Why cant we try for llorente if Carroll goes? Reach for stars,may land on moon?! {Ed052's Note - It won't happen. They are the same type of player. Why get rid of Carroll then if we just get Llorent. }

Surely thats like saying, why get rid of Spearing and sign Joe Allen. Same type of player, but much, much better.

I don't want to sound negative because I'm very optimistic about the BR era and finally having a concrete vision of play moving forward that I felt we lacked the past two seasons (probably longer). I'm genuinely excited about moving forward and watching a dynamic, high tempo, exciting side. But.... No it's like saying they play the same position but have totally different levels of talent and skill sets. Allen has talent and vision, Jay has very little to none of both talent and vision. Llorente like AC is grossly overrated, powerful brute of a striker like AC but has marginally better movement, football intelligence, and foot skills. However both AC and Llorente do not move well when compared to modern-era top forwards. See Spain's failure to deploy him at Euro 2012 as an example of why neither AC or Llorente work in a technical side. I would like to see another PL club sink money into him to watch Llorente flop. BR does not want slow, lumbering forwards. He likes speed, craft, technical ability. He likes forwards that can play inside or outside. He has spoken of these ideals on many occasions. No way AC is in his plans. AC's value in Liverpool's playing style is less than his current market value to other clubs. As a red he could score maybe 5-8 if he stays (he won't though) but he could score 10-15 for another club in a different style that suits his hoofball skill set but the possibility that he could net 10-15 in the league does not mean he should stay and waste our resources. AC and LFC will simply never fit. Admit it and move on. It's just a matter of time before he leaves and the sooner we get rid, the better for all parties. I wish Andy all the best and you should too when he departs. {Ed001's Note - you clearly haven't watched Llorente play! He is nothing like your assessment, typical of a person who sees he is tall and jumps to conclusions! He does have pace, movement, skill on the ball and is far from an 'overrated brute of a striker'. Sad that you think his being unable to get in the best side in the world, who were deliberately not using a striker as a tactical ploy and have many others who couldn't even get in the squad, is any kind of judgement on his ability. Perhaps you should take time to find out the situation in Spain, then you would know that it is virtually impossible to play for the national side unless you are at Barca or Real Madrid. Llorente is far better than you have given him credit for, you would never make a scout!}

Fantastic response, Ed001. I have posted a couple of times about Llorente, saying more or less the same as you, in response to similar posts. I do think, however, that your post should now become the stock response to similar, inaccurate criticisms of this wonderful player.

I think that there is a decent chance of Llorente ending up at Arsenal, United or City, although I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at Barca or Real Madrid. If he ends up in the Premier League, I think that he will haunt us for years to come, a bit like Drogba did, he's that good.

Credit to you, Ed001, along with Ed002, my favourite Ed.

Keep forgetting to sign my posts. The post complimenting Ed001 is mine.

Ginger Rodgers

Why are we trying to sign just players br has worked with. So far the only players we have bid hard cash for is borini, Allen, and sigurdsson. I mean come on. These players are good dont get me wrong but I'm just waiting for the Scott Sinclair bid to be made and I bet he wont be cheap. There are much better players around the world for half the price. Use the scouting system Bren or else just give them all the boot and keep signing players you have worked with before.

Get your facts right liverpool never bid for sigurdsson

majestic69

We didn't bid for Sig because hoffenheim bumped up the price and spurs were willing to match it

Club is undergoing an overhaul of scouting system. A couple of scouts are heading to QPR, we're waiting for the 2 from Man City's gardening leave to finish, and 2 others from Man City who were supposed to come in have now decided to stay with Man City.

My biggest frustration for a number of years is our inability to get value. This summer for example Granit Xhaka went to Gladbach for a third of the price of Allen, and Milan Badelj is off to Hamburg for 3m! Not that I think Allen is a poor player, far from it, but there are others around with similar qualities for a fraction of the £15m we've paid

In BR's defence, he knows exactly what he's getting with Borini and Allen, he knows what they can and can't do, their personality etc and he's almost certain they can improve us, which I won't argue with.

RedSG

Who cares about prices seriously, just because someone is cheaper doesn't mean they would use the saving to buy another player, they are picking players to fit the team and a system, not just seeing how much they can get for a set budget.

earlier, in relation to Dempsey, I suggested it would move things along if he put in a transfer request. In another post (unrelated/unconnected to mine) someone suggested that we didn't want that kind of thing because we didn't like it when Torres did it.
BUT there is NO similarity at all. Dempsey wants to go - everyone, including Fulham's cat knows this. In addition there are approx 20 days of the window left.

Torres, on the other hand, gave no indication of wanting to leave, (IF we assume his lack of form was simply a lack of form) and forced the issue on the LAST day of the window putting us right in the doo-dahs (and that is Commoli and Dalglish's only excuse for the the mind-boggling £35m signing of someone with a few months in the premiership)...so it is
completely different.
Clint - if you want to come, put in a transfer - we want you here

Puzzled

Torres asked to leave the previous summer but was persuaded to stay. The owners knew 6 months before he left that he was unhappy and wanted out.

What is the point of bringing this up again.
Who cares now.

How many times? Chelsea paid for Torres, not Liverpool.

I assume you meant Chelsea paid for Carroll? Always seemed a ridiculous excuse
for a gross overpayment and one that could be trundled out every time a silly price is paid

Can anyone please help me? I am watching the Gabby Logan Show on BBC1 and there is a character named David Bekkem. Can anyone tell me how he is connected to the Olympic Games. He can't string two words together on any subject so why,oh why does he have to appear on a programme with knowledgable people like Michael Johnson?
Dutchmal

Because he's one of the most famous British sportsmen ever and he fought hard to help Britain get the Olympics, so why knock the lad?.............oh and is name is Beckham!

MR EM

He did alot in promoting the games and why are you so bothered?

He's put in a hell of a lot of time and public appearances and may well have been instrumental in London winning the games in the first place and certainly did his part in marketing the Games. On top of that he's a model professional and a brilliant father so as a dad myself I think you should give him a break.

Bang on brand beckham strikes again-co incidence spice girls in closing ceremony-think not-as Jim Royle says hes like s it in a field,-gets everywhere

I think you'll find he played a huge part in helping to secure the games.

Because he's arguably our greatest known athlete globally? Also he played a role in securing the games and should IMO have been picked for the gb team, out of respect, of which Ryan giggs deserves no more of.

SideShowBob

Best of British mate,Best of British.Besides all the ladies love him, all the blokes hate him,he's a Londoner and so he's good for ratings !! B

Is Bekkem the Scandinavian version of 'Beckham'? lol

RedKopite

Jesus Christ... Give the fella a break, no matter what, and it pains me to say it, he was a hell of a player for Man U and England.

Stevie.

It's nice to see that m.u. fans are still looking at this site. The fact is that he has won NOTHING at all for GB. In fact, if he listen he refers continuously to ENGLAND not GB. Everything that he does is in his own interest. I think you'll find that the Games were secured by the likes of Lord Coe and former successful Olympians - he just jumped (again!) on to the band- wagon. I was also a model professional in my work and I am also a brilliant Dad - so what! The fact is also that he is one of the reasons that England weren't awarded the World Cup. He is no more qualified to speak about the Olympic Games than the rest of us. I am not bovvered - just annoyed that he is regarded (although resident in the US) as the ultimate sporting Briton. I reiterate that he has done nothing at all that can be regarded as success to British sport.
Dutchmal

You could say the same about your Lord Coe,boxing all the tickets off elsewhere, this fella coe is as currupt as anybody..

Why does everyone hate Beckham? Because he played for United? So he's seems like a pretty sound bloke. Leave the fella alone

Ron

Beckham is on anything and everything possible because the man has no shame, even when he was on the speed boat during the opening ceremony he had to touch the olympic flame as it was passed on, any chance he could give someone else a chance? this countries fascination with the man is embarrassing, people actually think more of Beckham than truly great men like Churchill, Mandela or Napoleon.

The La La Luvvies here, are talking as if we have won the Prem league already.
Get a grip and lool at the reality check that arrives at the end of October.

Stop moaning you miserable get!

We have won the league already,in fact I think theres only one other team that has won it more than us.

Was quite impressed with Borini the other night, work rate, pace, skill and finishing, as well as positional sense , could be a bargain. Looking forward to Allen pairing up with Lucas, could be as effective as Alonso and Masch, also looks like Agger will stay(see his official twitter page), so I think we could do ok, maybe there is a golden sky at the end of the storm!

Agger isnt on twitter its a fake account. I do think he will stay though.

11 Aug 2012 21:37:03
eds, if rodgers favoured system is to play 4-3-3 with the three at the top comprising of "outside forwards" rather than out and out wingers, do you not feel that this could leave our full backs a little exposed away from home, particularly against teams who play with strong wingers (Nani & Valencia at Man U or Bale at Spurs)?
My view is that a 4-3-3 can become a 4-5-1 but only if the attacking wide players are disciplined enough to do the dirty work.
What are others thoughts on formation and the flexibility of it?

Having watched Swansea a few times last year I feel confident in speculating that Rodgers will have the whole team covering and pressing space, much the same way barca do and how Swansea did last year. Thereby negating the need for traditional wingers.

Nevada

When you adapt a 4-3-3 system properly you should be defending from the front so actually allows fullbacks time and space to play a forward role. With a system that BR plays in closing down the opponent to win back the ball asap then rarely should you see isolated players .The strength in defending in packs means no team should have the time and space to pass through you, the weakness is if you have play a team that holds a deep line and hits he ball long to an outlet as Chelsea did but the trick is to take your chances as they come.

I do not expect us to play the system right early doors but if and when it clicks we could be watching total football. What i would like to see is a Barca style pass and move early on but once we lead a move to the Germany direct pass and move and style.

I feel that this will be a roller coaster season but there will be evidence that we will be moving in the right direction

Spot on mate,i myself have been considering this situation at length and think James McClean would be a good signing as i'm not sure if Downing has any defensive qualities and besides BR seem's to prefer to play him on the left. This also begs the question, would Walcott track back if we signed him ? If only we could get Ramires from Chelsea and turn Micah Richards into a winger.Wishful thinking aye.

Did u not see lucas, Borini and Suarez drop deep on the wings covering for enrique, plus that is why we are going to play 2 holding mids with 4 attackers AM, RFW, LFW, ST.

sorry for this stupid question whats pepecam? {Ed002's Note - Search engine.}

11 Aug 2012 22:26:53
We are going into the new season with players fully fit. Gerrard and Johnson both being the stand out performers for England at the euros. A new manager who understands the modern game (unlike some skeptics out there). Suarez who has signed a new contract. Two new great young hungry acquisitions in Borini and Allen. Lucas fit and already back on form. I predict not only a top 4 finish but a run for the title with the best 11 only kept for the premiership and the likes of carra, kelly, adam, hendo, spearing, sterling and the rest kept for the cups.

It was going so well until the final sentence...

RedKopite

Excellent post, couldn't agree more. It's great to see some positive statements being posted after what seems an age of s***e and negativity.I too believe we can have a realistic tilt at the title this season !! B

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I hope you are right but I dont see us challenging for the title. I would be happy for us to challenge for a top 4 spot - thats being realistic as the likes of Manu, Manc & Chelsea are way ahead of us in squad depth. I think was liverpool fans need to realise where we are at - one major title in 22 years - dont expect too much too soon but i do feel confident that in 2-3 years we will be ready to challenge for the title

Who wrote "it was going well until the lady sentence"? What kind of supporter are you? Liverpool football club I believe could win the title, the fact is that is possible.

One major title?! You don't rate the FA Cup then, the oldest cup competition in the world. Do you actually know about football?

Ed who do you think will be sold or loaned to push for more money? {Ed002's Note - You need to read the posts.}

11 Aug 2012 21:24:59
Hey eds. I been taking a quick look at the Chelsea rumour-side. I cant belive them guys. Going on and on about why they havent signed Cavani yet, after the amount of money they have spent this summer, and the players they have bought. So I have to say, althoug there are many hopeless people here aswell, at least we are not that bad;) Quick question, do you know have many years J.Cole have left on his contract? And if BR can offload him do you think he will, or do you think he will be given a chance? {Ed002's Note - Two years. We will see what happens.}

I hope Chelsea sign cavani,he will be a bigger flop than shevchenko.
Jonny71

I think Hazard will be a flop honestly. Conversely, I think Marin will do very well if he gets a chance to play.

11 Aug 2012 21:15:19
Hey guys..... Not really a lfc rumour but hey ho!
I told u guys ages ago about bellers going to Cardiff!
Heard few whispers last week but now confirmed to me that Cardiff are going all out to sign Michael Owen. Odds have been slashed at bookies. Just thought you guys would be interested!

edds did diego return to wolfsburg? just wondering. any interest in dembele also ? tnx
5gold stars {Ed002's Note - Diego comes with massive baggage and risk. There is no interest in Dembele from Liverpool.}

11 Aug 2012 21:14:01
Any chance of Dos Santos joining us ed's? Great site BTW {Ed002's Note - I wouldn't think so.}

11 Aug 2012 20:46:20
I know I'll probably get slated for this but I seriously don't rate Ramirez that highly £14 Max!

If its only 14 quid i'll pay the transfer fee myself

Tbh i'm the same. Admittedly i'm only going by olympics and knowledgeable football writers. Not saying people who disagree with this aren't knowledgeable. Redevon

Sorry meant 14 million haha

So is Allen worth £15million in your books? If so I think you should reiterate your question.

No shouldve been 8M but im not paying with my money so its fine. i also think Allen will be key next season

11 Aug 2012 19:31:28
Personally love to see walcott and johnson in would give us natural pace that we have lacked for a number of seasons. Also seen that juve have offered 12.5m for llorente thats a absolute bargain if he goes for under 18m. We need to get rid of players like cole and spearing who would not get near any other teams in the top 8 and instead use the younger players on the bench iam sure they have more motavition and more to give than them 2. Also Ed has man city had a bid accepted for sinclair ?

kopite94

You really think anyone have more motivation than Jay Spearing do to well? I agree that he lack a bit of ability, but he aint lacking motivation!

He gives the ball away to much get rid he is not good enough

His motivation might be there but you can't compete for top spot without any technical ability. For example Chelsea have mata, Oscar, hazard, Marin, ramires- any one of those are better than spearing

But even after other teams having these players, Liverpool still manage to beat them, over half the time.

Piledriver

We have had a solid back four for almost the whole season, that is also a contributing factor for beating tougher opponents.

11 Aug 2012 20:34:13
With Agger playing in the return leg vs FC Gomel would he be intelligible to play champions league should he join Barca or City?
Thanks

BobD94

Until January yeah

Jonesred

No. He will be eligible to play in the CL or in fact the Europa League too for another team as he hasn't yet played in the group stages. Qualification rounds dont "cup-tie" player. Not that he is going anywhere soon with his latest tatoo of YNWA on the knuckles ;-)
RedRay

Im pretty sure during the build up to the game on espn on thurs they said that he would be cup tied because when the guy in the studio said that, john aldridge said "he was shocked" that agger would be playing if it meant him being cup tied for city (or barca) making bids

Not Liverpool related but:

Mo Farah, what a legend.

I'm not even English but why would someone disagree.

He is the man. the olympics has been fantastic, especially the the first week. shows that great britain can still be great. have you eds been watching and what have you thought about how its been for you?
huddz red

Huddz red - there you are ! get on that rugby page

Mohamed Farah...!! Great Run !

LfcSg

Thanks LfcSg.

That's the first time I've seen anyone call him by his real name.

The English gutter media really have no shame.

BJH YNWA

ps - I've heard of Mo Farah for quite a while, his 'name' always seemed to crop up in the sports pages. I assumed he was Scottish.

Only when I saw him at the Olympics - the penny dropped.

Shameful.

The gutter press don't even bother italicising the 'Mo' either - to distinguish that it's not his actual name.

I guess as LFC fans, we're not surprised by them tbh.....

What an athlete though. What a run, it had me (an Irishman) on the edge of my seat. The highlight of the games so far imo.

Mohamed, take a bow.

BJH YNWA

11 Aug 2012 20:23:11
Nothing to do with lfc, but congratulations to mo farrah, a true Olympic legend.
Jonny 71

Why are people disagreeing with this? is this the ethiopian and kenyan liverpool fans who are pissed that farrah absolutely destroyed their athletes in both the 5 and 10 km races :)

Think you may find that he is African and moved over here. Yet, great win for him.

11 Aug 2012 20:18:20
west ham has announced 6m bid for liverpools joe cole. no lies

I'd take that

If true, I can't see us not accepting, but would Cole? Imagine his wages would be cut?

You know it's a lie because it's not mentioned in the hammers forum. Also post finishes with no lies. Wish it was true though. Redevon

Are you joking I'd give them 6m to take him!

I would take 2m and let them put the 4m towards a sign on fee. we save 8.6m alone on two years worth of wages so we would have 10.6m to spend on a target.

quaresma would only cost 6.3m (8m euros) - THATS A FREE SIGING

But where would Quaresma's wages go?
THATS NOT A FREE SIGNING

Piledriver

Have we actually shown any interest in the player? {Ed002's Note - No.}

11 Aug 2012 15:10:17
Ed,002 any chance we can have a pre agreement in place with Alan dzagoev for him to join in january ?
he will be a free agent then and would be a quality addition considering his attributes match what BR demands and he is versatile & young as well.. {Ed002's Note - No chance, sorry.}

11 Aug 2012 20:13:34
seen ian ayre in his jeep on dale street this morning so he's not in spain, thought i'd put that one to bed, agger an skrtel to sign new deals, carroll to go to newcastle on loan last minute...

It was Pep Segura and I think maybe Borrell who went to spain, not Ayre.
Cal

11 Aug 2012 19:56:58
tello or ramirez?who's better in your opinion?

Tello. Davatron

Obv Ramirez but they're completely different price brackets

It's not a question of who is better, more of a question of who fits into our system better and Tello wins that hands down....

Ramirez by far

I'd take either. My gut says Tello, they're asking for way more than we are willing to pay for ramirez

Hi everyone and Eds. I'm totally thrilled in the capture of Joe Allen. I've done my fair share in watching him play last season. The quality I instantly appreciated in him was his ability to quickly change the ball from one foot to the other. I myself play in the central midfield role for my college and I have quick feet like Allen(not as good as his obviously). And I must say that, that quality is very rare in England and if you have seen Iniesta play you would know of its importance. That is probably everything Iniesta does. In big games where the game is in the midfield to be won, a player with Allen's attribute is nothing less than immense. And his passes are exceptional. Perfect in my opinion. Will be trying to emulate him. He'll rightly be a hit for the Reds. Love Henderson as well, he is a bit slow than Allen though but destined to be great.(Agger please stay!) The new season is upon us and with a few more signings to come for sure as promised by Rodgers, I am very happy for the position our club is in, for the future as well. Wishing you guys well for the new season! LiverpoolFC- my first love and and will be my last. YNWA
KrishnaYNWA

Allens passes are far from perfect. One thing you can bet on is that Allen hardly ever plays balls over the top like a playmaker usually does. He keeps the ball on the ground and keeps the ball flowing. Hardly ever seen him make a killer pass but hardly ever loses the ball. His ball retention is good and on top of that his attitude. I'm undecided weather he'll do good for Liverpool but he seems to be a useful player. Better than spearing, Adam Henderson and shelvey. Although shelvey has a bright future ahead of him. That's a better Assesment from a midfielders point of view.

Love this site btw, on it daily and have to laugh sometimes at what people come out with.

No rumour here just a request please, can someone please give me the code for fantasy premier league League which was set up and mentioned earlier in the week as I just did my team for the new season and want to join more leagues.

11 Aug 2012 19:16:56
If you guys had to pick one who would it be: Walcott or Ramirez?

Both would cost around the same but Ramirez is 2 years younger, personally I'd take both but that won't happen.

The Rectangle

Defo ramirez more of a ball player

gee man

Walcott all day

Ramirez. But if not Ramirez then Walcott with the wingers were linked with.

Hi everyone. Brilliant site. I think that Walcott will be coming in very soon plus hes a big big LFC fan. Imagine if he comes in, not only will we get pace and an incredible young player but our image will change. it can show other clubs that we are one of the top teams and by signing walcott alone could create a totally new image. hoping to see sahin on loan and tello for 6m wouldn't be bad but i doubt it. i think dempsey will sign at the VERY last day of the month after carroll leaves on a last minute bid from newcastle just like torres left liverpool after handing in a transfer request. i highly doubt johnson coming in and i hope he doesnt. walcot would be better as he just needs right coaching and is a HARD worker unlike johnson who has skills but doesnt work very hard as mancini claimed. plus hes arrogant and wants serious playing time.
PaKop

I cannot see what BR or any coach could do to improve walcott if wenger can`t, he has turned many a raw talent into class players, he hasn`t managed it with theo, he is as good as he is going to get which isn`t class

What do you want from Walcott ? If he was rubbish and uncoachable he simply wouldnt be in the Arsenal team which last time I looked finished above us in the league for the last 3 seasons. How do his stats compare with Valencia, Nani, Malouda, Arshavin, A Johnson and Bale and Lennon who all play in similar positions for other top teams ? I won't ask you to compare his stats with Downing & Kuyt from our team last season. Seems he's not too bad then - he suffers from the fact that he was hyped so much as a teenager (bit like Joe Cole). Unless he dribbles past all eleven opposition players three times each game before firing in to the top corner people who dont get football will call him "rubbish". He isnt.

The amount of posts i read on this site talking about Agger going for 20 million plus Adam Johnson, or a bid of 15 million for Adam johnson, a couple of points, Agger is outstanding, obviously injuries have hampered him but hopefully now they are behind him, but i would be gutted if he was sold, Skrtyl doesnt deserve to be mentioned in the same breath. and with regards to Adam Johnson why do people think he is the answer to all our problems, ask yourself why is he not playing for Man City? he is paid more wages than we can afford, rumours of an attitude problem and a lack of a work ethic, if Liverpool are going to compete we cant afford top players therefore we need players one to eleven on the pitch working for each other and the team, do you honestly think Adam Johnson will all of a sudden turn into a hard working winger for less money and team that is currently the 8th best in the league? he is a talented player no doubt but if he cant get motivated enough to do it for the premier league champions and ridiculous wages then i find it hard to believe he will do it for Liverpool.

cobra

Nothing to do with the competition? Every time he plays he looks dangerous.

Mancini doesn't play Micah Richards, does that mean you wouldn't want him to play for us?

Maybe Johnson's problems are with Mancini, wouldn't be the first or the last player not to get along with the Italian!

Rodgers is a good man manager and I'm confident if we signed Johnson (though I don't personally think we will) you would see a totally different player.

Scarface

He looks dangerous because he comes on the pitch with opponents already 3 nil down, can you tell me when he has come on a turned a losing game into a winning one?

Micah Richards is an awful defender, the amount of times he gets caught out of position is unbelievable, why do you think Mancini, Capello and Hodgson dont play him? and no i wouldnt want him anywhere near a Liverpool shirt. defending is not about running to your opponents penalty box and leaving your centre halfs exposed.

I think people underestimate how good Martin skrytel has become. Him and agger are a great partnership, and of it was for skrytel would we have won the carling cup...

If you get him as centre half and tell him to keep put, he could really be something

LFC will 100% bring in Sahin on loan, walcott for around £15mil, Dempsey for around £7-8mil, The players out will be spearing, adam and joe cole.

Robo Kop

Would be brilliant if it happened but with the amount of clubs that want Sahin, it is hard to see him heading this way. Still though if all this happened which I'm sure Brendan would want it would be an exciting season!

Hey i want this top happen. i really want this to happen. is this genuine source?

I'd love it if this happened

I know that I am inviting the obvious retort but is it only me who cannot see the attraction in Walcott? Never any end product. If being a Liverpool supporter is enough to get you in then come and get me

He's going to arsenal

If he signs every 1 will change there minds still only young gets assists an goals some people said it about Bellamy b4 he come bk

I'm puzzled by those who continue to say Walcott has no end product. 12 goals 11 assists last year hardly backs this up. Would like to see him at LFC myself, although his injury record isn't great so would not be fussed if we avoided him.

I've got a horrible feeling that KD will be gone and Brendan Rogers will be brought in. As a Chelsea fan i honestly hope this doesn't happen because he is exactly what you need at your club. You won't be able to attract Mourinho or managers of that calibre, so Rogers is exactly what you need. It would be a match made in heaven, a big cub for him to step up too, and a good young manager with PL experience who can build a solid CL team without an astronomical budget. Mourinho obviously seen something in him when he hired him. I honestly believe he will take over and i'm dreading it. What would be peoples thoughts on this one if he was to take over? Is he your number 1 choice or is there someone else you all would rather see?

reports have it that we will have a player from Spain on our books very soon. the winger deal is very close. Not Dempsey by the way, altho Dempsey deal will happen.

as soon as i have more reliable info, will post the wingers name.

i read sumone's post that Pep Segura & Ayre were in Spain, this is indeed true.

Segura has a Barca background, make of that what u will.

I really think Sahin would be needed, gerrard cant play all of the game this season, plus injuries and charlie adam going, we'll need a CM and what better option than Sahin... Tello if signed would be very exciting...

PakiRed.

If sahin comes in I would expect 2 maybe even 3 midfielders shipped out (ideally - spearing, Adam and cole).

I agree if we are planning on taking europa league seriously then that's 19 extra games, if we do like last year and reach both domestic finals that's another 12 or so games? We need a big squad and the more quality in that squad the better.

TBH I'd sell Adam even if Gerrard, Henderson, Allen, Lucas, Spearing Shelvey all got injured at the same time. He's diabolical.

So is henderson n spearing

Henderson is a quality player when played in his position on not on the right wing

Just bought joe allen , henderson is never gettin in midfield

IF Agger really wants to go and does buy Hugo Reyes.......not the Lost one! Half the price and less injury prone. pretty good CB if you ask me.

Your kidding me right? Agger obviously wants to stay, we seem reluctant to sell our best players. Finally Reyes played well in that one match and you've decided we should cash in on one of our best players and go for him...FIFA 13 is coming out soon you should check it out

If Agger wants to go? Have you been under a rock? He's had you'll never walk alone tattooed on his knuckles and clearly made it obvious he wants to stay on Thursday night.

Hi Ed's,

I just would like a couple of things confirmed if that's okay.

Will Carroll leave should Dempsey arrive? Reason being I don't understand the need for both of them. I do like Dempsey, but I cant help feeling that he is getting old now and we won't get many years out of him, where as Carroll is young and has many years left. Surely if we want to replace big Andy then it should be a younger striker.

Also, I'm guessing we only want 1 winger? I would have liked 2 to come in, especially as we have lost Bellamy but after BR said about using Suarez, Gerrard, Borini and Downing as a front four, i'm guessing we will not pursue more than one?

Lastly, are the Gaston Ramirez rumours all but over now? I've been on holiday for the last week so haven't been able to followw the rumours, but as the Walcott and Johnson one's are quite strong at the moment, I'm presuming the Ramirez one's are quieting? I hope not as would have loved him but in Rodgers we trust!

YNWA

Muzzafan {Ed052's Note - Ok, I will try to answer all of that!! The Dempsey deal is falling now - due to Fulhams demands. Also, Carroll is looking less likely to go - if he does it will be to Newcastle. We also will sign another striker - yes a younger one - Tello maybe? We dont want out and out wingers, people like Sinclair who can drift and fit a 4, 3, 3. I think we'll get two of that type of player.Ramirez probably wont sign - too expensive, and he has other, bigger club, more money options. I also doubt Johnson will sign, but Walcott is a possibility.}

Ed is there a chance we could sign Tello,Sinclair and Walcott or will it just be 1 or 2 of them?
Thanks,
Josh {Ed052's Note - There could be a chance of all 3. But Tello might go to Arsenal, and rumours of Sinclair to City keep re-occuring. Also, Walcott might stay at the Gunners. All are possibilities though, and signing any of them wouldn't mean ruling out the others - if you get what I mean.}

No 7 Million for a teenager is not a lot as you pay for potential .Everton sold their Teenage r for 27 m plus add ons.In saying that He may not fulfil all that is expected but why sell him for 7m when we buy other teams potential for 16-20m.

Bilbao is a good club there are good young player in their team but they not make money from them. Alaba good player when he is in headline they sold him Euro 10m only. there was £30m+ bid for Lloriente now they looking for Euro 20m. Munain , Martinez all can be move but may be when their contract almost end. and Bilbao will loose money.

Hi eds,
Heard this from a good friend of mine tha Gaston Ramirez's agent didn't want to confirm what team he was in negotiations with because he didn't want everyone to know clearly but he kept it quiet waiting to see if Luis suarez signs a contract or leaves as gaston Ramirez wants to play alongside him .Now suarez has signed a contract Gaston will most likely be joining Liverpool. I dont know if it is true
What do you think eds? {Ed052's Note - Seems a bit far fetched.]

I think Liverpool focus more on Tello and Adam Jhonson. if anyone of them come to Liverpool then Ramirez is not. at the Moment £14m is what Bologna want.

Not a rumour of such, just a thought after watching the Olympics we might see a couple of this Mexican team being linked to PL clubs very soon. cant wait for new season. goalkeeper and defence rock solid, as long as agger stays. playing 4 3 3 seems to be br way. so midfield there is
lucas, gerard, allen, hendo, shelvey

up front
suarez, borini, downing

I know we have adam and spearing as well as cole. lets say we get sahin on loan to make up midfield six.

then we need three more forwards for our squad. dempsey in a swap with adam. tello, and either sinclair/ramirez.

this gives us
gerard, lucas, allen, hendo, shelvey, sahin in midfield.

suarez, borini, downing, tello, dempsey, ramirez/sinclair up front.

also cole suzo and sterling on top of that.

not unrealistic i think. man city team to beat again, but cl may be priority. chealsea will need time to gel. new manager only keeping seat warm for bigger name, could blow up. man u have huge debt problems, alot more than 450 mil on books, where did payment in kind loan disappear to? 10 years ago hazard would be theirs, lucas mora never going to happen just keeping fans happy linking them with big names. could struggle to get into top 4 this season. arsenal, they always surprise people when spending nothing, now they have bought a few we will see, rvp will be huge loss though.
could be one of those seasons.....
cant wait

B O H

If i had one concern for the start of the season it would be the goal keeper. I like PR but the last few seasons, he hasn't been like his best.
In the game against Gomel, he couldn't hold on to the ball, but not just that, last season he made loads of mistakes and cost us a few points
I hope BR is in the market for a new keeper
You have been a good servant Pepe, but time to move on

I agree Reina is not the best shot stopper, but he's probably one of (if not the) best distributors of the ball from the back and that's a pretty important skill with this type of play.

Coady, maybe, but Shelvey is not at all a CDM. You've seen him tackle right?

For me Jonjo done well. after Allen arrive spearing should sale and so do Charle Adam.

Bosco, I think you are unfairly maligned on this site. No one else seems to grasp the fact that FSG are just a cover for CIA covert operations. They simply bought LFC for money laundering purposes. Wee Jay is in fact otherwise known as 'agent x', and will not be 'sold' under any circumstances. He has a greater purpose for FSG. Do not be surprised if he is made 'director of football' in the near future. You heard it here first. Keep up the 'yonk exposing' good work Bosco.

11 Aug 2012 15:44:01
Hi guys, just a quick shout up for FSG. A high percentage of posts during this window have been critical of the slow nature of our transfer dealings. To date we have 2 new players in with 3 weeks remaining to buy more. For many seasons now we have had an overly large, underperforming squad, many on grotesque salaries. Recent windows have seen us pay inflated prices for homegrown talent, occasionally fuelled by panic it seems. John Henry and Co. are shrewd businessmen but their track record in U.S sports franchises displays a fierce commitment to success on and off the playing field. For anyone unaware of their transformation of the Boston Red Sox a little research may alter the way many percieve the current owners. These people are in it for the long haul and finally, and more welcomely for the first time in many years, we have responsible owners acting with prudence and due dilligence where our football club is concerned. We are currently losing £50m per year and came perilousy close to administration under H&G. There is no quick fix for this situation when approached properly. A sugar daddy owner or obscenely wealthy middle east consortium in my opinion is a treachorous path to tread, what happens when they get bored, lose interest and find another project? FSG are making huge commercial strides to promote the LFC brand, thereby safeguarding the long term future and prosperity of this great institution we regard as a privilege to belong to. Liverpool in time will be totally self-sustainable, surviving and thriving long after FSG,and indeed we as fans, cease to exist. This is an extremely comforting thought in these economically unstable times. I'm sure our future will be as laden with success as our glorious past.

Paul, Staffs.

Gpt to clap your hands excellent post

FSG have ties and strong one's to the Boston area. That might keep their interest a little more sustained and keep they're money on the other side of of the pond rather then dishing it out over here due to that little fact. While I do think that they will do ok for us. You shouldn't think vote a minutute hat they look upon ourselves and the Red Sox as equal entities.

I am not naive enough to believe Lfc, or football in general can ever compete equally for the affections of the FSG hierarchy. That said, Chelsea and their Russian oligarch aside, I believe this window's investment to date not only matches, but in certain instances exceeds that of our contemporaries. You cannot fault American owners holding a far greater deep seated, emotional tie to their domestic investments but I feel on occasion they receive a misguided, negative press from fans who seem unaware of the greater picture.

Paul, Staffs

Well said.

BJH YNWA

The FSG plan with RedSox was to increase their commercial revenue to compete with the elite in baseball (yankees) rather than pumping in money like the oligarch or the sheikhs. They believe in sustainability and that is what they have achieved at the RedSox. They have raised the commercial revenue to approx. $250 million a year which is nowhere close to the yankees ($400 million) but still allows them to compete because they sign hundreds (literally, not kidding) youngsters each year with the aim to develop them and that is why in spite of injuries to big name players this year, they are still within touching distance of the playoff spots with a team largely composed of homegrown talent.

FSG is a group of businessmen that invest money and hire the best people to run their investments and they have done a damn good job with RedSox and are in the process of doing so with Liverpool - increased revenue from the club stores, increased number of sponsors, better deal with kit manufacturers etc. etc.

I agree in that the reaction to FSG from the British press has always been negative and sensationalist e.g. Mr. John Henry recently answered a few questions on the tomkins times website in which he commented on important topics like FFP rules and how it effects FSG's business plans regarding LFC and loosely mentioned that they haven't looked at selling the naming rights for Anfield but stay open to the possibility IF the partners are right.
He also said that Football associations will be looking to introduce FFP rules at a national level (which is being considered for the BPL and the lower divisions have already agreed to one recently). The British press came up with headlines like
Liverpool could sell Anfield naming rights - goal . com
Grounds for concern as Liverpool chief Henry admits he may cash in by selling Anfield naming rights - Daily mail

and compare this their rather docile reaction to the Glazers siphoning off £ or $ 75 millions from the ManU IPO worth £ or $150 with the remaining going to servicing the £450 debt.

I think FSG are doing a brilliant job and moving towards making LFC a self sustained club in the short to medium term and a self sustained power house in medium to long term.

Is it just me who gets the feeling BR is looking at loan wingers not just to save the transfer fee but perhaps as he sees Sterling as the long term winger we seek?
To me Sterling is a bit young and small to be playing all season this year, but if we bought a young talented winger which BR would prefer it would effectively hinder Sterlings development and limit game time in the future, especially if the front 3 are on good form, he might not get too much of a chance, or am I just overthinking things?
Cal

Think he might loan someone in with more experience so he can loan out Sterling to get more game time which will help build the lad up, look how much better Shelvey looks. We shall see, I wouldn't worry to much BR seems to know what he's doing with regards to young talent.

Sterling can't go on loan til he's 18 mate

I really hope spearing proves everyone wrong and becomes a world-beater like Leiva. Remember Spearing is only 23!

Boinz

By the age of 23 Gerrard was captain of lfc and regular for England, spearing has no chance of being a world beater, sorry but good luck at Nottingham forest jay hope it all goes well but no thanks!

Now that is the funniest post ever - Spearing will find his level when he leaves, probably League 1 - KD didn't make many mistakes as a Liverpool legend, but playing him in the Cup Final against Chelsea was his biggest.
Spearing isn't even average.

And do not ever put him in the same sentence as Lucas, as I told many of my fellow Kopites when he first played, Lucas is class, you are not the Brazilian U20 captain if you haven't got great skill and ability.

John B

As much as I love Leiva I think it a tad premature to call him a world beater. That said, at times I feel spearing would be more suited as a panel beater at my local garage. He's a good honest lad who tries his utmost, but limited in ability. The truth hurts sometimes but at the highest level he simply doesn't cut the mustard.

Sorry I have to disagree. Jay Spearing is one of the worst players I have seen at Liverpool Football Club. The only reason he has over stayed his welcome is because he is a local lad and with the loss of Lucas and Gerrard for most parts of last season he actually got a look in. Maybe the reason why we are still looking to get Nuri Sahin on loan so we can finally get rid of Spearing and the equally woeful Adam. Also to compare him to the Brazilian captain and future Liverpool captain is a insult to Lucas Leiva.

Cheers

Markolfc85

23 is really not young for a footballer you know, and plus, he's very nearly 24. He should be reaching his peak in a couple of years and it's just clearly not going to happen; I honestly don't see how he keeps making it into the team every week. I honestly don't even think he'd make it into most Championship sides!

Worst player ever to wear the shirt. And i mean we had some really bad apples like nunez.

Some people take longer to get into their stride

You guys are awful. He is not even close to the worst LFC player ever. He tries hard but lacks technique. He's better than most of us so show some respect.

Travis Lee

Jog on Travis he is crap! We need to stop accepting mediocrity because someone "plays for the shirt"

To the post that said lucas dosent cut it at the highest level .I watched a re run of are match against man city in league last yr and he was the best midfielder on the pitch there mid could not operate as freely as it did against most teams that was all down to lucas.Tommy irish Red

I too think that Jay Spearing isn't good enough for us BUT we would all have signed for Liverpool if given the chance. There can be no doubt that the lad gives his all.If that is not good enough there is nothing more that he can do. The club's management (past and present) could have and now should do something about this but please show some class and show some respect for one of our players and indeed a fellow human being

Question for the regulars on this site as I genuinely enjoy reading everyone's opinions so it'd be nice to get a bit of a debate going. There seems a massive divide in opinions regarding Dempsey - I sit on the side that I think he'd be a fantastic addition, he's fierce like Bellamy was and has a great eye for goal as well as being able to play in a myriad of attacking positions. Just curious as to why some of you are so against seeing him in a Liverpool shirt? Besides his age obviously...

Cheers guys.

JP.

I'm not opposed to dempsey in principal but could you see any of clubs competing for the premier league title bidding for him? He had an exceptional season last year but prior to that several good, without being memorable campaigns with Fulham. I think the asking price being reported is the main cause for division of opinion. He is not a young player and will have no re-sale value. Dempsey at the right price would be a good addition to the squad but if Fulham insist on £10m plus for him then I can't see any takers. I sincerely believe FSG will never pay over the odds for anyone again.

Paul, Staffs

Like Paul, Staff's I'm not against the move but not for the price we've been quoted!

This is a tough one, I personally think he will be a good edition to the squad as he has goals in him but we must not over pay for someone his age. If we loose Carroll Dempsy would be a must as he has height and ariel power but if not I'd go for Theo as he has goals, assists and age on his side. Also his speed would be a great addition.

Cheers for the opinions lads! Yeah I think the price is far too high, I can see what you mean about this being a major stumbling block, although do you think we'd look back and think the price was still too high if he banged in the amount he did for Fulham last season for us? Just a thought!

JP.

I don't think the price is that bad honestly. 3rd highest scorer last year, senior international player for 10M doesn't seem horribly out of order. Same age roughly as Van Persie and not much older than
Downing. If we could get him for say 5M + Adam, I would do it in a heartbeat...

Dempsey for 6 million.... ok.
Dempsey for 7-10 million..... No thanks.
Thats how I roll!
jonnybarnes89-90

I think we NEED Dempsey at this point in our evolution and so should do what is necessary - but it would move the thing along if the lad put a transfer request in

Walcott and Dempsey put together with the rest of the team will be formidible team

Couldn't agree more mate! I really rate Dempsey, always have done - in fact I'm surprised he's been at Fulham this long as I thought he'd have been snapped up. Walcott showed during the Euros what he's capable of when playing slightly more central with more support up front. I'd love to see him in the Liverpool shirt, especially as he's a LFC fan too!

JP.

You're absolutely right- it is two extra attackers we are in need of, and then that should conclude a very successful transfer market in my eyes. The two you listed would be perfect additions: Dempsey provides the experience we will lose from Kuyt, Maxi and Bellamy, as well as that clinical edge we were missing last season; I really don't see how a Premier League proven clinical goalscorer with such experience and versatility can be a bad addition. I think people sometimes get too caught up in age and want to be ONLY young players, when in fact we are in need of experience too (especially due to the loss of the three aforementioned players). He's really not that much older than RVP at 29, and people seem to think all players lose their ability when they hit 30... It's simply not true, with Bellamy being a perfect example. His age, as well as his contractual situation, does however mean that £10m is probably a little too much.
I think Walcott is criminally underrated as it happens. People attack him for being 'just an athlete' or similar, but it is simply not true; just because he is one of, if not the, fastest footballer in the world, it does not mean that is all he can do, as he proved at the Euros. And plus, pace is something we have been desperately lacking at this club for years. Glen Johnson is probably our fastest player, and last year the only real pace came from Craig Bellamy at the age of 32.

Plus tello and sahin though.

Torres to return. Possibly on loan. Carroll to return to Newcastle. Two returns. All that wasted cash between the two of them. Crazy decisions made in the past.

Torres--absolutely no chance, your dreaming, carroll--possible but not certain

Torres wouldn't come back. He'd be too scared of Agger going all Mike Tyson on him again like last time!

JP.

Torres will more than likely go to Spain in January if he continues his bench warming duties.

Surely Adam is already surplus!

And spearing

Let's hope so.

Would Dempsey not put in a Transfer request to force a move?

Don't start wanting players to start that game.
We would go mental if one of our players did it

Here should be the first thing ANY poster does before asking ed a question. Read the last 10 posts, don't just blindly question, they are seriously busy people on here and they have to waste their time replying 'read the previous posts' because you didn't bother to do it. Its not hard and takes 30 seconds at most and it frees up the eds to questions that might have an interesting answer, and also helps to keep repeat posts.

Come on guys let's do our bit to help maintain a site that the eds pretty much dedicate their free time to.

Great work eds

Good advice, but unlikely to be read by those it is aimed at, I fear.

Especially with shelvey and Henderson on the bench!

Add nuri sahin to that and it could rival the mascherano alonso gerrard trio.

Serious now guys...
I believe Liverpool need Dempsey, Walcott, providing nobody leaves that will get us top 4 for sure.
But the both of them could cost 25mill so shall we go for it ?
Or dump the 25mill on a top player?

I dont think the Top Player's want to sign for LFc this summer . Therefore Dempsey & Walcott would suit me fine .

TheScarf

Mate if top players want to play for Russian clubs then I wouldn't put it past them coming to us. It's about money now, not so much success.

11 Aug 2012 13:59:57
Liverpool have let three first team wingers leave the club this summer Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez and now Craig Bellamy but none have come in. Alberto Aquilani and Fabio Aurelio have also been moved on while Brendan Rodgers is keen to move on Charlie Adam,Jay Spearing and however unlikely Joe Cole. Liverpool have let 5 important squad players leave the club and 2 more are likely to join them that'll be 7 out{ maybe 8 as I have heard rumours Doni wants out} but Liverpool have only signed 2, Fabio Borini and Joe Allen. FSG are being strategic with their money as BR said but they do have money to spend they just don't want to be ripped off like last summer so they are playing the poverty card to try and lower transfer demands. Clint Dempsey remains a target however that deal is all but dead from what I hear with Fulham demanding around £10m for a player who is nearing 30 and going into the final year of his contract. Liverpool are making moves to sign Gaston Ramirez and believe it or not Theo Walcott while they are planning a move for Victor Wanyama once they sell Jay Spearing and Charlie Adam. I will be delighted with are summer should we complete these signings. I would have preferred to keep Bellamy and not sign Walcott as I feel Bellamy is a better player and he would allow Raheem Sterling to develop more. Flanagan,Pacheco,Sterling and Wisdom are all available for loan's. Possible Liverpool transfers summer 2012 Out- DAGLISH Aurelio,Kuyt,Maxi,Aquilani,Bellamy,Adam,Spearing In-RODGERS Borini,Allen,Ramirez,Walcott,Wanyama

HI Eds , greats site . Thanks

this has been on my mind for a very long time , so im just going to say it . I dont believe BR had genuine interest in Sigurson , i think he just wanted to see who was monitoring the first player he would attempt to buy from swansea, that would be assumed to be the most valuable to him . And sigurson was just a dummy, that Tottenham jumped to. While BR real target was always Joe Allen . Compare the money he paid for allen and that paid for gylfi . It kinda makes sense . Gyfi was just a decoy for our real target allen.
What do u think Eds and fellow reds ? {Ed002's Note - It really does not work like that.}

WOW...These conspiracy theorist really can come up with some cr*p! LOL

MR EM

You can't beat someone posting couple of days ago saying that the fee for Allen was expensive because united were floating shares. Real Dan brown fantasy that.

Nevada

Siggurdsson was a target I think for the right price, but we didn't get the price we wanted so we moved on. Realistically, he would likely have been a sub/backup for Gerrard in the CAM role and we've already got 2 youngsters (Shelvey, Henderson) for that job, so why pay over the odds for a third?

Nevada, obviously the price of Allen had nothing to do with Utd floating on the stock exchange but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that the story stating the imminent signings of Lucas Moura and Van Persie for Utd in the days leading up to the flotation were solely generated to artificially inflate the share price.

Borini n Allen in- 2 great signings IMO. Allen will be the new alonso and borini you can see from game in Europe he looks quality and links well with gerrard, Suarez, etc.....

As for rumoured signings

Dempsey- fulham over pricing him, think this will fade out now.

Tello- personally I would welcome this signing, great player and would fit the fast flowing football.

Godin

He's young aswell and will only go up in value.

Borini is nothing like Alonso.

Allen isn't like alonso but sahin is so I would love if we got him.

Macca and The Eds, now we have Allen and Borini as you said we would, who seems likely to be our next viable target? Great site by the way. Hi Ed's, fantastic site I seriously check it once an hour everyday my wife dislikes you guys lol!
I know u may not know but who do u think is likely to be our next signing? An how long are we gunna be made to wait?
Also brenden has said hes shocked by some targets transfer prises. Does that mean the 4/5 signings we were expecting is gunna be cut down to 2/3?
Plz post cheers. {Ed002's Note - I cannot say who will be next or how long it will be. The reality of managing a "major" English side is that the prices go up for many players. This has just hit home.}

11 Aug 2012 13:10:53
This might sound a little crazy, but I think we are due a bit more luck this season. I have honestly never seen a team hit the post and come so close so many times, not to mention keepers having the best game of their season. This also affected the players such as Downing and Henderson and the team as a whole. I also hope tha Allen will provide that killer pass in the final third to leave it on a plate for Suarez and Borini. Would be delighted with a top 4 finish this season and then we can challlenge for the title in the following.

I do think allen is worth 15m will be a fantastic player for us! my only concern would be that we have left are selfs short on funds when we really need at least 2 attacking players if we have then its a big mistake has i think they are more of a priority than another mid! Time will tell. King kenny

Agree, however, the key to success in BR's system is ball possession, and this is why he feels Allen is key. He will be the Xavi of the new Liverpool. Only hope he has half the vision of Xavi!

Br wants torres on loan and ft is open to a return. Tello is not going to happen. Morgan, suso and sterling will feature this season as br keen to bribg through youth. Joe cole in talks with west ham and andy c will move back to newcastle for 15-18m expect this within last few days of window. A.johnson is far more likely than walcott. Agger stays! Henderson will be offloaded at a cut price

If you want your post to sound credible, don't start it with anything about Torres coming back. The rest of the post won't be read by almost anyone, including me!

Agger and Skrtel are going no where imo... Believe they will sign new contracts... Highly doubt City will meet our £27m valuation for Daniel.

The Allen signing will spark off a series of events...

Rodgers has been monitoring Dempsey situation for a while now, they are looking to exchange Adam for him now the Allen deal is completed. Expect this to be a deadline day transfer, or the last few days of the window because Fulham trying to play hardball but the situation is not in their favour.

If they agree to it then we will make our interest in Sahin more formal as a replacement, at the moment nothing is close on that front though. Player would be interested in coming here, impressed with Rodgers vision for the club, also that he speaks fluent Spanish.

If that move happens that the chances are one of Spearing (sold) and Shelvey (loan) will go, not sure which one, in my opinion Rodgers fancies Jay.

Carroll is available for transfer, however he will only return to Newcastle or stay here. I expect us to accept a bid of about £17m if it comes from them, they know we don't want him, this is also the reason we didn't bring Carroll on the other night, would cuptie him.

Downing is staying, Rodgers rates him very highly, sees him playing on the right hand side more often than not. However he is looking for another forward/winger because we are short there and wants to increase competition for places. Afellay, Walcott, Tello amongst those he is looking at.

Luis

To verify my credibility, this was posted 5 minutes before Macca

Rodgers is lining up a deal for Borini. The guy who posted about Callejon the other night was a different person and not me. I did however submit a post about interest in Allen and Ramirez last week.

Luis

It would not cup tie Carroll qualifiers dont count.

Any credibility you had went when you said Spearing would stay ahead of Shelvey, and£17m is not enough for AC.
It didn't take a person ITK to think BR would go after Borini, he wanted him at Swansea
after his loan.

Why would it matter to Nuri Sahin that Rodgers speaks Spanish?

11 Aug 2012 12:50:28
any infomation on Sterling. Great young player and is a big big prospect for the future. I know Tottenham wanted to buy him for about 7 mil but nothing official. You think hes good enough to be playing first team this year? Or do you think a loan deal is the better option. If so i think he would fit in well at West Brom. Especially as they now have Lukaku on loan.

thanks

Was talking to him on wednesday in a barber's he's not going anywhere he told me! very settled up here and do'es not know where these rumour,s that he's unsettled have come from! So i would'nt worry to much about him leaving! In Rafa we trust!

not really any rumours but just analysing the transfers.

allen - (good player) but 15m is a lot of money.
borini - decent young player but seems a bit hit or miss to me. but scored a good goal on thursday.
kaka - seems very unlikely to me, not the same player anymore but would be interesting to see him.
tello - i think he's great, saw him come of the bench and score two a while back, great player.
carroll - if we sell him he will definitley be the one that comes and bites us in the arse. only getting better imo.

great sign eds keep up the good work.

11 Aug 2012 12:32:53
David Villa will not be moving here on loan unless a deal for Andy Carroll can be reached. It is expected that Newcastle will hold out until the final day of the transfer window in order to get Carroll at a cheaper price then the 20m they have been told to meet. Everything is in order for the loan deal, Villa will stay at Barca unless Carroll is sold.

Surely if Athletico are selling Llorente for around 16-20 million we should try and get him. Great striker who woul add firepower to the squad.

Liking Borini shows a lot of desire and has got off the mark in his second game for us, so that's a positive. A forward three of Llorente, Suarez and Borini would be excellent.

I also think Ramirez would add some much needed creativity to the team. We looked good on Thursday don't get me wrong, but it's a long season and we have let a lot of players leave already.

With the departures of Kuyt, Rodriguez, Aurelio, Bellamy and Aqualani we have probably saved 350-380,000 a week in wages. So we are moving in the right direction.

You reckon we're going to go out and spend 75 million this summer? cant see it myself i reckon we might make 1 more signing around 10-15 million and 1 possibly 2 loan deals and that will be it

Llorente on the bench? He would cost about 18m and you'd expect him to start from the bench?! Stick to football manager mate!

Scott Sinclair is about to ruin his career and join Man City where he will barely play. However, it will force Adam Johnson out, but he'll be off to Sunderland (who will also pick up Liverpool fan Steven Fletcher).

Once the Allen deal is done expect to see some more activity in and out, with a few outgoing loan deals, and a couple of new ins (pretty much what Macca suggests). Don't expect to see a new striker as Rodgers is happy with Suarez and Borini, and likes using Downing and Gerrard in advanced roles. Carroll may go, but Adam Morgan will be trusted as back up and will get Carling Cup games.

Hi guys... surely if agger doesnt want to join man city he doesnt have to,regardless of the 2 clubs agreeing a fee.... it must be his choice also.... am i right in what im thinking.. cheers guys savage work.....

Hello Eds,
What do you reckon will happen with Carroll ? Do you expect Newcastle to come up with an improved bid ? Also heard Tottenham are interested. Any truth in it ?
Finally I feel we need to move on atleast 7 more players : Pacheco, Eccleston, Adam, Spearing, Brad jones, Doni, Danny wilson & possibly Carroll. Do you feel we can achieve it in the 3 weeks left ? {Ed023's Note - Macca has stated Newcastle may bid}

Hi eds,
Do any of you know of any interest in James Mclean or Adam Lallana? Both have great potential. Great site!
Cheers, {Ed002's Note - None, sorry.}

11 Aug 2012 11:56:59
I would prefer we used the kids in the europa and carling cup this season however I think that we will just play squad player eg jones Kelly carra coates Robinson Adam spearing hendo sterling Carroll cole. And tbh I think that could compete against most sides and keeps the squad players happy to sit on the bench in the league, thoughts?

11 Aug 2012 11:55:43
Just wondering wld people prefer afellay 3m or tello 6m cos barca fans are saying that they want tello to leave but that they wld like to keep afellay doesn't that show that afellay wld be I much better buy?

I would prefer tello to be honest, his pace is frightening, pretty much the fastest player in la liga and i think he would score more goals and there would always be a little doubt over affelay after such a serious injury, affelay on loan would probably be better that way we dont lose out if he has a recurrence of his injury

11 Aug 2012 11:53:31
Hi eds, firstly just want to say what a great site this is, keep up the good work! Secondly, everything's gone a bit quiet on the new stadium front, wasn't some sort of announcement supposedly imminent? Are you aware of any developments? Thanks

Jack {Ed002's Note - I really would not hold your breath over a new stadium. I very much expect a redeveloped Anfield will be on the cards.}

11 Aug 2012 11:43:45
Not really Liverpool related but what I dont understand is why Arsenal havent accepted a bid from Juventus, as I heard they offered around 15m. I mean surely Arsenal would accept that offer instead of accepting an offer from Manchester United thats worth a little more?

Had to laugh at someone suggesting we should bring in michael owen? Why not get Heskey back too then we would have a donkey and an ass up front.

We'll all assume you mean RVP

They probably don't want to be playing against him at least twice a season.

They offered £15m and promised he would play with Suarez this season. Lol
I hope united get him for £20m and he spends the entire season sat at home injured.

MIKEY

Well maybe rvp doesnt want to move to Juve cuz of the issues there and they just lost their coach. Big move to take his family to Italy when they love london.

11 Aug 2012 11:33:59
So we have got Allen which in my opinion is a great move but people are already slating him and he hasn't done anything yet! He scored 4 and made 2 goals last season, Luka modric made 4 and scored 4 and he's got a 40 million price tag so you do the math and Allen is better value than modric!
Redmanluka

So your saying you would rather have allen than modric? and hes got a £40m price tag because he is a world class player, we got £50m for a striker who scored 12 goals in all competitions?

He will be great for us.
A few years Back xavi had all the same criticism Allen is getting now.

MIKEY

MATHS we're not American

It's maths not MATH.

No we are not American, but the original poster might be. If you start complaining about how Americans express things you will have Ed002 on your case - and you wouldn't like that

Just a note on something to do with a squad - we seem to have far too many Centrw Midfielders these days, hangovers I suspect from 3/4 previous regimes. If we sold a few of these wouldn't it help to fund a purchase of Johnson or Walcott or Ramirez - we seem a little short in the creative department.

Hessle Red

I agree about too many players for the same slots BUT I wouldn't want Walcott or Johnson

Puzzled

What? too many CMs? is this a joke from last season?

11 Aug 2012 11:32:57
Man city are trying to sign Sinclair from Swansea so does this mean A.Johnson could be avaible, and do you think we will try for him?

I would rather move for Sinclair, now that city have activated that 'first bid/offer' clause, that would allow LFC to pursue.

Think that Borini is the absolute answer to what was missing from last season.

Don't think he will mesmerise defenders a la Suarez but this kid will be in the right place at the right time, will be our fox in the box and WILL score a tremendous amount of goals for us.

Got a real good feeling about him...thoughts...?

I'll be honest, I could remember his name from his days at Chelsea and Swansea - but couldn't remember a thing about him as a player!

I kept quiet when we signed him and decided to reserve judgment for when I've had the chance to watch him play a run of games. I know it's only a couple of games in, but I'm happy so far.

I think it also says something about the lad that he was the first player BR went after. He obviously knows him and likes him.
And as the Eds pointed out Borini had only just returned to Italy, so there was no guarantee he'd be interested.

There's still a long way to go, and I think his work rate alone will endear him to Liverpool fans, but if he does struggle for form or goals I hope we remember that he's still a very young footballer.

Joe

Agree.
Suarez in this system will be dragging defenders out of position and someone like borini will take advantage of the gaps.

Just wondering what the edds opinions are on psg spending surely they are going to be in breach of the financial fair play rules {Ed002's Note - I would not worry about the FFP rules just yet.}

Does it matter?!

I got the same feeling, moreover, all of his goals came from inside the box last year with Roma, making him a serious candidate to becoming the real poacher we desperately need.

Matt Jarvis handed in a TR. Why not just get him for the bench...

They want 10m....

Cos Rodgers has more ambition than hodgson. Jarvis is poo.
Tommy.

They aint getting 10m if he handed in a TR. Could replace Bellamy Maxi or Kuyt... Think about it

Jarvis is a good, reliable player with lots of pace and a superb cross, however, 10m is too much, 6-7m max, and he would certainly not fit BR's style.

RedKopite

I did think about it. He will go to WH for 10m. Bit much for a bench player who is avg at best. U now think about it...

£10 million is too much for him and we're not looking for that type of player anymore.

11 Aug 2012 11:04:54
Went to the match on Thursday night. Was my first Liverpool match and I loved every minute.

I can tell you that Agger looked like he was happy and we were all singing his name. I believe he has just had YNWA tattood on his hand... This would be strange if he was to leave.

The biggest cheer of the night was when Andy Carroll came out to warm up. Was a shame he didnt come on because I would have loved to see him play.

Suarez looks even worse for defenders in real life and his technique is often magical. I know the opposition where of a much lower standard but still, he and Gerrard tore them a new one at times.

Borini looks like an intelligent signing and could be a great finisher. He looks like the player we were missing last season. He seems to be in and around the box even when drifting from the left hand side.

rEDtILLdEAD

I have to say, it made me feel massively uncomfortable the way that the supporters where loudest in there support for Carroll & Agger - It's almost as if the supporters want Rodgers to struggle.
Our supporters should be as loud as they where in support for the players on their way out for every player. End of.

Eds I understand that top 4 will be the priority this season but how important does BR think is the Europa league? I'd love another European trophy.

Ed002 is good but none of the Eds can read Rodgers mind!

Not Every game is important

Right here's what I have heard about there's apparently 2 loan signings 1 from real madrid sahin or calerjon 1 from barca or city which wud probably be tello 7 mill or johnson season long loan option to buy n dempsey will be bout 8 mill end of window. Which without doubt is a vastly improved squad on last season cumon the reds ynwa. Edgey

I'd love us to buy Tello and then get Callejon on loan with an option to buy. These two players would make a huge impact on our side.

How can he moan about not being supported in the transfer Market?
No class whatsoever.

MIKEY

Think he is on his way out... Juve maybe?

He signed a bloody great contract, highest earning manager in the prem

He signed a contract after winning the BPL. They wouldnt push him out for saying one or two things. Remember he is the man that brought the title back from united.

11 Aug 2012 10:46:44
Can somebody clear up why we are becoming a we will sell at the right price club and not keeping are best players if agger leaves forget fourth

Get out & enjoy the sunshine mate....

It's called realism. Every player in the world has their price.
I love Danny Agger but if someone came in with a £25-27 million bid are you telling me you wouldn't accept?! Yes he's class but realistically he's had one injury free season in 6 and could be replaced well at centre half with half that money and the rest could be spent on a forward and the rest put towards signing a left back.
Man Utd sold Ronaldo for £80m so does that make them a selling club?! No but every player has their price.

You don't get it do you? agger was never gonna leave! Brendan Rogers is a proper manager not just in the football sense either, his man management skills are well known and don't you think he's learnt something off one of the best in the business then put his own spin on it. this is all about unsettling their comfortable mentality, he obviously has picked out dagger but it could have been anyone of 4/5 of them his way of saying 'my way or the highway' if you don't want to play for the shirt ' bye bye'. we were all too comfortable last year kenny god bless him i loved him to bits but it became increasingly clear that he let them away with too much, not enough effort especially when it started to go wrong. he was over protective always on the defensive with the media I reckon they sub-conciously got to thinkin that whatever they did he would support them. Not so this guy he'll get what he wants and I don't think It'll bother him one jot to get rid of anyone he doesn't think can do a job for him and the team, cos I'll tell you now this fella will succeed, he's makin it clear whose boss.

11 Aug 2012 10:45:08
It looks fairly certain that there will be no further purchases until either Agger or Carroll move on , hopefully Carroll .

Disagree disagree disagree. Would press that button all day. Carroll could be a huge player this season.
Tommy.

Carroll will never be a big player (don't mean tall) for BR. The team is geared to play to all Carroll weaknesses and ignore his strengths. Carroll will be great but not for us... Similarly I think we can be great with BR... They just are to be together at LFC

It doesn't look like that at all mate. You're completely & utterly wrong. If the right player we are after becomes available then we will purchase. Why choose to miss out on that player?? FSG have money. They indeed may choose to recoup later from 'Agger' / 'Carroll' sales money but what you're suggesting makes no sense whatsoever does it?

I'd rather they both stayed TBH

I disagree, I think regardless of any players going out we will still sign between 2 and 4 new players. I don't think Agger will go but I expect Newcastle to come back with a higher bid for Carroll.

11 Aug 2012 10:43:56
Agree with recent post concerning over inflated prices. Allen is a good player, not a great player and definately not a £15m player.

Yeah and Henderson was worth 20m? Allen is better than both Shelvey & Hendo and miles better than Jay. Good signing for 15m (Is Modric 2 and a bit times the player he is at 35/40m and a few years older?)

I the current market of player prices it is about right for him. He also has the potential to become valued even higher in the next few years.
The better players will always cost more especially with the teams that have the financial power to blow every other team out of the water.
The transfer fees have a knock-on effect, because you can say this player was sold for £30m so my player must be worth £20m etc.
Also add on the fact he is british and you are paying even more than what you might think he is worth.
On top of that is his age and the quality level he is already at.
And on top of that is his very good performance(s) for team GB at the olympics.
Stop worrying about what we have spent or are looking to spend and just support the team when they play.

And Berbatov? lol

Yes, Modric is easily twice the player that Allen is

We didn't pay 20m for Hendo. The only media outlet to have reported that figure at the time were Sly and even they have gone back on it and changed it to 15m

Am I the only person who thinks Modric is grossly over-rated?!

Modric is ridiculously overrated. People talk like he is zinedine zidane when in reality he is not even Mohammed zidane. He's very inconsistent, bad attitude and way too weak, does one dribble a season and everyone thinks he's amazing

And we haven't even seen him in a red shirt yet - Muppet say it again at the end of the season not before he's even kicked a ball for us, stop moaning and support the lad. you're probably not worth what the boss pays you but you wouldn't like if he or your colleagues said so.

11 Aug 2012 16:16:45
at "Modric is easily twice the player that Allen is."

I agree, but Allen is as good as Modric was at the same age imo.

When Modric was Allen's age, he was still trying to find his best position - it took Modric a couple of years to adapt to the higher standard of play in England.

Allen already knows his role inside-out and is capable of dictating and controlling games.

This is something Modric (for all his suberb technique and ability) has only begun to master over the last couple of seasons.

£15m for Hendo was surprising because apart from a good start to the previous season - no-one had been too impressed by him - he had a patchy season by all accounts. Signing him raised a few eyebrows - but he was 'one for the future', and may play a useful role this year.

The best of luck to him.

Allen, however - was roundly praised for his consistent performances all of last season, and has game intelligence beyond his years.

I am convinced he can be an excellent signing, my only concern is that the doom-mongerers who know little about football, will be expecting double-figures from Allen in terms of goals and assists - and if this does not happen they will moan as usual.

Allen and Modric occupy similar roles - their job is not primarily to score and create goals - it is to keep possession, press the opposition without the ball and to dictate the game via incisive passing and clever movement.

A calm head with good technique in central midfield is absolutely essential when trying to play possession football. A player like Allen builds moves, because he doesn't play the final pass means little.

Such a player allows you to 'pass teams to death' - always available, always passing and offering an outlet - such a player improves those around them. Whilst the opposition will run themselves into the ground - chasing a ball that is in perpetual motion.

How many times have you seen Xavi split a defence with a ball to a runner (whether a FB or inside forward) who squares it for a tap-in? You've probably lost count.

He doesn't get an assist, but his vision for a defence splitting pass is nonetheless superb.

In the 2009-10 & 10-11 seasons combined, Modric contributed just five Premier League assists.

Since joining Spurs in 2008, he has scored 13 PL goals in total and has amassed a total of 12 assists.

In all competitions, Modric scored 6 goals and had 5 assists last year.

(Downing had 6 assists and 2 goals btw. Adam had )

What Modric does best is pass teams to death - and in terms of passes made - and passing accuracy, and also in terms of winning the ball back and pressing the opposition - there are few in his class.

Statistically - Allen matches Modric in each of these areas, they have a lot in common.

He is one of the few midfielders in Europe who can match Modric in these areas - I hope the fans are knowledgeable to recognise this.

Maintaining possession is hugely important. HUGELY.

BJH YNWA (was gonna throw in passing stats I've seen before to support my case, but I'm in a mad rush - sorry! Find them yourselves.)

ps - Again, don't expect shedloads of goals and assists. Like Alonso before him - goals and assists are not what he's primarily there for........

Cole and Adam will be sold.. Spearing,Henderson,Downing will stay as they will be great squad players to have.
Expect Dempsey,(Walcott or A Johnson), Tello and "the Star loan signing? to come in before transfer window ends.

RobJ

Cole will stay til Jan I think (pity). Carroll and Adam will leave. I think Spearing will stay as well (another pity).

Liverpool are still looking at bring the following players in: Ramirez, Johnson or Walcott and Dempsey. If Agger goes then Godin will come in.
Out will be: Adam, Spearing and Cole, Jonjo on a short loan. Grazer1975

Dont think Shelveys goin anywhere.

Once again we have been sold down the river paying an over inflated price for an average player. Wouldnt you have thought we would have learnt our lesson last season.

Haven't you learnt your lesson by judging players befre they play their first game?

Last season's British acquisitions were an absolute disaster , make no mistake , but I think any doubters will soon see the value of Allen in the 4-3-3 system Rodgers plays .

Remember - he NEVER gives the ball away .

Difference being, Rodgers has worked with Allen and knows how good he is. Kenny hadn't

Red Raw

A player who keeps possession and can pass as well as he does is a good player.

Allen is a bargain at £15M. He will occupy the central slot dictating the pace and distributing the ball. Lucas will act as shield in front of the back four and cover for defenders taking the ball forward, Gerrard will operate along the back of the front three picking up stray balls and breaking up opposition counter attacks before they even get out of their own half. That is a pretty formidable line-up in anybody's books and in reserve we will have Shelvey, Henderson and even the likes of Coady and Teixiera who are al going to now get the time to develop into the system. RED LENIN

Why not sign your posts?

MIKEY

Just because hes british doesnt make him s**t. give the guy a chance ffs. the price is irrelevant. this time next year u could be saying what a bargain he is.

Allen is a very good player with potential to be better. What puzzles me is why BR didnt go for Allen first. Why did he go for Gylfi Sigurdsson and after failing to get him then go for Allen. Did BR think that Gylfi was the better of the two players? Did he think they were both on the same level but Allen has the better attitude and is not motivated by money? And what about Allen knowing he was BR second choice? Any idea Ed's what was the situation behind this transfer? {Ed052's Note - He might have wanted to go for both - thus the interest in Sahin perhaps?]

Gylfi also wasn't a Swansea player and Allen was and it was always going to be a bit tricky going back in for Swansea players. I think he wanted both.

11 Aug 2012 10:13:45
Cole is staying unless we get a fee for him, Rodgers likes him, thinks he can revive his Liverpool career. Also don't think he is too keen on taking a paycut either.

Luis

Really hope not!

Great times ahead.
Suarez signing a new contract.
2 quality young signings who really do have a lot of potential.
Agger will stay.
All we need is this Brazilian now.

Damo

Enrique looks very hairy. He could do with a Brazilian tbf.

Which Brazilian is that then?

11 Aug 2012 09:46:11
Hi just wanted to no if we signed sahin where would he play considering we have Lucas gerrard Allen shelvy Adam cole Henderson thanks great site

I'm not the manager but I don't see Adam in our plans. And I reckon Rodgers thinks SHelvey will benefit from a season on loan to get regular games. If thats the case, it leads us with a midfield of Gerrard, Lucas, Allen, Henderson and Spearing so Sahin could defo strengthen that

AZ

Back up for Gerrard

I think from now on that Gerrard isn't going to play as many games a season as he has done in the past so Sahin will be in there for that reason.
I agree that Adam will go but I think Shelvey will stay.

11 Aug 2012 09:45:23
Hi Eds
can you throw any light on the situation with Pacheco has looked really good in pre season but heard rumour he is out of favour with liverpool any idea why? {Ed002's Note - I was under the impression this would be a fresh start. Maybe he is miffed at not getting a chance in teh EL games?}

Eventually I want to play Suso in Gerrards Role or even Downings in the First Team. I think he could be like Messi With that Left Peg and Dribbling, Or David Silva Esc. But instead we will buy someone like Dempsey for this. Reservesfc YNWA

I think Shelvey is going to be groomed to replace Gerrard. As good as Suso is he will need to adapt to find a place in our first 11

Careful about comparing youth team players to top stars (Silva) or the greatest player of all time (Messi)

Suso needs to adapt !

What does downing need to do then please inform me ??

I think Shelvey needs games mate and I think a loan period this season would do him the world of good.I would like to think that Henderson will be the main cover for the midfield roles.

Suso is more like Silva not Messi. Messi and Ronaldo have pace to burn Suso is a clever player, great touch, vision. Sterling is more Messi-like... By the way neither are better than Downing at this stage so let's let them develop and the get excited!

Future midfield 3 of Suso, Lucas & Allen. Shelvey & Hendo will find it hard to fit in as they are competing with Allen who is a much better player.

I think even Adorjan & Texeira will fit the (StevieG) role behind the frontmen better than them 2 and they will never be like Lucas for the DM position.

I actually think Hendo will go on-line and not Shelvey who will play a bit.

Thoughts?

Lol you cant just tell downing to become messi or silva and expect a transformation overnight!

11 Aug 2012 09:39:03
Do you think Allen will get any game time in the friendly on Sunday?

I hope so, he should be fitter than everyone else due to the Olympics, plus a friendly would be a great oppurtunity to bed him into the team.

I think he will ,in place of shelvey .the same team as Thursday

I agree. Allen will play with Lucas in the middle as they will need to hit the ground running. Some are saying that there will be a lot of changes from Thursday, but I think he will start with his first eleven.I would like to see Walcott and Sturridge added to the squad, along with cover for left back and that would do it for me.Let's all get behind whoever pulls on the red shirt lads.I have a good feeling about the new season.Come On You Reds.
Jiminy Cricket

Prefer Dempsey to Sturridge (rubbish attitude) but I like Walcott who has matured into a fine player and looks to be over his injury problems.

Dempsey will do far more for us over the next 3 seasons than either of those other two

Predictions for next season:
1.We finish midtable.
2.Southampton/WestHam/Reading will have a good season.
3.We spend over the odds for the likes of Jay Rodriguez, James Tomkins, Chris Gunter...
4.After the signings of these "young&british talents" we will try to sell/loan/release the likes of Allen,Henderson, Carroll...
I'm not really happy with Allen. With £15m we could have bought Shaqiri (20years) for £9m and Xhaka (19) for £6m.Two players with Champions League experience.Anyway, i hope i'm wrong and you will slate me.
Esna

It will be a pleasure to slate you!

How can you take anyone seriously who thinks we should have bought Shaqiri instead of Allen - he moved to Munich a few months ago.

JRG

You probably wish Allen had signed for your team obviously.

The plus point with Allen is that he has premiere league experience and that's the difference .cheers psv

The problem with your logic? You assume those players are both available and want to come here. Liverpool is a tough sell these days.

Have we had a PepeCam update yet today? {Ed002's Note - A couple of hours back Sparky walked Pepe all of the way down to the Tesco store on Vale Road so he could pick up his copy of the International Herald Tribune (special order) and a few nibbles for Pepe. On the way back Pepe became a little frisky and ran off on to Allerton Park golf course. Sparky soon found and castigated him. After returning home Pepe went off to get in a little light training and Sparky buried the TV remote in the garden.}

That made me giggle.

Out of interest, do we have webcams on any other players?

JRG {Ed002's Note - PepeCam is our first attempt in this new market. There is talk of Sparky having his own Twitter account soon.}

We should get a RedTurk cam, or a Bosco cam...oh no, that would be so depressing...Bosco gets up, crawls out from under his rock, types a negative message, crawls back under his rock, repeats. Yep, depressing. Ulsterpool

I tell you what, that Pepe is a frisky little beggar...it's some schlep from Tesco to the Golf Course (across a Dual Carriageway too). Sparky needs to discipline him!!

I was thinking that too - think ED002 has access to a street map rather than having trod the area

Seem to recall in the season gone not many free kicks were scored, and I don't think we are getting a FK Specialist.
Hope Gerrard and Suarez produce the goods this season in that regard...
Cal

We got a freekick specialist last year. You know, the balding Scottish one. He's not very good and we may be moving him on. You shouldn't look for a player based on their abilities to take frees.

Besides, Gerrard's takes a good freekick as long as he's more than 5 yards from the endline. His corners are poor though.

- Something Red -

Adam kept having the ball swept off him - if theres one thing he's good at its free kicks

Borini watch his free kick for swansea

Walcott 2011/12
9 Goals 11 assists
Downing 2011/12
2 Goals 6 assists

And your point actually is what? - the only guarantee is Downing can certainly not have such a bad season as the last.

Downings always crap first year of a new team

Assists are a misleading stat. You could theoretically make 150 chances for strikers that are all missed, or make 10 and they all lead to goals.

The assist stat only works if the assisted finds the net. Difference being, Walcott had RVP who knows where the goal is. We has Andy Carroll who spent most of the season falling over and rolling around.

Red Raw

As a midfielder all that matters are goal, surely. Next season! Pull your finger out Downing

Not really a rumour, but more of a question/statement.

I read a few weeks ago one of te ed's talking about our players, and saying that downing is a good player, and just needs his confidence back.

I remember watching him against Arsenal in the first/second game of last season and thinking he was going to be a quality signing. Not sure if anyone remembers his little run where he cut in from the right and hit a rocket towards the top left corner, only for it to ricochet off the crossbar.

I agree with the eds completely, as in this game it looked like we had finally solved our winger issues. But a few games after he just kept hitting near-misses and his head dropped. What we need is for him to score 1/2 early on and have a few good games and I'm sure he will turn out great for us this season.

Just trying to be positive, and help out all the doubters and critics our there.

LFCbBilly

Agree entirely. He's a confidence player.
That game was against Sunderland though

Agreed. I have always rated Downing and have been patiently waiting for him to come out of his shell and play well for us. I still believe he can do it.

AmRed

Carroll, Hendo, Adam and sometimes Enrique, Cole and Spearing have been seriously lacking in confidence. Never mind the transfer market, let's hope BR can get the best out of these guys first and foremost....

I hear liverpool officials are in Madrid today to talk about Sahin and maybe enquire about Callejon.

Callejon would be nice (RF), we don't need Sahin (CM). Give young players a chance.

Sahin is a smokescreen!

It would be Callejon for me!

how close are we to completing a move for Gaston Ramirez {Ed002's Note - "Close" is a very subjective term and without a unit of measurement there is no real way to answer this. Could be a country mile or a gnat's whisker.}

Inn watts or joules or milli watts

The Scoville scale, please

IN: Dempsey, A.Johnson
OUT: Adam Cole
Problem Solved

Who's Adam Cole? How much we going to get for him? Lol

A Radio DJ in the North west but supports man utd

Adam cole is better than joe cole anyway

Add Spearing to the outs......please!

Really guys adam cole really? fine adam AND cole

Financially the squad is much better younger lower wage bill and just much better from the owners perspective however competitively we still need more signings no question.
We should sell Cole and Adam
We need a Attacking RW and another ST
Not sure if walcott is a good option, high wages and inconsistent Love to see Dempsey

Agree agree agree

For some reason I think the next signings will be in his order: loan player, Adam Johnson or Walcott, dempsey.

Would prefer gaston Ramirez to take that winger role but doesn't look like that's going to happen.

Nuri Sahin, Ally Cissokho, Isco and Tello coming in before transfer window closes!

N.Sahin and Tello coming on a season long loan whilst Cissokho for left back competition.

Isco (Malaga) is the next Iniesta! Borini-Suarez-Isco, Gerrard-Allen-Lucas

BR will not be looking at either out and out wingers, or out and out center forwards. BR's system is set out in a 4 player diamond consisting of a Striker, an inside forward on either side of the striker, and an attacking midfielder behind the striker. These positions are then rotated like a wheel. So that the players occupying these positions have an opportunity to play in all of those positions during the course of the 90 min. Thats why its wasnt only suarez who lookee like he was all over. Downing, gerrard and borini looked too. Because they rotate. Now any players that BR would be looking to bring in would need to have the ability and qualities to play in all 4 of those positions to fit his system(another reason why it would be impossible for carroll to fit in.)
YNWA The Pirate

Players would need to have the speed and skill of a winger, finishing of a striker, vision and passing and pressing ability of a midfielder.
ALAN will then sit behind that wheel(like xavi does for barca) knocking short passes and through balls to the runners ahead of him.

The wingbacks have licence to push forward down the wings and lucas will step in behind them to cover the space left behind when they push forward.

The movement of this wheel would make the players impossible to man mark and therefore Creating so much space for Suarez to run rampant. The moment a defender marks suarez, he finds he's being pulled out of position and another player is now striker. The defence would be so bamboozeled the only way to defend against this would be to park the bus the way chelsea did against barca. And the liverpool will have 85% of possession and reina can have a nap.
YNWA The Pirate

A team playing this system does not need mega stars. The system alone makes average players look like superstars.

How will Reina have a nap? He will have a backpass to him every 25sec

Gotta let Reina do something yo make him feel his wages are being earned.

Just noticed on the Liverpool website that J Cole has not had his photo taken in the new Warrior kit. Check out the profiles on the first team section, you will see that all first teamers are in the new warrior kit and Cole isn't.......interesting! {Ed002's Note - Another secret message.}

It's because he's not much of a warrior

More of a worrier
REDditch

Joe Allen does not even have a kit on and he will be a first teamer..............

Iggypop

But Adam and spearing are in the kit? I'd rathe get rid of these two than joe cole.

Joe Cole is a waste of space and wages. Imo the only thing BR has got wrong so far.

Tbfair Rogers isnt doing anything wrong as Cole was a Hodgson signing, and now they cant offload him. If Rodgers can find a club for him, its not his fault that teams wont pay his ridiculous wages.

11 Aug 2012 08:42:30
with rodgers style he will need certain kind of players.this is what i believe rodgers has in mind.

kuyt borini
maxi ??
bellamy ??
adam allen
spearing ??
carroll ??

he would like to bring 4 more players in and that will be very difficult to do in 1 transfer window,he will have to hang on to some of them but adam spearing and carroll are not in his future plans.
the back 4 is very solid.
midfield is strong and in attack we need more players.
the game against gomal we could see that the first 11 will give any team a game, but the bench is to weak.
we need another winger and striker and a left footed midfielder.
if we get them in and they are quality we will finish top 4.
next season we need to bring in 2/3 class players wich will be easier having cl football, and we will play for the league i am 100% sure

11 Aug 2012 08:40:21
good to see Joe Allen has signed, now get ready for more players to arrive. it's exciting when players come in to the club during transfer window, but also worrying when you think some of your best players could be up for sale.

11 Aug 2012 08:40:17
Just an observation, not a rumour. What a difference the fans made on Thursday, if we get behind the team like that all season, we can be the 12th man and make Anfield the fortress of old. Red nets and new red kit could also be factors in Brendan's philosophy, a la Shanks!

Agreed. The atmosphere has been getting steadily worse at Anfield since Rafa left. When we came 2nd in 08/09 there were some tremendous atmospheres. Since then it's getting like a funeral pyre.

It's because they reduced the prices and the schools are off amigo, so more scousers took their kids. Give it a month and it'll be quiet again.

11 Aug 2012 08:37:14
I wud love to see Robin Van Persie at LFC, wud like to no everyone's opinion on that? {Ed002's Note - It is not going to happen.}

Think you need to channel that imagination of yours to the Fantasy Football League M8t!

He spends more time at the docs that Danny Agger

He never said we are going to sign him all he said was I would love to sign rvp CHILL OUT

11 Aug 2012 08:24:23
Ok let's imagine we keep the players we have and need no replacements, it still looks like we need a right sided attacking player and probably another forward ( still lacking a bit of creativity for me ).
Who would we all like ( realisticly ), and who looks favourite then.
Feel free to join in Ed's.

I think your getting the wrong idea. When you play 3 forwards up front all of them have to have similair qualities (skill, pace, versatility to play in any of the positions, an obviously putting the ball in the back of the net). It's not that we need a ride sided winger that you would expect in a 4-4-2, more like a striker/winger that can play any front 3 position. Look at barcas front 3 (Sanchez was previously a striker but plays on the wing, same for David villa) expect to see two more players come in for the front 3 position.

Striker Dempsey
Attacking player tello or afellay or Ramirez
And we need Sahin for midfield rotation

11 Aug 2012 08:15:09
Cant believe there are still people saying we have overpaid for Allen? I think it's great buisness. He's young, had a great season, international experience, fits the britiash player quota, is improving all the time, will have no issuses with the british culture/weather/food and the manager knows his game and personality.
I think him and Henderson are going to be great for years for us.
If it makes you feel better look at it this way.
Gareth Barry £100,000 a week (as is Joe cole I believe actually) that is £26 m over 5years not including the transfer fee.
Joe Allen £45,000 a week is £11.7 m add the £15m and it's £26.7m.
Who has time to improve? who has the potential for a large resale value? and who could end up playing for 10 years for you ( making the savings greater)?
And before people bring up agaents fees, tax, signing on fees, they will apply to both anyway and it is just a simple estimated example.
The true measure of the signing is that I dont know of a Swansea fan that thinks we have paid over the odds, and it's been a while since we can say that about a player.
RNred {Ed002's Note - JCs wages include a signing on fee extrapolated across the length of his contract.}

I agree with you completely. I try not to fall into the trap of the sensationsalisation of transfer fees. I am not so bothered what fees we pay or deemed to pay. I am more concerned if i believe the player will add something to our team. Joe Allen from what i have seen is neat and tidy and will fit in good. I always had the same opinion as you in terms of wages and sell on value being a factor in player value. Also if you take the situation that Arsenal find themselves in with Van Persie. Will Arsenal get his true value ? Not a hope. I would suggest we not get obsessed with transfer fees and see what the lad does on the pitch. I often think that unless a player is in the top twenty players in the world supporters think he is not good enough. That is fantasy stuff. Anyway good luck to Joe Allen, looking forward to supporting you.

Cheers Ed, it backs up the point though that people get hung up on the transfer fee reported, instead of the actual long term cost over the term of the contract, and even beyond.
I think it's something you have tried to explain on numerous occasions yourself.
RNred

Ed002, just out of interest, how do you know so much about football finances and sporting legal issues?

Joe {Ed002's Note - In my job as a rodeo clown I get a lot of spare time to cruise Twitter and score all of this neat information.}

11 Aug 2012 08:11:31
Hi Ed,

Why are we letting players join for next to nothing fees
All of these players have gone to Well to Do clubs, and had time left on their contract.

Kuyt : 0.8 M (Dutch international, atleast 3M)
Maxi : Free (Argentine internatinal, atleast 2M)
Bellamy : Free (played well last season, Atleast 2M)

Even last year Insua was allowed for no fees?

We could have got atleast 5M for our international player..?

Thanks,
BhavRedz {Ed002's Note - Kuyt had provision in his contract allowing him to move at a low fee. There was no value of note in the others and removing them from the wages has benefits.}

I liked insua

I agree with what Ed002 has to say about there being value in removing them from the wage bill. Another factor is that the players wanted to move back home (bellamy and Maxi) and they were on very high wages at LFC compared to what the clubs they have gone to would pay them. So they took a pay cut to move or would have to be subsidized with the transfer fee like Aqualani was.

Not a rumour, but a query. Does anyone have any idea where I can buy the new Liverpool jerseys in India? It was fairly easy to pick up a jersey while we were still sponsored by adidas, but I can't figure out how Warrior is selling these in India. Would be really grateful for any help.

Cheers
Ray

Not sure if you can or not but have you tried online?

Red Raw

Try the Liverpool wedsite mate

Same query here too! Any tie-ups with other brands?

Order from the official website...You should get it in a week or so...

Red PG

I ordered mine online and got it. In India, we cannot get numbers and names printed on kits and even Adidas stores don't do it, so if you want printed kits, you should order online and the best option is buying from the official website. It used to take a month when we were with Adidas but somehow I got the new Warrior kit in a week. So shouldn't be a problem.

ed's are liverpool close to signing sahin on loan thanks lfc-ukkah {Ed002's Note - "Close" is a subjective term and there is much interest in Sahin.}

11 Aug 2012 07:39:34
Hi Eds...great work...my fav site. Just wanted to know your thoughts and what is the likelyhood of Tello,Sahin,A.johnson,Walcott and Dempsey will all sign before the end of the transfer window {Ed002's Note - Very, very unlikely.}

Not all of them will sign, think about how packed that would make our squad and how many first team players would want to play. It's going to be a loan player, then Adam Johnson or walcott, then dempsey

11 Aug 2012 07:08:00
I definitely believe we need 4 strikers, if we are to compete on all fronts. If Andy does go we will need a replacement. With the system BR plays, another winger/striker type will do. Our game against Gomel was very exciting, couldn't believe how quickly the halves went! Borini looks the part, and I've only heard good things about Allen. Exciting times ahead LFC fans!

A big welcome to Allen and best wishes to Bellamy! But this transfer window is seriously confusing me...with Allen we now have 5 senior Mid-fielders in Gerrard, Adam, Henderson, Allen and Shelvey, i truely believe that is one too many and in thr DM position Lucas and Spearing, but Spearing i dont think is good enough! And with Bellamy now joining the likes of Kuyt and Maxi we are left with just 2 winger/wide players in Downing and Cole!
At tis juncture the squad looks too un balanced to me, hope we can add balance to the squad before the end of the transfer window by selling Spearing and probably Adam and bring in a quality DM (Sahin), 2 wide players (Vargas or Tello and Dempsy) and one LB.

Sahin is not a DM. He is a deep lying playmaker in CM (like Alonso). He is not a Lucas type.

Look what happened to lucas last season mate you can not have enough good midfielders its a long hard season so be happy we have so many or face a struggle when players get injured

Morning eds

Just a quick question. If reports are to be believed our transfer budget was around 20 million. Can we assume that there won't be any purchases until somebody is sold (not including loans).

So if there are any more signings before we sell anybody would only be loan signings. At the moment our squad is down Kuyt Rodriguez and Bellamy an we have brought in borini. I would expect another two wingers and a striker if Carroll gets sold.

However, I wonder where the money will come from for these signings.

What are your thoughts eds? Do we have more than 20 million to spend on transfers?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I really don't want to get into discussing money.}

If you want to believe everything you read then we have now exceeded our transfer limit. As eds have said time and time again, transfers fees are done per player. There's no bottomless pit like Man City or Chelsea but there is money there if needed.

Red Raw

Errrrrrr i dnt know if you've noticed... but borini 11m and allen 15m = 26m??

clm96p

If you actually read my post you would notice that I said a "reported" 20 million. For all we know the deals for the other sales equate to 6 million? Kuyt Aquilani etc.

I only put my thoughts out there. I suppose you prefer being abusd by people asking if we are signing messi? Just a hypothetical question to provoke a debate.

I'll just watch the rumours instead of how they saw players in the airport etc as that is obviously more interesting than an actual discussion

HI all,

1-I personally think our midfield player for new season is Lucas, Joe Allen, Hendo, Jonjo, stevie g.. Charlie Adam n Spearing should be loan out..
2-I definitely think we are going to sign 2 more players, a winger and another striker/attacking mid..
We interested in Walcott, Gaston Ramirez which is perfect player for Rodger's style of play.

Hope these 2 players will be our player soon.

Firstly LfC need sell Cole, Adam, Pacheco, Spearing and Carroll for combined £30mln

Then buy: Sahin (loan), walcott(12mln), g. Ramirez(16mln)

How do you get 30 million for those players going out?

RyanWhittington&hisCat

Carroll: 20m
Adam: 5m
Cole: 2m
Pacheco: 3m
Spearing: 2m

= 32m

3m for Pacheco?

cozinoz

Carroll: 15m
Adam: 5m
Cole: 0m - cause we will end up paying him
Pacheco: 1m
Spearing: 0.5m

If we lucky

With the departures of the likes of kurt maxi aurelio bellamy aqulani etc (spellings) and having already signed borini and allen I think that well make at least four more signings also if/when Mr Rodgers get the players he want really guys will henderson and carroll be of first choices in the starting 11 I know its a long season dont get me wrong because I love every player thats plays for my beloved club YNWA

I was thinking about the formation for next season and it seems like the majority think Rodgers will play 4-3-3 like he did at Swansea. Just wanted to get people's opinions on a 4-3-1-2 formation with Gerrard as the '1', in this position Gerrard would have the freedom to roam between midfield and attack while Lucas, Henderson and Allen could make up the '3'.

R-LFC

But that would leave only 2 forwards, borini and suarez maybe? id still stick to what BR is doing. because this seems to work. and gerrard seems to thrive in this formation.

gotta hand it to gerrard though, first game against gomel he looked abit lost, and cant play a quick pass, seems to need to look up before making a pass and then lost the ball. and in the 2nd game within a week it was like he was born to play this tiki taka thing, intelligent runs, beautiful 1-2s, he is definitely class above the others. i am so impressed with what gerrard can do and how fast he changes his game and learn.

Kaizer

Ah, the Christmas Tree.

Andy K

If Gerrard was younger that would work but as we saw for England gerrard's lost a bit of pace and plays better slightly more defensive now so i think 4-3-3 will work

Rodgers style is actually more a 4-2-3-1 with 4 attacking players and 2 CM's who holkd back a bit. If the inside fwd's push on it is essentially 4-2-1-3

I think the diffrence in gerrards performance in both game was LOUIS SUAREZ give stevie a player on his level he thrives like he did with torres

Ed's, I have been logging onto this website for over 12 months now. It's great. I look at it 5-10 times a day during transfer windows. It's addictive !

I have no rumour, but was wondering how the Ed's are so in the know - esp Ed002?
What are your day jobs?
How did you get involved in this site - volunteers?
Are you all UK based?
Have you ever thought about an "about us" section?

whats the lastest about agger's situation, I really dont want to see him leave and what is going on about the club's naming right btw loved the way we played today. Special big up to the eds and all loyals fans like myself.

Harde876 {Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed with Agger as far as I can tell. Additionally there is nothing new with the naming rights beyond what was said originally in that I believe that tehre is a very good chance that naming rights will be sold to fund or part fund the redevelopment of Anfield.}

11 Aug 2012 02:39:13
Very happy with Allen signing, hopefully, another striker/attacker, left back, goalkeeper, whilst offloading Cole, Carroll, Adam, Spearing. Looked good last night if we can take that kind of play into the new season it offers a lot of potential of a top 4 stop.

11 Aug 2012 02:36:37
Hey Ed's, is there any chance of Michael Owen signing? I think he could be worth a punt if we could get him on a pay-as-you-play contract. He's still a top class finisher and his experience would be invaluable to Borini and Morgan. {Ed002's Note - I would doubt it.}

Michael Owen? No thanks
Torres? No thanks
Mascherano? No thanks
Aquilani? No thanks

They're not coming back and thank god for that

One of the most washed up strikers going.

I would rather re-sign Diouf.

eds could you please answer a question ?
would you think that us refusing to accept an offer for agger from city would make it harder for us to get adam johnson ? {Ed002's Note - I cannot see it would make any difference. If MC wish to sell the player and Liverpool make an acceptable bid then it is good business for all.}

Belaamy is gone now. Adding that to Maxi and Kuyt, that amkes three forwards we have lost so far, and only one in (Borini). Doesn't that worry you guys a bit,

Aren't we looking thin, especially the remaining few forward gets injured or are suspended?
NosKee

I think loosing, Bellamy, Kuyt and Carrol would leave us short. If Andy stays not so bad, but think we will bring in at least 1 more, it may however be a replacement for Andy.

Nothing to fret over just yet mate. No doubt the next couple of players we see coming in will be players who play higher up the pitch. Who exactly those players will be is anyone's guess right now.

I think we might be chasing 2 or 1 more forwards, dempsey, tello, affelay, ramirez are being rumoured. id be happy with tello and dempsey. or tello and ramirez. just my opinion.

Good friday evening eds and fellow reds :)

I know this has probably been posted already, but I just want to say goodbye to Craig Bellamy!

I was so overjoyed when he turned out to be 'the former player returning to LFC' that Macca was refering to when he was sharing information at that time (correctly again).

I loved you in both your spells at LFC and you will always have a special place in my heart.

I wish you all the best at your hometown club and I hope you get to have the honour of bringing them to the Premier League.

All the best Craig :)

Couldnt of put it better my self mate good luck craig you were a joy to watch hope to see you in prem next season

Just had a quick mooch on the "MANCHESTER UNITED" page, I have placed the name of that awful club in inverted commas for a reason.

One deluded manc just posted this comment....
Joe Allen is poor and we have a much better version in Cleverly . Did the guy not watch the olympics.

Second deluded fan also commented in saying Kagawa is one of the best in the world ?

What the actual f***!

God i actually hate mufc with a passion they are all know it all persons. Praying we make a few more signings to strengthen our current team and hopefully are able to compete with CL football.

LTP THE RED !! YNWA

If you hate them so much why you scrolling there pages??? Joe allen is quality, end of! Let them worry about there threadbare midfield while we strengthen ours! Joe would walk straight into there midfield n they know it! Sour mancs that is all! What you think eds?
HARDY1892 YNWA

Kagawa is a VERY good player. Gutted when they signed him.

cozinoz

He is indeed cozinoz, but he's not remotely what the mancs need for their team this season. I genuinely feel they will struggle this year, even with Howard Webb et al. Ulsterpool

Ye in the german league lets see in the EPL when he is getting the big tacklers around his ankles

Hope so, Ulsterpool. Moura turned them down, Hazard turned them down, RVP might turn them down (but even if he doesn't, he'll be out for half the season).
As good as Kagawa is, he won't make up for Carrick, Cleverley and Old Man Scholes

cozinoz

Don't judge players based on the Olympics.

It means f**k all.

Allen is quality though. But I'm not basing that assessment on anything Olympics related.

BJH YNWA

You are all deluded. The closest Joe allen would get to the man utd team is cleaning scholes' boots.

The closest Paul Scholes would get to the Liverpool team is an OAP discount on the Anfield tour

What I was going to say was I think some of the people on this website want 83+ rated player's on fifa while our player's are rated bellow LOOL, just kidding but seriously why does everyone think borini and allen are flop's first of borini played his first match at anfield and scored and also played good while allen hasn't even played for us yet, cut the slack some of you. Also ed's do you reckon we will get tello or sahin on loan, I tried the search function but
Couldn't find anything. (Sorry ed's I recall something about to post on mobile I need my email address if so you don't need to post this but could you notify it on the page?)
Thank you

Red Star's {Ed049's Note - There is a good chance Tello and Sahin will be come on loan.}

Would you say Tello more likely now Allen has signed Ed, or a very crowded midfield. And hopefully an option to buy clause in any loan deals.
RNred {Ed002's Note - Why would Tello become more likely because Allen has signed? I don't understand your point.}

I think he means cause Sahjn and Allen are similar players

Tell them not to worry - I'd imagine they'll be 83+ for the new FIFA game.

Which means (naturally) that when the new version of FIFA is released, the aforementioned players will improve overnight.

They improve overnight in real life too, obviously - if you use fifa ratings logic.

PS - Stupid isn't it.

I think with 2 signings we can definetly push for the top 4 and possibly more. As we all know Rodgers will play 4-3-3.
The spine of the team will be reina, lucas(DCM) gerrard(FREE ROLE).
Agger & Skrtel (CB).
Johnson(RB) & Enrique(LB) will provide the width.

Allen & Downing either side of lucas.
Suarez & Borini either side of Gerrard.

if we signed ramirez and mirallas we end up with what I think can put the sh**s up any team...

Reina
Agger Skrtel
Johnson Enrique
Lucas
Allen Ramirez
Gerrard
Suarez Mirallas

Subs: Gk, Coates, Kelly, Downing, Borini, Sterling, Flanagan, Henderson.

Mirallas and ramirez are available for around 28m for the pair of them.
The next signing we make will tell us a lot about this season. Expect a good season from downing (Rodgers as a british manager will get the best out of him) Ramirez is not a necessity. But we need a Mirallas type of player who draws defenders in and will create space for suarez and gerrard and allen and Ramirez to run into.
I wish I was Brendan Rodgers for a day!
Great site.
Cheers.

Was Dalglish not a British Manager?

"I feel incredible. Everyone knows the history of this club, it's a massive club, and I'm delighted to have joined"

Welcome to Liverpool, Joe. Prepare to have your name echoed around Anfield by the greatest supporters in football. I firmly believe Allen will be the link we need in midfield to propel us into contention for a CL spot alongside our skipper and Lucas. It's been a while since I've felt so confident to see our team walk out against any team we face. Cannot wait to see us bury Steve Clarke's men in the opening game and show what a force we'll be this season.

JP.

I go along with your optimism in the main but when you talk of us "burying Steve Clarkes team" I cringe. Obviously I'd love this to happen but be aware that West Brom have made a few very astute signings as well and could be more of a threat than you envisage.
Let's show a little more respect for "smaller" teams, I'm sure they've earned some against us over the last few years

Sorry, forgot to sign my post

Chris in Tamworth

Spot on, Chris - we shouldn't underestimate any PL team this year. Let's not develop the same arrogance they have at Old Trafford as they look so funny with egg on their faces :)

Chris in Tamworth, wasn't it Gerrard who himself said we've shown too much respect to teams? I personally think we respect every team we play against but I think it's important to go out and play with much more aggression as we did in the last match, and 'burying' a team is a turn of phrase, it doesn't insinuate being disrespectful, it means showing them up and leaving them metaphorically for dead. But yeah maybe you're right, maybe we should be much more respectful? Worked for us so well last season! Carry on cringing, I'll stick to my view, after all that's what this website is about isn't it?

JP.

I disagree.
Not to be arrogant but we show too much respect to lower teams already, that's why we draw or lose against them.
We show little respect to the top teams and always do well.
Every team is good, we've just got to believe were better.
Damo

My point wasn't that the team should show respect in fact the team should believe they can beat anyone and everyone but as fans we should be a little more level headed. It's the ridiculous swings from "we're the next Barca" to "we won't finish top half" that make this site unreadable some days.

If the rumours of a "star" loan signing and that kaka is the supposed player in question. Maybe the hold up in the Luka Modric to Real Madrid deal could be stalling this. Just a suggestion and I'm in no way saying that Kaka is the star signing mentioned.

P.S. Delighted with the Joe Allen deal and best of luck to Craig Bellamy who deserves a great deal of respect for his decision to move to Cardiff on a substantially lower wage.

Good theory but it's not Kaka . Macca has told us who Liverpool are interested in and his name was not mentioned. I have been saying for a while now I expect Liverpool to beat Arsenal to the signing of Sahin and I am guessing that this is the 'major star' Macca was talking about.

Rodgers saying teams are giving Liverpool a hard time with transfer fees. No surprise.
Don't expect walcott sahin tello Dempsey A.Johnson all to sign I expect just one of them now with a loan signing.

11 Aug 2012 00:32:13
Does anyone else think we could challenge higher then 4th? If we get a few more transfers and we play like we did yesterday I really do think we can be strong. We played very good against big teams last season we just couldn't do little teams and I think with BR mentality we could actually be a very good contender. I mean I generally think Suarez is one of the best players in the world

If we get Walcott, A.Johnson & Sahin (loan), then yes. I believe we could easily get top 4.

Signings of Walcott an Dempsey along with Gerard stayin fit all year could deffinatly put us in the race I think.

No 1st season new manager Our squad even with say A.johnson and Dempsey isnt as good as City, United or Chelsea No chance for higher than 4th I for one Would be surprised and Delighted if we got 4th

Don't understand the " Utd " have a better squad than ours - write both squads down and compare - I think you'll find they probably only have a few players you may swap. It's not always about what players you have, it's what you do with them that matters.

John B

Consistency is what we are missing, at certain times of last year we showed true quality, especially against some of the big teams ala city, united and chelsea.

Why does anyone that post anything that could probably be termed 'constructive criticism' get completely slagged off on this site?

The price tags on players is the worst. People think that because they are now a LFC player, we should just blindly 'get behind them'. But why can't we have some constructive debate on the amount of money that we are paying. Is Joe Allen worth 15m? He may turn out to be, but are we paying the market or price or a highly inflated one because he used to work with BR.

Why do you worry so much about the money? Is that you Rick Parry?

I think you should get blindly behind the team. How much they did/didn't cost should not factor into your support of the players themselves.

Yes, Allen was probably more expensive than maybe he should have been, but the manager knows him well, wanted him, and thought he was worth it.

So, let's just see how it goes, eh?

Market value is what a team is willing to pay for a player....there is no "real" market value.

Wheter he's worth 15 mill or not remains to be seen, but if thats the price Swansea labelled him at, then what else can you do? We tried 12 million but they rejected it, if a manager wants someone he'll pay to get them, plus if its a release clause, then thats what they have to pay and then its out of Swansea's hands.

Carb

Still cheaper than Henderson.

That 15 m hasn't come out of your pocket has it so chill out.

Because the same moaners that are saying we have no money, FSG are poor, we HAVE to sell to buy and also moaning about paying 15m for Joe Allen. Make up your mind about what you're b****ing about.

The fact is that we wanted Allen. Our manager wanted Allen and the only way to get him was to pay the release clause amount of 15m. He may be market max worth 12m but FSG backed our manager and paid what was needed to get the guy HE wanted.

SpudRed

Fine, but value in monetary terms is a metaphysical concept, not static. For the sale to take place Swansea also valued the player at 15 million pounds...
I posted the other stating that having already coached him at Swansea, that BR is probably best placed to know his value ?
Answer this question, who would you have bought, for the same amount, who understands the system , league experience, same current ability and is only 22? Wages are also a consideration...
Answer those questions and you go some way to explaining the value of our new player.
Paul Mc

Fair point m8 But English Players especially who are in the prem have far too high Market Price as it is Not much you can do about it you have to meet the quota

Last summer we bought Downing over Mata for so called "league experience"!

Thank you bellars, all the best!

Absolutely love Bellars! He's a legend in my opinion and I'm pleased he came back for a second spell. Good luck Craig, I hope you fire Cardiff into the premier league!

More than a month ago, while everyone was talking about a certain gentleman's agreement, Macca informed us that "Allen was a definite target", along with Borini. Guess who's in the bag already?! Do you wonder why this site is so addictive?
Thank you Macca; thank you eds.

I second that m8! Nice heads up Macca. We know you don't have to do any of this for us, but you do! Cheers for that!

Thanks you Eds as well!

Every good team has a crosser of the ball we only have S Gerrard ?who should we sign ?

dannybhoy

We dont cross much

Its called Tiqui-taca. Look it up.

How many traditional wingers that cross the ball do Barca have? How many do Spain have?

SpudRed

Suarez downing hendo enrique johnson can all put good balls in the box

So, Rodgers now has his Emlyn Hughes. Over the next 1-2 years he will make that team his.

I will probably get slaughtered here but just wondering if anyone has doubts about Lucas' ability to function in a 3 man midfield. I'm talking specifically about his pace or lack of to be more specific. I think he was great for us in 10/11 but it looks like he will have to cover a lot more space next season. The Allen buy might help to negate this as he seems to have good pace. Any thoughts? {Ed019's Note - I don't think Lucas is that slow tbh}

Hi Ed - hope you are right but I remember him being left for dead by Nasri at the Emirates beginning last season who I wouldnt consider to be that pacy

I'm sorry but this is the worst post of the day, leave the future captain alone!;)

Lucas is simply a master of his trade .

TheScarf

I think Lucas will fit in perfectly, Lucas is as good as Sergio Busquets if not better and Busquets doesn't have any pace either. With Allen in the team he will bring that box to box midfielder with added pace and take the work load off Steven Gerrard. Hopefully we will get rid of Adam and Spearing, keep Shelvey who is getting better with Henderson. Hopefully we will get Nuri Sahin and a few more wingers/attacking players we will be set for a decent challenge for a top four spot.

Cheers Markolfc85

Lucas is key to making our midfield tick....just go back to last season after he got injured. We had no ball winner, and started leaking ridiculous goals. You will see my friend.

...TheeFINkER...

Lucas runs just fine. he makes up for a slight lack of pace by putting himself in the right positions.

ri red

He looks quicker than ever...

Sort urself out man the last 2 years of football we have seen have been dismal to say the least one of our most consistent performers has been lucas during that time whether that under hodgson or kenny in any system or role he has been asked to hence our collapse last season with his injury brazillian international and liverpool legend in the coming years

Lucas is going to be the most important player in Brendan's system.

Boy, lucas has enough pace to outrun rooney! don't underestimate him

Savior

I remember thinking that at time then watched replay of it and it was just the way nasri timed his run he caught lucas out, I would say he's pretty average speed wise but so was Didi and alonso neither where blessed wi great pace it's speed of thought in that position and when he's on form he's fantastic.

LG

No the man has had a thought but instead of abuse it should be met with a informative answer.

Lucas is a brilliant holding midfielder with an eye for a descent pass. His high work rate and tackles are what keep possession for your team. If we are playing 3 up front you are going to want somebody stong in midfield to win that ball back allowing the front 3 to make runs.

U cant expect him to be fastest anyway, but still i dont think lucas is slow. not every footballer depend on pace though. lucas is just perfect the way he is.

Kaizer

Sometimes Lucas can be slow getting back, but I reckon 8 out of 10 hes going to win the ball higher up the field so swings and roundabouts to me. Billy Mc.

Slow? What Lucas are you watching. He was phenomenal the other night and that's when he's recovering from a serious injury and isn't up to full fitness.

In a 3-man midfield Lucas will still play his defensive midfielder role protecting the back...Allen and Gerrard will be the ones roaming forward along with Johnson...Lucas will be fine as long as he's completely over his major injury
