I've been watching LFCTV for the last few years and have watched most of the reserves and under 18's games and so not surprised at the emergence of Wisdom, Suso, Sterling etc but from what I have seen of Jordan Ibe I think he will make more of an impact than any of them when his time comes.

He's just turned 17 but he's got pace, strength, techical ability, good temperament and a great shot.

Saw the Next Gen game last Wednesday and thought Ryan McLaughlin and Ibe played very well.

Would be interested in other people's thoughts on which players ( if any ) they expect to come through??

Jan

I agree, especially McLaughlin.

Ozone

Ibe has physical presence and power. Which for a lad his age is remarkable. RED LENIN

Hey is so good. I have to say im more excited about him than I was suso and that was a lot

Cudge

Ya Jordon Ibe is the real deal, destined for greatness. Ryan Mclaughlin has improved tenfold. I'll get slated for this but I personally don't see Coady, N'goo or Morgan ever becoming regulars in the senior side like Sterling, Wisdom, Suso and Robinson are or will be. McLaughlin has most definitely over taken Flanno in the pecking order now while I must see more of Sinclair before I put my verdict out but he is so so young.

Yesil looks like a natural goal scorer as you could find anywhere but realistically is he just going to end up back in Germany in a few seasons after we have groomed him so well?

I worry for the centre halves we have coming through. Sama and Sokolik look clumsy and Lloyd Jones hasn't convinced either.

The one I really really like is Adorjan, we could in time develop him into a Modric esque player dropping him even deeper then the number 10 role he currently plays to pull the strings.

I'd love to see more of Texeira and Pelosi and Brad Smith must up their performances if they are going to get into Rodgers thoughts. Sorry for the rant, some talent at the club though.

Saw the game aswell and was very imprssed with both. Yesil also looks like a great prospect, also I think with Sahin now gone I think Connor Coady should be given a chance.

MikeyRed92

Totally agree Jan, I also watch the LFC channel, and can see who will prob make the 1st team squad, jordan Ibe and ryan McLaughin look stand out players, will be following their progress
redforever

I think it will be tough for McLaughlin considering the competition at full back but he does look very promising. Also watched Rossiter in the victory shield and in my opinion was easily the best player in the team so hopefully he will progress into a top player. I thnk everyone's hoping and expecting Ibe and Sinclair to become good players as well but we will just have to wait and see. However the future looks bright !

Red Bish

Smith and Sama

There is a lot of good players mate in the reseveres but they are only kids 17/18 if you move them in too early you can do more damage then good let them be kids for another 12 -18 months, then move them in gently .i would sooner have 10 good season waiting for them, then 2 rushing them in . The strength and muscle still not fully devolved and your going up against the best athletes in the country.

Mclaughin will be the real deal in the coming years with Wisdom doing the Lucas role.I think Wisdom will be a monster of a player in a couple of seasons.

For a footballer, what would be a decent wage?

they have private medical cost, car and house. Wouldn't cutting their wages down to 52k make more sense. Across the FA,

I'm being paid £193 a week after taxes. I can't see what makes footballers worth their money. Six Nations: Wales Alex Cuthbert earns £19,000 wages per year. rugby players train harder and its a real sport {Ed002's Note - The drivers are very different. It is not driven by worth otherwise educators, nurses et al would not be struggling like they are. Always a tough call but one we would let folks discss senibly if we can keep it clear of abuse. Should there be a salary cap? What will happen if there is a pan-European breakaway?....}

The money pours in from sponsorship, tickets, prize pots, etc etc. If it wasn't given to the players the directors would get it all. RED LENIN {Ed001's Note - or they could reduce ticket prices....}

Good questions, Ed002. I don't know that salary caps are the answer on a per player basis, but perhaps something similar to the NBA with a team cap and 'tax penalty' if exceeded might be interesting to see. I'm not a fan of the designated player rule in MLS, but perhaps it's not a terrible idea either.

It would be difficult to implement most anything though as the revenue spread between the smaller clubs and larger clubs (say Swansea and United as an example) is quite steep (what 6x or something similar?). I do think that in general clubs need to start being more reasonable about their wage outlay (here's looking at you City) as otherwise all they do is drag up what everyone else is having to pay and I don't think Fair Play is the right approach towards having a competitive league.

I'm not sure what the answer is but I do think it's an interesting debate to have.

RDL

There should definitely be a salary cap. And potentially a cap on transfer fees too. Imagine the good that 35-36 million pounds we spent on Carroll would do if it were invested in building hospitals or feeding the homeless etc. nurses teachers and the like do jobs which are much more worthy of the 200k a week footballers earn. Does anyone else agree or do you have a differing view?

Conan

Absolutely, especially for the youngsters, it ruins them at an early age. They need to bring back ys 45 quid a week until they are 21' also clubs should make them work for there money, even community work, they need humbling. Nothing against superstars earning big bucks but they need to earn it rather than be given it on a plate

I personally think there should be a salary cap, however football is a multi billion pound industry.

I did read recently how much Sky pay the Premier League for the TV rights, but I can't remember the figures (Ed002 you normally know these things?).

And like it or not, agree with it or not, the players are the stars.

Why shouldn't they earn good money? They're amongst the best at what they do, in a highly popular and profitable industry.

The other thing that people fail to realise is this: top footballers earn incredibly good money, but also pay large amounts of tax; contributing enormously to this countries economy.

Yet they're always used as scapegoats.

Why don't people ever slag off Lewis Hamilton, who earns more than any footballer, and moved to Switzerland to avoid paying tax in this country?

That's just my opinion anyway.

If anyone feels so strongly about footballers earning too much money, stop complaining about it and cancel your Sky subscription.

Joe

What's a 'real sport'? If you have literally millions of people worldwide watching a game hoping Luis Suarez scores he's worth a hell of a lot of money to TV companies, merchandise sellers, sponsors, fans and the club itself. He's paid a huge amount in the same way that golfers, boxers and F1 drivers are. No offence but Alex Cuthbert isn't going to be getting much for his signed photos in Bolivian villages any time soon.
Having said that, I'd like to see salary caps introduced if only to stop the poaching of the best players by wealthier clubs. Not sure how, or if, it would work though especially as the players get extra income from sources other than their wages.

cozinoz

My friend, your thoughts makes sense but we don't live in a sensible world.
Football is the most watched sport on tv in the world. Sky pays a fortune to clubs for the tv rights and players feel entitled to that money. Film stars get 10 to 15m per film. They are pampered and kept in cotton wool and they sometimes behave like persons. Footballers work hard in comparison, they compete for real with other young men and most put in an honest shift.
There is too much money in football but that's the way it is, it will get even worse and the bubble will NOT burst because people will always love to watch football. Specially now that the Americans are beginning to watch 'soccer' too.
Iranred in London

Stick to rugby pages if you think that's a real sport then. Where all here to talk about the biggest club in the world playing the biggest sport in the world.

When third rate footballers like Stuart Downing are paid more per month than a consultant pediatrician it's a very f*****d up world. There should certainly be a salary cap, what else are they going to do, get real jobs ?? Beardsley's Boot's

Football is massive money with massive prizes.......They pay these footballers big money because they market for big money for the club and bring in the big prizes.

Its all about whos willing to pay what to get whom.

Kopping a feel

Putting a cap on a salary I feel would almost be impossible to implement. Firstly if there was 1 in place how many clubs would start paying under the counter payments and how would you regulate that. Secondly and I'm guessing figures here, but is there that many players in all the top leagues in Europe getting super money. I can't see for example say Reading or even Aston Villa ( long time premiership club ) paying huge money to many of their players. True that Rugby players are played far less, but football players aren't on the top when it comes to professionals being payed. Football is a massive global product that is equally supported and will continue to pay the real top players the money they can negotiate. Capatlism rules today my friend, if communism makes a comeback we are where we are till then.

Owen

Remove the large Salary and the Glamour is removed from the game

Obsene amounts paid to players adds to the attraction

Of course its not morally right the money they get but then what is morally right these days?

The world is becoming increasingly messed up and the powers that be like it that way but that's for another channel

You are only worth what someone is willing to pay you. Can you blame them for accepting that money?

You say that but isn't it up to the owners? If the person who owns your company decided to pay you that much would you be complaining? Although what I can't stand is footballers leaving or asking for more money! That's disgraceful considering they earn more then everyone does in a year in a week

London red

Ed02 is right...wages are based on thevscarcity of the resource, combined for the demand of said resource...football is big business, those at the top end earn stupid money.
I hAve always been in favour of a salary cap, not to make the wages seem less insane, but to the level the playing field amongst the clubs. The problem is it will also be opposed by those who will lose out, .
I wonder if the FIFA financial fair play will have any effect...if it was properly applied, enforced, it would result in quasi internal salary caps. However the big spenders will always distort the market...city, anzi, psg etc...
Paul Mc

It is ridiculous when players demand even higher wages. How much is too much? Top players will earn in a month more than most people will earn in a lifetime (£1M). I get supply and demand, I get that very few people are good enough, but it has got beyond a joke. I don't know how people afford to go to games any more. It isn't going to get any better either - all these American owners want sustainable models so will squeeze every last penny out of every opportunity. Higher prices, more kits...

AJH

The rule to only spend any profit will soon start causing high wage demands to be reduced. you think this is the best way.

Red Viking {Ed002's Note - It is rather more complicated than that RV.}

RE:Nuri Sahin

Would any1 else agree, that Sahin is talented midfielder.

Possibly the most talented midfielder we had but BR is convinced Allen is better.
This is a worry to me

Talent is one thing - having the ambition and be willing to put in the effort and getting stuck in is another - he had a chance to do this at a top club and re-estalish his reputation but didn't take it - we can't afford to carry a loan player on massive money. BR has been ruthless and I for one agree.

Jan

BOTH Allen and Sahin are useless

I think the main concern with sahin wouldve been the fact that most likely if a good offer came in at the end of the season so why sacrafice the growth of the players that are commited to the cause. He was needed at tue start but so many players have stepped up to the plate. I.e henderson has been a differwnt player.

No doubting sahin was good.

Cudge

12 Jan 2013 00:38:19
He is a very talented football and I think he will thrive back at Dortmund amongst players we grew up with at Dortmund. Some times it just doesn't work out.

I can imagine Madrid recovering their losses in the Summer and a permanant move back to Dortmund.

Good luck Nuri.

Jolly Red

Spot on, Jan - there's plenty of talented players who fizzle out because they don't have the attitude, energy and passion.

12 Jan 2013 02:50:53
To be honest if you were on the pitch playing for Liverpool and you got a broken nose would you leave the game? Not only leave the game but fanny yourself out of training for days and weeks after with an attitude of why isnt it all about me?
Hes not got the right attitude for what we need. Best get the neg heads out before they infect the squad.
We learnt that from torres.

Kev79

Potentially the best player we have in my opinion, after Suarez of course !!Beardsley's Boot's

BR is after players who have a good all-round game. It is not enough to be talented in one area or aspect. Solid all-round ability is better for a team sport.

Liverpres

What would you rather

Talent with no real desire re Sahin

or

Talent with desire, and a hunger to succeed re Allen

Get behind the players we have at the club not those who come on loan just to prove themselves to other clubs in the belief they will get a big transfer out of it.

Evered

12 Jan 2013 11:44:25
So many people slated him because his form was bad, that's why he's in the team.
It didn't work out and BR stopped it in its tracks.
You'd only all be moaning if he'd started every game and was still in bad form.

Ha ha ha Ferguson s######g himself again trying to play mind games about Suarez hope Rodgers doesn't fall 4 it, lets just do our talking on the pitch Sunday, someone tell Ferguson his mind games are to old now

Ex-Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan's "I will love it" remark is voted the most memorable quote in the Premier League era.

signed alex ferguson

12 Jan 2013 00:09:16
That's better ( signed Alex Ferguson ) should never be sir should it ha ha

Alex, reckon its time you retired and find yourself a nice nursing home .
redforever

I think the Utd squad runs itself now, all ferguson does is think up crap for the press before each match.

The worlds moved on since 1997

But that was a long LONG time ago now.

signed Kevin Keegan

I think the one thing that BR has is a very determined mind and he want get pulled into fergi little games, and to be fair, I think that is where we have gone wrong in the past . If you don't react to his childish behaviour then he will find some one else .notice not much said towards Mancini after last year .

sahin and coles wages should free up money for another signing or 2, for me i hope we get theo walnut and mayby tony ince
king sting

I was hoping for cashew nuts

Not sure how they will free up money - we paid to get rid of Cole; Sahin we are still out of pocket - can't see us having that much money to spend and support wages regardless of these leaving (remember we tried to get rid of Henderson in the summer so Sahin's gone instead).

11 Jan 2013 22:16:09
i know this won't happen, but with cole partly off the wage bill and sahins 90k of it aswell, that would cover the magical wesley sneijders wages, maybe he wouldnt want the move but we at least should make a move, he is a genius
it would also prove to suarez we mean buisness
ed1 ed2 and every1 what do you think?

majestic69

It might cover sneiders but doesnt gerrard have a clause in his contract that he has to be along side the highest paid player at the club so cole an sahin would cover sneiders wage where would they find the extra 80000 needed to bring stevie g in line then surely saurez would be thinking why arent i on that too gets bit pricey after its all added up

It won't happen. We aint gonna bring anyone in and pay them more than suarez or gerrard. Which would be the case with him

cudge

I should think what Suarez gets paid a week & the support he's had from the club & fans
Should show him all he needs on that front!

YNWA

Lyndon

Even if we did go in for Wesley, Tottenham would sneak up behind us and grab him!

Myk

You have a point. But we should not make Sneider the best paid player at the club and as Stevie is on ~£120k per week whether sneider would come for that or slightly less is questionable? Then again, who else is going to pay him more....a few clubs may but not many.

Pls.Fsg let's start buying players to match our aspirations..this spending money on young talent is doomed for failure(just ask wenger)borini and allen cost more than chico flores, pablo hernandez, de guzman, michu and ki??WTF.we already have a strong core of players with johnson, agger, skrtel, lucas, suarez and even sterling just buy 3 or 4 more quality players we would be challenging for top4 places. We spend more than spurs almost every year but they still do better than us every year..why can't we just sign damaio??why go for ince and sturridge

If we continue with this model, then no top4 for a while.loyalty in football is almost extinct all top class players want to play champions league and win trophies, if they can get it with us they would go somewhere else..I rather we buy one world class player than sturridge and ince

Totally agree mate. We seem to buy players for the sake of it. It would make more sense to buy to buy 1 good player instead of 3 talentless ones just to make up the numbers

So who would you have got that is world class, available, decent wages and wants to come here?

Borini and Sturridge cost half of either Shevchenko, Veron, Torres and they sucked in the Premier League. So what's your point again?

Ohh you forgot to sing your post...
N Mr. Filled with Samrty Pants please do advice which your so called "top class quality players" wants to join us right now..please think before you say anything

You make you're own point. We have plenty of experience. The key is moving older fringe players on and replacing with hungry young talent to keep pressure on the spine of our team.

Reina, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel, Agger; Lucas, Gerrard, Henderson; Sturridge, Suarez, Downing (2 players under 25)

Jones; Wisdom, Kelly/Carragher, Coates, Robinson; Allen, Shelvey, Suso; Sterling, Borini, Assaidi (2 players over 25)

Balance of squad looks fine to me. Move on Doni and Pacheco and bring in Ince (goals) and a loan player and in the summer go all out for a creative and goal scoring midfielder, a CB to replace Carra and promote Yesil.

So you think Florez Hernandez and Michu will get you champions league, MOTD fever.
None of those players will have the same impact next year they will all be found out, just trust in your manager and wait and see and stop comparing us with all opposition, We have great talent coming through, better than all those you mention, just have a bit of patience and i am sure we will get it right. Starting by beating Utd tomorrow.

Eds I'm a bit confused BR has said that suarez thrives off all the media critism he gets (I get so annoyed about how the individually pick on him something should be done because its ridiculous) but then camolli just said he could be driven out the premier league because of it? What's your on opinions on it affecting him? I mean the guy to me along side Stevie has got to be my fav player not just for how good is but the guys works so hard you can't not love him except if your against him. But thanks for answering if you do :)

London red

Suarez plays with anger. he'll get motivated to score or he'll get himself sent off trying.

I don't know what its got to do with Comolli - he's obviously looking for attention. I don't think the odd chorus of boos and hysteria in certain sections of the press is going to determine Suarez's future. He has always said Liverpool was the club he wanted and was over the moon that we paid a lot of money for him. We are the club that have given him his first bumper contract and he has bonded with the team, the club and the fans. Most importantly he's scoring and the team is playing to his strengths. He doesn't need to look far for a salutory lesson in how unwise it is for a footballer to leave a club when he's scoring freely, playing well, adored by the fans and an integral part of the clubs future (ahem, Fernando). Ultimately only Suarez knows what his ambitions are but I believe the major test of his loyalty will be whether we keep progressing - if he believes in the project he'll stay; I think all the anti-Suarez stuff has just bonded him more to the club and especially to the fans and after everything he's already been through I think its all water off a ducks back. Also he's an extrordinary individual and obviously extremely mentally strong (ahem, Fernando) - there's no way the boo-boys are going to push him out. However, if we miss fourth and Barcelona come in for him...

Belfast Pete

We should try and buy or loan 2 or 3 really class players, then Suarez will def stay, and we will go on and make top four and more

Now we've got rid of two big wage midfielders do you think we'll bring in a number 10 if so who's most likely?

I think we are going to try and sign eriksen in the summer.

Oh boy I hope we do. He is similar to Zidane in terms of close control, technique and vision. Would be an incredible signing.

11 Jan 2013 21:47:29
I saw a score prediction for our match that put it at 2 - 0 to United on Sly Sports News.

I expect this match to leak goals with what are two of the leakiest defenses in the top half and two of the best, highest scoring strikers in the league. I don't expect either team to leave with one goal.

I'm not saying we will win, but the only way United will beat us is by out-scoring us (as they have had to do to most teams this season). No one in this fixture will leave with a clean sheet. As, always we will give them a run for their money, and any points they get will be hard earned.

Jolly Red

"the only way United will beat us is by out-scoring us"

There is of course another way they could beat us... the same way they did at Anfield. Sending off ( almost guaranteed in my mind ) plus of course don't forget they will also get a penalty, disallowed goals for no apparent reason and then there's old Fergie time to contend with.

If we beat them at their own ground with the vegetables screaming at the ref for 90 minutes ( or longer!) it would be a miracle...but hey, we can dream boys.

At least we can give our best and come away with a smile on our faces even if we get beaten, something old whiskey nose can't do

Theory.
Liverpool have no number 9, 10 or 11. Some great players have worn these shirts, perhaps three big players to help rebuild the kop? Thoughts eds?

No.9 - Torres

No.10 - Erickson

No.11 - Turan

A front 3 of these to pick from would be amazing.

Turan Torres Suarez

Sterling Sturridge Downing

Assaidi Borini Suso

11 Jan 2013 23:25:25
So what do you have in mind? A bricky, a groundworker and a plumber?

Ashy

Assaidi is number 11

Conan

No. 9 Andy Carroll

Who ever said the bricky comment, you've missed a chippy . With all those player we will need a bigger bench made .

You would need a Chippy to join the them together, Ashy.

Look we can't afford a chippy as well, we are working on a budget here, maybe we can loan one or reduce the wage bill and get one in the summer!

kelly is a fantastic player but he is always injured so do we take the chance on giving him a new long term contract or get him of the wage bill?

Keep him he will fill Carra's boots

BigD

He probs doesnt earn much anyways

Always injured? You make it sound like he has frequent injuries. In his time in the time he's had two long-term injuries - the most recent one a cruciate ligament one. You're being a touch unfair on him saying he's always injured - he's just been unlucky with injuries.

People have short memories - Gerrard was repeatedly injured for his first two years in the first team .

Thank goodness we didn't get him off the payroll or we would now be playing in the Vauxhall Premier !

Kelly is not man enough to fill Carra's boots

Carra boots are made for tough men not straw men

Tommy Smith now he could more than fill carra boots, Larry Lloyd, Emlyn Hughes, et al

You realise that Carragher wouldn't have been deemed fit to lace Hughes boots when he was 22 right?
If Johnno ever leaves, we have a perfect replacement in Kelly, and no use letting him go, i doubt we'd miss the 15-20k a week that badly.

Torres Back To Liverpoool?

Lets take us supporters and the club out of the equation..... What about Torres?

Everyone can make a mistake... but is Torres big enough to go back to Liverpool... say sorry and want to prove to the whole world that he is the player that Liverpool feed him to become.

Also... the theory of Lampard vs Gerrard should be put to rest by the world of football.... at Liverpool Torres... and the world knew... that one player is going to feed this guy goals... and it happened without anyone being able to stop it.

Chelsea? ... Hazard, Mata, Oscar and Lampard... these players care for nothing apart from themselves and Torres doesnt know if he is coming or going.

Liverpool... a great TEAM.

Torres... A player which always relied on explosive pace that was incomparable to any player in the world and great finishing.. Well he got an operation and lost his pace.. Even Torres at his best never had a great touch

The Torres who played for us no longer exists, like that Turkey we were all eating two weeks ago - why can't people accept this .

Hi, eds do you think BR was happy 2let sahin go as maybe he's got a replacement in mind maybe a no 10 who would only cost 9m and his agent has said he is willing 2take a pay cut. Now we've freed up2 180,000 G's in wages we can afford 120,000 on landing sneijder? Only 9m WTF wot are we waiting for? It could be a major coup for us he is class! + would get alot of money back in shirt sale, + he would also attract other big names back at our club!can you see any movement for him from us now we've of loaded 2 midfielders? He would jump at the chance 2join has said he doesn't want chelsea, utd, city as he dnt wanna be rotated he's in need of games, were in need of quality in final 3rd, if we dnt even attempt 2negotiate a package for him, I fear for the type of players BR wants at our club. {Ed002's Note - Sure - anything you want.}

11 Jan 2013 20:16:36
Surely we are going to be looking in to another midfielder? Hopefully another quality deep lying midfielder. Do any of the eds have an idea of who might be available to us in January that would be realistic?

Cheers
Daryll

For me this is the chance for Connor Coady to be given a chance, rather than buy another midfielder.

MikeyRed92

ALONSO!! ;) he will be back one day!

12 Jan 2013 15:06:45
The problem with Coady is he won't improve the options we already have.
You can't tell me you'd rather Coady play than Hendo or Shelvey?

With a little time to kill, I thought Id just have a little discussion regarding players that have previously played for us, and importantly whether we'd welcome them bank, want them back, whatever and with my opinion attached

Xabi Alonso - For the first part of his LFC career he managed to slip quietly under the net, although towards the end we really saw the true quality he posessed. He will always have Liverpool in his heart and Im sure all fans still have him in theres. he's often said he'd love a return (not to get peoples hopes up) and so there's no doubt Xabi would be welcomed back and adored by the Kop. Question is not about his ability but his age, would our transfer policy allow a golden exception?

Javier Mascherano - the Engine in the Liverpool side that conquered some of Europe's greats. However after jumping ship immediately after the Rafa reign his reputation has been tarnished a litte. Credit where credit's due and after winning the Champions League with Barcelona Masch did say "This was for Liverpool". Once again age is not on his side, if Liverpool were to ever consider a return, under this current transfer policy. Crucially however is his change of position to now prodimenantly playing as a centre back

Fernando Torres - We Idolised Torres. He was our new Hero. Then things really went sour. His move away had been in the pipeline for a long time however his abrubt ending, leading to the burning of his shirt by some fans, will never bode well. How the great have fallen though and he seemingly looks like he will be gone from Chelsea in the Summer most likely. I don't think it would be a question over Liverpool fans accepting him back, I think it would be firstly the issue of not will he get back to his best but can he actually capably do it? Im sure that if he were to fully open the reasons and decisions made in the departure Fans would be happy for his return

Ryan Babel - Never a great in his Liverpool career and many did question his work ethic. I personally have no doubts, and never have, over his ability although he does seem to have been one of those players who was given too much praise and money too early in his career for him to be motivated enough to develop. He never had a bad word to say about the club however and even offered to be included in the Suarez deal which would please both him and the club! With years still ahead age is not an issue in Babel's case although there is a dark spot over work ethic. Technically sound, a player I would love to have back swinging more to sentimental values over what he'd add to the team however.

Raul Meireles - This one, similarly to Babel looks slightly out of place when considering a "Great return". Afterall he was only hear for 1 year. Although he did capture the hearts of many in that 1 year. His determination and work ethic paid dividends towards the latter parts of his term at Liverpool when he managed 6 goals in 7 games. I will always remember his volley against Wolves, probably his finest in the red shirt. To me the selling of Meireles epitimised the regime under Comolli and Dalglish. How Charlie Adam (without wanting to be disrespectful) could possibly seen as being of a higher quality i will never know. the only eyebrow raised over Raul was his physical toughness although it seemed of no hinderance in his Chelsea days. I for one was upset of his departure. like Xabi age is certainly an issue with Raul sitting on the wrong side of 30. But he would certainly benefit the team if ever he returned.

Personally I believe Xabi as most likely to come back as his position does not require the legs or energy that the Attacking role and wider roles would. This being said I still think a return, in playing capacity, is quite unlikely. Out of all the players however the one I would most like to see come back would be Torres - as a previous idol of mine he will always be a player that i look out for and monitor his progress.

Just to clarify, I am not saying we should bring them back or even that the players will ever come back. I was just taking a little trip down recent memory lanes.

Please feel free to comment -
Who would you most like to return?
Who do you think has the best chance of returning?
Any other players in recent years that you think are worth a mention too... (Arbeloa, Cisse, Momo Sissoko, Mark Gonzalez, Insua, Riise...)

Thanks for reading
SR

Insua has become a fine player. I didn't want him to go I have to say, and he has become a quality player.

eds hope your all well walk on, just a quick one, come on the boys, lets have the big win sunday boys im buzzing bring em on.come on the pool can't wait for 1pm sunday.right eds now we have moved on the like's of cole, and nuri sahin that's big money off are wage bill, we don't need no more middfilder's in the door in this window let's just go with what we have got.i hope we don't go for ince leave him, we have some great young lad's in the under 21's that are just as good as that boy, if not better and that's a fact.i hope LFC slam in a bid for a boy called WALCOTT.the talk's are not going well for the gooner's so they are saying, the deal is said to be going slow, sure ok it would be 100 grand a week for the boy walcott but cole was on 90 grand a week, and never played for us.walcott is class young player and fit's the bill.i would love to see him play for us.cheer's eds.jay essex red for life red till dead.as alway's walking on with hope...........

11 Jan 2013 20:05:50
Coincidence or not?
Liverpool cancel sahin loan deal paying that player a lot of money 90,000 p/w. is this money being freed up for theo Walcott? Who still hasn't signed a contract of yet .

If he comes in or not and I have a gut feeling he may. Unless money is freed up we are unable to look at these sorts of deals.
So why pay 80k per week to players that have little or no affect on the league starting XI
Until we get CL football we don't have that luxury.

Markolfc

Yep, just coincidence. Walcott will not be moving to Liverpool.

11 Jan 2013 20:05:34
Just wondering with Sahin going that must free up big money salary wise. Could there be an option for Sneijder? What we think eds?

Have we not recorded massive losses in the last number of years?

11 Jan 2013 19:58:12
Rumours are West Ham could cancel Carroll's loan because he's disappointed them.
Then we would use Carroll in an exchange for Ben Arfa with Newcastle.
What are the chances of any of this happening?

One problem there- would Newcastle really want him back? I doubt it.

I don't think that 'disapointment' will be an acceptable reason to give him back. I tried that with a TV, not a chance! Had the receipt and everything as well.

Myk

Would you swap Ben Arfa for Carroll if they played for the opposite clubs?

11 Jan 2013 19:58:00
The form of the youngsters, including Henderson and the return of Lucas has made Sahin surplus to requirements. There will not be a replacement brought in.

11 Jan 2013 19:33:44
With Sahin now gone surely we've got to consider Sniejder?? It's all pointing in the right direction! He's world class, available, affordable and we need a replacement, have wages freed up(cole, Sahin)and he wants a move to England!! To let him go to the footballing backwater that is gala and the Greek league would be a crime!! Someone needs to pull there finger out on this one!!

It's in Turkey!!

11 Jan 2013 22:42:17
Mate if you know footy in and out then sniejder won't fit in our systeam his best position is behind striker but we play 4-3-3 the days are gone we used to play midfielders behind striker so his going to be wastage of money. I don't think we need any midfielder at the moment we have got enough of them and some fantastic youth players like suso, adorjan etc I still think we need more firepower upfront with suarez who can scare deffenders like persie. If we get class striker our a lot of problems are going to be solved. If we get a striker like Higuain or lendowaski pairing with suarez all of a sudden we will look like world beaters

11 Jan 2013 22:44:17
Gala aren't in greek league son, there turkish geezer

If you knew your footie then you would realise wot the hype ove the number 10 is....! Someone to play behind the striker in the attacking midfield role. Rodgers rotates the style of 433 he plays sometimes with two holding and one advanced or one sitting and two advanced or one sitting one box to box and one advanced. So lets do your homework son before you try and slate someone. Where not getting sneijder (or almost certainly not, as you can never say neva) but the advanced midfield role would suit sneijder. and if he woz maybe a year or two younger and we had money security through championS league, then he would be the perfect person to link our midfield with attack.
Anyway I support rodgers, looking bright for the future and good luck sunday lads. Give 100% that's all we ask for.

With inter accepting a 10million euro (£8.3m) bid from Galatasary and Sneijder prob gonna accept terms by tomorrow, can some1 tell me wat is going on? surely he has more attractive options? Liverpool should be seriously pursuing him, Gala surely cannot afford his massive wages so he must be taking a seriously reduced wage package? united have been chasing him for the guts of 2 years and when he comes on the market for cheap they don't seem interested, is der something going on behind the scenes that we don't know? can any of the eds care 2 shed some light, thanks guys
concon

The Turks are matching/paying his full wages of 163k GBP a week. We won't do that in a zillion years. Stevie G is on 140k and Suarez 120k, there is no way we'd pay him more than Suarez much less Stevie's grandfathered in contract.

Personally, I'd jump at taking him in on Suarez type wages on a 3-4 year deal which would require him to take a 25% pay cut and more after UK taxes. A big roll of the dice but potentially a world class upgrade to the team. But I don't see why he'd want to do that if the Turks are paying him a fat sack of cash.

SpudRed

He will pay next too nothing in Tax in Turkey.
So they can easily paying more Nett than we could ever afford,

Plus next day Suarez and Gerrard would be knocking the office door down!!

Stop being obsessed with "Super stars"

Its boring let's try building a team

Lyndon

Please oh please can you find it in your heart to write 'there' instead of 'der' it is one more button on der keyboard

thanks

Well if UTD who can afford his wages have decided against signing him this time then that must tell you something?

Max

Errrr why would Sneijder choose Liverpool over Galataseray? Someone's had too many shandys!! Alright there mate caaaamm down, caaaam down!

Patzi

He is not 'young, hungry and prepared to fight for the shirt'

There is some good money in Turkey and I think they still have CL don't they? Gala is a huge club. Do we really want him for what we will get out of him or back for him at the cost he will be? I am not so sure.

Andy K

Strange isnt it

11 Jan 2013 22:19:44
Theres nothing sinister mate, it's a combination of Form(or lack of), injuries, high wages and age.
He's going to be looking for a 3-4 year deal, on silly wages, that's why he's a gamble.
WelshBoyDave

If he goes to Turkey then he's obviously not going for footballing reasons. We don't need a player who puts money first

We are targeting eriksen in the summer who is much younger and will be less when you take wages into account.

11 Jan 2013 19:05:11
Im surprised the Sahin loan did not work out better, but sometimes things just don't. He struggled with injuries and I also think Rodgers decided he'd rather give the time to Shelvey and Henderson to see what role they can play long term.

Kevin

If that was the case then fair play to Brendan.

Rogers didn't give him a chance just like Carroll, Sahin was never going to replace his darling Allen for a minute.

there was talk of paul ince taking over the reins at blackpool, if that does happen will that affect tom inces decision?

More likely to come to us after blackpool get relegated. Daddy is all mouth no brain, technically known as a gobrubbish.

I hope so, hope they decide to keep him.

Hello Ed002,
is it possible Xabi Alonso relpaces Sahin? Would have been an excelent piece of work by the club and the thrilling information for the fans who love this club.
tom

{Ed006's Note - Not in January.}

It's hard for any top quality player to want to play for a mid-table club like Liverpool. No matter how much you pay him to join. That's why you have to applaud Suarez, sure he won't be around for long, but at least while he is there he is giving 100%.

11 Jan 2013 18:38:49
ED If we sell Suarez this summer (which looks likely)what is the ongoing strategy for recovery? Our recruitment, ins and outs seem confused and ad hoc. The message of Suarez moving on only underlines our decline and makes us less attractive destination for top players.

I am deeply concerned by FSG yes they are keeping the debt down but don't seem to have a coherent strategy to rebuild the team.

If its down to the academey then Charlton shudda won the Prem years ago, but the modern game is about decent recruitment.

FSG don't seem to have a road map back to success.

{Ed006's Note - Why is it likely that we will sell Suarez in the summer?}

Why did Tom Werner get rid of San Diego Pardes best players in the 90's?

Hi eds and posters just like to point out that I posted about sahin on january 1 and was shot down.

01 Jan 2013 11:58:39
Hi eds and posters.
This is not certain to happen - as BR will more than happily make a u-turn on the decision to sell a player ala Henderson, Enrique - however at present I have it on good authority that he is very much wanting to cancel the sahib loan deal.
Now I believe he is a highly talented player but no one can argue that he's set the place alight. BR signed him as a creative player and if the loan is terminated I have been told he will certainly be in the market for a similar player, whom this may be is not known but he already has a number of players being scouted in Europe for this position and he would look to sign these most probably on a permanent transfer.
This is all the info I have right now but as I said it could all very much change depending on his performances after returning from injury.
Thanks

£3.50 an hour, double time on a Sunday.

The package, to include loan fee, wages to inc.ude the different tax regime and relocation costs allegedly equated to £225k a week over the twelve months.

Between 70-90k

11 Jan 2013 21:45:14
More then 100+K aweek and at the sametime he had caused a lot of problems behind scenes. He even went far saying he doesn't rate Rodgers in media. It was a good rid as he was hurting our club image and Rodgers reputation.

11 Jan 2013 18:19:51
With Sahin gone, do you think we'll make a move for a no 10 in january? Shelvey doesnt seem to be ready..

Shelvey is ready imo, and i'd like to see a wide player so Suso can fill the 10 spot

11 Jan 2013 18:16:00
As long as we add to the 1st team squad I will be happy
ie if 3 players leave (cole/Sahin/maybe Coates) then we add at least 4 new players to the 1st team squad

If we don't then I will have all future Werner/Henry/Ayre/Rodgers interviews on mute as I will never trust a word they say

Leam Red

Sahin barely played and cost a lot, I had great hopes however he hasnt appeared to be up to the pace, maybe for good reason, although he does look quite clean on the ball given time. Cole wasnt a regular and was costing a lot. Sturridge will give us more value than Cole. So overall, we have lost two players who barely played and have brought in one who will. We have had two players leave who cost a fortune. One coming in at reduced wages comparatively. One is a midfielder where we have plenty to cover the back two positions. One 'forward' who doesnt play heading out, one forward in who will play. So far I believe we are up this window. We have some youngsters getting loan experience. That and we are only 12 days into the window.

Andy K

11 Jan 2013 18:13:12
with sahin gone, it would not surprise me if we make a offer for strootman a left footed midfielder from psv.will cost money but i have a feeling that we will spend again last week of the transfer window.
it makes sence to say you don't have money when your planning too spend.
if we get him we really don't need that many players maybe replacement for carra and downing that's all.
why we are talking abt gameiro is a i don't understand.
sturridge/sterling/suarez/borini/downing/suso that's enough unless someone leaves.
eds?

Yes that`s enough but the question is, is it GOOD enough, we will see at the end of the season, but my gut feeling, it`s not

Why don't we go for M. Sissoko from Toulouse!! We need a bit more steel in CM.

11 Jan 2013 18:10:26
Our recruitment process is becoming ever more shambolic, what was that Sahin business all about, total waste of wages.

We are meant to be being shrewd in the market but we are quite the opposite.

I thought Rick Parry was a joke yet it looks like he is several levels above this shower.

Didn't work out; been sorted quickly, good. What's there to moan about.
kidmillions

You do realise that much of what was blamed on Parry wasn't actually his fault?

Oh, its utterly shambolic because it didn't work out? Get real. Every club has a lot of transfers and loans that don't work out. We all wanted Sahin to come to Anfield. It hasn't worked out. That doesn't mean that we were all wrong to think he would be a good player. Or else maybe the board at Liverpool need to learn how to tell the future to avoid being so 'shambolic' again? Have a bit of sense.

Belfast Pete

Another unsigned poster talking rubbish. He came in with good form and reputation, it hasn't worked, now we are getting rid, sensible decision.
What's your problem?
REDditch

So you want us to keep a player who just isn't working out, presumably until after you've had chance to vent your bile at him, rather than simply accepting you can't win them all, and acting quickly to do something better? Nice one. Good job you're not in charge then eh?

ND

So we paid less for a player as a loan as apposed to buying a player returning from injury. It hasnt worked out like everyone would have liked, which happens, we are cutting our losses. Sounds like a reasonable way to do business. Every manager has experiences where their signing don't work out. If they are a loan then it is less of a loss than a English transfer record and not work out.

Andy K

He was a joke

Agree with Andy K.

FSG/BR have copped a lot of flack lately for their transfer business. However, this seems to be a time where they got it right. Sahin is/was a great player (as proved by his time at Dortmund), but he did not step up at Madrid and so it was a bit of a risk for another club to buy him. Using a loan was the perfect way to test him out. LFC could have gone hard and tried to buy him, but they settled for a loan (partly because this is what Madrid wanted). Now, it didn't work out and the gamble hasn't paid off, but LFC is not greatly out of pocket. Sounds like good transfer policy to me.

Hey guys.
Not a rumour just a question about a couple of players.
Firstly, Etienne Capoue of Toulouse. I rate him highly, very good player, have we shown any interest in him at all? Moussa Sissoko possibly also? Although Sissoko hasn't had a particularly good year.
Secondly, Bressan (The Belarussian). I realise he may have recently moved therefore making any move very unlikely if not impossible right now, but have we ever looked or expressed interest him in? I believe him to be a good player, smart tactically also.
Finally, Markovic (the young lad, from Partizan I believe?), I don't know huge amounts about this lad, but I have heard he's very highly rated?

Cheers

I rather think if a replacement arrives then it would be Inan that comes in as ed002 suggested it would be shrewd business of course those that know me would know Honda is the one I'd go for! The most likely thing is no replacement see how the youngsters get on like Suso Shelvey etc until the summer.

Donkey :) been called worse.

I know that we did over spend on some but Suarez, and Enrique would make us the loses on those if sold near enough.

Allen, Boroni and Sahin so far don't look like £30m well spent either.

So many on here knock KK yet every manager before him and after has wasted money here and there.

Carroll can be unplayable at times not that he was worth 35m but that was all down to Chelsea and Newcastle on what they would pay and sell for. The money we got out of that deal paid for Suarez.

Only time Carroll was ever unplayable was when he was injured or suspended.

Kenny did make mistakes, Roy certainly did, Rafa did, Brendan will/has, Houllier did, Ferguson has, Chelsea have, City have. It happens. At least it was a loan and not an expensive purchase with Sahin. We just need to find a way to get the best out what we have, which has happened over the last few weeks with Enrique prior to his injury and with Downing and Hendo. Borini certainly shouldn't be judged yet given his little settling and then playing time. Allen started well and then appreared to run out of puff which given he played most of the off season, has just moved to Liverpool FC, a potentially overwhelming experience in its own and has been nowhere near as bad as people are making out and he is still a kid. He looked good in that forward midfielder position when he came of the bench and was unlucky not to get his first. Lets give them time before we execute.

Ed001 in your opinion if we fail to get champions league will Suarez go?
RED100 {Ed001's Note - I don't think it is that simple. I think it is more going to depend on how we finish the season, what kind of players we bring in after the season and, of course, if anyone is willing to bid enough to even make us consider it. All in all, I would have to say that the likelihood of him leaving has lowered this season, if anything.}

Saw him at Ormskirk golf club last year, looked really healthy and happy. Unsure of his ties with the club at the moment, but would hope he is still involved in some capacity.

11 Jan 2013 17:47:40
We are getting half of the loan fee back for sahin ( 2.25 mill) and frees up some money for wages so all around good deal :-)

Ince and maybe another player in on loan

Great site nd keep up the good work

Liverpool are not getting half of the loan fee back. The agreement was the loan fee of 4 mill or thereabouts and Liverpool had to pay that. What they have done is saved on the remaining wages they would have to have paid him for the rest of the season which will now be paid by Dortmund.

11 Jan 2013 17:42:31
Can't believe I'm saying this but something inside of me is hoping for an El Niño return on a cut price deal!

I hate to admit it but i'd like to see him come here and score tons of goals, but mainly because it would make chelsea fans furious.

Red Rat

11 Jan 2013 18:24:12
Why??

He's well past his best, he'll fit right in.

AJH

I'm pretty sure that a cut-price deal will not be arranged. WE, ourselves will not be satisfied with a cut-price deal for Carroll whom we paid 35M. How would Roman, having paid 50? We move onwards and upwards, without looking back. We probably put Torres 'on the map'. So we should be looking to do the same with another player and move forward.

Keep seeing everywhere that Torres wants a return to liverpool? Any truth? If so what are the chances of getting him back? I'd love to see him come back home to be honest. Cheers. NathRed9

11 Jan 2013 17:41:24
Evening lads, what do you think the chances o Torres coming back?I should have him back in a shot no more then 15 million though. Great site {Ed019's Note - 0.36/10

11 Jan 2013 18:06:54
Ah come on Ed, it's gotta be at least 0.39/10.

- Something Red -

So there's a chance!?!

Ed019, you think the odds are 0.36 .really that high .i would say 0.00001 at best

0.36 .. that's fairly generous Ed19 ..
I would think the chances (for this January window) are around the 00/10)
Roy

11 Jan 2013 17:31:20
Do Liverpool get half of the £4.4M they paid for Sahins year long loan back from Real?

Logically they should, no? As Real are prematurely terminating a year long deal to sell him to another club.

-Luken {Ed019's Note - They save half}

Eds may correct me on this, but I don't think the £4.4m was paid up front, some was paid up front and the rest over installments, I would guess the installment payments will be cancelled .

Roy

11 Jan 2013 17:37:43
Because Real are terminating a year long deal to sell the player to a separate club. Liverpool are contracted to keep him until the summer.

Logically, Liverpool are entitled to get 50% of their money back.

Of course if Liverpool are driving the deal and just cutting losses, then that won't be the case, its simply a very poor bit of business.

I would guess it's more of a situation where we are cutting the loan short, not Real... I would doubt we get anything back from the 4.4M.

Aren't Real Loaning him to Dortmund?.. Not selling.

No, Because a deal was struck with Dortmund for him Liverpool will save some of the 4.4m . The way I read it, its a mutual agreement with all parties involved, so its not Livepool cancelling as such, its a re-arrangement.

Roy

11 Jan 2013 17:33:53
with the wages now saved from cole and sahin would torres on loan with view to buy in the summer appeal to anyone if he cuts it buy if not send him back we could do with the extra striker for me its a win win situation

mayhem 1981

Would rather spend that money on free pies for the Kop than give it to Torres....

11 Jan 2013 17:47:44
Liverpool need to stop wasting money and make some decent deals for f sake!

Why waste the wages we saved ?
derryred

11 Jan 2013 18:27:34
Why, in what possible way is it a win win??! He's washed up and finnished. I wish people would stop looking back and move forward, look to the future!!

Kev79

Thinking its win win as its only a loan with view to buy in our hands if he can get back to half the player he was we buy and have a player who can score at least 15 a season if not we don't buy this all said it does depend on price of the deal

mayhem 1981

11 Jan 2013 17:29:50
Hi Ed's

Been reading a few stories about Torres wishing he was back at Liverpool and also his wife saying he cries when he watches his games he played for us....

Whats that all about?

Surely that wouldnt happen him coming back? I'd have him back in a heartbeat for 10 - 15M....

I know its probably not gonna happen but it does seem the boy misses playing for us... And also he always said the truth never came out about him leaving LFC? Im wondering if he was also pushed because of the transfer fee we got for him? Although it is obvious he made it look like he wanted the move....

Would anyone have him back if he admitted he made a mistake leaving?

Seriously why would he have to say it was a mistake? Its business ffs grow up

I would love him back him and suarez up front with sturridge and sterling its a no brainer.

Irrelevant of the possibility of it happening I would take him back in a heartbeat for less than 20 mil. Gerrard made Torres once he can do it again. Torres is the tap in finisher we need to play with Suarez.

I just hope for his career he moves on from Chelsea. He should go back to Athletico Madrid. Eds is anyone interested in Torres? If he leaves Chelsea and regains some form he could be with Spain in Brazil.
Andrew

I'm just surprised that he doesn't cry looking at the way he plays for the plastics. He wanted a 'big' club but now I don't see how he will get one this summer. Only an average mid table club would buy him and that too if he cuts his wages short. one wrong decision and there you have it. Career ruined! Just sad.

Has Nuri Sahin joined Dortmund on loan or has he been permanently signed? {Ed019's Note - 1 1/2 year loan}

11 Jan 2013 17:21:55
Rumours flying about this afternoon about a certain Fernando Torres wanting to make a return to LFC. I personally don't believe this, but i just thought I'd share what I've heard

We have these rumours every transfer window since he left. Wait another 10 years and it will be that he is coming back as our manager.

We agree with all the liverpool fans that most of the man utd fans do visit your site but remember that its not because they are obsessed with u. they come here for the comedy and entertainment provided by the loserpool fans by arguing with other fans and criticizing there own team week in week out.

For example, consider me i visit your site every day after come back from my boring and tiresome work but going through the posts here puts a smile back on my face

Be it a post predicting the buy of a world class player
Criticising doglish or rodgers for there buys or
criticising the players

On behalf of all the man utd fans we thank you for the entertainment and pray to god that you keep it up

Goes to show how boring the man utd websites must be, they prob talking about how to make a good prawn sandwitch!

Yeah, how was your commute through Camden tonight?
All these United fans coming on here, probably never stepped foot in Manchester.

Your life must really suck. That the only good thing in your life is laughing at another football club. What no wife no kids? Honestly not surprised you are just a dirtbag anyway.

Yeah, I always thought that Man Utd fans lack the creativity to make even like minded people smile. You have to visit our page to get a smile.
That made me smile.
Now go on your page and don't tell us you are not obsessed

Watching you lot celebrating at Sunderland last season now that's comedy heh heh priceless!

The banner "you're next barca!" superb Manchester wit I do admire ironic self depracation!

Funny how the poster can come on here boasting about Man utd when they have the green and gold get the Glaziers out campaign and are £359.7m in debt.

I'd take a look on your own page lad, amazed to see all the comments where you all agree your midfield gets overrun every game, your defence and keeper are shocking but you all still give it the barry! Concentrate on your own team... If you can call RVP and fergie a "team"

I glad you have a boring and tiresome job as it sums up the club you support

You really define the term YOLO don't you?

'Enjoy yourselves watching it boys and girls, because you will be watching the greatest fixture in the football world, and it really depresses me to think I won't be joining you. The only pleasure I will get, will be seeing Hansen and Lawrenson's faces when they have to review it on MOTD.

By a Man UTd supporter and my frnd...

Respect they still treat us their best arch rivals...'

In response to this post left earlier, I don't think there is any respect between arch rivals any more. I'm lucky enough to have friends who support United who I can sit down with and have good conversations about football, but the majority of football fans I see now are brain dead, personic, single-minded trolls. I'm 24 years old, and my age group are more or less all people who can't think outside of insulting another team. It's a sorry state, especially when older family members tell me about the respect that used to exist between clubs. I don't go on other club rumour sites, but this one is a perfect example, and is a microcosm of football fans as a whole - childish simple minded fools who can't carry an argument that come on here just to take a dig at us simply for loving LFC. I really hope it changes, as I think a lot of fans ruin the game as a whole.

JFT 96

JP

Is it just football though?

I respect the team and manager but would happily insult them to their arrogant faces.

I don't necessarily agree with many aspects of the rivalry, but this goes beyond that and could be associated with a city vs city prejudice.

DaveyBootle

Yeah I suppose you're right Davey. The hatred I have to listen to is unreal. I live in Manchester, and the amount of abuse I've had thrown at me for wearing a Liverpool shirt in the pub watching a match is unbelievable. I just don't get it. Maybe it's just the people where I live, but going from this page it seems like a lot of simpletons have an inferiority complex, and channel it through football. Pretty damn sad to read.

JFT 96

I would highly recommend you don't watch motd if you want to see the highlights of how we played

United fan here in peace (yes really), I just wondered what your thoughts are on Brendan Rogers are so far?

I admire his guts to play youngsters and give them a chance however I don't think Allen and Borini were good signings (my opinion don't get irate) although I haven't seen much of Borini. Sturridge, if he learns to play for the team and not just himself I feel may well turn your season around.

Best wishes for the game, hopefully we see an end to end battle with passion but without the nastiness our two clubs have directed at each other before. I truly respect Liverpool and their past achievements I hate to say. But to be completely honest id much rather see an honest (I know, debateable ;)) side like yourselves do well than a team built on oil like the council house called city.

Rivalries like ours will always overrule any other rivalry no matter what position both teams are in the table. Which is one of the many reasons the EPL is the best league in the world.

420United

Personally I like Rodgers & believe he is going in the right direction as for joe Allen & borini they are good players with potential just need time that's all...
Paisley's genius

Glad to see a United fan that respects Liverpool as opposition and isn't writing us off like a lot of "supporters" seem to be doing on your banter page.

Although let's not start a debate on what is defined as an honest team (I'm assuming you're referring to last week's game against Mansfield?). May as well wait until the match to see if "Fergie Time" will make an appearance, or if Howard Webb will cause any controversy.

Gaining a lot of amusement from watching the loathsome plastics tear themselves into a major knicker-twist over agent Rafa, when the culprits are the players. They could have won by five the other evening but for the sort of individual errors we suffered early in the season, and hopefully now cut out.

Good feeling for Sunday even if we are playing twelve men with Fergie time.

EDS, i personally think lfc should have a look at the torres situation, chelsea fans clearly don't want him there, he has never really settled and now with demba ba there i can see him getting worse! his beat form ever was with us and i think with him suarez and sturridge that would get us competing for champions league football and maybe even the league! torres was great for us and i think could be once again!

11 Jan 2013 16:02:34
Torres is past it, get over it

Jesus! well will this end!! get over it and remember the good times...Torres is past his best..look to the future

Think you should all judge torres when he leaves chelsea before you say he's passed his best! there's not one person on this planet who can state that as a fact! ever since he went there he was living in drogbas shadow, his confidence has been knocked, its never going to work for him at chelsea...i honestly think he will be a quality player again once he leaves.

I can't believe some of you are sayin we'll be better off if we sell saurez and reina and rebuild! we are talking about Liverpool FC we should be building a team around these players and signing players of the same class!!
YNWA

Let's sell suarez for 40 mill, and we can buy some more young British talents. What's worrying me is that we seem to except that we can't compied with big clubs. And on the ather side you see spurs spending half of money we spend challenging for 3 place, propley some fans will say go support another club, some will disagree. But the truth is we are not were we should be, and we need to keep and add some players of suarez caliber to get where we belong

So effectively they are saying we should get rid of our best players and then have to buy replacements for those sold players or risk stagnating in those areas and still have to splurge money on the squad in other areas that still need upgrading.

Common sense tells me to keep hold of our best players and sell and replace the weaker ones with better players, that how I think rebuilding a squad works. Maybe I just don't get it.

Whats worrying is that you think a liverpool supporter posted it come on everyone wouldnt surprise me if it was jon champion people are always trying to unsettle us rise above it

Just had a quick peak at the United banter page, and most of their comments about this weekend's game were in the nature of an easy win for them against the "weakest" Liverpool team in years.

Seriously hoping we can do one over on these persons and prove them wrong!

Irish Red

Well hopefully the worlds greatest defender, Johnny Evans won't be playing, then we might stand a chance.

davethebutcher

You'll get more "agrees" than disagrees irish red- cos' the site is infested with jealous mancs and bitters, so tied up in liverpool fc that they look on here way more than their own grubby pages....

take it as a compliment :)

Same can be said about their team at present take away RVP and that team is shocking.

They are not too far wrong with their comment that this is the weakest Liverpool team in years. And unfortunately despite yet again being promised that we would bring players in to add to the group and excite the fans this window we have so far bought one and got rid of two. Lets just hope that with Cole and Sahin off the wage bill Brendan will be able to add one or two more quality players, Snieder and Turan for example, rather than championship quality young Brits, especially ones with egotistical fathers

Evans will have Suarez in his back pocket!

Patzi

Find it amazing how our weakest team in years dominate every game and manage to get more shots away than any other team in the league.

Torres left Liverpool to fast track success, like a number of players have done and regretted before - e.g., Owen, but in a way he did have success.
He won the Champions League.

But no disguising that since his injury, the last year at Liverpool and all his time at Chelsea he has been a shadow of a player.

We received over the odds when we sold him to Chelsea and we would surely pay over the odds were he to return.

His time at Liverpool is done.

He will move back to Spain, and play out the rest of his career there with mixed success. He will score goals again, but he'll never be the player that was so lethal the first few seasons he wore red.

Time for everyone to move on.

11 Jan 2013 14:22:07
Ridiculous, every player at Liverpool has a price however 40 million quid wouldn't even buy Suarez's left foot.

If Torres was worth £50m on his form at the time then we should be asking minimum £75m. We don't need to sell, we have him tied to a new long term contract and our aim is to achieve champions league, which of course a player of his standard would want to be in. However it is my firm belief that we have a much better chance of achieving that with him which in turn will hopefully ensure his happiness. We had money for Torres and wasted it, let's not take that risk again.

SideShowBob

Hi eds the first post was a reply to somebody suggesting suarez will be sold in the summer for 40million. Sorry for being fussy but i appear slightly unhindged starting a post with ridiculous.

Whats ths about Torres wanting to return to Liverpool. Do you think we will go in for him or has he ruined it by what he said when he left?

The only way Torres is signing for LFC is if our head scout gets a Tardis and goes back to A Madrid Torres just before he signed for us the first time.

All this talk about if he's burnt his bridges with the club and speculation over his desire to come back is irrelevant. He is simply not good enough anymore. And certainly not the right player for a fluid front 3.

For those stating Torres is shot...Granted he dosnt seem to be the player he was...but if he is regretting leaving LFC and he's not happy where he is maybe that has just as much to do with his poor form as anything else,
I wouldnt say he's shot id say he's at the wrong club, sometimes going home even if its your adopted home can bring a massive turnaround in fortunes,
Im not saying were getting him or even in for him either, its just purely an observation,
i rated him while he was here and i wouldnt turn him down for the right price.

Thats what happens when you go to a soulless club, a bit like Man City, mostly glory hunters and plastic fans. Few teams around are what i lable proper football clubs, thankfully LFC is and always has been one of them

I remeber Ed01 or Ed02 making an interesting comment at the time he was sold. Something about him distancing hinself from the rest of the team and falling out with Gerrard. Cant quite remeber all the details but I think Ed01 put a bit of the blame on Gerrard (might be wrong). BR probably wouldnt want that kind of disharmony in the camp, rightly so, If he has fell out with Gerrard its not good to bring him back.

I agree with you, use Pienaar as an example. When he left Tottenham and went back to the Whiney Blues his game improved when he felt at home.

People say what ever about Fernando Torres and yh I agree it was disgraceful how he left Liverpool but I think we need to face facts when he wears a Liverpool shirt he is one of deadliest strikers in the world so I tbh would like to see him back at Liverpool front 3 of Suarez sturrage or sterling and Torres I think that would be a wicked front line yh Liverpool fans including me would be against him but when he starts scoring goals which he would people will soon change their feelings fact!! What does everyone think !!

Are you insane? Torres turned his back on us when things got tough, looked like a sulky teenager for the last 18 months with us, has struggled to score goals for the past 2 years and has lost a yard of pace. If he cost £10 it would be too much. Hope he stays at that bunch of soulless money grabbers Chelsea.

PompeyRed

He left because we had no ambition - well - do we have ambition?

11 Jan 2013 15:10:17
that money grabbers won the CL last season..and are on course to win the title year in and year out...
dono..why and how people criticize other fans here..

is ut becoz frustuation that LFC haven't won the title in last 23 years??

Torres left the club - it was a mistake on his part but he's got a CL winner's medal out of it. We've moved on - he won't be coming back; it would be nice for all of us, especially the Eds I'd imagine if this could stop being brought up. Fernando Torres will not play for Liverpool again!

Belfast Pete.

Absolutely gutted. Called into work all weekend due to a few minor disagreements over here at the moment in this benighted isle of ours.

Special permission from the big boss to wear my United scarf with my uniform - not exactly regulation, but what the hell.

I'll be thinking of you all in the ground, at home and in pubs up and down the country, and around the world, getting the chance to watch the greatest club in the world take on our oldest rivals.

We may have City, and we may have Chelsea, both more important in terms of competition, but this is the one.

The one that I always look for first on the new fixture list at the start of every season. The one that I start talking with my mates incessantly about two or three weeks beforehand. The one that gives us the chance to stick it to our oldest and most detested rivals. The one that stirs my soul and makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

This is United v Liverpool.

I know they raise their game against us. I know this is their cup final. It may well be tight. But if we can't beat this sorry excuse for a football team, a sad parody of former great Liverpool teams, even with a sub-standard United team compared to days of old, then we have serious work to do.

Enjoy yourselves watching it boys and girls, because you will be watching the greatest fixture in the football world, and it really depresses me to think I won't be joining you. The only pleasure I will get, will be seeing Hansen and Lawrenson's faces when they have to review it on MOTD.

By a Man UTd supporter and my frnd...

Respect they still treat us their best arch rivals...

If we had your financial clout we'd be singing off the same hymn sheet....

Our kids against Moneybags United..

11 Jan 2013 13:37:52
Not one mention of Everton.

Still the first fixtures I look for are the Merseyside Derbies.

Your not the greatest club in the world either. i would love to know what makes you think you are LOL

Yeh cuz you haent spent 20m on herderson, 25m on saurez, 20m on downing, 10m on borini, 12m on sturridge, 15 on allen etc over last 2 seasons lol wot s silly statment
Chris the REDman

Thats right moneybags Utd all generated through club revenues, no sugar daddy involved.

You lot are praying for a sugar daddy as you slip further down the table.

Eigth is over achieving with your squad.

NINETEEN

We can't afford £200,000 a week wages like yourselves though can we.

We don't give in an give whingers (Rooney) £250,000 a week or whatever he's on.

Not LONG now until Fergie retires!

Then we'll see the decline and Half empty Old Trafford from the 80s Again!!

Moneybags United Redman, a label you've had for a loooooong time...

Chris the REDman, why don't you stop trolling like a little pre-pubescent schoolboy, actually grow up and talk to United fans, instead of sitting at your desk, sweating with excitement at the fact you're making boring remarks about Liverpool? It really is quite pathetic mate.

JFT 96

JP

Chris the REDman - pretty sure they've invested over £200m on new players in recent years! Mindblowing figure, I know things are expensive these days but even I could put together a top 4 team with that level of investment

Gav

Never mind the money, it's always good to have a few refs in your back pocket and influences in the FA

Exactly Ninteen.....you won nothing before the riches of the Premier league....

Check your history pal, you've always had rich owners !

Well said Plymouth Red, these United fans need to go back to their own site and read up on their history ! They might learn something.

Chelsea and City may be instant spenders but United have done it for the last 20 years, Fergie won nothing until he got his claws onto the riches of the Premier league. Lets not forget, 25 years without league title pre 93 !!

I should think to him lubes are a distant dream!!

Lyndon

Truly showing you colours, "best fans in the world" bunch of footballing persons really. Always had rich owners......what the Edwrds family??

Pure jealousy, Utd is bigger in every respect and the revenues we generate are in your small clubs wildest dreams.

Always in our shadow.......espceially on sunday.

No history!!!!!!! Truly mornic posts, first british club to win the european cup and pioneers of british clubs in europe.

History is all you have you no marks. Enjoy mid table, always looking down on your small club. {Ed002's Note - Celtic were the first British club to win teh European Cup.}

All liverpool can hold onto is history

11 Jan 2013 12:58:13
Eds do you think sturridge will start sunday? {Ed002's Note - Perhaps. I haven't decided yet.}

Nice one Ed002.

11 Jan 2013 12:42:40
Torres to make a return? Would take him back for 12m and wage cut.

11 Jan 2013 12:35:04
Torres fell out with die hard chelsea players for saying he wants liverpool return. would you accept him back?

Id have him back in a heartbeat.he made a mistake going to chelsea but he could put that right back in a red shirt....where he belongs

Are sis at melwood for this

11 Jan 2013 12:28:21
this is taken from an article in the daily mail about torres, and sounds about right to me ...

" In training, he appears disinterested and his team-mates have lost count of the number of times he has told them he wishes he was back at Liverpool. Some of the Chelsea players wish he was."

i`d have him back, i just wonder whether the owners or brendan would

lfc pete

See comments on Shankly below.
Torres is done.
I know the front line can be inter-changeable, but for me its Sturridge through middle, Suarez free and buzzing where he likes, Sterling one flank and Glen Johno on the other bombing forward. Gerrard making runs when he sees it on.
That would be more like it.
The Juicer

Oh well, if it's in the Daily Mail, it must be true...

A psycologically challenged attention seeking marajuana smoking hobo known for making up stories would be a more reliable source than the Daily Fail {Ed002's Note - I have never considered myself attention seeking.}

11 Jan 2013 12:21:07
Is borini in consideration for Sunday or is it a week too early EDs? {Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

11 Jan 2013 11:34:30
We should try 4 zaha, and in makin it easier offer them assaidi, and downing 1 on loan and another, in part exange, they wudont think twice, 1 think I like its gettin a player under fergie nose, the same way we did wif Suarez.

Major issue is Zaha wants to win titles and play in the champions league................and your never going to do either.

11 Jan 2013 11:32:09
Just a quick one for Ed001, I saw the post you made about Zaha and I thought it made a lot of sense. Have you seen Ince enough to make a comment on him whether he would be a good addition to the squad or not?

Rob {Ed001's Note - I have watched him a lot, also read a couple of scouting reports on him from a number of scouts, all of us agreed that he has ability but does not apply it correctly. The only thing we disagreed on was some thought he could be channeled into being a quality player, myself and a couple of the others disagreed. I just don't see what he offers over and above the likes of Sterling and Ibe, except he is a few years older than they are.}

Ed001 are you a scout?

Plymouth Red. {Ed001's Note - no mate, I just used to be very friendly with a couple of scouts and one let me have a peep at a selection of scouting reports when he was trying to explain something.}

Apart from goals of course ed? {Ed001's Note - but he doesn't score many, especially not for the price he would cost. Ince is a better player and scores more and creates more, Zaha is simply not as good.}

11 Jan 2013 11:27:00
Hi all1st time post was just wondering why there are so many kenny haters on here, surely he deserves an ambassador role with us he has always done his best for the club and helped carry it thru its darkest days, I know it didn`t turn out for him 2nd time as manager (tho 2 cup finals in 1 full season isn`t exactly a disaster) I just believe he deserves a lot more respect for 35 yrs service than he`s being shown on here.
bootle boy

Please god they don't bring KD back, time to move on from the whole kenny thing, can't see how he would be good for the club (it was embarrassing watching him being interviewed last season, everybody else's fault but his), the only one's who will be happy about it will be all the fans who are still stuck in the 80's who want BR out and kenny back!
JJ

I watched about 6 hours of Liverpool docs last night including one from 87/88 simply called Kenny, from Granada I think. It just reminded me how exceptional Kenny was and how much we owe him for the "glory" years. Surely the we owe him a debt of gratitude and respect. Fair enough it didn't work out last year but at least someone of his stature and passion for the club deserves to be a part of the "new way". sorry for the quotation marks. I'm a bit anal.

Fred

11 Jan 2013 17:35:24
Edwards started it pal, he sanctioned the purchase of Pallister, Ince, phealan, Webb and Wallace, all in the 92 season, for huge fees and salaries, he new the serious money was coming in from the New Premier League. You've bank rolled on players ever since

Mega funds were made available to build your 75,000 stadia and United have floated on the stock market twice.

Most teams have been in United's shadow due to your spending power since 93 and now your all up in arms now City can out spend you.

Like I said, go back to your sight and check your history

Moneybags United has been and is still the label...

11 Jan 2013 11:26:49
Macca said Ince will be closer to 5 Mill. Will that be before or after the 35% sell on fee is deducted?

I'm not sure it works like that. Clearly, we're not going to get 35% of a transfer we pay.

As I understand it, we just use that as a bargaining chip to negotiate a deal with Blackpool - they know that if they get an offer from another team then 35% of it goes to us.

11 Jan 2013 15:53:48
hopefully after. he ain't worth £7.75m or there abouts, if Macca says when rather than if that's good enough for me. sturridge and ince will be good for the team and im glad we are strengthening where we need to

for 3.5 million we'd be fools not to go for moussa sissoko. Just what our midfield needs, bit of strength, power, height, someone to pick up second balls. lack of thrust sometimes, must buy!

Sissoko looked like he was going to be a great player 2 seasons ago then his form dropped badly and he has never looked as good since

Wy don't we go for HONDA instead of snaichder, they are both similar player, plus Honda will help us from the Asian markit, and wudve been cheaper on salaries.

I would rather have Honda than Ajax's Erickson! He is a World class footballer!

11 Jan 2013 11:13:53
ed's will this statement on the LFC site make any difference to future transfer's and do you know what they were paid in the settlement.

In October 2010, Liverpool Football Club and Athletic Grounds Limited ("Liverpool FC") was sold to the Fenway Sports Group.

As a consequence of that sale, Thomas Hicks and George Gillett (being the former owners of Liverpool FC) made a number of allegations and claims against Sir Martin Broughton, Christian Purslow and Ian Ayre (being the company directors responsible for the sale of Liverpool FC to the Fenway Sports Group). Those allegations and claims were denied by Messrs Broughton, Purslow and Ayre.

The allegations, claims and denials resulted in legal proceedings being commenced.

The parties have now agreed a settlement (the terms of which are confidential). All claims and allegations made against Messrs Broughton, Purslow and Ayre have been withdrawn by Messrs Hicks and Gillett and all legal proceedings between the parties concluded.

The parties will not be making any further statement to the press. {Ed001's Note - I will leave a copy of this post for Ed002, in case he can add something, or myself if I can find some details out later, to reply to later as I have nothing right now.}

11 Jan 2013 17:40:05
Disgusts me that they get anything out of us, tbh.

Also, whilst I'm 90% sure the club just didn't want any more legal BS and settled for a fraction of what they wanted, there's just a little part of me wondering was there some impropriety that FSG didn't want to see the inside of a courtroom.

ED001, who does this kid Rossiter play for? {Ed001's Note - Liverpool.}

11 Jan 2013 10:52:35
Ed001
I read your comments about the ruthless footballing decisions of Bob Paisley. I agree, he very much was.
I know Sir Bob was a very reluctant recipient of the Liverpool job after Shanks left, and I know the decision to tell Shankly to stay away was done to protect Paisley's authority.
Shankly was later invited back into an arms-length relationship with the club, but never an official position. Do you not think that was a mistake ?

I suppose, at the time, there wasn't the media and commercial hype that there is now and that "ambassador" role would not have the profile. I couldn't have imagined Shankly getting repressing himself from getting involved with the playing side at some level. But maybe he should have overseen the kids, gave life talks to them, showed new people round, a face for the press and sponsors etc.
It was a terrible waste of the man's energy and passion for LFC to have kept him away.
I mean, we never suffered - the reserves constantly won the Central League (dominated more than the 1st team actually) for all that, but I still think that episode sits uneasily on the club's history.

Do you think Dalglish should be brought back at the minute ?
Cheers
The Juicer {Ed001's Note - there wasn't a role for Shanks, not one he would take, he was an all or nothing man. The mistake was him quitting, he knew it too. As for Dalglish, that is up to him. I am not sure the fans deserve a legend like him, not after the shameful treatment he was given as manager this time round. That man has done more for the club and its fans than anyone else, yet fickle fans couldn't even show him respect! He deserves far better than that.}

Well said Ed. I met him at Goodison after he retired and your suggestion that he went too soon was obvious from his body language and the way he spoke. It was very sad, but just one of those things. He should have been made a Director after a year or so. He felt more welcome at Goodison than he did at Anfield, but that was his interpretation of events. I don't think he was, it just seemed that way to him.
I don't think Kenny has been treated well, by club or some 'fans', but he should be involved in the club; he is the soul of the club. He should be made a Director without any more delay. There is no one more deserving of this than he is. What he did after Hillsborough was outstanding and heartrending; he is a legend among legends, and should be treated as such by the club.

ND

Ed001, fantastic lad. Well said. Theres a few so called Reds on here who need to have a long hard look at themselves after some of there coments about KD!

Waro

Well said ed001 couldn't have put it better myself.
Eam

ED. I believe the divide of opinions for King Kenny is generally - younger fans are fickle and won't wait for success - but older fans have seen lots of success and love King Kenny for his part played in the club as player, manager, hillsborough tradegy, manager again to bring back the good feeling. I will admit I cried when Kenny was sacked by FSG but for his own health and stress-free life it was the best option. He will ALWAYS be a legend and I hope the club has learned it's lesson the way Bill Shankly was treated. aklfc {Ed002's Note - You cannot take away what Dalglish has done for the club and I think all fans appreciate that regardless of age. The issue surrounded giving him the manager's job on a full time basis.}

Did you ever hear anything about that non-handshake after the cup final ?

Reports in Spain claim Manchester United target Leo Baptistao is poised to join Atletico Madrid from Rayo Vallecano. United had been linked with a move for Baptistao after chief scout Martin Ferguson watched him in action. However, Atletico have moved in to tie up a deal for the Brazilian forward.

Hey ed001, really good to have you back on a regular basis :)

You mentioned earlier that Liverpool might be looking for another forward of a more direct type than Suarez, can you clarify what you mean by that - someone in the mould of new boy Sturrige, or a more classic 9?
And if it isn't a bother, are you willing to speculate with some available names?

Cheers,
Drigan {Ed001's Note - the kind of player that just drives at goal every opportunity, I guess that would be seen as a classic number 9. I mean we are looking for someone who doesn't pull wide and drift about the pitch as much as our current forwards. Someone who operates within the width of the 18 yard box and the only thought is to get in there and score. That is why we looked at Llorente, but the price was ridiculous for a player with an expiring contract. I am not sure who else we are looking at as an alternative, I am pretty sure it is not Negredo though. And thank you, it is nice to have the chance to get on here more.}

I'd have actually fancied Walcott there. with his pace and suarez' craft. what i like about sturridge is that he has got the arrogance to go for it. i think he can get goals. at long last - AT LONG LAST - we have pace up front all round. you would think it was micro-physics for all the pfaffing around liverpool have done in the last few years.

We have a 'fox in the box' called Fabio Borini.

11 Jan 2013 09:36:53
As we all know, massive game on Sunday....For last few seasons I've been really anxious when we score first, especially under Hodgson when we used to retreat to defending the 18 yard box.

However, I really feel if we keep United out for the first 20 mins, then score first, we can really hurt them on the break. They are leaking goals big time...

I really feel we have a chance getting a result, especially if we can keep Van Persie quiet and Gerrard has a good game. Our youngsters can defeat the United Money Machine, though we will need to be on top of our game

Come on Red Men !!

luis suarez..lucas leiva..should play their game of the season....
suarez should score...provided..sterling and sturridge constatntly support him...he will make something from absolute nothing...

but for me lucas...is the player..
without rooney..kagawa will play behind RVp and they will play 4-2-3-1 formation...

lucas need to put kagawa in his pocket and release gerrard to ripp michel carrick and show him why is steven gerrard called the bets midfielder of this generation..

ED01 or 02?

I know ED 01 has faith in Rodgers but surely FSG must have some alternatiive plan if we continue to drop points and fall further behind our rivals. I think Rodgers has been exposed(I know many will disagree) but I think it is clear he is way out of his depth.

So EDs is it likely FSG will have had conversations with alternatives? {Ed001's Note - they will have a plan in place, if things are not going according to that plan, then alternatives will be pursued. Not right now though.}

Please detail why you think he is "out of his depth" .. that's a big and wide ranging accusation without backing it up.

Terry Mac Fan Club

Thankyou for your reply much apprieciated as always PS still hope Honda arrives some day and makes your year!

I think it will be a joke if Rodgers gets the sack because he has brought the best out of a lot of players and i see no better alternative for our circumstances.

11 Jan 2013 09:20:30
Hi Eds,
I myself said we should be looking for realistic and motivated targets as opposed to world class / expensive overpayment etc. and please don´t shoot me down here but the Daily Mail has reported (Yes, the Mail) that Torres keeps telling his teammates he´d rather be back at Liverpool. Apparently his last performance for Chelsea got the crowd jeering and taunting him. Is there any way, any hope that we could get him? On loan perhaps? I know we have signed Sturridge who I think will prove to be a good signing but considering our main problem is the lack of goals, would a move for Torres not perhaps mean the ultimate support for Suarez and Sturridge? Thanks in advance! Germanred {Ed001's Note - how would a misfiring striker help us to score goals??}

11 Jan 2013 08:57:33
See the article on Torres in the Daily Mail today, might just be me but i would love to see him back, linking up with gerrard and up there with Luis and either Sturridge or Raheem. Be a dream. Can't see it happening. Any of the Ed's LIKE it to happen or do you think it would be a bad move? {Ed001's Note - I can't imagine anything worse, he is awful now.}

Posted something similar earlier on but re-read the article and the comments and one of them made me think: His return (risky business anyway as there is simply no telling whether he will improve) would send the wrong message to the youngsters who are working their backsides off with BR´s policy of promoting the youth / younger players. Also, how can you possibly determine what he is worth now? Based on the last 2 years he shouldn´t be worth more than 10 million. And to base the price on what he used to be able to do could backfire massively if he never manages to regain his mojo.

Torres 2007, 2008, 2009 early 2010 maybe Torres now no eay

Give your head a Shake!

He's Shot!

Lyndon

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to have him back, my heart says yes/head no. One things for sure, I don't think he'd be mis-firing for long if he came back. His problems all stem from the fact that he's playing for a horrible club in front of horrible fans.

Hi Eds, doing a great job, as usual!

Borini gets into scoring positions, makes clever runs and will be better now his foot injury is healed!
Sturridge will be the buy of the season. He is fast, dribbles and is cocky! 3 necessary qualities for a striker. He's only 23, England international, so at 12M, a bargain. Sunday we will see!
Assaidi must be given more of a chance, Please! It's been ages since LFC had a few dribblers in the team! Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling, (Downing, at times) Suso and Assaidi!
Future is bright and after sunday it may be even brighter. I'm so glad so called experts have written us off, all the more joyful when we prove them wrong!
The point of my post? Don't lose faith fellow fans, we will prosper!
p.s. was peeved to find out we could've had Michu in the summer but was pipped by...Swansea!

Replace Downing and Sahin with Turan and Sneijder.

Turan with Sahin and Gamiero with Downing.

11 Jan 2013 02:10:04
If Sahin does leave then bring Sneijder or even Turan would be a good move as we would need another midfield player. Either of these guys would be a good bit a business. Especially Turan as I have always said he would be a great player for us, especially bring a supporter of the club.

11 Jan 2013 02:07:07
eds, there is a kid called 'Rossiter' coming off the bench in last match of nextgen series. do you know anything on him? {Ed001's Note - all I know is that he is expected to be the next big thing. I have been told loads about how great he is, but I can't remember ever seeing him play. I don't know if I have just been unlucky enough to catch only games he hasn't played in, but I am still waiting for my chance to catch a glimpse of him. He is captain of the U16s, so might just not have made the step up to the higher levels, were I could have seen him, until now. The buzz around him reminds me of the one around Gerrard, Owen, Fowler as they emerged. It is that same, this kid is going to be a star, the complete confidence he will not just make it, but make it big.}

What position does he play? {Ed001's Note - midfield, hence why God described him as a new Stevie G.}

Thanks ed001. hope you will have a chance to see him playing soon and then give us more opinion on him.

He played for a few minutes in next gen game. Made a good pass and has rosy cheeks. It would be brilliant if he makes the squad. What a lucky lad, Fowler reckons he could be "the one" aklfc

Hi Ed Is he a local lad or did we get him from another club keep up the good work. {Ed001's Note - I don't know actually. I don't remember him being brought in from elsewhere, but at that age group it is difficult to keep track.}

11 Jan 2013 02:02:28
Hi Eds. This is mainly for those of you who actually support Liverpool, but I for one am enjoying watching Liverpool play just now and, although it is extremely frustrating when we are having all the possession but none of the goals, I feel BR is doing an good (interesting) job.

Anyway, if we don't make top four or even top six do you think BR will be sacked? I'm only asking as I do NOT want to end up like Chelsea and ridding managers every season.

apart from that, happy Friday!!

danny b {Ed001's Note - I think he will get a chance to start next season too.}

Just a quick update!

Fabio Borini is definately my new man crush, long awaited since Torres

Cannot wait for him to be back from injury and be strutting his stuff infront of the Kop

Why not Flanno?

How can anyone disagree with this? Strutting his stuff? Man crush? I like where your head's at... Haha.

Thanks for your quick update. There are special sites out there for you..

Haha! Still laughing about poor young Flanno.

11 Jan 2013 01:15:07
Surely John Henry would be urging BR to try and get Altidore who is having a great year at AZ. Young and scoring and assisting goals in a pretty ordinary team and would be FSG's American poster boy as a promo tool as he'll no doubt play in the next World Cup for Team USA.

I've watch him for years in the US and with the US national team. Altidore does not have the work rate to fit BR system. Having said that, he does have a good scoring record. Just doesn't fit.

He flopped at Hull {Ed002's Note - Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina have enquired after Altidore but a move in January seems unlikely at this point in time.}

Yes I would love for lfc to sign some big players BUT I would be happy if we sign some bargain buys I.e assaidi for 3m and cheap buys potentially finding the next Michu!

Fernando Aristeguieta - 20 yrs old
well I have seen this st name on here and he seems good from the stats and clips I have seen . He is a tall st was playing for a Venezualen team Cacaras and scored 14 goals in 17 apps a excellent record especially for a 20yr old. But recently signed for Ligue 2 team Nantes so if he has a good season ther I think we should consider him.

Leo Baptisao - 20 y/o - Rayo V
A young brazillian cf got 6goals and 6assits so far in La Liga in 17 apps. A guy with great potential would be a good signing

Iago Aspas - 25 - Celta Vigo
A pacey striker scored over 20 goals last season in the spanish 2nd division. So far 8-goals 2-assists in 18 apps in la liga

These guys look to have some talent especially the latter two as they a proving themselves in La Liga!
Would be some great bit of business.

What you think?

Now LFC has revamped its scouting team with scouts from Mancity and other new scouts, i am hoping that we will start to find new young players . But tbh if we looked at Michu record for last few seasons, we would have snapped him up !
BR has been changing and bringing in a lot of backroom talent to help LFC move forward !
YNWA

I doubt the man city scouts we got are any good. They buy the best players as they see fit. Not hard to scout a player when every man and there dog know they are good

i hope butland doesn't move to us in january, all the hype around butland is ridiculous he isn't that great he's already conceded 48 goals in 26 games(4 clean sheets)....its another scott loach scenario of a young keeper being rated to quickly and having rumours fly about because of one good game.
in other news i hope we sign ince and ismat-mirin/de vrij and if there was any chance of Pjanic from Roma coming to liverpool(maybe in the summer unless any of the eds know any different), classy playmaker, maybe JWH can talk to his pal the Roma owner(and NESV member) and get it done.

Snafu

Ps. also want to see downing and sahin(hasn't been that good tbf) leave but that would be too perfect.

Ed001, what is your honest opinion of borini? I accept that he is young and was perhaps played out of position, but is he really that good? Also how highly do you rate both shelvey and Henderson? Cheers.
RedJohn {Ed001's Note - I think Borini has a lot to prove, but I have not seen enough of him to judge him. He certainly can't be faulted for effort, I just want to see him given the time to find his feet. Some players take longer than others, goalscorers often have lean spells before they start scoring regularly in a difficult league.
Shelvey was looking like a good prospect, up until he was sent off against United. Since then, I have to say he looks like he is playing with his boots on the wrong feet a lot of the time. He seems to be trying too hard to impress, probably trying to make up for lost time and ensure his place. It is up to him to calm himself down, and then work on his passing, it has become wayward. Right now though, I don't see what he offers over say Suso or Adorjan in the position behind the striker.
Henderson has a good engine, he is constantly working to get back and help out, forcing opponents into mistakes. His passing and vision is decent, not top class, but decent, it could do with some work, but there is talent there. My main worry with him is that, while he does chase back well and often forces the ball to be given away or passed into less threatening areas, he doesn't seem to have the fire to get stuck in and win it back if needed. You don't need to be Souness to do that, Xavi does it regularly, despite being far from a bruiser. I would like to see Henderson add a bit of that fire, it would transform his game I think.}

I don't know if fire to get stuck in is what Hendo's really lacking. IMO its more self belief and confidence to try something daring. It would be perfect if we could somehow take Jonjo's personality and merge it with Hendo's technical ability. We'll see if his confidence can continue grow under Rodgers and hopefully his performances will continue to improve with that.

I really don't see him as out long term AM either, like some fans do. He's done well there by offering what Jonjo didn't, keeping possession and effective pressing higher up the pitch, but he really lacks the awareness and creativity to play that role. I think his best position is as a box to box CM and possibly as DM, although that's not very likely IMO. {Ed001's Note - do you not think that fire would cover any dips in confidence? At least then he would get stuck in and that raises the crowd, which then gives the player a boost.}
