I ownder wether Kenny Dalglish would want to drop Martin Skrtel fro a side that defended valiantly at Old Trafford , as much as I would prefer to see :

. . . . . . . . .Martin Kelly. . Daniel Agger. . . . . . . .

paired at the back from now on , kudos has to be given to the backline when it defends well . Maybe Kenny Dalglish will get a defender out of Glen Johnson and then line up with 2 footballing centre backs and 2 attacking full backs .

I thought it worth mentioning that when a new manager takes over a football club there is always that period of experimentation as the manager takes stock of who is there and how best to use them , it will be interesting to see how Kenny Dalglish implements team selection over the next one or two months .

With the poor performance by Fábio Aurélio against United, were he gave the ball away constantly and Testicle Head Konchesky being the worst left back ever to play for the Pool, i think we should really be looking for a new left back in this transfer window. Ed what ever happen to the interest in Marcell Jansen?

{Editor Note: What happened? Roy chose Konchesky instead.}

Liverpool Rumours
Liverpool have used Kenny Dalglish's 'welcome home' press conference to admit they may not sign any new players in January.

New interim boss Dalglish claimed he was "happy with the players here" and Anfield director of football strategy Damien Comolli, who was alongside him, added: "We don't know if we will bring players in. We have been working but January is a difficult market."

Liverpool director Ian Ayre, who was also at the press conference, denied Roy Hodgson's £7.5m pay-off and a contract for new first team coach Steve Clarke had meant the club's prospective transfer budget had been slashed.

But both insisted that Dalglish would have final word on any signings, with Comolli saying: "If Kenny isn't happy with a player we can sign, then it will be always down to the manager."

Liverpool have recently been linked with Stoke centre back Ryan Shawcross, Utrecht striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Benfica left back Fabio Coentrao.

To the individual who said we are penny pinchers by appointing Dalglish.

Hodgson had to go - no CV to talk off, never won a trophy outside Scandinavia. And whether or not you like Dalglish as a manager, to be honest there was no one available.

Please don't mention O'Neill ( another manager who has only ever won one domestic trophy ) and the foreign contingent, those that were available, again - all far too risky at this time, maybe in the summer window, but not now.

Based on actions to date and available information, I submitted two succinct and plausible posts as to why I believe NESV are demonstrating signs of the usual American business ethos John, but the Ed's seem to have adopted a 'don't critisise the owners' vetting regime tonight, so unfortunately you only have half a story.

Ed what are your thought on chamberlin (southampton) apparently faster and better than walcott and weve been scouting him . only 17 i think but maybe a great talent for the future?

{Editor Note: I can't really judge, I've never seen him play.}

He's quality- super fast would be a REALLY good shout definitely one for the future. However even though the king has been down to saint mary's to investigate him himself, it's still pretty unlikely we'll get him. The reason being southampton can offer hiim the level of football he needs at the moment - he's playing regularly and the prem would risk scuppering his talent. Also im pretty sure his dad was sacked from pompey for enrolling him in the southampton academy so his family clearly think he's in the right place at the moment. Maybe we could get him and loan him back i don't know, but i do know the king likes this kid although im pretty sure southampton told us to jog on. So say the whispers anyway. . .

Also ed, wud u like to see a fully fit aquilani back next season to have another chance with us? or wud u rather sell him to juventus permentaly?

{Editor Note: I'd sell him to Juventus. He was a big sissy and always complained about training being too hard. He's not cut out for English football so we should cash in on him.}

Don't rate coentroa, he's a left winger playing lb not good in defence at all much worse then johnson, just check what Hulk did to him this season.

Speaking of Hulk he would be an ideal signing for the summer POWER, PACE, GREAT TECHNIQUE and A FEROCIOUS shot (especiall under Andre Boas who looks ever more likely to be our manager in the summer) unless King Kenny performs a miracle which we are all hoping for and believe he is capable of.

Don't rate Honda at all been scouting him since we've been linked & although he has great technique and good work rate he would really struggle with the pace of the prem due to fact he likes alot of time on the ball.

I think luiz suarez, honda & maybe sakho or mvilla would be signed in Jan

My perfect team for the start of next season would be:

REINA
KELLY AGGER SKERTLE/ CARA DAVID LUIZ
M'VILLA
MEIRLES GERRARD

HULK LUIZ SUAREZ
TORRES

Manager: King Kenny/ A Boas

Ed, has Kenny Dalglish been in Dubai for footballing reasons to escape the eyes of the britisg media when talking to potential transfers? It would make sense as he may have also been told that he was about to get Hodgsons job also so he decided it was best to be out of the way.

Do you think there is anything in this Dubai trip or was it just a holiday for him. . it just doesn't make sense. . i mean, we were in termoil so Kenny escapes on holiday? Doesn't seem the case to me. {ed's note - it was a family holiday to the sun in the middle of winter, what is there to make sense of?}didn't Sam Allardyce say he spoke to kenny whilst he was in dubai? at the game on sunday?

For me, I would NOT SELL TORRES. Especially with the appointment of a man he has great respect for and admires.
He has committed his future so clearly his form is due to lack of confidence IMO.He was rushed back from serious injury for the world cup, where he got slated immensely, out-shone by David Villa, and hardly got game time.
Then he had to come straight back to Liverpool and play more football with a huge pressure and reliance on him to perform and deliver, being our star player.

Suffering from an immense lack of confidence, he couldnt regain his form and so I think he just got frustrated that he wasnt helping the team he LOVES, and WANTS DESPERATELY TO WIN TROPHIES WITH.
Im no body language expert, but I think he looks "sulky" and disinterested because he wants to succeed at Liverpool so badly, and also maybe with a huge lack of confidence surely that disables his will to work hard, as he thinks it won't get him anywhere anyway.
The Dalglish appointment IMO will do wonders for him, as many have said, and I hope we see the Fernando that dominates world football again. Any thoughts?

Spot on post King Kam, and lets not forget that even in this streak of 'poor form' he's been the one to save us in a couple of key games so far this season.

I don't think the people calling for us to cash in on Torres realise that you don't improve the club by selling on your best players!

Just a few words on Liverpools greatest prospects at the moment:

Suso- Watched him in a few games this season and he looks like he will turn into an inredible player. Great amounts of skill and a good passer.

Kelly- Played great when alled upon in some vital games this season. Looks very solid and knows what he is doing.

Shelvey- Looks like he is going to turn out to be a very good midfielder. Has an exellent Free kick and seems to be a great distributer of the ball.

Wilson- Not seen too muh of him but what I have seen, looks to be solid at the back and ould turn out to be a similar player to Daniel Agger.

What do you think ed?

How can you call it a waste to buy Coentrao ed? He is without doubt a great fullback. I know you might point at some defensive frailties, but the modern fullback is an attacking player. And he is not that poor defensively when you consider that he has been playing at left back for less than a year. And he is still only 22! Surely he can improve the defensive side of his game further. Does anyone else have an opinion of Coentrao? I think it is obvious I would love to see him in Liverpool red.

We do need someone new at center back, carragher still needed for his organisation, but hes gettin on abit now.
skrtle for me is one of the worse defenders on our squad, there is no reason why he shud start ahead of agger kyrgry, or kelly.
also some wingers are needed, aswell as the obvious position, a striker.

Who would uz like to see brought in at cb because it's obvious skrtel and the greek aren't good enough for liverpool
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I do not want to see anyone brought in at CB! Yes Sktel and Soto are not good enough but that does not mean we need new CB's. We have the best crop of young CB's in the world. Have a look lad:
-Martin Kelly
-Danny Wilson
-Daniel Ayala
-Andre Wisdom
There are four players who I am absolutely sure can play at the very highest level. Let's give the youth a go first and if they do not do the job, then a year or two down the road we can invest in some new talent at this position. But it is not even close to the first area of concern. We need wingers, strikers and fullbacks, and maybe a passing midfielder like Banega.
Wouldn't all of you agree?

We all know we need a striker asnd some wide players. We all know the January window is overpriced and quality scarce. We all know thsat we need tro concentrate between now and May on getting up the league.

Therefore I think we will do what is needed to bolster-up what we've got and the major work will be done in the summer. As a result therefore I believe that Johnson will be pushed up to Right Mid. We will bring in a wide left side player and that will be it for the senior squad. Kuyt, Jovanovic, Maxi, Cole, Pacheco and Babel can all provide cover for the flanks and play alongside Torres (or even in Kuyt and Babel in place of him if needs be).

We'll probably sign some young talent as well.

I don't see much leaving until the summer either.

The main thrust of the next 4 months is to try to get in and stay in the top 6. I firmly believe that a bit of a good run with the squad we've got and we could sneak 4th.

Ed>>> please post this, may answer a few questions.

But both insisted that Dalglish would have final word on any signings, with Comolli saying: "If Kenny isn't happy with a player we can sign, then it will be always down to the manager

But whoever said that the owners don't care about the on field performances is stupid. The on field performances matter if they are in it for money. But I firmly believe they aren't money-grabbers like the previous two.}

I'll only agree with hat when they produce the folding paper and start spending in the transfer market. Currently this looks to be a procarious position as they have appointed a spiv to go out there and find a hidden gem as opposed to addressing the immediate requirement of a proven talent.

Ya know, people are arguing that we need a striker and we need what and s* t, why don't Liverpool see the big picture here?? ?. .

The guy they should get and right now is Keisuke Honda, this is the same bloody guy who played at Defensive Midfield for VVV-Venlo, the same guy who played as a striker for Japan, the same guy who plays Centre Midfield, Centre Attacking Midfield or even Left Midfield for CSKA Moscow. ., infact i can even bet he could play Goal Keeper if we asked him, now why hasnt Liverpool noticed this? ?, surely they should have atleast bid for him? ?. .

I don't mind if he was the only player we bought this transfer season, i think he is the only player we need, infact i even see him as the successor to Steven Gerrard! ! ! !. .

Just doing a bit of research on players out there. . Working out what we need and Camolli connections and heres what I have come up with as possible new signings not over the top, just solid guys who would improve the team/ squad:

Benoit Tremoulinas 25, Left Back, Bordueax

Toby Alderweireld 21, Center Back (can also play right back) Ajax

Lass Diarra 25, Center Mid Real Madrid

Pablo Hernandez Right Mid 25 Valencia

Arda Turan Left Mid 23 Galatasaray

Keisuke Honda 24 Cska Moscow Attacking Midfielder

Tomas Necid Cska Moscow 21 Center Forward (Back up)

So the team could look like this

Reina
Kelly Agger Skrtel Tremoulina
Diarra Gerrard Honda
Hernandez Torres Turan

That would be a strong team and also with the others give it a strong squad. .

What ye guys think?
What do you think ed (s)?

The players all want Jamie Carragher or Ray Wilkins to be the new player coach.
I drink with most of the players during the week in Liverpool and they have been telling me that for ages. I'm for Wilkins.
Last week one of my mates who has to be discreet as he is one of the two accountants at the club and doesn't want anyone to know it was him speaking, told me confidentially that we have money to spend and are in discussion with Man City about Adebayor and Micah Richards.

There are far too many rumours on here that are so wide of the mark it is laughable. I use the same hairdresser as Dan Agger and he told me confidentially that King Kenny coming in ages ago and it would be the best ever for the team. We could see that yesterday. He also told me in strictest confidence that he wants to to stay. Good news.

My mate who swims at the same pool in Bebington as Maxi Rodriguez said that he heard from an unnamed player (doesn't want to get this Spanish speaking player in trouble and I understand that) that they feel Honda is coming. Good news.

It all seems to sound a lot better now that Kenny is back. On Friday I was out with mates of Skrtel and Reina and they said they had heard from their mates, who know a lot of people and I was surprised at how many, that training at Melwood would be changed this month. Not sure what that meant, but these guys seemed to know a lot about it.

By the way, all you muppets who keep banging on here about who the fu*k you know and what you heard - you know jack! Stop making stuff up you muppets and just post stuff that is true!
Clowns!

Heh heh heh. Hopefully the other accountant at the club is not female.

Ed, ive been reading peoples posts over the last few days, and peoples opinions seem to be changing from one day to the next, in particular the veiws on nesv.
i by no means have a solid opinion of them, but i do believe there intentions are the corect ones. too many people think that good owners are the one who spend big, by the best now for huge fees and pay crazy wages, when in reality only 2 clubs run the club that way man city and real madrid, one of which are now feeling the pinch of having to pay back money that was borowed, and mancity are in a financial league of there own. chelsea in recents times have spent very little and look like there big spending days are behind them. truth is clubs do not turn over enough to sustain big fees big wages etc without going in to the red, somewhere we found our selves in not too long ago. yes a rebuild is required but when i read some of the comments made about nesv's lack of throwing big money in to buying players 10 days in a january transfer window it gets me a little wound up. am i in the minority when thinking that nesv's plan is that of 2/ 3 even 4 years as opposed to 6/ 12 months. clubs like leeds even newcastle threw money in to a short term plan, and look what happend there. a quick fix is not the answer, the club needs to be re-evaluated, from the bottom to the top, with the youth system the best it can be, the scouting the best it can be, training facilities, sports science etc so for generations to come, the club is bringing threw the next steven gerrard, jamie carragher, robbie fowler etc, and not buying players for huge amounts year after year.
this in my opinion is what makes good owners, not a sheik like at mancity who imo is fast destroying english football. so please to any doubters give the owners time, as these things can not and will never be acheived in only a few short months.

ed what are your veiws on the new owners so far?
do you agree with any of the above?

matt 27

{Editor Note: I think the owners have been good. They've dealt with everything in a totally professional way unlike the previous two and they haven't promised a whole list of things and money, suggesting their actions will speak for them. Everything is kept private which is the Liverpool way. People who are bashing them now for absolutly no reason are just fickle and childish.}

Liverpool Rumours
Liverpool's director of football strategy, Damien Comolli, insists Kenny Dalglish will have authority over the club's transfer plans during his time as manager.

Dalglish, who returned to the club following the departure of Roy Hodgson on Saturday, is set to take charge of Liverpool until the summer in a bid to get their season back on track.

The owners brought Comolli in to help shape the club's transfer strategy and, although Dalglish appears to be a short-term appointment, he will have the final say over any new arrivals this month.

"I think it is great for the club and from a personal point of view because the short time I've been here I have exchanged ideas with Kenny on the academy side, " he said. "We have spoken about how we will work and we have been talking all the time and exchanging ideas.

"As I have always said, if Kenny is not happy with a player we think could make the team better, or if he thinks it is not the right timing, it will always be down to the manager to say he is not happy.

"We haven't even had a chance to discuss the transfer window with Kenny because of everything that has happened.

"We have been working on it [a transfers list] with Roy and the owners and I need to update Kenny on what has been going on, but I don't know if there will be any activity because it is a very complicated market and we have to be very careful what we do."

Dalglish does not expect the owners to interfere with the recruitment process.

"I am sure the owners have an opinion about the football club, they own it so they are entitled to, but that is why they put Damien in his position and me in mine, " Dalglish said. "They will leave it in our hands as to whether we need players or not."

Ed>>>> Are we to take this statement as a way of letting us all know politly that there will be no signings this window do you think?

{Editor Note: I don't know, it is clear we need players. Hodgson before talked about bringing players in and working with Comolli, so I would assume that Kenny coming in wouldn't change anything at all. I would just take it as a sign that things will happen very discretly.}

Is it true the owners didn't care about the on pitch performances. He had a problem with the poor ticket sales. The Wolves game, 35'000 Att, and blackburn away no one picked up the tickets.

The owners are all about the money.

{Editor Note: I'm sure that was a concern, if they plan to make Liverpool profitable in the future. The main concern was the anger of the fans mainly directed at Hodgson. But whoever said that the owners don't care about the on field performances is stupid. The on field performances matter if they are in it for money. But I firmly believe they aren't money-grabbers like the previous two.}

Also, NESV likes listening to the fans so maybe some one reads this website and keep us faithful followers truly informed. So obvious, as unlike some of us MACCA only comes us with true facts and a day or 2 earlier before it is too be executed."

". . . Dalglish is going to create issues in the future.
Those of us old enough to see the damage caused by Busby at manure who just wouldn't give the club and his presence created all sorts of issues, the same way Shanks' presence did with Sir Bob.
I'm wondering whether the new chap in the summer will have the same issues with Dalglish sat in the stands, knowing that if it starts to go tits up a la Hodgson, the fans will soon be chanting 'Dalglishhhhhhhh'?
Dalglish's appointment has nothing but short term gains for me and nothing long term and that worries me.
Bob the Red

Its a very good point and one that I raised a couple of weeks ago when I was pondering reasons why NESV did not rush to sack Mr H and replace him with the King . .
Now that they did it, I would guess the only way to avoid the situation you are suggesting is by making sure the next appointment is that of a reputable young manager who can grow with the team, of course us fans will need to give him time, and to be fair to most of Liverpool fans we are patient , with Roy it was obvious from the first few games things were going from bad to very bad , and his record did not help.

For me seeing/ hearing Dalglish saying f* *ing hell and being irate with every decision that went against us, gave me great pleasure and assured me the team is in good hands for the next few months.

{Editor Note: I would take the first two but not Coentrao if we were going to use him as a left-back - his defending is as bad as Johnson's.}

I agree here. I would just like a back 4 that offered very little offensive but made us very solid defensively. With Kelly, Agger and Auerlio back into our defense we look far more solid.

Also I don't see why we haven't considered Mata. With only 18 months on his contract we should get him now before other teams that can offer cl football get him. Perfect left winger. Valencia also in 500 million debt so they would need the money. This is why we're slow. We identify world class players available for cheap and another team gets it. That's what Lavers means. When there's a good deal out there, we never seen to be the one who gets it because we'll to slow.

no they don't have to comply with the rule i checked it out on uefas web, and it says phased implementation for 2010, 2011, 2012 seasons meaning its being phased in slowly so its not fully implemented untill 2013/ 14 season so clubs can easily spend more than they make in profit, and buy expensive players if they want even if they r making a loss, once the 2013 season begins then it will be fully implemented and then teams will have to comply but for now teams r only being encouraged to comply untill its properly in place

{Editor Note: Before then if we spend a lot more than we make before the review stage = no profit which means we haven't complied. John W.Henry even spoke about the need to comply with the rules.}

Personally i don't think we need to sign anyone, well not till summer anyway. The team we have could easily get champions league football if they pull together as a team and work hard as individual players, king kenny will bring this out of the players and we will start to function like a team again.

So believe= spend in january

Unbelieve= wait until summer and see how things have the team is functioning at that point

Clarke has been waiting for a manager's job by all accounts and I think NESV have agreed to let the king groom his successor. I expect kenny to have a three to four year stint and then hand over to clarke. . I think this is a very shrewd/ brilliant move IMO.
We are moving in the right direction. . thank god

We need a left- back and i personally think Aly Cissokho would be the best option as he can actually defend, other than Coentrao. He's 23 years old and from what ive seen, he looks a good player. Currently at Gueugnon, he would be a relatively cheap (around £5m-£6m) transfer and would relish a move to a club like liverpool.

Any thoughts, Ed?

I see both your points but I still think we could have targeted players a little earlier. Like Honda, if we were after him we should of signed him asap. Maybe we're not after him but I do feel we are a little slow in the transfer market. This will also be city's last chance to spend big before the FFPR come into play so they would be willing to spend that extra buck.

30 years I've supported this club. I've watched manager after manager buy rubbish squad players and I'm bored senseless with it. All I ask of Dalglish is that he returns to the Liverpool ethos of buying two or three players every season who will take the place of those in the current first team. And I'd also hope that he looks at those in the reserves to step up. Those displaced can join the squad, come in and take their chance when others are injured or be sold. So, in this window, were I to have a magic wand, I'd look to fill/ change these first team places (based on Sunday's selection):

Maxi: Pablo Hernandez
Skrtel: Danny Wilson or Ryan Shawcross
Aurelio: Fabio Coentraeo6
Kuyt: Daniel Pacheco

And in the summer:
Lucas - Ever Banega
Meireles: Keisuke Honda
Plus one striker: take your pick, but give the reserves a chance

Which, I think, give you this line-up:

Reina
Kelly: Wilson: Agger: Coentraeo
Hernandez: Gerrard: Banega: Honda
Pacheco: Torres

And I'd be happy with that. Pick your own bench.

I know city have the funds but they paid what 27million for dzecko and that's probably around about what he is actually worth. I know on a lot of there buys they have probably paid double there actual value in order to get them but not this time. So there is nothing stopping us getting players if need be.

LAVERS

{Editor Note: Yes there is - we don't have unlimited funds and unlimited resoures to hand players in wages, on top of a signing on fee and an agent fee. Having the amount of money that City have makes it extremly easy for them to buy in a difficult market. I'm sure we're working hard on getting one or two in.}

Evening ed. . . Can I ask you a question. . . Everyone is saying that Martin Kelly should be given a game at right back. . (I do agree he should keep his place). . but is he not a centre half? Why don't we bin skertel, play johnson at right back and move kelly into the centre half position?
Just want yours and everyone else's opinion on this one. .
Also is'nt it nice to see a manager backing his players to the hilt. .
p.s babel should start the next game for the tweet alone!
jonnybarnes89-90

{Editor Note: Yes he's naturally a centre-back. But every time he plays at right-back he performs and defending wise he's far better than Johnson. If I was manager I'd have Kelly ahead of Johnson every week)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.

Its hard when you are 'blooding' a young centre half in the EPL. Its best to 'blood' them in a full back position until they are more aware of requirements of the EPL. Remember Carra when he satrted in the 1st team? Right back and centre mid before he went Centre Half. Also gives him time to 'beef up' a bit.

Never really like to let myself get carried away with things and whilst happy (if you could ever call it that) that Hodgson is no longer in charge there is a part of me all day today wondering whether the re-appointment of Dalglish is going to create issues in the future.

Ed. . about the fair play laws that are coming in. . . I have heard that all clubs would have a two year period for them to adjust to the ruling. . . giving them breathing space and also that they will only be fined the first time they breach the law and then fined again for any second breach after the 2 yr adjustment period. . in theory then. . man city could have 5 yrs before they are in potential danger of being thrown out of europe for not living within their means. . Am I wrong?

totally agree with that ed. . but Johnson is the england right back. . I do question his defensive ability , however, if kelly is performing so well out of position then imagine how he would perform at centre half. . I also think that if we played kelly in his proper position (coz lets face it skertel is not up to it long term) then we could play johnson and add another creative player further forward because that is what we are lacking. . . what do ya think?

{Editor Note: It doesn't really bother me if he is the England right-back mate, I certainly wouldn't be obliged to play him because of that if he wasn't performing. He is awful at defending and his attitude stinks. I wouldn't play him there at all.}

{Editor Note: Any time I've seen him in the CL he's looked distinctly average at the back, only getting credit for his offensive ability. I certainly hope we don't waste £20m+ on a "defender" who can't defend. For the left-wing, fair enough but for left-back, no, in my opinion.}

There is no way kenny is gonna go in the summer without a fight to keep the job, and quite honestly if he does well then i see no reason why the board would set out to replace him. comolli has said kenny is on the shortlist, and unless results are poor then he will keep the job im sure, the players won't want the change again, and could prove to a negative effect on the likes of the senior players, who want to see the club going forward with a stable foundation. and four managers in 12 months would be far from stable.
as far as nesv are concerned, they want good results and packed stadiums, as long as that happens then they won't want to risk losing the fans support, who would be devastasted if kenny was removed in the summer.
all this is hypothectical of course, and depends on how kenny does,
but there was more passion, more effort and more desire from one team talk yesterday than 6 months of roy hodgson, who was freefalling the club in to mediocracy!

Do you think Gianfranco zola would fit in at anfield.

I like him as a person. He a nice person. Im sure the fans will like his attacking style of play. Gianfranco Also is able to attract players. People want to be managed by a legend in the game.

damien comolli liverpool will be looking after the youth and transfer policy.

So we need a manager who like to play good football. And is a famous name in the game who players respect. A Good guy in the game could be what liverpool need.

I would like to see the team play more attacking football with a smile on face. i know kenny is back in charge, but he is meant to sit in the boardroom.

I know alot of you fancy name, but having someone who has already played and managed in the premiership would be better.

i think Zola would be a manager players would trust. Gerrard already runs the dressing room. So who ever comes in to the club will have to find a way to manage Gerrards Ego.

I have a feeling 90% managers would have a problem with gerrards influence in the club

Once again we have proof that NESV are acting, and quickly. Dalglish arrives, mentions Steve to Comolli - boom - he reports for work the next day. Give them time and be patient, I am confident there will be talks on going with players now, worthwhile players, not fulham players (no offence fulham fans, but we are LFC.)

Let's please get behind them and indeed the team fully now. Things are changing significantly for the better. Oh and get ready to see Torres hitting form again, and soon. I predict KK will be a catalyst to this, alongside a change to playing proper football again (as I said weeks ago).

I think if KK stays, there will be huge signings in the summer too. In the mean time though, patience is key, I am no longer worried.

Evening ed. .

{Editor Note: Yes he's naturally a centre-back. But every time he plays at right-back he performs and defending wise he's far better than Johnson. If I was manager I'd have Kelly ahead of Johnson every week.}

100% confirmed. . owen coyle takes over in june
its true im genuine
kenny has sorted this move and he will still have involvement in the boot room which kenny is gonna set up again
you heard it hear first my friends
. . . . . . . . . . . . .

No choice has yet been made. Dalglish is on a trial and should he do well then may get the job. There is a list of candidates and Kenny Dalglish is on that list.
I don't think the owners/ board will consider anyone for atleast 1/ 2 months. This will see the direction Kenny is going and the fans reaction. No manager has yet been confirmed and I bet Ed agrees with me

Lets get real lfc was a great club in the 70's and 80's. we are an average team now and can't compete on signing any world class player. The last was torres and there wouldn't be any in a long time to come. The window will close in two weeks without any players leaving. We have to clear house and cash in on dead wood before the summer. This may mean not qualifying for CL and uefa. Can we ever turn the tables over NO CHANCE.
Expect only avaerage players coming our way in the summer nothing this window period for sure.

One third way through the tranafer window we have had no activity what so ever. The word is that this is a complicated market. i am beginning to think that they will be no new players. i am afraid that we are going backward faster and faster and catching up with the elite will only be a dream in our life time. Sad very sad but the reality is that we have no vision or ideas anymore. every club official comes and says what they like and contradict each other on the transfers. The rumours have been on the air for months now yet we haven't seen a single player come or go. We shall be left with dead wood the signs of a dead club. Poor poor state of affairs god help us.

{Editor Note: Give them time. Clubs don't want to sell in January and if they have to prices will be a lot higher than usual. It is a very difficult market. And you have to remember that we have to comply with the financial fair play rules, so we can't be paying over the odds for players.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Ed Diaby, Nasri and Arshavin were all brought in in January. . . .

the last time we brought in a world class player was in 2007. . . .that was torres. . .goodness me that was 4 years back. . .

this is their first transfer window. . . at least they can ship people out or get a loan arrangment or two if they don't want to buy. . . .

So Ryan gets charged by the F.A. with "improper conduct", surely the F.A (being as they are so on top of things) should charge Webb with "gross incompetency"?

. .oh how foolish of me, he was merely following orders, and the latest F.A directive (as decreed by Old Blue Nose himself) . . .

Given Liverpool's "diabolical" treatment of my mate Roy, who had previously agreed to give me an easy time of it in our F.A Cup game, and on the back of the appointment of my old foe Dalglish, all officials for the Third Round Cup tie at the Theatre of Tossers, shall go out of their way to award us (Scum) every favourable decision, irrespective of how blantant it might appear.

. . many thanks your inglorious "stealth" leader - Old Blue Nose, (all Scotch donations gladly welcomed).

To the person who posed this:
Bosman player this Summer:

Rakitic
Bosignwa
Taiwo
Bobo (besiktas)
Andre Pirlo
Philippe Mexes
Mahamadou Diarra
M. Klose
S. Marveaux

if this is true it could reform our squad. for me id take bosingwa, taiwo and mexes. that would preety much sort out defence out. for midfiled id take diaara (dm), mareaux (lm) rakitic (CAM) and klose (st). this would really beef up our squad and would allow money to be spent on a striker and a quality winger, if not 2

Feeling confused why do people keep posting saying NESV's approach is out of the limelight, they like to keep things under wraps with transfers like the Raul Meireles deal. . . ?
From what I remember we signed him roughly the 29th of August, where as the second coming of Yanks finalised the takeover mid October?
I'm I missing something or do people not really follow the in goings of the club. .

I'm working at TV2 in Norway which is a Norwegian Sport Magazine. Sometimes we have some English guest and among them we had Bruce Grobelar today. SO I had a chat with him before making the sport news. I have not allowed to say this but what the heck. He told me that Liverpool are working hard to secure Luis Suarez, Coentrao and Keisuke Honda. He also said that if the deals are going as planed, we will get those players in Saturday, (Suarez) Monday (Coentrao) and Tuesday (Honda) I'm very excited and so was Grobelar, and lets hope that they are coming. Maybe you know who I'm. I am Øyvind Alsaker former Southampton and Cardiff leftback.I hope you take this serious. And I'm also a huge Liverpool fan.

Totally agree , i just listened to paul dalglish on talksport and he said about the liverpool way when we use to sign a player and you wouldn't hear nothing about it until they had signed so perhaps that is what is going to happen in this window , even thought the more players were linked with the more chance the press just might get one right , but i really hope what comolli said today was a smokescreen because we need to sign players in this window and he didn't convince me that we were going too but i know he AINT going to come out and say " were gonna buy 5 players "

lets keep our fingers crossed and hopefully we will sign some decent players , its been 10 days so far and the suspense is killing me , please liverpool sign someone!

ed would you say nesv seem like the type that want to restore the liverpool way and keep the transfers under wraps until they have signed? is that why we arent getting any real info or clues on who we are going to sign?

DLG

{editor: I think that they have researched how succesful we used to be and are trying to recreate some of the things that helped us. Also I think the owners are trying to look at other succesful clubs and bring in ideas from them, I know they are fans of how Arsenal is run.}

Ed, what are your views on Antoine Griezmann? only 19 years old and already a very good player, he can play left wing or striker. £7m, would be a good signing im my opinion and a good partner for torres. However i do think we should give Pacheco a chance and some of the other youngsters. Look at Kelly, give him a chance, a very good player emerges. {ed's note - I do like the look of Greizmann, looks to have a big future ahead of him. The Press needs to be handled by the club and not the players. Views expressed reflect on the whole team, area and club.

I have just read today (in a newspaper so I know it probably isn't the most reliable source) that the best we can hope for in this transfer window is a couple of loan deals do u think there is any truth in that? Also if we do go for santon and get him I think we should put kelly in at cb which is his natural position because he's been playing consistantly good at right back so I think he'd play even better at cb which we are in desperate need to improve on with the absence of carragher skrtel just doesn't cut it

I liked the way Comiolli conducted himself in the present conference, he showed that he was behind what the manager wanted, that he has good knowledge of the way Liverpool should be playing, how the wants to strengthen and what he thinks a new manager should be.
I believe he will bring in 2-3 players mainly a striker, left-back and maybe a defensive midfielder.

What do you think of juan mata from Valencia?
Rumour has it that we are supposed to be signing him for £10m + babel this janurary. Valencia are apparently (according to thier president) £500m in debt so desperately in need of the money.

I think it would be a good signing as he scored 14 goals last year in the league and got the 2nd most assists, just behind Xavi, so he would be great at feeding Torres and possibly Suarez if we sign him.

Ed, I can't remember the January window being so quiet at this stage for all EPL clubs..

At best in our case I hope what would now happen is that Kenny and Commoli would have a meeting tonight / tomorrow to discuss which players they both have eyes for. Then Wednesday and Thursday would be spent by Kenny analysing the scout reports in detail to decide which (if any) of the players eyed are worthy of wearing the red shirt.

Thursday afternoon a meeting with the transfer committee (Tom, John, Kenny and Comolli) would be called at 4pm GMT (about 10am US) to decide upon which targets to make initial offers for, by the end of this meeting the January targets would be identified.

Friday morning faxes are sent to the chairman / managers of the identified targets clubs with initial offers made together with a request for permission to speak to their players.

Presuming things move this quickly, we shouldn't expect any news of any real contact until next week - do you not agree?

{Editor's Note: I am afraid it does not really work like that. There will already be efforts being made on individual players. But don't expect too much. As an aside there is 5 hours between Boston and the UK.}

I can see one going, but not both. It's expensive to pay the wages for 2 world class strikers, but only to play one of them at a time, which I think is how they'd do it. Let alone the initial cost of the transfer.

I am an avid Liverpool supporter from Malta and have been following our beloved team for 35 years. First of all I would like to apologise if my writing is not up to standard.This is my first post on this page which I find very entertaining seeing the variety of rumours posted in it. IMO, one of the suggestions already made on this site, that of playing Johnson as winger makes sense. He is hopeless at defending (see Blackburn match for example) yet he is very good at attacking on the right. If this works out we would be saving money on a right winger and use it on a good striker. Also I hate to see people giving Torres stick for not trying hard enough. I believe that El Nino is one of the best strikers available, but he still needs support from his team mates as he cannot beat the opposing team by himself. Ed keep up the good work and please can you tell me if there is any substance to the rumour of Suarez to Liverpool and what you think about this possible transfer.

{Editor's Note: There is nothing confirmed on Suarez. I personally do not see him as the solution.}

Oh dear back in from School then, had a busy day dear. The rest of the Premiership are laughing at us blob 'ed. United didn't get out of first gear and we didn't create a thing either before or after Stevie's lunge, it's you who should get real and do your homework for tomorrow; as teacher may get annoyed with you for writing in capitals; dead impressed.

What did united create, a good header from a corner? A cross which should of been blocked and serious of good saves from the keeper. We were better then united with 11 men, even though the ref was defiantly in their favor. If Kelly played that easy ball back to Meireles he was having a free shot from 6 yard box Liverpool. Also that game showed we badly need a proper winger. Also whenever we got into decent positions the players just took a long shot, which was stupid. Also quite a few of our players had off days, Meireles (i believe he still has a knock), Kuyt (been awful all season, sell sell sell), Maxi (didn't have great game and he offers less width then Kuyt). What do you expect our players to do, storm them 4 0 without Gerrard?

Defensive we were solid.

ppl r always saying oh united r winning and there not at there best yet, , how do they not know whether this is there best they can do its just other teams who r not performing to there best

Out of all the possible wingers we are being linked with though, i think johnson would be just as good as most and it allows to kill two birds with one stone , a new winger and rb (kelly)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Yeah, I'm with you there mate.
I'd personally like to see Johnson stay. He's good enough to play a more advanced role on right side.
And then concentrate funds to get top left winger and striker in !
U having that Ed ?
KB

{Editor Note: Johnson is poor at defending which is clear for all to see. He should be given a go on the right-wing but I wouldn't be bothered if he left. He has a poor attitude and is said to be unpopular within the squad.}

Assuming we cannot solve this problem by buying quality players in the January window, undoubtedly we would have much better balance with Martin Kelly at RB (MUCH better defender) Johnson at RW and move Kuyt up top with Torres to improve the attacking options. However given that Johnson is England's first choice RB would he refuse to move up the pitch and jeopardise his international career? Under Woy I have no doubt that he probably already HAS refused to play as a winger! Under King Kenny I doubt he would dare to refuse but if he did just get rid as he is no use whatsoever as a defender!

No, you're right Bob, it is just a smokescreen.
Comoli is actually ringing round all of the teams in Europe and the Premier League telling them who we are looking at and what prices we will be bidding.
It's the usual thing Bob in this sort of business. You shout out loudly about what you're doing in the hope you frighten everyone off.
Damien Comoli will ensure that in targeting Honda and Suarez, Lukuka and a few other players, everyone knows what we are doing. The good thing is that will probably push up the prices and give us a fair chance of losing the players.
It's what happens Bob.
Glad you asked that very sensible question!

Hey Ed, great site. Why have we not signed anybody yet? Loads of rumors nothing happening. Well maybe behind the scenes.it's good nothing's coming out anymore, frustrating as well. All us want to be managers lol, think we know what we need but any news on possible transfers. My list we could not afford. I say why not to crouchy back Torres enjoyed playing with him. And wait till summer to buy big named striker. Let's just play suso Pacheco etc and see how good they really are. If not buy big in summer when/ if new manager comes in. Get aqua back outstanding in Italy, if he don't like it tough. End of the day we own him not juva. Keep up great work {ed's note - it is not easy to get players to change clubs in January, the likes of Wolfswinkle want to go to Italy and have to be persuaded England is better. Teams that are challenging don't want to let their players go, so you either pay through the nose or forget them. I am sure there will be signings, we are certainly trying to get some.}

Any other rumour that does come true is down to chance. You make up enough s* te sooner or later something is going to be true - like a monkey playing darts it'll hit the board eventually.

If you don't like the site nobodies forcing you to read it.

Don't get me wrong the banter page is good, you get to defend the good name of LFC against the legions of idiots out there - the rumour page is a joke and has been since the site was split into individual teams. Without the reality check of other teams' supporters it has become fantasy land.

The sad thing about the site is that since I've been reading it any illusions I had about LFC fans being a cut above the rest have been shattered. The ones I meet in the street seem pretty clued up, but on here you read some shocking stuff - beyond stupid.

I can't believe what's happening to our club, its full of hasbeens, who are well passed there sell by date. KK is only 4 years younger than Roy and hasn't done anything for over 10 years. These two clowns are obvious Mancs in disguise. No Liverpool fan on the face of this earth wants those chaps back in the club in any way, shape or form.
As for saying Kenny has been out of the business for 10 years, what difference does it make? He's been involved in football in some way in the past decade and the only difference between now and then is bigger egos. Anyone who challenges Kenny would be sold immediately, like Riera and Rafa, not like weak-minded Woy who would just take the player off his Christmas card list.

Re Negredo rumours over the weekend:

Saturday, January 8, 2011 22:20
Sevilla FC - News
Negredo says he knows nothing of Liverpool

In the last hours in England has arisen a rumor of a possible interest from Liverpool's about Alvaro Negredo, the great hero of Sevilla's victory in Anoeta with Kanoute. The Spaniard has been limited to say about that "I read some of Liverpool, but my agent has not told me anything. I'm happy at Sevilla and I know nothing about it. Now I only care about Sevilla" he said. And in relation to the clash against Real, he said, "It was a major victory. Have been put ahead twice and we have overcome. We have had failures defensive team and that can not be repeated because it's hard to trace. The team is progress. We're three from three in 2011 and should know how to react. You always have to improve things.

{Editor Note: Sometimes we have people posting claiming to be Macca, but the editors stopped that so now people are posting claiming that Macca has said something when he hasn't. But he did say Hodgson would be gone before the Man Utd game and people slaughtered him for it, and he was infact correct}

At the start everyone was thinking the same. But when Roy made his prematch conference (kinda) then people started to slaughter him. He stayed by his guns and was proven right. That's why I trust him for the time being. Maybe Ian rush will take over for Sammy lee? Or maybe he changed his mind when he found out Steve Clarke was available? Anything can change in football. If he's right about Suarez then I'll believe him and stick up for him. Would like macca to make an update to get all the facts sorted out about who said who.

I can't understand it. I have been at Melwood every day this week and last and yet none of the players have even bothered to stop and talk to me about the way we are heading.
Lucas and Babel did stop and signed the back of my Giro last Thursday, but what is wrong with these people?
They are no different to me and the rest of the people outside the gates?
I have trouble walking because of my leg injury and have to park my Audi S3 so far away. You would think the club would provide spaces for us to park near the place.
Dan Agger is one of the best as he always blares his horn as he reaches the gates so you get notice of him coming in and you don't get run over.
But who do they think they are?
On Saturday night I saw Bastien Schwinestiger's agent with Tom Werner sitting in his Mondeo just near the entrance. He didn't even acknowledge me or the others when we shouted hello to him.
Who do these people think they are?
At least this morning Luis Suarez lifted the veil on his burkha to wave at us!

I would like to see Honda come in and play on the Left, (good delivery, corners' free kicks ect as well as the commercial benefits) possibly the reason Kenny was in Dubai with Honda playing next door in Qatar.

the Right wing i would make do with Kuyt possible try johnson there till the summer. don't want to buy to many players now to rock the boat.

I would like to see Gary Cahill, but we will prob go abroad for a centre Half. Cant go to wrong with a German tho.

Desperate for a Forward, Torres does need a partner to shoulder the responsability and goal tally. ideally Saurez. but would be happy with Lukaka.

Firstly read this site everyday, and love all the speculation surrounding transfer etc. (I can only imagine how stressful life as an Editor has been this past year - you guys need some well deserved time off).

Secondly welcome back to Kenny Dalglish who in my opinion is the only person who at this stage has the passion and love for the club that he won't allow, accept or tolerate failure or lack of effort, but also the only person big enough to instantly command respect from the bigger names like stevie and carra. . and get the rest proud to wear the red shirt again. The blokes a legend who is loved and respected by every fan and player at the club. We had the talent all we needed was someone to kick the players in the ass a bit. I hope he brings back some attacking football. GOOD LUCK AND LONG LIVE THE KING! also just a thought, if kenny does well come end of the season, let him keep it. . to me a liverpool manager is someone that loves the club like his own child. . King Kenny eats, sleeps, breaths and s* ts LFC.

As for transfers I think 4 decent signings this season will see us transformed.

Coentrao - 10m
Honda - 12m
Turan - 12m
Suarez - 20m

Would love to see this starting 11 come feb and the fear in the eyes of every team we play.

Reina

Kelly - Skrtel - Agger - Coentrao

Turan - Meireles - Gerrard - Honda

Torres - Suarez

would appreciate thoughs on the Dalglish comments and team if anyone has any - Eds included obviously but understand you guys must be stacked with requested so don't worry to much.

Slightly belated but HAPPY NEW YEARS TO YOU ALL AS WELL.

happens I fear that Torres, Reina and possibly
Gerrard will seek pastures new,

Buy:

Lukaka
Suarez
P Hernandez

Sell:
The Greek
Konchesky
Poultis

I believe KK can get the best out of Babel
and after what I have saw of Kelly worth giving
him a shout at right back and pushing Johnson
forward. If players like Pacheco, Wilson etc are nit going to feature then surely it would be beneficial to put
them out on short term loans.
KK should try and get Sami Hypia back in player/ coach role and Ian Rush in to work with strikers.

Regarding kennys appointment.
do we not think that him being appointed until the end of the season, is a form of protection for him?
if you look at it like this, if and only if the rest of the season goes pear shaped, at least at the end everyone can say thanks for trying in difficult circumstances and kenny can easily resume his previous role and stay with the club!
but if he turns this season around, and the stress doesn't get to him, i'm not so sure that nesv would want to replace him in the role, and i am also sure that they would give him a contract option at the end of the season, his choice either way! after all why would nesv seek to replace such a popular manager if he is successful? why destroy a good foundation if it is secure?
as for new signings, between damien and kenny they have got a good idea who they want and require, and i think we will get who is needed to rescue the season, remember it's not about a transfer kitty, its about what represents the club as good value for money and what is best to take us forward!

"How long have you been on the site?
What about the rumors regarding Hodgson being sacked before the united game?"

You mean the rumour about Hodgson being sacked before the united game that had been openly discussed in every newspaper for a week. Well done you really have got good sources - 20p down the newsagent.

Any other rumour that does come true is down to chance. You make up enough s* te sooner or later something is going to be true - like a monkey playing darts it'll hit the board eventually.

Lets hope King Kenny shows Torres how to use his arse/ strength (call it what you like) to shield the ball and bring others into play. Torres has been absolutely hopeless at this 'bread and butter' part of forward's play so if el nino can sort this part of his game out and learn to give 100% in every match we could be going places.

Banel Babel whats it matter, im delighted he did it. Every time a ref makes a kock up in a manure game it is brushed aside very quickly by the Sky t* ts. If Torres had fallen over and got a pen Tyler, Gray and company wud hav had a monday night special on diving. Webb let him get away with it. It happens alot when the syum play. I am sick of it cos Sky make them out to be aristocrats of the game. Neville, fletcher, vidiv, evra and ferditand get away every week without getting booked for vicious tackles and nani and berbatoss dive every week but i never hear about it on sky. When we scored the " controversial unsporting " goal against sunderland this season it was on the whole week. At least Babel speaking out draws more attention to mancs cheating otherwise we would hear nothing of it as per.

I wish we as a club can move forward and to stop living in the past. KK was great in his day, but his best is behind him. I can't believe what's happening to our club, its full of hasbeens, who are well passed there sell by date. KK is only 4 years younger than Roy and hasn't done anything for over 10 years. I now know that the Red Sox mob know less about soccer than G&H did. God help us! !

I know that the people involved with LFC are experienced coaches so who am I to question them, but just this once I'd like to see them take a chance and pay Suso. Wenger did it with Fabregas when he saw his potentional, Everton did it with Rooney. .we even did it before with Owen. So, I'd love him to be thrown in while Gerrard, Torres & Carragher are still around. He's good enough.

Would love to see Shelvey start blackpool game if stevie is out. Would also like to see Poulsen dropped from bench and another young player on the brink brought in be it Suso or Pachecho. I think we may see one or two surprises in the squad over next few weeks as Kenny may have seen something in some youth players that might have impressed him in last few months. Wouldnt rule out a shock signing of a veteran prem player either just to add calm to some of the players. On the centre back situation, why do we need anyone new when Ayala has been class for Hull this year and KK is apparantly big fan of Wilson. Agger and Carra will be tops again by the end of the season and either of the young lads to cover for this and next season.

Ridiculous talk of carragher being to old to play. he is turning 33 in a couple of weeks. 33! paolo maldini played at the top level until he was 40. carragher is still brilliant, hes just having a bad spell, yet he still gives 110% every game, just needs to be dropped down the pecking order i think, used for cup games and back up to agger (imminent injury), but he shouldn't hang his boots up just yet. best defender in last 10 years.

There is far too much worry and panic about who we'll buy and what we need. Relax boys. Kenny dalglish is back! There are very few people in football who I will not question and trust unconditionally. Kenny is one of them. Our performance yesterday was nothing special, but there was more fight and effort shown than in all the previous games combined. This is the effect he has. He commands respect. He knows what it takes to win as a player and manager. He knows what we are lacking and he rarely makes bad signings. I hope he stays as long as he wants and I know that come the start of next season we will all be more optimistic than we have been in years and it will be because of the king!

* * * * * * * *
Right, so Meireles fair enough did not play very well, but, Shelvey was terrible. He waisted a free kick, trying to lob Kuszack who wasnt even off his line, could not get the ball under control or pass very well. The best he did was to put United under pressure. He is young and i think he will develop well, but i think he struggled yesterday.
My man of the match was Kelly, and after that Lucas. He was shattered after the game, due to the fact that after Gerrard got sent off he basically ran our midfield alone, and did a decent job.

does nesv have money to spend in the transfer windows?

i am a lfc fan and its been ages we won a title, i can imagine how gerrard a carragher is feeling when we cannot get good players in, have kenny permantey. maybe they will leave.

Ed, do you think now that Roy is gone and Kenny is in, the players who were contemplating a move away are now re-considering? Also, do you think us playing s* * was down to the players not respecting Roy as much as them not putting the effort it?

DownUnderRed {ed's note - yes to the first bit, the players want to find out if they are in Kenny's plans, no one is actively seeking a move if they are going to play in January. Once they have spoken to him they will make a decision then, we don't have any Winston Bogarde's who just want to sit at home collecting wages, they all want to play first team football. Also yes to the other point, none of them liked Roy's tactics, some just knuckled down and got on with it, but a lot switched off.}

Liverpool transfer news, rumours and speculation
All the latest on Liverpool transfers for the January window 2011 - news, rumours and done deals from Anfield.Kenny Dalglish is hoping to bring new players to Anfield (Pic: PA) Kenny Dalglish is hoping to bring new players to Anfield (Pic: PA)

Roy Hodgson says this Liverpool team cannot be considered 'his' yet, so expect some movement in January.

Woy is hopeful of keeping hold of star men Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres, as well as adding to his squad with a few more up-and-coming stars.

New club owners NESV are keen to move away from handing big contracts to older players - a la flop Robbie Keane and big-time summer signing Joe Cole, who's been hugely underwhelming.

So expect a few lesser-known names in at Anfield - although don't be surprised if the former Fulham manager gets the go-ahead for one or two other stars to bolster his squad too.

THIS WAS ON THE METRO WEBSTIE AND THEY CALLED ROY. .WOY DISGRACEFUL!

We don't have the ability anymore to go out there buy the best with our eyes closed and keep the team constantly evolving. Hansen was right this is the most important period in our history since Shanks transformed the club, the challenges facing the manager and owners are unprecedented in our history and it is vital decisions are made with a cool head and controlled emotion, otherwise we could slide down the same slope as Leeds. As fans we must get behind the team and we must be PATIENT.
This is not an overnight fix and despite his unpopularity, poor Roy never stood a chance because i don't think he ever understood or bought into the culture of the club or the passion of the fans - he was a rabbit caught in the headlights, and the way the boys performed over the last 29 games showed that. Now that Kenny is back, hopefully he can inspire the players we already have (the vast majority who are internationals and don't beome bad players overnight) and he can begin the process of rebuilding the team without resorting to rash decisions in the transfer market. At the same time the new owners must be given time to rebuild the infrastructure of the club and we must display a level of trust that they have the best interests of the club at heart, this will be proved mainly in the summer transfer window and with any forthcoming announcement about Anfield or a New Stadium.
Remember, we are walking through a storm so hold your heads up high! !
P.S. what has happened at LFC (with all the debt and the rest of the BS we have had to put up with from Hicks and Gilette) is just a precursor to what will happen at MANURE and CHELSKI and MAN CITY.I will REALLY enjoy the fans of those clubs squirming when the time comes- * * 'em! ! !

Great appointing steve clarke as 1st team coach. at least our back line will be sorted out. with the attacking nature of kenny's style of management and clarke's defensive coaching, we could see a massive change in fortunes over the rest of the season, with a near perfect balance of football being played

He does have an aura about him, like Kenny he commands instant respect from the players. It was a spirited performance yeaterday, and great to see King Kenny back in the dugout, in our pub we all bowed as he walked out with team!
One of the most encouraging moments was bringing on Babel, Ngog and Shelvey, and showing intent to still go after the the game. Thats what we've only ever wanted, spirit, heart and intent. The rest will hopefully follow.
If you had watch the reserves or Academy games on LFCTV over the last couple of seasons you will have seen Kenny there on a regular basis. He has a
complete insight in to what availale to him. The sustitution of Nando was spot on, its up to him now to prove to Kenny that he wants it.

All the top class players are going to be available in the summer and most of them will want CL. Unfortunately we have fallen so far behind that non of them would want to move to us even if we offered the extras. Therefore we need to get positional players to better our standing at the end of the season. Investing in youngesters will help on the long run but getting up the table is a definite. Right now we need to get the players early and get some point on the board. Hazard will not come he is interested in Arsenal and real madrid, question is will they really play him at real. many players have gone there and claimed dream move only to be disappointed and sitting on the bench. Young exciting talent should play regular football at lesser clubs and move at 24 years and above to raputable clubs and not late teens and early twenties.

So, it is Steve Clarke. This is a good move by Liverpool. Another step in the right derection, very well respected coach which would look very good to potential transfer targets. He would no doubt help to sort the defence out too. Good times on the horizon.
Lifelong red

Steve Clarks last job was at West Ham, they almost got relegated while he was there, and was moved on quickly after that. Even Chelsea got rid of him. Is that the pedigree we want chum, he'll make a real dog's dinner of it; I think its nothing more than a wind up.

(. . . . . fill in name of young players on this line)

Football is a business and like a business, you need to play your cards close to your chest.
The issues in football are all about players and so 'behind the scenes work' becomes a necessity that often fails to work.

The agreement to sign a player is based on the club, its attractiveness to the player, its credibility, its fanbase, ground, history, financial muscle and agents.

We are chasing the above players - but so are most of Europe's top clubs. These days it is never about behind the scenes work, despite what we read in the media. How can Comoli make quiet approaches to sign Lukaku when the web is full of his image, pace, power, scoring exploits and availability? Comoli is swimming in a pool infested with 100 other such creatures!

I have read on here recently that we are apparently "an average club with a massive history." That seems a fair summation of where we now are. Lawrie Sanchez and a few other pundits have suggested this and been castigated for it. It strikes me that they are not that far off the current mark. This is a major issue in trying to attract new players.

In trying to attract Honda, we are now battling it out with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich: we have to be able to convince him that our prospects are brighter than with Madrid. Can that be possible? Herein lies the issue for Comoli and his team. How does he tempt the cream of European young talent to Anfield?

Our own Chris Mavinga is a good point in this argument. An excellent French defender who feels isolated from the chances made available to other people of his age at other clubs. He has expressed a desire to leave - despite being named French U19 Player of the Year (I think that is correct?) and highly admired by Houliier and Wenger.
Pacheco - highly rated by a majority of those who watched him in the reserves, but his chances have been very few this year.
Eccleston - hardly seen with the first team squad despite his undoubted ability.
These young players have been sidelines recently and we need to reappraise our Academy (yet again) to ask what we get from it.

If Lukaku or Hazard want to be shown that Liverpool FC has credibility, then don't put them in front of any of those players for a chat. Instead of buying Poulsen or Konchelsky, we should have put Mavinga into the mix and used Shelvey more often. At least Jonjo may get more of a run under Kenny.

Our ability to attract the top younger players will come down to agents' desires and the player's feeling towards the club. We are unattractive at present; no major Champions' League hope to speak off for at least 12 months and still an unsteady ship in terms of management.

The appointment of Damien Comoli was a forward step, as has been today's news about Steve Clarke. What is neede from now on is less pressure from the fans to learn more about possible signings and more emphasis placed on asking what is happening with the young ones we already have!

RE: Steve Parker,

How can you call Theo stupid for saying he dived? We all constantly ask for a fair game, no diving, honest players. Yet, when he gives an honest answer he gets slated? How are players ever going to change when a fellow player gets berated for giving a truthful answer?

Liverpool FC announced today that Steve Clarke has joined the club as first-team coach.

Clarke, who played over 500 senior games for St Mirren and Chelsea, also brings with him considerable experience as Assistant Manager at Newcastle United, Chelsea and West Ham United.

Reds' boss Kenny Dalglish said: "Steve is a great addition to our backroom team and I'm delighted we've been able to bring him into the club.

"I am looking forward to working with Steve alongside Sammy and our other technical staff."

Suarez will only join a champions league club
- - - - - -
Wouldn't he be cup tied anyway as he has played for Ajax in Europe this season

{editor: No, after the group stages, if you join another team before the knockout stages then you are not cup tied.}

If he's played for Ajax in an way shape or form in the Champions league then he can't play for anybody else this season.

Sooty {ed's note - as per Champions League regulation 17.18, one player per club who would normally be cup-tied can be registered and eligible to play, so long as his previous club did not field him in the same competition, meaning that this player can represent two different clubs in the UEFA Cup and Champions League. However, if the first club fielded him in the Champions League, but would later play in the UEFA Cup through finishing third in the group stage, the transferred player is ineligible to play in the UEFA Cup. So he can play for us in the Europa League, but not for another team in the Champions League. Though they have made or were going to make changes to allow a player to be eligible after the group stages to open up the January window a bit. I am not sure if those rules have been applied or if they have dropped them.}

I really wasnt bothered about the result yesterday. Dont like losing to the scum but I am so happy the King is back. Penalty could have gone either way no doubt Berbatoss went down to easily. The sending off yes it was 2 footed, but Webb did not take into context the meaning of the game. Should have been yellow with final warning. No common sense though and an element of fear from Webb. He does get the majority of major decitions wrong. Remember the World Cup Final and De Jongs tackle on Alonso. I thought Martin Kelly came of age, he was fantastic, top marks to the kid. I was also pleased with Shelveys contribution. Got to be honest I wasnt one who thought he was going to be a top class player. Thought he was too one paced and lacked energy. I f he builds on his performance yesterday albeit a short one I would love to change my mind. As for the press they are scared stiff that Kenny is back and worried he may be given the job permenantly. It will take time but as I said recently we take take defeat as long as the men in Red play with passion effort and style. The results will come with some much needed additions. Def mid, 2 Wide mids and a Striker needed quickly. Would settle for a quality Def mid and Striker though before the close of the window. Welcome back Kenny you are a true legend and I really believe you can now write your name alongside the late great Bill Shankley GIVEN TIME PLEASE, owners. Any comments Ed
ROYZERED {ed's note - I do agree with you, the result didn't matter, it was the performance that was so different that made it a good day. I was still smiling hours later, even though we lost, because I can see that the players actually cared and made an effort. We have been saying this for 18 months now. Push Johnson forward to give us some width on the right and that, s one problem solved. Martin is a class act and has been developing well over the last 2 years. Young and eager to learn, lets try it out. May save us 10-15m by using Johnson in this way. Remember Bob Paisley moving Ray Kennedy from a striker to Left midfield?. Look haw that turned out.

Yesterday's game proved that Glen Johnson is surplus to requirements at Anfield. We need to cash in now before its too late. Martin Kelly did not look out of place on the pitch and gave a solid performance, he looked three times the player of Johnson.

For me, Kuyt is no more than a squad player who could be used a sub. He may give 110% most games, but where he gains in effort, he severely lacks in quality.

Its clear we need to strenghten in most areas of the team. I would like to see these players at Anfield over the next year.

Gary Cahill
Juan Mata / Adam Johnson
Eden Hazard / Marko Marin
Ever Banega / Javi Martinez
Fernando Llorente

I would like to see Suso be given a chance along with Pacheco now that Dalglish is at the helm.

What are your thought's ED? {ed's note - I think Kuyt is the least of our worries personally, we need to increase the overall quality of the whole team, but there are other players that should be dropped before him. Surround him with better players and he will raise his game like he does for Holland.}

Why has their been a delay in signing players?

Because in the real world it takes longer than five minutes to sign decent players. It also takes longer than six months to turn a team around, so be patient for goodness sake.

I do not want Nesv to come in chuck money at the squad buying overpriced, no loyalty players - do we want a long term fix or something that's going to fall apart every summer when the money grabbers we've signed the previous year start aggitating for another move/ contract.

Think Arsenal not City - there was a time when you could have grouped us with them as the best run clubs in the league, it would be nice to return to that.

"The Madness of King Roy XVI"
Took a bit of a verbal battering during the week following my comments about "The Sun."
I continue to believe we should all move on, doff the cap to the 96, but move on with our lives.

Sunday: the game was what I thought it would be. There seemed to be a determination that has been missing for a long time. That was the good part.

Agger's clumsy (for that's what it was) challenge on Berbatov was rash, but not a penalty. The referee said it was and we accept that.

Meireles was very dissapointing and looked lost in the physical aspect of the game - very strange.
Lucas - wanted to take control and seemed unable.
Reina - excellent.
Kelly - very promising.
Agger - silky, needs more time to come back into the play.
Skrtel - seemed calmer than of late, but a fair game.
Aurelio - an okay job.
Kuyt - tired and worked hard.
Maxi - lost yesterday.
Torres - doesn't work hard enough.
Shelvey - oozes class but is young enough to need Gerrard or Lucas as a mentor.
Babel - a glimmer yesterday. Can he spark with Kenny?
Ngog - promising but still raw.

What I really liked was the chance Kenny gave to Shelvey and Babel. Shows he has a different view from Roy on players. Will be interesting to see if he buys anyone this month.

Twitter: players need to be aware of ther issues social media can pose. I read something from a PR comapny called Private Clients Communications about this. They say that players don't get the right advice on how to use Youtube, Twitter, Bebo and Facebook. That's come home to roost this weekend! Maybe Babel needs this sort of advice. Having said that, it seemed harmless fun to me.

Babel will end up in suit and tie at the FA to answer to those who laughably call themselves the guardians of the game.
I suspect Babel will be sitting alongside Kenny OR Theo Walcott: the boy who stupidly talked about diving and thought he would get no more than a smile!

But don't hold your breath Ryan. You will get done but Walcott is a 'nice boy' and part of the dud England set-up. So once again, I suspect - don't know - that Ryan will be fined and Theo will be called a 'nice boy, with good manners and a good manager to teach him right and wrong' and walk on every count! Janus would be proud!

The future is a little brighter for us today.
We still have a way to go before we are safe this season.
Kenny is a plaster on the wound, not the stitches.

I can now announce that Man United have changed their stadium to THE THEATRE OF CHEATS. How many more times are teams expected to suffer at the hands of Uniteds 12th man, no not the fans, they are garbage. The chant of FERGIES RIGHT, YOUR FANS ARE SH*T* was spot on. They should also change their nickname to the submarines, they are allways diving. Back to Liverpool and, with a couple of players in we can look forward to a brighter future.

Kenny has been at the club since april. He has been scouting players for a while now. Damien Comolli has also been in the job since october. isn't it time for the flood gates to open. I found we would have 5 players walk in no matter what.

Bringing players in, should still go ahead, regardless of the manager change.

Would just like to say, it was nice to see the team give it a go yesterday, few sloppy performances aside, i think we pushed United werll for the majority of the match. From where i was sat it wasnt a pen, and i was 19 rows in directly infront of agger when he made the challenge.
I think Gerrard was reckless, and let the fact hat Rafael had made a similar challenge 30 seconds beforehand get the better of him as he lunged. Not a lot of contact involved, but an oscar worthy performance.
I thought United pushed, and were doing well from corners, but didn't pose too much threat in open play, mainly due to Martin Kelly's stalwart performance shackling Giggs.
I believe that given a few more days with the squad, Dalglish can have a major impact, inject some passion and desire into a team devoid of such emotions under the dour tutilage of Roy, who i think would do well to go to West Ham, and take Konchesky and Cole with him, whilst dropping Poulsen off at Villa on the way past.
Heres to a fresh start, new owners, new manger and now all we need is some fresh young players to finish the new beginning, results will start going our way if we continue to play and attack a bit more like we did yesterday, well done red men,

I may be wrong but wasn't it Kenny who recommended
Jonjo Shelvey and Danny Wilson. if it was then i would expect to see a lot more of them before the season ends
as for the Suarez rumours it seems to me that the board are keeping there cards close to there chest.
maybe not to inflate any transfers they are trying to negotiate. .especially as every target we are after spurs seem to be watching . .remember the mantra watch what we do and not what we say . .i still have plenty of confidence in the owners to do the right
thing and give Kenny the funds he needs to strengthen
the squad in the areas where we all know needs sorting
as Martin Broughton said. . ' Keep the faith '

Ed agree with u i defo think suarez would be a waste of money ur right if he was that good he would b in england or spain nearly every1 who has a good record in holland struggles in prem apart from 2 that van nistroy and bergkamp but berkamp played in italy were at the time was a really good league now look at kezman , kuyt , and the fella at ac milan last year forgot his name but all had unbeliveible record move to big teams and can't score to save there life we should waste 15 mil on mata or put it towards llorente dou agree ed?? {ed's note - I do think we should look elsewhere, Llorente would be my choice.}

on the contrary the dutch league is known to have brought many super stars. on top of the list you added: litmanen, robben, van de rvaart, sneidjer, zenden, van persie, Marc Overmars, Jaap Stam, Ruud Gullit, van der Sar, Alex; all played in england and Ronaldo (fat one) & Romareo got the fifa player of the year award. so think twice before you make a big statement like that.

As for suarez apart from his temper, he is a wonderful footballer. he scored the most goals in europe last season. last time i checked van nestroy did that before he came to united. He has Teves kind of physical presence and mental strength with a better finishing record. Inform torres and him can form the most lethal attacking partnership in the league. only dzeko and teves look better on paper.
but the problem is two quality strikers with out 2 quality wingers is as good as having carragher for a striker.

miccmak {ed's note - you think Dzeko is any good? I have never seen him play well.}

SingRed {ed's note - Babel feels that he does.}

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well hopefully Babel feels he does & might perform better now if he knows someone believes in him. He was exactly what was needed when he came on today. Down to 10 men and kept losing possession, Babel came on and ran at people with the ball. I don't think any defender would be too afraid if Maxi or Kuyt came running at them.

Babel has talented, let's just all hope he doesn't continue to waste it like he has done in the last 2 years or so.

{ed's note - Sociedad was just as fanatic until John Toshack took over and signed their first non-Basque players. Even then they would not sign any Spanish non-Basques, and Xabi was a Toshack player.}
That might be true but look at Xabi's up-bringing. If you read up on Xabi you would find that he spent the first 6 years of his life in the Catalan area.
How many other Basque players do you know, that are as loyal to your their own territory as Llorente, Muniaian etc., that would destroy all their lifetime beliefs and pride and sign for a regime that is run by the King of Spain himself

{ed's note - Xabi Alonso is a basque. . }
Thats true but Xabi started his career at Real Sociedad. Athletic Bilbao are completely different. They only sign players from their own region. The likes of Llorente Munian etc etc. are Basque to the core.
Where Xabi came from which is Sociedad are not as fanatic nor as proud as the boys at Bilbao {ed's note - Sociedad was just as fanatic until John Toshack took over and signed their first non-Basque players. Even then they would not sign any Spanish non-Basques, and Xabi was a Toshack player.}

Paco Ayastaran or Ray Wilkins?
I myself like paco more and the players respect him, I would class paco as more of a champions league type of assistant and a good tactician
I don't know too much about Ray Wilkins other than I would say he seems a very good assistant who is more of a league winner type of coach, don't know how he gets along with players
So I wouldn't know
Any help ed and what would be your choice {ed's note - the players love Wilkins too, but he has Man United connections, that surely has to be held against him when there are available men such as Pako. Personally I would go with Roy Evans.}

Pepe Reina The Spaniard made some good saves in those moments in the second half when United sought to soothe the crowd's nerves with a second goal. 7

Martin Kelly Brought into the side for Glen Johnson, whose wife had gone into labour, he played well enough to give Kenny Dalglish a difficult decision when the team go to Blackpool on Wednesday. 6

Daniel Agger Liverpool harboured a deep sense of injustice about the penalty but, whatever the villainy of Berbatov's tumble, Agger should have known better than to flick out his foot. Solid afterwards but a big error. 6

Martin Skrtel A strong performance from the centre-half even if there were times when he found Berbatov an elusive opponent. 7

Fábio Aurélio Liverpool supporters will always prefer to see him at left-back rather than Paul Konchesky and it is a pity for Dalglish that the Brazilian has such a prolific injury record. 7

Dirk Kuyt The usual hard work and application but what Liverpool really needed was someone in midfield with the ability to play the killer pass. 6

Raul Meireles The only Liverpool player on the pitch to be signed by Roy Hodgson, his impact was minimal, often on the edges of the game. 5

Lucas He, like Kuyt, can be guaranteed to cover a lot of ground but there are still reservations about his ability on the ball. 6

Maxi Rodríguez: Liverpool's right-sided midfielder had their only genuine chance of the first half but there was very little else from him before his withdrawal. 5

Steven Gerrard Gerrard's competitive qualities have helped make him a formidable player but on this occasion he let down his team. 4

Fernando Torres The expectation was of a player who would be rejuvenated now Roy Hodgson has gone, yet Torres disappointed again, both in his performance and in his body language, and it speaks volumes he was substituted when Liverpool needed a goal. 5

* not sure what game you watched today?. was it the blackburn match?. Today our team went to Old Trafford and got beat by a dodgy Penalty decision. they attacked, they defended, they man marked and closed down and with 10 men on the pitch they continually pushed ManUre back in to their own half. We had 13 shots on goal, not bad for a 10 man team working its socks off. there was nothing but positives today!
Walk on redmen!

I want Steve Clark as coach. I rate him very highly. Knows how to get the basics right.

Leicester 2 - 2 Man City.I still think Sven-Goran Eriksson should be next liverpool manager. He orgnise teams very well. Good at corners and free kicks. Displined.

He is a winner. world class manager who would jump ship if asked. At this point in time. He would take LFC job.

RE: Why do we not know how much the new owners intend to spend on transfers, i am not expecting them to go mad splashing cash but it would be good to know where they stand.

The new owners just paid £288million for football club in October. The pockets are little empty at the moment and a hit like that is felt for a while.

This isn't oil money and their is no endless amount of money.John Henry is worth around 300m. Will limit risk in transfer window.

1-We are out of all cups.
2-Tuth to make europe or CL
3-Real possibility of slipping into relegation
4-Stuggled to gain 20points/ poor away form.

This season, staying in the premiership may be the aim with the squad of player here at the moment.

Summer, Torres + Gerrard may leave for better opportunites. Torres have every right to leave, he has given the football club an extra year.

The club risked his health and form. Its also Time for Gerrard to join up with Mourinho at Real Madird and claim a seat with Beckham as one of the greatness player in the world. He should move on

The club will survive, Its a change in era.

Dalglish will start his regime by appointing a replacement for coach Mike Kelly, who also departed with Roy Hodgson on Saturday.

Former Chelsea and Newcastle coach Steve Clarke will join the club on Tuesday, and the new boss could also offer a coaching role to club skipper Jamie Carragher.

Personally I would like carra to stay on as manager and not become a coach.

What was Mike Kelly like Ed, and what is steve clarke like (is he a good coach)

Kenny has been scouting people alot during roys time at the club it is not like he was no looking at people. He knows exactly who he wants and what he personally values them at, also he know the youth players because he was director of the acedemy, so it's not like he has been away from football also he has been to all our games and knows what we need. I expect more signings now that kenny is in charge because i would trust my money more with him than roy. RE:Kenny - make do - inherited squad. - little invest in squad. -NO BIG NAMES INTERESTED IN PLAYING FOR LIVERPOOL because other clubs can offer then c/ l footy

{Editor Note: Champions League football isn't everything when a player is deciding whether to play for a club or not.}

I think he has a point. I see alot of big name players linked to our team ever since xabi Alonso left. But the truth is, we havnt bought anyone with quality since 2007

in 2007
Daniel Pacheco - youth player still
Fernando Torres - injured most time
Daniel Sanchez Ayala - on loan hull?
Lucas - passing issues
Emiliano Insua - on loan
Ryan Babel - failed to make it
Lauri Dalla Valle - sold to fulham
Alvaro Arbeloa - left for madrid
Javier Mascherano - left for bara
Jermaine Pennant - sold winger
Yossi Benayoun - sold
in 2008
Martin Skrtel
David Ngog
Robbie Keane - sold back to tottenham
Albert Riera - winger sold
in 2009
Glen Johnson
Alberto Aquilani - loaned out
Sotirios Kyrgiakos - reserve team player

the squad has been stripped to bare-bones ever since robbie kean left.

I have just been watching sterling and suso on youtube to get a picture of what they can do having not seen them play before and i am quite excited now and would love to see them either being intoduced to the 1st team and getting some playing time or loaned out to a half decent team that can provide them regular first team football and experience. i also think pacheco should start some games up top with torres start him for 8 games in a row and i think we will see what he can really do he is better than ngog especially if we start playing real football under kk non of this hoof and run rubbish. my one and only concern is that sterling pacheco and suso all seem to look a bit lightweight obv they can change that experience will help and if they are consistently as skillfull as they look it won't matter too much but that was the only thing can any1 correct me if that is wrong i only have youtube clips to go on really. redchris

Why has their been a delay in signing players?

Kenny has been at the club since april. He has been scouting players for a while now. Damien Comolli has also been in the job since october. isn't it time for the flood gates to open. I found we would have 5 players walk in no matter what.

Bringing players in, should still go ahead, regardless of the manager change.

I don't understand the delay, Also we lost gerrard for 3 matches.

Wed 12 Jan Blackpool v Liverpool, 20:00
Blackpool like to play the ball and enjoy playing football.
Sun 16 Jan Liverpool v Everton, 14:05
Everton will also give us a game.
Sat 22 Jan Wolv v Liverpool, 12:45
Wed 26 Jan Liverpool v Fulham, 20:00

I was making an observation as i watch almost all premier league matches and i was actually in agreeance with KK who like me appreciates what SAF has done for english football and his achievements, just as i am sure KK will do his utmost for LFC.
I'm not bigoted against any club, but do feel i am entitled to my opinions just as anyone else.
I would rather a club like LFC and it's great history be challenging for the title as opposed to Man city and its money.
