CB- williams and alderweireld, bit random and more for comedy but would love us to get jagielka
DM- diame, wanyama
AM- eriksen or the guy from shaktar
RW- tello, rojas, ince, mertens, gaitan. Just generally anyone who is an improvement on downing
ST- remy or gamerio
CM- xabi alonso
GK- vorm
Can the eds please tell me whther Liverpool is
interested in or could potentially buy these
players, cheers.
Really hope we actually do sensible and high quality business this time, don't see what is wrong with the board and scouting network doing signings now. Every other club does it and we are always the ones sat here crying because we couldn't be arsed to sign a player who clwarly would have joined.

How does this work? To retain a controlling interest they need 51% but anything under that amount is not a major stake.

i have started to hate spurs. for years they've never bothered me and i've quite enjoyed watching them play. but now i can't stand them! they are linked with every player in world football and its starting to piss me off. i do wish we had someone like levy though. he really pushes for the top players and isn't scared of trying to sign big name players like liverpool are. we need some balls at our club because i cringe at the crap we are linked with every window. williams, mingnolet, weimann. what the fu*k are we playing at! we should be trying to sign players like dede eriksen and sanchez. no wonder we are mid table we have no ambition anymore with our signings {ed019's note - so you hate spurs for buying good players}

don't get too excited about whiskey nose hanging up his boots, they are being linked with Ronaldo, strootman, lewandowski, di maria, fellaini, baines, bale. I also watched palace tonight and think zaha could be a real player and they already have a team that's just won the league which is no easy task, moyes isn't the greatest manager and they won't do well in the champions league for a while, that much is certain but let's wait and see who they sign/don't sign before we get cocky eh. focus on LFC

I recall people said that about a certain Mr Messi when he burst onto the scene.
He has talent - and flair to his game. Give him time.
I see shades of a young Cristiano Ronaldo in him. Which reminds me of what they used to say about CR.

Whats puzzles me (appropriately) is that a large number of people on this site denigrate the sugar daddy owners of City, Chelsea et al, and yet others (maybe the same posters) seem to be looking forward to such an owner and listing all the star players we could sign.
Do we want to 'buy the title' as we have accused City and Chelsea ( and once upon a time, Blackburn) or do we not? Clarification needed!

Mate no team has won trophys without spending big!
Shankly when he entered at Liverpool within 3 days changed the full team and brought 13 new players and that only in his first 3 days and broke several transfer records, and in his first 2 years total brought 33 players again that only in 2 years to promote Liverpool for league, does that mean he bought promotion!
Paisley despite having a world class team given by shankly bought countless players and broke all british transfer records and went to achieve success which no Liverpool manager has done till now does that mean he bought success!
Kenny Dalglish again he had fantastic team of paisley but went to buy many players and broke every transfer record to continue winning trophy does that mean we bought success!
Sir Alex ferguson one of the best manager the british game has everseen, when he entered at united he was buying players and breaking every transfer record which were set by us like rain, evey year he was buying 5-6 players and seting new transfer records in british game like rain that's how he has achieved all this success, oh in 2000s he was buying players like ferdinand-33M, players like veron-28M etc does that mean he bought success
Chelsea didn't win any league or champions league until Abramovich does that mean they bought success
City from division club to League champions does that mean they bought success
You need to find some information mate, no club or team in history has won trophys or dominated without spending big!
Some of the managers I have mentioned above they are called leagends and one of the greats but yet spent big to achieve for what they are known today does that mean they bought all their success?
Agree0
Disagree0
10 May 2013 23:08:51
So that means Liverpool have bought their history because when Liverpool were dominating they were breaking every transfer record, you can check in google how much history Liverpool has bought by money, maybe you were to young to know that.
Agree0
Disagree0
Puzzled has a fair point though.
Yes we did and have always spent big when required to improve on the team we have or to maintain dominance, but actually Chelsea did Buy success and so have Man City, without question
Would Chelsea be where they are without a hugely wealthy billionaire who can throw millions for fun. No
Would Man City, No way otherwise they would have been dominant years ago.
I personally want LFC to be the best again but not at any cost. I actually do not want us to be owned by a billionaire if that billionaire is dodgy as hell.
Dont be naive to think chelsea's sugar daddy has not done many questionable things to get that sort of cash in a country largely very poor.

All teams spend to get success and lfc need to because we no longer live in a world were the likes of Ipswich can win the league and when people look for a great manager take a look at what alf ramsey did at ipswich champions of the second division moved up to first division and won it the first year then went and won the world cup nice one I say. red mick tag

No-name above - I asked for clarification - not a lecture. I didn't make my personal views clear in my original post, I merely pointed out the diametrically opposing viewpoints on the subject, which regularly pop up on here.
But. one point I need to make.
there is a very large difference between 'buying big' or 'breaking
transfer records' which most of the
'top' sides had been doing (with varying degrees of success) and then simply drowning the game in
petro-dollars and smothering their
star purchases with obscene amounts of Wonga each month.
is that clear enough?

Gareth mate are you kidding? You say yes we did then again go and point at chelsea and city,
The way city and chelsea are spending now it was the same what Liverpool were doing at that time, shankly used to fight with board to buy expensive players, you need to find some information mate, he even threaten to quit 4-5 times if the players weren't bought which he wanted, he even had said to media, boadrs are their to sign cheques not interfere or block the players which he wanted, at that time Liverpool were buying all class players and consistantly breaking transfer records, even more then city or chelsea doing now, shanlky used to buy 8-13 players a season at the sametime consistantly fighting with board.
Paisley took Liverpool to different level as he had already most expensive squad at that time at his disposal and continued spending big the same mantra which shanks used in a squad who already were filled with class players all over the pitch and went on to achieve success which no Liverpool or any manager has achieved, in 5 years he won 3 champions league trophys and couple of league titles that's how dominant we were and still continued spending big in a squad which was not needed, total in his 9 years won 6 league titles, 3 champions league trophys, 1 eurpean cup, couple of super cups, fa cups etc total 20+ trophys in just 9 years, his success ratio is more then any manager in world football past or present even fergie`s success ratio is no where near paisley,
Kenny did the same continued spending big in a squad which was not needed and again took Liverpool to the level which no teams could compete!
If you see the success or our history of club is because we were spending big and no team could compete with us financially or quality wise,
Now look how things are changing and how Liverpool were imploding,
Ferguson came at united and started spending big and easily compete with us financially, at other hand kenny was continuing winning trophys, but fergie and man united were breaking every transfer record to buy players, the gap was getting closer and closer and playing field was getting same now, because united were consistantly spending and their squad/team was matching our squad/team interms of quality, but yet kenny was still continuing winning trophys, then 96 tragedy happen and kenny decided to resign and we hired souness angain gave him big money to spend but he bought all average players at other hand fergie and united were continuing spending big and buying world class players and they over took us,
In this all years the only big factor was money, so why blame chelsea or city?

The truth is its impossible to win major trophys or dominating without spending big!
Look at Rodgers every press conference he complains about the quality and how badly we need quality players to compete and that's the reality.
Eg let's take coutinho or borini etc we invest 3-4 years on them to take us to another level at the sametime teams like chelsea or city or united just go and buy world class players, all our efforts, hard work, time ect is washed out and we find ourselves in same situation because other teams just go and buy players to take them to another level which we invested money, time etc and still find ourselves in same situation, this was the same problem with arsenal that's why their youth policy massively failed.

Our summer signings will play a major role not only next season's performances but also where as a club Liverpool FC will be placed.
Top4 was within reach (matches drawn and lost against lower opposition) and I don't want to hear Mr Rodgers talking about building towards Top4! We should be challenging!
Another mediocre season will end up with Rodgers getting the sack and leaving our club in a mess!
It will be the 4th season without CL football (or 5th?) and we will soon be forgotten, if we're not already!
LET US NOT LOWER OUR EXPECTATIONS AND LET MR RODGERS KNOW THAT 'BUILDING' TOWARDS TOP4 IS NOT ACCEPTABLE! WE SHOULD BE CHALLENGING!
P. S. Mr Rodgers' sutubbornness in not playing certain players should be extremely worrying to us fans. Assaidi was a Rodgers buy, has always performed, but does not get the chance! Coates will leave and become a great defender at another club where they give him a chance! Carroll was written off without an outing and he's scoring GOALS now! Goals mean winning games, do I care if we play route-one in some games NOT AT ALL as long as we win!
Believable0
Unbelievable0
Carroll isn't even in double figures this season sturridge with half a season has done more,
I don't understand why people rate Assaidi so much, he hasn't shown anywhere near the quality or effort to break into the team. Coates is a player I like but has shown is games that he just isn't good enough yet, and I don't think Lfc/we have the time to blood him.

I've just read that Alderweireld has apparently said he hasn't made a decision on leaving Ajax and mentioned us as a possibility. Think he'd be the ideal replacement for Carragher and also takes me onto my question; How many defenders do you think we'll be looking to sign in the summer? With Carra retiring and Skrtel, Wilson & Coates potentially leaving we've only got Agger as an experienced defender, but with Wisdom & Kelly who can also shift across. I would say we need 2, but I'd like to see Coates go out on loan as he hasn't been given a proper chance to prove himself.
Appreciate the response and the awesome work you guys do here! {Ed002's Note - I would expect two and Alderweireld will be heading toward Rome. Coates wants out - and I think he will go.}

If I could choose a defender it would be Alderweireld. I'd dance a jig if he signed.
He would be a realistic option imo.
A move to Roma would be a strange choice.
No disrespect to them, Roma are a good side and they can offer European football - but Serie A is not the most attractive destination these days for a player of his ability.
We are Liverpool. That's why Suarez joined us. That's why we can compete for quality.
I can see him going elsewhere for sure - I think Barca could benefit from having a player like him - Chelsea also - but then, they never address these issues.
But Roma? If he did join them - I would think we must not have tried to get him.
Any hints on the Rome links ed?
I don't know BR's opinions on Alderweireld. I hope he gets the chequebook ready though. He's worth shelling out for.
We need quality, not the likes of Ashley Williams.

I expect Real, Barcelona, city and PSG to do a lot of business in summer. do you know which players may become available in summer? and which Liverpool has a chance to get their services?
my guess is,
Nasri goes to PSG and Menez becomes available.
Sakho & Gameiro are already available.
Cavani goes to city, Falcao goes to madrid so dzeko and higuain will be available.
Aguero goes to Barcelona. villa and Sanchez become available.
may be even a lot more but from these deals I believe we can realistically get the three PSG players
Menez, Sakho & Gameiro.
if suarez leaves then it becomes a whole different story.
and if all these three have a chance of changing management. in that's case, evern more players will become available.
may be it will be wise to wait until august to get the best deals as much the impatience will kill me. {Ed019's Note - Don't think this will happen}

Total: £36 million
Ins:

Why all this talk of selling Reina? He had a bad run, but even if you don't think hell ever get back to full form, which of those keepers can distribute the ball better than Reina? Which are devoted to the club like Reina and which would be able to command the defense like Reina? I'd be happy to keep Reina, AND I believe he's nearly back to top form. He's put in some goo performances in the last few months plus he says he wants to stay. On top of the fact that he's not going to draw a huge fee, how does selling him make sense at all?

No mate. never criticizes our owners. they did had ambition. they also had pretty good intereste.
and probably that's the reason. they heard all of us and bought KK to the manager post. and sanctioned him who ever he needs. on whatever the price are.
we wasted their silly money. window after window.
Owners are not responsible for our current position.
You are lucky that Liverpool is not owned by Levy. forget 15 mill he won't even spend 10 mill.
Is still the reason we have overpaid for some of the under average players.
who on earth will sanction 20 mill for downing mate?

Give some credit where it's due. Reina has been a lot better over the last few months.
I don't want to sell him. If he can keep up his current form it would be hard to find a better 'keeper.
He was magnificent once - and he's still young for a goalkeeper.
I recall many young 'keepers touted as 'the next big thing' at Anfield - and cracking under the pressure when they joined.
This isn't Champ Man (which I enjoy).
If it was - I'd want ter Stegen too. Doesn't everyone?
Gimme Pepe any day in real life though. He has a wealth of experience - the big games don't faze him.
I hope he keeps up his current form and plays a blinder next season.

Can anybody confirm if we have been looking at Stefan Reinartz from Leverkusen. I was flying in from Frankfurt to Heathrow yesterday and I overheard a conversation containing his name and Liverpool in the same sentence. The more I thought about it the more it made sense. Decent player, passes and moves well, he can play the holding role or central defence and would certainly fit in with the style of play that Brendan Rodgers wants. Would the player give up Champions League football to come to us surely Sami Hyypi could put a good word in.

Hello Ed (s) and fellow reds.
Subject? SKRTEL.
With Carragher leaving, is it really wise to let go of an experienced premier league centre half? Just last year, Agger and him were one of the strongest defensive pairing. He tends to be a little rough in the box at times but Brendan can aim to perfect that part of his game.
Having said that, we should buy a CB that will compete for the position with Skrtel. We cannot let Carragher and Skrtel go at the same time, along with Coates as suggested.
In my opinion:
Carragher (retires)
Coates - £5 million
Thats the only changes we should be making in the defence.
Buy a CB to compete with Skrtel and promote Kelly as back up.
Id like to know what people think?
Its easy to say, oh let's get rid of Coates and Skrtel and buy two CB's but that is a major change and what LFC needs now is tweaking, not wholesale changes or else we'll have another season in transition.
Also, what's the deal with MERTENS? Bayern have lost interest, we should go all in for him for the right hand side and have INCE as back up if it doesn't work out. No dilly dallying.
Cheers

10 May 2013 12:39:15
Our defence is making the whole team look bad. We cannot play an attacking winger down the right, because they have to cover for Johnson, and we cannot press the opposition in their own half because Agger and Skrtel take longer to accelerate than a freight train, and have the turning circle of a Boeing 747. To be fair to Agger, he is quite quick when he gets going, but he's so slow off the mark.
If we had fast centre halves, or at least one on the right side of the centre back pairing, we could hold a higher line, and they could also help to cover for Johnson. Coates is awful. Carragher is retiring. Skrtel is on too high wages to be a back up. All three need to go in my opinion.
YNWA! (Adam)

Sorry Adam I don't agree that Coates is awful. I'd like to see him given a chance because I can see him going somewhere else and becoming a top player.

If your front players work off the ball then a slow CB doesn't prevent you playing a high line. [FR]
Agree0

I think keeping skertl makes perfect sense. I don't rate Coates as he's too slow and sloppy and doesn't show the work rate. At the worst we see skertl in January if it was a mistake to keep him, but I think he'll prove his worth by then.
The criticism of agger and skertl being slow is completely wrong in my opinion. Skertl does not show any really ability to play decisive attacking balls out of the back true but agger going forward and playing out of the back quality. His driving runs into the oppositions defense are usually pretty successful at changing the momentum of the game. If we get one CB to replace Carragher and sell Coates, then I say we keep bring through another CB as backup and allow agger to cover for Lucas if need be though I feel that our mid should be able to cope without Lucas, but that's another post.

Likewise I will then compare Everton to the Sugababes or Atomic Kitten!!!!!

I heard it was to do with an off-field issue, but anyone who believes the myth that Robbie Keane was by any means a bad player - or that he was simply 's***' (as I often hear people say - joining the British media chorus as always) has no clue about football.

It has been evident this season that Lucas needs cover/competition. He is a class act and when he is out we look very weak in that area. Wanyama from Celtic would be a great addititon to the team as he can play both DM and CB. Diame aswell would be another who could compete for that role. Are we looking for a DM to add to the team? Also do fans feel we lack a bit of height in the team now? I know we like to play it on the deck and pass and move but when you look at teams above us they mix it up a lot more than we do. Corners seem redundant unless Agger is up there so another CB like him would be nice.

Just a little bit of interesting info posted by the NEW YORK TIMES: Everton are actually where they should be considering their finances. They are eighth in terms of commercial revenue, players wages, and game day revenue. So in reality they haven't been overachieving.
Not saying he won't do well at Utd. but I am asking how many times they came from losing places to end up winning? Moyes doesn't have the same character as Fergie to turn all those losing places into wins.
Even a Utd. fan can't argue with that, Fergie had a way with getting those last gasp goals out of his team. In my opinion it'll be worse than Chelsea trying to replace Mourinho, or like when their own Scholes retired.
It really has nothing to do with us, but it does promote a lot more competition in the league.

The mighty 'pool are higher than 8th in terms of commercial revenue.
Everton are above us.
Clearly they are overachieving - based on your revenue=position rationale.
Scholes missed most of this year too - they are better without him it seems.
(the media are strangely quiet about that)
Moyes could be very good. He'll be hungry for trophies, have a better quality of player and money to spend. Whatever about his achievements (or lack of them) - he
doesn't tolerate slackers, and he'll have Fergie available for advice.
Europe could remain problematic for them though - that's why I'm glad they didn't get Mourinho.
Jose and Utd could have been quite a combo. Ugly football, but he gets the job done.

I can see Moyes at UTD for less than one year as they will be fighting for relegation next season. mark my word
Forever Red {Ed023's Note - As a Liverpool fan, to read posts like this are embarrassing.. Sorry mate but United won't near 10th never mind below it.}

Agree with ed023. Manchester United may not enjoy the same level of success with Moyes as they did with whiskey nose, but to think they will go into free fall is unthinkable. They r a very well run business and have a pretty good squad. Plus whiskey nose will still be pulling the strings as director. How about we concentrate on our team?

Im a red through and through but just want my fellow Reds to win a few quid, I've just put 200 on Chelsea next year at 3/1. i'm a betting man so wasnt off the cuff, weighed everything up and the value of 3/1 is a steal. City are 11/8 and United 13/8 with some bookies. As soon as Mourinho is confirmed and the 30+ million signings they will no doubt do throughout the summer are made, then come the start of the season that 3/1 will be but a dream. 13/8 most probably. So get on it now and win a few quid. Not having a bet on it but I well reckon we will make the top 4. YNWA.

You put 200 on a team you don't even support winning the league before anything about their future is even confirmed? You may be brave, but you are not a betting man - a betting man plays the odds. You are a man who just enjoys betting

When Fergie joined Manchester United they were a sleeping giant. He got time to build it to what it is today.
It's too big a club for Moyes, he has no idea what he's in for.
Giggs will go, Rooney wants out, Van Persie will be the wrong side of 30 and Rio's back will snap again.
He won't know how to deal with it. They are about to undergo a massive transition, time to sit back and enjoy.

Is it possibly you're confusing the editors of this site with a guy called Edward who has some connection to the number 16?
