when it comes to football players that are wanted, it will not be a case of , here is £50 million, go buy players! it will be , bring a selected player to the board, and if he offers value for money and will benefit the team, they will buy! a transfer fund does not exist.

At last, someone appears to be talking sense. . . .instead of talking about budgets and wishlists!

There is only one striker i would absolutely love to see come to liverpool, im not sure what the rest of you think about it but he left man utd very unhappy, and he looks just as unhappy at city. it would be a dream signing. imagine - torres and tevez up front for liverpool. woowww. Only problem is man city would rather pay him 200k a week to sit on the bench than let him leave for us.

What do people think about Antonio Cassano? he might be a free agent on Monday. he is a good forward but his attitude is really bad.

Sorry Ed have to disagree if hes a free agent after his case, He could be the signing of the century. I know he nuts but he is very talented, and if (I know its a big if) we can channel his aggression/ issues to benefit the pool on the field, he's be a sensation. I think El Nino would love to have him up top with him. It would be a better buy than cole for 10m surely?

I'd take steven pienaar on the cheap as he'd provide width and is out of contract in the summer, with reports stating he would prefer to move on than renew the deal. 3m take it or leave and hope he prefers a regular run on the wings at us rather than fighting it out with lennon, bale and others at champions league playing spurs. mexes and taiwo would also come at a decent price or on a pre-contract for the summer.

Above all else, we desperately need some pace on the wings. Its easy to defend us when for the most part you can stack bodies in the middle of the field and not have to worry about defending out wide.

Would love to grab a couple of the following:

Hazard
Honda
Turan
N'Zogbia
Adam Johnson

January is probably too ambitious to get 2 but at least 1 would help for now. Maybe trying Glen Johnson up a little higher against lesser opponents with Kelly at RB.

Had a big debate with the boys today about the current LFC team and to be honest we were all so pleased we finnally had a tough choice for the right reasons now I have no idea how to solve it but it's clear stevie when fit should always be on the pitch the problem is Lucas and Meireles both step their game up a hell of a lot however if you watch all the games back ( which I did ) whenever Lucas/ meireles get it they just pass to stevie and going forward everyone is looking for stevie. 6-7/ 10 gerrard will produce something but Lucas and Raul are good players too and dropping Lucas would be catastrophic I think and raul is gonna be a huge such talent! Like kaka plays. Play gerrard in my opinion upfront or wide right like benitez played him sometimes. Or just behind Fernando.
Anyway I'm praying for 2 goals for Torres the sooner he's properly back the better could be 6th come Saturday night come on boys I'm off to the match tomorrow YWNA!

To compare taarabt to ronaldo when ronaldo was 21 he scored over 40 goals in a season for man ure. They cannot be compared.
Ed do think we will buy from another prem club in jan? Who would you sign? Not much quality better than we already have is there outside the top 5 or 6 teams {ed's note - we are more likely to buy from abroad, there are lots of clubs in financial trouble to buy from.}

On the eve of tomorrow's match, i want all LFC fans to remember these words when watching the match tomorrow.

Two years ago just after Xmas we went to Newcastle and produced one of the best performances in modern times. Quite simply we were sensational.

We won 5-1, could and should have won 10, Gerrard was at his peak, the team were outstanding and the style of our football that day was unmatched. We finished the game top of the table and for the first time in 18 years i truly thought that we were going to win the league.

I think this performance was our peak and whilst Madrid and manure slayings followed it was downhill from the 'jumper over the head' incident, ironically that very same night. Perhaps Gerrard thought what i thought?

Anyway, just judge the performance and the result and see how far away we truly are.

Story ed any follow up interest in taarabt of qpr. Jus watching them play Watford I can't see him at Liverpool.
He's a good player obviously above championship standard but he seems too greedy and ego'd for us, I couldn't see how stevie would put up with him. On the otherhand Watford have 1 or 2 tidy youngsters. {ed's note - I am watching that too, I agree on Taarabt, but it is not us making the decision and Comolli does rate him highly.}

Ed, what do you think on Fernando Llorente? The price people are saying on here is £15m, but I see it being in the £20m zone myself. Also, Antonio Cassano on a free? Personally I don't want to see him here, he's very weak and I think there is little chance he'd be able to cut it out here, but he has got ability if he can be bothered to use it. Finally Ed, I know you're not a fan of Ronaldinho, but if we can get his wages down to something reaspectable, then surely he'd be good business for the club in financial terms. I mean, his commercial value is still pretty massive in South America.
I've also heard from my friend (no link to Liverpool) who has heard the rumour of River Plate midfielder Diego Buonanotte joining in January? I know little about him and have checked him up on Football Manager, he's very small and weak, but good with the ball. More like an Arsenal player, but don't think he'd cut it again. {ed's note - Llorente is likely to cost closer to £20m or even more, Real Madrid have him in their sights. It's not that I don't rate Ronaldinho, it is just that he is not the player he once was, he wouldn't get the time and space he does in Italy over here. His merchandising is not enough these days, it would come nowhere near covering his wages, if it did there is no way Milan would consider letting him go. I doubt Buonanotte will ever play in England, he is only something like 5ft 4" tall and no one seems to give smaller players a chance in England.}

Oh well no Messi, Iniesta or Xavi then! {ed's note - exactly, many younger players have been passed over in youth football because of their height.}

also with all the money city have spent i can only see a couple of successful signing in tevez, johnson and maybe k. toure. but surely with almost unlimited resourses even a fool could build a winning team. just like mourinho did at chelsea (not that im calling jose a fool lol).

anyway this is a liverpool site so i'll get back to the reds. i hope the lads make alan pardew regret returning to football this weekend by hamering newcastle.

On the B-Spec section where you manage your drivers to race and make you money you have to choose pre created names for your drivers.

So happily I found a D.Pacheco to drive for me. The point though however is later during the game I had to choose another driver.

Is it just a coincidence that the new drivers name is a K.Honda!?

Hi guys

We are Liverpool F.C and what makes you think that we are not capable of signing the worlds best players and future stars.
We will sign at least 1 marque signing in January.
We have a great group of players and we don't need to change too much.

Just a question ed/ fellow fans, "Was there ever a time when Liverpool or any other team that won the league never made any transfers in a season?"

Basically what I'm getting at is that even with the greatest of teams there will always be a manager that tweaks around his team, looking for someone to improve his team.

Since the Premier League started, I think that today we finally have our best team ever (in the EPL). Our players are united, committed, eager and most of all willing. Surely with this - success should be around the corner.

Add the 1 superstar to our team and I believe we WILL finish in the TOP 4.

Good luck lads and deliver us the magical 3 points to climb the ladder to where we Belong.

American transfer deals are priced differently to ours. Included in the 'price' is all fees, bonuses and their wages etc for the full length of the contract The figure 300M is based on them seeing out the full length of their contracts and not as in our case in the UK, just the actual purchase of the player.

we have so much quality, the spurs game was the proof we just need that extra bit off class in the back and wing.

On the nesv spending point, I would have thought there plans for us are to make us into a global team on level terms with the likes of scum, real and barca. Then maybe look at selling up for the sort of figure people say scum are worth. So if that is the plan I would think they would spend whatever money is necessary to bring success back to the club domestic and European otherwise what would be the point in even buying the club.

Check out the Chelsea rumour site. . they are all worried about their owner not spending money, bad form, players leaving because abramovic (sp) wants to cut the wage bill, their manager getting the sack, etc.

Some one posted earlier that liverpool can't compete with the likes of arsenal, chelsea, man city, and the scum.
well i will admit over the last few years the yanks really did a job of dismantling our club. and while alot of people argue that rafa brought us champions league football, i think his mismanagement eventually took it away.
but liverpool have new owners now and i think things are on the up, people should wait till after the summer to see where the club is in terms of competing for trophies. i can see good times ahead.

ed can you see how man city will find away around the new uefa rules about spending within your limits.

I think we can also spend the money from our excellent commercial activities which until recently was being used to pay off the interest on the debt put on the club by H&G.

What do u think ed about 4-3-3 formation when steve G returns. if we buy 1 0r 2 quality wingers like marin, hazard, a.johnson , payet or turan along with honda and good cb. i think this will be a good team to compete with real barca.

People are always saying that Liverpool should be near the top etc.! Ok, we're a massive club with a massive fanbase and have a great history.

But lets look at other things. Revenue - Man Utd have the biggest stadium and make more revenue than anyone from their stadium. Arsenal produce more top young players than anyone, and make massive revenue from their stadium also. Chelsea have spent so much money in the past few years because of a billionaire owner, and now Man City have one about 5times as rich.

So where do we fit? Do we make massive revenues? Do we put tonnes of emphasis on our youth system like Arsenal, and we don't have a billionaire owner who can splash hundreds of millions per transfer window on players.

So can we really claim to be worthy of being at the top? When we finish say in the top 3 in the past have we not punched above our weight? When you look at all of the off-field things that make the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd title challengers, we don't have that so really, we should be sitting around the top 6 tbh.

This club was never build the way it should have been since the early 90s. And ultimatly its why we haven't won a title in 20 years.

I think cassano is a great player, completely nuts, but still a great player.I remember Souness refusing to go for Cantona, because he had the reputation of a maverick.Big Duncan, Anelka, Bellamy, and Collymore.Sometimes that type of player are alot more trouble than their worth, on other occasions maybe inspirations.I am a season ticket holder and I would love to see him giving ago.Give him to the end of season, then sell him on if he misbehaves.I sit next to a few nutters in the Kop so why not see a few on the pitch.I really think Cassano could do well for us and I agree he is better than sick note Joe

3 top quality signings in january and we are bang on track, that will give roy and commoli time enough to asses the true strenth of the squad i think summer will see maybe 4 players coming in with players leaving,
honda 10, mata 15-20, lavezzi 15 would be my wish, get ayala back, hopefully get aqua back in summer then trim the squad of deadwood replace with quality and add the best of the youth and blood them gentle, shelvey to replace gerrard in 18 months,
3 quality additions minimum will happen

Ed, you've mentioned before that you doubt we'd ever sign the likes of Ronaldinho or Aguero in part because of their excessive wage demands. Most lists of the top earners though have Ronaldinho on par with what Gerrard earns (about £8 million p.a), whilst Aguero is on £5 million p.a and behind Torres? How accurate are those sites? I wouldn't be too keen on Ronaldinho and I don't think the club is either, but Aguero would be well worth paying what we do to Nando every week don't you think? {ed's note - those sites aren't really very accurate, Aguero is about to sign a new contract which will put him above Gerrard's earnings anyway.}

Chelsea need to be looking at things in the long-term as opposed to now, because it certainly concerns them.

Alot of people seem far to concerned about stopping andy corroll this weekend. i think lets just concentrate on our game for a change. rafa brought this mentality of stopping the opponents play, it was ok in the champions league but not every game, every week.
liverpool can play some good football, alot better than any side under alan pardew, i think it is about time we rested kuyt and played johnson further up, kuyt has given the ball away far to much lately.
so with a midfield of johnson - meireles -lucas - maxi we should roll over newcastle, steven gerrard coming back should not disrupt the middle of midfield at all, just keep it the same and give stevie a free role. i think gerrard will have the game of his life if he can do what ever he wants.

Absolutely, he has been one of our best players this season. He was also one of our most consistent last season aswell. Some people just don't like it when they have been proved wrong about a player.

As much as i want to get excited about the upcoming transfer window i feel we are gonna be like Newcastle have just been, they were expecting a big name signing only to get Alan Pardew! On the striker front i like everyone else would like the likes of Llorente, Benzema, Gomez, Suarez etc but i think the reality will be Carlton Cole, Johann Elmander or Clint Dempsey! I really hope not but just have a feeling that's what we`ll get! Anyway come on the lads 3 points this saturday would be lovely! YNWA

Right now it is make or break for LFC.
If we don't sign one or two big name players this Janurary or Summer, then LFC could end up loosing one or two big name players already at the club.

Ashley Young would be a great signing. This is the kind of signing LFC need, to keep confidence in everyone including our star players that LFC mean buisness.
Young has definetly emerged as a rising star and it would be great to see his emergence in a LFC jersey.
If LFC are unsuccessfull in signing Young then Juan Mata would be an equally good alternative.

If the signing of Young happens, then hopefully LFC will sign Suarez.
Both Young and Suarez have a reputation of being agressive players and this quality could proove benificial to LFC who are soft in attack.
Suarez also has been a prolific goalscorer for Ajax.

Our defence needs tightening up mainly in wide positions were we are vulnerable but CM looks solid with Raul and Lucas so why not move SG to partner SG and sign honda for wide in Jan and that should see us command a CL place at the end of the season.

If you make too many changes not always a wise move with players expected to fit in right away then we should look to rebuild star by star and build our squad up

I seem to recall one of the eds saying Cahill as being one and Shawcross too a while back. I mean beggers can't be choosers. Plus you talk about hoofers, we've got one of the biggest hoofers in Jamie Carragher playing CB for us for years and he's been our best CB for years. Personally I think Cahill would be our best option. But i'd hope Agger will get better soon because he's our best CB and actually has a football brain.

However the fickle Liverpool fans who've resigned themselves to now support Hodgson and his horrible football tactics, just don't. My 5 aside team could of beat that West Ham and Villa side, they were awful. So expect more hoofers in the side whilst he's our manager.

On the Aqua debate - In defence of Roy, I saw Aqua pre-season against Moenchengladbach (i think). . Jeez he was BAD! really bad, he barely moved. . maybe Roy let him go based on that game. If I hadn't seen him play and saw that game I'd sell/ loan him too! Anyhoo, he's there (Juve) for the season at least and we've got Stevie & Meireles to battle for the ACM role alongside Lucas. Where would he play if he was at the 'pool this year? As a striker? No. A winger? No. Remember we play 4-4-2 now btw. No suggestions of a silly 'Stevie & Aqua' or 'Raul & Aqua' nature. It wouldn't work as Aqua doen't tackle or work hard enough. Gimme Raul over Aqua anyday though, give Roy some credit for signing him! Maybe Aqua back as understudy to Raul in the ACM role, freeing Stevie G to play up with Torres or put Kuyt out of his misery on the RW. Could save us big money on a new CF (with Babel/ N'Gog as quality young backup) or RW (Stevie is as good a RW as I can see us getting, would you rather him or Kuyt there? Johnson maybe, but we need a new RB for that to happen). Thats the best scenario I can envisage, and it looks strong. A real shame we can't bring him back in January. He really does have quality and class on the ball and I'd bring him back in the capacity described. btw, can anyone tell me why J.Cole signed for us? Where does he fit in the new-look 4-4-2 LFC? UP FRONT! ARE WE ALL MAD! I suppose he's (highly paid) backup to Maxi on the left at the moment. . or we could try him for Kuyt on the right too. he couldn't do much worse though its still not ideal. I guess he's useful backup for either wing. . still though, long term. . .why?

i read your post again, you are right about lucas, i was never a fan of his BUT i never slagged or booed him, when he stumbled over the ball (often)and was caught in possession, then lost the ball, then fouled the opponent, often causing panic in our defence, i have been pleasantly impressed with his form and performances mainly since the chelsea game, (forget stoke game a total nightmare for everyone)i hope he can keep it up and become the player rafa said he was, also i can remember like you as a kid going to anfield at 9 in the morning and walking around the ground till kick off, i don't know what label would be put on that type of behaviour now, manic, psychotic, neurotic are a few i can think of, lol or sooner if i could bunk in through the mens bog roof, that used to be outside the kop on opposite the park pub, those were the days ah, nar i think not, lino in me shoes to fill the holes in the soles, never mind i wasnt on me own everyone was the same, no cars no money, and in my case no sense, bob paisleys skids
