Ed, if we sign Enrique, will he be available to play against Sunderland on Saturday? {Ed009's Note - as soon as a player is officially signed, they are available to play.}

Hats off to thommo for getting the Enrique signing right. Reality Red

Hi Eds,

Just wondering if there has been any development regarding Cahill as it seems likely that Dann will be an Arsenal player soon should it be presumed that we are instead after Cahill. {Ed009's Note - No update since we talked to them about him a while back.}

11 Aug 2011 23:43:19
hey guys, why is cahill so likely to leave bolton?
Is his contract running down or something?
or has he said he wants to leave?

Cheers {Ed009's Note - He is in the last year of his contract. It is also clear that he is looking for a higher level of football, no disrespect to Bolton intended.}

11 Aug 2011 23:35:29
It really suprises me that we haven't bid for Dann & we are willing to pay much more for Cahill.I know Ed been saying Dann is the first option for CB + he's a Liverpool fan.I'm not saying it's bad,but bit suprising.It's a bit stupid if we're waiting for Arsenal to choose first and then go for who ever's left,specially in Dann's case.

********************LFC FANS
why are we being linked with another CB? we already have carra, skrtel and agger, plus i thought kelly's best position is CB? I'd be happy with them 4.
Now we have Enrique i can see one more signing. I feel we need to get rid of Ngog and replace him with a better striker. Someone young who can develop would be ideal.

11 Aug 2011 23:08:12
Hi ed got a couple of things firstly think enrique is class quality signing is he avaiable to play saturday? Also are the cahill rumours true? And will there be any more signings? Thanks for your time {Ed009's Note - If the signing is completed, he will be available to play. He almost certainly won't though, he may well have not even trained with the team yet.}

why does the football club have to continually keep buying new players. Within 2 seasons Glen Johson has become one of our most Senior players. a OAP in football terms.
The key to success seems to lay with the Youth system.Man utd have shown how the youth system can win them the title.

man utd introduced Phill Gary neville, Paul Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Scholes, Beckham

Now they have gone out and bought in youth structure Fabio. Rafael. Anderson, Nani, Hernandez,

And this kid Cleverley seems to be the new scholes.

Danny Welbeck. Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher, Tom Cleverley.

Man utd all of sudden seem to have very young team. I have noticed that players coming through after beckham, scholes had no chance at man utd. most these players endded up leaving, but still playing premiership football. Many people have left man utd.

Wes Brown, John O'Shea, Fraizer Campbell, Kieran Richardson, Jonathan Greening, Ryan Shawcross, Danny Simpson, Robbie Savage, Darron Gibson, Paul McShane, Jonathan Spector. Who played premiership football.

Tom Cleverley should clearly be playing first team football, but man utd will end up buying sneijder inter.

Cherry Picking Youth seems to be a cheap way to build a world class team. If your able to see juicy cherry. The Arsenal tactic.

Its a real shame 1990's premiership football has died.

Hey Ed do you think we will try to win the FA Cup or the carling cup or do you think we will focus on getting a champions league spot cheers. Zincho {Ed009's Note - I am sure we would like to win all the competitions but, as usual, the focus will be on the league.}

11 Aug 2011 22:59:42
Read it again ed033 poor attempt of humor, we would pay 5m to get rid of said player. Long day Ed?

olimpiakos have been excluded from the europa league but liverpool will not be taking their place. fc differdange 03 from luxembourg have taken their place.

11 Aug 2011 22:26:44
eds do you think we will make any foreign signings before the end of the transfer window? players like subotic and vargas have been rumoured? thanks {Ed002's Note - I don't see either of those joining.}

11 Aug 2011 22:40:35
Hats off to Macca again with the transfer news, shame there seem to be those willing to have a pop.

I seem to remember quite a while ago that Macca identified main priorites as Downing, Adam and Enrique.

Keep up the good work mate, and keep us informed

Martin

11 Aug 2011 22:32:20
i agree that we need a lb and cb but i still think we need another winger. hazard and mata won't happen this year so a.johnson and perotti are more likely. what do you think ed's. {Ed009's Note - whether we need one or not, we almost certainly won't get one. Perhaps next year.}

11 Aug 2011 22:20:34
Ed, in your opinion who do you think is the better defender and footballer, Cahill or Dann? {Ed009's Note - Dann, but I rate both players quite highly. Dann is certainly the better defender but Cahill will chip in with a lot of goals.}

11 Aug 2011 22:13:57
What ever happened to the self proclaimed Tu**z? He seems to have disappeared as quickly as one of his fairytales.... guess not a surprise considering not one of his suggestions actually came to fruition Although Joey B could still in theory end up at Anfield and God help us all if he does, LFC does not need or should ever accomodate scum like him
Long live the Turdz....please come back mate all is forgiven....

I think if ti came to we could have got on this season without buying a LB however im glad we have with Aurellio to injury prone and Robinson too young Enrique seems a good buy and for 6m a bit of a bargain -Mc

Is it true Bolton have made a four mil bid for ngog and just to let all the aqualani fans that he may potentially stay As in an interview he did say he would stay at afield As he wants to show he is good enough to play in the prem...

11 Aug 2011 21:58:23
I believe liverpool should table a cash plus ngog for cahill, then spend the rest of the transfer season trying to offload the unwanted players, even if it is on a cheap, eg letting cole insua degan etc going for free or like under 5 million, to rebalance the wage books. If we dont buy first we may lose out, and then end up with a half complete squad for the season, and come 5th again causing players like suarez to want to leave if they get a decent offer from a big club.

Peace

after watching highlights of some south american league football, i noticed they had sponsors on their shirt sleeves, was just wondering why premier league teams don't have them? would be good extra revenue? {Ed009's Note - I do not think that you are permitted to have more than one main sponsor on your shirt in the Premier League.}

11 Aug 2011 21:36:34
tuncay just signed for bolton there goes the ngog+cash rumours

Could anyone tell me what was being discussed at the end of tonights Press Box on LFC TV. I had just got in from work late and just caught the very end of the program , did I hear Mata being discussed or am I mistaken . Is this the reason the Mata rumours have re-surfaced . I can't see it to be honest .

Hi Eds.

Can you tell me why Liverpool rarely get players on loan? Would seem a good way of gathering wether they are premier league quality and up to the pace rather than buying them outright then realising they are naff, (degan, insua, el-zhar etc). Even if we have no intention of signing them, a player like Higuain on loan for a season would be hugely beneficial to us.

Thanks Richy P {Ed002's Note - Because very few players are available for loan.}

11 Aug 2011 21:06:08
Ed apart from Arsenal is there any other clubs interested in Cahill? Cheers

Square tomato {Ed002's Note - Possibly Spurs. An outside chance of Chelsea.}

11 Aug 2011 21:04:10
I think enrique will be a good aquisition but just wonderin if his heart will be in it , thommo said nailed on months ago then pardew said he wants cl football , he then ridicules nufc transfer policy and fined, no cl club comes in and next thing you know thommo is right , he will prob tell the world its his dream move but im not so sure

11 Aug 2011 20:57:38
Ed, do you worry about liverpools lack of pace and skill? we have bought downing this window who i can only really think off with genuine pace and suarez the only one capable of beating a man or two and i believe if suarez were to become injured we would struggle to breakdown the lower teams,man city have silva,aquero,united have nani young and arsena; have van persie arshavin etc, would you agree ed and do you think we will possibly buy a creative skillful player in january perhaps mate? {Ed002's Note - I think that Liverpool have good options already available to them.}

well that time of year is almost upon us again eds, i for one am really looking forward to this season. KK and DC have done the best they could without the pull of the champions league and i think we will no doubt be right up there again where we belong. As for next season WHEN we are back in the champions league then we will sign world class players if needed. great site eds and keep up the good workand big thanks to MACCA too.

I must say that I am realy pleased with our dealings in the transfer window, quality players who will give there all for the team. We could not have wished for better owners. I'm pretty new this site but I think the eds do a cracking job, keep up the good work guys

I can't believe people still criticise Macca after all the good info he has provided, jealousy is a terrible thing lads..

Do you agree Eds?

Davey Red {Ed009's Note - In my opinion he is overly revered and overly reviled. People should just take what he has to say and see if it comes to fruition rather than questioning everything.}

WE got to be real stupid to get rid of Aqualini by far the most talented player with a tactical brain in our team get rid of anyone but Aqualani ive watched all the pre season and watched him closely and he plays the ball like no other reminds me abit llike Alonso SO AQUALINI TO STAY

11 Aug 2011 20:34:45
Liverpool have offer Ngog plus 10m n Danny Wilson on loan for the season, for Gary Cahill but the only thing stoping this deal being done is Ngog's wage demands. If they can come to an agreement this deal should be done buy the weekend.

11 Aug 2011 20:33:40
Hi Eds

I remember reading posts suggesting that we would be signing at least 2 wingers in this window. Downing signed, Marveaux didn't. Do you think we'll buy another winger before the window closes?

Coxy82 {Ed009's Note - At this point in time, I can't see it.}

11 Aug 2011 20:18:34
Why aren't the LFC brass trying to push for Dann for the cb signing? From what I've gathered he is local born, fan of our club, and much more versatile than cahill/mertskr. I'm afraid I don't understand this decision. AZkop

guillem balague has just tweeted that liverpool have not made a bid for higuain

11 Aug 2011 20:16:15
If we cannot bid for Dann because of finances, then why are we able to bid for Cahill? It doesnt seem to add up.

If SSN are to believed, then Liverpool cannot buy any more players until they sell some of their weaker players.

11 Aug 2011 20:12:37
Why hasnt Cahill been targeted by Man City? Its a real suprise I had them down as dead certs for them. If we get Cahill I would be really chuffed, considering all the interest surrounding him

£6m for Dann and another 6m for Mertesacker.
It so looks like Arsenal are getting the real bargains

11 Aug 2011 19:59:30
Hi eds, is it true that after signing Enrique Liverpool can't afford to sign anyone else until offloading a few players? {Ed002's Note - Liverpool must unload some fringe players. This is regularly discussed.}

11 Aug 2011 19:48:45
Am I alone in thinking that if Arsenal get Dann we are nailed on for Cahill? Not sure I have a preference as I would be happy with either

Who's the quicker out of the 3 x possible CB signings - Mertesacker, Cahill, and Dann ?
I f****** hope we don't end up with the slowest.
The Real KB {Ed009's Note - Perhaps Cahill. Mertesacker is certainly the slowest.}

11 Aug 2011 19:42:10
Liverpool are going to sign Gary Cahill and will begin negotiating around 25th August.

I didn't expect this to happen but this will definitely happen if we can get rid of Philipp Degen, Nabil El Zhar, Emiliano Insua and Christian Poulsen. If we can get rid of at least 2 of these this will free up Cahill's wages.

I expect David N'Gog to be involved in the deal also.

Something like £15m + N'Gog is what LFC expect but will obviously try to get it cheap as possible.

not a rumour more of an observation here,

all this talk of buyin a centre back, either cahill or dann, why spend all this cash when theres a good centre half already there, with a left foot, am talking about Danny Wilson, scottish international
we have johnson, flanagan, kelly for right back, left back robinson, aurelieo, and now enrique. centre backs, carragher, skrtel, agger, wilson and of course kelly, and the greek, plus wisdom
why spend so much on a cente back? any thoughts ed {Ed009's Note - I rated Wilson at Rangers, but he is certainly not ready yet.}

11 Aug 2011 18:23:25
just a question ed what do you think startin eleven will be saturday nice one {Ed009's Note - I would not second guess Kenny, but my 11 would be: Reina; Kelly, Carra, Agger, Aurelio; Adam, Henderson, Lucas; Downing, Carroll, Kuyt (Suarez if fit.)}

11 Aug 2011 18:44:54
why don't we sign subotic and Jovetic or hazard?

This was the starting 11 for the first game last season, which we were unlucky to draw 1-1 with Arsenal:
Reina
Johnson
Carragher
Agger
Skrtel
Cole
Mascherano
Gerrard
Jovanovic
Kuyt
Ngog

Not a terrible team (Poulsen wasn't playing), but not one to strike fear into quality opposition.

Now replace Ngog with Carroll, Jovanovic with Suarez and Cole with Downing. Add a genuine left back, rather than a CB providing cover, replace the unsettled Mascherano with the fully committed and more versatile Lucas, include Adam and Henderson as cover for Gerrard. Add a bench that is deeper in talent than we have seen for years, and an exciting group of academy players, many with first team experience.
Our squad has been transformed in 2 transfer windows, without accumulating huge debt and while remaining a real football club (as distinct from a billionaires play-thing).
It's time to stop talking about who we didn't sign and start supporting those players who are now wearing a Liverpool shirt. We can be proud of the team that Kenny has built. It is a work in progress. But the key word is progress.

hi eds first time post i would very much like to hear your opinion on henderson do you think he will start on the right or do we have an out and out winger in mind?if so who in your opinion is most likely?keep up the good work guys {Ed001's Note - Kenny used to play with a right sided midfielder and an out and out winger on the left (Wenger used the same system when he first joined Arsenal). I very much expect him to revert to that if possible, with Henderson as a right sided midfielder and Downing as the winger on the left.}

Our starting 11 for the first game of last season was Reina, Johnson, Carra, Skrtel, Agger, Mascherano, Stevie G, Kuyt, Cole, Jovanovic, Ngog.
Potential for Saturday – Reina, Johnson, Carra, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Adam, Downing, Lucas, Carroll, Kuyt/Suarez.
Vast improvement and so encouraging. We're definitely moving in the right direction. Thanks Kenny.

Welcome to the best club in the world Enrique. Now a centre half & a back up striker would be lovely. I know I'm being greedy, but if you don't ask you won't get.

Our main objective this season is a Champions League spot & I think it's well within our grasp & a few good cup runs into the bargain. Let the battle commence.

Hi Eds,

Do you think we will definitely buy a new centre-half this summer? I was just thinking whether Martin Kelly may play there more often as it is his natural position – he is a good defender and has some pace which will help when playing against a quick forward with our high up the pitch pressing game. With either Agger, Carragher or Skirtle beside him and Johnson and Enrique at full-back that looks like a solid back-four.

JG {Ed009's Note - We have made enquiries for the ones who have been discussed in length on the site, so there is clear interest in bringing one in.}

11 Aug 2011 16:49:53
hi eds please post on the rumours page.well done mate mainly all your main predictions became true so thanks about that.You say that are cb choices are between cahill dann and mertasacker but with arsenal mean't to be closer than us to getting dann do you think this will leave the door open for is to perhaps get cahill.cheers {Ed009's Note - I think that we will get one of those three, and Arsenal will get another. One will be left all on his own to cry.}

11 Aug 2011 16:48:33
Eds sorry for asking but im struggling with the decision of leaving suarez in my team as captain for saturday do you think he has a chance of playing or will he be rested
thanks and great site
Joe dolan {Ed009's Note - I honestly don't know. Normally I would say the player would be rested, but it is Luis Suarez. I wouldn't be surprised if his tenacity led to him asking to be played.}

Could anyone tell me if Enrique is in the Spanish international squad? I know he is uncapped, but is he amoung the 25? If not, who are the left backs at the moment. I assume Capdevila is no longer in the squad.

Hello all, I haven't posted in a week or two because I've been up to my balls in work, however I've checked the site every day, and just wanted to say thank you to macca primarily, but the eds too of course I've followed this site for a long time and I've seen macca get slated a ridiculous amount, and unfairly may I add But no disrespect to the eds at all here, but macca said last night with 100% confidence about enrique and the eds weren't as certain (which is understandable of course). When I saw the news this morning about enrique I was absolutely chuffed because macca absolutely silenced his doubters, but then when I come on here and people saying how macca said we wouldn't sign him last week, really irritated me, because instead of saying thank you, some people felt the need to try and slate him. Listen I respect peoples opinion, but I disagree with the way people disrespect macca when he doesn't have to do give us information, he does it out of his own time. So I for one want to say thank you for all your time and effort to macca, and every single ed, because without you this site wouldnt be the same

Anyway just a quick opinion, I for one would prefer Scott dann, but if we decide to sign gary cahill then I'd still be thrilled, because it's yet another signing that bolsters our growing squad

And to finish off this ridiculously long post I just want to say, although I don't personally think enrique is the best player around, I still believe he is a fantastic addition, because he has something that is extremely important, and that premier league experience, and that is truly invaluable to aid our cause of getting back into the champions league next season, and then once that has been achieved, pushing for world class players and getting back to our rightful place, and that's top of the premier league, pushing for / winning the title year in year out Be patient fellow reds, we are most certainly, on the up, and about to shake up this league
Sorry for the long post everyone
Hooch.

Is anyone else happy as myself that we have signed Enrique without selling anyone which proves the point to the T that owners are really backing Kenny and will do in future.
I think rather then saying they are doing a favor to us we should remember that we are a investment for them and they will invest till they can see profits in the venture they are also here for business.
with the kind of situation we were in they knew this from start and they have taken everything into account as lots of money is involved.

I want my Manchester rivals to remember a quote famous one which they will see soon.

Looks like Dann is joining the Arse so I expect us to sign Cahill rather than Mertesacker as Cahill is already of PL standard and also we can offer N'gog as part of the deal. This is why we have been signing players from other PL clubs as there should theoretically be no "settling in" period.

Not too sure what to make of the Benayoun rumous, I'd love to see it happen but I don't think we will sign him.

The only other player I see us getting is Park Chu Young and that will be if we sell first.

I think KD is happy with Carroll and Suarez as our strikers and Kuyt will play there more often as well IMO. If needed, we could move for Park Chu Young in Jan depending on if we have sold first.

I expect Degen, Insua and El Zhar to leave and I think Cole, Meireles and possibly Kyriagkos will go if the right offer comes in. I hope we keep Aqua

Hi Eds, quick question..

After Abdellaoue's (Moa) stunning goal against
Checkia yesterday and after impressing in his first 6 months in the Bundesliga I reckon a few big clubs would consider him. Do you think he would be good enough as a back up striker for LFC? Many thanks again for your commitment and excellent work

I see some "so called lfc fans" posting in support or Roy Keane's assessment of our chances. Saying how far away we are & how our defense is. Well look at this homegrown back line:
Flanagan Coady Kelly Robinson Any of these could back up our starting back line:
Enrique Agger Carra Johnson Skrtel/Aurelio

Hi Eds, Brought my son over to Liverpool Academy from Dublin for the last 3 days. Spoke to Academy coaches regarding the club's baggage of overpaid unused players. He said they are trying to get rid of all the usual suspects but it is difficult the way the contracts are written. He said one 18 year old academy player is on £6k a week and they play behind doors. He also said that Agger was offered to someone in Germany but that he refused because in Germany you don't get paid for being injured after 6 weeks but in the UK it is 6 months Also went to Melwood yesterday before training and Stewart Downing swung in and stopped for autographs etc. My son said he was really nice and took his time with all the kids. Hopefully this is the type of personable players we get in the future, unlike some selfish prima donna's who moved to London turned out to be.

Great site lads, keep up the good work.

Derek - Dublin

at the start of last season I'd just seen a 'safe' manager come in in roy hodgson. we had no money to spend, debts up to our eyeballs, a possible 15 pts deduction, a squad that was coming back in every now and again, some not having played any pre season football, and I thought, we're in trouble. Our football was slow, rigid, no confidence, and it showed on the field that we had no cohesion, we wernt pulling the same way, supporters included, theres only so much you can watch, and take of opposite supporters. when our new owners took over, i was apprehensive, but they look competennt fair play, backing kenny so far. kennys man management seems to be paying off, taking us back to basics, noticing our lack of pace, all he's done is quickened our movement of the ball, and off the ball. we didnt look good in europe, our lack of depth apparent there, which is something that with our new signings, our bench looks a bit better. if we get rid of the 'deadwood', bring through slowly our youngsters we'll be ok. man utd, still the benchmark, will be hard to remove, city will get stronger, but beatable. chelsea, tottenham, and arsenal, unchanged, but makes for settled sides. Ive got a better feeling this season, a stronger team, a solid backroom, good youngsters, and owners who dont interfere. what a difference a year makes

Hi to all the eds and fellow Kopites. Not that I mind you (the eds) are taking all the credit for the predictions of late, But to be fair you guys are usually on the ball and no your stuff. Especially with all the garbage that gets posted by some fans. But I am feeling quite proud of myself about 3 or 4 months ago I posted some info with regards signings. I also said that the info that I had did not include any foreireign signings ie players outside the prem. My predictions were Young 100% Adams 100% Enrique 100% Wickham 60% Mccarthy 60% Jones 100%. I know it isn't a fantastic strike rate, but LFC were interested in all of these players and only managed to pull of the two. I still believe we will make a move for Mccarthy before the window closses

Hi ed, I no u don't really rate Enrique, but for the price we got him for, surely a good deal? {Ed009's Note - I presume this is meant for Ed001, as I believe the player will make a good signing. At 6 million it is largely risk free.}

Question for Eds. How is it decided the in's into our
defense, speaking of Enrique, Dann, Cahil? Does
Kenny have final say on all new players bought? Does
Steve Clark have the final say on the defense or does
Does it go by Camoli's interesting book of statistics as well?

RedAce. {Ed009's Note - Kenny has the final say. He is the manager.}

These Spam fans like Sydney who appear on this site everytime we sign a new player really makes me feel like the other teams fans sound very worried about the squad thats been/being assembled. But what does crack me up is because we paid over the odds for Big Andy, (we all know why but i rate him highly, and he's price tag as been debated enough). And then they say we paid 20mil for Henderson when it was more like 16,another quality player who'll show his value for sure, they've gone a bit quiet on Downing's price because of his obvious quality he's showed so far Villa and now us . Is that they always fail to mention the great deals and bargains we've also done. Luis Suarez 22mil, Adam 8 mil, Enrique 6 mil. You could go back further and look at Reina 6mil and Alonso 11mil and selling Torres for 50mil hope he's ok,re of what he did you cant wish injury on anyone. But for some reason it seems,much to my amusement were seen as a club that gets ripped off in all our deals. Personally i think its that were crudding the teams and supporters right up with K.K's revalution oh and how much was Lucas 3 mil. Hargreaves 18 mil for 51 games in 4 seasons. Carrick same price for no a player who's stats for last season read played 28, no goals,no assists and 2 shots on target,. Now theirs overpayin for rubbishe Sydney lad. Jonson6

I am very happy to hear about Enrique who is, in my opinion, one of the best left backs in the world Do you want to know why??:

"Succesful Dribbling last season - Evra 26 - Enrique 65 - Baines 26 - Clichy 21 - Cole 17 | Tackle success - Evra 76% - Enrique 84% - Baines 74% - Clichy 81% - Cole 61% | Crossing Accuracy - Evra 18% - Enrique 23% - Baines 28% - Clichy 17% - Cole 20%"
"1 on 1, Enrique's very hard to beat. Happened only 9 times last season, compared to A. Cole (38), Clichy (26), Baines (24), Evra (23)."

Just had a nice lunch at neighbourhood and sitting next to me were big Phil Thompson and Sammy having a chat and towards the rear of the bistro was Martin Skrtel having a bite to eat with his missus.

When Skrtel left he made a bit of a fuss of Sammy. Which was a nice touch. However, then spent a couple of minutes earwigging to see if Sammy would comment on him after he left.

That is the third time I've been in there and Sammy has been having lunch.

I am old enough to remember the excellent finish we had to the 1977/78 season , with nine wins and three draws in the last 12 games . A player called Kenny Dalglish scored a hat-trick against Man City on May day . We finished second to Nottm Forest .

The following season we won the League , smashing all the points records going . The only change to the team was that we signed a naturally left-footed full back from Newcastle , Alan Kennedy .

Now , don't get carried away .....................

Oliver Holt from the Daily Mirror said on Twitter that we had the funds to cover the Enrique deal now, but signing either Dann or Cahill would only go ahead if it can be covered by sales of the deadwood. Pretty much what Macca and the Eds said yesterday. So when Holt says "you heard it here first" it might be true, just so long as you hadn't already read it on here first. Bravo Eds and Macca.

I hope Mata does join a premier league team, so that Liverpool fans can assess his performances, to see that there are minor differences between the skill of him and Downing.

If he was to sign for Arsenal, I think he's struggle in the Premier League.

Also when I say 'I hope Mata joins a premier league team', in no way do I think he would be joining Liverpool. Even remotely.

Hi all,

Got some news for you all on ins and outs.

Right well I have been told that Aquilani, Meireles, Cole, Poulsen, Jovanovic, Ngog, Insua, Degen and El Zhar are all wanted off the wage bill. If we succeed in selling most of them, we will move for:

Yossi Benayoun (never wanted to leave, hated Rafa)
Scott Dann (in negotiations with BCFC)
Jose Enrique (fee has been agreed)

---------------------------------------

This is what I said on Thursday... No I didnt sign it off because I couldnt think of a name.

Jovanovic, Ayala, Konchesky, Mavinga have gone. Cole, Insua, Degen and El zhar are certain departures. {Ed009's Note - Just use your first name as a name if needs be?}

Hi Eds just wondering who you believe price aside is the best cb of Dann and Cahill? Also which reserves do you believe will come through this year and who do you think is the most talented and has the brightest future at the club? {Ed009's Note - I would say I prefer Dann as he is far less of a hoofer. The only think to be wary of is his questionable injury record. I would imagine Coady is the closest to making the step up to being a squad member due to his surprisingly impressive physical presence. I also believe that we will see a few appearances for Sterling and Suso - arguably the two most talented youth team members - but they will not be regulars due to their physical immaturity; it can be risky to overplay youngsters before they are really ready.}

11 Aug 2011 12:15:23
Should Liverpool want to sign Scott Dann, they only need to match the amount of money Arsenal offer should Birmingham deem their offer acceptable and Dann will sign for us.
He is a lifelong Liverpool fan, a born Scouser and a former season ticket holder. Scott Dann would give his all for us and will turn his back on any move to Arsenal should Liverpool step up their interest.

IMAGINE the headline 'Gunners Gazumped', King Kenny's Liverpool Revolution continues as Mata signs 3 year deal…

Mata would certainly give us a different weapon in the armoury but he would be fighting for a place in the starting 11 with Downing, Kuyt and Carroll, perhaps he would like the challenge and chance to play with fellow countrymen – Reina and Enrique.

Then again maybe LFC have no further interest in the player, and champions' league football – as the playmaker in a pass and move Arsenal appeals more to him.

11 Aug 2011 11:46:38
If deal is agreed this evening, will Enrique be available Saturday ed?

Corkpoolred {Ed001's Note - he should be available yes, certainly Newcastle are not presenting any obstacles to it (unsurprisingly really!). The only thing that could stop him being available would be paperwork issues ie clearance not coming through from the FA in time.}

I was speaking with my brother who lives in Boston (U.S) about John Henry and F.S.G and he said that though they have brought success and are quite popular,a lot of working class fans of the Red Sox , who have been seeing them play all their lives ,simply cannot afford to attend games at Fenway anymore due to the enormous hike in ticket prices under the ownership of F.S..G. Please dont think that this is an attempt to knock the new owners. I am very aware of the fact that they came in and saved the club i love , and have been brilliant in everything they have done since, not least bringing back the King. I am just wondering what the eds and fellow reds think about the ticket issue and if it concerns them.
Dara D {Ed001's Note - it has been a concern for years, the ticket prices are too high anyway, but I don't think their arrival makes it any more of a concern.}

Since Messrs Henry and Werner graced these shores:

Kenny Dalglish
Steve Clarke
Alexander Donadoni
Luis Suarez
Andy Carroll
Stewart Downing
Jordan Henderson
Charlie Adam
Jose Enrique (possibly)
Scott Dann (possibly)
Moussa Sissoko (possibly)
Park Chu Young (possibly)
(And, if you like, LeBron James and Warrior)

This is an improvement, way over and above what we've done in years.
Suarez is a superster; Carro, Hendo and Sissoko are world class players in the making and I fully expect them to be key players Brazil 2014; Stewart, Charlie and Scott have what it takes to be among the best players in the British game, particularly Scott; Jose and Park Chu are certainly very capable players and have the potential to be very important.

Even more great is the fact that, with about two exceptions, they're all 25 or younger.
Add to this Kelly, Wilson, Shelvey and Flanno who are also under 25 but are already part of the 1st team.

Waiting on the wings and probably a year or two from being regular first teamers are Coady, Suso, Robbo, Sterling and Morgo. Insanely gifted players.
It's ordinarily one or two youth players who graduate from the juniors and go on to be exceptional for the 1st team in years, but I feel we'll buck the trend.

Kelly, Wisdom, Robbo, Coady, Suso, Sterling and Morgo could be star players for LFC. Kelly's already a regular; Robbo semi-regular; Coady and Sterling will likely breakthrough this season with regular cameos and be ready to start next season, I think; Suso and Wisdom will likely have broken thru by 2012-2013.

In summary, Pepe, Glenda, Agger, Enrique, Downing, Lucas, Adam and Suarez are about to enter the peak of their careers, while Kelly, Hendo, and Sissoko are not too far away themselves.
Flanno, Wisdom, Robbo, Coady, Suso, Sterling, Morgo and, possibly, Bueno and Nacho are practically sure to make it big and will be waiting on the wings.

Carra, Stevie and Dirk will give us the experience and leadership we need so that we don't become Arsenal.
I feel that, unlike Man Utd, we'll have literally zero trouble replacing our skipper as we've already brought the replacement (Hendo) and might bring in another equally capable, Moussa Sissoko.

So by the time the skipper calls it a day, we'll already have sorted things out. Same with Carra (Dann), Enrique (Robbo), Agger (Wilson), Downing (Sterling), Suarez and Kuyt ( Morgo/Nacho/Buena).
Kenny as well (Clarke).

So I'm happy. The present as well as the future, brilliant.
Ed, is it possible that Dann, Enrique, Sissoko and Park Chu Young could all come in?

O'Donovan {Ed001's Note - possible? Yes. Likely? No. Though 3 out of 4 is fairly likely.}

Why do people insist that Dalglish wants a defensive midfielder.
Dalglish like Ferguson are old school type managers who believe a midfielder is a midfielder who should be able to defend,attack, pass and control.
A defender is a defender, an Striker is a striker so a midfielder is basically a midfielder.
What do you think Ed? {Ed001's Note - we have checked out a large nmber of defensive midfielders though.}

Can any of the Ed's or anyone please tell me how a confidentiallity agreement works? As this is what is happening with Enrique. Does it mean that it is only announced when it is all completed? Cheers. {Ed002's Note - Nominally that is the case. But they are used traditionally to stop any parties discussing what is happening whilst it is in process. There will not be anything in the case of Enrique.}

To be fair to Enrique's performance against us last season,the whole Newcastle team were a shambles that day. We didn't need to get out of second gear to beat em 3-0. Personally,i think to have at the price quoted at around 6 mil,just going off what i've read,its a real bargain. I think he's a very good player who'd do a better job on the left then playing Glenn Johnson their who i'd use predominantly on the right hand side of midfield/utility .Just that i think its much better playing full backs that are on their natural sides, wingers a different matter,swap and change them re of foot all day,dont have a problem with that. With full backs though when you need for example a clearerence he aint looking to put it on his strong foot and have time to be closed down. Same with when their over lapping,as we've seen with Aurelio, when he over laps and gets played to him he can whip it first time, where as as we've seen with Glenn Johnson,as sterling job when he filled in their he did like to switch it to his right foot. That delay could be the difference between a goal or a centre half just getting back in time to clear. I still think we should keep Aurileo at all costs for this season,his quality is their for all to see,just a shame about him being injury prone,but would be good back up to Enrique then can make way for Robinson to be back up next year,eventually overtaking Enrique as our number 1 left back. Exciting times ahead and weather Dann signs or not,as good a player he is i'm sure sign a centre half who's just as good,if not better. Jonson6

Why are our fans believing that the Enrique deal is done?? We will not and can not Complete any deal with any player unless they pass a medical, The medical will take place this afternoon, so if he passes it then it will be from tomorrow onwards that the paper work will be completed and the player will sign.

Its seems pretty certain Enrique is set to sign soon. With either Gary Cahill or Scott Dann also coming in at CB. I'd prefer Cahill on the basis that he's a proven EPL CB that can Defend and Score (Something like 11 Gls in 111 Gms for BWFC) which we need; being a threat from set pieces with a bit of Quality. Dann would probably be the stronger mentally, being a local lad an all, however there's no denying Cahill's strenghths....

Also Ed(s), what is the likely-hood we'll end up in the Europa League instead of Birmingham? I.e. is there deadline or anything that could keep them in with regards to there financial problems...etc {Ed002's Note - Liverpool are not going to be in the Europa League this season.}

Morning all,
Has anyone seen the article in the Tomkins Times, about the respective values of what he calls the £XI (ie the transfer values of each first team squad).
He's got Chelsea top at £463m, Man City 2nd at £429m, and U*d 3rd at £400m.
He reasons those 3 x teams will fight it out for top three places in the Prem.
Next is Liverpool at £231m, Spurs at £227m and Arsenal at £165m. Those three teams form the next tier and will fight it out for 4th.
Now all this may seem a bit simplistic, but probably true unfortunately.
Footy is getting a bit like, I dunno, Formula 1 or something. Massive investment = success.
Also as well, how do we sustainably bridge a £200M gap in first team value ?
Stadium - some way off.
CL - need to spend to get there and then spend even more to stay there.
Wish I hadn't read that article. Lol.

i would just like to know why many of our targets this summer have taken so long to buy, (Adam, Downing, Enrique) and now its looking like Dann may be off to the Apse after us showing our interest in him early in the transfer window, but yet seemingly doing nothing about it, and its looking the same about Cahill we needed these players almost straight away so they could bed into the team in the pre season friendlies, not a couple of days before the start of the season im just a frustrated red happy with the players weve bought but not with the speed of buying them

With regards the CB recruitment I personally would like to see Dann as a backup for Carra and Agger but i have a feeling Arsenal and CL football may be too much for him to turn down.

As for Cahill I personally think he is ok but I wouldn't buy him just for the sake for needing a CB, if we cant get Dann then I would prefer to see Kelly, Agger, Carra, Skrtel and even Kyriakos manage until January or even next summer.

It my opinion but I don't think Cahill will really add anything that we don't already have.

I dont pay much attention to international friendlies, but Raul, despite being out of the Valencia match squad through injury, played 45mins for Portugal. is he likely to feature for our first team, or was the Valencia game a question of KK wanting to field a team assuming the sale of RM, whereas being called up by your country is obligatory?

Am I stupid or will something drastic happen... no matter how I count we have to register 26 players out of possible 25 with Enrique.... then I wonder how are we going to fit Dann or Cahill?

If I continue this thought it means that 2 players are known to be leaving or will be released from their contract before we have to register our squad or am I missing something?

last question regarding this is when do we have to register our squad? {Ed002's Note - September 1.}

But in U20's w have truly excelled We qualified from group stages without losing, but did fail to muster a goal of our own in any of our matches (including North Korea). We again failed to score in the quarters last night and Nigeria did, so we are on our way home.

Four games and no goals is another pretty poor showing....

Transfers since FSG have come in:

Suarez - 23m
Carroll - 35m
Henderson - 13m
Adam - 6m
Downing - 17m
Doni - Free
Enrique - 6m
Benayoun - 3m
Dann/Cahill - 8/14m

Outgoings since FSG have come in:

Torres - 50m
Babel - 8m
Konchesky - 1.5m
Ayala - 1m
Jovanovic - Free
Cole - 2m
Degen - Free
El Zhar - Free

Net Spend since FSG have come in:

31m - averaging under 3m per buy...

So a lot of it has been self sufficient but they have invested 31m into transfers... This may look bad but H&G wouldnt have given us the money to spend from Torres' sale.

Not Liverpool rumours, but it looks like Samuel Eto'o is moving to Anzhi Makhachkala. As sad as it is, I fear he will receive a lot of abuse due to the colour of his skin. However I also think the Russian government may have wanted the Russian league to have a black superstar, as the first step towards eradicating racism before the 2018 world cup. Eds, do you think the Russian government could be paying part of his fee and/or wages? {Ed002's Note - No, they are not. Anzhi is a club with a very wealthy owner and there is no funding from or control by the Russian Government.}

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the EDS that have worked hard to keep us fans entertained with this site. I would not have survived this summer without your site and your hard work as well as the rumours from all the fans (and so called fans ;-P) out there.

All I am looking forward to is watching the boys walk out onto that pitch with the Kop signing our anthem. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited for this season and what will be will be. Looking forward to the ref blowing that whistle...

Enrique, cahill and mata will come in before window closes.
Cahill deal is stalling while negotiations continue about the part exchange and loan players moving to bolton. Ngog + Shelvey loan was offered but bolton want Ngog + flanaghan/kelly loan.
Aquilani will move at the right price but its not urgent as its easy to get teams willing to rent him from us.
Meirelles was to be a part exchange for mata but with gerrard injured again that deal may be forced to hold off till Jan(if mata is willing to wait and not rush off to arsenal)
No striker will be bought as kuyt is technically backup for carroll and mata will be for downing/suarez. Younsters will be allowed opportunity to make 1st team appearances.

I think its very funny how i'm reading on the main banter forum united and chelsea fans being like " yeah liverpool are going to finish 12th this season if there lucky " " anfield has no atmosphere at all "..do these absoulute t**ts actually watch football? its clear to me they can see liverpool are on the up and in denial..i am not saying that we're going to finish top but at the end of the day were going to be up there. we have strengthed our squad and i think we will get enrique in and a good CB and i really think we'll get an attacking midfielder in and go for it. why wouldnt we?

There are alot of positives at the club at the moment let alone we have the best in form player at the moment in young luis suarez

Liverpools problem over the past couple of seasons is that we are beating the likes of united but then going to west brom and losing, we need consistancy and i think if we start beating the mid table teams this season and show conistancy throught the season we will be well up there. everyone needs to remember united won last years league on home form mainly they lost 1 game at home and there away form is shocking so we need to make anfield the fortress it once was and take number 20 before they do.

Sorry for the optimism :P

Some quotes from the Rat Boy Neville:

"Going back all those years, it was the greatest moment for United to win that first title after so long. I think Liverpool are getting to that point where they need that success now. The club demands it.

"You can see exactly what Kenny Dalglish is trying to do there. He has brought an identity back to the club.

"He has brought back a core of solidity back to the club, which he felt he probably needed.

"With that, at Anfield, they will be extremely difficult to beat. Whether they can go on and win the title this season, I'm not sure.

"But one thing is for certain, they certainly have the experience in the manager. He has done it before at Liverpool and at Blackburn.

"He can cope with the demands of the championship, and for the first time in quite a few seasons they have gone into the campaign with a level of expectation that they do have a chance."

11 Aug 2011 02:20:11
Let me put this idea out there for you fans to discuss or tear to shreds as you see fit. With it looking like Enrique is a certainty, we have Aurelio and Robinson and Glen as capable backups.

This, in my opinion, pushes Glen to starting RB with Kelly and Flanno as capable backups. This also allows Kelly to become a capable backup central defender.

So, by signing Enrique, we may have resloved both defensive issues. I believe Dann or Cahill would not walk in to the starting CD positions over Carra and Agger.

Food for thought, and whatever happen, I'm totally pumped for the new season

Hey Ed I'm from Ireland and I don't really know what's happening over there in England and I was just wondering if you think the matches on Saturday will be called off.I was also wondering what is happening with Mata from Valencia do you know if he is leaving their was lots of reports saying he was signing for arsenal but it has not happened was just wondering if you think he will leave Valencia. Cheers. Zincho {Ed001's Note - it seems the brats are not allowed out to play when it rains so things have quietened down. Hopefully it stays that way, but if it doesn't and trouble breaks out Thursday night there will be problems getting policing for the games. Valencia have always been prepared to sell Mata and his father has indicated a willingness for him to move. I have no idea why he is still there, I can only speculate and my speculation would be that Valencia are asking too much so teams are waiting until the end of the window. Everyone knows they need to sell someone and that could cause the price to drop.}

Not really a rumour as such, but thought I'd mention it anyway...
Speaking to an ex-Liverpool player the other day, (not going to divulge his name but he played alongside and under King Kenny) and he gave very honest, succinct opinions on our recent signings:

Suarez: Pure class, will be one of the best players in the Prem this season

Henderson: Not up to standard, Sunderland seen us coming (hope he's wrong)

Carroll: Likeable lad who everyone wants to do well, but there's a concern that he's not bright enough to stay out of trouble. If he can then we've got ourselves a player

Downing: Very impressive in training so far, everyone's excited at what he has to offer

Interestingly, he also said that Pacheco has an attitude problem and will be offloaded if the right offer comes in

If Aqualini and Meireles aren't sold on, they will obviously remain talented parts of the first XI team.
What do we do with them ?
Pick and choose games where one / both start ?
Have them on the bench and bring them on when we're cruising or chasing a game ?
Or trust in their respective talents and try to compensate elsewhere in the team ?
Which then brings the question, are they both likely to start a game together and where ?
Eds ?
Its an interesting one.

Contrary to what was stated by one of the eds earlier this week Liverpool will be entering the Carling Cup in the 2nd Round. The draw will take place on Sky Sports tomorrow after the completion of the live match between Sheffield Wednesday and Blackpool. The only clubs exempted are the eight clubs taking part in European competitions - they will join in the 3rd Round. benayoun left because Rafa didn't want him. He never said bad stuff abut Liverpool. He is not a money Chaser he could play in Russian teams that offerd him alot of money but he said money did not matter to him wat matter to him is to have a fabulous career.
So quite saying bad things about him
Yet it still seems strange to me that he will return. I thought it well by more reasonable that he will go to Tottenham as sweetener to the Modrić deal. But if Macca says it I believe it.
p.s. :
yaya toure walked off injured in the game between Israel and the Ivory Coast (3-4 to the Coast)
