BR got his substitutions wrong tonight. Hendo and Downing were contributing. As soon as subs were made we lost our shape and potency.

What exactly does Borini bring to the table anyway.

My one reckons Borini has improved the team photo. :- (

The only league in England that Borini has performed is the championship FACT! he couldn't cut it at chelsea or roma and won't cut it here, why he was brought on is beyond me, the boy is useless!

11 Feb 2013 23:34:20
Where is the improvement? Knocked out of carling cup at home to Swansea. Embarrassed in the FA cup by Oldham. Not beaten a team above us in the league. We are not becoming a mid table team. We are a mid table team!

11 Feb 2013 23:31:10
WBA 3 shots on target 2 goals says it all
where is our defence? all back 4 should be changed next season leaking to many goals
as for BR each time he says we can get to top 4 we lose the game
where is the dream we have been after?
we will be lucky to finish in top 10 at best

What you on about where is our back 4, they only had 3 shots in 90 mins, one of which was from range, one was from a corner, the only one you can really call at fault was the Lukaku goal late on, seriously! persons like you clearly know nothing about football

11 Feb 2013 23:29:29
Here come the Rodgers out brigade even though improvement is there for all to see yep just slag off the team, I see Waro is out tonight too. some things never change.

AsianRed

Wheres the improvement? where out of every domestic cup, where nearly 30 points off the top and well be lucky to finish 8th. i'm not saying rodgers out, but call it as you see it, where a solid mid table club, and let's be honest, if we did get CL, wed get murdered by Europe's elite.

At least someone agrees with me.
LS7.

What Improvement?

11 Feb 2013 23:28:39
Gerrard needs to score that, we have to finish our chance. I like our team better with johnson on the left and wisdom on the right. No excuses tonight. We should have won that, we needed those. Feel really let down by the team. 2 great games without the proper reward and then that. I'm hoping for 5th and a good run in the Europa league. Just really disappointed with tonight's performance.

11 Feb 2013 23:27:55
not good tonight. I am a fan of br, but I feel he got the team selection wrong tonight. shelvey ain't up to it, i'm afraid. too languid and in any case is better in a deeper role. hendo on the left concerns me. he's a central mid and shows good form there. what I can't fathom is when we have borini, coutinho and sterling on the bench, why play hendo on the left side, so unbalanced tonight. I personally would have had hendo instead of shelvey and playin a bit deeper alongside stevie with lucas behind. borini/coutinho/sterling alongside suarez and downing would have given us a lot more balance. suarez needed to stay against the two cb's and get into the box more.

bren had to wait till the window to get two additional forwards in and also to get borini back to fitness and then not to play any of those, of which I know only two were available, I just don't get.

however on a positive note we had played well recently in the league and by enlarge, we continually outplay teams. we perhaps deserve more points than we are gettin. therefore looking objectively at it, we have a relatively young side, all our recent signings are young and the team and results can only improve. we need to remember that we are in transition, and improvements will come as time passes due to our youth maturing.

fourth is gone. top six is now realistic and should we get it will represent an improvement on last year. considering the turnover of players, getting rid of overpaid, old squad players, and replacing with youth on reasonable wages will create a turbulent season, until things settle and bed in. anyone talking of br's sacking needs their head examined. we are playing the best football in more than a decade (apart from kenny's time) and in time, the way we play, will eventually bear fruit as our "battering" of teams, will get rewarded with more points, once we get more mature and clinical.

Lot of wild criticism going around tonight, a lot of reactionary stuff as always. We played very well in our last 2 games and were very buoyant about challenging for CL places - we under performed tonight and now we are the worst team ever. The reality is probably somewhere in between the spectrum of those two reactions.

We created a lot of chances tonight and actually played well up until the missed penalty. That seemed to knock our confidence and give WBA a boost and they capatalised. Very strange game and I think one we should never of lost but occasionally it happens in football. The hype about us making the CL place was just that - it's obvious we ain't quite good enough to challenge for that yet, especially given the sides ahead of us. I've confidence in the team though and think we will get better - we'll play worse and win games in future.

A few players were lacklustre today - Enrique and Johnson both failed to impress and Shelvey was very poor, don't think he is a false number. 9 despite Rodgers trying to play him as such. Think it's obvious as well that Gerrard struggles to maintain his performance for the full 90 minutes - was brilliant for 70 an then faded badly, needs to be used a little more intermitently in my opinion.

All in all good performance, should of won but sadly didn't - the penalty the crux of the game.

SMc

p. s. personally didn't think it was a penalty, thought Suarez went down a little easily but certainly wasn't complaining about it!

11 Feb 2013 23:05:02
It truelly amazes me the amount of moaning and complaining on this site we had 20 shots 20! and yet we got done on a corner and on the break anyone would think we were second best throughout the match judging by the venom every time we don't get a result I really am ashamed to call myself a Liverpool fan when I come on here and read Gerrard is terrible sack Rodgers if it was upto most of you we'd of got rid of the entire team in January and bought a new one entirely I will support my team no matter what through good and bad and yeah sometimes I have my doubts about specific players or formation or whatever but I am never going to lower myself to the degree of some of the so called Liverpool fans on this website get a grip and support the team and stop being bloody cry babies

I think people would actually prefer to be second best throughout.

we're always getting beaten when we 'dont deserve to lose'

If we gave it 100% yet came out clear losers at 2-0 i'd understand. but the lack of commitment and heart is just awful to watch

11 Feb 2013 23:04:48
Thought Henderson and Downing didn't deserve to be subbed, Shelvey, Johnson and Enrique were all very poor.
Said a few weeks ago Shelvey is very one paced; he can't get away from anyone.
Enrique is infuriating when he's not on his game.
Rodgers never changed the shape of the side, which obviously wasn't working.
Thought he should have took Shelvey and Enrique off early in the 2nd half and brought Skyrtel on to go 3 at the back and Sterling for an extra man upfront.
Point being Skrytel is an extra header of the ball at the back and also an extra man when we have a corner or free kick.
You just felt the longer the game went the more likely we were to fall for a succer punch! Especially from a free kick or a corner.
Anyway we have to keep supporting and living in hope we get it right consistently sooner rather than later.

"We come not to play".
No truer a statement by Liverpool players - nobody turned up tonight.
Should we bring Rafa back if faith in Rogers is lost? If not, who do we turn to now or what do we do?
Have to agree with some on here, I really wish Rogers, Gerrard & others would stop sayin we're going to do this or that & just take things one game at a time! I cringe when I read their interviews sometimes.
The other players can't handle that pressure it seems, Gerrard included - he missed the penalty after all.

No body turned up?! Did you watch the match?!

Gerrard can't handle pressure? What do you call carrying a team for 10 years?

I want Rodgers to stay but if he gets dismissed I'd like to see Borrell given a go.

Plymouth Red.

The fact you just said Gerrard can't handle the pressure shows how little you know about this club over the last 7-8 years. He is one man he can't keep dragging us through the s**t and coming out clean. The so called fans like you make me angry, I will keep my swear words in so this actually gets posted and the bell end that wrote it can see what a "REAL" supporter thinks

12 Feb 2013 17:04:13
To the "real" supporter.
First of all, nice touch with the name calling, showing your age there supporting us since 2005 when you turned two years old is it?!
What I the OP was trying to say or get across was that all Steve Gerrard had to do was score from 12 yards last night - hardly dragging us outta the mud. Did he win the penalty? Was it his Messi like slalom run that got us the spot kick in the first place? No. Did he even play well? No. So tell me how he drags us outta the mud like you suggest all of the time. In fact, tell me the last time he did it successfully. How many years ago was it? I never set out to have a go at him, I'm still not having a go at him. I just wish he'd shut up in the press & do his talking on the pitch. Now I'm off back to being a fake fan I guess. Take care "real" fan, hope your dummy is firmly back in your mouth now.

11 Feb 2013 22:57:10
I know hindsight is a beautiful thing, but had the penalty not been awarded I think it may have been a different outcome.

Foster was always going to save the penalty as he was on fire tonight. After that we all knew west brom who would go on and win.

We missed sturridge tonight.

Grant.

11 Feb 2013 23:21:51
Wait so what you guys are saying is because we lost to West Brom we are a bad team? United lost to Norwich does that make them a bad team? City lost to Southampton does that make them a bad team? Chelsea lost to West Brom too, but are still a great team. Barcelona also lost to Celtic does that mean they're a bad team? No it doesn't. It means they had a bad game, not a terrible season. But what do they do? They get on with it and focus on the next game. Everyone has their off-days and unfortunately for us this was one. I'd be worried if we were bad on a consistent basis, but we are playing the best football in the league! So just sit back, relax, and enjoy the football we are playing, with Rodgers in charge we are in safe hands and we're going in the right direction.
Cheers,
LS7.

Yeah both united and city lost to those teams away. this is anfield you clown.

What a load of Tripe! Unfortunatly its not a once off with Liverpool underperforming against teams below us in the table and that's the way it has been for a long time now! Your Comment is so rediculous with the teams you compair us to, The difference being. They loose one game they shouldn't but then might win 10 on the bounce that's what wins titles! Right Direction? Not with Lightweight Players who don't man up when its needed most sad to say!

Barcelona win 90% of their matches, United, City and Chelsea are competing for top honors most of the time. In my opinion Swansea play the best football in the league.

I do however believe in Rodgers and hope he succeeds.

Plymouth Red.

So you think we are a great team look how many points we are away from united give your head a wobble and wake up lad

11 Feb 2013 23:13:59
When analysing Rodgers comments I can't help but think about what a really good manager would say in the same situation. What would Fergie say if it were UTD? I think he would say he can't fault his sides effort but in the same breath say that level of finishing isn't good enough for the level of his club. We can't argue with the style of football, its the players who are letting the club down, 20 odd shots and they can't score? Pathetic.

12 Feb 2013 08:11:28
Ferguson?! Have you ever seen him criticising his team? He always has a go at the ref when his team doesn't do well.

Hounsred

11 Feb 2013 23:09:47
Payback time!
Rafa sacked.
Kenny sacked.

Steve Clarke pushed out.

Now the result can be seen.

Liverpool has-beens!

Bye.

11 Feb 2013 23:08:01
Mr rodgers mistake was taking the 2 wrong players of hendo and downing were the best players on the pitch he should of taken jonjo off sooner for coutinio

12 Feb 2013 08:32:47
also mr rodgers mistake was to start shelvey in front three our formations from the starting was wrong than it was made worse by the substitutions.

Ayush

11 Feb 2013 23:02:02
Yes it was a bad performance but what happened to all you fans praising the players before the game? I've always said that we were in a transition period and I stand by that now. I never expected success overnight. Besides if we had have won it 1-0 these comments would be completely different despite the bad performance! And for all you slating Brendan Rodgers, If your not happy with what he's doing with the club, go support another team. I for one am behind Brendan Rodgers as he has all the potential to be a top class manager and will lead us in the right direction without doubt. One of very few bad games we've had this season and people already calling for players to be dropped/sold! Can you believe some of these fans Ed?
Cheers,
LS7.

11 Feb 2013 23:01:55
If Sturrige plays its a different game. I think you are 3 players away from a competitive side. Not convinced by the manager though, something not quite right about him. Interesting to see some of you on here question him as well.
Bren,

Rodgers knows what he's doing and in my opinion is the man to bring us forward. Its not even the fact that they're not convinced by him as a manager its only when we lose that they are like this haha!

11 Feb 2013 22:56:19
Its so easy. just get an experienced manger he would fix our problems with the kind of money we keep wasting on crap

The way that Rafa done at Inter or Houlier done at Villa? Try giving him time to show what he can do!

11 Feb 2013 22:56:03
Not going to rant and rave - we got done by a classic smash and grab, and on any other night could have been 3 up before they scored.
BUT
why only 1 forward from the start?
why whenever a team ups the physical ante do we seem to fade?
why are we leaking 2 goals per game with supposed world class defenders?

Is it bad luck?, or is it that we are just not good enough? - just a mid-table team, mentally lightweight, without the bottle to mount a sustained challenge for the CL places?

11 Feb 2013 22:54:48
Some people need to get a grip!
Yeah the full backs were very poor tonight and shelvey was shocking but the game should have been out of sight by the time they did there smash and grab. and that's exactly what it was.
Watching the game from when we scored and it was disallowed, you had a feeling it was going to be one of those games. Then when you add in the saved shots, lucky deflections and then the mishit just before half time which (and I still now do not know how it deflected over) at any other time would have went in for an own goal. You just KNEW it would be one of those games!
We badly missed Sturridge, his hold up play and his fox in the box instincts that would have probably tested foster more tonight. Too often we were swinging balls in with no one there.
It doesn't say much for Borini that shelvey got a Game ahead of him, now that is worrying!
Games like this happen! Once they went in front then it was inevitable that they would score again as we chased the game exposing our back four.
I do think our heads dropped when we missed the pen, coupled with that, the West Brom players confidence muct have gone up as I'm sure a few of them were thinking "hang on we could get something here"!
All I can say is keep the faith! Yes some players may not be good enough, some players were poor tonight, some players should be getting a look in ahead of others, BUT we have to hope and pray that Brendan gets it right!

11 Feb 2013 22:54:25
whats happened to Suso?
and what the hell is it with Shelvey done absolutly nothing no pace no skill. Sterling is far too weak got his big pay packet and that's it!
Borini terrible.
Agger taken his foot off the pedal far too many times in games now.
Sahin was a good player never played enough.
I wouldn't blame Suarez if he did leave in the summer.
We are going no where. Manchester United went back to basics with 4 good strikers they paid a lot of £ for a player wrong side if 29 and he, s performed we need to invest in quality but saying that Swansea haven't too bad and nor has west Brom AND Everton ALL above us and probably stay above us.
Totally gutted tonight.
God Bless and I've given up watchn this lot and getting upset.

11 Feb 2013 22:52:40
Bit worried about the lack of urgency we sometimes show in clearly urgent situations.

West Brom played their socks off, and got the result. Another game, too, where the opposition keeper stepped up a notch at Anfield.

Mix of slight technical and attitudinal sloppiness on our part, with a scoop of good fortune for the visitors, sadly.

Need to work on set piece defending.

Promising signs having dominated for the majority of the match, but could have done with Sturridge out there tonight.

Ahh well. onto next week.

;0)

Dr S. Atire.

11 Feb 2013 22:52:31
Tonight's performance was shocking. Steven Gerrard and Suarez was awful. Glen johnson was total rubbish and was a joke.

Mighty reds

11 Feb 2013 22:52:27
For the first time this season, I'm going to have a moan. I'm gutted. Absolutely gutted.

It is so evident from tonight we do not have the squad to compete. One player in Sturridge out and the whole thing goes to hell.

When the substitutions came on, when the ball went up to the forwards, it seriously looked like an under 14 team. Coutinho is tiny. He didn't do anything wrong but he is really freakin tiny. He is smaller than sterling. I'm not critisising his performance but that is a worry.

You cannot play 3 coutinho, sterling and borini at the same time. No way. Never. Give them 3 years. Right now, We can only have one on at a time. All talented but too lightweight. In a few years that could all change but for now, one max.

Agger at defensive corners is becoming a huge liability. He needs to sort that out and I mean quick. He was 2 metres from his man when he was heading it in. That is unnacceptable and its not the first time this season.

BR got the subsitutions completely wrong. Why was Henderson taken off. I thought he was really solid and starting to become a problem for them. Its clear in hindsight but the double substitution was a a big error. Only Shelvey needed to come off.

I think we can no longer complain about bad decisions. We didn't deserve that penalty but we got it. We complain about other teams getting the luck but they take those when they get them.

Its a bad day at the office and we must regroup. We got a top first 11 and hopefully when sturridge comes back we can go on the charge again.

When I look, I think everything is so close. No more lightweight players. I don't want one more coming in. We have enough. No Ince. Good player but we got plenty like him.

This summer we need physical players that can play. I hate saying this but name me one lightweight player Ferguson ever bought. And if he buys a slightly lightwieht one he's built like a tank in his second season. Liverpool need to do the same to their lightwieght players. I don't know how United do it but Liverpool need to do the same to theirs.

We'll see what happens I suppose. I'll stick with 6th for this season but absolutely gutted.

Davey Sulls

11 Feb 2013 22:49:21
Anyone know why Skrtel not getting picked?
Is it because of the so called fall out or a possible transfer?

11 Feb 2013 22:48:30
hi eds and reds

totally gutted. from the City performance to that rubbish is just unreal. one thing now worrying me. I think Suarez will be offski in the summer. and if that's the case who will come to us when our star players want to go elsewhere. hope i'm wrong. by the way when I seen Jonjo starting I thought oh oh that looks a bit negative. and I don't think I've seen johnston and enrique both play as bad in the same game

and why do keepers have wonder nights against us

and why do out of form teams always beat us

11 Feb 2013 22:46:54
Sums it up:

- Only once in the 3 points for a win era have Liverpool had fewer points from 26 games than they do this season (1992-93: 34).

And the managers interview:

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "The players gave everything into the game. We just couldn't make the breakthrough and the longer it goes on, it gives them a wee bit more encouragement. I can't fault the players. "

If you can't fault the players then the shocking 0-2 home defeat to a team who hasn't won in 6 matches MUST be the fault of the manager!

11 Feb 2013 22:44:43
As much as not a Rodgers Fan ( Don't think his achevments warranted such a big move )

The team did enough to win, Suarez, Johnson etc had poor games in Box we had enough chances all a bit to casual

if we had scorerd early we would have won 2 or 3 Nil

What it does show is rodger 1 forward system dosn't really give us cutting edge and we seem suited with plaers we have to 442

And everyone getting on Shelveys back If his goal had stood, would you be complaining
He's not a forward and he form Prior to stoke in his natural position had got him a england call up

shows we have shocking lack of depth that we miss sturridge already

Downing played well as did Lucas

Let's be honest we are not a top 4 squad top 6 maybe

11 Feb 2013 22:50:53
Only downing was playin well and he took him off. Westbrom only played footy for 10mins and scored two goals. it is what we have been saying all year rodgers signings have been poor except sturridge. our key players were struggling, then our subs offer nothing when called upon. That's the difference between us and those top4 teams. To top it off gerrard missed a penalty!the result ends our top4 hopes now we can fight for sixth or maybe fifth

I Never understand why we keep signing average players all of sudden except them to play great football everytime. rodgers has spent 50m on new recruits none of them except sturridge have improved us dramatically. you keep pulling that crappy excuse of the team being young. arsenal were younger and cost less and they still made top4 almost every year. There is nothing wrong in signing young players, our problem is we never sign the good ones

PACMAN

In this Premier League you can get away with conceding goals so long as you have goalscorers in your team.
Look at Manutd, how many points ahead are they? Yet look how many goals they've conceded.
Point being I think your right, we should have spent all monies on goalscoring forwards.

11 Feb 2013 22:46:19
Glen Johnson is normally more reliable then he was today. He had a mare as did Suarez.
It's so typical of Liverpool to lose this game. 2 points from 3 games is not good enough, regardless of who the opponents are if your honestly aiming for top 4.
As it was we seemed to have conspired too throw points away in the last two matches. 4 points from 6 may have been a better reflection of our play in the last two matches.

7 out of 9 could have been achieved but for some slack defending and woeful finishing.
Nothing seems to have changed since last year, were so inconsistent it's shocking.
Forget top 4 for a couple more seasons, we need to build from the back and make ourselves more solid.
Given what we have spent in the past two years were still way of the pace. Moving in the right direction but heading for a huge points gap between us and united. Maybe as many as 35 and that's as much as when chelski came on the scene and won their titles.
Gutted

11 Feb 2013 22:44:58
Its clear that tiredness taking its toll on Suarez disappointment is even after spending more then 60M haven't improved much and new signings are not trused to start. Rodgers have no faith on his signings playing shelvey as striker instead of borini tells everything.

11 Feb 2013 22:44:16
How boring is it supporting Liverpool, just groundhog day yet again! I said to my mate sitting next to me Gerrard has missed this, you could just see in his body language, and as soon as he did we both said simultainiously they'll win this 1-0 now ( I now it was 2-0 before some smart arse corrects me because they have got nothing better to post )!

Been there seen it done it got the t-shirt, boring boring boring. WE ARE A CAR CRASH TEAM! I will have to skip past every glass is half full posts for the next few days because my brain can no longer take a " if we win our next 10 games 17-2, and spurs lose 6 on the spin and Arsenal lose blah blah blah zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! "

Just a final thought, not going down the road of slagging off individuals like a lot do on here, but for you Kenny haters, are things better now or worse? Answers on a postcard to. 18 Delusional close, glass is half full on sea, we could still make 4th under lyme. Never never land L55 4 RZ.

THANK YOU AND GOODNIGHT!

Waro

11 Feb 2013 23:28:48
Waro mate it says everything when you see our 60M+ signings are not starter except sturridge and KK signings are more prefered to start.

Thats the question they would never answer truthfully waro. just blindly supporting rodgers without any proof of improvement from last year

11 Feb 2013 23:45:54
How can we keep faith when our own manager has lost his faith in his own signings. None of them have been starters except sturridge. He prefers to play KK players instead of his own players and have more faith on KK signings then his own. In short 60M is wasted. He is ready to play shelvey as striker instead of Borini is there anything more to say

11 Feb 2013 22:40:07
br must realise that we got bullied tonite. if he keeps buying players who are not strong enough not good enough he should go.
its a physical game and we got out muscled and out taught by wba and clarke.
is it true little jay was sent on loan to bolton cause he's to big.
even our centre halfs are small.
u make your own luck. wba twice, villa, oldhan how long is this going to continue.
a bad day at the office my a++e.
more like a bad season.
this club is to big for br and most of his signings.

I don't think top 4 is possible at this time cause Tottenham doing absolutely brilliant arsenal picking up as well. And Liverpool still haven't beaten top 10 side this season

11 Feb 2013 22:39:37
Banter aside you should keep an eye on Newcastle. Nine points behind you, but they have a very appetising run-in. If they ditch the Europa and concentrate on the league I fancy them to pip you to 7th spot. You are 12 points from 4th spot, 12 points from bottom four. 9th in the league, 29 points behind United. Out of both domestic cups and needing to travel all the way to Russia midweek before playing a very good, fresh Swansea side at the weekend who have already destroyed you at Anfield this season. A Swansea side which has improved significantly since last season, favourites to win the Capital One Cup in a couple weeks. Suarez must be relishing the chance to light up the Bundesliga this summer ;)

Disney!

11 Feb 2013 23:13:37
Congratulations you must be delighted, we've been the most successful team in the EPL for so long now, it must be great to know you are nearly better than us!

11 Feb 2013 22:36:04
Eds fellow reds. BR has got to take blame now for this rubbish defending, because if you go back to last season the same back four and we had the second best defence in the league. he needs to stop passing the ball 60 yards back and keep the back line closer together. splitting two centre halfs 30 yards apart every time we go forward you will always get problems. because we have a small as in hight and build front 5 players as soon as they come up against a rough tough team they get knocked off the ball. play Kelly centre half when fit and wisdom in back line all day a bit of grit is needed at our club.

Rodgers is not to blame for Agger's inability to pick up his man from a corner

11 Feb 2013 22:35:58
Rodgers out! team was awful so many need to go, everyone says give him a Chance to build a champion league side! how would he even know what one is he's never played at that level! we need to start looking at a better option? do you really see Brendan winning us the league in the next 5 years? or the champions league? Especially when you can see how good all other teams around us are getting. change now! YNWA

Your dead right he never played at that level so he will never get to it as a manager. Just ask morinho, wenger and the many more who never made it there as a player.

KUMBER

Give it a rest Kumber, the posters spot on. The mans way out of his depth. The usual 433 crap tonight. I called Clarkes tactics before the game kicked off. A physical fit Sunday league team old turn us over when we set out in Rodgts naive 433.

Ozone {Ed001's Note - we played 4-4-2, a reverse image of the way Wenger played it when he first arrived. The difference being our players are not as good. Henderson is a narrow left sided midfielder, Wenger had Parlour playing narrow on the right. It is not a 4-3-3, more of a 4-5-1 because Shelvey was dropping too deep, but it is meant to be a 4-4-2 variant.}

11 Feb 2013 22:34:40
The tone was set from the start. Sloppy sloppy sloppy. Our inability to defend as a team is worrying. We have no height at the back and Agger is dreadful at attacking the ball if we are attacking or defending. We need a balance of players who can dog it out and not just small creative players. I don't think BR will ever buy a player like that as not part of his coaching DNA

11 Feb 2013 22:33:59
Liverpool needed an experienced proven manager to lead the club forward instead we opted for an in experienced unproven man! I like his ideas etc but it isn't working out there is no progress this season and I can only see it ending up one way him quitting, he needs to keep his reputation which is slowly dwindling away! What now for LFC?

Like Hodgson is it?

11 Feb 2013 22:36:03
I posted earlier that people should get realistic and that 4th place was beyond us this season. this game showed that. Not only did the manager set up the team wrong- (this showed in the fact that when we were attacking there was nobody in the box) but too many players were off form tonight.
sometimes you scrape these games and when we got the dubious penalty I really did think we were going to get 3 points. but when Stevie G missed I knew at that point that it was going to be one of those nights.
Foster in goal was awesome for them and it was not to be but we can't just put it down to bad luck or an amazing performance by an opposition goalie
I am not a great fan of Borini but when he came on he had less potency in front of goal than Hendo and the rebound after Gerrards shot he went in with his wrong foot. Any natural striker would have gone with his left.
All week posters have been stating that we need a center back or two but what Sturridges absence showed is that we also need another top drawer striker.
BR has got a lot of work to do to convince many fans that he is the man for such a big job. Like most others on this forum I am going to give him a chance but many more bad team selections and results like this and we will be losing faith in him sooner rather than later.

11 Feb 2013 22:33:33
I think the system we play when Sturridge in the side is better.
Again we had no body bouncing on the loose balls, whenever we attacked everyone lined up on the edge of the box with no one threatening inside.
Its easy to blame the players, but for me we needed a different system, if Jonjo was suppose to be the virtual number 9 or 10 then he should 've been instructed to stick to the 6 yards, but he is no forward and does n't have the strikers instinct. If Brendan bought Borini as a striker then he should've started with him and subbed him later on if he can't last the full 90 minutes.
Lets hope this is an eye opener to the manager and everyone else who was harping on top 4 finish all week and realise we are far from there and we need a lot of hard work to make sure of top 7 finish. we need 7th spot else the future is not bright at all.

Roy

Improvement?
4 games no win!
2 goals conceded in each game!
No points are earned for most possession or most passes!
All you Rodgers lovers need to stop clutching at straws there is and has been no improvement!

Derek

Hi Derek I enjoy your tv programme stick to that.

Reusch.

The style of football becoming very exciting? Battering almost every team we come up against? Young players coming through the ranks? Players who were under-performing doing fairly well? Wage bill being hugely decreased? No improvement my arse!

11 Feb 2013 22:30:58
The reason why we are poor against mediocre teams but good against the better teams is this:

The good teams do not just sit back. They come forward and attack us which leaves gaps at the back for us to penetrate.

The bad teams sit back and have a rigid structure. Much harder to find spaces in the box to score goals. Hopeless crossing and needless passing doesn't work. Rodgers need to find a method to break down opposition teams that sit back.

The way to find gaps is to pass the ball quickly around the box and in the box. One or two touch passing. Everything has to be done quickly and much more passes in the box and just outside the box. If the passing is quick, gaps will appear and real chances will be made.

This method is used by Barcelona who almost always face opposition that just want to sit back and defend against them.

The problem with us is our passing is it's too slow and there's hardly any passing inside the box. You don't see quick one-twos in our game. Our possession play is ineffective due to this slow passing.

Pass and move. There is not enough moving from our players.

Not sure how you can say you do better against the "good" teams, when you haven't won against a team in the top half.

Jordan

This has been so obvious from day 1 but we didn't have the players today who can pass like that

Whoever you r, it does make sense. I had been wondering why do we play good against better teams - is it because do v up are levels or v are simply making a mistake in our approach to the games.

brendan rodgers

Hmm, strangely it was Liverpool that sat back and parked the bus against arsenal and tried to catch them on the counter for most of the game, explain please!

That post is actually backing up my post. Arsenal were attacking us which left spaces in behind. We managed to get two goals.

Agger at fault again maybe his time is up, agger, skirtel, Enrique, reina, borini all have to go need a new defence keep up the great work with the site mate

Well done Steve Clarke. You team showed spirit, never lay down attitude, teamwork defending and great counter attacking and finishing.

11 Feb 2013 22:27:36
I have been viewing this page, especially after defeats this seasons and I must say that some of the knee-jerk reactions actually now make me chuckle slightly compared to the anger at the start of the season. This isn't down to me wanting us to lose or anything like that but it's the fact that people who praise the team so highly after a good result then turn 180 degrees after a bad one. I'd be interested to see the ages of some posters as frankly the reactions on here can be quite childish.

Cheer up everyone. It's only a game. Let's suck it up and move on.

Hans

Agreed, some of our football this season has been fantastic

11 Feb 2013 23:00:16
Its about time Rogers held his hand up and took the blame. In selecting Shelvey he totally unbalanced the team. In recent games Sturridge played through the middle allowing Suarez the freedom to move all over the pitch. Borini should have just slotted in for Sturridge, minimum disruption. Reina took all the flak last week for the equaliser, I think Rogers was as much to blame. Agger was comfortable marking Agguerra. Yet Rogers again makes two positional changes when one will do. You would have thought he would think through his selections after Oldham.

11 Feb 2013 22:27:07
Hi eds,
After tonight's poor performance can you see any significant funds given to Rodgers this summer? I would have liked to seen more desire by the players. Again we hope and wait for Next season

11 Feb 2013 22:24:40
Everytime the team starts to play well BR does something personic.
The reason we've been playing the last 3 games or so has been
1) Suarez has not been playing as the out'n'out striker, he's been playing on the inside left with permission to roam.
2) Henderson has starred in a central left role.
3) We've always had 3 flare players in up the pitch who have the ability to run at and beat defenders.
We've had all of this against strong teams such as Arsenal and City, and then, against far weaker opponents he goes and changes the entire formula that has gotten us to play so well of late.
Yes Sturridge was out, but there were so many options he could have gone for that would have still kept at least 2 out of those 3 positive factors that's featured in our last 3 games.
1) He pushes suarez into out'n'out striker, losing the danger we had at inside left.
2) He gets rid of our 3 flare players in favour of Shelvey and henderson playing out of position yet again (When will BR get it that henderson is NOT a utility player, leave him were he's playing well. ) And then has the audacity to pull the poor boy off when he's having an ineffective game in a position that's not his (while having sterling, borini and coutinho who would have all done better in that position. He really wasted henderson tonight. All he had to do is stick to the same lineup, keep henderson and suarez in the same positions they've played in the last 3 games and do a straight swop sturridge for borini as out'n'out striker. he had to go use some of he's son's brains.
I'm in full support of BR and he's phylosophy of how we should play but he should seriously leave choosing the starting eleven to someone else. He chose a squad tonight that gave Westbrom a chance to get something out of the game.
Hopefully he allows his assistant to choose the starting lineup for Swansea.
YNWA The Pirate

I think the game changed once henderson went off the pitch. the pressing disappeared and the team lacked energy, except for Lucas.

don't worry, we have progressed by far from the 3-0 defeat at hawthorns on the first week of the season. hold on, we are progressing.

Embarrassing to listen to Brenda's comments after the match, how he can say that he can't fault the effort of the players is shocking we were rubbish. Just be honest for once we are rubbish.

Culed1

Hey let's not forget they didn't have a shot for 80 min so team didn't play that bad just bit casual in final third
I'am not a fan of Rodgers but tonight showed how much our squad is lacking cutting edge if Suarez is of his game as he was tonight

FSG HAVE to act. We can't carry on like this we're a sinking ship.

We need an experienced manager to re-organise the shambles of a team.

Mourinho is available at the end of the season, we need the special one.

Curled1

Get real. Mourinho won't come anywhere near us, he will go to PSG, Man City or back to Chelsea where he has mega bucks to spend and countless world-class players to work with.

Like it or lump it, we are stuck with Brendan Rodgers.

He's said many a time he would not like to manage Liverpool for what ever reason? he says he has his own! said there were only a few teams he liked in the premier league tottenham, man utd, man city, chelsea, and everton. they were the ones he named in an interview a while back that he would like to manage

But he doesn't need you, me thinks

Gav

If he thinks he's so special than what better way to prove it by delivering Liverpool their first title in 23 years, he's just another big time talker who bends down to sugar daddy clubs.

11 Feb 2013 22:20:00
Was Skrtl out due to form or impending transfer?
I believe Sturridge being out shows our weakness once again in front of goal. Sterling lightweight, Borini has zero confidence, Shelvey just an aggressive arrogant little sh!t. We need another striker, quality finisher, if Sturridge or Suarez is out we are back to square one.

11 Feb 2013 22:19:57
Glad I couldn't go tonight because I would want me money back.
Suarez will be off soon because he is to good for our present squad.
Shockers today was shelvey, johnson,. borini, enrique and reina.
The rest was average and downing, suarez, lucas are best players tonight.

Another sheep. what the heck did Reina do wrong this evening. he made a super save, and he could n't do anything about the 2 goals.

Lol Roy.

the second goal went pretty much straight through reinas hands. we might as well not have a goalkeeper

what a joke of a performance johnson, enrique, shelvey poor. borini wrong league, downing drifts in and out of games, lucas man of match by far. what ever happened to full backs crossing balls? where's this passing game where supposed to be playing?never seen us give the ball away so much. love to see what goes on in training. can understand we need time but come on west brom at home with the time rogers has had we have a right to expect better than that.

11 Feb 2013 22:18:02
Agger fault for both goals tonight, lost his man for the 1st goal and then luka went passed him as if he wasn't there, although we didn't deserve to get beat tonight it was a disgraceful performance except for downing. although we played better 2nd half

Shelvey contributed nothing, agger cannot defend, as for johnson, don't think I have seen a performance like it, he was horrendous to say the very least.

We played tonight with no pattern, no style, no nothing, like 11 strangers and that's down to B. R.
Also have to be honest and say I didn't think it was a penalty, however we should have had lots of penalties in other games which we didn't get.

Imo players that need to go in the summer are

Johnson, Agger, Shelvey, Henderson, Borini, Coates, Sterling, Wisdom, Robinson, Flanagan, Wilson.

Still think a finish of 7-10 looking likely and perhaps now people will stop talking of finishing 4th.

Back 4 bar none were rubbish, took off the wrong midfielder, hendo looked half decent, Sterling needs a rest from the 1st team and Borini i'm sorry to say is just not going to cut it. Clear out needed, back to the drawing board. This will take more than a couple of years

11 Feb 2013 22:16:17

11 Feb 2013 22:15:58
Oh my god will you persons shut up about Rodgers getting the sack,, he didn't miss the penalty did he? If Gerard had of scored it we would of won.

I'm as frustrated as everyone else but we had 20 attempts, that's more than enough to win any game by 3 or 4 goals,, criticism needs to be aimed at the players as-well sometimes, not just the manager

Kelly Red

This is the same problem we had last year Kelly, we create so many chances but hardly score any. You would've expected the manager to realise and solve this problem, he had 2 windows and spent a fair amount of money.

Agreed. BR's starting line ups have cost us games. He seems to lack a bit of balls to take it to teams sometimes. His psychology can really suck. As for the team. well they thought this was going to be done and dusted and over by half time. They played like conceited persons tonight. Not impressed. There was no atmosphere from the outset as everyone thought it was going to be a non contest. Jeez. go for the jugular from the first minute in future pls.

11 Feb 2013 22:05:42
I have to hold my hands up tonight.
I have stuck up for the team against the moaners but even I can't find the words here.
Oldham all over again. A bunch of players who had no interest in winning. They appeared to have given up on the season and started a very early holiday.
Johnson and Enrique both truly terrible. No urgency, back passing and a constant desire to ass to the opposition and put their team in trouble. Shelvey, why?
You cannot win anything without desire. All we had to do was care and we would ave won 6 nil.
Fair play to West Brom and Foster, they hung in and aways knew that if they had desire they could win.

If we don't get a grip we will possibly finish bottom 8 not top. My gut feeling is t some players wouldn't care.

Hate being this negative. If. Play well and try our best I will accept results but not this way, please.

Just poor, very poor and disappointing football. The idea is to get the ball in the back of the net, not just pretty passing!
I think Rogers would make a good no. 2, under an experienced manager.

11 Feb 2013 22:11:31
In simple words bad day at the office,

Performance well below expectation, but again PL champions were poor with all the world class players they have,

Lots to learn from this game, maybe coutinho should have come in before sterling who didn't bring nothing to this game at all,

Suarez had a poor game maybe less support, you know when it's not your day when players like Suarez can't get shot on target properly, when we missed penalty I had a fear we would end up loosing

Congratulations to WBA, and I'm sure they have foster to thank

Don't be sad I'm sure we will improve maybe BR will kick backside of few players from tonight

I use to be very negative before when we use to loose, but me being negative is not going to improve the team, I think BR should not speak about final league position again, last time he said we can finish 1nd we lost to Aston villa and today he said we can finish 4th we end up loosing my advise would be, be quiet and concentrate on one game at a time

Don't be sad LFC fan,

Dear lord the negative comments on here are ridiculous. Yes we lost when we should have one and that is hard to take. Foster played out of his mind today, when does that ever really happen? Everyone can say we are terrible and in the last 10 minutes after the PK miss we were not playing well. But we did dominate that game. I think taking off Henderson and Downing was not the right move. But I also think that Lucas showed that he is on his way back with a lot of the tackles he made. Enrique was quite poor but he has been out for weeks and can't be expected to be 100% perfect. Borini did not do a lot but his movement was very good and he should have had a goal if foster hadn't made a great save. All in all everyone needs to calm down and try and support that team for a change when we lose.

Red Rat

If the PK went in we wouldn't have been talking about a bad game.
Before the PK the didn't have even one attempt on goal NOT ONE and we had 16. After the PK our players lost it completely, when Johnson lost the ball that summed it up.
I think today the mistake is completely on BR because he went in with a poor team attacking wise (Shelvey as our frontman?). He let Gerrard into a holding role and occasionally to come at the front. No Borini, no Coutinho, no Sterling that was a huge mistake. This type of game should have been put to bed in first 45 minutes.

I'm sick of this "Borini had good movement" rubbish. Stop making excuses for him, he hasn't showed anything since he has been at Liverpool, sure he might improve but in the meantime don't make excuses for him.

i really can't blame brendan rodgers. he needs time to build a squad capable of the champions league. people think if we change manager we will automatically finish in the top 4 but in reality a manager needs more than a season to turn a club around. I really hope he is givin the time.

You can't blame Rodgers, he can't fault the players.

Well who's F'in fault is it that we have our lowest points total after this many games for 19 years?

The pope?

11 Feb 2013 22:10:10
How much was Borini again? I havnt seen him play one good game yet. To be fair, I can't blame hime solely as their was half a dozen players who was really poor tonight.
West brom came to counter and they won the chess game again.
I don't think we deserve 4th and to be blunt I don't think we have progessed.
Our defence hasn't been organised in years and we get out muscled in midfield. We havnt got a natural defensive midfielder and other than saurez and sturridge we have no goals up front.
Fancy football is all good but doesn't win trophies just ask Arsenal.

My 2 cents:
How many times in the last 2/3 years has the oppossion keeper got MOTM against us?! Borini just isn't good enough i'm afraid, very poor! Also cannot see us getting top 4 at all. Cannot blame BR for tonight, definitely the players fault. Hoping for a lot better in Russia on Thursday.

Rogers signings

Borini waste of space no goal threat
Allen lightweight lost form
Sturridge real potential
Coutinho possibly class
Sahin cancelled half way through loan never given the chance of a run of games
Assaidi shown promise again no run of games

Basically so far the players that showed glimpses of talent haven't had a fair chance and the rubbish he's signed because of Swansea connections have been allowed to besmirch the red shirt
Sorry Brendan either start kicking backsides offload the 4-3-3 or ship yourself out

Forgot to mention the one signing that really shows potential yet all season has struggled to even make the bench and now us out for the season samed yesil
How the feck Borini has got the nod ahead of samed all year shows how biased Rodgers is towards players he's worked with before. We will end up losing Yesil on a cheap transfer and he'll turn out to be Klose mark 2

We got sooooooooooooo unlucky!!!

when ever we feel closer to good we do bad! : (

we missed Sturridge! that is it for 4th place now. I believe in BR but we get so unlucky its unbelieveable.

11 Feb 2013 22:07:42
Only consolation was that couthino looks sharp.
Worst defending I've seen all season. We can't defend corners. and we cwnt finish team off. lots of work ahead.

11 Feb 2013 22:07:34
Why oh why did we take downing and hendo off, Sterling just isn't good enough, reality is we are just not good enough. We can't defend a ball from a set piece, to many small players in the team always going to struggle. First time tonight I have heard the boo's from the fans. As for borini we have better forwards in the youth teams.

11 Feb 2013 23:24:30
100% agree with your post Jir63

i do not expect anything to happen overnight, but until we start buying quality players instead of wasting money on average players we will never progress!

11 Feb 2013 22:06:34
You either trust all of your players, and rotate all off them (Gerrard, Suarez, Johnson and Agger including) or you have players burn-out 12 fixtures before the end of the season. Rodgers grow some balls and bench seniors even when it counts.

11 Feb 2013 23:35:43
Agree with you, I never thought I would say it but could not understand the substitutions hendo (who at last is growing in confidence) and downing who in imo was probably one of our best players tonight taken off for borini and sterling. I am undecided about br and have not had a go at him yet but substitutions were a joke. Jir63

11 Feb 2013 22:05:57
HOW?,,,,, HOW on earth did we lose that game 2 nil,,,, I was wathin it thinkin, this'll be a disaster if it finishes nil all, 20 attempts compared to their 2,,,, I can't believe it!!

Before this site gets overrun with understandably frustrated fans calling for Rodgers head,

Simple fact is, if Gerard had of scored the penalty we would of won

Kelly Red

11 Feb 2013 22:05:49
Now everyone is going to say rodgers out. Not the solution! We missed sturridge and I think henderson playing out wide was a mistake. Start of the season nobody expected top four, we will push on next season. Back rodgers!

11 Feb 2013 22:05:13
Season is over and it's still February.

11 Feb 2013 22:04:28
Get over it guys. We were only trying to get as high as we could this year. That was not possible with our squad at the beginning of the season. In our last 8, we have only lost this once, so we are still on the up. The fact that we have lost, will plague this site for a day at least, but everyone is entitled to their opinions. i'm just posting this early on, in an attempt to make people think twice before posting "Rogers Out" in the coming hours.

Sorry about that weird stat that just came into my mind at the time. I meant 3 out of 8 games.

11 Feb 2013 22:03:34
Really poor result, don't even know what to say at this point. But I'll say stuff anyway. When you out shoot someone 25 to 5 and at one point 18 to 0, I am not sure what people want the manager to do. At what point do you look at the players on the field, I mean my god 18 shots to none. How is it his fault, other than if you want to argue signings, that they can't score under those conditions? Johnson, who I am a big fan of had a terrible game. Shelvey was not good at all, Sterling all of a sudden looks lost. Looked like the team of late last year early this year, lots of possession no goals. Amazing how different they look without Sturridge, never thought I would be saying that, lol. Back to the drawing board Brendan, don't know what else you can do.

PS: This team should never be allowed to talk about where they might finish again, every time they talk about top 4 they lose. Their only comment should be written on a cue card for them "We are just worried about getting the three points that are in front of us". Period end of story.

Someone should have told the team tonight pancake day is tomorrow! That was flat as a. !

11 Feb 2013 22:03:11
Oh well back to the future
1) 1 step forward 5 steps back.
2) Not enough players in the box
3) can't defend corners or free kicks.
4) Our defenders are simply not big and strong enough
5) Team selection
6) Tactics
7) No aggression or will to win
could go on and on, Why do most teams in premiership have more strikers then we do. Even lower teams now think and do beat us.
Finally will the mangers and players stop saying in the media how we will do this do that etc, bloody do it on the pitch. MrT

11 Feb 2013 22:03:11
Really blew it tonight. The only player I could mention as positive is Stewart Downing, he had a good game. The rest was just awful, I mean when Gerrard misses a penalty then something is wrong! Well done for Steve Clark, never should have let him go!

11 Feb 2013 22:03:10
One of those nights I suppose, the problem is that we've had plenty of them over the last 20 years. Jury is out on a few players and the manager which is expected after losing so many this season. Consistency used to win the league, nowadays it gets you 4th, even 3rd maybe.
Personally I thought subbing Hendo was strange as they started to tire & he was still full of beans & Borini needs to come on when we are winning. But I'm not the manager so Ill leave it there!

I am speechless tonight. I simply can't believe us sometimes.

I thought Shelvey was shocking tonight. Although not much better I think it would have been good to start with Borini as at least the shape of the last few games would still be there.

who thought wed see the day after a month we say we missed sturridge hugely

11 Feb 2013 22:02:18
Wow. The biggest goof we made this summer was letting sc leave. Fair play to the guy, doing a sterling job. Chin up though lads we've got a long way to go but we are building a strong squad.
RealisticRed

Cos he hasn't lost any games since Christmas has he!

SC didn't win them the game. It was poor selection by BR. How can your best player Suarez play out wide most of the game? SC must have been rubbing his hands when he saw that.

Never thought I would be saying this, but I believe our biggest mistake in terms of letting employees leave, was Dirk. And I guess that is a credit to just how much he really did for the team. I'll be honest, I haven't watched him play at all this year but the man was a utility player if there ever was one.

Suarez and him seemed to hit it off when they played together last year as well. Just the thought of those two running around at defenders for 90 minutes makes me laugh.

Didnt get watch the game today, but in reality Steve Clark knows us in, and out so no surprise he set up a team to play to our weaknesses, on top of riling his players up to "get one over on the old club. " Top coach it seems, glad to see him doing well. Unfortunately, it was against us today.

Grumble. so close yet so far.
Missing the penalty was a big point, should of took Shelvey off earlier and Suarez wasnt having a good game.
Glad to see Coutinho in the red shirt though, let's hope next weeks better!

11 Feb 2013 22:01:48
We will defo not get champions league after tonight's performance! you don't win games based on stats, the players have been so inconsistent this season it's makes me shake my head in disbelief, certain individuals in the team have let the fans down badly. I don't mean to be harsh on any player but seriously what does fabio borini offer to the team? Yet another terrible waste of money, but yet us Liverpool fans should be use to it by now

Sorry for the rant people, hope the fortunes change

wasnt going to get champions league before either! The club needs to wake up and get an experienced manager in!

Oh Danny boy, the bench the bench is calling. got to drop him for Skrtel now. Goals vs Stoke, Arsenal, Utd, West Brom x 2 with him caught out. Did I forget a game / goal? Either drop him or put him on the half way line for defensive set pieces. He cannot mark! Shocking!

Or switch to Zonal marking

11 Feb 2013 22:01:33
wot an awful performance tonite, the only ones to come out of that with any credit wer downing and hendo, skyrtl must be wondering why he was dropped an not agger, brutal.

hahhaha
Thats 5-0 on aggregate

11 Feb 2013 22:01:26
Agger responsible for both Goals

Should have not been a penalty

We must congradulate Steve Clarke and Steve Keen our no 2 & no 3 last year

Well done lads wish you were here!

Agger has been responsible for a lot of the goals going in lately. I know Skrtel has been getting a lot of stick of late, but Agger has been just as bad.

11 Feb 2013 22:01:24
Well, what a bloody nightmare, thought we had got rid of the issue of possession with no end product yet it seems tonight that Sturridge is already more important to us than anyone could have believed. I am sorry to say this but Borini really doesn't have a place in the EPL he really brought nothing to the side when he came on. What happened did we put our boots on the wrong feet tonight I have never seen so many missed passes and poor touches.

Fair play to Steve Clarke set his stall out and grabbed a good win against the run of play but if you miss that many chances and a penalty then maybe we didn't deserve anything.

Several other weak performances tonight, but one player showed his is suitable for Lfc and someone I have always rated Foster, would be very happy if pepa goes to have him as a replacement.

Oh well look forward to Zenit now.

Lanarth

11 Feb 2013 22:01:20
why bring Borini on?. We had the game sorted with hendo pushing against players in the midfield.
I don't get it, we take of a unit that is working weel aside from struggling to score and we replace two players with two badly out of form in a game we need to win,
Im just at a loss as to what he sees in certain players i'm sure, Hendo was doing ok for me at least putting an effort in, Lucas was terrible and is off the pace and Agger can't defend for toffee.
strange decisions from Rodgers at times. bad bad result
YNWA JFT96

Couldn't see why he took off Henderson myself Either!

Lyndon

I agree about leaving Hendo on, but Lucas terrible? I thought he played ok. It just didn't click today.

Nick

Sorry Lucus was ok, he made some good tackles. Agger was at fault for both goals yes but that happens at cb and he is pretty consistent. The whole game was muted and the atmosphere subdued. A very un Anfield feeling. Even when we went 1-0 down there was no belief and the last 10 minutes were a damp squib from the crowd.

11 Feb 2013 22:01:18
Season over and it's only Feb, top 6 looks like it might be beyond our side if we pay at hoe anymore.

It was a negative team selection tonight with Jonjo what's appended to Suso?

We should ave won tonight but as usual no composure in front of goal.

i have posted this before and will do it again.
when are we going to realize that we did not strenghten.
allen/sahin/assaidi that's were we went wrong, and believe me guys I afrom malta watch italian football all my life borini is a donkey.
technically not good enough for Liverpool.
if I was fsg I would ask BR why he wanted to buy players that did not play, he sold them nonsense with his tika taka I saw this last season all season long.

11 Feb 2013 22:00:45
Is it just me but we seem to have more corners than many teams in the league and we can't get a header on Target this is one thing I think we have lacked for many years our set pieces are poor at best we had so many chances to win this game was just not our night back to the old drawing board ( maybe have a look at those corners again BR)

Loz9064

11 Feb 2013 22:00:43
No progress since BR has taken over. yes he lost Sturridge but that's no excuse. Players deserved to be booed off except for Carra of course. The rest were poor today. As stated weeks ago we are a mid-table team and we don't deserve anything better.

I love carra but he was also absolutely awful tonight. But Glen and Enrique were something else

11 Feb 2013 22:00:36
borini, downing, henderson, lucas, shelvey just aren't match winners! enrique is up and down like a yoyo. reina doesn't ever command his box from corners same could be said for all our defenders. agger is a better footballer than a defender! the list goes on. really gutted!

11 Feb 2013 21:57:39
Haha did anyone notice how for there second goal the ball seemed to go throught reina again seems to happen a lot these days clearly a ghost of his former self!

his tactic for one on ones seems to be make your self as small as possible and hope the ball hits you, Ben foster made multiple saves from close range the key being he actually moves when there's a shot

Ps not saying reina is solely to blame for the loss just pointing it out, the reasons for the loss were poor passing and a lack of cutting edge in front of goal AGAIN

Oh well move on and on to the next 1

Had Sturridge have been playing, I feel we would have walked over that game. Borini just isn't good enough.

Can't blame the manager when the team can't score in 20+ attempts and the defence let's in 2 goals in about 4 attempts.

11 Feb 2013 21:57:20
Oh My God! I'm so sick of seeing teams play us, get dominated and come out of the game with something. Why can't we just finish teams off? The movement of the ball is just not quick enough, then today until Borini came on there was nobody even near the 6 yard box at any point. Suarez is brilliant, didn't have the greatest game but still brilliant, but can he not alter his runs a little bit. Any time we have the ball in a crossing position he always drops to the edge of the box, this is alright when Sturridge is in there, but not with one striker. Have to say Henderson was my MOTM by a mile. He was brilliant with everything he did. Gerrard was good as well, despite the penalty miss. There were spells of sloppiness that left me pulling my hair out at times, however at the end of the day it is amazing that we didn't win that match. Agger let us down big time as well.

11 Feb 2013 21:59:20
Yes, we missed Sturridge. Yes, Shelvey, Enrique and Johnson all picked tonight to have a night off and forget how to pass the ball. Yes, we got beat by West Brom. BUT I am not going to join the doom and gloom masses on here. It wasn't as bad as youse lot are making out. Until they scored they had 1 shot on goal - 1 SHOT in 80 minutes! Liverpool started slowly but gradually grew into and took over the game. Yes, Borini was not as effective as Sturridge, but that is down to the owners, not Brendan. We are moving forwards and adapting accordingly. Give it time. 4th was never really an option with the way the other big teams are playing. Top 8 and I'll look forward to the next season - maybe some investment, who knows, but I really hope Brendan's hard work pays dividends.

I have never been so angry watching a Liverpool.
I want an apology then I want brenden to say he will be putting bid in for foster. I am afraid we just lost any chance of 4th after that I said before we needed 4points from the arsenal/man city games but with the two points added the way we played I thought we had a chance but we got no hope after that like I said I want a apology!

You so called supporters calling for Rodgers to be sacked make me laugh you talk so much crap! Gerrard missed a penalty which I spose for Rodgers fault aswell Enrique couldn't pass to save his life tonite and can someone explain the point of Borini. When Rodgers took over he openly said it was a 2yr project and you lot demand instant success bot time you all came back down to earth an started living in the real world.

11 Feb 2013 21:58:58
I said it before, I'll say it again. Daniel Agger cannot mark his man. Yet another goal because of his awful concentration levels. He is the problem not Skrtel, maybe now people will see. I know everyone played poor tonight but Agger cost us any result AGAIN!
No urgency tonight. Johnson, Shelvey, Agger, Enrique, Sterling, Borini should all refuse their wages this week. They didn't turn up! Woeful, be luck to get 14th. Let's hear the positives from tonight Brendan. any? Can't think of any myself except Coutinho getting his debut outta the way. Tonight was an embarrassment quite simply!

The post of the night, totally agree

11 Feb 2013 21:58:44
Hi all
I am not usually one to have a moan but I am sorry but a team that are going for 4th place to play like that was not good enough. There was no urgency, most players 1st touch was terrible, passing was awful. Missed Sturridge big time. Sorry Brendan I have been a fan of yours but my support is now beginning to go. How can we go from the way we played against Arsenal and especially Man city to that?
Enrique was Awful, Johnson not much better, Shelvey never have and never will like him.
Bad day at the office maybe but time is running out and being so inconsistent we are going nowhere.
Remember this is just my opinion.
Paul

11 Feb 2013 21:58:22
I'm struggling to cope with this frustration.

I didn't want Brendan at our club but have remained supportive and positive, ever hopeful that he will turn it around but for the first time tonight I have actually slated him.

I know we dominated, I know we had endless chances but at the end of the day points say it all and simply put, we are not good enough.

We are a very long way from a champions league side and could be or some time.

Time to hit the bottle!

Clacker {Ed001's Note - every post from you has been nothing but negative, just because you don't put your name to them doesn't mean you haven't been a whiner. You have been in no way positive and supportive!}

Well done Ed putting him in his place. Just not our night tonight!

wow its funny that everyone here is bashing rodgers why not bash the players or even Gerrard if he scored that pen it might have been a different game

2-1

We still would have lost

of course we wouldn't.

11 Feb 2013 21:58:03
Sorry BR but you got that all wrong. Shelvey hasn't the ability nor work rate to justify his selection. Why change a system moving Henderson out wide for Shelvey. 4-3-3 has been working so why put square pegs in round holes!
I'll forgive Enrique for a shocker as its not been like him recently.
Hate to say it but Carra has come in and done ok, but it's 2 points out of 9 with him. The problem for me is Agger. lost his man on both goals tonight, lost his man against United and if I remember rightly, at Arsenal too.
Not good enough.
Leedsredmatt {Ed001's Note - we played 4-4-2 against City, the only difference was Sturridge was up alongside Suarez, rather than Shelvey.}

In what way was that easy money? Did you watch the game or just see the end score.?

11 Feb 2013 21:56:01
As usual, more cutting edge in a wooden spoon!

I don't think Rodgers should be sacked; we need to stop with the chopping and changing of manager every season-season and a half, as it doesn't do us any good.

However I don't think he should have even been employed in the 1st place! He is way out of his league, and is mid table manager at best and should be managing a mid table team. Oh wait!

SR (AKA StrabaneRed)

11 Feb 2013 21:55:36
That's one of the most embarrassing results I've ever witnessed, right now I'm truly ashamed of that team and I've watched Liverpool for the past 33 years. Why were there so many off performances from our players? There is no excuse for what I've seen tonight, I am absolutely and totally embarrassed.

I agree. totally unacceptable.

11 Feb 2013 21:55:27
"In Brendan We Trust"

You must be joking.

This has been the worst season for Liverpool in living memory.

Playing our best in a long while its not his fault the players need 30 odd chances to score once.

11 Feb 2013 21:55:08
Suarez gets squashed between 2 West Brom defenders, gets a yellow card!
Have to say the ref's having a shocker!
Suarez shouldn't have got a penalty, but got one. Coutinho should have got a pen, didn't get one. Suarez then gets yellow carded for something that should have been given his way! We didn't deserve to win that game, we never even looked like scoring!

Was it me or did Morrison give some ironic applause to the ref earlier in the game with no action?

Simon

11 Feb 2013 21:54:30
Furious would not even begin to explain my feelings on our performance tonight. We are at home against a team who were playing to only counter attack and we start wi one up top. Downing was fantastic, substituted. Shelvey was terrible, why are we starting with him behind the striker when we had other forwards on the bench. Coutinho is supposedly brilliant, why did we not give him a start behin Suarez or Borini along side.
West Brom fantastic tactically, Liverpool terrible. We have dominated 80 minutes to lose 2-0. The shot statistics were pathetic

11 Feb 2013 21:54:14
So, that it. 4th gone. Back to where we started - this has been the hardest 3 years to be a Liverpool fan in my lifetime. 6 points to west brom. We demand answers now. disgrace this, absolute joke. joke. rubbish
Gazman

Did you miss last season Gazman? Three wembley appearances, 2 finals and won one ( plus beat everton in semis ), European place in bag by March 2012, finished 7th in league.

Kenny Dalglish sacking seems even more bizarre now.

11 Feb 2013 21:54:02
Once again, BR is not good enough to manage this great club. His summer signings have been a liability all season and although Shelvey and Hendo had poor games, Borini was awful when he came on. I don't even know who Assaidi is, and was glad not to see Allen today. Clarke and Keen showed class tonight.
No chance of top 4 or 5.
We cannot criticise SG for the pen.
Hopefully BR is sacked in the summer (stupid jacket and flashy watch and all), please bring in a quality manager otherwise we will lose our best players.

Hopefully BR is not sacked in the summer so he can have time to prove "supporters" like you wrong. No doubt we're improving under him and he hasn't even been in a year. In Brendan we trust!

You fool. He just brought a chance for Gerrard that in 99/100 would have been a goal.

11 Feb 2013 21:52:51
If there was any doubt, it was removed after this performance. we are miles away from being a CL team. Couldn't even put a number on how far away we are from contending for the title or any other meaninful honours. Another season and by February we are just riding out the rest of the games.

We desperately point to our proud history but, the reality is LFC has been a team in decline for the last several years. Poor management, medicore players on ridiculous wages, no vision, no plan, no originality.

Pathetic really.

I agree, except it takes time to turn a large hip around and I think this though applies to Liverpool at the moment. The key is buying right and I don't think we've done that for many years. We'll see but Borini and Allen are worries for me for the price we paid. Could have bought another quality forward for those two which is what we clearly need.

You forgot to mention AVERAGE owners.

Yeah you are pathetic. One bad game after two very good performances. Support!

Lucky to get in capital 1 cup on that performance

Lol. I meant to say ship NOT hip!

Henderson and Downing where amongst our best players on the night.

11 Feb 2013 21:52:12
Brendan rogers is a joke playing 4 players who play in centre mid against west brom

Spot on mate

That is why we struggled to convert any of our chances

We controlled the game but we went back 2 months in time playing with one striker who today didn't have his goalscoring boots on

Johnson looked legging
Enrique had a shocker - gave the ball away too many times
Agger missed a great chance / lost his man for the first goal / got bullied off for the 2nd goal
Shelvey - looks lost
Borini - needs 2 seasons to make an impact

Leam Red

Agree with everything -apart from borini. He could spend the next ten years with us and still be hopeless. I'm a fan of rovers, but the reason we look good with sturridge is that it is just a better system. So learn from that and don't go back to where we were before. The shots statistic is nonsense. We have had that all year, but never look like scoring -same tonight. We are easy to defend against. simples!

11 Feb 2013 21:51:59
What a load of sh, t, how bad was that WBA couldn't buy a win b4 this game, I bet teams can't wait to play us,, top 4 I don't think so

Some more world class defending from our world class defenders ha

Agger johnson enroque are rubbishhhhh

Borini what a joke how did he become a footballer?

Will need a whole new back 5 in the summer

Haha comedy

What did borini do wrong exactly?

Agger, johnson, enrique, all lack a "football brain" they are clueless

11 Feb 2013 21:51:24
Rodgers post match:

We were brilliant, the players were fantastic. I can't ask for more from these players.

What a chump!

Is he afraid to hurt the players' feelings or what? He should be telling it how it is like Mancini.

Goes to show he hasn't got the bowls to take us to the next level.

person alright!

Hate when managers show too much respect to opposing teams too (Not exclusive to Liverpool managers per se), Managers should be telling the players "this is a team we should be beating, go out there and steamroller them", but no they say "Just be weary you don't get caught on the yada yada yada", putting doubt in the minds of their players.

It's stupid!

Just watching the game can we honestly say we are any better now than last season the season before or even the season before that we seem to be very good in possesion but with no real threat

11 Feb 2013 21:51:13
Return of the "Inform Anfield 'Keeper" bug from last season? Remember how many opposition 'keepers last season had MOTM performances?

Bye bye champions league. let's face it. We are a midtable team.

Na, not mid table but I think 7th is where we are behind
Utd. , City, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton, then Liverpool.

That's how I see the season going for us.

11 Feb 2013 21:50:49
Glen johnson was a joke

11 Feb 2013 21:50:41
Wow. That's a bit hard to take. Pointing the finger of blame doesn't get you very far, but Aggers marking has been pretty sloppy this term. Great on the ball, but shouldn't be forgetting what his main role is! We really missed Sturridge. At least we've still got the Europa League - for a week or so anyway!

Nick

11 Feb 2013 21:50:18
Shocking totally inept. Gerrard far too casual cost us 3 points. As for Borini woeful waste of money. Job too big for Rodgers thought it and said it all season.

Always next season.

Absolutely hopeless. to lose like this is a disaster. BR needs to accept responsibility for a poor performance. Champions League my foot BR!

There are more holes in Reina than there are in a tea bag

Worst I've seen Suarez play this season, and its a toss up between Enrique and Johnson for worst performance by any Liverpool player since BR took over, absolutely dire.

I would say Johnson's performance tonight is the worst I have ever witnessed by a LFC player in the last 40 years

11 Feb 2013 21:49:10
I really don't want to hear all these people sticking up for Liverpool and BR. Its as simple as this - we are exactly where we deserve in the league. I don't care about performance, I don't care about lookin good, playin good, I really don't. The only things I care about is POINTS because that's what's puts us up the table. Arsenal and Spurs ground out results at the weekend -WE DIDNT. Sickened. So we will solidify 8th place. Tired of hearing BR saying we are improving bla bla bla. I'm in no doubt we are still in serious trouble as a club.

11 Feb 2013 21:49:09
Worst Liverpool performance I have seen. Jamesy

11 Feb 2013 21:49:08
Never seen so many players having an off day. don't enrique and johnson know how to pass to a red shirt. Everything coming down the flanks and aimless crosses into the box, that is when someone eventually does get a cross in. Suarez having a poor game along with Gerrard and what Shelvey brought to the game I don't know (other than offside). don't know how but someone really needs to come up with a plan to beat teams who come to anfield to just defend and smash and grab a winner

11 Feb 2013 21:48:19
Well there you go another terrible result. I have aged another 5 years tearing my hair out. Emotion talking right now but we should sell the whole lot of them. Hope they get booed off. Really pissed off right now.

Dont be ridiculous you child. yeah its a bad result but you don't say sell the whole team that's just pathetic, grow up, move on. d. m. h

West brom have now done the double over us this season, and the pts the blue noses dropped to Manchester United will not benefit us at all. Toothless display, I hope Brendan rips em a new one. Training should start at 5am tomorrow :|

It is emotion talking apart we were better by a mile.

11 Feb 2013 21:48:14
Well there you go. poor beyond.

Deserved to lose as we couldn't score nor defend.

We lost to West Brom!

It shows how far we have declined.

We don't belong anywhere near the CL.

What did I say -one good game at MCity doesn't make a season.

We have the wrong manager and substandard players excepting a couple of players.

Lets face facts- we are nothing better than a mid table side. Utterly humiliating.

M

Did you even watch the game?

We had 20+ attempts, they had about 4. We stopped them getting any attempts until the 80th minute, but you're saying our defence was poor? I'd rather say that Foster saved them getting hammered.

As for the comment about the manager, would you still be saying that if Reina hadn't have lost us the game at City?

It's you lot that throw away your support so easily that ruin the reputation of us fans and ruin the banter page on this site on match days.

ChrisMiz

Did you watch the same game you muppet?

11 Feb 2013 21:59:39
no side with luis suarez is a mid table side. underacheiving side yes

Grow up, you will only big brendan up when we win so what's the point in slagging him off now? d. m. h

I've never 'bigged up' BR - KK should never have been sacked in the first place.

It's supporters like you guys who accept medicocrity and defeat.

We as supporters have every right to criticise the team and manager for their woeful inadequacy.

You guys castigate me as you're happy to simply plod along treading water - ridiculous!

You show no ambition and that's what you get - defeat and humiliation.

BR is out of his depth.

M

No, what you've done is taken the result only and blown it out of context. One result does not indicate that we are a mediocre team, nor does the fact that we dominated that team until the 80th minute and stopping them getting ANY chances.

Now tell me that we deserved to lose and therefore are a bad team.

ChrisMiz

11 Feb 2013 21:48:07
4th place my arse.

11 Feb 2013 21:47:46
You can talk about how well we've been playing as much as you like the fact is we aren't getting the results and I'm afraid the buck stops with the manager.
And to all those who are going to disagree and say that Rodgers is class well I'm afraid you have no evidence to back up such a statement.
He's achieved nothing and to be quite honest he always says the same old crap that I've heard before from rubbish managers

How is that Rodgers fault in any way?
We dominated and missed a hatfull of chances before getting sucker punched. You will see us play worse and win 3-0 next week.
derryred

How can the buck stop with the manager, he only changed 1 player to the team that drew with City. It's all about the players. didn't deserve to wear the shirt tonight.

What a shock, it's pathetic how one dimensional we are when only Suarez is the striker, Borini is non existent since comin on, sterling is going to fade out too I think

Maybe I'm just annoyed but top 4? We'll do well to finish in the top 6, how can we play so well against city and arsenal and back to this, 1 massive step forward and 2 back

One step forward one step back.

Not good enough, simple. Closer to the bottom than 4th.

11 Feb 2013 21:47:00
Story of the season - can't defend corners, can't score from them.

Cannot blame Rodgers tonight - the players need to take a long hard look.

The book stops with the manager

LFC's corners both attacking wise and defensive wise have been rubbish for years

11 Feb 2013 21:46:48
Liverpool you truly are shocking!
Forget top 4 it'll be a struggle to make top 8 and even all the die hards no it.
Shelvey out and take borini with you but the big loss will be Suarez who will no doubt be off in the summer.
You can all reply with your hopeful optimistic comments but be honest that performance was pure rubbish and i'm sure everyone including me thought at least a 2-0 win tonight.

11 Feb 2013 21:46:35
get rid of brenda, Dalglish though came 8th we played better went to 2 cup finals and hit the post crossbar more than any other side.

Well done Brendan I can't wait to here your analysis on this one, you can't blame the youngsters this time!

Hate to say it but I'm afraid Brendan Rodgers needs to have a long look in the mirror tonight and ask himself has he moved Liverpool forward this year, the answer is NO

Curled1

No let's not blame the youngsters, how about we blame our captain for missing a penalty. If he had of scored that we would of won, simple as that.

We also created 20 attempts, I don't see how you can blame Rodgers for that, some of the stick has to go to the players sometimes

Brendan Brendan your team has no urgency no motivation today to win. This is why 4th place talk is going to end today. This defeat is your fault as you have not addressed the fact the players are not up for it.

11 Feb 2013 21:44:53
Wasteful play, poor defending. Bog standard Rodgers Liverpool performance.

-Shane.

11 Feb 2013 21:44:28
1 step forward, 2 steps backwards all the time.

Do we even practice taking corners and penalties? Do we even practice defending corners?

All the good work we have done recently undone. Felt like we actually made progress recently - but the game tonight was exactly like last season. All the possession and shots but no end product. West Brom have a 2 shots on target and score, from a corner! We have endless shots and loads of corners and nothing!

So disappointed.

11 Feb 2013 21:44:19
Can anyone tell me what Borini doing in place of Hendo?

r-r

I knew the moment he brought Borini on we were doomed! Not his fault he's not good enough, Rogers paid £11 million for a completely inept player because he worked with him in the championship! Henderson was having a decent game! Terrible decisions by the manager I'm afraid!

11 Feb 2013 21:43:35

missing. fabio aurellio.
the last Liverpool LB who actually whipps some awesome crossed to the box.
enrique haven't done one yet so far.

Yeah it is starting to drive me mad. He takes far too much out of the ball, in fairness so does Johnson. When a simple 4 yard pass in on Enrique turns and decides to shield it instead.

I hate the rat faced manc as much as anyone but his half time analysis of the lack of players in the box is spot on.

He talked about full on piercing runs that should be made and aren't being done. the very runs Man United make every game.

We can't and shouldn't have to rely on Sturridge to be the only player capable of proper support. This is the difference we need to bridge to be anywhere near the mancs. simples

1st half and not sure why the commentator said WBA deserve to bill level. No goals but totally dominated. Gave the ball away too much but still fighting to get it back. It's more of a case of our missed opportunities with final balls than good defending

Well what sort of atmosphere do you expect when we've been playing like that for the past 4 seasons? Fans pay good money to see us put in a good performance, see us tear teams to shred and play with an attractive style; but instead they go to see rubbish.

SR (AKA StrabaneRed)

It's those darn kids always looking at their phones

11 Feb 2013 20:51:13
I'd love to see us play a sort of 4-2-3-1 sort of formation.
With Reina in goal.
Johnson, Carra, Agger and Enrique as the back four.
In a sort of CDM kind of role we could have Lucas and Gerrard.
The 3 attacking midfielders would be Suarez, Coutinho and Henderson.
Then up front just in front of that trio we would have Sturridge.

What do you guys think?
Cheers,
TedRed.

11 Feb 2013 21:23:35
lets win tonight game.
and then we shall discuss about formation.

11 Feb 2013 20:51:08
what is wrong with Enrique, can't pass and completely incapable of beating his man and sending in a cross,
swap Enrique with Johnson, bring on wisdom, take off shelvey bring on coutinho or borini

Take off all 11 payers and replace with decent players

11 Feb 2013 20:51:05
That was totally not good enough, beaten to every 50 50 and out passed and out muscled at home. Can't believe how many individual errors there have been, not being defeatist just realistic guys, if this continues into the second half we WILL get beaten tonight and this is a game we HAVE to win.

11 Feb 2013 20:50:03
Seriously need to change things at half time because we clearly don't have the killer instinct in the box. Shelvey crosses it in and there absoloutly no one in the box. ? We need attacking flair, someone who can beat a player, hmm oh yeah coutinho.

11 Feb 2013 20:49:34

11 Feb 2013 20:29:03
Here's an idea - let's get this to happen somehow (I don't know how).

For the last game at Anfield this season - and Carra's last game, I think everybody should have 'Carragher' printed on their shirt. Its a bit of fun, a nice tribute and we finally get to see a team of Carraghers. Its just a one-off and a tribute to a great Premiership player.

Any ideas on how we could get this going?

Cheers all,

King Tubby

11 Feb 2013 20:16:41
Shelvey gives it away more than Katie Price!

Lyndon

11 Feb 2013 20:09:42
Wow Rodgers have no confidence on his signings and still plays Kk team. Instead of replacing Sturridge with another striker (borini) he plays Shelvey as false no. 9 oh dear what happen to allen, Borini, assaidi do they even have future at Lfc or like Sahin will be shown door. {Ed001's Note - you do know Borini has been injured for a while and is still finding his way back don't you? What happened to Liverpool fans? What is with all this whining?}

11 Feb 2013 20:09:09
Every time I watch mulumbu looks a really tidy player. {Ed001's Note - he touched the 'This is Anfield' sign on the way in.....}

I agree I really like him. would be a decent summer addition

tom1975

11 Feb 2013 20:07:36
ed. any idea. why shelvey is ahead of borini.
we need to score goals to win the games.
suerly borini is a striker. and shelvey is a midfielder.

or is it. that. borini is one for the future.

11 mill? {Ed001's Note - 11 mill? What does that mean? Pathetic whiny add on to the end. He is one for the future, 11mill is hardly a lot for a full Italian international striker.}

11 Feb 2013 21:16:29
hah. full italian internationa?
to be included in the 23 man list.
has he ever played for italy? {Ed002's Note - Of course.}

11 Feb 2013 19:59:15
Did anyone else notice that Suarez didn't touch the this is Anfield sign but then Mulumbu did. {Ed002's Note - No doubt news of the swap will come later.}

Suarez can't reach it :)

11 Feb 2013 19:44:50
Our only real attacking option tonight is Suarez.

Yep, not happy with Jonjo in that position considering he hasn't been able to even get on the pitch in ages.

Shows what BR thinks of Boroni :-0

The crowd is really flat.

I'm not knocking any players but downing is such a boring player :- (

Dats right the so called kenny's flops start regularly when the so called fantastic rodgers signings are on the bench. Shelvey starting before borini says it all

I totally agree with your post this is last years team, BR brought allen borini ( was injured) sahin assaidi they have not made any difference, this kk progress

I don't like original post much, but I also can't refute it. Hopefully Coutinho is more like a Sturridge-signing than an Assaidi signing (who appears to have not even made the bench tonight).

just a quickie Eds, 2-0 to Liverpool suarez and counthino of the bench tonite. you herd it here first, what are your thoughts?

The 4th goal is definitely offside Ed2, can't believe it will be allowed to stand! And Suarez' own goal from 40 yards, well that is going to be special.

our biggest bitf of business in summer would be keeping suarez!

11 Feb 2013 18:38:49
Where do people think BR will play Coutinho?

He looks great as a left winger, but he likes to cut too, and he also looks very good playing through the middle too, as a sort of no 10.

If Downing or Assaidi play really well, won't BR feel tempted to try the Brazilian as an attacking midfielder?
And if it's not Downing, then who will give way if Coutinho becomes a regular starter?

TC

I don't know where BR will play him, but I wouldn't mind seeing him slightly behind Sturridge and Suarez in a CAM-ish role in a sort of 4-3-1-2.

On the bench by the look of it ;)

Seen Coutinho and Lucas in subway today in town as I do most mondays and spoke to Them (obviously to Lucas with the language barrier) and they both seem really happy about the future of the club and the prospect and building for the future with younger players being purchased but he said it feels weird with Thr carragher retiring thing and that he hopes becomes a coach.

Hi Eds, thanks for doing a great job on the site. A grat daily read!

Just wondering if you had any upto date information on the stadium redelopment. What capacity will it be? Which stnds will be increased? When are they looking tosart building work? When will it be completed?

Cheers.

There may be a little work done next sommer but I would expect work to begin in May 2014 and everything to be finally complete for in late Jly (perhaps the 28th), 2016. The colour red will feature prominently.}

The fact the we haven't beaten a top 10 side this season is mentioned a lot, it would be nice to get that monkey off the managers back. In fact we could beat 2 sides in the top half in the same week hopefully starting with West Brom tonight.
At the start of the season I felt top 4 was always going to be a step too far for a new manager, but if the lads manage to put a run of wins together against West Brom (H), Swansea (H) and Wigan (A) it will certainly make the Spurs game at Anfield a bit more interesting.
All that been said tonight's opponents will be no pushovers i'd take a 1-0 instead of demanding 4 or 5.

Hi Eds & Reds,

Is Gulacsi not seen as a viable option for the GK position? He's not too young to play IMO so is he not part of the plans? Havent really been able to tell if he's any good from the games I watched him play for the reserves so would appreciate anyone with an informed opinion on him.

Hi there,
If I'm not mistaken, rodgers once said that he want to buy a world class playmaker in the summer. Do you think that with the purchase of coutinho, the search for a playmaker at a "no 10" has ended?
Thanks for the reply. YNWA {Ed002's Note - Given Coutinho has been given the number 10 shirt I would think it unlikely that Liverpool are in the market for his replacement just yet.}

Man Utd have won the league because the opposition has been poor.

The Premier League is way behind La Liga, the Bundesliga, Serie A etc.

Yet England are doing well under Hodgson.

Red Route

11 Feb 2013 19:21:09
doesnt matter if the league is poor. we are 8th so what does that say about us? they are still the best in pl so doesn't matter how crap they are because they're still 12 points clear from every one else

Its not fue Premier league, its the refree in the Premier league, the refree always do desitions on Man pu favor, not a big desition guey are not doinit right now, becouse they don't needit, bit small desition that's allow Man pu progres goes better and consistent as well so gurú can score, loor the way guey did at villa park, southampton, west ham and etc, 4 example valencia crash to Johnson iré defineteley on Liverpool side was that crash, he stop from his hand so johnson dosnt get fue ball and at the eñe when he cudnt he throw himself on the floor and taking wif him to Johnson, he scremed so he get it on his favor, and he at the same time recuested a yellow, and when it didn't happen you have 2 c his face, 1st the incident wasnt Johnson foul valencia get it, and disapointed when yellow oye not shown from sonthing valencia started, so Man pu players including their mánager act so but so arrogant so this way all the desicition goes on furor way, but this kind of desition dosnt hallen on euro, and we will c how different their arrogancie will b.

Yes the league is poor. All we can do (at United) is win games and finish top. We are 12 points ahead of City after 26 games, and almost 30 points ahead of Liverpool. So, if the league is so poor what exactly does that say about your club?

Big game against West Brom today. No bigger than the last or than the next, but let's face it, we have 38 big games in PL every season!

I think Sturridge will either be on the bench or rested, and I for one would like to see Borini given a shot alongside Suarez, with Downing supporting (Enrique and Johnson are our wingers after all). Shelvey could get the nod over Sturridge, or even Sterling for that matter. I just think Borini needs a proper go, and the more he's on the pitch the better.

Coop

Sturridge should be playing seeing as he's not available for the Europa League.

Won't happen but would love to see Yesil given a go tonight if Sturridge doesn't play.
This is not because I underestimate West Brom but because I think Yesil is massively talented {Ed002's Note - You are right that it won't happen.}

Heard from somewhere Yesil torned his ACL, don't know if its true or not, any eds can help me here? even if he havent, i'm pretty sure he needs more experience before going in to the first team.

Kaizer

ACL, out for 9 month.

Unfortunatley Yesil is injured!

I hadn't heard about the Yesil injury

Very bad injury for someone of his age

Ah its true then, wish him a good recovery then. its a bad injury, but I think if looked after well, can come back the same player. he has potential, hope he gets back stronger.

Kaizer

It's heartbreaking for the kid, an injury like that could have a massive impact on his progression and his future with the club, gutting!

So sad to hear that, I had the same injury and right after that broken knee and my future was set to end, I hope yesil does good job and recover : (

11 Feb 2013 16:10:30
Another injury thanks to a pointless friendly, hope Yesil recovers soon. It's always sad to see players suffer a major injury, especially for players as young as Yesil. Hope he comes back bigger and better.

11 Feb 2013 14:52:09
With Carragher's impending retirement and Coates leaving, on loan or permanently I would hope that Kelly and/or Wisdom be given a chance in the centre. Flannagan or McLaughlin would be able to be understudy to Johnson at RB. At least that would leave us some money to improve the squad depth in other areas.

As I see it BR has a problem with the lack of leadership within the back 4, hence why Carras back, I don't suppose there is any interest in Radu of Lazio? He is a class act and can cover at LB easily.

Thanks for a great site eds

We are a strange bunch sometimes - Agger is a legend because he refused a move to City and got YNWA on his knuckles. Jay Spearing desperately wants to play for us, but if he rejected a move some of you lot would be furious and call him all the names out there!

Why don't we just pick and choose the players we want to love LFC? Either we want players with that attitude or not?! Can't have it both ways!

You're right, and I'll support Jay Spearing on the pitch as he long as he's at and loves the club. But that doesn't mean I want him at the club more than, say, Christian Eriksen. Sentimentality will only take us so far, and fans need to make tough decisions just as much as managers do; the fact is, Jay Spearing isn't a good enough player for the position I want the club to be in, and Daniel Agger is. I'd never call Agger a legend for having YNWA on his knuckles and I highly suspect that Spearing has a greater love for this club than Agger does. But the reality, however harsh, is that we need quality more than we need pure commitment. It's clearly a reality that FSG accept or they would never have sacked Kenny for BR.

Red Ollie

No one doubts jays commitment to the club, unfortunately he's just not good enough and pride/passion can only carry you so far. If he stays fair enough and if he leave's (my preference) good luck to him.

Eds/Reds was just wondering

If Liverpool win all 38 games next year will we win the league or will Fergie find a way of accumilating more points than us?

HPH

11 Feb 2013 15:07:31
The FA will be tipped off by a little known spanish journalist "Alexis Fergusono" that Luis Suarez was overheard in a pub on a night out arguing with United supporters. After taking abuse from the supporters, insulting his mother, family and country, Suarez claimed he said "go away man", however the supporters claimed he said "go away Manc", which indeed is a well known slur. Due to this, Liverpool will have 20 points deducted - 100 points after the failed appeal, and Liverpool will be relegated. United will be given these points due to the heroics of their brave, battered and abused supporters - they will win what will more than likely be their 21st title, and Fergie will retire following his greatest victory to date.

Yea I think we can all see this happening, Its so blatently obvious lol

Over the summer period Brendan Rodgers was spotted in Athletic Bilbao's training ground but I was in spain at the time in the summer and went to a fancy restaurant where in the corner of my eye Brendan Rodgers and the new Xabi (ANDER HERRERA) going for a meal together I stayed for the time that he was there and as I noticed him leaving I got up and ran over to get a picture with him and to what I believed it was ANDER HERRERA. This could be a possible signing. What do you think Ed? {Ed002's Note - I think the orange sunshine is kicking in.}

Half discussion, half rumour post here-

Part 1: I've been told that the FA have contacted Carragher about taking up a coaching role/completing some qualifications up at St George's park next year. Anyone heard anything similar?

Part 2: If Sturridge doesn't start tonight, what's everyones opinion on who will fill in? My guess is Shelvey starting with Henderson/Shelvey rotating among the front 3.

Borini, Suarez and Downing, then Gerrard, Lucas and Henderson in MF.

Hearing that Rafa is on his way back in a scouting/ambassadorial role. His prime transfer target is Ander Herrera from Bilbao. Remember guys on 'Being Liverpool' Rodgers mentioned his links to spain and Bilbao inparticular? Herrera would be a fantastic signing in my opinion very similar to Xabi!

Hope this is true! Rafa is a top scout! What do you think the chances are Ed?

Ya! That would be great for the Manager having him hovering around in the Background!

Cant wait rafa will scout spain, then we will offer fergie a scouting position in britian, cappelo will do Italy, Pele and Maradona can do south america, arisen can do France and morinho can do Portugal.

Michael Ngoo 3 goals in four games

he will get a contract extension and will go out on loan next season to a championship side

then probably on loan again to a premier side where he will be able to get the match time he needs

then he will be a first team player for Liverpool.

other players that will go through a similar process is. Teixeira, Adorjan, Sama, Robinson, Flanagan, Pelosi, Lussey, Petersen, smith.

other players who could follow sterling's path might be; Ibe, Sinclair, Yesil, Dunn, McLaughlin.

all those players will be at Liverpool until at least until they are 22-23 as they all have promise to be first teamer's and the club will make sure that they try & develop as many of them as they can for the future of Liverpool's success as a self sustaining club.

before all of you think i'm talking about out my arse then you have to take a look at the Spanish and Italian clubs. The Spanish clubs sell their players from their b-teams with a low buy back clause, while the Italian teams sell half the rights to other Serie A teams so that their prospects will have better chance of playing as the other team will have invested in them therefore they would also want them to be a success.

Just finished reading Jamie autobiography. Really refreshing to hear a player talk about the game with such honesty and intelligence and a truely great read.
He also reminded me of how much Houllier changed our club for the better before his illness got the better of him. Anyway just thought it was worth a mention, enjoy the game later. Jaffer81

Read Robbie's book, you might not think Mr Houllier is quite as good.

Sooty

Its personal opinion. Stevie rates him as the best manager he has played under.
FowlerisGod

Hi sooty, I've read Robbies book and agree with what you say about how badly he was treated.
I do however think that Houllier changed a lot of things for the better around the club but as people have said its just a matter of opinion.
Hopefully we are in for a good result tonight. Take care guys. Jaffer81

Why would people disagree?! He does
FowlerisGod

Robbie wasn't quick enough after his injury to play Houlier's counter attacking set up. Robbie was a fantastic striker, but weight issues after his summer holidays, didn't always endear him to Houlier

Afternoon Eds.

One of the most disappointing features of the season so far has been the lack of playing time and opportunities that have been given to Assaidi. Now I know that he was injured but do you have a feeling for whether BR rates him and whether he will get the chance to play. He certainly looked a talent when he arrived.

Thanks Eds - great job {Ed002's Note - He is a squad member who has just joined the club, been injured and been away in South Africa. His chance will come when the manager thinks he is needed or he may decide it is not for him and move on - which would not be a surprise.}

I was so happy everton didn't had the money to buy negredo.
or else they should have got TOP4.

If Br wanted to play Borini in the right side.
y on earth we never bough mirallas?
he lookes top quality yesterday.
5, 5 mill better than 11 mill for future.

is it coz. its just everton?
ridiculous.
kevin mirallas looks a top quality player. wether he wears a red or blue jersey.
some her think. enrique is better than baines.

I think it might be more down to how injury prone Mirallas is, and like us Everton are stretched a bit thin so really need players like him to be up to the strains of the EPL.

I'd be very miffed if any of our signings were out as long as Mirallas is (like Borini).

Nothing to do with him being a Blue, but I agree Enrique can be more promising that Baines who does blow hot and cold for them lot.

But what if Everton win their next two as well? World doesn't stop for us ;)

I think it's going to be between us and them for 5th/6th in the coming weeks. As sickening as it sounds, it will likely be decided by the result of the next derby.

or as they will call it "The Finish-Above-Liverpool" Cup Final :)

dearly hoping we do them this time.

Everton don't play again in the league until we have played our next two league games and we are 6 points behind them with a better goal difference therefore we will go above them if we win our next 2 games.

If sturridge doesn't get a start today.
I would want to see borini getting a nod up over sterling or downing.
Poeple say you are one for the future, injury, potential. blah blah blah.
keep everything aside.
he needs to show what he is today. simple as that.
show your worth of being 11 mill.
score few goals. since you are a striker. and you must.

11 Feb 2013 11:16:10
Nope mate if we are serious and hungry for champions league and if sturridge is rested then Suarez should play as main striker with sterling and downing, Borini playing in wings is ineffective or playing him as main striker is joke cosidering Suarez form. It seems to me that your more focussed on Borini then our mighty club. We have to think what is best for Liverpool rather then players at the moment Borini is down the pecking order

He's been injured.

Anyway, the lad gets into some cracking positions and will continue to do so IF played in his favourite position.

His goals will come, I've no doubt about that.

It's about confidence and a change of league and surroundings doesn't help.

11 Feb 2013 10:11:13
Upon 'googling' the Liverpool FC site, I discovered this column.

Interesting though.

Personally, I still think the current manager would have chosen completely different players.

Discuss boys 'n' girls.

Steve Clarke believes Liverpool are now the form side in the Premier League - thanks to Kenny Dalglish's signings.

West Brom boss Clarke was Dalglish's assistant at Anfield from January 2011 until last summer.

They got the bullet despite winning the League Cup and losing the FA Cup Final to Chelsea.

They were sacked by the Reds' American owners for coming eighth in the Premier League - 37 points behind champions Manchester City.

Their £70million spending spree on Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing, Jose Enrique and Andy Carroll was also heavily criticised.

Striker Carroll was bombed out on loan to West Ham this season.

But Luis Suarez was an instant success at Liverpool and has added a further 22 goals this term. And the recent fine form of Henderson, Downing and Enrique has helped Liverpool lose just once in seven League games.

Clarke insisted ahead of Albion's trip to Anfield tonight: "I am not surprised at all.

"Some of the more experienced ones that Kenny signed, it can take a period of time for players to settle into a club the size of Liverpool.

"Luis Suarez has really settled in the club. But now Stewart Downing is in the team and Jordan and Jose Enrique are doing really well.

"You can see the team is now starting to gel. At this stage Liverpool are probably playing the best football in the Premier League.

"They had a difficult start but they have picked up and now they are doing really well. " Current boss Brendan Rodgers is trying to get Liverpool to play more passing football.

But Clarke added: "Brendan went in there with what people said was a different philosophy to Kenny.

"I think Liverpool have always played good football though. They always try to play good football, they did that under Kenny. "

Clarke and Dalglish expected to remain in charge this season but were ruthlessly axed.

Clarke said: "We had two cup final appearances. One was victorious, one was a defeat. Fans enjoy the big occasions and when you are at a big club like Liverpool you should be competing for all the big honours. "

What influence is contributing to the present form?

typical. opposition manager.
even Sir alex says. that Liverpool are improving.

And the biggest honour was for lfc to finish as high as possibke in the league and they flopped at that, that's what really matters. Finishing in the top 4 to show you are a top club and the. Fa cups etc, unless it was the european cup we were competing for, what is the league cup? Birmingham won it and got relegated, league cup doesn't prove f-all. Kenny's signings were poor apart from comolli's signings, i. enrique and suarez. Only 1 of kenny's signings might make it and that's henderson. RedTurk

Funny that Henderson, Downing and Enrique are still picked by the new manager.

Whats happened to Sahin. Allen, Assaidi and Borini.

I hope that all these players (except Sahin) make it - but until they do you can't show that BR has done any better in the transfer market.

Support the club

Stop slating Dalglish

You do know that Sahin's loan was terminated? And Assaidi has been ill / off in Africa for the ACON.

I can certainly see Steve Clarke's point regarding the Kenny Dalglish signings. Regardless of age, there are always going to be some players who take longer to settle at a club than others. This has been verified time and time again. Not all players can succeed and adjust as rapidly as Luis Suarez, or indeed, Brendan's signing, Daniel Sturridge. Lucas Leiva and Jordan Henderson are good examples of players who can take a little longer to come into their own. The same criterion should be applied to Brendan's acquisitions too, of course. We may not see the best of Joe Allen and company this season, but may see far more from them next season. I also agree with Steve Clarke regarding the significance of Cup competitions for Liverpool Football Club and for those of the club's supporters who actually enjoy seeing the club win trophies. Historically, Liverpool's Cup successes have always been welcomed and celebrated to such an extent that it is extremely difficult to think of the club without those successes. Winning any trophy is a measure of success and should never be taken for granted. The idea that somehow winning the League Cup, for example, is something to be ashamed of is mistaken. Certainly all of Liverpool's great players of the 70s and 80s were anything but ashamed of their successes in the League Cup, and those of us who were fortunate enough to travel down to Wembley last season will have relished the success. The champions League's financial incentive may be attractive, and correctly so given the colossal costs of running a club the size of Liverpool, but actually winning tournaments should never be under-estimated.

Kenny players (signings) are coming good despite the fact that BR in the public domain (press) told them he did not want them.

Kenny was never given a fair crack yes he made some mistakes what manager does not make mistakes?

SAF has mad loads of mistakes but he's still up the road

Wenger has assembed a team full of average players and he's still there

Cut the King some slack it the least he deserves

Yes I do know Sahins loan was terminated - exactly my point.

It's interesting reading on here all the posters who think we will receive a fee for Coates, there used to be a TV programme called Fantasy Island, I think that's where they all live!

Remember Cole, Aquilani, Poulsen - we had to pay their new clubs to take them, it will be no different with Coates, unfortunately.

Welcome to the real world.

Coates is not bad as people are making out, last year he was superb especially against stoke. He needs to play consistant not sit on bench for ages then expect him to perform even the likes of skirtel and agger are struggling despite being one of the best defenders last year. I personally feel its more about systeam then players, Rodgers likes playing highline but their is no cover for our defenders from midfield when you keep in mind our fullbacks are all the time in opposition half and no cover from midfield any defender in the world is going to struggle. Most teams in epl play with 5 midfields so that makes even worse because its our 3 midfield vs their 5 playing highline with no cover that's a suicidal mate

the problem of some of the fans here are.
whenever we sign someone.
we start bringing stats, past history, banners, looking for the future. blah blah.
lets be honest,. ,.
luis suarez is the only player. who mad the real impact constatntly from past 2 season.
all otehr bought had some good some bad, some good and some bad.
simple.

You really have no idea, do you?

We will indeed recieve a fee for Coates, despite not making it into the Liverpool team consistently he is highly rated (maybe not by B. R) and sought after.

I would expect around 5 million given that we paid 7 for him and his value won't have improved, but given his age and ability it shouldn't be much less than we paid.

I reckon rooney reacts the same as tatoo when the united squad are travelling out to their european games.

Cuchulainn's Hounds

Coates has all the poise of a horse falling down some stairs. He's simply not suited to the EPL, always a mistake in him. I would sooner give Kelly or Wisdom a chance at Centre-half than that lanky clown.

Ha I didn't realise that you were that far +GMT in NZ mate!

red snake

Yeah its hard watching the reds play at 530am every sunday. haha always in the dogbox but I love it

2xboo

Really? He is a young & full international in the early stages of a contract that isn't excessive, with interest from South America, England & poss Italy + Spain. A very different situation compared to aquilani & poulsen, for example

EDs, As we are talking about replacement on GK in this summer.

How's possible on chance of Lars Unnerstall from Schalke 04? {Ed002's Note - I cannot reasonably be expected to answer questions regarding players thrown out at random.}

I watched Schalke v Bayern at the weekend as well ;)

Eds, do you think if rodgers does well by the end of the season we could see him getting a large transfer kitty in the summer? {Ed002's Note - It really doesn't work like that.}

Eds?
Any thoughts on Matej Vydra, just watched some of his goals for Watford this season. Has he got enough strength for the premier league?

I hope that Coutinho settles quickly as from what I have seen of him he is very talented. I watched him a few times for Espanyol and of course Inter. He is a game changer but will he adapt to the Prem, I hope he does.

Does any of the reds think the new kits that are appearing online for next season are genuine? Also I have just seen a comment by a fan on a web site mentioning the colour of the present kit being "a bit too orange rather than the "blood red" of past kits. "Must admit it hadn't really ocurred to me but now he mentioned it I tend to agree.
I know it might be trivial but fans buying these kits contribute a lot to LFC income and its upto Warrior to make them as popular as they can especially by getting the traditional colour correct

Liverno1

The only money the club gets from shirt sales is if they are purchased from the clubs shop, other than that we don't see a penny of it.

I agree about the colour been brighter but I quite like it personally.

Fester

I really like our home kit this year, but then I liked our last adidas one with the inlayed diamonds, was quite rare to get a unique one from them, not just a chelsea/stoke/wba re-spray!

One complaint is that I wish the main body of the shirt was made from the same stuff as the arms. The main body material doesn't half catch lint/random threads in the wash.

hi just found this link on a different part of the site, give it a look.

Pepe Reina, Be Careful What You Wish For
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6P5tGv2SSqI

for the pepe haters we have played 25 league games. all I want is 5 goals where he was at fault and who you would replace him with.

this way the haters can show us why pepe needs to go and who we need in between the sticks, while the fans can try and find similar faults with his replacement.

who is in?

IMO we only know how good pepe is wnen he is not in goal for us.

KUMBER

Personally, I don't want Reina to leave, I want him back!

I'm not sure who the doppleganger we've had in goal the last few seasons is, but give me back the Reina shown the later half of the video and I'd be just fine with that.

I'm not overly bothered if Reina stays or goes in the summer, but, according to Opta, Pepe Reina has made eight individual errors leading to goals since the start of last season, one of the highest in the league.

I don't think it's so much down to performance, as it is down to people hearing word that Pepe doesn't want to be here anymore.
