some reason like Suarez when he was at Ajax.

All the big name top bracket players will go to the big name top bracket clubs. In the Prem United, City, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal are all considered bigger clubs as they all battle it out for the champions league places. Plus forigen players would prefer to be based in London which helps Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. And United and City are the top two clubs in the country. Then you have all the top teams abroad such as Juve, AC Milan, Inter, Bayern, Dortmund, Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG and Monaco. These clubs will sign the top players and Liverpool don't stand a chance against any of them when competing for a players signature.

Agree0 Disagree0

A. FSG are a business first so will want money held back. Things like the stadium. Covering loss of income from lack of shirt sales on the away kits.

B. we need players of good quality in depth. If we could get 5 really good players for around £10m each that would be better. We improve the squad in all areas it's not like we were miles behind looking at the second half of the season.

Once we have a really good squad and maybe a CL place then next summer we look to players of the next level when we are also at the next level. TBH at that point we may be happy to do the same again if it gets the results.

Agree0 Disagree0

They may not be bigger clubs historically, or in terms of fan base. But they regulary play Champions league football and challenge for titles. They can also pay players more than Liverpool.

So any player who has no emotional attachment to any english club if given the choice of winning titles and and playing in the champions league and earning a huge wage with City, Chelsea or even Spurs

Or moving to Liverpool and finishing between 10th and 6th, with maybe a europa league run and earning less money.

Which do you think they would choose?

Big teams win their league or at least challenge for it. Liverpool are fighting it out for a europa league place with the likes of Everton, Newcastle, Swansea and West brom. That doesn't sound like the actions of a big club.

The Andy Carroll saga seems to be dragging on a bit, is it really due to the player 'upping' his demands? or is he genuinely wanting another chance at LFC, Which I find baffling as its clear he does not fit into what BR is building, or as I suspect is he holding out for bids from other clubs, mainly Newcastle?

Who ever stands up and defends Luis Suarez is clealry not a fan of Liverpool but a fan of Suarez.

The guy is behaving like a person and has absolutely no respect for anyone associated with Liverpool Football Club. How can you not see that?

Dont let this imbecile pull wool over your eyes, look past the goals and skills and see the bigger picture. The clubs integrity and for all it stands for, Luis Suarez's conduct since the day he walked in hasn't been acceptable and certainly is not the Liverpool way.

Is he trying to make the club look stupid? Is he trying to make the fans look like persons? Hate to be the bearer of bad news guys, but Suarez doesn't want to play for Liverpool anymore! And if you believe different or your trying to convince yourself what he's said is lost in translation, the press are being harsh on him and without him Liverpool would be a sinking ship, then he is most certainly is making a person out of you!

I don't want players at Liverpool who don't want to be here and are only convinced to stay by large wage packets. We as fans say Play for the crest, and he certainly wouldn't be if he were to stay here any longer would he?

Its not his aspirations that annoy me either, he deserves champions league football for his ability on the pitch. Nobody on this earth could doubt what a fantastic football player he is and if he wanted Madrid, who could blame him? Its his public speaking, controversy and his way of deflecting all of his problems on Liverpool F. C that's makes him a class A moron. He could have kept all of this in house but insists on making all his feeling public which really pisses me off. I think many people at the club will be relieved when he's gone to be hoenst!

Id stand by Liverpool more so if we slipped further down the table but had a bunch of lads who gave 100% to the club and conducted thesmelves in the ways expected than have a joker like Suarez here producing, no doubt great things on the pitch but is continualy staining the reputation of LFC. Thankfully though I can't see us slipping any futher with or without him!

The way I see it is it takes a lifetime to build a repuatation and 10 seconds to destroy one. The club is more imporatnt than Luis Suarz and if its in the best interest for the club to sell (which personally I think it is) then let's stand by the club and Brendan Rodgers going forward as we've stood by Suarez for long enough!

Selling him, we'd have a war chest to go out and carefully re-invest in qulaity players which BR has already shown he can do.

Im going on a bit now so ill end it on a open note.

It's not that he doesn't want to play for Liverpool lad it's that he wants to play in the champions League and actually have a chance of winning it or at least winning a trophy, something were miles off doing, so take your Liver bird tinted specs off and look at the bigger picture, more money better climate and most importantly the chance to win some trophy's. FACT!

Excellent post Sam. But, be prepared for abuse from the Suarez lovers (Harry Scousser).

I fear, no matter how much anyone makes it clear, some will not accept that Suarez wants out himself and will blame everyone from Malak to FSG for it.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

I've got no problem if Suarez is sold on Sam. As long as suitable replacements are found.
But if you're going on about the club's integrity, let's have it right here. He should have been moved on last Summer if that's the case.
Why wasn't he? Simple, because we were very clearly understrength and it wasn't in the club's interest at the time to do so.
The club will sell him, I hope, when the time is right.
We could eek another year out of him, improve the squad strength in the meanwhile, and be in a much better position to do without him one year on. But if it is this Summer, fair enough.
But Luis doesn't have to go with Liverpool fans demonising him, that's all. It would be nice to meet up with him in the CL in a couple of seasons time and I, for one, would give him a good clap on to the pitch.
The Juicer

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't blame him for all that Waro, its him being a media darling discussing his future in the open, practically prostituting himself for a move. It isn't on, FACT!

And yes Davey, fair point he has played his heart out for the club and maybe that part didn't make to much sence which I apologise for. Its his antics infurriate me and as I said, I find his recent comments completely disrespectful to everyone associated with the club.

I cannot believe Liverpool fans are buying the "I love Liverpool but I am being hounded out of England" nonsense. Suarez is moving on because he wants to play for a better team. Football fans in general are naive when it comes to their own club, but Liverpool fans sure are some of the most naive around. Suarez has used every dirty trick in the book to get out of Liverpool and because of his actions RM will get him for far less than some of you are expecting. The bloke is a disgrace. When he signed for Liverpool I predicted he would be as bad as Tevez when he wants to leave England, I was so so wrong. HE IS WORSE!

silly season is here so time to view are potential squad for next season based on rumours

keeper. MIGNOLET
(reina looks to be off and this guy looks the best from 3 others being begovic and vorm). jones will probably stay for 1 more year as cover.

rightback. JOHNSON
no reason to think he will be beaten to this position but kelly will surely be breathing down his neck and mclaughlin looks ready to move above flanaghan in the pecking order

leftback. ENRIQUE
cant see brendan rogers going into the new season with no proper cover as think robinson will go out on loan this season so somebody needs to come in

centerbacks. TOURE. AGGER
might well start off in this position as skrtel looks to be on his way out wisdom is a player for the middle and if they can lower the price papadoupoulos might still arrive from schalke would expect coates to also move on with Liverpool agreeing a fee for llori sooner rather than later pearce as a free agent might also add to are central options next season

midfield 2. LUCAS. GERRARD
can see spearing moving on as well as shelvey but with allen, henderson we got some good cover still I can see a player coming in if i'm honest strootman or alonso will be my dream signings mr rogers

attacking 3. ASPAS. MKHITARYAN. COUTINHO
this at present looks to be the most realistic combination as aspas is there and mkhitaryan looks to be are number 1 target.
sterling and suso are both looking to break in this year and a deal for luis alberto looks to be getting closer and depending on price think Liverpool will go back for thomas ince as well with ibe banging on the door and borini able to play in these positions assaidi will probably go out on loan and there will be a question mark over stuart downing and if a place can be found for him in the squad.

front man. STURRIDGE
carroll is gone and i'm afraid suarez is following him out the door aspas and borini can act as back up to sturridge and yesil and morgan i'm sure will have there say but if suarez goes i'd like to see a 4th striker in place

Waro,
Chill mate. anyways I have written off both of them. don't worry, you can count me in.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't need to cut and paste anything to prove your view towards Allen, Borini or indeed even Lucas, and you won't be getting any apology from me.

It is pretty much clear to me that you have players who you feel are good enough for LFC (Morgan, Carroll, Suarez the DF and Reina springs to mind) and players who you feel are NOT good enough for LFC (Allen, Borini, Lucas, Kolo Toure springs to mind).

I distinctly remember you slating Allen, when somebody suggested that he has been playing through injury.

You put forward this thread as others on this site had an opinion (something you have been preaching yourself with respect to your hate of FSG and anyone who mildly remains supportive of FSG) regarding the future of Adam Morgan; like many, I feel he won't make it. You used Morgan as an example to have a dig at Borini and Allen.

The real AG

The real AG, If it's clear to you that I have players who I feel are not good enough for LFC, then why don't you show the other posters some proof to back up your assertions?

You distinctly remember me slating Allen when somebody suggested he has played through with an injury? Well if you remember it I must have posted it so show me it!

Making up lies to try and get one over on another poster is easily done lad, I could start doing that to you, in fact if I remember rightly I have called you out on telling lies about me before, do you remember? I said you had slagged Sturridge off when we signed him just to show you how easy it is to make stuff up, and you didn't like it one bit. Your a liar lad and even worse you've got no class, your clearly in the wrong and are not man enough to apologise.

As I've said, show the posts or stop making lies up!

Waro

Agree0 Disagree0

Stop talking rubbish Waro.

I don't have to prove anything to the other posters regarding your views. The majority of them are well aware of your abusive nature and views.

I am making up lies? I called Sturridge a dud? Go back and find that post if you can you moron. I remember the Sturridge thread and you accused me of slating Sturridge; and when I posted a reply, to prove that I did no such thing, the Eds didn't post. You know why? Because of the abuse your volatile, and yes, classless replies accumulated.

I will leave it up to the others, the Reds, the Eds and even the posters of other sites, to make up their mind who is classless.

You clearly have no intention of discussing LFC related stuff or in banter and are only here for abusing people you daft piece, something that can be proven by searching your name, since you are interested in proof.

Putting down baseless challenges and abuse is your only skill, something this site could do without.

I should also add that BR last season blooded 7 youngster. Credit to him for having the ball ox to do so in his maiden season. The academy is beginning to produce first team players and as has been said by those who run it, over the next 2-3 years we will see the early fruits of the academy's labour. In addition we finally appear to be making progress for an expansion of Anfield. As someone else has said we already have an iconic stadium with the intimacy of old. We will not need to consult acoustic engineers to raise the atmosphere. The future is beginning to look brighter than it has done for a long time. Yes there will be hick ups along the way but let's back BR, the club and each and every player to the hilt. As for Suarez, if he does not want to be a part of it, then it's a real shame but we are far bigger than any one player. If he chooses to go, we will lose a top class forward, but so long as we get top dollar we can reinvest it. £50m spent wisely could bring in 3-4 players of the calibre of Coutinho and Sturridge. The phoenix is rising. Reality Red

Agree0 Disagree0

11 Jun 2013 13:05:05
When BR joined last summer he did not have a scouting network in place and so he relied on his personal knowledge to sign Allen and Borini (and the wild card Assaidi) to boost the team in areas where we were very deficient. Allen and Borini have had difficult seasons but have the potential to make very meaningful contributions this coming season and beyond. Assaidi was gamble, but it was a modest outlay which we should recover it if he is moved on. With BR's scouting team taking shape in January he signed Coutinho and Sturridge and they have both shown that they are top class additions who made and will make very meaningful contributions. With the scouting team now fully in place we are close to signing Aspas who will be a very very good addition for £7.7m. If we can snap up Luis Alberto who we are strongly linked with for £5-8m this may also prove to be a master stroke. He has just had an outstanding season for Barcelona B and has all the attributes to make a similar impact to Coutinho. Finally we appear to be spending wisely. Yes we would all like to be able to sign your £50m Cavanis, however we don't have the money to do so and the alternative is to be smart and sign the Coutinhos of this world. If we can get the next 4 signings in a row right (something we have not done for over 20 years) we will be in a great position next season to make very good progress. I believe Aspas (and Luis Alberto if we get him) are 2 of the 4 required. Reality Red

You could do that but if a ridiculously high bid comes then you accept it you don't reject it, not after he's made it clear he wants to move on. £50m without any overvalued players.

Newcastle's sale of Andy Carroll to us is a good example, imo. They publicly stated they didn't want to sell him even though they were always willing but they just wanted a huge fee. They held out and they got it. The club are publicly stating Suarez is not for sale but realistically of course they'd be willing to listen to large offers after he talked so much rubbish lately (on top of his past discretions).

Andy Carroll was not looking to leave so that's different but Suarez should be forced to do what suits the club first of all now, Lord knows we've looked out for him enough!

What would the reaction be to Suarez from his fellow players when he returns? LFC is his current workplace, and we all know someone in our own place who has acted like an person at some time! Next day in the office there is that awkward moment when he/she walks in!
I know in front of the press other players would all be fine, saying "the right thing", but behind the scenes what would the likes of Gerrard, Reina etc think? Do they want him out because of his behaviour?
Also, what about the thought that LFC are a family? Does the family help and support a member of have they at last run out of patience?

Message for Waro,

I'm not sure what I did to deserve such an aggressive and insulting reponse yesterday. I always keep my posts respectful and most of the time factual based. You asked for a source regarding my comment that Suarez was talking up barca soon after joining us here it is.

http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Liverpool-striker-Luis-Suarez-I-dream-of-playing-for-Barcelona-article755833.html

I know that you'll probably defend him no matter what and claim that every foreigner dreams of barca etc, but the fact is he did not have to say it so soon after joining, and to place it in perspective, real club legends like Fowler and Rush did not talk up other teams even when transferring to them. They remained respectful of Liverpool. I support players who have Liverpools best interests at heart, if they don't then they don't get my support. Suarez clearly doesn't and never has. He plays for the team on the pitch, no denying that, but off it he clearly doesn't care. If he did he would not have been so disrespectful.

Hope that clears the incident up, I don't want to be drawn into an emotional discussion as feelings often cloud judgement.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

Fowler moved down when he left mate.
Rush didn't want to go to Juventus and later he moved down as well.
Your 'factual-based' post is a bit short on this one.
This demonisation of Suarez for actually admitting he would like to play for Barca or Real is typical. I could name you dozens of top players in the Prem that have said similar.
What's the big deal if he dreams of playing for them?
Have you ever seen Luis Suarez go half-a**ed in a game for us?
Personally I wish we had 15 x players who were good enough to make that jump up.

Hope that clears it up for you.

I don't think Liverpool should be dictated to over Reina or Suarez.

Should we let Reina dictate that he'll stay for another year until Barcelona come in for him?

That'll be him focused on our efforts next season won't it?!

As for Suarez, as a Liverpool player, when asked if you'd like to play/form a partnership with Ronaldo the standard answer should be.

I'm not sure he will move to Liverpool this year!

Again media sensationalism plays a part and although I think Suarez is an amazing talent, I think we should look to cash in while we can - £50m for Suarez and £12-£15m for Reina will give us much needed funds to rebuild.

Toure could be a shrewd piece of business with Carra gone and I hope we get our business done early (which we are making the right signs).

Looking forward to next year even through all the turmoil over some of the big names leaving.

Red-Lee

Were you this supportive of Mascherano, Owen and McManaman when they lest SR?

The real AG

(This was a response to one of my posts in support of Suarez by everyone who has suddenly turned on him for the simple reason that he might leave despite everything else).

********************

So The real AG, is this the type of thing all Liverpool fans should resort to now, when players just decide?

What? We just turn against them and stick out noses up at them?

Regardless of players' reasons for wanting to leave, no current or former Liverpool player deserves this kind of treatment!

Players (Top players) leave their clubs all the time, that is the nature of football, and a lot of you need to realize it and accept it.

We all know that Suarez needs to grow up a little, but in all seriousness, so do a lot of our fans!

SR (StrabaneRed)

Believable0 Unbelievable0

I completely agree with the fans reaction regarding players who leave, in that it is mostly over reaction.

But, in most cases, the players cause this reaction themselves, with the way they go about wanting a transfer out of LFC. Torres, Mascherano, Owen, McManaman and now Suarez are examples.

Then there are others, like Alonso, Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy and Hyppia, who left the dignified way. They gave a clear reason, didn't court other teams and hence are still respected in the Liverpool family.

You say they don't deserve this kind of treatment? Why not? When they show no regard or respect for LFC, the supporters all around the World and their fellow professionals, why cannot we not express our emotions?

And in any case, Suarez deserves not get any respect from me.

The real AG

Agree0 Disagree0

So Suarez "wanting" out of Liverpool is disrespectful to the club?

That's irrational; players wish to move clubs all the time in the football world; They want a different challenge, change of weather or change of scenery etc etc. When a player leaves a club it's NEVER disrespectful to the club (Unless of course the player is bad mouthing the club at every opportunity while still there or after)

As far as I know those players you mentioned never did that or disrespected managers.

So why hate?

Maybe you think it's disrespectful to talk about the possibility of a move to another club?

Well, that's also irrational as well.

Players are often asked how they'd feel about joining another club by the media.

Players, generally, answer (honestly) so as not to disrespect the club being asked about.

So a player saying "I think it'd be great to play alongside Messi, he's a fantastic player - or - Bayern are a tremendous team to watch, they play good football, it would be hard to turn that down"; is not disrespectful to our club. Because all it is is speculation and opinion.

SR (StrabaneRed)

Agree0 Disagree0

Completely agree with The real AG.

SR, your comment of 'no player deserves this kind of treatment!' is a double edged sword. No player should have to deal with racial slurs, or being bitten. The treatment Suarez has been given comes in 2 significant parts. The first part is the fact he fully deserves to be heavily criticized with his frankly ridiculous behaviour, and the second part is the media enjoy having 'the bad one' to whip up a media frenzy. Suarez has given them opportunities on a plate. Headlines sell, and he's dragged Liverpool through the headlines on numerous occasions for all the wrong reasons.

As Ed002 has said, he's courted other clubs, he was a significant factor in one of the greatest legends of LFC losing his job (whether that was a good thing or a bad thing is here nor there) and he's damaged Liverpool's reputation. I mean seriously, the guy has been banned for nearly half a season, and in the grand scheme of things hasn't been with the club that long! I cannot stress enough that Suarez is one of the most entertaining and gifted players I've seen for some years, but your point of fans 'needing to grow up' is out of order mate. The fans want players who aren't going to drag the name through the mud, and players who stand by the team in times of hardship (i. e. NOW) instead of using the media as a scapegoat.

Some of us aren't annoyed simply that Suarez is leaving, we're annoyed because of the way he has orchestrated it. Maybe if you read the posts a little closer you'd realise that.

Agree0 Disagree0

And how exactly you know, what exactly the player said, and what was added/twisted by the media?

I don't trust most of the media. I trust the facts they state, like official transfers and amounts after that happened. But not rumours nor opinions they project.

Agree0 Disagree0

This is it. Its not that a player leaves but how they leave. Suarez could have just said that it would be better to play else where, wipe the slate clean and start a fresh. Less is more Luis. Anyway, I wil be happy enough if we get good money for him and spent wisely Brendan!

The Irish Rover

Agree0 Disagree0

I am fully aware that players are transient employs of the club.

You seem to 'respect' the players more than what they deserve based on circumstances.

How do you think LFC would be feeling internally with all the antics Suarez pulls? Certainly the club or any club for that matter would not be happy about one of their employees courting other clubs at every possible opportunity; and in essence is disrespectful.

Players are often asked about other clubs and they answer honestly? Why answer at all when they are contracted to a club? Players answer honestly? That's just a right laugh.

It is definitely not opinion and speculation, it is courting another club publicly, something which Suarez has done over and over again, and as I said above, most clubs would find that disrespectful, and the fans who put these players on a pedestal, even more disrespectful.

Your post is hypocritical. You have a go at fans for not showing 'respect' towards Suarez, but is happy that this player continues to disrespect its fans, his fellow professionals and of course LFC.

Can all the Allen bashers please come forward and state why he is such a poor player or not top 4 quality? He was our best player at the start of the season and it was clear that his form dropped off when over played and he had a shoulder injury? How can you expect him to be at his best?!

London red

Believable0 Unbelievable0

It will tough for him to get a permanent spot in the team, our form improved massively when he was out of the team and Lucas was in with Gerrard and Coutinho playing.

Squad player at best who will cover Gerrard or Lucas better than say Charlie Adam or Spearing have in past seasons.

Mate people have short memories! They only remeber the last few games. Then usually forget all the good and focus on the bad which was caused due to injury! Anyways I hope he comes back next season to shut up the doubters just like Lucas, Coutinho, Henderson, Sturridge, even downing did.

Malak

Agree0 Disagree0

If Lucas wasn't injured for the first half of the season we would have seen the best of Allen. He was playing as a defensive midfielder when he is not that type of player.

Malak does the same not apply. For Skrtel? People forget all the good and focus on the bad. One minute he was our player of the season next he has a bad couple of games and he is useless.

Red Lee

Agree0 Disagree0

He needs to work on his upper body strength because he was easily pushed off the ball last season and also he needs to improve his decision making, be a bit braver and not look for a simple sideways or backward pass, take a few more chances in his play. He's not a bad player just not a £15MILLION player, that's not his fault it was the managers decision to sanction that kind of money when we don't/didn't have much to spend, also it wasn't his fault that the manager stupidly made comparisons with xavi, which in turn raised fans expectations of him.

Sort those issues out and bring him back in slowly and he may improve and turn out a decent player, I just hope he doesn't have anymore kids though because that will set him right back!

Waro

Agree0 Disagree0

I'm on the 'give him time' side of the debate. He's just a kid and has moved to a new, big club. He's been carrying a knock. Tried to play thru it when he needed an op. good, solid lad. No fuss. If BR thinks he's going to be the next big thing then that's good enough for me.

Agree0 Disagree0

I don't think he's a bad player but not a player that actually improves the team. And saying he was our best player when the team was in horrible form isn't exactly a compliment. How many points did LFC get with Allen as our best player? the answer, not enough.

I also don't see a place for him in the midfield 3. He doesn't have the attacking ability or final ball that coutinho has (so can't play as the CAM obviously). He doesn't have the defensive power, marking, or tackling ability to be the rock at CDM that's needed (I also believe a replacement for Lucas is needed next year unless he can find his 2010 form again). And finally Allen does not read the game and dictate play as well as Gerrard or press and harass the opponent as well as Henderson (whose passing is steadily improving). Allen can keep possesion (lots of side/back passes) and can make the occasional tackle but does not provide assists, goals, or adequate protection for the back line. He is our 4th best CM (not counting the CAM's) and doesn't improve the team when he's on the pitch. Squad player and nothing more.

Agree0 Disagree0

London Red I disagree that he was our best player at the start of the season. I think the whole squad were awful, hence the poor rrsults snd performances.

If countinho would have been a failure. BR would have been given 0 million for any recruitment.

Red Lee mate, I hope you read this.
Skrtel just doesn't fit the way we play and also is supposed to be one of the best players at the club yet he was by the far the worst this season and was rightfully dropped for a much better carragher! The difference is simple, skrtel is 28. let's say he has a similar bad season next season, we would loose most of his resale value. Now we can get 10-12 m for him that will help us so much in the reshaping, same goes for shelvy, the 6-7 m we would get would help alot! Both was rarely used and when played looked really bad even when they got prolonged run in the team. Neither did any of them have a an injury which affected their form! They simply look out of sorts because they doesn't fit the way we are trying to play.

Liverpool have a decent smattering of English players at the moment. Henderson, Downing, Sterling, Wisdom, Kelly, Robinson, Flanagan, Coady, etc.
The standard of British players being allowed to develop throughout the game is poor. This is due to very poor coaching and the foreign invasion. Any half-decent English talent will be over-priced.

Of the 25 man squad 8 has to be homegrown.
We have Johnson, Kelly, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Downing, Borini and Sturridge. That's 8.
Then we have Sterling, Wisdom, Suso, Ibe, Coady, Mclaughlin, Robinson, Ward, Dunn, Llyod Jones, and Yesil who will be HG when he spends a couple of more seasons here but those are U21 so there is no need to register them as part of the 25 man squad. We have enough homegrown players or so for the next decade!
Our U18 has the likes of Rossiter, Ojo and Sinclair.
And we are bringing in 3-4 16-17 year olds who after 3 seasons in the academy will be homegrown :) Bring in quality from anywhere I say since any player you're going to buy from the PL will be overhyped and at double or tripple the real value of the player! Carroll and Downing combined on their best days are worth £ 18-20 million, we paid £ 55 million, a bit more actually, so buying English is way overrated and clearly not the way to go! For now at least.

Malak

Are we becoming a side just like Swansea with BR's management with the same type of players and value?

It seems that the club have a policy now of not wanting to spend much above £10m on players due to it not working in the past, which is fine considering we don't have much money. I like the look of the players coming in and I'm sure they will improve us.

However are we going to become a carbon copy of Swansea with lots of good players, yet none world class who could make a difference in getting into the top 4. As much as I would like to be optimistic about us getting into Europe is our squad any better with the signings we make than other side around us?

Many are saying let Suarez go but he is a major player for us, if/when he goes he won't be replaced, we will just have to hope that the scouts can find another gem, but at the level of money we have I doubt we will.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

11 Jun 2013 10:32:48
Not much more than £10m? person. Carroll, Downing, Allen, Henderson, Borini, Suarez, Sturridge have all cost over 10m sines FSG with 4 of those by BR. Then when you look at below 10m you see Coutinho (bargain) Enrique (solid) And the likes of Shelvey, Coates, Assaidi, Dan Wilson, all those players were worth a punt due to potential and not one was signed by BR.
BR spots a player that will fit not his system of play and goes for him regardless of market value. I'd much prefer this to simply signing a big name with an inadequate market value. Look at Balotelli, he's a terrible forward with a wonder goal every couple of games and yet he's worth 25m then you have Mario Gomes who is a renowned finisher and he's going for under the 10m you quote, who's the better player?
The value of a player does not always represent his talent, and I'm glad we have a manager who knows the difference.

Suarez has cast a spell on Liverpool fans who can't understand though he is world class in many attributes he still lacks the 2 most important, Pace and being clinical!
Sturridge since ariving has been more clinical than Suarez infront of goal and that's a fact, check the stats before discussing it because there is no point arguing with facts!

Personally I think the Borini bashing has come a little early. We've been here before with Lucas for example. His workrate is top drawer, he gave us little glimpses of what he is capable of. His positioning is brilliant. Like when he got behind sturridge for his little flick on and ends up 1on1 with the keeper in a reasonably crowded box just for his finish to show his lack of confidence. Also his shot from the edge of the area that hit the post was a peach.
