Ed, this might be a stupid question but what's the difference between a head coach and a manager? Like Steve Clarke is head coach of west brom and Brendan Rogers is manager. {Ed002's Note - Fundamentally nothing.}

The manager manages the team where as someone like steve clarke will be the main one who takes the training sessions.

Alex Ferguson - Manager
Arsene Wenger - Manager

Steve Clarke - Head coach
Roberto di Matteo - Head coach

Will some people lay off Sterling over calling him greedy for supposedly asking for 50k a week.
Where did folks hear this? Don't tell more it was on social media outlet so it must be true I don't think.
Some should climb right off their high horse and just let the contract talks happen in their own time, and stop going on about how he should be happy with 20 bob a week cause most 17 year old earns 10.
I'm sure the club and himself will find his worth and he''ll be a Liverpool player for years to come. Don't belive all the kak bein wrote in the mainstream media as well, they just love to scaremonger and try and unsettle people.
Que sera sera.
JohnBoy

Latest from bbc gossip column is that man c will bid in jan window for him, so need to get him signed on long term contract asap

Stop going on about it. Sterling has been offered 25k and his agent wants 30k. he has stated that he is signing on his 18th birthday so what is the problem? he is happy getting game time and is still learning the game. as the recently departed Clive Dunn used to say "DON,T PANIC"
robbie

If he goes to Man City it'll be the end of his career, ask Shaun Wright-Phillips

10 Nov 2012 22:58:09
Can people stop throwing random names at the Ed's, if we're interested in someone they'll tell us.

Random names? Are we interested in Deidrick von Schnitzelberg?

Rafa's Purple Goatie

^ Seen him play once! he was alright him! But i don't think his name fit's! Across the back of a LFC top!

Big name player that everyone is clamouring for though

It may be me, but I think it's a little sad that BR said In a pre match that we can not compete with the BIG teams with transfers.

I was labouring under the misapprehension for the last 40 years that we where a big team. Or are we anymore? or are the the Chelsea fans( that I dwell unhappily amongst) are right and we live in the past and we will never get back to a regular top four team. I still think BR does not really get it.

We cant compete, why lie about it!

He didn't say we aren't a big team

Financially he ment not in stature

10 Nov 2012 22:26:54
Ok first things first. We have enough youth we have enough squad players we need experience first team players. Brendan is nite a fool he knows those and will sort it out if given the support from fsg .
Now reading all the c++p on here. The way i see is simple every player that gas been linked with lfc ask yourself one are they better than what's there. If the answer is yes then i am happy to see them arrive. Torres ? Is he better u answer id say yes.

Ps chelsea 1 Liverpool 3

And other than suarez where are these magical goals going to come from, going on past performances this season

10 Nov 2012 21:41:54
Rumours are all true.

Liverpool is going for every striker on the face of the planet and I heard we're going for a couple from Mars who are tired of the lack of atmosphere at their current club.

Huntelaar, Hooper, Walcott and Sturidge at the moment Huntelaar looks unlikely and Walcott my still sign a deal with Arsenal.

My guess is Brendan will try for Sturidge and if Chelsea play hardball he'll go for Hooper, thoughts?

Stanz

I heard that UNCLE ZAINY BEAR bloke is quite a decent striker.
Brendan, if ur reading this, he would be a steal at 10 million quid.

Then it shouldn't be a problem for buck Rodgers

10 Nov 2012 20:59:12
FSG are willing to give BR 50 mill to spend in Jan. Targets are Huntelaar, Walcott, Hyeung min, Eriksen and 1 CB.

I heard its closer to 10 million.
anyway, i woldnt get walcott. id go for someone with a better goal scoring record. the only thing good about walcott is his speed.

If walcott was signed he would be the most exciting signing since suarez

Have you looked at Walcotts goals record the past few seasons?

I would love walcott someone to run behind suarez so that suarez can just roll the ball in to him,
why do you think that after shelvey came on against newcastle that things went smoother because he too makes these runs only less effective than walcott

to any scousers that dont like OOTs going to games - i live in the midlands but have a family background of scousers (aunties , cousins , uncle) and mom being a liverpool fan ; would you have any dis-approval of me in the kop on saturday afternoons because i assure you i love that club to pieces
any replies would be welcome :)

10 Nov 2012 22:35:57
Why are you asking permission and justifying your reasons for attending a match? Liverpool has a worldwide fan base, people who can't accept that need to get over it. Enjoy the match mate :-)

No problem at all .but we play away every second week . And most games are on Sunday because of tv or europa leag

We are all Red - same family, same creed. Supported LFC since I was big enough to shout 'Shankly' and have always been very proud to meet Reds from all over the globe. Scarves I held aloft proclaimed 'Supporters all over the world'. Dont know of any Reds who are 'anti-outsiders' - not sure where all this rubbish comes from. Liverpool people are renowned for the warm welcome. Im now exciled and love returning 'home' - restores my soul and the greetings never disappoint.

Torres will be back in January 100% nailed on . If any eds say otherwise then they aint that much in the know as they like to think .

Oh dear someones going to look very thick come january , remember the name ? you bet.............andy.

The Torres that played for us no longer exists .............

You should change your name from tellitasitis to talkingbollox

Only if we play Chelsea

Paul the red

Tellitasitis is a condition where you feel the need to make up stories of former players returning to the club you support.

Lol more like his name is tellitlikemyarse by the way Torres will score and own goal today remember the name eatmywords

Hi eds . Just wondering what happened to bijev ( spelling ) think he is American and we signed him and loaned him out straight away last season . Am sure I saw him in some games on LFC tv at the start of the season . Only asking because he knows where the net is . A reply would be appreciated . Cheers
YNWA

Jamesy {Ed002's Note - He is on loan in Norway - I don't recall where. The issue will be a work permit.}

Villyan Bijev is at IK Start where he has made one appearance from the bench. He was on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf last season where he also made on substitute appearance.

Got the team for tomorrow earlier, its on Liverpool teams now! Skrtel is out with a virus

Fair play waro, you had the last one right, i can only hope your wrong though mate. Losing Skrtel will be a big loss.

Thanks waro.
Interesting line up.

Looks like three centre backs again of its right but I was sceptical midweek and you had it bob on.
Don't know what Coates had to do to play, if Carra and Wisdom are the ones to line up with Agger.

Waro is just copying the teams off of facebook and claiming the credit for the.

So what do you expect him to do? psychically deduce it?

All this talk of Sterling and 50K a week is nonsense the lad is a really good prospect and currently doing really well in the 1st team but giving him too much money too early is not the right way to keep him motivated. It's all too easy in todays World to get distracted and take your eye off the ball and suffer loss of form and then struggle to regain that form. We don't want to end up with an over paid youngster on the books struggling to live up to expectations? I'm sure Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool will pay him just the right amount for his age and talent so as too keep his feet on the ground as much as possible.
I am sure that Raheem is going to be a massive star for Liverpool but what if I'm wrong and he does suffer a loss of form as bad as Enrique has? As I say sure it wont happen? I personally would offer him 10k a week rising to 20k a week after 30 appearances and then 35k after 50 appearances rising to 50k at 70 appearances at which time all being well he would still be under 20yrs of age.

UNCLE ZAINY BEAR agrees with your post.
3 points would give us the boost needed to start moving up the table.

10 Nov 2012 22:13:18
Shain shouldn't start he lacks pace or power instead Shelvey should start

Shelvey has been playing poorly recently.
sahin is the better option, going on recent form.

expected team if skrtel doesn't get over virus

Agreed Shelvey was fairly poor last weekend and had plenty of chances to put us ahead.

Quick question eds, was there as much negativity last season when dalglish was in charge or is it just a Rodgers thing?

JJ {Ed002's Note - Try the archive after any loss.}

We have soo fans on here who have no clue about the game

Its not negativity but reality the league table never lies. we cant even take a corner properly. results not possession.

Quick question eds, was there as much negativity last season when dalglish was in charge or is it just a Rodgers thing?
=============================================

JJ, Nope its not a Rodgers thing, It was exactly the same under Kenny, you had the fools that never gave credit to anything, and you had the persons who believed we can win everything.
Roy

Not quite the same under woy though

Some people are deluded on here agreeing with paying sterling £50,000 per week! Hang ur heads in shame! You are crazy if you think a 17 year old should be on that sort of money in his 1st season in the 1st team...... It's a good job none of you run the club or we'd be bankrupt by now.....FACT! It's a good job he's come out n said he will be signing a contract on his 18th birthday.....I think £10,000 tops n that's pushing it

10 Nov 2012 20:50:01
There's no point in even discussing it, it's not true, Sterling himself said its not true, it's the rags stirring rubbish for us, just leave it.

Raheem Sterling is certainly part of our strongest starting elevenand deserves a mega pay rise after his progress over the last few years .

He is already one of our best first team players . Therefore £35,000 a week does not seem out of the question over the next 4/5 years .

Fabio Borini is on £40,000 a week .

Jargon .

10 grand a week is one hell of a wage.
in my opinion, footballers are paid way too much.
i would hope that the fa would, in the near future, cap players wages to 10 grand a week, or 15k.
that would stop a lot of the greedy players who move for the money.
players prices and wages has become riddiculous.

How would you know how much a 17 year old should be on?

Hounsred

Borini is on 40 grand a week? If that is the case who is dealing with the wage's? As they clearly don't possess any buisness management skill's! That's shocked me!

This is a report I read regarding his previous salary , assuming his LFC salary is atleast equal .

'Roma disclosed in their financial reporting the details of the gross payments that were to be paid to Borini relating to the initial option. They were as follows

2011/2012 season - 1m
2012/2013 season - 2.3m
2013/2014 season - 2.7m
2014/2015 season - 3.1m
2015/2016 season - 3.4m

This is a total of 12.5m over the five years of the contract which works out as an average weekly wage of 48,077. This was a gross figure so any tax/pension contributions would have to be taken off this. At current exchange rates 48,077 works out at £37,932. As such I would imagine this is the effective floor in terms of what kind of salary.'

Jargon .

Hi Eds, just wondering whether you'd be willing to list the top 5 most probable players we may go for in January? cheers {Ed002's Note - We cannot do that, sorry.}

Huntellar
Walcott
Eriksen
Hooper
That's all I can think of.

10 Nov 2012 19:47:39
Can everyone please stop worrying about Sterling. Did no one see on his twitter that he said he would never ask for that amount of money and that the story Is all rubbish? The tweet got removed but I'm sure you can find a picture of it somewhere.
Cheers
NotInTheKnow

Reheem maybe not bothered with that amount of money , but the clan close to him, agents/lawyers will be seeing $$ signs.
The club need to tie Sterling for few years and have to pay whatever it takes.
Roy

10 Nov 2012 17:03:04
Hi Eds. Just wondered if there is anyone else you think may break into the first team this season. {Ed002's Note - You may see a cameo or two later in the season. Depending on the FA Cup draw, perhaps something then.}

10 Nov 2012 17:41:28
downing cost us 20mil + 3mil a year.
and we are worried about sterling wanting 50k a week.
pay him we have a real star on our hands for many years.

Thats not Rogers way, he wont be held to randsom by players, if he thinks they are asking for too much then he will walk away from a deal, remember Sigurdsson?

And cause friction in the dressing room, no way he should get 50K if true, didn't Suarez start here on 35K?

Keith

Isn't the whole point of us trying young, unproven players in the first team because they are meant to be a cheaper alternative than buying expensive, proven players (i.e. Downing?).
If so, whats the point in then paying those young players huge wages after 10 good performances and 1 goal?
We then still end up with a huge wage bill (something we are trying to reduce now) and no guarantee that the player will fulfill his potential or ask for even more money next season.

Jay

Spot on Jay.

Hi eds, quick question.. A friend told me that LFC had people watching dinamo Zagrebs home match vs istra and at their home game vs PSG... do u know if this is true, and what player they could be watching? ive seen this team play some great matches this year, but croatian league isnt very good imo. Ofc Kovacic is a huge talent, same is their young right back( dont remember name sry) but surerly they wouldnt make an impact in the BPL?
hope i get a reply, have a great weekend and good luck tomorrow all reds...

Croatian_Red {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Liverpool having anyone at the games. Liverpool were interested in Badelj previously but he moved to Hamburg in the summer. I cannot think who it could be - unless there is perhaps interest Luis Ibanez.}

Maybe some vrsajlko? He's a very good young right back, whis is quite versatile to.

Ghandi Floss

Luis Ibanez is a funny attacking left back, and would prob be quickest player in our squad, but he has no muscles at all, and i feel he would be a bit weak for the BPL..

Not a bad shout ed on Luis Ibanez he's highly rated out there and rumours persist about us looking for a left !

Thx for the quick reply ed...

Hi Ed's Rodgers has just said liverpool will spend big this January! Should we expect some big name players? {Ed002's Note - I rather doubt he said "big".}

Think things have changed a lot now

He said he needs 3 players. I doubt he will blow silly money on it.

Len

Wot ever money we have spent under new ownership, benitez didnt spent in his entire liverpool career, and won cl, fa, csh, almost got us the premier if the owner would backed him in that same dec. - jan, transfer, (lavezzi, johnson, arshavin, villa, silva, falcao) maybe 2 of them on that winter definetly definetly, we wouldve won the premier from thouse signing.

And thats Benitez net spend 78m in six years people say he wrecked our club !!. Benitez is one of the best manager to manage Liverpool in modern footy Mourinho will never forget him.

How much did torres cost? dont see him on the list...

I really dont gat this Post?? Rafa was there 3 times as long and spent less than double, The Champions league win was estimated to have brought in£40m then we had the other final and the other good years, infact the Euro runs probably covered every transfer he made.
Would the origional poster like to explain his point?

I can't see Morgan cutting it, but Coady and Teixeira are awesome. I think it's only a matter of time before Teixeira gets called up. We've got an abundance of midfielders but he's got a real flare.

Morgam - not sure yet. the other 2 have a role to play. I like coady, he is very aware positionally and keeps his game simple.

We live in an era now where money talks, it's no good the club arguing over 20-50 grand a week wages for Sterling we have no choice pay the lad unfortunately loyalty counts for nothing these days.

If we don't he will end up at City or Utd or even Chelsea for a low transfer now but his value will quadruple in years to come. It's best paying him 50grand now getting him to sign a new contract then selling him in two years time for 50 million just as Ibe starts to take over....

Curled1

I feel maybe 50 grand is abit over the top for 17-18 year old lad, but he is deffo worth more than the 20 grand offered, i say 30-35 a week... but then we ofc talking 5 year contract

sterling plays like a men so we should pay him.
he is playing in the first team and playing well, what has age got to do with salary?
left wing suarez 120000 a week
right wing sterling 20000 a week
does that make sence?
finally we have some youngters coming trough pay them as if we bought them

Good call then in a couple of years when they want an extension to the contract you are giving them we will be paying Samuel etos wages . Think about it eh

Jamesy

Sorry but sterlings 17. He probably already earns more in a week than what most other 17 year olds earn in a year.
Let's try and keep him grounded as long as possible.
If someone gave me that kind of money at that age I would be long dead of some kind of drug induced sex heart attack haha

MIKEY

U cant compare suarez and sterling at this moment in time sterling has the potential to be as good as suarez hes not yet there.

Sterling is on 2k a week contract, so he isnt paid that good

10 Nov 2012 18:13:55
When did 2k a week become poor pay? The average wage in the country is about 23-25k a year. So even on 2k a week he is on about four times the average wage in this country.

Thomas

Not really the point Thomas. Anyway did he not tweet this morning rubbishing the £50 grand talk. Apparently his tweet was up for a few minutes before being taken off.

Eds i was just wondering if I'm right in thinking that with the new academy reforms if we were to buy an academy player from a lower standard academy he would only cost £150k? With no tribunarls or anything else? cheers

Congratz to Suso on his U21 call up for Spain, fully deserved. He is a natural No.10 and deserves to play there. Signed a long-term contract this season and seems like a humble guy.

He's saying the right things too! He said he'd go without a goal in his career for Liverpool to succeed. That's loyalty :-)

10 Nov 2012 13:14:46
Are we really all from the same club here?....I dont think so, constant constant whining and moaning...and why?....Because after ten games were not in the top four?...with players who we all called for to have a run in the side?...
We all knew we had to trim the wage bill, we all knew we'd overspent on Henderson and Downing,
We all knew it was going to take time to get a new system in place and groom the players into playing a particular way,
We all knew and all said we should give Rodgers time to get the trust of the players before we started complaining.....
So..............What is the problem??
Are people watching something else to me because from where im sitting were pretty much playing 80% of teams off the park with a load of youngsters in and no real striker as such.......Apart from the Arsenal game i havnt really seen a poor performance and id say through referees weve been robbed of roughly 5-6 points too, whoch would have seen us in the top four without even scratching the surface of how good we could be..........
What do you want?...Mourhino to come and bankrupt us by buying the same old names that need 200 grand a week? or maybe Redknapp to do the same?......Cant everyone see that Rodgers has been stiffed from pillar to post since coming here with regards to transfer funds and the handling of certain players?
Hes got a vision, a vision for this club to not only win things but to do it in style, it takes time and it wont come overnight, for the record i think the transfer window will be a big one this time around and will show us if the owners mean real business but we cant lump that urden on Rodgers...imagine trying to do a job at home with half a toolbag of equipment...it cant be done...give the man a break, he needs us as much as we need a winning LFC.....
YNWA JFT96 The Guv.

In amongst all that you kind of have a point , also nSpurs have or had a 70k week limit when redknapp was there

10 Nov 2012 14:21:26
Mate football matches are not won by EXCUSES neither clubs are built on EXCUSES. Winning two games from ten are worst for any manager or club forget Liverpool or Rodgers. Things need to change quickly on pitch before we find ourselves in big trouble. It can go another ten games and again we could just win two games and find ourselves winning 4 from 20 games

Every time a manager moves on we are reminded that 'It's a results business' - whether it's fair or not, we need some good results before long or BR's going to start feeling the pressure.

No name stop scare mongering we all know we could and should have won more games than two but for crap referee decision, silly mistakes and goals ruled offside when they werent... we will be fine the team is too good to go down and find a goal scorer in jan and we have cracked it. try believing a little more eh?

10 Nov 2012 11:30:42
So many ludicrous posts about buying or linking this player and that player. Are we likely to lose one our own Ed?

The real issue is whether we hold onto the talent we have got. Now that there is unlikely to be any European success at lfc until at lest 2016.

Sterling is doing just as I suggested his agent would, and why would wouldn't he. BRs amateurish efforts in man management similar to the transfer window debacle have come back to haunt us.

Our previous management would never have allowed Sterling to get so far into the first team without securing his signature early on. It should have been done in the summer. But BR was too busy chasing Borini and Allen. Now it will take £50k a week to hold Sterling. Or watch him go to Arsenal or worse Utd.

Another fine mess you've got yourself into Brendan. £50k/w for 17 year old. Lfc a laughing stock again for falling into the trap. No matter how good Sterling is we could buy the finished article for those wages. Jmac

{Ed002's Note - As I have explained repeatedly you need to understand that Sterling is not able to sign a long-term contract before he turns 18 as he i still a child. I also think that perhaps you should take the reports about his demands very lightly indeed.}

All the more reason why he should have been signed properly in summer. Instead of over a barrel.

I don't understand your laissez faire view Ed. I do understand talent negotiations, and no agent will let a few months stand in the way of him making his client a fortune.

The fact remains it is negligent to have let it get to this stage having allowed Sterling to parade his wares so visibly. Nothing short of negligence.

Even Ferguson got caught out with Pogba and Juventus, he could afford to. Jmac

{Ed002's Note - Why are you struggling to grasp the fact that he could not sign a long-term deal in the summer?}

Another absolute fool who chooses to complain first, get the facts later.

Ash

The cost. That is the point.

Sets a precedence.

And just looks like poor negotiation by the manager

^^ what you on about son,

HE'S WAS UNDER 18 THUS CANNOT SIGN A CONTRACT UNTIL HIS 18th BIRTHDAY.

What art of that don't you understand?

Have to say the OP has a point and yes I understand he cant sign a contact till hes 18
NAVANRED

Pogba. That's all you need to know. Ed is right but the ignoramus above don't live in or understand the commercial reality. You are the fools.

No agent will miss a chance in this world.

No name, the manager doesnt negotiate contracts. just an excuse to get at br that mate!

ian the red

Managerial deficiencies are there to be criticised.
Coaching, that's different. He gets 9 out of ten. Management of team prioritisation, 2.
He should have been identifying who was to be retained and get it negotiated preseason. Instead of starring on reality tv and chasing midfielders to sign. Jmac

The OP's point is fair enough IF there is someone else you could play in Sterling's position....but really, who? You could play Downing there I suppose then be even lower in the league? It is a risk putting Sterling in but surely the manager is short of options

Pogba was a slightly different situation. I'm pretty sure SAF knew he was being lined up for a move away since summer of 2011, which is why he got nowhere near as much playing time as his talent deserved at United

Gav

Jmac

"Instead of starring on reality tv"

I hadn't realised that was BR's decision! Or are you just looking for reason's to moan? ; )

Gav

Jmac has got himself into another tiz over Sterling and is talking out of Bos hole because of it.
Anything to do with the current management and he's all over it like a rash.
What he can't accept is that after spending over 100 mil is that Kenny really did waste that money on terrible signings. No matter what you say the players that signed on his watch bar Suarez would've been a disaster at half the price never mind what we paid for em.
Winning the FA cup would've only been papering over the cracks.
We needed someone with fresh ideas like Rodgers. Thankfully for all the moaning and nitpicking Kenny loyalists do we have that man.
JohnBoy

Can someone remind me when Sterling is 18?

And to the poster above. Check the facts, the league table, out of one cup already and worse goals conceded than last season, worse win rate for a generation.

And no chance of CL success until at least 2016.

Yeah I can see your point. The point is no one should be surprised as BR had no previous trophy success or any league win. So should really stop pointing out the facts. They are too obvious..

{Ed002's Note - December.}

10 Nov 2012 11:24:49
One thing that really bugged me about the Being Liverpool documentary (among others including failue to mention much about the CL success under Rafa and cup success of Houllier) was the silly comments like Man City 'Perrenial Powerhouse'. I realise the doc was generally for the U.S market but it should have said Man City a perrenial relegation fighter that hadn't won much in forty odd years, which had been taken over by Arab billionnaires who had ploughed millions of pounds on mercenary players and who had won the Premier League last season. But have a look at the Premier League Years to see what City were like prior to say 2006.

Well said pal. I will take pleasure watching Man City get knocked out of the Champions league every time - English team or not.

Don't be so bitter. The pair of you.

Disagree it's being Liverpool not been Liverpool so why would they say City were rubbish and Rafa won the CL. Ps big fan of BR and the documentary.

My point really was that our position in the top 3 has been usurped by
1. Hicks and Gillett
2. one Russian billionnaire bankrolling Chelsea
3. basically a Gulf State bankrolling man City making competition very hard for Liverpool.
The term 'Perennial powerhouse' is a bit of a lie, no matter what happens over the next 20 years. I think the documentary could have atleast mentioned some of our success inthe 21st Century rather than talking as if we had had 22 years of disaster. Just mainly to educate a new audience in the U.S.
And finally perhaps a little less from Dave Kirby .

10 Nov 2012 13:48:07
I don't understand what is 'bitter' about not wanting our rivals to do well in Europe...doing well in Europe has an impact on the EPL where we are competing against them in terms of money for transfers to improve the team and make them harder to beat etc. If a team like West Brom had a great season an did well in the EPL and got into the CL next season id be supporting them, but not the likes of Chelsea, City and Arsenal, especially not united. Competing with teams is about more than just the current season it's about long term rivalry. We don't want united to catch up with our impressive 5 CL wins, regardless of whether they are an English side, which is why we look forward to them being knocked out. That's sensible, not bitter! Supporting an English team is like supporting England in the internationals, which very few of us care about anyway.

You don't understand what's bitter about the original post? Let me explain....

To many posters on here are fans who are unhappy with there own clubs standing and performances so have to try and point out other teams failings and shortcomings as why they aren't worthy of being in the competition.

At the end of the day City may have paid out alot but they won the league last year and got in fair and square, so just because they were relegated a few seasons ago is neither here nor there. They are champions of England and (just about left) in the CL.

It has nothing to do with me wanting an English team to win it, because quiet frankly I couldn't care less.

10 Nov 2012 16:30:58
I don't think it is bitter, it is evident that money is ruining the game, and when teams suddenly start being successful after they have someone to plough millions into the club so they can buy their way to success, it's a real kick in the ass to teams who are great but can't compete. FairPlay rules coming in will help this but only if it is monitored closely and stuck to. BR was never going to slag city off on camera because that would be incredibly unprofessional, but the way he described them was inaccurate. I don't really have a problem with City, but I don't feel it's justified to describe them in that way when money has bought their success. There should be some sort of cap introduced to prevent city and Chelsea spending so much every summer. It would encourage teams to bring through youth players, and the cleverest managers who use the best tactics and pin point players who will integrate better into the team would be the most successful. Will never happen, and is a utopian way of looking at football, but I for one hate the way money has such an impact in who is successful in football. The teams who were not successful before being bought by billionaire owners are not really in the same league as teams who work damn hard for theirs. And before you say it, no I don't want LFC to be bought by a rich Russian and be full of mercenaries. I'm quite happy with us the way we are, I just wish the teams leading the game were reaching their success through means other than money.

Some talk coming out of a certain Liverpool watering hole is that Rafa is building a closer relationship with the club again. Maybe a move upstairs or something - or maybe a possible future return to make our club great again. Let us pray.....

You need to seek help....seems like your drinking is getting out of hand :):)

Just relaying the gossip of the night mate, I never said it was accurate!
I would welcome him back with open arms at the moment. I don't remember ever wanting a season to end as early as this before.
What makes it more frustrating is that the team excites me - the youngsters are the best we have had for years, but we cannot win for love nor money.

AAAARGGGHHH!!

I'm praying this is false.

Rafa wrecked the club

majestic69

Im not saying this post is correct but would it be such a bad thing to Rafa in some sort of role "upstairs".
I personally think it could be a decent idea. The man has serious connections in Spain (arguably one of the stronger leagues around the world) He bought a few zingers but has also unearthed some world class players and transformed our youth academy, not to mention his love and links with the club and city.
Before any one jumps on the "living in the past bandwagon" im not, i just think he could be a real asset to the club in some sort of ambassador role.

Kopite81

His ego is too big to have any sort of role at Liverpool these days. He would undermine Rodgers and whoever else he decides to clash horns with.
He may have revolutionised the academy but he near bankrupted us at the same time.

MIKEY

Would love this to be true - should never have been sacked in the first place!!

How on earths name did rafa near bankrupt us. I thought it was how hicks and gillett kept using the club as leverage and also whatever other dirty dealings they where up to along with poor marketing, greed, and lies lies lies spade in the ground my arse. At least dick turpin wore a mask.

gee man

I'd hate to have Rafa's head over BR's. If Rafa was in an upstairs role and the results didn't change Rafa's name would be chanted at the stadium and even more pressure on BR will come about. Just leave Rafa where he is until the results get better.

BthekingB

All these posters disrespecting Rafa should take a good look at where we are now and where we were under Rafa. We were competing and winning at the top table - The Champions League. Two finals, one won, numerous semi finals, including an unlucky defeat to Chelsea with a last minute own goal.

The nearest our players get to Champions League nowadays is watching it on television on a Tuesday and Wednesday night!

If anyone doubts how much Rafa was shafted by Hicks and Gillet, they should read Brian Reade's excellent book 'An Epic Swindle - 44 months with a pair of cowboys.' It is no wonder he took his eye off the ball but, if he had been given decent funds and signed his first choices, instead of having to scrape around for scraps, we would still be up there competing.

I genuinely hope Rodgers succeeds but he showed his inexperience straight away with his stance on Carroll. If he fails and needs to be replaced at some point in the future, I'd be delighted to have Rafa back. He was a man who risked and lost his job sticking up for the club and it's beliefs. It would have been easy for him to ignore what was going on but he told the truth! Isn't that what we at Liverpool always want?

To those who talk about Rafa as if they were talking about Hodgson, I suggest one of three things. 1 - you know absolutely nothing about football. 2 - you must have been in a coma for 5 years between 2005 and 2010 or, 3 - you prefer watching mediocrity to challenging and beating the best Europe has to offer!

redmersey

To redmersey, u got to to remember aswel though it was rafa who started our downward spiral cos his last season we finished 7th and don't tell me he didn't have money, he spent and wasted millions on players, spent well on Torres, pepe, alonso, agger, skrtel and mascherano but wasted millions and I mean millions on others, he's had his time now lets leave him in the past and move on, Brendan's the manager now so let's support him 100 per cent, rafa will never walk alone

I'll support Rodgers while he is here and think he is suffering in the same respect as Kenny, in that we lack a goalscorer to support Suarez. I am stating the obvious, I know..

However, I can't 100% agree about Rafa wasting millions. Earlier in the day there was a good post which itemised all Rafa's transfer dealings season by season. His net spend was negligible in a lot of them, certainly less than Kenny.

My point was that Rafa laid plans for deals for players like Vidic, Danny Alves, Silva, Villa, Malouda and maybe even Aguero. He was shafted in his efforts to get these players by Parry and the Americans and had to make do with second choices like Pennant, Babel, Crouch etc.

Rafa knows a class player when he sees one, usually before most others have even become aware of them, ie Alonso, Arbeloa, Agger, Skrtel, etc. Aquilani was a disastrous signing but, as detailed in Reade's book, was on a top recommendation from one of his scouts. There's not a Manager in the game who hasn't got some transfers wrong, as you never know how a player will perform until he pulls on the shirt and gets onto the pitch.

My point is that Rafa would no doubt have got us to where we want to be if he had been allowed to manage on his own terms. Instead, too many people in the club who had no football knowledge wanted to interfere and Rafa could not accept this.

I think it is unfair on Rafa to hang him out to dry over his last season. By then civil war had broken out within the club and his job was almost impossible to do. He is a man of principles and could not stand idly by without getting involved.

I don't have a problem with Rafa coming back. He is a world class Manager, unemployed, living on the doorstep and he loves the club. You say don't go back but I'd certainly go back to Champions League games every couple of weeks.

Hopefully Rodgers will get the time to see his plans through, I'm genuine about that, but he needs results. Rafa gets results and all I'm saying is that his name should be first on the shortlist if Rodgers ultimately fails.

10 Nov 2012 09:55:33
Am I the only one who thinks we need to look towards next season? The transfer mess has meant BR has had to look at our young players, I personally see this as a bonus and will benefit us much more next season as he will have a much better view of the qualities and deficits in the squad. In my opinion this experiemce will make us stronger in the second part of the season and definitely next season. Realism is uncomfortable as we want to the best, currently we are not, hopefully we can start to move in the right direction. I also think we need to keep our best players including Sterling, dont blame the kid for trying to get as much money as possible, thats the nature of modern footballers. The top players will get the money, mediocre players who get top money is the problem. A win on Sunday anybody?

Evo YNWA

I agree with something's you said but sterling wanting £50,000 per week is pathetic.....he's only 17 years old, he will be a good player i think, but if he came over n said that to me I'd tell him to pack his bags n sell him....no one at 17 years old should be on that money! Messi wasn't on that at 17! Who's to say that if he does get that sort of money n soon after his form goes downhill , then what? We will have egg on our face yet again n become a laughing stock! We can't let players like that hold us to ransom! No one is bigger than the club! I actually think suso will turn out to be a better player then sterling for us!

Ack17 with a liverbird upon my chest 4eva

Worth every penny top players are a good money dont matter how old he is and he makes things happen. How much crap have we got that are on big money who has done nothing for the club??

Let sterling get over his honeymoon period and see if he keeps up the level hes showing i dont think liverpool would be stupid to commit long term big money contract yes the kid has talent but its still very early in his career and im sure they have a rough idea of how to deal with sterling. But when i read what some papers were saying i just rolled my eyes and said let the nonsense begin. But it looks like the kid has come out already and nipped it in the bud.

If it is true that he wants £50k per week he can jog-on. Only just broken into the 1st team. Not worth that amount of money - yet. In the future - possibly, as long as he continues to develop and improve.

Michael Owen all over again?

Any truth in Sterling waiting 50k a week.

As sick as it is for any footballer to earn this, he plays every week, would still be earning less than many 'stars'

30k still not bad sterling - most people work all year for less!

there's so much panic and discussion about lfc that people forget it's not all about rodgers himself or some jwh hedgefond. we have a nice team and just need to get goals in.

Once we get rid of Andy Carroll, Spearing, Downing, Henderson & Cole we will be back to a rebuilding season.

10 Nov 2012 05:55:21
the joke is we have been rebuilding for the last 3 season.

and next season it will also be a rebuilding season as we will be with a lot of new players that would have joined to fill up the numbers.

2014/2015 will be epic!

Agree but none of it is br fault, we need to settle down now and finally start re-building otherwise it's gonna be change after change, br is the man I believe will move us to where we all wanna be

10 Nov 2012 03:59:02
The biggest problem we have is suarez all our good build up play goes to suarez then what happens ,he takes on everyone, hates passing to someone in a better position,he has gone down so easily in past games looking for penalties and free kicks that when he really is fouled refs dont give or even worse book him for diving he screams at other players for not giving him the ball mainly sterling -have you noticed -yes he is a magician and has loads of tricks but we should of had more goals by now, suarez is to blame and i think this greed will rub off on sterling if we are not careful ,i say sell suarez now for 30-40 million and get in two world class strikers if we can who are team players and with the money we was going to spend on a striker without selling suarez we could use for bringing alonso back or if not able another world class playmaker, not forgetting sell cole whos had his day, henderson hasent done enough for money we paid, downing another dissapointment, keep carragher to help youngsters through as too old now but a legend, also sell reina as desire does seem to be elsewhere,if we cut out all dead wood with our youngsters and world class talent in now and in comming january and summer transfers we will be the very best again-SALLY

The trouble is there's hardly ever a time when there is another player in a better position so he has to do it all himself

Suarez has made mistakes since he signed for us but he's got his head down and is working his socks off for the team, we all know about his fantastic skill but his workrate is also phenominal.
Don't buy into all the media hype about him diving and cheating? I can think of umpteen occasions where he's been fouled and not been given the penalty or freekick but I can't think of one single occasion where he's won a "Dodgy penalty or free kick" unlike perenial divers such as Ashley Young who consistently wins "Dodgy penalties and free kicks" Suarez's has a good character and is a devoted family man.
kidmillions

So this week it's luis suarez's turn to take the criticism, wonder who next week???

He's our top scorer and he never give's up but your slating him for his mistake's? If it was'nt for his goal's we'd be in the bottom 3

Luis a legend already to me! he'll be here for year's to come! So get use to it!

This isnt a rumour but wanted to voice my opinion on a matter. Big shout out to anyone who was at the ynwairishreds fund raiser for the HFSG tonight. We were absolutely honoured to be joined by none other than Margaret Aspinall, Sue Roberts and Jenni Hicks. All of who were an absolute pleasure to meet and inspirational figures for the way they have conducted themselves.we were also entertained for the night by Darren Farley and others who attended FOR FREE. The one and only flaw in the night was the fact that we couldn't get ONE SINGLE ex player over for the occasion because they are money hungry ****ers who were demanding at least 4k just to turn up. When I hear half these people talk on tv about how much the tragedy hurts them etc etc yet they look to profit from it is a ****in disgrace but as Sue rightly said on the night, not one single ex player is more important than the objective of getting JUSTICE.

What are the chances of isco and munian eds?
They are top quality both under 20 would prolly cost 40m for them both but it must be worth it! {Ed002's Note - Very slim. TRy the search function.}

ed007 apologies about the outburst the other day ive relaxed now just read your reply made me lol. i was pissed off at the the talk about the futures bright but the present is dire as a fellow poster well put. i just dont think br is the man for the job and we took a huge gamble hiring him and sacrifed a season for transition. harry took spurs from bottom to finish 8th when he took over there and played very good attacking football and got champions league football which is what we want/need he has that on his cv does rodgers? what does rodgers have on his? we are a huge club we have fallen down the league but still recongnised as a top club. in the summer i was gobsmacked our job was narrowed down to rodgers and martinez. and for all the kenny haters about 120 mill spent on players do your homework he had a net spend of 39mill i can put up a link if you wish to view it. and again apologies eds :-) yas do a great job. belfast phil ywna. doesnt mean anything but i have a caravan in carnlough i just dont think hes the man. but will forever support liverpool fc {Ed007's Note - Apology accepted but it's really not necessary. Don't worry about it.}

The books may say a net spend of 39 mill but the out goings still say we spent over 100 mill on downing, adam, henderson, carroll and enrique

Dalglish spent all our rebuilding money on championship quality players (apart from suarez) and by doing so set us back by about 3 years

BR has worked miracles to give us a starting 11 which is only lacking an out n out striker

Lucas, allen, sahin, gerrard, shelvey, sterling suso, suarez (maybe huntelaar/walcott in jan)

Or lucas adam, spearing, henderson, carroll etc?

If u cant see that we are going in the right direction and that BR has done admirably in just one window then you're just a glory hunter who wants it all now, now, now

Support the team through thick n thin dnt reminisce on our glories and get vexed because we dont have it right now, all we can do is get behind the team and manager

U rather our club be in thw handa of redknapp?? Ur having a bubble,

Look at what hamman said today on twitter he said i guarentee you if rodgers had even HALF of money which was wasted last year BR would be in the top 5 by now

We have THE youngest team in the PL only 6 points from top (should be 4 points re: everton robbery)

I think u and the rest of the blind need to try and see the bigger picture

Peace and blessings

Shak Attack

If hes not the man then who is? i'm sick and tired of posts like this because even if we got rid of Rodgers i don't see any managers jumping up and down to get hired by Liverpool. Perhaps Rafa might come back but do we really want to go back to that?

Yet another moaner (which you're entitled to do if you feel the need) but where are your solutions? We can all state the problems past and present at LFC but what should be done about it? Sack BR? Reinstate Dalglish? Ask for a full refund on Downing?
It's ok to have your glass half empty if you have proposals on how to fill it up.....otherwise you just sound like a whinger

No way should HR ever be LFC manager. We were nearly bankrupt once, don't want to go there again.
Also, BR IS the right man for the job. So what if we lose a season to transition!! In the long run we will be better off for it.
I'm disgusted at the so called fans slating him after only 10 league games.
I'm also sick of this 'Net Spend' some are using to stick up for KK. The fact is the outlay was over £100m on players that were not worth that amount of money and were not good enough. Also, the transfer fee on the player coming in and the money received on the player going out is not the full picture. There are agents fees, signing on fees, payments to players out etc. the Nett Spend you love is nowhere near as low as you think!!
Imagine if we had spent the £100m on proper quality and still had the Nett Spend you drag out all the time. We'd be in a much better place.

Not nice to see fans getting attacked for being worried about the clubs current position, yes we are only six points from the top but we are also only six points from the bottom.Im really hoping Rodgers can turn it around,I fully understand he is in a really tough position and hes doing the best he can with what hes got but is it wrong for me to question is it good enough?I dont think so.

Haha...I see some fans saying chelski is a must win game..since when did they become a midtable team like us..forget our previous wins there this is a different team compared to the last one..u beta start hoping for a draw..and if we loose don't come here saying crap like its suarez, falcao and messi in our attack..also just heard sterling wants close to 50k,I hope both parties negotiate a good deal for him, this aint no ince complaining without proving himself, sterling waited for his chance and took it brilliantly..so if rodgers tries to pull a sigurdsson on this guy then he is very stupid..

Just watched Derren Brown: Fear and Faith, perhaps we could do this on Henderson so he has some confidence on the ball.
