Hi Eds

Did i read you say that we need to approach Citeh before end of season about Milner? Ie before the summer?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool can approach MC to request to talk to the player or wait until June 1 (unless the club release him earlier).}

11 Mar 2015 13:55:40
I hope not. Milner is not what we need.

Red Rum

Completely agree Red Rum, he is nearly 30, not a particularly great wide player, not a great centre midfielder, he isn't particularly quick, he hasn't got the best end product, he just seems to run around lots. Doesn't have the discipline or nous to play centre midfield either.

Me neither. Where would he play and who would he displace? We need 2/3 top players and Milner AIN`T one of them.

He would be great as a wing back. Very under rated player in my opinion.

Ed001 I think someones been taken your advice, looks like Sinclair is off on a short term loan in the coming days with Jack Dunn going on loan again as well.

Warning, Leroy Sane fever approaching!

Just a thought I have a worry that United may be able to beat us due to the fact that they play like the Wimbeldon of old.We as Liverpool don, t play long ball football.I would of said stoke but that would be harsh on stoke as they can play decent football at times.Is there any team apart from United that play that kind of football.Just wondering could we loan some 6 ft 8 defenders that can just keep heading the ball away.

Skertl is one of the best header-defenders in the league if not the best of them. Sakho is also a good header. The key will be to stop them in midfield and stop them from crossing. They have other dimensions to their game as well. In any case the key will be to take our chances and score. Their defence gives the opposition chances - we will just have to be clinical which we weren't in OT.

Firstly everyone has bad days.

Crystal Palace away last season; Oldham FA Cup - Skrtel IMO is not the best at heading in defensive situations.

This is not meant as a hate campaign; he still does a lot of things I do not like but since there has been three at the back he hasn't been as bad as I normally think he is (that being said Johnson has rarely been in the side and Can whilst in defense takes the pressure of the CB closest to him).

I'd appreciate Ed001's comments on this; he has highlighted when Skrtel has previously dropped too deep and if I'm honest some of the matches I've just got through without a heart attack let alone analysing our defensive performance of individuals!

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I am still unconvinced by Skrtel, he is better in this system, but he is not good enough on the ball. Opponents are able to just let him have it, as they know he will end up playing it short or back or hoof it. His rashness is being covered up, rather than repaired. We should be playing a system to make the most of all of our players, it shouldn't be about covering up for the deficiencies of one because he can't cope in any other. Sorry Skittles but you still aren't good enough for me. Still dropping off constantly and allowing the opposition the chance to get in behind the other centre backs as you are playing everyone onside.}

11 Mar 2015 02:18:47
Not sure they are actually Ohio.
Skrtle is alright at getting headed goals now and again but he and sakho are average at best at defensive headers.

Agree2 Disagree0

11 Mar 2015 07:48:35
fanobip, i would disagree about sakho being a good header of the ball.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - to be fair, Sakho does tend to win most of his headers, it is just that it seems to rebound off his head in a random direction each time. It reminds me of a time when I was a kid and the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon was popular on the telly and so all the kids in school started playing the game too. We used to play it on the bus on the way home, as it took ages, and you would roll a D20 (I think it was called that anyway) to see what direction something went. I often wonder if someone is up there playing D&D with Sakho and just rolling a die to see what direction the ball bounces off his head!}

11 Mar 2015 09:06:37
that is very true ed001, but to be a 'good header of the ball' surely should include being able to direct it atleast out of danger, as we are talking about a CB here. or atleast, that's my opinion.

i would say being able to win headers AND get it out of danger would make a good header of the ball for a CB.

if he can get that right, there's not much i would complain about sakho, as even with this problem, i still think he's our best CB. anyways that's just my opinion.

maybe its his hair? surely there is a spot somewhere where if u throw the die on it would just fit in like a lego?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - I do agree I would prefer him to be able to direct it too, I was just trying to point out why some might think he is a good header of the ball.

As for the hair, I would love to find out if that is true.}

11 Mar 2015 10:06:22
yeah ed001, point taken. when i saw your comment, it did make me rethink, and i would agree, he does win most of his headers.

Why do we need to employ a system the babysits a player and covers up his faults instead of getting the best out of him and the rest of the players. Skrtel is not good enuff and the fact that he needs other defenders to babysit him tells it all. As for Sahko`s heading, it is quite simple. "See what you head and head what you see", my coach used to see. That way, you are able to direct the ball almost 100% of the time.

Rather sakhos random head winning headers then and I quote LVG's "secret weapon" big fellani

Hypothetically, if Rodger's gets the sack at the end of the season and so does Carlo Ancelotti, would the fans welcome a switch between the two and would he be a realistic option?

Believable0 Unbelievable3

{Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen.}

Thought as much, but which part exactly, him joining us or him being fired by Real?

{Ed002's Note - He may well leave RM but he won't be sacked and he won't be joining Liverpool.}

I really hope BR doesn't do any more experiments with the starting 11 from now to the end of the season. We have seen enough to know what works and what doesn't.

Can, Skertl and Sakho at the back, Moreno on the left, Allen and Henderson Midfield (at least until Lucas is fit), Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge Lallana upfront, and until Ibe is fit Markovich on the right. I can live with Gerrad instead of Lallana occasionally but don't see a reason for any other experiements unless someone of the above is injured.

We are out of Europe so mostly 1 game a week but even when not - and if a player needs a rest he can rest in the summer holidays.

We will need our best starting 11 for every game until the end of he season in the formation that has worked for us.

That's 12 players there. Well 11, but you haven't put the keeper in the list.

Agree8 Disagree0

10 Mar 2015 15:53:24
When has he experimented recently? Allen came in due to Lucas and Gerrard being injured. Moreno has been occasionally dropped for being visibly jaded and ineffective. A few Lovren came in as Sakho was injuried, Johnson when Can was required for the CDM due to Allen being injured and Toure when Skrtel wen't off injured. Moreno is the only change he's made recently that wasn't injury forced

You are right - well starting with 12 can be an issue with some referrees, so in that case I would drop Markovicth to the bench and play Henderson on the right. Even better.

fanobip Henderson is wasted on the right.

Thanks for that great summer summary Eds, really whets the appetite.

I see Ilori has finally started to play some games and has done well.
Do you see him getting a chance next season? A back 3 should suit him.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I expect him to get a chance in pre-season to show what he can do before a decision is made final.}

10 Mar 2015 12:39:54
Fingers crossed he gets his chance. Ilori is a CB who could well be here for the next 8-10 seasons so i hope manager gives him a fair shot. Would love to see a CB pairing of Sakho and Ilori for next season with Lovren providing cover. Skrtel is no good in a back 4 so i would sell him if a decent offer is made.
